The Scientific Exploration Of Human Motivation
1. How do economic theories add to the scientific exploration of human motivation? Human
motivation is a physiological drive that we all have inside ourselves. There is no way to completely
avoid it. Some drives we have are for basic necessities of survival, like the feelings of thirst and
hunger. Obviously we must give into the drive that our body is signaling to us we must have because
food and water are essential for us to live. When our behavior is directed by means of survival this is
something known as homeostasis. According to drive theory, the body maintains a condition of
homeostasis, in which any particular system is in balance or equilibrium (C.L. Hull, 1951). Any
departure from homeostasis, such as depletion of nutrients or a drop in temperature, produces an
aroused condition, or drive, which impels the individual to engage in appropriate action such as
eating, drinking, or seeking warmth. As the body s need is met, the drive and associated arousal
subside. (Garrett, pg. 161) People are driven to other behaviors that are not essential for survival, but
they are driven by the same mechanisms to seek out the satisfaction they would receive by giving in to
their drive. An example of this would people who suffer from addictions. This is not limited to drugs
and alcohol, but people may suffer addictions to gambling, food, and shopping as well. People are
driven by the sense of reward they feel. Just like when you eat and satisfy your hunger, food being the

Standard Deduction
Introduction
Standard deduction is a provision of the United States federal income tax system, which serves two
purposes including a least amount amount of untaxed income, thus acting as an ingredient of
progressivity. Second, it provides a simplified alternative to the itemized deductions for tax payers
with comparatively low itemizable expenses, thus relieving them of the record keeping and
computational burden of itemizing deductions. Having one provision is a compromise to other but it is
a compromise that is unnecessary. (Samansky, 1991)
A base sum of income that is not focused to tax and that can be used to decrease a taxpayer s adjusted
gross income (AGI), a standard deduction can only be used if the taxpayer does not prefer the
itemized deduction method of calculating taxable income. The sum of the standard deduction is based
on a taxpayer s filing status, age and whether he or she is disabled or claimed as a reliant on another
person s tax return.
The major reason taxpayers exercise standard instead of itemized deductions is that taxpayers don t
have to keep track of every potential tax deductible expense throughout the year. Plus, a lot of people
find the standard deduction amount to be fairly generous and usually greater than the total they could
reach if they added up all of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People often overlook or fail to record allowable tax deductions and keep their approach only for the
standard amount specified by the IRS. For instance, homeowners often pay more interest and real
estate tax than the standard deduction permits. Also, small business owners who have a running home
office often can incur additional tax deductions higher than the standard amount. Taxpayers must keep
accurate records along with actual receipts to itemize deductions. Failure to do this makes the standard
deduction a advantage but also may cost you a lot of money in tax

4 This antigen is present on more than 90 percent of B cell NHL. However, it is not found on
hematopoietic stem cells, normal plasma cells, pro B cells, or other normal tissues. CD20 has other
key roles such as in the activation process for cell cycle initiation and differentiation and it is
suspected to function as a calcium ion channel as well. In RA, b cells play an important role in the
pathogenesis and associated chronic synovitis. In RA, b cells act on multiple sites to induce an
autoimmune inflammatory response including the production of rheumatoid factor, other
autoantibodies, antigen presentation, t cell activation, and pro inflammatory cytokine production. The
fab domain binds to the CD20 antigen on b lymphocytes and Fc domain recruits immune effector
function to mediate B cell lysis in vitro. Potential mechanisms of cell lysis involve complement
dependent cytotoxicity (CDC) and antibody dependent cell mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC). In
addition, the antibody has been shown to induce apoptosis primarily in the DHL 4 human B cell

How Did Rome Use Aqueducts
Ian Malapira Latin Bell 3 Aqueduct Project
Rome had several sources of water within the wall, but the groundwater was not pleasant and water
from the Tiber river was unsafe for drinking. The city s major need for water had probably long
exceeded its local supplies when the Aqua Appia, Rome s first aqueduct which was built in 312 B.C.,
was commissioned by the censor Appius Claudius Caecus. Many more aqueducts were built as the
cities demanded more water. The Aqua Tepula was created in 127 B.C. and the Aqua Julia in 33 B.C.
The emperor Caligula added or began two aqueducts which were completed by his successor
Claudius; the 38 mile long Aqua Claudia, which gave quality water but had failed several times; and

The Greek and Roman Mythos Analysis
The greeks believed that chaos and peace go hand in hand for peace can only exist with the presences
of chaos and vice versa, like many myths it carries a violent beginning which relates to human nature.
The Roman religion was more practical and less poetical than the Greek religion. Every Roman god
had something to do, some useful duty to perform. The Greek and Roman Gods worshipped by the
two nations had similar roles and duties. However, their names were different. The religion of the
Romans differed in some aspects from that of the Greeks, so much as it was basically a state religion,
and It was more of a ritual and a ceremony. It included most of the gods of the Greek Pantheon, but
was more comprehensive. The gods of both religions possess human qualities such as jealousy,

Public Speaking Self Reflection
Public Speaking Self Reflection
COM/128
May 11, 2014
Public speaking has always been very hard for me, I ve never been the type to stand in front of an
audience and speak or do a presentation. No matter how many times I ve done presentations I ve
always get nervous or shy and always forget what I rehearsed. In the military I was training Nco,
everytime we had a new marine check in to our unit or are shop. I would be the one to give them and
the A presentation on what is expected of them and also give them information about the unit and our
shop. In my opinion the Marine Corp prepared me for public speaking, especially if you where lower
rank and your senior enlisted would throw you to the wolves and send you up there to give the ...

What do you want to accomplish in this course?
Whether I like it or not I been given the opportunity to talk to large crowds like a squadron or just a
couple of people in the class. My problems have always been the same getting shy, anxiety, and even
sweating. Learn to analyze the size of the audience, I want to be able to captivate my audience and
overall I just need to find the confidence in myself to do it.
How would you plan to improve weak areas to accomplish your goals? Overall no matter how many
times I do a rehearsal or practice I always get stage fright. Stage fright is my weakest area I have done
rehearsals and private or with one or two people but when it comes to the bigger picture I always
freeze. I need to learn to speak with confidence and try to get the audience involved instead of rushing
the presentation or speaking very softly so no one hears me I need to be able to let the audience know
that I am confident and the information that I am sharing is worth their time to listen and learn

The American War of Independence
The American Revolutionary War, also known as the War of Independence, began on April 19th, 1775
with the Battle of Lexington and Concord. The American Revolution was a war between the thirteen
colonies and Great Britian. The colonies wanted to gain independence from Great Britian. It was also
a rebellion against the monarchy, which lead to the establishment of the republic [CROSS]. The
outcome of the war was a victory for the thirteen colonies. The colonist gained independence and
British recognition. The Battle of Lexington and Concord was a significant battle because it was the
start of the Revolutionary War; there are many events that led to the colonist fighting back. The war
started because Great Britain was taxing the colonies. Great Britain imposed the Sugar Act, Stamp
Act, Townshend Acts, etc. It was taxation without representation. Many people wrote about what
colonists should do. John Dickinson wrote The Letters From a Pennsyvlanvia Farmer and Thomas
Paine wrote Common Sense . Both were the actions that they believed that colonist should take and
their opinion on the matters. Americans rebelled with the Boston Massacre in 1770 and the Boston Tea
Party in 1773 [CITE]. This caused Great Britain to enact the Coercive Acts. The Coercive Acts were
divided into three parts: Boston Port Act, Administration of Justice Act, and the Massachusetts
Government Act. The Boston Port Act shut down Boston s harbors in June of 1774 until the colonies
paid for the tea that was

Qualitative Research Appraisal
According to Schneider, Elliot, LoBiondo Wood Haber (2004), qualitative research methods, search
for the meaning and understanding of human experiences in a naturalistic setting. A researcher obtains
subjective facts in order to explore the experiences of each participant (Schneider, Elliot, LoBiondo
Wood Haber 2004). As a result, qualitative research is a means in which a researcher gains an insight
into the participant s point of view concerning their personal experiences; in order gain an
understanding of the information given. Therefore this allows a researcher to collect subjective
information to create a description of the phenomenon (Vishnevsky Beanlands 2004).
Qualitative research is a foundation of information, which can ... Show more content on

For example, a grounded theory study by Spinewine, Swine, Dhillon, Franklin, Tulkens, Wilmotte
Lorant (2005), was conducted to uncover appropriateness of use of medicines in elderly inpatients.
The researchers found that nursing staff, pharmacists and geriatricians agreed that prescribing of
medications and counselling of patients was insufficient and the data that was shared with the medical
officer upon discharge was not adequate. Grounded theory focuses on a group, not individuals and is
larger than ethnographic and phenomenological methods.
There are strengths and weaknesses within each qualitative methodology. Qualitative research within
the nursing environment deals with people / patients feelings, beliefs, cultures and past experiences.
The strengths that come from dealing with the above are an increased empathy of nurses towards their
patient s holistic care (Schneider et al 2004). Weakness found within qualitative research according to
Schneider et al (2004) can be linked to poor research questions, inappropriate method used, inaccurate
data collection and analysis.

12. Although the family was most likely happy to be together again, this happiness would not last for
long.
13. On the night of July 16, 1918, soldiers woke the Romanovs and their servants and told them to get
dressed.
14. More soldiers then took them to the basement under the pretext of being protected from the
impending chaos of advancing counterrevolutionaries (Biography.com).

16. Accounts vary as to whether the soldiers killed them with bullets and then impaled them with
bayonets, or if they killed some with bayonets. 16b. However, all accounts generally agree that both
weapons were used.

Examples Of Loss Of Innocence In All Quiet On The Western...
In my book, All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque, the most intriguing aspect is
the loss of innocence by the main character, Paul, and his fellow soldiers. This is a recurring thought
that is shown throughout the novel. For instance, when the author writes, It is not fear. Mean who have
been up as often as we have become thick skinned (53). When he says this it is amidst the noises of
explosions and gunfire. It makes it very evident that the soldiers have become used to the constant
racket of war even during the pitch black of night. The author illustrates another example when he
writes, I was sitting in a dugout playing skat; after awhile I stood up and went to visit some friends in
another dugout. On my return nothing

Analysis Of The Movie Broadway
A war is fought on many fronts. The war front were the actually fighting takes place. The government
front were the stiff shirts fight politics. The home front were the people still at home have to deal with
the repercussions of war. And the public front were people still had to go about their daily lives. This
is where Broadway was born and raised. Broadway was just getting started in the late 1860 s so it was
still a baby when World War One began. Broadway was loved by all and people could go see their
favorite shows, with their favorite actors for the low price of $1.50 or $2.00. Before WWI Broadway
was not really concerned with the outside world, but the war changed all that. Soon the only thing one

and he is to this day the only person who was allowed to perform in union shows without an equity
card (Rusie, 1998). The war had a huge effect on the world, Broadway included; Broadway did its best
to help with the war, but WWI still changed the style of Broadway, and how it worked. In 1917 Dr.
Frank Crane said, The stage is not a nation s weakness, extravagance or undoing, but it is a nation s
deep refreshment that gives to the hearts and minds of a great people that spirit of courage and light
and adventure that is needed to achieve success in the arena of world conflict. (Atkinson, 1970) Dr.
Crane was more than right in his statement. Broadway was not taking away from the war, or trying to
shove it in a corner, acting, and hoping that it did not exist. They were embracing it, and were helping
the cause. During WWI Broadway was teeming with servicemen. To help those coming to Broadway
for the first time, information centers were set up all to help soldiers. These centers would give
soldiers information, such as what shows to go see in their short time in the city (Atkinson, 1970).
These soldiers would not stay in the city for long, but when they were there Time

Innocent Whales Persuasive Essay
Imagine if the world you lived in, the space you breathed in, and the freedom you played in were
suddenly taken away from you. (Free Willy). This is unfortunately the case for much of our marine
wildlife, specifically Orcas. Over 53 Orcas live in captivity at 12 marine parks around the world (Orca
Project). Innocent Whales are being captured and tortured all for the use of our own enjoyment. I grew
up going to Sea World, as I m sure most kids in the San Diego area did as well. It was relatively
inexpensive and fun for the whole family. What five year old kid doesn t wanna see a giant whale

They are heavily medicated with antibiotics and sometimes antidepressants (Deep Water). When they
are put in these tanks, they are often put with multiple other captured orca whales. On top of being all
crammed together in a tiny space, they do not speak the same language. This creates a lot of confusion
between the orca whales and a lot of times hostility towards one another. All in all the orca whales are
forced into a new enclosed environment with other orca whales who are distressed as well. In the film
Blackfish, it shows at one point a whale being so distressed that he began to harm the whale that was
in the tank with him by biting the poor whale and slamming it against the tanks walls. This is a
common result of the social strife of these whales. Orcas are often cut, raked, and rammed by the
whales who have been there the longest, often seen as a form of seniority. In one particularly brutal
example, Kandu V, a female orca at Sea World, bled to death after 11 years in captivity when an artery
was severed at the upper jaw. The wound was self inflicted as she collided with another whale in a
display of dominance. Over the next 45 minutes, and in view of the public, she slowly bled out,
spouting blood from her blowhole until she died (OrcaProject). So not only does captivity lead to
aggression on other whales, it leads to aggression on themselves. There was a video

The Marketing And Communications For Plaza Home Health...
The current marketing and communications for Plaza Home Health Services is in desperate need of
upgrades. Fortunately, the owners now have the needed income to make identity improvements. This
is important because (Fortenberry 2010) whenever an infusion of resources occurs such as more
prosperous periods, healthcare marketers must comprehensively review their identity management
efforts to determine the most productive methods for utilizing these funds to affect the greatest
identity gains in the marketplace. (p.60)
The logo for Plaza Home Health Services is of poor quality. Consequently, the poorly designed logo
has caused a domino effect of poorly designed marketing communications such as their business
cards, brochures, and the signage located on the front of the building. To achieve identity, it is
important that their logo is in line with their target audience. According to Fortenberry, (2010) identity
is achieved through branding activities, with such activities generating logos, product names, slogans,
jingles, product packaging, building signage, and related identity vehicles for conveying desired
images to target audiences. (p.56) Mangin (2014) states that successful healthcare branding requires a
solid, organized commitment to delivering unique standards of consistency through the institution s
products and services. In addition, a healthcare organization (HCO) must differentiate itself from the

Comparing Two Art Styles
In the study of the Humanities one can find a vast list of the different styles and periods of artwork.
The dilemma comes in when taking two different artist with different styles from different time

hides behind the ability to compare such divergent artwork. Artwork that one may look at first glance

Poussin and Toulouse Lautrec s pieces of artwork can be considered different at first sight, looking
more in depth into both pieces one will be able to find several contrasts and comparisons. The
different styles and time periods can not take away from the parallel that both pieces posess. These
artists have a dissimilar style and outlook on women partly due to the difference in era s.

Ethnographic Study Of Dance
Professional ballet dancer s perspective of their own senses while dancing on daily practice of
training/class remains unexplored in dance scholarship. This is the gap in scientific research that
remains to be uncovered by empricial research. From this research the dance world could benefit on
better understanding on the senses and embodiment of dance in training.
Ethnographic method was used in important social cultural studies by Loïc Wacquant (1998)
reflecting upon the embodiment of boxers, in sociological studies and rugby players decision making

Essay On Staying In Oakland
Staying in Oakland will be the best solution financially. Oakland has a booming economy that
continues to grow at a rapid pace. Many new companies setting up headquarters in Oakland, such as
Uber, are making the prices of living in Oakland rise higher and higher because many rich tech people
are moving in rapidly. As a result, Oakland is becoming a much nicer place than it once was. By
staying put, the Raiders would benefit from more expensive tickets due to Oakland becoming a
wealthy city. Also, the Raiders fan base in the Alameda County is second to none, as they have been
selling out games for years. This will also help drive up the ticket prices because there will be lots of
demand for the tickets, thus raising the prices even further. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

By moving there, you will be losing money in the long run. Initially, it will be more profitable than
staying in Oakland because most of the stadium funding will be from the casino tycoons and tickets
for the first season there will be at an all time high. But, after the first season, less and less people will
come to games because the novelty of the Raiders in Vegas will wear off and Las Vegas isn t a football
town. There aren t many true sports fans in Vegas who will come to every game faithfully like
residents of the Alameda County do. A great example of this is when the Rams moved to Los Angeles
last season. Everybody was extremely excited for the Rams coming to LA and as a result, ticket prices
boomed and the Rams were one of the most profitable teams in the NFL. But, as the season
progressed, less and less people went to the games, and the Rams began to self destruct, firing their
coach mid season. So, in the long run the Raiders would be making more money by not moving to
Vegas. Staying in Oakland will be the best thing to do for the fans as

Descriptive Essay On The Getty Museum
Driving down the 405 freeway will now be a different experience for myself. Prior to the weekend of
June 11, 2017, The Getty Museum was always a mystery. There are a several things I really enjoyed
about the museum. It was surprising to learn the Getty Center is free for everyone that attends. When
arriving we of course had to pay for parking, which was fifteen dollars for an all day parking pass.
With the parking pass, the museum allows you to leave and return once within the same day. This is
ideal for those who rather get food off the museum s property. When arriving at the museum we rode
on a six minute tram ride. The tram ride was included in the price of parking. Walking up to the
museum s entrance was an experience of its own. The architecture was entertaining. There were
several areas that grabbed the viewers attention. After speaking to a museum employee, I was able to
notice different areas with in the museum. The architect used large pooped out stones to grab the
viewers attention. These pooped out stones provide a path to view points with in the museum. For
example; one pooped out stone showed a view of the Central Garden, another lead us to a view of Los
Angeles. The views were beautiful from the guided points. The museum was broke up into different
pavilions. Each pavilion had a different theme, it was very easy to locate each pavilion and artwork
within the building. One pavilion had a Changing Exhibition. While visiting the theme of the West
Pavilion was The Lure of Italy: Artist Views. I soon realized all areas of the museum change to help
protect the art on display. Areas of the Getty Museum included several painting galleries, sculpture,
decorative art galleries, architecture, gardens and of course the changing exhibits. While walking
through the buildings it was fascinating to see all the different styles of art on display. Artists all have
their own techniques when creating their expression of what they see. Many paintings dated back to
the 1700 s and seemed to have very little cracks or signs of age within the paintings. While
experiencing the painting galleries, I was hopeful to find a painting by both Vincent van Gogh and
Claude Monet. To my surprise the museum had one piece by

Behind The Scenes Of A Nba Game
Behind the Scenes of a NBA Game. For my senior project I ve decided to learn more about the behind

business sides of sports and also see how everything operates. I would like to know what has to

allow me to explore the jobs that still have a connection to sports. At the same time I will see what has
to be done behind the scenes that most people do not know about. To learn more about what happens
behind the scenes of a basketball game I had to know about the working conditions and time involved.
For the Golden State Warriors the job of game operations or game experience is a very important
position. The official game operations leader has to make sure all the entertainment the fans see and
experience at the game is running smoothly. The position basically looks over all the scheduled
performances during a regular game and makes sure the interaction with the fans run smoothly as
possible. This includes all the work on the video board, the pregame show, the national anthem, along
with the halftime shows and the fan interaction during time outs All this add ups to long hours and
hard working conditions.
To begin with the game operations position is a difficult position to get into. Today a degree in sports
management is practically needed in order be considered for the job. The sports management major
teaches future workers more about the business and entertainment side of sports (professional).

Analysis Of From Here To Eternity By Charon
In the book Ten Questions, Charon argues that there are crucial variables that limit the impact that an
individual can have throughout the course of one s life. In the movie From Here to Eternity, the
characters in the movie are perfect examples of an individual influencing one s life. Charon gives us
four levels of evaluation to see if the individual can make a difference in: their own lives, the lives of

Richard Wright s Perspective Of The Sociological Imagination
In Wright s point of view, the sociological imagination allows us to understand history and biography
and the relation between this two within society. That is its task and its promise. Human s life too
connected to society; their lifestyle is whole society. In order to understand the human society, we
should look first the sociological imagination. It associated with the individual s biography, history
and tradition, personal troubles versus public issues, the social versus the individual. The sociological
imagination is an approach to sociology. Each of us has a place in the world. We are all individuals in
this world, then as we relate to one another, we grow, we develop. History cannot exist, without
people both living it and making it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the most productive difference with which the sociological imagination works is between
personal troubles of human environment and the public issues of society . This theory is a part of
sociological imagination because of it features all classic work of the social science. According to
Wright Troubles occur within the character of the individual and within the range of his immediate
relations with others, it is a private matter: values cherished by an individual are felt by him to be
threatened. Problems have to do with troubles that go beyond these local environments of the
individual and the range of his interior life. An issue is a public problem: some rate valued by publics
is felt to be disappearing In order to frame issues and troubles, we must question what values are
prized yet threatened and what values are cherished and supported by the characterizing developments
of our period. We should experience whatever occurs in our own lives as distinctive and isolated, and
also to interpret what happens to other people as unique and private to them. This is the explanation of

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Gas Turbine
A gas turbine by definition is an engine in the centre of a power plant producing electric current [1]. It
is also a rotary engine extracting energy from flow of combustion gas. Gas turbine is responsible for
the conversion of natural gas or any other liquid fuels into mechanical energy. This energy can
therefore be used to drive the generator to produce electrical energy [1 3]. Gas turbine is made up of
components as shown in Figure 1 below. Figure 1: Gas turbine showing arrangements of all

Turf War Research Paper
The Turf wars
Dick Allen once said, if a horse won t eat it, I don t wanna play on it . There are several reasons Dick
Allen has love for natural grass and resentment for synthetic grass. Climate, cost, and health of fake
grass fields are just three of the many issues in this natural versus turf battle. Some say synthetic fields
may be a solution to countries with less favorable climates but with new modern technology, plastic
fields are not needed. In places where there is a lack of natural light or blatant cold weather, there are
new resolution pathways instead of converting to turf. Lambeau field, located in Green Bay

Older turf fields made from nylon or nylon/polyethylene blend fibers can contain levels of lead that
pose a potential public health concern. Excessive exposure to lead, according to the Agency for Toxic
Substances Disease Registry (ATSDR), can lead to toxic affects regardless of the exposure pathway.
Studies have shown when sliding on the sharp plastics of turf rather than natural grass athletes are
seven times more likely to receive a turf burn which in turn increases their risk of receiving MRSA or
a Staphylococcus infection. Another massive concern of health comes from Amy Griffin, an associate
soccer coach at the University of Washington who discovered two soccer players, which were both
goalkeepers, that were diagnosed with cancer. Goal keeper is a position that frequently dives and is
thus almost always in contact with the turf and as stated before it does not matter the exposure
pathway. As Griffin told NBC in 2014 she d heard from 38 soccer players who d been diagnosed with
cancer. That tally has climbed to 220 athletes 166 of them soccer players. There are also concerns
about more minor problems that players Alex Morgan, the United States Women s National Team
forward has stated, The achiness, taking longer to recover than on natural grass, the tendons and
ligaments are, for me at least, I feel more sore after turf. It takes longer to recover from a turf field
than natural grass. Especially for someone in her position training for the World Cup, recovery time is
critical. The new health problems caused by these plastic fields are constantly being discovered, and it

Eating Animal Eating Animals
Today, most American people will enjoy a meal that will be complete with an animal protein; most
commonly, chicken. The American people will consume an average of around 9 billion chickens
yearly. ( Poultry Facts ) Of those chickens, nearly 70% are raised in filthy, industrial style warehouses,
having never even seen the sun. ( Broiler Chicken Industry Key Facts 2016 ) These warehouses, or
broiler sheds, pack the chickens tightly together, so much so that they must walk on top of one another
to move around. The chickens are overfed extensively and treated with high amounts of antibiotics
and growth hormones. After only being alive for less than 50 days, the chickens are snatched up and
packed into the back of trucks. Soon the chickens arrive for slaughter and are quickly hung upside
down, stunned, and cut in to pieces. ( The Life of: Broiler Chickens ) I understand that eating animals
is natural for people, excluding vegans and vegetarians; I also eat animals, but I do not understand
why the animals we eat must suffer. Also, due to the unsanitary conditions of the sheds, those who
tirelessly work to keep the flocks alive are likely to suffer from chronic bronchitis, are subjected to
dangerous amounts of E. coli bacteria, and are at a higher risk of contracting a strain of avian viruses,
all just to earn minuscule wages with almost no insurance. (Monbiot George) Additionally, due to the

Economic Effects of a Budget Deficit
The immediate effect of a budget deficit is the negative perception of the general public, both local
and international, on the ability of government to manage its fiscal affairs which seriously impairs its
financial and credit rating including its ability to borrow more money to service the country s foreign
debt. Government is unable then to forthwith address the deficit and, as in the Philippines, starts
blaming everybody else but itself for its budgetary woes.
Still, during times of a budget deficit, the Philippines most particularly makes a knee jerk reaction by
trying to desperately narrow the gap between revenues and expenses through two measures that, far

In the future the govt may have to increase taxes or cut spending in order to reduce the deficit. This

If the govt sells more bonds this is likely to cause interest rates to increase. This is because they will
need to increase interest rates in order to attract investors to buy the extra debt.
If govt interest rates increase this will push up other interest rates as well. * Crowding Out
Increased govt borrowing may cause a decrease in the size of the private sector (see fiscal policy) *
Inflation: * In extreme circumstances the govt may increase the money supply to pay the debt. * If the

Philippines s Macroeconomic Perspective Of The...
Philippines repeatedly experienced boom and bust in its economy since 1980. Having faced huge debt
crisis in 1983 and the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997, it can be said that the nation is back on its feet
from being the sick man of Asia to a tiger cub, and becoming realigned with the ASEAN 6
(Worldbank). The GDP growth has been growing at 4.5 percent under Macapagal Arroyo and even
better under Aquino s at 6 percent. Account balances also recorded surpluses repeatedly since 2003
(CIA Factbook).
There are many factors that played to this growth, clean governance, better tax collection, the growing
Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and the remittances by over 4 million overseas Filipino workers
(OFW). Despite this growth, poverty is still among the challenge of the country. With a population of
over 99 million (est. 2014), 25.2 percent is still living under poverty line (CIA Factbook). By

Copper Cable versus Fiber Optics
Copper Cable (Ethernet) versus fiber optics
The topic we picked to do our presentation on is fiber optics versus cable, which is better for a
company use and what are the future prospects of fiber optics and cable. We also talked about the
history of DSL, broadband, fiber optics, and dial up. There are both pros and cons with fiber optics
and copper cable. The main point for our research is which would companies choose. During our
research there was many obstacles because it was hard to say why companies would choose fiber
optics or copper cable because it varies from company to company. The start of our research had to be
choosing to talk about the history by showing where it all came from.
History:
The research method we used was the internet and it provided us with relevant, interesting
information. When we started our research we wanted to focus on the history of DSL, dial up,
Broadband, and fiber optics. Starting with dial up, it was created in 1962 by Bell with speeds reaching
300 bits per second. dial up evolved over years into standard 56k modem in about 1996 by Dr. Brent
Townshend. Next, DSL was invented in 1988 by Bellcore, DSL was revolutionary because it proved
that data and phone could be sent at the same time using the same line. The next is Broadband it was
created in 1996 by Roger Communications. Broadband is currently the most widely used way to
transport data. It was used in 70% of homes in the US. Last we talked about the history of fiber

Women In The Factory By Ann Farnsworth-Alvear
Over the course of the first half of the twentieth century, factory work, particularly in textiles, in the
Colombian city of Medellin, shifted as being almost exclusively women s work to almost exclusively
men s work. The book Dulcinea in the Factory traces this transition, putting it in context by going
through the full history of factories in Medellin. From the establishment of factories, the early hiring
practices, strikes and their effects on factory work, and the gradual transition of men becoming the
primary workers. The author, Ann Farnsworth Alvear, argues her thesis that the transition from a
primarily female workforce to a primarily male workforce is due to changes in what was seen as

The establishment of the El Control system eradicated the family environment once cultivated by
factory owners. Results were now the overarching goal of the factories and human nuisance was
attempted to be scheduled out. This reorganization of how factories operated meant that hiring across
the board was reduced. Hiring that did occur was exclusively male, the cause of which is cited as new
engineers who taught Medellin factory owners how to restructure their factories favored males. The
truth was that since the late 1930s, mill owners had been steadily replacing female operatives with
males. The new American engineers who preferred men merely capped a process that had begun with
the identification of la mujer obrera as being separate from la clase obrera [the working class]. It was
now gender normative for males to work in textile factories and for women to be absent from them.
The final firm transition to fully male factories was induced by Medellin factory owners importing
gender norms, just as the establishment of women as textile factory workers in the early 1900s had

Nations With A System Of Liberal Democracy
Nations with a system of liberal democracy have a hope to achieve a structure of government that
benefits all citizens equally (Callan, p. 1, 2004). However, countries that claim to be liberal
representative democracies (such as the United States, New Zealand, and the Britain) have failed to be
representative of all the citizens. Due to historical occurrences, traditional gender roles, and lack of
activism from the elite (white men in positions of power), women have been denied their natural
human rights and, as a result, their full potential to become active in the political sphere. As mentioned
by Anne Phillips in Engendering Democracy, [s]ex remains a significant...indicator of where and how

By assuming men and citizens can be used interchangeably, we are excluding women from documents
that directly talk about equality and freedom in liberal democracies. This shows how separation of
men and women rank is ingrained in our society. This is not limited to the United States. Many leading
liberal democracies, such as the United Kingdom, have documentation that uses the word men when
referring to the nation s citizens (Bill of Rights, 1689). Today, there lies a separation of the capabilities
of men and women in the minds of some. This is based on a false understanding of gender roles,
where women must live up to their role of a procreating mother. As Anne Phillips explains in
Engendering Democracy society has programmed young minds to think it is the women s duty to ...
[collect] the children and [make] the tea... and this truly is a vital political concern (Phillips, 97). The
issue lies in status quo, which the elite continue to apply in nations worldwide. By training young
minds to believe they have a specific role to live up to, we are resisting citizen s natural growth and
are instead demanding citizens to follow what has always been done. Women are told to complete
household and family duties while men are told to go into the workforce and bring in an income and
support his family. This system of patriarchy allows men to become

Lord Of The Flies Conch Analysis
Is there such a thing as a game bringing joy and rage? A test bringing confidence and frustration?
What about a conch bringing order and destruction? In the book Lord Of The Flies by William
Golding, there are a group of boys who get stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere. This is
also happening during WWII. The boys assign each other roles. The leader is a boy named Ralph. A
group of hunters is lead by a boy named Jack. The first couple of days on the Island are fine. They
made a fire to signal anyone so that they can get rescued, and they made shelters. Later on in the story,
civilization quickly unravels as almost all the boys are taken over by their savage instincts because of
fear of this creature they call The Beast. In this story, there are many symbols based on objects and
colors. There is even a conch in this story. The conch in Lord Of The Flies begins as order, becomes a
loss of hope, and concludes as being an end to order by being destroyed by savagery. In the beginning
of the story Lord Of The Flies the conch represents order. When Ralph and Piggy first found the
conch, they used it to call a meeting and alert the other boys where they were. On page 16 in Lord Of
The Flies, Piggy says to Ralph We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. They ll come when
they hear us . What Piggy is saying that Ralph should use the conch to call the others. This shows that

popular. The characters created conquered the hearts of many people at that time. DC Comics, a

in 1938 began the era of superheroes and revolutionized the comic industry. This character was
followed by the equally successful Bat man in 1939 ( Comic book ). Superman and Bat man both

of their tremendous influence, from the very beginning, people have been wondering which one of

The Marriage Of Maria Norler Analysis
In the article War Stories: The Search for a Usable Past in the Federal Republic of Germany (1995),
Robert G. Moeller, a professor of history at the University of California, Irvine, focuses on the topical
question of a treatment of the past by Germans in the post World War II Germany. The author argues
that to find a single viewpoint as for the Third Reich period is difficult and the binary opposition of
perpetrator and victim tends to impact the process of the national self awareness and self identification
greatly (1048). This results in an uncertainty of an ethical assessment of the historical past and, what is
more important, demonstration of a selective memory. The purpose of this paper is to provide
interpretation of the 1979 film The Marriage of Maria Braun directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder
(1945 1982), a West German filmmaker and a representative of the New German Cinema movement
of the 1960s 1980s, taking into consideration the ideas revealed in the article by Moeller. In this way,
the main idea of the essay is that in his film, Fassbinder reflects Moeller s concept of the selective
memory by means of dehumanization of film characters while showing the historical post war period
of the German Economic Miracle.
The main character of The Marriage is a woman named Maria. At the beginning of the film, she
marries a Wehrmacht officer Hermann Braun in the city of Berlin, which experiences an artillery
shelling by the Red Army right at the process of the wedding.

  • 2. The Scientific Exploration Of Human Motivation 1. How do economic theories add to the scientific exploration of human motivation? Human motivation is a physiological drive that we all have inside ourselves. There is no way to completely avoid it. Some drives we have are for basic necessities of survival, like the feelings of thirst and hunger. Obviously we must give into the drive that our body is signaling to us we must have because food and water are essential for us to live. When our behavior is directed by means of survival this is something known as homeostasis. According to drive theory, the body maintains a condition of homeostasis, in which any particular system is in balance or equilibrium (C.L. Hull, 1951). Any departure from homeostasis, such as depletion of nutrients or a drop in temperature, produces an aroused condition, or drive, which impels the individual to engage in appropriate action such as eating, drinking, or seeking warmth. Second, it provides a simplified alternative to the itemized deductions for tax payers with comparatively low itemizable expenses, thus relieving them of the record keeping and computational burden of itemizing deductions. Having one provision is a compromise to other but it is a compromise that is unnecessary. (Samansky, 1991) A base sum of income that is not focused to tax and that can be used to decrease a taxpayer s adjusted gross income (AGI), a standard deduction can only be used if the taxpayer does not prefer the itemized deduction method of calculating taxable income. The sum of the standard deduction is based on a taxpayer s filing status, age and whether he or she is disabled or claimed as a reliant on another person s tax return. The major reason taxpayers exercise standard instead of itemized deductions is that taxpayers don t have to keep track of every potential tax deductible expense throughout the year. Plus, a lot of people find the standard deduction amount to be fairly generous and usually greater than the total they could reach if they added up all of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People often overlook or fail to record allowable tax deductions and keep their approach only for the standard amount specified by the IRS. For instance, homeowners often pay more interest and real estate tax than the standard deduction permits. Also, small business owners who have a running home office often can incur additional tax deductions higher than the standard amount. Taxpayers must keep accurate records along with actual receipts to itemize deductions. Failure to do this makes the standard deduction a advantage but also may cost you a lot of money in tax ... • 8. The American War of Independence The American Revolutionary War, also known as the War of Independence, began on April 19th, 1775 with the Battle of Lexington and Concord. The American Revolution was a war between the thirteen colonies and Great Britian. The colonies wanted to gain independence from Great Britian. It was also a rebellion against the monarchy, which lead to the establishment of the republic [CROSS]. The outcome of the war was a victory for the thirteen colonies. The colonist gained independence and British recognition. The Battle of Lexington and Concord was a significant battle because it was the start of the Revolutionary War; there are many events that led to the colonist fighting back. The war started because Great Britain was taxing the colonies. Great Britain imposed the Sugar Act, Stamp Act, Townshend Acts, etc. It was taxation without representation. Many people wrote about what colonists should do. John Dickinson wrote The Letters From a Pennsyvlanvia Farmer and Thomas Paine wrote Common Sense . Both were the actions that they believed that colonist should take and their opinion on the matters. Americans rebelled with the Boston Massacre in 1770 and the Boston Tea Party in 1773 [CITE]. This caused Great Britain to enact the Coercive Acts. The Coercive Acts were divided into three parts: Boston Port Act, Administration of Justice Act, and the Massachusetts Government Act. In my book, All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque, the most intriguing aspect is the loss of innocence by the main character, Paul, and his fellow soldiers. This is a recurring thought that is shown throughout the novel. For instance, when the author writes, It is not fear. Mean who have been up as often as we have become thick skinned (53). When he says this it is amidst the noises of explosions and gunfire. It makes it very evident that the soldiers have become used to the constant racket of war even during the pitch black of night. On top of being all crammed together in a tiny space, they do not speak the same language. This creates a lot of confusion between the orca whales and a lot of times hostility towards one another. All in all the orca whales are forced into a new enclosed environment with other orca whales who are distressed as well. In the film Blackfish, it shows at one point a whale being so distressed that he began to harm the whale that was in the tank with him by biting the poor whale and slamming it against the tanks walls. This is a common result of the social strife of these whales. Orcas are often cut, raked, and rammed by the whales who have been there the longest, often seen as a form of seniority. In one particularly brutal example, Kandu V, a female orca at Sea World, bled to death after 11 years in captivity when an artery was severed at the upper jaw. The wound was self inflicted as she collided with another whale in a display of dominance. Over the next 45 minutes, and in view of the public, she slowly bled out, spouting blood from her blowhole until she died (OrcaProject). This is ideal for those who rather get food off the museum s property. When arriving at the museum we rode on a six minute tram ride. The tram ride was included in the price of parking. Richard Wright s Perspective Of The Sociological Imagination In Wright s point of view, the sociological imagination allows us to understand history and biography and the relation between this two within society. That is its task and its promise. Human s life too connected to society; their lifestyle is whole society. In order to understand the human society, we should look first the sociological imagination. It associated with the individual s biography, history and tradition, personal troubles versus public issues, the social versus the individual. The sociological imagination is an approach to sociology. Each of us has a place in the world. We are all individuals in this world, then as we relate to one another, we grow, we develop. This theory is a part of sociological imagination because of it features all classic work of the social science. Problems have to do with troubles that go beyond these local environments of the individual and the range of his interior life. An issue is a public problem: some rate valued by publics is felt to be disappearing In order to frame issues and troubles, we must question what values are prized yet threatened and what values are cherished and supported by the characterizing developments of our period. We should experience whatever occurs in our own lives as distinctive and isolated, and also to interpret what happens to other people as unique and private to them. It is also a rotary engine extracting energy from flow of combustion gas. Gas turbine is responsible for the conversion of natural gas or any other liquid fuels into mechanical energy. This energy can therefore be used to drive the generator to produce electrical energy [1 3]. Gas turbine is made up of components as shown in Figure 1 below. There are several reasons Dick Allen has love for natural grass and resentment for synthetic grass. Climate, cost, and health of fake grass fields are just three of the many issues in this natural versus turf battle. Some say synthetic fields may be a solution to countries with less favorable climates but with new modern technology, plastic fields are not needed. In places where there is a lack of natural light or blatant cold weather, there are new resolution pathways instead of converting to turf. Excessive exposure to lead, according to the Agency for Toxic Substances Disease Registry (ATSDR), can lead to toxic affects regardless of the exposure pathway. Studies have shown when sliding on the sharp plastics of turf rather than natural grass athletes are seven times more likely to receive a turf burn which in turn increases their risk of receiving MRSA or a Staphylococcus infection. Another massive concern of health comes from Amy Griffin, an associate soccer coach at the University of Washington who discovered two soccer players, which were both goalkeepers, that were diagnosed with cancer. Goal keeper is a position that frequently dives and is thus almost always in contact with the turf and as stated before it does not matter the exposure pathway. The American people will consume an average of around 9 billion chickens yearly. ( Poultry Facts ) Of those chickens, nearly 70% are raised in filthy, industrial style warehouses, having never even seen the sun. ( Broiler Chicken Industry Key Facts 2016 ) These warehouses, or broiler sheds, pack the chickens tightly together, so much so that they must walk on top of one another to move around. The chickens are overfed extensively and treated with high amounts of antibiotics and growth hormones. After only being alive for less than 50 days, the chickens are snatched up and packed into the back of trucks. Soon the chickens arrive for slaughter and are quickly hung upside down, stunned, and cut in to pieces. ( The Life of: Broiler Chickens ) I understand that eating animals is natural for people, excluding vegans and vegetarians; I also eat animals, but I do not understand why the animals we eat must suffer. Also, due to the unsanitary conditions of the sheds, those who tirelessly work to keep the flocks alive are likely to suffer from chronic bronchitis, are subjected to dangerous amounts of E. coli bacteria, and are at a higher risk of contracting a strain of avian viruses, all just to earn minuscule wages with almost no insurance. The GDP growth has been growing at 4.5 percent under Macapagal Arroyo and even better under Aquino s at 6 percent. Account balances also recorded surpluses repeatedly since 2003 (CIA Factbook). • 33. Copper Cable versus Fiber Optics Copper Cable (Ethernet) versus fiber optics The topic we picked to do our presentation on is fiber optics versus cable, which is better for a company use and what are the future prospects of fiber optics and cable. We also talked about the history of DSL, broadband, fiber optics, and dial up. There are both pros and cons with fiber optics and copper cable. The main point for our research is which would companies choose. During our research there was many obstacles because it was hard to say why companies would choose fiber optics or copper cable because it varies from company to company. The start of our research had to be choosing to talk about the history by showing where it all came from. History: The research method we used was the internet and it provided us with relevant, interesting information. When we started our research we wanted to focus on the history of DSL, dial up, Broadband, and fiber optics. Starting with dial up, it was created in 1962 by Bell with speeds reaching 300 bits per second. dial up evolved over years into standard 56k modem in about 1996 by Dr. Brent Townshend. Next, DSL was invented in 1988 by Bellcore, DSL was revolutionary because it proved that data and phone could be sent at the same time using the same line. The next is Broadband it was created in 1996 by Roger Communications. Broadband is currently the most widely used way to transport data. It was used in 70% of homes in the US. From the establishment of factories, the early hiring practices, strikes and their effects on factory work, and the gradual transition of men becoming the primary workers. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The establishment of the El Control system eradicated the family environment once cultivated by factory owners. Results were now the overarching goal of the factories and human nuisance was attempted to be scheduled out. This reorganization of how factories operated meant that hiring across the board was reduced. Hiring that did occur was exclusively male, the cause of which is cited as new engineers who taught Medellin factory owners how to restructure their factories favored males. The truth was that since the late 1930s, mill owners had been steadily replacing female operatives with males. The new American engineers who preferred men merely capped a process that had begun with the identification of la mujer obrera as being separate from la clase obrera [the working class]. It was now gender normative for males to work in textile factories and for women to be absent from them. The final firm transition to fully male factories was induced by Medellin factory owners importing gender norms, just as the establishment of women as textile factory workers in the early 1900s had ... However, countries that claim to be liberal representative democracies (such as the United States, New Zealand, and the Britain) have failed to be representative of all the citizens. Due to historical occurrences, traditional gender roles, and lack of activism from the elite (white men in positions of power), women have been denied their natural human rights and, as a result, their full potential to become active in the political sphere. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By assuming men and citizens can be used interchangeably, we are excluding women from documents that directly talk about equality and freedom in liberal democracies. This shows how separation of men and women rank is ingrained in our society. This is not limited to the United States. Many leading liberal democracies, such as the United Kingdom, have documentation that uses the word men when referring to the nation s citizens (Bill of Rights, 1689). Today, there lies a separation of the capabilities of men and women in the minds of some. This is based on a false understanding of gender roles, where women must live up to their role of a procreating mother. As Anne Phillips explains in Engendering Democracy society has programmed young minds to think it is the women s duty to ... By training young minds to believe they have a specific role to live up to, we are resisting citizen s natural growth and are instead demanding citizens to follow what has always been done. In the book Lord Of The Flies by William Golding, there are a group of boys who get stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere. This is also happening during WWII. The boys assign each other roles. The leader is a boy named Ralph. A group of hunters is lead by a boy named Jack. The first couple of days on the Island are fine. They made a fire to signal anyone so that they can get rescued, and they made shelters. Later on in the story, civilization quickly unravels as almost all the boys are taken over by their savage instincts because of fear of this creature they call The Beast. In this story, there are many symbols based on objects and colors. There is even a conch in this story. The conch in Lord Of The Flies begins as order, becomes a loss of hope, and concludes as being an end to order by being destroyed by savagery. In the beginning of the story Lord Of The Flies the conch represents order. When Ralph and Piggy first found the conch, they used it to call a meeting and alert the other boys where they were. • 39. The Marriage Of Maria Norler Analysis In the article War Stories: The Search for a Usable Past in the Federal Republic of Germany (1995), Robert G. Moeller, a professor of history at the University of California, Irvine, focuses on the topical question of a treatment of the past by Germans in the post World War II Germany. The author argues that to find a single viewpoint as for the Third Reich period is difficult and the binary opposition of perpetrator and victim tends to impact the process of the national self awareness and self identification greatly (1048). This results in an uncertainty of an ethical assessment of the historical past and, what is more important, demonstration of a selective memory. The purpose of this paper is to provide interpretation of the 1979 film The Marriage of Maria Braun directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder (1945 1982), a West German filmmaker and a representative of the New German Cinema movement of the 1960s 1980s, taking into consideration the ideas revealed in the article by Moeller. In this way, the main idea of the essay is that in his film, Fassbinder reflects Moeller s concept of the selective memory by means of dehumanization of film characters while showing the historical post war period of the German Economic Miracle. The main character of The Marriage is a woman named Maria. At the beginning of the film, she marries a Wehrmacht officer Hermann Braun in the city of Berlin, which experiences an artillery shelling by the Red Army right at the process of the wedding. ...
