Alice Walker Research Paper
Alice Walker, famed author and civil rights activist, was born to sharecropper parents in Eatonville,
Georgia in February of 1944. Alice was the youngest daughter of sharecroppers; her mother also
worked as a maid to help support her eight children. At a young age, an incident with her older
brothers seriously damaged her eye when her brother Curtis accidentally shot Walker in the eye with a
BB gun while playing cowboys and Indians. To avoid getting into trouble with their parents, Walker s
frightened brothers made up a story and convinced naive Alice to go along with it. The result was
Walker lost the sight in her right eye. A disfiguring white scar developed. Walker became very self
conscious of this mark. This incident molded her early years and caused her to largely withdraw from
the world around her. She felt ugly and disfigured, so she found solace in reading and writing poetry.
This incident and her modest family roots contributed to her writing style exposed in later works.
Alice went on to graduate as valedictorian of her high school and attended Spelman College and Sarah
Lawrence College on scholarships. She graduated in 1965; this was the same year her first short story
was published. Walker volunteered in the voter registration drives of the 1960s and ... Show more

Walker s work include the strength of bonding with other females, equality for all, human adversity,
and struggles faced particularly by African Americans. Walker penned several novels, all of which
mixed the quest for civil rights of black citizens and the struggle for women s rights as equals. This
valiant effort caused much criticism for Ms. Walker. She was often accused of treating males unfairly;
she was accused of male bashing. In fact, she was labeled as a feminist at the expense of black men.
She strongly denied this allegation. Her response to the label was that she was trying to promote
equality and have equal recognition for females as well as

Innovator Speculation And Its Effect On The Body And For...
Innovator speculation was equipped towards the masses and for the great of society; for instance,
understudies of the Bauhaus were urged to plan items that could be produced on a mechanical scale
and sold at moderate costs (Ryan, 2010). The thoughts of shape takes after capacity and toning it down
would be ideal Another focal rule of modern configuration is the thought of frame takes after capacity
, which implies that plan or engineering ought to exist essentially to fill specific needs. This thought is

the subject of a craftsman s consideration, and, in resistance to the straightness and normality of sans

impact in postmodernist typographical developments too, with these supporting the procedures of

Theodor Herzl s Influence On Judaism
Theodor Herzl was a Jewish poet who pushed not only for the acceptance of his Jewish community,
but also for a homeland for the Jews in the Middle Eastern Palestinian area. He wrote about the
injustices he witnessed, and used his writings as a way to share his opinions. His support for the Israeli
side of the conflict was a direct result of his Jewish upbringing and ethnic background. His writings
were colored with his views and beliefs about the rights of the Jewish people. He greatly impacted the
conflict as he was the visionary for modern Zionism and the reinstitution of a Jewish homeland in
Palestine. Herzl was born in Budapest in 1860. He and his family moved to Vienna in 1878 where he
would later attend college. While in Vienna he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Herzl made valid arguments and was passionate about seeing the day when Jews could reside in their
own land. Peace was something Theodor always kept in mind, he never used violence to make any of
his points. Herzl essentially established Zionism itself, the development of a Jewish nation now
known as Israel. His first goal was to achieve support from his readers and recognition of the issue in
which he felt so strongly. He published Der Judenstaat , or The Jewish State, which quickly became
the primary source of Zionist literature in 1896. Theodor s second goal was to put the idea of a
homeland in Palestine for Jews into action. He did so by advocating the creation of a Jewish Society
or Jewish Company. The Jewish Company would handle the business and real estate aspects of a mass
migration into the land of Palestine. They would purchase the property of migrating Jews and sell it to
the Gentiles for profit. The Jewish Company legally purchased land with the profits and donations
from supporters of the Zionism movement allowing them to buy and sell to Jewish

Analysis Of Digging By Seamus Heaney
Seamus Heaney, one of the most world renowned poets in Ireland, takes pride in his past memories as
a kid, implementing literacy strategies in majority of his poems to share his background. Memories
ultimately builds the foundation of an individual, developmenting both negative and positive
experiences that define a person. Heaney expresses these experiences by utilizing numerous devices,
such as diction, imagery, and tone, to highlight the sensation of physical interactions that he feels. In
one of his poems, Digging , Heaney starts the first stanza with a rhyme scheme, The squat pen rests;
snug as a gun. (Heaney 2) This quote provides a description of the shovel and pinpoints as certain
burden that Heaney feels about the shovel. The words snug as a gun conveys that the shovel gives a
sense of violence and force. However, Heaney must accept the fact that digging is a tradition inherited
from his father and doesn t want to disappoint him. As a result, this thought sets a respectful tone
towards his father in the first stanza and continues on with imagery, describing the action of digging,
Under my window, a clean rasping sound, When the spade sinks into gravelly ground. (Heaney 3)
This reference is defined through Heaney s perspective of his father digging outside. This childhood
memory sparks deep descriptions of actions held within the poem, concentrating on sound, smell, and
sight to feature the response that digging has on Heaney. The hearing of the digging outside the
window proposes that Heaney is writing exactly what he remembers, connecting to the thematic theme
of memories and how it shapes the understanding of an individual. The memory signifies an important
experience in Heaney s life, exemplifying the control that comes in digging and connects this to the
control he has over his life. In addition, in stanzas 8 to 12, Heaney s focal point rests on his rustic Irish
past and the introduction of Heaney s family tradition. This past memory frames the roots and basis in
which he grew up on and expands his perception of digging through the linkage of his father and
grandfather, By God, the old man could handle a spade. Just like his old man. (Heaney 15) From this
sentiment, digging

Family Practitioner Personal Statement
As I stepped off the plane for the first time at Maurice Bishop International Airport on the small island
of Grenada I had no idea where the next four years would take me. I was just a young man from a
small town in rural Iowa who had never lived outside of the United States, setting out on an adventure
to pursue a degree in medicine. While working at a number of local health fairs on the island, I was
able to spend a lot of time interacting with members of the community discussing their personal
struggles with health. For many of my patients it was a poor understanding of how to maintain a
healthy lifestyle or a lack of resources, while others were afraid of the stigma associated with disease
and mental health. Though my time in Grenada was short, it was interactions such as these that
continue to motivate me to focus on primary care, preventative medicine, and decreasing disparities in
healthcare.
Entering my clinical years brought along with it an entirely new set of challenges, but I was pleasantly
surprised to find my niche while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gender Conformity And Expectations Through Time
Orlando by Virginia Woolf addresses the issues of gender conformity and expectations through time;
in this case, three centuries during the Elizabethan Era in the area around Europe. The main character,
Orlando, experiences a gender change during his lifetime to become a female and that drastically
modifies the way that she lives. Through the motif of Orlando s gender change and androgyny,
Orlando experiences both life and love, which is not common for men and women regardless of the
time period. Orlando began life as a young boy, living in a house in the country before being taken
into the city by the Queen. As a child, he encourages himself to chase masculine pursuits in life, as his
father and other ancestors do before him. Despite the encouragement of masculine activities as his
family is known for, during his isolation, he decides instead as an adult that they and their deeds [are]
dust and ashes (Woolf, 81) and that he would like to live life the way that he wants to, as a poet
searching for love. Even as a man, Orlando has the power and authority to live his life how he wishes,
but he always craves love. A poet at heart, Orlando has many loves, such as the girls in his sonnets,
and he always writes about them in the way he finds best. He claims Love [has] meant nothing to him
but sawdust and cinders (40) and he cannot find the love he is always searching for. Without love in
his life, Orlando reaches out to experience new things and thus... this Nobleman [has]...

Australia Federation Encourages Immigration Policy
I heard that Australia federation encourages immigration policy to develop the economy status by

first migration, anyone allowed to arrive in Australia that has called free immigration. When
considering this history, I thought that many number of first or second generation Australians, who
seem to live longer than younger generation, are from British or New Zealand. Also, almost Western

rate in Australia has gradually grown since the late 1940s increased from 1 in 10 Australians (10%) in
1947. Graeme Hugo, being served as a professor of demography at the University of Adelaide, said
that there was huge change as a remarkable record between in 1959 and 2003. The 100,000th

during the 44 years. When classified the country and origin immigrants, the USA, 15 European
countries of which 60% from the UK and more than 1,000 immigrants from China appeared high
record in 1959. Nowadays, human life was longer than 10years, the number of family was reduced by
half and that of advanced women in society was rapidly increased. On the other hand, many job

An Apology To My Prey
Commentary An Apology to my Prey by Joyce Sidman. The purpose of this poem is to help us
understand what people mean when they talk. Body Paragraphs The Author uses sarcastic language to
help us understand what the poem means. For example: when he said Let me offer an apology, too, for
my talons impossibly long and curved... why would you show off while you apologise, you should
feel regretful. In addition to that: when he said, I am sorry. For you, that is. All this works out quite
well for me . You would not be biased when you apologise, only when you are sarcastic. It is a good
way to use expressive language and attract the reader. The author, in this poem, uses figurative
language to grab a reader s interest and curiosity:

How Do Heroes Contribute To Society
Many people have been to a Feed my Starving Children, or a place like it. Even those who haven t are
heroes. Everyone has done something heroic in their life. From returning a dropped wallet, to
volunteering to make food, people who help keep our community a nice place are heroes. Although
there are many things that heroes bring to society three of them are giving hope during difficult times
or events, being positive role models, and sacrificing for the sake of others. That is why heroes bring
an immeasurable amount of help to society.
One thing that heroes bring to society, is giving hope during difficult times or events. First of all, there
are many groups that provide help during natural disasters. For example, Red Cross provides blood

To start, heroes will save others even if it means possibly injuring themselves. For example, everyday
thousands for firefighters risk their lives saving others. They know that becoming a firefighter meant
facing risks and even death, yet they did it to help others. Secondly, heroes use their own money to
support the needs of others. For example, Bill and Melinda Gates created a foundation with their own
money which has donated billions of dollars globally to support people and other organizations. Bill
and Melinda have pledged to give away the majority of their money and keep doing that out of
generosity. Lastly, heroes will sacrifice time and effort in the service of others. For example, anyone
who has volunteered at a food donation service like Feed My Starving Children. It takes both time and
effort to volunteer at a place like this, which is heroic. In conclusion, sacrifice for the sake of others is
another important thing that heroes bring to

Chinatown Essay
Chinatown
Before the 1960s, the era of the Civil Rights Movement and People of Color Movements, ethnic towns
were formed due to the anti ethnic legislation, which forced many people of color to live in certain
areas of the city. After the relaxation of some anti ethnic legislation, especially in residential
segregation, these ethnic towns changed. No longer are these ethnic groups forced to live in
segregated areas due to legislation, but rather because of economic and cultural survival due to the
resources that are found in these ethnic towns. Chinatown, Korea town, and Thai town are ethnic
enclaves that formed due to this process.

During the 1920s, Pilipino Americans congregated along the streets of Main and 1st streets, in the
heart of Downtown Los Angeles adjacent to City Hall. This area was the site of many pool halls,
restaurants, barbershops, taxi dance halls, and hotels where Pilipinos congregated. This was the area
known as Pilipinotown, Southern California s version of San Francisco s Manilatown. However, in the
1930s, Los Angeles started the Bunker Hill Redevelopment Project. The city plan was to redevelop the
Civic Center, the Music Center, high rise hotels and office buildings in the area where Pilipinos
gathered. As a result, many of the earlier Pilipino Americans were forced to leave this area, a clear act
of racist gentrification. They were forced to move in the current site of the proposed Pilipinotown, just
west of downtown, around Temple Street and Beverly Blvd.
Due to the passage of the 1965 Immigration Act, many Pilipinos started to immigrate to the United

Everyday Use Of Electrons In Atoms
Electrons in Atoms
Electrons are the negatively charged particles that can be found in the atom. Electrons will be located
around clouds that surround the nucleus of an atom. All Together the atom creates a negative charge
that will make sure that it balances the positive charge of the protons in the atomic nucleus. These
clouds are at a certain distance from the nucleus which is properly put into the shells. Due to the fact
that electrons move so quickly it is impossible to see where they are at certain point in time. The
overall shape of the shells change depending on how many electrons an element contains. The higher
the atomic number the more higher the shells plus an electron of an atom will have. The main in
electrons is the way that all the elements rely on each other without the negative charge is the positive

The small particles flows through wires and circuits that create currents of electricity. Electrons flow

Differences Between Tweedledland And Alice In Wonderland
The original book of Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll, has many differences
within the plot when compared to the 1951 Disney movie adaptation. One of the differences between
these two adaptations is that in the book, Tweedledee and Tweedledum never appear or are mentioned.
In the movie, Tweedledee and Tweedledum are included. This makes the reader/audience understand
the text differently because there are more characters incorporated into the movie that change the plot.
Adding new characters to the movie change the significance of those characters, because they add new
dialogue and actions to the plot. Another plot difference between these two adaptations has to do with
the caterpillar. In the book, the caterpillar crawls away from Alice. However, the caterpillar turns into
a butterfly in the movie. This is significant to the plot in both the movie and book, because they
symbolize different things. The caterpillar turning into a butterfly signifies how much he has grown
throughout the movie, and it s finally his time to leave. The caterpillar turning into a butterfly in the
movie adds more significance to the plot, because he is transforming into something new. Whereas,
the book simply has the caterpillar crawl away. One of the last differences between these two
adaptations is that in the movie no one could see the cat, except for Alice. This makes the audience
understand the text differently, because the cat has more of a specific meaning to the movie.

Organizational Justice
2.1 Theory Organization justice plays a very important role in employee motivation, loyalty, and well
being (Mc Shane et al, 2013). To minimize the feeling of injustice, corporate leaders have to
understand well of the concepts, theory and forms of organization justice (Mc Shane et al, 2013).
There are three different but overlapping forms of organization justice, which are: Procedural
Organizational Justice, Interactional Organizational Justice and Distributive Organizational Justice (
Elovainio et al, 2002). 2.1.1 Procedural organizational justice: According to Oxford Dictionary,

of informational justice is higher when more sufficiency of explanations are disclosed (Fricchione,
2006). Informational justice shows the transparency in the procedures adopted to accomplish certain
judgment or result (Muzumdar). The second part is called as interpersonal justice which referring to
the respect and dignity with which one treats another (Colquitt et al, 2001). It is how a person is being
treated by his supervisors, subordinates or others (Muzumdar). Treatment by a supervisor is defined as
respect, dignity, motivation, encouragement and so on. Since interactional justice emphasizes one to
one transactions, employees frequently seek it from their supervisors. This creates an opportunity for
the organizations to train union leaders to behave more justly (Skarlicki et al, 1996). They were taught
to give explanations and apologies (informational justice) and to treat their reports with courtesy and

The Six Chief Characteristics Of Philosophy
The main goal behind philosophy is to seek the deepest, and most detailed truth behind everything in
the universe. Many different concepts such as relativism attempt to disprove truth that philosophy
attempts to pursue. To understand what it means for philosophy to pursue truth, we must first

its root parts. If we divide philosophy it comes out to mean love of wisdom, and a philosopher is a
lover of wisdom or truth. Philosophy can be seen as the desire to know deeply the world that is around
us. The next chief characteristic is the basic mood of philosophy. The basic mood of philosophy is
wonder or anxiety in a world we cannot understand to the fullest. This brings us to our next chief
characteristic which is raising fundamental questions. These deep philosophical questions, are raised

Literature Review On Teacher Translanguaging
Allard, E. C. (2017). Re examining teacher translanguaging: An ecological perspective. Bilingual
Research Journal, 40(2), 116 130. DOI: 10.1080/15235882.2017.1306597
The article challenges the positive view towards translanguaging in the ESL classroom. It is aimed to
describe the negative effects of teacher code switching on students English proficiency level in the
Marshall High School (MHS) ESL program with not unified language policy across the curriculum.
Elaine Allard observed two classes during 2009 2010 an ESL reading course and an ESL Science class
of the same group of 12 immigrant students who were in the program for nine months. The researcher
analyzed the data that included a detailed description of classroom interactions, interview records with
students and instructors, and assignments that were given to students. This analysis determines the
efficacy of teaching practice and calls for the importance of context and extra class ecology in
bilingual language use.
Allard defines two important functions of translanguaging in MHS; specifically, these are subject
matter clarification and discussion of curricular content. Even though these components are essential
for students overall progress, students themselves do not find translanguaging helpful. On the
contrary, they consider it as stifling their English learning. Some of the students find it even offensive
taking translanguaging as insufficient exposure to English which disempowers new language identity

Irene Safran Short Story
When Irene Safran was only twenty one years old, her carefree life ended in the face of the Holocaust.
Born to two Jewish parents as one of ten children four girls and six boys in all in Munkachevo,
Czechoslovakia around the year 1923, her world changed in early April 1944 when she and her family
were transferred to a Jewish ghetto. For the next year, Irene s life was a series of deaths, losses, and
humiliations no human should ever have to suffer, culminating, years later, with a triumphant ending.
Her story is proof that the human spirit can triumph over all manner of adversity and evil. It was the
beginning of spring in 1944 when her suffering began: Irene and her family were forcibly evacuated
from her home and brought to Jewish Street in the Jewish ghettos. They left most of their material
possessions behind, carrying what their arms could hold, and lived on the floor of a stranger s house.
She described that street as the dirtiest street [she] ever saw , but she was only there for a few weeks
before being relocated to a brick factory. They stayed at that factory for five days, building temporary
shelters out of bricks and being hit and forced to do tricks like dogs for the pleasure of the German
and Hungarian soldiers, before they and the other Jews were loaded onto cattle trains and sent off to
Auschwitz Birkenau. For three days, Irene and her family those who were in the cart, her mother,
father, three younger sisters and two of her brothers traveled to

The Clash of Faith and Evidence
The Clash of Faith and Evidence History has shown that in the past, religion dominated as an
explanation of knowledge and was used to explain many of the world s mysteries such as why the sun
rises and sets and how the world came to be. Science, using concrete and tested evidence, gave light to
many of these mysteries and debunked the myths created from religion. In today s modern society,
science has advanced in a remarkable fashion. Science has broken down objects into structured
molecules, found the genetic code that makes up an individual s DNA, and it even found a way to
clone a sheep. Scientists of today are beginning to tread into territories that, some would argue, border
along the lines of God s work. With science progressing the way it is, many believe that science and
religion will forever be locked in conflict. However, neither side of the argument have truly been able
to prove the existence of God. It is in this view that both, science and religion, should cooperate with
each other to find the answer instead of senselessly bickering about which side is right. The most
popular view between the conflict of science and religion is incompatibility, that is the view that
science and religion cannot exist together in harmony. In this view, the two are significantly different
approaches to knowledge. Science depends solely on experimental verification, while religion depends
strongly on faith. Advocates of this perspective say that history proves true of the

The Life Of Helen Keller
Born inside a cage, but with every desire to escape and learn about the the intriguing world outside it,
Helen Keller s early life was dismal. Keller used the Habit of Mind Responding with Wonderment and
Awe to escape this cage and interact with the world outside it. Soon, her interactions became changes,
and her changes created a new and better way for blind and non blind people to live. These changes
and her story inspired and illuminated our society to become an equal and just place to live. Keller
used the Habit of Mind, Responding with Wonderment and Awe, to remain optimistic, and create
changes in the ways blind and non blind people live today; while illuminating the world with her heart
changing story and actions.
Born in Tuscumbia, Alabama on July 27, 1880, Keller was robbed of her sight and hearing at an early

Analysis Of The Poem I A Sad Daughter By Michael Ondaatje
Michael Ondaatje uses a unique approach on how a father can communicate affectionately to his
teenage daughter through the use of dramatic monologue. A dramatic monologue, otherwise known as
a persona poem, is a monologue in which the character is talking to an unidentifiable listener at a
dramatic moment in the speaker s life. One of Canada s greatly renowned authors, Ondaatje, is a
native of Sri Lanka, but became a Canadian citizen as a young adult. He is well known for his novel,
An English Patient , which was made into an Academy Award winning movie (Davis). Ondaatje s
poem, To a Sad Daughter , is a first person narrative written in free verse. To a Sad Daughter , follows
the character development of the daughter as she pursues her fascination in hockey. As the narrator
recollects memories concerning his daughter, he describes his admiration for the type of person that
she is; mentioning that he adores her moods, her flaws, and her eccentricity. He would use the term
love however, the daughter is uncomfortable when he expresses that amount of affection towards her.
One of the common fallacies about a father s relationship with his children is that they are irrationally
strict; nonetheless, Ondaatje s use of subtle figurative language, organic imagery, and tone in To a Sad
Daughter contradicts this misconception by discussing a father and daughter s relationship through the
father s perspective. Foremost, Ondaatje applies sophisticated figurative language through

Becoming A Bilingual Provider Essay
There are many strategies that can be implemented to help providers to communicate better with multi
cultural populations. Becoming a bilingual provider will greatly increase the communication process
and the effectiveness of health care when caring for multi culture populations. The provider must be
aware that all Spanish people does not speak the same Spanish. They should not assume because
someone speaks a certain language that they can all so write it. The provider should ask the patient
what language they prefer to use, verbally or written. The provider should be aware of non verbal
clues which can be a barrier to health. They should be aware that personal space has a different

Police Trust
As cited from article Why Police Can t Be Trusted to Decide If Video Should Be Public by Conor
Friederdorf , The killing of an unarmed man in Gardena California is a perfect example of why police
could not be trusted. Trust is perceived in nearly every aspect of one s daily lives. With trust, one is
able to build more relationships with others because one is able to share a part of their life. There are
different kinds of trust which is trust in family, trust in friends, and how fragile trust really is.
One s trust in family is a big importance because one lived with them from birth until one matures.
Most of one s secrets during one s childhood are known by one s family and are trusted to keep them.
One has grown attached to family because they are the closest therefore they are the first to know one

Friendship is a necessary aspect of every human s life. Friends will not let other friends make bad
decisions and will expect others to do the same for them. Trust can be proven to others by doing the
right thing even when one is not asked. If others know that one can handle the responsibility and can
manage to do the right thing, they will not hesitate in providing support and friendship. However,
when the trust between two people have been broken, the friendship and trust is also broken.
One characteristic that makes trust unique is its fragility. To gain the trust of others, one must
continuously prove one s honesty and reliability. To gain complete trust of someone can take years,
but can be lost in a single moment. An example of how delicate trust can really be is in marriage. The
married couple must constantly be honest with each other to gain real trust. This bond can be easily
broken if one of the spouses is caught cheating. Trust in another person can make one feel loved and
supported, while broken trust can lead to the feeling of anger and

Labor Rights In The Crucible
Arthur Miller s play, The Crucible, takes place during the events of the Salem Witch trials in 1692.
Miller states in his opening: When a man rises above the individual villainy displayed, one can only
pity them all, just as we shall be pitied someday. It is impossible for man to organize himself without
repression, and the balance has yet to be struck between order and freedom. Miller s parallels between
Salem of 1692 and America of the 1950s apply to present day American society in racism, sexism, and
workers rights. Children rely on their parents to nurture them as other mammalian offspring do on
theirs. However, without the labor rights activists fighting against excessive working hour
requirements, child labor, and minimal pay, most American children would be facing adult
responsibilities such as paying for utility bills and meals, and would have minimal parent child
relationships. Labor rights activists were suppressed by powerful corporations or companies and
corrupt politicians, just as Miller stated, It is impossible for man to organize himself without
repression, and the balance has yet to be struck between order and freedom. However, the Labor

More recently and long overdue, Finding Dory was added (Stanton, 2016). As a key element to the
plot of the first film, it would be hard not to remember her. Ironically, remembering is something that
the character struggles with throughout the movie, admitting as much to Marlin, another main
character, after a misunderstanding occurs between them while he frantically searches for his missing

Symbolism In Everything That Rises Must Converge By OConnor
In Everything that Rises Must Converge , it appears to be what is a simple story. It seems that O
Connor has written this story which we can easily read and understand without having any struggle
with abstract religion symbolism. Mrs. Chestny holds a different opinion about it she thinks that all
blacks should rise, but on their own side of the fence. Because she offers a penny to a small black
child, in the point of view of her son she is. With all the humiliation that Julian gets by a child s

colored race which no longer take your condescending pennies. Julian also recognizes that the old
manners are obsolete and also that his mother s graciousness is not worth a damn. As well he who
begins to realize, that as we watch his mother die from the blow that the world is not that simple as we
thought he was. As they say it is not a world in which everything is either black or white. That is when
we realize that Everything that Rises Must Converge is not in its entirely a simple story. In the

Using Wireless Sensor Networks, Load Balance, Sensor...
Abstract The efficiency of sensor networks depends on the coverage of the target area. Although, in
general, a sufficient number of sensors are used to ensure a certain degree of redundancy in coverage,
a good sensor deployment method is still necessary to balance the workload of sensors in target area.
In a sensor network sensors can move around to self deploy. The deployment deals with moving
sensors from an initial unbalanced state to balanced state. Therefore, several optimization problems
can be defined to minimize different parameters such as total moving distance, number of moves,
communication cost. There is a unique problem called communication holes in sensor networks, areas
not covered by any node.
In this paper, we will work mainly to detect and remove communication hole in a heterogeneous
wireless sensor network. For this we will study the existing techniques. Finding an efficient
deployment that modifies the existing techniques.
Keywords Wireless sensor networks, load balance, sensor deployment, holes.

Theme Of Selfishness In All My Sons
People Are Selfish According to The Washington Post, 70% of the American population is classified
as being selfish. ( Americans are patriotic, honest, lazy, and selfish, according to Americans: The
Washington Post ) Selfishness is displayed in the play All My Sons, as there is much conflict centered
around one family relating to the ideas of marriage, death, and lying. In this play, the author, Arthur
Miller, reveals that most people really do not care about others, by showing that they are indeed
selfish, so they can look better than other people. This is portrayed by the character Joe Keller. Joe s
selfishness is shown through how he blames others, and tries to cover up his mistakes, rather than
owning up to them. This interpretation is important because it makes the reader think of how they act,
and if they would be that 70% of the American population that is considered selfish. First, Miller
illustrates how Joe acts selfish by depicting how he blames others. In the contents of the play, Joe
tends to blame Steve, his previous business partner, for the majority of his problems. Throughout the
play Steve is in jail because Joe blamed him for manufacturing, and distributing all of the defective
plane parts that eventually lead to the death of twenty one innocent pilots. Miller shows that Joe was
indeed responsible for the manufacturing of the defective plane parts and let Steve face the
repercussions of those actions. When Joe refers to himself by stating, . . .

Strengths And Strengths Of An Individual
Introduction
Capitalizing on one s strengths and using a strengths based approach, rather than a weakness based
approach to personal development has been proven to lead to extraordinary leadership. Focusing on
the strengths that one holds as an individual will help one create a better understanding of the intrinsic
motivations one holds, as well as emote the confident and realistic actions that are needed by leaders.
For this reason, I will be going through the process of the Reflected Best Self exercise, developed by
the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. By undertaking this significant exercise, I
will be able to immerse myself in my strengths and find out what I have to offer myself, those close to
me, as well as future and current associates, thereby helping me understand what kind of leader I am
at the moment as well as finding out how I can become the leader I want to become. This in itself will
serve as my best self portrait which will identify who I am at my best as well as being a conduit to
understanding how to further develop my strengths.
Initial Perspective on Strengths
I have always thought of myself as being a very precise person. No matter what it is that I am doing,
whether it be cleaning around the house, or doing my homework, I always take the time to do it
thoroughly. I am able to do this because I develop a routine for everything I do, even if it is a new
experience. I associate this to my need for having everything be orderly

Improving Customer Satisfaction Without Changing The...
This case study deals with improving customer satisfaction without changing the support cost per call.
The problem was resolved using a Six Sigma DMAIC problem solving methodology. The basic
equation of Six Sigma, Y = f(x), defines the relationship between a dependent variable Y or the
outcome of a process and a set of independent variables x or possible causes which affect the outcome.
In this case study, Y is the new account growth, whereas x is the number of transfers, wait time, and
service. The Company The subject company is an IT Call Center, which is in a highly competitive
industry due to it being the fastest growing industry in the world. With competition being so fierce,
this creates low prices in the given market. Subsequently, for an organization to maintain market share
and profitability, it must offer the best service in the market. The call center provides services to a
variety of customers such as online and telephone services. The responsibilities of a call center are to
handle questions from clients with problems. The company purchased industry data from a
clearinghouse, which gathers a variety of information about customer satisfaction and call center
technical and business performance. By comparing their company to the industry standards, they
discovered their customer satisfaction was average or below the industry standard. The company s
satisfaction rating is 73% on a 100% standardized score, whereas the industry average is 76% and best

The Classical Types Of Love
Love is a special emotion that most individuals strives for. Part of a human s nature is to love and long
for another individual. This feeling has existed since the beginning and will continue to exist until the
end. The term love, however, is very broad. To understand more easily what the term means, the
Ancient Greeks came up with three terms to symbolize the three main types of love. The three
classical types of love are very important to understand, as they will continue to exist until the world
ends. The selected poems read reflect three classical types of love.
One type of love that is present in the selected poems is agape love. Agape love is an unconditional

The speaker in this poem shows the highest form of agape love by offering the sacrifice of his life to
defend his country, to which he honors all. Another type of love that is important within the selected
poems is storge love. Storge love is a type of love between family and friends. Two examples of this
kind of love are what parents naturally feel for their children or the love that friends feel for each
other. This kind of love also contains commitment and sacrifice. Storge love is portrayed heavily in
Shakespeare s Sonnet 116. In the poem, Shakespeare explains that love is not just an object or
something that can be played with, but rather it is a commitment one makes to one they love. He also
says that love never alters or withers through a relationship s ups and downs. Shakespeare writes,
Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
Oh, no! it is an ever fixed mark,
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth s unknown, although his height be taken. (ll. 1 8)
Shakespeare uses a metaphor in line seven as he uses a star as an object to follow. He uses the star to
suggest that love is a guide, and that lovers can look to. Shakespeare makes it very clear that storge
love is very passionate, serious, and not to be taken lightly. As written in this poem, storge love is
unconditional

  • 2. Alice Walker Research Paper Alice Walker, famed author and civil rights activist, was born to sharecropper parents in Eatonville, Georgia in February of 1944. Alice was the youngest daughter of sharecroppers; her mother also worked as a maid to help support her eight children. At a young age, an incident with her older brothers seriously damaged her eye when her brother Curtis accidentally shot Walker in the eye with a BB gun while playing cowboys and Indians. To avoid getting into trouble with their parents, Walker s frightened brothers made up a story and convinced naive Alice to go along with it. The result was Walker lost the sight in her right eye. A disfiguring white scar developed. Walker became very self conscious of this mark. This incident molded her early years and caused her to largely withdraw from the world around her. She felt ugly and disfigured, so she found solace in reading and writing poetry. This incident and her modest family roots contributed to her writing style exposed in later works. Alice went on to graduate as valedictorian of her high school and attended Spelman College and Sarah Lawrence College on scholarships. She graduated in 1965; this was the same year her first short story was published. Walker volunteered in the voter registration drives of the 1960s and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was often accused of treating males unfairly; she was accused of male bashing. In fact, she was labeled as a feminist at the expense of black men. She strongly denied this allegation. Her response to the label was that she was trying to promote equality and have equal recognition for females as well as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Analysis Of Digging By Seamus Heaney Seamus Heaney, one of the most world renowned poets in Ireland, takes pride in his past memories as a kid, implementing literacy strategies in majority of his poems to share his background. Memories ultimately builds the foundation of an individual, developmenting both negative and positive experiences that define a person. Heaney expresses these experiences by utilizing numerous devices, such as diction, imagery, and tone, to highlight the sensation of physical interactions that he feels. In one of his poems, Digging , Heaney starts the first stanza with a rhyme scheme, The squat pen rests; snug as a gun. (Heaney 2) This quote provides a description of the shovel and pinpoints as certain burden that Heaney feels about the shovel. The words snug as a gun conveys that the shovel gives a sense of violence and force. However, Heaney must accept the fact that digging is a tradition inherited from his father and doesn t want to disappoint him. As a result, this thought sets a respectful tone towards his father in the first stanza and continues on with imagery, describing the action of digging, Under my window, a clean rasping sound, When the spade sinks into gravelly ground. (Heaney 3) This reference is defined through Heaney s perspective of his father digging outside. This childhood memory sparks deep descriptions of actions held within the poem, concentrating on sound, smell, and sight to feature the response that digging has on Heaney. The hearing of the digging outside the window proposes that Heaney is writing exactly what he remembers, connecting to the thematic theme of memories and how it shapes the understanding of an individual. The memory signifies an important experience in Heaney s life, exemplifying the control that comes in digging and connects this to the control he has over his life. In addition, in stanzas 8 to 12, Heaney s focal point rests on his rustic Irish past and the introduction of Heaney s family tradition. This past memory frames the roots and basis in which he grew up on and expands his perception of digging through the linkage of his father and grandfather, By God, the old man could handle a spade. Just like his old man. (Heaney 15) From this sentiment, digging ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Family Practitioner Personal Statement As I stepped off the plane for the first time at Maurice Bishop International Airport on the small island of Grenada I had no idea where the next four years would take me. I was just a young man from a small town in rural Iowa who had never lived outside of the United States, setting out on an adventure to pursue a degree in medicine. While working at a number of local health fairs on the island, I was able to spend a lot of time interacting with members of the community discussing their personal struggles with health. For many of my patients it was a poor understanding of how to maintain a healthy lifestyle or a lack of resources, while others were afraid of the stigma associated with disease and mental health. Though my time in Grenada was short, it was interactions such as these that continue to motivate me to focus on primary care, preventative medicine, and decreasing disparities in healthcare. • 11. Gender Conformity And Expectations Through Time Orlando by Virginia Woolf addresses the issues of gender conformity and expectations through time; in this case, three centuries during the Elizabethan Era in the area around Europe. The main character, Orlando, experiences a gender change during his lifetime to become a female and that drastically modifies the way that she lives. Through the motif of Orlando s gender change and androgyny, Orlando experiences both life and love, which is not common for men and women regardless of the time period. Orlando began life as a young boy, living in a house in the country before being taken into the city by the Queen. As a child, he encourages himself to chase masculine pursuits in life, as his father and other ancestors do before him. Despite the encouragement of masculine activities as his family is known for, during his isolation, he decides instead as an adult that they and their deeds [are] dust and ashes (Woolf, 81) and that he would like to live life the way that he wants to, as a poet searching for love. Even as a man, Orlando has the power and authority to live his life how he wishes, but he always craves love. A poet at heart, Orlando has many loves, such as the girls in his sonnets, and he always writes about them in the way he finds best. He claims Love [has] meant nothing to him but sawdust and cinders (40) and he cannot find the love he is always searching for. Without love in his life, Orlando reaches out to experience new things and thus... this Nobleman [has]... ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Differences Between Tweedledland And Alice In Wonderland The original book of Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll, has many differences within the plot when compared to the 1951 Disney movie adaptation. One of the differences between these two adaptations is that in the book, Tweedledee and Tweedledum never appear or are mentioned. In the movie, Tweedledee and Tweedledum are included. This makes the reader/audience understand the text differently because there are more characters incorporated into the movie that change the plot. Adding new characters to the movie change the significance of those characters, because they add new dialogue and actions to the plot. Another plot difference between these two adaptations has to do with the caterpillar. In the book, the caterpillar crawls away from Alice. However, the caterpillar turns into a butterfly in the movie. This is significant to the plot in both the movie and book, because they symbolize different things. The caterpillar turning into a butterfly signifies how much he has grown throughout the movie, and it s finally his time to leave. The caterpillar turning into a butterfly in the movie adds more significance to the plot, because he is transforming into something new. Whereas, the book simply has the caterpillar crawl away. It is aimed to describe the negative effects of teacher code switching on students English proficiency level in the Marshall High School (MHS) ESL program with not unified language policy across the curriculum. Elaine Allard observed two classes during 2009 2010 an ESL reading course and an ESL Science class of the same group of 12 immigrant students who were in the program for nine months. This analysis determines the efficacy of teaching practice and calls for the importance of context and extra class ecology in bilingual language use. Allard defines two important functions of translanguaging in MHS; specifically, these are subject matter clarification and discussion of curricular content. Even though these components are essential for students overall progress, students themselves do not find translanguaging helpful. The Clash of Faith and Evidence The Clash of Faith and Evidence History has shown that in the past, religion dominated as an explanation of knowledge and was used to explain many of the world s mysteries such as why the sun rises and sets and how the world came to be. Science, using concrete and tested evidence, gave light to many of these mysteries and debunked the myths created from religion. In today s modern society, science has advanced in a remarkable fashion. Science has broken down objects into structured molecules, found the genetic code that makes up an individual s DNA, and it even found a way to clone a sheep. Scientists of today are beginning to tread into territories that, some would argue, border along the lines of God s work. With science progressing the way it is, many believe that science and religion will forever be locked in conflict. However, neither side of the argument have truly been able to prove the existence of God. It is in this view that both, science and religion, should cooperate with each other to find the answer instead of senselessly bickering about which side is right. The most popular view between the conflict of science and religion is incompatibility, that is the view that science and religion cannot exist together in harmony. Dory s short term memory loss is a hurdle that she eventually comes to terms with and adapts to at the end of Finding Dory, proving that secure social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Symbolism In Everything That Rises Must Converge By OConnor In Everything that Rises Must Converge , it appears to be what is a simple story. It seems that O Connor has written this story which we can easily read and understand without having any struggle with abstract religion symbolism. Mrs. Chestny holds a different opinion about it she thinks that all blacks should rise, but on their own side of the fence. Because she offers a penny to a small black child, in the point of view of her son she is. With all the humiliation that Julian gets by a child s mother. Julian says that the black women that hits Mrs. Chestny with her purse represents the whole colored race which no longer take your condescending pennies. Julian also recognizes that the old manners are obsolete and also that his mother s graciousness is not worth a damn. As well he who begins to realize, that as we watch his mother die from the blow that the world is not that simple as we thought he was. As they say it is not a world in which everything is either black or white. That is when we realize that Everything that Rises Must Converge is not in its entirely a simple story. • 34. Using Wireless Sensor Networks, Load Balance, Sensor... Abstract The efficiency of sensor networks depends on the coverage of the target area. Although, in general, a sufficient number of sensors are used to ensure a certain degree of redundancy in coverage, a good sensor deployment method is still necessary to balance the workload of sensors in target area. In a sensor network sensors can move around to self deploy. The deployment deals with moving sensors from an initial unbalanced state to balanced state. Therefore, several optimization problems can be defined to minimize different parameters such as total moving distance, number of moves, communication cost. There is a unique problem called communication holes in sensor networks, areas not covered by any node. In this paper, we will work mainly to detect and remove communication hole in a heterogeneous wireless sensor network. For this we will study the existing techniques. Finding an efficient deployment that modifies the existing techniques. Keywords Wireless sensor networks, load balance, sensor deployment, holes. I. INTRODUCTION Wireless sensor network (WSN) is an infrastructure less, dynamic topology, application oriented, multihoping network design with small, sensing wireless distributed nodes. [1] WSN consists of thousand of wireless node distributed in a geographical area. The distributed nodes senses the current status of its region and supply to the next upper which collects different information from different nodes and supplied final information to the ... • 35. Theme Of Selfishness In All My Sons People Are Selfish According to The Washington Post, 70% of the American population is classified as being selfish. ( Americans are patriotic, honest, lazy, and selfish, according to Americans: The Washington Post ) Selfishness is displayed in the play All My Sons, as there is much conflict centered around one family relating to the ideas of marriage, death, and lying. In this play, the author, Arthur Miller, reveals that most people really do not care about others, by showing that they are indeed selfish, so they can look better than other people. This is portrayed by the character Joe Keller. Joe s selfishness is shown through how he blames others, and tries to cover up his mistakes, rather than owning up to them. This interpretation is important because it makes the reader think of how they act, and if they would be that 70% of the American population that is considered selfish. First, Miller illustrates how Joe acts selfish by depicting how he blames others. In the contents of the play, Joe tends to blame Steve, his previous business partner, for the majority of his problems. Throughout the play Steve is in jail because Joe blamed him for manufacturing, and distributing all of the defective plane parts that eventually lead to the death of twenty one innocent pilots. Miller shows that Joe was indeed responsible for the manufacturing of the defective plane parts and let Steve face the repercussions of those actions. When Joe refers to himself by stating, . . . ... • 36. Strengths And Strengths Of An Individual Introduction Capitalizing on one s strengths and using a strengths based approach, rather than a weakness based approach to personal development has been proven to lead to extraordinary leadership. Focusing on the strengths that one holds as an individual will help one create a better understanding of the intrinsic motivations one holds, as well as emote the confident and realistic actions that are needed by leaders. For this reason, I will be going through the process of the Reflected Best Self exercise, developed by the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. By undertaking this significant exercise, I will be able to immerse myself in my strengths and find out what I have to offer myself, those close to me, as well as future and current associates, thereby helping me understand what kind of leader I am at the moment as well as finding out how I can become the leader I want to become. This in itself will serve as my best self portrait which will identify who I am at my best as well as being a conduit to understanding how to further develop my strengths. Initial Perspective on Strengths I have always thought of myself as being a very precise person. No matter what it is that I am doing, whether it be cleaning around the house, or doing my homework, I always take the time to do it thoroughly. I am able to do this because I develop a routine for everything I do, even if it is a new experience. I associate this to my need for having everything be orderly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The problem was resolved using a Six Sigma DMAIC problem solving methodology. The basic equation of Six Sigma, Y = f(x), defines the relationship between a dependent variable Y or the outcome of a process and a set of independent variables x or possible causes which affect the outcome. In this case study, Y is the new account growth, whereas x is the number of transfers, wait time, and service. The Company The subject company is an IT Call Center, which is in a highly competitive industry due to it being the fastest growing industry in the world. With competition being so fierce, this creates low prices in the given market. Subsequently, for an organization to maintain market share and profitability, it must offer the best service in the market. The call center provides services to a variety of customers such as online and telephone services. The responsibilities of a call center are to handle questions from clients with problems. The company purchased industry data from a clearinghouse, which gathers a variety of information about customer satisfaction and call center technical and business performance. • 38. The Classical Types Of Love Love is a special emotion that most individuals strives for. Part of a human s nature is to love and long for another individual. This feeling has existed since the beginning and will continue to exist until the end. The term love, however, is very broad. To understand more easily what the term means, the Ancient Greeks came up with three terms to symbolize the three main types of love. The three classical types of love are very important to understand, as they will continue to exist until the world ends. The selected poems read reflect three classical types of love. One type of love that is present in the selected poems is agape love. Agape love is an unconditional love that is all about sacrifice. Agape love in the highest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The speaker in this poem shows the highest form of agape love by offering the sacrifice of his life to defend his country, to which he honors all. Another type of love that is important within the selected poems is storge love. Storge love is a type of love between family and friends. Two examples of this kind of love are what parents naturally feel for their children or the love that friends feel for each other. This kind of love also contains commitment and sacrifice. Storge love is portrayed heavily in Shakespeare s Sonnet 116. In the poem, Shakespeare explains that love is not just an object or something that can be played with, but rather it is a commitment one makes to one they love. He also says that love never alters or withers through a relationship s ups and downs. Shakespeare writes, Let me not to the marriage of true minds Admit impediments. Love is not love Which alters when it alteration finds, Or bends with the remover to remove: Oh, no! it is an ever fixed mark, That looks on tempests and is never shaken; It is the star to every wandering bark, Whose worth s unknown, although his height be taken. (ll. 1 8) Shakespeare uses a metaphor in line seven as he uses a star as an object to follow. He uses the star to suggest that love is a guide, and that lovers can look to. Shakespeare makes it very clear that storge love is very passionate, serious, and not to be taken lightly. As written in this poem, storge love is unconditional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
