Distopian is a society or place that is unpleasant and bad. Dystopian movies are often based on themes
that play out in the real world. The dystopian movie I am Legend by Francis Lawrence has a theme of
Loss of Humanity. I am Legend is about a woman who spread around a cure or virus saying it was the
cure to cancer. The cure that was said to be the cure to cancer killed everyone on the island. Dr. Robert
Neville is trying to find a cure to the virus that affected the the entire island. Throughout the movie,

My Homecoming Experience
This past weekend, I was visiting my alma mater (Capital University Columbus, Ohio) for their annual
Homecoming weekend. Like many homecoming events, there was various gatherings of different
organizations, walk through various buildings to relive the past and see new changes, watch the annual
football game, and rekindle with old friends. It was then I began thinking about the various traditions
we had at Capital. One tradition involves a gate which faced Main St (a busy street in the
neighborhood where Capital was located) which had its own special traditions. During orientation,
incoming freshmen would enter through the gate to campus to signify you are entering into a new
community/learning experience and at graduation, your class would walk out of the gate as a sign of
you entering into the world as future leaders with a world class education. The tradition or myth told
was that if you exited out of the gate prior to graduation, you would fail out or if you walked through
the gate holding hands with someone...then you two would get married (not sure if I did followed
through this tradition with Amanda). As you can tell, some these are silly traditions. In the Church, we
also have traditions. Coffee is seen as unnamed sacrament as one of my seminary professors would
say is one example. We are also in the midst of talking about the tradition or legacy of Martin Luther
and the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. We know the story, we hear it every October 31st (you
probably have been hearing it a lot more this previous year). Traditions are good to have, they remind
us of where we come from, especially as a Church. Next year, Bethany will be honoring our 125th
anniversary, something many churches do not have the opportunity to celebrate. Yet sometimes,

In the middle of Tobias Wolff s short story Powder, The father says, I ll tell you what I want, I want us
all to be together again, (35). We are left to wonder, how far a father will go to save his relationships
with his family after being stuck on the top of a snowy mountain. Wolff portrays the father as an
inconsiderate man with little care for the well being of his marriage and relationship with his son.
However, when his wife calls for a split, his efforts to save his relationship with his son increase. As
the son notices his father putting in effort to keep his promise to get him home, he develops respect,
trust, and appreciation for his father for taking risk. We are introduced to the father and son s
relationship at the beginning of the story as dry and forced. The son and father are characterized to be
very different in the story. Wolff presents the father as someone that likes to live in the moment and
take risks like a teenager or reckless parent. From when he joked when he said, Now you are an
accomplice, (35) and We go down together, (35). While the son, is shown to be an organized, mature
perfectionist. He stated, I thought ahead... that s why I knew there would be other troopers waiting for

Descriptive Essay About Gymnastics
A big building that you could see from the highway in my hometown, filled with the smell of chalk
and sweat. To most people it was just a building that they would drive by on their way to school or
work, but to me it was called class act and it was where my love for gymnastics started. This building
was where I learned to do my first cartwheel and it was also the place where I spent most of my days
and weeks when I was younger. I loved this place, and even though I ended up stopping gymnastics to
pursue other sports this was my first sport and it played a part in shaping me into the person that I am
today. Even from a young age I could see that gymnastics was going to be a sport that consumed a lot
of my life.
I was pretty young when I began gymnastics, the age of three to be exact and I ended when I was
about nine. Even though I didn t participate in gymnastics for that long and advance to much in my
own skill level, I watched people ahead of me and on the olympic stage. I was able to see how
gymnastics is an art form, and how much talent it takes to advance. Gymnastics requires a lot of talent
and determination because it takes time, patience, and perfection to learn new skills. A skill is a new
flip on the mats or a trick on the bars or beam. I think this is what is amazing about the sport of
gymnastics, it is not something that can be perfected overnight but it must be practiced and practiced
to achieve perfection.
