Essay QuestionDear Constituents,It is my privilege to serve y.docxSALU18
Essay Question:
Dear Constituents,
It is my privilege to serve you as a senator of the great state of Oregon. I am looking forward to representing you in the effort to bring peace and prosperity to America, and more specifically, to our beloved state.
We can all agree that welfare state has been a controversial subject for a long time. As far as its pros are concerned, welfare state provides everyone with the basic minimums they need for survival. Secondly, its ideal is to foster social and economic justice, eliminating monopoly of wealth. However, the cons indicate that the current poverty level is not reflected by the economic status making it very difficult to determine who is liable for benefits. It is also true that welfare state can create a pattern of dependence. Personally, I think welfare state is a very positive thing to have in our society and we can simply work on the cons together to make it better
Welfare is not the only social policy that is controversial. Healthcare under the Affordable Care Act has been as well. The ACT has increased the number of Americans with health insurance. It has also made it more affordable. However, the premiums are higher and it has also increased taxes. I therefore believe that reforms should be made to help improve it.
The United States’ foreign policy role is also important to our success. It makes it possible to have better relationships with other countries. It also improves sectors dependent on foreigners such as tourism and economic cooperation/trade. It, however, makes a country dependent on the other and a wrong step could dilute all the good work done to keep the relationship working. Personally, I think the US should have an extensive foreign policy either way as the cons can be avoided easily.
In conclusion, I am confident that with your support, we will achieve our domestic and international goals to make the United States peaceful and prosperous!
Short Answer Questions:
1. Identify and give a brief description of four U.S. institutions that were created to help manage its financial affairs.
Financial affairs are generally managed by the department of treasury, headed by the secretary of treasury. There are four institutions under the office of treasurer, office of domestic finance, office of international affairs and office of terrorism and financial intelligence. Domestic finance deals with all domestic financial affairs including public affairs, legislative affairs, tax policies etc.
2. What are the U.S. foreign policy goals (identify and provide brief description)? What counts as success?
The U.S. foreign policy goals include promoting peace, preserving national security and securing a global environment by maintaining the balance of power among all nations. The presence of peace in the entire world would guarantee security and a balance of power. As long as all these are in place, then it is safe to say that the policy goals are a success.

A Critique on KUMON English Curriculum.pdfMonique Carr
This critique summarizes issues with the Kumon English curriculum based on the author's experience teaching at Kumon. While the curriculum effectively develops reading skills, it focuses solely on reading comprehension and does not account for student interests. The self-learning approach does not fully adopt characteristics of student-centered learning. Additionally, content is not appropriately tailored to individual student abilities, and assessing students based on tests they can memorize does not ensure comprehension. The fast pace and lack of support for struggling students contributes to high dropout rates. Overall, the curriculum is well-designed but has feasibility issues in real classroom implementation.
Animal Experimentation as a Form of Rescue.pdfMonique Carr
This document explores analyzing animal experimentation through the framework of rescue. The author argues that animal experiments mirror rescue situations by attempting to prevent or alleviate serious human harm from disease. The author then considers various principles of rescue to see if they could morally justify animal experimentation. However, the author finds that all the proposed rescue principles are either not independently plausible or fail to imply animal experimentation is justified. The author concludes it is difficult to justify animal experimentation using a rescue framework.

A Next-Generation Risk Assessment Case Study For Coumarin In Cosmetic ProductsMonique Carr
This study conducted a next-generation risk assessment of 0.1% coumarin in hypothetical face cream and body lotion products without using animal data. Systemic exposure levels were estimated using a physiologically based kinetic model. Existing data on coumarin's structure, bioactivity, and metabolism were compiled. New in vitro assays characterized biological effects across pathways. However, the lack of metabolic competence in 2D cell models led to additional tests in 3D HepaRG cells and identifying metabolites in hepatocytes. Points of departure from all data were compared to exposure levels to calculate a margin of safety for the risk assessment decision. This demonstrated an integrated approach using multiple new approach methodologies.

2. Poverty and the American Dream
The American Dream as defined by James Truslow Adams in 1931 is a national ethos of the United
States in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success, and an upward social
mobility achieved through hard work. Truslow states life should be worse and poorer and fuller for
everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement regardless of social class or
circumstances of birth. The idea of the American Dream is rooted in the United States Declaration of
Independence which proclaims that all men are created equal and that they are endowed by their
Creator with certain inalienable Rights including Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. The
American Dream is viewed by many Americans as not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As he noted in the preface, there was no shortage of such books. What he wanted to contribute was
broad interpretive sensibility that emphasized important historical themes. For Adams, no theme was
more important than what he called that American dream of better, richer, and happier life for all our
of citizens of every rank, which is the greatest contribution we have made to the thought and welfare
of the world. That dream of hope has been present since we became and independent nation, each
generation has seen an uprising of ordinary Americans to save that dream from the forces which
appeared to be overwhelming it.
While Adams may have the coined the phrase of the American Dream, it is apparent that the notion of
the Dream was a prevalent long before the term was engrained in the oral culture of American society.
The roots of the American Dream is evident even in the composition of the Declaration of
Independence. Written in 1776, Cullen suggests that the Declaration of Independence is directly
worded to invoke a spirit of the anything is possible at any moment. He states: Maybe saying that the
Declaration is central in contemporary American life seems odd, since a few of us have actually read
the entire document. And those of us who have can t help but notice that this manifesto, like so much
else about American Revolution, is remote, even tedious. The Key

4. The Effects Of Tax Reform
When gauging the effects of various corporate tax rates, we used two evaluative factors to measure
effectiveness of our proposed policy alternatives. The most important evaluation mechanism for
gauging the effectiveness of tax reform is the change in revenue attributed to the change in policy.
Changes in state gross domestic product are also important to consider when proposing changes to
corporate taxes, because a correlation can be made between tax rates and corporate economic output.
Because Iowa has not reformed its corporate tax rate since 1981, we opted to analyze the effects of
these criteria on other states that have changes their corporate tax rates since 2000. We decided against
analyzing the effects of changes in other Iowa ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meanwhile, Kansas lowered its top tax on corporate income by a mere 0.3% in 2008, bringing the rate
to 7.05%. This change decreased the states revenue collections from corporate taxes by more than
$150 million (2007, 2009, 2010, 2012)1. The results in Kansas represent that when the corporate rate
decreases, revenue collections decrease as well.
The results described above are not by any means consistent. Some states have increased their tax
rates, only to see large declines in corporate tax revenue. By analyzing similar changes in tax rates and
revenue collections in other states, a pattern of correlation begins to emerge, which can be seen in
Figure 4 below.
As Figure 4 illustrates, the correlation between tax rates and revenue generations are assumed to be a
direct correlation; that is, as the tax rate increases, revenue collections increase, and vice versa.
However, this pattern is only true for tax rates that lie on both the high and low ends of the tax scale.
By finding the mean of the highest tax rate of states with recent reforms (Illinois @ 9.5% and
Connecticut @ 9.00%), we calculated ½ of a standard deviation and assume this to be the relevant
range of tax rates where there is no significant correlation with revenue collections. In this range,
increasing or decreasing the corporate tax rate will not automatically lead to similar results in revenue
collections.
Keeping in mind this distribution of tax rates and revenue collections, we

5. Mineral Supplements
The minerals worthy of attention in animal nutrition include calcium, sodium, phosphorous,
magnesium, manganese, copper, iron, zinc, and cobalt. Minerals are required by animals in
substantially less amounts than other nutrients. Minerals perform specific functions in the body and
are added to feedstuff in scientifically predetermined quantities. Minerals help to ensure that animals
have appropriate weight gain and good reproductive characteristics. For livestock feed, animals
acquire some minerals from mineral and salt blocks that are left in the open for them to lick. Additions
to feedstuff may include bone meal, calcium carbonate, limestone, and premixed supplements.

Pregnant cows consume DMI between 16.7 to 21.3 lbs/day. The TDN for this type of animal is

6. Data Analysis And Data Mining
The exponentially increasing amounts of data being generated each year make getting useful
information from that data more and more critical. The information frequently is stored in a data
warehouse, a repository of data gathered from various sources, including corporate databases,
summarized information from internal systems, and data from external sources. Analysis of the data
includes simple query and reporting, statistical analysis, more complex multidimensional analysis, and
data mining. Data analysis and data mining are a subset of business intelligence (BI), which also
incorporates data warehousing, database management systems, and Online. The technologies are
frequently used in customer relationship management (CRM) to analyze patterns and query customer
databases. Large quantities of data are searched and analyzed to discover useful patterns or
relationships, which are then used to predict future behavior. Some estimates indicate that the amount
of new information doubles every three years. To deal with the mountains of data, the information is
stored in a repository of data gathered from various sources, including corporate databases,
summarized information from internal systems, and data from external sources. Properly designed and
implemented, and regularly updated, these repositories, called data warehouses, allow managers at all
levels to extract and examine information about their company, such as its products, operations, and
customers buying habits. A

In most businesses, stakeholders are the customers, investors, shareholders, employees, suppliers,
government agencies, communities and others who have an interest in a company s products,
operations, and markets (Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell, 2011). Ultimately, they not only influence the
course and direction of the company, but the company can influence them as well (Attend, 2015).
Additionally, there are secondary stakeholders, such as: media, trade associations, and special interest
groups who can have a positive impact, especially in times of corruption (Attend, 2015).

by: the US Department of Agriculture, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Food and Drug

direct result of genetically modified foods (Baird, 2015, p. 13).
Politically, where does Monsanto stand? Interestingly, Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who was

9. What Money Can’t Buy by Michael Sandel Essay
The comparison between rich and poor people is a topic with an enormous gap. The bridge between
the two is longer than most see it, and is increasing steadily. Michael Sandel wrote a book discussing
his opposition to the market society in the United States. The focus of Sandel s book lies within the
title, What Money Can t Buy. He believes that everything seems to be for sale and that we are a
society that revolves around the idea of every person for themselves. Sandel also states that inequality
is rising faster than ever. Even though everything is for sale in this day and age, that does not mean
everyone is able to purchase whatever they want. Inequality comes in many forms like race, gender
and age. Income inequality affects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Denver, people can pay anywhere from twenty dollars to thousands of dollars to get their doctor
answering them around the clock. In Tennessee on the other hand, poor people are being told that they
are just going to have to deal with not being supplied with affordable health care anymore. An
argument that can be made from this is that all people should be provided with an affordable health
care. It is something every person needs no matter their age or income. Richer people should not live a
more luxurious life when it comes to health care. Incentives can drive normal people to do crazy
things. Though sometimes, the incentives come in the form of brand new cars. From a business article
in The Huffington Post, Jenna Em describes the Toronto housing market as being a manic housing
phenomena . Homes in Toronto are being sold for no cheaper than $850,000. So already from the start,
the only people that can afford these houses are people with more money. But even for a rich family, a
house for that much is pushing it. That is why some housing communities are offering incentives like
the buyers choice of hardwood floors, kitchens with all new upgrades, or fully finished basements.

10. Chipotle s Strategies In Advertising
You can have any colour you like providing its black, Henry Ford s famous quote resonated with me
while reading about product led companies. In a sense, it seems as though it connects to the idea of
asymmetric or one way communication. To Ford, he had created the product that virtually anyone
would want, but in reality he might have deprived the company of reaching its full potential. In this
sense, it could be considered that Ford took a management perspective that differs from the excellence
project or theory that Grunig (1992) spent time researching. Likewise, the Marks and Spencer case
seemed to follow Fords idea that we know what the consumer wants, regardless of what they tell us.
From the standpoint of someone who has had first hand experience attempting to sell a good or
product at the Akron Zoo, I ve found it more effective to take in feedback from the customer or target
audience. When Marks and Spencer started to advertise, and from what I understood to be engaging in
two way symmetric communication, they found themselves selling more products. ... Show more

faced major hurdles when the global economic downturn hit. Higher unemployment and a decline in
discretionary income slowed demand for air travel in Australia. In particular, business travellers
abandon air travel in favour of teleconferences and e mail. Demand also weakened as Australians have
started to plan travelling internationally.
Market Structure
The domestic flights market can be considered as an oligopoly. The 3 main companies that have the
most market share are Virgin Australia, Jetstar and Tiger Airways Australia.
Trends
Demographic:
Australia is an underpopulated country and is also an ageing. However, over the years the numbers of
migrants have been increasing. With the rising number of migrants, there will most likely be an
increase in the number of domestic flights demanded since they may want to visit other cities

12. Experimental Design Lab Report
D: Evaluation of the Experimental Design
D1 Comments on the appropriateness of the observations or measurements with justification
of/specific reference to precision of the apparatus used. In my experiment, I ensured that I used the
most accurate and precise apparatus possible to ensure the results obtained were accurate. For
measuring the gas volume, I used a gas syringe. A gas syringe is a special low friction syringe for
measuring the volume of gas produced or to insert gas into a reaction. I chose to use the gas syringe as
it is very appropriate and accurate, allowing me to measure the gas volume to an accuracy of 0.5 cm3.
My choice in using the gas syringe as a measurement tool allowed me to ensure my results were

These could be down to variances in the control of controlled variables between groups or different
methods or techniques used to control them. A clear and easily understandable variable that would
affect this mean would be the rate of the swirl or vigour with which it was carried out, for example if a
greater rate of swirling was employed by one group, this would produce a higher value and thus this
value would affect the overall mean, as a swirl pattern with more vigour provides more kinetic energy
to the enzyme and substrate, thus increasing the chance of successful collisions, which subsequently
increases the rate of reaction, biasing the results. Another inconsistency would be the accuracy to
which the minute time period was observed. Depending on the methods employed by each individual
and thus their reaction time and dexterity (example of this would be the time taken to place the bung
in the flask, which could vary from person to person), the results may vary as the gas volume may
increase or decrease depending on the person or even the trial. On this basis, I do believe that a further
trial for pH 7 would be required to ensure a more consistent result is achieved across the

13. Comparing Tears In Heaven, Imaginary Heroes, And Still I Rise
My connections examined the different ways people choose to deal with the feeling of pain and loss.
My four texts are Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton, Imaginary Heroes directed by Dan Harris, How
We Survive written by Mark Rickerby, and Still I Rise written by Maya Angelou. Tears in Heaven and
Imaginary Heroes are similar to each other because they both explain how certain people dealt with
pain and the loss of a loved one. I noticed that Tears in Heaven showed that one can accept the loss,
whereas in Imaginary Heroes we see the negative effects of not being able to deal with grief. How We
Survive and Still I Rise can be connected through the idea that human life is precious, that we should
savour life while it lasts. If we do not remain positive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Mark Rickerby writes in his poem, How We Survive, If we are fortunate, we are given a warning.
If not, there is only the sudden horror, the wrench of being torn apart; of being reminded that nothing
is permanent, not even the ones we love, the ones our lives revolve around. This tells its readers that
no one will live forever, that we need to accept the fact that we will lose the ones we love and possibly
don t love, otherwise they will lose us first. Death is a part of life, and although it is normal to grieve
when we learn of someone s demise, to carrying on grieving and to not jump into that black pit
spiritually or physically, hoping to find them there. This relates to the poem Still I Rise by Maya
Angelou, because they both express how important it is to no wallow in your sorrows because it will
not help you recover. In the poem Still I Rise, it is more about respect or racial acceptance, but overall
it still expresses that we cannot back down or give in. The writer of Still I Rise, Maya Angelou writes
about how she will not be upset and give up to the racial discrimination that has occurred for many
years, even still happening today, against the African American/African race.
In conclusion, we can see that people deal with pain and loss by their own choices.

Explain the Columbian Exchange and its historical significance. In your answer be sure to include the
European, African and American perspectives.
The Columbian Exchange is the term used to described the trade and movement of goods and people
between the New World (Americas) and the old (European Countries). The perspectives and
experiences of the parties involved varied wildly. From the European perspective, the exchange was
extremely profitable and beneficial. The Americas and their people had much to offer the countries of
Europe. One of the primary commodities was land, and lots of it. Undiscovered land contained

Outliers
By Malcolm Gladwell
The Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell attempts to explain the reasons why people become successful in
both controlled and uncontrolled environment. He uses different stories and studies to explain what
makes a person who there are. For example, in chapter one Gladwell says that successful hockey
players if born early in the calendar year this will make them stand out physically among other boys
who are several months younger than they are. Gladwell says that over time, the opportunities that
these players have has help them build up to make them better players. So, Gladwell uses a
sociological perspective to try to explain the reasons for people s success. ... Show more content on

When we look at outliers, when we look at success stories, if we look closely enough, we see lives
with opportunity from the start. To illustrate the importance of culture in success, Gladwell relates a
story of a Colombian pilot who most likely crashed a plane because, even with diminishing fuel, he
wasn t assertive enough to stand up to the intimidating control tower agents and demand to land.
Cultures that encourage passive submission to hierarchy, or who phrase their questions in subtle,
vague euphemisms, may find themselves at a disadvantage in some situations, such as the airplane
cockpit. Other times, your culture works for you. For example, Gladwell explains that Asians who
spent centuries working in rice paddies, a type of farming that requires meticulous care all year long,
passed on this work ethic to their posterity. Many of the inheritors of the rice paddy culture apply the
same diligence in their schoolwork. This diligence, of course, brings more success.
I found this book to be an eye opener to many things that I never really paid attitude to. We all want to
believe that where we come from and who we are does not affect what we will be come. Yes all have

that people would like to be are out of reached for the simple fact that you are not in the right class of

18. Beyond Happiness And Unhappiness Summary
In Steven Donoso s essay Beyond Happiness and Unhappiness, Ekhart Tolle makes his views
concerning how individuals attempt to establish and define their personality clear. He constantly
emphasizes the points that life and Now are one (6) and that we live in a world of mental abstraction,
conceptualization, and image making a world of thought (6). Essentially, what Tolle states is that one
usually do not have much say in who they are or who they are becoming, people are merely
conditioned by external forces such as family and the past, society, technology, and religion to think
the way they do and unless they can see the conditioning in themselves they will be unable to get free
of it. According to Tolle, one of the biggest influences that help to define who we are is our family. He
states that from the moment a parent tells their child their name people s sense of identity... gets bound
up with their mental concepts and mental images of I and me (6). In saying this, he is basically saying
that we are conditioned as soon as we can identify ourselves with our name because at this point, we
have already begun to label ourselves. Along with this, Tolle also explains that as humans we tend to

effects of human madness a thousand times (7) he then goes to say that we had to turn our faces away

19. The reform of the British constitution remains unfinished...
In this essay, I would like to analyse why the reform of the British constitution is seen as unfinished
business. Constitutional reform is when the system of government and how government institutions
interact is changed. This has also meant the codification of some components of the constitution in the
UK. Between 1997 and 2007, there were a considerable number of constitutional reforms introduced
by the Blair governments. These reforms included devolution in Scotland, Wales and Northern
Ireland, decentralisation, reform of the House of Lords and Commons, creations of new legislation
granting greater freedom and rights within the UK, and so on. However, some of them are yet to be
accomplished or in progress related to the electoral and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Until now, the content of the constitutional reform has not covered any electoral reform yet as the
constitution was prone to manipulation by single party governments.
The reform of the Human Rights Act can illustrate that the constitutional reform did not go far
enough. In 1998, the Blair government announced that the citizens rights would be safeguarded and
strengthened through incorporating the European Convention on Human Rights into UK law.
However, this created a problem as the UK now has two sets of rights those built up under Common
Law and those in the Human Rights Act. These two sets of rights may conflict and, in addition, cases
can be taken using these rights to both the UK Supreme Court and the European Court of Human
Rights (which is the supreme court for the European Convention on Human Rights). The UK judiciary
is divided on how to resolve this issue.
The centrepiece of Labour s programme of constitutional reform was undoubtedly devolution. This
was achieved with remarkably few problems. There now seems no likelihood that the new
arrangements could be reversed, even by a Conservative administration. The election on 6 May 1999
of a Parliament in Scotland, with extensive powers of primary legislation as well as tax raising, and an
Assembly in Wales, with powers of secondary legislation only, will have a profound impact on
governance within the UK. In

A study concerned with the possible connections between children s behavior and reading banned

consumption of banned books promoted civic behavior and had no effect on grade point averages and
criminal activity, but increased the internalizing and externalizing mental health symptoms. The
potential correlation between increased symptoms of mental health issues and banned book reading
existed within a small subset of the subjects and cannot be proven to be substantial. Overall, banned
books seem to have little to no negative effect on the majority of children and foster increased civic
behaviors (Ferguson). While the motivation behind banning books seems logical and justified, in
reality, books have no substantial negative effects on most children. In all actuality, banned books
foster increased positive, civic behaviors, likely because they teach children tolerance by exposing

When an endpoint is attacked, it should defend itself, report the attack and reconfigure itself to thwart
the attack based on policy. The responsible security management should provide the policy to the
secure agent in the endpoint in response to the attack, or a priori for use when communication with the
server is severed.
4.1.4 REMOTE POLICY MANAGEMENT
A central security management system defines the configuration of the security controls and functions

25. MAPK And The Regulation Of The Isolation Of Eukaryotic Cells
Introduction Isolation of DNA along with transcriptional material in the nucleus, by the nuclear
envelope, from the cytoplasm and the translational material held there gives the opportunity for exact
regulation (Lange et al, 2006). The nuclear envelope provides the ability for regulation of gene
expression and signal transduction. With this regulation cells can, if exposed to an extracellular signal,
perceive and create an intracellular response to withstand or react to such a signal, for example, by
signalling cascades with the use of mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) (Brown and Sacks,
2009). A protein kinase can phosphorylate a protein at serine, threonine or tyrosine residues which can

The many isoforms of JNK could have varying catalytic activity on their substrates such as the means
to phosphorylate a transcription factor (c Jun) in JNK1 and JNK2 (Liu et al, 2004). JNK
phosphorylate either serine or threonine residues when there is a proline after it (Hibi et al, 1993).
JNK can also be phosphorylated by autophosphorylation most notable in the JNK2 isoforms where it
still allows initiation of substrates with the strongest occurrence in JNK22 (Tsuiki et al, 2003). There
are three kinases involved in the MAPK phosphorelay system which act in series: MAPK kinase
kinase (MKKK), MAP kinase (MKK) and MAPK (JNK), which respond to external stimuli, shown in
Figure 1 (Johnson et al, 2005). There are a wide range of stimuli that can activate regulation of JNK
including ultraviolet irradiation, growth factors (tumour necrosis factor ), cytokines and even protein

Industrial farm animal production (IFAP) is a recent development in how humans manage their food

negative ramifications of this type of animal production.
Using domestic animals primarily for meat is relatively recent. For thousands of years, domestic
animals were exploited for renewable purposes such as milk, wool, traction, riding, and pack
transport. These purposes were prioritised until an animal reached the end of its useful life, whereupon
it might then be eaten.

Global agricultural production doubled four times between 1820 and 1975. Intensified animal
production was seen as a way of providing food security and better nutrition. Pigs and cows began to
be raised on factory farms in 1960s North America. Production shifted from the traditional model of
extensive decentralised family farms to a more concentrated system of fewer producers and much
larger numbers of animals confined in concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFO).
Global numbers
The increasing demand for livestock products is predicated by availability but also influenced by a
combination of population growth, rising incomes, and urbanisation. Brazil and China have seen
remarkable increases in consumption, though still trail most other industrialized countries. Global
annual production is projected to increase from 218 million tons in 1997 1999 to 376 million tons by
2030. Worldwatch Institute reported that IFAP accounted for 30% of world meat production in 1990;
as of 2006, 74% of the world s poultry, 43% of beef, 50% of pork, and 68% of eggs were produced

Following the Six Day War, Israeli settlement and presence in the West Bank and Gaza Strip formed a

the data, it might be better and more helpful to split into two groups based off of their moods and how
attentive they are in that time frame. If done correctly, it would help the results by making them more

30. J. R. R. Tolkien s Impact On Society
J. R. R. Tolkien has left a lasting impression on both the physical and fictional realm. His personality
and worldly works cast ripples throughout the world, while his literature affected the very fabric of
fictional writing. He is an author who is given the place of glory in bookshelves across the nations,
and his novels are cherished by millions. Tolkien reigns supreme as the lord of fictitious writing. Other
works of fantasy are compared to him, the perpetual example of superior authorship. Even decades
after their original publication the words of Tolkien rest securely in the minds of dedicated readers.
His actions and experiences are still beloved and revered. The courageous war service, sagacious

students to feel more connected to her (Vaughan, 1989, p. 24). They have proven that they are equally
qualified and in many cases, are more successful in position of power than men. As we know, the
number of female presidents in higher education is on the rise. What caused this increase? How do
these women differ from their male counterparts? Are women adjusting their personality in the
workplace to fit that of a male dominated level or style of leadership? Is there equality between men
and women for the same levels of leadership? What personality traits exist in women that make them
great leaders? This new phenomenon has piqued my interest because my career is in higher education
and it is my intent to work my way to an executive position within a college or university. At one point
in time, women were not considered tough enough to handle a position of power. Today, women are
