Childhood Family Relationships
Parental child relationships seem to be linked to the health of an individual as they continue through
adulthood. Relationships that are comforting and emotionally important in a child s life are linked to
better overall health in the lifespan of an individual. In this article review, there will be a continual
referral to the behavior model depicted in Chen, Brody, and Miller s article on Childhood Close
Family Relationships and Health (CITE). ...this model proposes that characteristics of family
relationships including support, conflict, obligation, and parenting behaviors evolve and change from
childhood to adolescence. These characteristics, when considered in conjunction with developmental
needs, govern whether childhood family relationships are based on balance positive enough to fill a
moderating role in which they mitigate the effects that childhood adversities have on physical health.
Studies on the main effects of childhood family relationships on health have done much to show a
definitive correlation between childhood family conflicts and poor health. Specifically, conflicts or
adversities such as emotional abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse toward a child, parental mental
health, parental substance abuse problems, and parental divorce have a been linked to poor health in
adult individuals (CITE!!!). There have been a been studies on both the negative and positive family
characteristics. Negative family characteristics or families with a high level of

Paradigms Of The Jewish Culture
Paradigms in Jewish Culture
Judaism is one of the oldest religions in the world. Jewish religious movements, sometimes referred to
as denominations, can be looked at in terms of paradigm shifts in the Jewish Culture. Jewish
denominations include different groups of Jews that have developed since the ancient times. In the
United States, these denominations took the form of three large groups known as Orthodox,
Conservative, and Reform. While each denomination keeps to certain core beliefs, there is diversity
within the faith as a whole.
Orthodox Judaism. Historically, there is no such thing as Orthodoxy (Kress, 2014). This term is used
primarily in North America. The specific term Orthodox Judaism has a recent origin and is used
specifically to differentiate the followers of more traditionally practicing Jews from the more Liberal
Jewish movements (Kress, 2014). The so called ultra Orthodox may be the most recognizable Jews
due to their distinctive garb (Wertheimer, 2014). Many of the people from this denomination live in
densely populated enclaves, speaking Yiddish among themselves, and consciously reject much of the
Western culture. They arrange their family lives, daily routines, finances, and politics in a manner
entirely different from other Jewish denominations (Wertheimer, 2014). The largest following of the
ultra Orthodox consist of Hasidism. Orthodox Judaism believes that both the Written and Oral Torah
are of divine origin, thereby representing the

The Issue Of Premarital Sex
Cohabitation was once considered deviant and unlawful by society, as it was considered to be a
proclamation of premarital sex. (Gault Sherman Draper, 2012). As attitudes toward cohabitation have
become progressively acceptable, it has become increasingly prevalent in today s culture. (Gault
Sherman Draper, 2012). As a result, there has been a decline in the number of couples that are
choosing marriage. Research indicates the likelihood of divorce is increased when a couple lives
together prior to marriage, increasing 166% if the wife had premarital sex and cohabited with another
man before her husband. (Alvare, 2004). There is evidence that despite the rise in numbers of couples
cohabiting, Americans desire more. [T]hey do not merely aspire to parenthood; they do not aspire to a
brief or even life long cohabiting relationship. They aspire to marriage, and the intrinsic permanence
of marriage...Pursuing marital happiness today, then, seems to require a greater unification in law,
policy, and culture of messages about sex and marriage (Alvare, 2004).
Churches and religious organizations often approach the topic of cohabitation from a judgmental
standpoint, and immediately condemn the behavior. Cohabiting couples who reach out to the church
for guidance or seek premarital counseling need healing and restoration, not condemnation.
Consideration needs to be given to the reasons for cohabiting in order to determine the most effective
approach. Marriage Preparation and

How Does Character Development Of The Character Change...
Behind Every Man of Power is a Lady Telling Them Exactly What to Do: The Differences in
Character Development of Eilonwy in Lloyd Alexander s The Book of Three and Hermione in J.K.
Rowling s Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone The main characters in Lloyd Alexander s The
Book of Three and J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone would not have completed
their task without the help of their female companions, Eilonwy and Hermione, respectively. However,
even Eilonwy and Hermione could not have helped their male companions without first looking
inwards at their selves and readjusting their attitudes towards Taran and Harry, respectively. The girls
both progress and change over the course of their adventures, and these changes are the ones that help
them in the end. Without progressing and experiencing their character development, the main goal of
the hero could not have been accomplished. The main character would have failed in their journey
without their female friend because the main characters of both books possess certain downfalls that
are only made positive by the girl s influence. Both girls character developments are dissimilar but
ultimately crucial, despite not being the main characters in their respective stories. Eilonwy is
introduced as a quick witted, defensive fighter who matures into a bold but appreciative protector of
Taran. In The Book of Three, Lloyd Alexander first presents Eilonwy as a very headstrong, but
slightly offensive

An analysis of Case 29: Big Pharma s Marketing Tactics
Introduction
The Big Pharma controversy is about the wide scale marketing malpractices used by big
pharmaceutical companies in America which resulted in a series of negative implications on
consumers. It revolves around pharmaceutical companies, government regulators, health professionals
(or unprofessional ), market consumers and the medical watchdogs. The dispute was formed between
the supporters of the marketing tactics used by pharmaceutical representatives and the detractors to it.
Specifically it is the context that matters: Is it right, or rather ethical for the medical ... Show more

Back in 2009, a study out of Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital found that 84
percent of doctors have ties to drug companies, a ten percent drop from five years earlier. But roughly
two thirds of doctors still accept drug samples, while 70 percent accept food and beverage incentives
from drug companies. And fourteen percent continue to accept cash payments for services. While
some of these unethical practices were tapered off, not all were uprooted. Some doctors did not
disclose the amount of gifts and cash which they have accepted from the drug companies. They
believe that their decisions on the prescription of drugs would not be influenced by the gifts which
they have accepted.
In my opinion, the supporters, primarily the health professionals and representatives of the
pharmaceutical giants, have disregarded the genuine health implications and the high drug costs
incurred to the general public in concern. They might try fending off such moral challenges by
claiming that substantial amount of advertising is necessary to boost the sales of their products.
Securing more profits would also mean more money can be invested on research for better drugs.
However, it is evident that the excessive promotional efforts of drugs have blinded the pharmaceutical
industry, in the pursuit of more profits and sales. Their main concern of profit maximization still

The point of the fish sort is merely that the most obvious, important realities are often the ones that are
hardest to see and talk about. Stated as an English sentence, of course, this just a banal platitude, but
the fact is that in the day to day trenches of adult existence, banal platitudes can have a life or death
importance, or so I wish to suggest to you on this dry and lovely morning. Page 1 This is an example
of pathos because David Wallace is explaining the story he just told in a more logic and formal way to

Wallace talks about religious beliefs, evil, sin, and worshiping material goods. Then he begins to talk
about how adults shoot themselves in the head which makes the readers have a sad, pity, or
sympathetic, emotional response.

Iago And Roderigo
Written by William Shakespeare, Othello is a play of romance, hatred, jealousy and racism. Othello
takes place sometime around the year 1600A.D. Act I of the play is established on a street in Venice.
Iago and Roderigo are arguing over Iago s work to help Roderigo acquire a relationship with the fair
Desdemona. Iago has heard the news that Desdemona, Brabantio s daughter, is getting married to
Othello, a military general. Brabantio is infuriated after Iago and Roderigo told him the news of
Desdemona s marriage, because Othello was what was called a Moor. In this scene, it is also shown
that Iago is furious with the decision by Othello to appoint Michael Cassio as a lieutenant instead of

his point of view when he says, ay, to me. She is abused, stole n from me, and corrupted By spells and

Dehumanized By Margaret Atwood
In today s society, especially in the American education system, there is often an emphasis placed
more on math and science, rather than the arts. Similar to Marc Slouka s central argument in
Dehumanized , Atwood agrees that capitalism has led to a culture where it is almost shameful to
pursue the arts and humanities. This conflict is reflected in Margaret Atwood s Oryx and Crake, where
the protagonist struggles to clutch onto the seemingly intangible value of the arts amidst a capitalist
society where scientific innovation is encouraged. However, even after this society s eradication of
anything that cannot turn a profit, Crake s genetic modification, and the destruction of almost the
entire human race, the efforts to eliminate the arts were still not effective. In this way, Atwood argues
that it is not wise to attempt to eradicate the arts because the need for self expression through arts and
emotions is embedded in what defines humanity. Atwood uses Oryx and Crake as a vehicle to stress
the importance of valuing the arts and humanities in a capitalist society, specifically in the education
system. After high school, Jimmy attends an arts and humanities school, which is clearly underfunded
and looked down upon. The Martha Graham Academy, considered the laughing stock of colleges, was
quite literally falling apart (185). The underfunding of perhaps the only arts and humanities school left
in this society reflects how useless the general public deems studying this field

The Impact Of Feminism In Crimminism
Women have always played a significant role within a societal context to include wars and politics.
However after decades of fighting for equality, society still has not found itself comfortable with
adjusting to the roles and capabilities of a woman. For centuries men have been seen as the dominate
species, thus emerging a fine line amongst gender roles. This process of thought is something that can
often be depicted amongst criminologist, being that a bulk of society studies by scientist and theorist
alike are conducted solely on males. Thus, neglecting the capabilities or undermining the involvement
of women in crime. As a result of this sexist viewpoint, most individuals conduct their study groups on
men and not women; however some individuals modestly include women from time to time.
Furthermore, the omission of women from criminal studies often gives us a false truth to a theory.
This is because we neglect women based on their physiological nature and not the physical state of the
study. Nevertheless, we are unable to truly understand the impact of feminism within criminology
unless we are able to examine the liberal feminist, Marxist feminist, and the radical feminists.
According to Merriam Webster, feminism is defined as the theory of the political, economic, and
social equality of the sexes or an organized activity on the behalf of women s rights and interest
(Merriam Webster, 2017). Therefore, liberal feminist is the emphasis on women obtaining legal and

The Importance Of The Gaia Theory
Known as the Gaia Theory aptly named after the Ancient Greek primordial deity Gaia, a primal
Mother Earth goddess who birthed all life in existence Lovelock argued that organisms would interact
with their inorganic surroundings to form a synergistic self regulating system capable of maintaining
and perpetuating the conditions necessary for life. This self regulatory system, named Gaia, results
from the close coupling between organisms and their environment to create a Mother Earth that seeks
a consistent physical and chemical environment optimal for nurturing life, able to resist change if
necessary. For example, consider a thermostat. If a home becomes too warm or cold for comfortable
living, a thermostat can be adjusted to regulate the temperature and re establish normal, comfortable
heat. In the context of Gaia Theory, rather than seek to restore a pleasant temperature, the Gaia system
will correct for alterations in atmospheric composition, global temperatures, ocean salinity, and other
variables to re establish an environment suitable for life. Moreover, instead of a simple thermostat that
begins the warming or cooling process, the natural, complex relationships between biota (living) and
abiota (non living) will sense the chemical and physical shifts away from preferable levels and trigger
the necessary corrective actions. The Gaia Theory is, at its simplest level, a collection of negative
feedback loops involving living and nonliving components that respond

Gloria Steinem Believing In The True Self Summary
In Believing in the True Self, Gloria Steinem points out that something we are born with is different
from the others. Even though it might not be something fancy, we still have to admit to it because it is
the only way to find your true self and admit it. She asserts that we are proud of ourselves when we
believe in our true self. On the other hand, we might doubt ourselves all the time if we don t believe in
our true self. I totally agree with her ideas. Her first idea seems to me that negative thoughts can easily
change a person. For instance, I want to become a famous singer. However, someone keeps telling me
that I can t do it well, or I never succeed in this way. I probably start to think about those negative
comments. Even though I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, it must be something that we are interested. Because we are always willing to spend our time on
what we are interested instead of something we are forced to do, we always do it well. I think she
wants us to pursue what we want instead of what the others want. For example, I chose a major that I
wasn t interested at the beginning. My parents hoped that I could become an engineer, so they forced
me to choose engineering. I had to take courses that were advanced mathematics. Because math made
me feel anxious and nervous when I was solving a math problem, I definitely hated math. I struggled
finishing math homework and attending math class. I started to cut my math class. Due to that, I got
an F on the first exam in my calculus class. I started to think about what I really wanted to do instead
of what my parents wanted me to do, so I planned to change my major to biology. I had decided to
become a doctor because I wanted to make my childhood ambition come true. Since I had figured out
my goal, I enjoyed attending all my classes, and I got good grades. We don t have much time in our
life, so we should choose something we want to do instead of something the others want me to do. It is
really painful to do something you are not

Why Bikers Are Bad
Most of us know when we are sick or a loved one has passed, how hard it is to cope with everyday
tasks. Bills add up and we fall behind not knowing where to turn for help. You hear all the negativity
on how bikers are all bad; some bikers are bad but, others aren t. There are bikers that help people
with benefit runs, and also with organizing ways of helping people that can t help themselves. Bikers
are your average day to day person. For bikers, it s all about trying to find some independence here in
America (Jonsson). They go to work, they have families, and they live just like one of us. The
negativity that you hear on the news is not all necessarily true. Most of what you hear isn t all cracked
up to be. There have been many headlines and newsfeeds that have made the media shun out the biker
community and make them look bad. Even the big teddy bear bikers have had a hard time to make a
normal life in the average community. Media has made it look like bikers aren t very good people.

Postmodernism And Its Influence On Modern Society
Postmodernism is a complex term that has tried to be describes by many different theorist in many
different ways. Some say that it is so hard to define because it is an idea that emerges across and
variety of disciplines. In its most basic form Postmodernism can be describes at departure from
modernism and is characterized by the self conscious use of earlier styles and conventions, a mixing
of different artistic styles and media, and a general distrust of theories (Oxford Dictionary, 2010). So
with this definition in mind we must look at modernism and the movement away from this to
postmodernism. We will also look at the characteristic of postmodernism and how it is represented in
the media culture.
The phrase postmodernism was used to depict a style in architecture in the early 1960 s, this style used
components from the past architectural styles and combined them to create buildings. This term was
coined and used by cultural and political theorist to express contemporary Western and global society,
two of theorists which will be discussed is Fredric Jameson and Linda Hitcheon who have apposing
views on the theory.
Fredric Jameson is an American literary critic and Marxist political theorist. Jameson argues that a
shift in the economic society began in the late 1960 s, and that the world is moving into a phase he
calls late capitalism. Jameson view is that there is a link between the economic changes that has lead
to a postmodern style of living, however that it

gap, is included in a video lecture. In this study, he discovered that people who do not have
fundamental math and reading skills or do not have a college education have received 25 percent less
income since the 1970 s ( The Achievement Gap: Dr. Ronald F. Ferguson ).
Ferguson continues describing the results of his study by saying that there are not many jobs available
to people who do not have basic skills. Instead, the jobs that are available to them are either taken by
machines, low paying, or overseas ( The Achievement Gap: Dr. Ronald F. Ferguson ).

Farquhar s An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge
An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge had a much unanticipated conclusion, in my opinion. In fact,
after finishing it, I had to revisit everything I thought I knew about what was going on in the story. For
one, I had originally thought that the story was pretty basic plot a tale of a southern well to do planter
s escape from a dreadful fate, which was death by hanging. However the case, it turned out that what I
thought was happening in the story never actually happened. Peyton Farquhar s completely intricate
and valiant escape, which included untying his bonds, evading bullets, swimming to freedom, and
hiking back to the safety of his own home, never occurred. When the military sent him off the bridge
to hang, the rope never broke. Instead the noose held fast, and Farquhar died right there no escape, no

embarrassment for doing so along with his insubstantial perception of reality is what tricked him into

through the story again, I noticed several clues Bierce peppered throughout the great escape to
foreshadow Farquhar s death. For example, Bierce kept mentioning how Farquhar was feeling pain in
his neck and how his mind was getting more and more lost, saying that he had fallen asleep while
walking. Another abnormality I noticed was how the soldiers kept firing shots at Farquhar while he
was escaping, and they never managed to actually shoot him. The shots fired from the weapons are

Hawk Eye Is Not As Infallible As People Think
Section 1: Introduction
Hawk eye is a simulation which is provided by numerous cameras. By tracking the flight of the ball
and projecting its path, Hawk eye is able to triangulate the ball s potential location. Sport has been
notable throughout the years of attempting to eliminate human error using technology, in order to
deliver fair sport to the public. The brand has continued to grow extremely quickly, and is
synonymous with modern day sport. Initially used in Cricket at the turn of the century, it has spread to
numerous sports, most recently football. Whilst both are at differing ends of the spectrum, in terms of
experience in the game, they draw huge contention within the media and amongst players. Fallibility
is a matter discussed widely in sport, and not just in Tennis. This report will thoroughly examine the
article 1by Suzi Gage and discuss the claim presented that Hawk eye is not as infallible as people
think. Therefore, the accuracy of Hawk eye, its weaknesses and any potential advances that would
help progress the technology used in sport will be discussed. Gage bases most of her article findings
on the journal by Harry Collins and Robert Evans2 and the Hawk eye website3, both of which will be
thoroughly scrutinised in order to best determine the validity of the claim.

Theme Of Sex And Rape In Catch-22

The Effects Of Harsh Coaching Of Young Athletes Essay
Harsh coaching of young athletes can often steer kids away from sports all together, but if the coaches
get it right, the kids learn important skills for their futures. At a young age, children need discipline in
order to put them in the right direction for their futures. This discipline is found in numerous forms,
and one of the most common forms is through sports. David Brooks said, The best coaches still live
by a code, and they make no apology for demanding that kids live up to it. (Brooks) Though strict
coaching can turn some young children and their parents away from sports, it can give kids a good
role model, teach them discipline, and help them learn to get along with other people. Parents often
have concerns for how coaches treat their young athletes, but most coaches are the best character role
models that a child will have. As David Brooks, author of the article Organized Sports Can Benefit
Children , says Coaches have become the leading moral instructors in America today. (Brooks).
Groups like The Positive Coaching Alliance exist solely to keep coaches doing their job of creating
mature and respectful athletes (Positive). Children need these positive role models in their lives. Even
if a child has great role models as parents, it is even better to have one outside of the family. A coach
can serve as someone that kids should admire, love, and respect even though they are outside of their
family; this will prepare children for their future of dealing with

Exxon Bligh Reef
In 1989 the oil tanker Exxon Valdez ran aground on Bligh Reef located off the coast of Alaska. The
Exxon Valdez spilled thousands of barrels of oil into Prince William Sound, which was the biggest oil
spill to date. Thousands of animals and hundreds of thousands of birds died in the days immediately
after the spill. The fishing and tourism industries suffered losses estimated in the millions of dollars
(Loeb McCall, 2008). The incident was investigated thoroughly and legal cases were pursued against
ExxonMobile. There were several parts to this case. Parts of the case were not disputed and
understood as proper protocol, this included why the ship went off path into the Bligh Reef area (Loeb
McCall, 2008). The ship had recognized icebergs and had notified the coastal guard of their new
intended path in order to avoid the icebergs (Loeb McCall, 2008). The point that was disputed was the
condition of Captain Hazelwood during the route change. It was believed that when Captain

Exxon appeared to respond to the situation in the form of compensating each claim in the total sum of
upward to 2 billion dollars (Loeb McCall, 2008). Their ethical implications at the time were admitting

ethical implication that faced Exxon was their decision to allow their Captain to maintain his position
even with their knowledge of his substance abuse. Many argue that this incident could have been
avoided if Exxon would have removed the Captain from his post or had him switch to a position
where safety is a main focus. Another ethical concern was Exxon fighting the decision punitive

Administrators should remove default passwords and disable unnecessary default accounts and non
essential functionality before the devices are installed on the network. An inventory of system
components that are a part of the cycle for PCI DSS must be maintained.
Requirement number three is to protect stored cardholder data using encryption, truncation, masking
and hashing as part of the cardholder data protection. If a hacker manages to bypass the security
protection and get access to the encrypted data, the information is unreadable and useless without the
correct cryptographic key. Only the minimal amount of cardholder data should be stored whenever
possible. There should also be policies for data retention and disposal procedures of cardholder data
storage. Only store the minimal data needed, do not store the entire track of contents of magnetic
strips, card verification code, or PIN number. PAN numbers must be rendered unreadable anywhere
they are stored. Cryptographic keys should be stored in as few locations as possible and under secure
encrypted devices.
The fourth requirement states that the entities must encrypt transmission of cardholder data when done
across open or public networks. It is required that entities use strong cryptography and security
protocols to maintain security of cardholder data during transmission. You should never send PAN
information by email, instant messaging, chat, or other messaging technology.

Timbuk2 Case
Timbuk2: Outsourcing, Offshoring and Mass Customization Introduction: Timbuk2 was founded in
1989 by Rob Honeycutt, a San Francisco bike messenger. Honeycutt wanted to develop a messenger
bag that was rugged enough for everyday wear and tear, but chic enough to set a fashion trend. The
company founded its success based on its lean manufacturing and mass customization principles. With
many of the American companies now outsourcing their manufacturing processes to China, it became
hard for Timbuk2 executives to ignore the labor cost benefits that Chinese manufacturing would
provide. Dealing with different channels (wholesale/retailers, e commerce, etc), Timbuk2 also had to

According to the case, the labor costs for mass customization is about 10% higher than labor costs for
large batches or traditional manufacturing. In order for mass customization to work, Timbuk2 will
need to determine how many color palettes, design patterns and the types of logos to offer their
customers. Overall their challenge for mass customization is to determine whether or not their
machines and workforce is capable of manufacturing the design the customer specified. Mass
customization and variety can also lead to higher potential for errors. Errors in manufacturing can lead
to higher labor cost; the time and money it would take to correct the order is a potential threat to their
profitability. One of the benefits of mass customization is that Timbuk2 will provide its customers
with perceived value added to their products. The customer can design his/her own bag according to
his/her preference, which adds the value of uniqueness to the product. Considering the mass
customization option, one needs to consider the inventory in stock. With customization, Timbuk2 s
manufacturing department can actually work with less finished good inventory, since the inventory is
sent off as soon as it s finished. They will have less finished goods inventory in stock, which will in
turn allow them to offer certain, stocked products at a reduced price. Due to its mass customization
practices already in place, it shows that if Timbuk2 were to offer

Chronic Illness Of The American Population
A child is not their disease, neither is their family. However, it is often difficult for them to disconnect
their self from the detrimental effects of it. In spite of the fact that the majority of the American
population appears quite healthy, over 32 million children are currently suffering from a chronic
illness. According to njhealth.org, chronic illness is an illness that may last throughout a person s life,
although the frequency and severity of symptoms can change. Nearly 43% of American children are
currently afflicted with at least 1 of many chronic ailments ranging from diabetes to cancer. Many of
these children may never return to their precedent state of well being; physically, emotionally, socially,
and psychologically. During such horrific times as these it is important to remember that the children
are not the only ones suffering; their family is as well. Children who are physically ill have a tendency
to feel more psychological distress than those who are not. A decrease in ones physical health can lead
to and increased risk of depression, hopelessness, helplessness and anger. Social and relationship
issues that are extremely common amongst patients who are ill also cause an increase in these
emotions. Disease has the ability to ravage the self and outside relationships. It is especially important
during times such as these to remember that ones physical and emotional health is in correlation to one
another. Your body reciprocates to the way you feel,

Catcher In The Rye Vs. Don Quixote Essay
J.D. Salinger s TheCatcher in the Rye can be compared to Cervantes Don Quixote. Both novels feature
naive protagonists pining for an ideal world. In Salinger s novel, Holden Caulfield is a sixteen year old
who experiences challenging and questionable events in the mid stage of his adolescence. Holden
wants to protect the innocent children like the catcher in the rye from the immorality and corruptness
of the phony adult world. In Cervantes work, Don Quixote is the idealistic protagonist who sets out to
transform the world in accordance to his medieval vision. His growing obsession with stories of
knighthood and books of chivalry leads him to abandon his former life and become a wandering
knight set out to right the world s wrongs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Holden was walking up the stairs he sees fuck you written on the wall and rubs it off with his hand.
Then, later as he is going down a different staircase he sees the same phrase on the wall, but this time
scratched in with a knife so he can t efface it. At that moment, he thought that there would be millions
of signs just like that one in the world. There was no way he could eradicate all of them. Even in the
peace of the Egyptian tomb room at the museum there is a fuck you written in crayon. At this point, he
is hopeless and realizes that his dreams are unattainable.
In the carousel scene with Phoebe Holden reluctantly accepts the fact that everyone loses his or her
innocence. While on the carousel, Phoebe joins the other kids in trying to grab for the gold rings.
Although Holden is afraid that she will fall off the horse, he realizes that he can t stop her. He states,
The thing is with kids is; if they want to grab for the gold ring, you have to let them do it and not say
anything. If they fall off, they fall off, but it s bad if you say anything to them.
Similarly, Cervantes Don Quixote portrays an idealistic protagonist who sets out to transform the
world in accordance to his medieval vision. The novel opens by briefly describing the main character s
fascination with chivralic stories. He dreams for the way things were in the times of knights and the
code of chivalry. Even though he lived in the Renaissance Era, he decided to turn his dream into

Good ideas exist everywhere, but the bad news is that they can be used for the wrong purposes. Even
in The Once and Future King by T. H. White, this proposition eventually comes to pass by King
Arthur. King Arthur s idea for the Knights of the Round Table soon crumbled over time because he
became so entangled in preserving his idea that his optimism shielded him from the reality of what
was truly going on with his kingdom, knights, and the war. By the beginning of Arthur s reign, he
already started to fight wars against the opposing kingdom of, Orkney. Gawaine mentioned in the

Rudyard Kipling Metaphors
Rudyard Kipling, an English poet born in India, was known for his classic poems that reflect the harsh
treatment he received in America. From such a harsh past, Kipling was able to describe several topics
through the use of multiple stylistic elements. The author creates a theme of the cruelty of society in
his poems If , The Thousandth Man, and The White Man s Burden through the use of metaphors, little
imagery, and repetition. To begin, Kipling uses a metaphor heavy writing style to effectively get his
point across. In the poem If , Kipling uses metaphors to create more meaning behind the quote, If you
can bear to hear the truth you ve spoken / twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools ( If Lines 13 14).

An example of where Kipling could ve elaborated on his ideas with imagery is when he implied that
Yours is the Earth and all that s in it ( If Line 31). Here, Kipling presents himself with an opportunity
to further elaborate on the subject. While he could have described what the reader can obtain or gain
from the world, Kipling keeps it open to our imagination to decide what s in it. Another example of
where Kipling could ve elaborated his ideas with imagery is when he exaggerated that Nine hundred
and ninety nine of em go / by your looks, or your acts, or your glory ( The Thousandth Man Lines 11
12). The lack of adjectives used by Kipling in this text prevents him from being able to describe each
of these aspects. This suggests that the nine hundred and ninety nine people are blind by what you are
actually doing, and only view you by your authority. One last scenario of where Kipling could ve
elaborated his ideas with imagery is when he orders his sons to Go bind ... to exile / to serve [the]
captives need ( The White Man s Burden Lines 3 4). Based on Kipling s idea on slavery, he could have
emphasized using more imagery. Using imagery, the author would have better revealed his idea of
slaves being shackled and put to work against their

The Coaster Of The Roller Coaster
Our roller coaster is about three and a half feet tall and two feet wide. It has one loop, two funnels,
three turns, one five part zig zag, and one pulley leading from the end to the top, and four bells that
rang and vibrated when the marble hit them. Our group divided the work by, assigning people jobs,
then switching after a while. An example of that some people would score and other group members
would fold, or some would build and others would test, and we took turns switching jobs. Something
surprising we learned during construction is that it is very hard to make turns out of paper. Something
else that went well for our group was making a bucket load of materials before we started really
making the roller coaster. Another thing that went well for us was using a very strong foundation and
structure before starting on the track. Also, we had to reinforce the structure when the roller coaster
started wobbling a bit. The pulley was a bit of a challenge because it was hard to make and we ran out
of string many times. We had to use much thicker string which held the pulley together, but created
too much friction. Lastly, after we spray painted it, parts of the roller coaster started falling apart, like
the pulley. Fixed the kinks in the roller coaster, and our finished product was Marbolous! In our
construction our group would change how we constructed the pulley, the crooked columns, and the
lack of sloping nearing the end. The main problem we had with the pulley, was the

What Is The Mood Of She Walks In Beauty
In literature, authors use different stylistic elements to establish their viewpoints on a variety of topics
without directly stating it. Or, they can state it and give descriptive details about their viewpoint. Lord
Byron does this in his poem She Walks In Beauty . Through the uses of details, diction, and language,
Byron is able to create a passionate tone throughout the poem when describing the beauty of the
woman. The beginning of the poem uses a great deal of romantic details to put emphasis on the beauty
of the woman that is described in Byron s poem. The details used by Byron focuses on the physical
features of the woman that make her strikingly beautiful and stand out to him. For instance, to put
emphasis on the beauty of the woman, he compares her to the night of cloudless climes and starry
skies (2 Byron). In addition, he also describes her raven tress or her hair in other words, and how
gracefully it moves and how it s one of the characteristics that make her beautiful. Moreover, Byron

Pathology Of Pornography
CHAPTER 3 Abjection as a Pathological Source of Violence in Pinter It is a truth, universally
accepted, that man is a social animal. Man cannot live alone. This characteristic of man along with his
capacity to think, communicate and achieve his goals in an astute manner separates him from other
animals. Man is dependent on others from his birth until the time of his death for the fulfillment of his
physical and emotional needs. The primitive men formed associations on the basis of common likes,
dislikes, practices, customs, and most importantly on the basis of the inherent sexual drive to copulate
with the opposite gender. These associations led to the formation of a society which as defined by
R.M. Maciver is a web of social relationships (Society: An Introductory Analysis 5). Thus society
does not just comprise individuals, but it also includes the multifaceted patterns of the interactions and
relationships that arise among them. An important fact to be noted here is that man is not for the
society, but society is for man and for a society and its members to flourish and progress, there is a
need for favorable social, political and economic conditions. Any sharp deviation from these favorable
conditions leads to chaos and ultimately the disorganization of the society. Since it is man who forms
his associations and relationships and on a larger level the society, it is very important to understand
the working of the human mind and its impact on the functioning of the

Thank You For Smoking Ethical Quotes
True success can only be achieved should one be able to accept their way of life despite the views and
criticism of others. In the novel Thank You For Smoking written by Christopher Buckley, the novel
centers around Nick Naylor, a spokesman for a tobacco company, infamous for his unethical methods
in the way he performs. As ruthless as he seems, however, it is due to this type of character that
Naylor is able to come out on top and become the successful man he is today. Using Nick Naylor,
Buckley demonstrates how humans are able to achieve the success they desire, but only if they are
able to act on their own accord to do so. By following through decisions that are decided by oneself

Andrew Carnegie s Impact On The Industrial Revolution
In the movie, The Richest Man in the World, Andrew Carnegie played a major role in influencing the
Industrial Revolution, which changed the economy of the US and the world forever. This era brought
upon significant changes through economic developments that would not only change the ways of the
economy but also the social aspect of society, especially within the cities where this growth was
located. The shift from hand made to machine made products increased productivity and decreased

It also made production easier, faster, and cheaper since workers made an abundant of products within
a short amount of time. Mass production in factories was possible because of the invention of
machineries, leading to products being made without costing businesses as much money compared to
if the products were hand made. Because products were made in factories, this also caused retail
prices of the products to decrease while there was always accessibility for the supplies. The
establishment of large corporations replaced small businesses, which was good news for the wealthy
but bad news for individuals who owned their own small stores.
On the other hand, because of the establishment of factories by businessmen, the workers lives
became hard as they faced unfair working conditions in dirty and small working places. They worked
long hours with no break. The machines used in factories were also very dangerous and led to workers
enduring injuries. Unskilled labor did not even require training. During the Industrial Revolution,
child labor became common since it was cheaper to have children working. Instead of earning an
education, children started working as early as 8 years old. Also, factories produced pollution within
the cities because of all the coal that was being used for power, leading smoke to contaminate the air.

How Did Christopher Columbus Contribute To The Age Of...
In a quote from a letter from Christopher Columbus to King Ferdinand on July 7, 1503: Gold is most
excellent; gold is treasure, and he who possesses it does all he wishes to in this world.
(UnderstandingPrejudice.org) Ever since the first inklings of European expansion, explorers like
Christopher Columbus had money and power of the mind, an ideology that has profoundly affected
our world in the modern age, while resonating thousands of years into the past. Christopher Columbus
would find patrons who shared this ideology in the form of the king and queen of Spain, who would
provide the funds and ships necessary to launch Spain and Columbus into the mainstream of history
argued as the most important (and possibly infamous) exploratory sail of man. In the old motto of
God, Gold, and Glory, the actions that Christopher Columbus partook in the name of Spain begins to
compound into an understanding that plants its roots in empire and Christianity, a continuance of
perceivable inevitability since the early Romans. There are three main reasons that Columbus
embarked on his journey with the support of Spain; the promise of gold and colonial expansion, an
exuberant fervor on the part of Columbus during his exploration, and an increasingly competitive
imperial machine controlling Europe at the time.
First, it is important to address the massive desire for wealth that countries experienced in the Age of
Exploration. Kingdoms for the most part stayed intertwined in the system of

Literary Analysis Of The House Of Mirth
House of Mirth is a novel that revolves on Lily Bart trying to find a husband in order to have a
successful life and gives a glimpse to upper class society in the late 1800s and early 1900s. For the
first passage, Selden ponders on Lily Bart. For the second passage, Lily talks to Gerty about her true
intentions of marriage when Lily is distressed about her current state and the choices she has made.
Through a close reading of the two passages, the diction, grammatical elements, and poetic devices
utilized in these passages help unearth the hidden messages of those passages. For the first passage,
through diction, the passage sheds new light. The words no less conscious convey that Selden was not
less aware about what people talked about Lily after getting to know Lily better through their talks at

that most of her friends perceive. However, they fail to perceive Lily s true self, since Lily attempts a

the American Women Suffrage Association. (AWSA) Elizabeth C. Stanton and Susan B. Anthony

Elizabeth C. Stanton and Susan B. Anthony founded the (AERA) in 1866 to secure voting rights. The

Long-Term Effects of Global Tourism on Economy
Long term effects of global tourism on economy
Tourism is the travel tour activities which provides travelers leisure facilities and service industry.
And it is also a kind of leisure entertainment that has complex social phenomenon, involves the
politics, economy, culture, history, geography, law, and other social fields. Generally speaking,
tourism has a profound impact for the country.
Tourism gradually has become a prevalent activity all over the world. Compared to 2009, there were
1002 million international tourists in 2010, which increased 6.6% over the last year.(UNWTO, 2011)
And then, according to the the United Nations World Tourism Organization s (UNWTO) report, in the
first two months of 2011, the number of International ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The report said that there were 98 million people were employed directly in 2011 because of the
tourism industry all around the world(WTTC(2), 2012). This might be the biggest benefit for the
tourism industry and the local citizens. Furthermore, being employed means there will have the
opportunity to make money, not only for the industry but also for the people. In consequence, this will
be a win win situation, tourism helps local establish the foundation of the economy, and the local
government helps the tourism industry to win interest and prestige.
Long term effects of global tourism on economy
However, there are some negative points of tourism. One of them is the seasonal employment in
some places, and this will lead to the many people facing the problem of unemployment outside of the
peak tourist season. For example, this will occur in tourist attractions and resort towns, if an attraction
opens to the visitors, like skiing in Swiss in the winter. The skiing coaches will teach people how to go
skiing, but once the snow melted, they will lose their jobs and the staff as well. Furthermore, the
impact of tourism on the environment is a significant issue as the climate change is most troublesome
problem. Over the years, the environmental pollution caused by tourism was almost out of control,
such as deforestation and CO2 emissions from increased air travel, has already

Wisconsin University is located in Madison, Wisconsin. Wisconsin University, or UW, is located in
Milwaukee s upper east side, close to Lake Michigan. Many streets in Madison, including Hamilton
Street, Washington Avenue, Franklin Street, and Paterson Street, are named after many of the signers
of the Constitution. Madison is the second largest city in Wisconsin, and the eighty first largest in the
United States. Madison, which is the current capitol of Wisconsin, was not always the capitol.
Belmont was the original capitol of Wisconsin.
There are many odd things about Madison, but one of the oddest things would be that the city s
official bird is the plastic pink flamingo. This was declared after the infamous prank on Bascom ...

The Brain s Guide to Survival
The medical field is an innovative world of experimentation and discoveries. As new discoveries
continue to happen, new solutions are created for existing problem. However, there are many
situations where there is no known solution. When something like this occurs, scientists work to use
hypotheses, evidence, and science to find a new solution. After this, testing must be done to discover if
what they came up with is safe and effective. There are some who find the process to be unethical.
These people may worry about the safety of those being tested on. While there are many debates on
the ethicality of human testing to further research on the brain, whenever standards and set procedures

One of the main concerns presented is that if a person is suffering from an abnormal problem, then
their judgement is most likely impaired or biased (Ford 73 82). Diseases can also contribute to
impaired thinking. For example, in chapter seven of the book, The Patient s Brain: The Neuroscience
Behind the Doctor Patient Relationship by Fabrizio Benedetti, explains how someone with dementia
may not go through key things that an average sick person experiences: feeling sick, seeking a
solution, meeting with a therapist, or going through therapy. With diseases like dementia pain,
understanding, and goals may be completely different then the majority of diseases (Benedetti 328).
Therefore, patients like this may not to be able to see the risk in a potential remedy. In order to safely
test out new discoveries, there must be a way for the patient to understand what could happen to them.
Without understanding, there can never be true safety. Patients must be able to comprehend a
procedure in order to decide if they would like to participate in it. Ethicists find the problem of
impaired judgement to be especially concerning. If the patient s judgement is impaired, then the
patient is unable to make a clear decision on if they are okay with the potential risks, and if they
understand the process of the problem and

Relationships that are comforting and emotionally important in a child s life are linked to better overall health in the lifespan of an individual. In this article review, there will be a continual referral to the behavior model depicted in Chen, Brody, and Miller s article on Childhood Close Family Relationships and Health (CITE). ...this model proposes that characteristics of family relationships including support, conflict, obligation, and parenting behaviors evolve and change from childhood to adolescence. These characteristics, when considered in conjunction with developmental needs, govern whether childhood family relationships are based on balance positive enough to fill a moderating role in which they mitigate the effects that childhood adversities have on physical health. Studies on the main effects of childhood family relationships on health have done much to show a definitive correlation between childhood family conflicts and poor health. Specifically, conflicts or adversities such as emotional abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse toward a child, parental mental health, parental substance abuse problems, and parental divorce have a been linked to poor health in adult individuals (CITE!!!). There have been a been studies on both the negative and positive family characteristics. Negative family characteristics or families with a high level of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Paradigms Of The Jewish Culture Paradigms in Jewish Culture Judaism is one of the oldest religions in the world. Jewish religious movements, sometimes referred to as denominations, can be looked at in terms of paradigm shifts in the Jewish Culture. Jewish denominations include different groups of Jews that have developed since the ancient times. In the United States, these denominations took the form of three large groups known as Orthodox, Conservative, and Reform. While each denomination keeps to certain core beliefs, there is diversity within the faith as a whole. Orthodox Judaism. Historically, there is no such thing as Orthodoxy (Kress, 2014). This term is used primarily in North America. The specific term Orthodox Judaism has a recent origin and is used specifically to differentiate the followers of more traditionally practicing Jews from the more Liberal Jewish movements (Kress, 2014). The so called ultra Orthodox may be the most recognizable Jews due to their distinctive garb (Wertheimer, 2014). Many of the people from this denomination live in densely populated enclaves, speaking Yiddish among themselves, and consciously reject much of the Western culture. They arrange their family lives, daily routines, finances, and politics in a manner entirely different from other Jewish denominations (Wertheimer, 2014). The largest following of the ultra Orthodox consist of Hasidism. Orthodox Judaism believes that both the Written and Oral Torah are of divine origin, thereby representing the ... • 5. The Issue Of Premarital Sex Cohabitation was once considered deviant and unlawful by society, as it was considered to be a proclamation of premarital sex. (Gault Sherman Draper, 2012). As attitudes toward cohabitation have become progressively acceptable, it has become increasingly prevalent in today s culture. (Gault Sherman Draper, 2012). As a result, there has been a decline in the number of couples that are choosing marriage. Research indicates the likelihood of divorce is increased when a couple lives together prior to marriage, increasing 166% if the wife had premarital sex and cohabited with another man before her husband. (Alvare, 2004). There is evidence that despite the rise in numbers of couples cohabiting, Americans desire more. [T]hey do not merely aspire to parenthood; they do not aspire to a brief or even life long cohabiting relationship. They aspire to marriage, and the intrinsic permanence of marriage...Pursuing marital happiness today, then, seems to require a greater unification in law, policy, and culture of messages about sex and marriage (Alvare, 2004). Churches and religious organizations often approach the topic of cohabitation from a judgmental standpoint, and immediately condemn the behavior. Cohabiting couples who reach out to the church for guidance or seek premarital counseling need healing and restoration, not condemnation. Consideration needs to be given to the reasons for cohabiting in order to determine the most effective approach. Marriage Preparation and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Behind Every Man of Power is a Lady Telling Them Exactly What to Do: The Differences in Character Development of Eilonwy in Lloyd Alexander s The Book of Three and Hermione in J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone The main characters in Lloyd Alexander s The Book of Three and J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone would not have completed their task without the help of their female companions, Eilonwy and Hermione, respectively. However, even Eilonwy and Hermione could not have helped their male companions without first looking inwards at their selves and readjusting their attitudes towards Taran and Harry, respectively. The girls both progress and change over the course of their adventures, and these changes are the ones that help them in the end. Without progressing and experiencing their character development, the main goal of the hero could not have been accomplished. The main character would have failed in their journey without their female friend because the main characters of both books possess certain downfalls that are only made positive by the girl s influence. Both girls character developments are dissimilar but ultimately crucial, despite not being the main characters in their respective stories. It revolves around pharmaceutical companies, government regulators, health professionals (or unprofessional ), market consumers and the medical watchdogs. Back in 2009, a study out of Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital found that 84 percent of doctors have ties to drug companies, a ten percent drop from five years earlier. But roughly two thirds of doctors still accept drug samples, while 70 percent accept food and beverage incentives from drug companies. And fourteen percent continue to accept cash payments for services. While some of these unethical practices were tapered off, not all were uprooted. Some doctors did not disclose the amount of gifts and cash which they have accepted from the drug companies. They believe that their decisions on the prescription of drugs would not be influenced by the gifts which they have accepted. In my opinion, the supporters, primarily the health professionals and representatives of the pharmaceutical giants, have disregarded the genuine health implications and the high drug costs incurred to the general public in concern. They might try fending off such moral challenges by claiming that substantial amount of advertising is necessary to boost the sales of their products. Securing more profits would also mean more money can be invested on research for better drugs. • 10. Dehumanized By Margaret Atwood In today s society, especially in the American education system, there is often an emphasis placed more on math and science, rather than the arts. Similar to Marc Slouka s central argument in Dehumanized , Atwood agrees that capitalism has led to a culture where it is almost shameful to pursue the arts and humanities. This conflict is reflected in Margaret Atwood s Oryx and Crake, where the protagonist struggles to clutch onto the seemingly intangible value of the arts amidst a capitalist society where scientific innovation is encouraged. However, even after this society s eradication of anything that cannot turn a profit, Crake s genetic modification, and the destruction of almost the entire human race, the efforts to eliminate the arts were still not effective. In this way, Atwood argues that it is not wise to attempt to eradicate the arts because the need for self expression through arts and emotions is embedded in what defines humanity. Atwood uses Oryx and Crake as a vehicle to stress the importance of valuing the arts and humanities in a capitalist society, specifically in the education system. After high school, Jimmy attends an arts and humanities school, which is clearly underfunded and looked down upon. The Martha Graham Academy, considered the laughing stock of colleges, was quite literally falling apart (185). • 11. The Impact Of Feminism In Crimminism Women have always played a significant role within a societal context to include wars and politics. However after decades of fighting for equality, society still has not found itself comfortable with adjusting to the roles and capabilities of a woman. For centuries men have been seen as the dominate species, thus emerging a fine line amongst gender roles. This process of thought is something that can often be depicted amongst criminologist, being that a bulk of society studies by scientist and theorist alike are conducted solely on males. Thus, neglecting the capabilities or undermining the involvement of women in crime. As a result of this sexist viewpoint, most individuals conduct their study groups on men and not women; however some individuals modestly include women from time to time. Furthermore, the omission of women from criminal studies often gives us a false truth to a theory. This is because we neglect women based on their physiological nature and not the physical state of the study. Nevertheless, we are unable to truly understand the impact of feminism within criminology unless we are able to examine the liberal feminist, Marxist feminist, and the radical feminists. According to Merriam Webster, feminism is defined as the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes or an organized activity on the behalf of women s rights and interest (Merriam Webster, 2017). • 12. The Importance Of The Gaia Theory Known as the Gaia Theory aptly named after the Ancient Greek primordial deity Gaia, a primal Mother Earth goddess who birthed all life in existence Lovelock argued that organisms would interact with their inorganic surroundings to form a synergistic self regulating system capable of maintaining and perpetuating the conditions necessary for life. This self regulatory system, named Gaia, results from the close coupling between organisms and their environment to create a Mother Earth that seeks a consistent physical and chemical environment optimal for nurturing life, able to resist change if necessary. For example, consider a thermostat. If a home becomes too warm or cold for comfortable living, a thermostat can be adjusted to regulate the temperature and re establish normal, comfortable heat. In the context of Gaia Theory, rather than seek to restore a pleasant temperature, the Gaia system will correct for alterations in atmospheric composition, global temperatures, ocean salinity, and other variables to re establish an environment suitable for life. Moreover, instead of a simple thermostat that begins the warming or cooling process, the natural, complex relationships between biota (living) and abiota (non living) will sense the chemical and physical shifts away from preferable levels and trigger the necessary corrective actions. The Gaia Theory is, at its simplest level, a collection of negative feedback loops involving living and nonliving components that respond ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She asserts that we are proud of ourselves when we believe in our true self. On the other hand, we might doubt ourselves all the time if we don t believe in our true self. I totally agree with her ideas. Her first idea seems to me that negative thoughts can easily change a person. For instance, I want to become a famous singer. Some say that it is so hard to define because it is an idea that emerges across and variety of disciplines. In its most basic form Postmodernism can be describes at departure from modernism and is characterized by the self conscious use of earlier styles and conventions, a mixing of different artistic styles and media, and a general distrust of theories (Oxford Dictionary, 2010). The Effects Of Harsh Coaching Of Young Athletes Essay Harsh coaching of young athletes can often steer kids away from sports all together, but if the coaches get it right, the kids learn important skills for their futures. At a young age, children need discipline in order to put them in the right direction for their futures. This discipline is found in numerous forms, and one of the most common forms is through sports. David Brooks said, The best coaches still live by a code, and they make no apology for demanding that kids live up to it. King Arthur s idea for the Knights of the Round Table soon crumbled over time because he became so entangled in preserving his idea that his optimism shielded him from the reality of what was truly going on with his kingdom, knights, and the war. By the beginning of Arthur s reign, he already started to fight wars against the opposing kingdom of, Orkney. From such a harsh past, Kipling was able to describe several topics through the use of multiple stylistic elements. The author creates a theme of the cruelty of society in his poems If , The Thousandth Man, and The White Man s Burden through the use of metaphors, little imagery, and repetition. To begin, Kipling uses a metaphor heavy writing style to effectively get his point across. In the poem If , Kipling uses metaphors to create more meaning behind the quote, If you can bear to hear the truth you ve spoken / twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools ( If Lines 13 14). An example of where Kipling could ve elaborated on his ideas with imagery is when he implied that Yours is the Earth and all that s in it ( If Line 31). Here, Kipling presents himself with an opportunity to further elaborate on the subject. While he could have described what the reader can obtain or gain from the world, Kipling keeps it open to our imagination to decide what s in it. Another example of where Kipling could ve elaborated his ideas with imagery is when he exaggerated that Nine hundred and ninety nine of em go / by your looks, or your acts, or your glory ( The Thousandth Man Lines 11 12). The lack of adjectives used by Kipling in this text prevents him from being able to describe each of these aspects. This suggests that the nine hundred and ninety nine people are blind by what you are actually doing, and only view you by your authority. One last scenario of where Kipling could ve elaborated his ideas with imagery is when he orders his sons to Go bind ... to exile / to serve [the] captives need ( The White Man s Burden Lines 3 4). It has one loop, two funnels, three turns, one five part zig zag, and one pulley leading from the end to the top, and four bells that rang and vibrated when the marble hit them. Our group divided the work by, assigning people jobs, then switching after a while. An example of that some people would score and other group members would fold, or some would build and others would test, and we took turns switching jobs. Something surprising we learned during construction is that it is very hard to make turns out of paper. Something else that went well for our group was making a bucket load of materials before we started really making the roller coaster. Another thing that went well for us was using a very strong foundation and structure before starting on the track. Also, we had to reinforce the structure when the roller coaster started wobbling a bit. The pulley was a bit of a challenge because it was hard to make and we ran out of string many times. We had to use much thicker string which held the pulley together, but created too much friction. Lastly, after we spray painted it, parts of the roller coaster started falling apart, like the pulley. Fixed the kinks in the roller coaster, and our finished product was Marbolous! In our construction our group would change how we constructed the pulley, the crooked columns, and the lack of sloping nearing the end. The main problem we had with the pulley, was the ... • 32. Pathology Of Pornography CHAPTER 3 Abjection as a Pathological Source of Violence in Pinter It is a truth, universally accepted, that man is a social animal. Man cannot live alone. This characteristic of man along with his capacity to think, communicate and achieve his goals in an astute manner separates him from other animals. Man is dependent on others from his birth until the time of his death for the fulfillment of his physical and emotional needs. The primitive men formed associations on the basis of common likes, dislikes, practices, customs, and most importantly on the basis of the inherent sexual drive to copulate with the opposite gender. These associations led to the formation of a society which as defined by R.M. Maciver is a web of social relationships (Society: An Introductory Analysis 5). Thus society does not just comprise individuals, but it also includes the multifaceted patterns of the interactions and relationships that arise among them. An important fact to be noted here is that man is not for the society, but society is for man and for a society and its members to flourish and progress, there is a need for favorable social, political and economic conditions. Any sharp deviation from these favorable conditions leads to chaos and ultimately the disorganization of the society. Since it is man who forms his associations and relationships and on a larger level the society, it is very important to understand the working of the human mind and its impact on the functioning of the ... In a quote from a letter from Christopher Columbus to King Ferdinand on July 7, 1503: Gold is most excellent; gold is treasure, and he who possesses it does all he wishes to in this world. (UnderstandingPrejudice.org) Ever since the first inklings of European expansion, explorers like Christopher Columbus had money and power of the mind, an ideology that has profoundly affected our world in the modern age, while resonating thousands of years into the past. Christopher Columbus would find patrons who shared this ideology in the form of the king and queen of Spain, who would provide the funds and ships necessary to launch Spain and Columbus into the mainstream of history argued as the most important (and possibly infamous) exploratory sail of man. In the old motto of God, Gold, and Glory, the actions that Christopher Columbus partook in the name of Spain begins to compound into an understanding that plants its roots in empire and Christianity, a continuance of perceivable inevitability since the early Romans. There are three main reasons that Columbus embarked on his journey with the support of Spain; the promise of gold and colonial expansion, an exuberant fervor on the part of Columbus during his exploration, and an increasingly competitive imperial machine controlling Europe at the time. First, it is important to address the massive desire for wealth that countries experienced in the Age of Exploration. Kingdoms for the most part stayed intertwined in the system of ...
