Compare And Contrast David And The Evolution Of Art
The evolution of art, be it paintings, sculpture, poetry or music has impacted the world towards a
more observant and intelligent society. The Renaissance was a movement that saw the
reemergence of realistic depiction of human form and nature. These artists were inspired by the
ancient Greek and Roman art and it s culture. Renaissance masterpieces incorporated accurate and
harmonious proportions of the human body and balanced, well thought out compositions relating
to the ideas of an ideal world. The Baroque movement came right after the Renaissance. It was
developed in Rome, by the Catholic church in the hope of reinventing itself. This style used a lot
of drama and grandeur to create a sense of awe. Considering our artistic heritage as a... Show more

Their beauty and perfection is one of the reasons why it s still considered a masterpiece. Their
creators have left us enough evidence of their mastery and are immortals because of their work.
The intention here is to compare the differences and similarities of ; Michelangelo Buonarroti s
and Gianlorenzo Bernini s representation of David. According to the Old Testament, (Samuel,
book 1) David was a shepherd who was among the battle lines of the Israelites and who accepted
the challenge to fight Goliath, champion of the Philistines, one on one. David came out
victorious despite the lack of protection and armoury by cutting Goliath s head off after bringing
him down from his horse with a single stone shot. David, since then is considered a symbol of
bravery and intelligence. He s also a symbol of hope and strength for the weak. He is the proof that
there are other more important virtues aside from physical strength that confide power. Due to this
important symbology many artists decided to create their own representation of how they saw this
brave figure while giving a very important message to the spectators. Some of these artists are

Polar Bear Evolution Is a Continuing Story Essay
Polar Bear Evolution is a Continuing Story
The polar bear, the largest land carnivore in North America, one of the largest animals in the
world and a favorite at zoos worldwide, has, over the years, adapted to its harsh Arctic
environment. The appropriately named ursus maritimum or sea bear usually lives between 15 and
18 years in the wild and spends most of its life on ice. It is the most recent of the eight bear species.
The first polar bear was a brown bear subspecies, with brown bear dimensions and brown bear
teeth. The polar bear evolution was rapid due to the small population and extreme pressure to
survive. Even today, the polar bear continues to evolve to better adapt to the harsh realities of Arctic
life.
Today s polar bear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Evolution of the polar bear also resulted in curved, needle sharp claws for clinging to ice and
grabbing prey. In addition, they developed large, partially webbed paws to assist with
swimming. On land, their enormous paws are useful for traveling across loose snow and the
paws provide a bigger area to spread their weight across on thin ice. Another adaptation is the
polar bear s longer neck which is needed to keep their head above water when swimming (Polar
Bear Evolution 1995). All of these characteristics, unique to the polar bear, have been part of its
evolution.
The hearing and eyesight of polar bears is quite similar to human beings, however, over the
years, the polar bear developed an extraordinary sense of smell. According to Canadian Wildlife
magazine, polar bears can smell seals at ranges up to 32 kilometers (2002). They can smell through
thick snow and even through ice. This unique ability was an important part of the evolutionary
process for survival in Arctic conditions where vegetation is severely limited and food may be
miles away.
The favorite food of the polar bear is the ringed seal, however if hungry enough, they will eat other
breeds of seals including bearded, harp, hooded and harbor. Polar bears will also eat beluga whales
and walrus (Field Guide 2002). At times, they will even eat eggs, crabs and kelp (Milius 1994). The
polar bear is strong enough to lift a beluga whale, several times its own weight, out of the water for
a meal

Transparency Reports And Reduction Of Carbon Footprint
Transparency reports and reduction of carbon footprint Transparency report has become mandatory
in Australia and United Kingdom regulated by the Depeartment for Environment Food Rural
Affairs (2013). This has catalyses many corporation, such as Facebook and Google, to produce an
environmental report that includes waste management, greenhouse and carbon emmission and
many other indicators. Global Reporting Initiative has produced a reporting framework that is
widely used today. As noted by Norman McDonald (2003) if you can t measure it, you can t
manage it , this method serves as a measureable indicator that reveals both to the public and stake

3.Environmental Sustainability Adaption After much discussion, it is concluded that
environmental sustainability would be implemented in two categories: company level and
individual project level. Company Level By 2019, Square Enix would strive to attain an ISO
14001:2015. Prior to 2019, Square Enix will start to maintain an EMS, which will be built on
top of our existing Quality Management System as suggested by Willborn (1998) seen in Figure
7: Adapting EMS based on QMS (Willborn, 1998). With the EMS, the first internal audit will
start by 4th quarter of 2017. Square Enix will release a Corporate Social Responsibility objective
in upcoming months. The time is needed for our company to address our company stand and
consult environmental experts, nevertheless, as according to Russell (2008) CSR is too big an
issue to leave to someone else to address and recommended both companies and project managers
to work harder to influence environmental sustainability as both are the front line decision makers,
consistent with Watson et al. s (2012) call. Finally, Square Enix will join the global reporting
initiative in producing an environmental transparency report from the beginning of 2017, despite it
being not mandatory in Japan. During this period, all project managers will be sent for ISO14000
training, enabling a better understanding for ISO 140000 lieu of the implementation. Project Level

shake a little. Sometimes earthquakes with low magnitudes cause a lot of harm, and a high

Comparison Of Nihilism In The West And Persia
On the other hand, the comparison between the nihilism in the West and its counterpart in Persia
shows us both of them were a reaction toward the situation of the time. In the West, nihilism was
a reaction that was created in response of great changes both in ideologies and in industraliaism.
Indeed, ideologies such as capitalism and individualism reinforced the creation and the spread of
nihilism. However, in Persia, nihilism was an imported ideology and a reaction that was created as
a result of the foreigner s invasions. While it was usually suppressed through using appropriate
literature and social movements such as Tasawwuf (the Sufism), in recent years, it found its way in
the Persian society and showed itself in the contemporary literary

The Paradox Of Sustainable Development
The Paradox of Sustainable Development in Southern Bahia
While driving through the Atlantic Forest in Bahia, everywhere one looked it was green. I could
not get over how much green there was. Unfortunately, only 7% of the original forest here remains
today (Hance). The rapid growth of the cocoa economy combined with unsustainable practices led
to this rapid decline. Agriculture still plays a major role in this region and will continue to impact
the Atlantic Forest ecosystem unless more sustainable measures are put into place. There are
numerous groups responsible for the direction of development in this region; however, a special
emphasis needs to be placed on the role of social divisions and inequality. Presently and into the
future, social classes will have an important role in the success or failure of sustainable development
in the Atlantic Forest region. To comprehend why, sustainable development must be defined and
then evaluated in the context of agriculture and land distribution.
In order to understand how social classes can affect sustainable development, the term sustainable
development must first be defined. The most widely accepted definition was created by the United
Nations World Commission on Environment and Development in 1987. This commission, also
known as the Brundtland Commission, focused on combining two concepts that previously were
seen as contradictory ideas: the environment and development. In their report, Our Common Future,
they concluded that

Cost Benefit Analysis Of Spotsylvania County Public Schools
Cost Benefit Analysis In recent years, the homeschooled population in Spotsylvania County
Public Schools (SCPS) has continued to grow. Due to state regulations, the governing body of
the division, the Spotsylvania County School Board (SCSB) developed a policy to address the
procedures and protocols necessary to guide homeschooling options in the division: Policy LBD
(2015) (See Appendix A). According to L. Binion, Guidance Director for SCPS, currently the
division has 1,036 registered and 31 pending homeschooled students in grades K 12 (personal
communication, November 13, 2015). Further, although the division has generally averaged 3 4
additional requests weekly, requests have skyrocketed to 1 2 per day for the past several weeks.
The spike is likely connected to two recent negative events associated with the division a thwarted
mass shooting plan, and a case of severe hazing at a high school, (L. Binion, personal
communication, November 19, 2015). There are financial ramifications for the school division
each time a student is opt ed out of the public school system. State funding is determined by
Average Daily Membership (ADM), which equates to $5,418 per student for Fiscal Year 2015
(VEA, 2014). Thus, the current costof registered homeschooled students in SCPS is a staggering
$5,613,048. Consequently, examining ways in which the division can address the needs of the
homeschooled population while recapturing lost funds is imperative. SCPS is currently investigating

How Did Washington s Farewell Address Dbq
At the end of his second presidential administration, after forty five years serving America,
President Washington did not want to leave without imparting some final guidance and wisdom. To
do so, Washington, working from drafts written by James Madison and Alexander Hamilton, wrote
a letter to the American people titled The Address of Gen. Washington
to the People of America, on
his Declining the Presidency of the United Statesand more popularly known as Washington s

Pro And Cons Of Virtual School
When asking the question, is the road to virtual schooling smoothly paved, the answer is no.
Virtual schools can be effective and may be a better approach for students with certain situations,
such as injury, lengthy illness, bullying, and issues with anxiety to name a few, but there needs to
be an established set of requirements put in place first. However, virtual schooling may not be
appropriate for elementary age children. In addition, low performing students benefit more when
placed in an environment where there is communication with peers, and instant scaffolding is
available when needed to help the student s understanding of the content. If we do not adapt to the
changing times, and get away from our love of tradition, we will continue to be behind in the
advancement of technology and 21st century skills. With that being said, the idea of a fully online
curriculum is not an idea to be supported. There needs to be an advancement of technology in the
school curriculum, but the jump to virtual school is not in the best interest of all students. With
any schooling options comes the pros and cons. Virtual schooling has pros and cons. Some of the
pros may be: flexible scheduling, faster completion, being able to study anytime, being able to
complete assignments from anywhere just by logging into your computer, no commute so you do
not have to worry about being late for school, zero cost because the state funds virtual schooling

Video games have become one of the most popular forms of entertainment. Video games require
players to manipulate images on a screen. In general, those that play video games experience
improvements in hand eye coordination. This is logical, considering the quick movements one
must use to complete a video game. Video games also require the player to perform mental
processes similar to those the player would perform in the real world. With this in mind, it is
possible that certain video games can improve mental processes that are exercised within the
virtual world. Studies have investigated if and how driving, action, and puzzle video games

As stated in the study video gamers outperformed non gamers in the dual task situation ts(18)

therefore. Interesting enough, there was no significant difference in single task performance
between the two groups. While these findings seem promising, there is no way to say that the
differences in dual task and task switching performances were caused by video game play.
Therefore, the investigators decided to perform another experiment. The purpose of the
experiment was to see if action video games are responsible for the difference in performance on
these tests. The researchers picked two video games for the experiment: Medal of Honor and
Tetris. Medal of Honor is an action video game and Tetris is a puzzle game. It was hypothesized
that playing Medal of Honor would create improvements in the dual task and task switching tests
while Tetris would not create an improvement. In the between subjects experiment, 32 college
students were randomly separated into three groups, 10 in the Medal of Honors group, 10 in the
Tetris group, and 12 in the control group, whom were not exposed to any video games. The
experiment consisted of a pretest, conditioning trials, and a posttest. During the pretest, all three
groups were took the dual task and the task switching tests. After the tests, the two experimental
groups practiced their respective video games in 15 one hour sessions over four weeks. The
control group did not practice either video game. Finally, the three groups retook the two tests, and

tragedy of the murder. David also keeps some of Marat s body in shadow that allows for the

Stereotypes Of Women In The Nursing Field Essay
The nursing field has had much influence from female nurses. Therefore, this has made them
the face of nursing. With that being said many times men are often overlooked in the field, but
there are additional reasons why they are overlooked. As of August 2012, men in the nursing
field made up about only seven percent of the professional workforce in the United States of
America. In the early 20th century men were allowed in nursing schools, but had to pass certain
criteria that women did not have to go through. A law was finally put into place that did not
allow for this type of discrimination to continue against men. As stated in the following, With the
passage of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, it was no longer possible for
educational programs to discriminate against any person on the basis of sex (Stokowski 2). Many
may think that the nursing field is a less masculine career because it may not be a muscle, blue
collar job, but this doesn t make the manless than what he is. Masculine professions are often
viewed as architects, farmers, businessmen, and even doctors. Nurses may face many stereotypes,

Effects Of Smoking On Children And Children
ntroduction
For many years, second hand smoke has been affecting the lungs of many people. While most of
these people can get away from it, one significant population does not always have that option.
Innocent children and infants are most affected by second hand smoke. Unfortunately, these
adolescents do not know that it is causing major health effects to their underdeveloped bodies.
Children and infants involuntary inhale smoke in their homes and on the streets where they live.
Laws regarding smoking in restaurants, on playgrounds, and on school properties have majorly
decreased the risks. However, it is not limited to those areas. There are more ways to decrease it.
Interventions that reduce second hand smoke in homes where children live and reduce smoking
before, during and after birth will decrease an infant s exposure. Providing counseling, follow up
techniques, and education to parents, or primary caretakers who smoke are two ways that can help
them quit and realize the harmful effects that smoking actually has on their children. Focusing on
the individual who is harmed in these situations is not always the answer. One must focus on the
one who is causing the effects because second hand smoke is not something that children can avoid
themselves.
Intervention Strategy 1: Reduction in second hand smoke in the home
Children spend most of their time in their homes. If parents, older siblings or the primary caretakers
smoke in the house it increases the chance of them

the rings to each other (Pandey, K., Rizvi, S, 2009). The rings are divided into four classes. The
four main classes are phenolic acids, flavonoids, stilbenes and lignas (Pandey, K., Rizvi, S, 2009).
Phenolic acids have two divided classes, which are derivatives of benzoic acid and cinnamic acid
(Pandey, K., Rizvi, S, 2009). In the hydroxycinnamic acids is where it consumes the caffeine
(Pandey, K., Rizvi, S, 2009). Flavonoids have a primary structure that contains two aromatic rings
which are connected to three carbon atoms that forms from oxygenated heterocycle (Pandey, K.,
Rizvi, S, 2009). They are responsible for producing the color in leaves and flowers (Pandey, K.,
Rizvi, S, 2009). Stilbenes have two phenyl moieties that are attached to two carbon methylene
bridge (Pandey, K., Rizvi, S, 2009). They act as antifungal and are responsible to help infection and
cuts. Ligands chemical compound have a 2,3 dibenzyl butane structure, and shapes into a

Summary Of Who Moved My Cheese
Throughout this paper I will be giving a synopsis for a book entitled Who Moved My Cheese, as
well as answering questions that relate to the story. The story is a parable which stresses the
importance of being able to adapt to change. The story includes four main characters: two mice,
Sniffy and Scurry, and two little people, Hem and Haw. All four characters inhabit a maze, and
spend their time seeking out cheese. The story peaks as both the mice and humans stumble upon a
vast amount cheese at Cheese Station C. After finding the cheese the two humans become content
with their find, and stop searching for more. In contrast the mice continue their search for cheese.
The humans begin to become use to the vast amount of cheese, thus they begin a pattern of
consuming the cheese without resupplying it. Eventually the cheese diminishes until there is none
left. This slow decline of cheese is no surprise to the mice. Through observation during the period
where both humans and mice consume the cheese, the mice mentally prepare themselves for the
depletion of cheese. The mice then leave Cheese Station C to search for more cheese. Hem and
Haw react differently to being void of cheese once again. When they arrive to Cheese Station C
they are shocked to find out they do not have any more cheese. Hem becomes angry and proposes
that someone has moved their cheese. After returning next day, it becomes confirmed to Hem and
Haw that the cheese is gone. Haw proposes that they should

Persuasive Essay On Fracking
For the past six weeks, I have been doing research about fracking and it s effects on the community
and nature. I have spent hours researching and doing experiments to come to a conclusion. I would
like to share my findings with you to make sure this county is informed about the process, as I
know they might not necessarily be. I believe that Fracking should not continue in Ohio. Although
it brings jobs to the country, and bring us domestic fuel, it is becoming a health hazard to bio life,
which is very important.
Fracking (formal name hydraulic fracturing), is the process of which million of gallons of water
are pumped a mile underground to get methane out of pockets in the shale. Fracking fluid is a
mixture of chemicals and water pumped underground through supposedly safe wells. The oil
companies actually doing the fracking say that the wells are completely safe. However, only 50%
of the fracking fluid is brought out of the wells. The rest of it is left underground and never
retrieved. This can contaminate the ground we farm on an the water we drink.. Fracking affects
everyone around the wells, though it may be indirectly. It can affect someone by giving them
millions of dollars for land or contaminating their drinking water. Some environmentalists believe
that this can contaminate water in the aquifer, a mile above the shale.
The composition of fracking fluid has not been released to the public. No one knows what is in the
fluid, but people have predicted. It is thought

Neuroscience Of The Nervous System
Vigen Karchyan
Neuroscience Neuroscience, commonly referred to as Neural Science, is the study of the way the
nervous system develops, how it is structured and the functions of it. Scientists put emphasis on the
brain and the impact it has on behavior and cognitive functions. These scientists approach a closer
look on the reactions the nervous system has when humans have neurological, psychiatric and
neurodevelopmental disorders. The entire concept of neuroscience is addressed as a subdivision of
biology. It is applied to chemistry, cognitive science, engineering, mathematics, linguistics and
more. Scientists say that neuroscience is identical as neurobiology but there is a difference between
the two conceptions. Neurobiology focuses mainly on the biology of the nervous system and
neuroscience emphasizes on any portion of the nervous system. Neuroscientists have various fields
of study that include cellular, functional, computational and medical aspects of the nervous system.
The history of neuroscience dates back and the Ancient Egyptians believed that intelligence rooted
from the heart. Throughout the process of mummification, they detached the brain but left the heart
inside of the body. Herodotus, a Greek historian that lived up until 425BC, claimed the most
perfect practice is to extract as much of the brain as possible with an iron hook, and what the hook
cannot reach is mixed with drugs. There were scripts focused on the brain that were first found in
1700BC in

Collective Bargaining and Labour Market Outcomes for Canadian Working Women
I INTRODUCTION: UNIONS, LOW PAY, AND EARNINGS INEQUALITY
The major purposes of this paper are, first, to examine the impacts of collective bargaining on
labour market outcomes for women workers in Canada, specifically with respect to pay, benefits
coverage, the incidence of low pay and the extent of earnings inequality, and, second, to suggest
ways in which positive impacts could be extended via the expansion of collective bargaining
coverage. This part of the paper briefly reviews the literature on the impacts of collective
bargaining on earnings, low pay, and earnings inequality, and Part II provides some background
description of the labour market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To indicate the extremes, the earnings gap between the top and bottom deciles of women earners
in Canada is double that in Sweden (i.e. the ratio between the upper limit of D9 and the bottom
limit of D2 is 3.7 compared to 1.8), and the incidence of low pay among full time women workers
(defined as earning below two thirds of the economy wide median wage) is 34.3% in Canada
compared to just 8.4% in Sweden. OECD countries such as Canada and Sweden are exposed to
broadly comparable forces of structural change, such as exposure to international trade and
investment flows and to rapid technological change, but differ significantly in terms of labour
market institutions. This suggests that institutions such as collective bargaining can have
significant impacts on the quality of jobs as well as on the level of inequality between wage earners.
As the OECD notes, a major explanation for large differences between countries is labour market
institutions: different institutional settings with regard to wage bargaining, legal minimum wages
and the generosity of unemployment and other related benefits appear to account for some of the
wide variation across countries in the over all incidence of low pay. More specifically, it was
established in the OECD analysis that there is a high and negative correlation between collective
bargaining coverage and the incidence of low pay. Similarly, a major set of Canada U.S.
comparative studies has showed that labour

Mark Twain And Maxine Hong Kingston
In the mid 19th century, America was viewed as a hotspot for freedom and wealth. When the
noise of the gold rush flooded the world, immigrants started to see America more appetizing than
ever. The Chinese saw America as a place to have a fresh start and as a place of refuge because of
it s generosity, so they immigrated to the west in great numbers. There was a large Chinese
population in Virginia and all along the Pacific coast. Writers Mark Twain and Maxine Hong
Kingston both wrote in great detail about the Chinese Immigrants. They went into detail about the
immigrants and how they came over and why. Although Twain and Kingston both wrote about the
immigrants in a positive light, Twain was sympathetic of the immigrants and Kingston focused
more on their image and her ancestors. Mark Twain and Maxine Hong Kingston are both
influential writers when it comes to the history of the Chinese Immigrants. Bother of them showed
a great amount of detail on their journey to America. Mark Twain actually pities the friendless
Mongol, there were many superficial stereotypes of the Chinese immigrants (Ou 33). Twain
ridicules the American s racist attitudes against the Chinese. For example, in Roughing It, he
wrote, In every little cooped up, dingy cavern of a hut, faint with the odor of burning Josh lights
and with nothing to see the gloom by save the sickly, guttering tallow candle, were two or three

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Nop Phone Service

Chapter 8
Advantages
VoIP phone service providers oer many advantages to the residential and small oce/home oce user.
If you have a high speed internet connection then choosing a VoIP phone service might be right for
you.
1. Low Cost :
This technology leads to greater nancial savings. This happens because there exists only one
network carrying the voice and video provided by only one supplier. If you have a broad band
Internet connection (DSL or cable), you can make PCtoPC phone calls anywhere in the world
for free. If you wish to make a PC to phone connection, there s usually a charge for this but
probably much cheaper than your regular phone service. You can pay as you go or you can sign up
with a VOIP service provider and pay a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Low Taxes :
Since the calls are being carried over the Internet, governments have not heavily taxed VoIP phone
services. Compare that to your local telephone bill (go ahead and take a close look) and you will see
you are spending quite a bit on taxes each month. Therefore, choosing a
VoIP provider could add up to signicant savings for you and your family.
3. Portability :
One important concept to understand about VoIP is that unlike its forefathers (lets call them
PSTN for now), it is not distance or location dependent. As far as VoIP is concerned, you could
be calling your supplier 1,000 miles away in Indonesia or calling your business partner on the
other end of town, and it doesnt make any di erence at all, in terms of connectivity and cost. You
can make and receive phone calls wherever there is a broadband connection simply by signing in
to your VoIP account. This makes VoIP as convenient as email if you are traveling, simply pack a
headset or Internet phone and you can talk to your family or business associates for almost nothing.
4. No extra cables, no extra cost :
A VoIP phone number, unlike your regular phone number, is completely portable. Most commonly
referred to as a virtual number, you can take it with you anywhere you go.

Music Vs. Art Education
Much too often in America today, modern music and art programs in schools are perceived to many
as extracurricular activities rather than important subjects that are vital to a student s learning and
skill development. The truth of the matter is that encouraging music and art education in public
schools has a much larger impact on student s grades, academic performance, and the economy than
the majority people realize. Within the next year city schoolbudgets will be dropping by twenty five
percent, and despite the fact that music and art programs have been showing a dramatic
contribution to student s learning, this substantial drop in funding for the programs will lead to no
dedicated money for art or music programs (Mezzacappa). There is... Show more content on

Music and art are clearly not two subjects that schools today can afford to cut off funding for
based on this evidence. Music and art programs are responsible for increasing school attendance,
which can lead to being one of the most important things in a student s academic success in school.
Students have to attend school and be present in order to attain the information from their classes
and teachers if they wish to succeed. Better attendance means more students are in class, which
means more students are getting the information they need to excel from their teachers, which
ultimately means better grades and test scores for schools. As of today, arts are defined as core
subjects in only twenty six states in America (Mandel). If only twenty six states are treating art
education as a core subject, that means that twenty four states are currently neglecting art programs
and not considering them important to their student s education. If more states are educated on the
importance of art programs for young students, and the arts are defined as core subjects nationally,
then there will be a noticeable increase in academic achievement across the nation. Art programs
have been proven to increase the academic performance of student in schools, and until these
twenty four states treat art as a core subject, their students will continue to

The Importance Of Ethical Business Is Not New
The importance of ethical business is not new. Every long term successful business has clearly
understood the need for ethical business practices. There are lessons to be learned, both positive
and negative, from businesses around the world. CEOs must work hard to find a balance between
profits and public image by learning from history, understanding the evolution of business ethics,
and understanding the social responsibility of businesses.
CEOs in the business world today are in a precarious position. They are accountable to
shareholders to keep profits high while avoiding any scandal or implication of shady dealings.
CEOs are also accountable to stakeholders to ensure business practices are acceptable for all
parties. Stakeholders are those that are required to keep an organization functioning, such as
employees and customers. It is the responsibility of top leadership to ensure the success or failure
of the organization is not solely judged by profit margins. Leadership must provide stakeholders
with a road map for the organization. Individual and organizational character is strengthened if the
mission of an organization is clear, if workers have maximum opportunity for growth, and if the
larger social conditions allow corporations to thrive without resorting to underhanded tactics (Terris,
2005). If an organization puts employees and customers ahead of shareholders, the organization can
be more successful in the long run. Employees that feel wanted and

Gender Misrepresentation In The Media
Media representations include the ways in which the media portrays particular groups. When
gender is viewed through the lens of media representations, the disparity between male and female
gender portrayal is evident. Media, technology, and social media are also used to misrepresent and
to underrepresent genderidentity. To understand the inequality of gender representation as
examined through the media today, one must look at the history of the relationship between the
forms of mass communication and their effect on gender perception. One must also recognize the
current state of gender inequality in media, including patterns that demonstrate a long history of
biased portrayals of gender in today s society.
Women continue to be underrepresented on television and in other media forms compared with
men on television and the actual population. The underrepresentation of female characters is
particularly profound in drama and action movies and somewhat less so in situation comedies. A
recent analysis of music videos from multiple music television networks found three times as many
males as females. Within film rather than television, there was a study conducted that proved that
the content analysis of popular G rated titles and found a 3 1 ratio in favor of males. This is
absolutely absurd and this is exactly why I wanted to focus my essay on gender and the media, but
particularly the misrepresentation of women in the media.

Why Do Businesses Manage Data And Use Graphics
Lesson 10 Essay Why do businesses manage data and use graphics to reveal their overall
performance standings, and what type of graphics, tables, or charts should one use to share
communicating quantitative information to their business customers that s not only effective; but
easy to understand? Businesses manage data in order to review, and share information received
by others; which are displayed by usage of certain graphs that indicates ones performance levels
in certain areas. However, before you can interpret data, the elements must be classified,
summarized, and condensed into a manageable size; while the condensed information is
meaningful and can be used to answer your research questions (Lehman, Dufrene, Walker, 2014,
p. 169). The purpose for using these type of elements is to display your findings in a way that
others can relate to, by simply compiling all the data into a readable analysis technique through the
usage of a computer. However, it takes careful planning as to what graphics to use, depending on
what results you and the customers are currently searching for. That s why there are certain steps to
follow when gathering the necessary information before selecting the right format to put into
existence for others to view. The first step is to gather the information from the survey, then input it
into the computer system; so it can be categorized by importance. This system allows it to be

The Comparison Of Eros And Energy By William Blake
Now that the definitions of Eros and Energy have been clarified, its essential to explore the
apparent similarities that both terms hold. Both Eros and Energy associate with this creative
energy that exist in the elaborate confines of our mental facilities and both harbor opposing force
that suppresses them to which Freud and Blake find this suppression of desire to be harmful for
the individual. From direct quotation, it is proven that libido is a manifestation of the power of
Eros (Freud 109). As previously mentioned, libido then is the source of desire that becomes this
creative energy though sublimation and this powers the creative pursuits that develop civilization.
This mirror s William Blakes Energy since both contain a similar source of desire. Blake s view
on Energy being a desire comes out when he describes Energy to be restrained, it by degrees
becomes passive, till it is only a shadow of Desire (Blake 5). From this Blake admits that Energy
in a sense a form of desire that every individual has. Blake doesn t stop at this as he sees the
importance of this desire to be executed. This is realized thought his Proverbs of Hell, where he
reveals, Sooner murder an infant in its cradle than nurse unacted desires (Blake 10). Blake is
conveying the significance of acting on desires and this showcases the extent of his belief.
Considering Blake has compared unacted desires to the murder of an infant. Correlating the value

Confucius is the founder of Confucianism. The name Confucius is the Latin name for Kong Qiu

SYMBOLS A symbol that is used or associated with the religion of Confucianismis the yin yang.
Yin yang are the two countervailing forces of the universe, each necessary for balance yet each
constantly changing in power. Yin refers to any thing that is negative, yang refers to anything that
is positive. The irony is that these two things tell people everything they know, it is impossible for
the both not to be in coexistence with each other. This is saying that life attracts opposites, such as:
good and evil, light and darkness, and war and peace. It shows the two opposites, yin and yang,
eternally pursuing each other in a harmonious way. It is true they are opposites, but there is no
conflict, there is only balance.
This drawing symbolizes the way life should be lived. No one can hope for all pleasure and no
pain, or all life and no death, or all happiness and no waiting, or all agreement and no
disagreement. This means that no one s life can be set to perfection, there is always room for
adjustments. If harmonious interplay between yang and yin is the

Ocean Currents Are Affected By Global Warming
The answer is yes. During this quarter we learned a lot about global warming and its disturbing
effects on ocean and climate. Ocean currents that are caused by thermohaline circulation are
affected by global warming due to glacial melting in Antarctica and Greenland which cause
abundant freshwater input into thermohaline circulation and thus mixing of freshwater with saline
water causes the current to slow down and even possibly to shut down, for example, ocean current
such as Gulf Stream. Likewise, global warmingcauses tidal range change due to sea level rise,
which is caused by the same factor of glacial melting. NOAA suggests that tidal datums must be
updated at least every 20 25 years due to global sea level rise. According to Doeke

Therefore, most nutrients are used to produce ATP such as carbohydrates, fat and the others. So,

History Of Latin American Underdevelopment By J. Samuel...
Modernization and Dependency: Alternative Perspectives in the Study of Latin American
Underdevelopment by J. Samuel Valenzuela and Arturo Valenzuela broadly compares and analyzes
modernization and the dependency approach (1978, p.536) within the context of underdevelopment
in Latin America.
Valenzuela and Valenzuela first begin by discussing the modernization perspective, its assumptions
and how this perspective relates to Latin America underdevelopment (1978, p.537). Valenzuela and
Valenzuela determined that modernization literature assumes that for a society to modernize it
must reject traditional values and patterns. Essentially, it is the internal traditional practises that
need to be dismantled for modernization to take place. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Development and underdevelopment are linked and condition each other mutually resulting in a
divided world that consists of industrial central countries and underdeveloped peripheral countries
(Valenzuela and Valenzuela, 1978, p.544), with the periphery often being constrained by its role in
the global capitalist system (Valenzuela and Valenzuela, 1978, p.544).
The level of analysis differs greatly between the modernization approach and dependency approach,
where modernization focuses predominantly on the behaviours, beliefs and traditions of
individuals, the dependency approach focuses on elements outside the individual unit such as
international trade, class alliances and conflict (Valenzuela and Valenzuela, 1978, p.550). Where the
modernization approach focuses on the microsocial, the dependency approach focuses on the
macrosocial (Valenzuela and Valenzuela, 1978, p.550).
Valenzuela and Valenzuela have determined that the dependency approach has a fundamental
advantage compared to modernization theory (1978, p.552), dependency perspective is much more
open to drawing from a broader body of evidence and range of phenomena, such as the relationship
between central countries and the periphery , trade and class alliances. Modernization theory, which
operates on a simple conceptual framework and a reductionist approach , such as the traditional
modern dichotomy (Valenzuela and Valenzuela, 1978, p.552),

The Theory Of Egoism And Altruism
In this paper I will argue that selecting only one form of egoism is not enough to explain human
motives and that it takes a mix of several theories to explain it, specifically a mix of ethical egoism
and altruism, with the side note that intent is not important in this situation. The mix is important,
as any one theory seemingly fails to encapsulate the scope of human interactions. Pure ethical
egoism, the idea that each person should only try to help themselves, makes people out to be too
greedy and seemingly unwilling to help anyone at any point in their lives. Pure altruism, the idea
that people should use their abilities and advantages to exclusively help others, makes people too
willing to sacrifice what they have for someone else. If people were completely altruistic nothing
would ever be accomplished and eventually those advantages would become erased as people stop
working to better themselves. I also believe that the intent of the action is not important so the
moralityof the action should be directly tied to the outcome, not the thought process of the person
doing the action. All of these ideas will be explained in more detail later in the paper. This paper
will look at each of these three factors individually, show why they are insufficient for explaining
human motives on their own and then explain how they can all work in conjunction to better
explain human motives. This paper will then go on to show how someone might disagree with this
thesis by providing some

Slapstick is a type of comedy that involves physical exaggeration which exceeds the boundaries
of normal physical comedy, as quoted from the free encyclopedia. This is evident where tom gets

and also is something most definitely you would not see in a normal day it goes beyond physical

Tom and jerry is a successful tv show for the reason of the random arrangements and stuff that
you would never see this day, this makes it different and not mainstream. But to include this in

The Mental Health Treatment Of Australia
In the Mental Health treatment we can distinguish two different approaches to patient treatment,
this is known as models of treatment, firstly we have a medical model, and secondary we a using
person recovery model.
To understanding of recovery in Australia, we have to acknowledge that is heavily influenced by
recovery research and literature from the USA, Canada and New Zealand
It is suggested that the term recovery has been adopted in Australia from the late 1980s (Lakeman,
2004, p.212; McGrath et al., 2007). It has become popular in mental health discourse and influences
policy directives and service delivery initiatives (Meehan et al., 2007; Rickwood, 2004; Slade et al.,
2008).
Medical model in the mental health mostly concentrates on the treatment of the physiological
aspect of illness, this model is used at the inpatients admissions, by psychiatrist overall in the
clinical /medical settings.
There are many definitions of term Medical Model many of them suggested that it is a
scientifically proven process, concentrates on the treatment of the symptoms, is not client centred,
and medical professionals are in charge of making and presiding with consumer treatment plan ,
some professionals also describe the medical model as the Western approach to illness.
When we talking about mental health recovery we will take under consideration not only medical
model but also the effect of psychotherapy, and person centred model of recovery.
Recovery in the mental health is

Fallen Art Short Film Themes
This short film criticizes war by showing us that war is bad in general, and violence is senseless.
Fallen Art who was directed by Tomasz Baginski showed three themes in his short film setting
points on why war is bad through three different characters. His first theme is the man in a higher
power uniform that s kicking the soldiers off the ladder who represents power in the military.
Then the old guy in a lab coat taking the pictures, represents the value of military life by taking
pictures of the soldiers once they land from the fall. Lastly the young fat guy towards the end of the
filmrepresents waras entertainment by creating art through the pictures given to him by the old guy.
I believe the argument the director is trying to make through his film is that violence is senseless,
and we should take in consideration those who are willing to go into war knowing the risks, and
the endings it can lead to. We should not only worry about the lives that can be taken during the
war, but as well as the way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We use all these different kinds of media to consume war as entertainment, and not worry about
those lives at stake. We has normal citizens don t know what it s actually like
being in a war zone knowing that your life is on the line, and that s what Baginski is trying to make
through the film.
In my opinion I agree with Baginski and the purpose of his short film, because we should value
those who are willing to put their lives on the line for our nation. We should be more aware, and
compassionate to those brave people. Not always are we going to be able to rely on the thought
of knowing there s always going to be more people who will volunteer. We should keep in mind
our veterans have been, and have seen different and unusual things, and their job wasn t as
normal as any kind of job. Their job isn t a job, it s more of beyond the call of

Alfred Hitchcock Film Analysis
I ve gone on the record as saying I like Alfred Hitchcock s films, though I only really love one so
far ( Psycho ). My admiration for Hitchcock, along with the number of his films I love, increased
after we watched his beloved Vertigo in my class. It may have barely surpassed Psycho as my
favorite Hitchcock film. This film stars James Stewart as John Scottie Ferguson, a San
Francisco detective forced to quit the force after a traumatizing event causes him to develop
acrophobia. He soon takes up a case as a sort of private eye, however, when an old acquaintance
from college asks him to investigate the strange habits of his wife (Kim Novak). Stewart
obliges, with dire consequences. One of the surprises in this film, for me, was Stewart as
Scottie, who performed excellently. I like Jimmy Stewart, but I ve never been as enamored with
him as some movie buffs. That has changed some, as I think this is his best performance I ve
seen. He makes you care for his character and believe his motivations and feelings for the first
portion of the movie. He struggles a bit in the emotional scenes, but he still succeeds in evoking
our sympathy. By the end of the film, his performance takes a remarkable turn and he becomes
genuinely disturbing. It s brilliant. Kim Novak is also great as Madeleine Elster, the wife Stewart
s character follows. She has a creepy, disturbing quality about her during that first part of the movie
that works quite well. Later, her performance takes a turn,

Women s Foreign And Domestic Policies Play
What role did China s foreign and domestic policies play in the 1899 Boxer Rebellion? The Boxer
Rebellion, also known as the Boxer Uprising, was a movement created by nationalist Chinese men
in response to what they perceived to be the westernization of their country by European forces and
influences ( Boxer Rebellion). Most of the people involved were very young men who had been
inducted into a society known as the Yihequan, or Society of Righteous and Harmonious Fists, to
fight against foreign influences that were making their way into the culture that many Chinese
people loved and wanted to protect (Harrison). The Yihequan felt that their enemies were not only
the European troops and missionaries that had made their way into China, but also the Chinese
people who had welcomed the foreigners and converted to Christianity in response to European
missionaries (Tiedemann). They were not only angered at the perceived erasure of their traditional
culture, but China had been going through a host of problems at the time, including severe
droughts leading to widespread food shortages, and many of the Yihequan chose to blame this on
the Christian influences in China. This was due to the belief in traditional Chinese culture that the
only way to end drought was to pray to the gods to end it. The intense rituals that the villagers
used to beg their gods to end drought was believed to need the sincere participation of the entire
village in order to work. The Catholic Chinese did not

Who Is D Amville In Atheist s Tragedy
D Amville, the main antagonist in the tragedy The Atheist s Tragedy by Cyril Tourneur, ponders
the meaning of life throughout the play. After a climactic conversation with Borachio, D
Amville makes his stance on life very clear: life is limited, life is short, and the only way to
defeat the forces of nature and to extend life is through a healthy, wealthy, offspring. This idea
alone becomes the motive for many of D Amville s decisions: it is because of this concept that he
kills his brother, Montferrers; it is because of this ideology that he is determined to marry off his
son, and when that plot fails, this ideology is the main motivation for his attempted rape of
Castabella. In the beginning of the play, everything is going according to D Amville s... Show more

Every time D Amville speaks in verse, he follows the rhythmic patterns of iambic pentameter. As
he discusses the importance of his children to his life, asserting that There s my eternity...[which
will] add to life as much of happiness , D Amville follows the rules of iambic pentameter without
flaw (Tourneur, 254, 1.1.124 127). For example, in the lines And IN my REAson DWELLS the
PROvidENCE/to ADD to LIFE as MUCH of HAppiNESS , we see that there are five pairs of
stressed syllable and five pairs of unstressed syllables in each of these lines. Moreover, these
lines, just like many others in this section, correctly follow the unstressed, stressed pattern. He
does not waver, or mistakenly add or remove a syllable; rather he is entirely confident in his
speech. Throughout all of his lines, in this passage, his meter is fixed, and it is stable. During
the first few pages of the play, whenever D Amville speaks, he continues to use the same manner
in his speech. Just as he is unwavering in his speech, just as he is firm in his words, he is also
firm in the beliefs he expresses in these lines. He stresses that IN his reason, the solution lies. He
also stresses the word DWELLS, which also emphasizes his idea that reason is truly where he
believes happiness and providence reside. His speech is, therefore, a reflection of his attitude; just

An Alpine Divorce
The atmosphere of the story is very intense. The atmosphere of the story is first set up by
language the narrator uses describing John Bodman, marriage ,and the world around him(the
narrator). In some natures there are no half tones , the mathematical chances are all such a
meeting, and this is the reason that of divorce courts exist. , Marriage at best is a compromise .
These quotes are very intense to hear. The narrator is a person who deals in absolutes, calculates
even the most menial things in life, he besmirches the sanctity of marriage and takes marriage
for granted. These are things that a cold, calculating, cynical person would say. The intense
atmosphere of the story is also portrayed through the setting of the story, the Swiss Alps. The
Alps are the one of the highest mountain ranges in the world. The Alps are also considered a
very cold place due to snow and high winds and isolated place since most people only stay and
lounge there, but few trek the Alps. A high, cold, isolated place is a very dangerous place to be
and if we stay there, it would be considered a high stakes, intense situation since hazards are left and
right such as high winds. Proven by setting and diction, An Alpine Divorce has an atmosphere....

characterization of John Bodman s negative perspective of marriage. This is what we the reader

Comparing Beowulf And The Invincible Superman
Hero, is a word that can be distinguished so in many ways. When people think of a hero they
imagine the military, comic book characters, or someone who has greatly affected their life. While
reading Beowulf people can realize why he was a hero to the Geats and Danes. From the beginning
of the epic Beowulfshows the characteristics of generosity, loyalty, and bravery representing all the
qualifications of a heroduring the 6th century. Although originally untitled, it was later named after
the Scandinavian hero Beowulf, whose exploits and character offer its connecting theme ,
(Beowulf Encyclopedia Britannica) 1,500 years later anyone who has heard this epic still views

he is invincible indestructible from any and everything. Another huge difference between the two
heroes is Beowulf is a human from earth. While Superman is inhuman and was exiled from the
planet Krypton. After the battle with Grendel Beowulf must swim to the bottom of a murky lake
to take the life of the one who took his men s lives, Grendel s Mother. Similarly, Superman must
travel to other planets and other galaxies to help those in need of him. As a child, Superman is
sent away from the planet of Krypton, to the town of Smallville,Kansas where he then realizes all
his supernatural powers. Superman defends Metropolis against disaster but also flies into outer

What Role Do Probiotics Play In The Immune System
To be able to understand how probiotics play a role in the immune system, we must first be able to
recognize how it works. The immune system is a bodily function that protects the body from
foreign cells and tissues (Merriam Webster, 2017). The main organs that correspond with the
immune systems are the tonsils, lymph nodes, thymus, bone marrow, and spleen (Thompson, G.,
2015). The thymus and bone marrow are primary lymphatic structures that are involved in the
formation and maturation of lymphocytes. The tonsils, lymph nodes, and spleen are all secondary
structures that house both lymphocytes and other immune cells after their formation. (BIOLOGY

Probiotics help keep a balance between microorganisms in the intestine. They are especially
beneficial to people who have digestive problems. The GI tract acts as a barrier against food and
microorganism that may have entered the body. The response of probiotics or other
microorganisms in the gastrointestinal tract depends on the development of the microflora. Most of
the effects we see from probiotics are brought about through immune regulation and cytokines.
Probiotics can be used to normalize gut mucosal dysfunction, decrease inflammation, and decrease
sensitive reactions (CITE). Probiotics also keep the gut healthy; thus, ensuring the immune system
functions well. Epithelial intestinal tissue s main role is protecting the intestines from harmful
microbes and is dependent upon gut flora. In order for new epithelial lining to be made, adequate
amounts of gut flora must be available for the body to access. Therefore, maintaining the proper
balance of epithelial tissue is reliant on probiotics since probiotics increase the lifespan of the tissue
cells. Probiotics can also enhance the body s innate immunity, this helps lessen the amount of
inflammation in the GI tract

Justice Is The Standard Of True Justice
Through the issue of labor in Bangladesh, we can easily extract a point of view, what is fairness
and justice. In my opinion, according to Rawls s theory of justice, the standard of true justice, it s
hard to apply to the real world. We cannot rule out the influence of the real factors. Therefore, it is
more appropriate and useful to use Rawls justiceas a guideline, although utterly extreme, ignoring
the subject matter of man, but more meaningful. An effective solution to the issue of labor rights
in Bangladesh, the current situation, in a way that is conducive to the majority of ordinary
people in Bangladesh, by this foundation, combined with Rawls more fair justice as a specific
guidance, which can give a Relative justice. Rawls in the justice theory points out that justice is
the primary purpose of the social system. And a theory of justice called fair justice. By proposing
the veil of ignorance, which is considered that people give real justice in the absence of any value
proposition, therefore putting forward two principles of justice. The first is that everyone has the
equal right to enjoy the broadest and equitable system of fundamental freedoms that is compatible
with a similar system of liberty enjoyed by others. Social and economic inequalities should be
arranged to bring them in the best interests of the most disadvantaged. The principle of saving in
line with justice, and the openness and transparency of office to all under conditions of fair and
equal

Synopsis Of The King Of The Flies
It s another one of Aber Hael s main attractions. People come from all over for our wares, but
especially the seafood. I tell you, these people can fry, pickle, and salt anything.
Carlton removed Audra s arm from this elbow and took her hand instead, threading his fingers
between hers. It ll be easier for us to move along this way.
The king pointed out his knights skirting the edge of the crowds. As you can see, I make sure lots
of knights are available on market day to help keep the peace. It s usually calm, but in the warmer
weather when people have too much to drink, things can get rowdy. That s where our men come in.
Audra and Carlton walked from stall to stall and examined the wares without much fanfare. Audra
particularly liked the small charms and sun catchers offered at one stall. She admired a sun
catcher of a beautifully detailed red dragon flying above the clouds over a rushing river, Hael
River, she assumed.
A robust, white haired woman, the stall s merchant, approached. That s one of my favorites. Isn t
that beautiful?
Yes, I love it. Do you make these? Audra turned the sun catcher that hung from a hook so it would
better reflect the light.
I m proud to say the work s all mine. Can I interest you In that instant, Carlton turned around and
the old woman clearly recognized him right away and could not speak. She curtseyed low
immediately.

One way to assess pain behaviours is to observe them in a clinical setting (although pain is also
assessed in a natural setting as the patient goes about his or her everyday activities). Keefe and
Williams (1992) have identified five elements that need to be considered when preparing to assess
any form of behaviour through this type of observation.
A rationale for observation: it is important for clinicians to know why they are observing pain
behaviours. One reason is to identify problem behaviours that the patient may be reluctant to report,
such as pain when swallowing, so that treatment can be given. Another is to monitor the progress of
a course of treatment.
A method for sampling pain behaviour techniques for sampling and recording behaviour include
continuous observation, measuring duration (how long the patient takes to complete a task),
frequency counts (the number of times a target behaviour occurs) and time sampling (for example,
observing the patient for five minutes every hour).
Definitions of the behaviour: observers need to be completely clear as to what behaviours they are
looking for.
Observer training: in most clinical situations, there will be different observers at different times and
it is important that they are consistent.
Reliability and validity: the most useful

My Mother Speech
My Mother I ve been taught many things by many people in my life, but I believe that the
person who has taught me the most is my mother. My mother has taught me several important
things I will need to know right now as well as when I am older, such as, how to react to
situations, things about the Bible, and how to handle things that involve boys. In the many
times my mother has told me how to react to situations, I haven t always listened, and in the end,
Mom is ALWAYS right. One time I didn t listen to my mother s advice was when I was in
elementary school. A little boy was picking on me and I really didn t like it. I told Momma and
Daddy about it and their responses were completely different. Momma told me to ignore him
and pray for him, but Daddy told me to punch him in the nose. All I m going to say is, I ended up
in the principals office wishing I had taken my mother s advice. Now, enough with all the bad
stuff, let me tell you about a time I actually did listen to my mom. My best friend Laura and I
were having a disagreement on the way we believe. I believe that when you sin, that means
doing something that goes against the Bible, you must ask for forgiveness or you are once
again a sinner. Laura, however, did not believe that. She told me that it was stupid of me to ask
the Lord to forgive me because once I am saved, I am saved forever and I can sin all I want. I told
her otherwise, that caused a great debate between us. I told my mom about this problem and she
told me to say this, Laura, if I am wrong and you are right, what harm will it do for me to ask for
forgiveness? I ll go to heaven either way. But if you are wrong and I am right, you re in for a
whole lot of trouble when it comes time for Jesus to come back. I said that to Laura and so far
the topic has only come up a few times and we are still best friends, all thanks to my mother s
great advice. Now that we re on the topic of beliefs I m going to tell you about some of the things
my mother has taught me about The Bible. I have been in church all my life, so has my mother
and father. My father is a deacon in our church and

The Renaissance was a movement that saw the reemergence of realistic depiction of human form and nature. These artists were inspired by the ancient Greek and Roman art and it s culture. Renaissance masterpieces incorporated accurate and harmonious proportions of the human body and balanced, well thought out compositions relating to the ideas of an ideal world. The Baroque movement came right after the Renaissance. It was developed in Rome, by the Catholic church in the hope of reinventing itself. This style used a lot of drama and grandeur to create a sense of awe. Considering our artistic heritage as a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their beauty and perfection is one of the reasons why it s still considered a masterpiece. Their creators have left us enough evidence of their mastery and are immortals because of their work. The intention here is to compare the differences and similarities of ; Michelangelo Buonarroti s and Gianlorenzo Bernini s representation of David. According to the Old Testament, (Samuel, book 1) David was a shepherd who was among the battle lines of the Israelites and who accepted the challenge to fight Goliath, champion of the Philistines, one on one. David came out victorious despite the lack of protection and armoury by cutting Goliath s head off after bringing him down from his horse with a single stone shot. David, since then is considered a symbol of bravery and intelligence. He s also a symbol of hope and strength for the weak. He is the proof that there are other more important virtues aside from physical strength that confide power. Due to this important symbology many artists decided to create their own representation of how they saw this brave figure while giving a very important message to the spectators. Some of these artists are Donatello, Ghiberti Verrocchio, Michelangelo and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Polar Bear Evolution Is a Continuing Story Essay Polar Bear Evolution is a Continuing Story The polar bear, the largest land carnivore in North America, one of the largest animals in the world and a favorite at zoos worldwide, has, over the years, adapted to its harsh Arctic environment. The appropriately named ursus maritimum or sea bear usually lives between 15 and 18 years in the wild and spends most of its life on ice. It is the most recent of the eight bear species. The first polar bear was a brown bear subspecies, with brown bear dimensions and brown bear teeth. The polar bear evolution was rapid due to the small population and extreme pressure to survive. Even today, the polar bear continues to evolve to better adapt to the harsh realities of Arctic life. Today s polar bear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Evolution of the polar bear also resulted in curved, needle sharp claws for clinging to ice and grabbing prey. In addition, they developed large, partially webbed paws to assist with swimming. On land, their enormous paws are useful for traveling across loose snow and the paws provide a bigger area to spread their weight across on thin ice. Another adaptation is the polar bear s longer neck which is needed to keep their head above water when swimming (Polar Bear Evolution 1995). All of these characteristics, unique to the polar bear, have been part of its evolution. The hearing and eyesight of polar bears is quite similar to human beings, however, over the years, the polar bear developed an extraordinary sense of smell. According to Canadian Wildlife magazine, polar bears can smell seals at ranges up to 32 kilometers (2002). They can smell through thick snow and even through ice. This unique ability was an important part of the evolutionary process for survival in Arctic conditions where vegetation is severely limited and food may be miles away. The favorite food of the polar bear is the ringed seal, however if hungry enough, they will eat other breeds of seals including bearded, harp, hooded and harbor. Polar bears will also eat beluga whales and walrus (Field Guide 2002). At times, they will even eat eggs, crabs and kelp (Milius 1994). Company Level By 2019, Square Enix would strive to attain an ISO 14001:2015. Prior to 2019, Square Enix will start to maintain an EMS, which will be built on top of our existing Quality Management System as suggested by Willborn (1998) seen in Figure 7: Adapting EMS based on QMS (Willborn, 1998). With the EMS, the first internal audit will start by 4th quarter of 2017. Square Enix will release a Corporate Social Responsibility objective in upcoming months. The time is needed for our company to address our company stand and consult environmental experts, nevertheless, as according to Russell (2008) CSR is too big an issue to leave to someone else to address and recommended both companies and project managers to work harder to influence environmental sustainability as both are the front line decision makers, consistent with Watson et al. s (2012) call. Comparison Of Nihilism In The West And Persia On the other hand, the comparison between the nihilism in the West and its counterpart in Persia shows us both of them were a reaction toward the situation of the time. In the West, nihilism was a reaction that was created in response of great changes both in ideologies and in industraliaism. Indeed, ideologies such as capitalism and individualism reinforced the creation and the spread of nihilism. However, in Persia, nihilism was an imported ideology and a reaction that was created as a result of the foreigner s invasions. • 12. The Paradox Of Sustainable Development The Paradox of Sustainable Development in Southern Bahia While driving through the Atlantic Forest in Bahia, everywhere one looked it was green. I could not get over how much green there was. Unfortunately, only 7% of the original forest here remains today (Hance). The rapid growth of the cocoa economy combined with unsustainable practices led to this rapid decline. Agriculture still plays a major role in this region and will continue to impact the Atlantic Forest ecosystem unless more sustainable measures are put into place. There are numerous groups responsible for the direction of development in this region; however, a special emphasis needs to be placed on the role of social divisions and inequality. Presently and into the future, social classes will have an important role in the success or failure of sustainable development in the Atlantic Forest region. To comprehend why, sustainable development must be defined and then evaluated in the context of agriculture and land distribution. In order to understand how social classes can affect sustainable development, the term sustainable development must first be defined. The most widely accepted definition was created by the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development in 1987. This commission, also known as the Brundtland Commission, focused on combining two concepts that previously were seen as contradictory ideas: the environment and development. • 13. Cost Benefit Analysis Of Spotsylvania County Public Schools Cost Benefit Analysis In recent years, the homeschooled population in Spotsylvania County Public Schools (SCPS) has continued to grow. Due to state regulations, the governing body of the division, the Spotsylvania County School Board (SCSB) developed a policy to address the procedures and protocols necessary to guide homeschooling options in the division: Policy LBD (2015) (See Appendix A). According to L. Binion, Guidance Director for SCPS, currently the division has 1,036 registered and 31 pending homeschooled students in grades K 12 (personal communication, November 13, 2015). Further, although the division has generally averaged 3 4 additional requests weekly, requests have skyrocketed to 1 2 per day for the past several weeks. The spike is likely connected to two recent negative events associated with the division a thwarted mass shooting plan, and a case of severe hazing at a high school, (L. Binion, personal communication, November 19, 2015). There are financial ramifications for the school division each time a student is opt ed out of the public school system. Virtual schools can be effective and may be a better approach for students with certain situations, such as injury, lengthy illness, bullying, and issues with anxiety to name a few, but there needs to be an established set of requirements put in place first. However, virtual schooling may not be appropriate for elementary age children. In addition, low performing students benefit more when placed in an environment where there is communication with peers, and instant scaffolding is available when needed to help the student s understanding of the content. While most of these people can get away from it, one significant population does not always have that option. Innocent children and infants are most affected by second hand smoke. Unfortunately, these adolescents do not know that it is causing major health effects to their underdeveloped bodies. Children and infants involuntary inhale smoke in their homes and on the streets where they live. Laws regarding smoking in restaurants, on playgrounds, and on school properties have majorly decreased the risks. However, it is not limited to those areas. There are more ways to decrease it. Interventions that reduce second hand smoke in homes where children live and reduce smoking before, during and after birth will decrease an infant s exposure. Providing counseling, follow up techniques, and education to parents, or primary caretakers who smoke are two ways that can help them quit and realize the harmful effects that smoking actually has on their children. Focusing on the individual who is harmed in these situations is not always the answer. After finding the cheese the two humans become content with their find, and stop searching for more. In contrast the mice continue their search for cheese. The humans begin to become use to the vast amount of cheese, thus they begin a pattern of consuming the cheese without resupplying it. Eventually the cheese diminishes until there is none left. This slow decline of cheese is no surprise to the mice. Although it brings jobs to the country, and bring us domestic fuel, it is becoming a health hazard to bio life, which is very important. Fracking (formal name hydraulic fracturing), is the process of which million of gallons of water are pumped a mile underground to get methane out of pockets in the shale. These scientists approach a closer look on the reactions the nervous system has when humans have neurological, psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders. The entire concept of neuroscience is addressed as a subdivision of biology. It is applied to chemistry, cognitive science, engineering, mathematics, linguistics and more. Scientists say that neuroscience is identical as neurobiology but there is a difference between the two conceptions. Neurobiology focuses mainly on the biology of the nervous system and neuroscience emphasizes on any portion of the nervous system. Neuroscientists have various fields of study that include cellular, functional, computational and medical aspects of the nervous system. The history of neuroscience dates back and the Ancient Egyptians believed that intelligence rooted from the heart. Throughout the process of mummification, they detached the brain but left the heart inside of the body. OECD countries such as Canada and Sweden are exposed to broadly comparable forces of structural change, such as exposure to international trade and investment flows and to rapid technological change, but differ significantly in terms of labour market institutions. This suggests that institutions such as collective bargaining can have significant impacts on the quality of jobs as well as on the level of inequality between wage earners. As the OECD notes, a major explanation for large differences between countries is labour market institutions: different institutional settings with regard to wage bargaining, legal minimum wages and the generosity of unemployment and other related benefits appear to account for some of the wide variation across countries in the over all incidence of low pay. SYMBOLS A symbol that is used or associated with the religion of Confucianismis the yin yang. Yin yang are the two countervailing forces of the universe, each necessary for balance yet each constantly changing in power. Yin refers to any thing that is negative, yang refers to anything that is positive. The irony is that these two things tell people everything they know, it is impossible for the both not to be in coexistence with each other. This is saying that life attracts opposites, such as: good and evil, light and darkness, and war and peace. It shows the two opposites, yin and yang, eternally pursuing each other in a harmonious way. It is true they are opposites, but there is no conflict, there is only balance. This drawing symbolizes the way life should be lived. No one can hope for all pleasure and no pain, or all life and no death, or all happiness and no waiting, or all agreement and no disagreement. • 37. Ocean Currents Are Affected By Global Warming The answer is yes. During this quarter we learned a lot about global warming and its disturbing effects on ocean and climate. Ocean currents that are caused by thermohaline circulation are affected by global warming due to glacial melting in Antarctica and Greenland which cause abundant freshwater input into thermohaline circulation and thus mixing of freshwater with saline water causes the current to slow down and even possibly to shut down, for example, ocean current such as Gulf Stream. Likewise, global warmingcauses tidal range change due to sea level rise, which is caused by the same factor of glacial melting. NOAA suggests that tidal datums must be updated at least every 20 25 years due to global sea level rise. According to Doeke ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. History Of Latin American Underdevelopment By J. Samuel... Modernization and Dependency: Alternative Perspectives in the Study of Latin American Underdevelopment by J. Samuel Valenzuela and Arturo Valenzuela broadly compares and analyzes modernization and the dependency approach (1978, p.536) within the context of underdevelopment in Latin America. Valenzuela and Valenzuela first begin by discussing the modernization perspective, its assumptions and how this perspective relates to Latin America underdevelopment (1978, p.537). Valenzuela and Valenzuela determined that modernization literature assumes that for a society to modernize it must reject traditional values and patterns. Essentially, it is the internal traditional practises that need to be dismantled for modernization to take place. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Development and underdevelopment are linked and condition each other mutually resulting in a divided world that consists of industrial central countries and underdeveloped peripheral countries (Valenzuela and Valenzuela, 1978, p.544), with the periphery often being constrained by its role in the global capitalist system (Valenzuela and Valenzuela, 1978, p.544). The level of analysis differs greatly between the modernization approach and dependency approach, where modernization focuses predominantly on the behaviours, beliefs and traditions of individuals, the dependency approach focuses on elements outside the individual unit such as international trade, class alliances and conflict (Valenzuela and Valenzuela, 1978, p.550). Where the modernization approach focuses on the microsocial, the dependency approach focuses on the macrosocial (Valenzuela and Valenzuela, 1978, p.550). Valenzuela and Valenzuela have determined that the dependency approach has a fundamental advantage compared to modernization theory (1978, p.552), dependency perspective is much more open to drawing from a broader body of evidence and range of phenomena, such as the relationship between central countries and the periphery , trade and class alliances. • 40. The Theory Of Egoism And Altruism In this paper I will argue that selecting only one form of egoism is not enough to explain human motives and that it takes a mix of several theories to explain it, specifically a mix of ethical egoism and altruism, with the side note that intent is not important in this situation. The mix is important, as any one theory seemingly fails to encapsulate the scope of human interactions. Pure ethical egoism, the idea that each person should only try to help themselves, makes people out to be too greedy and seemingly unwilling to help anyone at any point in their lives. Pure altruism, the idea that people should use their abilities and advantages to exclusively help others, makes people too willing to sacrifice what they have for someone else. If people were completely altruistic nothing would ever be accomplished and eventually those advantages would become erased as people stop working to better themselves. I also believe that the intent of the action is not important so the moralityof the action should be directly tied to the outcome, not the thought process of the person doing the action. All of these ideas will be explained in more detail later in the paper. This paper will look at each of these three factors individually, show why they are insufficient for explaining human motives on their own and then explain how they can all work in conjunction to better explain human motives. This paper will then go on to show how someone might disagree with this thesis by providing some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Fallen Art Short Film Themes This short film criticizes war by showing us that war is bad in general, and violence is senseless. Fallen Art who was directed by Tomasz Baginski showed three themes in his short film setting points on why war is bad through three different characters. His first theme is the man in a higher power uniform that s kicking the soldiers off the ladder who represents power in the military. Then the old guy in a lab coat taking the pictures, represents the value of military life by taking pictures of the soldiers once they land from the fall. Lastly the young fat guy towards the end of the filmrepresents waras entertainment by creating art through the pictures given to him by the old guy. I believe the argument the director is trying to make through his film is that violence is senseless, and we should take in consideration those who are willing to go into war knowing the risks, and the endings it can lead to. My admiration for Hitchcock, along with the number of his films I love, increased after we watched his beloved Vertigo in my class. It may have barely surpassed Psycho as my favorite Hitchcock film. This film stars James Stewart as John Scottie Ferguson, a San Francisco detective forced to quit the force after a traumatizing event causes him to develop acrophobia. He soon takes up a case as a sort of private eye, however, when an old acquaintance from college asks him to investigate the strange habits of his wife (Kim Novak). Stewart obliges, with dire consequences. One of the surprises in this film, for me, was Stewart as Scottie, who performed excellently. I like Jimmy Stewart, but I ve never been as enamored with him as some movie buffs. That has changed some, as I think this is his best performance I ve seen. He makes you care for his character and believe his motivations and feelings for the first portion of the movie. He struggles a bit in the emotional scenes, but he still succeeds in evoking our sympathy. By the end of the film, his performance takes a remarkable turn and he becomes genuinely disturbing. The Boxer Rebellion, also known as the Boxer Uprising, was a movement created by nationalist Chinese men in response to what they perceived to be the westernization of their country by European forces and influences ( Boxer Rebellion). Most of the people involved were very young men who had been inducted into a society known as the Yihequan, or Society of Righteous and Harmonious Fists, to fight against foreign influences that were making their way into the culture that many Chinese people loved and wanted to protect (Harrison). The Yihequan felt that their enemies were not only the European troops and missionaries that had made their way into China, but also the Chinese people who had welcomed the foreigners and converted to Christianity in response to European missionaries (Tiedemann). They were not only angered at the perceived erasure of their traditional culture, but China had been going through a host of problems at the time, including severe droughts leading to widespread food shortages, and many of the Yihequan chose to blame this on the Christian influences in China. This was due to the belief in traditional Chinese culture that the only way to end drought was to pray to the gods to end it. One way to assess pain behaviours is to observe them in a clinical setting (although pain is also assessed in a natural setting as the patient goes about his or her everyday activities). Keefe and Williams (1992) have identified five elements that need to be considered when preparing to assess any form of behaviour through this type of observation. A rationale for observation: it is important for clinicians to know why they are observing pain behaviours. One reason is to identify problem behaviours that the patient may be reluctant to report, such as pain when swallowing, so that treatment can be given. Another is to monitor the progress of a course of treatment. A method for sampling pain behaviour techniques for sampling and recording behaviour include continuous observation, measuring duration (how long the patient takes to complete a task), frequency counts (the number of times a target behaviour occurs) and time sampling (for example, observing the patient for five minutes every hour). Definitions of the behaviour: observers need to be completely clear as to what behaviours they are looking for. Observer training: in most clinical situations, there will be different observers at different times and it is important that they are consistent. Reliability and validity: the most useful

  • 57. My Mother Speech My Mother I ve been taught many things by many people in my life, but I believe that the person who has taught me the most is my mother. My mother has taught me several important things I will need to know right now as well as when I am older, such as, how to react to situations, things about the Bible, and how to handle things that involve boys. In the many times my mother has told me how to react to situations, I haven t always listened, and in the end, Mom is ALWAYS right. One time I didn t listen to my mother s advice was when I was in elementary school. A little boy was picking on me and I really didn t like it. I told Momma and Daddy about it and their responses were completely different. Momma told me to ignore him and pray for him, but Daddy told me to punch him in the nose. All I m going to say is, I ended up in the principals office wishing I had taken my mother s advice. Now, enough with all the bad stuff, let me tell you about a time I actually did listen to my mom. My best friend Laura and I were having a disagreement on the way we believe. I believe that when you sin, that means doing something that goes against the Bible, you must ask for forgiveness or you are once again a sinner. Laura, however, did not believe that. She told me that it was stupid of me to ask the Lord to forgive me because once I am saved, I am saved forever and I can sin all I want. I told her otherwise, that caused a great debate between us. I told my mom about this problem and she told me to say this, Laura, if I am wrong and you are right, what harm will it do for me to ask for forgiveness? I ll go to heaven either way. But if you are wrong and I am right, you re in for a whole lot of trouble when it comes time for Jesus to come back. I said that to Laura and so far the topic has only come up a few times and we are still best friends, all thanks to my mother s great advice. Now that we re on the topic of beliefs I m going to tell you about some of the things my mother has taught me about The Bible. I have been in church all my life, so has my mother and father. My father is a deacon in our church and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
