2. The Inferno By Dante And The Allegory Of The Cave
The significance and connotation of light seems to be driven by its relation to truth. Truth is some
thing that has been debated since the beginning of human thought. Even in western philosophy
alone, the meaning of light has changed, creating a one to question the sole symbol light can act as.
Plato s argument equates truthto light, while Dante s argument equates God to light. Dante argues
that the light is guiding, rather than definite. Through these two examples, I will show that light
symbolizing the equivalent of truth or searching for truth yields problems. To support my claim, I
will look at The Infernoby Dante and The Allegory of the Cave by Plato, whose interpretations of
light appear to work well with one another. First, I will analyze the significance of in a non
religious context. Second, I will analyze the significance of in a religious context. Thirdly, I will
show why this metaphor of light yield problems for the viewer of light.
In Plato s Allegory of the Cave, light represents a definitive truth. After seeing the form of the good
, in the physical world, light is produced, paralleling, in the mental world, truth and understanding
is produced (Plato 211). Since seeing the light is only obtained seeing the Truth, Plato regards light
as an end rather than a means to find a higher truth. This light in The Allegory of the Cave prevents
humans from behaving awkwardly and appearing completely ridiculous (Plato 211). Plato argues
that the light destroys

4. Types Of Evidence For Instructional Purposes Essay
1. Once you have identified supporting claims, the grounds of an argument, then you need to be
able to evaluate the evidence that will be used to prove these claims. Evidence is the most
important part of any inductive argument. But it is important to recognize that not all evidence is
reliable. Some types of evidencecan t be trusted at all. And even when good evidence is used, it
might not be appropriate for certain types of claims. Thus, evidence has to be both reliable and
logically appropriate, in a word valid, in order to prove a claim true or false.
2. To oversimplify for instructional purposes, I want to explore nine major types of evidence that
are most commonly used in arguments, starting with the weakest form of evidence and moving
forward toward the strongest form. I will briefly explain each type of evidence, focusing on how
reliable it tends to be (strong to weak) and how it could be appropriately used.
Handout: Types of Evidence Sources
3. The first type of evidence is personal experience, sometimes called testimony or an eye witness
account. This evidence is based on what an individual experiences directly or indirectly.
Psychologically, we naturally consider this type of evidence to be the strongest because it is the
most immediate and intimately tied to our local world, which we know the best. However, from a
sociological perspective, personal experience is actually the weakest type of evidence.

Abraham Lincoln s Domestic Agenda during the Civil War Abraham Lincoln is generally
acknowledged as one of the nation s greatest presidents because of his accomplishments during his
presidency. He was a politician and lawyer who served as the sixteenth president of the United
States during one of the most controversial times in American history, known as the American Civil
War. The Civil War broke out on April 12, 1861, shortly after President Lincoln was inaugurated,
in Fort Sumter, South Carolina, and was fought till May 9, 1865, when Robert E. Lee surrendered
the last major Confederate army to Ulysses S.Grant (McPherson). Fighting over the controversy of

On November 19, 1863, Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address, along with Edward Everett, at
a ceremony dedicating the battlefield as a National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. In less
than three minutes, Lincoln identified the nation s mission with the principle that all men are
created equal, spoke of the war as bringing about a new birth of freedom, and defined the essence
of democratic government. Lincoln honored the Union dead and reminded the listeners of the
purpose of the soldier s sacrifice: equality, freedom, and national unity (HistoryNet). The sacrifices
of Union soldiers, Lincoln declared, would ensure that government of the people, by the people,
for the people, shall not perish from the earth. The Battle of Gettysburg which was fought four
months earlier, was the single bloodiest battle of the Civil War, where more than 45,000 men were
killed, injured, and captured. In fact, this battle proved to be the turning point of the war: General
Robert E. Lee s defeat and retreat from Gettysburg marked the last Confederate invasion of Northern
territory and the beginning of the Southern army s ultimate decline. Though not well received at the
time, it took its place among the most famous speeches in

6. The Ineffective Use Of Shorthands In Dracula By Bram Stoker
Bram Stoker makes the argument that technological advancements are ineffective through his
representation of Harker s use of shorthand. Stoker portrays how Harker attempts to challenge the
Count by using shorthand, but yet remains vulnerable to his power due to the ineffectiveness of
modern advancements. While Harker is trapped in Draculas castle at the beginning of the novel, he
writes in his journal in shorthand. This abbreviated form of writing allows Harker to write more
swiftly and most importantly, it ensures that his writing is unintelligible to Dracula, who is unable
to decipher the symbols and abbreviations that he uses. While Harker is confined within Dracula s
castle, the Count requests that he writes letters to his friends back... Show more content on

Writing in shorthand is a survival strategy for Harker as he is imprisoned within the Count s castle.
His shorthand is unintelligible to the Count since it is a newly emerged method of communication
and as a result, he is able to disclose his frightening experiences in the castle to Mina since it is
unintelligible to the Count. The use of shorthand itself suggests that Victorian society is shifting to
advancements in communication that prioritize efficiency and productivity, which reflects
modernity s drive to innovate technology which transforms Victorian society as a result. Harker s
use of shorthand is presented in a way that attempts to challenge Dracula, who is old fashioned and
counters modernity as he represents the supernatural in constrast to scientific and modern progress.
The novel integrates the use of this modern advancement in order to demonstrate the contrast
between modernity and supernatural traditions as Harker finds comfort in this modern form of
communication as he is threatened by Dracula s supernatural abilities within his old, dark ruined
castle. However, Harker s use of shorthand itself is not enough to overcome the

7. The Evolution of Folk Music Vocals
The Evolution of Folk Music Vocals
By its definition, folk music technically refers to indigenous forms of music created by local,
regional or native populations as a way of engaging in cultural expression. This means that at its
core, folk music is not intended to command a commercial value nor is it necessarily folk music by
definition once a form has been co opted by an outside culture. However, this is also a definition
for folk which has long been rendered obsolete by the aesthetic and vocal qualities that listeners
tend to associate with the genre today. This is because the most historically significant instances in
which folk music converged with the commercial zeitgeist would come to produce a highly
distinctive set of sounds.
Indeed, when we think of folk music, one tends instantly to conjure image of a young Bob Dylan
with harmonica rack and guitar, wheezing his half singing, half speaking vocal style in Greenwich
Village. This iconic vision from the Folk Revival of the 1960s is probably the best bridge that
we have to folk influences like the socialist activists of the Almanac Singers and the Weavers, like
Delta country folk singers like Mississippi John Hurt or Josh White, or like bluegrass innovators
such as the Carter Family. Indeed, Nelson (2010) tells that figures such as Woody Guthrie, Pete
Seeger, and John and Alan Lomax, made a huge impact on folk music in America, one which is still
felt today. It is likely that their joint efforts with each other and

In the Marine Corps though men and women both serve together they often aren t treated the

more, with the weight limit set at 164 pounds for a woman who is 5 foot 8 and 184 pounds for a
woman who is 6 feet tall. By comparison, male Marines are allowed to weigh more but must

Women were looking to become their own person, they wore comfortable and colorful clothing,

be independent and not be highly criticized for.
Flappers weren t just recognized for the fashionable clothes, it described their unconventional

wanted change, older women wanted change too, by fighting for their right to vote. They also
used fashion to reflect what they were fighting for. Many liberated suffragettes wore bright red

Sound science is scientific studies that have been conducted by qualified researchers. However,
there is no literal definition for sound science, as the term varies from scientist to scientist, company
to company, and politician to politician for purposes to their advantage. So what makes research
sound? While many misuse the purpose, whether or not sciencecan be backed or considered stable
should be determined by health, environmental and technological factors. The issue of sound
science poses many health concerns. In 2003, the American Dental Association released a statement
that they would continue to use amalgams containing mercury, and health care policies must be

There are many speculations about conclusions of environmental studies. While the environment is
constantly changing, scientists are constantly learning more about it. One of the biggest
controversies of nature is climate change. No matter a person s stand on climate change, they
almost always rely on some type of scientific study.
Another popular topic that affects everyone in their daily lives is genetically modified organisms.
There seems to be lots of dispute over the dangers of GMOs. Concerns that GMOs contain harsh
chemicals that are potentially toxic causes (van Rijssen). Sound science is challenged in the debate
over genetically modified organisms because the regulations on these organisms do not prevent
threatening circumstances (van Rijssen). For example, if a genetically modified organism was to be
grown for consumption, scientists would have to test the effects of the GMO on the human body.
However, regulations prevent human testing for fear of harm to the test subject. Therefore, the
research for a product cannot be determined sound because there are difficulties experimenting and
achieving results. Along with GMOs comes pesticides. The pesticides protect crops from damaging
insects,

the realm of international law such treaties are binding merely on the governments of Member

The interpretation of Article 234 In Van Gend en Loos v Nederlandse Administratie der
Balastigen[8], the plaintiff, a Dutch firm, tried to invoke Article 12 (now 25)[9] of the EC Treaty
before a Dutch tribunal, the Tariefcommissie. Using the Article 234 procedure the Tariefcommissie
referred two questions to the Court. Firstly, Whether Article 12…has direct application within
the territory of a Member State, in other words, whether nationals of such a State can, on the basis
of the article in question, lay claim to individual rights which the courts must protect .[10] It was
argued by the Dutch and Belgian Governments that this reference concerned the application of the
Treaty and not it s interpretation as required by Article 234, and hence that the Court had no
jurisdiction to consider it. The query, they considered, as a matter of Dutch constitutional law,
should be answered by the Dutch national courts, subject to Articles 226 and 227, which allow the
Commission and Member States to challenge actions of other Member States. In a superficial
holding that this reference related to interpretation only ,

15. Essay on Group Interaction in The Wu Tang Clan
Group Interaction in The Wu Tang Clan The Wu Tang clan is a nine member hip hop group that
formed in 1992. Since 1992 the group has gone on to find success as a group and as solo artist.
The Wu Tang Clan is easily one of the most influential hip hop groups of all time. The group has
taken aspects from every area such as kung fu to religion and blended them into a unique brand of
music that is many times imitated but never duplicated. What makes the group able to blend such
a wide varity of topics into its music is the diversity and ability of its members. The group consists
of the Rza, Genius, Method Man, Inspectah Deck, U God, Old Dirty Bastard, Masta Killah,

Socioemotional tasks are much more interpersonal. For example if a member of the group is
unsure about something on a solo album another member will come in and give feedback to that
other member. Furthermore, if one member is having legal problems other members of the
group will step in and lend emotional support to help the other through a tough time. Another
quality that makes the Wu Tang Clan a group is group cohesion. Group cohesion is the strength
of the bonds linking members to one another and to the group. The Wu Tang Clan is a very
cohesive group, on both the individual and group level. On the individual level all members
have a great deal of respect, trust, and liking for each other. This is evident by the fact that all
members always have other members from the group come and appear on their solo albums.
The group is very cohesive on the group level for the fact that after years and years of being
together the group has never lost a member and no member has ever swayed from the Wu Tang
Clan principle United we stand, divide we fall . The group realizes that together they are one.
Group Formation The reason why the Wu Tang Clan formed was out of survival. It may sound
strange but its true. Before the group formed all of the members of the group were struggling to
stay afloat in life. The Rza and the Genius were broke, Raekwon was selling drugs, Ghost

20. Kristallnacht During The Holocaust
During World War II, a cruel event called the Holocaust was in effect. The Holocaust was a
genocide of all people deemed inferior by Hitler and the Nazis, mainly the Jews. During the
Holocaust, many different acts of terror took place. This included the pogrom of The Night of
Broken Glass, or Kristallnacht, which actually means Night of Crystal. Kristallnachtwas a violent
protest that caused great damage and distress among the Jewish community in the late 1930s.
Kristallnacht was a violent protest that caused great damage to Jewish owned buildings and
businesses. It was on November 9, 1938 that it began and though the Nazis despised Jews, they
claimed that there was more to the pogrom and why it happened. The pretext for the pogroms was
the shooting in Paris on November 7 of the German diplomat Ernst vom Rath by a Polish Jewish
student, Herschel Grynszpan. (Berenbaum 1) This means that the main excuse for Kristallnacht
was the shooting of a German Official by a Jew. This shooting had angered the Nazis and led to the
pogrom. In its aftermath, German officials announced that Kristallnacht had erupted as a
spontaneous outburst of public sentiment in response to the assassination of Ernst vom Rath. (

suddenly due to the assassination of one of their own, and they were not entirely responsible for it.

Dyslexia literally translated from Greek as inadequate words or language is a learning disability
characterised by problems with reading, writing, spelling and speaking. The most common
definition of dyslexia is the discrepancy definition, which suggests that dyslexics are those whose
reading ability is below average for their age group, or IQ. The first case of dyslexiawas reported in
1896 by Dr. Pringle Morgan, who described an intelligent 14 year old boy who had an inability to

Gallagher, Frith and Snowling (submitted) demonstrated that 4 year old children from families
with a first degree relative suffering from dyslexia performed worse on tests of language and
speech processing, compared to children from non dyslexic families. This study supports the
phonological deficit hypothesis as it suggests that dyslexic children show early deficiencies in
speech production. Although the role of heritability is important to consider, due to the real
world implications it has of helping to identify at risk children who are more likely to develop
dyslexia, it cannot explain why there is only a 50 per cent rate of heritability for dyslexia. There
has also been very little research into the heritability of either deficits in visual processing, or
cerebellar abnormality.
Despite the support for the phonological deficit hypothesis, one of the main criticisms of the theory
is that it fails to acknowledge possible deficits in visual processing which may cause dyslexia. The
visual magnocellular deficit hypothesis (Stein, 2000) suggests that dyslexia may be caused by
deficiencies within visual processing; specifically within the magnocellular system, which is
responsible among other things for timing visual events when reading (Stein, 2001). Therefore, if
our eyes wander whilst reading, the magnocellular is responsible for bringing our focus back on
target. In dyslexics, it is suggested that

how we have always had had this practice. The office is full of corruption because money and
influence run the presidency. The political leaders lie to the people that he is intended to serve.

of the other techniques were more obvious in an example of serving in the Union Army greatly
increased your chances at becoming president. Simply being a Union soldier should not be a
major factor in determining a great leader but in the court of public opinion it is kind of
prerequisite in the elections after the Civil War.
The term giving for this was Waving the bloody shirt. Grant was elected after Civil War because
of his role as the leading general of Union forces.
Towards the end of an election, presidential candidates become more of a brand name then a person.
In the most recent election, Bush and Gore both put on equally entertaining shows. While watching

judging what is really important in one s life. In Dee s case, she goes out to make all that can of

Obviously, Dee s family is not who is actually oppressing her. Dee oppresses herself in many
ways by the limitations that she puts on herself with her family and new lifestyle. All of the
choices she decides, to make herself a more well rounded person, to better fit into society, end up
making her a deplorable person because of the harm that it has on her family. Literary critic
Mary Helen Washington believes Dee is an example of a stereotypical assimilated women who
alienates them self from their roots, and cuts them self off from real contact with their own people
and their inner self (22). This concept explains why Dee rarely makes trips home, and shows that
she is really disowning a part of herself by not accepting her family and past.

time. For manufactures of any product from food to medicine to vehicles, they must create items
that are safe to use. This is not only necessary to long term brand value and company success, but
it is required by law. Perfection is the goal; however product failure and defects always occur,
especially in advanced products such as vehicles. According to the statics, we found that Ford used

vehicles. (MotorTrend, 2011) For the multinational companies, it will be necessary for them to set

32. The Pros And Cons Of Hazing In Sports
Humiliated, scared, and pressured. Being hazed in front of a group of people, in public, or in
private can be a mixture of these emotions. Hazing is a form humiliation and sometimes these
activities can endanger students. It should not be allowed in schools or other workplaces,
especially if it involves excessive drinking and violence. These things happen to people in sports,
bands, military, and in a workplace.
First, people may say hazing is okay because it strengthens a person mentally. It teaches boys to
be men or girls to be women. Donna Phillips, whose son experienced severe hazing at the Citadel
in Charleston, SC, said There s no need for hazing. It destroys people (Preventing). It is fine that
a person may feel like that because they may have experienced it, but it was not as severe as the
people in other cases. Others may kids will be kids, so someone is going to get hurt. But it should
not get to that point.
In continuation, hazing can happen to athletics. In 1999, 224 NCAA schools with 2,027 athletes
were surveyed (Study). Football was at the top of the list, but swimming and lacrosse were not so
far behind. Two thirds of these athletes were forced to do embarrassing things. The study was then
expanded to a national survey. More than 250,000 college athletes experienced some sort of hazing.
Enable for them to join a team, hazing changed that opportunity of not getting in. Some athletes
have been beaten, kidnapped, and abandoned; for them to find their way

33. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the demographic...
The demographic transition model describes how the population of a country changes over time. It
gives changes in birth rates and death rates, and shows that countries pass through five different
stages of population change (Stage one High fluctuation, Stage two Early expanding, Stage three
Late expanding, Stage four Low fluctuating and Stage five Decline) The demographic transition
model has both strengths and weaknesses for example some strengths would include that the
demographic transition model is a universal concept, therefore being able to be applied to every
country in the world, Another strength would be that the model shows a change over time and can
be seen as a predictor, with the expectation that every country... Show more content on

It also shows change over time and can also shows change over time and can be used as a head

Transition model also has its weaknesses some weakness would include the fact that the
demographic transition model does not include the role of the government, some governments may
put antenatal and prenatal operations in place to encourage the decrease or to increase the birth
rate within these countries, therefore countries like China that are antenatal and have the one child
policy put in place and countries like the UK which are prenatal and offer child benefits may show
fluctuation of the birth rate in stages it should be decreasing or increasing in. Further more In
stage four, the UK experienced a post war baby boom where the birth rate should be steadily
decreasing this shows that the demographic transition model does not include the impacts of wars,
natural hazards or migration either. In addition another weakness would be that it is Eurocentric
based and therefore is assuming that all other countries in the world will follow the European
sequence of economic changes

34. Arthur Murder Investigation
Murder Investigation Report
I was recently assigned to investigate the death of a man named, Arthur. Upon arrival at the crime
scene, I was told by the wife of Arthur, named Queenie, that Arthur had been extremely drunk and
while coming down from the stairs to get another drink, he slipped and died from a major wound to
his head. Queenie s statement suggested that she had nothing to do with the death as she was at the
local club with a few of her friends and she came back home she witnessed the body of her dead
husband lying on the floor. Queenie also explained that she and her husband had quarreled that
same night, before Queenie left to go to the club. At around 1pm, she had invited her friends to her
house for extra drinks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, what we witnessed was that Arthur was lying face up with one leg on the stairs, which
contradicts Queenie s statement. If Arthur had actually fallen while coming down from the stairs,
he would ve fallen on his face, lying on his stomach. However, Arthur was lying on his back
which is an extremely unnatural position. Autopsy reports confirmed that Arthur, had died on
impact, so the idea of him turning after falling can be dismissed without argument. Also, as seen
at the crime scene, Arthur was coming down the stairs to prepare himself another drink but as he
fell the glass stayed in his hand, still intact in his hand despite, falling from a long distance. The
glass would have most likely shattered on impact and spread across the room. However as the
glass stayed in his hand, it is very unlikely that Arthur, had a glass in his hand during the time of
fall and suggests that Arthur had not fallen or some external force or some other person might have
put the glass in his hand. Next, something we noticed immediately was that, the area surrounding
Arthur was extremely neat. However, with Arthur being approximately 175 pounds, a fall from
across that distance would have generated a lot of force, damaging any property around him. It is
extremely unlikely that, despite Arthur s fall, the property around him would have stayed
extremely clean and

35. Uncle Tungsten Summer Reading Assignment
Uncle Tungsten Summer Reading Assignment General Overview Uncle Tungsten is Oliver Sacks s
description of his early life filled with the logic, excitement, and anomalies of chemistry. In the
beginning, Oliver Sacks is fascinated with metals and their properties, largely influenced by his
Uncle Dave, who is better known as Uncle Tungsten. He asks Uncle Tungsten, his parents, and
many others, questions about anything that intrigues him typically with chemistryin mind.
Throughout his boyhood, he is constantly learning and studying everything dealing with chemistry
including the important men and women (heroes) that contributed to this field. As he matures, his
interests jump from metals to light bulbs, chemical reactions, Humphry Davy, photography, the
elements and their discoveries, Dalton, Mendeleev, and other chemists, electricity, fluorescence,
and radioactivity. Oliver Sacks also writes of some difficult times in his boyhood, including his
exile to Braefield, a boarding school, during the WWII, beginning in 1939. Sacks s house was
near London, which was expected to be bombed, so he left along with his brother Michael.
During this time in his life, he felt abandoned by his family, tortured by his all powerful
headmaster, and bullied by his classmates. It was at this time in his life that he discovered that
chemistry would always be something he could hold on to, and it remained his life force until he

36. Racism In Southern America
In America, just before World War II, the Southern culture has a ample amount of racism. Racism
has been a part of human nature since we could communicate. Racism eventually arose to
lynching, which only stopped, mostly, not too long ago. An event in 1931, made the world
realize just how sever the racism is in Southern America. This event, called the Scottsboro Trials,
shaped America and it s history in many ways, like the view on racism, the end of Southern
justice, and a change in stereotypes. Racism is viewed in many ways, but doesn t change often.
Yet racism will always be there for various different reasons, whether it would be the easily
offended, violent acts upon a single race, or actual verbal and silent racism. Racism is still with us.

37. Five Points Sociology
The Truth: Irish immigrants were driven to America by the potato famine of the 1840s. This
caused a massive influx of immigrants to New York City who were forced to settle for the
cheapest and shabbiest lodgings in a poorer area of the city, known as Five Points. These kinds
of conditions resulted in dirty, overcrowded spaces with relatively poor standards of living. Men
typically worked at a trade, what we would now consider blue collar, or working class jobs, to
provide for their families. Due to the fact that in this time, women were still not welcome in the
workplace, many unmarried or widowed women were forced to turn to prostitution in order to
support themselves. Gangs were formed to promote political candidates, and sometimes fought
among themselves. There was also a building known as the Old Brewery, where more than 1,000
people supposedly lived. It was torn down in the 1850s so that the land could be used for a
mission to do charity work. In the 1890s, Five Points was converted to factories and public
buildings, essentially ending the Irish occupation of the area. The Civil War began in 1861 and
lasted until 1865, covering the majority of the events in the movie. In order to recruit enough...

38. The Importance Of Teaching Writing
Writing, according to the students, is a secondary in comparison to how the other skills are
thaught such as reading and listening. The students view writing in ELI a subordinate skill that is
used to practice vocabulary and grammar with limited attention put on the writing skill per se. It
is used to reinforce vocabulary items taught in the reading, practice grammatical rules, and
recompose correct sentence structure containing the topic assigned. Teachers expressed that
writing is a sub skill. Teacher E says, [i]t s a sub skill of course. It s a sub skill but they are
marked on it (D3, line172). Like teachers, students perceive writing in the same way, Banan
observed that teachers do not give much importance to teachingwriting: I ve... Show more content

I think the curriculum is useful (Banan, F3, line 8). Students noticed a difference between the
workshops teaching approaches to writing, and their regular classes. Banan describes the rigid
teaching method practised by teachers saying; They tell us a topic and you have to write in a
certain way, but here we learn how to write and we learn the basics of writing (Banan, P3, line 4).
Banan describes how learning is applied in the workshops whereas in their ELI classes, learning
takes place at a minimum. For instance, even though the students take vocabulary in their
classes, they lack the skills to use the words in their writing: I originally didn t know
grammatical rules or writing principles, so the workshops helped me in that way even in level
one, they didn t used to tell us the organization of the sentence like first subject and then verb. I
never knew anything like that, so in the workshops you gave us rules in the beginning and
benefited a lot from it. Also the vocabulary, there are words in the books but we don t benefit
from them in writing, even when you write, you don t think of using them, which is the opposite
of the workshops, the words we take are varied and can use them in the writing, so it helps a lot.
(Banan, P3, line 6)
From the quote above there appears to be a lack in meeting the students needs in ELI classes.
Nawal describes this saying, [l]ike now, she doesn t give us words, gives us a topic and tells us to

39. Driving Forces Affecting The Environment And Competitive...
There are several driving forces affecting the environment and competitive structure within the child
care. We will examine them in greater detail below.
As technology advances, more and more consumers are looking to the internet to make their
purchasing decisions, including child care. In addition, to fully research options, consumers are
looking for more robust, interactive websites. Therefore, some child care centers are offering
virtual walkthrough s of their facility on their website. Additionally, many centers offer tuition
calculators (customizable pricing based on hours required and the child s age), real time waiting
list information, and the facility calendar up to one year in advance. Another is the increase in the
ability to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As incomes rise the market for premium child care options, which may include upgraded preschool
options, nutritional offerings to cater to many different diets and eating styles (e.g. vegan, Paleo,
nut free, gluten free etc.). Conversely, if the nay sayers have their way and the U.S. again faces an
economic downturn and jobs are lost, the decreasing market will increase competition among child
care centers to attempt to maintain their market share.
Some Montessori s participate in the state subsidy programs which assist low income families in
paying for their child care. This expands their market and increases their market share, however to
participate in these programs requires the center be susceptible to the frequent regulatory and
governmental policy changes. This can place an exceptional burden on the child care providers to
remain abreast of the requirements and meet them, despite the possibility of frequent changes.
One other area of concern for local Montessori s and child care centers nationally is the fluctuations
in societal concerns for the children enrolled. In the past twenty years public opinion, research, and
scholarly recommendations have oscillated between enrollment results in lower development in the
child, to enhanced development and everything in between. While public opinion certainly affects
the industry, parents will still need child care, therefore this driving force has a rather weak
influence on the industry.

41. The Impact Of Immigration On The United States And Canada...
Chapter One: Introduction to Investigation
Immigration to North American nations has been a staple process for countries like the United
States and Canada. Without immigrants, these two nations would not have become as large and
successful as they are today. However, easy and encouraged immigration has not always been a
constant for these two countries. Throughout the centuries, there have been issues and disputes
over immigration for particular ethnicities and groups of people which continue even to this day.
One example being the current dispute on Mexican immigrants residing or entering the United
States and whether it requires heavier government intervention. A similar problem beginning
almost two centuries ago has already occurred in both the US and Canada, and was resolved in
extreme manners similar to some of those proposed American politicians. As following a popular
quote by George Santayana, Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it, by examining
past events similar to those seen today, those involved in the issue can make better judgements
based on what has and has not worked in the past.
The aforementioned problem was one of the largest past uproars concerning American and
Canadian immigration, which was with the sudden flow of Chinese immigrants to North America in
the 1800s to the 1920s. Most of whom hailed from Southern China, poor Chinese immigrants that
journeyed to the United States to secure their share in the American Dream, often

42. X-Ray Tube Essay
X ray tube is designed to lower the amount of heat produce, this can be accomplished by the
rotating of the anode which gives off heat. The X ray tube is designed with the anode attach to the
rotor and cathode on the other side of anode. This design determines the characteristics of X ray
beam.
The cathode is a normal cathode is made up of negatively charge small coil wire called filaments,
which is housed in focusing cup. The filament is negatively charged coil of wire which becomes
heated when the electrical current passes through and when that energy becomes enough to expel
the electrons from the filament its called Thermionic Emission. The function of cathode is to push
out electrons which are produced by electric circuit and to turn those electron into a beam. The
filament is contained in the cathode, usually design using a material known as Theorated tungsten.
This theorated tungsten allows for a high temperature without the filament melting and there are
different sizes of filament which can help to vary the spaceial resolution according to what is being
x ray.
The anode has two primary functions, one is to convert electronic energy into x radiation and the
second one is to dissipate the heat created in the process. The part of the x ray tube where x
radiation is produced is a large piece of metal that connects to positive side of electric current. The
anode provides a mechanical support for a target, the material of anode enhances the conversion of
energy and

going on through the whole thing. It s very interesting you can tell and see in Coleridge s writing
where and when he was on an opium induced high. His writing gives you a religious since but then
will change completely and you get this other side of things. He is talking about crazy sea creatures
and skeleton ships and how our lives are just thrown up to chance. But once they are decided this
mariner has to go about repenting for what he has done and helping others not make the same
mistake. When the mariner goes about telling these young men about his mistake and warning them
about all of the worldly things he teaches three principals: Pride, Suffering, and Transformation....
