The Venture Philanthropy Foundation was set up in 2007 by Sir Ian Wood and his family to address societal inequalities through strategic projects and partnerships. It focuses on two key areas: making markets work for the poor in Sub-Saharan Africa, and developing young people in Scotland through the Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) program, launched in 2008. By 2014/2015, YPI engaged over 40,000 Scottish youth and distributed £1.5 million to local charities. The program now operates in 145 secondary schools across 24 local authorities.
