3. Metaphor
• A metaphor makes a comparison between two
unlike things.
• Creates implicit comparisons without the express
use of “like” or “as.”
 Usage:
Useful in literature for using specific images or
concepts to state abstract truths.
 Examples:
1. A port is a transfer point for shipping data.
2. A search engine is fueled by data.
3. Bits commute each day on a data bus.

• A simile compares two different things in an interesting way.
 Usage:
•Use to compare one thing with another. simile uses the words "like" or
"as“
 Examples:
1. The first computer was so big like an elephant.
2. Removing errors is as hard as a nail.
3. The concept behind coding is as deep as the ocean.

6. Allusion
• An allusion is a reference or mention
of person, event, statement, piece of
art, history, or popular culture.
• An allusion is when we hint at
something. Usage:
• Allusions are used as stylistic devices .
• These references do not have to be
explicitly explained
Examples:
1. Execution of code is Kryptonite for
her.
2. I met a man who was good at coding
and a true Dennis Ritchie.
3. Errors are snake for her.

7. Imagery
• Includes language that appeals to all the
human senses, including sight, hearing,
taste, touch, and smell.
Usage:
• Often, built on other literary devices, such
as simile or metaphor, as the author uses
comparisons to appeal to our senses.
Examples:
1. I met a man who was good at coding
and a true Dennis Ritchie.
2. The first computer was so big like an
elephant.
3. My head is pounding like a drum after
coding.

9. Personification
• The attribute of a person nature or human characteristics to
something non-human, or the representation of an abstract
quality in human form.
 Usage:
• Convey concepts in a relatable way.
• Writers use personification to give human characteristics,
such as emotions and behaviors, to non-human things,
animals, and ideas.
 Examples:
1. Errors are dancing across the code.
2. My laptop battery is a friend who protects me during a light
outage.
3. My new concept smiled at the errors in the code.

10. Symbolism
• The use of symbols be they words, people, or
locations to represent ideas or qualities.
Usage:
An artistic movement or style using symbolic images
and indirect suggestion to express ideas, emotions, and
states of mind.
Example:
1. In front-end development, green color is used to
show everything is fine.
2. The red color symbolize alters.
3. A green line in the code editor shows that the code
is fine from start to end.

11. Analogy
An analogy is saying something is like
something else to make some sort of
explanatory point.
Usage:
You can use metaphors and similes when
creating an analogy.
 Example:
1. Internet is like a box of knowledge; you
get every kind of knowledge you want.
2. Finding an error in the code is like finding
a needle in a haystack
3. Removing errors from the code is like
dissecting a frog. You do code without
errors, but the frog dies in the process.
