■ The Kruger National park is the oldest, most popular and biggest
national park from South Africa
■ one of the main attractions in the country.
■ Every year come more than one million people to visit
■ The best and most diverse wildlife, with 336 tree types, 49 fish
varieties, 34 types of amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147
mammals
■ Sites of historical interest such as the Masorini Ruins.
■ The Letaba Elephant Museum
Common Wildlife Sightings:
hyenas, giraffes, impalas and several birds,
including storks and eagles
Possible Activities:
Guided walks, mountain biking, game
drives, wilderness trails
Best Time to Visit
June-August; it’s drier, you’re less likely to
contract malaria, the vegetation is
sparser and animals are drawn to the
watering holes where they are easier to
spot
Gold Gate-Highlands-Nationalpark
■ The park offers some wonderful views.
■ You can see some of the San rock paintings up close.
■ A wilderness hike with a village healer will educate you about
medicinal herbs and traditional treatments.
■ Plenty of short hiking trails are available for one-day visits
■ . Common Wildlife Sightings:
■ mongoose, eland, zebras, springboks and a large number of birds,
including the Cape Vulture, Blue Crane and Secretary Bird

cooler than lower valleys where it gets

THE SHARK CAGE DIVING IN GANSIBAAI
Gansbaai is rougly a two and a half hour drive
from Cape Town and has one the highest
concetration of Great White sharks in the
world. Great White sharks can grow up to 3m
long and very curious
HIKE THE OTTER TRAIL
■ The trail takes 5 days und 4 nights of
camping under the stars to cover a
distance of 28 miles.
■ The trail is unique as it boats the best of
both worlds- the magnificient forest
and clear pools as well as the pristine
South Africa costline.
MOTORBIKING IN BAVIAANSKLOOF
■ It is recommended to do the 100 mile
route over 3 days to take in all it has to
offer, but if time is an issue it can be
done in one day.
■ The region boasts some of Africa,s most
unspoilt wilderness with step passes
and Several river crossing.
SKYDAVING
■ First-time jumpers will need
to be part in a tandem
introductory skydive
where you will be harnessed
to a highly expierenced
instructor.
History FOUNDATION OF THE SOUTH AFRICA
■ South Africa was found by the portugese
sailor Bartolomeu Dias.
■ In 1488 he was trying to discover a trade
route to Cape Storm( Cabo das
Tormentas)
FIRST TRIBES
San and Khoikhoi were the first tribes
■ They are collectively called Khoisan
■ San were hunter – gatherers and the
Khoikhoi were pastoral herders
First
Europeans in
South Africa
■ 15th - 17th century
■ Portugese sailors met the pastoral
Khoikhoi with cattle
■ English and Dutch sailors exchanged
metals for cattle and sheep
■ VOC established a branch office on the
side of city of Cape Town
■ That brought the Khoikhoi in conflict with
Dutch settlers over land ownership in
1652
Colonies
■ Portugal
■ first people in South Africa who colonized indigenous people and brought slaves
there
■ Netherlands
■ The Dutch East India Company (VOC) established a permanent settlement at
the Cape in 1652
■ (They were trying to establish a secure base camp)
■ they colonized South Africa and brought 71,000 slaves
■ BRITAIN
■ In Napoleon's conquests he recieved a colony in South Africa as a reward ,
which later belonged to Britain in order for the colony to be saved from France
First language
■ Bantu is name of the language first spoken in San and Khoikhoi
■ Other languages developed from Bantu,of which Zulu Xhosa are the most
widely spoken today
Independent South Africa
■ Became independet on May 31th 1910 within the British Commonwealth
■ Componenets of unification: Strong government, legal equality of English and
Dutch and right to vote (except black people)
■ Cape Tawn became the seat of parliament , Pretoria- government,
Bloemefontein-Supreme Court
The Age of Apartheid
■ political system of racial segregation in the South Africa
■ People were divided into 8 groups based on their skin
color
■ White people owned large companies, bands and the
best land
■ Black South Africans who refused to came to terms were
persecuted and imprisoned by police
Resistance to Apatheid
■ Black people resisted Apartheid and found support in
many other coutries
■ 1973-Apatheid banned as a crime against humanity
■ 1974-South Africa expelled from the UN General
Assembly
■ 1994-South Africa government allowed free elections in
which all South Africans participated
■ Nelson Mandela-most famous fighter against apartheid
South Africa in 21st century
■ Despite cessation of Apatrheid, South Africa remained poor
because of white people
■ They took Land from blacks ana earned 12 times more than
others
■ Even today, South Africa barely survive because of poverty
