Why The 2016 Election Is Different
The upcoming United States 2016 presidential election is different from previous elections in
many ways. First, the importance of money has decreased more than expected. It was believed
that the candidate with the most financial backing, had a larger advantage. According to Why the
2016 Election is Different , Gerald F. Seib explained how the financial front runner of the
republican bid, Governor Jeb Bush of Florida, ran an unsuccessful presidential campaign. Seib
also explained how Governor Scott Walker of Minnesota lost his presidential bid, while being
backed by a heavily funded super PAC. Money does not always determine a winner in the election
process. In my opinion, being financially supported is still key in running a successful campaign.

East Of Eden By John Steinbeck
John Steinbeck s novel, East of Eden , discloses the answer of right and wrong, good versus evil
and overcoming sin with a simple Hebrew word Timshel , meaning thou mayest, allowing us the
freedom to make our individual decisions or choose our path in life; it s actually God s perfect
gift to everyone. In the beginning, God grants us free will so that we have the ability to love and
accept him or not. However, had God not chosen to grant us free will, we would not be human as
we know it today, for the original sinwould never have occurred. Likewise, people s inability to
experience emotions of any kind, whatsoever, would turn us into mere mundane robots, forced to
listen and answer to an authoritarian God. Lee plays an instrumental part in East of Eden, by not
only bringing into focus Timshel and its meaning to the Trask family but through his strength and
character as a whole, for without Lee East of Eden and the concept of Timshel is non existent.
Lee s character in East of Eden commences when Adam and Cathy move to California and Adam
purchases land or his Garden in Eden as Adam refers to it. Lee described in the beginning as a
Chinaman sporting a queue and only speaking in pidgin. However, the more one discovers about
Lee in the book; the more one finds this is not the case at all. Lee is Chinese American, who is
extremely knowledgeable, well spoken, well read, insightful and thought provoking. He was born
in a railroad camp, where his mother disguised

Clothing In The Elizabethan Era
The Extravagant Elizabethan Era
Fashion has always been an important cultural aspect. Throughout history, what people have worn
has said much about their society s wealth, technological advances and values. However, during the
Renaissance the focus on what people wore became monumental and the era stands as a turning
point in attitude toward one s personal appearance. In fact, the Elizabethan age is arguably the time
when fashion became a form of artistic expression and clothing became increasingly important.
There were a multitude of influences on clothing choices in this powerful era, most notable was
the creative renaissance man, Henry VIII and the royal Queen Elizabeth I. In fact, there were
sumptuary laws made by them permitting people of different classes to wear only certain fabrics,
colors, or garments. For instance, peasants were confined to one color and one material while
queens, like Elizabeth I, wore extravagant jewels and garments of multiple colors. In addition to
Henry VIII and Elizabeth I contributions to fashion, there were new innovative minds coming into
play such as Catherine of Aragon, who introduced her intricate spanish blackwork embroidery and
the farthingale, an accessory that gave a distinct round barrel look to dresses. Furthermore, ... Show

Upholding the ideal look of beauty started becoming people s top priority. Thus, The supreme
desire in the elizabethan era was to create the model self image. Due to the broad range of options
and higher amount of materials that appeared because of textiles and increased interaction with
overseas countries, clothing that accentuated figures could be put into effect. Therefore, the
enthusiasm for fitted clothing increased. Moreover, new forms of media in the form of artwork
and the spread of mirrors made people start viewing themselves in comparison to others. These
influences all sparked the new flaming urge to pay closer attention to

New Negro
The Harlem Renaissance from 1919 to 1930 s was a time for United States to rapidly change,
especially with the rise of the generation we refer to as African Americans today. It was an era of
literature, an era of slavery, and an era that made the biggest impact in the history of United States.
The term Negro refers to someone of the black race or black ancestry and it defines as black in
Spanish and Portuguese. African Americanscholar Alain Locke defines the New Negro as an
outspoken advocacy of dignity and refusal to the law of Jim Crow racial segregation. Locke
popularized this term during the Harlem Renaissance. Leaders of the past and many people today

Senator John C. Calhoun sees the positives of slavery, I believe when two races come together
which have different origins, colors, and physical and intellectual characteristics, that slavery is,
instead of an evil, a good, a positive good. I believe that Senator Calhoun is referring to the
diversity of United States, where multiples races get together and share their unique backgrounds.
I agree with this statement because diversity is a huge part of United States and without it, I
believe the country wouldn t be as successful as it is today. Dr. Martin Luther King states, Anyone
who lives in the United States can never be considered an outsider anywhere in this country. He
has a similar opinion as Senator Calhoun. Both leaders believe that U.S. should welcome any race

Gambling Is Not Only A Fun And Social Activity
Gambling
In today s world, there are many different ways to gamble such as casinos, state lotteries, pull tabs,
bingo, sporting events and the internet just to name a few. Although the popularity of this activity
remains strong in America, there are individuals and groups that continue to scrutinize and attack
this industry. Those that are strongly opposed to gambling would like to see it policed by the
federal government or outlawed completely; I do not agree. Gambling is not only a fun and
social activity it also provides economic benefits. I believe it should be an individual s right, of
legal age, to decide if he or she should gamble based on his or her own personal beliefs and view
point. The history of gambling can be traced back as far back as ancient times. Dice have been
recovered in Egyptian tombs. The British colonization of America was partly financed through
lottery proceeds. There are several other cultures that have shown evidence of gambling. For
Native Americans, this was a spiritual experience as they believed their gods determined fate or
chance. This not only proves that gambling has been around for a long time it also illustrates that
it s multi cultural and can serve different purposes. In a world where there are many conflicts
gambling is something that people of different race, religion, ages and income can enjoy in a casino
side by side. According to a 2000 survey by national pollsters Perter Hart and Frank Luntz, more

Last Week Tonight By John Oliver
With an English accent and a smize, John Oliver hosts the show Last Week Tonight , which
features Oliver comedically attacking various people or organizations. With the use of rhetorical
devices and satire, John Oliver comically conveys various ideas regarding politics, faulty
companies, and beauty pageants. In explanation of his ideas, he frequently utilizes satirical
techniques and rhetorical devices such as reductio ad absurdum, incongruity, caricature,
invectiveness, false/weak analogies, and logos to explain his points.

In order to create a better understanding of the history of dialysis and healthcare, Oliver scholarly
explains, In 1972, something amazing happened. Richard Nixon...signed a bill into law which
said the government would pay for dialysis for anyone that needed it... In order to make his
explanations credible, Oliver incorporates facts which increases his logos and ethos. To expand
on the idea of the kidneys being the sole organ which obtains government funded healthcare, he
declares with a picture of kidneys sitting in the snow of Canada, Your kidneys, and only your
kidneys are Canadian! This statement is another example of incongruity; again, Oliver presents a
statement which is contrasts greatly from the current situation of which he is in. While he is
discussing the role government plays in dialysis, he delivers the idea of kidneys sitting in the
snow of Canada, which assists him in his argument of the government only providing healthcare
coverage of the kidneys. Just as the Times stated in their review of Oliver, [He] is willing to
voice genuine passion over his subjects , he voices his passionate displeasure towards Trump in
his President elect Trump segment. Oliver targets Trump on a specific debate in which he was
mistakenly unaware of the nuclear triad, and he critically reveals, The components of the nuclear

Singapore s Rapid Economic Development Essay
4 NEGATIVE IMPACT OF RAPID ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT 4.1 AGING POPULATION
Local and foreign labour are deemed essential to Singapore s workforce in order to sustain
competitiveness in economic development. However long standing past policy implication and
current policy taken by the Government to spur economic development, could be argued to affect
the labour market and SMEs in the long run. The past and current policies that might inflicted
negative impact to labour market and SMEs are elaborated as follow: 1) Curbing Singapore
growing population during early economic development is arguably the main factor leading to
Singapore lower birth rate. This argument has been supported by Asher (2008) saying Singapore

Supply of low skilled worker especially in non PMET market would be scarce especially for
domestic service industries driven by local SMEs. SMEs normally run with small capital would
face tougher business environment. SMEs would not be able to increase their productivity in a
shorter time as they could not leverage on technology. Eventually they would have to compromise
their service levels which in return force the consumers to adjust to uncertainty. The potential
growth of SMEs industry would be hampered which in return impede Singapore s economic
growth. According to Dr Chua Hak Bin, economist at Bank of Merrill Lynch, Singapore s tight
foreign labour policy could cost the economy 1.3% points of growth in 2014 which in the long run
degrade Singapore s competitive landscape with ailing domestic businesses. Besides dampening
local business competitiveness, ageing population and restricted foreign labour may lead to a lower
level of innovation. As productivity growth is associated with higher innovation and improving
technology, reports from high income OECD countries suggests that the median age of the
population is negatively correlated with total factor productivity (OECD, 2013). 4.2 BRAIN

A Dream Deferred By Langston Hughes Analysis
The True Meaning Behind A Dream Deferred
Every individual has a special dream or goal they wish to achieve, however in life there are
many instances where dreams have to be postpone because of dilemmas in one s life. Langston
Hughes was a popular African American poet, known for many of his literary pieces, most
notably A Dream Deferred . In which he uses tone, symbolism, and imagery to convey his
message about the hardships of African Americans in the 1950s. As a young boy and throughout
his life, Langston experienced countless instances of racial prejudice in school. However, this did
not stop him from pursuing a career as a poet, and he successfully published 16 poetry books and

Essay on The Lonely Death of Public Campaign Financing
Marquette University s Assistant Professor of Law, Richard Esenberg, is doubtful of the
effectiveness of a project that will restructure campaign finance. He foresees the near impossibility
of the passage of a bill, along with many drawbacks in similar attempts to miraculously restore
democracy to American citizens. Although this is a greatly debated and doubtful topic, there is
still hope in the power of the people. While there may be instances where wealthy donors provide a
better democratic election, in a land of the people; the majority of the voting population should
control the few politicians that run the government.
Esenberg s beginning argument relies strongly on the evidence that the money spent on campaign
finance is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this is only a small difference, it has major ramifications for the amount of money that is
desirable for donors to give. This, in effect, could mean that the idea of the limit itself is more
powerful than the actual limit set.
Esenberg goes on to reiterate that the Supreme Court s ruling on candidate fundraising; stating that
the ability for candidates to bring in donations is considered a legal advantage amongst candidates
(Esenberg, 2010). Limiting this ability would benefit the candidates that are not strong in gathering
donations. This is solely based on the communicating and networking factor of candidates.
Reducing the power of candidates would allow the media to have a greater impact on the public
donations (Esenberg, 2010). The small donors in the public are the ideologically committed union
members, which are currently having their influence felt through the donations of larger
corporations and Political Action Committees, debates Esenberg (Esenberg, 2010). Incumbents are
also the ones who create the campaign finance rules that govern the process, so he foresees the
unlikelihood of incumbents being willing to set rules that will make it harder to retain their seats
(Esenberg, 2010).
For this, the validity of the court s decision surrounding the Campaign Finance Reform Act must be
put into question. Corruption is the root of any ruling to

Travi$ Scott s highly anticipated debut album Rodeo was released Friday, Sept. 4th, and one of

It gives them love and they love it too. The next thing I want to say which explores Australians
unique ways of thinking is their belief in what is right or wrong no matter who is involved.
Because the house means everything to Australians people, they will do everything they can to
protect it. My fellow worker also director of The Castle , Rob Sitch has cleverly and effectively
used many film techniques to express this idea. Do you remember when Darryl and Dennis stand
in the Federal court? There is a big contrast between the underdog and the authorities. The close up
and the medium shots were taken to show his confidence in the facial expression and body
language. On the other hand, the low angel camera shot up to the judge emphasis the power of the
law. These both reveal Darryl s determination of battling even when he knows that he is fighting
against the government. By these techniques, it s clear to see that no matter how hard the situation
is, no matter how limited individuals ability is, Australians people will still be brave to stand up,
fight for their right and protect their family.
And, last but not least, the very important thing I have to tell you is Australians willingness to help
and fight for underdogs. Later in the movie, Hammil comes to Darryl and asks to help him to keep
the house. In the scene when they went to the High Court, the costume status has been

at Lumberton Elementary School. She is a new counselor this year with the elementary school.
A few years back, she was the counselor in the high school building. Mrs. Curthirds has been a
counselor for about 17 years now. Her main practice has been in school counseling, but she has
informed me that if she was younger she would have specialized in additional areas. She
encouraged me that while I am young to go ahead and specialize in something and avoid putting it
off like she did. I find it excellent that school counselors say with the profession so long... Show

She also realized that being in a classroom all day was not for her. When talking to Mrs.
Cruthirds you could clearly see she loved her job and was filled with so many stories about her
job. She seemed excited when talking about what she has done and still doing and has been
encouraging to me. She said that she believes that children generally do not care what you think
until they know and think that you care about them. This meaning that she is working to show
them that she cares so in turn they will care about themselves and the future too. She does what
every counselor does and that instills hope by showing you care. I like her belief or theory on
this. I want to be able to show children that I care about them and for them to know and believe
that they have someone that cares about them. I never realized until working in the school how
many kids feel like no one cares about them and when they realize someone does you can see the
light in their eyes. Mrs. Cruthirds talked about seeing the change in students as she began working
with them. She said that students fall to peer pressure most of the time, so when you start working
in groups with them or with their class as a whole you can see their thoughts changing on certain
topics along with behaviors. The therapeutic skill that she uses most with her student is keeping in
touch with them. Even when their problem has been solved she will call them in just to check in
and remind them that she is always there to talk if

Examples Of Idealism In All My Sons
Thus, Joe says to Chris that it is impossible to drive out from Kate s mind the notion that Larry is
still alive.
In the play, we find only one son Chris appearing physically, whereas Larry is merely referred to
because he is already dead by the time the play opens.
He says to Chris that he has done everything for Chris.
In fact, Joe Keller is mistakenly over concerned with his personal responsibility or his
responsibility towards his society or country as whole.
In All My Sons the character of Joe Keller has been presented by Miller with social and
psychological concerns.
Joe Keller s thinking was the outcome of social mischief.

Joe is the head of the Keller family, and the welfare of his family is his sole concern.
Another larger issue treated in All My Sons is related to the consideration of the relative
importance of personal responsibility and social responsibility.
An individual may be responsible to himself and his family; but he should also feel responsible
towards the society.
In owning the responsibility towards his family or his sons, which impels him to earn money by
dishonest means, Joe Keller seems to disown his social responsibility.
When Joe talks about his business and tells Chris that he committed the dishonest deed for him,
Chris retorts to him : The protagonist in this play is a manufacture or industrialist by the name of
Joe Keller.
Joe Keller belongs to the affluent class of society; and therefore he differs from the ordinary kind of
human beings who constitute the majority in every country.
As for outer conflict, we have a confrontation between Chris and his father over Chris s desire to
marry Annie who was engaged to marry Chris s brother,

This is The Wilderness Explosions in the Sky by Jacob van Loon
I particularly like this art piece because it is complex, contrasting, and portrays certain moods and
images.
To start, this painting was made by drawing many overlapping straight lines, and painting over it
with a lacquer, then he repeated this step several more times. He then filled each shape with blue
or orange watercolor paint. You can see where the paint leaks out in some places, this provides a
balanced ratio of geometric and abstract shapes. The blending also softens the contrast between the
two colors.
I ve concluded that the painting makes me think of an apocalypse now scenario. Its looks similar to
an office building with the sky reflecting off glass panes.

One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
The tone that I eventually used in One Hundred Years of Solitude was based on the way my
grandmother used to tell stories. She told things that sounded supernatural and fantastic but she
told them with complete naturalness.... What was most important was the expression she had on
her face. She did not change her expression at all when telling her stories and everyone was
surprised. In previous attempts to write, I tried to tell the story with out believing in it. I
discovered what I had to do was believe in them myself and write them with the same expression
with which my grandmother told them: with a brick face. (Garcia Marquez Magical Realism)

The author creates strange, unknown sentiments that we wouldn t normally experience in normal
life. The wonderful thing about magic realism is its reality. (Garcia Marquez Magical Realism)
Gabo s first novel came out in 1955. His most famous literary work is One Hundred Years of
Solitude, published in 1967. From that day on Gabo s fame has grown non stop. He has received
many awards. He was recognized world wide in 1982 when he was awarded the Nobel Prize.
At the conference for his award Gabo talked about a European explorer named Antonio Pigafetta.
This explorer lived during the colonization time and documented his experiences in Latin America.
He described supernatural and gross creatures. His accounts inspired Gabo.
Gabo takes events that could happen in real life and makes them appear magical. He does such a
good job of diminishing the line between reality and nonreality that the events described seem real.
There are many events that take place in One Hundred Years of Solitude that are good examples of
his style of magic realism.
An important event in the novel was the death of Jose Acardio Buendia. Then they went into Jose
Arcardio Buendia s room, shook him as hard as they could, shouted in his ear, put a mirror in front
of his nostrils, but they could not awaken him. A short time later, when the carpenter was taking

The Day Of The Camping Process
Everyone feels the need to get away from his complicated lives now and then. There is no better
way to simplify life than camping. Being unplugged from the busy world might be hard, but it is
well worth it. From the beginning to the end there are many excellent experiences and sensations
camping can provide to anyone.
The start of the camping process is the most difficult, but a crucial part none the less. Waking up
good and early, the room is filled with a bright, orange early sunrise light. The air is cool and crisp,
the faint sound of birds chirping enters through the window and the smell of breakfast passes the
through the doorway into the room. Throwing the checkered blanket aside and rising from the

The poles are made of a smooth, light metal and are surprisingly cold. Next comes folding the
actual tent. For the most part the tent feels kind of grainy, it is made mostly of a thin nylon
material but occasionally there is mesh window or a metal zipper. Placing the folded tent into
its brown cardboard box proves to because somewhat difficult as air was trapped inside while
folding it. Finding the zipper and pressing down on the tent releases the trapped air and the faint
smell of dust. Luckily most of the packing was done yesterday so all that is left is loading the
camping necessities into the bed of the very large, torch red truck. Blue and black leather bags
filled with all sorts of clothing, a cooler filled with food, a box with minor cooking utensils and
much more almost are loaded into one big colorful mess in the back of the truck. And with that it is
time to head off to the camp site.
With most of the tedious activities out of the way the real camping experience can begin. After a
long drive stepping out of the vehicle and being greeted by nature is a blessing. The sounds of
nature are music. Birds chirp a high pitch melody, animals rustle away through the brush and
bushes and swarms of bugs frantically fly around the camp site. Blowing wind shakes the trees and
carries a pure smell not commonly found in the city. No car exhaust or smoke in it, just the pure
smell of

Music Choices Affecting Driving Habits
Whether you take long trips regularly, or you simply drive back and forth to work, you likely
listen to music while you are driving. During this time, you may wonder, Can different music
choices affect your driving habits? Studies have looked at this question and found that your music
choices can influence how you drive. Negative Feelings Toward Song= Negative Driving
Experience When it comes to music, your feelings concerning the song can influence your driving.
In a UK study from 2013, eight people, four men and four women, each drove 500 miles. For the
first half of the trip, they did not listen to music at all. The second half of the trip, they all listened

For example, faster songs lead to more excitement, which can then cause the person to
concentrate on the song more than on the road. Along with that, a faster, upbeat tempo can
cause drivers to unconsciously speed up to match the song s beat. That does not mean slower
beats are ideal either. According to the study, slower songs can cause a person to relax too much,
thereby making the person less alert. The ideal driving song will have between 60 80 beats per
minute, which mimics the beat of the human heart. Looking at a few of the specific drivers in the
study, one women drove faster and engaged in last minute breaking when she was listening to hip
hop music. A male driver listening to a heavy metal playlist drove much faster than the other
drivers. While it might not be shocking to find that both of these genres negatively influenced
these drivers driving, many people might be surprised to learn that classical music actually caused
one male and one female driver to drive more erratically than when they were not listening to any
music at all. The Canadian

The Wars By Timothy Findley
According to Brandon Mull, the New York Times bestselling author of the Beyonoders series,
...heroism means doing the right thing regardless of the consequence (Mull 39). In The Wars by
Timothy Findley, the protagonist, Robert Ross, displays key characteristics of heroism throughout
his struggle to maintain his morality. In the novel, Robert displays an admiration for the sanctity of
life, a desire to achieve the greatest good, and a virtuous moralconscience which all contribute to
him achieving heroism in the face of adversity.
Throughout the novel, Robert displays his admiration for the sanctity of life of all sorts, whether
human or animal. Robert shared a loving relationship with his sister Rowena, whom he cared
deeply about. Early in the novel, we learn that Rowena was the first human being [Robert]
remembered seeing (Findley 14) and that their relationship escalated through the years to the
point where Robert became her guardian (14) due to the fact that she was immobilized by her
hydrocehpelia. We see through Robert s character that he has a heavy heart for his sister.
Rowena s sudden death early in the novel affects Robert s mindset as he grieves for her as he
continues on his life journey. In addition to human life, Robert shares an admiration for the
sanctity of animal life as well. Most notably, are Rowena s rabbits, which are set to be euthanized
after her death which Robert objects to. In his act of attempting to save the lives of the rabbits, he

Semiotics And Interactive Design Of Black And White Essay
Introduction
For my Annotated Research Kit, I have explored Black and White (colours), semiotics and
interactive design.
The first keyword I have explored is Black and White. This is an illustration style that I have up
until recently, been using in my studio work, and in my own personal practices as a graphic
designer. Black and White also fits in with the culture of today s younger generation, in which their
taste of visual style and graphic design preference fits in with my Black and White design style.
On a similar level, I used Black and White in an animation advertisement for the New Zealand
Safe Campaign. My intention of using a Black and White watercolour style was to make the
animation appear simple and appealing. I combined the idea of black and white with a watercolour
visual style to help bring about the sense of a natural and real animation story about the sad life of
pig farming today.
The second keyword I have explored is semiotics. Semiotics improves everyday life by simplifying
matters and information through the interpretation of simple icons. Without this, people s everyday
life would be much difficult than today as we naturally learn faster and better through visuals and
imagery.
My last keyword is interactive design, which is something that is always around us. From the way
we interact with computers to apps from the Apple store to accessing the ATM and reading an
online eBook.
Ultimately, interactive design is about finding a solution to a

Health Care Needs Of The World s Population Essay
The health care needs of the world s population are likely to undergo dramatic changes due to the
ongoing demographic transition. Non Communicable Diseases (NCD), such as diabetes, cancer,
depression and heart disease, are rapidly replacing infectious diseases and malnutrition as the
leading causes of morbidity mortality. Men and women are equally affected. Cancer,
Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD) and diabetes are becoming of serious concern, accounting for 52
% of deaths and 38 per % of disease burden in the South East Asia Region as reported by World
Health Organization (WHO). With the current trends, the top five causes of high morbidity and
mortality in 2020 are likely to be ischemic heart disease, unipolar major depression, road traffic
injuries, cerebrovascular diseases, and chronic obstructive lung disease.1 While mortality due to
communicable diseases is decreasing, for non communicable diseases it is rising at a very rapid
pace. The health policy makers are facing with the burden of providing resources for the control and
prevention of both the existing communicable diseases, and the increasing number of non
communicable diseases. This becomes difficult since the programmes for prevention and control of
communicable diseases drain the major resources. Therefore, India has faced a serious handicap
while planning and initiating programmes and activities to combat noncommunicable diseases,
including cardiovascular diseases.1 For Cardiovascular disease (CVD), in 2005,

Earthquake Experience Essay
My experience with massive earthquake.
3 years ago, I had experience of massive and repeated aftershock and tremor. It was Saturday in the
morning, it was official holiday of our nation. I and my family were living at the heart of
Kathmandu, a city full of historical monuments. It was unforgettable days for me. It was black day

gave me was to live life satisfyingly and prepare for what s coming.
During the period of incident, I was living in down floor apartment of four stored building with my
mother and sister. The house was recently built. The surrounding houses were old which were
built in primitive way. In Saturday, it was good sunny day and holiday we were having launch
with my mother and sister. My father was living in abroad. We all had plan for the holiday, I was
planning to meet my friend, my sister was having her board exam and shoe was more into study.
But before we move out of home, disastrous earthquake occurred.
At 10:56 am, we all family were together having launch. Suddenly, the earth shook and all the

could hear the sound of the ground, the house falling down, the screaming of people. Even after
minutes it earthquake started swaying and shaking like it has been intensely intoxicated. There was
no way to get out of house, as gate used to be locked as usual during turbulence.
After the earthquake, we moved outside the ground, many aged houses had turned into dust and
rubble hovering around the whole city. People alive inside the destroyed building were crying
for help and assistance. Seeing all the body covered with stone and brick made me cry as if I
was having a worst nightmare. The adrenaline rush began when I saw the people whom I used to
talk were buried inside the bricks and all I could see was their hands, legs. It was impossible to get
the body out from the ripped foundation.
When I took a glance at the surrounding, people were scrambled like a colony of ants, looking for

Bravery, a simple word that means so much. To speak up, even when it would be easier to be
quiet. There comes a time in all of our lives where we make a decision in a certain situation to do
the right thing even if we are scared of the consequence. I remember when I was in seventh grade I
had this friend, Amanda, that would get picked on by this bigger girl. Now, I know it is not up to me
to fight battles for others but bullyingis wrong. Amanda did not acknowledge this girl at all, and
usually the girl would just say mean things but one day it escalated. I guess the girl was tired of
being ignored so she decided to make a scene in front of everyone, and i was tired of my friend not
wanting to come to school because of this.
I decided it was time to do something. This girl was following Amanda in the hallway with her
finger pointed and her mouth scolding and everyone watching. I politely said, hey Jess, hows
your day? Are you ok? I do not think Amanda wants you in her face! She replies, she looks like
she wants me in her face. She slides a little closer to Amanda who is stuck in the corner. So I
slide in between them and let it be known that I was not moving and that she needed to leave
Amanda alone. Starting today we are officially all friends and friends do not treat people this way.

Rene Descartes God Analysis
In Descartes Discourse on Method and Meditations on First Philosophy, he explains the various
steps that should be taken in achieving genuine knowledge. Descartes rejects all beliefs in things
that are doubtable, and he then tries to unbiasedly reestablish what can be known for sure. One of
his most interesting argument is proving the existenceof God. He hoped to provide a way for
atheists, who demand a logical explanation in God s existence, to believe in God. His rules of
thought meant to ensure that our knowledge rests upon a firm foundation. Descartes believed in
God and also offered arguments for his existence. He claims that there are two types of ideas;
innate and fictitious (Descartes, 45), and the idea that God is invented is false. In defending his
stand, he starts off by stating that something cannot come from nothing. He explains that the idea
of God in him has an infinitive objective reality. However, the cause of an idea should have at
least as much formal reality as it has an objective reality. Therefore, God being an infinitive... Show

He explains that mathematical ideas such as triangles are certain and independent of his mind.
He realizes that he is just as certain about God as he is about the mathematical ideas. He asserts
that this is natural as the ideas of God are the only ideas that imply God s existence. God is
defined as an infinitely perfect being and since perfection includes existence, God exists. Descartes
presents a very convincing argument for the existence of God. I consider his work is remarkable in
the sense that he tries to provide a logical explanation for the existence of God, something that
even religious scholars don t attempt. I believe God exists and I support Descartes arguments.
Although, it is difficult to tell if Descartes was unbiased in his argument. I wonder if he would
have reached the same conclusion if he did not believe in God

Social media is used widely by many across the nation, it is very prevalent in the lives of today s

The frontal lobe of the brain helps individuals determine consequences from current actions, and it
also helps determine what is good or bad behavior. The development of the brain is lengthy and
reaches well into adulthood. This lengthy development explains the adolescents urges to seek out
new potentially dangerous situations and act impulsively.
Children have beliefs about alcohol, those beliefs are usually established by school age. School
age children generally believe alcohol is bad and understand the adverse effects of alcohol
however adolescents beliefs shift to a more positive view and adolescents who drink will express
the positive euphoric effects of alcohol.
Environmental factors also play a very large role in likeliness that adolescents will use alcohol.
Adolescents with parents and peers that use alcohol are more likely to view the use as acceptable.
Research is currently examining the impact of media as an environmental factor. (National Institute

Srebrenca Genocide Essay
In 1997, the world witnessed the second most horrific crime in eastern Europe since the
Holocaust: The Srebrenica massacre. Throughout the course of 11 days, over 8,000 Bosniak
Bosnian Muslim males, specifically those who were of age to join the military, were rounded up,
and killed by the Bosnian Serb army. The army s defense for their actions was that they were trying
to reunite Serb territory after the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovinabecame its own state. Despite
this claim, the ICTY still charged Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic, two of the men who
spearheaded the ethnic cleansing campaign in Bosnia, with war crimes including genocide.
However, scholars debate whether Srebrenica, albeit horrible, and other instances like itself, being
labeled a genocide is a misapplication of the term. Due to the technical legal definition of what
constitutes as a genocide, many crimes like Srebrenica that would morally be viewed as one, may
not be in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As defined by the UN, a genocide is the intentional destruction of a whole or part of a racial,
ethnical, or religious group. The problem people see with calling Srebrenica a genocide is the
intention behind the crime. According to William Schabas, author of Genocide in International
Law: The Crime of Crimes, prosecutors had to stretch the definition of genocide in order to prove
that Bosnia Serb leaders had intentions to eliminate Bosniaks. (M.S, Genocide) Although this may
be true, since their reason was to unify Serb land, we cannot disregard the fact that they used
ethnic cleansing to make this happen, which in turn eliminated Bosniaks from Srebrenica. Is it
then morally, and legally right to say that the ends justify the means in this case, in the sense that it
would not be considered a genocide? I would like to think not, especially with a crime that took
the lives of more than 8,000 people and displaced

Why The Foster System Is Ineffective
Why the Foster System is Ineffective Is the foster system really a good place for any person?
Most adolescents would have to deal with other adolescents always starting fights, degrading
you, and stealing your belongings. Adolescents in the foster care system turn to crime, have to
deal with depression, and deal with having no one to really trust. When I was in the system, I
was stabbed, I was shot, and constantly bullied; I hated each day of being in the foster system. I
saw everyday as a struggle with no one to turn to. The only peace I had was to read a book and
immerse myself into a make believe world. I believe the foster system is ineffective because
children in the foster system struggle through their experiences of group homes and foster homes.
First of all, children in the foster system have no one to turn to that they can truly trust. Most
children in the foster system do not trust many people because of the fact that many see that their
own parents ended leaving them. Some adolescents in the foster system saw therapists and social
workers as just being paid to listen to them and not actually help them with their problems. When I
was eight, I moved into a foster home and the foster parents had their own biological son that was
treated like a little angel, yet I got treated as someone that was unwanted in their home. The foster
parent s son would end up breaking something and blame it on me and when I would tell the foster
parents that it was their son

Effects Of Technology On Young Learner s Enthusiasm For...
Hollis s 1995 study focused on the effects of technology on young learner s enthusiasm for learning
science inside and outside of the classroom. This area of focus studied how implementing
technology to teach science concepts impacted student s motivation for learning science in the
classroom. The teacher researcher s study involves both teaching and learningas it focused on
properly training teachers how to use and implement technological tools and software. Once
teachers knew how to efficiently implement technologyinto their classrooms, they were able to
incorporate such technology as tools to enhance student s learning. Hollis (1995) notes today s
middle school students have grown up in a technological world with television, electronic toys,
video games, VCRs, cellular phones and more and they are accustomed to receiving and processing
information through multi sensory sources (p. 1).

Selling Foreign Products In The United States
I do agree with the statement. Selling foreign products in the United States promotes those
products over ones that are made in the US. Eventually as foreign products get sold more the
amount of similar products that are created in the United States will drop, and will cause jobs to
be lost. We can see how many jobs are being moved to other countries because they can make
products cheaper there. Today many people just want to get products at the cheapest price
possible, making these foreign products appealing for buyers. In some cases such as foreign cars,
the look of the cars can be more appealing to buyers, which brings up the sales of foreign cars, but
decreases the sales of cars made in the US. As the demand for local products such as

Raymond Carver Cathedral Essay
In the Cathedral, Raymond Carver tried to portray two different aspects of blindness; one is a
person who physically unable to see the world due to lack of eyes and other aspect concerns about
narrator s and his wife s blindness who are not blind physical but socially and emotionally. In this
story, there are various metaphors of blindness. One example of which is a blind person helping the
other person (who is not visually impaired) to draw cathedral even though he hasn t seen one.
Blindness is not a physical inability of a person; it s beyond than that. In the Cathedral, Robert
wasn t the one that was blind however, the narrator was blind. According to the narrator, blindness

Ability to see is the only thing that matters to the narrator and he didn t even try to see the things
beyond the surface, that s why he doesn t really know his wife well. Robert, on the other hand,
is the one who has the ability to see on a much deeper level than the narrator. In the story, the
only conversation happened between the narrator and his wife were mean trades in which the
narrator does minimal more than irritate her. Robert understands narrator s wife more
profoundly than the narrator despite the fact that Robert can t physically see narrator s wife.
Robert can feel the things by touching them. Robert did not let blindness define or limit him to
see with his eyes he found another way to visualize what the narrator was witnessing through his
other heightened senses (i.e. touch, movement) not inhibiting him as an individual. Robert was
able to make a picture of a thing or a person in his mind by simply touching it that s why he asked
to touch the face of narrator s wife. Even at the end, when the narrator was trying to describe a
cathedral to Robert, he asked the narrator to draw cathedral with him, so that Robert can
visualize cathedral by movement of his hand. Instead of Robert, the narrator was blinded by his
own thoughts. In the end of the story, He said, My eyes were still closed. I was in my house. I
knew that. But I didn t feel like I was inside anything. At the point where

Once the new product has been decided production and advertisement would be issued and a
further research on the new product would be necessary, so the company can see how successful
their predictions have become.
Market principles:
In marketing principles there are four main goals; * Understanding consumer needs companies
need to understand the market change extremely fast, if your company cannot keep up with the
new tend it would be easy to get eliminate by the market. Its essential for a business to keep an
eye out for what new product did the competitors bring in the recent time, because it would be a
waste of time and effort if they cannot produce a better price or quality than their competitor s
product. For instants CDs players and walkman are getting replace by mp3 player and iPods,
therefore there would be no point producing another CD player when there wouldn t be anyone
buying it. * Keeping ahead of competition its important for a company to keep on top of their
competitors because as i have mention in the Understanding consumer needs it would be pointless
to product a product which can not beat your competitors excising products. * Communicating
effectively with consumers just because a company can come up with a product that can satisfy all
the needs of the consumers, it still wouldn t guarantee its going to be a successful product. If

Mythological Archetypes
Mythological archetypes are the elements of which myths develop. A Scheme according to which a
model of myth is collected from an archetypal constructor is universal and is called monomyth.
(reference) But as actors change in different mythological histories, circumstances, then the variety
of details of narration became very bright and can be seen instantly, and the similarity of the canvas
remains unnoticed. According to Jung, the archetypes evolved in the course of evolution like
internal organs. Invisible to the eye, they are always with us, but as psychic organs. Archetypes are
imprinted in culture, art, and religion. Mythological heroes during their journey behind the quest for

some of the tragic events, from the beginning of Hitler s dictatorship, and the fall of the Nazi

Plastic Surgery Is Not Always Evil
Is Plastic Surgery a helpful tool to modify your body in order to feel confident or just another
deadly weapon? Throughout the years, the word Perfect has caused a war between people and
their physical image causing them to make an outrageous decision of changing how they look and
feel, not only on the outside but also on the inside. They undergo many operations just to please
others. Just like a Ying Yang symbol; there s always bad in good, vice versus. Plastic surgery
is not
always evil. For example, a young girl had gotten in a tragic fire accident which left her with a
massive scar on her face and body, this is where Plastic Surgery would be a useful tool. It would
not only fix this girl s face but it would also bring happiness and not to be teased and stared at
everywhere she goes. Or if women were to successfully fought breast Cancer but was only left
with scars where her breast should be, this kind of operation would help this woman bring
confidence in who she was. These procedures with not only get rid of traumatizing scars but also
of horrible memories of how they got them. Walter Yeo, a British sailor during World War I, is
often cited as the first known person to have benefited from plastic surgery.
Walter sustained terrible facial injuries, including the loss of his upper and lower eyelids, while
manning the guns aboard the HMS Warspite in 1916 during the Battle of Jutland.

During the 11th Century, the lordstarted recruiting middle class freeman with actual skills. These

Around 90% of Medieval Europeans were peasants who worked as farmers. Peasants lived in
village of about 100 to 300 people, in a one of two roomed hut located around the village green or
along the villages dirt road. Village were usually near a river or stream because it then provided
them with a source of fresh water and fish. The villages and the land around them were called
manors. Manors varied in size from about 900 to 3000 hectares and were owned by a lord. The
lord had his own farming area which was around one third of the total area, this was known as
demesne. The villagers then farmed the rest of the land.
Women in Medieval times were totally controlled by the males of their family. They were expected
to obey their father, brothers or any other male members. If a woman was to be disobedient, she
would be beaten and was seen as a crime against religion. It was important for women to learn how
to use weapons so they could protect their homes when the men of the family were away. Some
medieval women held other jobs. There were women blacksmiths, merchants and apothecaries.
Others were midwives, workers in the fields, or spent their time writing, playing musical

A Modest Proposal Rhetorical Devices
The Rape of the Lock , written by Alexander Pope, and A Modest Proposal , written by Jonathan
Swift, are both pieces that are well known for being satires. A satire is a piece of literature that uses
irony and comical devices to get a point across to its audience. The Rape of the Lock and A Modest
Proposalmay both be satires, but they both have very different methods of delivery and
execution. I believe that A Modest Proposal is more effective in its mode of attack. It is more
vicious and scornful as opposed to The Rape of the Lock . This vicious nature helps get the point
across more easily, by stirring up the people. Also, Juvenalian Satireusually attacks a more serious
matter, as this is the case when comparing A Modest Proposal... Show more content on

This form of satire is more mild in nature, and is often used to arouse amusement in people. In
this piece, Pope uses a story about a woman who gets a lock of her hair chopped off to ridicule
social pretension and vanity. Although this form of satire is not as harsh as Juvenalian satire, it
is much easier to interpret, and not to be taken so seriously. This however, can make the point
seem less serious, as it will be addressed in a comical way. However, this poem is effective in its
own way at getting its point across. One of the important elements that speaks in the poem is the
speech made by the character Clarissa. In her speech, she questions why a society that places
emphasis on beauty in women cannot emphasise good humor. This speech is often interpreted at
the main moral of the story, that people often react too much to silly things, like losing a lock of
hair. For this type of topic, this form of satire works very well, as harsh ridicule is not needed to

  • 2. Why The 2016 Election Is Different The upcoming United States 2016 presidential election is different from previous elections in many ways. First, the importance of money has decreased more than expected. It was believed that the candidate with the most financial backing, had a larger advantage. According to Why the 2016 Election is Different , Gerald F. Seib explained how the financial front runner of the republican bid, Governor Jeb Bush of Florida, ran an unsuccessful presidential campaign. Seib also explained how Governor Scott Walker of Minnesota lost his presidential bid, while being backed by a heavily funded super PAC. Money does not always determine a winner in the election process. In my opinion, being financially supported is still key in running a successful campaign. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. East Of Eden By John Steinbeck John Steinbeck s novel, East of Eden , discloses the answer of right and wrong, good versus evil and overcoming sin with a simple Hebrew word Timshel , meaning thou mayest, allowing us the freedom to make our individual decisions or choose our path in life; it s actually God s perfect gift to everyone. In the beginning, God grants us free will so that we have the ability to love and accept him or not. However, had God not chosen to grant us free will, we would not be human as we know it today, for the original sinwould never have occurred. Likewise, people s inability to experience emotions of any kind, whatsoever, would turn us into mere mundane robots, forced to listen and answer to an authoritarian God. Lee plays an instrumental part in East of Eden, by not only bringing into focus Timshel and its meaning to the Trask family but through his strength and character as a whole, for without Lee East of Eden and the concept of Timshel is non existent. Lee s character in East of Eden commences when Adam and Cathy move to California and Adam purchases land or his Garden in Eden as Adam refers to it. Lee described in the beginning as a Chinaman sporting a queue and only speaking in pidgin. However, the more one discovers about Lee in the book; the more one finds this is not the case at all. Lee is Chinese American, who is extremely knowledgeable, well spoken, well read, insightful and thought provoking. He was born in a railroad camp, where his mother disguised ... • 4. Clothing In The Elizabethan Era The Extravagant Elizabethan Era Fashion has always been an important cultural aspect. Throughout history, what people have worn has said much about their society s wealth, technological advances and values. However, during the Renaissance the focus on what people wore became monumental and the era stands as a turning point in attitude toward one s personal appearance. In fact, the Elizabethan age is arguably the time when fashion became a form of artistic expression and clothing became increasingly important. There were a multitude of influences on clothing choices in this powerful era, most notable was the creative renaissance man, Henry VIII and the royal Queen Elizabeth I. In fact, there were sumptuary laws made by them permitting people of different classes to wear only certain fabrics, colors, or garments. For instance, peasants were confined to one color and one material while queens, like Elizabeth I, wore extravagant jewels and garments of multiple colors. In addition to Henry VIII and Elizabeth I contributions to fashion, there were new innovative minds coming into play such as Catherine of Aragon, who introduced her intricate spanish blackwork embroidery and the farthingale, an accessory that gave a distinct round barrel look to dresses. Furthermore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Upholding the ideal look of beauty started becoming people s top priority. Due to the broad range of options and higher amount of materials that appeared because of textiles and increased interaction with overseas countries, clothing that accentuated figures could be put into effect. Therefore, the enthusiasm for fitted clothing increased. Moreover, new forms of media in the form of artwork and the spread of mirrors made people start viewing themselves in comparison to others. The term Negro refers to someone of the black race or black ancestry and it defines as black in Spanish and Portuguese. I agree with this statement because diversity is a huge part of United States and without it, I believe the country wouldn t be as successful as it is today. • 6. Gambling Is Not Only A Fun And Social Activity Gambling In today s world, there are many different ways to gamble such as casinos, state lotteries, pull tabs, bingo, sporting events and the internet just to name a few. Although the popularity of this activity remains strong in America, there are individuals and groups that continue to scrutinize and attack this industry. Those that are strongly opposed to gambling would like to see it policed by the federal government or outlawed completely; I do not agree. Gambling is not only a fun and social activity it also provides economic benefits. I believe it should be an individual s right, of legal age, to decide if he or she should gamble based on his or her own personal beliefs and view point. The history of gambling can be traced back as far back as ancient times. Dice have been recovered in Egyptian tombs. The British colonization of America was partly financed through lottery proceeds. There are several other cultures that have shown evidence of gambling. For Native Americans, this was a spiritual experience as they believed their gods determined fate or chance. This not only proves that gambling has been around for a long time it also illustrates that it s multi cultural and can serve different purposes. In a world where there are many conflicts gambling is something that people of different race, religion, ages and income can enjoy in a casino side by side. According to a 2000 survey by national pollsters Perter Hart and Frank Luntz, more than 94% of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the use of rhetorical devices and satire, John Oliver comically conveys various ideas regarding politics, faulty companies, and beauty pageants. In explanation of his ideas, he frequently utilizes satirical techniques and rhetorical devices such as reductio ad absurdum, incongruity, caricature, invectiveness, false/weak analogies, and logos to explain his points. In order to make his explanations credible, Oliver incorporates facts which increases his logos and ethos. To expand on the idea of the kidneys being the sole organ which obtains government funded healthcare, he declares with a picture of kidneys sitting in the snow of Canada, Your kidneys, and only your kidneys are Canadian! This statement is another example of incongruity; again, Oliver presents a statement which is contrasts greatly from the current situation of which he is in. While he is discussing the role government plays in dialysis, he delivers the idea of kidneys sitting in the snow of Canada, which assists him in his argument of the government only providing healthcare coverage of the kidneys. Just as the Times stated in their review of Oliver, [He] is willing to voice genuine passion over his subjects , he voices his passionate displeasure towards Trump in his President elect Trump segment. Singapore s Rapid Economic Development Essay 4 NEGATIVE IMPACT OF RAPID ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT 4.1 AGING POPULATION Local and foreign labour are deemed essential to Singapore s workforce in order to sustain competitiveness in economic development. However long standing past policy implication and current policy taken by the Government to spur economic development, could be argued to affect the labour market and SMEs in the long run. The past and current policies that might inflicted negative impact to labour market and SMEs are elaborated as follow: 1) Curbing Singapore growing population during early economic development is arguably the main factor leading to Singapore lower birth rate. Supply of low skilled worker especially in non PMET market would be scarce especially for domestic service industries driven by local SMEs. SMEs normally run with small capital would face tougher business environment. SMEs would not be able to increase their productivity in a shorter time as they could not leverage on technology. Eventually they would have to compromise their service levels which in return force the consumers to adjust to uncertainty. The potential growth of SMEs industry would be hampered which in return impede Singapore s economic growth. According to Dr Chua Hak Bin, economist at Bank of Merrill Lynch, Singapore s tight foreign labour policy could cost the economy 1.3% points of growth in 2014 which in the long run degrade Singapore s competitive landscape with ailing domestic businesses. Besides dampening local business competitiveness, ageing population and restricted foreign labour may lead to a lower level of innovation. As productivity growth is associated with higher innovation and improving technology, reports from high income OECD countries suggests that the median age of the population is negatively correlated with total factor productivity (OECD, 2013). 4.2 BRAIN DRAIN Past policy of tailoring education to manpower has contributed its fair share to Singapore s economic development. Essay on The Lonely Death of Public Campaign Financing Marquette University s Assistant Professor of Law, Richard Esenberg, is doubtful of the effectiveness of a project that will restructure campaign finance. He foresees the near impossibility of the passage of a bill, along with many drawbacks in similar attempts to miraculously restore democracy to American citizens. Although this is a greatly debated and doubtful topic, there is still hope in the power of the people. While there may be instances where wealthy donors provide a better democratic election, in a land of the people; the majority of the voting population should control the few politicians that run the government. Although this is only a small difference, it has major ramifications for the amount of money that is desirable for donors to give. This, in effect, could mean that the idea of the limit itself is more powerful than the actual limit set. Esenberg goes on to reiterate that the Supreme Court s ruling on candidate fundraising; stating that the ability for candidates to bring in donations is considered a legal advantage amongst candidates (Esenberg, 2010). Limiting this ability would benefit the candidates that are not strong in gathering donations. This is solely based on the communicating and networking factor of candidates. Reducing the power of candidates would allow the media to have a greater impact on the public donations (Esenberg, 2010). The small donors in the public are the ideologically committed union members, which are currently having their influence felt through the donations of larger corporations and Political Action Committees, debates Esenberg (Esenberg, 2010). Incumbents are also the ones who create the campaign finance rules that govern the process, so he foresees the unlikelihood of incumbents being willing to set rules that will make it harder to retain their seats (Esenberg, 2010). For this, the validity of the court s decision surrounding the Campaign Finance Reform Act must be put into question. Corruption is the root of any ruling to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I m invited to be here and tell you about this movie as well as how I and my team have built up and shown the ideas about the voice of Australians through it. As you know, everyone including Australians have their own way of understanding and an opinion of the world and people in it. That s called their voice . However, the way Australians view and understand the world is unique. Let s come back to The Castle , this is a story about the Kerrigan family who together stand up to fight against the government for their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It gives them love and they love it too. The next thing I want to say which explores Australians unique ways of thinking is their belief in what is right or wrong no matter who is involved. Because the house means everything to Australians people, they will do everything they can to protect it. My fellow worker also director of The Castle , Rob Sitch has cleverly and effectively used many film techniques to express this idea. Do you remember when Darryl and Dennis stand in the Federal court? There is a big contrast between the underdog and the authorities. The close up and the medium shots were taken to show his confidence in the facial expression and body language. On the other hand, the low angel camera shot up to the judge emphasis the power of the law. These both reveal Darryl s determination of battling even when he knows that he is fighting against the government. By these techniques, it s clear to see that no matter how hard the situation is, no matter how limited individuals ability is, Australians people will still be brave to stand up, fight for their right and protect their family. And, last but not least, the very important thing I have to tell you is Australians willingness to help and fight for underdogs. Later in the movie, Hammil comes to Darryl and asks to help him to keep the house. In the scene when they went to the High Court, the costume status has been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this gathering place, where violence is rife, at the boundary of that which escapes cohesion, he who reflects within cohesion realizes that there is no longer any room for him (Theory of Religion 10). It executes Bataille s need to express through his writings what could not be contained by the cultural system within which he lived and worked, and it expresses his need to recognize the existence of what the system cannot contain the vision of that other eye out of which he looks at the world. Thus rather than dismiss this text as juvenile or adolescent writing, readers should be aware of it as an early declaration of identity formation, one affected by actual events in his life and, although overwhelmingly privileging his sexual obsessions, one which contains nevertheless the core of his thinking. In Bataille s profession of librarianship, cataloging or classification of material becomes obsessive to the extent that every item within a collection must have a named place or it cannot have a place in the collection, for only by being inserted into a named placed within a system can an object be curated or cared for. Bataille captures the intention of this systematizing in his Documents essay on The Use Value of D.A.F. de Sade when he writes: the work of philosophy as well as science or common sense ...has always had as its goal the establishment of the homogeneity of the world [through]...the identification of all the elements of which the world is composed (Visions 96). I am currently doing my practicum with Mrs. Curthirds at Lumberton Elementary School. She is a new counselor this year with the elementary school. A few years back, she was the counselor in the high school building. Mrs. Curthirds has been a counselor for about 17 years now. Her main practice has been in school counseling, but she has informed me that if she was younger she would have specialized in additional areas. She said that she believes that children generally do not care what you think until they know and think that you care about them. This meaning that she is working to show them that she cares so in turn they will care about themselves and the future too. She does what every counselor does and that instills hope by showing you care. I like her belief or theory on this. I want to be able to show children that I care about them and for them to know and believe that they have someone that cares about them. I never realized until working in the school how many kids feel like no one cares about them and when they realize someone does you can see the light in their eyes. Mrs. Cruthirds talked about seeing the change in students as she began working with them. She said that students fall to peer pressure most of the time, so when you start working in groups with them or with their class as a whole you can see their thoughts changing on certain topics along with behaviors. He does such a good job of diminishing the line between reality and nonreality that the events described seem real. • 33. Semiotics And Interactive Design Of Black And White Essay Introduction For my Annotated Research Kit, I have explored Black and White (colours), semiotics and interactive design. The first keyword I have explored is Black and White. This is an illustration style that I have up until recently, been using in my studio work, and in my own personal practices as a graphic designer. Black and White also fits in with the culture of today s younger generation, in which their taste of visual style and graphic design preference fits in with my Black and White design style. On a similar level, I used Black and White in an animation advertisement for the New Zealand Safe Campaign. My intention of using a Black and White watercolour style was to make the animation appear simple and appealing. I combined the idea of black and white with a watercolour visual style to help bring about the sense of a natural and real animation story about the sad life of pig farming today. The second keyword I have explored is semiotics. Semiotics improves everyday life by simplifying matters and information through the interpretation of simple icons. Without this, people s everyday life would be much difficult than today as we naturally learn faster and better through visuals and imagery. My last keyword is interactive design, which is something that is always around us. From the way we interact with computers to apps from the Apple store to accessing the ATM and reading an online eBook. Ultimately, interactive design is about finding a solution to a ... Non Communicable Diseases (NCD), such as diabetes, cancer, depression and heart disease, are rapidly replacing infectious diseases and malnutrition as the leading causes of morbidity mortality. Men and women are equally affected. Cancer, Cardiovascular Diseases (CVD) and diabetes are becoming of serious concern, accounting for 52 % of deaths and 38 per % of disease burden in the South East Asia Region as reported by World Health Organization (WHO). With the current trends, the top five causes of high morbidity and mortality in 2020 are likely to be ischemic heart disease, unipolar major depression, road traffic injuries, cerebrovascular diseases, and chronic obstructive lung disease.1 While mortality due to communicable diseases is decreasing, for non communicable diseases it is rising at a very rapid pace. The health policy makers are facing with the burden of providing resources for the control and prevention of both the existing communicable diseases, and the increasing number of non communicable diseases. This becomes difficult since the programmes for prevention and control of communicable diseases drain the major resources. Therefore, India has faced a serious handicap while planning and initiating programmes and activities to combat noncommunicable diseases, including cardiovascular diseases.1 For Cardiovascular disease (CVD), in 2005, ... • 38. Amanda Monologue Bravery, a simple word that means so much. To speak up, even when it would be easier to be quiet. There comes a time in all of our lives where we make a decision in a certain situation to do the right thing even if we are scared of the consequence. I remember when I was in seventh grade I had this friend, Amanda, that would get picked on by this bigger girl. Now, I know it is not up to me to fight battles for others but bullyingis wrong. Amanda did not acknowledge this girl at all, and usually the girl would just say mean things but one day it escalated. I guess the girl was tired of being ignored so she decided to make a scene in front of everyone, and i was tired of my friend not wanting to come to school because of this. I decided it was time to do something. This girl was following Amanda in the hallway with her finger pointed and her mouth scolding and everyone watching. I politely said, hey Jess, hows your day? Are you ok? I do not think Amanda wants you in her face! She replies, she looks like she wants me in her face. She slides a little closer to Amanda who is stuck in the corner. So I slide in between them and let it be known that I was not moving and that she needed to leave Amanda alone. Starting today we are officially all friends and friends do not treat people this way. She replied, what makes you think I want to be y alls friend? I said, well you sure hang around us alot and you have taken an interest in Amanda, and I ve never seen you with friends so maybe we could start over? That finally got her to walk away.... • 39. Rene Descartes God Analysis In Descartes Discourse on Method and Meditations on First Philosophy, he explains the various steps that should be taken in achieving genuine knowledge. Descartes rejects all beliefs in things that are doubtable, and he then tries to unbiasedly reestablish what can be known for sure. One of his most interesting argument is proving the existenceof God. He hoped to provide a way for atheists, who demand a logical explanation in God s existence, to believe in God. His rules of thought meant to ensure that our knowledge rests upon a firm foundation. Descartes believed in God and also offered arguments for his existence. He claims that there are two types of ideas; innate and fictitious (Descartes, 45), and the idea that God is invented is false. In defending his stand, he starts off by stating that something cannot come from nothing. He explains that the idea of God in him has an infinitive objective reality. However, the cause of an idea should have at least as much formal reality as it has an objective reality. Therefore, God being an infinitive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He explains that mathematical ideas such as triangles are certain and independent of his mind. He realizes that he is just as certain about God as he is about the mathematical ideas. Descartes presents a very convincing argument for the existence of God. I consider his work is remarkable in the sense that he tries to provide a logical explanation for the existence of God, something that even religious scholars don t attempt. I believe God exists and I support Descartes arguments. Although, it is difficult to tell if Descartes was unbiased in his argument. Throughout the course of 11 days, over 8,000 Bosniak Bosnian Muslim males, specifically those who were of age to join the military, were rounded up, and killed by the Bosnian Serb army. The army s defense for their actions was that they were trying to reunite Serb territory after the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovinabecame its own state. Despite this claim, the ICTY still charged Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic, two of the men who spearheaded the ethnic cleansing campaign in Bosnia, with war crimes including genocide. Most adolescents would have to deal with other adolescents always starting fights, degrading you, and stealing your belongings. Adolescents in the foster care system turn to crime, have to deal with depression, and deal with having no one to really trust. When I was in the system, I was stabbed, I was shot, and constantly bullied; I hated each day of being in the foster system. I saw everyday as a struggle with no one to turn to. The only peace I had was to read a book and immerse myself into a make believe world. I believe the foster system is ineffective because children in the foster system struggle through their experiences of group homes and foster homes. First of all, children in the foster system have no one to turn to that they can truly trust. Most children in the foster system do not trust many people because of the fact that many see that their own parents ended leaving them. Some adolescents in the foster system saw therapists and social workers as just being paid to listen to them and not actually help them with their problems. When I was eight, I moved into a foster home and the foster parents had their own biological son that was treated like a little angel, yet I got treated as someone that was unwanted in their home.
