Purposes For Conducting Qualitative Research
Purposes for Conducting Qualitative Research
There are four major purposes for conducting qualitative research. They are exploratory, explanatory,
descriptive and emancipatory.
The purpose of exploratory qualitative research is to investigate little understood phenomenon, to
identify or discover important categories of meaning and to generate hypotheses for future research.
The purpose of explanatory qualitative research is to explain patterns related to the phenomenon being
studied and to identify plausible relationships shaping the phenomenon.
The purpose of descriptive qualitative research is to describe and document phenomena.
The purpose of emancipatory qualitative research is to create opportunities and the will to engage in
social action.
Step 1: Develop a theoretical and conceptual understanding of the phenomenon being studied; which
includes performing background research on the theoretical foundations of the phenomenon and
researching research conducted on the phenomenon s field. This step involves making sure one fully
understands the topic. One should have a clear understanding of the topic before moving further into
the next step. A significant amount of research of the topic should be done to develop a clear
understanding of the topic and how to approach finding background information in regards to what is
being discussed. For example, with the topic of social media and college students, one should
understand what social media is, how and why it is used, and

The Duchess Of Malfi Masculinity
How does time periods like Renaissance, Restoration, and the Eighteenth Century interact with
masculinity? Renaissance, Restoration, and the Eighteenth Century shows us that masculinity can be
portrayed as having power or they can be seen as getting overpowered by femininity. In these different
time periods it is noticeable that men are not the only individuals that is considered to be smart and
they are not the only ones who can maintain power. Also, within these time periods women do not
always submit themselves to the men. By looking at the Renaissance, Restoration, and Eighteenth
Century time periods masculinity roles shifts from men claiming their supremacy by being
overbearing, dominant, and selfish to getting tricked and manipulated by women so that power can be
seen as being equal within genders or completely taken by women. In the Duchess of Malfi
masculinity is constructed as maintaining power by being overbearing and selfish. The brothers
Ferdinand and Cardinal was overbearing and selfish when it came down to their sister love life.
Ferdinand and Cardinal tried to dictate their sister by telling her that she cannot become another man s
wife. The brothers does not want their sister to remarry again because they think she would be seen as
lustful. He and his brother are like plum trees that grow crooked over standing pools; they are rich and
o erladen with fruit but none but crows, pies, and caterpillars feed on them (46 48). This shows that
the brothers wealth

Intelligence Vs Growth Mindset
Although many with a fixed mindset believe that intelligence is determined at birth, research has
shown how the brain can be developed to ultimately make someone become smarter, instantly
favoring those with a growth mindset. The way a person with a fixed mindset feels about something
like accepting feedback and constructive criticism absolutely differs from the way one with a growth
mindset would feel. Those with a fixed mindset feel threatened by feedback and may avoid it
altogether if possible due to thinking that they ll never become better ( Effective Effort Rubric )
(Knapp). On the contrary, those with a growth mindset are motivated by feedback and criticism,
thinking of it as a crucial element in the learning process( Effective Effort ... Show more content on

Brain researchers have found evidence that the way a person thinks with a growth mindset actually
helps to develop their intelligence and become smarter. Scientists have formed the conclusion after
studying the brains of animals and infants that the brain s neurons multiply, get stronger, and take in
new information after being mentally challenged ( You Can Grow Your Intelligence )(Knapp). This
leads to an increased growth of dendrites that helps to speed up how fast information travels, further
leading to a faster learning process and eventually resulting to an improved intelligence. Common
habits of those with a growth mindset, like focusing on learning, practicing, and challenging
themselves mentally, is exactly what is needed to strengthen the brain. Doing things along with having
a growth mindset, like getting enough sleep, eating nutritional foods and exercising regularly, can also
lead to an improved intelligence. Having a growth mindset is ones choice, but it can overall help them
to become more successful and intelligent in life. From getting that A on a test to being better at a job,
there are endless possibilities that can result by having a growth

The Establishment Clause
The First Amendment to the United States Constitution states Congress shall make no law respecting
an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of
speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the
government for a redress of grievances (U.S. Const. amend. I). The Establishment Clause which
derives from Congress shall pass no law respecting an establishment of religion was added to secure
that state and church would be separate. In the 1971 the landmark case Lemon v. Kurtzman was heard
by the Supreme Court and questioned Do statutes that provide state funding for non public, non

Constitution left education powers to the States and this is evident in the opening Article of the Florida
Constitution where it states The state board of education shall be a body corporate and have such
supervision of the system of free public education as is provided by law. The state board of education
shall consist of seven members appointed by the governor to staggered 4 year terms, subject to
confirmation by the senate. The state board of education shall appoint the commissioner of education
(Art IX, § 2(a), Fla. Const.).
Current Issues in Education As previously states the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution
upholds our founding fathers views of everyone being created equal, despite ones race, color, gender,
sexuality, nationality, or sexual orientation. There are several issues we see today in our schools. An
example would be the bathroom policy for transgender students. This was seen in Students and
Parents for Privacy v. Unites States of Education. The case questioned whether the Department of
Education and Township of High School District 211 could make students use the restroom and locks

A Worn Path Phoenix Jackson Character Analysis
Leslie Mosley
Amy LaPalme
English 102
8 February 2015
Phoenix Jackson: Rising from the Ashes Many authors incorporate mythological creatures in stories to
represent the virtues and vices of their lead characters. Eudora Welty s character Phoenix Jackson
symbolizes resurrection in A Worn Path, and therefore identifies with the legendary phoenix. The
Encyclopedia Britannica describes the phoenix, as large as an eagle, with brilliant scarlet and gold
plumage and a melodious cry. Only one phoenix existed at any time, and it was very long lived, and at
the end of the bird s lifespan it would catch fire for a new phoenix to rise from the ashes ( phoenix ).
Phoenix Jackson is an old Negro woman that is making a difficult journey including both physical and
mental challenges; she overcomes these trials as a result of her unconditional love for her grandson
(Welty 314). She has a similar physical appearance to the mystical phoenix with a red rag tied around
her head and, a golden color ran ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her skin is described as having, a pattern all its own of numberless branching wrinkles and as though
a whole little tree stood in the middle of her forehead which is indicative of her old age (Welty 314).
Phoenix is also strong and courageous like the phoenix making a trip that is difficult for her physical
condition, but she endures the journey to help comfort her grandson. The physical appearance of the
phoenix is merged into the main character and, the aspect of rebirth is mentioned at the end of story.
Phoenix is paralyzed with exhaustion and unable to speak after her long trip until the nurse mentions
her grandson then, a flicker and then a flame comes across her face; she is reborn and able to make the
trip back to her beloved grandson. Phoenix Jackson rises up against all the odds for the person she
loves the most, and proves true love does conquer

Plant Growth Of The Brassica Rapa
Background There is a drought in California which is in turn affecting the number of crops that can be
grown in a given amount of time. Farmers now must find a way to grow crops in an economical
fashion while also maximizing each yield as much as possible. However, plant growth can be
influenced by seed variety, the amount of water, the soil type, amount of light, etc., and many other
variables. For this experiment, we are testing the growth of the Brassica rapa, a mustard plant under
the same conditions of water, sunlight, and oxygen, with two different treatment solutions. There will
be two pots, one has a treatment of just deionized water and the other a treatment of fertilizer as well
as deionized water. Because the fertilizer has the added benefit of nitrogen, phosphorous, and
potassium along with the same quantity of deionized water as the first pot, it is hypothesized that both
sets of plants will grow, however the pot with fertilizer will grow more than the pot with just water
treatment. In the Fertilizer Responses of Volunteer Longleaf Pine Trees within a Loblolly Pine
Plantation: Separating Direct Effects from Competition Effects paper, an experiment on the effect of
fertilization on two trees was done. Before the experiment was initiated, it was known that fertilization
increases the growth and productivity of the loblolly pine tree, while it was hypothesized that the
longleaf pine tree is less responsive to fertilization (Anderson, 2009). The results of the

No! I m not going to take a lower salary and let you have it all on Oswald! I m done with this

Relations Between the US and Italy Between 1952 1954
The Communist Problem
The cold war loss of Italy to Communist control would result in profound political, psychological and
military damage to the free world (p.1567)

After the end of World War II the United States embarked on years of an uneasy alliance with Italy.
The recovering Italian Fascist government was highly unstable and looked as though it could fall into
Communist hands at any moment. The United States through mostly financial means chose to support

This created an extremely volatile political environment Italy which consisted of a virtual plethora of
viable political parties including the dominant United States backed and funded Christian Democrats
and the Partitio Communista Italiano also known as the PCI. There was a strong conflict of interest
that arose between the formal antifascist constitution and the material one imposed being imposed on
them by the escalating international situation. On one side there was the pro Western stance of the
main Italian governing party, the Christian Democrats and on the other side they were faced with the
PCI s dependency on the Soviet Union, these issues were soon to become the major boiling points of
the Italian republic. The PCI s alliance with the Soviet Union provided them with resources much
need by the PCI and much maligned by the United States as stated in this dispatch from the Director
of Western European Affairs in Feb. of 1952, The Communist Party apparently has unlimited funds to
finance its activities and is becoming increasingly active in the South. (p.1572) In a way Italy was
attempting to be seen as a country bridging the ever widening gap between the United States and the
Soviet Union. The Italian government in 1952 was under the rule of Christian Democrat premier,
Alcide De Gasperi. The US had seemed faithful at first that the Christian Democrats

Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer
Jon Krakauer presents Into The Wild a tragic tale of a young ambitious man who is motivated to go
into the wilderness and discover his true identity.Jon krakauer conveys many messages to his readers
through Chris McCandless, and his messages often offer a warning to society.we will furture idenitfy
how the author delievers the warning to society and what effect it can have upon society today.Three
of the very important messages he empatizes on are the societies influence on people, the essence of
nature and the importance of fogriving someone.
Firstly we see how jon krakauer uses people and societies influence as a prime example to pass a very
important message. As we know American society seems to center around the idea of american dream
of going to the best university and to buy a new car, a new house overall to buy anything and
everything to look superior to others. This quote was said by chris which completly descirbes our
materalistic society So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the
initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and
conservatism. 56 57 Through the character Chris Mccandless we see how troubled the author is by
materalism and we also see authors disagreement to materalism when Chris denies his parents offer to
buy him a new car and by putting the strong emphasis on materalism the writer makes the readers

Stay Out of Our Lives!
December 1, 2012 Stay Out of Our Lives! Why is it that when gods and goddesses have affairs with us
mere mortals and nymphs it leads to our tragedies! There are so many stories about a god or goddess
falling for a mortal or nymph and then another god or goddess gets jealous or interferes with them and
then the poor mortal gets cursed or gets ditched! But out of all these stories none are more tragic then
the ones where Zeus cheats on his wife Hera, who then out of jealousy curses the poor women! Hera
is known for being revengeful on those who interfere with her marriage to Zeus. But what she doesn t
see is that most of the time the poor girl was just a victim. Unless you re Echo; she did deserve her
punishment, and you will see why. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now if Narcissus had just let Echo explain by writing it down or something then they could have
fallen in love, gotten married, and so on. And Narcissus wouldn t have refused Echo because she
would have been able to talk to him and get to know him. Echo would have been able to talk if Hera
hadn t cursed her. And Hera wouldn t have cursed her if Zeus had just been faithful! In another version
of this story Echo was still the beautiful nymph with an amazing voice. She lived deep in the woods
and, denied the love of any mortal or god. She attracted the god, Pan, but, who she turned down like
all the others. Pan was so angry he sent his shepherds to kill Echo by tearing her apart and spreading
her pieces far, and wide. Gaea received the pieces and scattered them so Echo s voice, and talents,
could be heard everywhere (Pontikis). Now it s a different version of the story but it s the same thing
Pan messed with Echo s life, and because of that it all ended in her doom. So as I ve been saying over,
and over again, if those selfish gods would just stay out of our love lives then none of this would have
ever happened. Half of the Greek tragedy stories would have never existed. Now this story also tells
us other things about the Greek myths for many of the gods judge our moral actions like Hera does.
Narcissus being turned into a flower is an example of Greek myths explaining how things came

Internal Conflicts In The Odyssey

Intro:
During our lifetime we face a varied amount of internal and external conflicts. Some of those conflicts
are physically challenging and some mentally. In the epic poem, The Odyssey by Homer, translated by
Robert Fitzgerald Odysseus triumphs, his external and internal conflicts using his traits of loyalty,
bravery, and intelligence.
Odysseus, though promised immortality by a fair goddess, chose wisely after some inner conflict. He
did not be base and undignified, but candid towards his inner conflict about what he felt on the inside.
As stated, My quiet Penelope how well I know would seem a shade before your majesty, death and old
age being unknown to you, while she must die. Yet, it is true, each day I long ... Show more content on

While the Cyclops he encounter is a bloody monster who is possibly fifteen times taller than what he
is, Odysseus as captain comes up with a plan that can harm him and his men. Stated in the text, I drew
it from the coals and my four fallows gave me a hand, lugging it near the cyclops as more than natural
force nerved them; straight forward they sprinted, lifted it, and rammed it deep into his crater eye, and
I leaned on it turning it as a ship wright turns a drill in a planking, having men below to swing the two
handed strap that spins it in the groove. (374 380) This shows that Odysseus, dauntless, knowing the
facts that it might be near impossible for a human to beat such a monster, shows his bravery by
overcoming this external conflict. Furthermore, Odysseus faces a setting which he battles both
externally and internally to not acknowledge the provoked feelings of fear. From every side they came
and sought the pit with rustling cries; and I grew sick with fear. But presently I gave command to my
officers to flay those sheep the bronze cut down, and make burnt offerings to flesh to the gods below
to sovereign death, to pale Persephone. (598 603) This statement shows how even admitting to having
fear, Odysseus does not let it get in the way of his survival, thus showing bravery. These two quotes
not only show Odysseus bravery with the Cyclopes and his internal willpower, but also his

The Black Cat , in which the narrator related a series of most wild yet most homely events he went

animals so much that he was often laughed at by his companions. He and his wife had many pets,
among which a giant black cat called Pluto was their favourite. But it has all changed since he became

Pluto. He digged out its eyes because the cat, out of terror, bit him, and then he hung it because he
thought Pluto was avoiding him. That night his house caught a fire and they were reduced to an old

Benefits Of Intermediate Corrections
Intermediate sanctions have been a valuable aspect in the court systems. In my opinion, I believe they
have made a difference in the court process because these programs offer an alternative outcome to the
defendant s criminal case. I believe the reason it hasn t made the impact aspired by legislators is due to
sentencing issues judges face from advocates of deserved punishment believers and the fact that
handing down alternative sentences to people with different outcomes could lead to people accusing
the courts of not being equal when sentencing individuals to jail time or probation. The sanction that I
believe could be most effective would have to be community service and restitution because what
better way to punish a person than to make them actually pay for their ... Show more content on

I believe that if a person can see the harm their actions have caused towards the victim at least
nonviolent offenders, and be forced to pay restitutions to both the victim and the court, then quite
possibly it could make the individual not want to repeat their criminal actions. Other countries such as
Germany, England, Sweden and most other European countries have already taken this form of
punishment into effect leading to less of a financial burden on its citizens. In addition to community
service and restitution, I have come to the conclusion that the best form of intermediate sanctions for
juveniles would be boot camp. Juvenile offenders often lack the adult figure in their lives and tend to
repeat the bad behavior they have witnessed throughout their lives and boot camp can give them that

Combustion Of Fireworks Chemistry
Don t trust atoms, they make up everything. This is true for the reaction witnessed in the combustion
of fireworks. These pretty colours and lights are the result of a chemical reaction occurring, that
ignites the firework and turns into a colourful flame. This phenomenon can be tested inside a
laboratory using similar circumstances to that of a firework in the air. The test involves using
chemicals, similar to what is seen in fireworks and burning those chemicals under a blue flame, which
burns at 1500C. The purpose of this experiment was to observe the characteristic flame colours
produced by the metal salts burned under a blue flame. In chemistry, a salt is an ionic compound that

Because these levels are unstable, the electrons incline to fall down to the levels where they were
before, releasing energy as they do so. This energy is released as light energy, and as the amount of
energy released varies from other metal ions, it leads to the characteristic colours given by each metal
ion. Metal salts are used to the produce the colour seen; a fuel is needed to allow the ion to burn; a
chemical which provides oxygen for the combustion of the fuel; and a chlorine/ binding chemical to
help strengthen; and hold the mixture together. For example, if Sodium is placed into a flame, the
sodium ions, collect all the energy given from the flame, and then is exerted out when the ions start to
die. A sodium atom in an unexcited state has the structure 3s1, but when placed in the flame the
sodium will give an orange ting to the flame which results in the ions jumping into the next levels and
then eventually falling back from the 3p1 level to their normal 3s1 level. While it is unknown who
actually invented our found out the flame test, it can all be traced back to Michael Faraday (Born 22nd

The Great Recession of 2008
Abstract
A recession is full proof sign of declined activity within the economic environment. Many economists
generally define the attributes of a recession are two consecutive quarters with declining GDP. Many
factors contribute to an economy s fall into a recession, but the major cause argued is inflation. As
individuals or even businesses try to cut costs and spending this causes GDP to decline,
unemployment rate can rise due to less spending which can be one of the combined factors when an
economy falls into a recession. Inflation is the general rise in prices of goods and services over a
period of time. Inflation can happen for reasons such as higher energy and production costs and that
includes governmental debt.

However, Sweden and the United States are also significant trading partners, with the U.S. spending
less and losing more jobs. As demand fell so did Sweden s export contribution to its GDP, thus
spiraling Sweden into a recession. Key interest rates began to fall in Sweden same as in the United
States due to the global financial meltdown. As the demand for loans diminish, interest rates tend to
decline as well (Schiller, 2010).
Dissimilarities of U.S. Recession and Other Nations
Although, Japan and Sweden had few similarities with those of the United States during the Great
Recession, there were dissimilarities that displayed the U.S. failure to achieve full employment GDP
and other factors. Japan s unemployment rate of about 4% opposed to the U.S. unemployment rate of
close to 10%. Even the financial debt to GDP ration is an advantage, and debt in the private sector has
not increased unlike the U.S. and European countries, (Time, 2009). In addition, since Japan is a huge
exporter and with the U.S. demand going downward, the international balances and growth declined
especially as the dollar value dropped and the yen surged. Unlike the United States, Sweden took a
double hit as weak international demand for its products and interest rates at home GDP contracted by
0.4% down, according to Sweden Real Estate (2010). Sweden s home prices keep rising while the
U.S. home prices had plummeted.

The Anti Federalist Argument Against A Weaker Federal...
The focus point of the anti federalist argument revolved around the support of a weaker federal
government. After the Declaration of Independence was signed, there was a necessity to unite the
nation. A way was needed to govern the land amassed by the thirteen colonies. On the twelfth of July,
1776, eight days after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Second Continental
Congress began efforts to create the fundamental principles on which to govern the nation while
managing the colonial war effort. Once a version was complete it was sent to be ratified by the states
in 1777. Ratification by the states was completed in 1781. This document is known as the Articles of
Confederation. The Articles of Confederation were deliberately weak, which followed logically after
breaking away from the strong British government. There was however a group that opposed the weak
federal government created by the Articles of Confederation, and they came to be known as the
federalists. The group that supported a weaker government thus came to be known as the anti
federalists. As the government played out on the nations stage, members of the anti federalist party
would change, uphold or augment their ideals.
The Articles of Confederation failed because of its deliberate lack of power. It was inherently weak
first and foremost because it called for a confederacy which gave sovereign power to the states. We
see this in Article II, which states that: Each state retains its

equality in my initial definition of justice. This sense of equality has developed to include non human
animals and even matter into this conversation. Through Bennett I have embraced the idea of
flattening out the current human on top hierarchy by elevating non human animals and matter to a
similar plane as humans. In my definition of justice currently, I include not only obvious human issues
but also issues of matter and animals. This being said, it is integral to clarify that the major crises that
are present in our world cannot be categorized as solei human , animal or matter issues. What effects
one, effects all. No individual node can be separated from the assemblage that not only influences, but
comprises it.
While I still support my assertion that justice can be found through the respecting and valuing of all
things, my understanding of the nature of this respect has deepened. It is difficult to gain deep respect
for things that you do not have intimate knowledge of. At the onset of the course, I knew I should
respect matter, however, if it had not been for this course I would not have understood why I should
have a deep respect for the lives of the

The North American Free Trade Agreement Essay
The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) is an agreement negotiated by three countries;
Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The main purpose of NAFTA is essentially to reduce trade
barriers in order to promote international commerce, and open up different industries to trade, in
particular textiles, agriculture, and automobile sectors. The introduction of NAFTA completely
transformed North American economic relations and led to unparalleled cooperation between the U.S.
Canada and Mexico. This research paper will look at the positive and negative impacts of NAFTA and
examine whether or not it has been overall successful in promoting economic growth in its member
nations. In order to answer this question, I will examine the effects of NAFTA on the U.S., Mexico
and Canada by focusing on the macroeconomic impact of NAFTA, its influence on different economic
sectors, and the dynamics of free trade between the developed economies of the U.S. and Canada and
an undeveloped country, Mexico Macroeconomic Effects The formation of NAFTA put together a $19
trillion market comprised of around 470 million consumers. The large majority of economists concur
that NAFTA has advanced the economies of its members. Trade in the region has increased
dramatically from 1993, from around $290 billion to around $1.0 trillion in 2016 (Source). Other
research into the macroeconomic impact shows improvements, such as an increase in GDP, income,
foreign investments, and lowering unemployment.

Six Principal Of Persuasion
The Six Principals of Persuasion
Reciprocity is humans need to reciprocate a good or bad deed that has been done to them. In the
context of persuasion it is the persuader offering something, such as a good or service, to the person
being persuaded, so they feel the need to take the persuaders point of view
Scarcity is explaining that something isn t readily available or is disappearing fast. For example a
salesman can use scarcity to persuade someone to buy a product that is going out of stock.
Authority is using the statements of someone or an institution that holds a position of authority to
support your statements. The World Heath Organization states that the definition of health is: The state
of physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. This is an
example of using the Authority of the World Health Organization ... Show more content on

Did the persuader write down their argument on an online blog where they can be rebutted from
anyone that reads the article or did they approach you in segregated location? The more publicly or
permanently accessible the persuasion is then the more it appeals to the Commitment and Consistency.
Consensus is if other people share the same views as the person persuading. If it s a view that many
people hold, it carries more weight. This is because people speculate examples like, if all these people
think that this brand is the best TV, then it must be pretty good.
Liking is how similar the person persuading us, is to us. An example is if I had 4 children, and the
person selling me a washing machine also had four children, his persuasion for me to purchase the
washing machine would be a lot more effective because he was similar to me, and I would see him as
being able to empathize with my

Crossbreds
According to a study done by students from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine,
the most frequent causes of death in puppies( ages two and younger) are trauma, congenital disease(
defects that develops before birth), and infectious causes. Older dogs, however, especially those older
than ten, are more likely to die from cancer. Crossbred dogs are prone to many diseases and disorders.
Crossbreeding is the act of breeding two different breeds of the same species(an organism that shares
characteristics.) Crossbreeding dogs can alter the puppies genetic deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA)

Critically Examine the Claim That Free Will and...
Critically examine the claim that free will and determinism are incompatible
One of the main questions that we face is whether or not, we as humans have genuine freedom. Are
we free to make our own choices? Do we decide what happens in our lives in the future? Or are our
lives set pathways in which we have no say at all? Are all our choices already decided? In other
words, do we have free will or are our actions pre determined, or both? Hard determinists, libertarians
and soft determinists all set out to provide answers to these questions, holding different views on
whether or not free will and determinism are compatible. Both hard determinists and libertarians

Many believe that the world is largely determined but we can still act freely as our behaviour is not
predictable. Thomas Aquinas disagreed with hard determinism as he believed that man chooses freely,
not out of necessity . Although Aquinas and others that criticise hard determinism and disagree with
the hard determinist views, would still agree with hard determinists in that free will and determinism
are incompatible, but would argue that we have free will but our lives are not determined. This view
that free will and determinism are incompatible but it is free will that exists, not determinism, is also
supported by libertarians.
Libertarians believe that we are free and are morally responsible for our actions. They believe that the
inanimate world is mechanical and is therefore caused and predictable but reject the idea that this
extends to humans. Libertarians hold that we are not compelled to act by forces outside our moral
consciousness; moral actions instead come from the character and values of the agent. There are
factors which may influence someone to act in one way but it is not certain that they will. C.A.
Campbell s notion of freedom states that when you are acting freely, the future is genuinely open to
you and you can actually choose one way or another, even with given nature and nurture. Libertarians
do not argue for absolute freedom but significant freedom that it is a

Investigating Possible Malware From A Workstation Memory
When investigating possible malware from a workstation memory, the process off capturing and
analyzing volatile data is the key to unlocking important evidence. While some information may be
stored securely on an encrypted volume, ongoing communications in social networks, open network
communications, data on running processes, and chat rooms never ends up in the hard drive.
Therefore, a responder should make a memory dump to acquire the digital evidence in addition to
understanding that the evidence they may be looking for could be contained in the physical memory to
avoid a shut down that could tamper with the evidence. The physical memory contains such data as
possible malicious codes, unencrypted content, network information, and open files and registry
handles.
The responder would have to act on this crime which involves the internet by first ascertaining the
method of chat that was used by the user ID. Chats involve internet relay chat, instant messenger
program, or a web s chat facility. This would entail determining the website that hosted the chat, its
internet address, and the program that the user ID used. This would provide information identifying
the suspect and the content of the chat detailing the time and dates of the chat activity.
Moreover, the evidential and Association of Chief Police Officers, ACPO considerations essential in
this process include integrity whereby the digital evidence must entail integrity at all stages. Integrity

Spinal Cord Stimulation Essay
Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is the most established member of the family of therapies known as
neuromodulation, it is technology that acts upon nerves and alter nerve activity by delivering electrical
stimuli directly to a target area (Chakravarthy et al. 2016). SCS is a clinical application arising directly
from the revolutionary gate control theory proposed by Melzack and Wall (1965) published in
Science, a theory which proposed a hypothesis for an intrinsic pain control mechanism (Lazorthes et
al. 2006). Spinal cord stimulation involve the placing a series of electrodes(4 16) mainly in epidural

The Herbal And Dietary Supplement Market
INTRODUCTION Nutraceutical, a term derived from the words nutrition and pharmaceutical refers to
food or a constituent of the food which has been scientifically proven to provide health and
therapeutic benefits such as the prevention and treatment of a disease. The term was formulated by Dr
Stephen de Felice in 1989. Nutraceuticals have a role in maintaining and improving the wellbeing and
health of an individual as well as regulating immunity. Consequently preventing and treating
particular diseases (Chauhan et a.l, 2013). Nutraceuticals are found in a diverse group of products
coming forth from the food industry, the pharmaceutical industry, the herbal and dietary supplement
market. They are present in most of the food ingredients with varying concentration. A diet rich in
these along with regular exercise, stress reduction and maintainance of healthy body weight will
maximize health and reduce disease risks (Chaturvedi et al., 2011). Nutraceuticals are on demand
because medical science is now realising the importance of food in treatment and prevention of
diseases since regular consumption of synthetic drugs sometimes cause organ failure and so many
other effects. Again, consumers have the belief that food like substances are either harmless or less
toxic as compared to conventional drugs, furthermore nutraceuticals are cheaper and are safe with
regards to avoiding the side effects associated with drugs (Tapans et al., 2008). CLASSIFICATION

The Oregon Benchmark System
However, one of the issues was that even though the benchmark system assisted agencies understand
their direction, a lack of explicit budgetary support hindered the fulfilment of respective agencies
plans (Ford 2000). A similar issue was also raised by Young (2009) as he mentioned that the Oregon
Benchmark system constantly struggled to secure its funding needs. Leichter (2002) also highlighted
that the process of linking agencies programs with benchmarks were often symbolic and in some cases
agencies had completed creative accounting to justify their budget request s linkage with Oregon
Shines benchmarks. One of the most commonly used benchmark folklore in this regard was the

Oregon Shines was used: to (a) link state and local level priorities and inspire local counties to adopt
the benchmarking system, (b) to facilitate educational reform, (c) to plan budget and funding decisions

directed in the Benchmark (Little 1998). Even after its many issues, both Oregon Shines I and II acted
as a state wide unified vision which was able to generate valuable information for the state legislators,
state agencies and non profit organisations. This kind of information in turn helped legislators enact
important legislations, formulate policies and directed state agencies to contribute towards the state s
development (Lewis 2000; Ford 2000). Most importantly, one of the major reasons of Oregon Shines
success was its ability to receive patronage of different governors as the administration changed with
the election cycle. Diffusion of Oregon Shines model Since the late 1980s, a number of US state

Active Transport
Active transport is the movement of molecule throughout the cell from the region of a lower chamber
into a chamber of higher concentration. This type of transport uses energy to transport things to point
A to point B. Active transport usually happen around the cell membrane, also there are thousands of
proteins contained in the cell lipid layer. These proteins does most of the work in the transporting
system. They are placed across the membrane so one part is inside of the cell while another is on the
outside. Only when they cross the bilayer they will be able to move molecules in and out of the cell.
The membrane proteins are very specific. One protein that will move glucose will not move calcium
ions. There are many types of membrane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this process it is often only found when the particles or cells move down from their concentration
gradient from one area of higher concentration to an areas of lower standard. The most common type
of passive transport is known as Osmosis. This process is solely responsible for moving water
throughout a cell membrane. Other types of particles can also move throughout the cell as well. They
are frequently very small molecules such as oxygen and simple pass between the spaces in the lipid
bilayer of the cell s membrane. This is a very difficult or hard to understand process. However, it is a
very important process that all cells need to survive. One type of passive transport is diffusion. This
process is the process which it moves things from a higher concentration to a lower concentration. The
difference between the concentration between the two areas is often called concentration gradient.
Diffusion will continue until this gradient is terminated or no longer is there. Since diffusion moves
material from an area of higher concentration to an areas of low concentration it is, identified as
moving solutes down the concentration gradient . However, in many cases the moving forces of
passive transport can not be identified to the simplified

Little Brother
Being the first true group of digital natives, it is no surprise that the children of Generation Z tend to
take in information instantaneously and lose interest just as quickly, especially when it comes to
learning in the classroom. Perhaps this is because few classrooms utilize any of the 21st century
technologies that are often needed to maintain students interest, and for good reasons too. In many
works of science fiction, technology is portrayed as inherently evil, and readers are often told stories
of the the potential uses of technology that range from bizarre to troublesome, to downright
horrendous. However, with so many new learning technologies being created and made available to
the public, such as the 3D printer, touch board electronic desks, virtual reality gear, and the entirely

She also talks about the Native feminist ethics, which brings understanding of the cultural perspectives
of leadership under the spotlight. In this respect, I think understanding of Native women s traditional
gender functions, roles and responsibilities is crucial in perceiving Indigenous feminism. This is
because I think in many tribal societies such as the Pashtun tribal societies in the northwestern FATA
(Federally Administered Tribal Areas) perceive gender roles and responsibilities as complementary.
The FATA areas and the colonial government system were creation of the British colonizers. This
example is very much relevant to the case of Native societies that were/are colonized in North
America because the British colonial rulers applied the similar methods to control and regulate
Pashtun tribes in the FATA areas. In comparison to the CFR Courts to implement the Code of Indian
Offences in Canada, the colonizers introduced and enforced the FCR (Frontier Crimes Regulations) in
the FATA areas on the Pakistani side of the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. In this colonial
structure, the Political Agent system implemented the FCR in which, for example, because of one
tribal individual the entire tribe was punished. Unfortunately, the FCR is still very much alive and is
being used the way many colonial laws are currently implemented in Canada and

Prepared Infant Formulas
The Infant
Breast feeding is the most favorable food an infant receives. A woman starts to lactate after birth and
the newborn yearns for their mother s milk. The child and mother bond creating a comfort
environment. The breast milk comprises of balanced nutrients that carry immunological traits.
However, if the mother didn t have a healthy pregnancy or has a sexual transmitted infection the milk
may do more harm than good. (Leifer 397 398) Supplemental nutrition is readily available if breast
feeding was not ideal. Synthetic nutrition is different than human milk. Allergies could possibly
develop and it could disrupt their digestion. Pediatricians speak favorably of iron fortified formulas
due to low maternal iron it decreases after 6 months of age. Cow s milk is not good for infants until
they are one. There are many companies that create prepared infant formulas. Many well known
names are Enfamil, Similac, Nestle, Pedialyte. (Leifer 398 399) ... Show more content on

Selecting and preparing solids foods for the infant may be tricky for parents. There are several
concerns that parents might have. Solid foods are introduced at the age 4 months to 6 months.
Pediatricians speak well of rice cereal. It should be the first food to be introduced since it barely
harbors allergic reactions. Fruits, vegetables, and meats should be a part of their diet. Thoroughly

I loved every minute of it. The atmosphere was so electrifying, always buzzing with all varieties of
music playing; jazz, soul, R B, blues, old school, slow jams. Furthermore, being a people person,
whom loves meeting people from all over the world. Met a few old friends from my high school; that I
had not seen in over ten years, it is a small world. Eventually, one will see again in a life span. My
bartending experience was a fabulous job. The tips made were my daughter Sandra s allowance,
subsequently never touching my paycheck to pay bills or allowances. The admiration, camaraderie,
loyalty, and the respect my co workers had for each other was like a well knit family, always having
each other s back, no matter the crisis was the team work that made any situation resolvable. If
someone had an issue that needed to be handled, the co workers would get together to figure out the

Geoffrey Wright, an El Paso architect, describes Henry...
Geoffrey Wright, an El Paso architect, describes Henry Trost s grand design of El Paso High School
incorrectly as a renaissance revival in a 1991 article in the Austin American Statesman. Although he
was mistaken in this observation, he made another observation that was correct, which is that the
eastern façade of El Paso High School s six humongous columns, on top of it s bases and adorned with
acanthus leaves, is most definitely a design of the Classical Revival style. He also went on to state,
[T]he style adopted the best parts of Greek and Italian architecture centuries later. There are multiple
aspects of ancient architecture that are hard to spot at first glance but upon further scrutiny one would
notice that the portico is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only differences between these two structures is that El Paso High School s east façade is
enclosed on both of the far ends and only has one engaged column on either side, while the Maison
Carée s façade has an open ended side which is supported by multiple columns. The Maison Carée
also sports a pseudoperipteral façade that runs around the building and El Paso High does not have
this feature. El Paso High School has a few engaged columns in certain areas around the school
although they are not a highly important feature, I think. El Paso High School also shares a few things
in common with one of Rome s most famous temple s, the Pantheon. Both buildings have a vestibule
above the pediments, which connect the porticos to the building itself. El Paso High s vestibule
connects each structure at a rectangular L shaped 45 degree angle. Although the Pantheon utilizes it s
vestibules by connecting the dome to the portico. On the frieze of El Paso High School the name of
the high school is inscribed in a similar fashion as the inscription on the Pantheon s frieze. The
inscription reads, M. AGRIPPA L. F. COS. TERTIUM. FECIT, translating to, Marcus Agrippa, son of
Lucius, Consul for the third time, built this. Hadrian, of course, had added this to the building when he
restored it after it burned down in 80 AD in order to pay homage

What Is The LA Silks Case Study
The L.A. Silks case study is a frustrating example of having the right idea and going about it the
wrong way. L.A. Silks imports fine silk fabrics, prints designs on them, and sells the screened silk
fabrics to fashion designers around the world, including Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Italy, although the
major market is still in the U.S. They are looking to expand the production aspect of their business
into china as it low operating costs, sits in a free trade zone and has more relaxed rules on chemicals
used and imported in the region.
Helen Martin founder and creator of L.A. Silks tasks George Liscomb with reaching out to the
Chinese government and considering setting up a factory there. Eventually Liscomb gets in contact
with Li Fuming a director in the Buildings Department in the Shenzhen District Government. This is
the point at which the commutations struggles begin. This is the point in the case study in which is
clearly becomes an example to look at a completely unrealistic to how something would happen in the
real world. Liscomb s first letter is a short one page letter with very little explanation of exactly what
he needs or what his intentions are. Before this letter would have even been drafted there are so many
people who he could have reached out to for more information. He could have contacted other
business with factories in china. He could have contacted the Chinese embassy to try and get more
information with regards to the governments positions on foreign

Roland Barthes Microcosm Of The Adult World
Can you still recall the easygoing days of your childhood that were full of cartoons and toys? What
kind of toys did you play with? Did you play with action figures, baby dolls, video games, or Easy
Bake Ovens? According to literary theorist, Roland Barthes, toys precondition children to roles that
are expected of their gender. For example, Barthes claims that dolls condition girls for the role as a
mother. Did the toys you played with as a child predict the position you currently hold? I disagree with
Roland Barthes s claims in his essay, Toys, concerning both the description of toys as being a
microcosm of the adult world and that toys create users, not creators. Barthes main claim within his
essay is that toys are all reduced copies of human objects. He believes that toys always mean
something, and that something refers to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, kids who play with miniature medical kits become doctors or those who were amused by
telescopes became scientists. Are children nothing more than smaller versions of adults? Do the toys
parents supply their children with truly prepare them for adulthood? I truly believe that toys are
nothing more but mere objects. Believing that a toy predicts a child s future role in society is like
believing that a Magic 8 Ball can truly answer whatever it s asked. Barthes claims that dolls that
urinate and are fed with a bottle are meant to condition girls for their future roles as mothers. Growing
up, I never played with dolls. I spent the days of my youth playing with action figures and running
around the backyard in my cape. What category of Barthes s do I fit in? Does

The Decline of the Newspaper
In 1760, The Boston News Letter was the first newspaper to be continuously published in the United
States. A 250 year legacy of printed news could not have lasted if it newspapers didn t not have it uses.
Aside from the entertainment value, newspapers exist for the main purpose of bringing news of
international, national, and local news to the doorsteps of the people. Without such frequent and stable
form of communication, it would be difficult for any nation to call itself a free democracy. Today
however, it cannot be expected that newsprint will last forever. Statistical data firmly suggests
newspapers around the world are falling both in number and circulation. The past several years have
been difficult for newspapers as other news ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There could be no national forum where issues are discussed because people would not know what
there is to discuss in the first place. As Arthur Miller ones said: A good newspaper, I suppose, is a
nation talking to itself. Our United States would no longer be united but instead fragmented into
nations talking only as far as word of mouth could reach. Lack of a national medium of information is
an obvious problem in any democracy.
Today, Newspapers are at the lowest circulation in seven decades. Numbers do not lie, newspapers are
in decline. According to a The Washington Post article from October of 2009, The Accelerating
Decline of Newspapers , only 13 percent of Americans today buy one of 1400 daily papers. In 1940
that number was 31 percent Newspapers annual losses of paid daily subscriptions are at record lows
all across the board. From the same article of the Washington Post: New York Times reported seven
percent loss, Los Angeles Times reported 11 percent, Washington Post 6 percent, San Francisco
Chronicles 26 percent, Dallas Morning News and Newark Star Ledger both report 22 percent losses.
Of the 25 top newspapers in the United States, only the Wall Street Journal did not report a decline in
circulation. The Wall Street Journal only managed a 0.6 percent gain. Furthermore, the rate of decline
in print circulation at the nation s newspapers has accelerated. Between 2008 and 2009 there was a
seven percent drop. Rick Edmonds, a media business analyst at

Essay on Analysis of the Novel The Lovely Bones by Alice...
These were the lovely bones that had grown around my absence: the connections sometimes tenuous,
sometimes made at great cost, but often magnificent that happened after I was gone. And I began to
see things in a way that let me hold the world without me in it. The events that my death wrought were
merely the bones of a body that would become whole at some unpredictable time in the future. The
price of what I came to see as this miraculous body had been my life. In the novel The Lovely Bones
written by Alice Sebold it that takes you on an expedition that re lives the heartbreaking moments of a
life and formation of new connections between the ones that were affected by the tragedy.

For example, each family member goes into Susie s old room alone to grieve her death .They finally
seem to realize that they need each other to get through this terrible time and accept that even though
they will never have Susie back but can hope and try together to figure out what happened to Susie
and who did it. Throughout the book they must learn to love each other again. The theme of grief is the
most important theme in the novel. The Salmon family must learn to overcome the loss of Susie.
Everyone grieves in their own way and finds a way to blame themselves or feel like its their own fault
that the situation happened. Susie s family feels a sense of guilt for not being there for her. For
example, Susie s father, Jack grieves for Susie. He feels like he wasn t there when his daughter needed
him most which leads him to becomes obsessed with feeling responsible for finding the killer.
Lindsey, Susie s sister grieves over her sister by becoming a stronger person and not to talking about
it. Susie s also mourns her own death and the missed opportunity of getting to grow up, but more
significantly, Susie grieves over the loss of living people. This theme allows us to understand the
characters better.

  • 2. Purposes For Conducting Qualitative Research Purposes for Conducting Qualitative Research There are four major purposes for conducting qualitative research. They are exploratory, explanatory, descriptive and emancipatory. The purpose of exploratory qualitative research is to investigate little understood phenomenon, to identify or discover important categories of meaning and to generate hypotheses for future research. The purpose of explanatory qualitative research is to explain patterns related to the phenomenon being studied and to identify plausible relationships shaping the phenomenon. The purpose of descriptive qualitative research is to describe and document phenomena. The purpose of emancipatory qualitative research is to create opportunities and the will to engage in social action. Step 1: Develop a theoretical and conceptual understanding of the phenomenon being studied; which includes performing background research on the theoretical foundations of the phenomenon and researching research conducted on the phenomenon s field. This step involves making sure one fully understands the topic. One should have a clear understanding of the topic before moving further into the next step. A significant amount of research of the topic should be done to develop a clear understanding of the topic and how to approach finding background information in regards to what is being discussed. For example, with the topic of social media and college students, one should understand what social media is, how and why it is used, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Duchess Of Malfi Masculinity How does time periods like Renaissance, Restoration, and the Eighteenth Century interact with masculinity? Renaissance, Restoration, and the Eighteenth Century shows us that masculinity can be portrayed as having power or they can be seen as getting overpowered by femininity. In these different time periods it is noticeable that men are not the only individuals that is considered to be smart and they are not the only ones who can maintain power. Also, within these time periods women do not always submit themselves to the men. By looking at the Renaissance, Restoration, and Eighteenth Century time periods masculinity roles shifts from men claiming their supremacy by being overbearing, dominant, and selfish to getting tricked and manipulated by women so that power can be seen as being equal within genders or completely taken by women. In the Duchess of Malfi masculinity is constructed as maintaining power by being overbearing and selfish. The brothers Ferdinand and Cardinal was overbearing and selfish when it came down to their sister love life. Ferdinand and Cardinal tried to dictate their sister by telling her that she cannot become another man s wife. The brothers does not want their sister to remarry again because they think she would be seen as lustful. He and his brother are like plum trees that grow crooked over standing pools; they are rich and o erladen with fruit but none but crows, pies, and caterpillars feed on them (46 48). • 4. Intelligence Vs Growth Mindset Although many with a fixed mindset believe that intelligence is determined at birth, research has shown how the brain can be developed to ultimately make someone become smarter, instantly favoring those with a growth mindset. The way a person with a fixed mindset feels about something like accepting feedback and constructive criticism absolutely differs from the way one with a growth mindset would feel. Those with a fixed mindset feel threatened by feedback and may avoid it altogether if possible due to thinking that they ll never become better ( Effective Effort Rubric ) (Knapp). On the contrary, those with a growth mindset are motivated by feedback and criticism, thinking of it as a crucial element in the learning process( Effective Effort ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brain researchers have found evidence that the way a person thinks with a growth mindset actually helps to develop their intelligence and become smarter. Scientists have formed the conclusion after studying the brains of animals and infants that the brain s neurons multiply, get stronger, and take in new information after being mentally challenged ( You Can Grow Your Intelligence )(Knapp). This leads to an increased growth of dendrites that helps to speed up how fast information travels, further leading to a faster learning process and eventually resulting to an improved intelligence. Common habits of those with a growth mindset, like focusing on learning, practicing, and challenging themselves mentally, is exactly what is needed to strengthen the brain. Doing things along with having a growth mindset, like getting enough sleep, eating nutritional foods and exercising regularly, can also lead to an improved intelligence. Having a growth mindset is ones choice, but it can overall help them to become more successful and intelligent in life. A Worn Path Phoenix Jackson Character Analysis Leslie Mosley Amy LaPalme English 102 8 February 2015 Phoenix Jackson: Rising from the Ashes Many authors incorporate mythological creatures in stories to represent the virtues and vices of their lead characters. Eudora Welty s character Phoenix Jackson symbolizes resurrection in A Worn Path, and therefore identifies with the legendary phoenix. The Encyclopedia Britannica describes the phoenix, as large as an eagle, with brilliant scarlet and gold plumage and a melodious cry. Only one phoenix existed at any time, and it was very long lived, and at the end of the bird s lifespan it would catch fire for a new phoenix to rise from the ashes ( phoenix ). Phoenix Jackson is an old Negro woman that is making a difficult journey including both physical and mental challenges; she overcomes these trials as a result of her unconditional love for her grandson (Welty 314). • 8. Plant Growth Of The Brassica Rapa Background There is a drought in California which is in turn affecting the number of crops that can be grown in a given amount of time. Farmers now must find a way to grow crops in an economical fashion while also maximizing each yield as much as possible. However, plant growth can be influenced by seed variety, the amount of water, the soil type, amount of light, etc., and many other variables. For this experiment, we are testing the growth of the Brassica rapa, a mustard plant under the same conditions of water, sunlight, and oxygen, with two different treatment solutions. There will be two pots, one has a treatment of just deionized water and the other a treatment of fertilizer as well as deionized water. Because the fertilizer has the added benefit of nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium along with the same quantity of deionized water as the first pot, it is hypothesized that both sets of plants will grow, however the pot with fertilizer will grow more than the pot with just water treatment. In the Fertilizer Responses of Volunteer Longleaf Pine Trees within a Loblolly Pine Plantation: Separating Direct Effects from Competition Effects paper, an experiment on the effect of fertilization on two trees was done. Before the experiment was initiated, it was known that fertilization increases the growth and productivity of the loblolly pine tree, while it was hypothesized that the longleaf pine tree is less responsive to fertilization (Anderson, 2009). • 13. Stay Out of Our Lives! December 1, 2012 Stay Out of Our Lives! Why is it that when gods and goddesses have affairs with us mere mortals and nymphs it leads to our tragedies! There are so many stories about a god or goddess falling for a mortal or nymph and then another god or goddess gets jealous or interferes with them and then the poor mortal gets cursed or gets ditched! But out of all these stories none are more tragic then the ones where Zeus cheats on his wife Hera, who then out of jealousy curses the poor women! Hera is known for being revengeful on those who interfere with her marriage to Zeus. But what she doesn t see is that most of the time the poor girl was just a victim. Unless you re Echo; she did deserve her punishment, and you will see why. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now if Narcissus had just let Echo explain by writing it down or something then they could have fallen in love, gotten married, and so on. And Narcissus wouldn t have refused Echo because she would have been able to talk to him and get to know him. Echo would have been able to talk if Hera hadn t cursed her. And Hera wouldn t have cursed her if Zeus had just been faithful! In another version of this story Echo was still the beautiful nymph with an amazing voice. She lived deep in the woods and, denied the love of any mortal or god. She attracted the god, Pan, but, who she turned down like all the others. Pan was so angry he sent his shepherds to kill Echo by tearing her apart and spreading her pieces far, and wide. Gaea received the pieces and scattered them so Echo s voice, and talents, could be heard everywhere (Pontikis). Now it s a different version of the story but it s the same thing Pan messed with Echo s life, and because of that it all ended in her doom. So as I ve been saying over, and over again, if those selfish gods would just stay out of our love lives then none of this would have ever happened. Half of the Greek tragedy stories would have never existed. Now this story also tells us other things about the Greek myths for many of the gods judge our moral actions like Hera does. Some of those conflicts are physically challenging and some mentally. In the epic poem, The Odyssey by Homer, translated by Robert Fitzgerald Odysseus triumphs, his external and internal conflicts using his traits of loyalty, bravery, and intelligence. Odysseus, though promised immortality by a fair goddess, chose wisely after some inner conflict. He did not be base and undignified, but candid towards his inner conflict about what he felt on the inside. Stated in the text, I drew it from the coals and my four fallows gave me a hand, lugging it near the cyclops as more than natural force nerved them; straight forward they sprinted, lifted it, and rammed it deep into his crater eye, and I leaned on it turning it as a ship wright turns a drill in a planking, having men below to swing the two handed strap that spins it in the groove. (374 380) This shows that Odysseus, dauntless, knowing the facts that it might be near impossible for a human to beat such a monster, shows his bravery by overcoming this external conflict. Furthermore, Odysseus faces a setting which he battles both externally and internally to not acknowledge the provoked feelings of fear. From every side they came and sought the pit with rustling cries; and I grew sick with fear. But presently I gave command to my officers to flay those sheep the bronze cut down, and make burnt offerings to flesh to the gods below to sovereign death, to pale Persephone. In my opinion, I believe they have made a difference in the court process because these programs offer an alternative outcome to the defendant s criminal case. I believe the reason it hasn t made the impact aspired by legislators is due to sentencing issues judges face from advocates of deserved punishment believers and the fact that handing down alternative sentences to people with different outcomes could lead to people accusing the courts of not being equal when sentencing individuals to jail time or probation. Other countries such as Germany, England, Sweden and most other European countries have already taken this form of punishment into effect leading to less of a financial burden on its citizens. In addition to community service and restitution, I have come to the conclusion that the best form of intermediate sanctions for juveniles would be boot camp. Dissimilarities of U.S. Recession and Other Nations Although, Japan and Sweden had few similarities with those of the United States during the Great Recession, there were dissimilarities that displayed the U.S. failure to achieve full employment GDP and other factors. Japan s unemployment rate of about 4% opposed to the U.S. unemployment rate of close to 10%. Even the financial debt to GDP ration is an advantage, and debt in the private sector has not increased unlike the U.S. and European countries, (Time, 2009). In addition, since Japan is a huge exporter and with the U.S. demand going downward, the international balances and growth declined especially as the dollar value dropped and the yen surged. Unlike the United States, Sweden took a double hit as weak international demand for its products and interest rates at home GDP contracted by 0.4% down, according to Sweden Real Estate (2010). • 20. The Anti Federalist Argument Against A Weaker Federal... The focus point of the anti federalist argument revolved around the support of a weaker federal government. After the Declaration of Independence was signed, there was a necessity to unite the nation. A way was needed to govern the land amassed by the thirteen colonies. On the twelfth of July, 1776, eight days after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Second Continental Congress began efforts to create the fundamental principles on which to govern the nation while managing the colonial war effort. Once a version was complete it was sent to be ratified by the states in 1777. Ratification by the states was completed in 1781. This document is known as the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation were deliberately weak, which followed logically after breaking away from the strong British government. There was however a group that opposed the weak federal government created by the Articles of Confederation, and they came to be known as the federalists. The group that supported a weaker government thus came to be known as the anti federalists. As the government played out on the nations stage, members of the anti federalist party would change, uphold or augment their ideals. The Articles of Confederation failed because of its deliberate lack of power. It was inherently weak first and foremost because it called for a confederacy which gave sovereign power to the states. We see this in Article II, which states that: Each state retains its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have held consistent the idea of creating a more equal world as a key element of justice. However, I have added important nuances in the way in which I think about and discuss this issue. I discussed equality in my initial definition of justice. This sense of equality has developed to include non human animals and even matter into this conversation. Through Bennett I have embraced the idea of flattening out the current human on top hierarchy by elevating non human animals and matter to a similar plane as humans. In my definition of justice currently, I include not only obvious human issues but also issues of matter and animals. This being said, it is integral to clarify that the major crises that are present in our world cannot be categorized as solei human , animal or matter issues. What effects one, effects all. No individual node can be separated from the assemblage that not only influences, but comprises it. While I still support my assertion that justice can be found through the respecting and valuing of all things, my understanding of the nature of this respect has deepened. It is difficult to gain deep respect for things that you do not have intimate knowledge of. At the onset of the course, I knew I should respect matter, however, if it had not been for this course I would not have understood why I should have a deep respect for the lives of the ... • 22. The North American Free Trade Agreement Essay The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) is an agreement negotiated by three countries; Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The main purpose of NAFTA is essentially to reduce trade barriers in order to promote international commerce, and open up different industries to trade, in particular textiles, agriculture, and automobile sectors. The introduction of NAFTA completely transformed North American economic relations and led to unparalleled cooperation between the U.S. Canada and Mexico. This research paper will look at the positive and negative impacts of NAFTA and examine whether or not it has been overall successful in promoting economic growth in its member nations. In order to answer this question, I will examine the effects of NAFTA on the U.S., Mexico and Canada by focusing on the macroeconomic impact of NAFTA, its influence on different economic sectors, and the dynamics of free trade between the developed economies of the U.S. and Canada and an undeveloped country, Mexico Macroeconomic Effects The formation of NAFTA put together a $19 trillion market comprised of around 470 million consumers. The large majority of economists concur that NAFTA has advanced the economies of its members. Trade in the region has increased dramatically from 1993, from around $290 billion to around $1.0 trillion in 2016 (Source). Critically examine the claim that free will and determinism are incompatible One of the main questions that we face is whether or not, we as humans have genuine freedom. Are we free to make our own choices? Do we decide what happens in our lives in the future? Or are our lives set pathways in which we have no say at all? Are all our choices already decided? In other words, do we have free will or are our actions pre determined, or both? Hard determinists, libertarians and soft determinists all set out to provide answers to these questions, holding different views on whether or not free will and determinism are compatible. Many believe that the world is largely determined but we can still act freely as our behaviour is not predictable. Thomas Aquinas disagreed with hard determinism as he believed that man chooses freely, not out of necessity . Although Aquinas and others that criticise hard determinism and disagree with the hard determinist views, would still agree with hard determinists in that free will and determinism are incompatible, but would argue that we have free will but our lives are not determined. This view that free will and determinism are incompatible but it is free will that exists, not determinism, is also supported by libertarians. Libertarians believe that we are free and are morally responsible for our actions. They believe that the inanimate world is mechanical and is therefore caused and predictable but reject the idea that this extends to humans. Libertarians hold that we are not compelled to act by forces outside our moral consciousness; moral actions instead come from the character and values of the agent. There are factors which may influence someone to act in one way but it is not certain that they will. C.A. They are placed across the membrane so one part is inside of the cell while another is on the outside. Only when they cross the bilayer they will be able to move molecules in and out of the cell. The FATA areas and the colonial government system were creation of the British colonizers. This example is very much relevant to the case of Native societies that were/are colonized in North America because the British colonial rulers applied the similar methods to control and regulate Pashtun tribes in the FATA areas. In comparison to the CFR Courts to implement the Code of Indian Offences in Canada, the colonizers introduced and enforced the FCR (Frontier Crimes Regulations) in the FATA areas on the Pakistani side of the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. In this colonial structure, the Political Agent system implemented the FCR in which, for example, because of one tribal individual the entire tribe was punished. Unfortunately, the FCR is still very much alive and is being used the way many colonial laws are currently implemented in Canada and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Prepared Infant Formulas The Infant Breast feeding is the most favorable food an infant receives. A woman starts to lactate after birth and the newborn yearns for their mother s milk. The child and mother bond creating a comfort environment. The breast milk comprises of balanced nutrients that carry immunological traits. However, if the mother didn t have a healthy pregnancy or has a sexual transmitted infection the milk may do more harm than good. (Leifer 397 398) Supplemental nutrition is readily available if breast feeding was not ideal. Synthetic nutrition is different than human milk. Allergies could possibly develop and it could disrupt their digestion. Pediatricians speak favorably of iron fortified formulas due to low maternal iron it decreases after 6 months of age. • 42. Why I Want To Be A Bartender Essay Life as a bartender, all started when I was stationed in Germany in 1997. I went to the NCO club at lunch time, after work, and on weekends to play the slots machines, until the club section for dancing opened. Nonetheless, being at the club constantly made people asked me if I worked there. It made sense to me to work, have fun, and get paid. I love to be surrounded by all different types of people. Positions were needed to be filled, so I applied for the bartender position. Everyone knew me by name. Since I was in the military, permission from my Commander and supervisor was need. My supervisor SFC Weathersby vouched for me to Captain Sorenton assuring that my bartender duties would not interfere with my military duties as a Soldier. • 43. Geoffrey Wright, an El Paso architect, describes Henry... Geoffrey Wright, an El Paso architect, describes Henry Trost s grand design of El Paso High School incorrectly as a renaissance revival in a 1991 article in the Austin American Statesman. Although he was mistaken in this observation, he made another observation that was correct, which is that the eastern façade of El Paso High School s six humongous columns, on top of it s bases and adorned with acanthus leaves, is most definitely a design of the Classical Revival style. He also went on to state, [T]he style adopted the best parts of Greek and Italian architecture centuries later. The only differences between these two structures is that El Paso High School s east façade is enclosed on both of the far ends and only has one engaged column on either side, while the Maison Carée s façade has an open ended side which is supported by multiple columns. The Maison Carée also sports a pseudoperipteral façade that runs around the building and El Paso High does not have this feature. El Paso High School has a few engaged columns in certain areas around the school although they are not a highly important feature, I think. El Paso High School also shares a few things in common with one of Rome s most famous temple s, the Pantheon. Both buildings have a vestibule above the pediments, which connect the porticos to the building itself. El Paso High s vestibule connects each structure at a rectangular L shaped 45 degree angle. Although the Pantheon utilizes it s vestibules by connecting the dome to the portico. On the frieze of El Paso High School the name of the high school is inscribed in a similar fashion as the inscription on the Pantheon s frieze. The inscription reads, M. AGRIPPA L. F. COS. TERTIUM. Hadrian, of course, had added this to the building when he restored it after it burned down in 80 AD in order to pay homage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. What Is The LA Silks Case Study The L.A. Silks case study is a frustrating example of having the right idea and going about it the wrong way. L.A. Silks imports fine silk fabrics, prints designs on them, and sells the screened silk fabrics to fashion designers around the world, including Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Italy, although the major market is still in the U.S. They are looking to expand the production aspect of their business into china as it low operating costs, sits in a free trade zone and has more relaxed rules on chemicals used and imported in the region. Helen Martin founder and creator of L.A. Silks tasks George Liscomb with reaching out to the Chinese government and considering setting up a factory there. Eventually Liscomb gets in contact with Li Fuming a director in the Buildings Department in the Shenzhen District Government. This is the point at which the commutations struggles begin. This is the point in the case study in which is clearly becomes an example to look at a completely unrealistic to how something would happen in the real world. Liscomb s first letter is a short one page letter with very little explanation of exactly what he needs or what his intentions are. Before this letter would have even been drafted there are so many people who he could have reached out to for more information. He could have contacted other business with factories in china. • 45. Roland Barthes Microcosm Of The Adult World Can you still recall the easygoing days of your childhood that were full of cartoons and toys? What kind of toys did you play with? Did you play with action figures, baby dolls, video games, or Easy Bake Ovens? According to literary theorist, Roland Barthes, toys precondition children to roles that are expected of their gender. For example, Barthes claims that dolls condition girls for the role as a mother. Did the toys you played with as a child predict the position you currently hold? I disagree with Roland Barthes s claims in his essay, Toys, concerning both the description of toys as being a microcosm of the adult world and that toys create users, not creators. Barthes main claim within his essay is that toys are all reduced copies of human objects. He believes that toys always mean something, and that something refers to ... Are children nothing more than smaller versions of adults? Do the toys parents supply their children with truly prepare them for adulthood? I truly believe that toys are nothing more but mere objects. Believing that a toy predicts a child s future role in society is like believing that a Magic 8 Ball can truly answer whatever it s asked. Barthes claims that dolls that urinate and are fed with a bottle are meant to condition girls for their future roles as mothers. Growing up, I never played with dolls. Aside from the entertainment value, newspapers exist for the main purpose of bringing news of international, national, and local news to the doorsteps of the people.
