investigator is called to the stand and asked questions about what happened during the investigation

anger and the conflict between the Gods; this introduction suggests that, although the story is

fate, as he is a Trojan. After book 1, the role of the gods only becomes more clear as Aeneas

Adrienne Rich, applies a predictable structure paired with flowing syntax, and ambiguous diction
speaking both of weather and emotions to illustrate that one cannot avoid the tribulations of life,
embodied as the approaching storm, but instead prepare for their arrival. Storm Warnings, true to its
literal subject matter, possesses flowy sweeping syntax created by the strategic use of commas and
phrasing to draw parallels between the physical oncoming winds and the gales of life. The author
crafts a long run on sentence that spans the first stanza and carries on into the latter portion of the
second to mirror the continuous flowing of windy weather and the forward motion of life. Once the
speaker notices the brewing storm, they walk from window to closed window, watching boughs
strain against the sky. In this portion of the affromented run on sentence, alliteration, rhythm, and
the repetition of words all contribute to the impression of movement. The various w sounds at the
beginnings of words and the repetition of the word window create a sensation of continuously
flowing forward, especially when read aloud; the comma adds a small swirling pause to the rhythm,
which is then soon after resumed with the word watching. Just as the poem rhythmically moves
forward with its long phrases connected with frequent commas, so must life carry on with each
additional experience, whether it be misfortunes or joys. The elongated syntax allows all these
elements to work together within sentences to highlight the similarities between physical storms
and emotional struggle and to stress the inevitability of predicaments in life.

Reading is an important skill for first and second language learners. Failing to learn to read and
write in the early years results in poor self esteem for learners than any other cause (Casey, 2001).
Computer technology proved to have many advantages for students with learning difficulties,
including motivational aspects and development of fine motor skills (Casey, 2001).
A review of the reading research in L1 and L2 on the effect of a variety of technologies on students
achievement has shown two contradictory findings. The fist line of research found that use of
technology had no significant effect on students reading skill development. Computer assisted
instruction had no effect on the reading achievement of 3rd 6th grade students in a low socio
economic status community. No significant differences were also found between boys and girls
reading achievement (Hamilton, 1995). In another study, Martindale, Pearson, Curda Pilcher (2005)
found that 5th grade students who used computer based and web based software applications
(FCAT Explorer) scored significantly higher on the FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment
Test) than elementary school students who did not use the FCAT Explorer. At the high schoollevel,

The Homeland Security Act of 2002 is a far reaching act of legislation that was created in the
wake of the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. The bill was sponsored by Richard Armey
of Texas and received final congressional approval on November 19th, 2002, and signed into law
by President George W. Bush on November 25th, 2002. The Homeland Security Act was one of the
largest government responses to the terrorist attacks on 9/11, creating an entirely new department,
the Department of Homeland Security under the Executive Branch. The Act also created hundreds
of new positions within already existing government departments. The act has been amended a
multitude of times since its original passage and over two different Presidential Administrations.
Many citizens are still split on the decision whether or not the Homeland Security Act has helped
make Americans safer, or if it was the beginning of many government intrusions of citizen s
privacy. Either way, it is an act of legislation that is here to stay, and as citizens it is important to
understand it and how it affects the lives of American citizens. In the wake of September 11th,
2001, Americans both young and old were in desperate need for answers: Who did this? Why did
they do this? How could this happen? The most important question, though, was: How do we

The Roman Civilization is one of the most influential civilizations in human history. Many things,
from militaristic strategies to the way we clean ourselves stem from the Roman Civilization. While
this period in time held a lot of the advances for humankind, I believe that most came under one
empire. I believe that ancient Romewas the most influential civilization in the Classical Era of
World history.
The Roman Conquest came about around 753 B.C.E. Rome started as a kingdom, but about 240
years later became a republic. The Republic of Rome lasted until 27 B.C.E until Augustus, formerly
Octavius, declared it an empire. The empire lasted until a split occurred in 395 C.E. The empire
was split into the East, or the Byzantine Empire, and the West. The Western Roman empireonly
lasted until around the year 480 C.E., when it fell to the Germanic Visigoths. The Byzantine
Empire, spearheaded by great leaders such as Constantine, Leo and Justinian triumphed on for
much longer than its relative to the west. The Byzantine Empire lasted until the Post Classical era,
falling in 1453 C.E. to the rising force of Sultan Mehmed II and the Ottoman Empire. While Rome
endured many political and social changes, it still lasted over two thousand years. Over the two
thousand years it lasted, the Roman population had peaked out from upwards of 50,000,00 to
100,000,00 citizens. During this reign the square mileage climbed to the enormous amount of
almost 2,000,000 square miles. While these numbers are enormous, the extent of Roman influence
can be seen in many other places around the world. These influences can especially be seen in the
Modern day United States.
The political similarities between the United States of America and the Ancient Roman Civilization
are very apparent. Consuls are the Roman example of the president, or prime minister, the major
difference was that there were two consuls at a time. Consuls were democratically elected and
served one year sentences. Consuls also were not the military leaders in Rome, unlike the President.
This position was held by the dictator, another magistrate, or elected individual. The consuls had the
authority to veto decisions made by each other, and were primarily in charge
