The flowmap denoted $phi_{t,t_{0}}in Diff(R^{N})$ where $Diff(R^{N})$ denotes the group of
diffeomorphisms of $R^{N}$ is defined as a map that takes the initial solution, that is the solution
at $t_{0}$ to the solution at any time $t$, this can be expressed mathematically by
egin{center}
$phi_{t,t_{0}}: Y_{t_{0}}longmapsto Y_{t}$ end{center} That is to say, given any initial data
$Y_{0}in R^{N}$, the solution $ Y_{t}$ at any later time can be easily specified. This can be
done by applying the action of the flowmap to the initial data $Y_{0}$ in order to
$Y_{t}=phi_{t,t_{0}} circ Y_{t_{0}}$.
Consider a function $fin Diff(R^{N})$, by using the chain rule, we obtain
$ frac{d}{dt}(f(Y))=V(Y).partial_{Y} f(Y)$
This means that action of the vector fields on $Diff(R^{N})$ is as first order partial differential
operators since $V(Y).partial_{Y} f(Y)$ is considered as first order partial differential operators.
vspace{0.5cm}
The evolution of $fcircphi_{t}$ is given by
egin{center}
$ frac{d}{dt}(fcircphi_{t})=Vcirc fcircphi_{t}$ end{center} The above equation is an autonomous
linear functional differential equation for $fcircphi_{t}$. Such equation has a solution
$fcircphi_{t}=exp(tV)circ fcircphi_{t}$ as $phi_{0}=id$
Setting $f=id$ provides the representation of the flowmap as follows
egin{center}
$phi_{t}=exp(tV)$ end{center} Hence, in this considered case, the flowmap is the exponential of
the vector field. By compositing the above equation

Reasons for increasing popularity of social media marketing
The major reason why social media marketing is increasing in popularity is that it is greatly cost

U.s. Federal Law Enforcement Agencies
Terrorism has always existed in American policing, and while the groups committing these acts
have changed, their intentions have not. Their intentions being to cause maximum fear and
scare those who they target into doing and following their ideology. In the 1970 s and 1980 s in
America, the main terrorist groups were associated with the environmental movement and race
based groups, while other parts of the world were dealing with Islamic extremists, were
committing terrorist acts across the Middle East without much intervention from the United
States. In fact the group Al Qaeda, who attacked the World Trade Centers in 1993 and 2001,
found its roots in the 1980 s fighting the Soviet Union in Afghanistan with weapons supplied by
the Central Intelligence Agency. While the U.S. Federal Law Enforcement agencies knew of
these groups, they underestimated the capabilities of lone wolf, small cell, and whole terrorist
organizations. This was due to the fact that the Federal Law Enforcement agencies top priority
was general crime such as organized crimes and white collar crime. In the 1900 s and early 2000
s a series of events would bring a change in priorities for Federal Law Enforcement, namely the
Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), which was on the brink of being dissolved. The Inspector
General s 2003 report stated that prior to 9/11, the Bureau devoted significantly more special agent
resources to traditional law enforcement activities such as white collar crime,

The Pros And Cons Of The North Dakota Pipeline
The environment is a very important thing to take care of and can be very fragile. In the recent
years humanity hasn t been doing much to take care of the earth, and instead is destroying it in the
name of progress. One of the harmful things that could really impact the environment is the North
Dakota Pipeline. Some facts about the pipeline is that it is owned by Energy Transfer Partners who
are the owners of Sunoco. Sunoco has had multiple onshore pipeline leaks and disasters that have
devastated many environments. The planned pipeline is going to be 1,134 miles long and will cut
through North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Illinois, by doing that it crosses fifty counties in
total. Pipelines in general aren t really the most reliable things... Show more content on

Importance Of Diversity In American Schools
The United States is unique in the way that it holds people of all ethnicities and races. This large
mixture of people results in a variety of languages being spoken every day in every type of
situation. In other countries, there is a common language but in America, we are able to speak
practically every language. This diversity in our country is progressive and holds many advantages,
such as comprehension and connectivity.
An understanding is critical, in all types of environments, to accomplishing any endeavor. Some
instances in which comprehension is necessary is in school. Students in American schools come
from all corners of the globe, which often coincides with language barriers between students and
other students or students and their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we all spoke the same language, language wouldn t be a conversation piece anymore. Often
times, people will connect because they both speak English and French. This coincidence
creates a common similarity between the two persons. Also, being able to speak a different
language from the others in a particular area gives a conversation security. People often
transition from English to another language when talking about something they don t want
another person to hear. Okay, so you know... Deja me decir lo en espaГ±ol. Lo odio. Although
this sounds more like isolation than connection, it is actually a more personal connection
between relationships. Being able to speak a different language with someone exclusively is
often a way friends can be connected and stand apart from others, Just as family finds a bond
between sharing heir own language, friends and coworkers can also feel this, as America allows
us to. In cases that a person may not speak English, a person being able to speak theiir native
language also creates a link between the two. America s diversity in language guarantees that no

Analysis Of Mckibben s Sweetest Of Sweet Spots
In the first chapter of Eearth, McKibben states that for the majority of human existence we have
lived in the sweetest of sweet spots . This is a reference to Earth when it had a correct
temperature for sustaining a diverse world. This diverse world had contained all walks of life that
it was able to sustain due to the globally average temperature. Later in that chapter, McKibben
states we no longer live on that planet, and that it might as well have a different name because of
how much this planet has changed. The purpose of this paper is to structuralize McKibben s
thought process through a summary of why the increase of carbon dioxideemissions has created and
is still creating an alternative Earth, while exploring why it is so hard for civilization to cut down
on these carbon emissions. First it is important to observe the changes that have taken place. The
planet has nearly raised a degree Celsius. While the Earth has been getting warmer, there have
been a couple of significant changes in weather patterns and other physical characteristics that
have taken place to make this place seem alien to us. For example, there has been six percent
more lightning around the world. This has caused more fires that have destroyed habitats for all
living things in that specific area. There also has been a change in rain patterns due to the tropics
expanding, which has made it unpredictable to figure out where and when to grow crops for food.

The Role Of Social Norms In Jerzy Kosinski s
Jerzy Kosinski s novella Being There depicts how social norms affect the socialization of
individuals and displays individuals ability to alter their presentation of self within particular
situations. Kosinski plays with symbolism and the power of names by presenting the character
Chance, who self identifies himself as the gardener, and who acquired his name by being born by
chance. Chance, renamed as Chauncey Gardiner by his peers, has limited social and
communication skills due to being bound to his home with the Old Man, who took him in from
birth. Chance now acting as Chauncey takes on the social role of an upper class, intelligent,
business man, prompting him to be thrown into the world of politics with the elite. Surprisingly,

This miscommunication was caused by Chance s attempt to follow social cues and mirror the
actions he saw depicted on television. Although he did not always understand social situations fully,
Chance s ability to adapt to the change in his social environment is due to the skills and norms he
learned from watching television at the Old Man s home. Despite a few moments of confusion,
Chance acting as Chauncey was able to convince those around him that he was a businessman with
insight on economics, not that he was just faking it. The character Chance takes on the public role
of Chauncey Gardiner in Jerzy Kosinski s novella Being There, showcasing Goffman s
dramaturgical analysis of the social production of the self identity through symbolic character
names, defined situational social roles, and a social and public script, thus resulting in Chance
having two separate identities, a personal and a

Analysis Of Gerard Genette s Glossary Of Poetic Terms
In recent years, the term narratology has often been associated principally with European
structuralism [1], bolstered by the work of Gerard Genette, perhaps one of the most famous
narrative theorists. Rather than other theorists, such as Todorov, who s work on the influence of the
protagonist on a narrativeequilibrium has too provided an insight into different forms and varieties
of narratives [2], Genette is more concerned with breaking down the mechanics and processes
behind a story, shifting away from the characters and their respective character arcs. He argues that
the principalities behind explaining narratologyexist in the routine in which the story is presented.
In simpler terms, his interest is not in the story itself, but how it is told. [3} In this essay, I will use
this as an analytical tool for taking apart a selected narrative.
Any good author, playwright, or poet will always tell you that forms of literature will always
contain a message. This may be personal, or historical for instance, but underneath the visual and
auditory sugar coat of graphology and literary techniques, there always exists an underlying
message to influence and engage the reader. This could be ambiguous, or easily recognised, or
perhaps in between. One prominent branch of writing subsists in between free verse and poetry,
in what is known as Prose . More specifically, The Glossary of Poetic Terms (2006) [4] states it is a
piece of writing which features the charged language

Buddhism, Hinduism, But Still From India
If you did not follow Hinduism, but still from India, you may follow Buddhism. This religion
founded in North eastern India is based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama known as the
Buddha. In most Buddhist traditions, he is regarded as the Supreme Buddha meaning awakened
one or the enlightened one . Originating as a monastic movement within the dominant Brahman
tradition of the day, Buddhismquickly developed in a distinctive direction than Hinduism. The
Buddha rejected significant aspects of Hindu philosophy, but also he challenged the authority of the
priesthood. He denied the validity of the Vedic scriptures, and rejected the sacrificial cult based on
them. Moreover, he opened his movement to members of all castes, denying that a person s
spiritual worth is a matter of birth or class. Buddhism analyzes human existence as made up of five
aggregates: the material body, the feelings, the perceptions, the predispositions, and the
consciousness. A person is only a temporary combination of these aggregates, which are subject to
continual change. No one of these aggregates remains the same for any two consecutive moments.
Buddhists deny that the five aggregates (our material body, our feelings, our perceptions, our
predispositions, and our consciousness), individually or in combination, may be considered a
permanent and independently existing self or soul (atman). They regard it as a mistake to conceive
of any lasting unity behind the elements that constitute an

The Power of Superstition Essays
The Power of Superstition
A superstition is the belief or practice resulting from ignorance, fear of the unknown, trust in magic
or chance, or a false conception of causation. Superstition is also an irrational abject attitude of
mind toward the supernatural, nature, or God or a notion maintained despite evidence to the
contrary (Merriam Webster). Superstitions are the most common relic of the past handed down
from the ages. When where did superstition come from? There is an abundance of superstitions to
date.
Basic superstitions can be broken down into three broad categories: Predictive, Causative and
Conversion. Predictive superstitions are when people believe that a particular superstition will
predict an oncoming event. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The history of superstition states that the ladder and ground forms a triangle representing a holy
symbol from Egyptian times or a holy trinity from Christianity, therefore, by walking through the
triangle is denoted as bad luck (Origin).
Throwing salt over your left shoulder is the most known conversion superstition. Throwing salt
over your left shoulder diverts the bad luck; you received when you spilt the salt. This superstition
started in 1881, it states you have spilt salt on the table, and then thrown over your left shoulder the
bad luck is averted (Opie, Tatem 343).
Another common superstition is Friday the 13th. Many reasons exist for why Friday the 13th was
deemed to be unlucky. It is believed to have started at the expelling of Adam Eve from Garden of
Eden. People believe that they were sent from paradise on Friday.
It is also believe that the Noah s flood started and Jesus was crucified on a Friday. It is also known
that there were 13 at the Last Supper when Judas betrayed Jesus. Judas was the thirteenth guest at
the table for the Last Supper (Origin).
Friday is regarded to be the most superstitious day compared to all of the other days of the week.

The Psychosexual Stages Of Development
Psychosexual Stages of Development In the second essay of his Three Essays on Sexuality
(1905), Freud theorized that every child is born with innate sexual impulses that develop as the
child grows. He proposed stages of psychosexual development that each child goes through until
he or she reaches puberty. This chapter investigates if these stages of development are in fact,
universal and the nature of their presence in the cultural society of Hindu India. According to
Freud (1905), the new born child s innate sexual impulses can only be observed in the child once
he reaches the age of three. He stated that the development of this infantile sexuality took place
in a periodic and oscillating manner after a brief period of development, it is suppressed in a
state of latency till the sexual development takes over. Although he states that he does not know
the reason for this pattern, he also adds that it is during this period of latency that the aesthetic
and moral ideals develop which by feelings of disgust and shame restrict the flow of the sexual
instinct. These ideals develop inherently, even without any help from external education. While the
impulses are not ceased entirely during the period of latency, their energy is diverted to other ends
by the process of sublimation and results in the development of the individual (ibid: 176). While
the final outcome of the sexual development is the pursuit of pleasure from a single, primary
erotogenic source directed towards a

Cultural Litivism Vs. Ethical Relativism
The topic of my paper is Cultural Relativism vs. Ethical Relativism.
The purpose of this paper is to justify the intervening in another country because of cultural
practices we believe are unethical. Relativism is actually the concept, which tells that when it
comes to a viewpoint there is no complete or impartial truth. Rather, the truth contains subjectivity,
which is related to specific perceiving behavior. Cultural relativism and ethical relativism both are
the philosophies that are connected to relativism in some way or other. In order to make the
difference between cultural relativism and ethical relativism, it is important to understand the word
ethics that defines the whole morality study. Ethics is basically the branch of philosophy that tries
to interpret those things and actions, which seem morally right and are universally acceptable.
Ethics is basically the criteria, which we set about what is right for other people and also for the
society as well. The principles of ethics are usually derived from cultural, philosophical and
religious values. Decisions about what is ethically right or wrong have altered over time to time.
Ethics also permits the examination of moral standards within a society, permitting questions to
whether they are reasonable or unreasonable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

immoral while in another culture they may seem as moral. Fundamentally, the cultural relativism is

what is right or wrong among different cultural activities which ultimately originated the cultural
relativism concept around the whole world. This term is widely accepted by all

the reader. A big part of irony in the story is how his cousin Harold swallowed a bee when he was

Learning Changes Students Learning Essay
Collective learning changes students learning style to a more effective way. With the combination
of technology and in class group activities, collective learning as an educational method becomes
more fun and acceptable. Duke University brought the iPod as an academic device and use for the
educational experiment to all first year students. The iPodinverts the traditional role of music player
into a useful study tool. Students can not only listen to music, but also use the iPod as an academic
device to share knowledge and communicate with others. People from outside Duke University can
also have the access to these shared documents, which makes everyone have the same opportunity
to learn. In Project Classroom Makeover, the author Cathy Davidson introduces the use of the iPod
for an educational experiment for collective learning, which brings out the idea of crowdsourcing.
Crowdsourcing is a group of students will share their ideas and solve the problem together, which
is one way of collective learning. At Duke University, the introduce and widespread of collective
learning have enhanced the educationinto a higher level; whereas, collective learning has played
both positive roles and negative roles in education. Positively, collective learning makes students
regain the interest of studying and improving students social skills, which would increase the
likelihood of students to success in the future; however, negatively, students might over relying on

The History of Insane Asylums Essay
What comes to mind when you hear the words insane asylum ? Do such terms as lunatic, crazy,
scary, or even haunted come to mind? More than likely these are the terminology that most of us
would use to describe our perception of insane asylums. However, those in history that had a heart s
desire to treat the mentally ill compassionately and humanely had a different viewpoint. Insane
asylums were known for their horrendous treatment of the mentally ill, but the ultimate purpose in
the reformation of insane asylums in the nineteenth century was to improve the treatment for the
mentally ill by providing a humane and caring environment for them to reside. The mentally ill

and unbelievable. In the eighteenth century at Bethlem Royal Hospital in London, the public
could pay a penny for a privilege to watch the freaks ; they could poke the caged patients with a
long stick (Taylor). Overcrowding was a huge issue in the insane asylums. In 1900 based on the
authority of the Lunacy Commissioners report, it was stated that there was one registered lunatic
per every three hundred people. (Chapman 164). Danvers State Hospital was built in 1878 to
house 500 patients. This institution had over 2300 patients at its peak in the 1940s (Taylor). The
over population of insane asylums began to deteriorate them and make them some of the most
horrible places that existed. The conditions in these institutions were barely livable. The workers
were also mean to the patients and did many awful things to them. There were too many patients
and not enough nurses and doctors. This made the nurses work harder and put a lot more stress on
them ( Pennhurst State ). In the 1950s, the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum was occupied by over
2500 people. However, it was built to occupy only 250 people. The conditions were so filthy that

Goodwill Balance Sheet
GOODWILL
What is the definition of Goodwill?
Goodwill is an intangible asset that mostly appears as the biggest intangible asset on the balance
sheet. The Goodwill can only be identified with the business as a whole. Therefore, the goodwill
cannot be sold individually in the marketplace, while some other intangible assets can be sold.
Goodwill is not easy to measure, because it includes exceptional management, desirable locations,
customer relations, and so on. The determination of the Goodwill is therefore most of the time very
subjective.
Companies only record the goodwill when there is an exchange transaction the involves the
purchase of an entire business.

Goodwill booking in the balance sheet
According to Harold Averkamp (2015), Goodwill is reported on the balance sheet as a noncurrent
asset.
Since 2001, U.S. companies are no longer required/allowed to amortize the recorded amount of
goodwill.
In accounting we use the word amortization to mean the systematic allocation of a balance sheet
item to expense (or revenue) on the income statement. Harold Averkamp (2015)
The amortization of an asset means that a company is allowed to split the value of the expenses
stated in the income statement over several months instead of a one time booking.
However, the amount of goodwill is subject to a goodwill impairment test at least once per year.
The companies have to verify at least once a year if the value of their assets is aligned with the fair
value of the market.
The test verifies if the value of the assets is bigger than the market value. An adjustment is
recorded in order to bring the value of the asset at the fair value in case of inequality.

10 Things Only Saxophone Players Would Understand
10 Things Only Saxophone Players Would Understand
This article is dedicated to my fellow musicians who play saxophone, and more specifically to
those who love it. The reasons why we started playing saxophone are endless. Ranging from
because we loved the sound that it created or just because we admired how shiny it was. Whether
you started playing saxophone 50 years ago or yesterday, you are a part of this exclusive group.
Welcome to the family. Deciding to play the saxophone will change your life. There will be
moments when you are playing that you feel so full inside, so content that you feel that all the
world is the way it is supposed to be. You will also endure hardships. It won t always be smooth

Even if you are still on a Rico two and a half, you are still going to have to give it a generous
amount of your carbon dioxide. To make it through a song, musicians learn how to breathe from
their diaphragm. Although that helps, the song Pomp and Circumstance is going to be the death of
me (saxophone holds tied whole notes for the majority of the song)!
Your Cork Grease Gets Mistaken For Chap Stick
Does this scenario sound familiar? You say, Mom I need chap stick. Mom says, I just saw some in
your room. You reply saying, Uh, that s cork grease. Or how about when you reach your hand back
behind you for your chap stick during band practice, and accidentally grab the cork grease and
carelessly rub it all over your lips. It s ok; they look a lot alike.
Your Reed Defines Your Day
Having a reed crack ruins your day. Reeds are expensive, plus it takes time to break another one
in. The taste of a new reed is not appealing either. To be honest, reeds are the main reason I have
trust issues. When a reed squeaks... that means it basically just gave me permission to hate it.
Also, saying, No sorry, I don t have any reeds left, to a fellow reedless saxophone player is the
biggest lie

Analysis of Elizabeth Bishops the Moose
Elizabeth Bishop s The Moose is a narrative poem of 168 lines. Its twenty eight six line stanzas
are not rigidly structured. Lines vary in length from four to eight syllables, but those of five or six
syllables predominate. The pattern of stresses is lax enough almost to blur the distinction between
verse and prose; the rhythm is that of a low keyed speaking voice hovering over the descriptive
details. The eyewitness account is meticulous and restrained.
The poem concerns a bus traveling to Boston through the landscape and towns of New Brunswick.
While driving through the woods, the bus stops because a moose has wandered onto the road. The
appearance of the animal interrupts the peaceful hum of elderly passengers voices. ... Show more

Thus the first part, devoted to the landscape, is richly descriptive, replete with qualifying epithets
that, toward the end (in line 75 and in line 81), come in by threes, like beads on a string. In the
second part, dealing with the passengers plight, learned, latinate words such as divagation, auditory,
hallucination, eternity, and acceptance signal the presence of the narrator commentator. In the third
partВ—the one reserved for the mooseВ—epithets return. In the climactic twenty fourth stanza, the
most distinctly poetic devicesВ—explicit comparisonsВ—are bestowed on the protagonist: high as
a church,/ homely as a house. Moreover, the four additional epithets lavished on the moose
contribute to the grandeur of its appearance: towering, antlerless, and grand, otherworldly.
By careful calibration and timing of her tropes, Bishop succeeds superbly in achieving her ends.
Contrast is attained by her control over all compartments of language, and her austere, restrained
tone and strategy of deferral and understatement are dramatically effective.
Themes and Meanings The Moose is ultimately about the human need to be purged and, if
possible, cured of selfhood. Self absorption or narcissism is not only a passing malaise afflicting
teenagers. Older people regard themselves in the mirror of their

Audit Tenure, Industry Specialization, and Firm Site...
The objective of this study is to evaluate audit tenure, industry specialization, and firm size and its
correlation to financial restatements. A client s restatements suggest low audit quality because it
indicates that the client s financial statements are not in line with GAAP. I analyzed a sample of
250 firm year restatements from public companies during 2008 to 2012. I gathered the data using
COMPUSTAT and AuditAnalytics. For my results, I have found that auditor tenure has a negative
correlation with financial restatement. I also found that industry expertise has a negative
correlation with financial restatements. Further, it appears that firm size has no correlation with
financial restatements. In conclusion, it turns out my... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only do these effects occur immediately after the announcement of a restatement, but there
could be long term effects as well, tarnishing the reputation of an audit firm if it affects a big client.
I used restatements as my dependent variable. Here, RESTATE is coded 1 for each firm year a
company restated its financials, and 0 otherwise.
Auditor Tenure TENURE will be one of my experimental variables. This variable is measured using
the natural log of years the audit firms audit their clients. Using auditor data from COMPUSTAT
database, we use tenure to determine the number of years the auditor has been working with the
client from the original issued financial statement to the years up to/ after the financial restatement.
Industry Knowledge Here, EXPERT is my second experimental variable. I used relative
specialization as an indicator for industry expertise. According to Abbott and Parker (2000), relative
specialization produces effective results in identifying which auditor had the biggest impact on the
auditing client. To have industry knowledge, the auditing firm must audit clients with the top sales

Nuclear Waste Disposal Essay example
Nuclear Waste Disposal
As the millenium approaches, we are faced with the problems created by our technological
advances. Everyday we are forced to see the results, from acid rain to polluted beaches. But there
is one problem in particular that will probably out live our generation and the generation which has
created it. If properly contained and monitored, it has little affect on us and our environment.
However, once it is free of it s containment, it is a destructive and deadly force. This problem is
nuclear waste.
Thirty thousand metric tons of spent fuel rods from power reactors and another 380,000 cubic
meters of high level radioactive waste, have been produced in the United States since the beginning
of the nuclear age. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a nuclear reactor of a nuclear power plant, the fission process is contained within the
zirconium or magnesium cladding that surrounds the fuel rods. The fuel rods are spent after the
fission takes place. They are highly radioactive and give off dangerous gamma radiation, which is
similar to X ray and can therefore penetrate through a human body. It is necessary to shield the
spent fuel rods with water and thick lead walls (Bertell, 1985). These fuel rods and their contents,
are essentially what comprises nuclear waste and is what needs to be kept secure for hundreds of
thousands of years.
Two types of radiation
There are two types of radiation; particle and penetrating. Penetrating radiation or gamma radiation,
can pass through human tissue and damages cell functions. After about 500 years, gamma radiation
in nuclear fuel waste drops to low enough levels that it poses no real threat to humans (AECB,
1992). Particle radiation includes alphan and beta radiation. This type of radiation is given off by
the longer lived radioactive substances. This means that the substances remain hazardous for many
thousands of years. Neither these types can penetrate human tissue. However, they can affect cell
function and therefore cause cancer if the radioactive substance has been ingested or inhaled

Symbolism In Stephen King s Movie It
Due to how interested I am with this captivating film, I once again decided to research a review on
the movie IT directed by Andy Muschiettie. Specifically looking for an article discussing
symbolism I stumbled upon Stephen King s It is the rare monster movie with too much monster
written by Tahsa Robinson. Collectively, the passage discusses many elements of symbols in the
film, but ultimately leads back to how the title monster makes appearance too often (Robinson).
However, I disagree with this statement because the creature is presented to remind the audience
that It is always there; terrorizing its prey before consumption as one would season a piece of
meat before a meal. This directing style of presenting the monster in the beginning and often
throughout is different from that of other movie that keep the monster hidden to build suspense
and fear. Having It on screen in multiple scenes allows terror to build for the victims or, in the
case of the film, for the victims to develop bravery in the face of fear. I do agree with the author s
analysis on the aspects of the film and the symbols presented to the audience. In particular, I whole
heartedly agree with what she states about one of the adolescent characters:... Show more content on

Should High School Athletes Make Dollars
Should Athletes Make Millions? Most young athletes think that you are guaranteed a scholarship in
high school for playing sports. This is not exactly true so donВґt bet youВґre money on it. Only
about 2 percents of high school athletes win sports scholarships every year. I do not think that
once you become a professional athlete you should be making millions annually. First and
foremost, most professional athletes make millions of dollars a year for sports and I disagree
with it. Sports such as football are recreational sports. To make a living more than most
americans for just getting onto a field and playing is crazy. More needed or important jobs such
as teachers, police officers, and fire departments make less than these athletes. One day when the
work is not proportional enough to the work and I feel like these workers may get tired. The
president of the United States of America makes less than most of the athletes. Raises should be

I believe that the Quebec Act is the best act when the majority of the people living in the

The Inspiring Legacy of Corrie ten Boom
We must tell people, Corrie. We must tell them what we learned, said Betsie. The Hiding Place,
by Corrie ten Boom, is the biography of a woman in Holland during the Holocaust. The book
starts out in 1937, in Haarlem, Holland. Corrie and her family were Christians who hid Jews
from persecution by the German soldiers. Corrie was forced to make decisions and take actions
all throughout different periods in her life. When her mother fell ill, she learned to care for
someone who couldn t do anything for her. During the time when the family was hiding the Jews,
she was forced to be brave and strong. Finally, when her family was taken to the concentration

Reluctantly but bravely, Corrie told a lie when asked whether or not they had more than one radio.
She answered with No, when in fact another was hidden in their home. The ten Booms learned to
trust in God when faced with fear, and He helped them to be brave during the underground period.
Despite their efforts, the ten Boom family was captured and taken to concentration camps, although
the Jews in the house were not found. Casper, Corrie s father, died ten days later, and Nollie was
released eventually, but Betsie and Corrie stayed imprisoned. Unfortunately, they were subjected to
horrific conditions, and they witnessed the deaths of many innocent people. For many people, the
concentration camp would have been the end of their work, but for Corrie and Betsie the months
they spent in RavensbrГјck became their finest hour. Corrie described how she struggled with and
overcame the hate that she had for the man who betrayed her family. Holding secret worship
services, Corrie and Betsie were able to comfort the inmates and share the love of Christ. Although
Betsie eventually died of sickness, Corrie was able to continue her legacy within the concentration
camps and beyond, in her ministry. The Hiding Place is a fascinating story of Corrie ten Boom
during the Holocaust, who overcame fear, pain, and tragedy with the help of her family and God.

Thus seeing the protagonist s obsession with superheroes and his fantasies of exacting justice upon

be afraid. His superhero persona also has a star shaped mouth hole evocative of Captain America,
who has stars proudly portrayed all over his outfit that symbolizes truth, justice, and freedom.
Of course, depending on their background, someone in the target age group may develop an
opposing position to some of the scenes depicted. For instance, some may think that the
depiction of bullying is wholly inaccurate and misleading, as actual physical violence is rare and
usually only occurs in private areas. Rather, bullying is usually emotional or verbal, like
spreading rumours or name calling, as that s more subtle and likely to pass under teachers or
other students radars. As well, the look the bully gives the protagonist at the end as he leads his

Religion And Religion
The incorporation of religion into a person s life displays how a belief in gods can impact every
facet of someone s life. The entirety of religion is based solely on faith and the willpower of
someone s belief in what has been taught to them. In these teachings, through sacred texts,
manuscripts, or orally transmitted; the basis of many religions is the idea of an object, person, or
building being sacred. The reason something becomes sacred and is then believed to be sacred is
because the sacred manifests itself and makes itself become known to man. This is what separates
the religious man from the profane man, the idea that items can be sacred, and the belief that they
are sacred. Eliade points out that the profane man experiences life uniformly neutral, he does not
have something that shapes his life like religiondoes . The objective of religious architects was to
separate the holy world and the profane world by utilizing sacred space to allow for a relationship
between believers and the cosmos. In many religious systems around the world, there were thought
to be three cosmic levels, heaven (or nirvana, etc.), earth, and hell (or the underworld, land of the
dead, etc.). The religious man believed that the axis mundi , center of the world, linked all three
cosmic levels together. The different religions had different centers of the world, and all of them
were built using various types of architecture, which reflected their own specific culture. In

Importance of Free Speech
College is a time when most individuals are experiencing major changes and begin to explore new
perspectives. The transition in becoming more independent, creating new insights and peer
influence are key factors in changing the perspective of an individual. Students are faced with new
ideas from their professors, family and fellow peers. Through that acquired knowledge many
students decide that they either agree or disagree with the perspectives that they are taught.

Despite their opinions, free speech was a great way in this situation for students to rally together
and publically inform the rest of campus of their beliefs. In the school newspaper, The Daily

Free speech often has negative connotations because the negative outcomes are publicized more
than the positive outcomes. Free Speech is a time for individuals to express their beliefs and topic

holding signs, making t shirts, shouting, etc. People who chose to present themselves in disrupting

Ocean Map
Since the start of the 21st Century, countries that border the Arctic Ocean have begun to claim
sections of the Arctic seabed as their sovereign territory in hopes of obtaining potential oil and gas
that may exist there. As a result of this trend, cartographers created maps to show the regions
claimed by those countries, though not all maps succeed in presenting the territorial rights in an
understandable way. Of the two maps analyzed, the Arctic Sea Routes map triumphs in depicting
the regional disputes in a simple way, while the Durham Arctic Map is better suited for someone
who desires to understand the conflict beyond basics. The Artic Sea Routes map reveals that
travelling through the Arctic region for trade greatly reduces transit time. The title map suggests
that the map focuses on maritime paths through the Arctic. Centered on Iceland and including parts
of Africa on the map, the Sea Routes map, due to a focus on trade and therefore the ability of
boats to travel through a region, differentiates between ice and ocean. The Sea Routes map shows

Effects Of Sweatshops
Terrible Sweatshops: The Examination of the Unethicalness
Figure 1 (Lewin)
FORCED TO WORK EXHAUSTING HOURS this is the label which a woman who bought a
summer dress at Primark found (See figure 1). The message was a cry for help from workers and
implies the harsh environment for the people in a sweatshop (Lewin). The word sweatshop was
made in the end of 1800s. The definition of the sweatshop is broad but it describes any
workplace where people are forced poor conditions and long hours of works with low wages
(Annabelle). The US Department of Labor defined a sweatshop as a factory which violates two
or more labor laws (DoSomething.org). People in developed countries tend to enjoy buying
cheaper products and do not care about the reality of the process they have made. In fact, many
women and children are forced to work in sweatshops in developing countries. Some corporations
such as NIKE, GAP and Wal Mart have already revealed those facts but the problem has not been
solved yet (Bakan). Actually, those are just few of the companies involved in sweatshop labor. By
using sweatshops, many corporations reduce their production costs. And millions of people still

My Experience In My First Day Of College
It was a warm and sunny day, I was able to sleep until eleven o clock in the mooring. I woke up
got dressed and attended my first college class. Walking across campus, I saw familiar faces
from freshman orientation back in June. I felt comfortable starting my first day of college. I
told myself that this was a new chapter in my life, and I wanted to make something special of it.
I wanted to make a difference. My number one goal was to get myself known. I made so many
friends by just simply making small talk. I know so many faces on campus and I can not wait to
see what the future has in store for me. My personal involvement at Adelphi is the reason why I
have made so many friends here at Adelphi. Starting back in June at Freshman Orientation, I got
involved. I took it upon myself to break the ice within my group. Others were really shy, but I
wanted to include everyone and make my three day experience worth it. Coming back in August
was exciting, I got to meet even more people. Meeting people from all different parts on New
York, America, and the world. I think it is so cool that my neighbors are from Japan. They even
gave me some Japanese snacks. The first week at Adelphi was stressful. I really was not used to
living away from home and I got home sick. After going home the first weekend, I cam back
stronger than ever. My email box was flooding with emails from Adelphi. Emails about getting
involved, joining clubs, and events. I attended Caliber which is an awesome club

Two Kinds of Love in Movie Casablanca Essay
Two Kinds of Love in Movie Casablanca
In the movie Casablanca, directed by Michael Curtiz, two different kinds of love are exposed.
The love relationship between Ilsa Lund and Rick is a more passionate relationship while the one
between Ilsa and Victor Laszlo is more intimate. Love is composed of different feelings and
because of that it can be expressed, as seen in Casablanca, in different ways. The Intimate
Relationship Mind , a text by Garth J. O. Fletcher and Megan Stenswick, helps support that claim
providing a scientific background on how love is shaped by those different feelings. It says that love
is composed of three distinct and basic components that each represent evolved adaptations; namely,
intimacy, commitment, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If two lovers do not share their past with each other it is clear that they are not exactly intimate
or committed. Intimacy and commitment would require trust and sharing things besides their
own bodies, it seems that was not their case. The Intimate Relationship Mind says that in flings
or one night stands, passion can run high, whereas intimacy and commitment are probably low
(75). Rick and Ilsa s relationship seemed to work like that. Nevertheless, there was a moment
when Rick s feeling started to develop and he started to want more intimacy and commitment.
That moment was when the Nazis invaded Paris, and Rick and Ilsa decided to run away. Rick
proposed to Ilsa and she didn t really accept. When Ilsa stood Rick up in the train station the
intimacy and commitment that he wanted faded away, just like the writing on the letter faded
away because of the rain. In his face, however, it could still be seen that the passion remained
there. In the end of the movie when Rick says: We ll always have Paris. We didn t have, we d
lost it, until you came to Casablanca. We got it back last night. He seems to accept that all he and
Ilsa have ever had was a passionate relationship and that it was not supposed to last forever.
The other love relationship portrayed in Casablanca is the intimate relationship between Ilsa and
Laszlo. As opposed to the relationship between Ilsa and Rick, this one has high levels of

Pros And Cons Of School Lunches
For 13 years we all go to school and with that comes school lunches. There are always the select
few that consistently brown bag it through out their career but I am sure at some point they have
slid their tray down the line to get instant reduced fat mashed potatoes and whole wheat tortilla
chips. Schoollunches may not have always been good but they have never been worse than they are
now.
Since Barack Obama became president and his wife became First Lady there have many changes in
what we eat at school. According to Kate Murphy in the article Why Students Hate
School Lunches the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act which passed in 2012, watches the sodium, fat,
and calories of meals. They are now more focused on good proteins and more fruits and vegetables.
Other than mandating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With these changes, schools cannot afford to receive good tasting food so it forces many to pack a
brown bag in the morning.
With many students packing a lunch instead of buying from the school it hurts the income for
schools. According to Jeffery Solochek in the article Students Complain Portions Too Small
Under New School Lunch Menus Julie Hedine, Food and Nutritional Supervisor of Pasco
Halonen !2
Schools said the number of students buying school lunches is down 16% from the year before.
Chris Burkhardt the director of child nutrition and and wellness at the Lokota Local School
District stated they also lost revenue compared to previous years for them it was 15% (Murphy).
It is not just these two school districts that are hurting because of the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids
Act, 70 percent of schools in the meal program have been negatively affected (Murphy).
Since 2012 the portion sizes of foods and of the meals in general have greatly decreased and
students are speaking out. Whether it is making a funny video, writing about it in blogs, or simply
boycotting school lunches students are figuring out ways to be heard. In the

Why Do Mammals Increase Surface Area
All organisms require a large surface area in their gas exchange system, having a larger surface
area to volume ratio increases the efficiency on gas exchange. Each of the 3 organisms, diving
mammal, fish and aquatic insects all have a large surface area and have different ways of
increasing this. Diving mammals increase their surface area by folding the tissue on the alveoli of
the gas exchange mechanism fold back on itself, these fold in the alveoli increase the surface area.
Fish have filaments and lamellae in the gills which are very long and thing increasing the surface
area to volume ratio. The filaments in the gills fold copious times and then the lamellae found
inside the filaments also found numerous times increasing the surface area

Summary Of The Last Of The Mohicans
Throughout Cooper s novel the reader and Hawkeye are provided with many oppositions and
situations based on Culture, Race, and Geography that creates many tensions throughout the
novel. The Last of the Mohicans tends to be centered on the Character Hawkeye, a pathfinder
and pioneer that links the wilderness and civilization as mediation. The text itself is driven to be
a generic paradox and an encompassing narrative, the history with romance and the disagreement
between fact and fiction. Cooper uses a blend of facts and fiction in many scenarios. The third
year of the Indian and French War The Last of The Mohicans suppresses the boundaries or
outlines that divide literature and history in order to create a narrative of American, within which
the real man can be understood. Hawkeye, who is so to say a typical American is between the
fiction and fact boundary. He links the people and the actual events of the period of time to fit right
in to Coopers genre. The Indian Nations, Fort William Henry massacre, Colonel Munroe, and
Marquis de Montcalm are all based on fact but then Cooper intertwines significant romance.
Coopers chosen genre, historical romance, is based on the movement between the stages of cultural
development or hostile civilizations. It allows cultural self awareness and analysis, which allows
the narrative expression. In a traditional narrative love is a quest rather than a cultural analysis. The
texts movement tracks the hero as he or she enters the unknown

The Attack On Pearl Harbor And 2001 Attacks On The World...
The United States (U.S) Intelligence community has come a long way since the revolutionary war.
After winning independence from England, the U.S would not invest much into intelligence or
foreign policy until the 20th century. Foreign policy was simply not a priority for our young nation,
having an ocean on eastern and Western boarders of the country severely limited potential threats.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt would be the first president since Washington to understand the
importance of intelligence and lay the groundwork for what we now consider national intelligence.
Unfortunately, it has taken two catastrophic failures in intelligence for the U.S to realize the need
for good intelligence and take steps to improve itself. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Unfortunately, due to the fractured state of U.S intelligence community, that was never a
possibility. This major intelligence failure was a wakeup call, and the goal of the U.S intelligence
community was now to prevent another such attack from happening. Cold WarIntelligence The
Cold War with the Soviet Union and its allies started almost immediately after the end of WWII,
and would be the next step for the U.S intelligence community. The signing of the National Security
Act of 1947 by president Truman drastically restructured the military and intelligence community,
creating the Department of Defense (DoD) and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) while
establishing a clear chain of command (CIA, 2008). With the establishment of the CIA and director
of central intelligence, The National Security Act of 1947 the U.S had a permanent and legitimized
intelligence community, one that could start to develop and refine their own methods of operation
and traditions (Lowenthal, 2017). The National Security Act of 1947 would go largely unchanged
for 57 years, not being severely altered until 2004. After Pearl Harbor the intelligence communities
primary function was to ensure that a catastrophe of that scale would not occur again. During the
cold war, the largest threat to the U.S was a nuclear war with the Soviet Union, so an extremely
large percentage of intelligence assets were focused on observing the Soviet nuclear program

The Ku Klux Klan (KK)
The Ku Klux Klan( K.K.K.) is a domestic terrorist organization established during the
Reconstruction era. Slavery was no longer a legal business during this time period but freedom
was hardly available to millions of newly freed blacks. The membership of the hate group was
dominated by lawmakers, more specifically republicans from Pulaski, Tennessee. White men and
women dressed in white robes and cone shaped masks and often rallied at night to terrorize black
communities. The mindsets of Klan members were centered on black and white no metaphor.
They felt that the white race was superior and blacks were inferior. In the southern states black
people were being murdered and terrorized by the thousands and because the Klan had direct
influences with the local police forces, judges, and medical professionals, there was no justice for
black victims.
The American government has a greater concern with combatting foreign terrorism than it does
with combatting domestic terrorist groups such as the KKK. Osama Bin Laden was a Saudi
Arabian Muslim extremist, who orchestrated multiple well planned attacks against America on
September 11, 2001. The 9/11 attack was one event that captured the entire nation but, the KKK has

America. The criminal justice system has more black people behind bars than any other race.

Compare And Contrast The Concepts Of Nationalism And...
HIST 803 Week Three Reading Reflections Two thing stood out to me in this week s readings,
although they are closely intertwined: the concepts of Canadian nationalism and Canadian national
identity. These concepts changed greatly between the three Canadian Prime Ministers tenures, St.
Laurent, Diefenbaker, and Pearson, respectively and how these concepts have continued to change
up to the present day. I have noticed that the majority of this week s readings tend to overlook St.
Laurent s, and his government s, contributions to these two issues for while the longstanding
Liberal government essentially continued MacKenzie King s policies. However they had to do it
in a rapidly Canadaand a rapidly changing world. During St. Laurent s time in office the British
Commonwealth declined in spectacular fashion while the United Statesrise, as an economic,
political, and military superpower was equally spectacular. Canada itself was also changing. The
Second World War had created economic prosperity for the vast majority of Canada s provinces
and the premiers were keen to use their newfound economic independence from Ottawa to create
their own provincial identities and depending on the Premier these identities could be vastly
different and I would say that Maurice Duplessis Quebec... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

With Diefenbaker s decision to cancel the Avro Arrow, the Progressive Conservatives essentially
destroyed Canada s military aircraft industry in favour of purchasing American military equipment.
When it comes to government policies, and how it relates to Canadian nationalism, I equate the
height of Canadian nationalism with Pierre Trudeau s economic and political policies; with the
creation of Petro Canada and enforcing the National Energy Program, and then a decline in
nationalism with the rise of neoliberalism in the late

Choosing The Correct Replacement For An Aged Roof
Choosing the correct replacement for an aged roof or identifying the best choice for a new
building is no easy task. The perfect roofing solution for one building may be the worst option for
another just down the street. That s because no two buildings are precisely alike, even if they
closely resemble each other. So how do you choose a new roof, given all the choices in the
marketplace? You can start by asking a series of questions, before you choose the roof, the roofing
contractor or the manufacturer.
1. What is this building s mission statement?
Before calls are made to roofing contractors or manufacturers, the first item to address is the
company s mission statement as it relates to the building.
Whether you are building new facilities or managing existing properties, you want to be confident
that the roofing systems you select deliver the performance you expect. More often than not, the
building itself dictates the appropriate roofing system specification.
You need to know as much about the building and its future as possible. Does the company plan to
keep this building as part of its real estate assets for the next 10 to 20 years? Are there any plans to
expand it in the near future, or to change its use? What are its current and future occupancy,
insulation requirements, aesthetic priorities and even the maintenance schedules for rooftop
equipment?
These and other mission statement issues will help shape answers to types of roofing to consider
and how much

This can be done by applying the action of the flowmap to the initial data $Y_{0}$ in order to $Y_{t}=phi_{t,t_{0}} circ Y_{t_{0}}$. Consider a function $fin Diff(R^{N})$, by using the chain rule, we obtain

Such equation has a solution $fcircphi_{t}=exp(tV)circ fcircphi_{t}$ as $phi_{0}=id$ Setting $f=id$ provides the representation of the flowmap as follows egin{center} $phi_{t}=exp(tV)$ end{center} Hence, in this considered case, the flowmap is the exponential of the vector field. Reasons for Increasing Popularity of Social Media Marketing Internet technology, marketing and security Reasons for increasing popularity of social media marketing The major reason why social media marketing is increasing in popularity is that it is greatly cost effective. This is because social media marketing helps the companies to reach a larger target market than traditional advertising channels. A second advantage of social media marketing is that it has huge potential for repeat exposure. This happens when as a result of the stickiness factor identified by ADDIN EN.CITE Trusov20091203Trusov, Bucklin, and Pauwels (2009)1203120317Trusov, M.,Bucklin, R.,Pauwels, K.,Effects of Word of Mouth Versus Traditional Marketing: Findings from an InternetSocial Networking Site.Journal of MarketingJournal of Marketing90 1027352009 HYPERLINK l _ENREF_7 o Trusov, 2009 #1203 Trusov, Bucklin, and Pauwels (2009). • 5. U.s. Federal Law Enforcement Agencies Terrorism has always existed in American policing, and while the groups committing these acts have changed, their intentions have not. Their intentions being to cause maximum fear and scare those who they target into doing and following their ideology. In the 1970 s and 1980 s in America, the main terrorist groups were associated with the environmental movement and race based groups, while other parts of the world were dealing with Islamic extremists, were committing terrorist acts across the Middle East without much intervention from the United States. In fact the group Al Qaeda, who attacked the World Trade Centers in 1993 and 2001, found its roots in the 1980 s fighting the Soviet Union in Afghanistan with weapons supplied by the Central Intelligence Agency. While the U.S. Federal Law Enforcement agencies knew of these groups, they underestimated the capabilities of lone wolf, small cell, and whole terrorist organizations. This was due to the fact that the Federal Law Enforcement agencies top priority was general crime such as organized crimes and white collar crime. In the 1900 s and early 2000 s a series of events would bring a change in priorities for Federal Law Enforcement, namely the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), which was on the brink of being dissolved. The Inspector General s 2003 report stated that prior to 9/11, the Bureau devoted significantly more special agent resources to traditional law enforcement activities such as white collar crime, ... In the recent years humanity hasn t been doing much to take care of the earth, and instead is destroying it in the name of progress. One of the harmful things that could really impact the environment is the North Dakota Pipeline. Some facts about the pipeline is that it is owned by Energy Transfer Partners who are the owners of Sunoco. Sunoco has had multiple onshore pipeline leaks and disasters that have devastated many environments. This large mixture of people results in a variety of languages being spoken every day in every type of situation. In other countries, there is a common language but in America, we are able to speak practically every language. This diversity in our country is progressive and holds many advantages, such as comprehension and connectivity. An understanding is critical, in all types of environments, to accomplishing any endeavor. Some instances in which comprehension is necessary is in school. People often transition from English to another language when talking about something they don t want another person to hear. Okay, so you know... Deja me decir lo en espaГ±ol. Lo odio. • 9. Analysis Of Mckibben s Sweetest Of Sweet Spots In the first chapter of Eearth, McKibben states that for the majority of human existence we have lived in the sweetest of sweet spots . This is a reference to Earth when it had a correct temperature for sustaining a diverse world. This diverse world had contained all walks of life that it was able to sustain due to the globally average temperature. Later in that chapter, McKibben states we no longer live on that planet, and that it might as well have a different name because of how much this planet has changed. The purpose of this paper is to structuralize McKibben s thought process through a summary of why the increase of carbon dioxideemissions has created and is still creating an alternative Earth, while exploring why it is so hard for civilization to cut down on these carbon emissions. First it is important to observe the changes that have taken place. The planet has nearly raised a degree Celsius. While the Earth has been getting warmer, there have been a couple of significant changes in weather patterns and other physical characteristics that have taken place to make this place seem alien to us. For example, there has been six percent more lightning around the world. This has caused more fires that have destroyed habitats for all living things in that specific area. There also has been a change in rain patterns due to the tropics expanding, which has made it unpredictable to figure out where and when to grow crops for food. In Australia the winds ... • 10. The Role Of Social Norms In Jerzy Kosinski s Jerzy Kosinski s novella Being There depicts how social norms affect the socialization of individuals and displays individuals ability to alter their presentation of self within particular situations. Kosinski plays with symbolism and the power of names by presenting the character Chance, who self identifies himself as the gardener, and who acquired his name by being born by chance. Chance, renamed as Chauncey Gardiner by his peers, has limited social and communication skills due to being bound to his home with the Old Man, who took him in from birth. Despite a few moments of confusion, Chance acting as Chauncey was able to convince those around him that he was a businessman with insight on economics, not that he was just faking it. The character Chance takes on the public role of Chauncey Gardiner in Jerzy Kosinski s novella Being There, showcasing Goffman s dramaturgical analysis of the social production of the self identity through symbolic character names, defined situational social roles, and a social and public script, thus resulting in Chance having two separate identities, a personal and a ... • 11. Analysis Of Gerard Genette s Glossary Of Poetic Terms In recent years, the term narratology has often been associated principally with European structuralism [1], bolstered by the work of Gerard Genette, perhaps one of the most famous narrative theorists. Rather than other theorists, such as Todorov, who s work on the influence of the protagonist on a narrativeequilibrium has too provided an insight into different forms and varieties of narratives [2], Genette is more concerned with breaking down the mechanics and processes behind a story, shifting away from the characters and their respective character arcs. He argues that the principalities behind explaining narratologyexist in the routine in which the story is presented. In simpler terms, his interest is not in the story itself, but how it is told. [3} In this essay, I will use this as an analytical tool for taking apart a selected narrative. Any good author, playwright, or poet will always tell you that forms of literature will always contain a message. This may be personal, or historical for instance, but underneath the visual and auditory sugar coat of graphology and literary techniques, there always exists an underlying message to influence and engage the reader. This could be ambiguous, or easily recognised, or perhaps in between. One prominent branch of writing subsists in between free verse and poetry, in what is known as Prose . More specifically, The Glossary of Poetic Terms (2006) [4] states it is a piece of writing which features the charged language ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Buddhism, Hinduism, But Still From India If you did not follow Hinduism, but still from India, you may follow Buddhism. This religion founded in North eastern India is based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama known as the Buddha. In most Buddhist traditions, he is regarded as the Supreme Buddha meaning awakened one or the enlightened one . Originating as a monastic movement within the dominant Brahman tradition of the day, Buddhismquickly developed in a distinctive direction than Hinduism. The Buddha rejected significant aspects of Hindu philosophy, but also he challenged the authority of the priesthood. He denied the validity of the Vedic scriptures, and rejected the sacrificial cult based on them. Moreover, he opened his movement to members of all castes, denying that a person s spiritual worth is a matter of birth or class. Buddhism analyzes human existence as made up of five aggregates: the material body, the feelings, the perceptions, the predispositions, and the consciousness. A person is only a temporary combination of these aggregates, which are subject to continual change. No one of these aggregates remains the same for any two consecutive moments. Buddhists deny that the five aggregates (our material body, our feelings, our perceptions, our predispositions, and our consciousness), individually or in combination, may be considered a permanent and independently existing self or soul (atman). They regard it as a mistake to conceive of any lasting unity behind the elements that constitute an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Superstition is also an irrational abject attitude of mind toward the supernatural, nature, or God or a notion maintained despite evidence to the contrary (Merriam Webster). Superstitions are the most common relic of the past handed down from the ages. When where did superstition come from? There is an abundance of superstitions to date. This superstition started in 1881, it states you have spilt salt on the table, and then thrown over your left shoulder the bad luck is averted (Opie, Tatem 343). Another common superstition is Friday the 13th. Many reasons exist for why Friday the 13th was deemed to be unlucky. It is believed to have started at the expelling of Adam Eve from Garden of Eden. People believe that they were sent from paradise on Friday. It is also believe that the Noah s flood started and Jesus was crucified on a Friday. • 14. The Psychosexual Stages Of Development Psychosexual Stages of Development In the second essay of his Three Essays on Sexuality (1905), Freud theorized that every child is born with innate sexual impulses that develop as the child grows. He proposed stages of psychosexual development that each child goes through until he or she reaches puberty. This chapter investigates if these stages of development are in fact, universal and the nature of their presence in the cultural society of Hindu India. According to Freud (1905), the new born child s innate sexual impulses can only be observed in the child once he reaches the age of three. He stated that the development of this infantile sexuality took place in a periodic and oscillating manner after a brief period of development, it is suppressed in a state of latency till the sexual development takes over. Although he states that he does not know the reason for this pattern, he also adds that it is during this period of latency that the aesthetic and moral ideals develop which by feelings of disgust and shame restrict the flow of the sexual instinct. These ideals develop inherently, even without any help from external education. While the impulses are not ceased entirely during the period of latency, their energy is diverted to other ends by the process of sublimation and results in the development of the individual (ibid: 176). The purpose of this paper is to justify the intervening in another country because of cultural practices we believe are unethical. Relativism is actually the concept, which tells that when it comes to a viewpoint there is no complete or impartial truth. Rather, the truth contains subjectivity, which is related to specific perceiving behavior. Cultural relativism and ethical relativism both are the philosophies that are connected to relativism in some way or other. In order to make the difference between cultural relativism and ethical relativism, it is important to understand the word ethics that defines the whole morality study. Ethics is basically the branch of philosophy that tries to interpret those things and actions, which seem morally right and are universally acceptable. Ethics is basically the criteria, which we set about what is right for other people and also for the society as well. • 19. Learning Changes Students Learning Essay Collective learning changes students learning style to a more effective way. With the combination of technology and in class group activities, collective learning as an educational method becomes more fun and acceptable. Duke University brought the iPod as an academic device and use for the educational experiment to all first year students. The iPodinverts the traditional role of music player into a useful study tool. Students can not only listen to music, but also use the iPod as an academic device to share knowledge and communicate with others. People from outside Duke University can also have the access to these shared documents, which makes everyone have the same opportunity to learn. In Project Classroom Makeover, the author Cathy Davidson introduces the use of the iPod for an educational experiment for collective learning, which brings out the idea of crowdsourcing. Crowdsourcing is a group of students will share their ideas and solve the problem together, which is one way of collective learning. More than likely these are the terminology that most of us would use to describe our perception of insane asylums. However, those in history that had a heart s desire to treat the mentally ill compassionately and humanely had a different viewpoint. Insane asylums were known for their horrendous treatment of the mentally ill, but the ultimate purpose in the reformation of insane asylums in the nineteenth century was to improve the treatment for the mentally ill by providing a humane and caring environment for them to reside. Needless to say the treatment of the insane was horrid and unbelievable. In the eighteenth century at Bethlem Royal Hospital in London, the public could pay a penny for a privilege to watch the freaks ; they could poke the caged patients with a long stick (Taylor). Overcrowding was a huge issue in the insane asylums. In 1900 based on the authority of the Lunacy Commissioners report, it was stated that there was one registered lunatic per every three hundred people. (Chapman 164). Danvers State Hospital was built in 1878 to house 500 patients. This institution had over 2300 patients at its peak in the 1940s (Taylor). The over population of insane asylums began to deteriorate them and make them some of the most horrible places that existed. The conditions in these institutions were barely livable. The workers were also mean to the patients and did many awful things to them. There were too many patients and not enough nurses and doctors. This made the nurses work harder and put a lot more stress on them ( Pennhurst State ). In the 1950s, the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum was occupied by over 2500 people. However, it was built to occupy only 250 people. The conditions were so filthy that occupants began to get sick and die. Some people were euthanized during this time ... The Goodwill can only be identified with the business as a whole. Therefore, the goodwill cannot be sold individually in the marketplace, while some other intangible assets can be sold. Goodwill is not easy to measure, because it includes exceptional management, desirable locations, customer relations, and so on. The determination of the Goodwill is therefore most of the time very subjective. Companies only record the goodwill when there is an exchange transaction the involves the purchase of an entire business. When the company is purchased by another company, the goodwill ... Since 2001, U.S. companies are no longer required/allowed to amortize the recorded amount of goodwill. In accounting we use the word amortization to mean the systematic allocation of a balance sheet item to expense (or revenue) on the income statement. Harold Averkamp (2015) The amortization of an asset means that a company is allowed to split the value of the expenses stated in the income statement over several months instead of a one time booking. However, the amount of goodwill is subject to a goodwill impairment test at least once per year. The companies have to verify at least once a year if the value of their assets is aligned with the fair value of the market. The test verifies if the value of the assets is bigger than the market value. An adjustment is recorded in order to bring the value of the asset at the fair value in case of inequality. • 25. Analysis of Elizabeth Bishops the Moose Elizabeth Bishop s The Moose is a narrative poem of 168 lines. Its twenty eight six line stanzas are not rigidly structured. Lines vary in length from four to eight syllables, but those of five or six syllables predominate. The pattern of stresses is lax enough almost to blur the distinction between verse and prose; the rhythm is that of a low keyed speaking voice hovering over the descriptive details. The eyewitness account is meticulous and restrained. The poem concerns a bus traveling to Boston through the landscape and towns of New Brunswick. While driving through the woods, the bus stops because a moose has wandered onto the road. The appearance of the animal interrupts the peaceful hum of elderly passengers voices. ... In the third partВ—the one reserved for the mooseВ—epithets return. In the climactic twenty fourth stanza, the most distinctly poetic devicesВ—explicit comparisonsВ—are bestowed on the protagonist: high as a church,/ homely as a house. Moreover, the four additional epithets lavished on the moose contribute to the grandeur of its appearance: towering, antlerless, and grand, otherworldly. By careful calibration and timing of her tropes, Bishop succeeds superbly in achieving her ends. Contrast is attained by her control over all compartments of language, and her austere, restrained tone and strategy of deferral and understatement are dramatically effective. Collectively, the passage discusses many elements of symbols in the film, but ultimately leads back to how the title monster makes appearance too often (Robinson). The entirety of religion is based solely on faith and the willpower of someone s belief in what has been taught to them. In these teachings, through sacred texts, manuscripts, or orally transmitted; the basis of many religions is the idea of an object, person, or building being sacred. The reason something becomes sacred and is then believed to be sacred is because the sacred manifests itself and makes itself become known to man. This is what separates the religious man from the profane man, the idea that items can be sacred, and the belief that they are sacred. Eliade points out that the profane man experiences life uniformly neutral, he does not have something that shapes his life like religiondoes . The objective of religious architects was to separate the holy world and the profane world by utilizing sacred space to allow for a relationship between believers and the cosmos. • 41. Ocean Map Since the start of the 21st Century, countries that border the Arctic Ocean have begun to claim sections of the Arctic seabed as their sovereign territory in hopes of obtaining potential oil and gas that may exist there. As a result of this trend, cartographers created maps to show the regions claimed by those countries, though not all maps succeed in presenting the territorial rights in an understandable way. Of the two maps analyzed, the Arctic Sea Routes map triumphs in depicting the regional disputes in a simple way, while the Durham Arctic Map is better suited for someone who desires to understand the conflict beyond basics. The Artic Sea Routes map reveals that travelling through the Arctic region for trade greatly reduces transit time. The title map suggests that the map focuses on maritime paths through the Arctic. Centered on Iceland and including parts of Africa on the map, the Sea Routes map, due to a focus on trade and therefore the ability of boats to travel through a region, differentiates between ice and ocean. The Sea Routes map shows the topography of the sea floor of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and includes lines of latitude and longitude,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The title of the Durham Arctic Map, Maritime Jurisdiction and Boundaries in the Arctic Region, emphasizes the maritime boundaries and therefore the claims themselves though its particular diction suggests agreement upon the given territory rather than the actual existence of disputes. In addition to showing few geographical features besides the shape of the landmasses and some internal waterways, the map only names the countries that appear on the map. • 42. Effects Of Sweatshops Terrible Sweatshops: The Examination of the Unethicalness Figure 1 (Lewin) FORCED TO WORK EXHAUSTING HOURS this is the label which a woman who bought a summer dress at Primark found (See figure 1). The message was a cry for help from workers and implies the harsh environment for the people in a sweatshop (Lewin). The word sweatshop was made in the end of 1800s. The definition of the sweatshop is broad but it describes any workplace where people are forced poor conditions and long hours of works with low wages (Annabelle). The US Department of Labor defined a sweatshop as a factory which violates two or more labor laws (DoSomething.org). People in developed countries tend to enjoy buying cheaper products and do not care about the reality of the process they have made. In fact, many women and children are forced to work in sweatshops in developing countries. Some corporations such as NIKE, GAP and Wal Mart have already revealed those facts but the problem has not been solved yet (Bakan). Actually, those are just few of the companies involved in sweatshop labor. By using sweatshops, many corporations reduce their production costs. And millions of people still live with what they get from sweatshops (Solution). Some people say the sweatshop is ethical because it provides better jobs than the average jobs in those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People who believe that sweatshop is ethical argue that it is better to have jobs than to have no jobs at all. They say that if the countries simply ban the low wage labor, the factories would move to other countries which permit lower wages and the situation cannot be changed. And even if people think the conditions of sweatshop labor are unfair and unethical, relative to their other alternatives, sweatshop labor is a very attractive option for workers in the developing world. Some insist that workers would only choose a job in a sweatshop when that job is better for them than any of their other alternatives (Learn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. My Experience In My First Day Of College It was a warm and sunny day, I was able to sleep until eleven o clock in the mooring. I woke up got dressed and attended my first college class. Walking across campus, I saw familiar faces from freshman orientation back in June. I felt comfortable starting my first day of college. I told myself that this was a new chapter in my life, and I wanted to make something special of it. I wanted to make a difference. My number one goal was to get myself known. I made so many friends by just simply making small talk. I know so many faces on campus and I can not wait to see what the future has in store for me. My personal involvement at Adelphi is the reason why I have made so many friends here at Adelphi. Starting back in June at Freshman Orientation, I got involved. I took it upon myself to break the ice within my group. Others were really shy, but I wanted to include everyone and make my three day experience worth it. Coming back in August was exciting, I got to meet even more people. Meeting people from all different parts on New York, America, and the world. I think it is so cool that my neighbors are from Japan. They even gave me some Japanese snacks. The first week at Adelphi was stressful. I really was not used to living away from home and I got home sick. After going home the first weekend, I cam back stronger than ever. My email box was flooding with emails from Adelphi. Emails about getting involved, joining clubs, and events. I attended Caliber which is an awesome club ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Two Kinds of Love in Movie Casablanca Essay Two Kinds of Love in Movie Casablanca In the movie Casablanca, directed by Michael Curtiz, two different kinds of love are exposed. The love relationship between Ilsa Lund and Rick is a more passionate relationship while the one between Ilsa and Victor Laszlo is more intimate. Love is composed of different feelings and because of that it can be expressed, as seen in Casablanca, in different ways. The Intimate Relationship Mind , a text by Garth J. O. Fletcher and Megan Stenswick, helps support that claim providing a scientific background on how love is shaped by those different feelings. It says that love is composed of three distinct and basic components that each represent evolved adaptations; namely, intimacy, commitment, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If two lovers do not share their past with each other it is clear that they are not exactly intimate or committed. Intimacy and commitment would require trust and sharing things besides their own bodies, it seems that was not their case. The Intimate Relationship Mind says that in flings or one night stands, passion can run high, whereas intimacy and commitment are probably low (75). Rick and Ilsa s relationship seemed to work like that. Nevertheless, there was a moment when Rick s feeling started to develop and he started to want more intimacy and commitment. That moment was when the Nazis invaded Paris, and Rick and Ilsa decided to run away. Rick proposed to Ilsa and she didn t really accept. When Ilsa stood Rick up in the train station the intimacy and commitment that he wanted faded away, just like the writing on the letter faded away because of the rain. In his face, however, it could still be seen that the passion remained there. In the end of the movie when Rick says: We ll always have Paris. We didn t have, we d lost it, until you came to Casablanca. We got it back last night. He seems to accept that all he and Ilsa have ever had was a passionate relationship and that it was not supposed to last forever. The other love relationship portrayed in Casablanca is the intimate relationship between Ilsa and Laszlo. As opposed to the relationship between Ilsa and Rick, this one has high levels of ... • 48. Summary Of The Last Of The Mohicans Throughout Cooper s novel the reader and Hawkeye are provided with many oppositions and situations based on Culture, Race, and Geography that creates many tensions throughout the novel. The Last of the Mohicans tends to be centered on the Character Hawkeye, a pathfinder and pioneer that links the wilderness and civilization as mediation. The text itself is driven to be a generic paradox and an encompassing narrative, the history with romance and the disagreement between fact and fiction. Cooper uses a blend of facts and fiction in many scenarios. The third year of the Indian and French War The Last of The Mohicans suppresses the boundaries or outlines that divide literature and history in order to create a narrative of American, within which the real man can be understood. Hawkeye, who is so to say a typical American is between the fiction and fact boundary. He links the people and the actual events of the period of time to fit right in to Coopers genre. The Indian Nations, Fort William Henry massacre, Colonel Munroe, and Marquis de Montcalm are all based on fact but then Cooper intertwines significant romance. Coopers chosen genre, historical romance, is based on the movement between the stages of cultural development or hostile civilizations. It allows cultural self awareness and analysis, which allows the narrative expression. In a traditional narrative love is a quest rather than a cultural analysis. The texts movement tracks the hero as he or she enters the unknown ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. The Attack On Pearl Harbor And 2001 Attacks On The World... The United States (U.S) Intelligence community has come a long way since the revolutionary war. After winning independence from England, the U.S would not invest much into intelligence or foreign policy until the 20th century. Foreign policy was simply not a priority for our young nation, having an ocean on eastern and Western boarders of the country severely limited potential threats. President Franklin D. Roosevelt would be the first president since Washington to understand the importance of intelligence and lay the groundwork for what we now consider national intelligence. Unfortunately, it has taken two catastrophic failures in intelligence for the U.S to realize the need for good intelligence and take steps to improve itself. The... This major intelligence failure was a wakeup call, and the goal of the U.S intelligence community was now to prevent another such attack from happening. Cold WarIntelligence The Cold War with the Soviet Union and its allies started almost immediately after the end of WWII, and would be the next step for the U.S intelligence community. The signing of the National Security Act of 1947 by president Truman drastically restructured the military and intelligence community, creating the Department of Defense (DoD) and Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) while establishing a clear chain of command (CIA, 2008). With the establishment of the CIA and director of central intelligence, The National Security Act of 1947 the U.S had a permanent and legitimized intelligence community, one that could start to develop and refine their own methods of operation and traditions (Lowenthal, 2017). The National Security Act of 1947 would go largely unchanged for 57 years, not being severely altered until 2004. After Pearl Harbor the intelligence communities primary function was to ensure that a catastrophe of that scale would not occur again. During the cold war, the largest threat to the U.S was a nuclear war with the Soviet Union, so an extremely large percentage of intelligence assets were focused on observing the Soviet nuclear program (Bukharin, ... Slavery was no longer a legal business during this time period but freedom was hardly available to millions of newly freed blacks. White men and women dressed in white robes and cone shaped masks and often rallied at night to terrorize black communities. The mindsets of Klan members were centered on black and white no metaphor. In the southern states black people were being murdered and terrorized by the thousands and because the Klan had direct influences with the local police forces, judges, and medical professionals, there was no justice for black victims. HIST 803 Week Three Reading Reflections Two thing stood out to me in this week s readings, although they are closely intertwined: the concepts of Canadian nationalism and Canadian national identity. These concepts changed greatly between the three Canadian Prime Ministers tenures, St. Laurent, Diefenbaker, and Pearson, respectively and how these concepts have continued to change up to the present day. I have noticed that the majority of this week s readings tend to overlook St. Laurent s, and his government s, contributions to these two issues for while the longstanding Liberal government essentially continued MacKenzie King s policies. However they had to do it in a rapidly Canadaand a rapidly changing world. During St. Laurent s time in office the British Commonwealth declined in spectacular fashion while the United Statesrise, as an economic, political, and military superpower was equally spectacular. Canada itself was also changing. • 52. Choosing The Correct Replacement For An Aged Roof Choosing the correct replacement for an aged roof or identifying the best choice for a new building is no easy task. The perfect roofing solution for one building may be the worst option for another just down the street. That s because no two buildings are precisely alike, even if they closely resemble each other. So how do you choose a new roof, given all the choices in the marketplace? You can start by asking a series of questions, before you choose the roof, the roofing contractor or the manufacturer. 1. What is this building s mission statement? Before calls are made to roofing contractors or manufacturers, the first item to address is the company s mission statement as it relates to the building. Whether you are building new facilities or managing existing properties, you want to be confident that the roofing systems you select deliver the performance you expect. More often than not, the building itself dictates the appropriate roofing system specification. You need to know as much about the building and its future as possible. Does the company plan to keep this building as part of its real estate assets for the next 10 to 20 years? Are there any plans to expand it in the near future, or to change its use? What are its current and future occupancy, insulation requirements, aesthetic priorities and even the maintenance schedules for rooftop equipment? These and other mission statement issues will help shape answers to types of roofing to consider and how much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
