1. Safety Rides using Google Maps
The biggest passion for me to use Google maps is to create social awareness
about road safety. Local guides like us should help the general public about
road safety and contribute towards reducing the road accidents around the
globe.

As per the knowledge I gained using Google, I learnt that India ranks 1st
in road deaths in the world.
The Indian government has taken note of the same and promised to reduce the no. of road
accidents and fatalities by 50% by 2020. For that to turn out to reality, it is a responsibility of all of us
that we play our role in the same. We all netizens can make the best use of Google maps in
informing that the general public to reduce the loss of life and property.

2. Focusing on India
• 1214 road crashes occur every day in India
• Two wheelers account for 25% of total road crash deaths
• 20 children under the age of 14 die every day due to road crashes in in the country.
• 377 people die every day, equivalent to a jumbo jet crashing every day
• Two people die every hour in Uttar Pradesh – State with maximum number of road crash
deaths.
• Tamil Nadu is the state with the maximum number of road crash injuries

Follow speed limits..
Avoid using mobile phones while driving
Ignore aggressive drivers.
Don’t drink and drive
Wear Seat belt
Wear helmet
Enhancement of Road safety as a local guides in google maps
• Educate cab drivers to use Audio Instructions
based on their language prefrence.
• Report accidents immediately.

4. Suggestion as a local guide:
1. Google maps can indicate/notify the road signs in the critical accident-prone zones such that
navigators who ride or drive will be aware.
2. During night driving, Google maps should interact if possible with the driver to ensure that
he doesn’t sleep while on the steering.
