Here are the key points regarding criminal justice policy making:
- Criminal justice policy is influenced by public perceptions of conviction rates and arrests. However, relying solely on these perceptions raises doubts about the appropriateness of punishment severity.
- Research shows perceived probability of arrest is related to subsequent criminal behavior. Those with lower perceived chances of arrest are more likely to commit crimes in the future.
- Effective policy making requires considering empirical evidence on what influences criminal behavior rather than just public perceptions, to help reduce crime in a sensible way. Relying on perceptions alone could result in policies that are either too lenient or overly harsh.

George F. Will argues that affirmative action policies in college admissions should be ended. He believes these policies discriminate against Asian-American students and undermine the merit-based system. While supporters argue that affirmative action promotes diversity, Will asserts that it often results in admitting less qualified students and hurts the academic standards of elite institutions. Overall, he makes the case that race-neutral admissions would be fairer and benefit Asian-American and other high-achieving students.

2. Racial Profiling Theory
Racial profiling is an ever growing issue in the world. Not growing in that it is becoming more of an
issue, but growing in that citizens who are not victims are finally seeing and understanding racial
profiling and its role in the criminal justice system, and also victims themselves are becoming more
outspoken and encouraged to fight back about the injustices they are facing. The two go hand in hand,
as there are more people willing to listen, there are more people willing to speak out. The first and
second section of this paper will dedicate itself to understanding and considering the social factors and
the legal factors that enable racial profiling to exist in Canada. The third section of this paper will

Is is enabled not only by the government, government officials, police, lawyers and anyone else who
falls into a similar style of categorization, but it is also perpetuated by citizens themselves, through
their own racist ideologies or through their disinterest and lack of initiative to change the way society
and the legal system view minorities. There is also the factor of it being a very difficult task to address
the problem of racial profiling in the criminal justice system because small scale legal reforms do not
seem to be making an impact, and large scale legal reforms are very difficult to foster. These factors
are extremely essential to consider as the only way to determine the best course of action to avoid a
system such as racial profiling, is by acknowledging and deconstructing the very structures that keep
the practice in place in the first place. It is especially important to consider legal and social factors as
these factors would be so ingrained into our society and the comfort of our everyday lives that many
would not bother to give a second thought on the discussion. The only way to grow and evolve as a
society (with the inclusion of a growing and evolving legal system) is to continue to question what we
believe we know and to challenge the structures prevailing in our society that in any way seem unfair
or unjust. For this reason,

3. Stopping By The Woods Essay
Composers utilise their respective works to convey various aspects of revelation. Exploration of self
and the wider world is a multifaceted component, manipulated to be found in all aspects of life.
Composers such as Robert Frost and David Wilkie incorporate these notions into their literary works.
Robert Frost dexterously composed the poems Stopping by the woods on a snowy evening and
Mending Wall to reflect the ambiguous nature of man s interpretive expeditions. Similarly, David
Wilkie adapts Titan s 16th century Supper at Emmaus to his 19th Century painting Christopher
Columbus at the convent of la Rabida to portray the ever relevant nature of expedition into the
unknown. Frost analyses metaphysical exploration as a supporting factor ... Show more content on

However, the lines retain a sense of echolalia, illustrating that the speaker s mind is transfixed in
metaphysical contemplation. Frost consequently draws connotations to humanity s constant battle
between lust for, and fear of, the unknown. Therefore, exploration into one s cognitive realm is
denoted as tempting but potentially dangerous. However, Frost portrays this experience with positive
overtones, describing the encounter as necessary. Frost inadvertently shows that through self
exploration, an individual can understand their worth. Therefore, self analysis generates a shaped
perception of an individual s civil necessity.
Individual citizenship expedites a greater comprehension of social mechanics. Civil machinations are
duly exposed when examined from multiple perspectives beginning with the individual. Frost alludes
to this notion in Mending wall by highlighting the varying opinions of man. The colloquial and and

the allegorical walk the line that draws adverse connotations to society s influence on private thought.
Frost furthers this notion through the deplorative tonality when mentioning the motif of the wall .
Additionally, the archaic imagery of he moves in darkness continues the impression of a growing
antipathy. Frost employs these to showcase the disparity between the speaker s distaste for boundaries

Can information systems provide businesses with a competitive edge? Are such IT related competitive
advantages sustainable in the long run? Why or why not?
In recent years, many businesses have faced an increasingly uncertain future. As a result, there is an
economic imperative to gain advantage over their competitors (Bakos Treacy, 1986). A competitive
advantage is attained when a firm reaches its comparative efficiency or bargaining power (Bakos and
Treacy, 1986). There has been a need for the introduction of information systems into many businesses
due to human limitations, with bounded rationality concerning the memory, computation and

Here, they suggest core competence being a bundle of skills and technologies that enables a company
to provide a particular benefit to customers . This is the main reason for improving information
systems, as they optimally position a company within an existing market and develops foresight into
the whereabouts of tomorrow s market . Information systems should help the business to produce at a
lower cost level. This will enable it to differentiate from its competitors and to analyse other markets
and market sectors it may wish to enter into (Porter, 1980; Porter and Millar, 1985). Using information
systems can potentially raise barriers to entry for new firms who will not have the technology that an
established firm will or, or not have the capital to fund such a system. It can also create ways in which
clients will depend on your business, be able to offer new and idiosyncratic goods and services and
creating business opportunities (Bott et al., 1986, Porter and Millar, 1979).
Information systems providing competitive advantage can be displayed in the retail business. With
high street businesses, rent and wages must be paid. These companies will also have distribution

5. Winston Churchill Ethical Or Ethical
Great men are never good men. To be great is to be considerably above average in terms of ability,
quality or eminence. To the British, Sir Winston Churchill was indeed a great leader, and he is most
well known for rallying and leading the British during the Second World during his term as Prime
Minister of the United Kingdom, inspiring them with a belief in their victory and justice of their cause.
However, not all of his actions were ethically sound , or morally good or correct, possessing and
displaying moral virtue, as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary. Even though his intentions were
for the good of his people and country, the actions that Churchill took in trying to reach his final goal
were not always ethically sound. Therefore, I agree with the quote and in this essay I will be
evaluating the extent to which some of his decisions and actions were ethical or not.
One of the most controversial actions taken by Winston Churchill was the decision to bomb Berlin in
1940. When the German air force bombers attacked London against Hitler s orders, Churchill refused
to listen to Hitler s explanation and instead ordered a retaliatory attack on Berlin. He specifically
commanded the Royal Air Force (RAF) to focus their attacks on the civilian population and industrial

Abstract: The bromination of the alkane was calculated and the overall percent yield was 96.35% with
the percent yield with the calculated theoretical yield was 79.85%. The addition reaction was
synthesized with a mechanism using 3 steps. The E Stilbene reacted with pyridinium hydromide

other would be dl(1R,2R + 1S,2S) stilbene dibromide. Introduction: Halogenation is when one or

mL of acetic acid was dissolved. A hot water bath was prepared and the mixture was warmed until the
solid is completely dissolved. After the solution was dissolved, 1.02 gram of pyridinium hydromide
perbromide was added. The crystals around the flask were rinsed with a small amount of acetic acid
and the solution was continued in the hot water bath for one to two minutes. The stilbene dibromide
precipitated immediately as small plates. The mixture was cooled under tap water helping crystals
form. The mixture was cooled before collecting the product by a vacuum filtration. For the crystals not
to stick in the flask, the solution was washed with small amounts of ice cold methanol. When done
pouring, the isolated solid dried for a few minutes in the filtration. To increase drying time, the
crystals were pressed down. When the solid was collected, data such as melting point, percent yield
and infrared spectroscopy spectrum values were collected. Results and Discussion: When all the data
was collected, the solid was weighed and in total the watch glass with the solid weighed 16.52 grams.
When the weight of the watch glass was subtracted, 0.77g of the solid stilbene bromide is left. In order
to calculate the percent yield, the theoretical yield is taken.

The Steam Engine and the Maxim are both forms of technology which were man made that impacted
the world. The steam engine was used to make transportation easier and more convenient for people.
The Maxim gun on the other hand was used to conquer parts of the world and show superiority over
over other groups of people. While both inventions helped groups of people get what they wanted to
survive and thrive for many years, the Steam Engine is more superior compared to the Maxim. The
idea of the Steam Engine originated from a man named Thomas Savery, an English inventor and

When it came to weaponry Great Britain was always ahead of the game. Always trading old weapons
while having new weapons with them at all times. The most powerful weapon at that time was the
Maxim gun. The Maxim was invented by Hiram Maxim in 1883. Great Britain was one of the most
dominant countries who wanted Afric. Technology was what could explain their dominance. When
they took parts of Africa the Africans were unable to fight against them. That was because they could
not fight with arrows and a shotgun, while their opponents had a machine gun waiting for them. Great
Britain always had the best weapons. The Maxim was the ultimate weapon. It was a machine gun that
no one could stop.
Though the Maxim did what it was made to do, which was showing dominance and getting territory, it
only helped a specific group of people. Since it was a gun it was obviously used to kill people. The
only people in Africa at the time were Africans. The Maxim was only used for dominance and
claiming territory, because it looked like no other gun at that time. Not really used to help the
continent let alone help the world.
While both inventions helped people achieve their goals one helped more people than the other. The
Steam Engine as stated before helped many miners do their job and get a paycheck. It is also more
significant because it became another idea, and sparked new inventions. Those ideas being the
inventions of cars, trains, and planes. While the Maxim was able to accomplish

9. Cult Classic Essay
What makes a film a cult classic? What makes a bunch of films belong to the same cult classic? I
found myself asking the same question a couple of days ago, only to to get bombarded by my own
memory of three distinct movies, which just happened to have the same composer: Requiem For A
Dream, Moon and The Fountain. Coincidence? I think not.
These three films are as psychologically triggering as they re visually stunning. But the most
important aspect here is the accompanied music. The three main scores which were written by the
same person for three different movies that just happen to end up being huge cult classics.
First, let s talk about Requiem For a Dream: The whole story is about how addiction is more than just
self medicating. Addiction, as a concept in the movie (and in reality) can be linked to virtually any
substance or activity human beings consume, the movie shows that in the most beautifully ... Show

As a movie, it is really hard to come to good terms with it, as one critic said Its supporters admire the

Whatever one might think about it, the score itself is Clint Mansell s best work, it moves right along
the film across time and space to be a multi layered piece of astonishing creativity. The Last Man is
the main score, with its string exclusive passive theme, the piece ascends us as the main character
ascends through the fabric of reality. Death is The Road to Awe, on the other hand, is not as gloomy as
one might guess from its title. It s been used in the crucial moment of when the character discoverers
his inability to do anything about...well, anything! Somehow, the piece makes that scene a bit more
emotionally tolerable as it gives it the integrity of being not sad, but sadly

During the 1960 s a woman s role in society was greatly changed through both social and legal means.
Women s rights movements in the United States date back to 1848 at the Seneca Falls Convention, but
were greatly ignored after women were granted the right to vote in 1920 by the nineteenth
amendment. Many reasons contributed to the reemergence of women s movements but the most
prevalent is the end of World War II in 1945. During World War II, more than three million women of
all classes of society voluntarily exchanged their aprons and jobs as a house wives and took up real
tools in factories. Women working in industrial jobs during World War II affected the mind set of both

file suit against discriminatory organizations. By the end of the 1960 s women significantly changed
their position in society and law and overcame sexism in several ways including breaking into male
dominated fields, moderate and radical thinking, breaking down male power structures and through
cultural expressions. Although women experienced profound cultural change during the 1960 s many
things including a male dominated society, the classic perception of women and opposition to equal

every part of society. This did not change much during the 1960 s. Other movements, including the

11. Analysis Of Orson Welles And Herman Mankiewicz
Citizen Kane figures in one of the most influential, and greatest filmography works of all time.
However, the making of its fame was rather rough. Orson Welles and Herman Mankiewicz were the
screenwriters for this movie, Welles was the leading director; therefore, he had the final saying in the
contributions to the movie. Both writers worked separately when developing the story, only having the
main character defined: Charles Foster Kane it is pertinent to say that I think Foster is supposed to be
ironic considering his morose childhood . Welles had a rough childhood, which is portrayed in the
film, since he came from a broken home and lost his hardworking mother when he was nine. The
origins of Kane s personality is sort of like a mixture between allusions to Welles miserable childhood

12. Sebastian Bach Inspiration
Johann Sebastian Bach was an inspiration and influence to those of his time and those today. He was a
German composer who played the violin, organ, harpsichord, and sang. He was, arguably, one of the
greatest composers in western musical history. Bach went through many obstacles in his life to
become successful, and that is why he is such an inspiration to me. Bach was born on March 31, 1865
in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany into a family of eight children. Only five of the eight survived;
therefore, Bach had three brothers and a sister. He grew up into a very religious and musically inclined
family. Johann Amrosius Bach, who was Johann Sebastian Bach s father, was the director of the town

One of the greatest composers to ever live was Ludwig Van Beethoven. He contributed so much to the
art of music and has composed many excellent works that are still played today. There are many
different pieces to choose when it comes to Beethoven s collection. One of the most well known
pieces by Beethoven is his Fifth Symphony in C minor. This piece contains four movements, but I
decided to focus on the first movement which is in Sonata form. The first movement includes the
beginning of the piece. Some also refer to this beginning as allegro con brio, which means fast with
spirit. This absolute music piece contains a four note motive that is rhythmic, forceful, and tension

14. Biography Of Photographer Art Rogers
In 1980, photographer Art Rogers was commissioned to picture Jim Scanlon s eight new German
Shepherds. Through creative thought and technical works, he photographed Scanlon, his wife, and
their dogs into the photograph Puppies. He soon licensed the image and sold it to be available as prints
and notecards. During Jeff Koons visit in Europe, he bought a Puppies notecard and gave it to Italian
artisans in the Demetz Studio to produce four copies of it as sculptures called String of Puppies. The
sculptures were placed in the 1988 Banality Show exhibition at the Sonnabend Gallery. Plaintiff
photographer Art Rogers claimed that defendant Jeff Koons copyrighted his photograph Puppies into
the sculpture String of Puppies. Koons argued his borrowing of Puppies was permissible under the fair
use doctrine and for parody. Rogers filed an action on October 11, 1989, seeking summary judgement
and permanent injunction for plagiarism and unfair competition under state laws.
Issue
Was defendant Koons String of Puppies borrowing of Roger s Puppies permissible under the fair use
doctrine and parody or was this a work of unauthorized copyright infringement?
Decision
The Court of Appeals ruled Koon s String of Puppies is copyright infringement and does not meet the
fair use doctrine and for parody use since Koon failed to satisfy the ordinary observer test and Section

15. The God, Son, And Holy Spirit, By Dr. Bruce Ware
Would God have chosen to reveal himself to us as the one God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
unless he knew that this would be important to our understanding of him and of our faith? Must it not
be the case that God cares greatly that we get it, that we see him for who he is? And must it not matter
to our own lives, whether or not we understand him as the triune God that he is? (13) This is the very
heart of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit: Relationships, Roles, and Relevance, by Dr. Bruce Ware,
Senior Associate Dean and Professor of Christian Theology, at the Southern Baptist Theological
Seminary in Louisville, KY. The book was initially written for the purpose of teaching at a pastor s
conference, but with the help of his diligent secretary was composed into a book. Through the
perseverance of his secretary and Dr. Ware s gifted theological teaching, we now have what one critic
considers a thorough theological treatise that any biblically literate layman can understand. (Paige
Patterson) This theological treatise is divided into six main chapters, that each focus on the Trinitarian
doctrine. Understanding the doctrine of the Trinity is essential to the Christian faith, which is the
central goal of this book. The main focus of this study is to examine the ways in which the three
Persons of the Trinity relate to one another, how they relate to us, and what difference this makes to
our lives. Dr. Ware accomplishes this through discussing the wonder of each

17. The Reid Technique For Interrogation
The Reid technique
One of the most famous technique for interrogation is the Reid technique. According to the company
website, over 500,000 law enforcement and security professionals have attended the company s
interview and interrogation training programs since they were first offered in 1974. This technique is
based of nine steps:
The first step is the positive confrontation; the officer will present the fact from the case to the person
being interrogated. The officer will say that the person might be considered as a suspect because there
are proofs than connect him to the ongoing investigation.
The second step is the development of the theme, during the interrogation the interrogator will ask
why the suspect has committed the crime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point the suspect should be on the breach of being defeated in his lies. This can be seen by
nonverbal behaviors such as long silent moments or putting elbow on the knees and posing his head
on his hands. This is the point in the interrogation when the suspect begins to confess and thus the
police officer has to keep a good contact with him.
The seventh step is about presenting an alternative, which means that the interrogator will present
another reason for why the suspect committed the crime.
The eighth step is called having the suspect orally relate various details of the offense , which means
that after the suspect accepted the fact that he is guilty, the officer should try to know more about the
crime and ask for details.
The ninth step is Converting an oral confession to a written confession. This is the final step where the
suspect will write his guilt.
The Reid technics is good when people are the real suspect and interrogator just need to have the oral
and the written consent of the crime. However, this technic can be very aggressive and misleading
when the person interrogated is just a witness. In fact, Gregg McCrary, a retired F.B.I. agent, said that
Reid technique has a tendency to see lies where they sometimes may not exist. They just assume they
re interviewing the guilty guy.

20. The Causes Of Wealth Inequality In America
Grace Ogunkunle
Prof. D. Fozouni
English 102 (SBVC)
Research Paper
Dec 8, 2017.
Wealth Gap In America
Americans today live in a distinctly unequal society. Inequality is now wider than it used to be in the
last century, and the division in income, wages, and wealth are broader than they are in other
developed economies of the world. Wealth inequality is the imbalance of wealth or income within a
society, and it is one of the most vital economic challenge the US is facing today because the
distribution of wealth is more dispersed, making the inequality in wealth distribution at its highest.
While the matter has been discussed for many years, the actual income disparity in the U.S. has
heightened and is now verging on an extreme gap that portends to impede long term economic growth.
The huge gap between the wealthy and poor is squeezing the U.S. economy, the wealth gap threatens
economic growth by diminishing social mobility and producing a less educated workforce who are not
able to compete in the global economy. unrestrained level of income inequality causes political
pressures, it discourages trade, investment, and hiring. The present level of income inequality in the
U.S. is shrinking GDP growth, and the world s largest economy is struggling to recover from the Great
Recession. Wealth inequality has become a hot topic in recent years, this is because the return rate on
capital, such as stocks or real estate, outruns that of economic growth which resulted in the wealthiest
grasping a growing share of wealth, leading to increasing inequality. The unequal distribution of
wealth has been a major hallmark of the U.S economy, and among its most notable and lasting results,
but until it was brought to the awareness of the public by the Occupy movement s catch phrase
referring to the 1% of the populace who control half of the nation s wealth, this issue had not been
brought to the limelight of public economic and political discourse since the Great Depression of the
1930s, and almost every American is basically unaware of the true magnitude and character of the
unequal distribution of wealth in our country. Inequality in wealth i.e. the sum of household savings,
home equity, investments, and debts is

In this occupation certain persons employ themselves regularly and inherit this as a craft. (Herodotus)
Just as Herodotus recorded, mummification dates back to early 3rd millennium B.C. It may date back
many years, but was not perfected till many years later to what we officially call mummification.
(Dunand 27) We call it mummification and the bodies mummies because of the Persian word for
bitumen, which is mummia . The reason for this name is because of the dark skin of mummies, which
people mistook for bitumen. Bitumen is a mineral formed for a tar like substance. (Becket 31) One of
the main reasons to prepare the body, making it look like bitumen, was for the afterlife. After being

The most important people in the mummification process were the controller of mysteries, Lector

38) Many different things were mummified to be put into the elaborate tombs. Soon the process of
being mummified became well known to the royals. The royals, when they were buried, had
themselves put into elaborate tombs. (David 60) The royals thought that this idea would prevent grave
robbers from disturbing their body. Not only were the royals buried in elaborate tombs, but at times
members of nobility and officials had elaborate tombs. Common people could have elaborate tombs,
but it depended on how much money they had to spend. Along with being buried in elaborate tombs to
ward off grave robbers, they would be buried with animals to ward off spirits. The cultures of many
people believed that the bull, baboon, cat, bird, and crocodiles were sacred. ( Encyclopedia 2) They
would specially have the animals mummified to resemble the gods in their religion. (Grace 24) Many
cultures mummified there dead, but Egyptian s were the most popular. Egyptians dates back all the
way to six thousand years ago. They believed that death was the doorway to the next life and that the
body needed to be intact to be accepted into the next life. (Becket 30) At first the Egyptians did not

22. Analysis Of Magnificent Seven
For the Final Project this project will be focus on the movie The Magnificent Seven. This movie is a
compelling movie that show a group of bound hunters caring more about the job more than the money.
Some of the characters in the movie went through internet conflict that led them to change throughout
the movie. In Magnificent Seven we can see many example of binary opposition and position
throughout the plot of the movie. The villain Bogue want to seize control of the town of Rose Creek to
dig for gold in the mines. Emma Cullen and some of the townsfolks turn to bound hunters to protect
them from the tyranny of Bugue and his gang. The movie director of Magnificent Seven use political
agendas in the plot and through the characters because he wants to reveal how the indulgence of
money can cause people to be corrupt and to others people money can be less important than life. By
trying to reveal this truth the director used the Marxist Literary Theory and the Postcolonial Theory to
hope change society outlook on money. In Magnificent Seven some of the character is empowered and
disempowered to the plot social orders. The bound hunter s political orders made them empowered
because protecting the people of Rose Creek was more important to them at the end. The job became
more valuable than the money. Some of the bound hunter s risk and sacrifice their life s to protect the
people of Rose Creek town from the epic battle at the end. The main bound hunter Sam Chisolm can
be describe as a round and dynamic character. When Sam Chisolm recruit the gang of bound hunters
they were about the reward money for protecting the townsfolks. At the end of the movie their point of
view changes a lot. Bogus can be describe as a static and flat character. Bogue is the main protagonist
in the movie. Bogue doesn t change in the movie because his main intention is to take control over the
town, so he can get richer. These character trails for Bogue disempowered him in the movie plot.
When Bogue was killed in the church the toward the end is symbol, which mean House of Judgement
for all his sins. Bogue burn down the church to lower the townsfolk morally in the beginning of the
movie.

24. Summary Of Patterns By Amy Lowell Patterns
Amy Lowell was a leader of the Imagists movement. She was influenced by John Keats and gathered
a selection of his works. Lowell began to write after her brothers published books of their own, but
she focused on poetry. The detail in Lowell s poetry related to describing and environment or a person
could help the reader better understand what is happening in the poem and include the reader as if they
were actually there experiencing what the narrator or speaker is experiencing. Her choices develop a
bigger picture than what the poem is actually saying. Amy Lowell helped to change the thought
process when reading poetry. Amy Lowell s Patterns is a very good example of imagery being used to
draw the reader s attention. This poem is filled with so many bright and vivid colors and different
moods that it attracts the reader. Each stanza shows a different scene or a different moment in the
same area and exuding different emotions to share that moment and feeling. The first two stanzas and
the last three stanzas are in the present, while the third and fourth stanzas are flashbacks or memories
she is having as she remembers her lost lover. The title Patterns refers to the gown that the speaker is
wearing, the different flowers in the garden, the paths that are in the garden, and the war that the
speaker mentions towards the end of the poem. In the first stanza, the speaker is walking through the
garden and she notices the wind blowing on the flowers causing them to move or sway. She continues
walking through the garden in her stiff but beautifully embroidered gown. She has white hair and a fan
embellished with jewels. She states that she has a unique design. The mood in this stanza seems calm
or content but a little uncomfortable. The second stanza she is still walking along the path in the
garden and her train is dragging on the ground behind her covering the path and the plants along the
sides. Her ensemble is currently in style and so are her shoes. She only shows confidence while
wearing her corset and gown. She slowly takes a seat under the lime tree, although the corset makes it
difficult and uncomfortable to sit, she sits anyway. She watches the flowers swing in the breeze

There are several legislation that relate with obtaining teacher credentials. According to AB 1282,
students enrolled in grades K 12 depend highly on the competency of their teachers. Assembly
Member Jackson required an increase in the amount of test taking sites and times for teachers to take
their basic skills test, which evaluates their abilities. On October 6, 1999, Governor Grey Davis
approved this bill and now enforces the requirements for mandatory teacher testing. This law also
requires that teacher applicants be enrolled in an approved credential program before receiving their

27. Factors Affecting People s Health And Health Experiences...
Place is an important factor in determining people s health and health experiences (Karunanayake et
al., 2015) and the neighborhood is vital because it directly impacts the lives of people living there.
Saskatoon low income neighborhoods are significantly different in income status, education,
employment status, and poverty in comparison to affluent neighborhoods as well as the rest of
Saskatoon. The low income neighborhoods in Saskatoon have a high population of residents with an
average household income of approximately $40,000 compared to about $84,000 for the entire city
(Fuller, Engler Stringer, Muhajarine, 2015) (Cooper, 2014) and these neighborhoods are also referred
to as the core neighborhoods .
Saskatoon s core neighborhoods including communities of King George, Meadow Green, Pleasant
Hill, Riversdale and Westmount (National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health, 2015)
consist of a disproportionate proportion of the most vulnerable populations to poverty. Hence,
Saskatoon Health Region (SHR) defines its population by using a measure of neighborhood residence
and includes Aboriginal status in its analyses (Morrison, 2011) because, First Nations, Métis, and
ethnic minorities majorly occupy the low income neighborhoods (Cessna, 2014). Although Saskatoon
s Aboriginal population are becoming more disperse in their place of residence, a significant number
of Aboriginal people reside in the core neighborhoods (Lotoski, Engler Stringer, Muhajarine, 2015).

Ovid s Devaluation of Sympathy in Metamorphoses
Ovid reveals two similar tales of incest in the Metamorphoses. First, he describes the non sisterly love
Byblis acquires for her twin brother Caunus. Later, he revisits the incestuous love theme with the story
of Myrrha who develops a non filial love for her father, Cinyras. The two accounts hold many
similarities and elicit varying reactions. Ovid constantly tugs at our emotions and draws forth
alternating feelings of pity and disgust for the matters at hand. Repetition with a difference in these
two narratives shows how fickle we can be in allotting and denying sympathy, making it seem less

Some of the biggest challenges in relationships are rooted between the push and pull of give and take.
People tend to enter into relationships to gain something: they re trying to find someone who s going

of giving.
For some love is primarily taking, for some love is primarily giving and for some it is more evenly a

31. The Major Roles Of A Primary Teacher
What are the major roles of a Primary Teacher?
Defining the roles and duties of a Primary Teacher can be quite difficult. Gipps et al. (2000) define
teaching as: a diverse, complex activity with no clear rules except that the teacher should teach and the
children should learn. (Gipps et al. 2000 p.4).
The roles of a primary teacher may be decided by what we believe is effective teaching. The idea of
how children should be taught and how children learn has changed over time. Gipps (1992) examines
how contributions from theorists change the way we look at children s development and learning. She
proposes that there are two main types of models of learning, constructivist and transmission and goes
on to suggest that the roles a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this perspective, Carroll suggests the role of the teacher is not to hand down information but to
support children s learning and help them reach higher attainment levels than they would if they were
working alone. Teachers must facilitate discussions to allow pupils to share and co construct meanings
as well as organise problem solving activities. Carroll s writing further cements the point earlier
mention by Gipps (1992), suggesting the roles a teacher takes in the classroom depends on the theory
they follow. This can be seen as the roles a teacher performs when following either perspective are
very different.
Having good and substantial knowledge of relevant subjects is often stated in current literature and
documentation as a necessary factor for good and effective primary teaching. It is included in the
Department of Education (2011 p.11) Teachers Standards, where it is stated that teachers should have
secure subject and curriculum knowledge, and be able to inspire pupils into developing their own
learning and knowledge. A report from Ofsted (2009) looking into the connection between high
quality teaching and subject knowledge in primary education, showed that where lessons were deemed
satisfactory, the teachers weakness in their subject knowledge had negative effects on their pupils
achievement. Writing for the Times Educational Supplement, Morrison (2014) suggests that subject
knowledge is the most important factor for successful teaching in

Winston Churchill spent most of his childhood in Dublin, Ireland, raised primarily by his nanny (a
custom of the times) Ms. Elizabeth Ann Everest. Elizabeth was a great role model and mother figure
in Winston s childhood and later he showed his immense love for her in his book My Early Years
(1930) stating She had lived such an innocent and loving life of service to others and held such a
simple faith, that she had no fears at all, and did not seem to mind very much. She had been my
dearest and most intimate friend during the whole of the twenty years I had lived. Elizabeth s great
influences on him did not carry into his school life though and Winston proved to be a very rebellious
but clearly clever student, and in 1888 his family decided (after his lack of accomplishments in his
first two schools) that he must attend Harrow a private boarding school near London. When he first
entered the school with very low exam scores,it effectively placed him at the bottom of his class, a low

All through America s history it always had a presidential election every four years, and last years
presidential election campaign there were two leading candidates, so to ensure their victory, they both
made promises significant changes, creation. All through last year s campaign, a candidate named
Donald J. Trump made several promises, and one of his promises could change the way of life in
American. Mr.Trump won last years presidential election, and all eyes were on him to the promise
vowed to do if and when he is president. That one promise which is opposed by six in ten Americans
is that President Trump promised a big, beautiful wall that would be placed on the Mexican and
American border. President Trump Proposed that he could construct the wall for 8 billion, but now it is
known that wall will cost about $21.6 billion for the wall and that the $21.6 plan doesn t include the
$150 million a year to maintain. America shouldn t Build a Wall along the US/Mexico Border because
of the high cost and how it will affect America s economy, also thought the wall would keep out
undocumented immigrant from crossing the US border but it is shown that undocumented immigrants
contribute over $11 billion to the US economy each year, and lastly the environment that is near the
border, and how it will be affected and disturbed due to the construction the border wall. President

34. Reflection Of The Imagined Community
This paper is a book report of Benedict Anderson s famous book Imagined community: Reflection on
the Origin and spread of Nationalism. It was published by Verso in 1983 and had revisions in 1991
and 2006 with some additional chapters and it became one of the most read books on nationalism.
Anderson explains that the concept of nationalism is a very new but a powerful concept, which has
been neglected by many important thinkers. Nationalism according to him is connecting bound among
the people of a nation, which creates an imagined community. People do not know each other
personally but they share a nation, which makes them tied to each other. When it comes to the reason
of why it is emerging in the modern times, he explains that the main underlying reason behind the
growth of the imagined communities is the rise of the movements against the monarchs and the
development of the capitalism, which mainly started in Europe with the industrial revolution. I will

the idea that the concept of race that people started to understand and visualize in their mind is not the
racism as a discrimination concept but as more being bound to one s own race, what Anderson calls it

36. The Disasters The Days Of Grace Analysis
In this passage, the author encourages writers to use memories from their childhoods, specifically
from holidays, as material for their writing. Holidays are a good place to start when remembering your
childhood. They are often memorable. People often take pictures, which can also trigger memories.
Remembering a detail about someone or seeing a picture of them can lead to even more memories.
This can help the writer recall another event that is harder to remember, but had a greater impact on
them.
Holidays are often joyful, but can sometimes lead to anger or embarrassment. This is shown by the
quote the disasters, the days of grace . The bittersweetness of the holidays makes good material for
writing. The author mentions those terrible petaled swim caps, the men s awful trunks . This shows
disappointment in her own family. She believes that her family members are clueless and is
embarrassed by them. Additionally, she draws a contrast between her cousins Brownie uniforms and
her own. This exemplifies her belief that people are constantly judging her. Something as minor as an
untidy uniform can set off her low self esteem.

The Grand Canyon tops many travelers ultimate bucket list. In a country with countless scenic views,
there s no shortage of the breathtaking sights. While it may be a small fraction of that other canyon in
Arizona, there s a Little Grand Canyon right in the heart of south Georgia. Georgia s Providence

38. Outline And Evaluate The Memory Process
Memory is the term given to the structures and processes involved in the storage and subsequent
retrieval of information. Memory is essential to all our lives. Without a memory of the past we cannot
operate in the present or think about the future. Memory is involved in processing vast amounts of
information. This information takes many different forms, e.g. images, sounds or meaning.
The multi store model (Atkinson, Shiffrin 1968) describes memory in terms of information flowing
through a system. Accordingly, it can be described as an information processing model with an input,
process and output. Information is detected by the sense organs and enters the sensory memory. If
attended to this information enters the short term memory. Information from the STM is then
transferred to the long term memory by rehearsal.
Miller s (1956) Magic number 7 (plus or minus two) provides evidence for the capacity of short term
memory. Most adults can store between 5 and 9 items in their short term memory. This idea was put
forward by Miller and he called it the magic number 7. He though that short term memory could hold

He used memory span to measure how much can be stored in short term memory at any time. Jacobs
presented his participants with random sequence of digits or letters and they were asked to repeat them
back in the same order. They are first given 1 digit to repeat and the digit increases by one at a time to
the sequence until the participant can no longer recall the given digits in order. Capacity refers to the
amount of information that can be held at any one time in memory. Jacobs found that the average span
for digits was 9.3 numbers and 7.3 for letters. The span increases with age because people learn how
to chunk the information given. This findings suggested that STM has a limited storage capacity of
between about 5 to 9

was the aroma of wild strawberries my favorite aroma from my childhood. When I was a kid in
Bulgaria, my parents and I used to go in the woods and pick wild strawberries every summer. Since
then, this aroma is my favorite fruit aroma. I can recognize it everywhere in the world. This was one
of my first connections with the nature.
I looked around weeds everywhere. I knew that wild strawberries would be here. I bent over and
started to search for them. They were everywhere between the weeds. Wild strawberries are red, and
as small as a human nail. They are so small and so delicious. I usually like to wash my fruits very
well, but not these ones. I started to eat them right away. The wild strawberries are sweet creation of
nature. It had been more than 10 years since I ate wild strawberries. I heard a noise. People were
coming. I sat on the ground and waited for them to pass us. They didn t even notice the aroma of wild
strawberries. They were too busy. I only greeted them, I didn t want to share my gold with the busy

3.8) Scheduler: Scheduler in an operating system selects the next process to be admitted into the

Long Term Scheduler: Long term scheduler also known as job scheduler, selects the process or jobs
which are to be allowed to the ready queue in the main memory for execution. It decides what
processes are to be run on the system. Long term scheduling has much less frequency of execution.
The long term scheduler is responsible for controlling the degree of multiprogramming. Because of
longer periods between the executions, long term scheduler has an ability to take time in selecting the
process for execution. It is important to select an appropriate process. Generally processes can be
described as I/O bound or CPU bound. I/O bound spends more time in doing I/O operations rather
than other computations. CPU bound is contrast to I/O bound, which spends time doing all other ...

42. Once More Of The Lake
Once More to the Lake is a short essay written by E.B. White for his column in the New Yorker, One
Man s Meat. Once More to the Lake is a story about a father who is taking his son to his childhood
vacation spot. On the trip, the father finds himself inside the memories of his past. Throughout the
trip, the father finds differences in the lake from when he was a child. While much of E.B. White s
essay is set in the present, the author explores his own mortality as he looks both to the past and to the
future. Elwyn Brooks White was born on July 11, 1899, in Mount Vernon, New York, and died in
1985. Throughout his lifetime, White had traveled to many places and held several jobs ranging from
reporter to army private. He became a multifaceted writer but primarily wrote style manual, fiction,
poetry, and children s literature. Throughout his life, White was surrounded by many other talented
writers including Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley, and Stephen Leacock. White wrote the well
known children s stories Stuart Little and Charlotte s Web. Many of White s works were accomplished
with the help of his wife, former editor, Katharine Angell. Once More to the Lake was published in
1941 along with many other works on which he and Katharine had collaborated. The year 1941 was
the onset of World War II in America. Other countries had been at war for some time. In 1941,
however, the war became increasingly eminent for Americans. E.B. White did not slow down his

classical concert, curated by Michael Haas, the cellist, was entitled A Room with a View and explored
Italy through the eyes of foreign composers. The program featured Benjamin Britten s String Quartet
No. 3 in G Major, Op. 94 (1975), Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky s Souvenir de Florence Op. 70 for string
sextet (1890), and the world premiere of Claude Baker s Années de pélerinage: Italie (2016 2017). In
this essay, I will be focusing on the performance of Britten s piece, String Quartet No. 3 in G Major.
The work has five movements structured in a pattern of slow fast slow fast slow all of which are
characterized by unique forms of dissonance.
Overall, the concert was very enjoyable. The stunning Teatro had large windows and great acoustics
because of its high ceilings. The proscenium stage framed the musicians semi circle well. I originally
approached this concert feeling disappointed that I would not get to experience a full orchestra;
however, the intimacy of the setting made it so I could really see what was going on and appreciate
each musician and their respective instrument. I love that the curator chose works produced by
composers from different countries and time periods who were all inspired by the same beautiful
country that is Italy; in doing so, he gave the audience

Challenges for Accounting and Finance Professionals
Case Questions Olympus
1. Why is the Olympus case considered to be as much about corporate governance as it is about
accounting fraud?
This particular case is considered to be as much about corporate governance as it is about accounting
fraud because it comprised a corrupt system that existed in the company and involved senior
management (including the board of directors) for many years. The company s board of directors
prioritized its own interests over those of other stakeholder groups, including Olympus own
stockholders, thus evidencing a problem of unethical behavior and a fundamental lack of good
corporate governance.
2. What role did the media play in the uncovering of this fraud?
The media had an important role in uncovering the fraud because it was the media that put pressure on
Olympus to acknowledge there was a problem and take action to resolve it. Among other things, the
media pressured the head of the board of directors to resign his position. The media also pressured the
authorities, e.g. the FBI, to become involved and investigate the case, ultimately making it possible for
Michael Woodford to demonstrate that he was right to suspect that something wrong was going on at
the company.

This essay will attempt to highlight and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the three main
theories of counselling within the module covered this term. The three approaches in discussion are
psychodynamics, cognitive behavioural and humanistic.
The psychodynamic theory originated from Sigmund Freud, a medical doctor and philosopher (1856
1939) founded in the 1900s. Freud developed his ideas whilst working as a psychiatrist in Vienna,
collecting information from his patients such as feelings, thoughts and early childhood experiences.
The psychodynamic theory focuses on the unconscious mind. Freud s credence is that different mental
forces operate in the mind. The unconscious mind can be described as being like an iceberg. The ...

The Id is the unconscious state of mind; it is responsible for our voluptuous and immediate
satisfaction. It is our basic drives such as life instincts (Eros) and death instincts (Thantos); it is also
responsible for our libido (sexual instinct).
The Ego is the conscious state, the rational mind which organises our thoughts and makes sense of
them. This develops during the first two years of life.
The Super Ego aims for perfection, it works in contradiction to the Id. It controls our sense of right
and wrong.
Part of Freud s theory was that the Id, Ego and Super Ego were in constant conflict with each other. It
involves the Id wanting immediate satisfaction and the super ego who wants the id/person to behave
leaving the ego constantly trying to resolve the issue.
The Ego uses a number of defence mechanisms to protect itself; these mechanisms are designed to
reduce anxiety and stress. Some defence mechanisms include; repression, displacement, projection,
denial and intellectualisation.
Techniques used by Psychodynamic therapists consist of; dream therapy (making sense of dreams and
interpretation into reasons behind them), hypnosis and free association.
While most psychodynamic theories did not rely on experimental research the methods and theories of
psychodynamic thinking contributed to experimental psychology.
Psychodynamic Therapy was the first therapy used in attempting to explain mental illness and has had

In order to preserve and increase the number of the elephants in Asia, these animals should be
protected and reintroduced to the wild and their habitats must be restored and expanded. One of the
greatest threats to Asian elephants in Asia is the loss of habitat. Throughout the tropical regions of
Asia, humans have cleared large areas of forest and river valleys for settlement (AMNH.org, par. 3).
The World Wildlife Fund states that large industrial and development projects such as dams, tea and
coffee plantations, roads, and railway lines have broken up what was once elephant habitats into small
fragments (par. 1). This fragmentation process hinders the seasonal migration and breeding of the clan.
In addition, habitat loss also affects the elephant s diet. According to National Geographic, an adult
elephant consumes up to 300 pounds of food every day (par. 5). These hungry animals do not sleep
much, and they roam over great distances while foraging for the large quantities of food they require
to sustain their massive bodies, (National Geographic, par. 6). Without having a big chunk of land for
the elephants to graze and roam around, their lifestyles and well being would be in danger. According
to Choompol Ngampongsai, wild elephants in Thailand are mostly confined to small protected areas
that are unable to support the complete home range of an entire
