Italian furniture from the period included cassones, which were chests used as dowries that could also function as seats. Casabiancas were large cassones with backs and arms to form settees. Credenzas were cabinets intended for storing linens, dishes, and silverware. Squabbles were light, wooden dining chairs with narrow, carved backs. Dante chairs had heavily carved arms and legs with cloth backs and seats. Tables were massive and supported by carved trestles. Beds were elaborate with paneled boards, canopies, and side draperies.
