He is an accomplished muralist and figurative painter. Born in 1944 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The artist lives and works in Estoril, Portugal. Studied ceramics and printmaking at Art School in Mar del Plata, Argentina. Graduated in Architecture from the National University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Studied engraving and lithography in the Fine Arts School of Barcelona, Spain. His works have been shown at Solo Exhibitions in New York, San Francisco, Canada, Spain, Portugal and another countries. He has also participated in more than 60 Collective Exhibitions in Argentina, Brazil, USA, Venezuela, Belgium, Spain and Portugal.

James Christensen artwork is inspired by myths, fables, fantasies, and tales of imagination. Applying his eye for the fantastic to people, landscapes and creatures (both real and imagined), Christensen has created a rich and strangely familiar world, rendered with exquisite skill and detail. Painting in a variety of styles, from the lush Saints and Angels series reminiscent of European old master works, like "Madonna and Two Angels", to his whimsical and humorous works of satire like "Resistance Training", Christensen artwork appeals to a broad range of collectors. "My aim," says Christensen, "always begins with a desire to connect with another imagination." Lucca is a city and comune in Tuscany, Central Italy, situated on the river Serchio in a fertile plain near the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is the capital city of the Province of Lucca. Among other reasons, it is famous for its intact Renaissance-era city walls. Lucca was once referred to as the “City of One Hundred Churches”. Today, the number has dwindled, yet the style, grace and beauty still impress. Opening to a relatively large piazza, the façade of San Frediano never fails to impress visitors with its glass, gold and precious stone inlaid mosaic. The Basilica was built during the 6thCentury and the current appearance of the church, very Romanesque in style, was completed in the 12th Century. Named for an Irish Bishop of Lucca (Fridianus), the interior of the church is striking in its austere simplicity. Ridolfo Luigi Boccherini (1743 – 1805) the Italian classical era composer and cellist whose music retained a courtly and galante style while he matured somewhat apart from the major European musical centers, was born in Lucca, Italy, into a musical family.

In her early life Olga Marciano (Italian, 1962) was a lawyer, university assistant, writer, and later an entrepreneur, and was born with an explosive passion for art. The Feast of the Annunciation is one of the earliest Christian feasts, and was already being celebrated in the fourth century. There is a painting of the Annunciation in the catacomb of Priscilla in Rome dating from the second century. Arguably, no subject has been more profoundly felt and more beautifully handled by the old painters, nor more vilely mishandled by the moderns than the Annunciation, of all the scenes in the life of Mary. Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary is the Christian celebration of the announcement by the angel Gabriel to Virgin Mary that she would conceive and become the mother of Jesus the Son of God. The Annunciation has been a key topic in Christian art in general, as well as in Roman Catholic Marian art, particularly during the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

Alexei Lyapunov and Lena Ehrlich are the two members of People Too, an illustrative team from Novosibirsk, Russia that draws elaborate scenes on pieces of sheet music. The colourful works capture both pastoral and urban landscapes, detailing vignettes of people fishing, dancing, and commuting. Musical notations from the songs are often incorporated into the illustrations —notes becoming steps, hills, or trunks of trees.

Lilacs have been a source of inspiration for artists throughout history; Impressionists Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet both made famous paintings depicting the beauty of lilacs. Lilacs are ubiquitous both within curated gardens and in the wild. Lilacs have a deep-rooted history originating in ancient Greek mythology. It was said that Pan, the god of forests and fields was hopelessly in love with a nymph named Syringa. One day he was pursuing her through a forest and, afraid of his advances, she turned herself into a lilac shrub to disguise herself. To Pan’s surprise, he could not find Syringa, but he did find the shrub. Because a lilac shrub consists of hollow reeds, he cut the reeds and created the first pan pipe. The scientific name for lilac is Syringa vulgaris, and the name is derived from the Greek word “syrinks” which means pipe. Mădălina Andronic, an established name among Romanian illustrators has developed a unique and easily recognisable style, being heavily inspired by fairy tales and folklore. Her work is quite varied, ranging from book illustrations and stationery to ceramics and wearables. Cămăși nemuritoare / Timeless Shirts is a two-volume book that celebrates Romanian culture and, according to Mădălina Andronic, is meant to be a bridge between the past and the present, being at the same time an ode to the women who keep the ancestral traditions alive. The two books share stories and details of the traditional Romanian shirt (ia), which is part of the national costume. The launch of Timeless Shirts coincides with a very fortunate event: UNESCO has included the traditional blouse with embroidery on the shoulder (altiță)—an element of cultural identity of Romania and the Republic of Moldova—in its patrimony of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. For centuries, Africa has been home to a multitude of societies with different cultural landscapes, social structures, and strongly defined aesthetic ideals. In the absence of the written word, Africa’s legacy consists of a vast mélange of complex symbols, patterns, and signs. These aesthetically abstract configurations and unique characters replaced linguistic symbols commonly used for recording the history of remarkable events, the deeds of great kings, celebrations, births and deaths, and extraordinary occurrences. Mary Nooter Robert in Inscribing Identity: The Body, suggests “symbols that replaced letters or characters represent the sounds of a language, a logographic system in which a single character represents a word” (Robert 2007:57). Therefore, Africa has contributed to the world a rich tradition of typography; from ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, to rock inscriptions found throughout the Sahara Desert, as well as rock paintings and drawings in the Tassili Plateau of the Atlas Mountains in the Fezzan). In fact, the rich diversity of esoteric symbols throughout Africa has inspired both craftsmen and artists for centuries. They have refashioned the antiquated and unique into contemporary forms, which now appear etched on pottery, cast on bronze and precious metals, carved on wood, woven into textiles, stitched on cloth, or inscribed on the human body.

thGAP - Transgenic Human Germline Alternatives Project, presents an evening of input lectures, discussions and a performative workshop on artistic interventions for future scenarios of human genetic and inheritable modifications. To begin our lecturers, Marc Dusseiller aka "dusjagr" and Rodrigo Martin Iglesias, will give an overview of their transdisciplinary practices, including the history of hackteria, a global network for sharing knowledge to involve artists in hands-on and Do-It-With-Others (DIWO) working with the lifesciences, and reflections on future scenarios from the 8-bit computer games of the 80ies to current real-world endeavous of genetically modifiying the human species. We will then follow up with discussions and hands-on experiments on working with embryos, ovums, gametes, genetic materials from code to slime, in a creative and playful workshop setup, where all paticipant can collaborate on artistic interventions into the germline of a post-human future.

With the rate of unemployment towering high in the country, lack of business and managerial skills or knowledge as well as fear of the unknown have crippled youths from venturing into private businesses that could have encouraged self-employment. This paper focuses on tackling unemployment through vocational/entrepreneurship education as the way to get out of joblessness. It is in the light of this that this paper examined the role and contributions of vocational/technical education to employment generation Awka town, Anambra State, Nigeria. It is obvious from the paper that youths found great value in skills acquisition believing that the fight against poverty cannot be won by just receiving money from rich people every day or every month, rather take from them wealth-job creating skills through vocational education for self-sustenance because anybody who wants to be rich and productive rather than being fed and dependent must start his/her own business. At the end, the paper recommended among others that training and re-training vocational/entrepreneurial skills for youths especially those that have dropped-out-of formal employment or education be facilitated to banish hunger and poverty in the society.

Tackling Poverty in Nigeria, by growing Art-based SMEs

Revolutions come in many varieties. Some tear down established notions destructively, while others consist of forging new paradigms through constructive means such as an ideological or technological innovation that fundamentally alters an individual or group’s creative path. But all have their place in history. This paper charts a course of change in art and art styles, as been practiced by some modern-day Igbo artists. It follows the meandering path that has been influenced by technological advances that have in turn influenced art culture and practices in technique. In particular, this paper examines how the modern-day processes of digital art have attempted to broaden the modern-day Igbo artist’s knowledge base, and has influenced new ways of doing old things. Together these ideas have impacted modern-day art by creating a fertile landscape allowing an artist’s inquisitive tendency to take root and uniquely flourish. The aim of this paper is to analyze the various digital paintings produced by three modern-day Igbo artists (Ikenna Aghanya, Okechukwu Johnson and Chidi Onwuekwe) and in turn examine how the use of the computer, as an art tool has affected their creative process. The paper will also look at the functions of this medium as it pertains to each of the decorative paintings done by these artists.

This painting by Jacques-Louis David, painted in 1821, shows two Bonaparte princesses reading a stamp less folded letter from their father, Joseph Bonaparte, brother of Napoleon. Was it written to them from New Jersey? Yes, it could well have been, as Joseph Bonaparte lived in New Jersey from 1817 to 1838, an exile from France after the defeat of his brother Napoleon at Waterloo. Many exciting stories exist – about his arrival in this country under an fictitious name, slipping by two British frigates which might have claimed him as a prisoner, about his loyal secretary, returning to his estate in Switzerland to retrieve diamonds and other valuables buried on the grounds there, about the mansion on the 1,800 acre estate in New Jersey, on the cliff overlooking Crosswicks Creek and the Delaware, filled with paintings and sculptures, and a library larger than the Library of Congress at that time. Joseph Bonaparte came to this country without his family, leaving a wife and two daughters behind in Belgium. His wife (for health reasons) was never able to come to the United States, but his daughters, Charlotte, and Zénaïde, did. This painting was done shortly before Charlotte arrived in this country, and shows both girls reading a stampless folded letter which is presumed to have been from their father, as the words “Philadelphie” and “chères petites” are visible on the page. He wrote in another letter from Point Breeze, in Bordentown, NJ, “I am writing from a room which is the most appealing in the house and perhaps of all the left bank of the Delaware. It has seven windows of which five are on the river. Four times a day the steamboats stop below the windows – I hope that someday I will have the pleasure to be here with you.
