The Characteristics Of Hidden Illnesses
Hidden Illnesses

Hidden Illnesses Depression, anxiety, personality, eating, trauma related, and substance abuse
disorders are only a small amount of mental illnesses that are known to man. Each disorder differs
from one another and none are alike when helping the affected to be cured. Many illnesses are hidden
from the public completely unnoticed while others are easy to spot. Mental illness is a condition
changing the way the patient thinks, behaves, and functions. A ballerina named Rosie may appear to
be perfectly graceful and no different than any other as she twirls and leaps across the floor. Many see
her elegance as her turns are spotted to perfection. Rosie finishes her dance and heads into the locker
room, the passion and joy she felt a few seconds ago on the stage vanishes. She stresses over the
mistakes made worried for the judges seeing the imperfect sickle of her footing or the misplacement
of the arms. She throws these feelings or anxiety aside for the thoughts may ruin her passion. Rosie
arrives home, dinner cooked for her celebration of her dance competition. She refuses to eat. A
concerned look appears on her mother s face, curious as to why she will not eat. Rosie expresses how
she is just too tired and heads to bed, but she appreciates the gesture. This example may appear to just
be a simple day for Rosie, but what isn t noticed is the fact that as Rosie lays in bed, she is

Transtheoretical Model Essay
The Transtheoretical Model of Change, a theory model of behavioral change, which has been the core
for developing successful interventions to promote health behavior change. Some of their key
constructs of the transtheoretical model include concepts from other theories of behavioral change.
The transtheoretical model tries to describe how a person acquires positive behavior or how people
modify a problem behavior. The main core of the theory lies on the Stages of Change, also among this
theory, there are independent variables such as: the processes of change, outcome measures,
temptation scales and the decisional balance. Furthermore, the process of change has ten cognitive and
behavioral activities that facilitate the change. This ten cognitive process is: Conscious raising, Self
reevaluation, environmental reevaluation, dramatic relief, social liberation, self liberation, stimulus

Sudden realization has proven the benefits of reducing sedentary behavior; health improvement is a
priority as a goal, shifting from pre contemplation to contemplation. Once enter the contemplation
stage, people will try to engage and stay in their behavioral change for at least six months. Even
thought my behavioral change has only started in the past 3 weeks I m confident that I will be able to
complete six months. The contemplation stage was achieved when I decided to begin my journey to
reduce my sedentary behavior. After initiating the contemplation stage I initiated the preparation stage,
in which my schedule was developed and routines were created. During this stage people tend to take
action as soon as possible, usually in witching a month. Once the preparation stage is complete, self
liberation provides relief to the cognitive process to be able to make the change and to commit to the

Kgb In Animal Farm Essay
The KGB
Wouldn t it be nice to have a secret police force that listened to every word and killed anyone the spot
with no remorse? Well that pretty much sums up the KGB, they were a ruthless secret police service
that worked for whoever was in power for Russia. Under the wrong control they were very
destructive. In Animal Farm the dogs represented the KGB.
The KGB was one of many roots of secret police. The 1st, strongest and most durable, was CHEKA .
CHEKA was originally formed in 1917, during the first days of the Bolshevik government. It played a
major role in the Russian Civil War with multiple investigations and executions. Feliks Dzerzhinsky,
CHEKA s chief during the early years of Soviet power, molded the service into an effective, merciless
tool of the ruling Communist Party (Pringle). CHEKA s power was almost over whelming, so in order

Joseph Stalin was one of the biggest villains of his time. Right off the bat the NKVD s surveillance
was increased and they had claimed to have found enough evidence to uncover anti Soviet
conspiracies among long term part members. This can relate to a part in Animal farm, when Napoleon
(representation of Stalin) had the dogs (representation of the KGB/NKVD) chase of Snowball
(representation of the long term power) for they believed he sided with the humans (representation of
anti Soviet powers). The NKVD was later split into 2 branches, the other being called GPU. Unlike
the other branches of the KGB that stayed stationary in Russia, the GPU would travel the world.
While the GPU traveled the NKVD stayed home in Russia and took care of Stalin s business by
executing people or sending them to gulogs . Gulogs were just dungeons or buildings only used by
KGB. (History of the KGB and secret police in

Sea Eagles Research Papers
Manly Sea Eagles secured their place in the 2015 VB NSW Cup finals campaign by completely
blowing the Wentworthville Magpies away 58 16. Tom Symonds scored a double was inspirational for
the Sea Eagles, while Jayden Hodges was at his creative best out of dummy half. Kurt Aldridge had a
near perfect afternoon with the boot, kicking nine goals from ten attempts in the 42 point victory. The
match began with both teams blowing their first opportunity on the attack, before Symonds palmed off
a defender and burst through a hole after a wonderful show and go to open the scoring for the Sea
Eagles. The Sea Eagles then dropped the ball off the kickoff, and the Magpies capitalised on the gifted
field position when Beau Henry threw an incredibly short ball for Cody Nelson to ... Show more

The rest of the first half was incredibly poor for the Magpies, who were flat in defence and struggled
to make any impact with the ball in hand. The Magpies defence fell for a second show and go in just
the 32nd minute when Manaia Rudolph dummied and charged through a massive hole to increase the
Sea Eagles lead to 18 10. Rudolph then threw a skillful cutout ball on the run just four minutes later to
Berryman, who finished his second try of the afternoon. Tony Satini combined with David Williams to
march 80 metres up field off the kickoff, which immediately placed the Sea Eagles on the attack.
Hodges sold a ball out of dummy half, spun through a defender and planted the ball down to make the
halftime score 28 10. The Magpies dominated the opening 15 minutes of the second term after the Sea
Eagles dropped the ball on the first tackle of the half. James Tuitahi was just centimeters away from
scoring an athletic try for the Magpies, before Williams pulled off an incredible try saving tackle to

Hitler Vs Mussolini
Another significant factor of the similarities that these two leaders shared was their desire of absolute
power. After the collapse of the democratic parliament which was soon replaced by Hitler and
Mussolini s dictatorships, both leaders thought that once gained power, the parties which helped them
obtain such power would not have taken control of it and especially that they would not have
surrendered to their own parties. They were determined that the power was only theirs and one way of
showing it was by expanding their territories throughout foreign countries. In 1930 Mussolini started
growing his power in North Africa, in the Balkan peninsula and throughout the Mediterranean
occupying places such as Greece, Malta, Nice and Tunisia. While ... Show more content on

He had the idea that women s only job was to have kids, cook and be dedicated to religion. For
instance, he defined women as Kinder, Küche and Kirche which means Children, Kitchen and

fact that many of Hitler s principles were not comparable to Mussolini s ones. The biggest difference
between them is the fact that most Italian fascists were against racism and against Hitler s anti Semitist
ideologies. Their main concentration was towards the supremacy of the State, while the Nazi s one
was the race. The Aryans, from Hitler s point of view, represented the highest form of human race.
Whereas Jews, Africans and people who had different human identities such as homosexuals and the
handicap were identified as a threat and as a dark and powerful human kind. Hitler thought that the
only way to dominate and destroy these races was through the strength of the three myths. The first
one known as the Reich regarded the Aryan race, the second myth identified as the Volk indicated
people of different social classes and the last one called Fuhrer was a nickname given to the leader of
the Germans, seen as the most powerful and undiscussed person of the country. On the 25th of
October 1935 after the Nuremberg law, Jews were locked in rooms and were forced to work till they

Data Protection and Customer Privacy
The media, trade bodies and academia has created a large buzz around the Data Protection and
customers privacy in the recent years. The consequences of the issue raised are different legislation
policies, self regulation, and general confusion. In order to be discussed, this controversial topic
should be looked at from two different perspectives: customers one and direct marketers one. From
customers point of view, direct marketing is undoubtedly an invasion of their privacy. Consumers feel
intimidated by the direct marketing campaigns that fire them with different types of unwanted printed
and online media daily. Further, many of them are being concerned about their personal information
being so easily available which makes them feel vulnerable. On the other side are direct marketers
who put a lot of effort in their attempts to engage the audience and build/maintain relationships with
them. Moreover, practitioners believe that they are targeting the best prospects and best customers
(rather than uninterested people) who are willing to buy the products offered and are happy to receive
up to date information about them. Thus, it has been assumed that marketers see themselves as
assistants who help people in choosing the best deals available whereas customers feel like victims
rather than catered for.
Customers concerns about their privacy could be simply splitted up into two parts: unwanted direct
marketing approaches and privacy issues. Junk mail , Spam emails,

We Are All Familiar With Bible Stories And Fairy Tales
We are all familiar with Bible stories and fairy tales. They typically began as verbal stories, passed
down from generation to generation, before they were put down on paper or made into a film. Stories
which use outlandish situations to, ideally, teach the readers how to live as good people. Stories such
as Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs, Snow White, Jonah and the Whale, Noah s Ark, Hansel and
Gretel, and The Adventures of Pinocchio include situations which could not have possibly happened.
These stories may help lull children to sleep but, at the same time, teach morals in a harsh or even
violent manner. Like fairy tales, the Bible was written to teach stories to impressionable minds.
Unlike fairy tales, Bible stories are still read today, they are not only read by children, but by adults
with or without children. Many Christians today will argue that the Bible stories, such as Jonah and
the Whale, Noah s Ark, Adam and Eve, and such, were not written to take literally. If they are correct
in assuming those stories are not literal encounters, then how would someone venturing through the
bible know what to take literally and what to take as the word of God? If the stories of the Bible were
never meant to be accepted as real events, then can they be considered fairy tales? If all stories in the
bible are, in fact, the word of God and meant to be taken literal, then scientists need to re evaluate
almost everything they know about the world and how it works. It is

Persuasive Essay On Energy Drinks
Deadlines are approaching and you re staying up late doing homework and studying for your midterm
tomorrow. Finally, you crash way later than you would ever want. This doesn t bode well for your
energy and attention span for the next day. You wake up exhausted from the lack of solid sleep and the
heavy studying from the night before. There s no time for a refreshing shower because you slept in as
far as possible before class. You roll out of bed with so much regret. Why do you always leave
everything till the last minute? It s too late now. The midterm is today and you must stay alert. How
will you manage on such little sleep? You don t have a Kuerig coffee maker in your dorm room so the
next best and most convenient option would be to head to the vending machine. Next thing you know
you are popping the tab on an energy drink. You down the sugar filled Monster on your way to class
and your heartrate is already increasing.
It is a common misconception today that energy drinks such as Monster, Rockstar, and shots of 5 Hour
Energy are an alternative option for coffee. This is far from the truth, as energy drinks contain over
five times the amount of caffeine as coffee. Not only do they contain more caffeine than the body can
handle but, include many other chemicals and sugars as well. The labels on energy drinks don t help
much as they are not required to state the amount of caffeine nor is it mandatory for the company to
state all the ingredients. On the outside, it may even

Example Of Cognitive Dissonance
Cognitive dissonance is the sense of mental disorganization or imbalance that may prompt a person to
change when new information conflicts with previously organized thought patterns. The text states,
The incompatibly between your behavior and your new knowledge will make you feel uncomfortable
(381).
I have experienced cognitive dissonance when preparing for an exam. For instance, I will not study or
not study as well as I should for a test. Then when I receive my test back or my score is posted, I
realize that I really should have studied a lot harder. Then for the next exam I would try to study
earlier and harder so I could retain the information so I would perform well on the test. Going into the
class I know that I have a test, but I still do not study for it. I know that by not studying it will hurt my
grade, but I do it anyways, then once I see my grade I realize that I cannot do that again. Otherwise,
my grade would plummet and my GPA could be affected as well.
Another example is when you try to get through a class just by memorizing the information, and not
being able to retain any of it. I have gone through several classes where I just hurry and memorize as
many facts and examples as I can so I will get through the class and still earn a good grade. I end up
not being able to remember such information after the semester is over. An example of this would be
my Chemistry class. I am an Early Childhood Education major, and I do not need to know Chemistry
to be able

The Controversy Between Science And Pseudoscience
Climate deniers are accused of practicing pseudoscience, as are intelligent design creationists,
astrologers, UFOlogists, parapsychologists, practitioners of alternative medicine, and often anyone
who strays far from the scientific mainstream. The boundary problem between science and
pseudoscience, in fact, is notoriously fraught with definitional disagreements because the categories
are too broad and fuzzy on the edges, and the term pseudoscience is subject to adjectival abuse against
any claim one happens to dislike for any reason. In his 2010 book Nonsense on Stilts (University of
Chicago Press), philosopher of science Massimo Pigliucci concedes that there is no litmus test,
because the boundaries separating science, nonscience, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

That is, does the revolutionary new idea generate any interest on the part of working scientists for
adoption in their research programs, produce any new lines of research, lead to any new discoveries,
or influence any existing hypotheses, models, paradigms or world
views? If not, chances are it is
pseudoscience.
We can demarcate science from pseudoscience less by what science is and more by what scientists do.
Science is a set of methods aimed at testing hypotheses and building theories. If a community of
scientists actively adopts a new idea and if that idea then spreads through the field and is incorporated
into research that produces useful knowledge reflected in presentations, publications, and especially
new lines of inquiry and research, chances are it is science.
This demarcation criterion of usefulness has the advantage of being bottom up instead of top down,
egalitarian instead of elitist, nondiscriminatory instead of prejudicial. Let science consumers in the
marketplace of ideas determine what constitutes good science, starting with the scientists themselves
and filtering through the editors, educators and readers. As for potential consumers of pseudo
science,
that s what skeptics are for, but as always, caveat

Executive Desk Information About Physical Fitness Test

of ADC completing the mission. The selection process used to select Correctional Officer has recently
been transformed through the ongoing LEAN process. In the spirit of continuous improvement, the
agency has examined the physical fitness selection tool used to assess CO applicants and Cadets
ability to perform the job of Correctional Officer. The agency entered into an agreement with a private
firm, Industrial Onsite Network (ION), to conduct an analysis of the current physical fitness standards
used in the Correctional Officer selection and training process and how well they correlate to the
actual tasks that CO s perform on a daily basis. The standards that are currently used in the hiring
process and COTA graduation were implemented after a similar study that was completed in 1991.
Since that study was completed in 1991, many changes have occurred in the Correctional field.
Advancements have occurred not only with the technology we use in our field of work, such as
electronic gates and doors, but also in the medical/physical and testing fields. Legal requirements to
test for only ability to perform job job related tasks have been reconsidered and opinions of experts
and government oversight agencies such as EEOC about what determines a job related test have
changed. The ION group is a professional outside company that specializes in workplace job analysis,

Mandatory Bargaining Definition
According to Labor Relations (1958) mandatory subject of bargaining is noted by the Supreme Court
that the area of mandatory collective bargaining includes subjects relating to wages, hours, and other
terms and conditions of employment. Other subjects such as overtime pay, shift differentials, holiday
pay, pensions, profit sharing plans, rental of company houses, grievance procedures, sick leave, work
rules, seniority and promotion, compulsory retirement age, health care benefits, and management
rights clauses are examples of mandatory subjects of bargaining. The parties can insist on the adoption

an issue represents a mandatory subject for bargaining: 1. Whether it is plainly germane to the
working environment : and 2. Not among those managerial decisions which lie at the core of
entrepreneurial control. The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) as well as the federal courts
have substantial discretion in determining whether or not a particular issue constitutes a mandatory

British Responsibility For The Opium War
British Responsibility for the Opium War
The outcome of the Opium War marked a new age of western imperialism, effectively forcing China s
doors open to the West. How did such a war come about in the first place? At the heart of the conflict
lay incompatible market ideologies: China s interests were in maintaining their traditional tributary
system and suppressing the opium trade, while the British desired free trade and diplomatic equality.
In a complex storyline filled with misunderstandings and failed negotiations, the events leading up to
the war show how in the end, by failing to adequately compensate for the destructive effects of the
opium trade, Great Britain was responsible for the start of the Opium War.
To begin with, the opium trade took a direct hit to China s prosperity, which set the stage for future
tensions. Before the illegal industry was well established in the early 19th century, China benefited
from trade with Great Britain, selling a steadily increasing amount of tea in exchange for precious
silver. However, in the late eighteenth century, the British managed to reverse this trade balance by
exporting opium instead of silver. By the mid 1820s, China s silver was rapidly flowing out of China
to keep up with the insatiable demand for opium. The outflow of silver caused the price to rise eighty
percent between 1800 1830, placing a heavy burden on farmers, whose taxes were assessed in the
precious metal.
Not only was China losing the basis of its monetary

Free the Children from Child Labour
Free The Children from Child Labour:
The Disadvantageous of Child Labour
Two hundred million children are suffering in the world! the world has an estimated 186 million child
labourers 5,7 million in forced and bonded labor, 1.8 million in prostitution, and 0.3 million in armed
conflict .( Basu amp; Tzannatos, 2003, p.147). In Africa, Asia and the Middle East, a huge number of
children are child labourers, and most of them under 14 years old. However, they are working hard as

conditions. They can t have normal lives as other children; they can t go to school and stay with their

Thus, child labour only can cause poor education to children, and can not give them any benefits.
Be abused People think work doesn t harm children, but the truth is children sometimes are abused by
their employers such as work as slaves and they may get sexual abuse. Children are easy to exploit
through manipulation and psychological control mechanisms. They fear of violence and punishment.
Also, they are inexperienced in life, so they only can trust adults. Thus, children easily get abuse from
employers and are controlled by adults. For instance, in the coffee farm in Africa, a worker told a boy
about a child who tried to escape, but failed. The child was caught and badly beaten. This made the
boy afraid and scared. Therefore, fear of punishment make children keep working as slaves for
employers. (Kielland amp; Tovo, 2006). Sexual abuse is really common in African child labourers. It
causes some serious problem to children such as HIV/AIDS. Working children get sexual abuse more
than non working children. For instance, according to Kielland and Tovo. (2006). In their article, child
labour in the commercial labor market , girls work in restaurants longer than boys, and working late
hours in a place where alcohol is served. Some girls provide service which is far beyond food and

How Does Beowulf Contribute To Our Understanding Of Anglo...
The primary objective of historians is to determine the culture of civilizations in the past. Historians
use literature, artifacts, and folktales to grasp an understanding of a specific culture. The epic poem,
Beowulf is the first piece of literature known to the English language. Unlike the hundreds of other
English literature, Beowulf gives readers an insight into the culture of Anglo Saxons in southern
Sweden between the time period of 449 1066 AD. Beowulf contributes to the understanding of the
Anglo Saxon culture by including information about power, religion, and reward. Throughout the
poem, Beowulf is constantly proving this heroicness by crucifying the fiends that are terrorizing
Geatland. After defeating Grendel, Beowulf is rewarded with a gold standard as a victory gift, (69).
This simple reward provides acumen for the use of gold within this time period; the Anglo Saxons did
not use gold as a mean of currency but rather as an identifier for a social class. This quote implies that
instead of paying for food with gold, the Anglo Saxons bartered. Another use of gold within the epic
poem, is Beowulf s barrow that is constructed and filled with treasure after he dies. This further
demonstrates how treasure was not viewed as currency during the Anglo Saxon time period. From the
beginning of civilization, women were not considered powerful, ... Show more content on

This suggests that many of the references to God were not in the original story. Beowulf lacks certain
pagan beliefs such as believing in more than one God. The religion aspect of the poem is not true to
the culture of the Anglo Saxons. The epic poem includes the biblical story of Cain and Abel to
describe Grendel s mother (89). This description would have not been included in the oral poem
because it directly identifies with Christian beliefs. The lack of pagan beliefs and conflict of interest

Poet, author, and filmmaker Gary Soto did not always have an interest in literature. In fact, he wasn t
interested in learning about literature until his college years, when Soto took a look at a poetry
anthology while pushing off a research paper (Fabiano 279). According to author Charles Tatum, Soto
grew up in Fresno, California with his two parents and two siblings. He also lived a childhood filled
with sadness, loneliness, and poverty. (Tatum Vol. 1). Gary Soto got past his isolated and upsetting
childhood and became not only a successful poet and author, but would also become known as one of
the most multi talented and elite writers of his time.

Throughout elementary and high school, Soto was a below average student (Tatum Vol. 1). He didn t
really excel as a young adult, as his main goal was mainly to remain out of prison ( Small Town with

other kids in his area, who joined the army or settled for some low paying job. (Tatum Vol. 1). He
instead attended California State University ( Small Town with One Road 207). Soto never had an
interest in studying literature throughout all of high school, but one occasion, while in college pushing
off a research paper, Soto picked up a poetry anthology (Fabiano 279). One poem that really spoke to
him was a piece called, Unwanted, by Edward Field, in which Soto realized that his alienation was not
strange, but was actually very common for a human to be in that condition (Tatum Vol. 1). This
random decision to take a look at an anthology of poetry would take a toll on Soto s life in ways he
would have never imagined, and completely changed him forever.
After discovering poetry, Soto fell in love with the art. Soto then took a poetry workshop at the
California State University at Fresno with Philip Levine, who showed him that he should use his past
experiences in his writing ( Small Town with One Road 207). In 1988, Soto said that Levine was a
master at teaching how to read poetry(Tatum Vol 1). He graduated from CSU at Fresno, in 1974

How Did James Madison Contribute To The Constitution
James Madison is often considered the Father of the Constitution because many of his ideas
influenced the Constitution of the United States. Though the entirety of the Constitution was a result
of months of deliberation among the delegates, James Madison created important contributions. Many
of Madison s contributions intended for the constitution to protect the citizens of the U.S. from
tyranny of the government. James Madison believed there was many forms of tyranny and wanted to
protect the citizens against all types. Madison believed the most popular and well known form of
tyranny was tyranny of the government. In The Federalist Papers: No. 10, James Madison expresses
himself by stating There are again two methods of removing the causes of faction: the one, by
destroying the liberty which is essential to its existence... By this, James is explaining that in order to
end minor organizations and groups, their rights and liberties must be taken away from them, therefore
creating a government controlled by a tyrant. To prevent this, Madison announced In a single republic,

The Noble Qur an
The Qur an, also known as Kitah Allah (the book of God) is the religious text of Muslim Scripture. It
is the revelation of God that the Prophet Muhammad received by the archangel Gabriel and written in
Arabic language. It provides Muslims with guidelines and detailed teachings for a just society, proper
human behaviors, and an egalitarian economic system. One can only truly understand the teachings of
the Qur an by exploring the life of the prophet Muhammad and grasping the important message and
tone that is held within the book.

His dedication to spread the message of God was phenomenal and he did not give up despite his harsh
treatment. Muhammad received some good news from the city of Yathrib. The city was in need of a
leader and pledged to obey and worship Allah alone and defend him to the death. Muhammad and his
loyal followers fled to Yathrib and left the city of Mecca. Yathrib was later renamed Medinat al Nabi,
the City of the Prophet, and is now known as Medina, the City. Muhammad died in 632, having
conquered all of Arabia for Islam.
He was loved and highly respected by man Muslims. His battle for peace never ended and his message

The Qur an was written over a period of twenty three years beginning on December 22 609 CE, and
concluding in 632. Muslims claim that Muhammad spoke the whole Quran to his followers and many
of them memorized the verses word by word and later wrote it down. The Qur an was divided into 114
chapters, called surah(s). These chapters are arranged according to length, which vary from 3 to 286
verses. The chapters of the Qur an also have a title that comes from a word that is written within the
text. However, some titles are not linked to the subject matter in each surah. The titles have names
such as The Cow (Surah 2), Noah (Surah 71), and The Most High (Surah 87). Each Sura contains an

Church was simply a place people gathered to worship, but over time it proved to be much more than

Public Servants And The Politics Administration Dichotomy
Partisanship is often a pitfall for many public servants, as it can present itself in a variety of dilemmas
(Inwood, 2012). In many instances, public servants are influenced by the politics administration
dichotomy, a democratic phenomenon in which politics and administration are to remain separate
from one another but work together for the benefit of the taxpaying citizen (Drysdale, 2010).
Partisanship influences the issues inherent to this dichotomy because politicians often make the rules
that public servants are trusted to implement. This dilemma raises the questions the presence of merit,
patronage, and loyalty, writes Inwood (2012), all of which can have an effect on a public servant
maintaining their tenure in a bureaucracy.
Similarly, a public servant may find a conflict in remaining non partisan. Consider if a public servant
was ordered to conceal information that they knew might influence the outcome of an upcoming
election. This servant has duty to follow orders, but also recognizes their responsibility to serve the
public interest. Being trained as nonpartisan but taking no action, writes Inwood (2012), may
effectively tilt the balance of an election towed one party or another , which can potentially raise much
larger ethical questions (p. 347 348).
Public Comment The notion of public comment reflects the idea that public servants should, whenever
possible, remain anonymous and stay out of the public limelight (Drysdale, 2010; Inwood, 2012).

The Effects Of Using Math Cooperative Learning Groups On A...
Chapter 2
Review of Related Literature
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of using math cooperative learning groups on a
second grade class at Cypress Cove Elementary School during the academic year of 2016 2017. This
chapter focuses on conceptual understanding and the effectiveness of cooperative learning groups in
math as well as the influence of group processing on achievement.
Making Connections in Math Cognitive development occurs when students use their current
knowledge of a subject s concepts and procedures to learn new material. Math is no different. Students
use what they already know as a foundation for learning new math skills. Teachers who understand
this aspect of cognitive development and know how to build on what their students already have
learned are effective educators (Sidney Alibali, 2015).
In a study of fifth and sixth graders being taught division by fractions, Sidney et al. (2015), found that
students drew on their past knowledge to understand new problems. Students used their prior
knowledge to activate the transfer of the new information.
The Effectiveness of Cooperative Learning
Using differentiated instruction helps build existing knowledge and activates prior knowledge. Once
students have gained a deeper level of understanding, using cooperative learning groups is beneficial
because it enhances academic achievement, student attitudes, and student retention (Hsiung, 2012).
Cooperative learning also provides a natural

showing that the joint explanatory power of earnings and book values has not declined in the latest

a company s internal value by using accounting parameters and concluded that they can be used to

The Queen Of Air And Darkness Analysis
**The Queen of Air and Darkness, a novel written by T.H. White, mainly follows the lives of King
Arthur and Morgause, as well as those around them. King Arthur is beginning his reign after pulling a
sword of a stone and discovering he is the rightful king of England while Morgause is living a life of
selfishness in the Lothian territories with her four sons. In The Queen Of Air and Darkness, White
uses diction and tone to express the importance of devotion in the world through the Orkney boys
relationship with their mother, King Pellinore s love for Piggy, and Arthur s mission of making the
world a better place. Morgause pays minimal attention to her sons while also using their devotion
against them. Nevertheless, the Orkney boys are willing to spend their lives fighting against the
government of England, specifically Arthur. All of their lives Morgause has drilled into their minds
what she wants them to believe, especially the fact that her words are always true. A story that she tells
them often is the reason King Lot, the boys father, has gone away to fight against the Pendragons. She
explains the lineage of Arthur, and that it is the Orkney family s obligation to get revenge. Therefore,
when the boys hear her tell her favorite story (210), they consequently accept it as truth without a
second thought. For no other reason except that she once told them to hate the Pendragons, they are
willing to lose their father and spend their entire lives avenging their

Real Time Web and Viral Marketing

Presentation on the 21st of October 2016
I. Introduction
In today s ever changing world, it s important for companies to react on the run to customers and to
adapt in order to be competitive in terms of marketing campaign. Thanks to the internet, brands can
collet incredible amounts of data concerning their customers. But also due to the development of new
technologies and the faster communication coming together, brands have to raise customer awareness
faster than their competitors. Therefore, brands have to constantly remain aware in order to be able to
react to events or competitors actions.
While traditional marketing is based on the planning of a specific strategy, real time web and viral
marketing are spontaneous. They are also closely intertwined as, as we will develop hereunder, real
time marketing is a key to go viral.
II. What is Real Time Web?
Real time web is the use of technologies in order to receive and share the information as soon as they
have been published. Therefore, real time marketing is the use of technologies by marketers to get
information from the customers but also to share information with them in real time.
Also called NewsJacking or Hijacking, real time marketing is defined as « the practice of brands
engaging their audience via content, advertising, and product placement

Advantages And Disadvantages To Traditional Database...
Advantages of Database Management System:
The DBMS has a number of advantages as compared to traditional computer file processing approach.
The DBA must keep in mind these benefits or capabilities during designing databases, coordinating
and monitoring the DBMS.
The major advantages of DBMS are described below.
1. Controlling Data Redundancy:
In non database systems (traditional computer file processing), each application program has its own
files. In this case, the duplicated copies of the same data are created at many places. In DBMS, all the
data of an organization is integrated into a single database. The data is recorded at only one place in
the database and it is not duplicated. For example, the dean s faculty file and the faculty payroll file
contain several items that are identical. When they are converted into database, the data is ... Show

In DBMS, database and application programs are separated from each other. The DBMS sits in
between them. You can easily change the structure of database without modifying the application

system, the structure of data items are built into the individual application programs. Thus the data is
dependent on the data file and vice versa.
15. Advanced Capabilities:
DBMS also provides advance capabilities for online access and reporting of data through Internet.
Today, most of the database systems are online. The database technology is used in conjunction with
Internet technology to access data on the web servers.
Disadvantages of Database Management System (DBMS):

Diffusion And Osmosis
Why is diffusion and osmosis important and what were the reasons of the experiments performed?
Osmosis helps keep the water levels in cells at homeostasis and diffusion tries to reach equilibrium by
moving to an area of lower concentration. The two experiments were designed and performed to test
the rate of diffusion by measuring the size of the phenolphthalein agar block and the weight of the
dialysis tubes. To begin with, the experiments, The Rate of Diffusion and Cell Size, was to test
whether the rate of diffusion was affected by the volume and surface area. It was hypothesized that the
volume and surface area of the phenolphthalein agar block and the dialysis tubing will have affect on
the rate of diffusion. The first test was the phenolphthalein agar cube which was submerged into
hydrochloric acid for a total of ten minutes along with other solutions tested in the dialysis tubing. ...

After analyzing the results of the data the rate of diffusion for the dialysis tubing and the block
showed evidence of how a cell s membrane functions. Nevertheless, after further examination I was
able to determine that diffusion rate does depend on the magnitude of volume or surface area. I
learned that what caused the smaller 1 cm cube to become clear at a much faster rate depended on the
concentration of the hydrochloric acid. In other words if the proportion of the agar cube increased the
concentration of the hydrochloric acid got diluted and therefore became less effective. As a result, the
agar cube was exposed to the strongest concentration of acid therefore became clear at a faster rate.
For future research it would be useful to measure the concentration of the hydrochloric

Advent Wreath Speech
The Advent Wreath
Introduction
Most have seen the greenery with the candles in December leading up to Christmas, but few know the
truth that surrounds the Advent wreath. Even though it has been used since the Middle Ages, the true
origins of the Advent wreath are unclear. There is some evidence to suggest that pre Christian
Germanic peoples would use wreaths with lit candles during the depressive December in order to
remind them of hope in the future and the days of spring with warm and sunlit filled days. By the
Middle Ages, Christians soon transformed this tradition and began to use Advent wreaths as part of the
preparation for Christmas, in the spiritual sense.
The Advent wreath is represented by a wreath, three purple candles and one rose candle for each week
of the Advent Season with a fifth white candle in the center. Each candle on the Advent wreath is
meant to represent 1,000 years. When the four candles are added together, they represent the 4,000
years, in Biblical time, between Adam and Eve to the coming of the Savior, whose birth was
prophesied in the Old Testament of the Bible. The 4,000 years that humanity had to wait for the
coming of the world s Savior is signified by those four candles. Despite the origin of the Advent
wreath, its parts, the wreath, the colored candles and the single white candle, are all the same and each
has its own specific meaning.

History 3355: US Civil War and Reconstruction
For the assignment I read the article The Confederates and the First Shot. It is a well thought out and
developed argument to the issue of who is really responsible for the start of the Civil War in 1861.
Authored by Richard N. Current, the article seems to be examining the idea that it is Jefferson Davis,
and not Abraham Lincoln that began the war. Why would Richard Current explore this notion? To
begin, if you examine who Richard Current is by profession, you will quickly see that he is a historian
who specializes in Abraham Lincoln. This gives a quick glance viability to the argument, but at the
same time invites the openness for bias or fact picking. Therefore, before reading the article it is ...

Neither party expected the war to be as it is but God says, Woe unto the world because of offenses; for
it must needs be that offenses come, but woe to that man by whom the offense cometh. And if slavery
is an offense of the world, then civil war is an offense that should have been wooed by both the North
and the South and it is an offense that originated from the offense of slavery. Yes, Americans shall
hope and pray for the war to pass by speedily, but if it does not and it prolongs until we can bear it no
longer than so be it. God is righteous, just, and his judgments are

Comparing Macbeth And Throne Of Blood
Celeste Martinez
Mr. Ortiz
English 12
27 February 2017
Macbeth Comparative Essay In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare and the movie Throne of
Blood by Akira Kurosawa, there are two very different narratives. Both specify the same conflict of
Macbeth killing Duncan and him becoming king and having the same characters. The narratives do
have differences relating to the characters on how the stories both play out. In Shakespeare s play
Macbeth the setting takes place in Scotland speaking with their own language. In the movie Throne of
Blood the setting is in Japan were of course Japanese is spoken having a difference from both
narratives. There are many minor differences stories as they both play out yet the plot seems to be
very similar. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Shakespeare wrote his plays he always throws in a drama. As for the director of Throne of Blood
he put all the drama in the ending. The reason why he took away the scenes of Macduff s family.
Kurosawa s narrative became a dramatic irony until the violent ending. Kurosawa did not want
Washizu to die at the hands of a grieving father and husband. He decided to end it with Washizu s
soldiers killing him making the movie have a dramatic change. As for Shakespeare his play involved
of a killer being able to kill the father, Banquo, but not the son, Fleance. Both amazing narratives, yet
written differently to end the story of Macbeth s death. As always not everything can be similar from a
story to a movie. A movie will always be written or directed in any way the director writes the scripts
for the actors. Such as plays they are written the way the writers would want the actors to perform
because they would know how the audience will be captivated by the drama. Shakespeare and
Kurosawa had different ways to write both narratives yet both came out in their own unique way. As
for the audience they could enjoy either both. The same conflicts Macbeth had to show in both
narratives was the murder of the king. Later to him becoming a king that he started to kill anyone who
tried to come at his way. When he became arrogant he dies in the end

Analysis Of The Novel Asterios Polyp Color
Color is commonly used in various art forms as a way to represent feeling and symbolize a greater
meaning than a written text or black and white shading could. In David Mazzucchelli s graphic novel
Asterios Polyp color is used to express both emotion and time through his use of the printer primary
colors, cyan, magenta and yellow. Because of Mazzuccehlli s use of color and the abstract form of his
comic panels, his comic is considered an alternative comic. Breaking the barriers of what readers are
familiar with when it comes to the aesthetics of a comic, while at the same time being able to make it
not seem vastly unfamiliar. Asterios Polyp takes the reader to a whole other world as they are
navigated through the mind and memories of Asterios by narration from his dead twin brother. Similar
to Mazzuccehlli, Paul Thomas Anderson incorporates meaning through color in his film Punch Drunk
Love (2002). In this essay I will compare the use of color in both Asterios Polyp and Punch Drunk
Love with regards to its significance in both, and how form is used to express both emotion and time.
With regards to form, I will focus on the Mazzuccehlli s eccentric panel distribution and the variation
of space in between the panels, which separates it from most comics. Anderson s film alike separates
itself from the classic romantic movie form through both its plotline and cinematography. Had either
Mazzuccehlli or Anderson not incorporated the symbolism of color within their works, I feel

Evolution By Natural Selection
Evolution is the change of traits of a species over several generations. A famous biologist named
Charles Darwin, theorized that evolution happens by natural selection. Many people believe that
evolution requires millions of years but scientists believe that evolution can occur rather quickly. In
Today s world, we have better health care, food, shelter and hygiene. Some might question if our
advanced medicine and technology can lead to a stop in evolution, but in fact we are still evolving
according to some scientists (Neild). There has been much debate and controversy over this statement
but there is no concrete proof to say that humans are not evolving. In fact, there is evidence that
evolution is happening at this very moment. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the past 30,000 years, human brains have decreased about ten percent which is said to be
equivalent to a tennis ball. Wilkens states, Based on skulls found in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East,
the human brain was about 1,500 cubic centimeters 30,000 years ago, and now it s down to about
1,359 cubic centimeters. It might seem like a slow process but losing that much brain mass can surely
affect humans one way or another. Although some people might think that humans are getting dumber
because of the shrinking of the brain, some scientists strongly believe that is not the case. There are
several theories that explain why this phenomenon is happening. One theory states that humans now
tend to rely more on society and smaller brains help us work together. It also states that smaller brains
cause humans to be less aggressive, giving us many social advantages (Hullinger). Another and more
interesting theory states that the reason behind the loss of the human brain mass is because,
Domestication leads to smaller brains. (Alban) Humans learned how to cultivate, find food and shelter.
People no longer need to learn survival skills like our ancient ancestors once did which means that that
location in our brain in no longer being used. A good example of this are domestic animals. Pet
owners provide their animals with food, shelter and love. They are no longer out in the wilderness

The Characteristics Of Hidden Illnesses Hidden Illnesses Tayden Kayli Hansen Dixie High/ Dixie State University 5B Hidden Illnesses Depression, anxiety, personality, eating, trauma related, and substance abuse disorders are only a small amount of mental illnesses that are known to man. A ballerina named Rosie may appear to be perfectly graceful and no different than any other as she twirls and leaps across the floor. Many see her elegance as her turns are spotted to perfection. Rosie finishes her dance and heads into the locker room, the passion and joy she felt a few seconds ago on the stage vanishes. She stresses over the mistakes made worried for the judges seeing the imperfect sickle of her footing or the misplacement of the arms. She throws these feelings or anxiety aside for the thoughts may ruin her passion. Rosie arrives home, dinner cooked for her celebration of her dance competition. She refuses to eat. A concerned look appears on her mother s face, curious as to why she will not eat. Rosie expresses how she is just too tired and heads to bed, but she appreciates the gesture. Well that pretty much sums up the KGB, they were a ruthless secret police service that worked for whoever was in power for Russia. Under the wrong control they were very destructive. In Animal Farm the dogs represented the KGB. The KGB was one of many roots of secret police. The 1st, strongest and most durable, was CHEKA . CHEKA was originally formed in 1917, during the first days of the Bolshevik government. It played a major role in the Russian Civil War with multiple investigations and executions. Feliks Dzerzhinsky, CHEKA s chief during the early years of Soviet power, molded the service into an effective, merciless tool of the ruling Communist Party (Pringle). Kurt Aldridge had a near perfect afternoon with the boot, kicking nine goals from ten attempts in the 42 point victory. The match began with both teams blowing their first opportunity on the attack, before Symonds palmed off a defender and burst through a hole after a wonderful show and go to open the scoring for the Sea Eagles. After the collapse of the democratic parliament which was soon replaced by Hitler and Mussolini s dictatorships, both leaders thought that once gained power, the parties which helped them obtain such power would not have taken control of it and especially that they would not have surrendered to their own parties. They were determined that the power was only theirs and one way of showing it was by expanding their territories throughout foreign countries. The biggest difference between them is the fact that most Italian fascists were against racism and against Hitler s anti Semitist ideologies. Their main concentration was towards the supremacy of the State, while the Nazi s one was the race. The Aryans, from Hitler s point of view, represented the highest form of human race. The consequences of the issue raised are different legislation policies, self regulation, and general confusion. In order to be discussed, this controversial topic should be looked at from two different perspectives: customers one and direct marketers one. From customers point of view, direct marketing is undoubtedly an invasion of their privacy. Consumers feel intimidated by the direct marketing campaigns that fire them with different types of unwanted printed and online media daily. Further, many of them are being concerned about their personal information being so easily available which makes them feel vulnerable. On the other side are direct marketers who put a lot of effort in their attempts to engage the audience and build/maintain relationships with them. Moreover, practitioners believe that they are targeting the best prospects and best customers (rather than uninterested people) who are willing to buy the products offered and are happy to receive up to date information about them. Thus, it has been assumed that marketers see themselves as assistants who help people in choosing the best deals available whereas customers feel like victims rather than catered for. Customers concerns about their privacy could be simply splitted up into two parts: unwanted direct marketing approaches and privacy issues. Junk mail , Spam emails, ... • 8. We Are All Familiar With Bible Stories And Fairy Tales We are all familiar with Bible stories and fairy tales. They typically began as verbal stories, passed down from generation to generation, before they were put down on paper or made into a film. Stories which use outlandish situations to, ideally, teach the readers how to live as good people. Stories such as Cinderella, The Three Little Pigs, Snow White, Jonah and the Whale, Noah s Ark, Hansel and Gretel, and The Adventures of Pinocchio include situations which could not have possibly happened. These stories may help lull children to sleep but, at the same time, teach morals in a harsh or even violent manner. Like fairy tales, the Bible was written to teach stories to impressionable minds. Unlike fairy tales, Bible stories are still read today, they are not only read by children, but by adults with or without children. Many Christians today will argue that the Bible stories, such as Jonah and the Whale, Noah s Ark, Adam and Eve, and such, were not written to take literally. If they are correct in assuming those stories are not literal encounters, then how would someone venturing through the bible know what to take literally and what to take as the word of God? If the stories of the Bible were never meant to be accepted as real events, then can they be considered fairy tales? If all stories in the bible are, in fact, the word of God and meant to be taken literal, then scientists need to re evaluate almost everything they know about the world and how it works. It is ... • 10. Example Of Cognitive Dissonance Cognitive dissonance is the sense of mental disorganization or imbalance that may prompt a person to change when new information conflicts with previously organized thought patterns. The text states, The incompatibly between your behavior and your new knowledge will make you feel uncomfortable (381). I have experienced cognitive dissonance when preparing for an exam. For instance, I will not study or not study as well as I should for a test. Then when I receive my test back or my score is posted, I realize that I really should have studied a lot harder. Then for the next exam I would try to study earlier and harder so I could retain the information so I would perform well on the test. Going into the class I know that I have a test, but I still do not study for it. I know that by not studying it will hurt my grade, but I do it anyways, then once I see my grade I realize that I cannot do that again. Otherwise, my grade would plummet and my GPA could be affected as well. Another example is when you try to get through a class just by memorizing the information, and not being able to retain any of it. I have gone through several classes where I just hurry and memorize as many facts and examples as I can so I will get through the class and still earn a good grade. The boundary problem between science and pseudoscience, in fact, is notoriously fraught with definitional disagreements because the categories are too broad and fuzzy on the edges, and the term pseudoscience is subject to adjectival abuse against any claim one happens to dislike for any reason. If not, chances are it is pseudoscience. We can demarcate science from pseudoscience less by what science is and more by what scientists do. Science is a set of methods aimed at testing hypotheses and building theories. If a community of scientists actively adopts a new idea and if that idea then spreads through the field and is incorporated into research that produces useful knowledge reflected in presentations, publications, and especially new lines of inquiry and research, chances are it is science. This demarcation criterion of usefulness has the advantage of being bottom up instead of top down, egalitarian instead of elitist, nondiscriminatory instead of prejudicial. British Responsibility For The Opium War British Responsibility for the Opium War The outcome of the Opium War marked a new age of western imperialism, effectively forcing China s doors open to the West. How did such a war come about in the first place? At the heart of the conflict lay incompatible market ideologies: China s interests were in maintaining their traditional tributary system and suppressing the opium trade, while the British desired free trade and diplomatic equality. In a complex storyline filled with misunderstandings and failed negotiations, the events leading up to the war show how in the end, by failing to adequately compensate for the destructive effects of the opium trade, Great Britain was responsible for the start of the Opium War. To begin with, the opium trade took a direct hit to China s prosperity, which set the stage for future tensions. Before the illegal industry was well established in the early 19th century, China benefited from trade with Great Britain, selling a steadily increasing amount of tea in exchange for precious silver. However, in the late eighteenth century, the British managed to reverse this trade balance by exporting opium instead of silver. By the mid 1820s, China s silver was rapidly flowing out of China to keep up with the insatiable demand for opium. The outflow of silver caused the price to rise eighty percent between 1800 1830, placing a heavy burden on farmers, whose taxes were assessed in the precious metal. Children are easy to exploit through manipulation and psychological control mechanisms. They fear of violence and punishment. Also, they are inexperienced in life, so they only can trust adults. Thus, children easily get abuse from employers and are controlled by adults. For instance, in the coffee farm in Africa, a worker told a boy about a child who tried to escape, but failed. The child was caught and badly beaten. This made the boy afraid and scared. Therefore, fear of punishment make children keep working as slaves for employers. (Kielland amp; Tovo, 2006). • 17. How Does Beowulf Contribute To Our Understanding Of Anglo... The primary objective of historians is to determine the culture of civilizations in the past. Historians use literature, artifacts, and folktales to grasp an understanding of a specific culture. The epic poem, Beowulf is the first piece of literature known to the English language. Unlike the hundreds of other English literature, Beowulf gives readers an insight into the culture of Anglo Saxons in southern Sweden between the time period of 449 1066 AD. Beowulf contributes to the understanding of the Anglo Saxon culture by including information about power, religion, and reward. Throughout the poem, Beowulf is constantly proving this heroicness by crucifying the fiends that are terrorizing Geatland. After defeating Grendel, Beowulf is rewarded with a gold standard as a victory gift, (69). This simple reward provides acumen for the use of gold within this time period; the Anglo Saxons did not use gold as a mean of currency but rather as an identifier for a social class. This quote implies that instead of paying for food with gold, the Anglo Saxons bartered. Another use of gold within the epic poem, is Beowulf s barrow that is constructed and filled with treasure after he dies. This further demonstrates how treasure was not viewed as currency during the Anglo Saxon time period. From the beginning of civilization, women were not considered powerful, ... • 27. Public Servants And The Politics Administration Dichotomy Partisanship is often a pitfall for many public servants, as it can present itself in a variety of dilemmas (Inwood, 2012). In many instances, public servants are influenced by the politics administration dichotomy, a democratic phenomenon in which politics and administration are to remain separate from one another but work together for the benefit of the taxpaying citizen (Drysdale, 2010). Partisanship influences the issues inherent to this dichotomy because politicians often make the rules that public servants are trusted to implement. This dilemma raises the questions the presence of merit, patronage, and loyalty, writes Inwood (2012), all of which can have an effect on a public servant maintaining their tenure in a bureaucracy. Similarly, a public servant may find a conflict in remaining non partisan. Consider if a public servant was ordered to conceal information that they knew might influence the outcome of an upcoming election. This servant has duty to follow orders, but also recognizes their responsibility to serve the public interest. Being trained as nonpartisan but taking no action, writes Inwood (2012), may effectively tilt the balance of an election towed one party or another , which can potentially raise much larger ethical questions (p. 347 348). Public Comment The notion of public comment reflects the idea that public servants should, whenever possible, remain anonymous and stay out of the public limelight (Drysdale, 2010; Inwood, 2012). Chapter 2 Review of Related Literature The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of using math cooperative learning groups on a second grade class at Cypress Cove Elementary School during the academic year of 2016 2017. This chapter focuses on conceptual understanding and the effectiveness of cooperative learning groups in math as well as the influence of group processing on achievement. Making Connections in Math Cognitive development occurs when students use their current knowledge of a subject s concepts and procedures to learn new material. Math is no different. Students use what they already know as a foundation for learning new math skills. Teachers who understand this aspect of cognitive development and know how to build on what their students already have learned are effective educators (Sidney Alibali, 2015). In a study of fifth and sixth graders being taught division by fractions, Sidney et al. (2015), found that students drew on their past knowledge to understand new problems. Students used their prior knowledge to activate the transfer of the new information. The Effectiveness of Cooperative Learning Using differentiated instruction helps build existing knowledge and activates prior knowledge. Once students have gained a deeper level of understanding, using cooperative learning groups is beneficial because it enhances academic achievement, student attitudes, and student retention (Hsiung, 2012). King Arthur is beginning his reign after pulling a sword of a stone and discovering he is the rightful king of England while Morgause is living a life of selfishness in the Lothian territories with her four sons. In The Queen Of Air and Darkness, White uses diction and tone to express the importance of devotion in the world through the Orkney boys relationship with their mother, King Pellinore s love for Piggy, and Arthur s mission of making the world a better place. • 38. Advent Wreath Speech The Advent Wreath Introduction Most have seen the greenery with the candles in December leading up to Christmas, but few know the truth that surrounds the Advent wreath. Even though it has been used since the Middle Ages, the true origins of the Advent wreath are unclear. There is some evidence to suggest that pre Christian Germanic peoples would use wreaths with lit candles during the depressive December in order to remind them of hope in the future and the days of spring with warm and sunlit filled days. By the Middle Ages, Christians soon transformed this tradition and began to use Advent wreaths as part of the preparation for Christmas, in the spiritual sense. The Advent wreath is represented by a wreath, three purple candles and one rose candle for each week of the Advent Season with a fifth white candle in the center. Each candle on the Advent wreath is meant to represent 1,000 years. When the four candles are added together, they represent the 4,000 years, in Biblical time, between Adam and Eve to the coming of the Savior, whose birth was prophesied in the Old Testament of the Bible. The 4,000 years that humanity had to wait for the coming of the world s Savior is signified by those four candles. Asterios Polyp takes the reader to a whole other world as they are navigated through the mind and memories of Asterios by narration from his dead twin brother. Similar to Mazzuccehlli, Paul Thomas Anderson incorporates meaning through color in his film Punch Drunk Love (2002). In this essay I will compare the use of color in both Asterios Polyp and Punch Drunk Love with regards to its significance in both, and how form is used to express both emotion and time. With regards to form, I will focus on the Mazzuccehlli s eccentric panel distribution and the variation of space in between the panels, which separates it from most comics. Anderson s film alike separates itself from the classic romantic movie form through both its plotline and cinematography. Had either Mazzuccehlli or Anderson not incorporated the symbolism of color within their works, I feel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Evolution By Natural Selection Evolution is the change of traits of a species over several generations. A famous biologist named Charles Darwin, theorized that evolution happens by natural selection. Many people believe that evolution requires millions of years but scientists believe that evolution can occur rather quickly. In Today s world, we have better health care, food, shelter and hygiene. Some might question if our advanced medicine and technology can lead to a stop in evolution, but in fact we are still evolving according to some scientists (Neild). There has been much debate and controversy over this statement but there is no concrete proof to say that humans are not evolving. In fact, there is evidence that evolution is happening at this very moment. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Over the past 30,000 years, human brains have decreased about ten percent which is said to be equivalent to a tennis ball. Wilkens states, Based on skulls found in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, the human brain was about 1,500 cubic centimeters 30,000 years ago, and now it s down to about 1,359 cubic centimeters. It might seem like a slow process but losing that much brain mass can surely affect humans one way or another. Although some people might think that humans are getting dumber because of the shrinking of the brain, some scientists strongly believe that is not the case. There are several theories that explain why this phenomenon is happening. One theory states that humans now tend to rely more on society and smaller brains help us work together. It also states that smaller brains cause humans to be less aggressive, giving us many social advantages (Hullinger). Another and more interesting theory states that the reason behind the loss of the human brain mass is because, Domestication leads to smaller brains. (Alban) Humans learned how to cultivate, find food and shelter. People no longer need to learn survival skills like our ancient ancestors once did which means that that location in our brain in no longer being used. A good example of this are domestic animals. Pet owners provide their animals with food, shelter and love. They are no longer out in the wilderness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
