Jomo Kenyatta Research Paper
In a time of ruthless dictators, Jomo Kenyatta was one of the most influential and controversial leaders
of his time. In 1947, Jomo Kenyatta was elected the leader of the Kenya African Union or KAU, a pro
independence rebel group. For the next three years, Jomo Kenyatta toured Kenya, campaigning for
independence. In 1951, The Mau Mau Rebellion, a conflict between the Mau Mau protesters and the
British Military began. In response, the British declared a state of emergency and banned the KAU.
Jomo Kenyatta was arrested in October of the following year with charges of leading and being a
member of the KAU and was imprisoned for nine years. Kenyatta was released from prison in 1959
and immediately began protesting and educating the people again. Kenyatta soon became a part of the
Kenyan Legislative Council where he was elected to be the leader of the pro independence KAU. On
the Twelfth of December 1963, Kenyan independence was declared and Jomo Kenyatta was declared
Prime Minister. The following June, the Constitution was signed and Kenya was declared a republic
giving Jomo Kenyatta the title of President. The leadership of Jomo Kenyatta greatly impacted the ...

The Arab Spring Uprisings Essay
The Arab Spring Uprisings are political protests against the governments of Tunisia, Egypt, Libya,
Yemen, Bahrain, Syria, Morocco, and Jordan. (Manfreda, ) The protests began in Tunisia when a
vegetable vendor set himself on fire in protest of the actions of the government. This incident is said to
have been the spark that fueled the action of the people to overthrow their governments. This region is
being watched by every country in the world. The world is watching to see how it will affect their
political and economic relationships with one another. Will the areas become democratic nations or
will they become shell states where terrorism runs rampant? December 17, 2010 was a day like any

David Webber s White Shark
The book White Shark opens on a Nazi scientist named Ernst Kruger when he escapes to his
submarine at the end of WWII. He carries a bronze box, no one knows what s in it. He is leaving to
meet his fellow scientist, famed Josef Mengele. Kruger is never seen again, though his shipwrecked
submarine and his box are discovered over half a decade later by a photographer, David Webber.
Webber s curiosity leads him to open the mysterious bronze box. Obviously something is unleashed by
this, as the photographer and the box disappear overboard, leaving only a bloody camera behind. The

Unit 8 P1 Group Policy
Group: A group in an organization is used by the employees or users to read wow and share the
information. The permissions like read, write, execute and share are provided based on the job roles.
Group policy: Group policy can be simply explained as the norms that are followed to assign a job to
user. Windows group policy: It is a hierarchical infrastructure that allows a network administrator in
charge of Microsoft s Active Directory to implement specific configurations for users and computers.
Group Policy can also be used to define user, security and networking policies at the machine level.

Security: A client expects maximum security for the data that is being processed or transferred. So
when giving the job roles to access, work and transfer the data, the group policy editor or the admin
should have a clear idea of the work the use do in the environment. 4. IT requirements: Always have
data about the users and their job roles in the environment, this will allow the admin to provide the
permissions to an user according to the job delegation plan and to ensure that Group Policy is properly
inherited. Justification to the considerations taken to prepare procedure guide: 1. Creating a group
with specific job roles: A group that is an organisation will have different jobs to be performed,
likewise the permissions also vary according to the role. It is very important to delete the job roles to
ensure security and privacy. 2. Assigning permissions to users based on the job roles: The permissions
given to a user depends on the actions they have be performed in the environment. Every permission
plays a key role in their own way. Delegation of permissions need to be done according to job role. 3.

Minnesota Gag Law
In the 1907 Patterson case, Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes declared that he First Amendment and any
similar laws prevent all such previous restraints upon publications... and they do not prevent the
subsequent punishment of such as may be deemed contrary to the public welfare. Holmes later
recognized error in his interpretation of the First Amendment by stating in 1919 that the prohibition of
laws abridging the freedom of speech [and press] is not confined to previous restraints. Holmes
reinterpreted the First Amendment, and soon after, another case arrived in the Supreme Court for
Justice Holmes to vote in defense of a more comprehensive freedom of the press.

JOINT PLANNING 7 Operation Anaconda Joint Planning SFC Durham, Joshua B. Master Leader
Course Operation Anaconda Joint Planning Enemy combatants, in familiar terrain, chose to stand and
fight from fortified positions; forcing commanders to improvise and adapt quickly to unforeseen
circumstances. Support elements received the operational order within just one week of the expected
execution date. Staff elements created analysis and plans on poor intelligence estimates and recent
experience. Strategic planners also failed to establish command and control of the assault force. Lack
of forethought for an integrated joint operation, although ultimately successful, led to the death of U.S.
service members. Joint planning for Operation Anaconda, with its complex variables requiring
integrated skills, failed to account for enemy variables, withheld information from support elements,

The plate was then read for absorbance at 540nm using the microplate reader. The neutral red assay
was chosen because it assesses the lysosomal integrity of cells. As the integrity of the lysosome in
cells is dependent upon a very wide range of healthy internal machinery, as opposed to a single or a
few individual pathways, it provides a good overview of general cellular health as deficient systems
inside the cell are likely to impact on the cells ability to retain the neutralred stain [19] .
LDH release
Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is an oxidative enzyme that changes lactate into pyruvate during
glycolysis. LDH widely exists in cell membranes and cytoplasm, and is released from cells into
culture supernatants immediately after cell damage. Therefore, photospectrometrical assessment for
cell viability through the extracellular leakage of LDH can be applied for the antiviral evaluation of
compounds [20] .
The method using cell line and described previously. The LDH released from necrotic cells into the
extracellular fluid was determined after 4 h of treatment with the test agents by using the
commercially available Cytotoxicity Detection Kit (LDH). The plates were centrifuged at 400 g and 4

Language And Symbolism In George Orwell s Animal Farm
George Orwell s 1946 novel Animal Farm, uses the animals of Manor Farm as a metaphor for the
Russian Revolution and the spread of Stalinism, in order to show the corruption of Communism.
Squealer demonstrates that true communistic power is demonstrated not with the dictator, but by the
mouth who speaks for him. Squealer represents propaganda. Stalin s propaganda used language and
symbolism, along with exaggeration to keep the public under control. Squealer s arguments even
sound alike to Pravda, a paper that was the Soviet Party s official voice in the 1930 s. Propaganda was
widely used during the Russian Revolution. Its purpose was to spread ideas through newspapers,

Engliand Essay
It was but ten meager months ago, that I was called away to the city of Cairnkeld, an old mining town
in the scottish Hebrides Islands. There had been a strange illness in the town, like none had ever seen.
The call was left unanswered for days, dismissed by inspectors akin to myself as tom foolery. Their
desperation spoke volumes of the veritude of their plight, as I of all people was informed of this. I
learned of their curse as I was forcefully yanked out of the gutter, stumbling, as my apprentice and
friend of yore aided me to my feet. His disapproving glare towards a bottle nary a yard away revealed
that which I did not remember, I had been drinking. He came with much needed coffee to aid the

My assistant and I spent the next few weeks investigating individual cases, learning only that over the
course of several days to several hours the victim would turn to stone and when no one was watching
the person, they vanished leaving only dust and gravel. No one knew what happened to them, only
that it was happening more frequently and faster, it started recently before the closing of the nearby
quarry, and there had begun to be an odd coating of slime in places none expected it to be. I spent
several more weeks in this town, investigating the mysterious occurrences, to no avail. I scoured over
every occurrence of this unnatural slime, and after hours of work noticed one building that was
distinctly bare. The Town Hall. I made haste in reaching the building, only to find that abominable
ooze, waiting, almost regal in its disregard for my existence. After then I chased my only lead, the
quarry. It had been closed due to a landslide blocking off theonly road in, and since another quarry had
been opened. As I discussed this with the mayor he dismissed it at first, playing it off as a red herring.
As I was undeterred the mayor assumed a more emphatic tone, forbidding me to set foot near it. I
knew something was amiss. I continued my investigations in the town albeit while longing to see what
truly lied in the quarry. Soon I found myself investigating the records of the town. Deep in the storage
room of the local quarry, I investigated the records

The Black Religious Community, Gospel ( Christian ) Rap
To an entire segment of the Black religious community, Gospel (Christian) Rap has found its way to
the footsteps of the church. The rapid emergence of this music and its subculture has left the church
and clergy alike asking the question why? Especially since much of what I would call secular Rap is
off the hook these days. How so, do you ask? There is a surplus of gratuitous violence, and sexually
explicit Rap lyrics, that currently ride the airwaves and is uploaded into countless IPODs, MP3s, and
Myspace.com websites. And what should we say about the continual overexposure and repetitious
degradation of young Black women, half naked in booty shorts; subliminally suggesting to many that
to treat all women like bitches and hoe s is ok. It also seems to promote a certain image of street
machismo or hembra which suggests that adopting a pimp or criminal type lifestyle with a gold
jeweled cup filled to the rim with Remy Marty VSOP or Gin and juice is the ultimate form of fun, and
that true happiness is wrapped inside a Maybach Mercedes Benz with 24 inch rims and a house
worthy of a write up on MTV Cribs. Finally, this dream life would be nothing without mentioning the
bank account that can only be accessed while visiting the Cayman Islands. Hip hop is now a culture

Common Sense Explanations And The Explanations Of C....
In this essay I will be exploring the differences between common sense explanations and the
explanations of C. Wright Mills theory of The Sociological Imagination. Common sense is based on
people s personal experiences and their opinions, very often constructed from social norms and
generalised views. Whereas, the Sociological Imagination thought up by sociologist C. Wright Mills
(1959) is based on the ideas of thinking critically and skeptically, in order to think sociologically. He
wrote that in order to do this, we have to understand and grasp the link between current society and
history, personal troubles and public issues. There are three main parts to Sociological Imagination:
social structure, biography and history. In this essay I will set forth the ways in which each of these
approaches would explain the topic of sexuality. I consider sexuality to be an umbrella term for
various features, including sexual orientation, sexual activity, masculinity/femininity and gender roles.
Each of which will be looked at in this essay in order to explore the topic of sexuality in relation to
common sense and the Sociological Imagination.
Sexual orientation is commonly viewed as the term to describe an individual s attraction for others;
who they want to have sex with. This sexual attraction is what s commonly considered to be the
representative of their sexuality. The common sense approach to sexual orientation is well educated on
heterosexuality and the LGBT community. LGBT

An Essay on Clinical Negligence
An Essay on Clinical Negligence We have always thought of causation as a logical, almost
mathematical business. To intrude policy into causation is like saying that two plus two does not equal
to four because, for policy reasons, it should not. (Charles Foster NLJ 5/11/2004 page 1644).
To what extent do you consider that Charles Foster is correct in that causation and clinical negligence
should be a mathematical business and the courts have, by introducing matters of policy, confused
what should be a logical approach?
Introduction:
In the article of It should be, therefore it is 1, its author, Charles Foster examined the surprise House of

Therefore, it is crystal clear that the harm of the child s death would have occurred even if the doctor

attended would have been clinically negligent in itself. This implies that it was considered by the court

the entire circumstances of the case before coming to the conclusion as to whether the causation
requirement has been satisfied.

5. [1997] UKHL 46, HL. The approach can be seen even more controversially in the 2004 case of
Chester v Afshar6, which Charles Foster has made his comment on as mentioned. This case involved a
doctor s clinical negligent failure to warn a patient about the risk inherent in a medical procedure.
There exists a need for the patient s consent to medical treatment to be fully informed. The
complication with respect to causation arose because the patient admitted that she would have still
undergone the surgery even if she had been warned about the risks of paralysis which unfortunately

Media Bias In Society
Media bias can be seen today on every type of media coverage that exists. Media bias is how the
person reporting the information perceives it, whether through their language when they speak about
the subject or their choice of words used in the article they wrote. A trending and important topic,
subject to such media bias is genetically modified organisms. These GMOs have modified DNA
which leads to better traits. For example, some modifications are to be able to withstand lower or
higher temperatures to growing bigger and at a faster rate. The perception of GMOs in society is
heavily split into two factions. One side is supporters of GMOs as they see it as a necessity in today s
society of billions of people. The other side is the people against GMOs who believe GMOs are not
actually beneficial to the society and may cause negative effects in overall human health. GMOs is
profoundly shown biasedly through people in all types of media coverage, like magazines,
newspapers, radio segments, the internet, or televised news segments since the people reporting use
multiple fallacies.
Media bias pertaining to GMOs can be seen in magazine articles. An article by Time magazine called
FOOD: GMOs Are Our Destiny is biased towards GMOs (Jahren, 2016). The article uses the appeal to
emotion, the attempt of persuasion through the use of emotion and feelings. For example, the author

Who Is Ernest Van Den Haag Determining The Death Penalty
The Right to Life: Executing the Death Penalty The death penalty is a punishment given to people
who commit heinous crimes. Since 1976, there have been over 1,390 executions. But does that make
the death penalty, necessarily, a correct and justifiable form of punishment? The death penalty is our
harshest punishment, states Ernest van den Haag, author of The Ultimate Punishment: a Defense. Van
den Haag, in his article, argues how the death penalty is effective and should be used. However, Jack
Greenberg, James P. Gray, and Jeffery Reiman, all concur that the death penalty should not be used as
a punishment for criminals. Jack Greenberg, author of Against the American System of Capital
Punishment, argues how the death penalty is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Van den Haag argues how There has been no conclusive statistical demonstration that the death
penalty is a better deterrent than are alternative punishments (1665). Even though van den Haag
explains that deterrence might not be the best argument for supporting the death penalty, he does
discuss how the certitude of the death penalty tends to be more formidable than imprisonment. Van
den Haag also explains that even though the death penalty may not deter hundreds of murderers, is
still deters some. Sparing the lives of even a few prospective victims by deterring their murderers is
more important than preserving the lives of convicted murderers because of the possibility, or even the
probability, that executing them would not deter others (van den Haag 1666). On the other hand,
Greenberg, Reiman, and Gray argue against deterrence and how it is not a leading factor for justifying
the administration the death penalty. Because of the goals that our criminal justice system must satisfy
deterring crime, punishing the guilty, acquitting the innocent, avoiding needless cruelty, treating
citizens equally, and prohibiting oppression by the state America simply does not have the kind of
capital punishment system contemplated by death penalty partisans (Greenberg 1670). Greenberg
argues how due to the American system of capital punishment, deterrence is not a factor due to the
infrequent, random, and erratic executions of this system

The Sex Trade Still Exists
No one said life would be easy. Every day is filled with trials and tribulations which must be
overcome to get to the next. What we face here in the United States is, as we see it, extreme. We see
homeless people, families struggling to get by, stock market failing, gas prices rising, unemployment
going up, and much more. But elsewhere, their struggles are different. Their obstacles in life are more
challenging than our measly problems in this first world country. The sex trade still exists, slavery
among women and children, trafficking of girls and drugs, and so much more. From the book Sold by
Patricia McCormick comes a story about a girl named Lakshmi and her struggles from the mountains
of Nepal carried to Happiness House where she was sold into the sex trade, and through it all is able to
learn that, simply to endure, is to triumph (16). Lakshmi grew up a poor mountain girl in a village in
Nepal. From an early age she was willing to do whatever it took to get a tin roof for her family. Let me
go to the city. I can work for a rich family...and send my wages home to you (1). Having a tin roof in
their village meant they had some money and they would be safe and dry form the rain. However,
Lakshmi s stepfather gambled away everything he owned and eventually even Lakshmi. Lakshmi
lived and learned in a Patriarchal world. From early on she was taught by Ama, her mother, what her

(McArdle). Even President Barack Obama acknowledged this in a 2012 speech, saying that The
incomes of folks with a college degree are twice as high as those who don t have a high school
diploma (Lemann). While a college education is a good investment for the long run, the cost of
college is not a positive. The price of goods has risen due to inflation over the past decade, but during
that time college increased drastically. The rates have nearly doubled, but the things that students learn
still remain the same. If students are paying so much more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The plan will help the state to reach its goal of helping 60 percent of Idahoans between the ages of 25

Not only is college becoming more common, but it would make sense that with more students coming
into college that the rates would be lower. However, colleges are not decreasing costs, but instead
increasing them, making tuition costs harder on students. The job market is evolving, causing college
to be essential to anyone that wants to pursue a job. In a 2012 speech, President Barack Obama said
that right now, the unemployment rate for Americans with a college degree or more is about half the
national average (Lemann). This shows that even with a college degree, the job market is changing,
causing many students to be unemployed.Yet at the same time, people that have a college education
are better off than those without one. Moreover, the current job market is becoming more information
based, which requires more literacy, math skills and critical thinking. Since the United States is not

Graffiti Essay
GRAFFITI: A VISUAL DIALOUGE
Graffiti: term applied to the arrangement of institutionally illicit marks in which there has been an
attempt by an individual or group of individuals (usually not professional artists) to display upon a
wall or surface that is usually visually accessible to the public. Even if one has never seen graffiti
before, a negative image would probably pop into one s mind after reading this definition. Graffiti is
not only a work of art, it also includes the underground culture that surrounds and reveres that art.
Graffiti has been found in early societies, but is most commonly associated with modern, urban
environments.

This mentality is not only ignorant, but it is also unsupported. Gang related graffiti was more popular
in the past. But because of its pseudo affiliation with gang activity, police crack down hard on writers.
Writers can face fines and even jail time for expressing themselves with spray paint. The tactic many
police departments employ to stop graffiti is to paint over graffiti ridden walls. Little do they know
that this only provides a blank wall for other writers, and often has little or no affect.
Because graffiti is illegal, writers must choose to cover their identities with a nickname. Some of the
more famous Atlanta area writers are Crisis, Haze, and Rem. Writers often go to drastic measures to
create what they call pieces . The term piece is derived from the word masterpiece . A large piece can
take 5 10 hours to complete. Although most graffiti is considered illegal, a few legal yards exist. A
yard is a popular place to create graffiti. A yard could be a parking deck, abandoned warehouse,
freight train yard, or a basketball court. The graffiti community looks down upon and condemns
writing on private property like a home, school, or store. This is more along the lines of vandalism,
and it makes the entire graffiti community look bad.

Furthermore, this acquisition explains the currency translation adjustment made in the theme parks
segment during 2015 and 2016 to represent current United States dollars. Additionally, another
enormous acquisition was in the filmed entertainment segment in 2016. Comcast acquired
DreamWorks Animation for $3.8 billion, of which $2.7 bilion was recognized in 2016 (Stelter, 2016).
With this acquisition, NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burker said Dreamworks will help us grow our film,
television, theme parks and consumer products businesses for years to come (Stelter, 2016).
Consequently, the entrance into the filmed entertainment and theme parks segment explains the
decrease in gross profit percentage from 2014 to 2016 along these business segments. Moreover,
Comcast closed a multi year movie distribution deal with Alibaba to tap into the Chinese Market,
which Furious 7 and Jurassic World made almost $630 million in the box office (Krause, 2015). This
deal was a move towards distribution of their filmed entertainment segment outside of the United
States. Moving forward, cable networks increased $232 million, which is in part to the
reclassifications of certain operations and businesses from corporate and other to this segment. Be on
the lookout for NBCUniversal s new $3.3 billion park in Beijing set to open in 2019 (Hertzler, 2014).

What Was The Role Of Railroads In 19th Century
Introduction
The Industrial Revolution and the expansion of new markets across the world demanded and required
a new way of transportation and communication. Many people considered the development and
modernization of the railroads during 1750 1850 a crucial moment in history, which impacted the
growth and empowered multiple nations across Europe. The railroads were the most important aspect
in shaping a new Europe during the 18th and 19th century because they unified Europe through the
improvement of transportation, economical growth including new military strategies and

The Industrial Revolution helped multiple industries to enlarge their manufacturing capacities. In early

Summary Of Peter Eisinger s Essay Is Detroit Dead
In his essay Is Detroit Dead?, Peter Eisinger investigates the slow decay and degradation of the city of
Detriot, and argue that it is no longer a living city. He uses the analogy of a patient who is diagnosed
with a terminal disease to help prove his point. Eisinger looks at the lack of self governance,
inefficient and eroding public services, and the shallow indigenous labour pool in Detroit, to sustain
his argument that Detroit is on the cusp of death. As well, he uses other literature that points out the
mass migration of Detroiters that started in the 1950s, and the rapid decline of the auto industry.
Eisinger also discusses limitations in finding numerical data for the exact amount of debt Detroit has
and with the proportion of Detroiters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He argues that the city does not have an elected official running the city; instead, the state appointed a
bankruptcy lawyer, Kevyn Orr, who answers only to the state governor (Eisinger, 2013). As such, Orr
does not serve the residents of Detroit specifically, which Eisinger states is a central urban function of
a city. Instead, Orr is primarily in charge of recasting the city budget and selling assets to help pay off
the extraordinary debt, and published a report of the situation in Detroit in 2013. Eisinger also argues
that the public services in Detroit are in crisis. The effectiveness and efficiency of the police
department is extremely low (Eisinger, 2013), and that the public transportation system is unreliable; it
should be noted that Detroit is one of the few cities in the United States without public transportation
between the city and its major airport. (Eisinger, 2013). As well, Eisinger states that the indigenous
labour pool holds little attraction to employers in technology or information fields. (Eisinger, 2013).
The city is the 94th least educated in the United States, and less than 15% of city adults have a college
or postgraduate education (Eisinger, 2013). From these arguments, and from other literature, it is clear
that Eisinger s argument that Detroit is no longer a living city may hold truth to

Pecola Race
Through the dynamic characters and character experiences that occur within the book, Toni Morrison
is able to illustrate a racist America where society reinforces the idea that the white race is superior.
Colored characters are taught by society that their own race is subordinate and that they are not worthy
of the same amount of respect as their superiors. These characters continue to teach this idea within
their race and create an ideology that even within the same race appearance decides whether or not a
person is worthy. This instills the idea of self hatred and the longing to be a blue eyed middle class
person. Characters associate the white and blue eyes with that of economic stability and self worth.

Pennies Should Be Eliminated Essay
Find a penny, pick it up, all day long you ll have good luck. This commonly used saying is being
valued less and less as the days progress. On a daily basis, thousands of people walk down the streets
of busy cities. Today the majority of people state that when they pass by a penny on the ground, they
don t stop to pick it up. Due to this and many other reasons penny production should cease. In society,
other countries have chosen to withdraw their coins, pennies lack circulation, and they are costly to
produce, leading us, as a nation, to lean towards the decision of stopping their production.
Each day, around the world, countries and governments choose to make changes daily, leading citizens
to believe that the use of the penny could easily be abolished. Back in the 1800 s, America partook in
the use of a half cent. In 1857, the government decided that it was too much of a nuisance and was not
used often enough. As a nation, we chose to stop its production. After its eradication, there was no

Risk And Politics Of Disaster Coverage
Analysis of Risk and Politics of Disaster Coverage in Haiti and Katrina
Introduction and Purpose of the Study The article, Risk and Politics of Disaster Coverage in Haiti and
Katrina, by Jennifer Petersen of the University of Virginia, which appeared in the journal
Communication, Culture Critique in 2014, provides a comparison and contrast of the media coverage
of Hurricane Katrina (2005), which devastated the U.S. Gulf Coast and was the costliest natural
disaster in the nation s history, and the Jan. 12, 2010 earthquake in Haiti, which devastated one of the
poorest nations in the Western Hemisphere. The purpose of the article is to discuss the reasons why
the news media framed Hurricane Katrina as an unmitigated and unimaginable catastrophe that
violated expected norms, while the 2010 Haiti earthquake was framed as an almost routine and
manageable crisis, despite the fact that the Haiti earthquake caused much more loss of life and human
suffering than Katrina. This purpose is discussed in both the short, nine line abstract, and the
introduction.
Literature Review and Research Questions Petersen cites more than 50 sources as references for her
study. Many of these sources are the news programs on NBC and CNN, which she compared when
reviewing the coverage of each disaster. However, the reference list also includes a fair number of
other scholarly journal articles and publications by reputable academic publishers. The author

the combine altogether grew stronger. Towards the end of the novel, McMurphy s humor and
influence on the men have made them more confident and have finally allowed them to overcome the
power of the Nurse. Through McMurphy s actions, the men are less afraid of her and more willing to
challenge her authority. This is mostly seen in the scenes where they vote to get what they want like

Canterbury Tales Character Analysis
The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer is a collection of stories referring to a group of pilgrims on
a journey to the Canterbury Cathedral. Geoffrey Chaucer, the author was born in the year of 1343 in
the beautiful city of London, and later died on October 25th in 1400. Geoffrey began his adulthood
fighting for england in the Hundred Years War. After the war he pursued his passion in writing and
English literature, beginning known as the Father of English . His favorite style was Vernacular
Literature. He is also the first poet to be buried in Westminster Abbey s Poets Corner.
Throughout the Pardoner s Tale he preaches about greed, drinking, blasphemy, and gambling but in
the Pardoner s Prologue he admits to committing these sins himself. In the Tale itself the pardoner also
condemns to people who drink and says, Witness the Bible, which is most express/That lust is bred of
wine and drunkenness . Each character s tale is started with an introduction to the characters story,
followed by their story, and then an epilogue, which wraps the story up... The characters tell the other
characters the theme they will be addressing, and then the conclusion they can draw from that theme,
Morality is a major theme present in these tales. The characters are introduced in a descending order
of morality, where they are also split into three classes: the clergy, the nobility, and the peasants and
commoners. The reason Chaucer uses social commentary when describing the characters in the
prologue is for example the knights are supposed to be chivalrous and noble, but instead the chaucer
describes his knights as such. The reason 29 men are on there way to the Canterbury Cathedral is to
visit the Shrine of St. Thomas Becket. During their voyage they all share multiple stories, a bright idea
is brought up to make a wager saying they will give a prize to the person who tells the best story.
Geoffrey Chaucer, reexamines those who play a more stereotypical role in the book than others and
help re create a new role for them to be twisted into society with. Chaucer discusses different
stereotypes and separates his characters from the social norm by giving them highly ironic and/or
unusual characteristics. Specifically, in the

Extinction Of The Dinosaurs
The mass extinction of the Cretaceous period
The debate over what happened to the dinosaurs have been one of the most controversial research
topics in history. One minute, the earth was blooming with countless trees and a healthy environment,
then, in the period of seconds, all life on earth was wiped out, creating a mass extinction across the
globe (Bond, 2017). Discovering what ended the cretaceous period has been a major priority in the
scientific world, however, with enough modern day research, scientists have nailed the extinction of
the Dinosaurs down to two major theories; the asteroid impact theory, and the volcanic eruption
theory, both being extremely alike.
As research has been undertaken, scientists have evaluated all possible theories, distinguishing that
there are two major possibilities; the volcano theory and the asteroid impact theory. Both theories are
highly comparable, yet both have distinguishing qualities that indicate their differences. The Volcano
theory, affecting the wide spread area of India has been proven as a major factor to the discovery of
why the dinosaurs became extinct. Research indicates that 65 million years ago, monstrous lava beds
called Deccan traps covered the surface of the earth, over an area of 500 000 square kilometres

Marketing Strategy Of Stealth Marketing
INTRODUCTION
Did you know that very day we are imprinted with marketing and we don t even realizing it!
Marketers are eager to find new ways on how to get into your subconscious to sell their product or
deliver their message. This is what is called Stealth Marketing . Stealth Marketing is any marketing
strategy that advertises to consumers without them knowing it. It is used in product placement,
celebrity endorsements, and ad agents.
PRODUCT PLACEMNET Product placement is practice in which manufacturers of goods or
providers of a service gain exposure by paying for them to be featured in movies and TV
programming. In the earlier days producers would approach companies to use their products in their
films. During production of E.T., Amblin Productions and Steven Spielberg approached Mars, Inc.
about a possible tie in between M M s and the film. For water reason, Mars said No to their
proposition. By declining this offer, Mars paved the way for Hershey s Reese s Pieces. Hershey agreed
to do a tie in between the movie and the candy after the film was released. A deal was contracted
wherein Hershey Foods agreed to promote E.T. with $1 million of advertising: in return, Hershey
could use E.T. in its own ads. (Mikkelson, 2011). The payoff was huge! Reese s Pieces saw a reported
65% jump in profits just two weeks after E.T. premiered.

Pros And Cons Of President Hoover s New Deal
Economics can be defined as the study of the efficient allocation of scarce resources. Scarcity, a basic
concept of economics, states that society has an insufficient amount of productive resources to fill all
human wants and needs. The federal government fits into all of this by guiding the overall pace of
economic activity. They attempt to do so by to maintaining a steady economic growth, high levels of
employment, and price stability. How they carry these actions out, however, depends on which
economic model they decide to follow. The two major approaches to economic policies are the

Dysfunctionality In Arthur Miller s Death Of A Salesman
The effects of Dysfunctionality
Any family can be dysfunctional. Whether it be by the lack of communication, faith, or even the
wrong mindset of others. Arthur Miller captures that perfectly in Death of a Salesman as he puts Willy
Loman the main protagonist in some sketchy situations. The amount of stress that Miller puts on Willy

the drain and on top of that he is going slightly crazy. Willy talks to himself, and with the help and
support of his wife we soon begin to realize that Willy and his wife Linda are co dependent. The
Loman family can be classified as a co dependant and even as a dysfunctional family.
Willy may be losing his mind with talking to himself and basically living in his own realistic

love him. As Willy describes his experience of him not remembering how he was driving and telling

Thomas Hobbes Government
He started out on the philosophy of political science while on his trips and visits to other countries
outside of England to listen to other scientists and learn different forms of government. While
studying, Thomas Hobbes wondered about why people were allowing themselves to be ruled and what
would a great form of government for England. He reasoned that people were naturally wicked and
shouldn t be trusted to govern themselves because they were selfish creatures and would do anything
to better their position and social status. These people, when left alone will go back to their evil
impulses to get a better advantage over others. So Thomas Hobbes concluded that the best form of
government would an absolute monarchy, which is a government which gives all power to the king or
queen to provide direction and leadership to make sure the country doesn t go into turmoil.
To support his ideas, Thomas Hobbes asked the question, If men are naturally in a state of war, why
are they carrying arms and have keys to lock their doors. In other words, even when the country is at
peace, the people are still using things which can get them a better advantage over others and keeping
their own interests a secret from others. According to Thomas Hobbes, the reason this is the case is
because people are selfish and evil and that they protect their interests really well by using certain
tactics to make sure other people devastate their needs and wants. Also, without a leader, these people

Heavy Metal Concentrations On Soil Samples
Heavy metal concentrations in the soil samples taken from each of the six sampling sites are shown in
Table 1. A clear gradient of element concentrations in the soils was observed among the study sites,
especially for Cd. Metal concentration varied significantly among sample sites; Cd (H = 16.596, p =
0.005) had the highest significant differences among the sites, whereas Zn (H = 15.409, p = 0.009) had
the lowest significant differences. Concentrations of Cd, Pb, Cu, and Zn in the soils from S1, S2, and
S3 (distances of 1 2 km from the industrial area) were 4 35 times, 7 27 times, 2 6 times, and 3 6 times
higher than those from S4, S5, and S6 (distances of 4 10 km from the industrial area), respectively (U
test, p ≤ 0.05). Cadmium concentration ranged from a low of 1.9 mg/kg (S6) to a high of 67.5 mg/kg
(S1), Pb concentration ranged from a low of 6.0 mg/kg (S6) to a high of 160.2 mg/kg (S1), Cu
concentration ranged from a low of 51.3 mg/kg (S4) to a high of 292.0 mg/kg (S1), and Zn
concentration ranged from a low of 98.2 mg/kg (S6) to a high of 605.0 mg/kg (S2). Pollution zones
with high metal concentrations in soil and biota are often found near industrial areas (Dudka et al.
1996). It should be noted that the predominant wind direction in our study area is northerly, resulting
in comparatively high levels of soil contamination in areas south of the industrial complex.
Concentrations of Cd, Cu, and Zn in the highly polluted sites exceeded the threshold values (3 mg/kg

Free College Should Be Free
Should college be free? In The Problem is That Free College Isn t Free, Andrew P. Kelly argues that
free college would cost more for the American taxpayer. On the other hand, in Tennessee Is Showing
How Free Tuition Community College Works, Celeste Carruthers states having free college will give
more incentive for students to go to college. It will also encourage them to try community college
first. Although free college sounds great at first, it would be more practical to have programs for
people who cannot simply afford it. College tuition shouldn t be the American taxpayers
responsibility. To Carruthers, college should be free: the price of college is a critical piece of
information for students who are unsure about going, and yet, it is a mystery until after admission and
financial aid decisions are in, often late in their senior year (if they applied at all). Many students and
their families cannot simply afford college, making the idea of going unrealistic. Carruthers believes
that programs like Tennessee Promise will give students who didn t have the opportunity before a
chance to go to college. She states, Tennessee Promise eliminates that uncertainty with a blunt and
simple message: Free tuition for high school graduates of any income and any amplitude. Free college
programs will change the way we think about the academic system. More and more students will be
allowed to continue their academic careers without having to worry about costs. On the other

The Age of Absolutism in France
Absolutism in France
(Order #A2068670) European monarchs did not simply emerge on the scene as absolute rulers but
slowly acquired supreme power over a long period of time. This interest in becoming absolute rulers
infected the European monarchs, becoming particularly acute during the religious wars of the 16th
century. As a result of the chaos and destruction, the kings of Europe began to consolidate power into
a centralized system with the monarch at the top. By the beginning of the 17th century a number of
European countries had monarchs who exercised absolute power over their kingdoms. One of the
largest and most populated countries in Western Europe during this time was France, which slowly
centralized governmental power in the hands of a single monarch. France has often been considered to
be one of the best examples of how a monarchy assumed centralized and absolute power; ushering in
the Age of Absolutism. Louis XIV of France is often referred to as the Sun King and is a prime
example of a European monarch who exercised absolute power. However, absolutism in France did
not begin with Louis XIV, but with his grandfather and founder of the Bourbon Dynasty, Henry IV. It
was Henry IV who began the centralization of power by keeping France at peace during most of his
reign by tolerating Protestants. During this time he also strengthened the monarchy s finances by
charging royal officials a fee to inherit their positions. He also lowered taxes in an effort to rebuild

Causes, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention of Insomnia...
Causes, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention of Insomnia
Insomnia means having trouble with the quality or quantity of sleep. It can be caused by difficulties in
either falling asleep or staying asleep. Self reported sleeping problems, hating the sleep quality and
day time tiredness are the only defining characteristics of insomnia because it is such an individual
experience. The concept of good sleep is different from person to person. While the average night s
sleep for an adult is around seven or eight hours, some people only need four, while others like up to
10 hours or more. What seems like insomnia to one person might be considered a good sleep by
another (Florence Cardinal, Your Guide to Sleep Disorders.)
There are three types ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the National Center on Sleep Disorders Research, Chronic insomnia is more complex
and often results from a combination of factors, including underlying physical or mental disorders.
One of the most common causes of chronic insomnia is depression. Other causes include arthritis,
kidney disease, heart failure, asthma, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome, Parkinson s
disease, and hyperthyroidism. However, chronic insomnia may also be due to behavioral factors,
including the misuse of caffeine, alcohol, or other substances; disrupted sleep and wake cycles may
occur with shift work or other nighttime activity schedules and chronic stress (National Institute of
Neurological Disorders and Stroke National Institutes of Health.)
Risk factor studies estimate that between a quarter and one third of American and European adults
experience some insomnia each year, with between 10% and 20% of them suffering severe
sleeplessness. In spite of this widespread problem, however, studies suggest that only about 30% of
American adults who visit their doctor ever discuss sleep problems. Conversely, physicians seem
rarely to ask patients about their sleep habits or problems. A 2003 University of Maryland Medical
Center study suggested that there were seven significant factors that predicted who would be at high
risk for insomnia: Being older, having conflicts with relatives, overworked at a job, at home, taking
care of a

Alcohol And Tobacco At A Young Age
Introduction: During adolescence children tend to experiment new experiences and experimenting
with alcohol and drugs is common. It is very unfortunate that the teenagers often don t realize the
consequences they are going to face in the future due to their actions today. They also have a tendency
to feel indestructible and immune to the problems that others experience. It is obvious that usage of
alcohol and tobacco at a young age would definitely spoil their health and would have many health
issues. Due to the changes during adolescence, some teenagers would try alcohol and tobacco once
and stop, while some would try them and use occasionally. However, there would be some teenagers
who are week and get carried away ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

cigarette was 12 years old. About a quarter of students said they were offered drugs and 19 per cent
said they had taken drugs, above the national average of 12 per cent, but below the figure of 28 per
cent in 2008. Cannabis, Glue and Solvents were the most common drugs used. Among the students
having ever drank there was a 10 per cent decrease in the levels, which was at 43 per cent in 2008,
taking Wandsworth below the national average. Young girls described their emotional health status to
be fair and poor while most students described their emotional health was excellent. In 2013 the
council launched a poster campaign highlighting the consequences of smoking to discourage
youngsters from spoking. The Wandsworth Tobacco Alliance has a target to reduce smoking by three
percent this year. In a meeting Councillor James Maddan, a member of the alliance, said: Reducing
smoking will be a key aim of the council when it retains control of public health in April. Alliance
would continue their work in schools, and work with families and entire community to break the habit
of smoking and other bad behavior that cause ill health. as well as working with whole families, and

Story Of The Hour And The Interlopers Essay
The comparison of The Interlopers, and Story of the Hour is quite easy, considering the two stories
only have a couple things in common. The Interlopers, is about two men whose families hate each
other and they have hated each other for centuries. the two men wonder upon each other one night and
are furious that they re on each others land. In the midst of arguing lightening strikes a tree, and traps
both of them under it. They call for help for hours only to gain attention of the things they wanted the
least, Wolves. Story of the Hour, is about a woman who dies from joy when she finds out her husband
has died. Her husbands best friend heard that he was on a train that had crashed, But both the audeince
and the woman don t know that he is alive until the end of the story, in which it is too late the ... Show

few minutes later, after listening in vain for an answering halloo. Ulrich finally sees something, but its

have seen. Wolves. In Story of the Hour, a mans wife dies only because she was so happy at the
thought that her husband had died and that she would be free again. However the woman did have
heart troubles to begin with, she gave herself a heart attack just by over joy. She wasn t happy at first
as told in paragraph three, She sat with her head thrown back upon the cushion of the chair, quite
motionless, except when a sob came up into her throat and shook her, as a child who has cried itself to
sleep continues to sob in its dreams. It progresses to the stage of joy, it says in the very last sentence,
When the doctors came they said she had died of heart disease of the joy that kills. The differences in
the two stories are great, one is about someone dying from emotions, the other, two people die from

Economies of Scale
Introduction
The conditions proposed by the financial crisis and international markets have ended up affecting the
practice of economies and shared frames of reference on the nature of the problems. A minor
phenomenon in Bangladesh can have substantial impacts in New York or London. The scale and size
categories have become central to the analysis of what is happening. Institutional sizes are related to
risk externalities [Makridakis / Taleb, 2009]. The work produced [Haug, 2007; May, 2008] offer an
explanation of the consequences to take extreme risks in economies (extreme risk). Even considering
the risk corresponds to the capital (original) external losses can become outrageous.
Background
Studies reveal a context in which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The crisis resulting from the excessive size of the banking sector has also contributed to increased
externality (negative) with costs experienced by most people.
In this regard Taleb / Tapiero [2009] consider that it is inefficient markets with negative externalities
to a considerable extent, even though they have ideal conditions of competition (perfect financial
markets). In any firm if negative externalities are not offset by positive externalities, or adequately
regulated, the risk of losses can become outrageous. In a New York Times (Sunday Business section,
October 4, 2009), Gretchen Morgension reference to research by Dean Baker and Travis McArthur,
described the effects of selective failures that allowed some privileged banks (large) were subsidized
with costs above $ 34 million annually.
Size is not the medicine when firms fail. For example, Fujian [2004], using a list of broken Japanese
companies in 1997 ([Bouchaud, 2003]) has drawn the failure of some firms regardless of size. When
business growth is supported by debt to risk exposed is superior because it threatens both the creditor
losses as the lender. Size growth combined with rising debt can lead to colossal failures. It s like
traveling with suicide pilots that guide aircraft dynamited. By taking unsustainable growth strategies
with negative externalities, people end up paying higher costs.

The Four Pillars Of The Japanese Theater
Japanese theater has four main pillars of the classical theater consisting of, Kabuki, Noh, Kyogen, and
Bunraku Puppet Theater. They all have deep roots, the longest of them being Noh, dating back to
1363, after the Prince Shotoku converted to Buddhism, and Kan ami and Zeami refined the court arts
and created Noh (Mitchell 239). Following Noh came Bunraku, emerging during 1603 1867 (Mitchell
240). Bunraku was very popular until Kabuki came out, in the late 18th century, and overcame the
many accusations against the art (Mitchell 242). The interesting thing about Japanese theater is that its
focus is strongly on tradition, and being so it is passed down from the elder people of the generation to
the younger so that they can keep the theater ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the mid 1800 s Kabuki Theater tried to make a revival, and they did, yet it was not as strong as it
once was because they tried to incorporate a multitude of Western culture into the theater (Japan Fact
Sheet). Once they found a happy medium between the traditional culture and the modern culture with
writers such as Okamoto Kido and Mishima Yukio, who were not previously involved in Kabuki,
Kabuki began to grow in popularity again (Japan Fact Sheet). Kabuki today closely resembles the a
close family of actors in the hierarchy, the staging of past plays (Japan Fact Sheet). Kabuki has a
strong alliance with the famous celebrities, and they are often found on the stage (Japan Fact Sheet).
Noh Theater is known as characteristically simple (Introducing the world of Noh). There are no sets or
props on the stage, and to keep it simple the Noh stages have no curtains to separate the audience from
the actors (Introducing the world of Noh). This has stayed the same throughout most of the history of
Noh (What is Noh?). In noh, there is also a sense of unity throughout, all of the Actors and ensemble
are always on the stage together, they function as one, all the actions that they perform on stage are
simple (What is Noh?). A main aspect of Noh is the masks that the actors use. They are called Hannia
they are an extension of the actor and become the face that the audience sees (Noh Masks). Noh
theater was founded

There had been a strange illness in the town, like none had ever seen. The call was left unanswered for days, dismissed by inspectors akin to myself as tom foolery. Their desperation spoke volumes of the veritude of their plight, as I of all people was informed of this. The rapid emergence of this music and its subculture has left the church and clergy alike asking the question why? Especially since much of what I would call secular Rap is off the hook these days. How so, do you ask? There is a surplus of gratuitous violence, and sexually explicit Rap lyrics, that currently ride the airwaves and is uploaded into countless IPODs, MP3s, and Myspace.com websites. And what should we say about the continual overexposure and repetitious degradation of young Black women, half naked in booty shorts; subliminally suggesting to many that to treat all women like bitches and hoe s is ok. It also seems to promote a certain image of street machismo or hembra which suggests that adopting a pimp or criminal type lifestyle with a gold jeweled cup filled to the rim with Remy Marty VSOP or Gin and juice is the ultimate form of fun, and that true happiness is wrapped inside a Maybach Mercedes Benz with 24 inch rims and a house worthy of a write up on MTV Cribs. • 14. Common Sense Explanations And The Explanations Of C.... In this essay I will be exploring the differences between common sense explanations and the explanations of C. Wright Mills theory of The Sociological Imagination. Common sense is based on people s personal experiences and their opinions, very often constructed from social norms and generalised views. Whereas, the Sociological Imagination thought up by sociologist C. Wright Mills (1959) is based on the ideas of thinking critically and skeptically, in order to think sociologically. He wrote that in order to do this, we have to understand and grasp the link between current society and history, personal troubles and public issues. There are three main parts to Sociological Imagination: social structure, biography and history. In this essay I will set forth the ways in which each of these approaches would explain the topic of sexuality. I consider sexuality to be an umbrella term for various features, including sexual orientation, sexual activity, masculinity/femininity and gender roles. Each of which will be looked at in this essay in order to explore the topic of sexuality in relation to common sense and the Sociological Imagination. Sexual orientation is commonly viewed as the term to describe an individual s attraction for others; who they want to have sex with. This sexual attraction is what s commonly considered to be the representative of their sexuality. The common sense approach to sexual orientation is well educated on heterosexuality and the LGBT community. LGBT ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To intrude policy into causation is like saying that two plus two does not equal to four because, for policy reasons, it should not. (Charles Foster NLJ 5/11/2004 page 1644). To what extent do you consider that Charles Foster is correct in that causation and clinical negligence should be a mathematical business and the courts have, by introducing matters of policy, confused what should be a logical approach? • 16. Media Bias In Society Media bias can be seen today on every type of media coverage that exists. Media bias is how the person reporting the information perceives it, whether through their language when they speak about the subject or their choice of words used in the article they wrote. A trending and important topic, subject to such media bias is genetically modified organisms. These GMOs have modified DNA which leads to better traits. For example, some modifications are to be able to withstand lower or higher temperatures to growing bigger and at a faster rate. The perception of GMOs in society is heavily split into two factions. One side is supporters of GMOs as they see it as a necessity in today s society of billions of people. The other side is the people against GMOs who believe GMOs are not actually beneficial to the society and may cause negative effects in overall human health. GMOs is profoundly shown biasedly through people in all types of media coverage, like magazines, newspapers, radio segments, the internet, or televised news segments since the people reporting use multiple fallacies. Media bias pertaining to GMOs can be seen in magazine articles. An article by Time magazine called FOOD: GMOs Are Our Destiny is biased towards GMOs (Jahren, 2016). Since 1976, there have been over 1,390 executions. But does that make the death penalty, necessarily, a correct and justifiable form of punishment? The death penalty is our harshest punishment, states Ernest van den Haag, author of The Ultimate Punishment: a Defense. Van den Haag, in his article, argues how the death penalty is effective and should be used. However, Jack Greenberg, James P. Gray, and Jeffery Reiman, all concur that the death penalty should not be used as a punishment for criminals. Van den Haag argues how There has been no conclusive statistical demonstration that the death penalty is a better deterrent than are alternative punishments (1665). Even though van den Haag explains that deterrence might not be the best argument for supporting the death penalty, he does discuss how the certitude of the death penalty tends to be more formidable than imprisonment. Van den Haag also explains that even though the death penalty may not deter hundreds of murderers, is still deters some. Sparing the lives of even a few prospective victims by deterring their murderers is more important than preserving the lives of convicted murderers because of the possibility, or even the probability, that executing them would not deter others (van den Haag 1666). On the other hand, Greenberg, Reiman, and Gray argue against deterrence and how it is not a leading factor for justifying the administration the death penalty. Because of the goals that our criminal justice system must satisfy deterring crime, punishing the guilty, acquitting the innocent, avoiding needless cruelty, treating citizens equally, and prohibiting oppression by the state America simply does not have the kind of capital punishment system contemplated by death penalty partisans (Greenberg 1670). What we face here in the United States is, as we see it, extreme. We see homeless people, families struggling to get by, stock market failing, gas prices rising, unemployment going up, and much more. But elsewhere, their struggles are different. Their obstacles in life are more challenging than our measly problems in this first world country. The sex trade still exists, slavery among women and children, trafficking of girls and drugs, and so much more. From the book Sold by Patricia McCormick comes a story about a girl named Lakshmi and her struggles from the mountains of Nepal carried to Happiness House where she was sold into the sex trade, and through it all is able to learn that, simply to endure, is to triumph (16). Instead, Orr is primarily in charge of recasting the city budget and selling assets to help pay off the extraordinary debt, and published a report of the situation in Detroit in 2013. Ironically, Adam Smith and John Keynes, despite having been born almost two centuries apart, had conflicting ideas surrounding Say s Law. Adam Smith s Classical supporters agreed with Say s Law and strongly upheld that in a free market, workers would always be willing to lower their wages to a level where employers could profitably offer them jobs (Armstrong Economics). This declaration would have remained true if unionization had not come to rise. Unions are recognized as organized associations of workers formed to protect and further worker rights and interests. Because of unions, Keynes argued that workers would not allow their wages to be lowered. Furthermore, in his General Theory, Keynes proposed that demand was the key to unlocking economic prosperity, not supply. Therefore, Keynes called for an activist economic role for government to stimulate demand in times of high unemployment while ignoring ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Dysfunctionality In Arthur Miller s Death Of A Salesman The effects of Dysfunctionality Any family can be dysfunctional. Whether it be by the lack of communication, faith, or even the wrong mindset of others. Arthur Miller captures that perfectly in Death of a Salesman as he puts Willy Loman the main protagonist in some sketchy situations. The amount of stress that Miller puts on Willy s back is almost unbearable for a person. His kids are back and living with him, his job has gone down the drain and on top of that he is going slightly crazy. Willy talks to himself, and with the help and support of his wife we soon begin to realize that Willy and his wife Linda are co dependent. The Loman family can be classified as a co dependant and even as a dysfunctional family. Willy may be losing his mind with talking to himself and basically living in his own realistic flashbacks, but even as his mind deteriorates piece by piece his wife will continue to help him and love him. As Willy describes his experience of him not remembering how he was driving and telling about how he kept swerving off the road Linda attempts to comfort him and tells him Oh. Maybe it was the steering again (Miller, 3). This is an example of the codependency that Linda gives to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 41. Thomas Hobbes Government He started out on the philosophy of political science while on his trips and visits to other countries outside of England to listen to other scientists and learn different forms of government. While studying, Thomas Hobbes wondered about why people were allowing themselves to be ruled and what would a great form of government for England. He reasoned that people were naturally wicked and shouldn t be trusted to govern themselves because they were selfish creatures and would do anything to better their position and social status. These people, when left alone will go back to their evil impulses to get a better advantage over others. So Thomas Hobbes concluded that the best form of government would an absolute monarchy, which is a government which gives all power to the king or queen to provide direction and leadership to make sure the country doesn t go into turmoil. To support his ideas, Thomas Hobbes asked the question, If men are naturally in a state of war, why are they carrying arms and have keys to lock their doors. In other words, even when the country is at peace, the people are still using things which can get them a better advantage over others and keeping their own interests a secret from others. According to Thomas Hobbes, the reason this is the case is because people are selfish and evil and that they protect their interests really well by using certain tactics to make sure other people devastate their needs and wants. Also, without a leader, these people would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Heavy Metal Concentrations On Soil Samples Heavy metal concentrations in the soil samples taken from each of the six sampling sites are shown in Table 1. A clear gradient of element concentrations in the soils was observed among the study sites, especially for Cd. Metal concentration varied significantly among sample sites; Cd (H = 16.596, p = 0.005) had the highest significant differences among the sites, whereas Zn (H = 15.409, p = 0.009) had the lowest significant differences. Concentrations of Cd, Pb, Cu, and Zn in the soils from S1, S2, and S3 (distances of 1 2 km from the industrial area) were 4 35 times, 7 27 times, 2 6 times, and 3 6 times higher than those from S4, S5, and S6 (distances of 4 10 km from the industrial area), respectively (U test, p ≤ 0.05). Cadmium concentration ranged from a low of 1.9 mg/kg (S6) to a high of 67.5 mg/kg (S1), Pb concentration ranged from a low of 6.0 mg/kg (S6) to a high of 160.2 mg/kg (S1), Cu concentration ranged from a low of 51.3 mg/kg (S4) to a high of 292.0 mg/kg (S1), and Zn concentration ranged from a low of 98.2 mg/kg (S6) to a high of 605.0 mg/kg (S2). Pollution zones with high metal concentrations in soil and biota are often found near industrial areas (Dudka et al. 1996). It should be noted that the predominant wind direction in our study area is northerly, resulting in comparatively high levels of soil contamination in areas south of the industrial complex. Concentrations of Cd, Cu, and Zn in the highly polluted sites exceeded the threshold values (3 mg/kg for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Free College Should Be Free Should college be free? In The Problem is That Free College Isn t Free, Andrew P. Kelly argues that free college would cost more for the American taxpayer. On the other hand, in Tennessee Is Showing How Free Tuition Community College Works, Celeste Carruthers states having free college will give more incentive for students to go to college. It will also encourage them to try community college first. Although free college sounds great at first, it would be more practical to have programs for people who cannot simply afford it. College tuition shouldn t be the American taxpayers responsibility. To Carruthers, college should be free: the price of college is a critical piece of information for students who are unsure about going, and yet, it is a mystery until after admission and financial aid decisions are in, often late in their senior year (if they applied at all). Many students and their families cannot simply afford college, making the idea of going unrealistic. Carruthers believes that programs like Tennessee Promise will give students who didn t have the opportunity before a chance to go to college. She states, Tennessee Promise eliminates that uncertainty with a blunt and simple message: Free tuition for high school graduates of any income and any amplitude. Free college programs will change the way we think about the academic system. More and more students will be allowed to continue their academic careers without having to worry about costs. • 44. The Age of Absolutism in France Absolutism in France (Order #A2068670) European monarchs did not simply emerge on the scene as absolute rulers but slowly acquired supreme power over a long period of time. This interest in becoming absolute rulers infected the European monarchs, becoming particularly acute during the religious wars of the 16th century. As a result of the chaos and destruction, the kings of Europe began to consolidate power into a centralized system with the monarch at the top. By the beginning of the 17th century a number of European countries had monarchs who exercised absolute power over their kingdoms. One of the largest and most populated countries in Western Europe during this time was France, which slowly centralized governmental power in the hands of a single monarch. France has often been considered to be one of the best examples of how a monarchy assumed centralized and absolute power; ushering in the Age of Absolutism. Louis XIV of France is often referred to as the Sun King and is a prime example of a European monarch who exercised absolute power. However, absolutism in France did not begin with Louis XIV, but with his grandfather and founder of the Bourbon Dynasty, Henry IV. It was Henry IV who began the centralization of power by keeping France at peace during most of his reign by tolerating Protestants. During this time he also strengthened the monarchy s finances by charging royal officials a fee to inherit their positions. He also lowered taxes in an effort to rebuild ... It can be caused by difficulties in either falling asleep or staying asleep. Self reported sleeping problems, hating the sleep quality and day time tiredness are the only defining characteristics of insomnia because it is such an individual experience. The concept of good sleep is different from person to person. While the average night s sleep for an adult is around seven or eight hours, some people only need four, while others like up to 10 hours or more. What seems like insomnia to one person might be considered a good sleep by another (Florence Cardinal, Your Guide to Sleep Disorders.) There are three types ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the National Center on Sleep Disorders Research, Chronic insomnia is more complex and often results from a combination of factors, including underlying physical or mental disorders. One of the most common causes of chronic insomnia is depression. Other causes include arthritis, kidney disease, heart failure, asthma, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome, Parkinson s disease, and hyperthyroidism. However, chronic insomnia may also be due to behavioral factors, including the misuse of caffeine, alcohol, or other substances; disrupted sleep and wake cycles may occur with shift work or other nighttime activity schedules and chronic stress (National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke National Institutes of Health.) Risk factor studies estimate that between a quarter and one third of American and European adults experience some insomnia each year, with between 10% and 20% of them suffering severe sleeplessness. In spite of this widespread problem, however, studies suggest that only about 30% of American adults who visit their doctor ever discuss sleep problems. Conversely, physicians seem rarely to ask patients about their sleep habits or problems. A 2003 University of Maryland Medical Center study suggested that there were seven significant factors that predicted who would be at high risk for insomnia: Being older, having conflicts with relatives, overworked at a job, at home, taking care of a ... It is very unfortunate that the teenagers often don t realize the consequences they are going to face in the future due to their actions today. They also have a tendency to feel indestructible and immune to the problems that others experience. It is obvious that usage of alcohol and tobacco at a young age would definitely spoil their health and would have many health issues. • 48. Economies of Scale Introduction The conditions proposed by the financial crisis and international markets have ended up affecting the practice of economies and shared frames of reference on the nature of the problems. A minor phenomenon in Bangladesh can have substantial impacts in New York or London. The scale and size categories have become central to the analysis of what is happening. Institutional sizes are related to risk externalities [Makridakis / Taleb, 2009]. The work produced [Haug, 2007; May, 2008] offer an explanation of the consequences to take extreme risks in economies (extreme risk). Even considering the risk corresponds to the capital (original) external losses can become outrageous. Background Studies reveal a context in which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The crisis resulting from the excessive size of the banking sector has also contributed to increased externality (negative) with costs experienced by most people. In this regard Taleb / Tapiero [2009] consider that it is inefficient markets with negative externalities to a considerable extent, even though they have ideal conditions of competition (perfect financial markets). In any firm if negative externalities are not offset by positive externalities, or adequately regulated, the risk of losses can become outrageous. In a New York Times (Sunday Business section, October 4, 2009), Gretchen Morgension reference to research by Dean Baker and Travis McArthur, described the effects of selective failures that allowed some privileged banks (large) were subsidized with costs above $ 34 million annually. Size is not the medicine when firms fail. For example, Fujian [2004], using a list of broken Japanese companies in 1997 ([Bouchaud, 2003]) has drawn the failure of some firms regardless of size. When business growth is supported by debt to risk exposed is superior because it threatens both the creditor losses as the lender. Size growth combined with rising debt can lead to colossal failures. It s like traveling with suicide pilots that guide aircraft dynamited. By taking unsustainable growth strategies with negative externalities, people end up paying higher costs. • 49. The Four Pillars Of The Japanese Theater Japanese theater has four main pillars of the classical theater consisting of, Kabuki, Noh, Kyogen, and Bunraku Puppet Theater. They all have deep roots, the longest of them being Noh, dating back to 1363, after the Prince Shotoku converted to Buddhism, and Kan ami and Zeami refined the court arts and created Noh (Mitchell 239). Following Noh came Bunraku, emerging during 1603 1867 (Mitchell 240). Bunraku was very popular until Kabuki came out, in the late 18th century, and overcame the many accusations against the art (Mitchell 242). Kabuki today closely resembles the a close family of actors in the hierarchy, the staging of past plays (Japan Fact Sheet).
