Essay On Eulogy
On Monday, October 30 2017, I went to Pruis Hall and heard Alex Sheen, the founder of the nonprofit
Because I Said I Would. His dad, a pharmacist in Cleveland, was diagnosed with stage four lung
cancer. To combat the disease, he went through chemo radiation which seemed to be working, and he
was able to go out with his family for Chinese food. However, the cancer later spread to his liver,
pancreas and brain, and resulted in death. Alex decided to give a eulogy at the funeral, in which he
decided he would start fulfilling more promises. Here, he first said the phrase Because I said I would,
which later led to his going viral on social media with millions of likes and his starting of a blog.
Through class discussions and presentations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although he and followers of his blog did not have to fulfill these promise cards, it shows the
importance of being a man of your word and keeping your promises. Although not everyone can
afford so much time or money to fulfill a promise, Alex said people should do what you can with what
you have.
Alex said at the conclusion of his speech that everyone is born with the ability to make and keep a
promise. This goes into our yearlong class discussion of Is a leader born or made? Alex, who believes
everyone can make and keep their promises, would believe that leaders are made. Prior to writing his
blog and eventually starting his nonprofit, Alex had no public works experience, public speaking
experience, or leadership experience. As he said, he was just some guy who worked at a software
company making a six figure income with five figure stock options. He did not need the money, and
thought about stopping, as running a nonprofit in addition to working forty hours a week was a big
time commitment and expensive. That was until one day he went into work and saw a letter on his
desk by an unnamed follower of his saying that she appreciated and was inspired by his blog and work
and said that he inspired her to make a promise of her own. For the past few years, she had been
constantly made fun of for her appearance and for being overweight, so she started cutting herself and
was considering suicide.

Imaging In Physical Therapy
Diagnostic imaging is an important tool for the differential diagnosis of many musculoskeletal
conditions. Physical therapists working in direct access roles are assuming greater diagnostic
responsibility. The role of musculoskeletal imaging in physical therapist practice is therefore
becoming increasingly important. Availability of diagnostic studies to physical therapists may vary
greatly depending upon many factors within the practice setting. US Army physical therapists
functioning as direct access providers have long held privileges for ordering imaging studies and
laboratory tests considered essential to their diagnostic role. I strongly support physical therapy
practice act should allow for physical therapists

Truman Capote s Cold Blood
Mrs. Esparza AP English lll Period 5 8 January 2017 The Full Picture Written by Truman Capote, In
Cold Blood is a riveting narrative that documents a historical American crime. Written seven years
following the murder of the Clutter Family, Capote was able to produce such a unique novel that
reflects the countless hours that he had spent obtaining information. The extensive amount of
interviews and reports add a great amount of depth to the storytelling. The abundance of vivid
perspectives captivates the audience and leads them to delve into the inner workings of the character s
actions and thought processes. Resulting in the unveiling of psychological conflicts that raise the
question of morality. Capote believes that it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The brutal diction and sadistic atmosphere that picturize Perry s childhood leads the audience to revisit
their initial impression of him. With a further glimpse into the man s background, Capote can continue
his focus on providing a larger picture. In order to expand on Perry, Capote builds off of his physical
trauma and discusses the emotional trauma that he had to face concerning his parents and siblings. His
parents were separated and his mom became drunk who did not care for him and eventually he had a
falling out with his father and with the multiple deaths of his siblings, Perry Smith revisited these
memories many times. His sister, Fern Joy was a drunk who fell from the window of a hotel room.
Falling she struck a theater marquee, bounced off it, and rolled under the wheels of a taxi (116), his
brother Jimmy who had one day driven his wife to suicide and killed himself the next (69), and his
mother, an alcoholic, had strangled to death on her own vomit (69). According to Capote, such drastic
changes had lead Perry to some serious changes in which human life is not something important and is
simply expendable. As the writer, he does not believe that Perry s involvement in the Clutter murder is
forgivable but rather, compassion and sympathy should be shown toward him due to his unfortunate
circumstances. Additionally, Capote believes that there should be an acknowledgement of

Sexual Orientation Of Sexual Minority Health Essay
Relatively recent inclusion of sexual orientation measures in a few federal and state health
surveillance surveys is enabling the production of population based information about sexual minority
health and its status relative to that of the heterosexual majority.
Few studies have been adequately powered to investigate variability in health by sexual orientation, let
alone by orientation and other key social characteristics (e.g., gender, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic
status); yet research suggests heterogeneity in sexual minority health. Most research on sexual
minorities health in the United States has been led utilizing convenience samples. In spite of the fact
that the discoveries of this exploration have made huge commitments to the research, information
gathered from nonprobability tests have constrained access for general health planning as a result of
concerns with respect to determination predisposition and outer legitimacy. Populace based health
measurements assume a key part in illuminating the prioritization of general health and wellbeing
issues, and open interest in the health advancement movement.
Moderately late consideration of sexual orientation measures in a couple of government and state
wellbeing observation overviews is empowering the generation of populace based data about sexual
minority well being, and its status with respect to that of the heterosexual dominance. In spite of the
fact that the measure of sexual introductory information gathered with

Hugo Chavez Economy
When Hugo Chavez ushered in his era of 21st Century Socialism in 1999, the people of Venezuela
expected an era of prosperity. During the oil boom of the early 2000s, Venezuela s state owned oil
industry funded over half of Chavez s social programs and conditions started to improve. The standard
of living increased, inequality and poverty rates fell, and Chavez generated a cult like following.
Economic and social conditions increased significantly, but so did inflation and poor policy. After
Chavez s death in 2013, Nicolas Maduro, his handpicked replacement, took the reins. After only a

How Has Technology Helped International Trade
Although numerous factors influence international trade, technology has the largest impact on the
effectiveness of trade. Three technological advances that promoted international trade include
steamships, measurement of latitude and longitude, and global timekeeping. Besides global
timekeeping, which began in the 1960s, each of these advancements were from the 19th century or
earlier.
The first steamships came into use in the early 1800s, and have since been known as a major driver of
global trade. Before the invention of steamships, trade voyages between the U.S. and China would
take up to five months overseas, which was just as dangerous as it was time consuming. Steamships
allowed for much faster expeditions, which meant perishable goods would arrive fresher and more
trips could be made annually. Steamships were also able to travel close to land and through rivers,
which meant a greater number of trade routes. Overall, the introduction of steamships allowed for
faster and considerably larger amounts of international trade, which led to the largest increase in ...

The search for a system of measuring latitude and longitude began in ancient history, and took
centuries of study until the eventual invention of the marine chronometer. A chronometer is a

suitable for nautical use was discovered. Throughout history, hundreds of ships were wrecked or lost

determination of longitude by celestial navigation. This major advancement is required to navigate
long voyages overseas where electronics and communication are not an option, allowing for safe and

A List Of Stereotypes Of Women
It s your first day at school and you are standing in the middle of a crowded cafeteria wondering
where to sit and which social group to hang out with. You glance over at the jocks and think to
yourself too popular, too sporty. You quickly turn and notice the band kids, too geeky. Then there s the
cheerleaders, too much gossip, too fake. You are assuming all these things because of the stereotypes
society has thrown upon them. So, you eventually settle for eating your lunch alone, but little did you
know, you could have been friends with any of those social groups. You don t know what any of their
personalities are like, and you have just believed and judged them by their stereotypes, like many
other people. excellent intro. The list of stereotypes is endless. A stereotype is a fixed overgeneralized
belief about a particular group or class of people, also known as assumptions. In other words, when
we stereotype, we are imagining that a person has a large variation of abilities and attributes that all
the members of their stereotype group also have. But they are all just expectations, that people have.
For example, women have many stereotypes attached to them, all beginning when they are born. From

large majority of stereotypes are negative, and people start to believe in them when society starts to.

women they see to do the same. This starts the stereotype chain, that keeps going on and on. Society

Similarities Between Lincoln And Julius Caesar
Betrayal in the political world prevails and has considerably changed the course of world history. Both
Julius Caesar and Abraham Lincoln, two of the most prominent leaders, experienced such betrayal.
Despite this, the lives of these two men share more remarkable similarities. Through an analysis of
their historical context, their unique similarities and differences will be portrayed.
. Born to an aristocratic family around 100 B.C, Gaius Julius Caesar made many contributions to
Roman history. Caesar possessed a charming personality and an intelligent mind. As a well educated
man, he served as a skilled and successful politician, lawyer, and military general, conquering much
land for the Roman Empire. This connection with politics and the military gained him support and
popularity among the plebeians. In 59 BC., Caesar was elected consul with the help of Crassus, a
wealthy patrician, and another general, Pompey. Later, these three men formed an alliance called the

Plutarch, Caesar made preparations to provide merchantmen a safe as well as an easy passage to

Perhaps, the most providential effect he gave to the Roman people was tax alleviations and
realignment of the Roman calendar. These celebrated works won favor from the Roman plebeians,
however, filled the nobles of Rome with hate. Either envious of his fame or fear from his zealous
power, a group of conspirators ended his autocratic ways as the dictator. The main conspirators, Gaius
Cassius Longinus and Marcus Junius Brutus, assassinated Caesar in 44 BC with an artful

An Open Letter to Roderick Nash on Island Civilization Essay
A man named Robert Laughlin once said, The Earth is very old and has suffered grievously: volcanic
explosions, floods, meteor impacts, mountain formation and yet all manner of other abuses greater
than anything people could inflict. Yet, the Earth is still here. It s a survivor. Laughlin clearly believes
in this quote that the Earth can take care of itself. The Earth has been through worse disasters than just
pollution, and extinction of species and plants. Roderick Nash, an environmentalist and activist, says
otherwise. In Nash published an essay, Island Civilization: A Vision For Human Occupancy of Earth
in the Fourth Millennium, that clearly shows his negative view in humanity. He discusses the history
between humans and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Environmentalists worry so much about the well being of the planet for merely the human species

that the forces behind these natural disasters play a critical role in Earth s capacity to support life. If
people are so concerned about the planet, then people should realize that these natural disasters
actually help the Earth regenerate itself. Without these natural disasters , the planet would not be how
it is today. As Nash continues to criticize humans, he states, ...capitalist driven culture in its cancer like
tendency to self destruct. Pollution and destruction of wildlife is a problem, but it is something that
can be fixed, or having Earth fix itself. Nash is saying that humans are destroying the planet entirely,
which is kind of ridiculous. If people were really destroying the Earth as much as Nash says, Earth
itself would have already gotten rid of people through things like natural disasters, disease, or natural
selection. The Earth will take care of itself and as Tom Haering says, Nature plays no favorites:
Survival of the fittest. Nash begins talking about wilderness, As a starting point let s consider

Essay on A P by John Updike
A P
John Updike, one of the most forward thinking and socially provocative writers of the 50s and 60s, is

publications like The New Yorker both are notoriously ahead of their time and harbor controversial
ideas. In his short story A P , Updike reveals a young man named Sammy in a society on the brink of a

The girls, despite their obvious fashion faux pas, carry themselves with a certain confidence and
individuality that is rare in this society. Updike has Sammy refer to the other customers as sheep, pigs,
house slaves, and even as having a fuselage revealing how empty these citizens are. The references to
sheep are clear symbols for the conformity of the late 1950s and early 1960s. The trend (or revolution)
towards non conformity is quickly approaching as the three girls are leaders of this new movement.
Their wealth allows them to most likely live within a large city where the world moves much faster
than in the rural regions and even in the suburbs. Whereas cities are always advancing in all aspects,
the small communities, much like the one Sammy lives in, tend to hold onto tradition and more
conservative values. The normal behavior for beach goers in this small town is, as Updike so blatantly
puts it, the women generally put on a shirt or shorts or something before they get out of the car into
the street. (Lawn 401) The three girls are part of a new generation, one that is changing styles of
fashion and lifestyle faster than ever before.
Sammy at first is an innocent onlooker to this fiasco. Sammy devotes much more descriptive quality
to the girls than to anyone or anything else surrounding him. In describing Queenie s bathing suit he
says, the straps were down.

Causes And Consequences Of Globalization
Globalization has become one of the most significant phenomena in current society. Globalization was
defined by different sentences and theories in books, magazines and journals. However, it is difficult
to define its intrinsic meaning in the real world. Different countries were affected dramatically by the
process of globalization in diverse aspects such as economic aspect and cultural aspect. In addition,
developed countries and developing countries may have diverse attitudes towards globalization based
on their profits and costs. This essay will point out main reasons and consequences of globalization,
and will state different opinions about globalization. At the end, statements and personal views of the
sustainability of globalization will be demonstrated as well. Dicken (2015) clarified that connectivity
was the core characteristic of globalization and information and goods interconnection between
countries also induced the process of globalization. It was confirmed that technology development
was one of the primary foundations of globalization. As Langhorne (2001) considered, the
development of technology had three stages since the world s Industrial Revolution. The first stage
started after the invention of steam engine, and then steam machines were widely used in
transportation industries, which made the communication between nations become quicker and safer.
In the second stage, the development of military force including rocket and satellite equipment played

The Downfall And Vice As A Tale Of A Tub And The Battle Of...
The prominence of Jonathon Swift and his work is undeniable in the Eighteenth Century. Swift s
emergence into the literary world was spurned on by writing about politics and religion with his strong
opinions and wit. Other famous works by Swift include A Tale of a Tub and The Battle of the Books
based on the corruptions in religion and learning at the time. Swift s works in literature were often
written to further a cause or reaction. The idea of the antagonising satirist is reiterated in a
conversation between Pope and Swift, with Swift stating The chief end I propose in all my labours is
to vex the world rather than divert it . Swift aims to educate readers on what is actually going on at the
forefront of culture at the time through his works, with the embodiment of human downfall and vice
being satirised through the characters of Gulliver s Travels. Swift began working on book by 1721,
with the parts being written in sequence to begin with. Parts I and II were finished by late 1723 with
Part IV being completed by January 1724. This lead to Part III being finished and the entire works
being under revision in early 1725. Swift sent the manuscript to Benjamin Motte, a bookseller at that
time. Before publishing Gulliver s Travels Motte edited the text fearing the crown and court
prosecution. The first edition was published on the 28th October 1726, with the first print selling out
within a week. The novel was published two more times before 1727, before being translated

Smuckers Company Valuation
Smucker s Valuation Project March 9, 2012 Executive Summary The purpose of this document is to
provide a valuation proposal for J.M. Smucker s Company. Team B utilized a Sales Projection
approach to determine the free cash flows for Smucker s. We then used those values to derive the
value of Smucker s. For the time period of the analysis, Smucker s stock was trading at $29.88 per
share leading to an overall firm value of ~$882 M. Team B believes Smucker s was undervalued by
$57M and believe that the stock is worth $31.27 per share leading to an overall value of ~$939 M. A
summary of our results is shown below: Given that the market believes Smucker s is undervalued
based on our conservative model, Team B would recommend ... Show more content on

The suggestions we are showing make the model more aggressive in how it determines the value of a
firm, but we believe that would provide a more accurate representation of the firm s value. The current
valuation model is overly conservative, which is good news when it comes to making a buying
decision. Where is Smucker s Today? Our team wanted to determine if our acquisition decision would
have been a wise one. In order to do that, we first did some research to determine where Smucker s
ranks in relation to their competition today. We then looked at the actual 2011 financial results and
calculated them in1992 terms to see the results of our investment. The following table shows where
Smucker s ranks in comparison to others in the market: From the table above, we can see Smucker s
has a solid market position. While they are not at the top of any single category, they are squarely
positioned in the market. We also wanted to compare our valuation amount to the 2011 actual value of
Smucker s in order to determine the return we would have achieved on our investment. If we were to
take the 1992 market value of (29,500 * $29.88) and grow it from 1992 to the 2011 amount of $5.36B,
we would have achieved a 9.5% return on our investment. If we were to acquire Smucker s at our
valuation amount of $939,140, we would have achieved an 8.885% return on our investment to reach
the 2011 equity value of $5.36B Overall, we believe an 8.5% to

The Nsa Should Create A Privilege Management Program
The IT department should create a privilege management program in active directory that ensures
personnel only have access to material to resources and information they require. These access
controls should also be deployed when there s a suspicion or termination of an employee. In the case
of the two interns, the network administrator should create login hours and system specific login s tp
prevent any leak in information during the after hours. The recent issues at the National Security
Agency (NSA) displayed what can happen with an unaudited IT department, and according to the
Register:
The NSA policy prevents a typical worker from doing things like copying files to USB thumb drives
or other external storage. But Snowden had an easy way around those restrictions, simply by virtue of
being classified as systems administrator. With that privilege, Snowden would have been able to move
files around at will, sources claim (Tim Worstall, 2013). This catastrphe could have been prevented, if
the NSA had a robust access control in place to detour Snowden from causing significant damage.
Some network security concerns that should be addressed is the physical component while damage
can be inflicted on the network from remote terminal, an attacker with physical access is a much
greater concern. The Global Accounting network system should be placed in a secure room where
only essential personnel have access. Network devices such as the modem and router should be

Organic And Non Organic Foods
When you or your parents visit the grocery store, which food products do you consider purchasing? It
is difficult not to notice the current trend of organic foods on the shelves at the supermarket. 1 The
word organic refers to the way farmers grow and process agricultural products (Mayo Clinic Staff, par.
3). Whether or not to purchase organic foods has been a subject of debate in recent years. Since in
today s society people are always in search for the healthiest foods available to nurture their bodies.
Although few people can tell the difference between organic and non organic foods, there are various
benefits and differences in terms of the nutritional value, physical appearance, cost, and farming
practices.
When deciding whether or not to buy organic items, one factor to consider is their nutritional value.
The general belief is that organic foods are healthier for you than non organic foods. 2 According to
the Professor Carlo Leifert at Newcastle University, Organic food has more of the antioxidant
compounds linked to better health than regular food, and lower levels of toxic metals and pesticides
(Carrington and Arnett, par. 3). 3 Organic produce typically carries fewer pesticide residues than non
organic produce (Mayo Clinic Staff, par. 15). Non organic crops also have higher levels of cadmium
and a toxic metals (Carrington and Arnett, par. 4). The animals used in the production of organic foods
continuously graze on grass, which increases the amounts of conjugated

Interpreting Nature
Edgar Allen Poe s creation of the detective Le Chevalier C. Auguste Dupin paved the way for
detective stories. ..........................................
One of the main characteristics of successful analysis, as said by Holmes, is the ability to reason
backwards ( A Study in Scarlet ). These views reflect the thoughts of the 17th century philosopher of
science, Sir Francis Bacon. Sherlock also uses the phrase ones ideas must be as broad as nature if they
are to interpret nature. This idea of interpreting nature is also similar to Bacon s views as Bacon writes
about interpreting nature in one of his philosophical works called The Novum Organum Scientiarium
(which translates as The New Instrument of Science).

Edmond Locard was an avid reader of the Sherlock Holmes stories and was influenced very heavily
by them, so much so that he built his own forensics laboratory. He proceeded to create Locard s
Exchange Principle which explains that if two things rub upon each other for example (or come into
contact with each other) they will always leave a trace of themselves on each other, every contact
leaves a trace. Locard was very influential in the field of forensic science as he developed the science
of poroscopy which is the study of the pores in fingerprints, and also said that if 12 points of two
fingerprints matched that they were the same, i.e. a positive identification. In A Study In Scarlet,
Holmes talks about the identification of ashes and afterward Locard wrote a paper on the identification
of tobacco by a study on ashes. Locard also published a paper titled The Analysis of Dust Traces in
which he directly address the Holmes novels, saying a police expert... would not find it a waste of
time to read Doyle s novels. Interestingly, Locard was dubbed the Sherlock of France (The Forensics

Glory And Centerfield Sound Devices
There are many different types of poems. All poems have a meaning to them, and those meanings are
all unique to each and every poem. Much like poems, songs have very many types and genres and
different meanings. Glory , a poem by Yusef Komunyakaa, and Centerfield , a song by John Fogerty,
are very similar to each other. Both poems and songs use poetic language such as figurative language
and sound devices. These help the poem or song flow better, sound more interesting, and keep the
readers or listeners attention. Glory is a poem about young men who use baseball as an escape from
their long, hard work days. When the men got done with work, they would go to an old baseball field
and have fun and connect playing baseball. Although the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These similarities are not only the topic, but also the uses of sound devices, figurative language, and
imagery. Both the poem and the song are centered around baseball. They both mention former
baseball legends, but Glory uses them to describe the ethnicity, while Centerfield uses the names to
add some context to the song. Both use sound devices such as consonance. In Glory an example of a
consonance is Working knockout shifts daybreak (2) and in Centerfield Don t say it ain t so, you know
the time is now (15). While Glory focuses more on the players and fans, Centerfield focuses more on
the game itself. In Glory it centers in on the players and their agile nature and the way they play the
game. It depicts the fans cheering them on and the umpires dancing about calling strikes on batters.
Centerfield is more about the writer playing the game and competing to play the position, centerfield.
Another difference between the two is the context in which the game is being played. The young men
in Glory had just gotten done with a long, hard day of work and use the game as an escape from all of
that work. It helps them stay motivated for the week and live life in a better state of mind. Centerfield
is not as much as an escape for the writer, but more as a game that he has known and loved. He is
trying to convince his coach to put him in centerfield, and he feels that he has proven himself to be

Essay about Service Marketing
Introduction
In an ideal situation, customers would not have to wait for the delivery of products and services.
However, in the real world, organizations cannot always match exact capability and demand;
therefore, waiting is frequently inevitable while purchasing, especially in service marketing, as service
firms can barely inventory their stock for sale at a later date (Lovelock, 1992, p.154). In general,
waiting in lines known as queuing , happens when the number of customers arrive at a facility exceeds
the capability of the system to serve them (Lovelock Wirtz, 2011, p.260). Basically, this essay will
state the relationship between queuing and customer satisfaction, as well as relationship between
customer satisfaction and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the consumer is waiting alone and have nothing to do, especially in an unfamiliar facility, the
feeling of boring, uncertain about waiting time, stress and anxiety will be increasingly enlarged with
time passing. Queuing also seems more burdensome if people feel physically uncomfortable.
Moreover, because of a fear of been forgotten , the senses of get started of customers are fervent. It is
claimed that the anxiety level is much higher while waiting to be served than it is while being served,
even though the latter queuing will be longer (Lovelock Wirtz, 2011, p.267; Maister, 1985).
Unpleasant waiting experience might accompany with customers go through the whole service
process, which could lower the overall evaluation of service quality easily. Not only the queuing
experience, a number of studies also investigated that queuing time in a service organization
significantly influences consumer satisfaction. In general, increasing in waiting time is associated with
decreasing in customer satisfaction (Katz, M.Larson C.Larson, 1991). The graph (Dube, Renaghan
Miller, 1994) below shows the effect of waiting time on customer satisfaction in restaurant industry,
and suggests that most consumers do not satisfied if the waiting time is longer than 8 minutes. In
addition, another study (Jones Dent, 1994) examined that 70% of respondents considered waiting time

Graffiti Vandalistic Art
Walking down the streets of New York City, on the left the entire wall is covered in art, with a wide
spectrum of graffiti, ranging from the word New York to drawings of the Statue of Liberty and many
more pieces such as gang related phrases and drawings, the feeling of amazement is present. Graffiti,
being a freelance way of expressing good and bad emotions through art, is often frowned upon due to
vandalistic nature of most graffiti. Graffiti has been around since the late 1900 s and it is said that The
first modern graffiti writer is widely considered to be Cornbread... who in Philadelphia, started
tagging city walls to get the attention of a girl (De Melker). Graffiti has become more commonly
found in big towns and cities. In today s, time graffiti is beginning to be more than just gangs marking
territory and evolving into its own art form. From subway cars to the sides of walls and sometimes in
art galleries, graffiti can be found anywhere. Graffiti can be beautiful yet is very controversial form of
art and is used for many different reasons.
According to Eldridge, graffiti is an ancient form of human communication and can be found in ruins
dated to early civilizations. Graffiti has transformed from people just tagging things to a way of art.
Graffiti writing eventually became bigger and more stylized, developing from tags to pieces, short
masterpieces. Piecing demands decorative expression, artistic skill, and understanding of aerosol paint
control (Eldridge). Over the years, the way graffiti has been viewed has also changed. Although most
still see it as vandalism, those who actually like draw and are interested in art see graffiti as its own
form of art developing just like other forms of art, like music. Although graffiti is viewed as vandalism
to most there are some cases where graffiti is used as a way of self expression. In the T.V. series
Switched at Birth, Bay
Kennish puts her art on walls, billboards, and on her car as a way of wanting her art to be known to
others. She uses graffiti and drawing as a form of self expression. Other artist around the world use
graffiti to express themselves. For example, a street artist

Yamashita s Tropic of Orange Essay
Yamashita s Tropic of Orange
This paper studies Yamashita s Tropic of Orange as a magical realist text and examines the
implications for such a style on the notion of the urban. Specifically, I will explore how Yamashita
uses magical realism to collapse boundaries and socially transform Los Angeles into an embattled
utopia for the disenfranchised. First, however, magical realism is a loaded term and some definitions
are in order. In addition to important recent innovations in the form and its purposes, magical realism
is in dialogue with a longer history of writing, including the epic, chivalric traditions, Greek pastoral,
medieval dream visions, romantic traditions and Gothic fictions, all of which contribute a fantastic
strain to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Magical realism also functions ideologically but...less hegemonically, for its program is not
centralizing but eccentric: it creates space for interactions of diversity. In magical realist texts,
ontological disruption serves the purpose of political and cultural disruption: magic is often given as a
cultural corrective, requiring readers to scrutinize accepted realistic conventions of causality,
materiality, motivation. (3)
This definition highlights the two dominant markers of the form: the use of fantasy and the counter
hegemonic disruption of cultural and social realities. Fantasy can imagine justice into the reality of an
unjust world, which is why it has been so useful in postcolonial contexts and has interesting
possibilities for metropolitan life. Yamashita s novel fits squarely in this tradition, and I suggest she
leverages the form to imaginatively transform Los Angeles from a plethora of racially, socially and
economically distinct and, at times, antagonistic neighborhoods connected yet separated by freeways
and bound within the borders of the U.S., to an embattled yet impossibly and transnationally
interconnected utopian urbanity located literally on the freeway. Conventions of causality and
materiality are regularly violated as the city physically and socially changes shape, congregating and
collapsing distinct worlds, nations and cultures into one metropolis. Under the spell of magical
realism, Yamashita s Los Angeles becomes a

No Secret That The Organ Transplantation
Every year many people of all ages, have to be put on a donor list to get a replacement of a diagnosed
organ that must be replaced to live. It is no secret that the organ transplantation list has a significant
amount of people and every day a handful of them die. A average of twenty one people die everyday,
according to the American Transplant Foundation. Many scientist and medically certified personals
have been trying to come up with alternative genetic modified organs to give to needed patients,
instead of waiting for a donor to come up. A alternate solution they have experimented with is
xenotransplantation, the procedure that takes animal cells, organs, tissues, etc..., and replaces with
what the donor needs, instead of having a human donor. The procedure has been experimented on for
many years since the first transplantation between humans was successful. Nevertheless,
xenotransplantation should not be considered because of the physiological beliefs, disease
transmission, and of animal cruelty. We should not consider xenotransplantation because of the
physiological beliefs. Since birth, we were taught our wrongs and rights and we were taught about
socially acceptable activities. Animals were always a symbol of happiness and hope, and many of us
treat them as human beings. Hurting animals was always one of the wrong things to do. Not only do
many people go against harming animals but a percentage of the world become vegetarian for the
reason that they care about them

  • 2. Essay On Eulogy On Monday, October 30 2017, I went to Pruis Hall and heard Alex Sheen, the founder of the nonprofit Because I Said I Would. His dad, a pharmacist in Cleveland, was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. To combat the disease, he went through chemo radiation which seemed to be working, and he was able to go out with his family for Chinese food. However, the cancer later spread to his liver, pancreas and brain, and resulted in death. Alex decided to give a eulogy at the funeral, in which he decided he would start fulfilling more promises. Here, he first said the phrase Because I said I would, which later led to his going viral on social media with millions of likes and his starting of a blog. Through class discussions and presentations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although he and followers of his blog did not have to fulfill these promise cards, it shows the importance of being a man of your word and keeping your promises. Although not everyone can afford so much time or money to fulfill a promise, Alex said people should do what you can with what you have. Alex said at the conclusion of his speech that everyone is born with the ability to make and keep a promise. This goes into our yearlong class discussion of Is a leader born or made? Alex, who believes everyone can make and keep their promises, would believe that leaders are made. Prior to writing his blog and eventually starting his nonprofit, Alex had no public works experience, public speaking experience, or leadership experience. As he said, he was just some guy who worked at a software company making a six figure income with five figure stock options. He did not need the money, and thought about stopping, as running a nonprofit in addition to working forty hours a week was a big time commitment and expensive. That was until one day he went into work and saw a letter on his desk by an unnamed follower of his saying that she appreciated and was inspired by his blog and work and said that he inspired her to make a promise of her own. For the past few years, she had been constantly made fun of for her appearance and for being overweight, so she started cutting herself and was considering suicide. ... Physical therapists working in direct access roles are assuming greater diagnostic responsibility. The role of musculoskeletal imaging in physical therapist practice is therefore becoming increasingly important. Truman Capote s Cold Blood Mrs. Esparza AP English lll Period 5 8 January 2017 The Full Picture Written by Truman Capote, In Cold Blood is a riveting narrative that documents a historical American crime. Written seven years following the murder of the Clutter Family, Capote was able to produce such a unique novel that reflects the countless hours that he had spent obtaining information. The extensive amount of interviews and reports add a great amount of depth to the storytelling. The abundance of vivid perspectives captivates the audience and leads them to delve into the inner workings of the character s actions and thought processes. The brutal diction and sadistic atmosphere that picturize Perry s childhood leads the audience to revisit their initial impression of him. With a further glimpse into the man s background, Capote can continue his focus on providing a larger picture. In order to expand on Perry, Capote builds off of his physical trauma and discusses the emotional trauma that he had to face concerning his parents and siblings. His parents were separated and his mom became drunk who did not care for him and eventually he had a falling out with his father and with the multiple deaths of his siblings, Perry Smith revisited these memories many times. His sister, Fern Joy was a drunk who fell from the window of a hotel room. Falling she struck a theater marquee, bounced off it, and rolled under the wheels of a taxi (116), his brother Jimmy who had one day driven his wife to suicide and killed himself the next (69), and his mother, an alcoholic, had strangled to death on her own vomit (69). According to Capote, such drastic changes had lead Perry to some serious changes in which human life is not something important and is simply expendable. As the writer, he does not believe that Perry s involvement in the Clutter murder is forgivable but rather, compassion and sympathy should be shown toward him due to his unfortunate circumstances. Additionally, Capote believes that there should be an acknowledgement of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Sexual Orientation Of Sexual Minority Health Essay Relatively recent inclusion of sexual orientation measures in a few federal and state health surveillance surveys is enabling the production of population based information about sexual minority health and its status relative to that of the heterosexual majority. Few studies have been adequately powered to investigate variability in health by sexual orientation, let alone by orientation and other key social characteristics (e.g., gender, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status); yet research suggests heterogeneity in sexual minority health. Most research on sexual minorities health in the United States has been led utilizing convenience samples. In spite of the fact that the discoveries of this exploration have made huge commitments to the research, information gathered from nonprobability tests have constrained access for general health planning as a result of concerns with respect to determination predisposition and outer legitimacy. Populace based health measurements assume a key part in illuminating the prioritization of general health and wellbeing issues, and open interest in the health advancement movement. Three technological advances that promoted international trade include steamships, measurement of latitude and longitude, and global timekeeping. Besides global timekeeping, which began in the 1960s, each of these advancements were from the 19th century or earlier. The first steamships came into use in the early 1800s, and have since been known as a major driver of global trade. Before the invention of steamships, trade voyages between the U.S. and China would take up to five months overseas, which was just as dangerous as it was time consuming. Steamships allowed for much faster expeditions, which meant perishable goods would arrive fresher and more trips could be made annually. You glance over at the jocks and think to yourself too popular, too sporty. You quickly turn and notice the band kids, too geeky. Then there s the cheerleaders, too much gossip, too fake. You are assuming all these things because of the stereotypes society has thrown upon them. So, you eventually settle for eating your lunch alone, but little did you know, you could have been friends with any of those social groups. You don t know what any of their personalities are like, and you have just believed and judged them by their stereotypes, like many other people. excellent intro. The list of stereotypes is endless. A stereotype is a fixed overgeneralized belief about a particular group or class of people, also known as assumptions. Both Julius Caesar and Abraham Lincoln, two of the most prominent leaders, experienced such betrayal. Despite this, the lives of these two men share more remarkable similarities. Through an analysis of their historical context, their unique similarities and differences will be portrayed. . Born to an aristocratic family around 100 B.C, Gaius Julius Caesar made many contributions to Roman history. Caesar possessed a charming personality and an intelligent mind. As a well educated man, he served as a skilled and successful politician, lawyer, and military general, conquering much land for the Roman Empire. This connection with politics and the military gained him support and popularity among the plebeians. An Open Letter to Roderick Nash on Island Civilization Essay A man named Robert Laughlin once said, The Earth is very old and has suffered grievously: volcanic explosions, floods, meteor impacts, mountain formation and yet all manner of other abuses greater than anything people could inflict. Yet, the Earth is still here. It s a survivor. Laughlin clearly believes in this quote that the Earth can take care of itself. The Earth has been through worse disasters than just pollution, and extinction of species and plants. Roderick Nash, an environmentalist and activist, says otherwise. In Nash published an essay, Island Civilization: A Vision For Human Occupancy of Earth in the Fourth Millennium, that clearly shows his negative view in humanity. The girls, despite their obvious fashion faux pas, carry themselves with a certain confidence and individuality that is rare in this society. Updike has Sammy refer to the other customers as sheep, pigs, house slaves, and even as having a fuselage revealing how empty these citizens are. The references to sheep are clear symbols for the conformity of the late 1950s and early 1960s. The trend (or revolution) towards non conformity is quickly approaching as the three girls are leaders of this new movement. Their wealth allows them to most likely live within a large city where the world moves much faster than in the rural regions and even in the suburbs. Whereas cities are always advancing in all aspects, the small communities, much like the one Sammy lives in, tend to hold onto tradition and more conservative values. The normal behavior for beach goers in this small town is, as Updike so blatantly puts it, the women generally put on a shirt or shorts or something before they get out of the car into the street. (Lawn 401) The three girls are part of a new generation, one that is changing styles of fashion and lifestyle faster than ever before. Sammy at first is an innocent onlooker to this fiasco. The Council has ultimately made their people think of each other as a collectivism rather than thinking of themselves as individuals, this is another rule and the deadliest rule since if this rule is broken the penalty is death. As Prometheus explain, and this is the Unspeakable word, which no men may speak nor hear... There is no crime punished by death in this world, save this one crime of speaking the unspeakable word. Swift s emergence into the literary world was spurned on by writing about politics and religion with his strong opinions and wit. Other famous works by Swift include A Tale of a Tub and The Battle of the Books based on the corruptions in religion and learning at the time. Swift s works in literature were often written to further a cause or reaction. The idea of the antagonising satirist is reiterated in a conversation between Pope and Swift, with Swift stating The chief end I propose in all my labours is to vex the world rather than divert it . First, however, magical realism is a loaded term and some definitions are in order. (3) This definition highlights the two dominant markers of the form: the use of fantasy and the counter hegemonic disruption of cultural and social realities. Fantasy can imagine justice into the reality of an unjust world, which is why it has been so useful in postcolonial contexts and has interesting possibilities for metropolitan life.
