The First Challenge For Australian Foreign Policy
The first challenge for Australian foreign policy is to maximize the economic and security
opportunities by maintaining their relationship with Indonesia and ASEAN. In the case with
Indonesia, Indonesia is one of Australia s closest friends as the two countries share strong security and
economic system. In terms of politics, Indonesia is essential to Australia because Indonesia plays a
key role in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations so a steady relationship with Indonesia is
required for a cohesive and productive relationship with ASEAN. Moreover, Indonesia is the most
important country in Southeast Asia with one of the most powerful military forces in the region.
Therefore, Indonesia already controls and wants to improve its effect over ASEAN. According to
researches, Indonesian motives for improving its role as regional peacekeeper have been revealed in
recent perspectives by the general of the Indonesia s military, who stated, Indonesian motives of
playing a big brother role with the respect to security in ASEAN and in the region (Tiernan, 2007).
Meanwhile, Australia has recognized the significance of ASEAN in assuring Australia s foreign
regional and domestic security. There are certain institutions such as the East Asia Summit and
ASEAN Regional Forum (Harvey, 2015). In recent years, Australia has worked robustly with the EAS
to ensure its security and interests are protected. In return, the EAS has not only supported in regional
security but it also has

Arctic Challenges
Harry Davis

APES Period 1
An Analysis of the Challenges Facing the Arctic Ocean
The Arctic is a covers a vast expanse of the Earth. It is touched by 8 different countries, including
Russia and the United States. It is an area of extreme economic and scientific interest, being one of the
last frontiers not yet completely explored or conquered on planet Earth. Can the Arctic be both an
economic powerhouse and an ecological preserve? The answer to this question is yes, it is possible,
but it would be extremely difficult. If the arctic becomes an economic powerhouse, it will be difficult
for it to remain an ecological reserve, and if it become an ecological preserve it can not become as
much of an economic powerhouse. The arctic becoming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the arctic becomes an area that is open for business for anyone to mine, drill or fish in it is likely
that the habitats of many different species of wildlife will be damaged. Oil spills can severely hurt
many species of bird and fish which live in the Arctic, as well as the animals which prey on them, and
as there is currently no surefire way to fix or contain an underwater oil spill if it happens, along with
the limited infrastructure currently in the Arctic, the results of one could be disastrous for the Arctic s
ecosystem. Over half of all of the United State s fish supply comes from the Arctic Many areas of the
Arctic already are being hurt by illegal fishing and unprofitable overfishing, which could be curbed if
major countries would stop providing subsidies to unprofitable fishing

Essay on High School Graduation
High School Graduation Graduation is an exciting time in a person s life, especially a high school
graduation. For most people their graduation day is one of their best day of their lives. No more high
school, and for some it means that they are able to move on with their life and live on their own as
well as embark on the independent journey of college. In my case, when I think of family and friends
gathering to celebrate a joyous occasion. I feel like I accomplished my strongest goal. It never
occurred to me that graduation would be the end of my youth and the start of my adulthood.
Graduating from high school was an influential event that gave me an altered outlook on my
existence. Although, my graduation day started out not so well, ... Show more content on

My friend and I were still waiting for our names to be called out, but as were sitting down my friend
had asked me, Can you believe were graduating already? I replied back, No it s hard to believe how
were going to graduate high school in less than two days. Than finally my principal called out my
name and handed me cap and gown as I quickly took it and just sat there while I stared at the bright
gold color. It s funny how the simplest things can symbolize a whole new beginning. Second, after I
got my cap and gown my friends and I tried it on and took pictures for the last time, than we went to
class and talked about what we were going to wear to graduation and how we would do our hair and
makeup, and where we would meet up so we could all go together. As our last class ended for the day,
I realized how another day was gone and we were a couple days close to graduation day which made
me more anxious as well as excited at the same time. As I got home I put my cap and gown in my
closet and just stood there and stared at it for a couple minutes as I wondered how fast high school
went by and how I would leave all the memories behind and start a whole new different experience in
college. As I stood there, suddenly someone knocked on the door. As I opened the door my friend was
standing right in front of my porch. I asked her, what are you doing here? she responded, get ready

Italian American Cultural Museum Research Paper
Immigration has been in motion from as far back as the 16th and 17th century. As a country that was
established due to immigration and the pursuit of freedom, it comes to no surprise that many people
from around the world fled to the United States. However, a substantial amount of Italians did not start
immigrating to America until the late 1870 s to 1924. More than 4 million Italians left Southern Italy
and Sicily due to poverty and political hardships. On top of that, the belief of a better life in America
was a large motivation and the dream that they can return to their motherland with more wealth, drove
them to explore outside of their country. In today s modern society, Italian Americans make America s
fifth largest ethnic group. In spite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Italians were part of a new movement of immigrants as the old movement consisted of Germans,
Scots, Irish and other European countries, making up the early history of the United States. The new
movement consists of slaves, Jews, and Italians as they were primarily the current immigrants coming
in and working labor in contrast to other immigrants who has been around a lot longer than they have.
This new sector was looked down and discriminated against, as the old movement had the perception
of being in a higher caliber than the other immigrants who was pouring in. The Italians that generally
settled in the United States are refugees or from low income families. The refugees sought protection
and stability, as Italy was an adequately new country with insufficient government control. This
occurred as Italy has been divided into states for over a century and slowly came together as one, even
though it was still divided by the rich and the poor (Two Sicily). On top of that, Mussolini who was
situated by Adolf Hitler, came to power and plummeted Italy s economy. As the Italians continued to
arrive, many settled within Lincoln Heights and the Eastside; gradually moving their way to the west,
Italian cities expanded and became one of the cities most populated and oldest neighborhoods of the
United States. Additionally, the population in the Eastside, was plagued with

1984 Dystopian Society
The book 1984 was written by George Orwell in 1948, the main theme of this book is social science
fiction. A underlying theme is this book is a dystopian future: the social, economical, and political
problems are issues that are lied about, prove this. When looking at the social aspect of life in 1984 all
social groups are treated very different yet at the same time are all treated the same. In 1984 there is a
very obvious hierarchal system; the top is The Inner Party, than The Outer Part, and on the bottom of
the list are the proles. In Oceania this society strictly follows this, and does not deviate from these set
rules of class. Each social group in 1984 are marginalized, excluded, and silenced, the way that this
happens to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As usual, there was no definite rule against talking to proles and frequenting their pubs, but it was far
too unusual an action to pass unnoticed (87). This just shows how odd it is for Party Members to talk
to proles, but when a Party Member does need to they do it knowing only a little backlash will happen
if they are questioned. The proles live in parts of Oceania that are the slums of the state. As Winston
walks around the proles part of town, he brings up that it doesn t smell good at all. If there was hope, it
must lie in the proles, because only there, in those swarming disregarded masses, eighty five percent
on the population of Oceania (69). Winston says he has hope that these people will rise up, you can
still tell he distest them by the way he talks about them. A few thought agents of the Thought Police
moved always among them, spreading false rumors and marking down and eliminating the few
individuals who were judged capable of becoming dangerous: but no attempt was made to indoctrinate
them with the ideology of the party (71). The party Doesn t want to waste their resources on the proles
so they just marginalize them and pretend like they re not there. The Thought Police and Party don t
care about the proles at all, the Thought Police go around spreading rumor just so that they can see if
any of the proles will react, than the Thought Police take them away and silence them, and most likely
kill them

Marijuana Essay
Marijuana
The third largest agricultural good in the nation and a ten billion dollar industry has nothing to do with
the agriculture we are use to. This good is Marijuana, an illegal drug. It is the most widely used illicit
drug in America n(Gold v). In Florida alone, marijuana sales are greater than all businesses except
tourism (Gold v). What is marijuana? Marijuana, a plant, known as Cannabis Sativa, labeled that by
Carolus Linnaeus in 1753 (Grinspoon 1), is one of nature s hardiest specimens (Abel ix). It can
survive in any climatic condition possible, and flourishes like weeds do. Marijuana acts like a weed,
stealing all the sunlight and nutrients around it. The soil needed for growing marijuana for its
intoxicant, is dry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From smoking marijuana, an euphoric sense is produced. This os the high that draws people to smoke
marijuana. They fall into a languid state, and time slows down for them. The psychoactive compound
that creates this euphoric sense is delta 9 THC. Marijuana s potency varies. In the female plants
flowers is the greater concentration of cannabinoids, related compounds to delta 9 THC (Abel 5).
Sinsemilla, a seedless version of marijuana, that has been cultivated in recent years, has much higher
concentrations of THC throughout the plant (Abel 5). The amount of THC that is present depends on
the conditions the plant is raised in (Gold 261). Cannabis that is grown in temperate climates contains
little delta 9 THC and a high concentration of cannabidiol. Cannabis grown in hot climates has a
greater delta 9 THC concentration and barely any cannabidiol. It is these plants that are grown in the
hotter climates that are cultivated for their psychoactive effects. Marijuana contains almost 30% THC;
however, 50% of that is destroyed when it is burned, such as when it is smoked (Gold261). The
smallest amount of THC that produces a high is 5 mg, but since 50% is destroyed, it is really 2.5 mg
(Gold 262). The effects, of marijuana, can be felt in five to fifteen minutes, and the maximum effects
are felt in sixty minutes.
Marijuana, when smoked, creates a hallucinating effect. Its psychological effects are: excitement and
dissociation of ideas, enhancement of

Argument For Moderate Objectivism
An argument for ethical objectivism would be Pojman and Fieser s moderate objectivism. According
to them, a moral claim is objectively true when it describes an objective moral principle. An objective
moral principle is a rule that, if generally followed, would optimally perform the function of serving
human needs and interests by reducing harmful social conflict and promoting beneficial social
cooperation. (Luco, Week 6 Notes p.1)
This is the reconstruction of Pojman and Fieser s Argument for Moderate Objectivism
1. Common human nature: Human nature is relatively similar in the sense that human beings have a
common set of basic needs and interest
2. Functionality Thesis: Moral principles are instituted to perform the function of meeting ... Show

In addition, careful analysis of simple moral principles can also lead to the conclusion that the
functionality thesis is true. Using the example that we should keep our promises to people as a moral
principle, Pojman and Fieser do mention that if a world were to cease obeying it, contracts and
agreements would no longer hold any value. (Luco, Week 6 Notes, p.11) It is not difficult to imagine
that in many societies where transactions and contracts are made daily, from bank loans to bicycle
rentals, without the moral principle of keeping promises and honouring contracts, the individuals who
enter into an agreement would no longer see the need to honour their contracts. As a result, business
would fail and chaos would ensue in the society. Further empirical evidence can be seen from Steven
Pinker s research from A History of Violence was conducted over different time periods and it also
supports the functionality thesis in the sense that people with stronger reasoning abilities do construct
practices and institutions to meet their interest. (Luco, Week 6 Notes, p.

Captive Orcas Killer Whales
Though often seen as fierce killing machines, Orca whales, more commonly known as killer whales,
are much different. In some ways, these mysterious creatures are much like humans. Many people are
fascinated by these whales when they see them perform in marine parks such as SeaWorld. What most
people don t realize is that the life of these whales is not as great as it may seem. There is much
evidence that proves captive life will never be adequate. There is no doubt that life in captivity is no
match for life in the wild. Orcas exhibit unnatural behaviors and aggressive tendencies in captivity
that do not occur in the wild. In captivity, orcas have been known to show aggressive tendencies
resulting in injury and even death. While there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The longest a captive born Orca has very lived is twenty five years (Rose, 3). The average life
expectancy is six years in captivity. Eighty six percent of 135+ whales in captivity since 1961 are now
dead (KIWE, 3). SeaWorld, one of the most famous marine parks exhibiting Orca whales, has
experienced approximately one Orca death a year since beginning their breeding program. It is
reasonable and logical to expect at least a third of all captive whales to still be alive today considering
the number of males and females, years since the first Orca entered captivity, and life expectancies in
the wild, but only twenty percent is still living. The most parsimonious explanation for this failure to
show improved survivorship, despite the effort by Oceanaria to advance husbandry techniques in the
past forty five years, is that Orcas are inherently unsuited to confinement (Rose, 3). Not only are
Orcas far too intelligent to be held captive, but also captivity does not meet their familial and social
needs. In the wild, Orcas have complex familial and social relationships with those in their pods that
they are not able to sustain in captivity due to being placed in a pool with and artificial family. Orcas
typically spend their entire lives with their families unless taken away (Cronin, 2). In captivity, the
young are separated from their mothers. At SeaWorld, after a four and a half year old Orca was taken
away from

Plato And The Cave
In Plato s article The Republic he describes that we all exist as part of a society in which he refers to
as a cave. Plato says in the opening of this article Let me show in a figure how far our nature is
enlightened and unenlightened . With our heads restrained to a wall and not capable to perceive our
surrounding, we accept as true the shadows to be reality. He then goes on to explain that with a teacher
is the only way that we can move from our state of being a prisoner and moving into a new reality
beyond the cave and that we would discover the true reality to be painful, and then want to return to
the state of deception of the cave. He explains this by saying Plato also believes that we are all have

Finance Major Essay
The definition of finance is rather complex but Merriam Webster seems to provide the most
comprehensive explanation, stating, the management of revenues; the conduct or transaction of money
matters generally, especially those affecting the public, as in the fields of banking and investment
(Merriam Webster). The management of revenues is essentially the core of what separates the jobs of
finance majors, compared to other business related majors such as accounting and economics. While
accountants identify where the money comes from, the finance people identify how to best use that
money. While economic majors study how to grow the entire economy of a country, finance majors
study how to value a company. The reason behind my decision to pursue a major in finance is because
I want to study how to manage money in a company and the role companies play in affecting the
banking system. Also, I am convinced that majoring in finance is one of the most effective and
efficient ways in becoming a successful entrepreneur. As a finance major, I can only study; as a
successful entrepreneur, I will be equipped with the resources to improve the lives of hundreds if not
thousands of people. According to Techtarget.com, Silicon Valley continues to be one of the country s
leading regions for high tech innovation and development, accounting for about one third of all
venture capital investment in the United States (Rouse). Based on this statement, readers would think

Regionalism In The Return By W. B. Yeats And Dylan Thomas...
Introduction If Southern writers deny their inner beings, the South can be only an exporter of raw
materials, perhaps an exporter of man power, and a consumer of imported cultural products. It will
cease to export them. In the creative sense it will be numb and sterile. During the 1920s and 1930s,
regionalism played an important part in American art. Throughout the English speaking world, the
minority culture of the province was reflecting and criticizing on the dominant culture in society. The
Ireland created by W.B. Yeats and Dylan Thomas Wales were examples of regionalism in the British
Empire. In America, regionalism arose in New England, the Midwest and the South. Southern
regionalism started with what was called the Southern Renaissance. ... Show more content on

The Development Of Decision Making
The Development of Decision Making in Nursing Nursing is a profession that has traditionally
attracted individuals who have a desire to help others and have an interest in the health sciences
(Ruesink, 2012). In the complex world of health care, good intentions only go so far in terms of client
safety, quality of care, and achieving the best possible outcomes, and that is why critical thinking,
decision making, and evidence based practice are crucial to the nursing profession when acting on the
behalf of our clients (Fero, Witsberger, Wesmiller, Zullo, Hoffman, 2009; Ruesink, 2012; Thompson,
Aitken, Doran, Dowding, 2013). In this paper I will discuss and explore three decision making models
that support nursing decision making, how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC), defines Clinical decision making as:
A complex and dynamic process, occurring within a larger context and drawing from various
dimensions of knowledge, in which nurses collect and organize information in order to form
conclusions and choose actions, with the intent of creating the best outcomes for clients (2014, slide
19). The nursing profession demands a high standard of quality and safety, compelling nurses to act
professionally, be accountable for their own actions, and embrace their Professional Standards
(CRNBC, 2013). The CRNBC Professional Standards requires nurses to know where to access
information to support their knowledge to deliver evidence based, competent nursing care, as well as
use decision making tools to guide their assessments, diagnoses, and treatments (2013). For nurses to
make clinical decisions that enhance a client s health, promote realistic solutions, and reduce potential
risks, decision making and critical thinking must happen in sync (Fero et al., 2009; Standing, 2005).
To support critical thinking in nursing practice, and help novice nurses compensate for the lack of
clinical experience, decision making models have been constructed to help navigate the multi
dimensional complexities of the

Who Is The Protagonist In Fight Club
Fight Club (1999) Fight Club is a drama directed by David Fincher, based on the Chuck Palahniuk
novel of the same name. It follows an insomniac (Edward Norton), who becomes discontented with
his white collar job and forms an underground fight club with the eccentric Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt).
(Figure 3.1) Tyler spliced frames in Fight Club, this technique foreshadows Tyler s habit of splicing
explicit imagery into family films. Throughout the opening twenty to thirty minutes of the film, until
his full introduction, Tyler is implanted in single frames at moments where he would reflect what the
Narrator would want to become (fig 3.1) such as at the self help groups the Narrator occupies his time
with due to his insomnia, showing that the Narrator is still formulating the personality. This technique
is alluded to during Tyler s montage showing his night jobs, where he cuts single frames of
pornographic movies into family movies. (Figure 3.2) Narrator with Tyler in the background
Throughout the entire film, Tyler is presented in scenes doing whatever the Narrator would rather be
doing, such as when the Narrator is on the phone to Marla (Helena Bonham Carter), Tyler is shown
playing with nun chucks in the background. This feeds into the fact that Tyler is the idealised, more
laid back version of the Narrator. Fincher shows the spilt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stereotypes Of Single Mothers
There is a stigma associated with women that are supported by government aid, especially single
mothers. The women on welfare are often treated poorly because people think they are working the
system . Tax payers feel as if the single mothers on welfare perpetuated their own poverty by having
children that they cannot support, just for a bigger welfare check. They often assume that these women
do not work and just live off government handouts. I know of mothers that fit this stereotype; adults
still living in their parents houses, rent free, with several children from multiple fathers. The women I
know do not work and they are hardly good parents. They fit the description of the stereotypically
single mother on welfare; they are lazy and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her current work looks at the impact of employment and receiving welfare on the well being of
children. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania (Harris). Diane Purvin received
her Ph.D. in 2004 from Brandeis University s Heller School for Social Policy and Management, where
she worked on a major study of welfare reform and family well being. Her postdoctoral training was
in Risk Resiliency in Child Adolescent development. She conducted research on domestic violence
among diverse low income and welfare reliant families. She also participated in several state policy
committees through the Massachusetts Coalition against Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence
(Purvin). Charles A. Reich is an American legal and social scholar as well as writer and a Professor at
Yale Law School. Reich has always been interested in advocating for the rights of individuals that he
felt we repressed by the government. Reich believed that the individual s right to privacy and
autonomy were not sufficiently protected (Citron). It is critical to look at the issue of single mothers
on welfare from an interdisciplinary perspective, and to understand that there are many facets of
gender inequality that cannot be solved by any one solution. Rather than focusing only on lack of
income and assets, it is important to understand the deep seated structural causes of poverty. The

Steel Magnolias is a great movie of love, laughter, and tears. It features six strong willed woman who
are the Steel Magnolias of the tittle... as Roger Ebert says. The women dealt with many set backs in

the main set backs is Shelby, one of the Steel Magnolias (Julia Roberts), fighting with diabetes. Shelby

get to them. For example, Harry and Helen argue about whether he should drink a whisky and soda,
whether she should read to him, and about how he is going to die. Harry thinks about his life
experiences a lot in this short story, about how he hasn t lived up to his potential as a writer because he
has a tendency to marry rich women. Harry also goes in and out of consciousness while remembering
his life adventures. His wife Helen does care for Harry and she does enjoy his writing, but she is
obviously concerned about his health and his self pity irritates her. Harry mentions that Helen is really
a good wife and does not keep him as a proud possession and how she doesn t neglect his true talent,
which is writing. We also find out that Helen is a widow who was bored of the lovers before Harry
and they married because of her enjoyment of his writing and how they have similar interests. At the
end of the story Helen wakes up because of a loud hyena call, she takes a flashlight and shines it on
Harry s bed which she moved into their tent earlier that night. She sees him under the mosquito net
with his leg hanging off of the cot and notices that Harry is dead. The hyena cries again but Helen can
t hear it over her heart breaking. Formal: Tender Buttons by Gertrude Stein is a collection of writings
about ordinary objects, and is divided into objects, food, and rooms. She uses random objects with
random adjectives, and she uses language to direct the mind and force the reader to connect nouns
with unsuspecting adjectives to make you look at the world in a new way. It s a pros poem, it s a
cubist poem. She tries to break apart logic. The theme is giving new meaning to ordinary objects, she
wants us to think, she uses a lot of literary devices.

Methods of Research
Research, systematic inquiry aimed at the discovery of new knowledge, is a central ingredient of the
scientific method in psychology. It provides the key to understanding the degree to which hypotheses
(and the theories behind them) are accurate. Just as we can apply different theories and hypotheses to
explain the same phenomena, we can use a number of alternative methods to conduct research.
In this exercise, you will learn more about several methods of research that psychologists use to gain
new knowledge about human behavior and ethical concerns psychologists face when conducting
research.
1. You are conducting research on sex differences in e mails. Your hypothesis is that men use more ...

Additionally, the habitat or environment cannot be controlled when making the observations.
3. You have decided to conduct a survey on whether a given political candidate will be popular with
Latino voters.
* What is an advantage of the survey method?
The survey method can be advantageous to show that a political candidate would be popular amongst
Latino votes because a larger population can be surveyed. This would show the attitudes of those
surveyed. * What is a disadvantage of the survey method?
The disadvantage is that the participants may not accurately or honestly answer the questions for fear
of having socially unacceptable attitudes.
4. You have decided to use the case study method to investigate a mother s experience in raising a
child with autism.
* What is an advantage of the case study method?
When studying a child with autism the case study method provides an in depth and intense
investigation of the individual and their behaviors. This provides a better understanding of the
individual.
* What is a disadvantage of the case study method?
The disadvantage is that the child is unique and the results couldn t be associated to the larger
populations because the results may not apply to all or represent the larger population accurately.
5. When conducting research what are some of the ethical concerns that must be addressed?

Conflicted Nature And Loneliness In Ethan Frome By Edith...
Ethan Frome, from Edith Wharton s novel, exposes his desires to be with Mattie through his
conflicted nature and loneliness. Ethan Frome exposes his desires to have Mattie through his
conflicted nature. First, throughout the book Ethan is conflicted with having to choose to stay with his
wife, Zeena whom he does not love or leave her for his true love, Mattie. This conflict exposes his
desires to have Mattie, because he is even considering leaving Zeena to be with her. During the book
when Ethan Frome is conflicted, this shows how much Mattie means to him, especially when he first
contemplates leaving Zeena. Next, Ethan Frome exposes his conflicted nature when he must decide if
he will be with Mattie forever by committing suicide with her or

Essay about William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying
William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying
In William Faulkner s novel, As I Lay Dying many points of view are expressed through the use of
interior monologue, but even when they are all put together, they can t serve as an objective view of
what really happened. In the book, there are many monologues by many different people, often with
opposing ideas and beliefs. Together the novel is a book of half truths, with each set of events formed
by what the narrator believes is the truth. To each individual what they say and think they consider a
reality, however, it is merely their own perception of reality and consequently it becomes subjective.
In the following essay, I will describe the structure the author uses in the book and the underlying ...

The reader can t gain an objective idea of what really happened during that period of time. Another
example of an actual incident and of people s opposing views coming into conflict with the reality of
what was going on was with Cora and Darl. He did not answer. He just stood and looked at his dying
mother, his heart too full for words (Faulkner 24 25). This is how Cora views Darl, as a kind and
loving son, the private favorite and love of Addie. Darl however, appears to be indifferent to his
mother and the three dollar load. Everyone else knows that Jewel is, in fact, the favorite child; this
makes the characters unreliable in retelling the actual events to the reader. Each monologue is clouded
with the viewpoints and ideas of the character narrating it, so it is impossible to have an objective
account of what really happened. Using the form that Faulkner uses we can also see that while Darl
narrates many chapters in the novel, and is viewed as the most reliable character, this idea is ruined
when he is sent to an asylum. Darl has gone to Jackson. They put him on the train, laughing, down the
long car laughing; the heads turn like the heads of owls when he passed (Faulkner 254). In Darl s final

In line 6 the writer gives us an image in the phrase the snake slides away. Here the writer describes the
wonderful movement of a snake that can make you carious to know how it is created. Furthermore in
the same line the speaker give us a simile when she describes the jumping of a fish like a little lily
which is type of plant that grows from a bulb and that has large white or coloured flowers .( Oxford
dictionary 2006)The writer also gives us another great image of nature :The gold finches sing from the
unreachable top of the tree . Here unreachable top of the tree is connected to the first line of the poem
where there are things you can t reach even if you want to like the gold finches who sing from a far
place. In line 7 the writer invites us to look at nature by saying I look and then saying morning to night
where she means she looks at nature all day long without feeling bored or done with looking. In line 8
the writer tells us that in line 7 when she said looking she didn t mean just standing around in nature,
but standing around as though with your arms open .Here I think the writer means that your mind
should be open and think about what god created .In line 9 the poet extends this idea by saying that
when you stand around with your mind open and working, maybe something will come to you, for
example, a shining coil of wind. Maybe she means some air which will give you an energetic spirit.

The History Of Drinking Water
In an age when man has forgotten his origins and is blind even to his most essential needs for survival,
water along with other resources has become the victim of his indifference.
Rachel Carson
The water you see around you, flowing freely, sparkling in the noonday sun, quenching your thirst,
bathing you, providing you with life is all limited there is no place on this planet where new water
springs up from a source. Water has been recycled by nature over and over again since time began.

mountainside, or gushing out of Old Faithful. It cannot be created; it cannot be renewed by planting a

Now, much of it is from such sources as fertilizer running off farm fields and motor oil washing off

we re trying to engage a lot more people.
How Mr. Evans is going to engage a lot more people is never mentioned. Perhaps when we reach
critical levels of toxic elements in our water table than the people will become more involved.
Drinking water is different in that we take it into our bodies. We need this water to live. If the water is
undrinkable due to heavy metals, such as nitrates from farmers, or mercury from power plants, or by
pollution from some other source of industry than the available drinking water becomes scarce.
Informing the public is not enough to engage the people. Battles have been fought over water rights
for many years from the Plaines Indians, cattlemen and ranchers all the way up to Mulholland stealing
water from Owens Valley. Now the fight is between Environmentalist, Industries and the Government.
While they discuss whether EPA reports tell the whole story, there exist an ever increasing demand for
water from an ever increasing population. If the people are not engaged in the process of conservation
and prevention the water problem will only get worse.

Brand Management in Automobile Industry
Brand Management in Automobile Industry
Literature Review
Mr. Bentley? He builds fast trucks.
Ettore Bugatti[1]
Peter Drucker, who is claimed to be the greatest management thinker of the last century [2], once
declared: The automotive industry is an industry of industries [3]. The automobile industry exists for
more than a century and tracing the changes and development that took place there could tell volumes
about the human history. In some way automotive industry reflects it, but if one looks deeper into it
one could notice that in some way the industry itself formed the history of the 20th century. Though
the industry is market driven now, it was not always like that. The example of Henry Ford producing

the brand s personality and stress their attention on it. Top Management of Automotive Companies
understand that the design has a great influence on the perceived quality of the product, i.e. whether
the customer will or will not love the car at a first glance. Anne, as all other authors, states that brand
management should not be narrowed into a certain department and that every department of a
company makes its own contribution to the development of the brand, starting from marketing and
finishing with the delivery service. Her opinion is absolutely the same with the opinion of Philip
Kotler in his book Marketing Insights . Besides that, similarly to Ms. Asensio he considers that: great
brands present emotional benefits, not just rational benefits [7]. Deiter Becker in his presentation

indirectly. Nevertheless, his presentation in some way unites the point of views of the previous

Cultivating Your Emotional Intelligence Essay example
This paper is based off my response to a fictional scenario. In this scenario, I am a struggling writer
who has placed third in a writing contest held by the university I attend, and my fellow classmate in
this scenario won the grand prize (Module 3 Lecture Pages, n.d.). However, I believe my classmate
won the contest because he plagiarized one of my previously published stories, and now I have to face
him at the awards ceremony (Module 3 Lecture Pages, n.d.). How I react to this fictional scenario, is
based on the varying levels of emotional intelligence, and whether or not my level of emotional
intelligence played a role in my reaction (Module 3 Lecture Pages, n.d.). In addition, this paper will

I would then let the university handle the matter in whichever way they see fit, while I try to keep my
emotions under control and respect the decision of the university. As for when I see my fellow
classmate, I would remain cordial and congratulate him on winning the contest. I probably would ask
him where he got his story line from, as well as whether or not he has ever read my story I had
published. I would confront him about my suspicion I have concerning the story line; most likely he
would deny any plagiarism accusations that I or the university made against him. If he told me he didn
t steal my story line, then I would be the bigger person and tell him we should put our differences
aside (agree to disagree), so that the conversation will not escalade into more of an argument.
Differing levels of emotional intelligence The emotional intelligence level an individual has plays a
significant role in how he/ she will react to any given situation (Kinicki Kreitner, 2009). I believe an
individual with a low or immature level of emotional intelligence would act in a negative or disruptive
manner when handling a problematic situation; allowing their emotions to get the best of them
(Kinicki Kreitner). For instance, in the above scenario, someone with a low level of emotional
intelligence may have called their classmate right when they found out and

Negative Effects Of Technology On Society
Nowadays it is almost impossible for many people to do their works and spend their days without
using any kind of technology. According to Savanah Guthrie, an American journalist a recent survey
found that people check their phones up to hundred fifty times a day. We talk, text, listen to music,
surf the web, take pictures, oh, and then we share it all on social media. Many people think of
technology in a negative way. They think technology makes people create their own world and it make
them alone. Even though technology has some negative effects on society, it has also a positive impact
on the way people communicate. Technology makes it possible for people to enrich their relationships
and for disabled people to overcome their disabilities. Today with many communication applications
available people are able to easily stay in touch over long distances. Social media depends highly on
technology. The development of technology impacts social media. Social media makes it possible for
people to stay in touch. Communicating through mobiles at any time of the day through hundreds of
applications are the outcome of technology. Except getting in touch with everyone in every part of the

Dred Scott V. Sandford Case Analysis
An Investigation of African American Citizenship
Within the United States Constitution as it Pertained to the Dred Scott Case of 1856 In Dred Scott v.
Sandford, Chief Justice Roger Brooke Tawney and the Supreme Court ruled in favor of John Sanford
because of three factors that were derived from the United States Constitution. Most importantly,
slaves are not clearly defined within the United States Constitution. Secondly, the Court found that
Dred Scott was, in fact, a slave according to the lack of specific placement of African Americans
within the Constitution. Lastly, the Court ruled that Scott was property of John Sanford. To better
understand the infamous Dred Scott Case, the background of the situation is necessary information. In
1830, Peter Blow sold a slave named Sam, who would later become known as Dred Scott, to Dr. John
Emerson, an army surgeon who traveled often because of his occupation. Dr. Emerson, who took his
slave wherever he went, was then ordered by the army to go to Fort Armstrong in Illinois. Illinois was
a free territory under the Northwest Ordinance of 1787 and had prohibited slavery in its constitution.
In 1836, Emerson was relocated once again to Fort Snelling in the Wisconsin Territory. This area was
north of the Missouri Compromise Line and, by the Act of 1820, prohibited slavery. While ... Show

Analysis Of The Century Quilt
Quilts are traditionally thought of as precious antiques that illustrate rich history and imagery. Their
fabric is laced with beautiful patterns accounting tales of the past that older generations with to
preserve. In Marilyn Nelson Waniek s poem, The Century Quilt, Nelson employs structure, vivid
imagery, and a fanciful tone to illustrate how a family quilt is used to connect generations with one
another with this precious family heirloom.
Waniek s choice of structure for this particular poem is unique in that it alternates between short
phrases and winded, descriptive lines. This gives the poem the child like atmosphere that Waniek was
intending to illustrate. It is evident that the author is an older individual who is reflecting on both their
life and the lives of those who had used the quilt prior. Thus, the alternating between short and long

Each square holding a sweet gum leaf and its pattern of leaves definitely gives the impression that this
quilt is a magnificent and encompassing tree. Trees are traditionally thought of as old and full of
meaning, having many branches and leaves stemming from the same trunk. This parallels the meaning
of the quilt to the individual since it is a tool by which the individual can relate and think of those, in
his family, who may have also taken comfort and enjoyed the whimsical essence of this tree.
Additionally, this quilt allows for the individual to fantasize about the days of those who used the
blanket before: his [gentle] mother and [proud] father. He is able to imagine their lives with fanciful
imagery while also questioning who will take the blanket next, perhaps a son, the speaker says. This

My Family History
During my excessive research on my family background, I found that I had major complication
learning about my history. The reason for this was because my family was brought to a country that
totally wiped out my ancestor s culture. The only part I understand of my family history is slavery. We
started out as slaves in when first brought to America. We were originally from West Africa. We lived
in places such Nigeria, Congo, and Ghana. This was a time when we owned our land and freedom.
However, around the late 1500s, the western European culture had finally discovered our deeply
rooted heritage. They saw that beautiful land we had nourished, They saw the love within our
community. They saw the resource we provided. They realized the strength we had as a people. Soon
the western Europeans felt that needed to conquer us and our land. The wanted to prove that we re
able to conquer because of the more industrialized military they had. They forced my people to move
to a unformal land that conquered from another culture of people. So after arrival to the new world,
the European immediately forced my ancestors to change their names. They gave us our names of our
slave owners. This resulted in my ancestors to being someone s property. My ancestors worked day in
and day out in the hot sun; picking cotton, building houses, growing crops and being housemaids. The
European s would soon transition into what we know today as Americans. For the next four hundred

The human brain is fabricated of 100 billion neurons. As one grows and develops, these neurons are
attached to each other, and communicate through thousands of connections called synapses.
(sciencemuseum.org.uk) .The brain is only reflected to process information that will be useful at a
later date, and to allow the rest or in other words unimportant information to pass by unnoted.
Memories are formed when certain connections inside our brain are strengthened. Human memory is
an intricate activity of the brain that allows us to store information and retrieve it again when we need
it. All people have a natural curiosity about their memory. This question came into account several
years ago by reports in the popular press of recovered memories from early childhood. This question
also brought along many other questions and whether infants can recall memory from any length of
time. Due to this sudden interest in the human memory, it led to many people assuming that the time
for the research on memory was then. (Rovee Collier, June 1999, pg.80) But that belief is proved to be
wrong. The study of human memory stretches back to at least to 20,000 years ago. Aristotle made one
of the earliest attempts to understand human memory in his thesis called On the Soul . In his thesis
Aristotle compared the human mind to a blank slate and hypothesized that all humans are born
unrestricted to any knowledge and are purely the

The Bloody Chamber Symbolism
In The Bloody Chamber, Angela Carter tells the tale of a seventeen year old girl who marries an older,
wealthy Marquis. Like many other clever authors, Carter gives the reader an opportunity to determine
the outcome of the story before the ending is reached through her symbolism and allusions which
foreshadow the ending. In doing so, she not only provides insight into what will happen next but also
further develops each of the characters through these complex symbols that she incorporates
throughout the story. Carter first alludes to the outcome of the story by introducing the ruby choker
that the Marquis gave as a wedding gift within the first few pages of the narrative. She describes it as,
a choker of rubies, two inches wide, like an extraordinarily precious slit throat (6). The reader can
infer a considerable amount from this one simple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He orders her to put on that white dress you wore to hear Tristan and the necklace that prefigures your
end, suggesting as though he has known her demise was inescapable from the moment he gave her the
choker (40). Regardless of whether or not the reader had missed the clues that Carter left earlier in the
story, this reference to the choker is much more explicit, as it contrasts the dark ruby color with the
bright white dress. This illustrates the theme of innocence versus violence, which is seen all
throughout the story. The explicit revelation of the necklace prefiguring her end shows that the
symbolism that Carter incorporated in the story begins subtler and becomes more straightforward
towards the end. While not all of Carter s elements of foreshadowing may have been as lengthy and
apparent as the ruby red choker, not a single one fell short of its quality and effectiveness in helping
her to reach the overall effect of building anticipation and increasing tensions throughout the

Personal Narrative-The National High School Cheerleading...
We spend 720 minutes, 12 hours, and 6 days a week mentally and physically preparing for a 2 minutes
and 30 second routine. Our talent becomes unbeatable, and we as a team become unstoppable. The
countless hours, hundreds upon hundreds of repetitions, blood, sweat, and tears all become worth it.
We are the Lowell Red Devils, and with that name, we carry proud alumni that came before us. We
were not always so memorable in the cheerleading world though. This past year we set a goal of
making it to The National High School Cheerleading Championships, in Orlando Florida. To get to
this competition we had to qualify in December, not only did we qualify but we placed first out of 15
teams. The energy and excitement was paralyzing, as we realized ... Show more content on

Arriving there was culture shock, thousands of teams were practicing for their big moment in any
patch of grass or open area they could find. We arrived at our competition tent on Saturday morning
with a rush of emotions. We started with flawless warmup, giving us the confidence to hold our heads
high. With the thought in the back of our minds that no one has done or attempted this before , we are
only one of four teams in northwest Indiana to make it this far , or what if were not good enough . I
stepped up realizing the team was looking at me to guide them through this bittersweet moment. I said
calmly Ladies we are the best of the best. We have accomplished an incredible amount this season and
the outcome of this competition will not take any of that away. I will not ask you to go out there and
hit every stunt and throw every tumbling pass perfectly; but I will ask you to go out there and give it
all you ve got. If you walk off that floor without any regrets, thats all I could have ever wanted.
The results came in and for the first time in school history the cheerleading team advanced to semi
finals. That moment is one I will carry with me for the rest of my life. We now hold the national title
of 16th in the

Effects of Neuropeptide Oxytocin in the Body
The neuropeptide oxytocin can have numerous effects within the body. Some of these effects are still
not understood today. However, oxytocin has been proven to play a critical role in social behaviors
Being able recognize emotions from facial expressions can be enhanced by intranasal oxytocin. For
example, when there is a positive emotional social stimulus present in the environment, individuals
that are administered oxytocin, will preform better on memory performance. This is due to the fact
that oxytocin enhances the recognition of facial expressions and therefore memory
Oxytocin and Face Processing
In the Bate, Duchainec, Burnsd, Hodgsone (2012) article, it was hypothesized that repeated
administration of oxytocin would enhance the process of recognition in memory The processes of
acquisition and retrieval of memories is a critical function of the amygdala. During the process of
recognizing threatening stimuli, amygdala activity is enhanced. The researchers of this study thought
that oxytocin might be able to influence the process of recognition memory because oxytocin
influences emotional regulation during encoding. The goal of this experiment was to examine how
memory performance would be influenced by single oxytocin administration before encoding and
repeated administration before encoding and retrieval.
Method of Experiment
The 80 male participants were briefed to verify that they did not have any psychiatric conditions,
which was determined by the Structured

companion out of the room. Additionally, a complete search of the room was ordered without a
warrant. Inside a closed dresser drawer the officers found a cloth bag secured at the top with a draw
string. They opened the closed bag and found over two ounces of cocaine. As a result, the court found
that the above factors constituted the defendant s had a reasonable expectation of privacy in the motel
room for three reasons. First, a few days earlier, when the defendant had stayed past check out time,
instead of evicting him the hotel permitted him to extend his stay and pay for the additional term of
occupancy. Second, the manager testified that it was the motel s policy to ask those guests staying past
checkout time whether they would be leaving or extending their stay. It was not the motel s policy to
evict guests who were staying past checkout time for brief periods. Third, the defendant had given the
hotel a large cash deposit, which may have led him to believe that he was paid up through the rest of

Pros And Cons Of Dual Citizen
I. Many people may not know that there are different types of United States citizens. A person is either
a natural born citizen or a naturalized citizen. Natural born citizens were born here and given
citizenship right away. Naturalized citizens are immigrants that followed the steps to citizenship.
Naturalization, the process to become a United States citizen is a lengthy procedure that includes
much paperwork and many legal affairs.
II. There are certain items that are required to enter the country.
A. The green card allows an immigrant to live in the country permanently.
1. The green card looks like a driver s license.
2. Immediate family members of a green card holder receive one as well.
3. An immigrant that is a refugee gets one too. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

2. It simply does not recognize the other country as your home.
3. Many dual citizens say it is a blessing to be a citizen in multiple countries.
4. They say they love being a part of multiple cultures.
C. The conflict between the dual citizens and the military are as follows.
1. There is controversy about of a dual citizen can serve in the armed forces.
2. This is again due to security requirements.
3. One argument is that a dual citizen could be communicating with the other country they call home.
4. The other argument is that the dual citizen would not have become a citizen just to spy on the
military.
VI. Illegal immigrants in the United States are turning into a massive problem. Illegal immigrants
looking for work in the United States sometimes buy fake identities in hope of not getting caught. In

Nas The Space Shuttle Essay
On the icy morning of January 28, 1986, seven brave people boarded the Challenger space shuttle. All
of America sat around their televisions watching and waiting for the space shuttle to finally lift off.
One of the seven people aboard this shuttle was Christa McAuliffe, a teacher in the Teachers in Space
program and would have been the first civilian to go into space. Her students were invited to come to
NASA and watch. The engines roar sounded loudly and the shuttle finally left the ground. It was an
illuminating sight to see, until a flame started at the base of the shuttle. The space shuttle caught on
fire what seemed like instantly, and exploded within seconds. Due to this tragedy, the NASA space
program has made several improvements to prevent tragedies like this one from ever happening again
(Carreau). NASA may have made improvements, but the horrifying memory of this disaster will be
embedded in the minds of the people of America and Christa s class for the rest of their lives. The day
that the shuttle took off was not the original lift off date. The date that was originally planned was
January 25, 1986, but was cancelled due to weather conditions. This was the first cancellation of
many. On January 26, the weather condition was perfect, but due to the cancellation the day before,
the shuttle was not quite ready for takeoff yet. Just to make sure everything was ready, the flight was
rescheduled for the last time on January 28. Christa McAuliffe,

  • 2. The First Challenge For Australian Foreign Policy The first challenge for Australian foreign policy is to maximize the economic and security opportunities by maintaining their relationship with Indonesia and ASEAN. In the case with Indonesia, Indonesia is one of Australia s closest friends as the two countries share strong security and economic system. In terms of politics, Indonesia is essential to Australia because Indonesia plays a key role in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations so a steady relationship with Indonesia is required for a cohesive and productive relationship with ASEAN. Moreover, Indonesia is the most important country in Southeast Asia with one of the most powerful military forces in the region. Therefore, Indonesia already controls and wants to improve its effect over ASEAN. According to researches, Indonesian motives for improving its role as regional peacekeeper have been revealed in recent perspectives by the general of the Indonesia s military, who stated, Indonesian motives of playing a big brother role with the respect to security in ASEAN and in the region (Tiernan, 2007). Meanwhile, Australia has recognized the significance of ASEAN in assuring Australia s foreign regional and domestic security. There are certain institutions such as the East Asia Summit and ASEAN Regional Forum (Harvey, 2015). In recent years, Australia has worked robustly with the EAS to ensure its security and interests are protected. In return, the EAS has not only supported in regional security but it also has ... It is touched by 8 different countries, including Russia and the United States. It is an area of extreme economic and scientific interest, being one of the last frontiers not yet completely explored or conquered on planet Earth. Can the Arctic be both an economic powerhouse and an ecological preserve? The answer to this question is yes, it is possible, but it would be extremely difficult. If the arctic becomes an economic powerhouse, it will be difficult for it to remain an ecological reserve, and if it become an ecological preserve it can not become as much of an economic powerhouse. The arctic becoming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Oil spills can severely hurt many species of bird and fish which live in the Arctic, as well as the animals which prey on them, and as there is currently no surefire way to fix or contain an underwater oil spill if it happens, along with the limited infrastructure currently in the Arctic, the results of one could be disastrous for the Arctic s ecosystem. • 6. Essay on High School Graduation High School Graduation Graduation is an exciting time in a person s life, especially a high school graduation. For most people their graduation day is one of their best day of their lives. No more high school, and for some it means that they are able to move on with their life and live on their own as well as embark on the independent journey of college. In my case, when I think of family and friends gathering to celebrate a joyous occasion. I feel like I accomplished my strongest goal. It never occurred to me that graduation would be the end of my youth and the start of my adulthood. Graduating from high school was an influential event that gave me an altered outlook on my existence. Although, my graduation day started out not so well, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My friend and I were still waiting for our names to be called out, but as were sitting down my friend had asked me, Can you believe were graduating already? I replied back, No it s hard to believe how were going to graduate high school in less than two days. Than finally my principal called out my name and handed me cap and gown as I quickly took it and just sat there while I stared at the bright gold color. It s funny how the simplest things can symbolize a whole new beginning. Second, after I got my cap and gown my friends and I tried it on and took pictures for the last time, than we went to class and talked about what we were going to wear to graduation and how we would do our hair and makeup, and where we would meet up so we could all go together. As our last class ended for the day, I realized how another day was gone and we were a couple days close to graduation day which made me more anxious as well as excited at the same time. As I got home I put my cap and gown in my closet and just stood there and stared at it for a couple minutes as I wondered how fast high school went by and how I would leave all the memories behind and start a whole new different experience in college. As I stood there, suddenly someone knocked on the door. As I opened the door my friend was standing right in front of my porch. I asked her, what are you doing here? she responded, get ready were going to go dress shopping. I smiled and went back to my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Italian American Cultural Museum Research Paper Immigration has been in motion from as far back as the 16th and 17th century. As a country that was established due to immigration and the pursuit of freedom, it comes to no surprise that many people from around the world fled to the United States. However, a substantial amount of Italians did not start immigrating to America until the late 1870 s to 1924. More than 4 million Italians left Southern Italy and Sicily due to poverty and political hardships. On top of that, the belief of a better life in America was a large motivation and the dream that they can return to their motherland with more wealth, drove them to explore outside of their country. In today s modern society, Italian Americans make America s fifth largest ethnic group. In spite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Italians were part of a new movement of immigrants as the old movement consisted of Germans, Scots, Irish and other European countries, making up the early history of the United States. The new movement consists of slaves, Jews, and Italians as they were primarily the current immigrants coming in and working labor in contrast to other immigrants who has been around a lot longer than they have. This new sector was looked down and discriminated against, as the old movement had the perception of being in a higher caliber than the other immigrants who was pouring in. The Italians that generally settled in the United States are refugees or from low income families. The refugees sought protection and stability, as Italy was an adequately new country with insufficient government control. This occurred as Italy has been divided into states for over a century and slowly came together as one, even though it was still divided by the rich and the poor (Two Sicily). On top of that, Mussolini who was situated by Adolf Hitler, came to power and plummeted Italy s economy. As the Italians continued to arrive, many settled within Lincoln Heights and the Eastside; gradually moving their way to the west, Italian cities expanded and became one of the cities most populated and oldest neighborhoods of the United States. • 8. 1984 Dystopian Society The book 1984 was written by George Orwell in 1948, the main theme of this book is social science fiction. A underlying theme is this book is a dystopian future: the social, economical, and political problems are issues that are lied about, prove this. When looking at the social aspect of life in 1984 all social groups are treated very different yet at the same time are all treated the same. In 1984 there is a very obvious hierarchal system; the top is The Inner Party, than The Outer Part, and on the bottom of the list are the proles. In Oceania this society strictly follows this, and does not deviate from these set rules of class. Each social group in 1984 are marginalized, excluded, and silenced, the way that this happens to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As usual, there was no definite rule against talking to proles and frequenting their pubs, but it was far too unusual an action to pass unnoticed (87). This just shows how odd it is for Party Members to talk to proles, but when a Party Member does need to they do it knowing only a little backlash will happen if they are questioned. The proles live in parts of Oceania that are the slums of the state. As Winston walks around the proles part of town, he brings up that it doesn t smell good at all. If there was hope, it must lie in the proles, because only there, in those swarming disregarded masses, eighty five percent on the population of Oceania (69). • 9. Marijuana Essay Marijuana The third largest agricultural good in the nation and a ten billion dollar industry has nothing to do with the agriculture we are use to. This good is Marijuana, an illegal drug. It is the most widely used illicit drug in America n(Gold v). In Florida alone, marijuana sales are greater than all businesses except tourism (Gold v). What is marijuana? Marijuana, a plant, known as Cannabis Sativa, labeled that by Carolus Linnaeus in 1753 (Grinspoon 1), is one of nature s hardiest specimens (Abel ix). It can survive in any climatic condition possible, and flourishes like weeds do. Marijuana acts like a weed, stealing all the sunlight and nutrients around it. This os the high that draws people to smoke marijuana. They fall into a languid state, and time slows down for them. The psychoactive compound that creates this euphoric sense is delta 9 THC. Marijuana s potency varies. In the female plants flowers is the greater concentration of cannabinoids, related compounds to delta 9 THC (Abel 5). Sinsemilla, a seedless version of marijuana, that has been cultivated in recent years, has much higher concentrations of THC throughout the plant (Abel 5). The amount of THC that is present depends on the conditions the plant is raised in (Gold 261). Cannabis that is grown in temperate climates contains little delta 9 THC and a high concentration of cannabidiol. Cannabis grown in hot climates has a greater delta 9 THC concentration and barely any cannabidiol. It is these plants that are grown in the hotter climates that are cultivated for their psychoactive effects. Marijuana contains almost 30% THC; however, 50% of that is destroyed when it is burned, such as when it is smoked (Gold261). The smallest amount of THC that produces a high is 5 mg, but since 50% is destroyed, it is really 2.5 mg (Gold 262). • 10. Argument For Moderate Objectivism An argument for ethical objectivism would be Pojman and Fieser s moderate objectivism. According to them, a moral claim is objectively true when it describes an objective moral principle. An objective moral principle is a rule that, if generally followed, would optimally perform the function of serving human needs and interests by reducing harmful social conflict and promoting beneficial social cooperation. (Luco, Week 6 Notes p.1) This is the reconstruction of Pojman and Fieser s Argument for Moderate Objectivism 1. Common human nature: Human nature is relatively similar in the sense that human beings have a common set of basic needs and interest 2. Functionality Thesis: Moral principles are instituted to perform the function of meeting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, careful analysis of simple moral principles can also lead to the conclusion that the functionality thesis is true. Using the example that we should keep our promises to people as a moral principle, Pojman and Fieser do mention that if a world were to cease obeying it, contracts and agreements would no longer hold any value. (Luco, Week 6 Notes, p.11) It is not difficult to imagine that in many societies where transactions and contracts are made daily, from bank loans to bicycle rentals, without the moral principle of keeping promises and honouring contracts, the individuals who enter into an agreement would no longer see the need to honour their contracts. As a result, business would fail and chaos would ensue in the society. Further empirical evidence can be seen from Steven Pinker s research from A History of Violence was conducted over different time periods and it also supports the functionality thesis in the sense that people with stronger reasoning abilities do construct practices and institutions to meet their interest. • 11. Captive Orcas Killer Whales Though often seen as fierce killing machines, Orca whales, more commonly known as killer whales, are much different. In some ways, these mysterious creatures are much like humans. Many people are fascinated by these whales when they see them perform in marine parks such as SeaWorld. What most people don t realize is that the life of these whales is not as great as it may seem. There is much evidence that proves captive life will never be adequate. There is no doubt that life in captivity is no match for life in the wild. Orcas exhibit unnatural behaviors and aggressive tendencies in captivity that do not occur in the wild. In captivity, orcas have been known to show aggressive tendencies resulting in injury and even death. While there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The longest a captive born Orca has very lived is twenty five years (Rose, 3). The average life expectancy is six years in captivity. Eighty six percent of 135+ whales in captivity since 1961 are now dead (KIWE, 3). SeaWorld, one of the most famous marine parks exhibiting Orca whales, has experienced approximately one Orca death a year since beginning their breeding program. It is reasonable and logical to expect at least a third of all captive whales to still be alive today considering the number of males and females, years since the first Orca entered captivity, and life expectancies in the wild, but only twenty percent is still living. The most parsimonious explanation for this failure to show improved survivorship, despite the effort by Oceanaria to advance husbandry techniques in the past forty five years, is that Orcas are inherently unsuited to confinement (Rose, 3). Not only are Orcas far too intelligent to be held captive, but also captivity does not meet their familial and social needs. In the wild, Orcas have complex familial and social relationships with those in their pods that they are not able to sustain in captivity due to being placed in a pool with and artificial family. Orcas typically spend their entire lives with their families unless taken away (Cronin, 2). In captivity, the young are separated from their mothers. Plato says in the opening of this article Let me show in a figure how far our nature is enlightened and unenlightened . • 13. Finance Major Essay The definition of finance is rather complex but Merriam Webster seems to provide the most comprehensive explanation, stating, the management of revenues; the conduct or transaction of money matters generally, especially those affecting the public, as in the fields of banking and investment (Merriam Webster). The management of revenues is essentially the core of what separates the jobs of finance majors, compared to other business related majors such as accounting and economics. While accountants identify where the money comes from, the finance people identify how to best use that money. While economic majors study how to grow the entire economy of a country, finance majors study how to value a company. The reason behind my decision to pursue a major in finance is because I want to study how to manage money in a company and the role companies play in affecting the banking system. Also, I am convinced that majoring in finance is one of the most effective and efficient ways in becoming a successful entrepreneur. As a finance major, I can only study; as a successful entrepreneur, I will be equipped with the resources to improve the lives of hundreds if not thousands of people. • 14. Regionalism In The Return By W. B. Yeats And Dylan Thomas... Introduction If Southern writers deny their inner beings, the South can be only an exporter of raw materials, perhaps an exporter of man power, and a consumer of imported cultural products. It will cease to export them. In the creative sense it will be numb and sterile. During the 1920s and 1930s, regionalism played an important part in American art. Throughout the English speaking world, the minority culture of the province was reflecting and criticizing on the dominant culture in society. The Ireland created by W.B. Yeats and Dylan Thomas Wales were examples of regionalism in the British Empire. In America, regionalism arose in New England, the Midwest and the South. Southern regionalism started with what was called the Southern Renaissance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 15. The Development Of Decision Making The Development of Decision Making in Nursing Nursing is a profession that has traditionally attracted individuals who have a desire to help others and have an interest in the health sciences (Ruesink, 2012). In the complex world of health care, good intentions only go so far in terms of client safety, quality of care, and achieving the best possible outcomes, and that is why critical thinking, decision making, and evidence based practice are crucial to the nursing profession when acting on the behalf of our clients (Fero, Witsberger, Wesmiller, Zullo, Hoffman, 2009; Ruesink, 2012; Thompson, Aitken, Doran, Dowding, 2013). The College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC), defines Clinical decision making as: A complex and dynamic process, occurring within a larger context and drawing from various dimensions of knowledge, in which nurses collect and organize information in order to form conclusions and choose actions, with the intent of creating the best outcomes for clients (2014, slide 19). The nursing profession demands a high standard of quality and safety, compelling nurses to act professionally, be accountable for their own actions, and embrace their Professional Standards (CRNBC, 2013). The CRNBC Professional Standards requires nurses to know where to access information to support their knowledge to deliver evidence based, competent nursing care, as well as use decision making tools to guide their assessments, diagnoses, and treatments (2013). For nurses to make clinical decisions that enhance a client s health, promote realistic solutions, and reduce potential risks, decision making and critical thinking must happen in sync (Fero et al., 2009; Standing, 2005). To support critical thinking in nursing practice, and help novice nurses compensate for the lack of clinical experience, decision making models have been constructed to help navigate the multi dimensional complexities of the ... The women on welfare are often treated poorly because people think they are working the system . • 21. Snows Of Kilimanjaro Analysis Angelica Sawan Professor North October 23, 2017 SLD Packet 2 Summary: The Snows of Kilimanjaro by Ernest Hemingway is a tale of a man named Harry and his Wife Helen who are on a safari trip, and while on it Harry catches gangrene because he doesn t put ointment on a cut he received from a thorn while taking a photo of a water buck. Throughout the story Harry is a Negative Nancy, arguing with his wife and being blunt about how he is going to die before a rescue team can get to them. For example, Harry and Helen argue about whether he should drink a whisky and soda, whether she should read to him, and about how he is going to die. Harry thinks about his life experiences a lot in this short story, about how he hasn t lived up to his potential as a writer because he has a tendency to marry rich women. Harry also goes in and out of consciousness while remembering his life adventures. His wife Helen does care for Harry and she does enjoy his writing, but she is obviously concerned about his health and his self pity irritates her. Harry mentions that Helen is really a good wife and does not keep him as a proud possession and how she doesn t neglect his true talent, which is writing. We also find out that Helen is a widow who was bored of the lovers before Harry and they married because of her enjoyment of his writing and how they have similar interests. At the end of the story Helen wakes up because of a loud hyena call, she takes a flashlight and shines it on Harry s bed which she moved into their tent earlier that night. She sees him under the mosquito net with his leg hanging off of the cot and notices that Harry is dead. The hyena cries again but Helen can t hear it over her heart breaking. This would show the attitudes of those surveyed. * What is a disadvantage of the survey method? The disadvantage is that the participants may not accurately or honestly answer the questions for fear of having socially unacceptable attitudes. 4. You have decided to use the case study method to investigate a mother s experience in raising a child with autism. * What is an advantage of the case study method? When studying a child with autism the case study method provides an in depth and intense investigation of the individual and their behaviors. This provides a better understanding of the individual. * What is a disadvantage of the case study method? The disadvantage is that the child is unique and the results couldn t be associated to the larger populations because the results may not apply to all or represent the larger population accurately.

In the book, there are many monologues by many different people, often with opposing ideas and beliefs. Together the novel is a book of half truths, with each set of events formed by what the narrator believes is the truth. Another example of an actual incident and of people s opposing views coming into conflict with the reality of what was going on was with Cora and Darl. He did not answer. He just stood and looked at his dying mother, his heart too full for words (Faulkner 24 25). This is how Cora views Darl, as a kind and loving son, the private favorite and love of Addie. Darl however, appears to be indifferent to his mother and the three dollar load. Everyone else knows that Jewel is, in fact, the favorite child; this makes the characters unreliable in retelling the actual events to the reader. Each monologue is clouded with the viewpoints and ideas of the character narrating it, so it is impossible to have an objective account of what really happened. Using the form that Faulkner uses we can also see that while Darl narrates many chapters in the novel, and is viewed as the most reliable character, this idea is ruined when he is sent to an asylum. Sandford, Chief Justice Roger Brooke Tawney and the Supreme Court ruled in favor of John Sanford because of three factors that were derived from the United States Constitution. Most importantly, slaves are not clearly defined within the United States Constitution. Secondly, the Court found that Dred Scott was, in fact, a slave according to the lack of specific placement of African Americans within the Constitution. In this chapter we focus on describe the most controller type of controllers that are particularly appropriate for control engineering applications, Which is a PID Controller, We applying this controller to control the speed of BLDC motor, in which its parameters are tuned by many methods such as Ziegler Nichols method and optimization techniques which include genetic algorithm (GA) and artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC). The chapter is organized as follows. In Section 3.1 a conventional PID controller is introduced. Section 3.2 illustrate Ziegler and Nichols Tuning method which tune parameters of the PID controller, Section 3.3 is a Genetic algorithm based PID controller, Section 3.4 gives Artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm. 3.1 PID Controller 3.1.1 Introduction The most commonly used type of controller for many applications in industries is the PID controller. It owns very simple structure and has strong performance across a wide range in the condition of operation. PID controllers are the most suitable type of choices if there is no complete knowledge of the system. Minimizing the error is the most important function in PID controller. In which the controller compute the error between the measured value and the required set point of the process variable, result in, a correct value of controller parameters according to the set point was given and also the error remains low as much as possible. In the book, The Plague by Albert Camus, a great sickness contaminates the city or Oran and numerous rats hurry into the open to die. Eventually the authorities put the whole city under quarantine, which angered citizens. The story begins with Dr. Bernard Rieux discovering a dead rat on the ground with blood spilling out of it s mouth, then he finds many more lying out in the open. He assumes that either hunger has driven the rodents out of hiding, or they were being pranked. As the rats continue to increase, Dr. Rieux contacts the pest control. Dr. Rieux is introduced to M. Michel, whose arms and neck have swollen up painfully, and later dies. That same day, he receives a phone call that his neighbor, Cottard, has attempted to hang himself. Their fabric is laced with beautiful patterns accounting tales of the past that older generations with to preserve. In Marilyn Nelson Waniek s poem, The Century Quilt, Nelson employs structure, vivid imagery, and a fanciful tone to illustrate how a family quilt is used to connect generations with one another with this precious family heirloom. Waniek s choice of structure for this particular poem is unique in that it alternates between short phrases and winded, descriptive lines. This gives the poem the child like atmosphere that Waniek was intending to illustrate. Each square holding a sweet gum leaf and its pattern of leaves definitely gives the impression that this quilt is a magnificent and encompassing tree. Trees are traditionally thought of as old and full of meaning, having many branches and leaves stemming from the same trunk. Additionally, this quilt allows for the individual to fantasize about the days of those who used the blanket before: his [gentle] mother and [proud] father. The reason for this was because my family was brought to a country that totally wiped out my ancestor s culture. The only part I understand of my family history is slavery. We started out as slaves in when first brought to America. We were originally from West Africa. We lived in places such Nigeria, Congo, and Ghana. This was a time when we owned our land and freedom. However, around the late 1500s, the western European culture had finally discovered our deeply rooted heritage. They saw that beautiful land we had nourished, They saw the love within our community. They saw the resource we provided. They realized the strength we had as a people. Soon the western Europeans felt that needed to conquer us and our land. The wanted to prove that we re able to conquer because of the more industrialized military they had. They forced my people to move to a unformal land that conquered from another culture of people. So after arrival to the new world, the European immediately forced my ancestors to change their names. They gave us our names of our slave owners. This resulted in my ancestors to being someone s property. My ancestors worked day in and day out in the hot sun; picking cotton, building houses, growing crops and being housemaids. One wouldn t be able to remember his/her name, how to look after themselves or to even recognize their own friends and family. It would be impossible to live happily without ones memories. That is why our memories are such vital points in our lives. They are the building blocks of our current selves. Due to those reasons it is very useful to find as much information regarding it as possible. For that very purpose this research paper has been written. The purpose of this research is to uncover the truth regarding how the human brain stores and retrieve memories. Throughout this research, topics such as definition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Mastin, 2010) The human brain is fabricated of 100 billion neurons. As one grows and develops, these neurons are attached to each other, and communicate through thousands of connections called synapses. (sciencemuseum.org.uk) .The brain is only reflected to process information that will be useful at a later date, and to allow the rest or in other words unimportant information to pass by unnoted. Memories are formed when certain connections inside our brain are strengthened. Human memory is an intricate activity of the brain that allows us to store information and retrieve it again when we need it. All people have a natural curiosity about their memory. This question came into account several years ago by reports in the popular press of recovered memories from early childhood. This question also brought along many other questions and whether infants can recall memory from any length of time. Due to this sudden interest in the human memory, it led to many people assuming that the time for the research on memory was then. (Rovee Collier, June 1999, pg.80) But that belief is proved to be wrong. The study of human memory stretches back to at least to 20,000 years ago. • 42. The Bloody Chamber Symbolism In The Bloody Chamber, Angela Carter tells the tale of a seventeen year old girl who marries an older, wealthy Marquis. Like many other clever authors, Carter gives the reader an opportunity to determine the outcome of the story before the ending is reached through her symbolism and allusions which foreshadow the ending. In doing so, she not only provides insight into what will happen next but also further develops each of the characters through these complex symbols that she incorporates throughout the story. Carter first alludes to the outcome of the story by introducing the ruby choker that the Marquis gave as a wedding gift within the first few pages of the narrative. She describes it as, a choker of rubies, two inches wide, like an extraordinarily precious slit throat (6). The reader can infer a considerable amount from this one simple ... This illustrates the theme of innocence versus violence, which is seen all throughout the story. The explicit revelation of the necklace prefiguring her end shows that the symbolism that Carter incorporated in the story begins subtler and becomes more straightforward towards the end. While not all of Carter s elements of foreshadowing may have been as lengthy and apparent as the ruby red choker, not a single one fell short of its quality and effectiveness in helping her to reach the overall effect of building anticipation and increasing tensions throughout the ... • 52. Nas The Space Shuttle Essay On the icy morning of January 28, 1986, seven brave people boarded the Challenger space shuttle. All of America sat around their televisions watching and waiting for the space shuttle to finally lift off. One of the seven people aboard this shuttle was Christa McAuliffe, a teacher in the Teachers in Space program and would have been the first civilian to go into space. Her students were invited to come to NASA and watch. The engines roar sounded loudly and the shuttle finally left the ground. It was an illuminating sight to see, until a flame started at the base of the shuttle. The space shuttle caught on fire what seemed like instantly, and exploded within seconds. Due to this tragedy, the NASA space program has made several improvements to prevent tragedies like this one from ever happening again (Carreau). NASA may have made improvements, but the horrifying memory of this disaster will be embedded in the minds of the people of America and Christa s class for the rest of their lives. The day that the shuttle took off was not the original lift off date. The date that was originally planned was January 25, 1986, but was cancelled due to weather conditions. This was the first cancellation of many. On January 26, the weather condition was perfect, but due to the cancellation the day before, the shuttle was not quite ready for takeoff yet.
