LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like
Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can
occur natural.

2. The Human Factor of Global Warming
The Human Factor of Global Warming
The Human Factor of Global Warming
Global warming has been a growing concern for many over the last several decades. The effects
of global warming are evident and broad, with historical research dating the first global warming
crisis back 56 million years ago, better known as the Paleocene Eocene Thermal Maximum, or
PETM (Jardine, 2011). Research from the composition of sediments of fossils shells of marine
organisms conclude that carbon dioxide trapped within our atmosphere, increased global
temperatures by more than 5 degrees in just a few thousand years (Jardine, 2011). While global
warming may not be in question, many scientists have questioned the actual global warming effect
theory due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
* While humans might not be solely to blame for global warming, we definitely have a major
role. Most are familiar with the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and gas) as a major contributor
to the overall C02, although, just as equally important is that of deforestation. It was realized
that conversions of land use, primarily deforestation in the tropics, induce substantial terrestrial
carbon losses to the atmosphere, approximately 1.6 billion tons annually (Broadmeadow, Freer
Smith, amp; J. Lynch, 2007). While the cause of deforestation varies in different regions, the
key contributors are cutting down tree to open up more land for agriculture, urban sprawl (Turk
amp; Bensel, 2011). Forests work like filters to remove CO2 from the air and store it in the trees.
When the trees are felled or burned, huge amounts of CO2 are released into the atmosphere at a
rapid pace. Urban Sprawl, a result of deforestation releases significant amounts of green house
gases such as CO2. Not only do you have carbon dioxide being release from burning or cutting of
forests, it is coupled by urban sprawl. It just so happens one of the effects of urban sprawl is that
Concrete production contributes 5 percent of annual anthropogenic global CO2 production, mainly
because such vast

3. Boy In The Striped Pajamas
The movie, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, by John Boyne, keeps the memory of the Holocaust
alive by recounting it history through a tale. The story focuses on a family who lives right next to
the death camp in Nazi Germany during the Second World War. Bruno, unaware his father is
placed in command of the death camp, makes friends with a boy behind the fence. I believe this
movie should have been made. This story approaches the holocaustthrough fictional characters
while staying true to the facts throughout the movie by utilizing a child s perception, use of
wording, and keeping to the facts.
Movies about historical events take on a different approach to separate from other movies to keep
the viewers watching. In this manner, John Boyne wanted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This can be from how the adults spoke around and to Bruno. This seemed like the parents were
quick to change the subject and distract Bruno to keep his innocence safe. As some may
recognize it as doublespeak. They used words to replace what was going on in the death camps.
This is another example of the movie staying authentic to the corruption that had taken place of
the Holocaust. The father uses the form of doublespeak when he said, The thing is Bruno, those
people, they are not really people at all . The father saying, they were not people is exactly how
the Jews were considered. This is also evident in Nazi propaganda where the Nazis treated the
Jews as if they were not human. The used images and horrible sayings on these posters to display
negative connotations. In their posters, they had, Other pre existing images of the Jew included
parasites, leeches, devils, rats, bacilli, locusts, vermin, spiders, blood suckers, lice, and poisonous
worms, among many other un human descriptions . The Nazi propaganda was pervasive as they
forced these inappropriate representations of the Jews. In this other article, it explains how the
Nazis had changed their status to deny the Jews their moral rights to humankind. This went onto
explain that the Nazis considered them to be rats, It s wrong to kill a person, but permissible to
exterminate a rat. This was enough for the Nazis to be abuse and kill Jews. I wanted incorporate
this quote because reading it gave me this conception of how the Nazis used this excuse to
oppressed the Jews. Still, I could not and cannot wrap my head around how humans can treat their

4. Wilfred Owen Techniques
Wilfred Owens war poetry
Good morning/afternoon teacher and peers,
Wilfred Owen was born in 1893 in Oswestry (United Kingdom). He wanted to be a poet from the
age of nineteen although most of his famous work is that which he wrote in his years spent in the
war where he died in 1918.
The preface to Owens poetry read:
This book is not about heroes. English poetry is not yet fit to speak of them.
Nor is it about deeds, or lands, nor anything about glory, honour, might, majesty, dominion, or
power, except war.
Above all I am not concerned with Poetry.
My subject is war, and the pity of war.
The poetry is in the pity.

Figurative language, as with most poetry, is readily used in much of Owens work because it helps
to create tone and communicate emotion effectively. Let s take a look at the poem mental cases
for a few examples of figurative language. Metaphor, misery swelters surely we have perished.
Simile, bearing teeth that leer like skulls teeth wicked? And also the poem disabled where we see
an example of personification in the line that speaks of how the town used to swing so gay.
Symbolism when it tells of the disabled man wearing his ghastly suit of gray, the gray symbolises
the dullness and shadows that now hang over him.
We often see the use of oxymoron s and paradox when something is being contrasted within a
poem such as a line from the poem dulce et decorum est, gas! GAS! Quick boys! An ecstasy of
fumbling which is used to describe the controlled panic which quickly increases as the men
fumble to put on thier gas masks. A good example of a paradox also from this poem is the line that
Owen writes the devil, sick of sick this is a paradox because the devil is a personification of sin,
this is just another way he portrays how horrific war is.
Rhetorical features are used by Wilfred Owen as it heightens the effect of the language, to create a
more persuasive effect.
Repetition is often used weather this be to make the poem sound monotonous when read such

6. The Roles Of Married Women In The 17th And 18th Century
The word restoration is represents the historical time period that occurred in England between the
years of 1660 to 1700. This era was marked when the monarchy was restored to England after ten
years because of the rule of Parliament. During the 17th and 18th century women were placed into
three different roles: virgins, married, or widows. While each role was different so were the
expectations and images. A married womanduring this time would have strictly been at home taking
care of the children, cleaning, and cooking meals. The husbands had the most control in the
relationship. To document the female roles during this time, there were poems, books, and plays
that depicted these roles. The two plays that showed the married women s role would be The
Country Wifewhich was written by William Wycherley and the Beggar s Opera that was
produced by John Gay. The roles of married women are describe in Jane Collier s book, An Essay
on the Art of Ingeniously Tormenting, there is a section of which a man is giving advice to his
daughter about being a married woman. The father discusses the challenge of being a wife is how
to live with a husband. Being a wife means she would have to observe his behavior because there
are several temper that men portray. The happiness of being a wife is to make sure the husband is
happy. The disadvantages include not having choice; the husband will do that for the wife. Modesty

Desire can be used as a tool to set goals and motivate people to accomplish objectives over their

characters starts a new life in a new era, where they believe that desire is rewarded. The film begins
in the Thaw period Moscow, with three protagonists who are part of the urbanization movement of

8. The Third Wave Of Feminism In The Early 20th Century
Feminism is still very much needed in this day in age. Although Feminism has come a long way
since being first introduced in the early 20th century, the movement faces new challenges. Women
have accomplished the goals they had set from the first wave of Feminism, including the right to
vote, the right to work, and the right to have custodial rights over their children. The second wave
of Feminismfocus was for women to have sexuality and reproductive rights. Women gained their
reproductive rights in the Roe vs. Wade (1973). In Roe vs. Wade, women gained the right to have
abortions. The third wave of Feminism, which is continuing right now, focuses on universal
womanhood; how women are portrayed in society. Although women have accomplished some of
the goals they set in the Feminist waves, there... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first wave on of the goals was to have the right to work. Women have the right to vote
however, in most work fields there is still a substantial wage gap between the genders. On
average, women earn 71% of men s wages. Women who are financial specialists make 66% of
what men in same occupation earn. Women who are lawyers and judges earn 82% of what men
make in that field. When it comes to hiring, men hold an advantage over women in some fields
of work simply because they are men. In the second wave, one of the focuses was sexuality.
Sexuality is still an issue today. Same sex marriage had just been recently recognized in the United
States (June 26 2015). Although same sex marriage is permitted, the LGBT community is still
heavily discriminated against. Members of the LGBT community have harder times getting jobs
and even being accepted into society. The current feminism s wave, which focuses on how women
are portrayed in the media/society, has not been rectified. Women are constantly displayed in the
media as sexual objects to lure men. For example, in a

10. Redy-Made Identities from Mercedes Benz C Class
Advertising why your product is better than other products in the market, is not enough to make
consumers buy your product anymore. These days companies need to relate to their customers
emotionally and logically. During Super Bowl I saw this Mercedes Benz C class commercial. It
is called Perfect Harmony. The commercial was about how everything lines up perfect ones in a
spell. The commercial shows the scene, where all the planets line up in a straight line. Later on
the scene background voice says that, When that perfect time comes, makes sure you are in the
correct spot and the right vehicle. In this Mercedes commercial, Mercedes tries to emotional
branding with their consumers, as well as they are attempting to sell ready made identities. In
the Mercedes Benz C250 commercial Mercedes is manipulating their consumers by selling them
a ready made identity. This is explained by Douglas Rushkoff, who said that, Brands become
more than just a mark of quality; they become an invitation to a longed for lifestyle, a ready
made identity. What Mr. Rushkoff is trying to say is that, brands are not just a product or a mark
of quality anymore. Brands have become a ready made identity, for instance, if an individual
owns a Mercedes that individual considered as a successful and well doing in their life. The
Mercedes C class commercial does not talk about the features of the car, or the technical aspects of
the car. Based on that, Mercedes Benz is not a car brand

I.Research Question or Problem
The journal article question is clearly stated. The question asks whether the behaviourist, the
psychoanalytic, the cognitive, or the neuroscientific perspective is most intellectually significant
and most prominent in psychology today (Robins, Goling, amp; Craik, 1999, p. 117).

Articles regarding the psychoanalytic and neuroscientific perspective, however, were essentially
non existent throughout the studied period. Authors provided graphs and tables in order to
demonstrate their findings over time for each index (Robins, Gosling, amp; Craik, 1999, p.121 126).
V.Discussion/Conclusions
Due to their compelling findings, the authors were able to construct several conclusions. Firstly,
psychoanalytic journals, dissertations, and flagship articles have not been in the spotlight of
mainstream psychology for the past several decades (Robins, Gosling, amp; Craik, 1999, p.123,
124). Secondly, with the focus currently on cognitive psychology, behavioural psychology has and
continues to subside in scientific psychology (Robins, Gosling, amp; Craik, 1999, p.124).
Moreover, the authors state that one reason cognitive psychology is transcending behavioural
psychology is due to the immeasurable role of computers in modern society. For example, thanks to
computers, considerable changes have taken place in regards to scientists understanding of
memory, information processing, etc (Robins, Gosling, amp; Craik, 1999, p.124). Lastly,
mainstream psychology does not yet recognize neuropsychology; however, there is an obvious
increase in popularity that is underway. Authors recommend further research to explore the growing
prominence

12. High Cost Of Higher Education
Many students will soon drop out of college due to the constantly rising cost of higher education.
Research shows that both the two year and four year education system in the U.S. has experienced
a significant increase in college tuition over the last three decades. If this trend is allowed to go on
unchallenged, the likelihood of most students being unable to meet the high cost will be very high
in the coming years as there are already notable signs of this happening. According to education
expert Philips Elliot from the Christian Science Monitor (2013), the tuition cost for students
attending the public two year schools went up by 6% in 2012. This pushed the total cost of
attending this program to nearly $10,000 per year. This rise is estimated to have been 24% over
the overall inflation rate. The same case was replicated in the four year category where the cost of
tuition went up by 9%, bringing the total cost for this program to nearly $27,000 per year. The
same costs were witnessed in the private learning institutions where the cost of attending college
went up by an average of 14%. This brought the total cost to $42,000. The costs were even higher
for students who chose to attend college outside their home states. The official records show that
students in this category paid more than $31,000 to complete a four year program signifying an
11% increase (Elliot, 2013). Stakeholders from the education sector have given various reasons to
justify this increase.

13. The Problem Of Using Magnetic Stripe Cards
Over the last few years the banking landscape has changed dramatically, with security issues and
emerging technologies framing the conversation concerning where to go from here. Financial
crises and an increasingly common occurrence of data breaches have exposed a fundamental flaw
in our system, and financial institutions and businesses alike are looking for ways to make
transactions, and banking, more secure in the digital age. The question, however, is not why we
need such extensive reform of our payment methods, but why we fell so far behind to begin with.
The road to rebuilding our financial system is a long and arduous path, made difficult by the
resistance to change of not only banks and businesses, but consumers as well. However... Show

million victims of identity theft in the US in 2012, and in 2013 that number skyrocketed to over 70
million, leaving consumers wondering why the threat of data breaches aren t being taken more
seriously. At least 130 countries have replaced this dated technology, most of them opting to switch
to chip and pin cards, otherwise known as smart cards. While smart chips contain the same financial
information required to complete transactions that magnetic stripe cards have, they do not share
this information with the point of sale. Instead, the register asks for a verification code to use the
account, and the smart chip provides this code. Since the code is randomly generated for each
transaction, even if someone were to replicate a card with someone s information on it, they could
not generate the passcode contained on the smart chip to utilize that information, making it much
more secure to use than magnetic stripe cards. According to a paper released by the Federal
Reserve banks of Atlanta and Boston (Contini et al.) the biggest obstacle to any transformation is
the cost of the change. Upgrading the existing payments infrastructure from mag stripe to smart
cards and PINs has long been resisted by both financial institutions and merchants due to the

Most teenagers go through a phase in their lives where rules are irrelevant to them and they step

open up a teenagers eyes and allows them to see and guide their future. The real question is, will
the teenagers learn from their mistakes in life, or continue down the same path? In the short
story Greasy Lake, T.C. Boyle introduces a group of male teenagers who go through this
rebellious phase as I described above. Right around the end of this short story, the characters
have an epiphany during their experience at Greasy Lake, which guides their route in life. The
short story starts up with the protagonist stating it was good to be bad. Notice he says was not is

this story. Because we later find out that the protagonist changes his whole outlook of the lake

16. Stem Cell Regulation
Skin with its hair follicle is an excellent system to study molecular mechanism of stem cell
regulation. Due to constant need of tissue regeneration, it has abundant number of stem cells.
Hair follicle consist of a permanent portion sebaceous gland and below it is a bulge area, which
houses Hair follicle epidermal stem cells(HFSCs). Bulge also provides niche for melanocyte stem
cells interspersed between HFSCs. Behavior of the two stem cells is well coordinated.
Differentiating melanocytes transfer pigment to terminally differentiated hair follicles (Nishimura
et al., 2002; Tanimura et al., 2011; Rabbani et al., 2011).Hair follicleundergoes cyclical bouts of 3
phases anagen (phase of active growth), catagen (destruction phase) and telogen (rest phase)
(Hardy, 1992). HFSCs give rise to daughter stem cells which are retained in the bulge area and
others form, either epidermal progenitors which migrate upwards during tissue repair or it forms
hair matrix progenitors which migrate below to form hair shaft (Niemann Watt 2002; Oshima et al.,
2001; Taylor et al. 2000).
In early 1990s, HFSCs were located in the bulge region by label retention studies (Cotsarelis et
al., 1990; Morris and Potten, 1994). Later in 2001, presence of HFSCs in bulge area was
confirmed by transplantation experiments. When lac z labeled bulge region from adult mice was
transplanted into hairless mice, lac z labeled cells formed morphologically distinct hair follicle
(Oshima et., 2001). Lineage tracing

European Military Integration
For 65 years, Europe has had its military policy tied to that of the United States through the North
Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). During much of this period European and U.S. security
interests were aligned against a common threat in the USSR. However, the era following the
collapse of the Soviet Union has been marked by a European shift away from national sovereignty
and towards a more integrated Europe. This can be most notably observed by the adoption of a
common currency in the 18 member states of the Eurozone. Interestingly, this level of integration
has not been present with regards to the military forces of Europe despite considerable support
from several powerful states in the European Union. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Protectionism is the natural reaction to foreign competition and the EU member states have been
no exception. Article 296 of the EC Treaty offers an exemption from internal market regulations
when their application would undermine member states security. Predictably, members have
employed a loose interpretation of Article 296 in order to avoid an open market for defense
contracts. They generally prefer to procure military equipment domestically to support their defense
industry. The creation of an integrated European Military along with a single market for defense
could alleviate these shortcomings. The amalgamation of Europe s militaries into one unified entity
would necessitate military equipment standards to support cohesion. A truly connected military,
designed to serve the whole of Europe, would more effectively provide global influence, just as
integration has provided Europe more influence in the economic sphere. Additionally, a single
market for defense products would promote competition and specialization, helping the European
defense sector become more competitive in the global market as well. The adoption of a single
market is likely to produce winners and losers as the states with the least competitive firms may
struggle, but the net economic effect for Europe should be positive.

Defense Force and its ability to aid its allies. The vague wording of the article questions the
legitimacy of the Self Defense Force, and has been one of the biggest controversial subjects in
Japan for decades. Many groups want to change the law, while others want to pass new laws to
specify the boundaries of the 9th Article.
Article nine is, depending on whom one asks, one of the most famous, or infamous part of the
entire Japanese Constitution. The debate over the necessity of article nine is one of the most
disputed arguments in the country. With 39.2% believing the article is unnecessary, and 22.1%

How special are trophies? If you hand out trophies to everyone for no reason the kids feel like

Based on the numerous sources of sound data available, U.S. is currently out educated. On the
latest Program for International Student Assessment form 2015, the United States scored an
average in reading and science, and below average in math. Results had been unchanged since
2000. U.S. scores are behind global leaders like Finland, South Korea and Canada. It is not a
surprise that Shanghai outscored every other country, in all areas tested.
As U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Dunkan said at the Foreign Language Summit, 2010: We
have to educate our way to a better economy, just as our competitors are doing. We see this as a
challenge to get better, and one place we obviously need to get better is in teaching languages. The
United States is a long way from being the multi lingual society that so many of our competitors
are. My message to you today is that K 12 schools and higher education institutions must be part of
the solution to our language gap.
A world class education requires students to read and communicate other languages, in addition to
English. We need the Department of Education support now, more than ever, in implementing
second language instruction starting with early education and continuing engaging students in
language, throughout high school and college. In an increasingly complex and interconnected

35. Biological Determinism And Social And Economic Differences...
Question 1. Biological determinism as stated by Gould, states that shared behavioral norms, and
the social and economic differences between human groups primarily races, classes, and sexes
arise from inherited, inborn distinctions and that society, in this sense, is an accurate reflection
of biology (Gould, p.52). He explains this idea further through his explanation of how biological
determinism can be measured or assigned based on the craniometry, which is the size of the
skull, for at the time it was believed that the larger the skull, the more intelligent that individual
was. This explanation became one of the earliest works connected to scientific racism. Gould,
believed that during this time many scientists used their own prejudices, and bias s when
concluding their research, such as the work of French anthropologist, Paul Broca, who stated that
the small brains of women concluded that men were to be regarded as more intelligent, as well
as, above women, however, although women did prove this prejudice to be wrong with their
talents and their diplomas , they were still opposed by numbers (Gould, p. 58). Biological
determinism is, in its essence, a theory of limits for it states that people who are at the bottom are
basically biologically inferior, which is reflected in their social status (Gould, p. 60). Both Darwin
and Mendel contributed to biological determinism and scientific racism, is that both opened the
doors to new anthropological scientific

36. Death of a Salesman and Oedipus Rex
According to Aristotle, a tragic hero can be distinguished as one who can identify the source of his
downfall. In Death of a Salesman, Willy Loman s character refutes Aristotle s theory, as he is
notorious for blinding himself from the truth which appears quite obvious to others around him. As
a salesman throughout his life, Willy s set his life s goals on materialistic things and ultimately he
does not achieve those goals. Distinctly opposite to Willy, Oedipusin the play Oedipus Rex enters
life, as a nobleman who inherits his wealth. Although both characters experience a tragic
collapse, Oedipus comes to the realization of the tragic event which ultimately leads to his
downfall, while Willy never has a moment realization of either his downfall or the reason for it.
Through the analysis of Aristotle s theory of a tragic hero, it is revealed that Oedipus character
models the characteristics of a tragic hero as well as undergoing anagnorisis, while Willy s
character fails to exemplify these qualities. As part of Aristotle s theory, there are numerous
qualities a character must embody to be regarded as a tragic hero. These qualities include: being
born into nobility; agonised by a lapse in their decisions; experienced a downfall; and coming to
the realization of personal accountability for their downfall. Aristotle s theory initially appears to be
expressed through both Willy and Oedipus, however with further examination; Oedipus appears to
support the title of a tragic

As with all of Shakespearian Tragedies, Othello starts as an honorable man who turns into a

Shakespearian tragedy. Othello was a tragedy because, like Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and many
other of his renowned tragedies, the protagonist suffers from a fatal flaw which leads to their
ultimate and unfortunate downfall. The main character is also usually a person of great power,
wealth, and influence who then falls into absolute chaos, such was that of Othelloin the

make Othello s life a very tragic one and mark Shakespeare s play as a tragedy.
Othello is a true tragic hero, and his demise is caused by his fatal flaw; jealousy. Tragedy depicts

In school we are taught that Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves. This statement is reinforced
continuously throughout our education, beginning from the time we are in elementary school to

discussion never goes further than Abraham Lincolnenacted the Emancipation Proclamationand

values and that life for ex slaves was better for it. The truth of the matter is actually the complete
opposite. The emancipation proclamation was a purely political decision that instead of truly
freeing the slaves, only served to keep them bound. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12,
1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky. He moved between Kentucky and Indiana a little bit with his
family and also traveled with his friend when he was old enough to do so. In 1831 he settled

his people for a new development by driving Egyptians to disregard all gods except for Aten.
Akhenaten has his subjects and ruing class members undergo a revision that will suit Akhenaten s

two thousand deities worshipped in the ancient Egyptian culture. Almost overnight Akhenaten

45. The Importance Of Technology And Digital Media
It is evident that society has surrounded itself with technology. Technology and digital media are
mass media outlets that will ultimately affect our perception and ability to interpret and actively
analyze messages. Unfortunately, nefarious characters with shady intentions can take advantage of
this and spread false information. Thus, technology and digitalmediadegrade the most common
forms of discussion. The rapid expansion of technology and digital medialeads to poor mental
health, decreased quality of face to face communication, and the inability to discern false media
sources. It is imperative that society acknowledges our decline in face to face communication and
respond as a unified unit to strive to step away from technology and to interact with those around us
more effectively.
Technology has expanded at an unprecedented rate. Per the U.S. Census, 76% of households
reported having a computer in 2011, compared with only 8% in 1984 . (Drago, 2015, p.2).
Computers and digital media allow us to access information far more readily than ever before. From
the introduction of computers, humans have adapted to this new technology, bringing it into our
households and including them in daily routines, giving the ability to access digital information
without needing to read it from a physical direct source. Long gone are the days where painstaking
research meant going to the library and pouring through countless pages of research notes, papers,
encyclopedias, and reference material. The need to find something is brought up and the cultivated
21st century instinct reverts individuals to Google or to other digital media outlets for our
information. Digital media as well has expanded swiftly. From 2005 to 2009, participation in digital
networking sites more than quadrupled (Chou, Hunt, Beckjord, Moser, Hesse, 2009, pg.1). Digital
media is expanding at a stunning rate, but not always for the better.
From the statistics introduced, we can see the rapid expansion of technology and digital media.

more firms exhibit characteristics similar to those of non dividend paying firms), Fama and French
nonetheless report that once they control for these characteristics, they still find a significant
decline in the residual propensity to pay dividends. This evidence poses a further challenge to
dividend theories in so far as candidate theories should be able to explain time series changes in
the propensity to pay dividends. We extend this literature by examining cross sectional and time
series evidence on the propensity to pay dividends in several developed financial markets the
United States (U.S.), Canada, the United Kingdom (U.K.), Germany, France, and Japan over the
period 1989 to 2002. Specifically, we examine (i) whether the characteristics of dividend payers

time; and (iii) whether firms in other countries exhibit a declining propensity to pay dividends in
recent years. In addition, the use of international data allows us to provide further tests of the life

the propensity to pay dividends in other countries. Our evidence reveals common determinants of
