Paraphilic Behavior
I believe that there is no way to definitively explain how people become interested in certain sexual
desires, although an argument can be made for those who were sexually exploited as a child, which I
will also discuss. I think that people are constantly evolving, and as we change through the years, our
sexual interests and desires change as well. Things that we liked as children we have a tendency to
outgrow as adults, to expect that we will have the same desires at age 40 that we did at age 20 is naive.
Things we believe in and lifelong friends we have may be a constant in our lives, but most things have
a propensity to evolve. Therefore, you have to ask yourself why sexuality would not be one of the
things to evolve as well. People have long debated that most sexual preferences are ... Show more

I found that one might have a paraphilia that is necessary for sexual satisfaction (i.e. submission or
bondage) and their not at all interested in sex if it does not involve this paraphilia. At the same time,
one might have a paraphilic behavior but it is not necessary all the time for sexual satisfaction. They
may only engage in this behavior occasionally and may have many other sexual interests. I am leaning
toward one developing a paraphilia due to a habit they had early in life that may not have been of a
sexual nature but when being repeatedly associated with the activity they become sexually aroused
because it was pleasurable. On the other hand, exposure at an early age to inappropriate sexual
behavior a child will learn to mimic the behavior, they become conditioned to enjoy the behavior and
therefore see it as normal. Since they were deprived of normal sexual contact, they continue to seek
gratification through less acceptable ways. This differs from paraphilic behavior because it becomes a
disorder due to a child being unable to give

Bioliographic Information on Slavery and Colonial Rule in...
Bibliographic Information: Klein, Martin A., Slavery And Colonial Rule in French West Africa, 1998,
Cambridge University Press
The book bears importance in being one of the few studies about domestic slavery within the French
West Africa. It contributes to the field of study, by elaborating on the importance of slavery in
Senegal, Sudan and Guinea in Africa s development. The period of the study lies from 1876 to 1922,
wherein Klein ultimately shows the evolution of slavery. In the years prior to 1876, Klein argued that
slavery had an economic and social significance in societies. There are two themes which form a
major part of the book. They include: the conflict between the French in the metropole and the French
in Africa; and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the social taboo of being an ex slave (or of slave heritage), there are ex slaves who are afraid to
mention their backgrounds to Klein. This obviously leads to a limitation of evidence, which perhaps
makes it difficult for the reader to form an idea on what slavery was fully like. Despite this, Klein
shows admiration for those of slave backgrounds in portraying them as being spurred on by past
oppressions, to achieve a better life than those with master backgrounds. To further his arguments,
Klein uses secondary sources as a basis to criticize traditional arguments.
Apart from the deep historical analysis and the descriptive historical events (which aid in backing up
Klein s knowledge and deep research in the field), the book s structure is significant. In terms of
illustrations, Klein uses maps, figures and pictures. Maps are an essential part of the book in providing
vivid ideas on where battles occurred or which societies were based where. In this case, his writings
and the maps form a symbiotic relationship, in that the reader can understand the context through the
use of maps and his writing (clear up properly). Each chapter is structured in a way that allows the
reader to navigate around the chapter and read the relevant information. All chapters include an
introductory section (aimed at outlining the key points of the chapter in question) and a conclusion
(aimed at summarising and tying together the

History Of Development Of The Two Year College
The history of the development of the two year college as presented by Cohen and Brawer (1987,
2003), Dougherty (1994), Townsend and Twombly (2001), and Hutcheson (1999) indicates that most
two year institutions started out as junior colleges, providing the first two years of a bachelor s degree
for those living in rural areas without nearby universities and a chance to explore options for those
who were undecided about their careers. From the first community college established in 1901 in
Joliet, Illinois (Dougherty 1994), the number of community colleges across the United States
multiplied until the 1980s. After World War II the GI Bill of Rights promised returning veterans access
to higher education. In the 1960s the Johnson Administration used the community college as a key
weapon in its War On Poverty, supporting growth to the extent that by late in the decade, a new
community college opened every week (Nystrand and Duffy 10). With the Center for Educational
Statistics showing enrollments of over 2.1 million students in 654 community colleges as of 1970,
more students were beginning their college careers at two year community colleges than at their four
year counterparts, and by 1980 more than 4.5 million students were enrolled in community colleges
(Brint and Karabel 198). Local school and other government officials were motivated to support the
establishment of community colleges to meet the needs of business, the demands of families for

Organic Chemistry Of Chemical Reactions
Organic Chemistry
Organic chemistry is the chemistry of carbon compounds. It deals with the structure, properties and
reactions of compounds that contain carbon and includes those from nature as well as synthetic
compounds. Organic chemistry, often termed as the chemistry of design , allows new molecules to be
created such as in the manufacture of plastics, polymers, fuels, soaps, detergents, drugs and medicines.
These, if carefully designed, have important properties for the improvement of mankind. One such
example of manipulating organic compounds through chemical reactions is the development of
Aspirin and later, other associated analgesics or non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs.

when G. Stanley Hall opened a lab at John Hopkins University. In addition to this, in 1892 he
develops the American Psychological Association (APA) and later founds the American Journal of

Functionalism in the 19th century which focuses on acts and functions of the mind (consciousness).
Sigmund Freud introduces Psychoanalysis in 1896. He concludes that powerful unconscious drives

Also in 1896, Structuralism (focused on the contents of the mind) develops and is introduced to the

Is Affirmative Action Necessary
Schools across America are being prosecuted and praised for their use of Affirmative Action. But what
is Affirmative Action? It is an admissions policy that sets aside a specific amount of spots for students
of different races or ethnic backgrounds. It was first decided to use Affirmative Action by the Supreme
Court nearly 40 years ago. Many colleges across America use Affirmative Action, but not everybody
thinks of it as a positive thing. Affirmative Action is a necessary part of society because it ensures a
diverse student body, it gives opportunities to underprivileged kids, and it promotes education and
work. Every college strives for a diverse group of students to attend their school and Affirmative
Action is one of the only ways to ensure this. When students with different backgrounds come
together, they grow and learn from each other. According to Justice Lewis F. Powell Jr., ¨A farm boy
from Idaho can bring something to Harvard College that a Bostonian cannot offer. Similarly, a black
student can usually bring something that a white person cannot offer. ( Anderson) Students of different

colleges to only accept students of color even if they didn t have the grades. Even though their grades
may not be extremely good, they are still good and their grades do not represent the struggles that they

functionalism
Functionalism has given a useful understanding of society, despite its limitations. Functionalists
describe society using an organic analogy; they say society is like a biological organism. Parsons
found three similarities between society and an organism. System organisms such as the human body
and society are both self regulating and inter related, independent parts fit together in fixed ways. In
the body these are organs; in society they are institutions, such as family and education. Both
organisms have system needs for example an organism needs nutrition without which it would die.
Social systems have basic needs for example members of society need to be socialised. Both society
and organisms function to contribute to meeting the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parsons describes adaption and goal attainment as instrumental needs, to the means to an end, such as
producing food to sustain the population. He describes integration and latency as expressive needs as
they involve channelling emotions. By carrying out their respective functions the four sub systems
ensure that society s needs are met and social stability maintained. Parsons identified two types of
society, traditional and modern. Each type has its own typical pattern of norms. Within each type the
variables fit together, for example in modern society students are expected to pursue their own self
interests, achieved status through efforts in education, attained through deferred gratification. They are
all judged by the universal standard of exams. Contrastingly in traditional society an individual s
status is ascribed at birth and they re expected to put their kinships interest before their own, called
collective orientation. Parsons argues change is a gradual, evolutionary process of increasing
complexity and structural differentiation. The organic analogy is relevant here. Organisms have
evolved from simple structures to complex organisms with different parts performing its own
specialised function. Similarly societies move from simple to complex structures. For example in
traditional society a single institution, the kinship system, performs many functions. It organises
production and consumption, provides political leadership, socialises members and

Disadvantages of Implementing HTTPS
Cost There is an extra cost to obtain SSL Certificate, and hidden one s are administrative cost for
applying and renewal every year.
Slower HTTPS is somewhat slower in comparison with HTTP. It adds calculation overhead and
network overhead.
HTTPS cannot stop stealing personal information from the webpage s cache on the browser. Because,
SSL only translate data in coding, during transmission while in network, it is clear text in the browser
memory. HTTPS server can only offer one virtual host behind a single socket, whereas HTTP provide
multiple socket.
How would HTTPS will protect you using a public Wi Fi connection at a local coffee shop?
It is made to deliver us sheltered connection all over the place where ever people access protected
websites, still there is constantly a danger of using HTTPS over the public Wi Fi nets. Sometimes
MITM (Man in the Middle Attack) trap the public Wi Fi net. With MITM attacks, it pushes
web/mobile browser to use least SSL / TLS algorithm edition which made easy for hackers to break it
doubtfully. Handler never identify attacker s doubtful actions and turn out to be the victim of cyber
attack. Attackers can crack user s personal and financial, gathers their data and track their internet
activities.
To overcome this situation or best safe option is to use VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection
from your mobile/laptop.

The Unemployment Rate Of The United States
The national unemployment rate in the United States from December 2015 is 5.0 percent, which has
reduced from the previous months in 2015. The unemployment rates for Whites are 4.5 percent, which
is lower than the national average. But sadly the unemployment rates for minorities are much higher.
According to bls.gov the rate for unemployment for African Americans is 8.3 percent; although this
number is the lowest it has been since 2007, theirs is still higher than the national average. The
unemployment rate for Mexican Americans (Hispanics) is 6.3 percent and for Asian Americans is 4.0
percent. This shows that overall African Americans still have higher unemployment than every other
demographic since December 2016. The unemployment rate is measured by a division of the
Department of Labor known as the Bureau of Labor Statistics (bls.gov). This government agency
conducts a monthly survey called the Current Population Survey that involves 60,000 households.
These households are selected using random sampling methods designed to generate as close an
approximation as possible to the larger population. Unemployment occurs mostly when someone who
is actively searching for employment is unable to find work. But however people without a job are not
necessarily unemployed according to bls.gov. But according to cnn.com there were over 5.4 million
jobs opened in the U.S in April 2015 alone. So why does it seem that there are so many people mostly
minorities not being able to find a

Descriptive Essay On Bowling
It was dark and rainy outside, we were just in for a good time, yet we had no idea what was in for the
future ahead of us. Myself and a few other friends were at the bowling alley in Glenwood Iowa, for no
specific reason, just to have a good time with each other. It was the middle of summer and who knew
this was going to be one of the scariest nights of our lives.
It s your turn to bowl! Alyx exclaimed to me. Everytime I go up to bowl I wait for the same ball to
come out of the ball shoot every single time, it s bright red and only has 3 little holes for my fingers to
go into. As I went up to bowl, I grabbed my lucky ball and rolled it down the path like a slippery
snake, STRIKE! Right after I had gotten my strike, the bowling alley got a telephone call saying there
was a shooting nearby in town. Everyone got a little panicked, but we continued with our fun night of
bowling. Kamryn, Kennedy and Tommy all bowled and got their scores. It was starting to get darker
outside when all of a sudden we heard gunshots outside of the building, just as loud as when you hear
an airplane taking off. The gunshots were one right after another, 4 in a row. *boom boom boom
boom* they went in the air. Everyone went to look outside and all of a sudden a dark shadow wearing
all black clothes was starting to walk up to the door, it was still about 100 feet away, but it was getting
closer, and fast. Get into the bathroom, now! The manager of the bowling alley told us with spark in

Corporal Punishment with Respect to the Private and Public...
1 Introduction
Corporal punishment is the unlawful intentional act of causing harm by physically inflicting
punishment on the body of an offender or severely criticising the offender. There is a distinction in
common law between corporal punishment in the public sphere and in the private sphere.
Corporal punishment on children in the private sphere is administered by parents. It is legally accepted
in South Africa, provided that the requirements are met.
The public sphere s position is much different in the sense that the government along with all schools
have no authority to physically discipline school children anymore. Authority to exercise corporal
punishment often leads to abuse of power, child abuse and feelings of superiority. All ... Show more

Rex v Janke Janke ( Janke ) clarifies the rights parents have when corporally punishing their children
with the intention of teaching them a valuable lesson. The requirements for this defence are for it to be
moderate and reasonable. The reasonable requirement refers to the child having to wrongfully do
something or threaten to do so. The moderate requirement states that the punishment must be in
proportion to the age, build, health and gender of the child. Corporal punishment by parental authority
can only succeed as a defence if it meets these requirements, as well as having the intention to
discipline or educate the child.
3 1 Arguments against parent s right of chastisement
The harm inflicted on a child when punishing him/her, violates the human rights of the child, which
states that every child should be protected from abuse or degradation in section 28(d) of the
Constitution. Another point of inconsistency the legalisation of corporal punishment in the private
sphere, is set out in section 39(3) of the Constitution that states: The Bill of rights does not deny the
existence of any other rights or freedoms that are recognised or conferred by common law, customary
law or legislation, to the extent that they are consistent with the Bill . The current position of the
private sphere is not in correspondence with the public sphere, even though they both deal with
corporal punishment. Confusion could be raised as

Poland Swot Analysis
Introduction
The following paper will compare and contrast corporate governance in the U.S. and European Union.
Because corporate governance regulations are not yet uniform across all EU countries, we have
chosen to examine Poland in particular. We will first present U.S. corporate governance and the
Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002, and then examine how Poland s corporate governance regulations
compare. Finally, since we have already learned about Corporate Social Responsibility for U.S.
companies, we have examined Corporate Social Responsibility in Poland, looking specifically at the

The hope of this principle is to establish an environment of honesty and accountability by focusing the
board and management on possible areas of ethical risk, as well as establishing protocol for employees
to follow when presented with ethical dilemmas.
The eleventh rule refers to the need of private issuers to disclose any significant difference in
corporate governance practices compared to domestic companies listed under the New York Stock
Exchange (NYSE, 17). This requirement is not made to presume that any country s corporate
governance is better than another. The rule is in place to solely ensure investors are informed of any
significant differences in corporate governance.
Rule twelve is concerned with CEOs certifying annually that their companies are not in violation of
any of the NYSE corporate governance listed standards. The premise of rule twelve, is to ensure that
companies are in compliance with rules one through eleven. This information must also be available
to shareholders and filed with the SEC.
The last rule, thirteen, is aimed at the NYSE itself, and not its listed companies. The rule stipulates
that the NYSE may issue a public reprimand to any listed company that violates a NYSE listing
standard (NYSE, 18). This rule was enacted as a lesser sanction to deter companies from wavering
from listed standards. Without this available recourse, repercussions are suspending trading in and
delisting a listed company. Both are detrimental

Hiv, Or Human Immunodeficiency Virus
Question 1
HIV, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus, attacks the human immune system and greatly weakens the
body s ability to fight foreign invaders and infection. HIV first demanded notice in the early 1980s in
the United States in homosexual men displaying illnesses like Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia and
Kaposi s sarcoma. The disease was soon observed in IV drug users, hemophiliacs, and blood
transfusion recipients, but became publicized as a gay disease, nicknamed by the media as GRID, or
Gay Related Immuno Deficiency. It was later renamed AIDS, or Acquired Immuno Deficiency
Syndrome, in September of 1982. Before the true cause of the disease had been discovered, it had
killed countless people and received immense press coverage, and the infection rate was rampant,
because the cause was unknown and thus no treatment method could be developed.
Finally, in 1983, two separate research teams, lead by Robert Gallo and Luc Montagnier of the Pasteur
Institute in isolated a retrovirus that was the true infectious agent responsible for the development of
AIDS. Gallo s team named the virus HTLV III and Montagnier s team coined it as LAV, or
lymphadenopathy associated virus. Later, it was discovered that the two viruses were exactly the
same; it was renamed as Human Immunodeficiency Virus, and Gallo and Montagnier now share the
credit its discovery.
Although HIV/AIDS wasn t noticed in the United States until the 1980s and didn t have an identified
cause until 1983, the virus and

Mahatma Gandhi Motivation
Motivations
Since he was young, Mahatma Gandhi was influenced heavily by his religious affiliation to
Vaishnavism. His mother was completely immersed in religion and would often alternate between
time at home and time at the temple. Most of his life he had spent in the practice of worshiping
Vishnu, a rigorous moral religion whose main principles promoted nonviolence and universal eternity.
These roots are the main ideas Gandhi adapted into not only his life, but within the movement. This
was further propelled through his experiences in England as a vegetarian, he met several idealists who
rejected the capitalist and industrial society and preached the cult of a simple life and the importance
of moral superiority, as opposed to sustaining materialistic items. These values were essential to
contributing to Gandhi s personality and political views (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2017).
These values and perspectives on life, were soon put to action once he became exposed to the
practising racial discrimination in South Africa. He was asked to take off his turban in the court
magistrate, thrown out of first class because of race, was beaten up by a stagecoach because he would
not travel on the footboard to make room for a European passenger and rejected from several
European only hotels. Which were daily occurrences for Indian labourers and traders within Natal.
Through these first hand experiences Gandhi was witness to the injustice of discrimination and was

The Success Of Euro Disney
1. There were many factors that contributed in the failure in euro Disney on his first years. Bad
management was one of the key factors why this company was not successful at the beginning. One of
the biggest reasons was that the company assumes that everybody in Europe has money and they came
up with really high prices on the tickets, restaurants and hotels. In my understanding one of the biggest
factors that contribute in the poor performance of Euro Disney is that the company did not understand
the marketplace. They assume that if they open a similar park in France it automatically would be
successful. Another factor why Euro Disney was had poor performance was because they in America

Functions Of A Steady State Exercise Essay
Assign 3794
3. Steady state exercise is the activity where we perform while maintaining the same heart and muscle
movements. Steady state exercise affects many body functions. If the steady state exercise performed
for months consistently, it will increase the overall endurance of an individual. The below are the
certain physiological functions affected during steady state:
Cardiac output: The aerobic exercise performed at steady rate causes the body to increase the amount
of blood pumped by the heart. Cardiac output is determined by stroke volume and heart rate. The
Stroke volume is defined as the quantity of blood pumped at each heart beat, while the body going
from rest to steady state exercise. Cardiac output increases rapidly even more gradually until it reaches
a plateau. By that time we develop an increased number of capillaries, greater opening of existing
capillaries, more effective blood redistribution and increased blood volume. Due to this, capillaries
improve the body ability to deliver oxygen and nutrients to muscle and also to remove the waste
products.
Cardiac output is generally calculated by:
Cardiac output = Heart rate * Stroke volume
Blood pressure: The blood pressure of an individual is affected before and after reaching the steady
state. .There is increase in the systolic and diastolic blood pressure during steady state. These increases
in the pressure represent the pressure in arteries. This pressure is while the heart is contracting and

Avoidance Strategies In The Workplace
On the other hand, avoidance strategies are also often adopted as a coping mechanism for bullying. As
Anderson, Labriola, Andersen, Lund, and Hansen (2015) reported victims of bullying remain passive
and seldom ask for help therefore avoidance plays a pivotal role in depression. Depression via
bullying and avoidance coping strategies is reflected in absenteeism levels in the workplace
(McTernan et al., 2013) The study by Ortega et al. (2011) found that the risk of long term absence was
higher for those exposed to bullying than for those not bullied. Victims of workplace bullying may
adopt an avoidance strategy as a coping mechanism to escape the bully, by not attending work they
avoid being bullied (Casimir et al., 2012). An avoidance strategy ... Show more content on

Workplace bullying is a negative event and the interplay between such behaviour and the
environment, namely negative and positive reinforcement, and negative and positive punishment,
contributes to the development of depression (Kanter et al., 2008). The use of learned helplessness as
an avoidance strategy is a further learning theory that reinforces behaviour by providing negative
reinforcement which exacerbates and maintains depression (Cribb et al., 2006). Furthermore, using
avoidance strategies such as absenteeism instead of coping with the event may cause victims to
complain to others to receive sympathy and this positive reinforcement again exacerbates and
maintains depression (Ramnero et al., 2016). Social observational learning further contributes to
developing low self esteem and inadequate social skills which are risk factors of depression (Andersen
et al., 2015), In addition, social observation learning through vicarious learning is a risk factor to
developing depressive symptoms as witnessing hostile events may induce strong emotional responses
(Bandura Richard, 1977). Rumination, as an adjunct behaviour in depression positively reinforces
behaviour and predicts the length and severity of depression (Kanter et al., 2008). In sum, this paper
has discussed how types of operant learning theories and social observational learning may explain
how depression develops as a consequence of experiencing workplace bullying. As reported by
Ramnero et al. (2016) implications of considering a learning theory approach to depression includes
the development of clinical treatment strategies that understand the antecedents and consequences of
behaviour as well as the biological and cognitive

5-Htpr Case Study
Question: Does 5 HTTLPR moderate the effect it has on stressful life events (victimization)
differently depending on gender?
Importance: In Benjet et al. s study (2010), the investigators state that the results of the interaction of
the 5 HTTLPR and environmental variables for adolescent boys have been inconsistent. The research
on adolescent girls though has been the opposite, as results have been more definitive. Since there
have been inconsistencies in the literature for adolescent boys between the moderation of 5 HTTLPR
and other factors, there is a need for more research to be done on this group of children to better
understand how depression symptoms are developed on boys and to investigate whether adolescent
boys that have 2 short alleles (s/s) have a genetic vulnerability like their female counterparts do. This
would also help in creating preventative measures for male adolescents if they do have this genetic
vulnerability and if they do not, maybe there is some other factor that could be moderating depression
on adolescent boys more than adolescent girls.
Answer: I do not think that 5 HTTLPR has different moderating effects because if it did, there should
be more conclusive results. What I think could be driving these inconsistencies is social stigma.

to established rules and principles; based on the principle that a person cannot be deprived of life or

American Government (9th Edition). Ohio: Strayed University.) The origin of due process is generally

A trial in which the judge allows illegally seized evidence to be used, or in which the defendant has no
access to an attorney, is forced to testify against himself, or is denied the ability to bring witnesses
favorable to his cause, is not a trial that meets the standard of due process of law. The men who
drafted the Bill of Rights knew this, not only from their experience during the Colonial era, but also
from the history of Great Britain, which ever since the signing of the Magna Carta in 1215 had been
committed to expanding the rule of law. Today we tend to emphasize the relationship of rights to
individual liberty, but even those rights which are most identified as individual such as the rights of
persons accused of crimes still have a community basis. Rights in American history are not designed
to free the individual from community norms; rather, they exist to promote a responsible liberty, to
allow each and every one to be free from arbitrary power. In the areas of free expression, the Bill of
Rights carves out a space where dissenting voices may be freely heard, both for the benefit of the
individual as well as for the sake of the community. Rights of any kind are the community s protection
against the unwarranted interference in daily life by an all powerful central government. Rights
liberate both the community and the individual. Regarding the rights of the accused, the

What if I never saw the movie Jaws? Would I still feel the same way about sharks and the ocean?
These are some of the questions I feel a lot of people can ask themselves after they have seen Jaws.
What does this mean? Can the shark in Jaws represent or symbolize something more than just being a

I remember watching Jaws as a kid, as you can imagine I was pretty scared. I think I was eleven at the

The story would be from the sharks point of view. The shark who has been separated from his family
and friends very young, is looking for a friend or companionship. And since there are no other sharks
around he finds a beach with strange creatures on it that are swimming in the water. But every time he
gets close to try and interact with one of the humans his eyes go black and he attacks them ferociously.
After the water has settled he awakens from his blackout only to see red water and people screaming.
He has no idea what happened and is just as scared as everyone else. It is a story of self realization.
That way you could still have that fear element but every once and a while throw in a joke or have a
funny scene among the chaos. I also think I would represent the police chief as the villain. Like most
live performances lighting would be a key factor. For underwater scenes a blue light with of ocean
props would be shown. The town would also be a dark and dreary place to live. The beach is the only
beautiful part of the town which is why people are drawn to it even though people keep dying. The
only thing I can t make my mind up about is whether or not the shark would look realistic or a man in
a shark suit. Overall I would focus heavily on the emotional struggle of a shark who just wants to have
a friend but keeps eating them. And a police chief who want nothing more in life but to kill the

Personality And Theory Of Personality Essay
Personality Examined
Personality is deeply complexing subject that cannot be easily summed up. There is no concrete right
answer, or only one way to evaluate any given subject, as every aspect of personality has more than
one view point or angle. Famous psychologists such as Freud, Adler, Jung, Erickson, Eysenck, and
Skinner all shaped and conducted the research that would come together and be taught to generations
as the foundations of personality and the theory of personality. To better understand the idea of
personality, we are going to examine the six different cornerstones of personality. They consist of
Nature versus Nurture, The Unconscious, You of the Self, Development, Motivation and Maturation.
In this, no one theory is more valid than the other, and no one research has more validity than the
other. In this paper each cornerstone will be examined using scholarly research.
Foundations of Personality
Nature Versus Nurture Before the concept of nature versus nurture can be broken down and examined,
first there must be a proper understanding of both terms. In context of nature versus nurture, nature
refers to a person s biological factors, such as the hereditary factors passed down from the genes of
their birth parents. Whereas nurture refers to an individual s personal experience and environment that
shapes them into who they are, and gave them a form of identity. Montag et al (2016), work suggests

  • 2. Paraphilic Behavior I believe that there is no way to definitively explain how people become interested in certain sexual desires, although an argument can be made for those who were sexually exploited as a child, which I will also discuss. I think that people are constantly evolving, and as we change through the years, our sexual interests and desires change as well. Things that we liked as children we have a tendency to outgrow as adults, to expect that we will have the same desires at age 40 that we did at age 20 is naive. Things we believe in and lifelong friends we have may be a constant in our lives, but most things have a propensity to evolve. Therefore, you have to ask yourself why sexuality would not be one of the things to evolve as well. People have long debated that most sexual preferences are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I found that one might have a paraphilia that is necessary for sexual satisfaction (i.e. submission or bondage) and their not at all interested in sex if it does not involve this paraphilia. At the same time, one might have a paraphilic behavior but it is not necessary all the time for sexual satisfaction. They may only engage in this behavior occasionally and may have many other sexual interests. I am leaning toward one developing a paraphilia due to a habit they had early in life that may not have been of a sexual nature but when being repeatedly associated with the activity they become sexually aroused because it was pleasurable. On the other hand, exposure at an early age to inappropriate sexual behavior a child will learn to mimic the behavior, they become conditioned to enjoy the behavior and therefore see it as normal. Since they were deprived of normal sexual contact, they continue to seek gratification through less acceptable ways. This differs from paraphilic behavior because it becomes a disorder due to a child being unable to give ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Bioliographic Information on Slavery and Colonial Rule in... Bibliographic Information: Klein, Martin A., Slavery And Colonial Rule in French West Africa, 1998, Cambridge University Press The book bears importance in being one of the few studies about domestic slavery within the French West Africa. It contributes to the field of study, by elaborating on the importance of slavery in Senegal, Sudan and Guinea in Africa s development. The period of the study lies from 1876 to 1922, wherein Klein ultimately shows the evolution of slavery. In the years prior to 1876, Klein argued that slavery had an economic and social significance in societies. There are two themes which form a major part of the book. They include: the conflict between the French in the metropole and the French in Africa; and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the social taboo of being an ex slave (or of slave heritage), there are ex slaves who are afraid to mention their backgrounds to Klein. This obviously leads to a limitation of evidence, which perhaps makes it difficult for the reader to form an idea on what slavery was fully like. Despite this, Klein shows admiration for those of slave backgrounds in portraying them as being spurred on by past oppressions, to achieve a better life than those with master backgrounds. To further his arguments, Klein uses secondary sources as a basis to criticize traditional arguments. Apart from the deep historical analysis and the descriptive historical events (which aid in backing up Klein s knowledge and deep research in the field), the book s structure is significant. In terms of illustrations, Klein uses maps, figures and pictures. Maps are an essential part of the book in providing vivid ideas on where battles occurred or which societies were based where. In this case, his writings and the maps form a symbiotic relationship, in that the reader can understand the context through the use of maps and his writing (clear up properly). Each chapter is structured in a way that allows the reader to navigate around the chapter and read the relevant information. All chapters include an introductory section (aimed at outlining the key points of the chapter in question) and a conclusion (aimed at summarising and tying together the ... • 4. History Of Development Of The Two Year College The history of the development of the two year college as presented by Cohen and Brawer (1987, 2003), Dougherty (1994), Townsend and Twombly (2001), and Hutcheson (1999) indicates that most two year institutions started out as junior colleges, providing the first two years of a bachelor s degree for those living in rural areas without nearby universities and a chance to explore options for those who were undecided about their careers. From the first community college established in 1901 in Joliet, Illinois (Dougherty 1994), the number of community colleges across the United States multiplied until the 1980s. After World War II the GI Bill of Rights promised returning veterans access to higher education. In the 1960s the Johnson Administration used the community college as a key weapon in its War On Poverty, supporting growth to the extent that by late in the decade, a new community college opened every week (Nystrand and Duffy 10). With the Center for Educational Statistics showing enrollments of over 2.1 million students in 654 community colleges as of 1970, more students were beginning their college careers at two year community colleges than at their four year counterparts, and by 1980 more than 4.5 million students were enrolled in community colleges (Brint and Karabel 198). Local school and other government officials were motivated to support the establishment of community colleges to meet the needs of business, the demands of families for affordable ... • 7. Is Affirmative Action Necessary Schools across America are being prosecuted and praised for their use of Affirmative Action. But what is Affirmative Action? It is an admissions policy that sets aside a specific amount of spots for students of different races or ethnic backgrounds. It was first decided to use Affirmative Action by the Supreme Court nearly 40 years ago. Many colleges across America use Affirmative Action, but not everybody thinks of it as a positive thing. Affirmative Action is a necessary part of society because it ensures a diverse student body, it gives opportunities to underprivileged kids, and it promotes education and work. Every college strives for a diverse group of students to attend their school and Affirmative Action is one of the only ways to ensure this. When students with different backgrounds come together, they grow and learn from each other. According to Justice Lewis F. Functionalists describe society using an organic analogy; they say society is like a biological organism. Parsons found three similarities between society and an organism. System organisms such as the human body and society are both self regulating and inter related, independent parts fit together in fixed ways. In the body these are organs; in society they are institutions, such as family and education. Both organisms have system needs for example an organism needs nutrition without which it would die. Social systems have basic needs for example members of society need to be socialised. Both society and organisms function to contribute to meeting the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Parsons describes adaption and goal attainment as instrumental needs, to the means to an end, such as producing food to sustain the population. He describes integration and latency as expressive needs as they involve channelling emotions. By carrying out their respective functions the four sub systems ensure that society s needs are met and social stability maintained. Parsons identified two types of society, traditional and modern. Each type has its own typical pattern of norms. Within each type the variables fit together, for example in modern society students are expected to pursue their own self interests, achieved status through efforts in education, attained through deferred gratification. They are all judged by the universal standard of exams. Contrastingly in traditional society an individual s status is ascribed at birth and they re expected to put their kinships interest before their own, called collective orientation. Parsons argues change is a gradual, evolutionary process of increasing complexity and structural differentiation. The organic analogy is relevant here. Organisms have evolved from simple structures to complex organisms with different parts performing its own specialised function. Similarly societies move from simple to complex structures. For example in traditional society a single institution, the kinship system, performs many functions. It organises production and consumption, provides political leadership, socialises members and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The unemployment rates for Whites are 4.5 percent, which is lower than the national average. But sadly the unemployment rates for minorities are much higher. According to bls.gov the rate for unemployment for African Americans is 8.3 percent; although this number is the lowest it has been since 2007, theirs is still higher than the national average. The unemployment rate for Mexican Americans (Hispanics) is 6.3 percent and for Asian Americans is 4.0 percent. This shows that overall African Americans still have higher unemployment than every other demographic since December 2016. The unemployment rate is measured by a division of the Department of Labor known as the Bureau of Labor Statistics (bls.gov). This government agency conducts a monthly survey called the Current Population Survey that involves 60,000 households. These households are selected using random sampling methods designed to generate as close an approximation as possible to the larger population. Myself and a few other friends were at the bowling alley in Glenwood Iowa, for no specific reason, just to have a good time with each other. It was the middle of summer and who knew this was going to be one of the scariest nights of our lives. It s your turn to bowl! Alyx exclaimed to me. As I went up to bowl, I grabbed my lucky ball and rolled it down the path like a slippery snake, STRIKE! Right after I had gotten my strike, the bowling alley got a telephone call saying there was a shooting nearby in town. Everyone got a little panicked, but we continued with our fun night of bowling. Kamryn, Kennedy and Tommy all bowled and got their scores. It was starting to get darker outside when all of a sudden we heard gunshots outside of the building, just as loud as when you hear an airplane taking off. The gunshots were one right after another, 4 in a row. *boom boom boom boom* they went in the air. The moderate requirement states that the punishment must be in proportion to the age, build, health and gender of the child. • 27. Mahatma Gandhi Motivation Motivations Since he was young, Mahatma Gandhi was influenced heavily by his religious affiliation to Vaishnavism. His mother was completely immersed in religion and would often alternate between time at home and time at the temple. Most of his life he had spent in the practice of worshiping Vishnu, a rigorous moral religion whose main principles promoted nonviolence and universal eternity. These roots are the main ideas Gandhi adapted into not only his life, but within the movement. This was further propelled through his experiences in England as a vegetarian, he met several idealists who rejected the capitalist and industrial society and preached the cult of a simple life and the importance of moral superiority, as opposed to sustaining materialistic items. These values were essential to contributing to Gandhi s personality and political views (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2017). These values and perspectives on life, were soon put to action once he became exposed to the practising racial discrimination in South Africa. He was asked to take off his turban in the court magistrate, thrown out of first class because of race, was beaten up by a stagecoach because he would not travel on the footboard to make room for a European passenger and rejected from several European only hotels. Which were daily occurrences for Indian labourers and traders within Natal. Bad management was one of the key factors why this company was not successful at the beginning. One of the biggest reasons was that the company assumes that everybody in Europe has money and they came up with really high prices on the tickets, restaurants and hotels. In my understanding one of the biggest factors that contribute in the poor performance of Euro Disney is that the company did not understand the marketplace. • 30. Functions Of A Steady State Exercise Essay Assign 3794 3. Steady state exercise is the activity where we perform while maintaining the same heart and muscle movements. Steady state exercise affects many body functions. If the steady state exercise performed for months consistently, it will increase the overall endurance of an individual. The below are the certain physiological functions affected during steady state: Cardiac output: The aerobic exercise performed at steady rate causes the body to increase the amount of blood pumped by the heart. Cardiac output is determined by stroke volume and heart rate. The Stroke volume is defined as the quantity of blood pumped at each heart beat, while the body going from rest to steady state exercise. Cardiac output increases rapidly even more gradually until it reaches a plateau. By that time we develop an increased number of capillaries, greater opening of existing capillaries, more effective blood redistribution and increased blood volume. Due to this, capillaries improve the body ability to deliver oxygen and nutrients to muscle and also to remove the waste products. Cardiac output is generally calculated by: Cardiac output = Heart rate * Stroke volume Blood pressure: The blood pressure of an individual is affected before and after reaching the steady state. .There is increase in the systolic and diastolic blood pressure during steady state. These increases in the pressure represent the pressure in arteries. This pressure is while the heart is contracting and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As Anderson, Labriola, Andersen, Lund, and Hansen (2015) reported victims of bullying remain passive and seldom ask for help therefore avoidance plays a pivotal role in depression. Depression via bullying and avoidance coping strategies is reflected in absenteeism levels in the workplace (McTernan et al., 2013) The study by Ortega et al. (2011) found that the risk of long term absence was higher for those exposed to bullying than for those not bullied. Victims of workplace bullying may adopt an avoidance strategy as a coping mechanism to escape the bully, by not attending work they avoid being bullied (Casimir et al., 2012). An avoidance strategy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Workplace bullying is a negative event and the interplay between such behaviour and the environment, namely negative and positive reinforcement, and negative and positive punishment, contributes to the development of depression (Kanter et al., 2008). The use of learned helplessness as an avoidance strategy is a further learning theory that reinforces behaviour by providing negative reinforcement which exacerbates and maintains depression (Cribb et al., 2006). Furthermore, using avoidance strategies such as absenteeism instead of coping with the event may cause victims to complain to others to receive sympathy and this positive reinforcement again exacerbates and maintains depression (Ramnero et al., 2016). Social observational learning further contributes to developing low self esteem and inadequate social skills which are risk factors of depression (Andersen et al., 2015), In addition, social observation learning through vicarious learning is a risk factor to developing depressive symptoms as witnessing hostile events may induce strong emotional responses (Bandura Richard, 1977). Rumination, as an adjunct behaviour in depression positively reinforces behaviour and predicts the length and severity of depression (Kanter et al., 2008). In sum, this paper has discussed how types of operant learning theories and social observational learning may explain how depression develops as a consequence of experiencing workplace bullying. As reported by Ramnero et al. (2016) implications of considering a learning theory approach to depression includes the development of clinical treatment strategies that understand the antecedents and consequences of behaviour as well as the biological and cognitive ... Importance: In Benjet et al. s study (2010), the investigators state that the results of the interaction of the 5 HTTLPR and environmental variables for adolescent boys have been inconsistent. The research on adolescent girls though has been the opposite, as results have been more definitive. Since there have been inconsistencies in the literature for adolescent boys between the moderation of 5 HTTLPR and other factors, there is a need for more research to be done on this group of children to better understand how depression symptoms are developed on boys and to investigate whether adolescent boys that have 2 short alleles (s/s) have a genetic vulnerability like their female counterparts do. This would also help in creating preventative measures for male adolescents if they do have this genetic vulnerability and if they do not, maybe there is some other factor that could be moderating depression on adolescent boys more than adolescent girls. A trial in which the judge allows illegally seized evidence to be used, or in which the defendant has no access to an attorney, is forced to testify against himself, or is denied the ability to bring witnesses favorable to his cause, is not a trial that meets the standard of due process of law. The men who drafted the Bill of Rights knew this, not only from their experience during the Colonial era, but also from the history of Great Britain, which ever since the signing of the Magna Carta in 1215 had been committed to expanding the rule of law. Today we tend to emphasize the relationship of rights to individual liberty, but even those rights which are most identified as individual such as the rights of persons accused of crimes still have a community basis. Rights in American history are not designed to free the individual from community norms; rather, they exist to promote a responsible liberty, to allow each and every one to be free from arbitrary power. In the areas of free expression, the Bill of Rights carves out a space where dissenting voices may be freely heard, both for the benefit of the individual as well as for the sake of the community. Can the shark in Jaws represent or symbolize something more than just being a hungry shark? I remember watching Jaws as a kid, as you can imagine I was pretty scared. But every time he gets close to try and interact with one of the humans his eyes go black and he attacks them ferociously. After the water has settled he awakens from his blackout only to see red water and people screaming. He has no idea what happened and is just as scared as everyone else. It is a story of self realization. That way you could still have that fear element but every once and a while throw in a joke or have a funny scene among the chaos. I also think I would represent the police chief as the villain. Like most live performances lighting would be a key factor. For underwater scenes a blue light with of ocean props would be shown. The town would also be a dark and dreary place to live. The beach is the only beautiful part of the town which is why people are drawn to it even though people keep dying. There is no concrete right answer, or only one way to evaluate any given subject, as every aspect of personality has more than one view point or angle. Famous psychologists such as Freud, Adler, Jung, Erickson, Eysenck, and Skinner all shaped and conducted the research that would come together and be taught to generations as the foundations of personality and the theory of personality. To better understand the idea of personality, we are going to examine the six different cornerstones of personality.
