However, the plot instigated by women is still rooted in malicious intent, showing the stereotypes of women remained even if they had some power over men in the narrative.

The Curious Tale Of The Typewriter Bone To Type, Shoot Straight, AndLisa Brown
The relationship between Mesopotamian and Greek gods and the humans who worshipped them differed in key ways. The Mesopotamians viewed their gods with respect, seeing them as nurturing figures. The gods interacted with humans in a restrained manner. In contrast, the Greeks viewed their gods with fear, as the gods were more brash in their dealings with humans. These differing relationships are evident when examining ancient texts like the Epic of Gilgamesh and Homer's Iliad, which provide insights into the religious customs and traditions of these early civilizations.

The document discusses creating an authoring system for live electronic music performances that simplifies the compositional workflow and aids in performance. It proposes extending common Western music notation to represent the underlying logic and electronic parts. This would involve developing an authoring/performance technology environment to represent and execute the logical layer of pieces, allowing composers to create live electronic works and evaluate the system. The goal is to integrate this new notation organically with traditional music interpretation while using common Western notation as the main descriptor due to its widespread use among composers.

2. The Benefits of Organic Foods
Benefits of Organic Foods
Introduction:
In spite of the fact that organic foods have been proved to have a better effect on people s health in
comparison to conventional foods served in supermarkets, the fact that people continue to buy their
food without expressing interest in its provenience makes it possible for one to understand that the
masses have failed to comprehend the full complexity of the problem at hand. People need to
understand that the You are what you eat expression applies perfectly in their case and that it is
essential for them to get actively involved in creating lifestyles that reflect positively on their health.
Even with this, I have trouble determining whether or not organic foods are actually very important
when considering nutrition.
Body:
Organic foods from a global perspective dealing with profits and trends
Recent advancements in the medical world have made it possible for the masses to resort to taking
medicine whenever they feel ill. As a consequence, people came to consider that pills are the answer
to unhealthy diets and that they thus no longer require buying organic foods in order to live healthier.
It is thus essential to determine whether it would be more effective for individuals to stick to
traditional foods sold in non specialized shops or if it would be better for them to focus on consuming
organic foods only.
Individuals in the contemporary society follow a trend by expressing interest in buying organic foods

3. Ludwig Van Beethoven s Life
Ludwig van Beethoven Ludwig van Beethoven was a tremendous musician and composer with a
awfully long and tough life.He had a challenging childhood, but he used his music as his outlet. He
moved from his home town in Bonn, which is now a museum, and became well known throughout the
world. He lived in Europe when everything was changing, there were a lot of new wars and new
rulers. He used a great deal of emotions in this music and because of all the time that he had spent
practicing, when his hearing was lost his music was still considered to be incredible. People from his
time and the present time see him as a genius. Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany approximately
in December of 1770.There is no recorded date of Beethoven s exact birth, but it is known that it is in
December. This was an appropriate time for Beethoven to be born, it was receptive and ready to
welcome a genius who would change everything. His parents produced seven children, but only four
of them lived to adulthood. Only Ludwig and his two younger brothers remained. In school it is said
that he was a shy, taciturn, serious young man. That he was enclosed in himself and extremely peevish
with people (Marek 39). School turned out to not be so clear for young Beethoven as he chose to drop
out when he was eleven, this resulted in him never learning to spell, do math, or write well. Although,
he did learn French, Latin, and Italian. This was around 1780 and was when he began to compose
pieces, one of

The Downfall of the U.S. Auto Market and the Collapse of the Economy Unemployment is rising and
the entire global economy is falling. The story has become all too common. If there is a negative
direction available to follow, we re definitely taking advantage of the opportunity. Americans became
too accustomed to the period of inflation through the 1990s, and the ongoing recession is affecting
most everyone. The Big Three automakers (GM, Ford and Chrysler) have made massive cuts to their
workforces, and the entire national job market has been upended. My personal life has been greatly
distorted due to these events, after Delphi (contracted by GM) outsourced most of their jobs and shut

In 2008 and 2009, a series of bailouts were provided to General Motors and Chrysler, due to slowing
car sales and massive quarterly losses. Unions buckled due to the fact that they received much higher
wages, and more luxurious benefits than their non unionized counterparts. In 2006, Consumer Reports
top ten car picks were Japanese (Noe). Parts makers were quick to move jobs overseas, where laborers
were willing to work for much less money. In 2008, GM closed 14 factories, 2,000 dealers, and cut
47,000 employees. All of these factors, among numerous more, were responsible for the collapse of
the economy on a national and global scale. Gasoline prices soared during the energy crisis which
lasted from 2003 2008. Consumers moved from buying SUV s and trucks to more fuel efficient cars,
such as hybrids. This was especially disconcerting considering that these larger vehicles were the most
profitable for the automakers (MSNBC). The market which was hardest hit was that of the parts
makers, which saw their cash flow cut in half, since automakers were rushing to cut production
(Economist). GM filed for bankruptcy 32 days after Chrysler, effectively making GM the fourth
largest company ever to file for bankruptcy (Carty). According to Darwin Bible, probably one of the
worst things about it has been watching all the stress on workers faces and their families faces (Carty).

5. Isolation, Loneliness And Symbolism In Hands, By Sherwood...
Symbolism is very crucial in literature, especially in short fiction. In the short story Hands, by
Sherwood Anderson, Anderson gives a perfect example of symbolism. In the story Hands, Anderson
uses symbolism of the hands of Wing Biddlebaum to show the meaning of the story. Anderson
explores the theme of isolation and loneliness, through the symbolization of Wing s hands. By
Anderson writing Hands is showing how the protagonist hands symbolizes the many ways of him
feeling isolated and lonely in Ohio. The main character, Wing Biddlebaum, formally known as Adolph

How BFI Meets the Requirements of Health Promotion
The main focus of the Baby Friendly Initiative strategy is to promote successful breastfeeding and
support the mother through out the process (Pound Unger, 2017). This strategy encourages mothers to
breastfeed for at least up to 6 months (Pound Unger, 2017). This is accomplished by teaching mothers
about the importance of breastfeeding, advantages and disadvantages of breastfeeding and proper
breastfeeding techniques (Pound Unger, 2017). The educating process in the BFI starts from

One of them is disagreement regarding the valid use of 10 Step process (Cadwell Turner Maffei,
2004). Prenatal teaching programs have limited number of staff to provide teaching prenatal teaching
(Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). Immediate Postpartum assessments have become a priority before
breastfeeding (Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). This is preventing the BFI focus of mother and baby
bonding and breastfeeding right after birth, because important that the mother and the baby bonds for
the first hour after birth (BCC, 2012). The health care workers have limited time with each patient,
due to this reason conducting assessment and patient teaching is limited (Cadwell Turner Maffei,
2004). Patient s misconceptions about complications of breastfeeding may discourage them from
accessing the BFI program (Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). Different cultural practises can dis courage
mother from accessing or following the BFI (Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). Patient unknowing about
the BFI or other services can prevent them from accessing the program or from seeking support
(Cadwell Turner Maffei, 2004). Women who live in rural areas in third world countries, where they
have no access to medical assistance have a lower chance of accessing the BFI program (Penwell,
2010). Women who choose to free birth or unassisted birth at home have a lower chance of accessing
or participating in the BFI program (India Parenting, 2016).
Evidence of Effectiveness
Many studies were done to identify the effectiveness of the Baby friendly Initiative practise around the
world. One of the research shows that 87.3 % to 89% of mothers are breastfeeding and the Baby

The values at risk in Anthem are not merely those of the central luminary; they are the ostensible
values of an entire civilization our own. Our society is founded upon the notion of individual rights;
its existence, as Ayn Rand depicts, cannot be conceived on any other grounds. Anthem, Rand s
dystopian novella, is about us, and about what will happen if we do not follow alongside Equality 7
2521 and Liberty 5 3000 in their discovery of the importance of individualism.
Rand intends Equality s name to be a misnomer, since we know that he is far superior to his peers and

One of the expounding stories of Western culture is a central theme of Ayn Rand s Anthem the myth of
Prometheus. In Prometheus the Greek Titan and Equality s epics, both bring some kind of fire down

and developed electricity and the light bulb. Though what they did was paramount, both were

Upon discovering the nature of selfhood and the many texts in the house of the Unmentionable Times,

enslaved by gods, kings, kin, and by race, but that he later broke free from all of their chains (101).
And in doing so, [Prometheus] declare[s] to all his brothers that a man has rights which neither god
nor king nor any other man can take away from him...for his is the right of man, and there is no right
on earth above this right (101 2). He selects the name of a god who taught men to be gods, gave them

9. Essay Of Inflammation
When injury occurs, the body goes through different phases in order to complete its recovery, each
phase has a specific job with the intention of preparing the body for the next phase of recovery. The
phases that the body goes through are; the bleeding phase, the inflammatory phase, the proliferation
phase and the remodelling phase, each of these phases happen at a specific time within the recovery
after the injury. The phase that this essay is going to look at is the inflammatory phase and what role
the inflammation has in tissue healing whilst briefly discussing what impacts it will have in a clinical
setting.

The neutrophils are attracted by fibronectine and growth factors which leads to them performing their
role of phagocytosis. Phagocytosis allows the neutrophils to engulf all the debris and bacteria that are
in and surround the site therefore getting rid of foreign particles and allow a clean environment for the
inflammation to being to happen. As a result of the phagocytosis happening this then leads to
macrophages replacing neutrophils which come from immature monocytes which are stored in spleen,
they secrete growth factors and cytokines which lead onto the next phase of the healing response
which is the proliferation phase (Frederic H. Martni, Judi L. Natch, Edwin F. Bartholomew, 2014).
The role of inflammation in tissue healing is to help to promote healing and create an environment
around the injured area that is optimal for the best healing time and for the best healing process to take
place. In order to complete this the body must remain in a balanced homeostasis, this being a level at
which the bodies temperature, blood pH and water balance are constant. Remaining at a balanced
homeostasis will mean that the inflammatory response is able to work effectively as it has the right
conditions in which to perform at its

10. Compare And Contrast Caged Bird And Sympathy
In the poem, Caged Bird , by Maya Angelou, and the poem Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar, the
authors exemplify feelings of those being discriminated against in the actions and feelings of the birds.
The poets make contrasting and comparable stories, that relate in many ways and also contrast in
hidden but most important ways as well. The birds in the poems add morals and meaning by being so
alike and yet so different. The two authors description of the bird resemble one another. In the Caged
Bird , Maya Angelou discusses the state in which the Caged Bird is in. His wings are clipped and his
feet are tied (Angelou, 12,13). The Cage Bird in the is in pain and restrained from the freedom he
longs for. In Sympathy , Dunbar describes the Caged Bird in a very similar state. When his wings is
bruised and his bosom sore (Dunbar, 16). The bruising of the bird symbolizes physical restrainment,
but not mental. In both of the author s writing, Caged Bird is described in very similar manners; This

The world is constantly becoming smaller and smaller as time progresses. A process of globalization is
rapidly turning the world as we know it into economic opportunity waiting to be exploited. A large
factor in this process is due to the advent of technology which is becoming more and more readily
available to lesser developed countries. Countries such as Jamaica and other LDC s are primary targets

globalization has on Jamaican culture, industry, and agriculture.

used to produce 3,000 quarts per day and after America subsidized the milk industry, dairy farms were

12. How Class Antagonisms Influence Life Online
How Class Antagonisms Influence Life Online In S. Craig Watkins essay, From The Young and the
Digital, he examines how class variances influence social networking usage according to modern day
times. With technology usage at an all time high, social media usage is sparking in popularity making
communication become more virtual than it has ever been. Many predicted that with this shift from
real face time to virtual face time, existing social inequalities would dissipate. However, this is not the
case. Watkins, a professor of radio, television, and film, suggests that a divide exists between both
race and class on social networking sites that parallels real world divides in social inequalities.

Since high levels of education are often associated with higher levels of employment and income and,
in turn, are directly correlated with social class, lower class is linked to Myspace.
Watkins reasoned that social networking site preference relates to preservation of social class and
privilege. The way college students distinguish between social classes simply imitates the way they
distinguish social networking sites. It enables middle class cultures to not only reinforce their position
of privilege and taste, but also their social status, all through the use of specific social networking
sites. Watkins also suggests that the shift from Myspace to
Facebook it is directly correlated to a search for homogeneous people. It is natural human nature to
associate with like minded people. This has become ordinary in geographic sorting where the vast
majority of people choose to live with similar people who do not challenge their ethnic or social
prospects. Since social divisions of race, lifestyle, and ideology are already a commonplace, Watkins
suggests that social network sites are not to blame for causing these divisions. He states:
The vast majority of young people we meet go online to have fun by sharing their lives and
communicating with their peers. And yet, the choices they make regarding who they interact with
online are not immune to the social forces that are shaping their off line lives. Like the Big Sort, the

14. Literary Analysis Essay On The Secret Life Of Bees
A Feminist Perspective on The Secret Life of Bees
I m tired of carrying around the weight of the world. I m just going to lay it down now. It s my time to
die, and it s your time to live. Don t mess it up (210). Feminist theory is an extension of feminism in
which literary pieces are examined to understand the nature of gender inequality and social norms.
Sue Monk Kidd s The Secret Life of Bees examined through a feminist lens demonstrates the
patriarchy found in Owens household, shows the advantages of all female community, distinguish that
mothers play a major factor in any young female s life, and the variety of roles women take on in the
community.

A beekeeper is a person who keeps and raises honey bees to harvest the honey for product to sell.
Traditionally, beekeepers tend to be men for the consequences that come with the practice such as
consist stings and the messy job of collecting and purifying the honey. But, in the novel, August is
portrayed as the best beekeeper around. Nobody around here had ever seen a lady beekeeper till her.
She liked to tell everybody that women made the best beekeepers, cause they have a special ability
built into them to love creatures that sting. It comes from years of loving children and husbands (80).
She takes on the career of a man and becomes distinguished from the rest because of her excellence in
her career. The Boatwright s believed that women made the best beekeepers cause they have a special

beekeeping, she also is the head preacher, a minister of sorts, in the Daughters of Mary church that she

16. Improving Sports At School Time
Many parents put special emphasis on learning math and natural science for their children than paying
attention to the importance of physical education. Even public schools do not allocate enough time for
kids to practice sports as much as they do for class based education. In fact, physical activity for
children is not only about pleasure time. Rather, it helps grown up children to extend their capacity to
grasp concepts explained in their classes. Children who are active while doing physical activity are
expected to be active at class time. Thus, encouraging sports at school time is essential for child
development not only for educational success but also for physical, social, mental, and moral
development(Griffin , 1998). Physical education helps kids to develop in many areas. Sports that
require collaboration between players can help them to grasp the importance of being a part of group
and how it is important to unify their effort with others to achieve certain goals. When it comes to
moral development, children will learn to accept that there are always winners and losers and it s not
wrong to be a loser. Moreover, since all kind of sports include competition, kids will have the chance
to be physically developed in an exciting atmosphere. All these benefits will positively affect students
outcome when they return to class. Therefore, public schools should consider physical activity as a
crucial component of their educational objectives(.Janssen and

17. Applying Operant Conditioning to Human Behaviour Essay
Applying Operant Conditioning to Human Behaviour
Operant conditioning is when a way of learning by consequence. To put it basic, an action which is
rewarded is more likely to be repeated, along with an action that is punished is less likely to be
repeated. To apply this to an example of human behaviour, young children may have shaped behaviour
due to operant conditioning; where desireable behaviour is rewarded (e.g. by giving a toy) the
behaviour is being positively reinforced and is likely to occur. If a young child behaves in an
undesirable way, then they may be punished (e.g. a toy being taken away from them) therefore this
behaviour is negatively reinforced and is less likely to reoccur. ... Show more content on

Observational learning is seeing what happens to other people and whether they are rewarded for their
behaviours, or punished for their behaviours. The imitative side to this is repeating the desirable
behaviour which was observed, or avoid repeating the undesirable behaviour. E.g. Kevin is walking
down a street and sees a gentleman drop his wallet on the floor without knowing. Somebody then
quickly picks up the wallet and runs and gives the gentleman the wallet, who then offers to buy the
person a drink for their help. This is a reward for the person, and Kevin would recognize this, and
learn from the occasion, even though Kevin was not directly reinforced. This is known as Vicarious
reinforcement, which is observing somebody else. However, if the behaviour of the person was
undesirable, such as they picked up the wallet and ran away, then Kevin is likely to see this as a lead
to punishment rather than reinforcement, and because of this, is less likely to imitate the behaviour.
Observational learning takes place around models, and the model in the example was the person who
picked up the wallet. The differences between Observational, Imitation learning, and the operant and
classical conditioning learning, is that operant and classical only relate to the single organism and its
responses

Her golden hair is like the sun, and her eyes are gray glittering stars. You do not look anything like

During this invasion, Israel declared southern Lebanon as a security zone. During these attacks, there

Living with constant pain can be debilitating and it can be a huge detriment in one s life. Chronic pain
can impair an individual s ability to participate in almost every day life regimes. Research has shown
that chronic pain negatively impacts an individual s ability to maintain social connections (Lennon,
Link, Marbach, Dohrenwend, 1989), employment and ability to undertake activities of daily living
(Andersson, 1999). Chronic pain is significantly related to a range of mental health difficulties, as well

Intelligence plus character that is the goal of true education . The key here is to educate the doctors

a method that was established for the purpose of enabling health care professionals to pass on their

22. The Pros And Cons Of Kerosene And Gasoline
Kerosene and Gasoline are energy sourcing fuels that are distilled from crude oil. Crude oil is raw
material consisting of many hydrocarbons, particularly 84 87% of carbon, 12 14% of hydrogen,
oxygen, nitrogen and sulphur (1 2%) (Simanzhenkov, 2003 ) Page 4. It s formed from fossil remains
obtained from reservoir s thousands of feet below the ground. There are 3 main groups of
hydrocarbons; paraffinic, naphthenic and aromatic hydrocarbons. The paraffinic series of
hydrocarbons have the general formula CnH(2n+2) and can be either be straight chains or branched
chains of carbon atoms. Naphthenic hydrocarbons have the formula CnH2n, with all bonds from
carbon to hydrogen being saturated. Naphthenic hydrocarbons are moderately stable compounds.
Aromatic hydrocarbons are cyclic compounds, that react readily since they have carbon atoms that are
deficient in hydrogen. All aromatic hydrocarbons have at least one benzene ring as part of their
molecular structure. (Simanzhenkov, 2003 ) Page 4,5,6. For Crude oil to be useful, these hydrocarbons
must be split into simpler compounds that can be used for energy source and fuel, the oil refining
process primarily involves distillation. The distillation process being used in this procedure is simple

differ largely. It is generally used in the separation of volatile components of the mixture from the

The first paragraph of Bleak House alone gives the reader an instant idea of how Charles Dickens saw
London to be around 1842. He has portrayed the streets to be muddy and extremely polluted, As much
mud in the streets as if the waters had but newly retired from the face of the earth. Here Dickens has
used a slight amount of Hyperbole to emphasize his point. He also uses personification when referring
to the snow flakes, saying that they have gone into mourning, ?smoke lowering down from the
chimneypots, making a soft black drizzle, with flakes of soot in it as big as full grown snowflakes?

also uses fog to symbolize death and disease, ?Fog in the eyes and throats of ancient Greenwich
pensioners, wheezing by the firesides of their wards?. He makes the reader feel as if it is infecting and
killing the inhabitants of London, and gives the reader images. In my opinion Dickens is trying to
make the point that the fog is spreading and it is London?s fault that one day everywhere will be
covered and everyone will be cloaking on the mistakes London made. The reader is given the
impression that Dickens thinks that this is all the Governments fault. Right from the beginning the
Lord Chancellor is portrayed and lazy, ?Michaelmas term lately over. Lord Chancellor sitting in
Lincoln?s Inn Hall.? He then goes on to refer to Lincoln?s Inn Hall as ?at the very heart of the fog?
insinuating that the Lord Chancellor is the cause of the fog. He also says, ?Lord High Chancellor
ought to be sitting her?as here he is?with a foggy glory round his head, softly fenced in with a crimson
cloth and curtains.? Dickens is making the Lord Chancellor out to be very ignorant to the problems of
London and just engulfed in his own power. The fact that the Lord Chancellor has ?Crimson cloth and

27. What Is The Mood Of The Poem Blackberry-Picking
In the poem Blackberry Picking, the author discusses the harshness of life by describing his
experience picking blackberries. While the poem is rather dark, he maintains the message that childish
hopes still exist despite the continual blockade of reality.
In the first stanza, Heaney describes the berry picking as a rather unimportant task. The blackberries
represent the hope and excitement that summer is: summer s blood was in it (6). The childish
hopefulness is expressed in the conversational tone, created by the syntax found within the rhythm.
The author organizes the sentences in a way that varies the stressed and unstressed syllable to keep the
experience of berry picking casual and light.
The rhyme scheme of AABB keeps a sense of organized structure throughout the poem.
The author often includes slant rhyme to eliminate the sing song pattern many poems have: for/hunger
(7 8).
The use of descriptive diction allows the reader to clearly visualize the experience. The clear imagery
of the berry s flesh (5) sweetened like thickened wine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

hopes of sweet and lovely blackberries are destroyed by the inevitable decay of what was sweet and

for even when wet grass bleached our boots (10), displays a depressing picture of the world around us.

29. Encoding Specificity
Background
For the average college student, taking notes is pretty important because it is how information is
studied. If you where to observe a college classroom you would see people taking notes on paper,
computers, and tape recorders. When test time comes around, they are all on paper, this could have an
effect on testing performance. Encoding specificity principle could affect recall of information.
Explained by Tulving and Thomson (1973) the principle asserts that only that can be retrieved that has
been stored, and that how it can be retrieved depends on how it was stored . What they are saying is
information is retrieved best when context cues are present at the time of encoding and recall. Based
on this principle it is possible that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In that experiment they where testing recognition memory. A normal college test doesn t just test for
recognition memory, although this does demonstrate the limits of encoding specificity. While in other
studies they looked closely at recall and encoding specificity. They found that scuba divers recall more
words when the learning environment matched the testing environment (Godden and Baddeley 1975).
This shows that extrinsic context effects recall and supports the encoding specificity principle. The
medium of notes is a form of extrinsic context, like the environments, test score will be higher if the
medium of notes and test where to be congruent. In an experiment looking at associative memory
context, participants where presented a word or a word pair with strong or weak association, they then
had to recognize the words from a test list (Tulving, Thomson 1971). They summarized their results
saying, with availability of stored information held constant, recognition of a previously seen item
depends upon its context at the time of the test, recognition being higher if test context matches the
input context than if the input context is removed or altered. Here a different form of context aids
recognition memory. The medium of notes is not the same type of extrinsic context as the
environments from Duncan Godden and Alan Baddeley (1980) experiment on recognition memory on

The disciplinary area of Arts deals with a wide variety of topics. Some typical examples include
paintings, sculptures, music, and literature. This paper most directly deals with the literature aspect as
it compares the themes featured in the two novels that were introduced in the HC 100 class. While
both Robert Kurson s Pirate Hunters and A.G. Riddle s The Atlantis Gene contain similar themes such
as choices, fear, persistence, and exploration, they differ due to the fact that Pirate Hunters focuses
mainly on personal discovery, whereas The Atlantis Gene emphasizes on more generalized and
important themes like power, secrets, and making sacrifices to help others.
The two novels are similar in the aspect that they both include themes of fear, persistence, exploration,
dedication, and making choices. In Pirate Hunters, Mattera searched as many files as he could in the
General Archive of the Indies in Seville, Spain, but he still could not find any mention of Bannister
and his ship, The Golden Fleece. At this point, Mattera said that now it seemed he was running out of
light (Kurson 110). This is one example that expresses the themes of dedication, choice, and
exploration in Pirate Hunters. Mattera felt inclined to give up; he was stumped, and he had to make a
choice. Mattera s dedication to the cause of exploration is what influenced his decision to remain on
his quest. His perseverance shines through this decision and shows the readers how truly dedicated he

philosophy is revealed from the very beginning of the story. The French title, L hote , translates to

This clash is further exacerbated by the lack of cultural understanding between the two groups. Daru

32. Functions And Relationship With Age And The Mutations...
Telomeric Functions and Relationship with Age and the Mutations Affecting Children with
Hutchinson Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS)
Author: Monica Peña
Introduction
Telomeres function as a means of protection for chromosomes. In DNA replication, the telomeres of a
chromosome cannot be replicated, resulting in chromosomes becoming shortened over time (Vidak,
2016). This characteristic of telomeres gives great insight to the importance of functions of telomerase
and telomeres on chromosomes, the impact telomeres have on aging, and the origin of RNA in
telomerase. Telomere functionality and defects in regulation can also give great understanding to
aging diseases in children such as Hutchinson Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS).

When telomeric length reaches a level where it is too short, the cell undergoes senescence and/or
apoptosis (Pierce, 2012). Telomerase prevents this cell death from occurring.
During DNA replication, DNA polymerase is unable to replicate the 3 end of linear chromosomes
because replication can only proceed in the 5 to 3 direction and requires a primer (Garavis, 2013).
Telomerase is able to recognize the presence of the G rich repeat sequence. It elongates he strand in
the 5 to 3 direction and adds additional repeats, using the RNA template in the enzyme as it moves
past the template strand. DNA polymerase, which carries a DNA primase as one of its subunits,
completes the lagging strand. This step successfully completes original information at the ends of
linear chromosomes (Garland Science, 2009). Without telomerase, telomeres would shorten, resulting
in aging. The shortening of telomeres as a person ages leads to higher likelihood of heart disease, bone
problems, cancer, and the more obvious, aged skin (Chojnowski, 2015). This process can be observed
in Figure 1. Figure 1: Represents a step by step process of the function of telomerase in DNA
replication. In the first step, the G rich strand can be seen. Telomerase uses its RNA component

This paper deals with the emotional alienation in Arundhati Roy s The god of Small Things. Our
society has created an identity for women since ancient days. Women are considered as a weaker sex
and inferior to men. Though she plays an important role in her life, she is not found as an individual
human being with all emotions and sufferings. She is supposed to live a life of dedication,
surrendering and devotion. In Indian fiction, the women are modeled with the above qualities. Those
qualities of women created a large impact on the Indian psyche and the expectation of society, and

She is perhaps the first Indian Women novelist who gained such a big global market for Indian
Writing in English. The novel The God of Small Things became so immensely popular among lovers
of fiction. Arundhati Roy was not only a leisure girl with all the time to try out an ambitious opus but
a brave and promising writer in English.
Some literary critics have contradictory views on Arundhati Roy s creative genius. Such critics have
perceived a rather new, arrogant girl showing up, one who even finds it gallant to be compared to
Rushdie and has developed a sense of inverted show for all that. Yet, she remains a Kottayam girl. The
sense of moral uprightness of a Christian community seeps through in her book.
The God of Small Things is an autobiographical type of novel. The character of Ammu in the novel

known as Venice over the past two decades. Due to the fact that I ve spent a fairly good amount of my
time throughout Venice, I have a great sense of the community and the culture. But this community
had gone through a lot, one being gentrification. Before gentrification, Venice had a very natural
society, accepting everyone for who they are. Venice was and frankly still is a beautiful place to go for
a jog or hang out with friends on the beach. However, the cost to live there has soared through the
roof. Merely renting an office in Venice has doubled since 2011 with the average cost of renting a two
bed room apartment falling slightly north of five thousand dollars (Dave). Gentrification happened in
Venice ultimately very quickly, causing rapid change in the culture and the overall lifestyle of its long
term residents. Venice, some consider, is the nicest area in Los Angeles, due to its ethnic community

that companies can withhold releasing works into the public domain for almost a century. (Plotkin) In
Canada copyright laws are similar, but instead of 70 years after death, an authors works are released

The Doctrine of Double Effect is the process in which someone must sacrifice some bad to achieve

the concept as The doctrine (or principle) of double effect is often invoked to explain the
permissibility of an action that causes a serious harm, such as the death of a human being, as a side
effect of promoting some good end . This is often referred to in the military as collateral damage .
While your goal is to not have any unintended casualties, if the threat is so great that you must take the
chance and harm civilians, you take it. Thomas Scanlon s view on the Doctrine of Double Effect is
that it is never justified to take a life regardless of the good that may come of it (Lippert Rasmussen

Attribution Theory and Depression Baron, Branscombe, and Byrne (2009) explain the attribution
theory as not wanting to just know how ourselves and others act, but why we and others act that way.
People assign attributes or reasons to why something happens to better perceive, justify, and
understand why people act the way they do. The Attribution Theory can be applied to many different
areas of peoples lives. In recent years the attribution theory has been applied to different areas
including Depression (Baron, Branscombe, Byrne, 2009). According to the Mayo Clinic Staff

Different therapies have come about in an attempt to help depressed individuals change their mindset
and stop engaging in self deprecating thoughts. The Attribution retraining (AR) therapy is one of the
techniques under the umbrella of cognitive behaviors. AR attempts to treat depressed individuals
negative thoughts and behaviors by changing the explanations for problems and symptoms. AR has
become popular and heavily researched in China because it is shorter and easily applied (Wang, et. al.,
2011) Depression is easy to target with attribution theory because it can be individualized to the
patients need and target the negative outcomes specifically. AR therapy targets the negative
attributions by supplying alternative explanations that are more healthy attributions (Wang et. al.,
2011). By offering a healthy alternative explanation the depressed person begins to make sense and
not feel so out of control of their life. This may also lead to a quick way for depressed individuals to
assess what is really happening and why they perceive the situation so negatively. This goes back to
the many different facets of depression. By targeting where the negative perceptions are coming from
