Putting your Best Foot Forward: Reviewing the Evangelist Portraits in the Codex Amiatinus
The Christ in Majesty page (fol. 796v) has attracted a great deal of scholarly attention over the years.
Given that it shows Christ flanked by two angels, surrounded by circular bands and enclosed within a
jewelled border, there are many elements for the art historian to consider. Unfortunately, the portraits
and symbols of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John have not been furnished with the attention they so
rightly deserve. This paper will revisit these images and attempt to place them into a wider artistic
context, thereby suggesting further theological meanings to the contemporary religious. It will also
highlight the result of recent photographic work on the page, conducted under ultraviolet light, which

most common in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, and others on the eastern coast. The water chestnut or
the Trapas Natan is a rosette of floating leaves usually rooted in mud near small marshes, lakes, and
nutrient rich river banks. Its stem can grow up to 15 feet long, and allows movement in mucky
substances. It has small white flower with four petals. The water chestnut plant produces a small, nut
like fruit about an inch wide. Each individual rosette can produce up to 25 seeds, leading to extremely

whole. With that in mind, there remains to be an abundance of effective ways in which the stimulating
of children s brains can influence a natural increase in the average students intelligence and student
productivity. With the addition of music education in schools, students can potentially gain many
unconscientious abilities to perform better in school and on standardized tests that may dictate their
futures. Scientists have proven that listening to music, specifically the classical genre of music,
improves spatial temporal reasoning which is the ability to move objects within the mind to solve
multi step problems. It has also been proven that students who endure through the complexities of
some form of musical training have seemingly higher intelligence quotient (IQ) levels. Furthermore,
there is evidence which proves that students who not only studied music but also continued their
