The document discusses Truman Capote and how he may have been selfish. It notes that while Capote wrote many acclaimed novels and stories over his career, he neglected his personal life and relationships due to reckless behavior, often leaving friends and partners feeling used. Specifically, the document points out that Capote befriended Harper Lee and may have helped her write "To Kill a Mockingbird", but later abandoned her while researching his nonfiction novel "In Cold Blood" about a murder case in Kansas.
This document provides a summary of four historical British plays: Everyman, The Second Shepherds Play, Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, and Marlowe's The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus. It notes that the plays reflect the themes and concerns of their times. While the endings of the plays contrast significantly, the themes in each play set up the audience for the conclusion. Everyman and Doctor Faustus explore death, but in opposite ways - Everyman tries to convince others to join his journey to death, while Faustus has others trying to persuade him away from his deal with Lucifer. By the end, Everyman finds company while Faustus must face the consequences of his deal alone.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.

My Favourite Personality Essay
1. My Favourite Personality Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "My Favorite Personality" may seem like a straightforward task
at first glance, given that you are writing about someone you admire or hold in high regard.
However, the difficulty lies in doing justice to the depth and complexity of the individual's
character while maintaining a coherent and engaging narrative.
Firstly, capturing the essence of a personality involves more than just listing positive traits or
accomplishments. It requires delving into the nuances of their character, exploring the
experiences and events that shaped them, and illustrating the impact they have had on your life
or the lives of others. This demands a thorough understanding of the person's background,
values, and the context in which they have made significant contributions.
Secondly, maintaining a balance between objectivity and personal connection can be challenging.
While expressing admiration is natural, it's crucial to avoid overly sentimental or biased
language. Striking the right tone involves providing a fair and nuanced portrayal, acknowledging
both strengths and weaknesses.
Additionally, crafting a well-structured essay is essential to effectively convey your thoughts.
Organizing ideas coherently, developing a strong thesis statement, and supporting it with
relevant examples require careful planning and thoughtful consideration. Transitioning between
different aspects of the personality seamlessly is vital for maintaining the essay's flow.
Furthermore, selecting the right words and employing vivid descriptions is crucial to bring the
individual to life on paper. Conveying emotions and experiences requires a skillful use of
language that resonates with the reader and creates a lasting impression.
In conclusion, writing an essay on your favorite personality is not merely a task of admiration but
a nuanced endeavor that demands a deep understanding of the person, effective organization of
thoughts, and skillful use of language. It's an art that requires time, effort, and a genuine
connection to the subject.

2. What Are The Different Weighting Methods Used For...
Results
This section describes some of the different weighting methods for combining effect
sizes across studies when conducting meta analysis. This section will focus on
methods used for binary outcome data and effect measures such as relative risks and
odds ratios. The section will first introduce fixed effect and random effects analyses.
It will then describe weighting methods that can be used for these analytic approaches.
Fixed effect versus random effects analyses
Fixed effect and random effects models are the two most common approaches used
when conducting a meta analysis (Borenstein, Hedges, Higgins, Rothstein, 2010).
The distinction between these approaches is both conceptual and statistical in nature.
The fixed effect model ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although both fixed effect and random effects models will generally give more
weight to larger studies with lower variance estimates, the weights will be relatively
more balanced with a random effects model because it assumes that each of the effect
sizes in the analysis are estimating a different true effect (Borenstein, Hedges,
Rothstein, 2007). Thus, random effects models will give more weight to smaller
studies with higher variance estimates compared to fixed effect models.
In contrast, the weights for a fixed effect model will be more extreme than those of a
random effects model because it is assumed that the best estimate of the effect size
will be from the largest study with the lowest variance (Borenstein et al., 2007).
Consequently, compared to a random effects model, the pooled or summary effect
for a fixed effect model will be closer to the effect obtained from the largest study
with the lowest variance. With respect to the variance estimates of the pooled or
summary effect, random effects model will result in higher variances than fixed
effect models because of the added between study variability assumed to be present.
The assumptions in a fixed effect analysis may only be appropriate in a limited
number of situations. For example, if studies included in a meta analysis were
conducted using a similar methodology by recruiting participants in a similar manner
and
3. Vard The Evolution Of The Film Genre
Films are divided by different genres a French word meaning type or kind (Neale
Stephen, 7), including melodrama, comedy, and tragedy. Genre has occupied an
important place in the study of the cinema for over thirty years. One of the biggest
genres that has been evolved over the years and has many implications is
melodrama. As a theatrical genre, melodrama came into existence in the late
eighteenth century in France and Germany (Neale Stephen, 184). In the following
century melodrama genre has spread and developed quick from France to Britain,
America, and the rest of Europe. The melodrama initial definition was both formal
and specific: melodrama was a dramatic passage, scene or play in which at first

4. Analysis Of Act 4 Scene 1 Of Othello
The scene that I chose to illustrate and direct was act 4 scene 1, when Othello
slapped Desdemona. Here you can really grasp Othello s controlling attitude as he
insists on Desdemona lying, even though she didn t know what she was necessarily
lying about. We really witness the manipulative portion of Othellos personality, and
that s why I m focusing on this scene. The way I interpret this scene is it beginning
with a spotlight on Iagoand Othello as they speak about Cassio and Desdemona. Once
Iago brings up the dream that Cassio had in bed with him, I imagine Desdemona and
Cassio reenacting it on the balcony of the theatre; this would happen with a second
spotlight shining on them. After that, the stage lights would reveal the set in which
5. The Similarities And Differences Between The Chesapeake...
During the late 16th century and into the 17th century, two colonies emerged from
England in the New World. The two colonies were called the Chesapeake and New
England colonies. Even though the two areas were formed and governed by the
English, the colonies had similarities as well as differences. Differences in
geography, religion, politics, economic, and nationalities, were responsible for
molding the colonies. These differences came from one major factor: the very reason
the English settlers came to the New World.
The Chesapeake colonies were
primarily created by companies interested in profiting from the natural resources
of the New World such as gold or silver to bring back to England. The New England
colonies were primarily created to escaped religious persecution and set up a
haven for people of their faith. The inhabitants of the New England area were far
healthier. Their clean water supply was a sharp contrast to the contaminated
waters of Chesapeake Bay. The cool climate had a good impact on colonists
because it prevented the spread of life threatening diseases. Because of New
England s cool climate, many people died during severe winters. Chesapeake s
climate had positive and negative factors as well. The warm, moist climate in the
Chesapeake colonies carried diseases that killed many of the colonists. In contrast to
the New England colonists, the Chesapeake colonists did not have to worry as much
about surviving cold winters. The natural resources of the

7. Police Misconduct In America
Fair and equal treatment is a widely accepted aspiration of most Americans, but to
this day is still a work in progress. It s naive to say police misconduct isn t an issue,
even more so to say that young African American men aren t unreasonably
marginalized and targeted. This is something we need to take action towards and
make a change if we expect anything about this to change. Policeare not the enemy,
the majority of police are well trained and RESPECTFUL OF THE PEOPLE, but
that is not to make light of very serious problems regarding police brutality, false
statements, racial profiling, manslaughter, sexual assault, and much much more
among the minority of officers. They are meant to prevent crime, protect and serve,
and enforce the law.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s become socially accepted that officers tend to target black people more than
white people. Which isn t untrue. This leads people to think, if the same exact
scenario was done, but one involved a white teen and one a black teen, then would
there still be the same result? Black people, as Barack Obama stated, are
disproportionately involved in the criminal justice system; They re disproportionately
both victims and perpetrators of violence His point being that Statistically, young
African Americans are moreEXPOSED TO violent, and are more likely to commit a
crime. That isn t some bigoted statement said to further perpetuate hate throughout
society, that s just the facts. But, that with that in mind, people tend to use that to
judge all African Americans as if they are all immediately criminals just for being
black. African Americans can trace this type of disgusting generalization of a race
of people back to their difficult past in America. It s fair to say a majority of crime
caused by African Americans happens in poor black neighborhoods, and once again,
those communities can trace their origin back to its very rough historical beginning,
which explains some of the poverty and dysfunction that still is tragically deeply
embedded into their culture starting out in America. However, what might surprise
some people
8. How To Help People In Appalachian Culture
Researcher have spent time trying to develop ways to help people in the
Appalachian area to be able to get careers and help themselves. People from the
Appalachian area are more likely to seek help from their churches or their families,
before getting help from a stranger. The reason that people are unwilling to get help
from strangers is because, of the way that the culture is in the Appalachian area.
People who grew up in this area have strong ties in their churches and their
communities. They are really close with their family and their family is going to
come before anything else. People from this area are going to work for what the
family needrather than what they are interested in. They are also more likely to
distrust outsiders. They are not going to wantto go work for a company when the
owner is not from this area, and wants the workers to what they are used to doing
in a different way. With the way that people in the Appalachian area this can cause
some problems for career development. There is limited time for exposure to
different career options. Especially, being raised in an area that you end up working
the same job as your father worked. Also a person may leave school if a family need
arises.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

9. Setting In Poltergeist And The Haunting Of Hill House
In most fictional stories, setting seems to be just the background. In school students
identify the year and city the story takes place in and that s about all they discuss
regarding it. In some stories that can be enough. The story is focused on just the
characters and setting doesn t really matter. In the cases of The Haunting of Hill
House by Shirley Jackson and Poltergeist directed by Tobe Hooper that is far from
the truth. As both of these stories revolve around haunted houses, the setting can be
described as the antagonist in the stories. the setting is crucial to both the plot and
characterdevelopment throughout The Haunting of Hill House and Poltergeist. The
setting in both Poltergeist and The Haunting of Hill House, the... Show more content

The paranormal experiences start to manifest once the spirits attach themselves to
the house, making the setting crucial to the plot. Along with the house being
crucial, it was important for Carol Ann to be taken away in the first instance,
otherwise it would be likely the family would have up and left the home for their
safety. The disappearance of Carol Ann into the home creates that desperation to
stick around despite the paranormal experiences. The tension continues to increase
as the family hires different specialists into their home to save their daughter. It is
not until the end of the movie that it is revealed why the house is really haunted in
the first place. It is revealed that their home was built on a graveyard that had been
removed the only catch was that the tombstones were removed, but the bodies
stayed put. This detail is imperative to story as it gives another aspect to the setting
and why the house was haunted. If this were any other house on the block, or in a
different city, the paranormal experiences would never happen. The focus on the
house and its actions allow it to develop into its own character in the story and
develop alongside the family
10. Checkouts By Cynthia Rylant
It s amazing how literary devices are what make a fictional story. In this fictional
story Checkouts by Cynthia Rylant, literary devices were used to help piece the story
together. In this short story, Rylant incorporates motive, the reasoning why a person
acts a certain way, and theme, the main idea or meaning behind the story. She also
included symbolism, where something can mean one thing other than its literal
meaning, as well as indirect characterization, when a characters personality is shown
through speech, actions, and appearance. The fictional story Blues Ain t No Mockin
Bird by Toni Cade Bambara also used these literary terms, however, Checkouts
illustration of these terms surpassed Blues Ain t No Mockin Bird as it was easier...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this short story, motive played a big part as that is what caused the conflict
between the cameramen and the family as the cameramen would not stop filming
no matter how many times the were unwelcomed. Despite the use in Blues Ain t
No Mockin Bird , motive is better exemplified in Checkouts because we know what
the girl and boy are thinking and it is directly told to the reader requiring less
inference and more facts. In addition to motive, symbolism was also significantly
used in Blues Ain t No Mockin Bird , as the chaos and nuisance happening caused
by the cameramen pestering the family is like the hawks who invaded Granny and
Granddaddy Cain s property which caused unwanted disturbance. Although
symbolism is used in Blues Ain t No Mockin Bird , Checkouts better demonstrated
it because the events happened are more likely to happen to the reader, allowing the
reader to have a connection with the story. For all that, motive and symbolism does
not personify Blues Ain t No Mockin Bird , as the true motive/intention of the
characters and story is not clear and majority of the people will not and cannot relate
to a hawk and chicken hawk disturbing their
11. How Alzheimer s Changed My Family
Alzheimer s is a disease that affects roughly 3 million families each year, including
my own. Around this time three years ago my parents got a call that changed our
entire lives. At 3 A.M. they received a phone call from a police department, in a
surrounding town, that they had pulled over my step grandpa, who was driving
down the highway on the wrong side of the road. This was the first of many calls
that my parents received in regard to my grandfather. There were instances of him
showing up to work, although he was 20 years in retirement. He would go out to
eat and not realize that he had been at the restaurant 10 minutes prior to eat.
Quickly, my parents realized that something was off and medical assistance was
needed. After some series of testing, it was very clear to the doctor that Alzheimer
s was the answer to his lack of memory and at the age of 86, he was officially
diagnosed with the disease. This news was hard for my entire family, and extremely
hard for my step father. Not only did the doctor determine that Alzheimer s was
causing these events to occur, but that there was a genetic link and my step father
could also carry the gene. He has personally chosen not to test for the gene, and to
continue to live his life to the fullest. As a family, this is something that has changed
our lives... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Still Alice gave me insight as to how this disease can affect many other families other
than my own in many similar ways. Seeing Alice go through he stages of dementia,
and the affect the disease had on her executive function are what caught my attention
the most while reading the book, since those aspects are some that I have witnessed
my grandfather go through. One of the most interesting things about the book is that
Alice was diagnosed with early onset and could understand what was going to happen
to her before it
12. Player Modes Of Video Games
Player Modes in Video Games
Player mode selection is not an option in every game, but there are specific player
modes designed in all game genres to best serve every kind of gamer. Video games
have become more popular in the past couple of decades, providing the uprising of
advertisement and stores which cater to the hobby. Developers compete to pump out
quantity and quality. Consequently, games have evolved beyond graphics alone. Now
games come packed with achievements, leaderboards, side quests, in game shops,
customizable characters, and a chock full of other options, including the use of real
world money to buy items for a character. Not only have games evolved in these
ways, but the way we play modern games has changed as well. ... Show more content

Be that as it may, the single player mode is the only one which can quench the thirst
for a story rich game, in a self reliant environment, which is free from awkward and
problematic social miscommunication unlike two or multiplayer or massively
multiplayer modes.
Single Player Mode
First, the single player mode is typically largely story rich. Developers found a way
to engage lone players, by captivating them with a story background, often with an
unfolding story throughout the game. For example, in Ori and the Blind Forest,
the game begins with a touching story about Ori, the main protagonist. His
heartfelt story coupled with the enchanting musical score and artwork, plus the
often challenging obstacles a player must overcome, makes this platformer game
story rich and memorable. Similarly, some games include an interactive story,
where the player can select conversational responses or make detrimental decisions
as to how the character s morale develops and how the story goes. In the role
playing Fable series, the choices made by the player, dictate how the character
develops and how the story pans out. The player determines whether their character
is good or evil, in regards to the way their character responds to the built in
characters, or commonly referred to as artificial intelligence, in the game, along with
what personal, social and political choices they deem fit. Second, single player mode
offers players a self reliant environment.
13. Figurative Language In The Hollow Men
In T.S Eliot s poem The Hollow Men, the speaker illustrates the loss of identity and
the absence of substance within the hollow men due to the depletion of faith in
religion following World War I.
Initially, the speaker reveals that following what was known as the war to end all
wars, the men who had fought are now void of true substance and are only a shell
of their prior selves. Specifically, the speaker describes the voices of the hollow men
to be as quiet and meaningless / as wind in dry grass (9 10). Here, Eliot s simile
demonstrates the lack of purpose the veterans of the war now possess. Just as wind
in grass creates a negligible sound, so do the voices of the men the speaker describes
in the poem. What the men say is meaningless and lacks purpose to those who hear,
thus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clearly, Eliot illustrates the purposelessness of the veterans due to the atrocities of
the war. Without color, shade is simply nothing, proving how the hollow men are
now nothing and lack the substances they previously possessed. Also, to emphasize
the loss of mental substance, the speaker wears Such deliberate disguises / Rat s
coat, crowskin, crossed staves / In a field / Behaving as the wind behaves (34 37).
Eliot s allusion to the scarecrow L. Frank Baum s The Wizard of Ozillustrates the
current state of brainlessness of the hollow men. In The Wizard of Oz, the
protagonist, Dorothy, comes across a scarecrow on her journey following the yellow
brick road to reach the Emerald City. The scarecrow reveals that he lacks a brain and
is only filled with straw, but that he wants to be able to think intelligent thoughts. The
allusion to this story demonstrates how there is an absence of substantial thoughts in
the veterans, but they wish they could once again return to their prior selves
preceding the war. Additionally, the speaker reveals that in the current state of the
world after

15. The Civil War Of 1861
The Civil War took place in 1861 and it lasted up until 1865. It was a war between
the United States or, The Union army rather, and eleven deep rooted southern
states known as the Confederacy. The Civil War occurred mainly as a direct
response to slavery. The South preferred to keep slavery and the North simply
wanted to preserve the Union. However, there were many other incidents that
occurred and there were different battles that caused the Civil War to have its end
results. Those battles will be addressed in the following paragraphs. The very first
battle took place in 1861. It was known as both The Battle of Bull Run and the
Battle of Manassas. The Union army, led by General Irvin Manassas, was slightly
larger than the Confederate army, led by P.G.T. Beauregard. It took place in
northern Virginia when the Union army marched to Manassas in attempt to attack
the Confederates. The attack appeared to be successful, but the Confederates
managed to survive. They later went on to counterattack the Union and McDowell
and his army were forced to retreat back to Washington. This battle was very
detrimental and overwhelming for the Union army, and left them in a state of
disbelief. However, in 1861 the Union were still able to make substantial progress.
They were eventually able to proclaim western Virginia a new renowned state
admitted as West Virginia in 1863. Shortly after the Battle of Bull Run, the war took
a turn in favor of the Union. A Union regiment directed by David
16. Effects of Violent Media on the Youth Essay
It is that time of year again. With the Holidays closing in on the horizon, parents are
scrambling to buy their children that perfect present. With that in mind, many parents
will buy their little boys and girls the latest addition to the Microsoft Xbox family,
the Xbox One, which is perhaps the hottest gift this season. Everybody wants it. But
most of the Xbox games like Call of Duty, Assassin s Creed, and Halo are extremely
violent, depicting war, blood, and gore very nonchalantly. The television channel FX

But, the games used in their sessions were Mario Brothers games, and while these
contain some violence such has jumping on other character s heads, etc., Mario
Brothers by no means contains the violence that today s common video games like
Assassin s Creed does. In a statistic that is extremely startling, as many as 73% of
parents believe that their children view violent media content at least once a week
(Cheng, et al., 2004). But what exactly constitutes violence? Stipp and J. Ronald
Milavsky s (1988) piece entitled U.S. Television Programming s Effects on
Aggressive Behavior of Children and Adolescents brings to light that pollsters
always point out that there is too much violence on television but researchers have
found that it is extremely difficult to measure and define how much violence is too
much violence in television. Television media includes everything from children s
comedy on the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, to bloody gore movies and
shows on FX, HBO, TNT, and others. That is a very wide spectrum to narrow in
terms of what children may see on a daily basis. Stipp and Milavsky s research
explains that surveys used to determine aggressiveness and media in children have
questionable validity of the key measures. They go on to explain
17. Risk And A Form Of Linguistic Imperialism
The term risk has been defined in so many ways by many scholars. The term risk
itself is very broad to interpret. However, risk is often defined as a threat and it
usually brings negative impacts to a person or an organisation. Hansson (2005)
claims that many attempts have been made to define risk in a single meaning and
eliminate other definitions which are futile and a form of linguistic imperialism .
Since there is no exact meaning of risk, people describe risk based on their own
perceptions and purposes. Perminova et al. (2008) and the Association of Project
Management (APM) define risk as an uncertain event and exclusively negative (APM,
2006). Ward and Chapman (2003) recommend that project risk management(PRM) is
categorized as project uncertainty management. Nonetheless, the term uncertainty
again brings confusion as there is no single meaning that can successfully define it
(Perminova et al., 2008). On the contrary, Kaplan and Garrick (1981) define risk
according to public s risk perception. There are three criteria suggested by the
authors such as the failure of that particular event, its tendency as well as the impact
of the failure. Although there have been countless struggles to picture risk in a
proper way, it is best that the focus should be diverted to a more important issue
which is how to manage risk instead of defining it as time may not be on our side.
Apart from the confusing issue of defining what risk really means, authors find
themselves very

influence people worldwide is the Prophet Muhammad, the last prophet in the Islamic
faith. There are many misconceptions about Muhammad, but if you were to ask any
Muslim living now or at his time for one fact about him, they would tell you that he
was a man of character. Even before given revelation from God through Angel
Gabriel, Muhammadwas known through Mecca as the Truthful and the Trustworthy.
He was born an orphan and was brought up by family relatives. Muhammad s
character shows his endurance through the toughest of times. As Islamspread, more
and more people converted simply because they were mesmerized by Muhammad s
character. He didn t just preach the religion, he actually lived it. Three major
characteristics of the ProphetMuhammad were that he was kind, loving, and patient.
Muhammad was a known for his kindness, making him someone people could
confide in and trust. One example of when the Prophet Muhammad demonstrated
kindness was the story about his neighbor. There was once a woman who lived next
door to Muhammad. This woman was cruel and would dump trash on his doorstep
every day. The trash would cut and bruise his bare feet, but he never complained to
her. One morning, there was no trash on Muhammad s doorstep. The Prophet became
concerned and went next door. He was told that she was very ill. Saddened by this,
he went home and returned to his neighbor s house with

This is an interschool women basketball match dated on a Saturday 30 Jan 2016,
starting from 1 pm to 3 pm in Pierri Gym, I was sitting on the four lane on the left
hand side of the stadium. It is observed that most of the audience are white
Americans (the white), aging 30 or above, which I believe could possibly be the
parents from both teams. There are some kids aged 9 or 10 and a baby as well,
sitting with their parents; most of the audienceare sitting in pairs. To the right end of
the stadium sat African American (the black), while two third of the stadium sat the
while. The Dean College team (DC) wore white and red suits with grey strips,
whereas the Southern Maine Community College team (SMCC) took a mix of navy
blue and white as their representation. Before the contest began, both teams clapped
in rhythm to embrace the start of the game along with the song of the chants for
America. A
As the game started, a lady in grey T shirt (grey lady) who sat in front of me
clapped for the team as the contest began to star; the remaining teammates of both
teams called their slogan to boost their confidence. Another lady in red shirt (red

her fist as hard as she could. An international student named Clara, who s sitting
beside me shouted Woooo while she clapped as DC scored another point. The grey

creating your resume, I learned about what a resume is, what a resume should look
like, what you should do to prepare to write a resume, and what your resume should
consist of. A resume is a universal job hunting and marketing tool that consists of a
snapshot of your relevant qualifications. It should be one to two pages free of

looking for, what a personal pitch is, and how to be a competitive applicant. Employer
research is important because it gauges your interest, you learn what is important to
the employer, and you enhance elements of job search. The main aspects employers
are looking for whether you know the services and products the company provides,
the positions that are currently available, the mission statement of the company

headquarters and branch locations, size and structure of the organization, and the
competitors within the industry. A personal pitch is a 30 second commercial to sell
yourself to the employer. It is a brief statement that introduces yourself and what you
have to offer to a prospective employer. It consists of the introduction, interest in
position/organization, strengths and qualifications, and a relevant question. The
introduction introduces who you are, what you are major and minoring in, and what
you are looking for. The relevant question can be to ask the employer what kind of
qualities he or she is looking for in a candidate. The ways to be a competitive
applicant is to explain interest in the organization, know about the available positions,
communicate how you can help the organization, and demonstrate that you have the

23. Genetically Modified Organism s ( Gmo ) Essay
Genetically Modified Organism s (GMO) have been gaining public spotlight as
scrutiny over their safety has recently been popularized. A GMO is defined as an
organism whose genetic material has been altered by means of genetic engineering,
(Dictionary.com, 2015). The debate for both sides of the argument have been
detrimental to the other and have yet to be copiously presented without a bias. While
any organism can be genetically modified, the unrest between consumers and
producers is centered around GMO crops because of the potential impact they could
have on human health (Bushak, 2015).
While the popularity of GMOs has only recently started to skyrocket, GMOs have
been around for thousands of years. A reporter for Vice, Isobel Yeung, stated,
Essentially, farmers have been modifying crops for thousands and thousands of
years we ve been cross breeding our best possible, most productive hybrids to create
the best crops, (Bushak, 2015). However, the difference today is there are genes
being added that otherwise would not be there (Bushak, 2015).
The fight today over GMOs has become more volatile than ever before. While there
are a variety of organizations fighting for and against GMOs, two have become
prominent faces for their respective arguments. Monsanto, a bioengineering company,
has been experimenting with genetically modified seeds since 1987 when the US
Department of Agriculture allowed them to field test genetically modified tomatoes
(Monsanto, 2015). Monsanto

recognizes having more flexibility in work schedules will alleviate some work and
family conflict, and hopes telecommutingwill be a benefit for the employees (Pynes,

misuse of this benefit and will ensure all requests are fairly considered.

Since telecommuters could miss out on developmental activities such as interpersonal
networking, informational learning, and mentoring, there will need to be a limit to
the frequency of telecommuting (Cooper Kurland, 2002). Limiting telecommuting
to one day per week will prevent employees from becoming isolated with the
organization (Cooper Kurland, 2002). Requesting more than one day per week will
require additional evaluation. Employees will complete a standardized form to be
submitted to their supervisor. This form will include an agenda outlining their tasks
and intended outcomes for their telecommute day. Additionally, supervisors will
provide feedback on the agenda and require the employee to complete and submit a
telecommute diary when returning to work (Cooper Kurland, 2002). Limiting the
frequency of telecommuting and keeping detailed records of off site activities will
keep the use of the policy fair, objective, and hold all employees accountable for their

These uniquely designed containers are made up of polystyrene foam cells into

Cell Boxes If you can t get your hands on the specialty boxes, you can visit your
local liquor store, a courier, or even a grocery store, and find out if they have cell

Siblings should be screened for the disease (by measuring ceruloplasmin, urine

Because of some confounding factors interpretation the results is hard. In addition,
higher levels may also be found in acute liver failure or chronic cholestasis.
Therefore, it has limited utility. Furthermore, because 90% of copper is carried by
ceruloplasmin and the latter is generally reduced in WD, serum copper values
alone may be misleadingly normal. In addition serum levels of copper may be

Ceruloplasmin The normal value of ceruloplasmin ranges from 20 to 40 mg/dL.
Levels below 18 mg/dL can be suggestive for WD. Low or absent ceruloplasmin is

increased free copper. Low levels can be found in 1% of normal population and 10%
of heterozygotes or carriers (Table2). So, low seruloplasmin is not diagnostic by

In 1943, Theodor Von Karman, in response to a request by US Air Force
headquarters, claimed that the realization of a supersonic aircraft would have been
doable using the right technology and tools. The fear of breaking the sound barrier
was finally removed in 1947, when the Captain Yaeger flew the Bell X 1 at a speed
slightly above Mach 1 for few seconds, producing the famous and long awaited sonic
boom(caused by an impulsive pressure change created by the sonic waves detaching
from the aircraft), music for the scientists attending that historical moment, but

The B 58 itself showed to the world that the possibility of a civilian SST was at
least worthy of accurate investigation and capital investments. Although the large
bomber implemented the supersonic efficient area ruling design first introduced by
Whitcomb (mid 1950s [1]) and therefore it could deliver a nuclear payload cruising
at Mach 2 for about two hours, the light and thin wings, designed for high altitude
flight and inefficient close to the ground at subsonic speed, highlighted a new set of
primary technical challenges to be addressed by a commercial SST: the realization
satisfactory structural design, the optimization of the wing aerodynamics for
subsonic flow, and related to the last point, the improvement of takeoff and landing
performance. A deadly crash at 1961 Paris air show summed up all the concerns
about safety issues related to a not optimal overall design [4].
Three civilian SST programs started in the 1960s: the successful Anglo French

of the USA SST, all belonging to the category of what today is referred as first

This marginalized group of society basically faces the consequences of inequality.
Different researches have been undertaken by different researchers. Jessica redy

others because the culture was muffled long ago by genocide or political tragedy,

Identity chaos is the major dilemma of their life, which leads to other societal evils.
Knowingly or unknowingly these people are deprived of even basic needs of life.
This discriminatory attitude of society as well as authorities as led them to
wrongfully think that they deserve the life they are living. The mysterious
circumstances of gypsies are caused by the abys gap between these communities and
government. Their children are bound to labor because of impossibility of the elders
to work due to failure of showing their real identity, due to which they cannot get a
proper job and have to rely upon meager income. Due to lack of formal education they
do not have awareness to descent norms of society; they even considered the legal
judicial system bogus. The concept of polygamy is common among them, without
considering the just treatment for each wife, they even do not know the total number
of their children, which is a screaming testimony of their irresponsible attitude toward
their families. These attitudes make them unacceptable for the society, which leads to
their marginalization. Many gypsies teach their children the traditional music and
dance of the Gypsy people, but literacy is not highly valued. This means that Gypsies
cannot respond articulately to the negative stereotypes that are circulated in the

In 1940, German planes flew over Britain in an attempt to take over the country and
tear apart the enemy s alliance. Britain was surprised by this attack, but countered by
shooting down at least twenty planes of the Luftwaffe, the Nazi air force, during the
initial attack. Hitler sent waves of planes into Britain every day, trying to lower
British morale; however, he did not expect Allied forces to send supplies to England.

After Poland and France were conquered they lost a percentage of their incoming
supplies but, nevertheless, the United States sent even more. This allowed production
of multiple planes and gave Britain more time to devise plans for a counter attack.
The Royal Air Force had superior aircrafts, pilots, and training tactics, compared to
the Luftwaffe. The war in Europe started in early September 1939. Germany, Adolf
Hitler, took over Poland. Britain and France countered by declaring war on
Germany but did not take action for many months. In 1940, Germany attacked its
next target, Denmark, and Norway. Soon after they invaded and successfully took
over Belgium, the Netherlands, and France. All of these nations were conquered
because of the Blitzkrieg or lightning war, technique. In the summer of 1940,
Germany took Britain head on, this time from the air. The Battle of Britain turned
out to be Hitler s first military failure, as the Luftwaffe never could destroy the
powerful Royal Air Force. Britain was slightly surprise by the attack, but was ready
to fight in time. Germany tried to blockade Britain but the powerful Royal Navy
sunk German battleships and submarines. If Hitler could have pulled off a blockade
Britain would have been at a huge disadvantage, because they import a huge majority
of their supplies. Germany took to the air to

Deterrence and the Death Penalty
The idea of capital punishment deterring crime is difficult to determine; some could
rationalize that the death penalty should in theory stop potential murders from
committing crimes. However, this rationalization has never been concretely proven.
The research into capital punishment s effect on deterrence is immense; however, the
majority of research on this issue has differential findings. Although some research

do this. Understanding deterrence, the death penalty, and the results of ... Show more

Beccaria suggested if the punishments were done immediately after the crime, then
these punishments would make for a more effective legal system (as cited in
Paternoster, 2010).
According to Paternoster (2010), the majority of Beccaria s original deterrence
ideals concluded that self interest to commit an offense could be stopped by legal
punishments that are definite, relational, and immediate. Paternoster (2010),
determined that Beccaria provided the rational authority with applied strategies to
make legal systems more cogent and effective. However, according to Paternoster
(2010), Beccaria fell short in providing a developed theory of crime or criminal
conduct; he also failed to provide a theory of behavior other than the conception that
offenses are motivated by self interest.
Alternatively, Paternoster (2010), suggested that Bentham displayed a more
developed deterrence theory model of human conduct. Bentham identified that
human behavior is directed by the pursuance of pleasure and the evasion of pain (as
cited in Paternoster, 2010). Bentham s pleasure principle is defined by the benefits;
while the pain principle is the costs (as cited in Paternoster, 2010). Bentham
specified four elements of pleasure and pain; physical, political, moral or popular,

Product positioning is very hard for the firm. There is a tight price competition due
to the existence of strong players in the industry. Also in the existence of these big
and strong competitors, substitution is also high because each of these players offer a
wide variety of products that present consumers different level of satisfaction.
There were also the existences of exporting conflicts. In 1994, an exporting
consultant Hodges had identified major export problems. One of these problems is
the relatively high cost, low efficiency and reliability of Australian shipping that will
greatly affect the price and quality of the product. There are also problems with the
availability and usage of appropriate containers for the product that again has a
massive effect on the quality and on time delivery of the products. Different countries
have their own prevailing laws and standards, which an exporter should comply with.
There are also trends that an exporter should successfully fulfil, like the new trend for
environmental concerns. The exporter should also establish a better relationship with
their traders in order to continue a regular link and easy entry to the market.
How could APPEC and the industry improve its ability to compete effectively against
international competitors?
The Australian Pineapple Products Exporting Company, as well as the other players
in the industry, must operate and produce pineapple
34. Over Many Years, Lois Lowry S Novels Have Been Analyzed
Over many years, Lois Lowry s novels have been analyzed by many. Lowry is
known for grasping measures of social control and taking them a step further. While
some, such as Lucas Kavner (2012) and Carter F. Hanson (2009) declare their
acclamation for her out of the box writing technique, scholars and Utopian studies,
such as Lyman Tower Sargent (1988), Tom Moylan (2014), and Fredric Jameson
(1998), place emphasis on the contradiction that dystopia has on nature.
One could only dream of a world without discrimination. In a world with no

The Receiver of Memory is the one person in the community who stores all the past
memories of the time before Sameness. The position of Receiver of Memory is
important because there may be times where one must use the wisdom gained from
history to aid the community s decision making; guidance in the present using
memories in the past. (Noyce, Koenigsberg, Silver, 2014). The figurative
community Lowry writes of lacks any color, memory, climate, or understanding of
their territory, all in an effort to uphold structural order and a true sense of equality
beyond personal individuality. Our people made that choice, the choice to go to
Sameness. Before my time, before the previous time, back and back and back. We
relinquished color when we relinquished sunshine and did away with differences. He
thought for a moment. We gained control of many things. But we had to let go of
others. (Lowry, 1993, p. 95)
Though some scholars do not agree with the writing techniques of Lois Lowry, I argue
that Lowry is an amazing and independent writer. I find Lowry s writing to be very
fascinating and somewhat truthful in the real world even though these are fiction
novels. While Lowry writes of these innovative places, she uses symbolism which
connects the character s world to our own world.

Coral reefs are unique and diverse underwater marine ecosystems that are found in
many parts of the world. Today these tropical reefs suffer a great deal of
environmental stresses and are projected to decline over the next century due to
global warming. In Grottoli s article: The cumulative impact of annual coral
bleaching can turn some coral species winners into losers, she elaborates on the
effects of annual bleaching on three species of coral. Grottoli took three species of
coral such as O. Faveolata, P.asreoides P.divaricata and exposed the treatment groups
to high temperatures of 31.5 В°C for 15 days while control groups remained at a

Such high level of energy reserve is a good indication of over all health and ability
to acclimate to harsh environments. An endosymbiont level is a measurement of
other beneficial cells that lives on the coral and forms a symbiotic relationship.
Researchers recorded their results and then repeated the experiment on the same
corals a year later to see the effects of repeated high temperatures as a model for
annual coral bleaching as a result of global warming. Upon completion of the
experiment Grottoli and her team of researchers noted, yearly bleaching can
dramatically alter the thermal tolerance of corals (Grottoli s, 2014). Interestingly
enough, while the majority of the species decreased in all variables compared to
controls, P.divaricata increased in energy reserves at about 20 45% higher than
controls after the second treatment. This increase in total energy reserve lead to a
reduction in the susceptibility to coral bleaching for that species. Thus, suggests that
this species of coral can adapt to high temperatures after the first event of bleaching
occurs. Conversely, due to its low energy reserves and its low potential to increase
endosymbiont levels, P.asreoides is not likely acclimatize to higher temperatures thus
resulting in low abundance of the species in future

(1948) The Bicycle Thief narrates the story of Antonio Ricci (Lamberto
Maggiorani), who, after finding a job as a bill poster, loses his bicycle to a young
thief. He tries to look for it with his son Bruno (Enzo Staiola); however, despite
seeing the thief, he fails to recover his bicycle. Desperate, he tries to steal a bike
himself but is easily thwarted by a group of bystanders. They plan to bring him to
the police station until the owner notices the weeping Bruno and, in an act of
compassion, ask others to release the thief. In this paper, I argue that The Bicycle

Henri Lefebvre (1991) asserted that the production of space concerns the
performances of power through (as cited in Aitken Dixon, 2006, p. 332). Space is
power. Large spaces between the rich and the poor in the buying area underline the
performance of space. The representation of space is much more crowded for the
poor as shown in the Piazza Vittorio. Gonzaga (2017) would call this the
cinematographic unconscious of slum voyeurism (p. 102). Representational spaces
are filled up with the power of the government and the rich. The scene of the linen
being brought up in the warehouse of linen characterizes society s gross inequality,
suggesting that the rich steals from the poor the most. Depicting the poor as they
are illustrates the spaces denied to them. If they are concentrated in any space, it is
the space of neglect and impoverishment. Filmic landscapes in The Bicycle Thief
reveal the reel and the real, the widespread social conditions and their social
meanings for the working class in desperate conditions. De Sica uses mise en scene
to reveal poverty and mobility to underline the lack of movement of the poor. In the
end, they steal from each other, an ironic misdeed, when the rich steals from them the
most, specifically by denying them better economic opportunities. The ending is
pessimistic but realistic: the poor have no one else but themselves, as they huddle to
an uncertain
38. Blue Jays And Robins Compare And Contrast
Do you know the sounds of the birds in the morning? That is the Blue Jays and
Robins at work. Blue Jays and Robins are amazing and wonderful birds. They have
a similar diet,a different habitat, and some similarities in traits. Both Blue Jays and
Robins travel in flocks, sometimes with each other. They have similar lengths too,
but a Blue Jay can get a inch longer than a Robin. The Blue Jay mimics the calls of
other animals, while a Robin has its own call. A Blue Jay is a melanian color with
blue and red. Meanwhile a Robin has dark grey, black, dark red, and brown. Blue
Jays are exceedingly well at learning new things, while Robins are not so well at
learning new things. Blue Jays and Robins are omnivores. That means they eat
both plants and animals. They both like to eat caterpillars and fruits. Blue Jays
like to eat smaller birds, while Robins like to keep it simple. To catch their food,
Robins, will catch insects while they are in the air, yet Blue Jays will chase off
other animals and hid their food. Sometimes, Blue Jays will even forget where they
hide their food. Robins and Blue jays have a good bit in common because of their diet.

they will make them on the ground. Blue Jays and Robins are amazing birds. They

39. Tony Smith Die Analysis
Die, made in 1968, is a minimalist sculptural artwork by renowned American artist
Tony Smith. Smith had originally prototyped the sculpture in 1962, when he made
a six inch cardboard model, but he did not have Die fabricated until 1968. The
final format of Die is a six foot cube of quarter inch hot rolled steel that is held
together by internal steel bracing. To have it created, Smith worked with the
Industrial Welding Company in Newark, New Jersey, which owes to its rusty,
industrial external appearance. As one of first steel sculptures, it went on to inspire
much of his later work. During exhibitions, the 500 pound steel Die sits on the floor,
inviting patrons to walk around it and view it from one or more sides at a time. As
Smith explained,

The final situation I have had concerning unclear boundaries involved me and a
professor. This individual was someone I had grown to know and respect and took
several courses under. The incident occurred after I had graduated from Western
Carolina University with my bachelor s degrees while I was living in Cullowhee
over the summer. I was invited to the professor s house along with another former
student to eat dinner with him and his wife. While we were eating the meal, the
professor gave me and the other student a glass of wine to go with dinner. Even
though I was of legal drinking age and was no longer a student of the professor s, it
felt strange to have a professor provide me alcohol.
Also, I felt uncomfortable being in the professor s home since it was the first time I
had socialized with a professor outside of a school environment. I later discussed the
event with the other student to inquire if the situation also made her uncomfortable.
The individual disclosed that she did not feel uncomfortable since this was not her
first time having dinner with the professor and his wife. I did not talk about how
this incident made me feel with my professor. The reason the boundaries were
unclear in this situation was that there was a multiple relationship. I was now the
professor s former student as well as an individual who had a social relationship with
the professor.
Unlike the two previous examples, I was not the individual with a position of power.

42. Abortion Should Be Legal Around The World
Abortion, the sound of the word can cause an environment to go from cheerful and
relaxed to tens and edgy in seconds. Abortion is one of the major controversial
topics of all time. Many consider abortion to be murder and criminal procedures
should be brought forward, they consider it to be immoral and unethical regardless
of the circumstances. They believe the reason why women exist is to bear and raise
children; their body is only a host to the unborn child and should not be tempered
with to enable the reproduction of other generation.

the rights of women and what they can do with their own bodies, while those against

What are the reasons behind having an abortion? And, does abortion solve their
problems? Pregnancy happens under different circumstances, some which are
planned and some are unplanned and are unexpected, some women are unable to
continue with their pregnancy and have no other choice. Abortion may solve the
problem of an unwanted child, but it is not the answer to all unwanted pregnancies,
in fact, many women are against it, many say that if they are given a choice between
keeping their unborn child and aborting it, 85 per cent will chose to keep the child
(Reachout.com, 2014). Abortion is not a blanket problem and we are unable to
foresee every case possible, therefore, each case must be treated appropriately and
according to the circumstances surrounding it, and a solution that best work with the
reasons should be found, rather than sweeping it under the carpet.
Some will say that induced abortion, regardless of the circumstances, should be made
illegal, but they do not know if abortion is made illegal, they would still be
performed, by unauthorised, unqualified practitioners in an unsafe environment.
Resource, financial incompetence, legal restrictions and gender discrimination,
forced some young girls and young women around the world to seek out untrained
doctors who use unsafe methods to end the pregnancy, some of the methods used may
include, swallowing bleach, drugs or induce bleeding which often results in fatal
infections. Unsafe abortion
43. Essay on London 2012 Olympics and Risk Management
Comparisons
As stated before, the Olympic Games have become a mega event in size and
complexity compared to what it was in its beginning during Athens 1896 Olympics,
when only 241 amateur athletes competed in mini sports. Therefore, the number of
risks that can take place during the even has increased significantly including aspects
such as infrastructure, finance, operations, security and including natural hazards as
well as manmade hazards.
The London Olympics 2012 (OSSSRA) has considerate different types of manmade

A Similar issue was found in the London Olympics where an increase of ВЈ25
million was attributed to the design of the velodome, after finding out the complex
foundation and ground conditions. The changes to the design of the stadium roof
also increased costs for the main stadium for London 2012. Other issue was the
unexpected fluctuations such as the increase in steel prices (Jennings, 2012).
London 2012 as well as the other Olympics games experienced an overrun of its
budget. However, London Olympics risks management helped to reduce costs and
save approximately ВЈ470 million through the release of risks (ODA, 2011).
The success of an organisation s risks management can be determined by how well
the organisation is able to distinguish risks, as there can be risks that cannot be
foreseen and others which can be avoided through planning. Looking at what
happened during the Atlanta 1996 Olympics when operational and logistic
problems cause journalist to start reporting on the glitch games , it can be said that
some risks are originated by poor decision making and misjudgements in planning
assumptions (Jennings, 2012). In the past Olympic organisers mainly focused on
reaction to a risk and ways to recover from it by developing safety plans, now
organisers consider risks mitigation as a crucial aspect for the Olympic Games. This
is the case for the London 2102 Olympics where military rehearsals were staged on

44. Imagery in Macbeth
Imagery in Macbeth Violence and the bloodshed that results are important symbols
in Shakespeare s Macbeth. While the blood that is shed is a tangible reminder of
the outcomes of misused power, it also serves as an image that provokes Macbeth to
reflect upon his deeds, even if he does not change his behavior. Macbethbecomes
obsessed with the blood on his hands. Unfortunately, this reminder of his guilt does
not prevent him from continuing violent acts.

that the Scottish nation is no longer safe for them, as the murderer may now focus his
attention on them. Hence, they escape from Scotland, Malcolm goes to England, and

Post Banquo s murder, the references to blood increase even further, with quotes
like, don t shake thy gory locks at me becoming all the more common. The
murderers, whom Macbeth had hired to kill Banquo, describe his body lying in a
ditch with twenty trenched gashes on his head . The imagery of blood is shown in
such a way that there is a profuse amount of blood flowing after every murder in the
play.
These references to blood observe their peak with Lady Macbeth s imagined blood

performed in the play. Out damned spot. Out, I say! One two! a passing reference
is also made by the second apparition to Macbeth, be bloody, bold and resolute .
Because blood forms the prologue and epilogue of every murder in the play, it sets
the ball rolling for the wave of action in the play. The fact that blood imagery

45. Prediction In Macbeth
The plot of Macbeth by Shakespeare is gotten under way apparently by the
prediction of the three witches. The prescience fans the blazes of aspiration inside of
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, serving as the essential catalyst for the couple to plot
the passing of Duncan and in this manner Banquo. Be that as it may, one likewise
ponders: Would Macbethhave carried out such horrifying wrongdoings
notwithstanding the prediction? Consider the possibility that he had overlooked the
witches announcements. Such hypothesis, however fascinating, at last seems
pointless, since the prescience itself is self satisfying. The witches know Macbeth s
terrible imperfection: given the overpowering enticement to wind up King, he will

Italy, known for its amazing food options, striking structures, rich culture, and

truly care for each other and maintaining their magnificent country. Their flag colors,
representing hope, faith and charity, paint a perfect description of what the country
truly represents. Sadly, Italyhas not always been so close knit. Italy s states were
once spread out and controlled by many different foreign leaders. In order to keep
Italy s culture and heritage from being swept away by other countries, unification
was essential. Unification is the process of becoming one or whole. As it regards to a
nation, this process occurs best when people join together to persistently pursue and
accomplish the common goal. The journey to unify Italy involved the courage and
strength of three incredible men. Giuseppe Mazzini, Giuseppe Garibaldi, and Camillo

48. Metaphors Used In Poetry
Poetry is a beautiful form of art. It can be written in many different fashions. The
author of the poem can choose to take it towards any direction they want to. The
types of themes and phrases used in the poem are the backbone of it. One of my
favorite literary devices used in poetry is metaphors. Metaphors are one of the best
literary devices to be put into a poem. Many poetry writers use metaphors. Modern
poets have an interested in the relationship of mind and matter so they use metaphors
in their writings to help fill in the gap between them (Getz). The famous poet John
Donneis known for using them throughout his writings. He used them so often I
think he tries to break his previous record of how many metaphors can I pack into
one poem every time he wrote a new one. If that is not the case then he must have
had some sort of bet going on. Half of the words that come out of my mouth
construct a metaphor but there is no way I could keep up with Donne s talent of
turning almost into a metaphor
Before we jump into Donne s works I feel the need to explain what a metaphor is.
Metaphors are a figure of speech. They compare two or more items to each other.
They are similar to similes and analogies but are used a bit differently. So similar that
Aristotle once stated that, the simile is a metaphor, differing from it only in the way
it is put (Roncero). They are often mistaken for a simile or analogy. The biggest
distinction between them is that a metaphor does not

s parents wanted him to grow up embracing his whole complex ethnic heritage and
not being more Chinese than Irish. It could be that his parents yearned to show
Luke what being Chinese really means its language, its culture, and its people. With
this knowledge, he might feel confident to display this part of his identity. It could
also be that they have a deep rooted bias for Luke not to ignore his Chinese
heritage, thinking they know what is best for him. It is like what Emerson once

51. Separation Of Methylene Chloride And Hydrochloric Acid
The process of extraction removes a desired compound from a mixture. Because
molecules with similar intermolecular forces are more soluble in one another, organic
compounds are usually dissolved in organic solvents. Based on the solubility
differences of the organic solution and water, when mixed, two distinct layers form.
Sometimes, small amounts of the solventmay dissolve in water. To prevent
contamination of the product, a drying agent is added to absorb the water molecule.
The organic solvent is evaporated from the organic compound through the use of a
rotary evaporator. It is a quick process that reduces the pressure and thus the boiling
point of a liquid. In this experiment, eugenol was separated from mixtures containing
methylene chloride and hexane. If was predicted that methylene chloride would be
the most effective solvents due to its immiscibility to water and low boiling point.
Procedure
First, 0.210 g of eugenol, deionized water and methylene chloride were poured into
a separatory funnel. The funnel was shaken and vented 2 3 times. It was placed onto
a ring clamp until two layers formed. Then, the top and bottom layers were slowly
filtered out into two different beakers. Next, MgSo4 was added to the top layer
solution until ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order for the two layers to form, the solvent had to be immiscible in H2O. Based on
their chemical structures, acetone, ethanol, and ethyl acetate are polar molecules This
makes them miscible in water. Methylene Chloride is polar, but does not form
Hydrogen bonds with H2O. Hexane is nonpolar (Figure 1). Therefore, these two
solvents are immiscible in water. At the end of the experiment, the solvent would be
evaporated from the solution. Thus, a solvent with a low boiling point was more
desirable. The two solvents selected were methylene chloride and hexane with
boiling points of respectively 36.9 C and 68 C (Table

Introduction Mass murder is defined by the FBI as the killing of three or more
people in a single event or in the same day (Petersen Farrington, 2007). Mass
murderers are complex and can be examined by the many factors that regularly appear
among them, such as violence precipitating events, weapon of choice, and mental
illnesses. The motivations and methods for committing mass murderare easily broken
down into specific groups, and through the examination of these definitions and
specific cases there is much to learn about the mind of a mass murderer.

The event of mass murder as known today, postal workers going postal and school
massacres, has been emerging as a more regular occurrence throughout the last
century (Lester, Stack, Schmidtke, Schuller Muller, 2005). Starting with the Vietnam
War era, there have been an increasing number of mass murders, which share a
causal link to the increased militarization of American Society. The introduction of
semiautomatic weapons in mainstream society gives the opportunity for explosive
and gratuitously violent events such as have been seen in recent years (Hamamoto,
2002). The increase in graphically violent war movies and first person video games,
full of violent images and massive destruction, lend a hand in the building of a
society that is hyperaware of war level violence.
Legal Concerns
The central legal concern associated with mass murder has been gun control. More
specifically the aftermath of Columbine can be examined to show the range of gun
control concerns. A result of the Columbine massacre, the most terrible mass shooting
in United States history, was the media calling for more gun control and identifying
too many guns and too little control as the cause of the attack (Kelck, 2009). It is
important to note that while this attack was horrendous, it comes nowhere close to
the number of victims in
