life in early seventeenth century Belgium. Born in 1564 or 1565 in Brussels, Belgium, Pieter
Brueghel the Youngerwas a Flemish painter best known for being the oldest son of the notable

(Artnet, 2016). Following the passing of both of his parents, Brueghel the Younger and his siblings

Contemporary dance was developed in the early 20th century as a movement against the rigid
technique of ballet (Blackfish Arts Acadamy, 2006). Using the natural lines of the body to create
new movements, the contemporary dance style usually has more fluidity than that of conventional
dance styles (Freeman, 2013). In the book Beginning Modern Dance, Miriam Giguere says The
function of dance is communication. . . . By communication is not meant to tell a story or to
project an idea, but to communicate experience by means of action . . . out of this came a different
use of the body as an instrument, as the violin is an instrument. Body is the basic instrument,

A forerunner in the changing face of modern dance was choreographer and performer Martha
Graham. Graham took up dance at the age of 22, during the time when women were fighting for

never to be seen again (Kramer 2). For over 400 years, historians and archeologists have
attempted to determine what happened. Although there are several popular theories regarding
the disappearance of the Lost Colony, the theory with the most evidence for being accurate is
the migration theory. The two previous expeditions that had been sent to this region by Sir

part of this tradition before I graduate and leave my more than a decade long alma mater. I also

my social responsibility as a student in the Assumption community.
However, I had underestimated how this journey would impact my own identity. I entered this
odyssey without much prior knowledge on what would happen and what exactly we would be

group, consisting of only five high school students and a couple of teacher chaperones, was based in

One of our assigned tasks was to repaint the playground. Our first thoughts were that this would
be easy and even fun to do, but we were quickly proven wrong. It was difficult to repaint the
playground under the scorching sun, and the paint fumes were also a factor that made this hard
for us. But after we ve done our part for this task, we were assigned to help out in the school s
bookstore, wherein we covered notebooks in plastic wrap. It seemed to be a menial task, but it
