Mit Admission Essay
Crafting an essay for admission to MIT is an intricate task that demands a unique blend of
intellect, creativity, and self-expression. The challenge lies not only in meeting the academic
standards but in capturing your essence within the confines of a limited word count. MIT,
renowned for its cutting-edge research and innovation, seeks individuals who not only excel
academically but also showcase a profound passion for their chosen field.
The difficulty intensifies as you strive to strike a balance between humility and confidence,
articulating your achievements and aspirations without veering into arrogance. The admissions
committee seeks more than just a list of accomplishments; they aim to understand your
motivations, resilience, and the personal experiences that have shaped your journey.
Moreover, the challenge lies in avoiding clichГ©s and generic statements, steering clear of the
well-trodden path and presenting a narrative that is distinctly yours. It requires a meticulous
examination of your life, distilling the essence of your identity and ambitions into a concise yet
compelling piece.
The struggle is not only with the content but also with the constant self-doubt that accompanies
such a task. Will your essay stand out among countless others? Does it effectively convey your
uniqueness? These questions can make the writing process even more formidable.
However, as challenging as it may be, the process of writing an MIT admission essay is also an
opportunity for self-discovery and growth. It forces you to introspect, evaluate your journey,
and articulate your goals with clarity. The difficulty is not merely a hurdle but an essential part of
the transformative journey towards self-expression.
In conclusion, the task of crafting an essay for MIT admission is undeniably demanding,
requiring a delicate balance of intellect, self-awareness, and effective communication. Yet, it is
through overcoming these challenges that you can present a genuine and compelling narrative.
Remember, it is not just about proving your qualifications but about conveying your passion and
potential in a way that resonates with the MIT ethos.
And for those who find themselves grappling with this task, there are resources available.

Ecological Economics Vs. Neoclassical Welfare Economics
Essay
Ecological Economics vs Neoclassical Welfare Economics
In the past, the economic school of thought regarded the resources as unlimited and
focused on more production under the light of the unlimited growth assumption.
Every economic action was suggested to only consider about making more profit.
While the economy and the human population are growing; more natural resources
are used and more pollution is observed. Human become to deal with the results of its
production such as environmental problems and resource scarcity. A debate has
emerged in economics and the mainstream economics is brought into question since
its unlimited growth assumption is collapsed. Ecological economists argue the
neoclassical welfare economics for ignoring the environmental and ethic values by
only focusing on the cost benefit analysis. It also claims that the neoclassical
economics fails to calculate the value of the environmental capital and the loss of the
economic activities on the environment. This paper is going to explain the problems
with the neoclassical welfare economics and the alternatives offered by the ecological
economics in terms of economic growth and environment.
The neoclassical welfare economics explains the economic production and behavior
by using the mainstream terms of economic literature. Specifically, it focuses on the
Pareto efficiency and suggests two theorems related to it. Firstly, the Pareto efficiency
is stated by maximization of preferences under a restricted
Time And Time Again We Witness Minorities Fall Victim To
Time and time again we witness minorities fall victim to the cycle of poverty and
violence. As each generation passes by, they are unable to release themselves of the
conditions they grew up with and are familiar with. Based on a 2016 survey, it
revealed that there were nearly three times as many blacks and Latinos living in
povertyin the U.S compared to whites (Poverty Rate by Race/Ethnicity). With
statistics like these, it leads me to wonder why minorities are more likely to live a
life of poverty and violence. Although some may say that it is purely due to a lack of
motivation to improve their lives, they ignore the reality of institutional racism and
the psychological affects which play a role in enforcing the longevity of the poverty...

The government also tends to forget about cities plunged into poverty and choose to
fund housing projects in more affluent parts to increase their potential revenue.
There have been reports showing that Segregation levels rose with levels of black
population growth, suggesting that public housing policies were a response from
white elites in government to isolate blacks into certain areas, away from high
paying business districts (Bickford and Massey 1991). This form of racism allows
minority groups to suffer while whites prosper.
Hand in hand with the lack of affordable and livable housing conditions, minorities
face difficulties with employment opportunities in these areas. Those who live in
poor cities are automatically disadvantaged because many employers migrate from
these cities to prosperous ones to increase their income. If they were to stay in
poverty ridden towns, they could potentially file for bankruptcy because their
consumers are unable to afford what employers have to offer. As more businesses
move away, the less opportunities citizens have to pull themselves out of poverty. A
lack of revenue flowing through the city also contributes to its increase of poor
citizens. Topdog/underdog exemplifies this through Booth s unemployment and
Lincoln s low wage job. When it comes to Booth, he resorts to theft rather than
searching for employment. The lack of opportunities led this man to believe that
stealing was his only option to obtain possessions. Along with
A Cream Cracker Under the Settee
How does Alan Bennett create a character that it both comical and sad? Explain why
he wrote this monologue.
A Cream Cracker under the Settee is a monologue of a character named Doris, who is
in her 70 s and is coming to the end of her life. She fell whilst cleaning a picture of
her and her deceased husband Wilfred on their wedding day, in her living room
where most of the play is set.
The writer Alan Bennett , reveals allot about old aged pensioners through Doris, She
portrays the typical old lady, who uses speech that we wouldn t normally use in this
day and age. Many old people have petty concerns that they obsess over; Doris s petty
concerns are cleanliness and hygiene which in most ways makes the audience laugh
throughout the play. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What really does get on Doris s nerves is the way that Doris leaves the gate open
when she leaves, so that all day she can hear the alarming echo of the crashing gate
which makes Doris s ears quake. Being as the gate is open makes it seem like
nobody is home, which invites small irritating children to use her garden as a toilet.
When this happens Doris gets very mad because she can t get up and tell them to get
lost.
Doris is very `judgemental` towards Zulema. She sees her as an arrogant controlling
cleaner, who can t clean for her life. Doris thinks that she doesn t need Zulema there
at all, that she can look after herself, she can cope perfectly well on her own even
though she knows it is a lie. Zulema is constantly telling Doris s that her next and
last home will be Stafford house and I am the only person who stands between you
and Stafford house and follows Zulema how is she coping? Wouldn t she be better
off in Stafford house? which also frightens Doris into being tough. Zulema bosses
Doris about allot, tells her what to do all the time for example, Doris, the ewbank is
out of bounds You don t have to clean the bath. Let the dirt wait. It won t kill you .
Doris is allot older than Zulema and feels like she should have earned some respect
because of her age and her past experiences, also
The Great Smog Of 1952
The Great Smog of 1952
The great smog of 1952 occurred December 5th 1952 in London England. The smog
was so thick and black that it paralyzed the city. What caused the great smog was a
cold snap that kept all the pollutants trapped in, all the pollutants came from the coal
that was being burned to heat houses. This smog effected the environment in many
different ways. It particularly effected the elderly, babies or people with respiratory
and cardio vascular problems. Death rates where significantly higher than normal on
the 8th through the 9th, as many as 900 lives a day. pneumonia, bronchitis,
tuberculosis and heart failure where what caused a portion of the deaths. The primary

The people where becoming more aware of the connection between burning coal and
atmospheric pollution. The people of london also became more aware of the
negative health effects that where caused by burning the coal. The public s
demand for change became so large that in 1956 the government took action. The
British government gave the local government authority to provide the funds to the
people to replace the coal heaters. They replaced their coal heaters with more
environment friendly heaters such as oil, gas electricity, and or smokeless coal.
This change came with laws that where immediately enforced. These restrictions
banned the use of dirty fuels. they also enforced the clean air act in 1956. The
clean air act outlawed the burning of coal for heat. 12 years later in 1968 another
important act was passed. This act called for factories to have taller chimneys, Taller
chimneys would take the air pollutants from burning coal in these factories and
release it higher in to the atmosphere. The act of 1968 stopped the immediate effects
of air pollution but also created some problem. having taller chimneys created a
problem, the usage of taller chimneys pushed the pollutants higher in the atmosphere

Welfare Programs Cause Crime Essay
Controlling violent crime is largely a state and local responsibility, declare Robert
Moffit, Edwin Meese, and Patrick Fagan of the Heritage Foundation. State and local
officials, they say, should take the initiative to identify and target the hard core
criminals who are committing the majority of crimes and implement tough policies to
put them behind bars and keep them there. Mounting evidence shows that this
approach works.
Attacking the root causes of crime also makes sense, provided those causes are
correctly identified. Poverty, for instance, does not cause crime. The real root cause
of crime is family breakdown, the three analysts contend. They point out that
fatherless children regardless of socioeconomic and racial ... Show more content on

Robert Rector, also of the Heritage Foundation, reports that the United States has
invested nearly $7 trillion in programs that provide cash, food, housing, and medical
and social services to poor and low income Americans. But, he observes, while the
nation was pouring this flood of resources into the War on Poverty, most of its social
problems got worse, not better. In its wake, a deluge of illegitimacy, crime, drug
abuse, and welfare dependency has besieged America.
Rector concludes that we get what we pay for. For 30 years, the welfare system paid
for non work and non marriage, and it has achieved massive increases in both. By
undermining the work ethic and rewarding illegitimacy, he explains, the welfare
system has insidiously generated its own clientele. The more money that is spent, the
more people in apparent need of aid appear.
Rector argues that welfare has bribed individuals into courses of behavior that, in the
long run, are self defeating, harmful to children, and increasingly a threat to society.
Welfare s most ominous feature, he contends, is its corrosive effect on family
structure its policies have driven up illegitimacy, which in turn has been a powerful
factor that contributes to almost every other current social problem. Rector
recommends returning to traditional charity, which recognizes that one way handouts
usually hurt those they are intended to help. True charity, he
Chinese Immigration To America In The 1800 s
For centuries, America has been created, formed, and shaped through the ideas,
cultures, and beliefs of other countries that are brought to America through
immigration. Some say that immigration is something that is necessary for American
development and improvement. Each different culture, religion, and group that
migrates to America has affected the country in its own unique way. One culture that
greatly affected the lives of those living in America in the 1800 s was the Chinese.
For many different reasons, thousands of Chinese found themselves immigrating to
America, causing the population of their culture to grow rapidly. Although this
created all new opportunities for Chinese men struggling to feed their families,
American s at the time took offense to their migration, and were not happy with the
amount of jobs... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many came here seeking a better life, others to be with their families. Today,
hundreds of thousands of Chinese citizens can consider the United States their home.
It was not always like this, though. The first Chinese immigrants were mostly young
men, coming here seeking a job to provide for their families back home. After the
gold rush that supplied thousands of Chinese with jobs, many of the men returned
back home to China. One of the big reasons that sent many Chinese men fleeing to
America and other countries, was the decline in Chinese economy after the Opium
War in 1842. After their crushing defeat in this war, more and more Chinese
immigrants came to America on a long term scale. They found work as agricultural
laborers, on railroad construction crews throughout the West, and in low paying
industrial jobs. Despite their reasoning to come here, each Chinese immigrant had
one thing in common. They each brought their language, culture, customs, and beliefs
to the country. By 1882, there were over 110,000 documented Chinese immigrants

Essay On Loving Vs Virginia
Although there were no federal laws regarding interracial marriage at the time of
the dispute, each state had their own stance and set of laws. In fact, Virginia [was]
one of 16 States which prohibit[ed] and punish[ed] marriages on the basis of racial
classifications, and this practice of banning interracial marriages arose[d] as an
incident to slavery and [had] been common in Virginia since the colonial period
(Loving v. Virginia). Also, after the ratification of the Racial Integrity Act of 1924,
which stated that no caucasian person could ever mix bloods with any other race
such as African American or Native America in Virginia, miscegenation
was outlawed
in Virginia in to the hopes to maintain pure white bloodlines (Loving v. Virginia;
Wolfe). The local Virginia government later stated that it was not a racist or unequal
law since both members, both white and black or native american, who participated
in an interracial marriagewould be punished (Loving v. Virginia). However, times
were changing, and as the Civil Rights progressed, ideas of separate but equal
brought about by the case Plessy v. Ferguson were no longer current.
Mildred Jeter was an African American and Native American woman who grew up in
Central Point, Virginia (Martin; Mildred Loving ). Even though her school was
separate from the white schools, her community was lenient on interracial
relationships and fraternization ( Mildred Loving ). Richard Loving, a white man

The Making of a Human Resources Department Essay
Serving as a Human Resources Manager for a rapidly growing organization in
Southern California often proves to be both challenging and rewarding. The
organization I happily work for, New American Funding (NAF) is one of the nation s
leading mortgage bankers. Coming into this organization, I had spent time working in
Human ResourcesManagement roles, but in all fairness, nothing could have prepared
me for the role with NAF.
When I was interviewed for the role as human resources manager, I was lead to
believe by a rather persuasive recruiter that there were nearly 200 employees and
the company was looking to double in the next year or two. I was nervous to
develop a role in a company that was already this large where I would be managing

It has been over two years since those interviews. When I joined NAF they had 384
employees, I ran a report last week and we had 903 employees. I was alerted to the
fact that the mortgage industry experienced cyclical changes, but I was informed our
company didn t experience change like most in the industry. I have learned so much
being with NAF.
In 2013 NAF experienced unsurmountable change, the company hired 699 people,
unfortunately we also had a Reduction in Force due to the change in the market and
mortgage rate increases. This created a huge difference in our call center division
and we were forced to eliminate positions. In 2013 between hires, terminations,
resignations and reduction in force position eliminations, the Human Resources
Department had nearly 1200 employee transactions. Performance management was
crucial to the vast changes that we experienced as a company. Opening new
branches and ensuring that the recruiting efforts aligned with our company goals,
vision and mission. The planning of benefits and pay was rapidly adjusted as well
as learning new state regulations opening new branch locations in Washington,
Colorado, Texas, Nevada, and Arizona in 2013 alone. Being present, accountable
and informed is not only necessary for my role; it is required to ensure that I can
build rapport with my employees.
I will never forget the first termination I had while at NAF. It was
Learning Behaviors And Their Own Way Of Learning
Specific...
Every individual has their own way of learning specific behaviors. Some behaviors
are learned through teaching while other behaviors are learned unknowingly.
Unknowingly, meaning not anticipating on automatically learning something;
however becoming involved in a specific kind of environment. Many people learn
behaviors from the environment that surrounds them and some people learn
behaviors from people who influence them outside of their comfort zones. Some
people admire change and adapt quickly while others take a while to become
accustom to change. Many individuals learn new things in different ways. Often
times growing up, a child learns their spoken language through their parents and
family members. For a child that is Spanish, he or she learns from the womb to
speak Spanish and as they become introduced to different languages that surround
them, they become accustomed to multiple languages. When a person grows up in
a specific environment, they learn to adapt to those beliefs whether its religion or
what is considered to be acceptable in their daily life; however some children as
they get older begin to follow their own beliefs set aside from their parents beliefs.
Each and every culture is taught differently and because of that some people don t
necessarily understand the reason behind everyone s beliefs; however from a
personal perspective some people grow out of beliefs into their own overtime. An
example is those who grow up being taught to follow a specific
What Is John Locke And Positive Law
John Locke is one of the most influential philosopher in the modern age. He is also
known for his contribution towards in both epistemology and political philosophy.
In his book Two Treatise of Government , he strongly supported that men are by
nature free and that everyone is equal and against the idea that God made people to
live under a monarch. He strongly emphasized about the law of nature, state of
nature, and property. He claimed that men are naturally free and equal and how the
people as a social contract, give or transfer some of their rights to the government to
enhance the protection the people need in order to enjoy their life, liberty, and their
property. But Locke also gives some important reasons for his defense of the right of
revolution. He also defends the principle of how the majority rule and the separation

The concept of natural law existed long before Locke even existed. It was a way
of expressing the idea that the people had some righteous regardless of where they
lived or the agreements that they made. The most earliest distinction between laws
were the distinguish between natural law and positive law. So what is natural law
and positive law? Natural law begins with the idea that all of our rights came or
comes from God or nature and that it is inherited from generations to generations.
But on the other hand, positive law believes that our rights are given or
acknowledged by the government, society or any being and that it clearly states that
it can not be taken away once given. Positive law supports the concept of social
justice in which it tries to overthrow natural law and create an artificial equality
through control or by force. This particular law goes against the basis of human
nature. It basically means that all the laws created by man are secondary to natural
law which then obtains from human nature
Why Does The Nephilim Exist
The reader has been presented the case that the Nephilim are living among us. In
modernity, the Nephilim stay hidden, minimizing any interaction with humans. A
thousand years ago the Nephilim were spread throughout the world, interacting with
humans and well known. The existence and influence of the Nephilim were part of
the humancondition. Then approximately a thousand years ago, the Nephilim
mysteriously began to disappear.
This mysterious disappearance appears to have been caused by a supernatural force.
In my opinion, this force caused a purging of the Nephilim that inhabited the world.

Advantages Of Staying At Home Vs Movie Theater
When thinking about a trip to the movie theater, what comes to mind? Most may
think of the delicious, perfectly cooked, buttered popcorn, and huge movie screen
with surround sound. While others may think of the obnoxiously loud atmosphere
and inconvenient show times. Everyone has their opinion on which movie viewing
option they think is better; the movie theater, or home. When it boils down to the
facts, it is not hard to see why staying at home is the prefered movie watching
experience over the the movie theater experience, the reasons why this may be so is
the cost, the inconvenience of show times, and viewing options
The Cost
The first point to consider is the cost. Movie theater tickets and concession prices are
always on the rise. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Show Times
Another point to consider is the inconvenient show times. Often, movie theater
showtimes seem to be impossible to work around or plan for. This can especially
be the case for people who work a job during the day. For example, if a woman
wanted to go see a movie with her friend after work, the planning around the movie
theater showtimes becomes very tedious quickly. If the woman gets off at five,
then that automatically knocks out the 5:00 movie viewing time. The next
available show time isn t until 7:30, but she has work the next day and she needs
to get home at a decent hour in the day. Therefore she has to cancel her plans with
her friend solely due to the fact that the movie theater only had certain viewing
times that weren t catering to her schedule. On the contrary, show times at home are
a 24 7 deal. Anytime a person feels like watching a movie at home is the perfect
time. We are able to watch virtually any movie at any time with the click of a remote
button or the tap of an app on our smart phones. Therefore, making the home movie
viewing experience the ultimate choice because of the convenient 24 7 showtimes.
The Viewing Options
The last point to consider is the viewing options. According to Pew Research
Center (2006) 58% of people don t go out to the movie theater more often is due to
the fact that there are too few good movies to see( pg 3.) And it s not hard to see

Lucy Pevensie In The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe
Once there were four children whose names were Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy
(Lewis 3). In the book the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, all
Lucy Pevensie wants is freedom. She wants to get away from the egregious war and
bombings. She wants her dad to be back from the hostile war and her mum to be safe
with them. She wants to play games with her three elder siblings to end the vexatious
quarreling amongst them and to excite the strict boredom of the old country house. In
all of her wants, nothing stops her persistent cheerfulness and confident attitude. Lucy
Pevensiediscovers the importance of the noble qualities which shape her into a
valorous hero through traveling to the magical land of Narnia.
Since the beginning of the tale, Lucy Pevensie shows her personality through her
spunky attitude, persevering faith and valiant courage. Despite the wretched situation
of the war, and the sad separation from her parents so the children could live safer in
the country, Lucy s attitude remains positive the entire way through. Even when her
siblings skeptically doubt her ridiculous adventure in a magical world inside a

In Elizabeth Svoboda s article, Could You Be a Hero , explains two major versions
of a hero. On one end of the spectrum you have feats of everyday heroism, like
helping someone cross the street. These good deeds are relatively low risk. And on
the other end, you have high stakes heroism, like rescuing someone from a burning
building. Both are important. Lucy Pevensie had both of these heroic exploits.
Living her normal life with her family, she dealt with each of her siblings through
the perspective of a true hero, by calming quarreling and asserting cheerfulness as
well as peace. Venturing into the extraordinary land of Narnia, Lucy continues the
everyday heroism but additionally becomes a more epic hero by risking her life and

Social Classes In Daphne Du Maurier s Rebecca
The book Rebecca written by Daphne du Maurier, published in 1938, is known to
be a gothic novel, however, the differences between social classes is clearly
depicted throughout the novel. Rebecca was written in the point of view of a low
class, young girl in her mid twenties, whose name was never revealed. The narrator
started of as a companion of a rich American woman, Mrs. Van Hopper, and later
went on to marry the owner of Manderley, Maxim De Winter. Manderley was a
very popular mansion that was enjoyed by many of the high and middle class
citizens. The differences of social classes is clearly depicted by Daphne du Maurierin

During the Fancy Ball scene the superiority of the high class is seen like it has not
been seen. Before the ball, Lady Crowan made a very demeaning comment toward
the narrator when she suggested how the narrator should dress: You d look sweet,
Mrs. de Winter, dressed as a little Dresden shepherdess, your hair tucked under a big
three cornered hat. I thought of my clumsy hands and feet and the slope of my
shoulders (du Maurier Chapter 16). The narrator knew that Lady Crowan said this
to shame her and prove to her that she is not cut out to be part of the high class.
Even Mrs. Danvers, the narrator s maid that loved Rebecca, tries to show the
narrator that she should not be part of the high class: Why did you ever come
here? she said. Nobody wanted you at Manderley. We were all right until you
came. Why did you not stay where you were out in France? (du Maurier Ch. 18).
Mrs. Danvers is trying to convince the narrator that she is not wanted at Manderley
and should never had married Maxim. Moreover, Mrs. Danvers believes that the
narrator is trying to take Rebecca s place as Mrs. De Winter. The narrator is
continuously being reminded that she will never be accepted as part of the high
Branagh s Soliloquy In Hamlet
A famous part of the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare is the soliloquy in which
Hamlet himself proclaims, To be or not to be that is the question. Here the reader
sees Hamlet for the truly unstable and confused man he is. Also, the reader is able
to compare Shakespeare s version of the soliloquy to the production of it by actor
Kenneth Branagh. Seeing both the video clip and the text, allows the reader to
experience a deeper overall meaning than just one medium by itself. In the Folger s
edition of Hamlet, the soliloquyis in Act 3 Scene 1 where Claudius is realizing the
true threat that Hamlet is towards him. Hamlet is slipping into a state of haze
where the more he knows about other people s actions, the more he will think and
be in his head. Hamlet is thinking about the actions of his uncle who killed his
father and the presence of the ghost, wondering if it would be better for him to die
instead of continuing to go mad. He says, To die, To... Show more content on

Kenneth Branagh proclaims his lines while staring directly into a mirror. The
crazed look in his eyes as he debates whether it is better to live or to die,
exemplifies how unsteady Hamlet is. Furthermore, he intensifies the scene by
pulling out a dagger and swirling it around his head. It is almost as if he is toying
with death, knowing that stabbing himself with the dagger could cause him to die.
The viewer is able to see that Hamlet is not completely there and that he is
overtaken by his madness. Alone, the scene is very influential and lets the readers
see how the text plays out. Pairing the text with this scene gives an image of the
emotions Hamlet could have been feeling. It puts more into the overall presentation
of the soliloquy by making it more real life as if one was seeing it as a play. Every
actor chooses a different way to portray this scene but Kenneth Branagh decided to

Beowulf, The Epic Hero
In Anglo Saxon times, Beowulf is considered a well known epic hero. Epic heroes
are literary characters from ancient mythology and other stories, which were written
down in the form of long, narrative epic poems. The hero is the main character, or
protagonist of the poem ( Epic Hero: Definition, Characteristics Examples. ). The epic
hero usually battles for accomplishments to a set of tasks to complete important
goals. Beowulf is described as an epic hero because of his honor, bravery, and
intelligence. One of the major fights that make Beowulf an epic hero is the fight
with Grendel. Grendel is a monster spawned out of slime. He terrorizes and kills
the Danes every night for 12 years with their attempt of fighting back. Beowulf
hears about Grendel and decides to take matters in his own hand. He chose fifteen
warriors to go and battle with him. On the way he meets a king named Hrothgar.
Beowulf introduces himself and they go to the hall to meet the other warriors.
During the night, Beowulf stays up and waits for Grendel to come out. Grendel
comes out and kills a male then Beowulf wrestles him and puts up a good fight.
Grendel notices Beowulf strength and starts to panic. Grendel knew at once that
nowhere on earth Had he met a man whose hands were harder; His mind was
flooded with fear but nothing could take his talons and himself from that tight Hard
grip. ( Beowulf. : A
How Did The Welfare State Set Up After Ww2
The Beveridge report was published in 1942 and is also known as the report on
Social Insurance and Allied Services. It strongly influenced the founding of the
welfare state. The economist William Beveridge, also a Liberal politician, was set
the task of setting up a plan of post war social reconstruction and claimed society
had 5 Giant Evils : squalor, ignorance, want (poverty), idleness (unemployment), and
disease, which had to be tackled to create a better Britain. His reform was meant to
address these issues within society by setting up a welfare state. The Beveridge report
is the basis of the welfare state and extremely popular with the British citizens. After
the war, the Labour party attempted to set up what Beveridge had suggested.

The British people were meant to receive aid regardless of their incomes. The poor
or homeless were meant to be helped and everyone was entitled to free healthcare.
The social security aspect introduced the Family Allowances Act in 1945 which
gave families 5 shillings a week for each child that was born after the first. During
this year it also introduced the National Insurance Act which meant they would pay
the unemployed for duration of six months and also pay people who were unwell
and not able to work until they got better. The following year the insurance for
Industrial Injuries Act was introduced and allowed benefits to people who were
injured at work. In 1948 the National Assistance Act gave benefits to anybody in need

Compare And Contrast The American Empire And Ottoman
Empire
Throughout history there has been times when empire building and expansion were
very popular. During the Early Modern Era, from 1450 1750, this occurred a lot. The
European, Russian, Chinese, Mughal and, Ottoman empires were all being built
around the same time. An empire is a group of states or countries under one supreme
ruler. When the empireis divided by an ocean or has part of it distant from the other,
the part away from the mainland is known as a colony and the homeland is the
Mother Country. This took place many times during this time period when the
Americas were first discovered by people native to the Eastern Hemisphere. Between
1450 and 1750 AD, the European, and the Russian, Chinese, Mughal and Ottoman
empires were similar... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The European empires colonized the Americas, so they had to cross the Atlantic
ocean to get there. This gave them more goods to trade with because the Americas
had different natural resources than Europe and Asia. The empires without colonies
had faster trade because there wasn t that great distance but the new things they
needed they got from the empires with colonies in the Americas. The empires with
the colonies in America had the advantage. The European Empires were also different
from the Russian, Chinese, Mughal, and Ottoman Empires in that Europe hurt the
unintentionally natives of the land they took over while the other empires did not.
Since Europe was building empires in another continent, many things would be
different. A major difference was the immune systems of the people. The europeans
had immunities to certain diseases such as bubonic plague, pneumonic plague,,
influenza, measles, scarlet fever, smallpox, and tuberculosis, because they had been
exposed to them before. Since the Native Americans were never exposed to them,
they never built immunities. When the Europeans came to the Americans they
carried the diseases without knowing. Making majority of the population sick.
Tribe after tribe they died because they could not fight these diseases. This clearly
made more room for the Europeans but in a tragic way. Similarly, the European
Empires were different from the Russian, Chinese, Mughal, and Ottoman Empires in
their reasonings for expansion. Europe expanded across the Atlantic Ocean because
they were geographically at an advantage. They had access to this new land the for
the other places to get to it would either take too long or they would physically have
to go through the European s land to get there. They had this advantage and took it

Atomic bomb is a weapon powered by nuclear fission or nuclear fusion which has the
most powerful of destruction. Recently, we call it nuclear weapon instead of the

energy from the nuclei of atoms bond.
The birth of atomic bomb
Research on the atomic bomb was taking place in Germany and other countries but in

Macular Degeneration Research Paper
Macular degeneration is the leading cause of sight loss in the United Kingdom. It
is usually age related, occurring in 1 in 10 people over 65. In macular
degeneration, the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) at the back of the macula in the
eye, which supports the rod and cone cells vital to central vision, stops functioning.
This results in the death of rod and cone cells, resulting in the loss of central
vision. There are two types of macular degeneration: wet, and dry. Dry macular
degeneration is the most common type and typically causes central vision loss over
several months or years. Wet macular degeneration is rare, causing central vision
loss in several days or weeks. There is currently no cure for macular degeneration

Matthew Yglesias Against Transparency
In Against Transparency, author Matthew Yglesias argues that the emails of public
officials should be afforded the same level of privacy as granted to phone calls and
other private conversations. His arguments fall primarily into a couple categories.
The first is that email is a necessary and convenient way to facilitate communication,
and forcing officials to monitor what they say or reveal in emails when any
scandalous information could simply be transmitted through other mediums does
nothing but impede that communication. The second is that forced email disclosure
is generally not an effective way to for the public to receive information, and that
proponents of transparency should instead focus on improving the quality of
information the governmentvoluntarily releases. Yglesias focusses primarily on the
common sense flaws that come with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As stated above, increasing access to a single form of electronic communication in
2016 is simply too limited an approach to do anything but hamper government.
Additionally, the pursuit of such measures can often come at the expense of more
effective and realistic methods of monitoring government action. Yglesias
describes the FOIA process as a very slow, highly adversarial process that is
primarily useful to people with an ax to grind. For a national government as
unimaginably vast as the United States , this is not a satisfactory primary tool for
forcing disclosure. Yglesias proposes an alternative, however, in the form of routine
publication of what it knows. This is certainly the more attractive option. The
dynamic created by the FOIA process where disclosure is a forced and drawn out
process is not one to foster any sense of trust in

Role Of The Family Nurse Practitioner
The Role of the Family Nurse Practitioner in Advanced Nursing Practice Although
advanced nursing practice is a broad field with several roles defined within, the
author of this essay has identified the role of the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) as
the focus for this assignment. The FNP role was selected as it is the specialty track in
which the author is furthering his professional nursing education. The Family Nurse
Practitioneris a Registered Nurse (RN) who possesses advanced clinical training,
skills, and competencies acquired through the completion of a Master s or Doctoral
nursing degree in order to provide family centered primary care to individuals across
the lifespan. (American Association of Nurse Practitioners [AANP], 2015). Family
Nurse Practitioners practice independently in several states, although some states
require that a collaborative agreement with a physicianbe in place. The scope of
practice of the FNP mirrors that of a Family Physician and the education and
training of the FNP overlaps into the specialty area of Family Medicine in that
conducting physical examinations, diagnosing, ordering and interpreting tests, as
well as prescribing medications are intricate parts of their responsibilities; much like
a primary care physician s. Because of the more holistic nature of the nursing
profession, there are some unique characteristics that differentiate an FNP from other
primary care providers. There is a marked focus on the well being of the
Union General William Tecumseh Sherman s Carolina
Campaign...
Union General William Tecumseh Sherman s Carolina campaign during the
American Civil War led to the capital of South Carolina in the city of Columbia in
early 1865. Sherman was employing a new military strategy of total war, in which he
considered the civilian population and their property as military targets. Upon hearing
of Sherman s march toward Columbia, the Confederate cavalry General Wade
Hampton faced the reality that Columbia would be lost to Sherman.
The question for Hampton was how to prepare for the invasion of Columbia with a
focus on the disposition of supplies ranging from cotton, food, and alcohol, to
military related supplies such as ammunition, rifles, and cannons. It was both obvious
and imperative to the Confederacy that the Union could not take possession of these
supplies, since this would simultaneously help the Union and seriously hurt the
Confederacy. Additionally, the presence of the cotton would make the potential of
fire a real danger for the citizenry and the buildings in which they lived, worked,
gathered, and prayed.
Confederate General Wade Hampton unsuccessfully employed the tenants of the
current U.S. Army mission command philosophy during the Union General Sherman
s campaign through South Carolina. Hampton s failure to follow the yet to be written
philosophy of mission command both before and during Sherman s occupation of
Columbia directly destroyed what little chance of winning the war the South may
have clung to. Conversely, General
The Trial Process For A Criminal Case
Introduction There are many aspects of the pre trial process for a criminal case.
First step of the process begins with the persons arrest. A suspect is then booked
into the system and may be able to post bail. Then comes the arraignment and they
maybe a possible plea bargain and then a preliminary hearing if no plea bargain is
reached. Two Types of Crimes In Pretrial criminal cases there are two types of
crimes, misdemeanors and felonies. There are two events that can occur. One is a
criminal complaint and the other is a warrantless arrest. A warrantless arrest can
happen if someone commits a crime right in the presence of an officer. The officer
does not have time to go get an arrest warrant and go find the suspect. So in this case

Some jurisdictions don t require an initial appearance by the suspect. The suspect
should be brought before a judge within a reasonable amount of time, ideally less
than 6 hours. The initial appearance advises the suspect of the reason for
detainment, their right to have appointed counsel, their protection against self
incrimination. Bail can also be set at this point. The initial appearance is usually a
brief hearing. Probable Cause Hearing The 4th Amendment requires that a
probable cause hearing be held if an arrest is made without a warrant. The purpose
of the probable cause hearing is to determine if there is probable cause to hold a
person in custody. To prevent prolonged confinement the probable cause hearing is
usually held quickly to determine the validity of the arrest charges. A neutral party
needs to determine the validity so that the suspect is not detained unnecessarily as
detainment affects their income and family. Bail If someone has been arrested for a
minor offense and does not pose a flight risk they may be eligible for pre trial
release. If there is a chance the suspect might not show up for court then they are
likely to remain jailed until their court date. To insure that a suspect will show up for
their court date they are required to post bail. This is a payment made to the court on
behalf of the suspect. The Eighth Amendment states that
Factors In Therapeutic Communication
Therapeutic Communication
In therapeutic communication a nurse consciously helps a patient to understand what
he or she is saying via verbal or non verbal communication. (Sherko E., 2013)
therapeutic communication is a skill learnt via study, practicing and observations.
(Linton A, 2015) The nurse may even influence the patient to receiving a better life,
express feelings and show acceptance to any situation through this method. (Sherko
E., 2013) When a nurse speaks to a patient there must be empathy, trust and respect.
The patient must know that the nurse is concerned and cares about his problem.
(Antai Otong D., 2008)
It is a nurse s duty to introduce his or her self to the client and use her name whiles
talking to her. This makes the client feel comfortable. A handshake is a good method
of establishing trust and respect. (Pullen et al., 2010)
Factors that affect therapeutic communication include age and gender. A nurse must
know when it is appropriate to talk to a child versus when to talk to an old man ...

These include active listening which includes paying attention to the client both
verbally and non verbally, make eye contact and lean towards the client. Share
observations of the client s behaviour and emphasize with him or her. (Abidin A,
2010) A word of encouragement is needed by clients and based on the situation a
sense of humour. Using touch is a communication technique that makes a client feels
comfortable. The nurse must allow the client to break a silence and provide as much
information as possible that relates to their situation so as to make them relaxed.
Clarification is a good technique in insuring the information provided is accurate.
Much emphasis must be placed on focussing and paraphrasing since they are effective
therapeutic communication techniques. Let the client know that you were paying
attention by summarizing their problems to them and asking relevant questions.

Functions of Management 1. Planning When management is reviewed as a process,
planning is the first function performed by a manager. The work of a manager begins
with the setting of objectives of the organization and goals in each area of the
business. This is done through planning. A plan is a predetermined course of action
to accomplish the set objectives. It is today s projection for tomorrow s activity.
Planning includes objectives, strategies, policies, procedures, programs, etc. As it
involves making choices, decision making is the heart of planning. 2. Organizing
Organizing includes putting life into the plan by bringing together personnel, capital,
machinery, materials etc., to execute the plans. While, planning decides what
management wants to do, organizing provides an effective machine for achieving the
plans. 3. Staffing Staffing involves filling the positions needed in the organization
structure by appointing competent and qualified persons for the job. This needs

Mass Transit Is a Crucial Issue for Working People without Cars where she says
The mass transportation market its riders and potential riders comprises two broad
groups, captive riders and choice riders. Captive transit riders must rely on mass
transit; they do not have an alternative way to travel for some or all of their trips
because an automobile is required but none is available or because they cannot
drive or cannot afford an automobile. Choice riders use transit if it provides service
superior to that of their principal alternative, usually the automobile. Captive and
choice riders have different needs and preferences, and different services can be
designed to accommodate them. The captive riders are the ones that are
disadvantaged and thereby lacking in transportation choices and are the ones in
Deland that are most in need of an additional bus route. Getting a bus line to run near
these neighborhoods is crucial as presently for many the nearest bus stop is a one mile
or more walk through an area with a high crime rate. While many of these
neighborhoods do have sidewalks, if the weather is inclement or a person gets off the

How Prenatal Care Is Important For Both Mother And
Fetus
The World Health Organization reports that 81 percent of women in developing
countries have one prenatal visit, but only 36 percent have the recommended four
visits . Prenatal care is important for both mother and fetus. In most countries
midwifes are the ones that take care of the expecting mothers and deliver their
babies. In the United States however midwifes have become less and less used, due
to the rise of OB GYN s. Deciding which care provider would be the best for each
pregnancyis hard question to answer. Although some experts say that OB GYN s
have more years of schooling therefor they are more certified to deliver babies, I
argue that midwifes receive adequate training and are just as certified to deliver,
which could give expecting mothers a more attentive care provider that is a lot
cheaper than other care providers. Midwifes have been around for a long time. The
first midwifes were said to have been around in the 1700 s, although they were not
called midwifes. The term Midwife comes from the Latin terms mid meaning with
and wyf meaning women. In the 20th century the subject taught in medical schools
change its name from midwifery to obstetrics. In the United States midwifes only
deliver about 8% percent of all births. Midwifes have become less and less of a need
because of the newer professions like an obstetrician/gynecologist (OB GYN).
Midwives provide advice, care and support for women and their babies during
pregnancy, labor and the

Landmine Research Paper
Landmines If one is fortunate enough to be an United States citizen, the notion of
landmines in combat may seem like primitive warfare technology. But, for the
people in war torn Africa, one mistep has become a death sentence. Suprisingly, the
United Nations estimates that 2 to 5 million new landmines are put into the ground
each year. This statistic shows that landmines are the exact oppostite of primitive
technology. On top of all that, as if the traditional variation was not enoough, they
now manufacture plastic landmines. Which, of course, are even more difficult to
detect. There are many barriers that prevent the clearing of landmines around the
world, specifically, Africa. One of these barriers is the fact that landmines are so
efficient. If they weren t so effective of as a weapon of murder, millions would not
be buried into the ground today. Another major barrier is the fact that removal of
landmines is labor entensive, as well as, inefficiant. In fact, it takes more than a day
to clear over 50 kilometers of land. At that rate, it is estimated it will take over one
thousand years to clear the rest of the mines left in the world. Also, landmines are

process for some families. Knowing that you are going to lose a loved one and
planning for how they will be taken care of can be quite stressful. End of life
planning can be used in two different scenarios one of which is for terminally ill
patients and the other is for the aging and elderly. Planning for end of life care can
be quite expensive with all of the doctor visits and counseling s. In Obama s
Affordable Care Act there is some hope for the elderly for paying for some of these
expenses. The Affordable Care Act has a provision within it that encourages seniors
to attend an end of life counseling. The provision would offer Medicare coverage for

Inside FedEx Express
Introduction
As a Secretary of Defense Corporate Fellow during 2005 2006, I was assigned to
work at FedEx Express located in Memphis, Tennessee. FedEx Express provides time
critical delivery services and associated information assistance globally. It is one of
several Operating Companies (OPCO) within FedEx Corporation. Other OPCOs
include: FedEx Custom Critical, FedEx Ground, FedEx Freight, and FedEx Kinko s.
Each OPCO operates independently, competes collectively, and manages
collaboratively. FedEx Services, FedEx Trade Networks,... Show more content on

What began as domestic delivery became global delivery with the acquisition of
Flying Tigers in 1989. ByIn 1995, FedEx became the sole U.S. based all cargo carrier
in China.
Time critical package delivery expanded to include deferred delivery with the 1998
purchase of Caliper, which owned RPS, and became FedEx Ground in 2000. Viking
Freight, the Less Than Truckload (LTL) component of that purchase, was initially
less important than Caliper. But Smith and his senior executives recognized the
opportunity to expand their delivery reach and in 2001 bought American Freightways
to combine with Viking to make FedEx Freight.
FedEx Services was created in 2000 as a vehicle to merge Sales, Marketing, and
Technology support for FedEx Express and FedEx Ground. This manage
collaboratively effort was a well devised method of creating efficiency and customer
focus into the FedEx brand, while maintaining independent operating companies.
Today, Services coordinates these functions and ecommerce activities for FedEx
Freight as well.
In 2004 Kinko s became FedEx Kinko s. Well over a thousand retail sites offered
attractive outlets to reach FedEx retail customers. FedEx also placed a bet on
providing business solutions as opposed to only package delivery. Kinko s catersed
to small businesses a key market for growth.

The Identity of a Puerto Rican Essay
The Identity of a Puerto Rican
Sidney W. Mintz describes the Caribbean as a scattering of some fifty inhabited units
spanning nearly 2, 500 miles of sea between Mexico s Yucatan Peninsula and the
north coast of South America, constitute the oldest colonial sphere of Western
European overseas expansion... these territories were dominated and navigated and
explored, their aborigines had been thrust into the consciousness of European
monarchs, philosophers, and scientists (17). The islands in the Caribbean might have
some common historical patterns of conquest, slavery and the development of multi
cultural societies but each island has its own history, culture and identity. As part of
the Caribbean, Puerto Rico can identify with some of ... Show more content on

The first storey deals with the issue of the first Puerto Ricans, the mestizo culture of a
predominantly Afro Antillean type. The second storey is from the 18th to the 19th
century and the second wave of immigration, the third storey deals with the invasion
of the United States in 1898 and finally, the fourth storey deals with an advancement
American capitalism, industrialization and migration. The United States plays an
important role in the issue of Puerto Rican national identity. Nancy Morris in her
book Puerto Rico: Culture, Politics and Identity, writes, The collective identity of
Puerto Ricans has been influenced by the island s relationship with the United States,
but Puerto Ricans have retained an identity that is distinct and separate from their
sovereign power (1).
The Taino Indians, The African and The Spanish
The Puerto Rican culture has three historical roots; the Taino Indian, the African and
the Spanish. The Africans became the most important for economic and social
reasons. As part of the Spanish conquest most of all the Taino Indians were
exterminated. Both the Tainos and Africans were trapped in the most oppressed
stratum of the social pyramid, this allowed for cultural exchange between the two
group. Due to the lack of Spanish woman, the Spanish men also became involved
with both the Tainos and Africans. Gonzalez claims that, when the descendants of the
first African slaves had already become black Puerto
Pestel Analysis Of Apple

soaring heights which is a big social influence on Apple and its products. One of
Apple s main offerings is the music store iTunes and Apple has gained a lot from this
social development and change in modern lifestyles. However, the young consumers
in these markets might lack a strong emotional attachment with the products. Also,
increasing ethical concerns regarding low cost manufacturing in China could limit
Apple s products appeal among the socially conscious consumers. Technological

The Raven s Annabel Lee
Unlike The Raven s narrator, the narrator of Annabel Lee does not perform actions
throughout the poem. Instead, his action is limited to the second and ending stanzas.
He does, however, react emotionally to the action of the angels. In the second stanza,
he [loves] with a love that [is] more than love and Annabel Leeloves the narrator
back in the same fashion. Additionally, she lived with no other thought/ Than to
love and be loved by the narrator. This is their soul purposes in life. Even though she
is dead, he is still alive and, therefore, still lives to love her as she did him while she
was alive. He dreams of her and feels her eyes every night she has really never left
him and will stay with him for as long as he lives.... Show more content on

It was many and many a year ago begins the narrator, reminiscent of the once upon
a time introduction of fairytales ( Annabel Lee 1). This fairytale like introduction
to the poem gives it an air magic and mystery. The vagueness characterizes the
narrator s feelings toward everything else. The setting does not really matter to
him. Annabel Lee does. Since nothing else matters, he is able to completely ignore
death and thus death has no power over him as it does with the narrator of The
Raven. Likewise, the same fairytale like introduction hints at timelessness and
immortality. Time cannot touch his love. His love cannot decay nor can it be
controlled. He has his happy ending characteristic of fairytales. He has an immortal
love that will never die. In addition to the fairytale aspect of the poem, Annabel Lee
s sepulcher is by the sea, implying that it has a view of the horizon an infinite view (
Annabel Lee 40). This view and the fairytale quality symbolizes the immortality of
their love. Death cannot touch the love, being immortal. It therefore has no power to
control any aspect of the relationship between the poem s narrator and his beautiful

Energy Efficient Wireless Network For Green Radio Project
Energy Efficient Architectures and Key Techniques to Enable Energy Efficient
Wireless Network in green radio project
Abstract:
Technical innovations changed every day life as fast and profoundly as the massive
use of personal mobile communications. With rapid increase of modern
communications networks, problems like emission of CO2 and energy
consumption has emerged which have a potential adverse impact upon the
environment and their operating energy costs are also increasing. Since 2006, data
traffic on mobile networks has been increasing at a rate of approximately 300% and
is expected to grow even at much faster rate. This has forced the researchers to
address how to design future wireless networks which can reduce the energy ... Show

In 2007, analyst Gartner reported that ICT sector share about 2% in carbon
emissions. It might appear small at first sight but the overall footprint of the whole
ICT sector is expected to double between 2007 and 2020. Mobile data traffic is
going to increase dramatically in the next 5 years and one of the main reason is
increase in mobile video traffic. In developing countries, electricity connections
may not be directly available. So, for example, Vodafone uses extra 1 million
gallons of gas per day to provide power their network. The above example gives us
an idea of how the energy is consumed by the information technology. They are
increasing energy costs with larger base station site densities which leads to increase
in energy price. Many companies have decided to reduce carbon emissions, for
example Vodafone has set a target to reduce it CO2 emissions by approximately
50% by 2020. From an operators perspective, lowering of operating expenditure is
possible with reduce in energy consumption. 3% of world wide energy is used by
the Information and Communication architecture which is causing 2% of world
wide CO2 emmission. The main key reason behind the development of mobile VCE
green radio program is to reduce carbon emissions (CO2) and Reduction in operating
expenditure for wireless cellular networks. The challenge of energy reduction should
be achieved without compromise in the quality of service which is experienced by the

Mit Admission Essay

  • 1. Mit Admission Essay Crafting an essay for admission to MIT is an intricate task that demands a unique blend of intellect, creativity, and self-expression. The challenge lies not only in meeting the academic standards but in capturing your essence within the confines of a limited word count. MIT, renowned for its cutting-edge research and innovation, seeks individuals who not only excel academically but also showcase a profound passion for their chosen field. The difficulty intensifies as you strive to strike a balance between humility and confidence, articulating your achievements and aspirations without veering into arrogance. The admissions committee seeks more than just a list of accomplishments; they aim to understand your motivations, resilience, and the personal experiences that have shaped your journey. Moreover, the challenge lies in avoiding clichГ©s and generic statements, steering clear of the well-trodden path and presenting a narrative that is distinctly yours. It requires a meticulous examination of your life, distilling the essence of your identity and ambitions into a concise yet compelling piece. The struggle is not only with the content but also with the constant self-doubt that accompanies such a task. Will your essay stand out among countless others? Does it effectively convey your uniqueness? These questions can make the writing process even more formidable. However, as challenging as it may be, the process of writing an MIT admission essay is also an opportunity for self-discovery and growth. Every economic action was suggested to only consider about making more profit. While the economy and the human population are growing; more natural resources are used and more pollution is observed. Human become to deal with the results of its production such as environmental problems and resource scarcity. A debate has emerged in economics and the mainstream economics is brought into question since its unlimited growth assumption is collapsed. Ecological economists argue the neoclassical welfare economics for ignoring the environmental and ethic values by only focusing on the cost benefit analysis. It also claims that the neoclassical economics fails to calculate the value of the environmental capital and the loss of the economic activities on the environment. This paper is going to explain the problems with the neoclassical welfare economics and the alternatives offered by the ecological economics in terms of economic growth and environment. The neoclassical welfare economics explains the economic production and behavior by using the mainstream terms of economic literature. Specifically, it focuses on the Pareto efficiency and suggests two theorems related to it. Firstly, the Pareto efficiency is stated by maximization of preferences under a restricted

As each generation passes by, they are unable to release themselves of the conditions they grew up with and are familiar with. Based on a 2016 survey, it revealed that there were nearly three times as many blacks and Latinos living in povertyin the U.S compared to whites (Poverty Rate by Race/Ethnicity). With statistics like these, it leads me to wonder why minorities are more likely to live a life of poverty and violence. Although some may say that it is purely due to a lack of motivation to improve their lives, they ignore the reality of institutional racism and the psychological affects which play a role in enforcing the longevity of the poverty... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The government also tends to forget about cities plunged into poverty and choose to fund housing projects in more affluent parts to increase their potential revenue. There have been reports showing that Segregation levels rose with levels of black population growth, suggesting that public housing policies were a response from white elites in government to isolate blacks into certain areas, away from high paying business districts (Bickford and Massey 1991). This form of racism allows minority groups to suffer while whites prosper. Hand in hand with the lack of affordable and livable housing conditions, minorities face difficulties with employment opportunities in these areas. Those who live in poor cities are automatically disadvantaged because many employers migrate from these cities to prosperous ones to increase their income. If they were to stay in poverty ridden towns, they could potentially file for bankruptcy because their consumers are unable to afford what employers have to offer. As more businesses move away, the less opportunities citizens have to pull themselves out of poverty. A lack of revenue flowing through the city also contributes to its increase of poor citizens. Topdog/underdog exemplifies this through Booth s unemployment and Lincoln s low wage job. When it comes to Booth, he resorts to theft rather than searching for employment. The lack of opportunities led this man to believe that stealing was his only option to obtain possessions. Along with

State and local officials, they say, should take the initiative to identify and target the hard core criminals who are committing the majority of crimes and implement tough policies to put them behind bars and keep them there. Mounting evidence shows that this approach works. Attacking the root causes of crime also makes sense, provided those causes are correctly identified. Poverty, for instance, does not cause crime. Robert Rector, also of the Heritage Foundation, reports that the United States has invested nearly $7 trillion in programs that provide cash, food, housing, and medical and social services to poor and low income Americans. But, he observes, while the nation was pouring this flood of resources into the War on Poverty, most of its social problems got worse, not better. In its wake, a deluge of illegitimacy, crime, drug abuse, and welfare dependency has besieged America. Rector concludes that we get what we pay for. For 30 years, the welfare system paid for non work and non marriage, and it has achieved massive increases in both. By undermining the work ethic and rewarding illegitimacy, he explains, the welfare system has insidiously generated its own clientele. The more money that is spent, the more people in apparent need of aid appear. Rector argues that welfare has bribed individuals into courses of behavior that, in the long run, are self defeating, harmful to children, and increasingly a threat to society. Welfare s most ominous feature, he contends, is its corrosive effect on family structure its policies have driven up illegitimacy, which in turn has been a powerful factor that contributes to almost every other current social problem. Rector recommends returning to traditional charity, which recognizes that one way handouts usually hurt those they are intended to help. True charity, he

If the woman gets off at five, then that automatically knocks out the 5:00 movie viewing time. The next available show time isn t until 7:30, but she has work the next day and she needs to get home at a decent hour in the day. The economist William Beveridge, also a Liberal politician, was set the task of setting up a plan of post war social reconstruction and claimed society had 5 Giant Evils : squalor, ignorance, want (poverty), idleness (unemployment), and disease, which had to be tackled to create a better Britain. During the Early Modern Era, from 1450 1750, this occurred a lot. The European, Russian, Chinese, Mughal and, Ottoman empires were all being built around the same time. An empire is a group of states or countries under one supreme ruler. When the empireis divided by an ocean or has part of it distant from the other, the part away from the mainland is known as a colony and the homeland is the Mother Country. The empires without colonies had faster trade because there wasn t that great distance but the new things they needed they got from the empires with colonies in the Americas. The empires with the colonies in America had the advantage. The European Empires were also different from the Russian, Chinese, Mughal, and Ottoman Empires in that Europe hurt the unintentionally natives of the land they took over while the other empires did not. Since Europe was building empires in another continent, many things would be different. A major difference was the immune systems of the people. The europeans had immunities to certain diseases such as bubonic plague, pneumonic plague,, influenza, measles, scarlet fever, smallpox, and tuberculosis, because they had been exposed to them before. Since the Native Americans were never exposed to them, they never built immunities. When the Europeans came to the Americans they carried the diseases without knowing. Making majority of the population sick. Tribe after tribe they died because they could not fight these diseases. This clearly made more room for the Europeans but in a tragic way. Similarly, the European Empires were different from the Russian, Chinese, Mughal, and Ottoman Empires in their reasonings for expansion. Europe expanded across the Atlantic Ocean because they were geographically at an advantage. They had access to this new land the for the other places to get to it would either take too long or they would physically have to go through the European s land to get there. Matthew Yglesias Against Transparency In Against Transparency, author Matthew Yglesias argues that the emails of public officials should be afforded the same level of privacy as granted to phone calls and other private conversations. His arguments fall primarily into a couple categories. The first is that email is a necessary and convenient way to facilitate communication, and forcing officials to monitor what they say or reveal in emails when any scandalous information could simply be transmitted through other mediums does nothing but impede that communication. The second is that forced email disclosure is generally not an effective way to for the public to receive information, and that proponents of transparency should instead focus on improving the quality of information the governmentvoluntarily releases. Yglesias describes the FOIA process as a very slow, highly adversarial process that is primarily useful to people with an ax to grind. For a national government as unimaginably vast as the United States , this is not a satisfactory primary tool for forcing disclosure. Yglesias proposes an alternative, however, in the form of routine publication of what it knows. This is certainly the more attractive option. Union General William Tecumseh Sherman s Carolina campaign during the American Civil War led to the capital of South Carolina in the city of Columbia in early 1865. Sherman was employing a new military strategy of total war, in which he considered the civilian population and their property as military targets. Upon hearing of Sherman s march toward Columbia, the Confederate cavalry General Wade Hampton faced the reality that Columbia would be lost to Sherman. The question for Hampton was how to prepare for the invasion of Columbia with a focus on the disposition of supplies ranging from cotton, food, and alcohol, to military related supplies such as ammunition, rifles, and cannons. It was both obvious and imperative to the Confederacy that the Union could not take possession of these supplies, since this would simultaneously help the Union and seriously hurt the Confederacy. Additionally, the presence of the cotton would make the potential of fire a real danger for the citizenry and the buildings in which they lived, worked, gathered, and prayed. Confederate General Wade Hampton unsuccessfully employed the tenants of the current U.S. Army mission command philosophy during the Union General Sherman s campaign through South Carolina. Hampton s failure to follow the yet to be written philosophy of mission command both before and during Sherman s occupation of Columbia directly destroyed what little chance of winning the war the South may have clung to. The initial appearance is usually a brief hearing. Probable Cause Hearing The 4th Amendment requires that a probable cause hearing be held if an arrest is made without a warrant. The purpose of the probable cause hearing is to determine if there is probable cause to hold a person in custody. To prevent prolonged confinement the probable cause hearing is usually held quickly to determine the validity of the arrest charges. Bail If someone has been arrested for a minor offense and does not pose a flight risk they may be eligible for pre trial release. To insure that a suspect will show up for their court date they are required to post bail. This is a payment made to the court on behalf of the suspect. The Eighth Amendment states that

Prenatal care is important for both mother and fetus. In most countries midwifes are the ones that take care of the expecting mothers and deliver their babies. In the United States however midwifes have become less and less used, due to the rise of OB GYN s. Deciding which care provider would be the best for each pregnancyis hard question to answer. Although some experts say that OB GYN s have more years of schooling therefor they are more certified to deliver babies, I argue that midwifes receive adequate training and are just as certified to deliver, which could give expecting mothers a more attentive care provider that is a lot cheaper than other care providers. He does, however, react emotionally to the action of the angels. In the second stanza, he [loves] with a love that [is] more than love and Annabel Leeloves the narrator back in the same fashion. Additionally, she lived with no other thought/ Than to love and be loved by the narrator. This is their soul purposes in life. Even though she is dead, he is still alive and, therefore, still lives to love her as she did him while she was alive. It was many and many a year ago begins the narrator, reminiscent of the once upon a time introduction of fairytales ( Annabel Lee 1). This fairytale like introduction to the poem gives it an air magic and mystery. The vagueness characterizes the narrator s feelings toward everything else. The setting does not really matter to him. Annabel Lee does. Since nothing else matters, he is able to completely ignore death and thus death has no power over him as it does with the narrator of The Raven. Likewise, the same fairytale like introduction hints at timelessness and immortality. Time cannot touch his love. His love cannot decay nor can it be controlled. He has his happy ending characteristic of fairytales. He has an immortal love that will never die. This view and the fairytale quality symbolizes the immortality of their love. Death cannot touch the love, being immortal. It therefore has no power to control any aspect of the relationship between the poem s narrator and his beautiful ANNABEL LEE ( Annabel Lee

Energy Efficient Wireless Network For Green Radio Project Energy Efficient Architectures and Key Techniques to Enable Energy Efficient Wireless Network in green radio project Abstract: Technical innovations changed every day life as fast and profoundly as the massive use of personal mobile communications. With rapid increase of modern communications networks, problems like emission of CO2 and energy consumption has emerged which have a potential adverse impact upon the environment and their operating energy costs are also increasing. Since 2006, data traffic on mobile networks has been increasing at a rate of approximately 300% and is expected to grow even at much faster rate. This has forced the researchers to address how to design future wireless networks which can reduce the energy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2007, analyst Gartner reported that ICT sector share about 2% in carbon emissions. It might appear small at first sight but the overall footprint of the whole ICT sector is expected to double between 2007 and 2020. Mobile data traffic is going to increase dramatically in the next 5 years and one of the main reason is increase in mobile video traffic. In developing countries, electricity connections may not be directly available. So, for example, Vodafone uses extra 1 million gallons of gas per day to provide power their network. The above example gives us an idea of how the energy is consumed by the information technology. They are increasing energy costs with larger base station site densities which leads to increase in energy price. Many companies have decided to reduce carbon emissions, for example Vodafone has set a target to reduce it CO2 emissions by approximately 50% by 2020. From an operators perspective, lowering of operating expenditure is possible with reduce in energy consumption. 3% of world wide energy is used by the Information and Communication architecture which is causing 2% of world wide CO2 emmission. The main key reason behind the development of mobile VCE green radio program is to reduce carbon emissions (CO2) and Reduction in operating expenditure for wireless cellular networks. The challenge of energy reduction should be achieved without compromise in the quality of service which is experienced by the
