The document discusses the Greek play Lysistrata by Aristophanes, in which the women of various city-states, led by Lysistrata, withhold sex from their husbands in order to force the men to end the long-running Peloponnesian War. It analyzes how the play provides an authentic representation of women in Classical Greece through its depictions of different age groups of women, the control women had over their own sexuality compared to men, and women acting outside their traditional domestic roles.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can

2. Symbolism and Repression in The Yellow Wallpaper
Symbolism and Repression in The Yellow Wallpaper
Charlotte Perkins Gilman s story, The Yellow Wallpaper is as a wonderful example of the gothic
horror genre. It was not until the rediscovery of the story in the early 1970 s that The Yellow
Wallpaper was recognized as a feminist indictment of a male dominated society. The story contains
many typical gothic trappings, but beneath the conventional façade hides a tale of repression and
freedom told in intricate symbolism as seen through the eyes of a mad narrator.
It is difficult to discuss the meaning in this story without first examining the author s own personal
experience. The YellowWallpaper gives an account of a woman driven to madness as a result of the

Many of the passages concerning the husband can be interpreted as containing sarcasm, a great
many contain irony, and several border on parody (Johnson 528). It is true that the husband s
language is exaggerated at times, but dismissing the husband s character as caricature seems
extreme. He is instead the natural complement to the narrator s madness and uncontrolled fancy:
the character of John is control and sanity as defined by Victorian culture and is therefore the
narrator s opposite. Greg Johnson notes that John exhibits a near obsession with reason, even as
his wife grows mad. He is the narrator s necessary counterpart, without whose stifling influence her
eventual freedom would not be gained. And he is also transformed at the end of the tale in a
reversal of traditional gothic roles because it is he, not a female, who faints when confronted with
madness (529).
Central to the story is the wallpaper itself. It is within the wallpaper that the narrator finds her
hidden self and her eventual damnation/freedom. Her obsession with the paper begins subtly and
then consumes both the narrator and the story. Once settled in the long empty ancestral estate, a
typical gothic setting, the narrator is dismayed to learn that her husband has chosen the top floor
nursery room for her. The room is papered in horrible yellow wallpaper, the design of which
commit[s] every artistic sin (426). The design begins to fascinate the narrator and she

3. The Five Forms Of Ancient Greece
With one cursory overview of Ancient Greece and its diverse topography, it only stands to reason
that ruling the related multitude of distinct poleis scattered throughout its territories, might require
different forms of governments, as well. In fact, befitting of such a landscape, Greece employed a
variety of unique ruling structures within its collective borders. The principal five forms, to be
further examined here within, were monarchy, aristocracy, oligarchy, tyranny, and democracy.
(Brand, n.d.)
When early settlers first started forming their polis, the inhabitants would select one of their group
as its leader. For the successful survival of the group, this person was often the strongest, most
powerful member. With time, this position... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually this led to two different political responses from the aristocrats. Some tried weak
attempts to spread the power of influence beyond the richest, such as Solon and his reforms for
Athens. (Brand, n.d.) Others saw this as a sign of weakness and redoubled their efforts to maintain
the real authority among the strongest, wealthiest and most influential. This latter method gave rise
to the third regime structure, called oligarchy, from the Greek, oligarkhia, meaning, government of
the few. (oligarchy, 2018) Sparta was the most famous of Greek

4. Argumentative Essay On Animals
Around twenty six million animals are used for scientific research every year in the United States
alone. The animals are used solely for medical treatments, determining the toxicity of medications,
checking the safety of products destined for human use, and many other biomedical, commercial,
and healthcare uses. Researchers estimate animals have been used as test subjects since 500 B.C.
According to Humane Society International, animalsubjects are commonly forced fed, forced
inhalation of chemicals, deprived of food and water, burned, and possibly killed. We as a nation
need to begin a movement to stop testing products on defenseless animals (PETA).
Researchers have found descriptions of live animals being dissected in ancient Greek writing dating
back to 500 BC. Physician scientists such as Aristotle, Herophilus, and Erasistratus conducted
experiments on animals to discover the functions of living organisms. Originally, vivisection, the
dissection of a living organism, were performed on criminals in ancient Rome and Alexandria,
however, in ancient Greece there were prohibitions against the mutilation of the human body which
eventually led to the reliance on animals. The physicians each had their own opinions when it came
to performing vivisections on animals. Aristotle believed that animals lacked intelligence and
therefore the notions of justice and injustice did not apply to them. A successor to Aristotle,
Theophrastus, disagreed stating that animals, like humans,

5. The Sound of Music Essay
The Sound of Music
In 1965 Robert Wise presented the world with his smashing box office hit film, The Sound of
Music. Over time it has become known as one of the most loved and well known musicals of all
time. Shortly after its release it won many Academy awards: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Sound
, Best Adapted Score, Best Film Editing, Best Film Musical, Best Color Cinematography, and Best
Costume design (Freiden par3). The movie is based upon the true story of the VonTrapp family and
allows its audience to relive their family experience as well as their flight from Nazism just before
the outbreak of World War Two.

The movie leads us to think that the root of Nazism lay solely with Germany, and that it was evil
Germans under Hitler who overthrew innocent Austria and turned it into a fascist nation. Because
most Americans are not history buffs on Austria s role in the Anschluss, we tend to believe that
The Sound of Music, or perhaps even Schindler s List, presents us with completely factual
evidence. In a sense, we have allowed this movie to be a history book that tells the tale of the
Anschluss. Because German Nazism is presented so negatively in the movie, of course an
American audience will side with the Austrians who are so innocently represented by the VonTrapp
family. No one else is there to tell the audience any differently.
In the minds of the American audience, The Sound of Music creates a story of an innocent Austria
trying to escape the evils of Nazi Germany. The movie was correct in showing that many Austrians
wanted to remain Austrian vs. becoming German, but the overwhelming majority of Austrians at
the time were actually fully supportive of the coming Anschluss. On March 13, 1938, Hitler entered
Vienna in a triumphant motorcade. Thousands of ecstatic Austrians greeted him with unbridled
enthusiasm, waving Nazi flags and screaming his name (Perez par22). Perhaps the VonTrapp family
didn t welcome Hitler with such enthusiasm, but the movie leads us to

6. Environmental Ethics And Environmental Safety
Environmental ethics can be formally defined in many sources as the study of human interaction
with nature. In a business sense, however, environmental ethics is concerned with the business duty
or responsibility to protect our overall environment. Our society is beginning to become more
involved with the environmental movement. Because of this, people are more concerned with the
companies and businesses that they support in regards to their concern towards our environment.
Some argue that businesses should be attempting to protect our environment over and above what
is required by United States Law. Doesn t it seem the only ethical thing to do? In this paper I will
elaborate about environmental compliance obligations, businesses and environmental ethics
movements, as well as what companies have been trying to do to become more ethical when it
comes to our environment that goes above and beyond the law. The survival and growth of green
businesses in the U.S. is increasingly large. Environmental compliance obligations are monitored by
the EPA, or the Environmental Protection Agency. Their basic mission is quite simplistic in that
they need to protect human health and the overall environment. EPA, state, local and tribal agencies
work together to ensure compliance with environmental laws passed by Congress, state legislatures
and tribal governments (Introduction: Environmental Enforcement and Compliance, n.d.). These
groups all work together to ensure

7. The Pros And Cons Of Social Stereotypes
Stereotype threat is a social phenomenon where a member of a negatively stereotyped group
performs poorly when reminded of that stereotype (Beilock, Jellison, Rydell, McConnell, Carr,
2006). For example, previous studies have shown that when primed with a negative stereotype
African Americans perform worse on intellectual tasks (Steele, Aronson, 1995), and women
perform worse at math (Spencer, Steele, Quinn, 1999). The main component of stereotypethreat is
that it impairs working memory(Schmader, Forbes, Johns, 2008). Working memory is a short term
memory system that is involved in the control, regulation, and active maintenance of a limited
amount of information with immediate relevance to the task at hand (Miyake Shah, 1999). So
essentially as one works on a task, working memory keeps all the important information ready for
quick access, which is crucial for performance in almost every domain. Previous studies have
shown that working memory capacity is a direct mediator between stereotype threat and impaired
mental performance (Schmader, Johns, 2003). At a cognitive level, working memory is a limited
capacity resource that can become depleted if it is attending to multiple domains. If depleted there
is less capacity available to control a task s execution and information processing demands
(Schmader, Johns, 2003). Many different studies have contested how it is that stereotype threat
impairs performance. For example, in Steele and Aronson s

8. Critical Analysis Of Charles DickensOliver Twist
Critical Analysis Just like anyone else who reads a book, opinions are going to form, and not all
of them are going to be on the same page. Readers form different opinions and views based on
how they interpret the meaning of the novel. Many critics have analyzed Charles Dickens Oliver
Twist. Albert Borowitz and Kelly Winters are two well known writers who wrote long critiques
that analyzed the work of Charles Dickens.
Crime writer Albert Borowitz believes that Charles Dickens uses the narrative of Oliver s fall to
serve his reformist purposes of attacking England s harsh, poor laws and illustrating [in] the
thesis that city slums could breed crime even in the most innocent people (Borowitz). I
absolutely agree with Borowitz. In the beginning, the reader just assumes the Oliver just has
terrible luck and that all of these terrible events are happening to him out of misfortune. Oliver is
portrayed as a poor and innocent boy who is just being used by other people who have selfish
intentions. Later on, the bystanders realize that he was really the hardened little wretch he was
described to be by people (Dickens). Comparing the beginning of the novel to the end of the
novel, Oliver has transformed from an innocent and young boy into a criminal in which he only
speaks lies. Dickens has managed to attack England s laws and changed Oliver s character from an
innocent orphan into a criminal. Jhaveri 4

9. Similarities And Differences Between Heart Of Darkness And...
The movie Apocalypse Now is inspired by Joseph Conrad s novel Heart of Darkness. Due to this,
the majority of the film is based upon the book, in terms of plot, theme, characters, and setting. The
differences between the two works arise in the modern interpretation taken by Apocalypse Now, and
the presentation of Heart of Darknessthemes through current events. Both Apocalypse Now(AN)
and Heart of Darkness (HOD) take place within four main settings, with the same overall plot. In
HOD, these settings are Brussels, the Central Station, the steamboat on the river, and Kurtz s
compound. In AN, the initial settings are instead a meeting room with officers and a military base,
before becoming a steamboat on the river, and Kurtz s compound. The initial settings both serve the
same role: to present the main characterwith their job, and to give them the means and
transportation to complete it. Both works have the jungle as the overall and main setting. Though
set in Vietnam and the Congo respectively, both jungles are presented as dark and savage the
entryway into the unknown. In both cases, the jungle is not initially seen as dangerous it is simply
the environment, a means to an end. In AN, it is not until Chef and Willard journey into the jungle
in search of mangoes that this illusion is disrupted. The men are suddenly attacked by a tiger, and
begin a frantic rush to escape back to the boat. After the experience, several of the men promise to
stay on the boat, as the boat

10. Napoleon Bonaparte
Napoleon Bonaparte or should I say the Son of the Revolution , I believe was both a preserver
and a destroyer of the French Revolution. In fact, In a sense, Napoleon brought the revolution to
an end in 1799, but he was also a child of the revolution (Spielvogel 544, 1). Napoleon had helped
the French peopleand the French government in various ways; nevertheless, Napoleon thought that
constantly the people owed him. I think that this is how he acted like a child. Napoleon became
commander of the French army in 1796 in Italy. Since he was now the commander he was reliable
to do what he had to for the French without the people owing him anything. Moreover, from the
time he became commander he had fought and won numerous wars beginning... Show more content

Europe at one time did have factories which were stocked with quite expensive items, but
because of other companies taking over them prices fell and people were left unemployed.
Europe had a high death rate because of lack of food and terrible living conditions. In Europe
there was a lot of poverty whereas in Great Britain there was not. Because of emigrants coming
from all over to Europe especially, people from Ireland, Europe s population began to grow. It was
then that Europe soon would be exposed to experience industrialization.
How did the Industrial Revolution affect the family, the role of women, and living conditions?
The Industrial Revolution affected families in countless different ways. For the bulk of people
who were in the working class lived in small houses. Considering that these houses were so
small, the people in them would be crammed together. There were 63 families where there were
at least five persons to a bed; and there were some in which even six were packed in one bed,
lying at the top and bottom children and adults (Spievogel 569, 1). The houses were unsanitary
and the people from the working class were more likely to come in contact with a disease. The
people of the working class were not as physically healthy looking because they did not eat and live
as well as the middle class or wealthy did. The working classes had very poor working conditions
and were not paid fairly. Not just the men worked, but women

The realities of the world affected me as visions, and as visions only, while the wild ideas of the

existence utterly and solely in itself. Edgar Allan Poe Uncanny encounters with visions and
hallucinations blur the presumed constraints of time and space. The phantasms or sensory

Anderson describes choleric individuals as easily provoked, given to treachery, vehement in action;
fierce in assailing but inconstant in sustaining assault; inclined to envy, pride, prodigality, and
wrath. In Act 1, Scene 5, Lady Macbeth is faced simultaneously with two revelations a letter
from Macbeth disclosing the witches prophecy of kingship and the news of King Duncan s
arrival conveyed by a messenger following which she delivers her famous soliloquy where she
calls upon the familiar spirits to change her temperament to choleric. Choler could be intrinsic, or
the effects of astrology, diet or even time of the day. With her desires that no compunctious
visitings of nature thwart her purpose, she unwittingly implies the cessation of her periodic
menstrual flow and the murth ring ministers are called upon to replace the nutritive fluid in her

human sexuality is concerned and all witchcraft comes from carnal lust, which is in women

13. School Day In High School
The school bell rings at 2:50 indicating the end of the school day. I race out of my AP
Chemistry class and head straight for my car parked across the street from the high school.
Within four minutes, I m pulling out of the parking lot and heading north on McHenry Avenue.
As I drive as efficiently as possible, I scan the street for any dangers. I approach the only
stoplight on this relatively short journey and I pray that it s green. Luckily, it almost always is. I
continue up the street for a few more blocks and pull into the parking lot of the public library at
2:58. I put the car in park, turn it off, open the glove department and grab my earbuds, and take
the water bottle from my backpack. I sprint up the stairs, into the Youth Department, and straight
to the carts of books to be put away. Within seconds, my earbuds are in, the podcast app is open,
and I m pulling a cart of books over to the Junior Non Fiction section. Every Thursday, Friday,
and sometimes Tuesday afternoon I work at my local public library in the Youth Department
after school. I have two primary jobs which include shelving returned books and organizing
books in alphabetical order. It is a pretty simple job, I know. What s even better about it is that I
get to use headphones while doing so. After getting bored listening to the same music playlist for
a couple of hours, I realized that I could listen to anything I want. One day, I decided to open the
podcast app on my iPhone. I wasn t sure what to

14. The Cost Of The Asset
Under generally accepted accounting principles, assets both tangible and certain intangible
assets that have an estimated useful life of more than one year but not infinitely should be
allocated and depreciated, amortized or depleted. The cost of the asset needs to be determined as
well as any possible salvage or resale value estimated. The total cost of an asset needs to not only
include the purchase price of the item but also sales taxes, installation costs, freight and interest (if
applicable). Costs currently or that are incurred in the future for maintenance and repairs is only an
expense and does not change the value of the asset. Basically, all costs that were necessary to allow
the asset to become useful should be capitalized. Depreciation, amortization and depletion are
acceptable methods used under U.S. GAAP to charge the cost of an asset used in a company s
day to day operations to expense over the periods benefited systematically. Depreciation refers to
prorating tangible and intangible asset s cost less any salvage value evenly over the useful life
of the asset. For an item to be considered an asset, it must intended for operations of the business
and not for resale. Useful life should be reasonable but can vary from one asset to another from
one view point to another. Estimated useful life is the time period in which an asset is expected to
contribute to usefulness to a company. Not all assets will have salvage value. With the exception
of land, all assets are

Comparing The Roles of Women In Real Life and Fairy Tales
How different are the roles of women in real life and in fairy tales? Women have very different
roles in fairy tales than they do in real life. In fairy tales, women can t choose who they marry
and they can t own their own land. In real life women have the choice to own land and marry who
they choose. In some of the fairy tales the role of the women would clean the house and make meals.
In the fairy tale Cinderella, there are two different personalities of women. One is beautiful, kind,

The principals of operant conditioning, teaches how having certain coping techniques can
reward certain undesirable behaviors. Conditioning human behavior has been studied for many
years, Psychologists Edward Thorndike and B.F. Skinner, have dedicated the majority of their
lives to the study. Thorndike s theory Law of effect. Thorndike suggests that certain stimuli and
response become connected or dissociated from each other. His experiment worked by placing
a cat in a box, then observing its behavior as it tried to escape and obtain the food on the other
side. He studied several cats and plotted the time it took for them to escape from the puzzle box.
The challenge to get out of the box remained the same, but the amount of time to get out of the
box decreased, and while the animal may have not realized what it was doing, but knew what he
had to do to receive the food. He concluded that animals learn from reward and punishment or trial
and error. The theory of B.F. Skinner is based upon the idea that learning is about change in
behavior. Operant conditioningis learning by consequence. To put it simply, an action which he
rewarded is likely to be repeated along with an action that is punished is less likely to be
repeated. B.F. Skinner introduced a new term into the law of effect known as reinforcement.

It is an ancient technique dating back to the Bronze Age and widely used in classical times. Almost

statue is creating the terracotta statue (called soul); subsequently, this is coated with a layer of wax,
which the artist refines with all the details. At this point, the wax structure is sprued and a funnel

20. Ford s Effect On Manufacturing Industry
On July 30, 1863, an industrialist was born, neither him nor anyone for that matter, knew he was
to forever change the world, he was known as Henry Ford (1863 1947). Ford grew up on his
parents farm in Michigan. He loved to work on the farm machinery. He was good at fixing things
and could even repair watches. Although Ford did not invent the automobile but his introduction of
the Model T automobile revolutionized transportation and American industry, his inventions are
still marveled in the modern world today. Henry Fordinstalled the World s first moving assembly
linein December 1913. Ford and the assembly line improved work conditions, revolutionized
production and revolutionized American society.
Ford effect on manufacturing reaches worldwide. Prior to the Industrial Revolution people were
largely self reliant, but the industrial revolution transported increased separation of labor, and
this separation of labor got a specialization, which carried increased productivity. Specialization,
however, decreased self sufficiency and people became gradually dependent on one another.
Which was the process of socialization of labor. Ford was capable of making a reliable and low
cost auto because of his ground breaking, assembly line. The Assembly line is a sequence of
workers, machines, and parts down which an incomplete product passes, each worker performing a
procedure, until the product is assembled (Mass Production). The assembly line was undoubtedly

REFLECTIONS ON BOWENIAN FAMILY THERAPY
This paper is an analysis of my family history in Bowenian terms. I will examine four generations
on my side of the family. I have included a genogram in the appendix to examine my personal
intergenerational patterns for assessment. I will also examine my family of origin in the categories
of race, ethnicity, religion, social class, geographic location, jobs, mental health and medical
concerns. The paper concludes comparing Bowenian ideas to other systemic concepts.
Race and Ethnicity Both my paternal and material families of origin are Caucasian. Ethnicity is
Scotch Irish. With reasonable accuracy I have been able to determine that my maternal great great
grandfather (not reflected on this genogram) was living as a young man in Georgia during the
Civil War period. In my maternal line I am also told that there is a Cree Indian relative in my great
grandparent line; time and place is unknown.
Religion

Explain the effect that increasing the Na+ Cl concentration has on osmotic pressure and why it has
this effect. How well did the results compare with your prediction?
Increasing the Na+ Cl concentration in the left beaker while keeping the size of MWCO at 20
would result in an increase in osmotic pressure (Run No.2). This was because the high
concentration of Na+ Cl in the right side of membrane gives a increased force to water (in left
beaker) to move towards the solution with the highest concentration of solutes. Therefore, there was
an increase in osmotic pressure.
However, when the membrane was changed to from 20 MWCO to 50 MWCO, the Na+ Cl
molecules were able to diffuse through the membrane, the equilibrium would be reached and no
osmotic pressure was generated. If the concentration of Na+ Cl of both size are equal, the osmotic
pressure would be zero.
I obtained the results from the experiment supported my predictions because as the the
concentration Na+ Cl was increased from 5 mM to 10 mM (by adding more Na+ Cl ), the
osmotic pressure also increased. However, after the membrane was changed to 50 MWCO, the
Na+ Cl molecules could diffuse easily through the membrane and did not caused an increase in
osmotic pressure.

26. Between Traditions And Modernity By Neil Gaiman
Between Traditions and Modernity: The new identity parameters
In modern societies the countless traditions and beliefs as a result of the transmission of concepts
from generation to generations coexist with the tendencies generate for the conditions of life
imposed by modernity. This cultural phenomenon is not unfamiliar to American society, and the
general idea of Neil Gaiman in American Gods in his work is to show that reality through his
writing. In his book, while the lector read about the American culture and the current situation in the
modern society, arise the necessity of thinking over the loss of cultural values and social roots
transmitted from ancestors, and those that all human beings have adopted over their existence.
Through time, people have followed gods, ideas, or things that embody perfection and a model of
what they should be. Humans had worshiped them as a result of a voluntary surrender or the social
pressure. However, at the same time and increasingly more frequent their minds had been captivated
and they have given time and efforts into activities and desires which have become the current
ideals. They have come into their lives unnoticed, but with such force to the point that they
dominate their existence without being aware of them.
The author s work raises the life situations of foreign gods brought to America, represented as
normal people in everyday situations, suffering neglect they have felt over the years due to the

Billy Sunday
For almost a quarter century Billy Sunday was a household name in the United States. Between
1902 when he first made the pages of the New York Times and 1935 when the paper covered his
death and memorial service in detail, people who knew anything about current events had heard of
the former major league baseball player who was preaching sin and salvation to large crowds all
over America. Not everyone who knew of the famous evangelist liked him. Plenty of outspoken
critics spoke of his flashy style and criticized his conservative doctrines. But he had hundreds of
thousands, perhaps millions, of loyal defenders, and they were just as loud in their praise as the
critics were in their criticism. Whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also studied Scripture and became unusually generous toward the needy.
Furthermore, Sunday was constrained by an obsession to tell others how he had finally found
inner peace and a more purposeful life. At first through lectures and then in sermons, he related
how Jesus Christ gave him a new life of meaning, peace, and hope. This same gospel, he said,
would similarly transform others. The evidence is overwhelmingly that it did.
If Billy Sunday was sincere devoted, and motivated, he was also a product of his times and an
example of the culture and morals of middle America. On the other hand, Sunday took many
stands against popular beliefs, and he persuaded multitudes to join him in a war against many of
the modernistic ideas of the time that he saw as evil. As he once summarized his opinion so well,
What this world needs is a tidal wave of reform (Sunday Satan 24).
It is true that Sunday was a showman who craved an audience and loved applause. But he also
touched the lives of countless men and women of all social classes, helping them escape various
forms of personal bondage and find freedom in the gospel. And if he did not convert all of urban
America to his brand of Christianity, he at least played a major role in helping to keep
conservative biblical Christianity alive in this century (Dorsett 3). To understand fully why he
thought, lived, preached, and teached the way he did, we should look at his

28. Gideon V. Wainwright Case Study
In the 1963 decision of Gideon v. Wainwright, the court sought to establish the guarantee of a fair
trial before impartial tribunals in which every defendant stands equal before the law. Gideon v.
Wainwright, 372 U.S. 335, 344 (1963). In Gideon, the court announced a right to counsel in
criminal cases. Id. However, this decision only extended to criminal cases and left civil litigants
waiting for their own Gideon decision. Fifty five years later, and there is still no universal right
to counsel in civil cases. The Supreme Court has failed to utilize opportunities to make a ruling
similar to Gideon in civil cases, despite the presence of similar issues. In Lassiter v. Dept. of Soc.
Services, the court held that indigent litigants only had a right to appointed counsel when they
risk losing their physical liberty . Lassiter v. Dept. of Soc. Services, 452 U.S. 18, 23 (1981). In
other words, absent a threat of incarceration or extreme circumstances, there is not right to
counsel. Lee Shevell, Civil Gideon: The Poor Man s Fight, 16 Public Interest Law Reporter 32
37 (2010). The injustice of incarcerating a defendant that was tried and convicted without the
representation of an attorney is an obvious truth. Gideon, 372 U.S. 344. Yet, isn t there truth to
the shocking injustice of leaving the poor and most vulnerable without representation for legal
issues regarding basic needs such as shelter, food, safety, family and health? The decision in
Gideon stressed that a criminal conviction, stripping an individual of their liberty, without the
representation of counsel was a grave injustice that violated the dues process clause. The poor
are denied due process, suffering a loss liberty and justice because they cannot afford legal
representation. In some cases, the loss is just as great if not greater than being convicted of a
crime or imprisoned. Kathryn Grant Madigan, Advocating for a Civil Right to Counsel in New
York State Note, 25 Touro Law Review 9 22 (2009). Without a civil Gideon or federal action
establishing a right to civil counsel, it has been left to individual state governments to close the

Iranian society is more complexed than what its face value portrays. The west tends to attach
negative associations with Iran and the rest of the middle east. The author writes that the purpose of
her book is to show that Iran is not a country of fundamentalists and terrorists, and that
characterizations of the country by the West are inaccurate. Satrapi s narrative does the Iranian
society justice. It explains the common misconceptions of Iranand its society by a first hand

conversation. As a ten year old girl, the author is forced to wear a veil to school by those that

Europe (8). Marjane s father explains the history of the Revolution to her: Reza Shahhad been a foot

one had a problem with it. The leadership style that I thought the group conformed to was the
democratic style. Christy, being the leader, approached us as a group about the views that were
laid out on the table, and we chose which idea that was consistent with our presentation style.
Each member was allowed to express his or her opinions freely, and I had enough trust in Christy

31. My Six Fundamental Pillars Of Character
1.Loyalty. I chose loyalty as my first pillar of my Six Fundamental Pillars of Character because
loyalty has been something I have cherished for my entire life. I believe being a loyal friend and
/or family member is the most important characteristic for anyone to have. I believe this because
if one does not have loyalty, what is their purpose? Loyalty is important to me because I
personally want loyalty from others, so I provide loyalty to others. I have always lived my life
on the concept that you get what you put in. In response to that, I am loyal to others with hope
that others will be loyal to me. This pillar is most important in my relationship with Kylee. I am
loyal to Kylee, as she is loyal to me. Without loyalty in our relationship, our feelings for each
other would not be as strong, if present at all. Honesty. Honesty is most important to someone
who is seeking the characteristic of loyalty. One who is dishonest, is not a loyal person. To be
loyal, you must be entrusted to tell the truth and nothing but the truth at all times. Educated. One
who is loyal, must be educated enough to be someone to rely one. If someone wants to be
trusted but is not wise enough to treat their trust correctly, they are not loyal. The loyal person
must know how to take things into perspective and know how to relate to the situation and act
accordingly. Dedicated. To be loyal, one must be dedicated to their characteristic. They must be
success driven, timely and organized in EVERY situation. If the loyal person is only loyal to
one person, or in only some situations, they are not truly a loyal person. Kind. A loyal person
must also be kind enough to be approachable. If a person isn t kind enough to be approached,
they cannot be labelled as loyal, because they aren t given the chance to prove they are. But, at
the same time they must also be realistic, and know how to help. 2.Safe. My second pillar is my
characteristic of safety. I believe I have lived my life safely, but also just as freely and exciting as
well. Safety is an important characteristic to me because I think not having this characteristic is
dangerous. To live a healthy life, one must know how to stay safe. I believe I have

St. John the Baptist and an Angel by Domenico di Bartolomeo Ubaldini (Puligo) and Madonna
Enthroned by Giotto. Both paintings deal with fables from the Christian faith but were executed
during different periods in art. The Giotto painting was created around 1310 and the Puglio
painting was executed between 1518 В– 1520. Here, these two paintings have similar themes both
at the extreme beginnings and endings of the Italian Renaissance, and as such they serve to present
an exceptional example of the developments in art that occurred within that time. This paper shall

While both reflect a Biblical theme with a central focal point of the Madonna and Child,
Madonna Enthroned has a key image that is best viewed from a central position and Madonna
and ChildВ… has a greater degree of importance over the majority of the surface of the canvas.
In Madonna and ChildВ… the viewer does not perceive that an image is being forced upon them
as is found in the work by Giotto. A use of light and space is also key to preventing the Puligo
piece from being forced , where the organization of distance visibly removes the viewer from
Madonna Enthroned while drawing the viewer into the painting in Madonna and ChildВ… .
Color also serves a similar purpose, where Giotto s work is monochromatic but ocher while
Puligo s work carries a greater expression through the detail involved. The mood of these two
pieces is remarkable in that color does not play as great an importance as the figures surrounding
the focal point of the Madonna and Child. These figures are both essential to the composition of
the piece, but in Madonna Enthroned the viewer is left thinking that the Madonna and Child are
truly untouchable. The mood of this piece, while certainly not dark , does not inspire any. Even the
angels by either side are careful not to come near the holy woman and child. In Madonna and
ChildВ… however, the entire composition is subject to

33. Simon Quotes In Lord Of The Flies
Characters Clarified Simon was the wisest boy of the group on the island. He knew before
anyone else that the beast was not some physical creature to be scared of. He knew the beast was
not something they could just kill. This is shown in the quote, However Simon thought of the
beast, there rose before his inward sight the picture of a human at once heroic and sick (Golding,
page 103). Simon was a shy boy, therefore he held back this knowledge of the beast from the
boys knowing they would find it silly and push it aside. When Golding says a human at once
heroic and sick it is an example of how someone could be so good but have that inner evil within
themselves. Jack was once seen as heroic for supplying the group with meat from a pig but later he
began to sicken, becoming too engulfed in killing.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nobody seems to listen to Piggy s intelligent ideas of how they should act on the island in order
to survive. When Jack began assembling his own group of boys, under his leadership, things
began to fall apart. Piggy is expressing his frustration towards the boys in the quote, Can t they
see? Can t they understand? Without the smoke signal we ll die here? Look at that! (Golding,
page 139). Piggy, like Simon, has always questioned if the beast could be deeper than a real
being. Therefore, Piggy had a greater fear of the boys abandoning the fire, than he did of the
beast. The boys are being naive, going after pigs and the beast instead of tending the fire, and
Piggy realizes that. He is aware that the boys don t see the importance in the fire signal as he and
Ralph do. Abandoning the fire will lead to no rescue and eventually death upon the island. This
could be foreshadowing Piggy s death since the group of savage boys end up killing

34. There is Only One Cleopatra
Almost every pharaoh queen was named Cleopatra, yet only one is ever thought of, Cleopatra
Thea Philopator VII, The Goddess and Beloved of her Father . Every moment of her life from 69
BCE until August 12, 30 BCE was a story larger than life, epic in scale, and over the top in its
grandeur. As the last reigning pharaoh of the Ptolemaic Dynastyin Ancient Egypt, she is
remembered for her ability to rule as a political genius and a strong female leader living in a
male dominated world despite all odds being against her. Firstly, Cleopatra grew up in the
Ptolemaic palace living a life of luxury, yet her subjects worshipped and even felt connected to
her as more than just their queen. Secondly, after Cleopatra was exiled by her incompetent
brother, Ptolemy XII, she came back with an army of mercenaries and took back Egypt to be its
sole and more qualified ruler. Lastly, Cleopatra went to any means to secure her power and to
ensure her nation s financial and political strength; therefore what started off as a strategic alliance
with Rome slowly became her dominance over most of the ancient world. Pharaohs for centuries
had put themselves on a pedestal, those in the Ptolemaic Dynasty rarely ever connected with their
subjects, but Cleopatra defied this ideology. The Ptolemies were descendants of a general in
Alexander the Great s military and therefore were aligned with Greek and Macedonian traditions.
Previously, Greek rulers and Egyptian subjects caused great division among the

35. The Moral Status Of A Virtual Avatar
The moral status of a virtual Avatar, is a refection of a person s choice, such as that someone s
choices are a representation of how one may react to certain types of online attacks. Virtual rape is
a type of attack that when one avatar gets involved in non consensual sexual behaviors with
another. Obviously not the same as physical rape, virtual rape also harms the person to some
extent. The traumatic experiences avatars experience is valued because morally there is still a
problem with the person controlling the avatar. What is going on online is that hate speech is
occurring as sexual harassment, which explains the immorality of virtual rape. There are many
ways people view the harm virtual rape causes, such as that critics say people can just ignore the
hate speech. Others say that it is still equal harassment in the virtual world, linked to hate speech.

Status of Avatars? Roxanne Marie Kurtz explores the problems... Show more content on

These new non living things come into the world with morality as property because technology is
now effecting basic real life interactions. Technological advances created cochlear and corneal
implants, bionic arms that move through brain waves shows how technology effects morality in
our lives. Kurtz expressed that in real and in virtual life, it is morally permissible to damage or
harm things (living or otherwise). For instance, it is OK to put one s own doll in a trash
compactor. It is OK to harm someone in self defense. It is OK to hit someone in a boxing ring
(perhaps). It is OK to delete one s own avatar. It is OK to kill an avatar in some virtual games a
person is the one driving the avatar, thus whatever way they control and make their avatar shows
their presence in the virtual

36. Scottsboro Boys Research Paper
The Scottsboro Boys The Scottsboro Boys trial was an important piece of history because it was
a big part and steeping stone of the Civil Rights movement, it also showed a great example of
racial inequality. No crime in American history let alone a crime that never occurred produced
as many trials, convictions, reversals, and retrials as did an alleged gang rape of two white girls
by nine black teenagers on a Southern Railroad freight run on March 25, 1931. On the night of
March 25th, 1931, nine young black men were on their way to find work. They were riding in a
freight train to find work. However, they were riding the train illegally and were found after
getting into a fight with two white hobos. The crew found them and called the sheriff and when the
sheriff arrived there were two young white prostitutes riding in a completely different train car than
the black men. Once the sheriff saw the women, Ruby Bates and Victoria Price, he told them that
he knew they were prostitutes and if they didn t accuse the black men of raping them he would take
them to jail. So the women were scared of being caught and accused the nine black men, Charlie
Weems, Ozie Powell, Clarence Norris, Olen Montgomery, Willie Roberson, Haywood Patterson,
Eugene Williams, and Andrew and Leroy Wright, of assaulting and raping them on the train. They
were taken to trial for rape allegations in Jackson County Seat, Scottsboro, Alabama. Despite the
fact that the fourteenth amendment had been voted

37. Homosexuality Is Unnatural
I will argue in support of the statement that homosexuality is not unnatural in any morally
objectionable way. My argument will be backed by evidence and support by John Corvino. With aid
from Burton Leiser, a professor of philosophy at Pace University, Corvino examines several possible
interpretations of the term unnatural to acknowledge and negate different arguments commonly
posed against homosexuality. The five meanings of the term unnatural that Corvino investigates are
what is unusual or abnormal is unnatural, what is not practiced by other animals is unnatural, what
does not proceed from innate desires is unnatural, what violates an organ s principle purpose is
unnatural, and what is disgusting or offensive is unnatural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This idea possibly stems from the common belief that homosexual sex does not result in procreation
(Corvino 6). This proposition assumes that a human s organs each have a singular, principle
purpose for human survival. To counter this premise, Leiser points out that the primary function of
an organ may easily vary upon the owner s needs and desires (Gruen and Panichas 50). Corvino s
perfect example of an organ with multiple purposes is the mouth. A human s mouth is used for
many different functions; eating, breathing, speaking, laughing, and kissing. Another good example
is the human ears they were not intended to hold up glasses, yet they serve to do so anyway, despite
not being their primary function. Corvino also mentions that while someone may go through a list
of an organ s multiple functions and state that some are unnatural but not immoral, they have not
made a clear enough definition of the term natural for this argument (6). It could be said that while
sexual organs can be used for procreation, they can also be used for pleasure, expressing love and
desire, and enhancing an established relationship. Those who agree with this argument and believe
that procreation is the primary, natural purpose of sexual organs should also be against
contraception and masturbation, as these do not factor into procreation, deeming them, by their own

38. Same Sex Marriage Essay
What are others doing?
Canada is not the first country in the world to address whether and how to legally recognize same
sex unions. Indeed, Canada is coming to the debate later than many countries. Several countries
have debated this issue for many years and have come up with a variety of approaches, ranging
from same sex marriage in the Netherlands to the legal recognition of domestic partners, registered
partnerships and civil unions in Scandinavia, parts of Europe and parts of the United States.
Although some of these approaches appear to be similar, each is quite different, as it has been
created to fit the particular society and to comply with the specific constitutional and legal
structures in each country. Most countries have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alberta, in a bill before their legislature, has also raised the possibility of legal recognition for
unmarried couples. Some details are set out below. In addition to these laws, most provinces and
territories have now also legislated to provide some or all of the benefits and obligations of
married couples to common law gay and lesbian couples under provincial and territorial laws.
Quebec
Bill 84 В— An Act instituting civil unions and establishing new rules of filiation В— was passed
by the National Assembly in June 2002. The Act amends the Civil Code and a number of other
provincial laws to create a new status of civil union partners (open to both unmarried opposite sex
and same sex conjugal partners). Civil union partners have almost all of the same benefits and
obligations under provincial law as married couples do, including the legal relationship between the
partner and any children. A civil union can be dissolved by a court judgment, a notarized joint
declaration (under some circumstances) or upon the death of one of the partners. A partner to a
civil union cannot marry without first dissolving the civil union.
While ensuring equal treatment, the Act makes it clear that civil unions are not marriages, and
retains some legal distinctions between the two. For example, some provisions of the Civil Code
that relate to legal separation continue to apply only to married couples.

39. My Best Friend Is My Friend
Everyone has a best friend. Most people have been through multiple best friends within their
lifetime. A best friend is your closest friend, someone to talk to, the first person you think about
when you want to do something, someone to help you with things and they are so much more
than just those qualities. In my case my best friend has helped me become a better person,
helped me to understand certain situations from a different point of view rather than just my
own. She has taught me how to be nicer to people, even people who are not nice to me. She is
there for when I need her and I am there for her when she needs me. It s what best friends do for
each other. I believe that people have best friend soulmates. And I have mine. My best friend,
Natalie, has an incredible impact on my life. Natalie s importance in my life is at a very high
level. I don t know what I would do without her. We have only been friends for a short period of
time compared to my other close friends. We ve only been friends for one year and ten months,
although it feels like it has been centuries. I absolutely adore her. She is one of my favorite people
in my life. She has helped me through some of the worst times in my life and I am so thankful for
her friendship. I would do anything I possibly could to keep her happy. I promised to love her,
advise her, protect her and be there for her when she needs me. When most people say best friends
forever they hardly stay best friends forever. But when I

41. Object Permanence In Children
From birth to the age of two, children have to develop in many more ways than almost any other
age. These years are spent using their sense and movements to properly understand what the
environment is. In order for children to begin this recognition period of the world, they utilize the
little abilities that they are born with: sucking, looking, grasping, and listening. During this stage,
children begin to learn object permanence. Object permanence is realization that objects continue to
exist even when they are out of sight. Such as the startle that a child receives when you play peek a
boo with them. When they cannot see you, they sincerely believe that you are no longer there, and
when you reappear, that are stunned that you have returned.

42. A Dinner At Home Is A Great Experience For People
Having dinner at home is supposed to be a great experience for people: being with families,
enjoying hot soup and eating delicious pork. However, in the article The Diner, Bill Trub
represents a dinner experience which is a little weird to readers. The I returns home and has his
dinner in a small restaurant. During the meal, he sees diners who he cannot recognize behave in
a strange manner. For example, a bearded lady yawns. She s eating meatloaf and mash without a
knife or fork. Her name is Rachel, Denise or Chuck. The town is filled with such people with
such three uncertain names. According to a baby grandfather s words, they are all waiting for
and welcoming I , whose name is Bill, Bill, or Bill here, to get back home. In my eyes, the people
there are like savages or walking bodies. Their identities are unclear and they cannot be
recognized by others, while they act as if they are numb, lacking the ability of thinking. The
fiction is like an exaggerated model of the real world where people are in a tendency to be
objectified, and I would like to share my opinions on why it happens and what it will lead to.
Nowadays, money is taking a significant part of people s life. To get money, lots of people
objectify others as if they are tools instead of humanbeings, and ignore their basic physical and
mental needs. Meanwhile, during the process, they are objectifying themselves also, for they
almost become machines designed for making money. But what is it

43. Rebellion Against Oppression
How Does Oppression Within Like Water for Chocolate and The House of Bernarda Alba Lead To
Unnatural Consequences?
In both Like Water for Chocolate and The House of Bernarda Alba rebellion against oppression is
a strong theme, with both Tita and Adela struggling to break free of their mother s
authoritarianism. However, it is important to realise that with both characters, the authors are
using them to symbolise their own journeys. Federico Garcia Lorca uses Adela s strong willed
fight against Bernarda Alba to represent the costs of repressing the freedom of others. Likewise, in
Like Water for Chocolate, Laura Esquivel uses Tita s constant battle against Mama Elena to show
how women struggle to be heard and how both men and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Angustias is seen looking at Pepe El Romano, her mother asks is it proper for a woman of
your class to go chasing after a man? She is instantly noticing that her daughter is stepping
outside her class and reining her back in. When Matirio is set to marry Enrique Humanas,
Bernarda won t allow it because her blood will never mix with that of the Humanas family
proving that her only real interest is in class rather than the welfare of her daughters. Mama Elena
and Bernarda Alba have different reasons for oppressing their daughters but both women are
equally as keen to enforce their rules. It is ironic how un natural the ends of oppression are shown
to be.
When Tita is brought into the world prematurely after her father s sudden death, Mama Elena is the
opposite of a nurturer, never forging any bond with Tita. Tita develops a relationship with food that
gives her the power to nurture and give outlet to her emotions. Tita rebels against her mother s
authority first through her consorting with Pedro. When Tita receives the news that Pedro is to be
married to Rosaura, her life begins to crumble around her and throughout the novel there are many
times when they meet without Mama Elena s knowledge. Roberto, Rosaura and Pedro s son is a
strong, if not surprising influence in Tita s actions. Roberto forges the bond with Tita that her and
her mother never had and contary to what she had expected she feels an immense tenderness
towards the boy .
