The consequences of pandemic on pregnancy outcomes: Efforts in Ensuring pregn...POSHAN
This document summarizes efforts to ensure proper pregnancy weight gain and nutrition in West Bengal, India during the COVID-19 pandemic. An intervention was piloted with 312 pregnant women who received additional nutrition counseling, weight monitoring, and home visits. Results showed higher pregnancy weight gain and lower low birthweight in the intervention group compared to 389 women only receiving standard antenatal care. Pregnancy weight gain was also higher before the pandemic. The discontinuation of ICDS services during COVID-19 negatively impacted nutrition. Key learnings included the need to prioritize maternal nutrition, weight monitoring, and integrate nutrition into antenatal care to address low birthweight.

The document discusses models used to assess the impact of COVID-19 on meningitis infections. Specifically, it adapted existing meningococcal vaccine models to investigate the effect of lower vaccine uptake and social distancing measures on meningitis infection dynamics in (1) countries in the African meningitis belt where the MenAfriVac vaccine is used and (2) the UK in relation to the MenACWY teenage vaccination program. The modeling of MenACWY in the UK found that a 75-60% reduction in social mixing due to COVID-19 social distancing would substantially reduce meningococcal carriage and disease, outweighing the impact of a 34% reduction in MenACWY vaccine uptake from 2020-

The impact from social media on public healthJosh Trecartin
This document discusses the use of social media in healthcare. It notes that word of mouth spreads faster through social media, with 906 million hours spent on social networks in 2010. Electronic word of mouth reaches more people and is 20 times more influential than marketing events. While social media use by health professionals has increased, it was still underutilized in 2012. Most Americans now turn to the internet for health information, and over half of respondents to a 2013 clinical trial came through Facebook ads.
Progress is being made on developing a combined MenABCWY vaccine. Studies are underway evaluating the immunogenicity and safety of combining different meningococcal vaccines that target serogroups A, C, W, Y. Combining the vaccines could simplify immunization schedules, reduce costs by needing fewer doses, and increase vaccination uptake by reducing the number of required injections. However, a combined vaccine may also increase reactogenicity and interfere with the immune response to other concomitant vaccines. Ongoing studies are evaluating different potential MenABCWY vaccine combinations to determine the optimal formulation.
This study examined sequelae in 49 pediatric patients with invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) in Chile between 2009-2019. The researchers found that 59% of patients experienced sequelae at hospital discharge, with neurological disorders being the most common at 59.2%. Risk factors for sequelae included age under 1 year old, shock, and meningeal signs at admission. Sequelae were also associated with a clinical diagnosis of meningitis with meningococcemia. The study concludes that multidisciplinary follow-up is needed to reduce the long-term impacts of IMD in children.
Social and behavioral determinants lit reviewRosella Anstine
This document provides a summary of a literature review on social and behavioral determinants of adult vaccination. The review identified 71 relevant publications, with 25 focusing on social determinants and 14 on behavioral determinants. For social determinants, key findings included barriers to adult vaccination like lack of access and programs, as well as racial/ethnic divides in vaccination rates. Models like the Diderichsen Framework and theories of intermediary determinants were also discussed. For behavioral determinants, the Health Belief Model and Theory of Planned Behavior were strong predictors of vaccination behavior based on factors like perceived benefits, barriers, and social norms. A gap identified was the lack of research on determinants in low- and middle-income countries.
The document introduces the Global Health Data Exchange (GHDx), a global health data catalog created by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) to increase transparency and access to population health data. GHDx aims to be an intuitive resource that connects data users with producers. It contains a broad range of health-related data types from multiple sources and allows users to search for data by geography, time period, and keyword. Maps on GHDx will also identify areas lacking sufficient data coverage. The ultimate goal is to make health data more accessible and usable to support better health decisions and evidence-based policies.

The goal is for SimFection to improve attitudes towards vaccination in young adults.
The Impact of Pandemic Lockdown Measures on Nutrition of School-age Children:...POSHAN
The survey assessed the health and nutrition of school-aged children in Pakistan before and after COVID-19 lockdowns. It found that lockdowns reduced household incomes and access to healthcare while increasing food insecurity, sedentary behavior, child labor, and malnutrition. Recommendations include developing better data on pandemics' indirect effects and holistic strategies that consider their multifaceted impacts.
Using Maps for Prevention, Planning, and Targeting Experiences from SwazilandMEASURE Evaluation
Using mapping techniques, researchers were able to estimate HIV prevalence at a granular level across Swaziland's regions. This allowed the country to better target its HIV prevention efforts. The analysis used routinely collected data to produce estimates for administrative levels down to 16 square kilometers. This continuous monitoring approach provided valuable information not available from other surveys, which have smaller sample sizes and do not occur regularly. The maps showed HIV prevalence varied significantly across regions, from 12.8-56%, and revealed dense populations of people living with HIV to strategically locate prevention and treatment services.
Professor Muhamed-Kheir TAHA MD, PhD, HDR presented on lessons and impacts for meningitis in the COVID-19 era. Data showed cumulative cases of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) from 2014-2020 in France as well as distribution of IMD cases from 2011-2020. Vaccine use in France declined during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, with reduced doses of the 5-month and 12-month vaccines. Distribution of IMD cases by age group from 2011-2021 showed an immunity gap in childhood due to the pandemic. Conclusions were that reduced pathogen circulation may decrease herd immunity, social distancing was associated with lower vaccine uptake, and countries need plans to promote
While pneumococcal disease primarily burdens infants in their first year of life, relying on herd effects from PCV schedules could help protect others indirectly and reduce costs. However, caution is needed, as indirect protection depends on direct protection of main transmitters, and key questions remain around who transmits, the duration of protection from boosters, and lessons from cRCTs comparing 2-dose and 3-dose schedules in Malawi and Gambia. Programmatic concerns like booster dose coverage, incomplete dosing, travel/border effects, and lack of surveillance also warrant consideration.
The document discusses scaling up national malaria control programs in response to the UN's Quick Impact Initiative by 2008. It aims to achieve a quick impact on malaria by having endemic countries scale up programs using interventions like long-lasting insecticide-treated nets and indoor residual spraying. The initiative supports national strategies to meet Millennium Development Goals like reducing malaria morbidity and mortality by 75% by 2015. Barriers to effective scaling up include lack of coordination, funding, weak health systems, and delays in assessment, planning, and procurement of necessary resources at local levels.
This document discusses considerations for determining which age groups should be targeted for mass meningococcal vaccination campaigns. It notes that conjugate vaccines provide both direct and indirect (herd) protection if the age groups driving transmission are included. Models can simulate different options, like changes to UK MenC schedules or long-term strategies for MenAfriVac. Good age-specific data is needed on disease risk and carriage prevalence to identify peak transmitters. Campaigns targeting ages 1-29 years or compressing to 1-14 years are options, but more modeling is required to evaluate different approaches. Geographic risk must also be considered when expanding meningococcal programs.
This summary provides an overview of a systematic review of 34 HIV/AIDS mass communication campaigns from 1998 to 2007:
1) The review found that campaigns increasingly employed strategies recommended for effective design such as targeted audiences developed through segmentation, behavior-focused themes, use of behavioral theory, high message exposure, stronger research designs, and inclusion of behavior measures.
2) An examination of 10 campaigns using more rigorous designs found that the majority (8 of 10) demonstrated effects on behavior change or intentions.
3) However, most campaigns still used weak pre-experimental evaluation designs, indicating room for improved evaluation practices.

Examples are given of mHealth interventions that have addressed these areas. The document advocates for matching intervention intensity to individual needs and integrating evidence-based interventions to impact multiple outcomes.
The study examined the psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines by surveying 1879 individuals online from March 28 to April 12, 2020. It found that 16.3% reported moderate to severe psychological impact from the outbreak, with 16.9% reporting moderate to severe depressive symptoms and 28.8% reporting moderate to severe anxiety levels. Female gender, younger age, being single or a student, poor health, worry, and family concerns were associated with greater psychological impact. Having good health, confidence in doctors, and older children were associated with less impact. The factors identified could help develop effective psychological support strategies during the pandemic.

ANALYZING THE EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT POLICIES AND STRICTNESS LEVELS ON MONTHLY ...IJDKP
The corona virus is one of the most unprecedented events of recent decades. Countries struggled to identify
appropriate COVID-19 policies to prevent virus spread effectively. Although much research has been
done, little focused on policy effectiveness and their enforcement levels. As corona virus cases and death
numbers fluctuated among countries, questions of which policies are most effective in preventing corona
virus spread and how strict they should be implemented have yet to be answered. Countries are prone to
making policy and implementation errors that could cost lives. This research identified the most effective
policies and their most effective enforcement levels through data analysis of 12 common coronavirus
policies. A monthly case increase rate prediction model was developed to enable decision makers to
evaluate the effectiveness of COVID-19 policies and their enforcement levels so that they can implement
policies efficiently to save lives, time, and money.
This document discusses the relationship between epidemiology and public health. It argues that epidemiology has become too focused on identifying disease risk factors and transmission, and has lost sight of its original goal of improving overall population health. It proposes that epidemiology should adopt a more holistic approach that integrates biological, social, and analytical perspectives to better inform public health interventions and policies. Recent decades have seen the growth of international training programs to develop epidemiologists able to address global health challenges.
Potential of social media as a tool to combat foodborne illnessMarcella Zanellato
Abstract
The use of social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, has been increasing
substantially in recent years and has affected the way that people access information online.
Social media rely on high levels of interaction and user-generated context shared through
established and evolving social networks. Health information providers must know how to
successfully participate through social media in order to meet the needs of these online
audiences. This article reviews the current research on the use of social media for public health
communication and suggests potential frameworks for developing social media strategies. The
extension to food safety risk communication is explored, considering the potential of social
media as a tool to combat foodborne illness.
This document summarizes findings from interviews with 33 infection control liaisons from VA facilities regarding communication and information sharing during the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic. Key findings include that the most common barriers to effective communication were information overload and contradictory information from different sources. Facilitators included timely and organized information from multiple channels. Recommendations focused on developing standardized educational materials and communication plans within facilities to disseminate information and prevent future issues.

It suggests establishing "community health ambassadors" who are members of these communities and trained to conduct local outreach through social events. These ambassadors would address health concerns, build trust, and recruit new ambassadors. Evaluation methods would include surveying participants and measuring changes in vaccination rates over time. Competing solutions target specific demographic groups or leverage trusted community leaders and financial incentives. Remaining gaps include ensuring access to vaccines in rural areas and building trust through consistent, factual communication and addressing concerns with local medical experts.

This document discusses the importance of financial planning for sports organizations and businesses. Financial planning involves examining future income and expenses to help guide a company's direction and requires developing a budget, which acts as a roadmap. A budget focuses on what a business wants to accomplish during a set period for a given product or industry unit. Financial planning can help provide appropriate solutions for common business problems and maximize the impact of every dollar spent. Developing budgets is a key part of effective financial planning.
This document provides information about preparing for an influenza pandemic. It discusses the differences between seasonal and pandemic influenza and the potential toll a pandemic could take in the US. It emphasizes the importance of social distancing measures and developing community and individual preparedness plans. These plans should address caring for children if schools close, ensuring essential services continue, and encouraging sick individuals to stay home. Preparing at both community and individual levels can help delay and reduce the spread of a pandemic virus.

This document discusses approaches to combining datasets from multiple trusted research environments for federated analysis. It describes several approaches: the Linked Data approach which uses Semantic Web standards to represent data; the OMOP CDM approach which uses a common data model format; the Custom API approach which uses APIs to share specific data points; the Dedicated Environment approach which connects environments through a dedicated network; and a Hybrid approach combining aspects of different methods. Each approach has advantages and challenges to consider for different federated analysis use cases. Other factors like data anonymization, versioning, and security also need to be addressed.
This document summarizes a study analyzing the Twitter usage of journals indexed in the Science Citation Index (SCI). The researchers identified 857 SCI journals with Twitter accounts and extracted over 950,000 tweets. They analyzed the Twitter conversation network and found SCI journals had a higher rate of intra-index conversations than humanities and social sciences journals. The network structure of SCI journals formed a "tight crowd" graph centered around Nature journals, unlike the "community cluster" structure of humanities graphs. News portals, scientific organizations, and top journals were identified as prominent authorities in the SCI Twitter network. The top hub journals in the network represented medicine, biology, and chemistry and had high journal impact factors.

The document discusses the results of a study on the impact of COVID-19 lockdowns on air pollution. Researchers found that lockdowns led to significant short-term reductions in nitrogen dioxide and fine particulate matter pollution globally as economic activities slowed. However, the impacts on greenhouse gases and long-term air quality improvements remain uncertain without permanent behavior and economic changes.
This document summarizes a study comparing field-weighted readership (FWRI) to field-weighted citations (FWCI). The key findings are:
1) There is a strong correlation between publications read and cited, though readership may be influenced by size and geographic distribution of readers.
2) FWRI and FWCI are also strongly correlated when normalized for size, removing the effect of specialization.
3) FWRI has a small advantage over FWCI in most fields, especially agriculture and social sciences. Variations between countries also tend to hold true within fields.

Factors affecting undergraduate students’ motivation at a university in Tra VinhAJHSSR Journal
ABSTRACT: Motivation plays an important role in foreign language learning process. This study aimed to
investigate student’s motivation patterns towards English language learning at a University in Tra Vinh, and factors
affecting their motivation change toward English language learning of non-English-major students in the semester.
The researcher used semi-structured interview at the first phase of choosing the participants and writing reflection
through the instrument called “My English Learning Motivation History” adapted from Sawyer (2007) to collect
qualitative data within 15 weeks. The participants consisted of nine first year non-English-major students who learning
General English at pre-intermediate level. They were chosen and divided into three groups of three members each
(high motivation group; average motivation group; and low motivation group). The results of the present study
identified six visual motivation patterns of three groups of students with different motivation fluctuation, through the
use of cluster analysis. The study also indicated a diversity of factors affecting students’ motivation involving internal
factors as influencing factors (cognitive, psychology, and emotion) and external factors as social factors (instructor,
peers, family, and learning environment) during English language learning in a period of 15 weeks. The findings of
the study helped teacher understand relationship of motivation change and its influential factors. Furthermore, the
findings also inspired next research about motivation development in learning English process.
KEY WORDS: language learning motivation, motivation change, motivation patterns, influential factors, students’
