Transport modelling utrecht
The document discusses the development of a bicycle transportation model in the Netherlands. It aims to better represent cyclists in transportation decision making by providing insight into the numbers of utility cyclists and missing link calculations. Electromobility and Construction Machinery
The search for energy efficient solutions goes on also for construction machinery, and hybrids are a given topic. This seminar looks at related research and pre-development at Volvo Construction Equipment and focuses on wheel loaders. In these machines, drive train and hydraulics are both equally powerful and compete for the limited engine torque. There is a large theoretic potential for the increase of energy efficiency, but to leverage this, a holistic approach is needed. The wheel loader is examined as a system with drive train and hydraulics as two parallel energy conversion systems that show a complex interaction with each other and the power source. Using a systematic design approach, several principle design solutions for hybridization can be found and are discussed.
Virtual Reality in Online Graduate Instruction: A Seven Year Overview
This presentation highlights seven years of integrating virtual reality into online education courses to build community, share work, create virtual conferences and poster sessions, and develop collaborative projects. A new course has students beginning to design their own complex virtual environments. Suggestions on effective virtual usage to be shared too.

There is a large theoretic potential for the increase of energy efficiency, but to leverage this, a holistic approach is needed. This presentation will examine the wheel loader as a system with drive train and hydraulics as two parallel energy conversion systems that show a complex interaction with each other and the power source. Using a systematic design approach, several principle design solutions for hybridization can be found.
Furthermore, the human operator with his/her control actions needs to be considered as part of the total system. Properties such as productivity, energy efficiency, and operability are all not only dependent on inherent machine properties and working place conditions, but also on how the operator uses the machine. In the case of a wheel loader, the momentary power distribution to drive train and hydraulics is specific for the working task at hand and is controlled by the operator, who ultimately balances the complete system and actively adapts to both the machine, the task at hand, and the working place.
Towards a Machine-Actionable Scholarly Communication System
The presentation explores the trend towards a scholarly communication system that is friendly to machines. It presents 3 exhibits illustrating the trend and 1 exhibit illustrating inertia in the system. It makes the point that machine-actionability can be much easier achieved if content and metadata are available in Open Access and under a permissive Creative Commons license. It also observes that even with content and metadata openly available, new costs related to advanced tools to explore the scholarly record will emerge. Finally, it points at significant challenges regarding the persistence of the scholarly record in light of increasingly interconnected and actionable content and advanced tools to interact with it.
The slides were used for a plenary presentation at the LIBER 2011 Conference in Barcelona, Spain, on June 30 2011.

Emerging technologies like QR Codes and Augmented Reality can help libraries extend services, widen access to resources, and promote events to users in exciting and innovative ways. Using simple and free technologies, QR codes can be created easily and embedded almost anywhere. These oddly shaped barcode-like icons are processed by camera phones to direct the user to online websites, videos, or they can simply provide more information.
Augmented reality takes existing visual or video information and adds additional layers of computer-generated graphics, pattern recognition, and other visual effects. This session will highlight how the University of Houston Libraries and other types of libraries are using these technologies to promote, market, outreach, teach, and engage with users in new and exciting ways.

This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
