Job Interview At The United States
Introduction At the age of 17 I enlisted in the United States Navy, and since have completed multiple
combat deployments, lived overseas and been a part of multiple other billets representing the United
States of America. These were times well spent, however, only to a very limited extent did they
prepare me to conduct an affective and articulate job interview. Present day, the U.S. Military has
implemented an extensive job interview process, with the goal of selecting qualified individuals for
vital roles within our government. The job interview project opened my eyes to a world of preparation
and focus that I never knew existed. In this paper, I prepare a job interview strategy, identifying a few
character traits that are the foundation of my being, and then link these traits to memorable life
experiences that have had a profound effect upon me and those who I interacted with. The next few
sections of the paper entail observations and a critique of a recently conducted mock job interview,
and my elevator speech which is hyper linked for reference. I conclude with vital lessons learned
throughout the job interview process and project courses of action for a successful outcome from
future interviews.
Key traits and life experiences that have shaped who I am
Spending a fair amount of time deployed in the defense of the United States of America has led me to
appreciate all that this country has to offer, and not take the freedoms we enjoy for granted. Most of

Rhetorical Analysis Of Charles Chaplin s Speech By Charlie...
The speech is about Charlie Chaplin don t want to be a emperor and rule or conquer anyone. He want
to be cool with everyone if it is possible. He said he don t want to hurt no one feelings and he said
there is plenty of space for people. Charlie Chaplin said don t give yourselves to people if you don t

Teen Suicide Prevention: Putting Meaning Back Into the Lives of Young
Statistics reveal that in the US approximately...nearly one million people attempt suicide each year (
Suicide Risk Among Abused Children. ). Suicide is not an act of randomness. It is a result of
prolonged feelings and/ or events, which push that person to extremes they desperately want out of.
Suicide rates are amongst the highest in teens, due to their lack of support systems. During these years
many are trying to find out who they are and fit in, thus many get accepted into some people s views,
but there are also a good number that get ignored and feel like they do not belong anywhere. Teen
suicide can be a result of a home life of abuse or mistreatment, psychological disorders, and lack of
social support bullying; however, through the education on the warning signs of suicide, providing
more emotional outlets at schools, and creating safer environments the number of annual victims can
be decreased. Living in a house full of mistreatment and abuse can eat away at a teenager more than
many would like to admit. Abuse (physical, sexual, psychological) has no benefits, instead it causes
individuals to see themselves as not enough and that they are not wanted anywhere. Teenagers are
already vulnerable to the pressures of high school, and trying to find themselves. In school there are
many stressors such as grades, friends, teachers,

Essay on Robert Nozick´s Happiness and the Experience Machine
Robert Nozick s Happiness
Many theorist believe that happiness is the only important in people s life, and all that should matter to
a person is being happy. The standard of assessing a good life is how much or quantity of happiness it
contains. This openness of happiness, its generosity of spirit and width of appreciation, gets warped
and constricted by the claim pretending to be its greatest friend that only happiness matters, nothing
else. Robert Nozick does not on the side of hedonistic utilitarianism, he gives several examples to
show that there are other elements of reality we may strive for, even at the expense of pleasure. In this
essay, I will focus on Nozick s opinion of the direction of happiness and the experience ... Show more
content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nozick briefly discusses the nature of pleasure, as it is clearly an important element of happiness.
There are pleasures of the body and mind, as well as pleasures of the emotion. They are all valued for
their felt quality that what they have in common That is what a pleasure is, and is different from
something like Equality, which is not valued for good feelings , but pleasure is something valued for
its felt qualities.
The experience machine is one of Nozick s best known arguments . The experience machine is a
thought experiment which posits the existence of a device that can give its user any experience
desired. When one placed in an experience machine , it can program any experience, such as traveling
to the moon. The experience machine is supposed to allow someone to have all and any of the
pleasures in the world. However, Nozick states that even though if such machine exits no one would
use it, which shows that there are more important things than pleasure.
What Nozick suggests is that we would not use such a machine. Here are some arguments from
Nozick.
1) if the only thing that mattered to us was pleasure, then we would plug ourselves into a machine that
could any simulate experiences we desired.
2) Even if the machine existed, we would not plug ourselves into it for three reasons:
 What we want not just experience them, but actually do certain things
 We want to

The Pros And Cons Of C-Section Births
Description Due to cesarean section, it is proven that c section birth causes infants to be at greater risk
of developing a host of illnesses such as, asthma, type 1 diabetes, as they progress and grow older; As
Australia has one of the highest c section rates in the world with now at 32% of the population having
a cesarean birth (s. McCulloch, 2018). Indigenous mothers are more likely to experience more long
term issues and even perinatal death compared to the 0.7% of non aboriginal and non Torres Strait
islander mothers (The Department of Health, 2011). Researchers at the University of Alberta have
been investigating whether gut bacteria play a role in this issue or poor procedure and lack of medical
equipment in indigenous communities. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These social disadvantages directly relate to dispossession and are characterized by poverty and
powerlessness, and are reflected in education, Racism and discrimination are directly associated with
poorer health outcome which again links up with the dangers of c section and even general vaginal
birth (Pharmaceutical society of Australia, 2014). Aboriginal and Torres strait islander mothers find c
section birth to be more preferred as it doesn t risk the mother and child, but this is not always the case
(Baby Care, 2018). About 1 in 12 women get an infection, such as cellulitis, abdominal abscess,
thrush, urinary tract and bladder infection after having a c section birth (D. R. Wilson, 2018).
Indigenous mothers are more likely to develop these infections. These infections could be easily being
treated by the consumption of antibiotics. Communication between researchers is found to be highly
effective, as more and more mothers in indigenous communities and other communities are being
more aware and notified about the effects of c section birth to the child and mother. The samples
collected back up the researcher s statements and provide the public about how this can be improved.
Without communication between researchers, lack of knowledge would increase and so will the rate
of c section births in remote communities and private hospital. Lack of medical equipment would also
increase in remote communities which will indeed result in an increased rate of deaths in indigenous

Gregor Mendel Genius of Genetics Essay
Gregor Mendel
The Genius of Genetics
BACKGROUND
Gregor Mendor was born the second of three children to Anton and Rosine Mendel on July 22, 1822
in Heizendorf (the Czech Republic. His given name was Johann. He was the son of a farmer who
owned his own land and taught his son the value of hard work. The two of them spent many hours in
their orchard and garden. This is where much of his learning began. During his youth, Mendel studied
science, plants and beekeeping He continued to excel in school and graduated with the highest honors
from high school at age 18. Because his family was poor, Mendel struggled to complete his education.
His sister contributed to help further his studies until he could find work. He ... Show more content on

His work made it possible for the first time to exploit the genetic resources of organisms
systematically. Mendel s name marks not only the beginning of genetics as a discipline, but also the
beginning of the systematic use of mathematics, qualified measurements and applied statistics in
biology.
HOW WORK WAS VIEWED BY CONTEMPORARIES There was little reaction to Mendel s early
discoveries from the scientific community. After eight years of carrying out experimental work in the
monastery garden, he shared his findings in several monthly meetings of the Natural Research
Association. Mendel published his lecture, a work that was to establish him as the father of genetics .
Several offprints were sent out, but these were ignored. The importance of Mendel s work was
recognized only 34 years after his work ended. In 1900 Mendel s Laws were rediscovered by Carl
Correns in German, Hugo de Vries in the Netherlands and Erich von Tschermak Seysenegg in Austria.
HOW HIS WORK IS VIEWED TODAY Mendel s work started a science about heredity. This new
science became known as genetics. Scientists began to discover from Mendel s papers the laws he
discovered of Segregation and Independent Assortment. Mendel s observation s and outstanding
intellectual achievement gave scientist the basis for understanding genotypes, traits and

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) Essay
You have probably heard and may even have used the term hyperactivity. The notion is a modern one:
there were no hyperactive children 50 to 60 years ago. Today, if anything, the term is applied too often
and too widely. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) estimates that
all teachers have in their classrooms at least one child with ADHD (Simmons, RG. 1993).
Actually, hyperactivity is not one particular condition: it is a set of behaviors such as excessive
restlessness and short attention span that are quantitatively and qualitatively different from those
children of the same sex, mental age, and socioeconomic status (Gutskey, T.R. 1991).
Today most psychologists agree that the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Still others may get lost in the directions along the way. A careful observer can watch and see where
the attention process breaks down for a particular child.
Symptoms of inattention, as listed in the DSM IV, are:
Often fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, or other
activities
Often has difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play activities
Often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly
Often does not follow through on instructions and fails to finish schoolwork, chores, or duties in the
workplace (not due to oppositional behavior or failure to understand instructions)
Often has difficulty organizing tasks and activities
Often avoids, dislikes, or is reluctant to engage in tasks that require sustained mental effort (such as
schoolwork or homework)
Often loses things necessary for tasks or activities (e.g., toys, school assignments, pencils, books, or
tools)
Often easily distracted by extraneous stimuli
Often forgetful in daily activities (Soar, R.S. Soar, R.M. 1993)
What causes ADHD?
ADHD is a neurobiologically based developmental disability estimated to affect between 3 5 percent
of the school age population (Panksepp, J. 1998). No one knows exactly what causes ADHD.
Scientific evidence suggests that the disorder is genetically transmitted in many cases and results from
a chemical imbalance

My Passion For Reading
My passion for reading is an aspect of me that has never failed to go unnoticed it is hardly a surprise
for those around me to see a book in my hand wherever I go, absorbed by a world that was not
invented by me. As a result of this, I was recognised within school as my picture was placed on the
wall in the English Department praising how much I read. As a child I wanted to become an author so
the ability to enter somebody s thoughts through words on a page has always filled me with a genuine
excitement. There is no doubt that an English degree at University is for me, I want to continue my
love for the subject in depth and take this further to become a Secondary Teacher of English.
Through studying English at University I will be able to study modules that truly fascinate me and
encourage me to read books more imaginatively and critically. Recently in the news it has been said
that due to Brexit there is the possibility that a new language could be forming Euro English.
Developments in the English language never fail to intrigue me as teaching English at a secondary
school is the career I am working towards and this ultimately changes the future of teaching.
At A level I study English Literature, Psychology and Biology all of which are essay based. Essay
based subjects are beneficial to me as this is how I am most comfortable working. I also completed the
Extended Project Qualification in which I chose to write an investigation on the moon landing s of
1969. This

Origin Of Creation Myths
I have learned from the textbook that there are essentially two different ways that people have sought
to understand their origins. The first has to with storytelling in the creation (or origin) myths. These
myths are explanations of how a group of people decided their moral principles that allowed them to
establish a set of rules for their relationships with each other, nature, and the supernatural world. The
explanation of how these relationships worked and came to be further created distinct cultural and
societal structures that each member of that community would follow and share. One of the creation
myths I cam across while reading about Mesopotamia was that of the Babylonian people who believed
that humankind had been created from the

Analysis Of Joshua Foer s The End Of Remembering
Anyone reading Joshua Foer s The End of Remembering can assume that he knows a lot about the
brain and how it works. After all he graduated from Yale in 2004, and later went on to become the
2006 United States Memory Champion. With Foer s interest in mental athletes he decided to do a
journalism project to study them. This project would end up being the result of his book,
Moonwalking with Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything from which The End of
Remembering is one of the chapters. In this chapter Foer s lays a solid foundation of the development
of writing. He also includes historical views of remembering and how we learned in terms of our
memory. Foer not only gives historical views but supports his claims with science ... Show more

After thinking about this question for some time I came up with a very simple answer. We write to
discover meaning. When we read we ask questions on what an author s point is. What is his or her
point that they are trying to make? After reading The End of Remembering I noticed that we write to
put our thoughts on paper. Like the Editors say in the introduction to The Ways of Reading, These
essays are meant to be challenging. (Editors 8) Foer s The End of Remembering is a great essay that
has no boundaries in terms of the questions asked. It also presents different arguments that can be
developed on memory. Foer wants his readers to think on why the subjects of reading and writing are
important. He starts the chapter with the subject of memory but asks why we read.
In conclusion, The End of Remembering basically gives us a big overview of how we learn today. It
lets us know that with even all that is available to us we still need to think, remember, read, and write
to learn. In the conclusion of this essay Foer writes, Our memories, the essence of our selfhood, are
actually bound up in a whole lot more than the neurons in our brain. (Foer 175) Foer is trying to
remind his readers of the simple importance of learning. We still need to think and read. We still need
to write. We still need to remember. Foer s The End of Remembering brings these truths to

New Journalism
Is New Journalism a literary genre? Analyse with reference to the literary techniques used in two
examples of New Journalism.
Word Count 2231
I suppose the most common sense point at which to start is by defining New Journalism, or Literary
Journalism, as Eisenhuth and McDonald (2007, p. 38) say it is called at the upper end of the spectrum.
The Collins Concise Dictionary (1999, p. 995) defines New Journalism as a style of journalism, using
techniques borrowed from fiction to portray a situation of event as vividly as possible.
Wikipedia (2010) defines it as a style of 1960s and 1970s news writing and journalism that used
literary techniques deemed unconventional at the time.
The meaning of New Journalism has evolved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Interestingly, Capote, along with Mailer and many other authors, never agreed to their style s
comparisons to Wolfe s school of narration. Much to the contrary, many of these writers would deny
that their work was generically relevant to other new Journalists at the time.
In a 1966 Atlantic article, Dan Wakefield said that the non fiction work of Capote elevated reporting to
the level of literature. Although praising the work of Capote, this goes some way in saying that
literature is better than journalism. This is evidence for what Capote said his critics felt: Combining
literature and journalism is little more than a literary solution for fatigued novelists. (Plimpton, 1967,
p. 16)
Newfield (1967, p. 20) said that, This new genre defines itself by claiming many of the techniques that
were once the unchallenged terrain of the novelist: tension, symbol, cadence, irony, prosody,
imagination.
Gay Talese s 1966 article for Esquire magazine, Frank Sinatra Has a Cold, was a very influential piece
of New Journalism that gave a very detailed portrait of Frank Sinatra, without ever having interviewed
him.
Talese undertook huge amounts of research, as did many of the New journalists, including Capote
with In Cold Blood. Unlike Capote, Talese did not invent facts of characters. His article is, therefore,
an example of New Journalism that falls under the category of a journalistic genre, as opposed to a
distinct

Racial Profiling And The American Civil Liberties Union Essay
Racial Profiling
The concept of racial profiling has its wide range of definitions. According to the American Civil
Liberties Union, racial profiling means the discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of
targeting individuals for suspicion of crime based on the individual s race, ethnicity, religion or
national origin. In other words, racial profiling has its assumptions that particular individuals are more
likely to be involved in transgression or unlawful activities based on individual s race or background.
Racial profiling does not just exist today; it thrives and mostly propels a brutalizing message and
inhuman misconception to citizens of the United States whom they are pre judged by the color of their
skin. The primary cause of profiling is racism or race related discrimination. Unfortunately, this
unwarranted approach is now commonly used by law enforcement officers, even though it could be
both unjust and unconstitutional. Not only does it violate the core principles of this country, but it can
be dangerous and deadly because it threatens our privacy and security. It is also a threat to racial
equality, where many influential and prominent people have fought for to accomplish. Although many
heroic activist leaders have ended racial division to its certain extent, yet many African Americans all
over America still face the rigid unequal world because of unjustifiable race related tragedies that
tremendously affects African Americans.

it is meant to surprise the listener rather than a softer intro. It is meant to get the listeners attention as

How Career Is A Successful Internship
How to Accomplish a Successful Internship
For a college student, internship experience not only broadens one s horizons, but it also enriches one
s resume. For me, an internship is a good way to apply what I ve learned at school to professional
experience. While we students are seeking internship opportunities to qualify ourselves for good job
positions, figuring out what we have obtained from internship experience and preparing for future
internships or jobs is even more important.
The book They Don t Teach Corporate in College gives me instructions of how to follow a successful
career path. While combining my personal internship experience with what I learned from the book, I
have a better understanding of how to prepare, pursue and finally accomplish a successful internship.
To begin with, you need to know about yourself. Figuring out your strengths and weaknesses can help
you find suitable fields and relevant jobs quickly and accurately. I once worked as an assistant for a
financial accountant in the Trade and Finance Department at Bank of China. One of the reasons I got
the internship was because the department desired interns who had good English writing skills. While
I am an international student studying in America, the manager thought I had the skills. Therefore,
knowing about your skills and making the best use of them on your resumes can lead to internship
opportunities.

According to David M. Newman a social movement is a; framework of society social institutions,

Mohammed. Also that the situation was brought to light and was not swept under the rug like some
past situations have been.
I honestly believe that this movement could have had more of an effect on society if it had the right
leadership and support. But unfortunately it was mostly being led by Ahmed Mohammed a fourteen
year old freshman high school. I do believe that this a big issue in a lot of places, with all the races. I
believe that society has become so focused on the outside appearance of things, and listening to the
media to see how to judge people. When in fact they really do not look at the situation before they

Compare And Contrast Chopin And Dunbar
Introduction: How did Chopin and Dunbar respond to the turmoil in their lives and society.
As the oppression of slavery died out, a new age began to dawn of both technology and economics,
also a new age also dawned for poets, writers, and the everyday person. The people of this age would
experience something new from these poets and writers, no longer taking the people to a far away
place, a place where starving, suffering, everyday life, doesn t exists; no these poets would take their
readers to their neighbors and maybe even themselves, show them the things we didn t want to see.

Dunbar wrote about his hero Douglass, a person who stood up against the oppression of slaves, and
black people. And Chopin, wrote about Mrs. Mallard. A woman who even frail, suffered everyday.
Not being able to experience her own world, locked in a mental cage that was her marriage. So, with
Dunbar rising in fame, for his stories about the suffering and disillusionment of the African American
experience, he would meet Frederick Douglass, a famous African American lecturer, editor, and
leader. They both thought very highly of each other, so the poem written by Dunbar named Douglass
was a cry for help from his long dead friend. Dunbar writes, Oh, for thy voice high sounding o er the
storm, for thy strong arm to guide the shivering bark, the blast defying power of thy form, to give us
comfort through the lonely dark. Dunbar wishes for Douglass to come help his people of this time, to
be their loud voice again, to use his strong to guide our shivering souls to a better place, and to be a
hero once again. So with the suffering a people, we turn to the suffering of a gender. Kate Chopin
whose writings were mostly about women of the time, wrote the short story, The Story of an Hour. A
story about a women Mrs. Mallard. Where unexpectedly, one day her husband died in a train crash,
and when she found out she wept, with the feeling of sudden abandonment in her heart, yet as she
grieved the loss of her husband, she felt a feeling that had long been forgotten. She was beginning to
recognize this thing that was approaching... she said it over and over under her breath free, free, free!.

and Mrs. Mallard are people of likeable characteristics, giving the people who read their story a sense

Differences and Similarities of Ugo Foscolo s and Giacomo...
Discuss the differences and similarities of Ugo Foscolo s and Giacomo Leopardi s concept of human
existence through the analysis of their more representative works. The centrality of pessimism in both
Leopardi s and Foscolo s poetry is clearly due to the influence of Romanticism, the new cultural,
artistic and literary movement that was expanding in all Europe during the first decades of XIX
century and that introduces an alternative concept to the previous illuminist philosophy, based on the
disquietude and the dissatisfaction of human psyche that has to incessantly fight against illusions of
reality. The negativism on the concept of human existence is exposed in the poets works: one of the
notes in the Lo Zibaldone Dei pensieri , a personal diary full of Leopardi s annotations says: Il dolore
o la disperazione che nasce dalle grandi passioni o illusioni o da qualunque sventura della vita non è

We use the railroads for many things now days. In the civil war, railway systems were one way a force
could gain the benefits of inside argumentation,, and as generals pursued this strategy the Civil war
became the first great railroad war in Mississippi. The Mississippi railroads made it easier for things to
transport in and out of Mississippi. The status of inside lines can be achieved by a violence having a
central location relation to the enemy or by a force having superior lateral communication relative to
the enemy. It is the importance of railroads and the interior lines that they promised that catapulted the
otherwise modest town of Corinth, Mississippi into the center stage of the Civil state of War. At the
meter of the Civil War, Corinth was still a young town. Corinth stands as a multi faceted

What Is The Validity Of The Turing Test
Alan Turing was a famous British mathematician and computer scientist who was determined to prove
that machines at some point (possibly sometime in the future) would be able to surpass humans in
intelligence levels. In order to prove this true, he created what became to be known as, The Turing
Test. This test was basically to see if a computer could trick a person into believing that it was human.
It would be asked a series of questions, which would be compared to responses of the human. It was
designed so that one could judge the intelligence level of the computers responses. Turing believed
that if a human could not tell the difference between another human and a computer, then it served as
proof that a computer is equally intelligent as a human. Due to a large ... Show more content on

This objection basically states that there is no machine out there that can feel or think in the way that
humans can when it comes to emotions, feeling pleasure, depression, embarrassment, and other
similar qualities, feelings, and emotions. Therefore due to machines lacking these feelings there is no
way that they can be more intelligent than humans. It is explaining a rejection of the validity of Turing
s test. It takes it a step further by saying not only can these machines not express its thoughts and/or
feelings, but that one can not even be certain that a machine thinks, unless you can be that machine
and feel oneself actually thinking. Basically the only way that we could possibly know if the machine
has these thoughts or feelings would be if one could be the actual machine itself. Then it would
require some form of self consciousness. This is following the solipsist point of view, which is the
theory that the self is all that can be known to exist. However, this would not only hold true for
machines, but for humans as well. Then, the only way to be certain that a particular person is thinking,
would be to be that particular

Recrystallization Lab
Purpose:
The purpose of recrystallization lab is to recrystallize cream of tartar from water.
Procedure:
1. Obtain and weigh a sample of potassium hydrogen tartrate; use between 200 and 300 mg.
2. In a boiling water bath, heat a sample of distilled water.
3. Dissolve your sample in a minimum of water. To do this, add the water drop wise to your solid,
stirring well between each drop, until the solid just dissolves. You might have to heat the test tube
while you are adding the water to keep the solution hot.
4. After getting the solid to dissolve, allow the solution to cool slowly and look for crystals. After the
solution has cooled to close to room temperature, cool it in an ice bath. Collect the solid using vacuum
filtration and your Hirsh ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Weigh the solid and after drying.
Data:
Cream of tartar = 0.218g
Empty plastic dish = 2.161g
Cream of tartar recovered with plastic dish = 2.212g
Calculations:
%recovery= amount recovered / initial amount x 100%
2.212g 2.161g = 0.051g
0.051/ 0.218 = 0.2339
0.2339 x 100 = 23.4%
Discussion:
My data is bad because in the calculations, it showed that it is 23.4 percent. However, the test tube did
show little bit crystals while using the spatula to scratch the tube.
Error Analysis:
There are few errors in the lab. The grams of cream of tartar might become less because it is hard to
scrape the crystals out of the test tube so it will be stuck inside the test tube and some of them is still in
the plastic boat dish. During the experiment, the water may have added too much that causing
precipitating out. Also, it is may not heat enough the test tube while adding hot water.
Modification:
We would spend more time scraping the test tube to create crystals and be more careful with adding
water so it won t precipitating out.
Conclusion:
We recrystallized cream of tartar from water with 23.4 percent recovery.

* Phillip J. Cooper, Plaintiff Appellant, Administrator * Charles Austin, Defendant Appellant * Alois
B. Greer, Proponent of the codicil
Facts:
* This is a will contest case involving a codicil to the Last Will and Testament of Wheelock A. Bisson,
M.D., deceased. * Dr. Bisson s will, which is not contested, was executed June 18, 1982.
Prior Proceedings: * Dr. Bisson died in 1985, and shortly thereafter Greer filed a petition in probate
court to admit the June 18, 1982, will and two codicils thereto dated August 20, 1984, and August 6,

Greer, had not met her burden of proof pursuant to T.C.A. § 32 1 104, regarding the manner in which a
will must be executed. * The trial court granted Austin s motion and directed a verdict on the grounds
that Ms. Greer had not proved the proper execution of the codicil. * Accordingly, judgment was
entered declaring that the last will and testament of Wheelock A. Bisson dated June 18, 1982, be
admitted to probate without any codicils.
Issue:
1. The first issue is whether the trial court erred in denying Greer s motion for summary judgment on
the grounds that Mr. Austin s will contest was barred by T.C.A. § 32 4 108 (Supp. 1991). 2. The
second issue for review is whether the trial court erred in directing a verdict for the contestant Austin
by refusing to allow the 1984 codicil to be submitted to the jury.
Holding:
The rule for determining a motion for directed verdict requires the trial judge and the reviewing court
on appeal to look to all of the evidence, taking the strongest legitimate view of it in favor of the
opponent of the motion and allowing all reasonable inferences from it in his favor. The court must
discard all countervailing evidence, and if there is then any dispute as to any material determinative
evidence or any doubt as to the conclusion to be drawn from the whole evidence, the motion must be
denied. Tennessee Farmers Mut.

Debt Relief Initiatives in Poor Countries
Debt Relief initiative
Many governmental and non governmental organizations argued that external constraint like high
inherited levels of foreign debt have crippled in the capacity of low income countries to overcome
poverty and that concessional lending s are not enough. This lead to the Enhanced Heavily Indebted
Poor Country (HIPC) initiative in 1996 in collaboration with world bank to eliminate unsustainable
debt in the world s poorest and most heavily indebted countries.
A summit meeting in 1999 expanded the spectrum of eligible countries for debt relief with higher and
faster reliefs. This came to be known as Enhanced HIPC Initiative.
The aim of Enhanced HIPC initiative was to achieve a level of indebtedness that would enable the
country to service its debt in a sustainable manner. The program compares the actual level of
indebtedness and debt servicing burden to a constant theoretical sustainable level which is
predetermined by the large industrial countries to which these debt are owed. Currently, the maximum
net present value of sustainable debt to exports is 150 percent (of traditional 200% 250%) or debt to
fiscal revenue is 250 percent (of traditional 280%). The enable countries qualify for debt relief in two
stages:
In the first stage:
The debtor s country has to create a satisfactory track record in an IMF or IDA program and
demonstrate the capacity to use IMF assistance prudently. Once the country is considered eligible, the
data is processed.

Ford Mustang And The Chevrolet Camaro
GM and Ford team up again, but there are other partnerships between automotive rivals to consider.
Who would have thunk it?! For 2017, the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro will share a 10
speed automatic transmission as a result of a collaborative engineering effort between General Motors
and the Ford Motor Company.
How s that again?
In 2013, Detroit s top rivals signed an agreement to jointly develop new 9 and 10 speed automatic
transmissions with front and rear wheel drive variants. The collaborative effort means both companies
are able to design, engineer, establish, test, corroborate and distribute new transmissions at a faster
rate and for a lower cost than they would have on their own.
Improved Performance, Better Efficiency
The effort has yielded a new 10 speed automatic transmission, one that will find its way into various
models over the next few years. That the two competing pony cars will share the same transmission
means one less important edge for both manufacturers. Instead, the two companies will have to find
other ways to beat each other with such factors as horsepower, steering and handling, and
aerodynamics providing key differences.
At the same time, buyers of both models will enjoy two important benefits 10 speed transmissions
provide better off the line acceleration with a shorter first gear and improved fuel economy with the
taller top gears. (Jim, see the Popular Mechanics explanation) Incidentally, the 10 speed will be the

Workplace Discrimination And Affirmative Action
Abstract
Discrimination is an issue that has been debated for hundreds of years. It is a subject that is
continuously researched and relentlessly looking for resolutions to amend the problems that occur.
There are a myriad of types of discrimination but the main focus of this paper is on workplace
discrimination and the effects affirmative action has on it.
Workplace discrimination transpires when an employee suffers from unfavorable or unfair treatment
due to race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other legally protected characteristic
(Fevre, Grainger, and Brewer, 2011). The journal articles examined present different approaches and
views concerning workplace discrimination, unethical activities in the workplace, and affirmative
action effects and perceptions.
Workplace Discrimination and Ethics
An abundant number of studies have been conducted on workplace discrimination. However, a
multitude of results and perceptions regarding the topic are suggested in this research. To understand
how workplace discrimination, unethical treatment, and affirmative action affect those who experience
it vs. those who do not experience it, all forms of discrimination should be studied. This paper
examines Kravitz and Klineberg (2000) research against other workplace discrimination and
affirmative action to propose more research should be conducted to better understand the how
workplace discrimination affects others.

What Causes Obesity Is The Relationship Of Energy Intake...
The most rudimentary explanation for what causes obesity is the relationship of energy intake and
expenditure and its effect on energy balance. If energy intake is greater than energy expenditure,
weight gain will occur. In contrast, energy expenditure in excess of energy intake will result in weight
loss ( Dietz Gortmaker, 2001). However, Obesity is a complex disease that involves interactions
between genetics, regulation of energy balance, and strong environmental influences such as increased
caloric intake and decreased physical activity in today s modern society. The genetic approach both in
animal models and in humans has allowed immense progress in the understanding of body weight
regulation. Monogenic forms of obesity in humans have been characterized and result from mutations
in genes involved in the central pathways of food intake regulation. However, these cases are
extremely rare and generally obesity must be considered as a complex polygenic disease involving
interactions between multiple genes and the environment (Clement Ferre, 2003) Genetics There are
several genetic factors that contribute to an individual s predisposition towards obesity in a common
environment. Several investigators have provided evidence for an association between candidate
genes and obesity related phenotypes. Currently, there are greater than 600 genes, markers and
chromosomal regions linked to obesity related phenotypes (Pérusse et al., 2005). In a large

I. Introduction
As known today, cancer is one of the most lethal diseases in the world. Millions of people died every
year caused by various type of cancer, but the concern is that what does really caused the cancer itself?
Is it because of the lifestyle people have nowadays? Or because of environment that has changed? Or
even sometimes because of the flaw in the replication of DNA? There are lots of probabilities to cause
cancer.
In this section, we will discuss about how does DNA replication could end to cause cancer.

Well, there is a lot of factor leading to cancer. But there are some major factor that have take a big part
in causing cancer to human. Major causes why cancer happened in human is because of consumption
of tobacco and was found in 1964 as the biggest factor that lead to lung cancer by US surgeon (Anand
et al., 2008). Other big factor that proved caused of cancer is a lot of alcohol drinking.
Alcohol consumption is an established risk factor for cancers of the mouth, pharynx, larynx,
esophagus, liver, colorectum, and female breast, and there is some evidence of an association with
pancreatic cancer (The American Cancer Society, 2011).
Radiation risked human to cancer. That comes with the fact that one of the most common cancer is
caused by radiation, it could be because of some common radiation in example UV (ultraviolet) light,
X ray, etc.
Exposure to UV radiation is a major risk for various types of skin cancers including basal cell
carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma (Anand et al., 2008).
Diet also lead people to cancer, consumption of red meat in big amount with specific amount of time
could lead to intestine cancer. Nitrates and nitrites in meat interfere botulinic exotoxin production in
the body (Divisi, Tommaso, Salvemini, Garramone, Crisci, 2006).

Accounting Measures of Corporate Liquidity, leverage and costs of financial distress.

Synopsis:
When the cost of financial distress is high in a firm that firm may maintain a large amount of its total
asset as liquid asset and be careful on taking debt. This journal has talked about the relation on the
financial distress the cost of corporate liquid policy and the leverage policy of the firm. Liquid asset

Firm s investment outlays may depend on its liquidity to some extent. This journal has focused on
finding the link and established a clear relation. Investment expenditure was positively related to firm
s liquid asset holdings for both a three year period of moderate income decrease and a two year period
of very quick income turn down. No single relationship was located for the two year interval.
The marginal rate of risk rises with the amount invested because of different unfavorable outcome.
Additional loans are changed with the rise in marginal risk. This is similar to the rising marginal cost
of output. However, the more amount invested the less is the marginal risk as it implies less danger to
the wealth of creditors and the firms. Therefore, the firm s investment depends hugely on the size of
the firm s asset. A relationship between the firm s investment outlays and liquidity under uncertainty is
consistent with the analysis of the variation of it. But in the event of loss utility of the investor depend
on the net liquidity position as low liquidity position of an investor may force him to liquidation of his
inventories and other current assets.
A quite different line of argument may suggest there is a positive relationship between liquidity and
investment. The firm may act as if it has past pattern of receipts or assets that has allowed it to keep a
low ratio of liquid to capital asset. In such cases firms will invest low

Using Sglt 2 Inhibitors With Insulin Essay
USING SGLT 2 INHIBITORS WITH INSULIN IN TYPE 2 DIABETES: CLINICAL

Mathew John, Deepa Gopinath
Introduction
Diabetes and its complications account for significant healthcare costs in developed countries. The
control of hyperglycemia forms the cornerstone in managing diabetes. United Kingdom Prospective
Diabetes Study (UKPDS) has shown that improving blood sugars can result in reduction in onset of
retinopathy, microalbuminuria and neuropathy. Follow up of the subjects in UKPDS after 10 years
have shown a distinct improvement in outcomes like mortality, microvascular disease and
macrovascular disease in subjects who were intensively controlled. Various classes of oral anti
diabetic agents, insulin and GLP 1 agonists form the armamentarium against hyperglycaemia. Despite
the availability of these agents, the overall control of hyperglycaemia remains suboptimal. Sodium
linked Glucose Co Transporter 2 (SGLT 2) inhibitors form a new class of agents that act on the kidney
by competitively blocking the SGLT 2 channels. These agents are approved by FDA to be used as
monotherapy or in combination with Metformin, Sulphonylurea (SU), Pioglitazone, or insulin. The
ADA practice guidelines have added SGLT 2 inhibitors as the first add on to Metformin along with
other drugs like SU, Dipeptyl Peptidase 4 (DPP4) inhibitors, thiazolidinedione and basal insulin.

How Did Mexican Culture Influence Their Arts During The...
During the time of post revolution in the 1920 s, Mexico underwent an enormous transformation from
a mostly rural society to a largely industrialized and modern society. The various opinions of the
Mexican people and their modernized culture can be put into perspective by the artistic expression of
three famous artist Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros. They began a
movement with wall paintings that focused on the political and social conditions in Mexico during the
1920 s and gave an in depth story of their point of view through their art. This essay will discuss a
moderate overview of the impacts and influences of their art during the 1920 s.
The Mexican Revolution began in 1910 with a political revolt against the tyrannical president Porfirio
Diaz. The civil war was led by a number of charismatic individuals whose personal political agendas
often determined the path of the decade long revolution. Accompanied by a group of intellectual
radicals, political leaders began to discuss a noticeable movement inspired by the revolution. In the

The job interview project opened my eyes to a world of preparation and focus that I never knew existed. In this paper, I prepare a job interview strategy, identifying a few character traits that are the foundation of my being, and then link these traits to memorable life experiences that have had a profound effect upon me and those who I interacted with. The next few sections of the paper entail observations and a critique of a recently conducted mock job interview, and my elevator speech which is hyper linked for reference. I conclude with vital lessons learned throughout the job interview process and project courses of action for a successful outcome from future interviews. Key traits and life experiences that have shaped who I am Spending a fair amount of time deployed in the defense of the United States of America has led me to appreciate all that this country has to offer, and not take the freedoms we enjoy for granted. • 4. Teen Suicide Thesis Kate Wells Kendra Gallos English 3 Honors 21 November 2017 Teen Suicide Prevention: Putting Meaning Back Into the Lives of Young Statistics reveal that in the US approximately...nearly one million people attempt suicide each year ( Suicide Risk Among Abused Children. ). Suicide is not an act of randomness. It is a result of prolonged feelings and/ or events, which push that person to extremes they desperately want out of. Suicide rates are amongst the highest in teens, due to their lack of support systems. During these years many are trying to find out who they are and fit in, thus many get accepted into some people s views, but there are also a good number that get ignored and feel like they do not belong anywhere. Teen suicide can be a result of a home life of abuse or mistreatment, psychological disorders, and lack of social support bullying; however, through the education on the warning signs of suicide, providing more emotional outlets at schools, and creating safer environments the number of annual victims can be decreased. Living in a house full of mistreatment and abuse can eat away at a teenager more than many would like to admit. Abuse (physical, sexual, psychological) has no benefits, instead it causes individuals to see themselves as not enough and that they are not wanted anywhere. Teenagers are already vulnerable to the pressures of high school, and trying to find themselves. In school there are many stressors such as grades, friends, teachers, ... Essay on Robert Nozick´s Happiness and the Experience Machine Robert Nozick s Happiness Many theorist believe that happiness is the only important in people s life, and all that should matter to a person is being happy. The standard of assessing a good life is how much or quantity of happiness it contains. This openness of happiness, its generosity of spirit and width of appreciation, gets warped and constricted by the claim pretending to be its greatest friend that only happiness matters, nothing else. Robert Nozick does not on the side of hedonistic utilitarianism, he gives several examples to show that there are other elements of reality we may strive for, even at the expense of pleasure. Nozick briefly discusses the nature of pleasure, as it is clearly an important element of happiness. There are pleasures of the body and mind, as well as pleasures of the emotion. They are all valued for their felt quality that what they have in common That is what a pleasure is, and is different from something like Equality, which is not valued for good feelings , but pleasure is something valued for its felt qualities. The experience machine is one of Nozick s best known arguments . The experience machine is a thought experiment which posits the existence of a device that can give its user any experience desired. When one placed in an experience machine , it can program any experience, such as traveling to the moon. The experience machine is supposed to allow someone to have all and any of the pleasures in the world. However, Nozick states that even though if such machine exits no one would use it, which shows that there are more important things than pleasure. What Nozick suggests is that we would not use such a machine. Here are some arguments from Nozick. 1) if the only thing that mattered to us was pleasure, then we would plug ourselves into a machine that could any simulate experiences we desired. 2) Even if the machine existed, we would not plug ourselves into it for three reasons:  What we want not just experience them, but actually do certain things  We want to ... The Pros And Cons Of C-Section Births Description Due to cesarean section, it is proven that c section birth causes infants to be at greater risk of developing a host of illnesses such as, asthma, type 1 diabetes, as they progress and grow older; As Australia has one of the highest c section rates in the world with now at 32% of the population having a cesarean birth (s. Indigenous mothers are more likely to experience more long term issues and even perinatal death compared to the 0.7% of non aboriginal and non Torres Strait islander mothers (The Department of Health, 2011). Aboriginal and Torres strait islander mothers find c section birth to be more preferred as it doesn t risk the mother and child, but this is not always the case (Baby Care, 2018). About 1 in 12 women get an infection, such as cellulitis, abdominal abscess, thrush, urinary tract and bladder infection after having a c section birth (D. R. Wilson, 2018). Indigenous mothers are more likely to develop these infections. These infections could be easily being treated by the consumption of antibiotics. Communication between researchers is found to be highly effective, as more and more mothers in indigenous communities and other communities are being more aware and notified about the effects of c section birth to the child and mother. The samples collected back up the researcher s statements and provide the public about how this can be improved. Without communication between researchers, lack of knowledge would increase and so will the rate of c section births in remote communities and private hospital. The notion is a modern one: there were no hyperactive children 50 to 60 years ago. Today, if anything, the term is applied too often and too widely. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) estimates that all teachers have in their classrooms at least one child with ADHD (Simmons, RG. 1993). Actually, hyperactivity is not one particular condition: it is a set of behaviors such as excessive restlessness and short attention span that are quantitatively and qualitatively different from those children of the same sex, mental age, and socioeconomic status (Gutskey, T.R. 1991). Like the Editors say in the introduction to The Ways of Reading, These essays are meant to be challenging. In a 1966 Atlantic article, Dan Wakefield said that the non fiction work of Capote elevated reporting to the level of literature. Although praising the work of Capote, this goes some way in saying that literature is better than journalism. This is evidence for what Capote said his critics felt: Combining literature and journalism is little more than a literary solution for fatigued novelists. (Plimpton, 1967, p. 16) Newfield (1967, p. 20) said that, This new genre defines itself by claiming many of the techniques that were once the unchallenged terrain of the novelist: tension, symbol, cadence, irony, prosody, imagination. Gay Talese s 1966 article for Esquire magazine, Frank Sinatra Has a Cold, was a very influential piece of New Journalism that gave a very detailed portrait of Frank Sinatra, without ever having interviewed him. Talese undertook huge amounts of research, as did many of the New journalists, including Capote with In Cold Blood. Unlike Capote, Talese did not invent facts of characters. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, racial profiling means the discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of targeting individuals for suspicion of crime based on the individual s race, ethnicity, religion or national origin. In other words, racial profiling has its assumptions that particular individuals are more likely to be involved in transgression or unlawful activities based on individual s race or background. Racial profiling does not just exist today; it thrives and mostly propels a brutalizing message and inhuman misconception to citizens of the United States whom they are pre judged by the color of their skin. The primary cause of profiling is racism or race related discrimination. Unfortunately, this unwarranted approach is now commonly used by law enforcement officers, even though it could be both unjust and unconstitutional. So, with Dunbar rising in fame, for his stories about the suffering and disillusionment of the African American experience, he would meet Frederick Douglass, a famous African American lecturer, editor, and leader. They both thought very highly of each other, so the poem written by Dunbar named Douglass was a cry for help from his long dead friend. Dunbar writes, Oh, for thy voice high sounding o er the storm, for thy strong arm to guide the shivering bark, the blast defying power of thy form, to give us comfort through the lonely dark. Dunbar wishes for Douglass to come help his people of this time, to be their loud voice again, to use his strong to guide our shivering souls to a better place, and to be a hero once again. Discuss the differences and similarities of Ugo Foscolo s and Giacomo Leopardi s concept of human existence through the analysis of their more representative works. The centrality of pessimism in both Leopardi s and Foscolo s poetry is clearly due to the influence of Romanticism, the new cultural, artistic and literary movement that was expanding in all Europe during the first decades of XIX century and that introduces an alternative concept to the previous illuminist philosophy, based on the disquietude and the dissatisfaction of human psyche that has to incessantly fight against illusions of reality. The negativism on the concept of human existence is exposed in the poets works: one of the notes in the Lo Zibaldone Dei pensieri , a personal diary full of Leopardi s annotations says: Il dolore o la disperazione che nasce dalle grandi passioni o illusioni o da qualunque sventura della vita non è paragonabile all affogamento che nasce dalla certezza e dal sentimento vivo della nullità di tutte le cose, e dell impossibilità di essere felice in questo mondo, e dalla immensità del vuoto che si sente nell anima ( the pain or the desperation that arises from great passions or illusions or from every kind of misfortune of the life is not comparable to the drowning that comes from the certainty and the strong feeling of everything s nullity and the impossibility to be happy in this world, and from the immense emptiness that we feel in the soul ) This view is ... What Is The Validity Of The Turing Test Alan Turing was a famous British mathematician and computer scientist who was determined to prove that machines at some point (possibly sometime in the future) would be able to surpass humans in intelligence levels. In order to prove this true, he created what became to be known as, The Turing Test. This test was basically to see if a computer could trick a person into believing that it was human. It would be asked a series of questions, which would be compared to responses of the human. It was designed so that one could judge the intelligence level of the computers responses. Turing believed that if a human could not tell the difference between another human and a computer, then it served as proof that a computer is equally intelligent as a human. Due to a large ... It takes it a step further by saying not only can these machines not express its thoughts and/or feelings, but that one can not even be certain that a machine thinks, unless you can be that machine and feel oneself actually thinking. Basically the only way that we could possibly know if the machine has these thoughts or feelings would be if one could be the actual machine itself. Bisson dated June 18, 1982, be admitted to probate without any codicils. Issue: 1. The first issue is whether the trial court erred in denying Greer s motion for summary judgment on the grounds that Mr. Austin s will contest was barred by T.C.A. § 32 4 108 (Supp. 1991). 2. The second issue for review is whether the trial court erred in directing a verdict for the contestant Austin by refusing to allow the 1984 codicil to be submitted to the jury. Holding: The rule for determining a motion for directed verdict requires the trial judge and the reviewing court on appeal to look to all of the evidence, taking the strongest legitimate view of it in favor of the opponent of the motion and allowing all reasonable inferences from it in his favor. The court must discard all countervailing evidence, and if there is then any dispute as to any material determinative evidence or any doubt as to the conclusion to be drawn from the whole evidence, the motion must be denied. • 26. Debt Relief Initiatives in Poor Countries Debt Relief initiative Many governmental and non governmental organizations argued that external constraint like high inherited levels of foreign debt have crippled in the capacity of low income countries to overcome poverty and that concessional lending s are not enough. This lead to the Enhanced Heavily Indebted Poor Country (HIPC) initiative in 1996 in collaboration with world bank to eliminate unsustainable debt in the world s poorest and most heavily indebted countries. A summit meeting in 1999 expanded the spectrum of eligible countries for debt relief with higher and faster reliefs. This came to be known as Enhanced HIPC Initiative. The aim of Enhanced HIPC initiative was to achieve a level of indebtedness that would enable the country to service its debt in a sustainable manner. The program compares the actual level of indebtedness and debt servicing burden to a constant theoretical sustainable level which is predetermined by the large industrial countries to which these debt are owed. Currently, the maximum net present value of sustainable debt to exports is 150 percent (of traditional 200% 250%) or debt to fiscal revenue is 250 percent (of traditional 280%). The enable countries qualify for debt relief in two stages: In the first stage: The debtor s country has to create a satisfactory track record in an IMF or IDA program and demonstrate the capacity to use IMF assistance prudently. For 2017, the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro will share a 10 speed automatic transmission as a result of a collaborative engineering effort between General Motors and the Ford Motor Company. How s that again? In 2013, Detroit s top rivals signed an agreement to jointly develop new 9 and 10 speed automatic transmissions with front and rear wheel drive variants. The collaborative effort means both companies are able to design, engineer, establish, test, corroborate and distribute new transmissions at a faster rate and for a lower cost than they would have on their own. Improved Performance, Better Efficiency The effort has yielded a new 10 speed automatic transmission, one that will find its way into various models over the next few years. That the two competing pony cars will share the same transmission means one less important edge for both manufacturers. Instead, the two companies will have to find other ways to beat each other with such factors as horsepower, steering and handling, and aerodynamics providing key differences. At the same time, buyers of both models will enjoy two important benefits 10 speed transmissions provide better off the line acceleration with a shorter first gear and improved fuel economy with the taller top gears. The journal articles examined present different approaches and views concerning workplace discrimination, unethical activities in the workplace, and affirmative action effects and perceptions. Workplace Discrimination and Ethics An abundant number of studies have been conducted on workplace discrimination. However, a multitude of results and perceptions regarding the topic are suggested in this research. To understand how workplace discrimination, unethical treatment, and affirmative action affect those who experience it vs. those who do not experience it, all forms of discrimination should be studied. This paper examines Kravitz and Klineberg (2000) research against other workplace discrimination and affirmative action to propose more research should be conducted to better understand the how workplace discrimination affects others. • 29. What Causes Obesity Is The Relationship Of Energy Intake... The most rudimentary explanation for what causes obesity is the relationship of energy intake and expenditure and its effect on energy balance. If energy intake is greater than energy expenditure, weight gain will occur. In contrast, energy expenditure in excess of energy intake will result in weight loss ( Dietz Gortmaker, 2001). However, Obesity is a complex disease that involves interactions between genetics, regulation of energy balance, and strong environmental influences such as increased caloric intake and decreased physical activity in today s modern society. The genetic approach both in animal models and in humans has allowed immense progress in the understanding of body weight regulation. Monogenic forms of obesity in humans have been characterized and result from mutations in genes involved in the central pathways of food intake regulation. However, these cases are extremely rare and generally obesity must be considered as a complex polygenic disease involving interactions between multiple genes and the environment (Clement Ferre, 2003) Genetics There are several genetic factors that contribute to an individual s predisposition towards obesity in a common environment. Several investigators have provided evidence for an association between candidate genes and obesity related phenotypes. Currently, there are greater than 600 genes, markers and chromosomal regions linked to obesity related phenotypes (Pérusse et al., 2005). In a large ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This journal has focused on finding the link and established a clear relation. Investment expenditure was positively related to firm s liquid asset holdings for both a three year period of moderate income decrease and a two year period of very quick income turn down. No single relationship was located for the two year interval. The marginal rate of risk rises with the amount invested because of different unfavorable outcome. Additional loans are changed with the rise in marginal risk. This is similar to the rising marginal cost of output. However, the more amount invested the less is the marginal risk as it implies less danger to the wealth of creditors and the firms. Therefore, the firm s investment depends hugely on the size of the firm s asset. A relationship between the firm s investment outlays and liquidity under uncertainty is consistent with the analysis of the variation of it. But in the event of loss utility of the investor depend on the net liquidity position as low liquidity position of an investor may force him to liquidation of his inventories and other current assets. A quite different line of argument may suggest there is a positive relationship between liquidity and investment. Using Sglt 2 Inhibitors With Insulin Essay USING SGLT 2 INHIBITORS WITH INSULIN IN TYPE 2 DIABETES: CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS Mathew John, Deepa Gopinath Introduction Diabetes and its complications account for significant healthcare costs in developed countries. The control of hyperglycemia forms the cornerstone in managing diabetes. United Kingdom Prospective Diabetes Study (UKPDS) has shown that improving blood sugars can result in reduction in onset of retinopathy, microalbuminuria and neuropathy. Follow up of the subjects in UKPDS after 10 years have shown a distinct improvement in outcomes like mortality, microvascular disease and macrovascular disease in subjects who were intensively controlled. Various classes of oral anti diabetic agents, insulin and GLP 1 agonists form the armamentarium against hyperglycaemia. Despite the availability of these agents, the overall control of hyperglycaemia remains suboptimal. Sodium linked Glucose Co Transporter 2 (SGLT 2) inhibitors form a new class of agents that act on the kidney by competitively blocking the SGLT 2 channels. These agents are approved by FDA to be used as monotherapy or in combination with Metformin, Sulphonylurea (SU), Pioglitazone, or insulin. The ADA practice guidelines have added SGLT 2 inhibitors as the first add on to Metformin along with other drugs like SU, Dipeptyl Peptidase 4 (DPP4) inhibitors, thiazolidinedione and basal insulin. During the time of post revolution in the 1920 s, Mexico underwent an enormous transformation from a mostly rural society to a largely industrialized and modern society. The various opinions of the Mexican people and their modernized culture can be put into perspective by the artistic expression of three famous artist Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros.
