Human Relationships In Githa Hariharan
Indian fiction in English has matured itself over the years. It has become more expressive and
experimental, both thematically and stylistically, than ever, and has come to establish itself as an
indigenous branch of world literature. With the passage of time novel in English became recognized as
an effective vehicle of human relationships in Indian society. Novelists since the formative years of
this genre have been exploring through it, human relationships in the complex Indian society. R.K.
Narayan, Mulk Raj Anand, Raja Rao, Anita Desai, Shashi Despande, Arundhti Roy, Kiran Desai,
Jumpha Lahiri, Geeta Mehta, and Githa Hariharan etc., have produced social novels which deal with

Ohio Adverse Possession Laws Case Summary
On January 1, 2008, four lawsuits involving Brad Pitt were filed in Ohio. The first was brought by
Matt Damon against Brad Pitt to acquire quiet title to one acre of Brad s land that Matt had cleared
and built a barn on. Looking into quiet titles and adverse possession laws will determine if Matt can
get title to the land or not. The second case involves Snazzy Jeff, a paparazzo, seeing Maddox, Brad s
son, dropped his Pokémon camera. Snazzy Jeff then came up and took the item hoping to find pictures
to sell on it without informing Brad or Maddox. This may be a case of lost property or theft that needs
to be evaluated. The third case involves Brad suing Jackie Philabaum at the request of his wife. At the
parade, Brad took off his coat and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To acquire a quiet title to the land Matt Damon only needs 21 of those years. According to Ohio law,
the person wanting to obtain title from adverse possession must have possessed the property for 21
years without the permission of the owner, but in clear knowledge of the owner ( Ohio Adverse
Possession Laws ). There are four requirements listed to obtain a quiet title starting with using the land
without permission of the owner. Then they must treat the land as their own, use the land in an
obvious way and for a continuous period of time without sharing with others ( Ohio Adverse
Possession Laws ). Matt Daman easily completes all four of these requirements. He never asked Brad
for permission to clear the land and build a barn on Brad s land, but did. Brad repeatedly visited and
inspected the property in 1986, 1996, and 2002, seeing the barn but never saying anything to Matt.
Matt appears to have also used the land for a continuous period totaling 21 years before requesting
title to the one acre of land. Brad may have a defense if he had talked to Matt at any time about the
property and can prove it, but it will be a hard case to win for him. Matt will win this case for a quiet
title to the one acre of land with his barn on it because of the time that had passed with no objection or
other claims of possession by Brad. Later, with four children to

My Day At School
On Thursday the fourth week of school, I woke up earlier than usual. I set my alarm to vibrate at 8:30
but I instead woke up at 8. Not caring how exhausted, I was from staying up late the night before to
complete an assignment, regretting procrastinating, I decided to start my day early. Being prudent, I
search the weather to figure out what to wear. I prepared myself for the day, setting my clothes on the
bed and placed my shoes out. I took my towel and shower caddy with all my shower essentials out and
hopped in the shower moments later. When I finished washing I put my clothes on and put a ponytail
in my hair. My class start at 9:30 am and I was ready at 9:10 am. Staying at Rosa Alexander Hall I
have to leave before 9:20 because Madison is a 10 minute walk.
Walking downstairs, greeting the RA that was at the front desk, I walked out the front door and into
beautiful weather. The sky was sapphire blue and the sun was shining so bright it might blind your
eyes if you look directly at it. This is the first good weather we had since the rain we have been having
for these few days. Walking to class, just pass the library, I see one of my friends and we decide to
walk with each other because our class is in the same building. Reaching the building my friend and
us go our separate ways, her staying on the first floor and me heading upstairs.
My first class is English 101 with Professor Camp. We went over the vocabulary words and learned
that we have a quiz on Tuesday. Then we went over one of Maya Angulo s stories to have an idea of
what our observation paper looks like. Mr. Camp ended class around 11:15 so I just walked downstairs
to my other class. I was so early that the class that uses the classroom before us was still there.
My teacher entered class looking like she was trying to put her life together. Gathering the materials
she will be needing for the lesson. She made a couple of announcements and went along teaching. The
class was long and dreadful. I wanted to bring my bed in class to fall asleep. It felt like she has been
talking forever until I checked the time and saw only 25 minutes passed I realized this was going to be
a long class. Class ended and I hurried out of class not wanting to stay any

Classroom Reflection Analysis
For the final part of the project, me and the other students, plus the teachers and aides met in the
classroom on Monday morning to reflect on the project. During the final round table teachers
expressed some concern with communication. I think they felt like it was difficult to communicate
with us students since they did not have any contact information from us. A great suggestion was
made during the meeting to make a google document that would include all of our contact information
as well as updates and information about the all the children who the teachers were concerned about. I
feel like this would be beneficial for both the students and the teachers in order to contact each other
more easily and to get updates on the children efficiently. During the course of the semester, I felt like
the students and the teachers were not on the same page due to the issues of contacting each other. For
instance, when me and partner would get to the preschool we sometimes would be unable to fully
observe or coach during our time due to other activities happening in the classroom. For example, one
time me and my partner came and an employee from the public library was there for her weekly
reading activity. I felt a little surprised by this novel situation, but my partner and I would try and
adjust our plan to make it feasible to the new situation. Another issue the teachers had was
determining what time works best for us students to come in and observe or coach. Our teacher Jihan
did not limit us too much on our times, except when they were on field trips. Other teachers noted that
they had specific times for students to come in, and they felt overwhelmed by the amount of students.
They described the situations to be somewhat difficult to discuss the children they were concerned
about or how the strategies were working for them. Hearing the teachers talk about when would be the
best time for students to come in reminded me that they have a lot to take into consideration when
planning. For instance, they need to take into account which and how many children will be in their
classroom since some arrive late and some leave early. They need to take into account how much help
they will need to prepare or clean up an

Terrorism Has Plagued The World
While terrorism has plagued the world through many forms since the age of time, it wasn t until the
hijacking of 1972 that caused airports both domestically and internationally to establish airport
security. From one of the first major terrorist attacks on an aircraft in 1955 to the multiple attacks
throughout the 1960s and 70s, for the first time airports were introduced to armed security guards,
metal detectors, and explosive detection canines. Over the next two and half decades, airports also saw
the use of U.S. Marshall s aboard flights, and the installations of X Ray machines for both carry on
and checked luggage. While the measures in place did manage to assist in the arrest of thousands and
prevented a number of attacks from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Airport security has gone through drastic changes since the 2001 World Trade Center terrorist attack
to insure the safety of passengers traveling domestically and abroad with the creation of the
Transportation Security Administration, updated screening machines, policy and procedures, and
vigorous pat down searches.
Weeks away from the thirteenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World
Trade Center towers, airports across the world are still continuing to operate with higher security
levels with tighter security measures as the threat to jetliners remains constant. These changes have
not been more apparent than in the United States. With the creation of the TSA in November 2001,
one of their first changes to travel policy was for passengers to show up at least two hours early to
ensure there was enough time for the newly reformed security measures. While carry on luggage was
sent through an x ray machine and passengers through metal detectors, passengers and their luggage
were randomly selected by security personnel for additional screening that included a physical search
of the passengers carry on luggage. By September 2002, the TSA had officially assumed responsibility
throughout all domestic airports

The Diagnosis Of Cancer, Pulmonary Tuberculosis, And Hiv Aids
The diagnosis is one of the most important factors which influence the outcome of diseases but still it
is ignored on a large scale by people. In cases of chronic diseases such as cancer, HIV AIDS, and
tuberculosis, the problem of late diagnosis is severe which causes high number of casualties. The
physical symptoms may take time to appear in some cases of cancer. When a person starts to notice
the symptoms, the disease is already in a late stage. In India, 70 percent of cancer patients consult the
doctor at the terminal stage, according to doctors. Thus, late diagnosis of diseases is a serious concern
globally and rigorous research is being done to invent innovative techniques to tackle this problem. In
this study, the cases of breast ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A cancer tumor often produces a specific protein in the blood that serves as a marker for the cancer.
Circulating tumor cells are cells that break off from the cancer and move into the blood stream.
Protein markers and circulating tumor cells can be measured with simple blood tests. This method is
not specific in nature as one marker may be common for multiple types of cancer. Hence, other tests
are performed to confirm the diagnosis of breast cancer.
For example, presence of CEA (carcinoembryonic antigen) marker is associated with colon, lung, and
liver cancer. It also suggests that breast cancer has travelled to other parts of body. iii) Breast MRI:
MRI, or magnetic resonance imaging, is a technology that uses magnets and radio waves to produce
detailed cross sectional images of the inside of the body. Breast MRI has a number of different uses
for breast cancer, including: screening high risk women (women known to be at higher than average
risk for breast cancer, either because of a strong family history or a gene abnormality), and gathering
more information about an area of suspicion found on a mammogram or ultrasound, monitoring for
recurrence after treatment. iv) FISH Test: Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) is a test that
maps the genetic material in a person s cells. This test can be used to visualize specific genes or
portions of genes. FISH testing is done on breast cancer tissue removed during biopsy to

Do Animals Have Rights...a Philosophical View
Do Animals Have Rights? Should animals be harmed to benefit mankind? This pressing question has
been around for at least the past two centuries. During the early nineteenth century, animal
experiments emerged as an important method of science and, in fact, marked the birth of experimental
physiology and neuroscience as we currently know it. There were, however, guidelines that existed
even back then which restricted the conditions of experimentation. These early rules protected the
animals, in the sense that all procedures performed were done so with as little pain as possible and
solely to investigate new truths. Adopting the animals perspectives, they would probably not agree
that these types of regulations were much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many viewpoints concerning this issue that need to be dealt with in order to fully grasp the
mindset of those so deeply involved in the struggle to determine what, if any, rights that animals
possess. Tom Regan, a professor of philosophy at North Carolina State University and one of the
leading proponents of this theory, claims that animals have rights – the right to be treated in a certain
way. Regan claims that animals have preferences, goals, and most importantly, mental states that enter
into the explanation of their behavior. In his words, animals are subjects of a life just like humans and
each subject of life contains inherent value . What Regan means by this is that by performing
experiments on animals, you are reducing them to mere tools and violating their basic rights. He
justifies his theory by using an example containing the retarded and insane. He says that if these types
of persons are allowed moral rights, despite their inability to think rationally, then all mammals should
have moral rights. Also, he states that discriminating on the basis of species is really fundamentally
just the same moral mistake as discrimination on the basis of race or sex. Discriminating on these
terms is morally irrelevant and fails to accord equal consideration, states Regan. Another theory that is
against cruelty to animals in such

Our study shows that EU deregulation altered the five competitive forces in European airline industry
and in turn this fostered entrepreneurship and innovation, as a reaction of firms to adapt to the change
in their context. The reaction of Ryanair and SAS through entrepreneurial and innovative behaviour
was different due to the differences in their business model. We argue that the removal of barriers to
new entrants and the increased rivalry between firms were the main forces that fostered
entrepreneurship and innovation. We predict that if further EU deregulation comes (as it is the trend)
this will generate more opportunities to entrepreneurship and innovation like it generated in the past.

Iran And The Iranian Nuclear Weapons Program
The summer of 2015 marked a significant event in history the five permanent members of the United
Nations Security Council, Germany, and Iran were able to come to an agreement about restricting Iran
s nuclear programs. The capability of Iran to pursue a nuclear weapon scared the international
community, and this deal brought some peace to the political scene. For Iran, a nuclear weapon
represented legitimacy and leverage over the major powers of the world, so it is interesting that Iran
willingly blocked its avenue to achieve this bargaining chip. Nonetheless, there are ongoing security
concerns about a nuclear Iran and its methods of power projection, so it becomes necessary to analyze
the success of the Iranian nuclear deal and current ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In return, the United States and other nations agreed to lift some sanctions on Iran, unfreeze its assets,
and allow Iran to enter the international oil market. On January 16, 2016, the International Atomic
Energy Agency officially declared, Iran has curbed its nuclear program enough to begin receiving
relief on sanctions (Kennedy 2016). This statement alone demonstrates that the nuclear deal reduced
the risk of a nuclear Iran. The International Atomic Energy Agency has historically expressed great
concerns about Iran s overt and clandestine nuclear operations. The nuclear deal with Iran granted the
International Atomic Energy Agency to have the ability to do strict inspections on Iran, which Iran has
avoided in the past, so the declaration of Iran s fulfillment of international standards shows the
efficacy and the durability of the agreement.
The major critics of the nuclear deal cite Iran s track record of long term deviation from previous
agreements and resolutions and argue Iran will renege on its promises. This argument is legitimate
because Iran has numerous violations across decades. For example, from about the mid 1980s to 2003,
Iran violated several sections of the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement. Iran failed to report that it
had purchased natural uranium from China in 1991, failed to report that it had used 1.9 kg of the
imported UF6 to test P1 centrifuges at the Kalaye Electric Company centrifuge workshop in 1999 and
2002, and worst of all,

Black Males Able To Vote Essay
Ever since the first African Americans came to Jamestown in 1619, getting along has never been easy.
Even though there was 200 years of slavery until the prevail of the civil war and the abolition of
slavery, most people forget that some African Americans were free during that time, but how free were
they? Free African Americans in the Northern states were free, but had no rights based on the voting
chart, Charles Mackay s excerpt, and Charles Andrews excerpt. Out of the three regions in the North,
black males could only vote in one of them. Mackay recognizes their freedom , but denies African
Americans of their rights. Finally, Andrews who was the top of his class explains how there s no place
for his talent. Free African Americans may have had freedom, but not the freedom that white males
had, and certainly not the rights they needed to fully function in society. In the voting chart, it shows if
black males could vote or do jury duty in each state in the North in 1860. The data it shows says that
in the Mid Atlantic and Midwest, most black males were either not permitted or were restricted to
vote. Only in New England could black male suffrage have any chance, even if it s only a little. Even
when being free, black males could only vote in five states, and do jury duty in one. They might have

Greece And Its Relationship With The Eurozone
Greece and its relationship with the Eurozone
Victor Kasik
International Economics
This paper will provide a brief history of Greece and reviews the modern day problems that may force
Greece out of the Eurozone. Indeed, history is being made on a daily basis as the prospect of a Greek
exit would steer both the nation and the Eurozone into uncharted territory. This is a cautionary tale
about economic and political unification, the advantages and disadvantages of giving up sovereign
rights to a common cause, and the impact of cultural differences in trying to solve mutual problems.

With the collapse of the junta the nation returned to its democratic roots and Greece became a
Parliamentary Republic.
In the years following WWII, Greece began to identify itself more as a Western European nation than
as a Balkan state. The economic integration of the European states began in 1951 with the creation of
the European Coal and Steel Community between Germany and France. This agreement helped to
bury the hatchet between these two former enemies, and served as a blueprint going forward in
lowering trade barriers, implementing common tariffs on imports from outside nations and increasing
cooperation among European countries. These efforts resulted in the establishment of the European
Economic Community in 1957. As old hostilities faded, Europe began to see itself more as a cohesive
unit of interrelated economic and political systems and provided a united front against the economic
power of the United States on one side, and the threat of communism on the other side.
For example, France and Germany, once bitter enemies, made the decision to link their currencies in
response to what they considered to be the opportunistic economic policies of the United States. By
doing this, it hastened the collapse of the Bretton Woods agreement and allowed European countries to
float their currencies. This also allowed countries to

India s Ban On Tobacco Advertising
India in 2001 proposed a ban on tobacco advertisement in an effort to curb tobacco use with
adolescents. It was met with sharp criticism from the tobacco industry. However, some saw it as a
great move by the government in looking after the welfare of its citizens. I hope to explore in the
essay each side s voice as well as deal with the myriad of issues the government faced upon the bans
proposal. Lastly I will give my opinion on what position the government should take. One the main
arguments for this proposed ban was that the tobacco industry was targeting children. In fact citing an
internal documents from the tobacco industry that referred to 14 to 24 year olds as their targets
(Reynold, 2010). Recognizing this report for India was extremely important. Due to the increased
health problems of smoking by targeting a younger age bracket they would effectively increase the
weight the government had to carry when it comes to providing health care for its citizens. The
government also had in its favor the fact that in all but one case smoking use by young people had
decreased when these bans where put in effect. The government s argument for banning tobacco ads
can be summed up pretty simply. They were trying to watching out for the safety of their citizens and
were working toward the betterment of India. The government had the advantage of being able to take
the moral high road and being able to paint the tobacco industry as the devil . The Nays in this case

Importance Of Controversy In Professional Sports
Lots of people and families watch football every weekend, and it is one of the most popular sports in
the United States, but could some team names be racist and derogatory. Teams such as the Redskins
should be required by the NFL to change their name because of several reasons. First off, lots of
people all over the U.S. think the term Redskin is rude, and should be changed. Second, there would
be some benefits to changing the name, and third being that the name is offensive and derogatory to
Native Americans.
There has been a lot of controversy over the Washington Redskins name lately. Some people believe
the Redskins name is derogatory to Native Americans, and even say it is a racial slur. Fifty United
states senators out of one hundred have argued that the name should be changed. This shows how big
of a deal this dispute over the Redskins team has become. Also Tom Cole and Betty McCollum, part
of the congressional Native American caucus (CNAC), and 8 other Congress members even sent a
letter to the NFL telling them to change the football teams name. Therefore, some people believe,
including people in government positions, that changing Washington s football team name is a good

My Dreams Of The American Dream
The wide field, brimmed primarily with yellow, sprouting, lush, wild flowers and tall green grass,
swayed gently in the crisp breeze. Deep within an abundance of towering pine trees, where the
bluebirds chirped and the frogs croaked, babbled a crooked creek. The air was filled with the smell of
moist bark and sweet blossoms, the sound of bees buzzing, and the feeling of serenity. I had lived in
my very own oasis where all of my childhood dreams were born. I dreamed of all my firsts , my first
kiss, my first love, my first high school dance, my first varsity soccer game in the stadium under the
lights, my first day as a college student in a foreign city, my first paycheck as an employee, and
countless more. My siblings and I staged and acted out various versions of the perfect little family
with the house located in the countryside surrounded by the white picket fence to complete the
stereotypical American Dream. My imagination was sparked by this magical sanctuary where I led my
siblings in the pursuit of our hopes and dreams for a future that now in retrospect seemed untouchable.
Where every day brought another game and every hour brought another challenge, I was the queen
and I could achieve anything and conquer the world. I was unbeatable, the strongest, the fastest and
the bravest. On certain days our old oak tree would transform into a mighty, pirate ship reeking of
saltwater and seaweed, sailing the Indian Ocean and I would lead us to find buried treasures fighting

family together. They all learned to work together and support each other no matter the circumstances.
*When a family faces a difficult situation it brings them together not tear them apart.*
The Walls children had a good connection, although Maureen was mostly the one out of the four
children to be selfish and would look out for only herself, not her siblings. There was one scene in The
Glass Castle where Jeannette was in bed sleeping and a man was touching her inappropriately. She got
her younger brother Brian to help her chase down the man as Jeannette says, Dad was out that night,
and when Mom slept she was dead to the world, so Brian and I ran after the man ourselves (Walls
103). Since she didn t have anyone else to help her chase down the man she asked Brian. This shows
that they stood together because nobody else was going to help catch the man. Although, further in the
book her father Rex does help her younger brother Brian go pervert hunting but they do not find the
man. Instead of sleeping with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Trials of Oz
Court as Theatre
In the first case, Robertson is not principally involved as counsel for the Oz editors in their obscenity
trial. He is just a stage hand for the defence . We note the metaphor: a stage hand is someone who
assists at a theatrical production. Robertson frequently recurs to the idea of the court as a theatre and
the players in the justice game as actors:
Like the squalor behind the splendour of the stage at Convent Garden [the great
London opera house], so the solemn ritual of an Old Bailey trial disguised the fact that it was
produced in greasepaint and chaos. The solicitors clerks who stage managed the shows would meet to
rehearse the cast of the day around the formica tables of the Rex Café ... Show more content on

That the judge is unaware that Hair is a musical is supposed to suggest how out of touch he is with
reality.
The cumulative effect of this perspective is that if the judge is hard on the allegedly obscene editors
and misrepresents their defence to the jurors, this would only be what you would expect of such a
second rate individual. Robertson s presentation, based on truth, is heavily influenced by bias and
opinion against the judge and, thereby, in favour of the defendants. The eventual verdict of guilty is
seen to be inevitable. The editors were sent to prison for psychiatric examination.
Reason and Sanity
The voices of reason and sanity , writes Robertson, were outraged and an appeal lodged. First, bail
was granted by Justice Griffiths, whose decision was made on the advice of his daughter, a young
blonde in a denim jacket and jeans . The appeal before the Lord Chief Justice succeeded after he was
persuaded that Oz paled in comparison, in terms of obscenity, with numerous other publications freely
available.
Although Oz died from an overdose of publicity , Robertson makes the telling point that the usual
ironic effect of obscenity trials is to heighten public interest in the book or artwork examined.
The principal representation of truth in The Trials of Oz is Robertson s detailed presentation of the
initial courtroom battle, including lengthy

Clean Technology For Air Pollution Reduction And...
Abstract Cleaner Production (CP) strategies are fundamentally concerned with operations,
environmental sustainability and maximization of waste reduction, recycling, and reuse. This research
has the purpose to identify the use of resources and sources of pollution in a cleaning equipments
manufacturing and testing factory in order to apply the principles of clean technology for air pollution
reduction and standardization of waste water. The research focuses on the assessment implemented by
Clean Technology (CT) to inquire into the cause of air pollution and wastewater. The main application
of clean technology is to minimize air pollution in the welding area (production area), and to develop
a better system for wastewater treatment. Installation of local exhaust ventilation with a proper design
can prevent the emission of welding fumes to the atmosphere and implementation of a treatment plant
will help for the reuse of water. Both can give the company a better environment friendly and working
atmosphere. A case study is carried out in a cleaning equipment manufacturing company.
Key words: cleaner production, welding fume management, waste water management

The Novel American Pastoral By Philip Roth
A novelist incorporates three crucial elements when writing a novel. The first element is the ability for
the author to draw from his or her own experiences. A novelist will paint an issue, usually political or
social, on the canvas of the pages in the book. He or she draw from experiences, what they remember
from the event taking place, locations, dates, and use a splash of fiction to blend the perfect color for
the novel. The author will mainly stick to the color coated facts to give the reader an authentic feel for
the story, but gracefully integrates fiction to in essence portray the spin to the truth they desire. A
novel is also driven by the desire to understand others, often in a sympathetic light. And last, but not

Roth uses Nathan to reincarnate the protagonist in the novel, Seymour
Swede Levov, as Swede s life is retold through the accounts of Zuckerman.
The story of Swede s life in the novel is translucent. It is only semi clear in nature as the narrator
gathers the preponderance of information second hand through the tales from characters that knew
Swede. Much of the minutiae of Swede s life were a reconstruction of the character through the
imagination of how it would have occurred in Zuckerman s head.
Nathan Zuckerman had an indescribable fascination for Swede from the very conception of the novel.
He was his hero, idol, and a hometown legend. Nathan grew up in the Jewish community with Swede
in Newark, New Jersey. Swede was someone to look up to for Nathan and many others. He was
referred to as Swede because even though he was Jewish, he was graced with superior athletic ability
and physical attributes, being tall, with blonde hair and blue eyes. The Unjewish Jew. He escaped the
bind of the Jewish community with these attributes, and was admired by Nathan for it. Nathan had
more exposure to his hero through befriending his brother, Jerry Levov. Jerry was radically different
than the Swede as Nathan recounts. He had a fiery side, unlike his cool, calm, and collected brother.
Nathan was one if not the only friend to Jerry in high school. I would have not otherwise have played

Personality Disorders Essay
Psychologists have identified ten different types of personality disorders and categorized into three
different clusters. In the beginning, the diagnostic testing for schizotypal was not very reliable,
because the symptoms ranged from mild to severe, and would vary to the severity of the symptoms.
Due to research, psychologists have discovered the various causes that trigger this disorder. With the
new age, there has been some new advancement made toward helping and treating patients with
schizotypal. It does not affect just the patient but takes a big toll on society.
According to the DSM IV (2000), schizotypal personality disorder occurs more often in males than in
females and over three percent of the general population. The disorder ... Show more content on

Schizotypal falls in the Cluster A category that is considered paranoid personality disorders.
According to Bjornlund (2011), ten to twenty years ago mental health professional started treating
patients for personality disorders, since it is harder to diagnose and treat. Each disorder had to be
approached differently according to a precise diagnosis. Health professionals used questionnaires and
interviews to diagnosis patients; however, often the results were incorrectly diagnosis. Some patients
do not get early treatment until the symptoms interfere with daily life or a relative encourages them to.
Some may seek treatment after court order, suicide attempt, anxiety, depression, or substance abuse.
Sometimes a precise diagnosis happens after being institutionalized or hospitalize for a long period of
time. Around the mid 1970 s, DSM emphasized an increasing reliability in diagnosis of schizotypal.
There are several different symptoms and characteristics that are present with schizotypal personality
disorder. According Bjounlund (2011), the symptoms may be mild in one specific area of the patient s
life or extremely severe that the patience cannot function in any part of life. Symptoms can range from
peculiar dress to perceptual alterations. The symptoms affect not just the patience but also family and
friends attributed to stress. Some patients diagnosed with schizotypal exhibit anxious behavior. The

2.1.3 Options
There are two kinds of options in the market, European options and American options. The most
common traded one is American options which can be exercised before maturity in the market. Call
options provide the holders the right to buy the underlying assets at an exercise price while put options

Hedgers needs to pay a direct premium when the options open in order to compensate for the
speculators. In this case, hedgers have a right to choose whether they would like to exercise the

2.1.4 Swaps
Swap is an agreement that investors exchange cash flows at a specific time in the future. Generally,
both parties believe their exchanges are the same amount of cash flows. The most common swaps are
interest rate swap and currency swap. The transaction needs a dealer to realise and dealers get the
profits from transaction cost and the bid ask spread of the cash flows.
Take interest rate swap as an example, the hedgers may wish to have a certain fixed interest payment
for their loans. By contrast, the speculators are more willing to take a floating interest payment either
they have the same amount of loan or not. The dealer combine these two counterparties together and
create the swap for the exchange of fixed interest rate and floating interest rate (Simons Horward,
2003). To the interest payment data, the hedger pays the fixed interests to the speculator and received
the floating interests according to the dealer. Then they pay the floating interests to the cash market. In
this case, they only pay the fixed interest rate as agreed before and eliminate the risk of interest rate
uncertainty. For the speculators, they pay the floating interests and receive the fixed interests. If the
floating interest rate is greater than the fixed one, then they suffer a loss, otherwise they get the profits.
Generally, individuals and non banking institutions are able to be the dealer which may cause default

Human Trafficking And Human Rights Violations
Human trafficking is one of today s egregious human rights violations. Traffickers focus on the most
vulnerable members of society, preying mostly on women, and children, yet men are also trafficked in
high numbers. Trafficking of a person refers to the, illegal trade of a human being for sexual
exploitation or forced labor through abduction, force, threat, or fraud (UNOC 2015). Human
trafficking can come in many forms such as, sex exploitation, forced labour, as well as forced donor
ship. The truth about human trafficking is very much misunderstood in today s culture. Many victims
of human trafficking consent to leaving their home country to enter into a world filled with hope and
promise, only to find themselves in equally bad, if not worse living conditions. Human trafficking has
been increasing in countries all over the globe especially Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand.
There is a misunderstanding that this global issue only happens in third world countries, but civilized
countries are involved as well. In the United States over the past several years, human trafficking has
become a rapidly growing problem specifically in three cities in California: Los Angeles, San Diego,
and San Fransisco.
Sex Exploitation: Thailand Thailand is one of the major destinations, and transit countries for

The Pittsburgh Pirates, a MLB baseball team playing in PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, offers

The Knight And His Squire
Very early the next morning, the knight and his squire set out on their travels. They stole silently away
from the village without bidding good by to any one; and they made such haste that at sunrise they felt
themselves quite safe from pursuit.
Don Quixote, riding in full armor astride of gaunt Rozinante, felt that he was indeed the most valorous
knight in the world; and no doubt he was a formidable sight. As for Sancho Panza, he rode like a
patriarch, with his knapsack on one side of him and a leather bottle on the other, his feet almost
dragging on the ground. His mind was full of thoughts about that island of which he hoped to be the
governor.
The sun rose high above the hills. The two travelers jogged onward across the plains of Montiel. Both
were silent, for both had high purposes in view.
At length, Sancho Panza spoke: I beseech you, Sir Knight errant, be sure to remember the island you
promised me. I dare say I shall make out to govern it, let it be ever so big.
Don Quixote answered with becoming dignity: Friend Sancho, you must know that it has always been
the custom of knights errant to conquer islands and put their squires over them as governors. Now it is
my intention to keep up that good custom.
You are indeed a rare master, said Sancho Panza.
Well, I am thinking I might even improve upon that good custom, said Don Quixote. What if I should
conquer three or four islands and set you up as master of them all?
You could do nothing that would

Doublespeak In English Language
Today s world is rife with inaccurate use of the English language. Some, like George Orwell in
Politics and the English Language, may even argue that the English language is on the decline. In The
World of Doublespeak, Lutz claims that doublespeak is a major contributing factor to the decline of
the English language as it limits our ability to think crucially. Ultimately, doublespeak is a dangerous
phenomenon, and each form of doublespeak comes with its own danger. Doublespeak is language that
is not technically a lie but is not the full truth either. As described by Lutz, Doublespeak is language
that pretends to communicate but really doesn t (347). Doublespeak is the incongruity between what is

Lutz defines jargon as the specialized language of a trade, profession, or similar group (349). This is
necessary for professionals to be able to communicate effectively with people of the same profession.
On the other hand, jargon can be used pretentiously, making simple concepts appear more complex
than they need to be in order to impress an audience. Even something as simple as smelling can be
turned into medical sounding nonsense organoleptic analysis (Lutz, 349). When professionals use this
language around people that would not be expected to know what they mean, it is purposely
confusing. Consequently, this causes people to overlook important details because they cannot
comprehend them. Thirdly, gobbledygook is a matter of piling on words, of overwhelming the
audience with words (Lutz, 350). This makes people seem cultured and reputable. It sounds
impressive as a speech, but then makes no sense when it is fully analyzed as a text. People who speak
like this ultimately come across as knowing nothing about what they are saying. This was especially
prevalent in NASA s shuttle program, which ultimately led to the Challenger disaster in 1986.
Gobbledygook is dangerous because people do not want to admit that they cannot comprehend the
text, so they just go along with whatever is said to protect their pride. Finally, inflated language is used
to give an air of importance to people, situations, or

American Politics Vs. The Netflix Series House Of Cards
Provisional Title
A Case Study on American politics portrayed in House of Cards and its correlation to the current
political climate
1 Introduction
The American Netflix series House of Cards is a political drama that follows Frank Underwood
(Kevin Spacey) rising through the ranks from Democratic Majority Whip in the House of
Representatives to Vice President and later President of the United States by achieving his political
power through manipulation and ruthless pragmatism with the aid of his wife Claire Underwood
(Robin Wright).
Along with its fictional and hyperbolic representation of Washington DC and its controversial political
visions, House of Cards takes on various current real life debates of American politics in a satirical
and often cynical way.
1.1 The research problem
This case study will examine American politics portrayed in the Netflix series House of Cards to find
out how the depicted political themes and the use of satire relate to the current political environment in
the United States in order to find similarities to real world politics and determine what is fact and what
is fiction in the series.
The cross sectional research that will be undertaken will employ the use of a qualitative research
design. The first phase of data collection will examine the use of political satire and analyse the
various political themes portrayed in the series House of Cards. Semi structured expert interviews will
focus in the second phase on relating the themes and

Explain Why Video Sports Should Be Considered Sports
Should Video Games Be Considered Sports?
As time moves on, things we do physically have slowly made its way to becoming electronic, such as
e mail, and researching papers. Is this also the case for sports? E Sports are electronic sports, which
are video games that are play at a professional level, for games such as StarCraft, League of Legends,
DoTA 2, and etcetera. While the consensus of whether they are sports or not is mixed, I believe that
they are not.
The definition of a sport is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or
team competes against another team or other individuals for entertainment. While E Sports cover the
latter half of the definition, it leaves out the physical exertion of real sports. Despite that being the
case, many others consider them sports. They even have their own page on the ESPN website. ...

League of Legends, the world s most popular MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) has two teams
of five playing against each other to destroy their opponent s base. Doing so requires great
communication and knowledge of the game, something that is required in traditional sports as well.
The process to join a professional team for League of Legends is similar to other sports as well.
Sometimes, first, the player has to perform at a certain level to be found by a scout. Then, they have to
try out amongst other players, then compete in a smaller tournament to get a spot in the big leagues.
Other times, some pro teams only require a series of tryouts for the position they want to play in the
game.
While E Sports do meet some of the requirements of being a sport, I believe that instead of being a
sport, they are just competitions. Even though they have the team and skill aspect of a sport, they still
lack the physical exertion of a real sport. Maybe someday video games will reach the true definition of
a sport, but that day is not

2. Why a Cyber Attack?
Cyber warfare requires intellect not military might and a country does not have to be a military
superpower to wage a cyber attack. Cyber attack tracks are much easier to cover and are easily
attributable to another entity. While cyber attacks are only recently been declared by our military and
political leadership as acts of war, compared to an actual physical military attack on another country
life can go on as usual for most of the citizens on both sides of the conflict without the slightest idea
that their country is at war. It does not cost billions of dollars to run or manage and is hardly a long
term commitment of hundreds of thousands of troops and the logistics to support them and their
equipment at the front lines. In case of Iran, a cyber attack was the most viable option available to
global powers because the Iranian regime did not hesitate to make threats against the United States
and Israel should it have been attacked militarily to make it stop trying to produce nuclear

thereby makes it his property. [6] Having once mixed his labor with something and made it his own,
others are hence excluded from all ownership.
But Locke asks: Was it a robbery thus to assume to himself what belonged to all in common? [7] For,
if all is held in common, then surely such private appropriation would require the explicit consent of
each and every owner before it is to be a legitimate action. However, Locke does not believe so, [i]f
such a consent as that was necessary, man had starved, not withstanding the plenty God had given

Gender Imbalance Of Computer Science
Gender Imbalance in Computer Science
Introduction
In past many generations, men and women had distinct roles. In ancient times, the stereotype of a
woman was working as a housewife, taking care of children and doing housekeeping jobs, while man
were responsible for hunting or farming. As human civilization goes on, woman are no longer
restricted in household routines and have been widely accepted as an indispensable source of labor
force in a variety of occupations. However disparity of career preference between male and female are
fairly pronounced, particular in computer science. An undeniable fact is that employees of tech
companies that are typically related to computer science in Silicon Valley are overwhelming male. 17
percent of Google tech workers are women, according to the diversity data released by Google itself
(Diversity at Google, 2014). In 2014, female tech workers make up 15 percent of Facebook s
workforce (Constine, 2014). Also in 2014, Yahoo reports ratio of female technical workers is 15
percent and Twitter reports only 10 percent of technical workforce is female (CNNMoney, 2014).
According to an evaluation published in 2014 by Anita Borg Institute for women and technology,
average ratio for female workers in bay area is approximate 20 percent (Weise, 2014). We can trace
the gender imbalance in workplace back to the shortage of female computer science students in
college. It is not a new topic that women are scarce in science and engineering

Everything is made from scratch and served up by native Wichitan Chef Patrick, who spent time in
Denver, California and Cincinnati before coming home to open his restaurant. Doo Dah Diner is open

  • 3. Ohio Adverse Possession Laws Case Summary On January 1, 2008, four lawsuits involving Brad Pitt were filed in Ohio. The first was brought by Matt Damon against Brad Pitt to acquire quiet title to one acre of Brad s land that Matt had cleared and built a barn on. Looking into quiet titles and adverse possession laws will determine if Matt can get title to the land or not. The second case involves Snazzy Jeff, a paparazzo, seeing Maddox, Brad s son, dropped his Pokémon camera. Snazzy Jeff then came up and took the item hoping to find pictures to sell on it without informing Brad or Maddox. This may be a case of lost property or theft that needs to be evaluated. The third case involves Brad suing Jackie Philabaum at the request of his wife. At the parade, Brad took off his coat and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To acquire a quiet title to the land Matt Damon only needs 21 of those years. According to Ohio law, the person wanting to obtain title from adverse possession must have possessed the property for 21 years without the permission of the owner, but in clear knowledge of the owner ( Ohio Adverse Possession Laws ). There are four requirements listed to obtain a quiet title starting with using the land without permission of the owner. Then they must treat the land as their own, use the land in an obvious way and for a continuous period of time without sharing with others ( Ohio Adverse Possession Laws ). Matt Daman easily completes all four of these requirements. He never asked Brad for permission to clear the land and build a barn on Brad s land, but did. Brad repeatedly visited and inspected the property in 1986, 1996, and 2002, seeing the barn but never saying anything to Matt. Matt appears to have also used the land for a continuous period totaling 21 years before requesting title to the one acre of land. Brad may have a defense if he had talked to Matt at any time about the property and can prove it, but it will be a hard case to win for him. Matt will win this case for a quiet title to the one acre of land with his barn on it because of the time that had passed with no objection or other claims of possession by Brad. Later, with four children to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. My Day At School On Thursday the fourth week of school, I woke up earlier than usual. I set my alarm to vibrate at 8:30 but I instead woke up at 8. Not caring how exhausted, I was from staying up late the night before to complete an assignment, regretting procrastinating, I decided to start my day early. Being prudent, I search the weather to figure out what to wear. I prepared myself for the day, setting my clothes on the bed and placed my shoes out. I took my towel and shower caddy with all my shower essentials out and hopped in the shower moments later. When I finished washing I put my clothes on and put a ponytail in my hair. My class start at 9:30 am and I was ready at 9:10 am. Staying at Rosa Alexander Hall I have to leave before 9:20 because Madison is a 10 minute walk. Walking downstairs, greeting the RA that was at the front desk, I walked out the front door and into beautiful weather. The sky was sapphire blue and the sun was shining so bright it might blind your eyes if you look directly at it. This is the first good weather we had since the rain we have been having for these few days. Walking to class, just pass the library, I see one of my friends and we decide to walk with each other because our class is in the same building. Reaching the building my friend and us go our separate ways, her staying on the first floor and me heading upstairs. My first class is English 101 with Professor Camp. We went over the vocabulary words and learned that we have a quiz on Tuesday. Then we went over one of Maya Angulo s stories to have an idea of what our observation paper looks like. Mr. Camp ended class around 11:15 so I just walked downstairs to my other class. I was so early that the class that uses the classroom before us was still there. My teacher entered class looking like she was trying to put her life together. Gathering the materials she will be needing for the lesson. She made a couple of announcements and went along teaching. The class was long and dreadful. I wanted to bring my bed in class to fall asleep. It felt like she has been talking forever until I checked the time and saw only 25 minutes passed I realized this was going to be a long class. Class ended and I hurried out of class not wanting to stay any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Classroom Reflection Analysis For the final part of the project, me and the other students, plus the teachers and aides met in the classroom on Monday morning to reflect on the project. During the final round table teachers expressed some concern with communication. I think they felt like it was difficult to communicate with us students since they did not have any contact information from us. A great suggestion was made during the meeting to make a google document that would include all of our contact information as well as updates and information about the all the children who the teachers were concerned about. I feel like this would be beneficial for both the students and the teachers in order to contact each other more easily and to get updates on the children efficiently. During the course of the semester, I felt like the students and the teachers were not on the same page due to the issues of contacting each other. For instance, when me and partner would get to the preschool we sometimes would be unable to fully observe or coach during our time due to other activities happening in the classroom. For example, one time me and my partner came and an employee from the public library was there for her weekly reading activity. I felt a little surprised by this novel situation, but my partner and I would try and adjust our plan to make it feasible to the new situation. Another issue the teachers had was determining what time works best for us students to come in and observe or coach. Our teacher Jihan did not limit us too much on our times, except when they were on field trips. Other teachers noted that they had specific times for students to come in, and they felt overwhelmed by the amount of students. They described the situations to be somewhat difficult to discuss the children they were concerned about or how the strategies were working for them. Hearing the teachers talk about when would be the best time for students to come in reminded me that they have a lot to take into consideration when planning. For instance, they need to take into account which and how many children will be in their classroom since some arrive late and some leave early. They need to take into account how much help they will need to prepare or clean up an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Terrorism Has Plagued The World While terrorism has plagued the world through many forms since the age of time, it wasn t until the hijacking of 1972 that caused airports both domestically and internationally to establish airport security. From one of the first major terrorist attacks on an aircraft in 1955 to the multiple attacks throughout the 1960s and 70s, for the first time airports were introduced to armed security guards, metal detectors, and explosive detection canines. Over the next two and half decades, airports also saw the use of U.S. Marshall s aboard flights, and the installations of X Ray machines for both carry on and checked luggage. Airport security has gone through drastic changes since the 2001 World Trade Center terrorist attack to insure the safety of passengers traveling domestically and abroad with the creation of the Transportation Security Administration, updated screening machines, policy and procedures, and vigorous pat down searches. Weeks away from the thirteenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center towers, airports across the world are still continuing to operate with higher security levels with tighter security measures as the threat to jetliners remains constant. These changes have not been more apparent than in the United States. With the creation of the TSA in November 2001, one of their first changes to travel policy was for passengers to show up at least two hours early to ensure there was enough time for the newly reformed security measures. While carry on luggage was sent through an x ray machine and passengers through metal detectors, passengers and their luggage were randomly selected by security personnel for additional screening that included a physical search of the passengers carry on luggage. In cases of chronic diseases such as cancer, HIV AIDS, and tuberculosis, the problem of late diagnosis is severe which causes high number of casualties. The physical symptoms may take time to appear in some cases of cancer. When a person starts to notice the symptoms, the disease is already in a late stage. Circulating tumor cells are cells that break off from the cancer and move into the blood stream. Protein markers and circulating tumor cells can be measured with simple blood tests. This method is not specific in nature as one marker may be common for multiple types of cancer. Hence, other tests are performed to confirm the diagnosis of breast cancer. For example, presence of CEA (carcinoembryonic antigen) marker is associated with colon, lung, and liver cancer. It also suggests that breast cancer has travelled to other parts of body. iii) Breast MRI: MRI, or magnetic resonance imaging, is a technology that uses magnets and radio waves to produce detailed cross sectional images of the inside of the body. • 8. Do Animals Have Rights...a Philosophical View Do Animals Have Rights? Should animals be harmed to benefit mankind? This pressing question has been around for at least the past two centuries. During the early nineteenth century, animal experiments emerged as an important method of science and, in fact, marked the birth of experimental physiology and neuroscience as we currently know it. There were, however, guidelines that existed even back then which restricted the conditions of experimentation. These early rules protected the animals, in the sense that all procedures performed were done so with as little pain as possible and solely to investigate new truths. Adopting the animals perspectives, they would probably not agree that these types of regulations were much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many viewpoints concerning this issue that need to be dealt with in order to fully grasp the mindset of those so deeply involved in the struggle to determine what, if any, rights that animals possess. Tom Regan, a professor of philosophy at North Carolina State University and one of the leading proponents of this theory, claims that animals have rights – the right to be treated in a certain way. Regan claims that animals have preferences, goals, and most importantly, mental states that enter into the explanation of their behavior. In his words, animals are subjects of a life just like humans and each subject of life contains inherent value . What Regan means by this is that by performing experiments on animals, you are reducing them to mere tools and violating their basic rights. He justifies his theory by using an example containing the retarded and insane. He says that if these types of persons are allowed moral rights, despite their inability to think rationally, then all mammals should have moral rights. Also, he states that discriminating on the basis of species is really fundamentally just the same moral mistake as discrimination on the basis of race or sex. Discriminating on these terms is morally irrelevant and fails to accord equal consideration, states Regan. Another theory that is against cruelty to animals in such ... Iran And The Iranian Nuclear Weapons Program The summer of 2015 marked a significant event in history the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, Germany, and Iran were able to come to an agreement about restricting Iran s nuclear programs. The capability of Iran to pursue a nuclear weapon scared the international community, and this deal brought some peace to the political scene. For Iran, a nuclear weapon represented legitimacy and leverage over the major powers of the world, so it is interesting that Iran willingly blocked its avenue to achieve this bargaining chip. On January 16, 2016, the International Atomic Energy Agency officially declared, Iran has curbed its nuclear program enough to begin receiving relief on sanctions (Kennedy 2016). This statement alone demonstrates that the nuclear deal reduced the risk of a nuclear Iran. The International Atomic Energy Agency has historically expressed great concerns about Iran s overt and clandestine nuclear operations. The nuclear deal with Iran granted the International Atomic Energy Agency to have the ability to do strict inspections on Iran, which Iran has avoided in the past, so the declaration of Iran s fulfillment of international standards shows the efficacy and the durability of the agreement. The major critics of the nuclear deal cite Iran s track record of long term deviation from previous agreements and resolutions and argue Iran will renege on its promises. This argument is legitimate because Iran has numerous violations across decades. For example, from about the mid 1980s to 2003, Iran violated several sections of the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement. Even though there was 200 years of slavery until the prevail of the civil war and the abolition of slavery, most people forget that some African Americans were free during that time, but how free were they? Free African Americans in the Northern states were free, but had no rights based on the voting chart, Charles Mackay s excerpt, and Charles Andrews excerpt. Out of the three regions in the North, black males could only vote in one of them. Mackay recognizes their freedom , but denies African Americans of their rights. Finally, Andrews who was the top of his class explains how there s no place for his talent. Free African Americans may have had freedom, but not the freedom that white males had, and certainly not the rights they needed to fully function in society. In the voting chart, it shows if black males could vote or do jury duty in each state in the North in 1860. The data it shows says that in the Mid Atlantic and Midwest, most black males were either not permitted or were restricted to vote. In the years following WWII, Greece began to identify itself more as a Western European nation than as a Balkan state. This agreement helped to bury the hatchet between these two former enemies, and served as a blueprint going forward in lowering trade barriers, implementing common tariffs on imports from outside nations and increasing cooperation among European countries. These efforts resulted in the establishment of the European Economic Community in 1957. As old hostilities faded, Europe began to see itself more as a cohesive unit of interrelated economic and political systems and provided a united front against the economic power of the United States on one side, and the threat of communism on the other side. For example, France and Germany, once bitter enemies, made the decision to link their currencies in response to what they considered to be the opportunistic economic policies of the United States. It was met with sharp criticism from the tobacco industry. However, some saw it as a great move by the government in looking after the welfare of its citizens. I hope to explore in the essay each side s voice as well as deal with the myriad of issues the government faced upon the bans proposal. Lastly I will give my opinion on what position the government should take. One the main arguments for this proposed ban was that the tobacco industry was targeting children. In fact citing an internal documents from the tobacco industry that referred to 14 to 24 year olds as their targets (Reynold, 2010). Recognizing this report for India was extremely important. Due to the increased health problems of smoking by targeting a younger age bracket they would effectively increase the weight the government had to carry when it comes to providing health care for its citizens. The government also had in its favor the fact that in all but one case smoking use by young people had decreased when these bans where put in effect. The government s argument for banning tobacco ads can be summed up pretty simply. They were trying to watching out for the safety of their citizens and were working toward the betterment of India. The government had the advantage of being able to take the moral high road and being able to paint the tobacco industry as the devil . The Nays in this case were represented ... Generally, both parties believe their exchanges are the same amount of cash flows. The most common swaps are interest rate swap and currency swap. The transaction needs a dealer to realise and dealers get the profits from transaction cost and the bid ask spread of the cash flows. Take interest rate swap as an example, the hedgers may wish to have a certain fixed interest payment for their loans. By contrast, the speculators are more willing to take a floating interest payment either they have the same amount of loan or not. The dealer combine these two counterparties together and create the swap for the exchange of fixed interest rate and floating interest rate (Simons Horward, 2003). To the interest payment data, the hedger pays the fixed interests to the speculator and received the floating interests according to the dealer. Then they pay the floating interests to the cash market. In this case, they only pay the fixed interest rate as agreed before and eliminate the risk of interest rate uncertainty. For the speculators, they pay the floating interests and receive the fixed interests. They stole silently away from the village without bidding good by to any one; and they made such haste that at sunrise they felt themselves quite safe from pursuit. Don Quixote, riding in full armor astride of gaunt Rozinante, felt that he was indeed the most valorous knight in the world; and no doubt he was a formidable sight. As for Sancho Panza, he rode like a patriarch, with his knapsack on one side of him and a leather bottle on the other, his feet almost dragging on the ground. His mind was full of thoughts about that island of which he hoped to be the governor. The sun rose high above the hills. The two travelers jogged onward across the plains of Montiel. Both were silent, for both had high purposes in view. At length, Sancho Panza spoke: I beseech you, Sir Knight errant, be sure to remember the island you promised me. I dare say I shall make out to govern it, let it be ever so big. Don Quixote answered with becoming dignity: Friend Sancho, you must know that it has always been the custom of knights errant to conquer islands and put their squires over them as governors. Now it is my intention to keep up that good custom. You are indeed a rare master, said Sancho Panza. Well, I am thinking I might even improve upon that good custom, said Don Quixote. Some, like George Orwell in Politics and the English Language, may even argue that the English language is on the decline. In The World of Doublespeak, Lutz claims that doublespeak is a major contributing factor to the decline of the English language as it limits our ability to think crucially. Ultimately, doublespeak is a dangerous phenomenon, and each form of doublespeak comes with its own danger. Doublespeak is language that is not technically a lie but is not the full truth either. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lutz defines jargon as the specialized language of a trade, profession, or similar group (349). This is necessary for professionals to be able to communicate effectively with people of the same profession. On the other hand, jargon can be used pretentiously, making simple concepts appear more complex than they need to be in order to impress an audience. Even something as simple as smelling can be turned into medical sounding nonsense organoleptic analysis (Lutz, 349). When professionals use this language around people that would not be expected to know what they mean, it is purposely confusing. Consequently, this causes people to overlook important details because they cannot comprehend them. Thirdly, gobbledygook is a matter of piling on words, of overwhelming the audience with words (Lutz, 350). This makes people seem cultured and reputable. It sounds impressive as a speech, but then makes no sense when it is fully analyzed as a text. People who speak like this ultimately come across as knowing nothing about what they are saying. This was especially prevalent in NASA s shuttle program, which ultimately led to the Challenger disaster in 1986.
