Acupuncture In Ancient China
INTRODUCTION
In ancient China, life revolved around superstitious beliefs and doctrine stemming from the idea that
balance and harmony were factors commanding regularity. In encompassing the human body, the
beliefs, now labeled as traditional Chinese medicine, were primarily used to explain health and
disease, and therefore were incorporated into medicinal practices. Ancient Chinese acupuncturists not
only utilized these medicinal beliefs for remedial reasons, but for some, it was used for destruction as
well. These acupuncturists were the early martial artists in China, using their medical knowledge in
confrontations to defend themselves and leave their opponents with drastic injuries. From their healing
art, came the theory and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike Western medicine, acupuncture is based on the ancient beliefs of China rather than modern
scientific research. Although its roots are ancient, acupunctural treatments are proven to resolve pains
and symptoms, perhaps even better than the use of modern Western treatments.
KEEPING WITH TRADITION In traditional Chinese medicine, the human body is healthy only when
its internal state is in harmony and balance. The disruption of this internal balance, however, causes
for disease and illnesses. According to Dillman and Thomas, The body is understood as a wholly
interactive, interrelated, and integrated organism. The health of each part of the body depends on the
wellness of the whole (Advanced 34). Due to the holistic view of the body, only one diseased part of
the whole organism can disrupt balance and affect other internal parts of the body as well.
Subsequently, balance within the whole body is promoted within Chinese medicinal beliefs. A central
concept of Chinese medicine is the theory of yin and yang, which embodies the complete notion of the
balance necessary for health. The East Asian concept of Yin Yang suggests that all transformation
occurs by the constant interplay of two opposing and at the same time harmonious forces. . . . They are
expressed as yin, (yielding) and yang, (firmness) (Morales 27). Both forces are composed of

Examples Of Cultural Differences In The United States
In the United States of America, there are a lot of cultural differences compared to other countries.
These cultural differences could vary from different types of healthcare provided by their government,
choice of food, and attitude. It has been about fifteen years now that I have lived in the United States
of America and I have noticed a lot of cultural differences that the US has the is a lot different to other
countries around the world. I have noticed these cultural differences by exposing myself to the public.

Sputnik s Effect On The Space Race
The effect of Sputnik I on the Space Race
Sputnik 1 orbited the Earth every 98 minutes, flying over the United States seven times a day.
(Danielle Burton) During the Cold war the launch of Sputnik I by the Soviet Union in October 1957
created a fear in the United States. The United states feared that nuclear warheads could soon come. In
response the United States created and funded the National Defense Education Act(NDEA), and the
National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA). The United States and the Soviet Union were
at the start of an arms race and a space race. The funds for NASA were excellent, because the United
states had a lot of fear after seeing what the Soviet Union was doing.
During the space race it was the United States and the USSR fighting against each other in a lot of
battles that both sides took the other side of. There was the arms race and the space race both were
huge because one of them was the race to space and the other was all the battles in the ground. During
world war 1 the United States and the USSR were on the same side of each other fighting together
against hitler. But because both of these countries have a different view of government they never
really got along. As soon as world war 1 ended both countries wanted to spread their government and
neither side wanted the other one be too strong. Once the atomic bomb invented and both sides had it

Dead Man s Pockets
Stephen Covey, an educator, author, and businessman, once said most of us spend too much time on
what is urgent and not enough time on what is important . A lot of people are so focused on work that
has to be done, even though it s not what they should be prioritizing, for instance, family and friends.
They are not appreciating living in the moment and instead are rushing around, not making time for
the things they should be. If people are determined to get work done, they will soon take actions they
wish hadn t occurred. In the short story, Contents of the Dead Man s Pockets , the main character,

Infant Mortality Within the United States Essay
Infant Mortality Within the United States
Herein I briefly overview the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) within the United States. Initially, I discuss
specific causes of infant death and then, contributing factors which put babies at risk. Next, the
distribution of various IMR is surveyed on a state to state basis. States possessing the ten highest
infant mortality rates are discussed, including possible reasons for higher IMR. In addition, those
states with the ten lowest IMR are mentioned. In conclusion, I consider preventative measures for
minimizing the number of babies that die each year.

Upon graduation from high school, students should master eighteen basic principles. This paper
provides an opportunity for students to know and understand three of these guidelines. First, students
will know how to use maps and graphical tools to acquire, process, and report information (number
one of the National Standards). Hot links connect data presented throughout the text to pie graphs, bar
graphs, charts, tables, and a map located at appropriate web sites. Second, the students will know and
understand that people define regions and will be able to use them to interpret the world s (or the
United States) changing complexity (number five of the National Standards). For various reasons
infant mortality rate within the United States is higher among regions in which certain populations
live. Knowledge concerning the distribution of these populations facilitates the students understanding
of IMR distribution. Third, the student will know and understand that culture and experience influence
people s perceptions of places and experiences (number six of the National Standards). People tend to
form opinions about other people and places based on their own background and biases. Students must

Essay about Gender Roles in Ancient Greek Society
Gender Roles in Ancient Greek Society Throughout history, the roles of women and men have always
differed to some degree. In ancient Greece, the traditional roles were clear cut and defined. Women
stayed home to care for children and do housework while men left to work. This system of society was
not too far off the hunter gatherer concept where women cared for the house and the men hunted.
Intriguingly enough, despite the customary submissive role, women had a more multifaceted role and
image in society as juxtaposed with the rather simple role men played. Morals for the two were also
different. Men obviously had the upper hand with women being the traditional passive. For an
example, it was quite acceptable for a man to commit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As shown, women were considered naturally submissive as in most other old cultures. This is
somewhat understandable as women were the ones who bore children and men provided for the family
unit. As time progressed, this stereotype was over emphasized into what is portrayed in these plays
and poems. Despite this submissive image, Greek women were not considered naïve, but a pleasurable
if a bit foolish kind of a creature. In Aristophane?s play, Lysistrata, this concept is amply portrayed.
Most of the women are portrayed, as impulsive individuals while men are carnal gluttons.
Notwithstanding this facet of their image women could also be wily as Medea and Lysistrata: ?What is
more, you were born a woman, And women, though most helpless in doing good deeds, Are of every
evil the cleverest of contrives? The deceitful female is epitomized by the character of Aphrodite in
Euripidies?s Hippolytus. Due to having her altar neglected (as in the case of Psyche) she plotted to
bring ruin to Hippolytus and all those who loved him. At the end of the play, Artemis plots revenge
against Aphrodite (also called Cypris) saying: ?Hush, that is enough! You shall not be unavenged,
Cypris shall find the angry shafts she hurls Against you for you?re your piety and innocence Shall cost
her dear. I?ll wait until she loves a mortal next time, And with this hand?with these unerring arrows

Similarities Between To Kill A Mockingbird Book And Movie
Books and movies are never exactly the same. Movies tend to leave out events that took place in the
novel and may do things not according to the novel. To Kill A Mockingbird has a few difference and
similarities between the novel and film. One of the differences, for example, is that in the movie Dill

similarity that both share is when Atticus kills the mad dog that is disturbing the neighborhood. These

Essay on The Cause of the Devastation of Hurricane Katrina
The historical event of Hurricane Katrina, a category three hurricane with winds ranging from 111 130
mph, in August 2005 revealed major structural failures in the levee systems of New Orleans. Though
not all structural failures are as catastrophic, the breeched levees led to loss of life, homes, businesses,
highways, and left a trail of destruction that is still being repaired today. The result of this failure led
to lawsuits, conspiracy theories, and court cases. Hurricane Katrina had a major effect upon our
country and those results are still rippling on today. Though a city once devastated, major
improvements to the failed system have been made and leave the city feeling safe once again. When
Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Between these three levees alone, the congressional inspection discovered more than fifty breeches in
the structural design. Once the speculations of a faulty levee system were proven correct, the blame
inevitably fell upon the designer s shoulders; the federal company of the U.S. army corps of
engineering. This organization admitted to have fallen short of the specifications required for the
levee. Five main studies were completed to determine the cause of the levee failure, two of which
derived from LSU and FEMA.
The studies found: that the levees did not follow design specifications, there were incomplete sections,
surrounding soil gave way, substandard construction of levee segments, and warning signs were
ignored.
Many comparable breeches along the levees were found throughout the city. Sections of the wall that
were incomplete and cracked prior to the hurricane were the first to fall. Many junctions of the canals
were poorly engineered and were too weak to handle any great amount of pressure. The safe load for
the canals was designed to hold around fourteen feet of water flow. In reality, the canals were only
built to safely hold seven feet of flow. In most places the water never capped the tops of the canals,
they simply broke when halfway full. One of the main causes for this was that the steel sheet pilings
were seven feet less deep than the designs called for. This allowed for the already

Why Is Raphael Considered An Artist

A Comparison of Two James Bond Posters

recent Bond films to have been released in 1999. The two film posters are distinctively different,
which would be expected as the films were released decades apart from eachother.

This also may have something to do with the fact that in the 90 s, the first female head of MI5 was
introduced into the films.
The genre of the film is far more evident in the poster for The World Is Not Enough . The images used
connote an action film that has many different narratives. The poster is lively and eye catching and is
full of bright, vivid images. The poster fits in very well with the title of the film, as it looks like James
Bond is going to embark on some international mission, the image of some of the continents in flames
shows this. There are also several images circling around the main characters in the film, which look
futuristic and scientific and feature explosions and car chases. Comparing the two posters also shows
how technology and science has progressed through the decades and this is very apparent in the 1999
film poster, which looks far more advanced, as far as gadgets and weapons go.
The Dr No poster does not specify the genre so well. It could be for several different genres. It
indicates that it could possibly be a spy or mystery film, which is partly true of the James Bond
movies.

Major Problems For The Livestock Industry Throughout The...
Introduction
Babesia parasites are obligate intraerythrocytic protozoa capable of invading a wide range of
vertebrate hosts, subsequently leading to serious economic problems for the livestock industry
throughout tropical and subtropical regions of the world (Homer et al., 2000;
Uilenberg, 2006). Bovine babesiosis is mainly caused by two species of bovine intraerythrocytic
protozoan parasites, Babesia bovis and Babesia bigemina. Infected animals in an acute stage have
symptoms of fever, anemia, hemoglobinuria, and sometimes resulting in death. In contrast, those in
chronic stages may become chronic carriers without clinical signs. Human and rodent babesiosis
caused by Babesia microti has emerged as a life threatening zoonosis in the world (Kjemtrup and
Conrad, 2000). Although infection usually is asymptomatic, immunocompromised and elder people
develop mild to moderate fever, headache, body aches, fatigue, and anorexia. Importantly, B. microti
has been used as an experimental model for studying novel chemotherapy (Aboulaila et al., 2012) and
host immune responses, the understanding of which is a prerequisite for developing an effective
vaccine against
Babesia parasites (Yokoyama et al., 2003).
Although several attempts have been made to develop a vaccine against babesiosis, no vaccine has yet
proven to be completely effective in preventing Babesia infection. Attenuated live vaccines lead to
significant decreases in mortality; however, they do not prevent the infection or

Spanking Punishment
Spanking and time out are both discipline strategies parents often resort to when their children
misbehave, and they are both considered punishment. According to the social learning theory, a
punishment such as spanking should follow a non desirable behavior in an attempt to decrease the
likelihood that it ever occurs again (Barry, 2012). For any punishment to be effective, parents should
follow three basic principles: First, the punishment must be consistently used. That is, whenever the
child act inappropriately, punishment must ensue. Letting a child get away from a punishment not only
confuses the child, but might also act as a reward to the child and increase the likelihood that the bad
bahavior happens again (Barry, 2012). Second, any punishment must be accompanied by a concise
explanation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Studies have shown that combining reasoning and punishment leads to greater reduction in
misbehavior than using punishment alone (Berk, 2012), which is consistent with the idea that children
are more willing to comply with rules that seem fair and reasonable (Berk, 2012). Third, any
punishment must be based on a loving and warm parent child relationship. Children of loving and
caring parents are more likely to feel guilty when they misbehave, and are more willing to correct
their wrongdoing to restore the relationship with their parents (Berk, 2012). In addition to these

Student Competency Essay
The years prior to kindergarten heavily impact one s future and their overall academic literacy. School
readiness, a multidimensional concept, possess the ability to convey advantages in academic success
in school. Children that prematurely attend school have shown more success in development of early
skills in math and reading. These individuals tend to show superior academic success, attain higher
levels of education, and have a higher chance of securing employment (1). One s ability to identify
letters, execute abstract and logical reasoning, and perform fine motor skills these factors support the
claim that early exposure to academic material increases the likeliness of competency. In recent years,
the number of young children attaining adequate literacy through early childhood exposure has
increased overwhelmingly. During the beginning years of a child s life, regarding socioeconomic
status, ethnicity, or religion, these factors determine a child s success in attaining academic
competency.
Children who live in poverty stricken countries tend to perform inferior to that of children in middle
class households. Over 71% of Euro American children performed at a higher grade level compared to
African American children. This gap of performance follows the affected child throughout their
educational career and may cause a deficit in the number of students graduating high school and
postsecondary educational institutions (4). Even if a poverty stricken child graduated, many

In the United States, there are many support groups and programs available to individuals seeking

Part 1 Remote Access and Service Redundancy What is Redundancy? And know about Redundancy. A
Redundancy can have serval meanings. But commonly refers to spare hardware that is kept online or
to duplicate data. Redundant can describe computer or network system components, such as fans, hard
disk drives, server, operating systems, switches and telecommunication links that are installed to back
up primary resources in case they fail. A well known example of a redundant system is the redundant
array of independent disks. It s called RAID. Redundant bits are extra binary digits that are generated
and moved with a data transfer to ensure that no bits were lost during the data transfer. Redundant data
can protect a storage array against data loss in the event of a hard disk failure. What are the advantage

Test Mistakes
I consider myself a poor test taker. This is not because of anxiety or not studying all of the material,
but because I find myself making wrong decisions on challenging tests. Decisions such as leaving a
question blank when short on time or second guessing myself to the wrong answer have resulted in me
scoring lower on a test. I recognize my testing mistakes and I have greatly improved over the years.
The problem with the tests that I have taken is that I was never taught how to effectively take exams. I
have taught myself how to take tests for the most part (aside from the basic skills such as skim through
the test packet when starting, and skip a question and come back to it later if it is difficult). Despite

mostly of long problems. My better test was one that had a mixture of several question types and
covered the material in conceptual and applied ways. Lastly, all tests were challenging, but my
chemistry professor found the right balance of complexity in the problems. Overall, I believe that
many students struggle with school partially because of their testing experience. Learning the

Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, the Franklin presents a tale which deftly examines the
tension between ideal vs. reality. In a perfect world the marriage promise between Arveragus and
Dorigen sets the tone for the rest of the tale by means of marital equality but in reality no good comes
from it. Although The Franklin s Tale is arguably the most equal out of all the Marriage Groups, its
repetition of acts of magnanimity overpowers that equality and turns it into a kind of competition. The
foundation of marriage between them is decided together and creates this method of balanced
responsibility that is almost ideal but realistically unable to occur due to inherent gender and social
expectations. The Franklin s final question regarding who the most free at the end of the tale is very
debatable because of the different types of free in Middle English. The Franklin zero s in on that
question for only the men and leaves out an important character. Because Dorigen and Arveragus both
agreed to the terms of their marriage contract, it seems unfair to leave out Dorigen s impact she has on
the overall theme of free ness. So given that each character in this tale is in chain of promised service
to another, the ambiguity of the final question proposed by the Franklin complicates the ability to
judge who is the most free when including Dorigen. The difficulty of answering the Franklin s
question is due to the multipurpose usage of the word free in Middle English.

Cognitive Dissonance In Children
One occasion I experienced cognitive dissonance was two years ago. My son was six years old, and
his favorite thing to do was help mommy. On this particular day he surprised me with a special picnic
lunch he made himself. He fixed us both a sandwich and a glass of overly sweetened chocolate milk.
My heart swelled with his consideration and I took a huge bite out of my sandwich. I should have
checked it. Between the slices of white bread lay pickles, mustard, peanut butter, chocolate chips and
ham. The contents of my stomach argued with my mouth; it threatened expulsion if I tried to swallow.
But, that sweet face was looking up at me expectantly awaiting my delight at his creation. How could
I hurt him? I choked it down with a smile on my face. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Are Agreeable People
According to Robbins and Judge (2013) agreeableness refers to individual s propensity to defer others.
Highly agreeable people are cooperative, warm and trusting and enormously likeable. Top performers
refers to individuals who are highly productive and person who always worked on developing their
work skills and job performance (Harpham, n.d.). Top performers are usually very decisive and
determined in every single task they do, and most of them are aspire to be leaders by working hard

In our opinion, employer should choose agreeable employees over top performers because most of

Agreeable people are likely to get along with people effortlessly. These people are certainly to help

considerate, friendly, generous, helpful, and willing to compromise their interests with others. Thus,
they will create a warm environment in the company and there is no doubt that their colleagues would

Argumentative Essay On Creativity
The Creativity Epidemic Most would agree that the technological advances today have caused this
generation to become crippled in their creativity. The lack of face to face communication has severely
damaged this generations ability to separate text speech from formal speeches. Being born in a
generation were technology is only at it s peak, it s hard to separate yourself from the tech savvy
world. As stated in the article The Creativity Crisis by Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman the accepted
definition of creativity is production of something original and useful, and that s what s reflected in
the tests. There is never one right answer. To be creative requires divergent thinking (generating many
unique ideas) and then convergent thinking (combining those ideas into the best result). When most
think of technology you only see the advances made, the achievements fulfilled and the key factor it
plays in our society today, for example as in The Limits to Creativity in Education: Dilemmas for the
Educator It argues that the notion of creativity may be value and culture specific and that this poses
the so called liberal educator with various dilemmas of principle and pedagogy, which are explored
(Anna Craft 1). In other words, technology is a blessing seeing all the doors its opened for us in the
short amount of time its been here. But it s also a curse. In retrospect others might argue that
technology helps open the door to a child s imagination. As stated in The Pros and Cons of
Technology by Amanda Ronan on January 16, 2017; Technology gives children the ability to learn in
ways their parents and grandparents never had. Today s learners have immediate access to answers
and research. Yet, that immediate access is changing the way students think about work and how they
feel emotionally (Amanda Ronan). This significant emotional change is centered around the
deprivation on other social outlets. The youth of today s social and educational status is complete
centered around where they rank in the chain of technological coherency. Seeing how tablets and
computers are replacing textbooks due to everything being encrypted into software anyone that hasn t
evolved is sure to be left behind in a stone age of their own.

Among The Multitude
Among the multitudes was written by Wislawa Szymborska. She published her firstpoem in 1945,
which started her poetry career. She spent much of her youth advocating for communism, but later
become an advocate for free speech and individuality. Her poems exhibit a curious mind, finding joy
in even the simplest things, and often have simple yet subtle theme. Among the Multitudes reflects
this, and exhibits many of the same elements and themes of her other poems such as nature. This poem
is a celebration of individuality, as she seeks awareness for the pure uniqueness and coincidental life
is. Syzmborska contrasts her individuality as she ponders what her life could have been instead and
shows her gratitude for the life she has been given through a series of coincidences and fate.

The Treaty of Versailles was signed by Germany and the allied powers, which consisted of the United
Kingdom, France, Italy, and the United States, on 28th June 1919, in the hall of mirrors, effectively
ending World War One (WW1) after an armistice of seven months . This treaty established the League
of Nations and decided the repercussions that Germany would have to pay for instigating the war.
Some of these repercussions were demilitarization, losing ten percent of its overall land and other

Esters Lab
Flavor Lab
Leslie Perez
FST 426L.1
Purpose
The objective of this experiment is to prepare and identify several types of esters by the process of
dehydration synthesis using an alcohol with an acid.
Introduction
The process by which esters are formed is a reversible reaction called esterification. They are formed
when alcohols react with carboxylic acids in the presence of hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid. This
reaction is known as a condensation reaction. In the reaction above, the hydroxyl group ( OH) in the
carboxylic acid is replaced by the alkoxy group ( R*O) of the alcohol yielding an ester and water.
Esters are used as constituents of perfumes, cosmetics, and surfactants, just to mention a few
examples. In addition to this they are used in the food industry for flavoring of sweet and margarine.

Table 1 shows the different alcohols and acids used for the production of esters. The name of the esters
is shown in the last column of this table as well as how the team member identified the odors of the
ester produced. Table 2 shows the results for all 5 groups in the class. Most of the esters produced in
this laboratory experiment were easily identified as specific fragances such as banana, wintergreen,
and menthol. It is shown in the table, that banana was the most identified one followed by tube M and
tube A. The rest of the esters, E and B, had more variability in the identification of esters while C was
identified as mouthwash, which can be associated to the menthol flavor and odor. Ester in tube B was
the hardest to be identified according to Table 2, since it had 4 different associated smells to it.
Students identified one of the odors as expo marker which can be due to experimental error in which
the ester did not fully react and the solution smelled more like alcohol (ethanol or isopropanol), which
are ingredients that most dry erase markers such as the brand Expo

Bowfishing Research Paper
Basic Bowfishing Accessories Nearly every task is made easier by the presence of a few well chosen
accessories, in addition to the main tools you are going to use. For example, if you are making
candles, you need nothing beyond wax, wicks, a melter, a thermometer, and a mold. However,
accessories such as gloves to protect you from splashes, a bottle of olive oil to help the candles come
loose, and so forth will make your job easier and more pleasant. Similarly, you can paint a ceiling
without a shower cap to protect your hair and drop cloths to shield the floor, but the results are better
if these accessories are present. Bowfishing is no exception to this rule. Although the only absolutely
necessary items are a bow, a set of arrow, and a reel, there are perhaps half a dozen or a dozen items
that will make the experience much easier and far more enjoyable. These accessories give you a boost
in many different ways, from allowing you to carry out simple field repairs on your equipment, to just
making you more comfortable and, after all, bowfishing is supposed to be enjoyable. ... Show more

because it opened my eyes to reading books. My original opinion about books are that they are
pointless to read and a waste of my time. I could not have been more wrong. Before taking the class I

Bilingual Education Policy Analysis
Bilingual education policies in the Unites States have been influenced by many factors. These factors
range from the different attitudes towards languages in general and the controversy that bilingual
education creates among interested parties, to the relation between state and federal level language
policies. All of these factors together, along with a number of historical events, have contributed, in
one way or another, in shaping the country s policies of teaching language minority students
(Crawford, 2004; Johnson Johnson, 2015; Ruiz, 1988).
Before proceeding to the discussion of each factor, we may begin with a definition of what bilingual
education is. According to the Education Commission of the States website (2015), bilingual

Johnson and Johnson (2015) point out that the nation level language policies are affected by the way
each state interprets and implements them. For instance, the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) in

programs that are already in it. While the same act resulted in a notable growth in other non English

and Washington states played a significant role both cases in determining the type of education in the
public schools in both states (Johnson Johnson, 2015, p. 93). This, as a matter of fact, shows that the
federal level language policies, NCLB here, empower states roles in deciding the most suitable

In a narrative that spans geography and time, five protagonists contemplate the human experience. A
young Puritan woman travels to the New World with her unwanted new husband. Alan Turing, the
renowned mathematician and code breaker, writes letters to his best friend s mother. A Jewish refugee
and professor of computer science struggles to reconnect with his increasingly detached wife. An
isolated and traumatized teenage girl exchanges messages with an intelligent software program. A

Dynamic Characters In The Winter s Tale
In order to grow and learn, one must be dynamic and not static. The definition of a character being
dynamic is when a person undergoes an important inner change in their personality and/or attitude.
Static character is the opposite of dynamic; static characters are defined in such a way that the
character does not show any changes from the beginning of the story to the end of the story. In
Shakespeare s play, The Winter s Tale, there are a couple of characters that are dynamic, but there are
also some characters that are static. Dynamic characters are those who either learn from a lesson or are
otherwise changed by what they have faced and experienced. These type of characters, also provide
the most information for a character analysis because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These type of characters do not change as much or even at all throughout the story. Also, these static
characters are mostly never the main character and they can be viewed as either good or bad. The
personality of the static character when they are introduced are the same personality they have when
the story comes to an end. In addition, all of their actions in between the story stays true to their
personality. An example of a static character would be the Joker because at the beginning of the
movie, the Joker is look upon as a homicidal, psychotical maniac. When it comes to an end, the Joker
is still a homicidal maniac, which is different from Batman who is dynamic, because he never changed
his personality throughout everything that he had to endure. Another character who is static would
have to be Scar from The Lion King. Scar is a static character because at the beginning of the movie
he is an evil and vile character who lives in the shadows of his late brother, Mufasa. He also thinks
only about himself because he wants to be the king and he would do anything to rule all of the pride
land, that his brother use to rule. Scar is a static character because he keeps all of his traits and never
changes up on his personality and mentality even up until the very moment when he

Table Controls at Bellagio Casino Resort
Controls at the Bellagio Casino Resort Purpose of Case The Controls at the Bellagio Casino Resort
case was designed with several purposes in mind. First, it illustrates a control system that is dominated
by action and personnel controls, rather than results controls. The analysis of this system leads to
insights about some of the factors that limit the feasibility of results controls. Second, the case can
lead into a discussion of what is meant by the term tight control. The case presents an excellent
example of the application of tight action controls in the table games areas of the casino. Finally, the
case can lead into a discussion of the meaning of what auditors refer to as internal control, which is a
subset of the broader area ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Drop is a measure of the gambling activity at the tables, but negative drop variances cannot be taken
to mean that the dealers were not productive. The drop is dependent on the table s minimum and the
number and type of players who chose to play at that table on that shift. To illustrate, ask if the drop
results for blackjack Table 19 in Exhibit 12 (variance percentage of −28.52) suggest that the dealers on
that table that day were doing something poorly (e.g., slow dealing) or dishonestly (stealing money
before it was put into the drop box)? If managers wanted to check the details of what happened at that
table that day, they could examine a videotape of the action. The results measures are more reliable,
the larger the increment of the casino being measured (e.g., an entire shift vs. a single table) and the
longer the periods of time involved; hence, the GCB s requirement to investigate, on a monthly basis,
all statistical fluctuations by game type in excess of ±5% resulting from the comparison of the
previous calendar year to that of the current month. Reasons for the deviations could include the
activity of customers whose play materially affected the results of the month (the so called high roller
on a hot streak explanation); the effects of any changes to the rules, types of wagers, or game play
procedures; the effect of any errors or

U.s. Security Interests On Egyptian Citizens
Introduction Over the past five years Egypt has been in a growing state of turmoil. It has suffered two
coup d états that has resulted in five different leaders, and a constant change in national aims. It
temporarily lost US economic aid and military support, and the recent studies have brought to light the
effect that global warming will have on Egyptian citizens in the near future. If you consider all these
aspects together, you may assume that Egypt is in risk of soon becoming another problem state for
U.S. security interests. However, if you take a closer look at the changes made in just the last two
years, you can see that the opposite is true. This paper will argue that rather than being a hindrance to
U.S. security interests, Egypt has the potential to be one of its greatest allies. To do this, it will first
look at the overall importance of Egypt in the National Security s objectives of the United States. It
will then review the history of US Egyptian Relations, Egypt s military involvement with the United
States, and the recent political changes that are shaping Egypt s future. Then finally this paper will
take a moment to exam the leadership of Egypt s newest President, Abdel Fatteh el Sisi. In doing so
we will be able to see how Egypt is poised to be a key player, in accomplishing the U.S. security
objectives, and gain a better understanding of why the U.S. must make it a priority to support Egypt s
newly established leadership.
Egypt s Strategic Importance

  • 2. Acupuncture In Ancient China INTRODUCTION In ancient China, life revolved around superstitious beliefs and doctrine stemming from the idea that balance and harmony were factors commanding regularity. In encompassing the human body, the beliefs, now labeled as traditional Chinese medicine, were primarily used to explain health and disease, and therefore were incorporated into medicinal practices. Ancient Chinese acupuncturists not only utilized these medicinal beliefs for remedial reasons, but for some, it was used for destruction as well. These acupuncturists were the early martial artists in China, using their medical knowledge in confrontations to defend themselves and leave their opponents with drastic injuries. From their healing art, came the theory and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike Western medicine, acupuncture is based on the ancient beliefs of China rather than modern scientific research. Although its roots are ancient, acupunctural treatments are proven to resolve pains and symptoms, perhaps even better than the use of modern Western treatments. KEEPING WITH TRADITION In traditional Chinese medicine, the human body is healthy only when its internal state is in harmony and balance. The disruption of this internal balance, however, causes for disease and illnesses. According to Dillman and Thomas, The body is understood as a wholly interactive, interrelated, and integrated organism. The health of each part of the body depends on the wellness of the whole (Advanced 34). Due to the holistic view of the body, only one diseased part of the whole organism can disrupt balance and affect other internal parts of the body as well. Subsequently, balance within the whole body is promoted within Chinese medicinal beliefs. A central concept of Chinese medicine is the theory of yin and yang, which embodies the complete notion of the balance necessary for health. The East Asian concept of Yin Yang suggests that all transformation occurs by the constant interplay of two opposing and at the same time harmonious forces. . . . They are expressed as yin, (yielding) and yang, (firmness) (Morales 27). Both forces are composed of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Danielle Burton) During the Cold war the launch of Sputnik I by the Soviet Union in October 1957 created a fear in the United States. The United states feared that nuclear warheads could soon come. In response the United States created and funded the National Defense Education Act(NDEA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA). The United States and the Soviet Union were at the start of an arms race and a space race. The funds for NASA were excellent, because the United states had a lot of fear after seeing what the Soviet Union was doing. During the space race it was the United States and the USSR fighting against each other in a lot of battles that both sides took the other side of. A lot of people are so focused on work that has to be done, even though it s not what they should be prioritizing, for instance, family and friends. • 9. Essay about Gender Roles in Ancient Greek Society Gender Roles in Ancient Greek Society Throughout history, the roles of women and men have always differed to some degree. In ancient Greece, the traditional roles were clear cut and defined. Women stayed home to care for children and do housework while men left to work. This system of society was not too far off the hunter gatherer concept where women cared for the house and the men hunted. Intriguingly enough, despite the customary submissive role, women had a more multifaceted role and image in society as juxtaposed with the rather simple role men played. Morals for the two were also different. Men obviously had the upper hand with women being the traditional passive. For an example, it was quite acceptable for a man to commit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As shown, women were considered naturally submissive as in most other old cultures. This is somewhat understandable as women were the ones who bore children and men provided for the family unit. As time progressed, this stereotype was over emphasized into what is portrayed in these plays and poems. Despite this submissive image, Greek women were not considered naïve, but a pleasurable if a bit foolish kind of a creature. In Aristophane?s play, Lysistrata, this concept is amply portrayed. Most of the women are portrayed, as impulsive individuals while men are carnal gluttons. Notwithstanding this facet of their image women could also be wily as Medea and Lysistrata: ?What is more, you were born a woman, And women, though most helpless in doing good deeds, Are of every evil the cleverest of contrives? The deceitful female is epitomized by the character of Aphrodite in Euripidies?s Hippolytus. At the end of the play, Artemis plots revenge against Aphrodite (also called Cypris) saying: ?Hush, that is enough! Essay on The Cause of the Devastation of Hurricane Katrina The historical event of Hurricane Katrina, a category three hurricane with winds ranging from 111 130 mph, in August 2005 revealed major structural failures in the levee systems of New Orleans. Though not all structural failures are as catastrophic, the breeched levees led to loss of life, homes, businesses, highways, and left a trail of destruction that is still being repaired today. The result of this failure led to lawsuits, conspiracy theories, and court cases. Hurricane Katrina had a major effect upon our country and those results are still rippling on today. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Between these three levees alone, the congressional inspection discovered more than fifty breeches in the structural design. Once the speculations of a faulty levee system were proven correct, the blame inevitably fell upon the designer s shoulders; the federal company of the U.S. army corps of engineering. This organization admitted to have fallen short of the specifications required for the levee. Five main studies were completed to determine the cause of the levee failure, two of which derived from LSU and FEMA. The studies found: that the levees did not follow design specifications, there were incomplete sections, surrounding soil gave way, substandard construction of levee segments, and warning signs were ignored. Many comparable breeches along the levees were found throughout the city. Sections of the wall that were incomplete and cracked prior to the hurricane were the first to fall. Many junctions of the canals were poorly engineered and were too weak to handle any great amount of pressure. The safe load for the canals was designed to hold around fourteen feet of water flow. In reality, the canals were only built to safely hold seven feet of flow. In most places the water never capped the tops of the canals, they simply broke when halfway full. One of the main causes for this was that the steel sheet pilings were seven feet less deep than the designs called for. This allowed for the already ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The poster is lively and eye catching and is full of bright, vivid images. Comparing the two posters also shows how technology and science has progressed through the decades and this is very apparent in the 1999 film poster, which looks far more advanced, as far as gadgets and weapons go. The Dr No poster does not specify the genre so well. It could be for several different genres. Infected animals in an acute stage have symptoms of fever, anemia, hemoglobinuria, and sometimes resulting in death. In contrast, those in chronic stages may become chronic carriers without clinical signs. Human and rodent babesiosis caused by Babesia microti has emerged as a life threatening zoonosis in the world (Kjemtrup and Conrad, 2000). Although infection usually is asymptomatic, immunocompromised and elder people develop mild to moderate fever, headache, body aches, fatigue, and anorexia. Importantly, B. microti has been used as an experimental model for studying novel chemotherapy (Aboulaila et al., 2012) and host immune responses, the understanding of which is a prerequisite for developing an effective vaccine against Babesia parasites (Yokoyama et al., 2003). Although several attempts have been made to develop a vaccine against babesiosis, no vaccine has yet proven to be completely effective in preventing Babesia infection. Attenuated live vaccines lead to significant decreases in mortality; however, they do not prevent the infection or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Spanking Punishment Spanking and time out are both discipline strategies parents often resort to when their children misbehave, and they are both considered punishment. According to the social learning theory, a punishment such as spanking should follow a non desirable behavior in an attempt to decrease the likelihood that it ever occurs again (Barry, 2012). For any punishment to be effective, parents should follow three basic principles: First, the punishment must be consistently used. That is, whenever the child act inappropriately, punishment must ensue. Letting a child get away from a punishment not only confuses the child, but might also act as a reward to the child and increase the likelihood that the bad bahavior happens again (Barry, 2012). Second, any punishment must be accompanied by a concise explanation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Studies have shown that combining reasoning and punishment leads to greater reduction in misbehavior than using punishment alone (Berk, 2012), which is consistent with the idea that children are more willing to comply with rules that seem fair and reasonable (Berk, 2012). Third, any punishment must be based on a loving and warm parent child relationship. Children of loving and caring parents are more likely to feel guilty when they misbehave, and are more willing to correct their wrongdoing to restore the relationship with their parents (Berk, 2012). In addition to these principles, the timing of punishment is also important it should occur immediately after the misdeed so the child can relate the punishment to their misbahavior (Barry, 2012). Furthermore, spanking and time out should only be used on children from 2 to 10 years old, after they can control their behavior (Barry, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, the Franklin presents a tale which deftly examines the tension between ideal vs. reality. In a perfect world the marriage promise between Arveragus and Dorigen sets the tone for the rest of the tale by means of marital equality but in reality no good comes from it. Although The Franklin s Tale is arguably the most equal out of all the Marriage Groups, its repetition of acts of magnanimity overpowers that equality and turns it into a kind of competition. The foundation of marriage between them is decided together and creates this method of balanced responsibility that is almost ideal but realistically unable to occur due to inherent gender and social expectations. The Franklin s final question regarding who the most free at the end of the tale is very debatable because of the different types of free in Middle English. The Franklin zero s in on that question for only the men and leaves out an important character. Because Dorigen and Arveragus both agreed to the terms of their marriage contract, it seems unfair to leave out Dorigen s impact she has on the overall theme of free ness. So given that each character in this tale is in chain of promised service to another, the ambiguity of the final question proposed by the Franklin complicates the ability to judge who is the most free when including Dorigen. The difficulty of answering the Franklin s question is due to the multipurpose usage of the word free in Middle English. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The lack of face to face communication has severely damaged this generations ability to separate text speech from formal speeches. Being born in a generation were technology is only at it s peak, it s hard to separate yourself from the tech savvy world. As stated in the article The Creativity Crisis by Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman the accepted definition of creativity is production of something original and useful, and that s what s reflected in the tests. There is never one right answer. To be creative requires divergent thinking (generating many unique ideas) and then convergent thinking (combining those ideas into the best result). When most think of technology you only see the advances made, the achievements fulfilled and the key factor it plays in our society today, for example as in The Limits to Creativity in Education: Dilemmas for the Educator It argues that the notion of creativity may be value and culture specific and that this poses the so called liberal educator with various dilemmas of principle and pedagogy, which are explored (Anna Craft 1). In other words, technology is a blessing seeing all the doors its opened for us in the short amount of time its been here. But it s also a curse. In retrospect others might argue that technology helps open the door to a child s imagination. As stated in The Pros and Cons of Technology by Amanda Ronan on January 16, 2017; Technology gives children the ability to learn in ways their parents and grandparents never had. Today s learners have immediate access to answers and research. Yet, that immediate access is changing the way students think about work and how they feel emotionally (Amanda Ronan). These factors range from the different attitudes towards languages in general and the controversy that bilingual education creates among interested parties, to the relation between state and federal level language policies. Before proceeding to the discussion of each factor, we may begin with a definition of what bilingual education is. Johnson and Johnson (2015) point out that the nation level language policies are affected by the way each state interprets and implements them. For instance, the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) in 2002, has been implemented in Arizona State in a way that resulted in reinforcing the English only programs that are already in it. While the same act resulted in a notable growth in other non English programs in Washington State. The interpretation and application of the NCLB Act in both Arizona and Washington states played a significant role both cases in determining the type of education in the public schools in both states (Johnson Johnson, 2015, p. 93). This, as a matter of fact, shows that the federal level language policies, NCLB here, empower states roles in deciding the most suitable approach to follow in the implementation ... • 40. Dynamic Characters In The Winter s Tale In order to grow and learn, one must be dynamic and not static. The definition of a character being dynamic is when a person undergoes an important inner change in their personality and/or attitude. Static character is the opposite of dynamic; static characters are defined in such a way that the character does not show any changes from the beginning of the story to the end of the story. In Shakespeare s play, The Winter s Tale, there are a couple of characters that are dynamic, but there are also some characters that are static. Dynamic characters are those who either learn from a lesson or are otherwise changed by what they have faced and experienced. These type of characters, also provide the most information for a character analysis because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These type of characters do not change as much or even at all throughout the story. Also, these static characters are mostly never the main character and they can be viewed as either good or bad. The personality of the static character when they are introduced are the same personality they have when the story comes to an end. In addition, all of their actions in between the story stays true to their personality. An example of a static character would be the Joker because at the beginning of the movie, the Joker is look upon as a homicidal, psychotical maniac. When it comes to an end, the Joker is still a homicidal maniac, which is different from Batman who is dynamic, because he never changed his personality throughout everything that he had to endure. Another character who is static would have to be Scar from The Lion King. Scar is a static character because at the beginning of the movie he is an evil and vile character who lives in the shadows of his late brother, Mufasa. He also thinks only about himself because he wants to be the king and he would do anything to rule all of the pride land, that his brother use to rule. First, it illustrates a control system that is dominated by action and personnel controls, rather than results controls. The analysis of this system leads to insights about some of the factors that limit the feasibility of results controls. Second, the case can lead into a discussion of what is meant by the term tight control. The case presents an excellent example of the application of tight action controls in the table games areas of the casino. Drop is a measure of the gambling activity at the tables, but negative drop variances cannot be taken to mean that the dealers were not productive. The drop is dependent on the table s minimum and the number and type of players who chose to play at that table on that shift. To illustrate, ask if the drop results for blackjack Table 19 in Exhibit 12 (variance percentage of −28.52) suggest that the dealers on that table that day were doing something poorly (e.g., slow dealing) or dishonestly (stealing money before it was put into the drop box)? If managers wanted to check the details of what happened at that table that day, they could examine a videotape of the action. The results measures are more reliable, the larger the increment of the casino being measured (e.g., an entire shift vs. a single table) and the longer the periods of time involved; hence, the GCB s requirement to investigate, on a monthly basis, all statistical fluctuations by game type in excess of ±5% resulting from the comparison of the previous calendar year to that of the current month. Reasons for the deviations could include the activity of customers whose play materially affected the results of the month (the so called high roller on a hot streak explanation); the effects of any changes to the rules, types of wagers, or game play procedures; the effect of any errors or ... • 42. U.s. Security Interests On Egyptian Citizens Introduction Over the past five years Egypt has been in a growing state of turmoil. It has suffered two coup d états that has resulted in five different leaders, and a constant change in national aims. It temporarily lost US economic aid and military support, and the recent studies have brought to light the effect that global warming will have on Egyptian citizens in the near future. If you consider all these aspects together, you may assume that Egypt is in risk of soon becoming another problem state for U.S. security interests. However, if you take a closer look at the changes made in just the last two years, you can see that the opposite is true. This paper will argue that rather than being a hindrance to U.S. security interests, Egypt has the potential to be one of its greatest allies. To do this, it will first look at the overall importance of Egypt in the National Security s objectives of the United States. It will then review the history of US Egyptian Relations, Egypt s military involvement with the United States, and the recent political changes that are shaping Egypt s future. Then finally this paper will take a moment to exam the leadership of Egypt s newest President, Abdel Fatteh el Sisi. In doing so we will be able to see how Egypt is poised to be a key player, in accomplishing the U.S. security objectives, and gain a better understanding of why the U.S. must make it a priority to support Egypt s newly established leadership.
