The Spanish conquest of the Americas contributed to Jared Diamond's theory of guns, germs, and steel. During the conquest, the Spanish had technological advantages like guns and steel weapons that helped them defeat American civilizations. They also unwittingly introduced deadly germs like smallpox to which Native Americans lacked immunity, resulting in widespread epidemics and death. The smallpox outbreak that hit Tenochtitlan weakened the Aztec capital city and aided the Spanish conquest. Diamond's theory posits that differences in access to technology and resistance to diseases gave European societies advantages in conquering other parts of the world.

2. Hometown Morning By Thomas Kinkade
In 2000, Thomas Kinkade, the Painter of Light, created Hometown Morning, which is an oil painting
on canvas. This painting is part of the Hometown Memories collection as he paints different scenes
from his childhood growing up. Hometown Morning is a painting of a street in Placerville, California
that is full of life. It is a small community with people walking down the sidewalk and everyone and
everything just seems peaceful. Since the original has been sold, the last location of the painting was
at The Thomas Kinkade Museum in Monterey, California. The use of melancholic colors are shown as
it is a dim setting as the sun begins to rise over the city street. However, the only vibrant color used
throughout the piece is a bright gold yellow to illuminate the insides of the homes through the
windows. Kinkade s use of complementary colors are visible throughout. Different shades of yellow
and blue are seen as there is yellow in the sky and also blue on the street. There are more cold colors
than warm colors since the setting is in the morning and during the winter after it has rained. The
people are dressed in winter clothes and some even have scarves on. Kinkade uses directional line to
direct our attention to what is going on as our eyes go down the street. There is not an actual diagonal
line that makes the road smaller, but the use of grass and the sidewalks does the trick. The people in
the foreground are headed down the street leading the viewer s eyes head the same

4. Stereotypes In Pretty Woman
Pretty Woman is a rags to riches romantic comedy directed by Gary Marshall in 1990. It is a dark
warning tale about class and sex work in Los Angeles. The story centers on down on her luck
Hollywood prostitute Vivian Ward who is portrayed by Julia Roberts, who is hired by Edward Lewis,
portrayed by Richard Gere, a wealthy businessman who wants Vivian to be his escort for various
social upper class events and businesses and their emerging relationship during her stay with him.
The characters in the film goes as follows:
Edward Lewis, a rich corporate businessman and womanizer from New York. He is shown to be
assertive, prideful and egoistic man. Portrayed by Richard Gere.
Vivian Ward, a pretty woman who is a lady of the evening with a heart of gold but also independent
and assertive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The movie discusses till what extent does the depiction of sex and sexuality are acceptable in social
hierarchy. Vivian s empowerment is seen when she first steps in the car with Edward when he does not
have the enough knowledge about cars whereas Vivian does. Driving is stereotypically seen as an
masculine activity, hence this scene portrays an amazing reversal of gender roles. It is also seen how
Edward is taken a back by Vivian s confidence and independence, not traits stereotypically associated
with prostitutes. Pretty Woman
Questions the tolerance of modern society to display of sexuality, drawing parallels between sex and
power. Throughout the film, parallels are shown between Edward and Vivian s work despite the fact
that they are polar opposite social classes.

6. The Effects Of Osteoporosis On The Development Of The Disease
Osteoporosis is typically a silent disease characterized by low bone mass and decreased bone density
ending by fractures that occur following no or at least minimal trauma. Osteoporosis has multiple
pathophysiologic mechanisms that interact in the development of the disease (1, 2). The disease
simply results from the imbalance between bone resorption and bone formation. Increased bone
resorption or decreased bone formation may lead to osteoporosis. Bone is made of collagen and
mineral components. The former gives bone its flexibility and energy absorbing capability, while the
later gives bone its stiffness and strength. Imbalances can impair bone quality and result in reduced
bone strength and subsequently fractures.
Bone mass increases ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So the bone mass in older adults equals the peak bone mass achieved by age 18 25 minus the amount
of bone subsequently lost.
The process of bone remodeling may be considered a preventive maintenance mechanism that
maintains a healthy skeleton because of continually removing older bone and replacing it with new
bone. When this balance is altered, resulting in greater bone removal than replacement, bone loss
occurs (5).
Menopause and advancing age play the main role in this imbalance. With the onset of menopause, the
rate of bone remodeling increases.
Oestrogen deficiency
Accelerated bone loss can be affected by hormonal status as occurs in perimenopausal women.
Gonadal deficiency can impact elderly men and women and can be secondary to various disease states
and medications. Bone loss in women accelerates rapidly in the first years after menopause.
Osteoblasts, osteocytes, and osteoclasts all express estrogen receptors.
Estrogen deficiency can affect bone density by(5):
1 Up regulates osteoclast progenitor cells.
2 Cause increased recruitment of higher numbers of preosteoclasts.
3 Increased activity and lifespan of mature osteoclasts.
4 Estrogen affects bones indirectly through cytokines and local growth factors

7. Spinoza s Philosophy Of God
Spinoza s most famous and provocative idea is that God is not the creator of the world, but that the
world is part of God. According to him, God is an absolutely infinite being, that is, substance
consisting of infinite attributes, each of which expresses eternal and infinite essence. Spinoza believed
that everything that exists is God. However, he did not hold the converse view that God is no more
than the sum of what exists. God had infinite qualities, of which we can perceive only two, thought
and extension. Hence God must also exist in dimensions far beyond those of the visible world. He
derived an ethic from fundamental principles, which were closely linked to his view of God or nature
as everything. The highest good, he asserted, was knowledge of God, which was capable of bringing
freedom from tyranny by the passions, freedom from fear, resignation to destiny, and true blessedness.

8. The Crucifixion Of Jesus Christ
Through Matthew 27:11 66 it is evident that the governor Pontius Pilate plays a crucial role in the
crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Scholars throughout history have provided support to see Pilate as
positive, negative, or neutral role in the retelling of the crucifixion. Warren Carter is one of the many
scholars who have taken note of Pilate s role in history and within the source Pontius Pilate. Portraits
of a Roman Governor Carter argues that Pilate is a negative character. He goes as far to claim that
Pilate was one to actively seek conflict. While Carter argues that Pilate s role is one of negativity, I
would argue, that through a socio culture view, that Pilate is not a negative figure, but an ambivalent
one, due to his lack to enforce. In order to fully understand the story of the crucifixion it is crucial that
we take a step into the story. We should view it as a doorway and it is important that we go through it
in our imagination, in order to actually understand what is happening. We must ask our self what info
is needed to make the story authentic? This is crucial for us to ask so that we can fully dive into the
story and truly understand everything it has to teach us.
Stepping into the passage the first verse that reveals Pilate as an ambivalent role is in Matthew 27:14.
Pilate was amazed that Jesus didn t defend himself. He recognized the obvious plot against Jesus and
wanted to let him go, but Pilate was under pressure from Rome to keep peace in his territory.

9. Pros And Cons Of Eating Locally Essay
Having fresh fruits and vegetables locally would be nice, to have refreshing, raw, unprocessed food
instead of food that s been sitting in the store for weeks. That s what locavores are all about. But
unfortunately, thats not reality. And the chances of everyone going out of there way to find these
locally grown foods, is utterly ridiculous.
Locavores spread the word about becoming a locavore so eating locally grown food, getting more
nutritional value and all these things. However, they don t foucs on the negative side this, including

Some people may believe because a company grows locally, they ll have more inventory. However
that s not the case because the problem here invloves the way food miles are calculated. ( source C)
For instance, if a truck if shipping it s a couple thousand vegetables a couple thousand miles away, it
would be the same as a local company sending a hundred vegetables a hundred miles away. Therefore
decreasing the profit they could have made if they weren t selling just locally.
Three hundred and eighteen million people spread all across the nation, it s nearly impossible to have
locally grown food near all these people. Not everyone has the advantage of being close to a locally
grown farmers market, so what do those people do? Drive hundreds of miles to the farmers market
when there s Wal mart only ten miles away? Of course not, because although it may be fresher, That
doesn t mean it s necessary (source B) People can get their food much cheaper nearby and not spend
nearly as much gas.

10. Education And Economic Inequality
In the United States, people like to believe everyone has an equal chance at success. This emphasis on
self effort perpetuates the belief that people control their own social standing. However, sociologists
recognize that social stratification is a society wide system that makes inequalities apparent (Griffiths
et al., 2016, p.188). There are many factors that drive social inequality; globalization and immigration,
technology advances, the family you were born into, and even the education you received in pre
school. I feel the most important contributing factor is economic inequality. I consider this to be true
not only for the United States, but globally as well.
Both wealthy and poor classes, and all those in between would benefit from living in a more
economically equitable society. Statistics show correlation of an increase in overall physical health
and longevity, a decrease in infant mortality rates, and an increase in mental health in individuals
living in societies with higher economic equality. There is also substantial evidence linking greater
equality to better social relationships within societies there is less violence, and a greater sense of
overall trust.
I believe addressing education, implementing new tax policies, and making fundamental changes to
the way Americans think about success will help reduce economic inequalities. If we can achieve this
in our country, economic societies around the globe will all benefit.
It is widely agreed that

11. The Importance Of Sportsmanship In Sports
Sports, for thousands of years, have been a wonderful means for humankind to exercise one of our
most basic instincts: competition with our fellow humans. Surrounding all types of sports is the idea of
sportsmanship, the respect and ethical behavior shown to all participants of a contest. Sports fans
around the world have all seen their share of sore losers, bad winners, and generally horrifying
displays of poor sportsmanship. Yet, in all sports, there remain certain dogmas that only the most
poorly behaved sportsman would dare to violate. The spirit of the game, in many cases, is far more
important than the outcome of the match, and a true competitor understands this. This is why many of
our most beloved athletes are not always the most talented or outstanding performers; it is those who
play with the purest heart, for the sake of the team, and with respect for all opponents. Truly
transcendent athletes are those that are able to combine this intangible trait with world class skill.
There are greater lessons to be learned from this besides being well liked in the sporting community.
Sports, and by extension, the athletes who play them, are able to go beyond cultural differences; surely
there are stylistic differences between countries and regions, but in general, sports are played the same
wherever you go. Similarly, all fans of a sport are able to appreciate incredible athletic feats or truly
classy displays of sportsmanship. Simply put, sports have a way of bringing people together. In a day
in age when settling cultural differences is of utmost importance, turning more towards sports is a
reasonably viable way to bring the world closer together.
The best example of a sport bringing two societies together today is the case of cricket contests
between India and Pakistan. Tension and hostility have marked the relationship between the two
countries for much of the last century. What has become known as cricket diplomacy has been able to
bring an air of friendliness to talks between leaders. In 2011, the former president of Pakistan, Pervez
Musharraf was quoted on the benefits of cricket diplomacy. He said, Firstly, I think it can be used as
an ice breaker in case the two opposing groups leadership is not

12. The Goals in Issues of Obamacare
The new health care reform law in America, Obamacare, increases the quality, availability, and
affordability of private and public health insurance to 44 million uninsured. It also is working to curb
the growth in healthcare spending in the U.S. which has been rising at an unsustainable rate.
Obamacare was passed in the senate on December 24, 2009, and passed in the house on March 21,
2010. It was signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010, and upheld in the
supreme court on June 28, 2012. The concept behind Obamacare was the individual mandate, which
requires that most Americans obtain health insurance by the end of 2014 or they will have to pay a tax
penalty. This concept was first brought about by The Heritage Foundation as an alternative for the
single payer initiative, Medicare . This reform wasn t proposed or expanded until it was implemented
in Massachusetts by Governor Romney. During the 2008 elections, healthcare was a booming subject
for the Democratic party.
The Affordable Care Act includes measures to eliminate pre existing conditions, stop insurance
companies from dropping people when they are sick or unhealthy, expand the Medicaid, and create
state specific health insurance marketplaces to allow those who are in the middle or lower classes so
they can shop for free or low costing insurance. After these several changes, President Barak Obama

He states, Three quarters of the 10 million students enrolled in America s four year colleges and
universities will work as interns at least once before graduating ... Between one third and half will get
no compensation for their efforts (499 500). This evidence is relevant since it clearly supports the
author s claim that colleges allow unpaid internship. This may not necessarily imply that the colleges
are bad, but this clearly shows the high occurrence of such cases. It shows the high number of students
who do not get paid while working as interns. The information was taken from established research
institutes, therefore the evidence is credible. The College Employment Research Institute conducts an

College Employment Research Institute at Michigan State University ), while the Intern Bridge is the
nation s premier college recruiting, consulting and research firm (http://www.internbridge.com/).

Every year I go on vacation to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for a week. We usually leave a few days

just me and my grandma and grandpa, but after that year some more of my family started to come

we got to her house my grandpa was in the motor home and ready to go. We loaded the rest of the
bags into the motor home and then we were on our way. After a long 5 hour drive (that I slept during

15. Similarities Between Tattoos And Motion Pictures
Tattoos versus Motion Picture
Arguably what comes to mind when a person is intrigued by a tattoo, is curiosity behind the purpose
of it, and most importantly the reasoning. Like a motion picture or short film, there has to be a story
behind it, otherwise there would be confusion. Although tattoos and motion pictures both share many
similarities in story lines, genres, and depth, they have a plethora of differences.
Undoubtedly, these two concepts share story lines. Moreover, the process in development is very
different. Tattoos have a story line that is commonly very sentimental, the meaning is real and deep,
which is why an individual permanently places such kinds of expression on their skin. Although, not
all tattoos are this way, some tattoos might not have any meaning and have been placed upon the skin
for no logical reason. Tattoos have a very different development process, and often mean more to
individuals than movies. Often times when someone is watching a preview to a new movie, their
involvement falls deeper the more they find themselves fascinated by the story line. The story line is
what draws them in, and the more it relates personally, or strikes their imagination on a pathway of
fascination, the more likely they are to continue watching that genre of movie. Therefore, movies only
come to an in mind standpoint, although it has a story line, the display is not nearly as permanent as a
tattoo would be considered.
Arguably both areas have increasingly changed

16. Essay On The Dark Lady In Shakespeare s Sonnet
William Shakespeare s comprehensive imagery and details contribute to a perfect representation of
Elizabethan court life. Strangely, little is known about the true identity of the prolific writer. Through
countless conspiracy theories and historians digging through records and examining every word used,
Shakespeare is simply invisible. Historians believe identifying Shakespeare s characters in his
masterpieces will bring them a step closer to his true identity. Trouble is, Shakespeare s characters also
are conflicting and this creates a never ending cycle of theories. Since most sonnets, which were read
in sequence, have been thought to be autobiographical, Shakespeare s Sonnets create a bit of hope. In

He accepts her essentially, because of her mediocracy. At times, he is outraged by her additional
lovers, but he still is wrapped around her finger. He blames himself for staying with her even though
the relationship is toxic and copes with her infidelity. Shakespeare turns the traditional feeling of a
love sonnet to that of hatred, resentment, and lust. It seems more in line with the reality and harshness
of falling in love, as opposed to the traditional googly eyed admiration of a lover. Since Shakespeare
avoids this fictional theme, he gives readers a good reason to believe his Sonnets may actually be true.
In Shakespeare s Sonnets, the pain experienced emotionally and physically contributes to the realistic
nature of his words. Specifically addressing the Dark Lady, the speaker expresses a more mature love
unlike the relationship between him and the young man. Readers are warned about the dangers of lust
in the love triangle, but the speaker is content with the Dark Lady s affairs rather than the young man
s. In Sonnet 138, the speaker says, On both sides thus is simple truth suppressed/But wherefore say
not I that I am old?/Oh love s best habit is in seeming trust (8 10). In their relationship, love is
therefore a mutual understanding of deception. The Dark Lady ignores that he is old and considers
him to be young and the speaker ignores that she is cheating on him by not bringing up her
faithfulness. What ties these two characters together is

17. Black Ivory Research Paper
Outside of the potential cooperation problems between local and national governments, there is also
the cultural issue that many farmers and villagers do not respect elephants. Because elephants are
creatures of habit, they follow the same migration paths that their ancestors have for decades. Due to
the increased agriculture in African villages, elephants often cross right through small farms or
villages, destroying crops and small structures. Many African villagers who have had these encounters
with elephants do not understand the Western fascination and obsession with saving an animal they
perceive as a large, more destructive cockroach.
Another issue is the perspective of those in Asia. Ivory has always been a symbol of wealth in Asia.
Those who can afford to buy full tusks often commission experienced artists to carve intricate scenes

preservation of tradition is important, another medium should be used in order to create these art

18. Water Pollution Vs Stormwater Pollution
Abstract Stormwater pollution impacts the quality of both the environment and human health. It
degrades natural resources, threatens economic prosperity and poses health and safety risks to
communities. Stormwater pollution is the result of urban and industrial runoff getting washed into the
storm drains, seriously affecting all of our nation s water sources. Federal regulations and pollution
prevention measures can significantly influence the quality of our water, our environment and our
health. Introduction Stormwater pollution is a significant environmental and public health issue.
Stormwater pollution has substantial impacts on water quality, posing risks to the health and safety of
residential communities while degrading natural resources and threatening economical revenues.
Stormwater pollution is created when trash, waste and other contaminants are washed into storm
drains. When mixed with rainwater, this toxic mixture flows untreated into local creeks, rivers and the
ocean, polluting waterways and damaging natural resources. This paper will analyze various historical
and regulatory aspects of water quality, discuss some of the major sources of stormwater pollution and
look at the various ways stormwater pollution prevention techniques can be implemented to improve
the quality of our water. Point Source vs. Non point Source Pollution First, it is important to
distinguish between point source and non point source (NPS) pollution.

During this [time], [a now] retired Marine Corps General Smedley Darlington Butler was approached
by two members of the American Legion: Bill Doyle, and Gerald C. MacGuire. This Legion operated
under the guise of a veteran s rights society. The men, initially approached Butler to speak at a nearing
meeting; they explained that they were hoping that Butler s speech would persuade the others
members that they needed to remove the current management something that could be called
conditioning or a sort of test. Even though Butler listened to what they had to say, he had refused on
the grounds that he did not want to interfere. Coming up with a new plan the two men approached
Butler again, this time discreetly offering him $100,000 in bank deposits. After Butler arrived, in the
spectator gallery the Legionnaires were to leap to their feet demanding he speak. MacGuire then
produced the prepared speech he wanted Butler to give. The speech given was suspicious sounding in
nature, it was to convince the veterans, who were due a second bonus payment, that if they were not
paid in money backed by gold, their bonuses would be compromised. Another attempt to condition
and/or test on Butler to see if he could do their bidding. These men underestimated or pretty much
ignored Butler s support for Roosevelt and his patriotism, which, for a fact, wasn t a secret.
After many meetings MacGuire eventually

Who I am today As a one grows up, you can t help it but dream of becoming the craziest things. I saw
myself becoming a lot of things in life. Although, I was never able to stick to one thing and kept going
with it. I was always changing my mind up about what I wanted to be in life, what I saw myself as an
adult. I wasn t the smartest in school but I my grades always spoke for themselves and I always tended
to learn from my experiences and others peoples as well. I thought about becoming a law enforcement

become those things because I loved watching them on T.V. and sort of saw cooking more as a hobby

Summary
Bella Swan is a 17 year old girl who has lived in Phoenix, Arizona, with her mother, her entire life.
After her mother remarries, she moves to Forks, Washington, to live with her father. Although she is
very shy, she seems to make friends very easily at her new high school. On her first day of school, she
takes a seat next to a handsome, yet extremely reserved boy named Edward Cullen. As soon as Bella
sits down, Edward gets up and leaves, trying his hardest to avoid her. Bella finds his behavior
completely strange, but eventually Edward warms up to her, and the two begin a close friendship. One
day, Bella is walking through the school parking lot. All of a sudden, a car pulls up out of nowhere,
heading straight for Bella. Edward suddenly appears, stopping the car with little force, using only one
hand, and completely amazing Bella with his incredible strength and speed. Still curious, Bella asks a
family friend, Jacob, about Edward and the rest of the Cullen family. Jacob reveals that the Cullen
family members are all seen as outcasts, as everyone believes them to be vampires. Bella ends up

24. Theories Of Criminology And Criminal Behavior
In the early to mid 1800s there were a few perspectives introduced regarding how to determine which
individuals were more likely to commit criminal behavior. These perspectives were made to identify
and separate the more superior individuals from the inferior individuals. One of the first examples of
this belief was brought forth by craniometry. Craniometry is the belief that the size of a person s brain
and the skull can tell a person s superiority or inferiority in relation to certain racial groups. During
that time it was believed that the size of a person s skull directly reflected the size of a person s brain.
The larger the brain the more intelligent or superior the person was. Many of the studies done by
Craniometrists showed that people of White European descent were superior to people of other ethnic
or racial groups. These studies were deemed biased and unethical because the researcher s knew which
brains and skulls belonged to which racial groups before the measurements were taken.
During the mid to late 1800 s Cesare Lombroso based his scientific theories of criminology on Charles
Darwin s theory of natural selection. Charles Darwin suggested that humans evolved from primitive
beings and that humans later evolved based on their ability to adapt to their environment. The humans
that are unable to adapt to their environment die off or become inferior. Lombroso believed that
certain individuals or groups of people were born to commit crime. In terms of

26. Led Night Light Research Paper
Options In Emergency Lighting During A Power Outage
When your power goes out at night, it can be a dangerous situation if you have to stumble around in
the dark to find a flashlight or candle. If you ve not used a flashlight in a long time, you may not even
know where it is. This makes it difficult to get to your kids in a hurry when they might be afraid or
roaming around the house looking for you. A solution is to install lights that automatically come on
when the power goes out. Here are some options to consider.
LED Night Lights With Battery Power
LED bulbs are ideal in battery powered lights because they last a long time and don t use much
energy. You can buy lights that plug into an outlet and come on automatically when the power shuts
off. While these lights don t light up the entire room, they illuminate the floor area like a traditional
night light or lamp does so you can walk around your home safely. Some of these night lights double
as a remote control that will turn on other lights not plugged into a socket.
You may want to mount a battery powered LED light to the ceiling so it will cast light downward on a
table or kitchen counter. It s a good idea to have an emergency light near each ... Show more content

You might want a light like this that doubles as a flashlight. It sits in a charger to act as a night light on
a nightly basis, and when the power goes out, you can grab it for portable use as a flashlight. You can
by rechargeable lights shaped like lanterns or bars that give off much more light than a small night
light. These usually don t last as long since they use more power, but you can turn them off to
conserve power if you need to. The disadvantage to relying on lights you have to recharge is if they go
dead before the power comes on, then you won t have any lights. Battery powered lights could be a
better choice but only if you have an ample supply of

27. How Is Diction Used In Woman At Point Zero
Money is typically a neutral, necessary item that makes a big impact on one s everyday life. To make
their points, authors often add a certain connotation to the people that use the money, rather than
money itself. Nawal El Saadawi describes a society in which many use money for selfish reasons,
often suppressing other groups, like women, in the process, which represents a negative attitude
toward the people that use the money. In her novel, Woman at Point Zero, Nawal El Saadawi
frequently mentions the appearance of physical money through linked scenes to illustrate that,
although one s power in society often dictates other people s perception of him/her, he/she should still
attempt to gain respect through hard work and attitude.
First, Saadawi ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, she demonstrates an epiphany when Firdaus rediscovered the truth that I had already
discovered many years before... (134). By connecting the two scenes through a reference to the time
that Firdaus first held money when she was younger, Saadawi creates this epiphany because Firdaus
makes a realization that she does not need money for other people to respect. If Firdaus had kept that
money, she would be like her younger self, relying on other men to support her. But since Saadawi
believes otherwise, she conveys through linked scenes that one should not have to rely on other people
s money to gain respect from others. Since these are linked scenes, any major differences Saadawi
makes are most likely deliberate. One of these changes between the scenes is Firdaus attitude toward
money. In the first scene, she is happy and prideful about having money, however, in this case she is
so disgusted by it that she tears it up. Firdaus perception of money did not change, but it was her
perception of what money did to others and herself. Therefore, Saadawi creates a bitter tone by
criticizing the use money as a means for people to control those who are not as

29. History of Synesthesia Essay examples
History of Synethesia
July 11,2006 History of Synesthesia
Synesthesia has been known to medicine for almost three hundred years. After interest peaked
between 1860 and 1930, it was forgotten, because psychology and neurology were premature sciences.
Psychological theory was full with associations, and concepts of nervous tissue were insignificant.
Subjective experience, such as synesthesia, was believed not a proper subject for scientific study.(pg3)
Synesthesia s history is interesting but also important if we are to understand its neurological basis,
because the word was used to describe diverse phenomena in different eras. Central to the initial
approach in 1980 was a sharp separation of synesthesia as a sensual perception ... Show more content

There is an important clue in his famous dictum, stop thinking! that relates to one of synesthesia s
implications in reversing the roles of reason and emotion. Kandinsky grasped that creativity is an
experience, not an abstract idea, and that a mind that incessantly analyzes what is there impedes that
experience.
(Kandinsky s 1910 adjuration was, lend your ears to music, open your eyes to painting, and . . . stop
thinking! Just ask yourself whether the work has enabled you to walk about into a hitherto unknown
world. If the answer is yes, what more do you want? )
People were intrigued with the notion that synesthesia seemed to have a direct link to the unconscious.
With time, however, attention turned to objective behavior that could be quantified or measured by
machines. Humans became subjects, the individual was abandoned, and the mind temporarily became
a black box.
Mechanistic explanations have been plentiful throughout synesthesia s history. The notion of crossed
wires turns up repeatedly. As early as 1704, Sir Isaac Newton struggled to

30. How Did Vincent Van Gogh Influence The World
Vincent was an important figure in American History because he helped inspire many great artists
know today. To this day he is described as the Greatest Dutch Painter as well as a strong influential
that inspired many great artists like Gauguin, Pissarro, Monet, and Bernard. If you hear a voice within
in you say you cannot paint , then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced . This was one of
Van Gogh s inspirational quotes stating that everything in this world can be overcome and how you
can do anything you put your mind to. Anna Carbentus Van Gogh gave birth to her first son, Vincent

Van Gogh was taken to a nearby hospital and his doctors sent for Theo, who arrived to find his brother
sitting up in bed and smoking a pipe. They spent the next couple of days talking and then van Gogh
asked Theo to take him home. On July 29, 1890, Vincent van Gogh died in his brother s arms at age
37. Theo, who was suffering from syphilis and was emotionally unstable after his brother s death, died
six months later in a Dutch asylum. He was buried in Utrecht, but in 1914 Theo s wife, Johanna, who
was a dedicated supporter of van Gogh s works, had Theo s body reburied in the Auvers cemetery next
to Vincent. Johanna then collected as many of van Gogh s paintings as she could, but discovered that
many of them had been destroyed or lost, van Gogh s own mother having thrown away crates full of
his art. On March 17, 1901, 71 of van Gogh s paintings were displayed at a show in Paris, and his
fame subsequently grew enormously. His mother lived long enough to see her son hailed as an artist
and a genius. Today, Vincent van Gogh is considered the greatest Dutch painter after Rembrandt. He
completed more than 2,100 works, consisting of 860 oil paintings and more than 1,300 watercolors,
drawings and sketches. Several of his paintings rank among the most expensive in the world; Irises
sold for a record $53.9 million, and his Portrait of Dr. Gachet sold for $82.5

31. An Analysis Of The Scottsboro Trials
The final inspiration for the book is the Scottsboro trials. The Scottsboro trials were a series of court
cases for nine black young men, who were falsely accused of raping two white women (Anderson).
The grueling cases lasted for many years. The verdict of one of the first cases was the men were
guilty. The case eventually made its was up to the Supreme Court where more evidence was
discovered. Which was that the men were riding a train car to Alabama in 1931, while the women
were on a completely separate car (Anderson). The men were claimed to be guilty again. One of the
women on the train stepped forward, and stated that her and her friend were prostitutes illegally
coming into Alabama. They said that they were raped because they wanted

The Cheyennes were forced out of their units by the government and gathered within the North and
the South. Also, it was important they follow the buffalo and kept them close to other tribes that spoke
Algonquian language spoken by locals, along with Plains Sign language. The Cheyenne tribe was
