Definition of Inclusive Education
• Inclusive Education refers to the processes of providing
qualitative education and continually upgrade to match the
actual condition ,ability and the needs of all variety
learners. Including Children With Disabilities, Children
From Ethnic Minority,CAFAG and Girls.
• Inclusive Education is Important because it help the children with
different backgrounds and abilities.
INTRODUCTION TO DISABILITY
• Definition of Person of Disabilities?
People with Disabilities are those whose bodies are impaired or loss of function
and limbs of the body,mind,cognition or Intelligence.
 The Meaning of Disability:
Physical capacity has been limited or having problems with daily mobility or
performing activities in the family, community and society. Due to deformation,
impairment, loss of one or many limbs of the body, mind and brain; comparing to
those who have normal full function or capacity of mobility in the society.
CAUSES AND TYPES OF DISABILITY
Causes of disability:
• 1. Congenital (genetic)
• 2. Disorder
• 3. Accident
• Types of disabilities:
• 1. Movement disability/ physical disability
• 2. Intelligence disability/ behavior
• 3. Speech disability
BARRIERS OF CHILDREN WITH
DISABILITIES
Physical Barriers
These concern the limit of environmental school facilities to support children with
impairments.
 Attitudinal Barrier
These are the attitudes which the people show towards children with impairments.
 Financial Barrier
These are the limit in finances to support the children with disabilities in school
TEACHING CHILDREN WHO HAVE SPECIAL NEEDS/CHILDREN
WITH DISABILITIES
TEACHING CHILDREN WITH HEARING IMPAIRMENT
- Use very simple words and sentences together with gestures and illustrative pictures to
help enhancing their understanding about what you are talking. Children with hearing
problem could learn from seeing more than listening even though both are being applied.
- Pair up the students who have hearing problem to seat with the one who has not so that
he/she could help to find the correct pages, review your instructions and so on.
- Promote the students with hearing problem to watch and listen to other students
answering your questions
- Use Sign Language to those who are deaf
TEACHING CHILDREN WITH VISUAL IMPAIRMENT
• Write big letters on the board or LCD projector.
• Read out loud what is written on the board for students
• Prepare the materials which could help students to read easier such as: printing materials
with big/wide size.
• Provide braille and stylus for the blind to write.
• The low Vision should use magnifying glasses for reading.
• Prepared Enlarged Photos so that they can see clearly
TEACHING CHILDREN WITH COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENT
• Show the students what you want them to do, instead of giving instruction orally.
• Use very simple words when instructing and check if students understand you or not.
• Activities should be designed step by step or break down in accordance with the
learning objective
• Lets the kids start with what they can do, before moving to next step let’s re-do the
easy tasks once more time to make sure they don’t have problems; for example:
drawing circle shape, kids able to color the circle shape before moving to next step to
make the circle shape by connecting the points, then copying the circle shape from
elsewhere and so on.
• Congratulate and encourage them for what they have successfully done.
TEACHING CHILDREN WITH PHYSICAL IMPAIRMENT
 Provide ramps for the Children Using Wheel Chair to access the classroom
 Give them sits in front so that they can observe and be attended to by the
teacher easily.
 Train them to use legs to write if the hands can not function
 Provide them with pen holders if one cannot use the pen very well
CASE STUDY OF ONE CHILD IN YAMBIO
Jimmy is a 17 year old in Yambio, He was born with paraplegia, a kind of
impairment that paralyses the lower limbs and so cannot function hence cannot be
able to move physically. He was not attending school since his parents considered
him a cursed child and so cannot go to school. But at the age of 9 years with the
help of Change Agency Organization a Community Based Organization in Yambio
supporting Children with Disabilities get access to Education. He was able to enroll
at St. Mary Primary School, Yambio where he is currently Pupil in Primary 8.He is
happy at school because he always interacts with his colleagues without
segregation. Red Cross provided him with mobility device (Tricycle) that supports
him move to school and home. He is performing very well and is hoping to be a
Technical Engineer in Future.
INCLUSIVE EDUCATION ASSISTIVE DEVICES
