Kant And Kant s View On Life And Most
If you do what you need ,your surviving. If you do what you want, your living . Philosophers Mill and
Kant both share similarities and differences on their view on life and most of all on the meaning of a
good life. Mill bases morality on the principle of utility which states , that actions or behaviors are
right in so far as they promote happiness or pleasure , wrong as they tend to produce unhappiness or
pain . While Kant bases morality on the categorical imperative which is, an unconditional moral
obligation that is blinding in all circumstances and is not dependent on a person s inclination or
purpose . Mill and Kant both join in their proposed first rule of profound quality a sort of all
inclusiveness, for Kant s situation that of confining one s standards of activity to people who it can
serve to be a widespread law of nature, for Mill s situation considering the outcomes of a sort of
activity for all people. Both perceive transitional good guidelines , called by Kant obligations and by
Mill subordinate standards . Accordingly the 2 philosophers have a 2 step origination of moral
thought. A basic level that offered moderate good standards against the first guideline of profound
quality and a performance stage that allows for settles on a choice in a specific case on the premise of
the important good principles. The obligations to others perceived by Kant relate to the subordinate

The Rise Of The Papacy
The Rise of the Papacy
Introduction
The birth or the beginnings of the Papacy is a rather difficult task to really nail down to a specific
time, place or person and also the growth of the Papacy was a rather slow and gradual process. In this
modern age Rome has been associated with the birth place of the Papacy but history shows that
Constantine moved the capital of the Roman Empire to Constantinople in the 4th century. In
Constantinople the father of the church was referred to as the Pope. The word Pope simply means
father, and in early times was used to refer to any important and respected bishop. In Rome the father
of the church was referred to as the Bishop of Rome. It is the purpose of this paper to present evidence
of the individuals that gave rise to the Papacy in the centuries between the 6th and 9th.
How and Why the Papacy in Rome became the Center of Power There are several contributing factors
that prompted the rise of the Papacy during the time name mentioned above, but the one event that
prompted this rise was the fall of the Roman Empire. When Rome was attacked by the Lombards, the
Goths and the Huns it left a trail of destruction and uncertainty. Also during this time Christian
heresies were running rampant throughout the state. The effort of Constantine and Roman Church
leaders is when the Papacy really started to gain ground and the rise to power. As historical evidence
has shown, Constantine relocated the capital of the Roman Empire to Constantinople

Anatomy of an Orchid Flower
Anatomy of an Orchid Flower
Despite the astonishing diversity found in the thousands of wild species and man made hybrids, orchid
flowers show an unmistakable family resemblance. Orchid flowers are generally bilaterally
symmetrical only a single imaginary line can be drawn through a flower to create a mirror image.
A typical orchid flower has three sepals (the outer segments that protect the bud before the flower
opens), alternating with three petals. The petals and sepals may be similar or not, showy or
inconspicuous.
The middle petal, which is always opposite the column, is usually quite different from the others.
Called the lip or labellum, it comes in a variety of shapes, depending on the species, and can be wavy
or fringed or covered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So in appealing to sex, these orchids limit their potential pollinators, which would seem to be a
reproductive disadvantage.
Despite the apparent drawback, sexual deception has evolved several times in different types of
orchids. So there must be some selective advantage, and researchers Salvatore Cozzolino and
Giovanni Scopece of the University of Naples Federico II, Steven Johnson of University of KwaZulu
Natal (South Africa) and Florian Schiestl of the University of Zürich appear to have figured out what
it is.
Schiestl and his team observed populations of 31 orchid species with varying pollination strategies in
Italy and Western Australia. They measured the amount of pollen that was taken from each orchid, and
the amount of pollen that made it to its intended destination another orchid of the same species.
They found that populations of sexually deceptive orchids had higher pollen transport efficiency than
the species with multiple pollinators. In other words, a higher percentage of the pollen that was taken
from sexually deceptive orchids actually made it to another orchid of the same species. The orchids
with multiple pollinators had more pollen taken from their flowers, but more of that pollen was lost
dropped to the ground or deposited in flowers of the wrong species.
So it appears that specializing with

How Hockey Began In Montreal In The 1980 s
How Hockey Began
Hockey began in Montreal in the 1800 s. It began with a stick a rock and a frozen pond, the game
started spreading around like wildfire, things were being added and changed with every group of
people trying to create there own version of hockey but in the 1850 s the first games of ice hockey
were played, and in the 1870 s, the first set of ice hockey rules were written by a group of students at
McGill University in Montreal.
These rules set up the use of a puck replacing a ball and decided the number of players to be nine per
team. In the 1880 s the first organization of the first amateur hockey league was created. Over the next
several years, ice hockey s popularity spread over all of Canada. It was around 1893 that ice

The Cellist Of Sarajevo Character Analysis
Revitalization Through Beauty The world refuses to do anything other than overlook the disruption of
beauty in our life. In that, the importance of beauty would be much lesser without tragedy for
comparison, for that beauty is only used to distract the world from what truly is happening beyond the
safety for our home. In the novel The Cellist Of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway the idea of beauty is
given to us through the melody played by the cellist in an area where a mortar fell and killed 22
innocent people. With that in sight, he brought sentience and tranquility through music all while
surrounded by death and destruction. In the midst of tragedy, the author used the music played by the
cellist to show how the character Arrow is affected and how the ruins of life and broken dreams can be
again be restored by a sense of hope and revitalization. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Arrow, this also happened but in a different fashion. She locked her old self away to protect
herself from the barbarity war. The comforting sound of the cellist playing Albinoni s Adagio brings
Arrow back to a simpler time, a time when she didn t have to live with a rifle slung over her shoulder.
Her mother is lifting her up, spinning her around and laughing. The warm tongue of a dog licks her
arm. (p.75) In this excerpt, it shows how the music sent her back, deep into her subconscious to the
girl she once was. The music from the cellist reminded her of who she really is underneath the rigid
exterior a happy, careless young

Snowfall On Mars
Mars has been a planet scientists have been interested in for many reasons, for many years. In Mars
has nighttime snow storms , Ashley Yeager furthers her studies on Mars by focusing on the possibility
of night time snow on Mars. Yeager explains how snowfall on Mars could even occur through
scientific evidence.
Yeager states that satellites showed that snow covered the Martian poles in 2008 and
NASA s Pheonix lander detected snow falling below a nighttime water ice cloud in 2008. This also
being the first time scientist have seen snowfall on Mars. According to Eager in the beginning scientist
had believed that snowfall occurred the same way it did on Earth; however, the gravity and water
vapor on Mars compared to Earth doesn t match up. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their findings showed that fast falling snow could occur on cold nights. Unlike on Earth when water
ice particles grow into the snow and then fall, low temperature cool water ice clouds, creating strong
winds that push water ice crystals toward the ground, creating fast falling snow.
Yeager had a clear objective and enough evidence to back up her findings, while also leaving room for
scientists to continue researching. Each statement was backed up with enough scientific evidence for a
reader to understand the purpose of the article. For example, she broke down how the snow being able
to fall at the same speed it does on Earth, through another scientist research. There was no quantitative
or qualitative data because all the data was research based and no need for statistical analysis. I don t
believe Yeager could ve done anything else to make this article better. She provided enough
information to support her objective while still allowing the research to continue for other scientists. A
reader who came across would have to do further research on how snowfall could occur on Mars
unless they wanted a deeper explanation. The use of the internet was helpful since that is how I found

A Case Of Statutes Trumping Common Law
This is a case of statutes trumping Common Law. The seller would allege that there was a mistake in
the advertisement and that, as advertisements are not offer, no contract was formed. This is a mistake,
as the facts demonstrate; New Jersey Vehicle Code § 4251 trumps the common law practices of offers
and mistakes. Lonergan v. Scolnick tells us that advertisements are simply manifestations of
willingness to enter into a bargain, but are not meant to justify another person in understanding that
his assent to that bargain is invited and will conclude it, as offers do (Restatement 2nd §24).
Therefore, the advertisement is not considered to be an offer to sell the vehicle at the stated price.
Under Common Law, ABC Motors would be able to refuse to sell the car at the mistaken price of
$25,000. However, in New Jersey, advertisements for the sale of automobiles are governed by a
statute, New Jersey Vehicle Code § 4251, stating, A dealer of automobiles in this state may not decline
or refuse to sell an automobile to any person at an advertised price while the vehicle remains unsold,
unless the advertisement states the advertised total price is good for only a specified period of time
and that time has elapsed. As this statute would trump the common law practice of advertisements not
being offers, ABC Motors advertisement is considered an offer that cannot be revoked while the
vehicle remains unsold and the expiration of the offer has not lapsed. After receiving the

education is to help people live to be successful in their present and future life. Ruby Bridges and

purpose of education and why everyone deserves to have a chance to educate themselves . In addition,
they both inspires the realization is that education is for all. When comparing the achievements of

Emerging Infectious Diseases Essay
Emerging Infectious Diseases
Emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) are the third leading cause of death in the United States and the
first leading cause of death worldwide (3). Thus, should EID s be considered an oncoming threat to
human existence or is it God s response to our unbiblical stewardship of the Earth or is it nature s
practical solution to overpopulation.
Past EIDs
Since the beginning of time, human existence has been overwhelmed by threatening diseases. To
begin with, leprosy and other highly contagious skin diseases affected humanity as early as in the days
of the Old Testament. Due to its rapidly infectious manner and its degrading and dehumanizing
results, skin diseased victims were often ostracized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1994, Gloucestershire, England was assailed by the infamous and unstoppable flesh eating bacteria
or Necrotizing Fasciitis, which virtually devoured its victims to death (2). In March of 1996, 2.6
million cows were slaughtered in the United Kingdom in an effort to rid themselves of the invasion of
the Mad Cow disease. Another term for Mad Cow disease is Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy
(BSE), which is a disease observed solely in cattle. Mad Cow disease or BSE is transmitted to humans
via the consumption of infected beef resulting in a fatal human brain disorder known as Creutzfeldt
Jacob (CJD). As a result of this British beef scare 32 people died of CJD, of whose deaths were linked
to Mad Cow disease (10.e). Similarly, 1 million chickens were gassed to death in Hong Kong in 1997
in order to prevent the already undertaking spread of Influenza A (H5N1) or Bird Flu . The worst
Influenza A epidemic occurred in the United States killing 20 million people in 1918 (10.b). In New
York last month, five people died of a rare encephalitis disease caused by a West Nile like virus, which
is believed to have been transmitted from birds, who researchers found to have died from the West
Nile virus (8). Finally, and probably the most menacing disease ever in human history would have to
be HIV and AIDS, which is still infecting the human population worldwide in gross amounts.

The Narrative Of The Life Of Fredrick Douglass
Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom. These words once said by George
Washington Carver align well with the ongoing theme of education versus ignorance throughout The
Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass. His life can be split in two: ignorance and education,
before and after, darkness and light whatever classification you choose it is irrefutable that education
changed his life and there is a clear delineation, a marked difference. The period of Fredrick s life that
can be filed under ignorance is the time predating his move to Baltimore. Before the move Fredrick
although a child was for all intents and purposes just like all the other uneducated slaves, stuck in a
oppressive cycle of ignorance. And this was the slaveholder s intent, keeping slaves ignorant
perpetuated the system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fredrick goes on to describe all the terrible afflictions of a slave and the severe lack of justice and he
said, ...no matter how unjust, the slave must never utter a word. Slaveholders didn t want their slaves
to have a voice or an opinion, because to them slaves were just like animals with no free will and no
soul. Slaveholders didn t want their slaves to show opposition in actions and neither in words because
words are powerful, because God forbid the slave says something that stirs someone s conscience, and
makes them think twice about their deplorable behavior. Furthermore it would be some sort of
blasphemy for a slave to be literate, in fact many white people didn t know how to read and write so
why should a slave? Especially when it could lead to potential mutiny. Slaves that knew how to read
and write were more dangerous than the most rebellious leave. No impulsive outbursts instead well
thought out ideas. This struck fear in the white man s heart

How Did Shinto Influence Japanese Culture
Shinto, an ethnic, ritualistic religion of Japan, has proved somewhat adaptable to social change and
significantly more adaptable to political change within the nation since its initial emergence, with
origins which trace back to 300BC . While experts argue that Shinto has been extremely influential in
shaping Japanese culture and identity, its popularity has been diminishing since the religion was
imposed by the State in Japan s pre World War II, evoking a surge of nationalism. In today s society,
the religion has made conscious efforts to regain popularity, however has not been able to wholly
adapt to Japan s modern social context, despite it being syncretic in nature (and popularly combined
with Japanese Buddhist or Confucian practices). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emperor Meiji, legend tells, wrote in Japan s 1889 Constitution that Emperor Jimmu Tenno (660BC)
was a direct descendant of Amaterasu. The position of emperor before this however, was principally
ceremonial, and the emperor typically lived in imprisonment until the Meiji restoration period (1868
1912). Instead, Japan was predominantly led by feudal noblemen, rather than the figure head. By
World War II, however, the Emperor was widely believed to be divine, and worshipped as a god,
partially as a result of Japanese radical right ultra nationalism . This was an ideology which
propagated, and spread to mainstream Japan by the 1930 s, after being introduced during the Meiji
period, through mass military conscription, industrialization, and subtle propaganda promoting Japan
as a family state , done so in an effort to ...to solidify the emperor system against the increasing power
of Western liberal thought. Emperor Hirohito, Japan s 124th emperor, was the face of this movement.
After aligning themselves to Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy as a result of the 1940 Tripartite Act,
Japan attacked the United States in 1941 in Pearl Harbour. Once the war began, the patriotic Japanese
public were lied to about great victories which had not happened in an attempt to maintain morale and
support. Following U.S occupation in 1945, Emperor Hirohito was forced to renounce his divinity to
the nation in 1946. This was followed by a reform of the Japanese Constitution, which came into
effect in May 1947. New nation wide liberties were introduced, such as a freedom of religion were
introduced, meaning Shinto could no longer be imposed as a State religion. Mainstream Shinto
teachings have since evolved, and the religion now states that the emperor is primarily and foremost a

Feasibility Study
Phase 1: Research
Good research is the key to success in property development. We start out by arming ourselves with
all the information needed to determine which locations have the potential to make money or not.
In this phase we evaluate potential suburbs, neighbourhoods and sites, do a preliminary market study,
put together a preliminary budget, carry out a preliminary financial analysis, prepare a timing analysis
and review the political climate and the council approval process.
Here are the steps we will evaluate in detail during the course:
a) Become expert in at least one area probably starting with the suburb where you live.
b) Decide what kind of development suits your goals and capability.
c) Gather information from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this phase we finalise the acquisition of the site, get any required government approvals and
begin talks with builders and other professionals we will need for the construction of the project.
We will evaluate these pre construction steps later in the course:

Discrimination And Discrimination Within The Workplace
Introduction
Discrimination is defined as making a distinction in favor of or against a person or thing based on the
group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs to rather than on individual merit
(definition 2). Discrimination does not just relate to just one meaning but several, and it can be
described in many ways. This action is not only offensive but hurtful as well. Denying any individual
a job because of their race, sexual orientation, religion, or gender is an example of discrimination.
Treating people poorly or misjudging individuals due to their race or gender is also a form of
discrimination. The public eye fails to realize that discrimination has led to many individuals quitting
their jobs or, worse, doing harm to the aggressor or themselves.
There are several methods of discriminating in the workforce. The most prominent form of
discrimination within the workplace is based on a person s gender typically in the form of men
discriminating against women, thus preventing them from attaining certain jobs in the workplace.
Society has made it clear that men are considered the more dominant figures and that they should be
privileged to all jobs. Women, seen as the weaker sex, are passed over for unqualified men, thereby
perpetuating this cycle of privilege. Discrimination can also occur against different age groups. Both
the youth and elderly have a hard time being taken seriously when applying for jobs. Each is an issue.
In regards to the youth,

Dulce Et Decorum Est And The War Poem Analysis
Individual experiences of war are eccentric and can be disparate which reflect upon the complexities
and intricacies of World War II. These contrasting experiences and judgments have been demonstrated
and explored thoroughly throughout both Rupert Brooke s 1914 war poem The Soldier and Wilfred
Owen s war poem Dulce et Decorum Est . Poet Rupert Brookes, has displayed the ideology of honour
through sacrifice resulting from patriotism within his 1914 sonnet The Soldier . The poem was written
at the beginning of the First World War in 1914, as a part of a series of sonnets written by Rupert
Brooke. The Soldier illustrates the ideals of honour sacrifice and patriotism that were valorised during
the period of WW1. Rupert Brooks 1914 war poem The Soldier , illustrates a conflicting perspective
and judgment on the concept and ideals of Patriotism so commonly referred upon by displaying the
vast patriotism and honour linked with sacrifice which affirms the hegemony of British cultural
imperialism. Wilfred Owen s 1917 war poem, Dulce et Decorum Est , explores the conflicting anti war
perspective through the vivid demonstration of the psychological and physical trauma inflicted upon
those involved in the conflict of World War 1. Owen s 1917 war poem Dulce et Decorum Est ,
denounces the traditional belief in patriotism and the honour associated with giving one s life for their
country which had become habitual during the World War II. This poem positions the reader to

Why I Want To Be A Nhs Essay
We are all born originals why is it so many of us die copies? This quote by Edward Young is an

How Did The October Crisis Of 1970 Affect Canada
How did the October Crisis of 1970 affect Canada? Did Canada do the right things during this time?
The October Crisis of 1970, some people may say that it was too great of a loss, but it was also a
significant event that affected the country positively and negatively. It impacted Canada s national
security which is a very important part of Canada moving forward, it also was the first major terrorist
attack on Canadian soil and this caused the only use of the War Measures Act during peacetime.

Canada had not faced this in the past that often, there was normally little to no terrorist attacks. The
October Crisis was not only dangerous for people involved with the government but it was slowly
becoming more dangerous for the civilians, there were many that disliked what the terrorists had to
say but there were others who agreed and decided that this was the right time to stand with the
terrorists and their opinions. According to CBC History, On October 15, three thousand people
gathered at Paul Sauvé Arena to show support for the FLQ s separatist ideas. The FLQ s lawyer,
Robert Lemieux, fired them up. (CBC 13) This had made a divide between the civilians creating more
pressure on both the government and the terrorists to do something. Because Canada had this terrorist

When Irene Character Analysis
I believe that Claire was pushed out of the window at the end of the novel. This belief stems from the
buildup of resentment that Irene had felt toward Claire during the entirety of the story, but I thought
that in the final section this resentment began to go from simply not agreeing each other to Irene
feeling threatened by Claire.
Irene and Brian have what seems to be a marriage held together by children and when Irene begins to
suspect Claire is using her charms to win over Brian, Irene immediately starts to fear Brian leaving her
for Claire. This would rip apart the stability that Irene wants so desperately in her life and she cannot
allow that. We have watched Irene attempt to manipulate people throughout the story, especially with
Brian as exemplified by her not allowing Brian to leave his job for the sake of the family. When Irene
starts to imagine Claire taking away Brian, I think that it is not a stretch to think that Irene would do
whatever it takes to make sure that the situation could not possibly come up.
Looking past Irene s desire for stability, I believe that her continuous jealousy towards Claire would
serve as proof for Irene pushing Claire out of the window. Irene describes Claire ... Show more

critical as it shows us that Irene can be pushed to rash and violent action when she thinks about Claire
taking her husband away from her. While the argument can be made that breaking a cup and pushing a
person are two separate actions with the later being harder to carry out, I think that Irene perpetually

deepest of his soul, from a love so powerful that couldn t be. Donne s love poetry was written nearly
four hundred years ago; yet one reason for its appeal is that it speaks to us as directly and urgently as
if we overhear a present confidence. (Poetry Foundation) The author mentions he has deep affections
for a woman that does not reciprocate the same feelings. John Donne can not seem to conclude why
the woman does not feel the same way about him if the woman has experienced love before. As hes

The Topic Of Age Discrimination
Introduction: The topic of age discrimination.
Age discrimination is prohibited by the United States government under the Age Discrimination in
Employment Act of 1967 which was put into place to protect workers over the age of forty. Under this
acactin is illegal to show any form of discrimination towards workers over the age of forty, including
unfavorable treatment in the hiring decisions made by employers. This essentially means that of two
prospective employees who possess the same qualifications, an employer cannot choose the younger
of the two simply based on their age and therefore potential useful years of service.
This essay seeks to examine this law and put forward arguments for and against the application of the
law.
While it may seem fair to enforce laws against age discrimination against workers over the age of
forty, there is the opposing argument where workers under the age of forty may also experience
indirect discrimination when passed over for jobs as a result of lack of experience, however, under the
ADEA, they are not protected and so face this kind of discrimination in the workplace with no
recourse for redress.
In addition, much as workers over the age of forty are given recourse for action under the ADEA, as
with many cases of discrimination, it can be difficult to prove disparate treatment or actual intent to
discriminate, and there are many legitimate defenses to any lawsuits including the bona fide
occupational qualification

The Shareholders Of Aspen Pharmacare Holdings Ltd
Earnings per share (also called net income per share) is a ratio that measures net income earned per
share of stock outstanding, and is the money each share of stock would receive if all of the profits
were distributed to the outstanding shares at year end. The higher the EPS, the better the business is as
an investment from a shareholders perspective. EPS could be due to an increase in profit or a decrease
in the number of shares in issue, which causes the return for each share to be higher.
Application:
Earnings per Share serve as an indicator of a company s profitability. The EPS increased 325 cents
from 773 cents in 2013 to 1098 cents in 2014. The company s profitability increased by 42% in 2014,
which is a great improvement from 2013. Profits increased from R3 514 100 000 in 2013 to R5 005
500 000 in 2014, and this played a big role in causing the EPS to increase by 42%. The shareholders
of Aspen Pharmacare Holdings Ltd should be satisfied as the current year (2014) EPS was higher than
usual, and a higher earnings per share ratio often makes the stock price of a company rise.
Earnings Yield
Earnings Yield 2013 = 37.71%
Earnings Yield 2014 =37.60%
Decreased 0.11% from 37.71% to 37.60%
Definition:
The Earnings Yield (the reciprocal of the P/E Ratio) can be used to easily compare the earnings of
stock or the whole market against bond yields. It is the relationship between the company s share price
and earnings per share. Generally, the Earnings Yields of

thought by a British lady real estate agent as Black because of his way of speaking. Correspondingly,
Adam thought that the British lady, whom he was talking to, is a white person. He also felt that the
lady was being a racist to the black community. As their phone conversation continued, he found out
that she is actually Black who only happened to have a British accent. Furthermore, in an interview

Political Party Vs. Politics
Political party or anything in connection with politics is a common topic of every group of Indian who
are sitting together at any place. It is always a debatable topic. Most of Indians are very much
interested in politics. We look at formation of many parties; we find that their establishment are
mainly due to ideological differences that result in split in parent party and at the end leads to
formation of a new political party with a new agenda.
In multi party system like India, the parties can be classified into three types i.e.; National parties,
Regional parties and State parties. The status of the party is granted by Election Commission of India
and after that it is reviewed occasionally. All the parties whether national, Regional or State party, they
are registered with Election Commission. A unique election symbol is given by the Election
Commission to every registered party
Currently there are 7 National parties and 56 State parties. The total number of registered
unrecognised parties in India is 1786. There are mainly nine regional parties out of 657 Regional
parties. There are 12 other upcoming parties.
The Election Commission mandates certain rules regarding starting a new political party in India like;
1. Every new party to have at least 100 members.[There are no set rules on how or who to recruit, it s
up to the party]
2. Each member is required to hold an Indian voter ID card.
3. Individuals must be 18 years old [major].

Desicions Without Grandpa
As another Team Meeting broke up, Steven plodded back to his desk where his projections for the
quarter ahead were waiting to be completed. He gazed out the hermetically sealed windows which
overlooked the sprawling city, his eyes searching for green spaces.
He sighed. He had thought transferring to the City from the village would be more exciting and
challenging but it had not lived up to his expectations and he was frustrated at the endless meetings
and emphasis on figures and targets. He was also missing his friends and family as he tried to settle
into a new life. City people rushed everywhere and appeared busy and always having somewhere to
go. He felt invisible.
He could never imagine walking along any street in his home village and not speaking to a single
person. Older folks knew him either as John and Nettie s son or Peter s grandson. Others knew him
from school or shared activities. Almost everyone who passed by his Grandpa s workshop, popped
their head in the ever open door to call out a greeting.
He pictured his Grandpa s workshop in the ivy clad stone building attached to the family home. He
could see the dust motes dancing in the sunlight streaming through the open door; Grandpa sitting in
the chair he made for himself or standing at his workbench, his tools all hanging in their proper places
on the wall behind; his stock of wood stored on open shelves out of reach of the sunlight. There was
always the dry hot smell of wood shavings and occasionally the

Film Techniques Used in Shrek to Ensure the Broadest Possible Appeal To Viewers
The animators of Shrek use many film techniques to make certain of the broadest possible appeal to
viewers. For example, its constant references to popular culture, its new style of animation, its wide
range of characters and most of all its humour.
Shrek was an award winning film in 2000, receiving an Oscar for Best Animated Film . The
popularity, both on the big screen and DVD/VHS, is due to its wide audience appeal and the use of the
latest ground breaking animation techniques.
One way the animators have ensured a broad audience appeal is through the films characterisation.

Shrek would like for people to like him, but cannot expect miracles, and won t change to suit anybody
but him.
Shrek provides a lot of the film s humour, mostly without even trying. His whole character is a jokey,
funny one and he is always looking for something to make a joke out of. He burps and farts openly
quite a lot and doesn t care if anyone hears him. He makes a lot of jokes about Donkey. For example, I
m going to save my ass! Here he is referring to Donkey needing help. Shrek has a lot of charm and
this works on viewers as they like his humour, easiness at being himself and the morals he upholds.
Shrek comes across as being very thick skinned most of the time and nothing seems to hurt him, but
during various conversations between Shrek and Donkey, and even Shrek and Princess Fiona, we see
the real side of Shrek as he tries to explain himself to Donkey and how he s a real person with real
feelings. At one point he says Ogres are like onions, they have layers. This is one of the key phrases in
the film. He wants people to accept him and understand him but most of the time this isn t possible.
Shrek is a real person and the people of Duloc do not realise this, but viewers can relate to him. For
example, whilst sliding down a banister at the same time as

Essay on Medieval Art
In the art world, the medieval periods were traditionally though to be the unproductive phase of
Europe between the decline of Rome and the Renaissance. Our modern feelings toward medieval art
are far more appreciative. The main intent of Medieval art was to express Christianity which was also
a common bond between a wide spread and diverse Europe. For this reason most of the art found from
medieval times originated in monasteries and churches. European art during the Middle Ages can be
divided into four periods. These four periods include Celto Germanic art which ranged from 400 to
800 A.D. and was important in metal work. Carolingian art ranged from 750 to 987 A.D. overlapping
50 years of the Celto Germanic period. The period of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A major difference between the two was that Carolingian architects used stone only for important
buildings such as churches and castles. Their buildings and plans for unfinished buildings show that a
major factor in Carolingian architecture was length. This was both appealing to the eye and practical,
leaving room for extra altars and separate entries. The Carolingian style is of small dimensions. Most
of this style pulls its influence from Byzantine artwork. An explanation for the sudden change from
Celto Germanic styling can be attributed to the new minuscule form of writing, remarkable for its
clarity and form (Pioch). Metal work from this time period is rare although writings tell us that
goldsmiths and enamel workers remained active.
Romanesque The art of the Romanesque period was characterized by the revival of sculptures and
fresco painting. These were common elements of architecture. Along with those architectural
advancements the period produced frequent examples of realism as well as a heightened emphasis on
emotion and fantasy. The crusades acted as a main contributor to this time period lending more
religious and revolutionary imagery. Examples of Romanesque sculpture are dated back to the last
decade of the eleventh century and then first decades of the twelfth. The primary source of artistic
patronage was provided by the monastic

  • 2. Kant And Kant s View On Life And Most If you do what you need ,your surviving. If you do what you want, your living . Philosophers Mill and Kant both share similarities and differences on their view on life and most of all on the meaning of a good life. Mill bases morality on the principle of utility which states , that actions or behaviors are right in so far as they promote happiness or pleasure , wrong as they tend to produce unhappiness or pain . While Kant bases morality on the categorical imperative which is, an unconditional moral obligation that is blinding in all circumstances and is not dependent on a person s inclination or purpose . Mill and Kant both join in their proposed first rule of profound quality a sort of all inclusiveness, for Kant s situation that of confining one s standards of activity to people who it can serve to be a widespread law of nature, for Mill s situation considering the outcomes of a sort of activity for all people. Both perceive transitional good guidelines , called by Kant obligations and by Mill subordinate standards . Accordingly the 2 philosophers have a 2 step origination of moral thought. A basic level that offered moderate good standards against the first guideline of profound quality and a performance stage that allows for settles on a choice in a specific case on the premise of the important good principles. • 3. The Rise Of The Papacy The Rise of the Papacy Introduction The birth or the beginnings of the Papacy is a rather difficult task to really nail down to a specific time, place or person and also the growth of the Papacy was a rather slow and gradual process. In this modern age Rome has been associated with the birth place of the Papacy but history shows that Constantine moved the capital of the Roman Empire to Constantinople in the 4th century. In Constantinople the father of the church was referred to as the Pope. The word Pope simply means father, and in early times was used to refer to any important and respected bishop. In Rome the father of the church was referred to as the Bishop of Rome. It is the purpose of this paper to present evidence of the individuals that gave rise to the Papacy in the centuries between the 6th and 9th. How and Why the Papacy in Rome became the Center of Power There are several contributing factors that prompted the rise of the Papacy during the time name mentioned above, but the one event that prompted this rise was the fall of the Roman Empire. When Rome was attacked by the Lombards, the Goths and the Huns it left a trail of destruction and uncertainty. Also during this time Christian heresies were running rampant throughout the state. The effort of Constantine and Roman Church leaders is when the Papacy really started to gain ground and the rise to power. As historical evidence has shown, Constantine relocated the capital of the Roman Empire to Constantinople ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Anatomy of an Orchid Flower Anatomy of an Orchid Flower Despite the astonishing diversity found in the thousands of wild species and man made hybrids, orchid flowers show an unmistakable family resemblance. Orchid flowers are generally bilaterally symmetrical only a single imaginary line can be drawn through a flower to create a mirror image. A typical orchid flower has three sepals (the outer segments that protect the bud before the flower opens), alternating with three petals. The petals and sepals may be similar or not, showy or inconspicuous. The middle petal, which is always opposite the column, is usually quite different from the others. Called the lip or labellum, it comes in a variety of shapes, depending on the species, and can be wavy or fringed or covered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So in appealing to sex, these orchids limit their potential pollinators, which would seem to be a reproductive disadvantage. Despite the apparent drawback, sexual deception has evolved several times in different types of orchids. So there must be some selective advantage, and researchers Salvatore Cozzolino and Giovanni Scopece of the University of Naples Federico II, Steven Johnson of University of KwaZulu Natal (South Africa) and Florian Schiestl of the University of Zürich appear to have figured out what it is. Schiestl and his team observed populations of 31 orchid species with varying pollination strategies in Italy and Western Australia. They measured the amount of pollen that was taken from each orchid, and the amount of pollen that made it to its intended destination another orchid of the same species. They found that populations of sexually deceptive orchids had higher pollen transport efficiency than the species with multiple pollinators. In other words, a higher percentage of the pollen that was taken from sexually deceptive orchids actually made it to another orchid of the same species. The orchids with multiple pollinators had more pollen taken from their flowers, but more of that pollen was lost dropped to the ground or deposited in flowers of the wrong species. So it appears that specializing with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It began with a stick a rock and a frozen pond, the game started spreading around like wildfire, things were being added and changed with every group of people trying to create there own version of hockey but in the 1850 s the first games of ice hockey were played, and in the 1870 s, the first set of ice hockey rules were written by a group of students at McGill University in Montreal. These rules set up the use of a puck replacing a ball and decided the number of players to be nine per team. In the 1880 s the first organization of the first amateur hockey league was created. • 6. The Cellist Of Sarajevo Character Analysis Revitalization Through Beauty The world refuses to do anything other than overlook the disruption of beauty in our life. In that, the importance of beauty would be much lesser without tragedy for comparison, for that beauty is only used to distract the world from what truly is happening beyond the safety for our home. In the novel The Cellist Of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway the idea of beauty is given to us through the melody played by the cellist in an area where a mortar fell and killed 22 innocent people. With that in sight, he brought sentience and tranquility through music all while surrounded by death and destruction. In the midst of tragedy, the author used the music played by the cellist to show how the character Arrow is affected and how the ruins of life and broken dreams can be again be restored by a sense of hope and revitalization. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For Arrow, this also happened but in a different fashion. She locked her old self away to protect herself from the barbarity war. The comforting sound of the cellist playing Albinoni s Adagio brings Arrow back to a simpler time, a time when she didn t have to live with a rifle slung over her shoulder. Her mother is lifting her up, spinning her around and laughing. The warm tongue of a dog licks her arm. (p.75) In this excerpt, it shows how the music sent her back, deep into her subconscious to the girl she once was. The music from the cellist reminded her of who she really is underneath the rigid exterior a happy, careless young ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Snowfall On Mars Mars has been a planet scientists have been interested in for many reasons, for many years. In Mars has nighttime snow storms , Ashley Yeager furthers her studies on Mars by focusing on the possibility of night time snow on Mars. Yeager explains how snowfall on Mars could even occur through scientific evidence. Yeager states that satellites showed that snow covered the Martian poles in 2008 and NASA s Pheonix lander detected snow falling below a nighttime water ice cloud in 2008. This also being the first time scientist have seen snowfall on Mars. According to Eager in the beginning scientist had believed that snowfall occurred the same way it did on Earth; however, the gravity and water vapor on Mars compared to Earth doesn t match up. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their findings showed that fast falling snow could occur on cold nights. Unlike on Earth when water ice particles grow into the snow and then fall, low temperature cool water ice clouds, creating strong winds that push water ice crystals toward the ground, creating fast falling snow. Yeager had a clear objective and enough evidence to back up her findings, while also leaving room for scientists to continue researching. Each statement was backed up with enough scientific evidence for a reader to understand the purpose of the article. For example, she broke down how the snow being able to fall at the same speed it does on Earth, through another scientist research. There was no quantitative or qualitative data because all the data was research based and no need for statistical analysis. I don t believe Yeager could ve done anything else to make this article better. She provided enough information to support her objective while still allowing the research to continue for other scientists. A reader who came across would have to do further research on how snowfall could occur on Mars unless they wanted a deeper explanation. • 8. A Case Of Statutes Trumping Common Law This is a case of statutes trumping Common Law. The seller would allege that there was a mistake in the advertisement and that, as advertisements are not offer, no contract was formed. This is a mistake, as the facts demonstrate; New Jersey Vehicle Code § 4251 trumps the common law practices of offers and mistakes. Lonergan v. Scolnick tells us that advertisements are simply manifestations of willingness to enter into a bargain, but are not meant to justify another person in understanding that his assent to that bargain is invited and will conclude it, as offers do (Restatement 2nd §24). Therefore, the advertisement is not considered to be an offer to sell the vehicle at the stated price. Under Common Law, ABC Motors would be able to refuse to sell the car at the mistaken price of $25,000. However, in New Jersey, advertisements for the sale of automobiles are governed by a statute, New Jersey Vehicle Code § 4251, stating, A dealer of automobiles in this state may not decline or refuse to sell an automobile to any person at an advertised price while the vehicle remains unsold, unless the advertisement states the advertised total price is good for only a specified period of time and that time has elapsed. As this statute would trump the common law practice of advertisements not being offers, ABC Motors advertisement is considered an offer that cannot be revoked while the vehicle remains unsold and the expiration of the offer has not lapsed. Emerging Infectious Diseases Essay Emerging Infectious Diseases Emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) are the third leading cause of death in the United States and the first leading cause of death worldwide (3). Thus, should EID s be considered an oncoming threat to human existence or is it God s response to our unbiblical stewardship of the Earth or is it nature s practical solution to overpopulation. Past EIDs Since the beginning of time, human existence has been overwhelmed by threatening diseases. Another term for Mad Cow disease is Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), which is a disease observed solely in cattle. Mad Cow disease or BSE is transmitted to humans via the consumption of infected beef resulting in a fatal human brain disorder known as Creutzfeldt Jacob (CJD). • 11. The Narrative Of The Life Of Fredrick Douglass Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom. These words once said by George Washington Carver align well with the ongoing theme of education versus ignorance throughout The Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass. His life can be split in two: ignorance and education, before and after, darkness and light whatever classification you choose it is irrefutable that education changed his life and there is a clear delineation, a marked difference. The period of Fredrick s life that can be filed under ignorance is the time predating his move to Baltimore. Slaveholders didn t want their slaves to show opposition in actions and neither in words because words are powerful, because God forbid the slave says something that stirs someone s conscience, and makes them think twice about their deplorable behavior. Furthermore it would be some sort of blasphemy for a slave to be literate, in fact many white people didn t know how to read and write so why should a slave? • 12. How Did Shinto Influence Japanese Culture Shinto, an ethnic, ritualistic religion of Japan, has proved somewhat adaptable to social change and significantly more adaptable to political change within the nation since its initial emergence, with origins which trace back to 300BC . While experts argue that Shinto has been extremely influential in shaping Japanese culture and identity, its popularity has been diminishing since the religion was imposed by the State in Japan s pre World War II, evoking a surge of nationalism. In today s society, the religion has made conscious efforts to regain popularity, however has not been able to wholly adapt to Japan s modern social context, despite it being syncretic in nature (and popularly combined with Japanese Buddhist or Confucian practices). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Emperor Meiji, legend tells, wrote in Japan s 1889 Constitution that Emperor Jimmu Tenno (660BC) was a direct descendant of Amaterasu. The position of emperor before this however, was principally ceremonial, and the emperor typically lived in imprisonment until the Meiji restoration period (1868 1912). Instead, Japan was predominantly led by feudal noblemen, rather than the figure head. By World War II, however, the Emperor was widely believed to be divine, and worshipped as a god, partially as a result of Japanese radical right ultra nationalism . This was an ideology which propagated, and spread to mainstream Japan by the 1930 s, after being introduced during the Meiji period, through mass military conscription, industrialization, and subtle propaganda promoting Japan as a family state , done so in an effort to ...to solidify the emperor system against the increasing power of Western liberal thought. Emperor Hirohito, Japan s 124th emperor, was the face of this movement. After aligning themselves to Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy as a result of the 1940 Tripartite Act, Japan attacked the United States in 1941 in Pearl Harbour. Once the war began, the patriotic Japanese public were lied to about great victories which had not happened in an attempt to maintain morale and support. Following U.S occupation in 1945, Emperor Hirohito was forced to renounce his divinity to the nation in 1946. This was followed by a reform of the Japanese Constitution, which came into effect in May 1947. New nation wide liberties were introduced, such as a freedom of religion were introduced, meaning Shinto could no longer be imposed as a State religion. • 15. Discrimination And Discrimination Within The Workplace Introduction Discrimination is defined as making a distinction in favor of or against a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs to rather than on individual merit (definition 2). Discrimination does not just relate to just one meaning but several, and it can be described in many ways. This action is not only offensive but hurtful as well. Denying any individual a job because of their race, sexual orientation, religion, or gender is an example of discrimination. Treating people poorly or misjudging individuals due to their race or gender is also a form of discrimination. The public eye fails to realize that discrimination has led to many individuals quitting their jobs or, worse, doing harm to the aggressor or themselves. There are several methods of discriminating in the workforce. The most prominent form of discrimination within the workplace is based on a person s gender typically in the form of men discriminating against women, thus preventing them from attaining certain jobs in the workplace. Society has made it clear that men are considered the more dominant figures and that they should be privileged to all jobs. Women, seen as the weaker sex, are passed over for unqualified men, thereby perpetuating this cycle of privilege. Discrimination can also occur against different age groups. Both the youth and elderly have a hard time being taken seriously when applying for jobs. Each is an issue. In regards to the youth, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These contrasting experiences and judgments have been demonstrated and explored thoroughly throughout both Rupert Brooke s 1914 war poem The Soldier and Wilfred Owen s war poem Dulce et Decorum Est . Poet Rupert Brookes, has displayed the ideology of honour through sacrifice resulting from patriotism within his 1914 sonnet The Soldier . The poem was written at the beginning of the First World War in 1914, as a part of a series of sonnets written by Rupert Brooke. The Soldier illustrates the ideals of honour sacrifice and patriotism that were valorised during the period of WW1. Rupert Brooks 1914 war poem The Soldier , illustrates a conflicting perspective and judgment on the concept and ideals of Patriotism so commonly referred upon by displaying the vast patriotism and honour linked with sacrifice which affirms the hegemony of British cultural imperialism. Wilfred Owen s 1917 war poem, Dulce et Decorum Est , explores the conflicting anti war perspective through the vivid demonstration of the psychological and physical trauma inflicted upon those involved in the conflict of World War 1. Owen s 1917 war poem Dulce et Decorum Est , denounces the traditional belief in patriotism and the honour associated with giving one s life for their country which had become habitual during the World War II. This belief stems from the buildup of resentment that Irene had felt toward Claire during the entirety of the story, but I thought that in the final section this resentment began to go from simply not agreeing each other to Irene feeling threatened by Claire. Irene and Brian have what seems to be a marriage held together by children and when Irene begins to suspect Claire is using her charms to win over Brian, Irene immediately starts to fear Brian leaving her for Claire. This would rip apart the stability that Irene wants so desperately in her life and she cannot allow that. We have watched Irene attempt to manipulate people throughout the story, especially with Brian as exemplified by her not allowing Brian to leave his job for the sake of the family. When Irene starts to imagine Claire taking away Brian, I think that it is not a stretch to think that Irene would do whatever it takes to make sure that the situation could not possibly come up. Looking past Irene s desire for stability, I believe that her continuous jealousy towards Claire would serve as proof for Irene pushing Claire out of the window. Irene describes Claire ... • 27. The Topic Of Age Discrimination Introduction: The topic of age discrimination. Age discrimination is prohibited by the United States government under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 which was put into place to protect workers over the age of forty. Under this acactin is illegal to show any form of discrimination towards workers over the age of forty, including unfavorable treatment in the hiring decisions made by employers. This essentially means that of two prospective employees who possess the same qualifications, an employer cannot choose the younger of the two simply based on their age and therefore potential useful years of service. This essay seeks to examine this law and put forward arguments for and against the application of the law. While it may seem fair to enforce laws against age discrimination against workers over the age of forty, there is the opposing argument where workers under the age of forty may also experience indirect discrimination when passed over for jobs as a result of lack of experience, however, under the ADEA, they are not protected and so face this kind of discrimination in the workplace with no recourse for redress. In addition, much as workers over the age of forty are given recourse for action under the ADEA, as with many cases of discrimination, it can be difficult to prove disparate treatment or actual intent to discriminate, and there are many legitimate defenses to any lawsuits including the bona fide occupational qualification ... Our modern feelings toward medieval art are far more appreciative. The main intent of Medieval art was to express Christianity which was also a common bond between a wide spread and diverse Europe. For this reason most of the art found from medieval times originated in monasteries and churches. European art during the Middle Ages can be divided into four periods. These four periods include Celto Germanic art which ranged from 400 to 800 A.D. and was important in metal work. A major difference between the two was that Carolingian architects used stone only for important buildings such as churches and castles. Their buildings and plans for unfinished buildings show that a major factor in Carolingian architecture was length. This was both appealing to the eye and practical, leaving room for extra altars and separate entries. The Carolingian style is of small dimensions. Most of this style pulls its influence from Byzantine artwork. An explanation for the sudden change from Celto Germanic styling can be attributed to the new minuscule form of writing, remarkable for its clarity and form (Pioch). Metal work from this time period is rare although writings tell us that goldsmiths and enamel workers remained active. Romanesque The art of the Romanesque period was characterized by the revival of sculptures and fresco painting. These were common elements of architecture. Along with those architectural advancements the period produced frequent examples of realism as well as a heightened emphasis on emotion and fantasy.
