2. Jonestown Cult Analysis
Over nine hundred people dead within five minutes and all done by one all powerful cult leader.
Unfortunately, that was the case for the members of Jim Jones s cult of Jonestown. Jonestown is a
prime example of how a religious movement can turn into a cult in the matter of time, and how it can
be difficult to protect people against. This is due in part to our general acceptance of most religious
movements in accordance to the first amendment, but also due in our classification of what a cult is.
Cults are just destructive religious movements and are still protected by the first amendment. But one
can t help but wonder how many cults are getting away with doing terrible things under the guise of
religious choice. It s hard to admit that there s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the reason why we shouldn t allow a clause to protect individuals from religions is fairly
complex, but crucial to understanding why just adding new qualifiers isn t necessary. Within the 1st
amendment there is the freedom of religion, but within that comes two very important clauses the
Establishment Clause and the Free exercise Clause. They are written as follows: Congress shall make
no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof ( The
Constitution of the United States, Amendment 1). The words in the amendment are indicative of the
clause. The establishment clause already puts a careful line on how much government interference
there is with religious establishments, however the free exercise clause is critically important when
discussion religious scrutiny in this paper. The law is absolute that congress can make no law
prohibiting the free exercise of religion, however, this is often not followed. In Employment Division
vs Smith (1990), it was decided that a government entity had to prove it had compelling interest if the
generally applicable law infringed on religious beliefs, and that careful scrutiny would be made if
fundamental rights were at stake. Often, this was wishy washy and especially hard to do when
religious freedom cases can vary from things like religious beliefs interfering with work or animal
ritual sacrifice, one issue having a clearer moral quandary than the other. It is important to consider
that the element of compelling interest already does what a protection against cults would do, and
although it is often in flux, it has done its job without putting any lives in

5. What Is The History Of Classical Music During The Baroque...
The Baroque Period lasted from 1600 to 1750. This period is where studies of classical music began.
During this time period, artists would make their music as intricate as possible to make it sound as
elegant as possible. This was a great time for royalty and nobility. The wealthiest households would
hire musicians, but depending on the household they might would have an entire orchestra. The
households would hire composers to compose songs for parties, balls, and ceremonies. The church
would also hire musicians, because of the general public s love for music. (Craig) Oratorios were
started in the Baroque Period. Oratorios are sung, much like operas, except for they were about
biblical stories. The only main difference is that oratorios are unstaged performances. Oratorios were
usually long performances, lasting for several hours. Churches would normally have them for the
public. Churches would also have Cantatas. Cantatas were basically the same thing as operas, but they
were much shorter. They were usually as long as a church service. (Craig) Instrumental music was still
well loved during the Baroque Period. Instrumental music was used for formal dances, like balls and
parties. Suites were also played; suites were made of different dance movements. The dance types are
allemande, bourree, courante, gavotte, gigue, minuet, sarabande, and waltz. The music would
normally have a constant beat and was often quite repetitive. (Craig) Vivaldi was a Baroque composer,

6. Abandonment and Struggle on a Farm
Simplicity, especially in poetry, can be an often underrated and overlooked method of conveying a
meaningful and extended message. Ted Kooser, an American poet and writer, is well known for his
simplistic style of writing and has been described as using an [H]onest, accessible verse... (Ted
Kooser: The Poetry Foundation). Kooser was born in Iowa and now resides in Nebraska. Both Iowa
and Nebraska are situated in the Midwestern United States, an area noted for its rural landscape and
population. Kooser s rural background and accessible verse are exceedingly evident in his poem

The second stanza of the poem introduces the women and her child that she and the man share. This
stanza, like the first, is riddled with the use of personification which can be evidenced in the first line
A woman lived with him, says the bedroom wall/papered with lilacs... (Kooser). A lighter, more
positive tone underlies this stanza with the descriptions of the lilac wallpaper and a ...sandbox made
from a tractor tire (Kooser). The theme of struggle is reiterated when the narrator states that Money
was scarce and that the winters [were] cold (Kooser). And finally, the last line It was lonely here, says
the narrow country road presents the theme of isolation through the use of personification (Kooser).
This isolation lends itself to the more prevalent theme of struggle, suggesting that the family has no
one else to rely on and is secluded from any possible relief or help. The third and final stanza leaves
the reader to come up with his or her own conclusion as to what has happened at the farmhouse.
Nonetheless, the narrator does state that Something went wrong thus reintroducing the ominous tone
presented in the first stanza and informing the reader that something bad happened (Kooser). The
description of the house as empty solidifies the theme of abandonment and presents the idea of
isolation again.

Carl worked hard everyday even through the rough time to have success in track and field. A little boy

Parkinson s Disease and Action of Drugs on Movement
Introduction:
Parkinson s disease is a neurological disorder that seriously impairs motor function, with people
afflicted with this condition exhibiting akinesia, muscle rigidity and having a tremor at rest. It is
accepted that the loss of motor function is brought upon by the progressive degeneration of
nigrostriatal dopamine neurons, which leads to a corresponding loss of dopamine in the
caudate/putamen part of the basal ganglia, which is accepted as the main receiving area in motor
circuits. Information coming to it from the cortex and thalamus is processed and channeled to the

Aside from functioning as a neurotransmitter, dopamine is also the precursor to noradrenaline in all
central and peripheral noradrenergic neurons. Dopamine is made from the precursor Tyrosine which is
converted to DOPA by the enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase, and DOPA is then converted to dopamine by
the enzyme dopa decarboxylase. This enzyme has a much higher activity in comparison to tyrosine
hydroxylase so under normal conditions there is little or no endogenous DOPA found in most cells.
The first line of treatment for a patient is to replenish their dopamine stores, which have diminished
due to loss of dopaminergic neurones. As dopamine cannot cross the blood brain barrier it is of no use
to simply administer dopamine, instead its precursor L DOPA is given. This is able to cross the blood
brain barrier upon which it is then converted to dopamine by aromatic amino acid decarboxylase.
However L DOPA can also be converted to dopamine in the periphery, which can cause unwanted
effects and so to prevent this a decarboxylase inhibitor is given. Not only does this reduce adverse
effects but also lowers the effective dose.
Dopamine is rapidly taken up into storage vesicles by an energy dependent transporter mediated
process, achieving high local concentrations within the storage vesicles by complexing with

Livy s The Rise of Rome serves as the ultimate catalogue of Roman history, elaborating on the
accomplishments of each king and set of consuls through the ages of its vast empire. In the first five
books, Livy lays the groundwork for the history of Rome and sets forth a model for all of Rome to
follow. For him, the special and salutary benefit of the study of history is to behold evidence of every
sort of behaviour set forth as on a splendid memorial; from it you may select for yourself and for your

Livy s description of Romulus as a man with exemplary strength and military prowess helps solidify
his position as a truly great Roman.
The attributes relating to Tarquin Superbus s effectiveness as a leader hardly stray off the path set forth
by Romulus. Tarquin was not an ineffective leader in war; in the military sphere he would have been
deemed equal to the earlier kings... (Livy 61). Once again, we see the necessity for Roman kings to be
skilled in the art of war, leading massive armies to victory for the benefit of the empire. In addition to
his prowess on the battlefield, Tarquin demonstrated an overwhelming sense of ambition, a feature
that brings with it the desire for power and greatness, the very same desire that characterized Rome as
a city. Just as Romulus fought for power against his brother Remus, so too did Tarquin fight for his
right to power against Servius. Tarquin s acquisition of the throne came through brute force, as
overwhelming numbers and his own physical strength helped to literally cast Servius from the steps of
power. Tarquin s characteristics mirrored many of the other kings both before and after him, and so it
is easy to find justification for his position as a king of Rome.
Livy s portrayal of Tarquin s rule, however, strays a great deal from the characterization of Tarquin as
worthy of holding such a powerful position. Livy s narrative effectively strips the reader of the ability

trustworthy. Among the feelings and the characteristics comes morality, it is the knowledge of
knowing the right and the wrong and distinguish between them but we cannot say that morality have
one flavor because some people have a different perspective from others. Through my experience and
our religion lessons, anything that makes us behave like an animal is forbidden.
As a reader you have to understand the author s morality through his or her writing so you can
determine if the writer s morality is acceptable by your standards or not. Raymond Carver is an
amazing writer although I did not read all of his works, but he always leave the writer hanging at the
end not knowing what is happening except for the actions which is a sad thing, also the way he writes
about the ending is complicated because the goal of the story lays at the end of it. Unknowing what is
the end precisely makes the reader in a huge circle of wondering and of course cannot determine the
morality of the story, which is the writer s morality at the first place.

20. Book Thief Comparison
This fabulous novel is rich, complicated and wise enough to satisfy a reader of any age, says Atlanta
Journal Constitutional (Zusak, 0). In grade eleven, university level English, students may study Brave
New World by Alex Huxley, but The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is a much more suitable novel to
study. The Book Thief incorporates an amazing plot with excellent characters, is beautifully written,
and is the perfect novel to analyze. To begin, The Book Thief s plot and characters overshadow the
plot and characters in Brave New World, making it the better option to study in class. The Book Thief

The Book Thief includes all the elements of a complete and complex plot, which helps better develop
character, theme, and relationships whereas Brave New World s plot is weak and does not include as
many events. A complete and complex plot leads to students being more engaged, higher marks, and
happier teachers. Additionally, The Book Thief includes numerous types of characters and better
developed characters. For example, Liesel, a dynamic character, grows from an innocent, shy girl to a
courageous grown up teen. Including various well developed characters make it easier to relate, get
emotionally attached, and actually read the novel, which every teacher wants. Furthermore, well
developed characters create pity and fear. For instance, throughout the novel, Liesel and Max become
very close as he says, often I wish this would all be over, Liesel, but then somehow you do something

22. Essay on Children s Comprehension of Television Messages
Children s Comprehension of Television Messages
The literature surveyed so far regarding children s attention to television has relied on observation of
visual attention by the child viewers. Measures of visual attention alone do not provide an indication
of what aspects of the message children are extracting from the television screen. In order to acquire
indications of this, researchers have relied on post viewing measures of children s recognition and
recall of information from the program. This research will be considered in this section on children s
understanding of television messages. Here the concern is not with what children are looking at and
listening to, but what they remember from the TV and what meaning the TV ... Show more content on

These authors attempt to demonstrate through experimental or survey procedures that children of a
particular age or stage level accordingly do or do not use television characters motivations when
assessing their behaviors. This is a clear cut example of directly borrowing developmental theoretical
notions and demonstrating their applicability when children are processing television information. In
other situations, however, cognitive development theory in general may be less useful in directly
describing or predicting age related changes in children s construction of meaning from television. For
instance, we are only beginning to examine children s understanding of various kinds of filmic
techniques, such as zooms, camera movements, and montage (see Salomon, 1979). One researcher in
this area, Solomon (1979), argues that these and other sorts of filmic techniques indeed, the whole
symbol system used on television for representing reality may actually play a role in accelerating or
otherwise affecting cognitive developmental changes among child viewers. That is, Solomon argues
for a reverse causality, that just as child viewers level of cognitive development may lead them to
interpret television in a certain manner, television viewing may lead to changes in their level of
cognitive abilities. This is a

The White Anglo Saxon Protestants (WASPs) have been at the top of the social hierarchy ever since
they arrived to America in the 1600s. The first wave of immigration consisted of the Germans, Irish
and Chinese. The WASPs created a way to measure the success of each immigrant group. They
acknowledged four factors of success that would show them whether an immigrant group was
successful or not. The first factor of success was how much money an immigrant had when they came
to America. The more money they came to America with, the more successful they were. Another
factor of an immigrant s success was how large the group they came with was. The larger the group,

Through their settlement, they proved to the WASPs that they were capable of functioning in society
without disturbing the WASPs at all.
The WASPs also respected the Germans because the Germans were Protestant. The Germans also
proved that they were extremely hardworking. They created many businesses, some of which still
exist today. The Germans also brought over foods such as hot dogs, apple pie, and pretzels.
Furthermore, the Germans came in quite small numbers, which the WASPs definitely appreciated. The
Germans did not have to assimilate and live on their own, without the WASPs having to take care of
them. Finally, the Germans were relatively welcomed when they arrived to America. The only
stereotype given to them was a positive one, claiming that they were the model immigrants that every
other immigrant group should aspire to be like. All in all, the six million Germans who came to the
United States during the first wave were well liked by the WASPs and had a successful and smooth
immigration into America.
Arguably the least successful immigrant group that arrived to America was the Irish. When the Irish
landed in the United States, the WASPs immediately disliked them. First off, the Irish came over with
barely any money, which indicated to the WASPs that they were unsuccessful and unintelligent. The
Irish came over to America in tightly packed ships called coffin ships. They were called coffin ships
because 1/5 of the Irish died on

to the play Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare. A critical analysis will be provided both
questioning and strongly disagreeing with the statement made by spark notes. Evidence will be
provided from the text with further explanation to support claims made within this essay in order to
further strengthen the argument being presented. The internet is a technological source filled with an
endless supply of information. However, some of the information cited can sometimes prove to be
irrelevant, false and even questionable. This is sometimes the case with the famous english online
website Spark Notes, an online study aid which provides summary s, critical analyses and more on
books, plays and so on to aid in the users understanding of the respective texts ( About SparkNotes,

Servitje Sendra worked with his father in the family bakery throughout his childhood, but when his

you strong enough to go through the maze of horror? Or will you fail like the heads you can see on the

I gulped down the fear that I had due to the cleverness of the spirit. I had to do this for the community.
No one could come to this house because whoever lived here said that this house would get haunted,

The ship s interior is black except for one white wall. The entrance is shaped like a huge tunnel; at its
end a small but bright light is visible (Figure 36). This creates a strong contrast, and emphasizes the
white light. The tunnel creates a frame around the light which focuses it. This scene generates a
mysterious and oppressive atmosphere for the only light source appears very small compared to the
rest of the dark tunnel. The light seems to be swallowed by it. Moreover it generates curiosity; the
audience wants to know what the source of the light might be. When the characters approach the light
we see more details of the tunnel. It has a specific texture that reminds of bark. Because the walls have
no smooth surface there is no soft transition from bright to dark. The shining light emphasizes the
tunnel s texture. This texture makes the scene even stranger because it gives the tunnel an unfamiliar
appearing. A bit later Louise and the other are standing in front of the light source. Now the audience
sees that the light is caused by a huge semitransparent wall. Near the end of the film Louise is on the
other side of that wall; she is inside the room where the heptapods are located. This room is the exact
opposite of the tunnel. Whereas the tunnel is dark and narrow the room is filled with white fog and has
no visible walls (Figure 27). In this case the negative space is the huge white area that surrounds

28. Barbara Ehrenreich Weaknesses
Barbara Ehrenreich is a successful American author that conducted an experiment of living in a life of
low wages. She documented her experiences and thus made the book Nickel and Dimed. This story
involves a woman named Barbara Ehrenreich who goes undercover to experiment living in a life of
low wages and sees if she can survive from it. Ehrenreich effectively captures her argument of
showing that it is almost impossible to provide the basic needs for one s self by working a minimum
wage job. The part of the title of the book that states On (Not) Getting By In America; the word Not
goes with her argument being that it is very hard to provide for oneself under the employment of a
minimum wage job.
This book had several strengths, for one it contained first hand experience; experiences being that
Ehrenreich had worked in different cities and in a wide range of jobs. This was able to give the reader
a feel that no job is similar, but the way the employees get treated is similar. For example, Ehrenreich
had worked as a waitress, maid, and a cashier. In the time of her waitress occupation she dealt with
many unfair rules of management and rude customers. In the time of her maid occupation, she also
dealt with unfair rules of management and rude homeowners. Finally, as a cashier; she also dealt with
unfair rules of management and unfair schedules that they wouldn t accommodate to. So the relapsing

29. Advertising In Advertising
Advertisements have come up with schemes to manipulate just about anybody into buying their
products. They use multiple methods to draw in consumers just by how they word their slogans,
photoshop their ads , and who they use to promote their products. Ads use weasel words to change the
meaning of their slogans. Weasel words are words that make ads sound as if they re making claims
when they re basically saying nothing at all. Their technique is to make the audience believe their
products can do exactly what they say they do. They manipulate their audience by making it look like
they re making claims that their products work, but it s not always true. Ads use photoshop to give the
illusion of perfection. This makes the audience believe that if they buy what the ad is advertising, they
will look a certain way. When ads use popular celebrities to promote their products, it makes fans that
look up to them want to use those same products. Olay uses techniques to make their audience believe
their products are efficient by using manipulative claims, photoshop, or well known celebrities. Olay
carries a product that s supposed to clear up skin, labeled PROX Clear. The ad for this product
includes an image of a young light skinned woman. Her skin appears to be flawless and glowing. She
is a brunette with brown eyes. In the foreground of the picture is the golden box the product is
packaged in and three white bottles. The heading of the ad says, Olay Professional PROX Clear.

Oleanna, a play by David Mamet, is a drama play that focuses on two characters; John, a University
Professor and Carol, one of his students that accuses him of sexual misconduct. Throughout the three
acts of Oleanna, the developmental changes in each character leads to a gradual power shift from John
to Carol. This can be seen through the John s preset authority as a professor at the beginning, Carol s
gradual acquisition of the power by adjusting her behavior to John s, and John s inevitable downfall.

Right off the bat, the viewer notices that Carol s choice of clothing has changed. She is no longer
wearing a loose jumper and long skirt, but rather a more professional looking blazer. This ensemble
eerily resembles John s. As a University Professor, he chooses to wear a suit to project an aura of
authority and even leadership, which is what Carol is trying to establish for herself by mimicking the
way John dresses. In addition to that, Carol is no longer the soft spoken, timid girl from Act 1, but
rather it is she who is well spoken and articulate. She becomes more assertive and interrupts her
professor s various rants with remarks of scrutiny. Towards the beginning, during one of his many
rants, John uses the word paradigm to which Carol replies; I don t know what a paradigm is. (Mamet
45) and when John tells her that it means model she replies, with a great deal of hostility; Then why
can t you use that word? (Mamet 45). In addition to that, John realizes that he is loosing control over
the situation a little bit, so he tries to wheel Carol back in to being the naïve, soft spoken girl she was
in Act 1. After reading her letter of complaint, John sits down with her and puts on a show of great
compassion saying Now, I see I have angered you. I understand your anger at teachers. I was angry
with mine. I felt hurt and humiliated by them. Which is one of the reasons that I went into education.

that students have had previous experiences with GeoGebra and with fair sharing, perhaps with friends
or siblings for example. We divided up the work evenly and worked on our sections on our own,
asking for help if needed. This assignment provided me the opportunities to practice implementing the
mathematical teaching methods I have been learning about in my classes, work with a fellow
classmate that has had more experience in the classroom, and work on what it may look like to

33. External Environment Of The Brewing Industry
Introduction
This report will examine the external environment of the brewing industry using a PESTEL analysis
and the internal capabilities of ABInBev using a value chain analysis in order to determine how the
firm appears to compete. Following this, strategies for improving the competitive position of the
company will be outlined.
ABInBev is a multinational beverage and brewing company based in Belgium. It is the largest brewer
in the world with a 20.8% market share (Statista, 2016) and is also one of the world s top five
consumer goods companies.
Figure 1: Market share by volume (Statista, 2016)
The brewing industry is interesting to examine due to its relatively unique structure. Up until
November 2015, the market was dominated by four main players, known informally as the Big Four .
AB InBev was the largest, followed by SABMiller, Heineken and Carlsberg. In November 2015,
however, ABInBev and SABMiller agreed a formal $107 billion takeover deal, combining the brewers
into a company which industry experts claim would control around half of the industry s profits
(Mickle, 2015). As a result of the sheer size and complexity of the merger, it is anticipated that the
deal will not be finalised until the second half of 2016 as ABInBev must negotiate with anti trust
regulators around the world with respect to their potential monopolistic position. As the deal is yet to
be completed, this report will analyse ABInBev independent of SABMiller.
