Structural Design Of Domical Architecture During The...
This essay will look into the structural design of domical architecture in the Imperial Roman Era.
Investigating the materials, construction techniques and critically analyzing the way in which these
entities come together to form a seamlessly self supporting structure. The domes which will survey a
breadth of this structural scale will be mainly focused on The Pantheon (AD117 138), and

According to Stephenson, the Dome in Imperial Roman society originated from small scale domestic

as population increased so too did the structural considerations, increasing dome size towards a civic
scale, which could house public activities and sacrificial

1906 Earthquake Research Paper
On April 18, 1906, in San Francisco, California there was an earthquake that was a major geological
disaster that affected people in many ways. According to www.History.com, San Francisco had a
population of around 400,000, and 3,000 people. The earthquake destroyed over 28,000 buildings and
around 250,000 people became homeless. The damage costs were $500 in 1906. The magnitude of the
earthquake was estimated to be a 7.8, but only lasted for 1 minute. The earthquake started many fires
that burned for days and destroyed around 500 city blocks. The earthquake could be felt from Los
Angeles to southern Oregon, and in central Nevada. This earthquake was caused by the transform
plate boundary from the pacific and North American plates. The 2 plates rubbed against each other
creating the earthquake. (decodedscience.org). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example a political impact was that the mayor of San Francisco illegally ordered a shoot to kill for
the military to stop citizens from looting stores that got affected from the earthquake, because after the
fire settled down many people went to loot the stores. The army also pressed people to help work and
fix the city at gunpoint. (Picturethis.muesem.org) (popularmechanics). According to www.sf info.org
another economical impact of this event is that the earthquake destroyed about 80% of the city. The
overall cost in damages from the earthquake came to be $500 dollars in 1906 which is about 9.5 to 10
billion dollars, but luckily San Francisco was able to rebuild its city back up

Phoenix Art Museum
Museum Report Before I went to the museum, my prospective about a museum was poor
expectations. What can a museum will offer? , this was one of the questions that I always had in mind.
For these reasons, I never thought that I could enjoy a museum tour. However, everything change after
visited the Phoenix Art Museum. I went to the trip with poor expectations, but since I arrived in the
lobby with all of my classmates and the professor. I started feel that this trip will be sash an
educational experience. First, I arrived at the Phoenix Art Museum and honestly I was going for my
grade. But my mind change as soon I get into the lobby. Everyone was exited, some people look really
knowledgeable about art, and I heard them talking about pieces of art that Mr. Bierly talk about it. The
workers were very friendly and amiable. They always smile at you making you felt welcome and
those actions made me feel more comfortable. Next, each room of art were unique. When I get into
each room, some things that surprise me that each room was very exclusive, original and uncommon.
Also, the rooms were very enlightened and I personally felt that each room had something for
everyone in the family. Another thing that I noted of the museum was the accessibility of each floor,

could have our time to explore more pieces then tried to apply what Mr. Bierly taught in class. One
thing that I experienced in the trip, while he was explaining each pieces of art, I was able to

Biology 2
The Cannonball Jellyfish
The Cannonball Jellyfish is a species of jellyfish in the family Stomolophidae. It is a blueish brown
bulb shaped similarly to a cannonball and thus has radial symmetry. For defense, it stings whatever
gets close enough with its short jelly shrouded tentacles covered in nematocysts. These nematocysts
also dispense a mucus containing a toxin that scares away most predators. However, the venom that is
used is rather impotent. For food, they trap small prey like plankton or larvae by trapping them in their
mucus covered mouth folds. They move around by either following a current, or moving in such a
way that they are propelled vertically in the way they are facing. These balls of fun generally live ...

After such, it goes into the strobular stage, and begins to segment and reproduce. They reproduce
asexually, but they can also produce via sperm and eggs during their medusa state. It lives mostly in
the South Eastern US and Gulf Coast regions, usually in waters in temperatures around 23.1 degrees
Celsius. It turns out that they may have medicinal uses, such as helping with arthritis, and bronchitis.
The cannonball jellyfish known as the Cabbage Head Jellyfish, and is considered a delicacy in Japan.
So much so that it has been a huge problem. In many such areas that this jellyfish inhabits, it is either
incredibly overpopulated to the point where it is causing water problems, or being very over
harvested, and harming the ecosystem. They can especially harm the leatherback sea turtle, as these
jellyfish so happen to be their main food source. It does not help any that the leatherback sea turtle is
endangered. The Cannonball Jellyfish is also incredibly quick to go stale, so they are processed as
soon as they are caught. They are among the most harvested in the fish market, and also one of the
most populated. While Cannonball Jellyfish are being harvested, some fishermen and fisherwomen

Reaction Paper For Dengue
Mosquitoes can transmit a bigger number of illnesses than other variants of arthropods and have an
impact on a large number of human population all throughout the world. WHO has declared that
mosquitoes are the public enemy number one (Geneva, 1996). Dengue is a mosquito transmitted
disease created by the virus itself. It is transmitted by many types of mosquitoes on the Aedes genus,
essentially Aedes Aegypti. The Department of Health (DOH) said, the quantity of dengue cases in the
Philippines is nearly 100,000. There is still no vaccine against dengue, however it is prescribed to give
adequate amounts of water to rehydrate the patient. The National Dengue Prevention and Control
Program was initially started by the Department of Health (DOH) in 1993. Central Visayas and the
National Capital Region served as the pilot destinations. It was not until 1998 when the project was
executed across the country. The target populations of the system are the overall public, the LGUs, and
the local health workers (Lee Suy, n.d.).

The real instrument in mosquito control operation is the use of synthetic insecticides, for example,
organochlorine and organophosphate mixes. In any case, this has not been extremely fruitful because
of varying factors. Recently, utilization of a large portion of the previous engineered insecticides in

cost of synthetic insecticides, dealing towards ecological manageability, destructive impact on human
health, and other non target populations, higher rate of organic amplification through environment,

Modernist Movement in Ford s Good Soldier and Woolf s...
Ford Madox Ford and Virginia Woolf were major contributors to the modernist movement. They, as
well as others (such as James Joyce), were trying something new, by breaking down the boundaries of
traditional writing. Ford s Good Soldier and Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway are two particular examples of the
genre. These novels were not well received in their own time. As time went on, however, the attitudes
of the literary world changed and were able to finally see these works for what they really are
exemplary pieces of fiction, certainly worth merit.
The Good Soldier was first published in 1915. Rebecca West penned a promising review for the year,
ending with Indeed, this is a much, much better book than any of us deserve (40). ... Show more

He questions Dowell s mental balance because he degrades Florence, his wife, for her indiscretions.
Edward Ashburnham is guilty of the very same things, yet he is still regarded as good people. He also
wonders at the meaning of the narrator s nearly phobic concern with Catholicism, or of the way in
which his slurs at Leonora are justified by her attachment to that persuasion (46).
If the implication is that John Dowell is crazy, Schorer is failing to see other psychological reasons
why a man such as Dowell would think this way. It is evident that our narrator has not fully processed
all of the events before he begins to tell of them. In addition, Dowell obviously wants to continue
thinking highly of Ashburnham the good soldier, and this completes John s psychological quandary. At
the very least, Schorer recognizes the merit of The Good Soldier, and his essay appears to understand
the deliberate complexities of the novel.
Charles Hoffman likens The Good Soldier to an allegory, the breakup of civilization itself, heading
toward disaster (53). Even while the quartet is falling apart, however, they still put on the proverbial
brave face and, to all outward appearances, are just fine. This can be applied to the world at large.
Ford also exposes the evil kernel within the hearts of mankind. To others, these are good people, but

Opposition to Prescribed Burns Essay
Opposition to Prescribed Burns
Forest fires kill many animals and usually destroy a large amount of land. Prescribed burns seem like
they would be the best idea, but are they? Their claim to fame is to clear out land in order to decrease
the burning space for when an actual forest fire occurs. Yet this may seem like a brilliant idea, but one
must look at the negative aspects of controlled burnings. People might have a change of heart when
they realize the damages and effects of such an interesting act. Keep in mind that not only is your
health involved but even such things as the inconvenience of dealing with a smoky town. It is
important to understand that prescribed burns cause severe health problems especially to ... Show

Much like the firefighters in 911 (figure 1); many people would say that a firefighter s health is very
important. Life is a precious thing and before we sit around and let controlled burnings take control,
we should protect the lives of those who protect us.
Figure SEQ Figure * ARABIC 1 (Firefighters at a 911 memorial)
Although health is a major issue, you must keep in mind that visibility is very important, especially if
you have to drive through the thick smoke on a major highway. Loss of sight during a burn usually
occurs during high peak exposures (Reinhardt 35). It is hard for firefighters to concentrate on their
work because the smoke decreases their visibility so much (Reinhardt 34). Besides the danger of not
being able to see while driving and a firefighter not being able to see what he is doing, it is also a
negative to not be able to enjoy the beautiful nature around us when we are outside. The smoke may
not last long, but it is hard to go on with day to day lives dealing with breathing let alone looking
through the smoke each day. Smoke could irritate eyes for a long period of time and might possibly
lead to long term damage (Reinhardt 34).
The last, but yet most important aspect one must look at is the fact that your long term health could be
affected by smoke damage from the burns. The top five components of potential health hazards are:
acrolein, benzene, carbon monoxide,

Loneliness And Alienation In The Painted Door By Sinclair...
Loneliness and alienation can often have a strong effect on people, especially when facing normal
societal challenges. People will act differently and have different reactions if they aren t around others
facing these problems, this is illustrated well by Sinclair Ross in two of his stories. His story The
Painted Door focused on a farmer s wife named Ann. It begins with her husband, John, leaving to help
his father at his father s farm while Ann begs him to stay. He leaves anyway but stops to visit their
neighbour, Steven, and asks him to go visit Ann to keep her company. Out of loneliness and
desperation Ann cheats on John with Steven. The next morning, they find John frozen to death and
Ann sees paint on his palm, revealing John had seen Ann and Steven together and left back into the
cold to meet his demise. Sinclair Ross One s a Heifer focuses on a thirteen year old ... Show more

He strongly hints at it when they talk about her and expressess his distaste, Too many of the kind you

Vickers is not used to having people around, so when this girl stays with him he is unsure how to deal
with her, and he ends up murdering her. He also does everything he can to keep the protagonist out of
the box stall, It s just kind of a harness room now. Up till a year ago I kept a stallion. (Ross 418)
Throughout the story it is strongly hinted that Vickers is keeping the body of the girl in the box stall.
He is very reluctant to let the protagonist see inside and tries to draw the protagonists attention away
from the box stall. Vickers is clearly a character driven by his comfortable loneliness and isolation
from the outside world to murder his companion. Both of these characters were driven to make
drastic, life changing decisions as a result of their loneliness and

The Pros And Cons Of Smuggling
Smuggling is the illegal transportation of objects, information or people, such as out of a house or
buildings, into a prison, or across an international border, in violation of applicable laws or other
regulations . Diplomats and officials involved in drug smuggling have benefited from diplomatic
immunity via the diplomatic bag. For example, a Venezuelan general wanted in the United States on
drugs charges and arrested in Aruba was released after the Venezuelan government protested his
diplomatic immunity and threatened sanctions if Aruba did not release him It is of note that the
Sterling submachine gun used to shoot dead WPC Yvonne Fletcher from inside the Libyan Embassy in
London was smuggled out of the United Kingdom in one of 21 diplomatic bags in 1984 . In 2012, a 16
kg shipment of cocaine was sent to the United Nations in New York in a bag masquerading as a
diplomatic pouch while in January 2012, Italy detected 40 kilograms of cocaine smuggled in a
diplomatic pouch from Ecuador . A diplomatic bag, also known as a diplomatic pouch, is a container
whose contents are protected from searches or seizure by the provisions of Article 27 Vienna

Essay on John Maynard Keynes Versus Friederich A. Hayek
Two major economic thinkers of the of the early twentieth century, John Maynard Keynes and
Friedrich A. Hayek, hold very different economic viewpoints. Keynes is among the most famous
economic philosophers. Keynes, who s theories gained a reputation during the Great Depression in the
1930s, focused mainly on an economy s bust. It is where the economy declines and finally bottoms
out, that Keynesian economics believes the answers lie for its eventual recovery. On the other hand,
Hayek believed that in studying the boom answers would be provided to lead the economy out of the
bust that was sure to follow. Hayek backed the Austrian school of economics. John Maynard Keynes

This is almost the textbook definition of money illusion, which of course classical economics assumes
people are not fooled by. Still, Keynes ideas gained popularity and President Franklin D. Roosevelt s
New Deal was directly influenced by the Keynesian point of view. Keynes held that the way out of a
depression was to increase an economy s aggregate demand(AD). Roosevelt s New Deal contained
huge federal expenditures and government jobs programs, all designed to boost AD. These programs,
including direct relief, were paid by taxpayers dollars and the tax rates rose dramatically multiple
times during the Great Depression. F. A. Hayek, the other economic thinker of the twentieth century,
believed that the way to stabilize a broken economy was to find solution from the boom that preceded
the current bust. The Hayek supported Austrian theory sought a connection among business cycles,
capital theory, and monetary theory. Hayek believed an economy started going downhill when people
did not coordinate their actions. The spontaneous order of the free market and price system usually
does a fantastic job of coordinating people s actions. Hayek said that the credit market becomes
distorted when the money supply increases, interest rates go down, and the credit becomes artificially
cheap (Friedrich). This causes an artificially high rate of investment and malinvestment.

Chemical Structure Of Hydrogen Bonds
Introduction Water ( ) has a simple molecular structure. It is composed of one oxygen atom and two
hydrogen atoms. The water properties are, adhesive forces, cohesive forces, it is a universal solvent,
also has a boiling point of 100°C and has a freezing point of 0°C. Adhesive forces are the attractive
forces between unlike molecules. Dipole dipole is a common type of adhesive force. Dipole dipole
forces account for water being attracted to most substances. Dipole dipole forces are attractions and
repulsion between polar moles. These are forces that attract partial positive and negative charge.
Dipole dipole interactions and dipole ionic interactions accounts for solubility of substances in water.
A special type of dipole dipole interaction is hydrogen bonds. Cohesive forces are intermolecular
forces such has those from hydrogen bonding which cause a tendency in liquids to resist separation.
Cohesive forces exist between molecules of the same substance. Hydrogen bonds occur when
hydrogen is bonded with either a nitrogen, oxygen or fluorine. So in water hydrogen is bonds with
oxygen. Hydrogen bonds accounts for water molecules being attracted to each other. Water molecules
consist of two hydrogen atoms bonded to an oxygen atom, and its overall structure is bent, form a V
shape. This is because the oxygen atom, in addition to forming bonds with the hydrogen atoms, also
carries two pairs of unshared electrons. Due to this hydrogen bonds water has a high melting

William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying Essay
The past is never dead. It s not even past.
― William Faulkner
In William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying, characterization, specifically through the multitude of
narrators, transforms an otherwise pedestrian plot into a complex pilgrimage to the truth. As I Lay
Dying is told from the perspective of fifteen different characters in 59 chapters (Tuck 35). Nearly half
(7) of the characters from whose perspective the story is narrated are members of the same family, the
Bundrens. The other characters are onlookers of the Bundrens journey to bury their mother, Addie.
Each character responds to the events that are unfolding in a unique way and his or her reactions help
to characterize themselves and others.

I saw... it was between [Addie] and Darl that the understanding and true love was (Faulkner 24). The
reader could either take the words for face value as true, or discard them as utter fiction. The decision
is based upon the credence of the speaker. In this case the speaker is Cora, the overly religious
neighbor. Although not initially apparent, it is later revealed that her view of Addie s affection towards
Darl is completely inaccurate. Cora bases her verbal reaction on Addie s physical response, but does
not take into account Addie s reasoning. This example makes the importance of credibility, especially
based on knowledge of the situation, more pronounced.
Furthermore, the onlookers narration needs to be free of bias for true objectivity. Faulkner lets the
most detached characters of the book give the most objective views of the Bundrens, because they
have no bias towards them. The stronger a character s morals are and the stronger their predisposition,
the more skewed their objectivity. Cora is a good example for distorted objectivity. As a deeply fervent
religious character Cora is biased against Addie s supposedly sinful ways stating, the eternal and the
everlasting salvation and grace is not upon her (Faulkner 8). Cora s husband, Tull, however, observes
the Bundrens with an unbiased mind, simply retelling what he observes. His interpretation of Anse,

Mystery In Coraline By Neil Gaiman
In these paragraphs I will show how the author of Coraline, Neil Gaiman, creates mystery. I will do
this by providing various quotes and analysing them.
Neil Gaiman creates mystery in the quote There was a cold, musty smell coming from the open
doorway, it smelled like something very old and very slow by making us want to know what this
smell. Also mystery is created in this passage with the adjective cold this links to mystery as in most
ghost films and books, whenever a ghost (or an undead creature is present) it always get s a little bit
colder. This is mysterious as this makes us think if this scent is coming from the dead. Another
interpretation is from the adjective musty this word means old or antique, and it is unusual as we ...

Firstly Neil uses the reflexive pronoun We this implies that no matter how small these creatures are
there are a lot of them, it s almost as if they have an army. He also uses the modal verb will and this
creates suspense as they are guaranteeing that Coraline will fall and that they will witness, this makes
us ask if these creatures have supernatural abilities. The word here implies that these creatures could
know where she will fall and they aren t telling her so that she will follow them. Could they be spies
from the other mother? Another interpretation is for the pronoun you. You might be thinking that this
doesn t mean anything, however this could specify to Coraline, meaning that they have been watching
her and they know everything about her... And lastly mystery is caused using the dynamic verb fall
this is mysterious as these creatures are telling her when she will die, and in a way they are threatening
her. This is mysterious as we want to know why all of this is happening to Coraline and not any other

Discrimination In The 1800 s
Society in the United States has changed the way discrimination is from the 1800 s to the 2000 s and
is a big impact to people all around the country. Many African Americans have been discriminated for
a long period of time and now, many athletes are taking a stand to show its physically and morally

Although it may be illegal, many people terrorize African Americans tell this day. Many southern
Americans fought for slavery in the Civil War but failed to fulfill their destiny. Many African
Americans were beaten, slaved , lived in harsh places, and treated poorly. Many were starved and
beaten to death and were traded like candy all over. Now, most people feel that it is immoral to do so
and realise that is wrong to take advantage of the Negro race. Today, only a few people conduct
slavery by kidnapping people and use them to for their slave. People still fight for southern morals

Essay On The Temptations
The Temptations The Temptations is a popular American vocal group that was started in the 1960 s.
The Temptations group was created in Detroit, Michigan in 1960, under the name The Elgins. The
members of the original group when it started were from two Detroit rival music groups; Eddie
Kendricks, and Paul Williams from The Primes and Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, and Elbridge AL
Bryant who was later replaced by David Ruffin from The Distants (Williams and Romanowski 178).
The groups met at a house party thrown by a friend of The Distants called Janet Poole, and that is
when they came up with a name, the Elgins and merged together to start a signing career in Detroit.
The Temptations music group struggled to succeed and be recognized, until they signed with Motown
records, and changed their name to The Temptations. The group had a hard time establishing
themselves and becoming famous, but they were able to make it after releasing a number of single
hits, which made it to the Grammy awards. The group line up changed as time passed by, but the good
thing is that, they still remained in the limelight recording many hit songs. The music ... Show more

Who Is Sister Carrie Rebel
Although Dreiser makes several generalizations about women at the beginning of the novel, which
might lead the author to be seen as conservative, his empathy for Carrie s position seems to represent
his view on contemporary women. Thus, Sister Carrie is initially described as having an average little
conscience , and being urged into the position of the traditional women (Dreiser 92). However, despite
the fact that she wants to be a consumerist, Carrie can certainly be considered to be a rebel. When the
Hansons tried to transform her personality, her heart revolted as much as when Hurstwood attemped to
narrow her desires (324). Coming to New York with her alleged husband, she, thus, started to have a
few opinions of her own (Dreiser 280). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carrie as a character depicts this transformation. At first, she is a model of True Woman, then she
becomes a modern New Woman. She does not want to follow the ideal women were supposed to
follow and, thus, she rebels not only against her husband Hurstwood, but also against society and the
common social and economic discrimination. When Carrie decides to seek a job again, the story turns
and she changes places with Hurstwood, who is now unemployed. This is described as the beginning
of the new order (Dreiser 377) and is the main decisive turning point in the novel. Carrie starts earning
money, covering all of her and Hurstwood s living cost, while he does the grocery shopping. We can
see that Carrie does not understand his unemployment, claiming that [n]o man could go seven months
without finding something if he tried (Dreiser 380). Thus, the novel as a whole demonstrates how this
social and economic rise of the New Women is not only connected but congruent to a certain decline
of the male gender, designated as a crisis of masculinity by historians (Brod, Harry. The Case for Men
s Studies. The Making of Masculinities: The New Men s Studies. Ed. Harry Brod. Boston: Allen
Unwin, 1987, pp. 39 62.). For someone like George Hurstwood, who is a married manager of
Fitzgerald and Moy s, the loss of his ability to maintain his status seems to represent this crisis
accurately. Within this shift, a major change in gender relation follows. Carrie and Hurstwood move
into different social and economic directions, drawing attention to the restructure of Victorian
assumptions regarding male and female understanding. Dreiser metaphorically remarks this: with the
tables turned, she was looking down, rather than up, to her lover (184). As aforementioned, with
Hurstwoods s downfall, Dreiser might want to point out how even rich and successful people happen
to lose all what they have.

Nursing Drug Abuse Essay
Drug Abuse: A Recommendation for Acts of Prevention In Hospitals
Within the past year, nurses with Annie Penn Hospital have been involved in over three hundred
situations that led to significant changes in the hospital s surveillance and protocol. Many nurses have
been taking non prescription drugs while on the job causing impaired judgement, which leads to
complications during surgeries. These encounters have prompted a series of outraged families
demanding justice, and the United States oldest non profit healthcare organization has decided that
there has to be a change in hospital protocol. Recently, Mayor Donecker has made recommendations
to the local hospital to adopt surprise drug tests as the preferred approach to discovering the potential
impaired nurses. The response from the nurses to the mayor s call to change protocol have been both
negative and positive. As the head CRNA, I have been asked to look into the issue and report to the
Joint Commission. This report includes a review of the professional literature on how job performance
is related with stress. Then it will refer to drug abuse and how it can affect an employee s daily life.

Edward Thatch s Revenge In Treasure Island
It was a clear August afternoon and Edward Thatch stood aboard his ship, the Queen Anne s Revenge,
holding a spyglass to his eye. He was looking at a small white speck on the horizon that he assumed to
be a brig, either Spanish or British. She s a Spanish Brig, sir! the lookout yelled from the crow s nest,
corroborating Edward s assumption. He was quite avid when it came to taking prizes, and he was the
most feared, despicable pirate in the West Indies. During battle, Edward became Blackbeard, as he is
better known, putting slow burning fuses in his hair and long black beard and lighting them on fire to
simulate him being the devil or a demon. All of his enemies were terrified of him, and the very sight

Spaniards returned fire and prepared to defend the ship. Once the two ships were close enough,
Blackbeard s crew members jumped aboard. Blackbeard lit the fuses in his beard and jumped aboard
as well. The enemies cowered in fear at the very sight of him. Soon enough, the enemy surrendered,

Bells for John Whiteside s Daughter by John Crowe Ransom
John Crowe Ransom was one of the most influential writers of his time. As a poet, essayist, and
teacher at Vanderbilt University and Kenyon College, Ransom was one of the prominent leaders of the
Fugitive Agrarians and the founder of the New Criticism school of literary criticism and the literary
journal, Kenyon Review. His works fall into many different literary movements but the majority of his
poems fall within the Fugitive Agrarianism, now known as the Southern Renaissance, movement that
emphasized classicism and traditionalism. The writers that were part of the Southern Renaissance,
including Ransom, gathered to write a collection of essays that promoted and revitalized Southern
literature in the United States. They were known for representing the tensions and paradoxes that
resulted from the collision of Northern and Southern ideologies (Holmgren para. 3). Comparably, the
Fugitive agrarians emphasized traditional poetic forms and techniques, and their poems developed
intellectual and moral themes focusing on an individual s relationship to society and to the natural
world (Davis para. 1). Both groups were especially focused on the intrusion of Northern industrialism
and destruction of Southern agrarian culture. Ransom uses bursts of imagery of rural life that reflects
the agricultural aspects that the Southern Renaissance movement stressed. He channels a lot of natural
scenery in his poem, Miriam Tazewell, but a darker and more gruesome stage in Winter

The Day Canada Became a Nation Essay
In World War I, the victory of the Allies was caused by the turning point of a stalemate on the Western
Front of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. It was the Canadians willingness to forgo nationalism in the
interests of efficiency and effectiveness that marked a new (Dickson 40) transition of the ending of
war. Through the second battle of Ypres, the Battle of Aras, and observing the previous bloodbath at
the Battle of The Somme, the Canadian Expeditionary Force (C.E.F) perfected their defense tactics
and techniques to fight in the evolutionary battle that made Canada a nation.

The court first affirmed that the widow was required to comply with the Indiana Tort Claims Act
(ITCA) notice of claim provision in the Illinois action for reasons of comity, since the court s rulings
will be recognized across jurisdictions. However, but both state s statutes would have prevented the
widow s lawsuits, since the widow waited almost two years to file her complaint. As such, her action
against the university was barred because the ITCA provision for immunity for political subdivisions
included state universities under Ind. Code § 34 4 16.5 2(f)(7). The court also found that the pilot was
acting within the scope of his employment when he gave the aerobatics demonstration in which the

Willis carrier
The invention of Willis Carrier is timeless and a major breakthrough in the engineering field. The air
conditioner is applied almost in all engineering systems like computers, vehicles, factories and all
machines where heat is involved. Conditioners are also applied in domestic homes and institutions like
hotels and hospitals. It is, therefore, evident that this invention has created a revolution in the present
working environment and so deserves great praise and honor to the hard work and commitment of
Willis Carrier are to be emulated. Carrier was a mechanical engineer who was quick to identify a fault
in the nature of work he did and his skill in engineering compelled him in the invention of a
mechanism that would impact the world to the present age. He would soon come up with a set of
designs and drawings that would be adopted by many other manufacturing companies and set up a
ground for the establishment of his own enterprise. Willis life is a motivation to all engineers in terms
of critical thinking and innovation and the ability to persist on a given course despite the challenges on
the way. His knowledge and curiosity of engineering design is to be admired which is a wakeup call to
many that may not have yet found a purpose for their study. His business and entrepreneurship skills
should also be proof to us that we are meant to be all round and not just fixed minded to what revolves
closest around us.

people throughout the country. She was most appreciated by the poorer working class in the country.
The working class championed behind Eva Perón not necessarily because of who she was, but what
she represented. Eva was born an illegitimate, poor child. Her father died, leaving her and her siblings
to be raised by their mother, his mistress. He left no assets, only an allowance to use his last name.
Eva ran away from home at 15 to go to Buenos Aires. Here she managed to rise to the top by carefully

Because of her actions, women were gained access to higher education and were able to be elected.
This caused many women to support her and her efforts. Eva was excellent at swaying the public
opinion in her direction. She would go on huge tours across Europe where she would wear extravagant

entrepreneurship is a very common reason for people to enter entrepreneurship. Moreover, conducted
findings discovered that most of the entrepreneurs never really wanted to start on their own, although
they were left with no opportunity (Block Koellinger, 2009). Baldeep s lack of education played an
important role in his early decisions of buying a business. Higher educations tend to open professional
opportunities and suppresses entrepreneurial traits (Huibert Peter de, 2012). Moreover, he understood
there are not many alternatives for him to raise his social standard so entrepreneurship became a
necessity. Baldeep s constant need to become self employed got him in financial jeopardy few times.
After a long struggle and little bit of saved money, Baldeep invested and bought a vegetable franchisee
business, which soon failed. Failure in this context has been referred to loss/profit of the business,

The Problem Of Food Industry
1. Addressing the Problem
Too many people pick up food products off of the shelves and put it into their shopping cart without
knowing what exactly it is or what the product has been through. After watching an absolutely
disturbing documentary called Food Inc. I started to feel strongly about the problems of the Food
Industry. The problem is that our food is no longer being produced in an all American farm, but in
dirty abusive factories. Not only is the food unhealthy for us after all of the processing, but the
workers and animals are being abused. I know that I single handily cannot change all of the problems
with the twisted food industry, but I know that I can do my part by making others aware so that they
can make sure that they can make fully informed decisions about what they are putting into their carts
at the grocery store and eventually into their bodies.
In the past fifty years, there has been such a vast change in the Industrial Food Industry. Food went
from being grown naturally to being processed and packaged for convenience and cheapness. This is
where the problem starts, and the greed for money is to blame. The industry has been altered in order
to find convenience in making product faster because we all know, time is money. It has been altered
in a manner of scamming to get all you can out of as little as possible to of course, save money. It has
all become a game of money and profit rather than right and wrong and I have found more than
enough examples to

The correlation between the vampire, a figure that is usually regarded as the subject of social
ostracism, and the New Woman, the advent of which was feared by the majority of the British
Victorian patriarchy, was a prominent aspect of much mid to late Victorian era literature.
Supplementary evidence to support the compelling Victorian era literary connection between the
vampire and the New Woman can be extrapolated from the unique gender role standards that defined
that socially complex era. As Catherine Siemann suggests in her essay, Darkness Falls on the Endless

In order to reinforce as loudly and clearly as possible the patriarchal message that in Victorian society,
New Women were to be regarded as social pariahs, the ultimate destruction of these literary characters
had to be performed in the most savage manner feasible, the brutality of which is almost beyond
belief. In Carmilla, prior to her slaughter, the male characters, representative of the Victorian
patriarchy, dehumanize the vampire Carmilla, by no longer referring to her by name; Carmilla is
simply reduced to being referred to as the vampire and the body. Dehumanization eliminates Carmilla
s individuality, metaphorically suggesting that her fate is the destiny that awaits all New Women.
Carmilla s execution is described as follows:
The body, therefore, in accordance with the ancient practice, was raised, and a sharp stake driven
through the heart of the vampire, who uttered a piercing shriek at the moment, in all respects such as
might escape from a living person in the last agony. Then the head was struck off, and a torrent of
blood flowed from the severed neck. The body and head were next placed on a pile of wood, and
reduced to ashes, which were thrown upon the river and borne away, and that territory has never since
been plagued by the visits of a vampire. (Le Fanu 336)

WHO has declared that mosquitoes are the public enemy number one (Geneva, 1996). Dengue is a mosquito transmitted disease created by the virus itself. They, as well as others (such as James Joyce), were trying something new, by breaking down the boundaries of traditional writing. Ford s Good Soldier and Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway are two particular examples of the genre. These novels were not well received in their own time. As time went on, however, the attitudes of the literary world changed and were able to finally see these works for what they really are exemplary pieces of fiction, certainly worth merit. Edward Ashburnham is guilty of the very same things, yet he is still regarded as good people. He also wonders at the meaning of the narrator s nearly phobic concern with Catholicism, or of the way in which his slurs at Leonora are justified by her attachment to that persuasion (46). If the implication is that John Dowell is crazy, Schorer is failing to see other psychological reasons why a man such as Dowell would think this way. It is evident that our narrator has not fully processed all of the events before he begins to tell of them. In addition, Dowell obviously wants to continue thinking highly of Ashburnham the good soldier, and this completes John s psychological quandary. At the very least, Schorer recognizes the merit of The Good Soldier, and his essay appears to understand the deliberate complexities of the novel. Charles Hoffman likens The Good Soldier to an allegory, the breakup of civilization itself, heading toward disaster (53). The water properties are, adhesive forces, cohesive forces, it is a universal solvent, also has a boiling point of 100°C and has a freezing point of 0°C. Adhesive forces are the attractive forces between unlike molecules. Dipole dipole is a common type of adhesive force. Dipole dipole forces account for water being attracted to most substances. Dipole dipole forces are attractions and repulsion between polar moles. These are forces that attract partial positive and negative charge. Dipole dipole interactions and dipole ionic interactions accounts for solubility of substances in water. A special type of dipole dipole interaction is hydrogen bonds. Cohesive forces are intermolecular forces such has those from hydrogen bonding which cause a tendency in liquids to resist separation. Cohesive forces exist between molecules of the same substance. Hydrogen bonds occur when hydrogen is bonded with either a nitrogen, oxygen or fluorine. So in water hydrogen is bonds with oxygen. Hydrogen bonds accounts for water molecules being attracted to each other. Water molecules consist of two hydrogen atoms bonded to an oxygen atom, and its overall structure is bent, form a V shape. Cora bases her verbal reaction on Addie s physical response, but does not take into account Addie s reasoning. This example makes the importance of credibility, especially based on knowledge of the situation, more pronounced. Furthermore, the onlookers narration needs to be free of bias for true objectivity. Faulkner lets the most detached characters of the book give the most objective views of the Bundrens, because they have no bias towards them. The stronger a character s morals are and the stronger their predisposition, the more skewed their objectivity. Cora is a good example for distorted objectivity. As a deeply fervent religious character Cora is biased against Addie s supposedly sinful ways stating, the eternal and the everlasting salvation and grace is not upon her (Faulkner 8). • 22. Who Is Sister Carrie Rebel Although Dreiser makes several generalizations about women at the beginning of the novel, which might lead the author to be seen as conservative, his empathy for Carrie s position seems to represent his view on contemporary women. Thus, Sister Carrie is initially described as having an average little conscience , and being urged into the position of the traditional women (Dreiser 92). However, despite the fact that she wants to be a consumerist, Carrie can certainly be considered to be a rebel. When the Hansons tried to transform her personality, her heart revolted as much as when Hurstwood attemped to narrow her desires (324). Coming to New York with her alleged husband, she, thus, started to have a few opinions of her own (Dreiser 280). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Carrie as a character depicts this transformation. At first, she is a model of True Woman, then she becomes a modern New Woman. She does not want to follow the ideal women were supposed to follow and, thus, she rebels not only against her husband Hurstwood, but also against society and the common social and economic discrimination. When Carrie decides to seek a job again, the story turns and she changes places with Hurstwood, who is now unemployed. This is described as the beginning of the new order (Dreiser 377) and is the main decisive turning point in the novel. Carrie starts earning money, covering all of her and Hurstwood s living cost, while he does the grocery shopping. We can see that Carrie does not understand his unemployment, claiming that [n]o man could go seven months without finding something if he tried (Dreiser 380). Thus, the novel as a whole demonstrates how this social and economic rise of the New Women is not only connected but congruent to a certain decline of the male gender, designated as a crisis of masculinity by historians (Brod, Harry. The Case for Men s Studies. The Making of Masculinities: The New Men s Studies. Ed. Harry Brod. Boston: Allen Unwin, 1987, pp. 39 62.). For someone like George Hurstwood, who is a married manager of Fitzgerald and Moy s, the loss of his ability to maintain his status seems to represent this crisis accurately. Within this shift, a major change in gender relation follows. Carrie and Hurstwood move into different social and economic directions, drawing attention to the restructure of Victorian assumptions regarding male and female understanding. Dreiser metaphorically remarks this: with the tables turned, she was looking down, rather than up, to her lover (184). As aforementioned, with Hurstwoods s downfall, Dreiser might want to point out how even rich and successful people happen to lose all what they have. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Bells for John Whiteside s Daughter by John Crowe Ransom John Crowe Ransom was one of the most influential writers of his time. As a poet, essayist, and teacher at Vanderbilt University and Kenyon College, Ransom was one of the prominent leaders of the Fugitive Agrarians and the founder of the New Criticism school of literary criticism and the literary journal, Kenyon Review. His works fall into many different literary movements but the majority of his poems fall within the Fugitive Agrarianism, now known as the Southern Renaissance, movement that emphasized classicism and traditionalism. The writers that were part of the Southern Renaissance, including Ransom, gathered to write a collection of essays that promoted and revitalized Southern literature in the United States. They were known for representing the tensions and paradoxes that resulted from the collision of Northern and Southern ideologies (Holmgren para. 3). Comparably, the Fugitive agrarians emphasized traditional poetic forms and techniques, and their poems developed intellectual and moral themes focusing on an individual s relationship to society and to the natural world (Davis para. 1). Both groups were especially focused on the intrusion of Northern industrialism and destruction of Southern agrarian culture. Addressing the Problem Too many people pick up food products off of the shelves and put it into their shopping cart without knowing what exactly it is or what the product has been through. After watching an absolutely disturbing documentary called Food Inc. I started to feel strongly about the problems of the Food Industry. The problem is that our food is no longer being produced in an all American farm, but in dirty abusive factories. Not only is the food unhealthy for us after all of the processing, but the workers and animals are being abused. In the past fifty years, there has been such a vast change in the Industrial Food Industry. Food went from being grown naturally to being processed and packaged for convenience and cheapness. This is where the problem starts, and the greed for money is to blame. The industry has been altered in order to find convenience in making product faster because we all know, time is money. In Carmilla, prior to her slaughter, the male characters, representative of the Victorian patriarchy, dehumanize the vampire Carmilla, by no longer referring to her by name; Carmilla is simply reduced to being referred to as the vampire and the body. Dehumanization eliminates Carmilla s individuality, metaphorically suggesting that her fate is the destiny that awaits all New Women. Carmilla s execution is described as follows: The body, therefore, in accordance with the ancient practice, was raised, and a sharp stake driven through the heart of the vampire, who uttered a piercing shriek at the moment, in all respects such as might escape from a living person in the last agony.
