Esstj Strengths And Weaknesses
All my friends have always called me loyal to a fault aka I would follow anyone I trust over a
cliff.Whether this can be considered a strength or a weakness is up to you. Being a ESTJ it is claimed
that my strengths include multiple things but the few that I believe directly apply to me are strong
willed, direct, and enjoy creating order/organizing.My weaknesses as a ESTJ that I relate too are being
stubborn, finding it difficult to relax, and a difficulty in expressing my emotions. Growing up shaped
me into who I am today which reflects in my results as a ESTJ. Being described as strong willed is
something that has been with me since I was little. To me I take this as a complement as comparatively
my sister was the type of person to fly under the radar and try to be a people pleaser.I could never
comprehend that because it was just not in my build to do that. I was determined to do things my way
because that is all I could understand. Accordingly I am someone that also likes to speak her mind and
not hold anything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This follows accordingly right in line with my other characteristics such as being strong willed. To me
it is just a more negative way of wording strong willed. Being stubborn to me is being strong in your
opinions and thoughts which I for sure am.I do not see this as weakness and never will.Something that
I do consider a weakness is the inability to relax myself. I am constantly going and thinking. It is hard
for me to turn off my thoughts, especially with my anxiety disorder mixed in with my personality
type. I am a factual person I look at real world statistics and follow them, no dreaming of possibilities
which makes it hard for me to express my emotions. Mostly because my emotions consist of facts and
if i m expressing them it is straightforward and extremely truthful which can scare people or come off
as mean. I usually just keep my thoughts in my head that way I can not hurt

Cosmopolitanism In Things Fall Apart And Kwame Anthony Achebe
Throughout life, one is faced with choices between individualism and communitarianism. Such
choices are reflected in many works of literature, including Chinua Achebe s novel Things Fall Apart
and Kwame Anthony Appiah s Cosmopolitanism. The current report examines the first reading in the
context of the second. Achebe s story is about the clash between tradition and change in an African
village; Appiah s work advocates a unified perspective from which we are seen to be connected
through basic humanism. The basic assumption of this author is that when one applies Appiah s idea
of obligation to others in Cosmopolitanism to the character of Okonkwo in Achebe s Things Fall Apart
(who is also the book s protagonist), the character changes in terms of how his fate or destiny is
conveyed, as well as other aspects of his development. Although Okonkwo is a character of
complexity, depth, and three dimensionality, one of his chief features is his resistance to change. This
resistance is personal in nature, and Okonkwo then tries to impose this personal resistance on a greater
community, rather than listening to it. By emphasizing the failure of the personal over the communal
in Okonkwo s actions, Achebe draws sharp parallels between people helping each other and people
driving each other towards entropy. According to Appiah, cosmopolitanism can be defined according
to several of its divisions: One is the idea that we have obligations to others, obligations that stretch

Puritan Depravity and Distrust in Young Goodman Brown
Puritan doctrine taught that all men are totally depraved and require constant self examination to see
that they are sinners and unworthy of God s Grace. Because man had broken the Covenant of Works
when Adam had eaten from the Tree of Knowledge, God offered a new covenant to Abraham s people
which held that election to Heaven was merely a possibility. In the Puritan religion, believers dutifully
recognized the negative aspects of their humanity rather than the gifts they possessed. This shadow of
distrust would have a direct influence on early American New England and on many of its historians
and writers, one of which was Nathaniel Hawthorne.
The influence of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hawthorne sets Young Goodman Brown into a context of Puritan rigidity and self doubt to allow his
contemporary readers to see the consequences of such a system of belief.
Hawthorne s tale places the newly wed Puritan Brown upon the road to what may or may not be a true
conversion experience. The conversion experience a sudden realization brought about by divine
intervention, a vision, or perhaps a dream easily translates into the dream allegory of Hawthorne s
work and allows the author to use Puritan doctrine and the history of Salem to argue the merits and
consequences of such a belief. Major issues and themes of Puritanism must have been researched and
delicately placed into Hawthorne s discussion of not only past consequences of Puritan zeal but also
on the contemporary religious issue of his own time, the Second Great Awakening. Much like the
nighttime witches Sabbath that awaits Goodman Brown, the tent revivals of the 1820 s and 1830 s
could be seen by the questioning Hawthorne as another attempt by the church to sway its membership
towards total obedience and faith. The importance placed on this event by Goodman Brown shows the
importance placed on the conversion experience

Tompkins Conservation
Deforestation, pollution, poaching, and soil abuse are just four of the innumerable factors that lead to
deleterious effects on the environment. With more and more trees falling under the determined
chainsaws and axe blows of illegal loggers and soil loss from tenuous irrigation methods, South
American governments have a rising concern to protect its ecosystem. But an unusual, and equally
controversial, solution came not within the restraining bounds of the country borders, but from the
efforts of the American multi millionaire and philanthropic conservationist, Douglas Tompkins.
Concerned about the ecology of South America, Tompkins purchased sumptuous strips of forest land
to shield it from the venomous ways of poachers and illegal loggers. ... Show more content on

The best solution to this imminent conflict would be for Tompkins to expropriate a sizeable chunk of
his land to national conservatories to ensure the public had sufficient access to public road, ancestral
grounds, and water and mineral rights. However, he should also maintain a steadfast determination to
keep most of his land as long as necessary to ensure it has recovered from past human interactions and
see it delivered safely into the hands of Argentine conservatories. As a whole, his campaign to
conserve the environment has been successful and beneficial both to him and the ecosystem. In
culmination, Tompkins, as a conservational philanthropist, has inaugurated his conservational efforts
to accumulate a sizeable portion of foreign nations. Due to lawmakers and local residents rising
concern of his control of natural resources and his property blocking public transportation routes, he
must devise a solution that will satisfy both conservational and public demands. Thus, the most
effective and equitable solution would be to sequester most of his land to local conservation efforts, so
as to ensure the government had adequate control over its natural resources and access to ancestral

Forgiveness Found in Poetry, Drama, and Fiction
Posed to reflect upon the three units of study this semester, consisting of Poetry, Drama, and Fiction to
ascertain which genre is the most significant in influencing me, I am perplexed to choose only one.
Remarkably, I found in each of the genres explored insightful and supportive content from each unit
that has enabled me to hone in and accept my humanity as a parent. Connecting with characters from
each genre brought about a significant awareness and sensitivity. Regardless of geographical location,
date in time, structure of society, gender, race, or age, it is refreshingly evident in the midst of all the
contrasts there is a commonality; we are all imperfect humans. Each genre enhanced my credence of
making mistakes as we go through this journey of life, it is clear we struggle not only as humans but
more significantly, for this reader, as parents. Parents attempt do what is felt to be right for their
children with well meant intentions. Unfortunately, this sometimes becomes more of a learning
process for the parents involving mistakes for which we need forgiveness. At times greater mercy is
required when our flawed human nature is revealed by our mistaken repetition of the mistake, which
can create a greater burden adding regret. I find myself sympathetically identifying with these
characters, as they too walk the bumpy road of when your best isn t good enough. Frequently while
reading I found myself thinking or muttering I am not alone! or It isn t just

The Gargoyle
There exists no power as inexplicable as that of love. Love cannot be described in a traditional
fashion; it is something that must be experienced in order for one to truly grasp its full enormity. It is
the one emotion that can lead human beings to perform acts they are not usually capable of and to
make sacrifices with no thought of the outcome or repercussions. Though love is full of unanswered
questions and indescribable emotions, one of the most mystifying aspects of love is its timeless nature.
Love is the one emotion, unlike superficial sentiments such as lust or jealousy, which can survive for
years, or even generations. In the novel The Gargoyle, the author, Andrew Davidson, explores the idea
of eternal love between two people, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is left with the decision of letting Marianne be free from her 700 year entrapment on earth, or
sticking with sanity and not letting her carry through with her insane intentions. When all is said and
done, the reader is left with two questions: Was Marianne simply crazy or was she schizophrenic? or
was she telling the truth and the love between her and this man did and will always continue to exist?
The book ends with the reader having to come to a conclusion on their own. The way Davidson uses
imagery and intricacy to reveal Marianne s past life through her stories will engulf one into the novel
and make one feel like they are truly in the century in question. As Marianne tells her stories, the
emotion from her and the man pours off the pages and the reader is all but helpless to surrender to
feeling sympathy and fret for the characters. The flashbacks are so seamlessly inserted into the text
that the reader will sometimes lose track of which world he or she is in, the modern one, or the 14th
century. Davidson also considers historical continuity in the stories that are told, and because of this
the reader will not only be lost in the story, but also gain a wealth of knowledge about ancient religion,
forgotten traditions, and origin of literature from all of Davidson s

Kate Chopin s An Hour
Author Kate Chopin is famous for some of the most influential feminist stories and novels in the
Western canon. The Story of an Hour is one such text. In this story, Chopin tackles many of the
concerns that are essential to feminism, including the willpower and expression of a woman s
distinctive identity separate from the identity of her husband and the right of a woman to identify and
experience her own interests. While there is an aspect of this story that is provocative, namely, that
Mrs. Mallard feels excited after learning that her husband has died, the reader can empathize with
Mrs. Mallard s feelings and support her.
Critics on Kate Chopin seem to focus their criticism on her themes and particular text than her overall
writing skills. One popular book for critics seems to be her novel The Awakening. The book is now
herald as her greatest work, yet when it was written reviewers rejected it for its improper and vulgar
subject matter (Stripe). One critic deems it not a healthy book, and another determine that it leaves one
sick of human nature. One writer even said the language to describe the story was not fit for
publication (Stripe). But today The Awakening is widely embraced, and one critic in embracing the
book said, Mrs. Kate Chopin s The Awakening, seems to me to be the finest novel of its sort written by
an American, and to rank among the world s masterpieces of short fiction (Cantwell).
The short story is a powerful tale about a woman, Mrs.

Cultural Attitudes Regarding Social Policy
Cultural attitudes regarding social policy often change with time. One of the best ways to analyze the
changing culture of a society is by examining the progression of its laws. The laws governing
marijuana have varied widely throughout the history of the United States. Tracking the path of laws
regarding marijuana is a demonstrable example of social change; those laws having gone from one
extreme to the other and back. There has been a fundamental change in cultural attitude regarding the
legalization of marijuana. Examples of this shift can be seen by examining the history of marijuana
before it was illegal, why the laws changed to make in illegal (even a felony), the change in attitude,
the racial aspect, modern legislation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hemp was allowed to be exchanged as legal tender in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland (2) .
Following the Mexican revolution of 1910, Mexican immigrants flocked to the U.S. and introduced
the recreational use of cannabis by smoking its leafs. They called the substance marijuana. The fear
and prejudice about the Mexican immigrants became associated with marijuana. Anti marijuana
campaigns were initiated in the 1920s for many reasons. Newspaper industry executive, William
Randolph Hearst, felt threatened that the supply of hemp, which was a cheaper and stronger fiber than
paper, would undercut paper prices. Hearst, in addition to being a newspaper executive, had financial
holdings in timber, the main component of paper. He used negative propaganda published in his
newspapers to create public fear. The claim that Mexicans were committing crimes and attributing it to
their marijuana use was a result of the propaganda, shifting the cultural attitude against marijuana. By
the 1930s. unemployment caused by the Great Depression, increased the outrage toward the Mexican
immigrants, as they usurped ever shrinking number of American jobs. The fact that the Mexicants
were associated with marijuana use resulted in a negative public impression. In 1936 the infamous anti
marijuana movie Reefer Madness was released. The film depicts a group of teenagers smoking
marijuana and proceeding to do mischievous acts from a hit and run accident, to manslaughter,

Everyone Focused On Zuckerberg s Hoodie
Designer clothing, luxury cars, flashy handbags. These are just a few of the status symbols that
differentiate the rich from the poor. These items are often used to determine the who s who in today s
society by showing off wealth and status. Although others should not be based solely on their income,
this judgement is sadly commonplace. The rich and the poor are segregated both by accident and on
purpose in many situations and the lower class is the one that deals with the brunt of that
discrimination. As the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, the upper class loses familiarity with the
problems that typical Americans face (Palacios). Two articles that highlight this issue are Why is
Everyone Focused on Zuckerberg s Hoodie by Somini Sengupta and The Logic of Stupid Poor People
by Tressie McMillan Cottom. In Sengupta s article she discusses the simple, yet iconic hoodie often
worn by Mark Zuckerberg and why it is so much more than it seems. She goes into the many theories
why he may wear it and has a twist ending by alluding it to the shooting of Trayvon Martin (230). In

using casual language and slang speech such as this, it makes Cottom seem like any normal, everyday

portrayed by her speech is an effective way of communicating her story of growing up in a poor

Reading Lolita In The Tehran And The Underground Girls Of...
Both Reading Lolita in the Tehran by Azar Nafisi and The Underground Girls of Kabul by Jenny
Nordberg are works of nonfiction documenting the lives of women in the turbulent political
environments in the Middle East. Being a woman, particularly an educated one, during the 80 s and 90
s in Iran meant a drastic limitation of personal freedoms and expressions through self image and art, a
concept demonstrated through how Nafisi recalls her experience as a literature professor at the
University of Tehran and how her students perceived the books she taught. Nordberg similarly
expresses the sexual discrimination in the Middle East through her documentation of young girls as
they search for a way to achieve personal freedoms by cross dressing as the liberated sex in a post
Taliban Afghanistan. Through her interviews of Kabul s Bacha Posh population, Nordberg establishes
for the Western reader how the maltreated young girls Afghanistan constantly dream of an elusive
freedom granted to their brothers, fathers, and husbands, and how few establish the otherwise
unattainable by presuming the role of a boy for their adolescence. Nafisi s demonstration of similar
sexual oppression is related as a memoir of her students where she utilizes their interpretations of 20th
century western literature to serve as a reflection of the lives of her student through sexual oppression
and conflicting political and religious factions. Nordberg s The Underground Girls of Kabul employ

The Evolution of Anticruelty Laws
Soon, many groups were concerned about how animals were being treated. Anticruelty laws were first
passed in Great Britain. The United States quickly followed, responding to the animal welfare groups;
insisting that the government needed to act to prevent unnecessary cruelty to animals (Judson 20).
This movement grew rapidly across the United States. In 1829, New York passed the first anticruelty
law prohibiting the malicious injuring or killing or farm animals such as horses, oxen, cattle or sheep.
By 1907, every single American state had passed anticruelty acts. By 1923, most states prohibited the
practice of neglecting and abandonment, cockfighting, and some types of hunting methods of animals
(Judson 21). Throughout the 1800s, animal welfare groups in Great Britain and the United States
pushed for their governments to pass laws to protect animals from methods such as slaughter and
animal experimentation. In 1824, welfare groups in London were already being formed. The first
society was formed, called the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Guither 2).
Later, in 1835, public policy was passed in Great Britain to consolidate and amend the several laws
relation to the cruelty and improper treatment of animals (Guither 2). Decades later, in 1911,
Parliament passed the Protection of Animals Acts, which is still n effect today. Harold D. Guither,
author of the book Animal Rights: History and Scope of a Radical Social Movement, describes this

A reflection of Odysseus and Modern Day Heroes The...
Written about two thousand and seven hundred years earlier, the Odyssey is still influencing modern
storytelling today. Odysseus, the legendary Greek king of Ithaca and protagonist of Homer s epic
poem the Odyssey was recognized as a great hero of his time. He was known for his defining qualities
of superior strength and athleticism, sharp intellect, sensual ness, and a thirst for glory. These
character traits are still being used to attribute modern day fictional heroes such as Neo, Captain Jack
Sparrow, James Bond, and Spiderman. Accordingly, the heroic qualities of Odysseus can be still be
seen in today s modern day fictional heroes.
Odysseus s superior strength and athleticism resembles to modern day character of Neo in The Matrix.

Both Sparrow and Odysseus use this type of sharp cunning intellect to get what they need.
Odysseus also shares his trait of sensual ness to women with the modern day hero of James Bond.
There were numerous occasions where Odysseus came across a beautiful woman and lived a luxurious
life with her before continuing his journey home. Three such examples were Calypso, Nausicaa, and
Circe. With Circe in particular, Circe turned all of Odysseus crew into swine, but he was able to resist
her powers, which caused her to fall in love with him. Odysseus then decided to spend a year of
luxury on her island as her lover. Odysseus said, We sat there feasting on unlimited meat and sweet
wine. But when the sun went down and the sacred darkness came over... but I, mounting the
surpassingly beautiful bed of Circe, clasped her by the knees and entreated her (Homer, 164).
Odysseus enjoyed his luxurious life with Circe in an exotic land, but only to a point. Eventually, he
decided to focus on the greater task at hand and return home to Ithaca. James Bond possesses this
same trait of sensual ness towards women throughout all of the bond films. In just about every film,
Bond comes across a beautiful female that he ends up spending an intimate time with before going off
to save the world. In Casino Royal, Bond enters a relationship with Solange. Solange says to Bond,

Goals of the Organization
Setting clear goals is a primary step that an organization needs to take to succeed. This is important as
it ensures that the organization has a clear vision on what it wants to achieve at different stages of
growth.
It also helps in defining the yardsticks, usually quantifiable measures that we can use to objectively
monitor the progress made by the organization and help in determining if its policies and structures
are working as intended.
Finally identifying your goals effectively helps in motivating the employees and improves
communication processes both internal and outside public relations.

functionalities are separate from each other and thus failure of one node may not necessarily affect the
others. * Technology for non financial systems: These include

Old Men Comparison
No Country for Old Men Novel and Film comparison.
In this particular essay, that I am doing for the extra credit, I will be comparing the famous novel No
Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy, 2005 and the correlating film No Country for Old Men ,
directed by Joel Ethan Coen, 2007. I will discuss the similarities and the differences of the film and
the book, blending the difference of genres and leveling the field, allowing to compare.
Staring off, I would like to mention the fact that a comparison of the book and the film is a difficult
thing to do, as these genres are very different in their nature.
Let s start with the novel: as a lot of Cormac McCarthy s novels this one is a stylized gothic Western ,
its intense and both depressing, emotional and fascinating to read with its vivid imagery and gripping
plot. McCarthy s blood soaked Mexican border, hitmen, gangs, drugs, the rotten aspect of the
government, sociopathic murderers, etc. Lack of punctuation, for me personally, was a lackluster part
of the whole novel. The whole action sequence can be described as chronological, yet, despite the
predictability of some scenes, heavy in its intensity making the thriller natural and the action ... Show

Love And Lust In Play By Play
Lust is an incredibly strong feeling that can prove to be almost uncontrollable, leading it to commonly
be mistaken for love. Due to the relative closeness of these emotions, both are often confused, and
even when one is in love he or she does not recognize it. Many think that love just comes knocking on
one s door and one will know when it does, but they don t realize that for love to occur a relationship
has must be worked out. Love is described by some as fireworks, tingles, and butterflies in the
stomach; but it is lust that can cause these things to happen, and it is these that mark only the
beginning of a relationship. After a while, these feelings die out, and this is when the honeymoon
period is over; it is from this point on that the relationship will either end or get stronger and
eventually lead to true love.
Lust is the main idea behind the poem Play By Play by Joan Murray. The tale being told is of older
women well past their sixties admiring much younger men playing softball from up on a terrace over

Advantage Of Milk Frothers
Is there a better way to start one morning than with a freshly brewed cup of coffee? Having coffee in
the morning is the routine of millions of people around the world. The reason is very simple: it helps
you wake up, clear your thoughts and prepare for the next busy day. Real coffee lovers like to make

By making the bubbles in the milk, the capacity increases and the feelings become clearer. The result
of the use of milk froth is a strong and sparkling coffee with an intense flavor.
Benefits of Milk Frother
There are few advantages of milk frothers. The most obvious is its size. They are usually about thirty
centimeters long so they can be stored anywhere in the kitchen. That is very important because many
do not have kitchens as spacious or enough storage place.
Because milk frothers are usually made of plastic, they are very light. That means that they are
comfortable to use. Also, some foam models come with a glass of beakers. In that case, your only job
is to press the button to activate it.
Frothers are easy to use. Typically, you have the on/off button and the button to adjust the speed of the
skimmers. That is very convenient because you can use the frother at the time you bought it without
first reading the instructions or seeing online tutorials.
Milk frothers are significantly removed and then regular coffee makers. The skimmers are silent when
they are in operation, so you should not worry about the noise.

Miss Piggy And Miss Housekeeping By Claudia Rankine Citizen
Equality? Equality is the state of being equal, however the idea of equality has been such an issue not
only in the past but the present as well. White people believe that they are superior to minorities such
as Women, African Americans and Hispanics because, minorities, are They make women feel inferior,
believe that African Americans are threatening and violent, and think that Hispanics are murderous
and slothful. This is in fact very wrong because they judge people based on what is being said or
events that have no relevance. Minorities are treated unfairly because they are different and are
believed to be less than others. Women have always been seen as though they are below men. This has
been traced all the way back to the days where women had no rights and had no voice or opinion, and
some men still seem to think that way even after so many decades of women s rights. For example, the

that women hold to men in society as the Easternization of the world, the root of good versus evil, and
wilderness versus civilization. These elements are directly correlated to The Western film Shane
(1953) where the classic plot plays out when Shane comes into civilization on his horse with his
moleskins and six shooter to inevitably defeat the villains threatening society. There are 16 parts to the
classical plot according to Wright with some optional, but Shane follows these actions almost
perfectly. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His abilities then transpire as his exceptional ability to shoot is discovered from young Joey and the
rest of civilization including the Rykers, the villains of this film. In the surmounting drama between
the good and evil the obvious nature that women are second two men is continuous throughout the
film observed as Marion and the other women following their husbands orders and only take care of
the children. The women do not get involved with the men s affairs even as the Rykers threaten the
homesteaders existence and their livelihood. This then forces Shane to intervene on behalf of his pride
and his friendship with Joe Starrett. Continuing to follow this classical plot suggested by Wright
Shane ends up defeating the villains and leaving civilization into the wilderness deciding that his
morals are not fit for society even though his actions were to protect

Woodstock Essays
Woodstock 1969 The Sixties were an exciting revolutionary period with great cultural change. Some
people called it the decade of discontent (Britannica) due to the race riots in Detroit and La, and the
demonstrations against the Vietnam War. Other people called it the decade of peace, love, and
harmony (Woodstock 69). This decade was identified as such as a result of the peace movement and
the emergence of the flower children. (Britannica) The sixties were about assassination, unforgettable
fashion, new styles of music, civil rights, gay and women s liberation, Vietnam, Neil Armstrong

Madame Defarge Quotes
Madame DeFarge as a Lioness Madame Defarge, a very important character is Charles Dicken s
novel, A Tale of Two Cities depicts the characteristics of a lioness thought the way that she acts, and
the qualities that she possesses. A lioness is often called a hunter because of its presence in the African
grasslands. A lioness is called this because of its ways of having a pride follow her around, the belief
of being king of the jungle, and the merciless hunters they so often are (Travel). Madame Defarge
depicts a lioness because of the shared characteristics that he has portrayed such as leading a pack by
being seen as the king of the jungle, being loyal to her family and her revenge for her family, and by
being a merciless hunter. Madame Defarge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Madame fulfills this quality by assigning and hunting for people that will be killed when the
revolution comes. Madame is at the front of a mob leading the people to go take over the Bastille
which she is carrying multiple weapons in her hand. The narrator describes her as, Eh, well! Here you
see me! said Madame, composed as ever, but not knitting to day. Madame s resolute right hand was
occupied with an axe, in place of the usual softer implements, and in her girdle were a pistol and a
cruel knife (252 ; bk.2, ch. 21). This shows that she is merciless carrying multiple weapons in her
hand getting ready to kill anyone who stands in her way. Another time that Madame defarge shows
that she has no mercy is when she cuts off the governor s head and then tells a guard to hang him, after
he is beheaded. Dicken s describes the scene

Mackey Arena Game Analysis
Walking into Mackey Arena is like walking into a basketball shrine, filled with history. That history is
built upon the rivalry between Purdue and the school down south, Indiana University. On February 28,
I was fortunate enough to be in Mackey Arena for this historical rivalry game and senior night, a game
that meant Purdue could take the Big Ten Title in a win. Purdue did just that, winning 86 to 75. I was
very pleased with the game and it exceeded all expectations I had for the huge rivalry. As a student
who has been to every home game this season, I joined the lottery system prior to the game so that I
could get a closer seat than those who did not do the lottery. The lottery began the night prior to the
game where students camped out outside Mackey s atrium. I asked Sam Kolczak, a student at Purdue
who camped out for the IU game and the Villanova game back on November 14, 2016, what he
thought about the student involvement for games at Purdue. Kolczak said, I love camping out for these

road against them. I asked Kyle Graham, a senior at Purdue University and also a part of the large

said, It was actually amazing to see them win and do so in such great fashion. When I was a freshman,

Factors That Affect The Water
Drag is a common force in the universe, and occurs in everyday life especially in water. Mr. Redman
states that, forward is a propelling force; drag is a force that hinders that motion or is the force acting
in opposition to the motion of an object. Parachutes are a great example of this force; when air is
trapped in the nylon of a parachute, it creates drag slowing the velocity of the parachutist. Water drag
is acted upon swimmers at all times. Hydrodynamics show that materials of the swimmers closely
affect drag. Swimmers wear sleek swim caps, shave their body, and wear tightly fitted swimsuits all to
reduce friction. Skill level and technique of a swimmer also affect drag resistance. Water is 800 times
denser than air, drag forces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Trucks experience air resistance due to their big and boxy frame. Air constantly pushes against the
shipping containers. Engineers have found a way to combat such a force by adding large hoods or
visors, in which the cab and trailer are connected. The back of the truck is built in a streamlined
fashion, like a plane, to completely extinguish swirling air (Parola, 2000). Another example of drag is
frictional forces. Trains, for example, use wheels to move along tracks. These wheels encounter
friction when stopping. Metal on metal gains immense friction and may become hot. This drag is
common among cars and other ground transportation. Engineers have looked to the future to solve this
drag. MAGLEV trains are levitating trains that use magnets for propulsion. This way friction drag is
eliminated, yet air resistance is still a factor. To cut down on air resistance, MAGLEV trains
incorporate aerodynamic principles such as a slim line body to cut through air, that way the force of
air is evenly distributed around the body. Drag also occurs in water called, fluid friction or fluid
resistance. Boats, ships, subs, whales, dolphin, and swimmers all go through fluid rest incense. Much
like air resistance, fluid pushes against the direction in a object is moving. And again much like air
resistance, a streamlined body will reduce this drag. Submarines were once built like boats only they
were underwater. Until 1953 when the us army proposed a

Benefits Of Retirement Plan Will Fit Financial Needs
Introduction
Choosing which retirement plan will fit financial needs is not always the easiest decision to make.
While investing in both traditional and Roth individual retirement accounts (IRAs) appears to draw
considerable attention, differences in the rules for contributing to and withdrawing from these
retirement plans places individuals and married couples in a predicament. They may choose to invest
in either a traditional or Roth IRA while they may also choose to invest in self direct, direct
contribution (DB) or defined benefit (DB) plans sponsored by employers. In any case, individuals and
married couples approaching retirement age should carefully consider their own financial needs before
choosing to invest in any retirement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other types of earned income include alimony and military differential pay, but does not include
interest or dividends from investments, income from rental property and pension payments (para. 3).
In terms of contribution limits for individuals and married couples with a Roth IRA, if earned income
for one year is less than the contribution limits, they may only contribute up the total earned income
amount (para. 4). As of 2014, for individuals and married couples under the age of 50, the annual
contribution limit is $5,500. For married couples filing separately, the earned income limit for making
contributions to a Roth IRA is $10,000. Otherwise, a married filing separately does not have any
eligibility for making contributions to a Roth IRA.
Tax Incentives Both traditional and Roth IRAs have generous tax incentives (Spors, para. 3).
However, claiming the tax incentives for either a traditional or a Roth IRA depends on timing. With
traditional IRAs, contributions made to it based on earned income are tax deductible on both state and
federal income tax returns for each year that an individual or married couple contributes (para. 3).
Withdrawals made during retirement receive the ordinary income tax rate (para. 3). Roth IRAs,
however, do not provide any tax incentives for any contributions made to the account, though earnings
and withdrawals are mostly tax free (para. 3). In other words, with traditional IRAs, contributions do
not have

Financial Crisis Of The Great Depression
Great economic times in America
The Great Recession and the Great Depression are the aftermath of mostly similar economic
difficulties and are only different in a few respects. Each period is marked by a massive run ups in
asset prices followed by a crash in the stock market and sent both debt and equity markets down.
These periods are said to be the worse economic downturn in the country s history. During the great
depression, as banks failed and threatened to shut down the financial system altogether, President
Franklin Roosevelt moved quickly and effectively to address the most dangerous financial crisis of the
Great depression. During the great depression, the stock market collapse that began in October 1929
took away huge amount of wealth due to the greedy activities of the financial institutions who lent out
money hastily and later had less even in their reserves. He created the New Deal which responded to
an unemployment rate that had reached 25 percent, and in some cities as much as 75 percent. He

Frank Herbert s Use Of The Spice In Dune
Theme In Dune, by Frank Herbert, everyone s life depends on the Melange, or the spice. The spice
was a drug that could not be reproduced and only found on the planet Arrakis. Frank Herbert shows in
Dune that there are products like the spice that large populations depends on. First, the Fremen on
Arrakis heavily depends on the spice. The spice is in their everyday food and materials. They use the
spice to make things such as spice paper, spice fibre, and chemical explosives. It is also in their food
and drinks. Paul eats the two leaf wrapped morsels into his hand. They reeked of spice (Herbert 282).
The people also drink spice coffee and spice beer (145). Since spice is so rare, it is also used as a
currency against the Guild. The Fremen use the spice to bribe the Guild to keep [their] skies clear of
satellites and such that none may spy what [they] do to the face of Arrakis. (283). Spice is also used
during the spice trance during the transfer of Reverend Mothers. For the Fremen, they would die if the
spice disappeared. Not only do they use it as parts of objects and consumables, it is also their currency.

Nationalism, a political or social philosophy in which the prosperity of a nation state as an existence is

buffalo bisons, because they were a great source of food to Aboriginals. The word that comes to mind
is ecocide where humans were in charge and responsible of eliminating millions of buffalo s that led
to their extinction for some time. Bison hunting led to mass starvation for Aboriginals. Without the
Bisons that held a spiritual value and component, the ceremonies lost their strength. Children were
taken away from their parents and were put in residential school where children had to grow up with
Christian values and European standards in order to become civilized. Even though Aboriginals could
adapt to any situation, the government did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It shows how not knowing of one thing leads to extinction of a particular type of specie that is
beneficial to the environment. Every specie balances the ecosystem in a way and by disappearing of
one, our nature and environment would be unbalanced. Based on the two stories reviewed, there is a
connection between the extinction of curlews, Bison buffalos, First Nations due to colonization that
came with its own violence and ignorance. Colonialism in many ways has transformed the society and
nature. However, what is inevitable is the destruction of First Nations culture, tradition, and even their
race to the disappearance of some species such as curlews and bisons. Overhunting, habitat
destruction, and eugenicism are what at most cases colonialism has brought to North America and
some other parts of the world. However, what colonization has taught humans is that there is a limit to
every source, whether water, trees, plants, or a particular type of specie which could be a particular
tradition or culture that could be forgotten. In order to survive leaving, it is important to protect
environment, prevent destroying it. and it is because humans are the keystone species that have an

Executive Order 906 Summary
III. FACTS:
During World War II, President Franklin Roosevelt signed executive order 9066 that ordered those
with Foreign Enemy Ancestry to be moved to internment camps. Congressional statues provided the
military the ability to remove Japanese citizens from any area that would be crucial to national
defense. The petitioner was Fred Korematsu and the respondent is the United States. The issue at hand
was Korematsu lived in San Leandro California who was ordered to move to a Japanese internment
camp. After refusing to leave San Leandro Korematsu was arrested and convicted. Korematsu claimed
the executive order was against the fifth amendment. After bringing the case to the court of appeals he
lost and appealed to the Supreme Court and challenged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
COURT DECISION
The Supreme Court decided the case on December 18, 1944. The executive order held and supported
the idea of moving Japanese Americans to internment camps during World War II. The Justices who
supported the United States were Reed, Black, Stone, Douglas, Rutledge, and Frankfurter. The
Justices opposed were Murphy, Jackson, and Roberts. This was a makeup of six votes for the United
States and only three votes against. The Supreme Court agreed with the government to protect the
United states during the war which overruled Korematsu individual rights. VI. OPINION AND
REASONING OF THE COURT:
While the Supreme Court reviewed the case they relied heavily on a case prior, Hirabayashi v. United
States. After the president passed two executive orders giving the secretary of war the ability to
generate military areas. The other order included the ability to remove, supervise, or maintain outside
military areas.
Justice Black s weighed in his opinion which stated:
It should be noted, to begin with, that all legal restrictions which curtail the civil rights of a single
racial group are immediately suspect. That is not to say that all such restrictions are unconstitutional.
It is to say that courts must subject them to the most rigid scrutiny. Pressing public necessity may
sometimes justify the existence of such restrictions; racial antagonism never

Immigrants And The United States
An immigrant is a person who leaves one country to settle permanently in another country or region to
which one is not native. Coming from a whole different lifestyle and culture, those who immigrate
into the U.S. are hit with overwhelming changes. Although citizenship has its advantages, many
immigrants have too much pride or love for their country that they choose to stay immigrants rather
than become fully documented citizens. It is important to understand how they are viewed differently
so people can work towards citizenship. Citizens and immigrants differ mainly in the resources they
are provided with, such as opportunities, work ethic, and education.
One way citizens and immigrants differ is in the opportunities provided for them. For example,
citizens obtain the right to vote in United States federal and local elections, can hold jobs in
government, and serve on juries. United States citizens can also leave and re enter the U.S. at any time
without requiring a re entry permit. There are also no restrictions to how long they can remain outside
of the country. On the other hand, immigrants are denied any of those rights and can only travel for a
certain amount of time or it is considered abandonment of residency and are denied re entry into the

Environmental Policy Essay
The Trump administration has taken the initiative to halt and revert recent environmental regulations,
which were heavily championed by the previous administration. In order to comprehend the direction
of the new administration, this paper will review a couple of the arguments made by proponents who
are for revoking environmental regulations. Additionally, arguments made by the opposition will be
reviewed. Given the dimensionality of the issue, this paper predominantly spotlights the use of coal.

couple of decades. The growing concern for global environmental issues propelled the previous
administration to tackle this dilemma by imposing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, some companies relocate to a different country with less stringent regulations. On March
28, 2017, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to have the Clean Power Plan reviewed,
which would have closed hundreds of coal fired power plants, and frozen construction of new plants
(Davenport 2017). The coal industry is one of those industries being significantly affected by
regulations attempting to address controversial environmental issues. According the National Mining
Association (NMA), the Energy Information Administration (EIA) found that by nullifying the Clean
Power Plan would preserve 240 million tons of annual coal production, saving 27,700 high wage
mining jobs and an additional 99,849 jobs throughout the supply chain (NMA 2017). Furthermore, the
NMA forecasts the Clean Power Plan would harm the wider economy, including households and
businesses. If the policy goes through, the typical annual household electricity bills in 2020 would be
more than a third higher than they were in 2012, or an estimated $680 per family (NMA 2017). Such
an increase on the electric bill can be devastating for low income families struggling to make ends
meet. The negative stigma surrounding coal has also clouded the public s perception, resulting voters
to be misinformed about the industry. Only nine percent of voters are aware coal fueled power plants

The Value of a College Degree
For many families, the idea that higher education for themselves or their children will automatically
improve their social or economic status is a common one. In many situations this can be the case,
however it is not universal. Additionally, many factors come into play when analyzing how
intergenerational mobility does or does not occur. Some of these factors include existing social class,
field of study, undergraduate vs. advanced degrees, race or gender, selection of institution, and
parental resources. The general hypothesis of this study is Is a College Degree Still the Great
Equalizer?
This issue was the source of study by Florencia Torche at New York University. Using different cohort
groups and conducting various survey methods, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this intergenerational status association is weaker among women. In the case of earnings
mobility, a similar U shaped pattern emerges. In cases of earnings distribution, those at the extreme
ends of educational distribution show the strongest association (i.e. individuals with less than a college
degree and advanced degree holders) indicating, a college degree appears to still be a great equalizer
among BA holders but not among advanced degree holders (Torche, 2011). So far, the analysis of
intergenerational mobility as it relates to class, occupational status, and earnings has been restricted to
labor market forces.
When family income mobility is studied, other factors are taken into account such as non occupational
resources and family level processes. Specific examples that were taken into account included parental
transfers of wealth and intergenerational reproduction as it relates to occupational mobility. While the
results of this area of study closely resemble previously discussed results, one interesting point
emerges. The influence of parental income on sons income level is substantial among those without a
college degree, it declines to insignificance among college graduates, and then it regains strength
among advanced degree holders... (Torche, 2011). This brings to light the issue of horizontal

The Emergency Department At Saint Vincent s Medical Center
Introduction Every day in the United States there are 136.3 million people that visit the emergency
department (CDC, 2015). To put this number into perspective that is 44.5 people per 100 persons
(CDC, 2015). 11.9% of these visits result in hospital admission leaving 88.1% of visits to be
discharged home with or without caregiver assistance or to another healthcare facility (CDC, 2015).
While high numbers of patients being discharged is desirable, it is important to consider that In one
out of every 30 discharges things get missed. [For example] patients [are] sent home who didn t know
how to use their insulin or they got the wrong prescription (Maguire, 2011). Another important
statistic to recognize is that Ninety million Americans have difficulty understanding their own medical
care (McCarthy et al., 2012). Similar adverse events and misunderstandings of medical care have been
occurring in the emergency department at Saint Vincent s Medical Center in Bridgeport, Connecticut a
60 bed emergency department with a fast track zone that is classified as a level one trauma center. The
nurse manager of the emergency department at Saint Vincent s stated that many patients were not
being adequately educated during discharge. She placed most of the blame on the nurses as it is the
nurse s responsibility to be educating and providing all patients with clear and concise discharge
instructions. As of right now, most emergency departments do not have discharge instructions that

Post-impressionism and Artists
Impressionism was a movement that came about in the late 19th century, most specifically its roots
can be traced back the 1874 when a group called the Anonymous Society of Painters, Sculptors,
Printmakers, etc. organized an exhibition in Paris. (Samu, 2004). The group led several exhibitions
through the 1880 s which brought them into the spot light despite criticism from the conventional art
community in France. The movement received its name from one of the movements most now most
recognized artists Claude Monet and his piece Impression, Sunrise. It is said that a critic accused the
painting of being a sketch or impression . (Samu, 2004) Paintings of this period tended to be outdoor
scenes and panoramas. My Grandfather, Lawrence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These artists felt that impressionism was missing many key elements including emotional, structural,
symbolic and spiritual representation. (Misialowski, 2006) Artists of this time frame worked, in most
cases, independently and today are most often referred to as Post Impressionists. The style was
defined by vibrant colors, thick paint application, real life subject matter, geometric shapes, and
distortion of objects figures for expressive emotional effect. Some of the key artists of this time
included: Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Georges Seurat. Aristide Maillol and
Edouard Vuillard.
One of my favorite pieces of this time comes of course from van Gogh. The piece is titled
Straßenarbeiter which means Road Workers. The imagery of this piece is rough and course with
distorted views and sharp lines. The shapes of the trees almost draw you away from the what the piece
is actually titled after, the road workers who are shown off in the distance and then again on the left
edge of the painting. The colors give the image a dark look like it is depicting a late fall day with the
workers frantically trying to complete the task before the onset of winter.
Again, like the impressionism movement, there was not really a prime reason for this movement other
than the artists wants to more freely express themselves through their work. The social climate of the
times were changing allowing for

Analyzing David Miller´s Opinion on Immigration
Though immigration is not a new phenomenon in the world s history, it has been notice that now days
immigration has increased more than ever. This is mainly caused because of better ways of
communication and transportation, which it makes it possible to people to move and enter other
countries. However there are many types of immigrations such as economical, retirement immigrants
or even natural disasters immigrants. People sometimes seek a new life to save themselves from
poverty and misery, thus they decide to enjoy the benefits of another country. Still there are other
immigrants who are forced to leave their countries because of wars or even natural disasters, such as
the tsunami in Japan 2011. Some philosophers consider closed ... Show more content on

This has as a result those who really need help are still not being helped, the poor class. He argues that
other countries are not to be blamed for each country false to provide a better life to their people and
that government should be changed their system. As Mill and Rousseau argue that freedom is the best
thing that everyone has and everyone has the right to move wherever they want because of their self
development and their freedom of liberty. Therefore with their claim for freedom rights, that means
that borders restrict freedom of movement and everything else that people have moral rights, such as
working, having friends are been restricted. As Kapur and McHale argues about freedom is that
migrants have the right to live and work where ever they wish. The global liberty principle is that
everyone is completely free to move anywhere (Oberman, 2010). However Miller rejects the concept
of freedom of movement and mentions that there is difference between basic freedom , where people
have their basic rights and bare freedom that people do not have the authority to protect. There are
restrictions in many cases, such as people desire to have more things but are unable to buy and also
they cannot enter anywhere they want at anytime for instance the university hours. Also Miller argues
that few people would agree with the argument that

Visionary Leader Essay
[Title Here, up to 12 Words, on One to Two Lines]
Jim Jones Visionary Leader/Ethical Leader Synthesis Essay
In this essay I will explain why Jim Jones was a Visionary Leader but by no means an ethical leader.
In many ways Jim Jones was decades ahead of his time with regards to social issues. His leadership
helped many disadvantaged people in Indianapolis, Indiana. At first glance it may appear he used his
Visionary Leadership for a higher cause; however his unethical pursuits, ultimately resulted in the
downfall of his church, his followers and himself when 914 members of his congregation committed
suicide after drinking the Kool Aid .

Those people who were deemed not suitable were discarded. By culling his congregation in this
manner Jim Jones was able to build a team, which would fulfill his goal of a socialist utopian society.
Unhappy with the racial climate of the 1960s in Indianna, Jim Jones moved his congregation to
California (Ryan, 2011) in order to further unify the church. By fostering an inclusive environment
(USAF) he was able to create value for the church members. Once the church was moved, Jim Jones
began to develop the next phase of his plan.
While in California Jim Jones met with his inner circle and developed a plan to move his vision of a
socialist society outside the US to avoid government oversight. The team conducted research and
discovered that land in Ghana was cheep and the local population spoke English. A key point in this
phase of his plan was to raise the necessary money to fund the project. This was conducted through an
incremental raising of the recommended tithing from 10% to 25%. Shortly thereafter Jim Jones
convinced his followers to sell all of their belonging and give the money to the Peoples Temple.
Having raised the required money, Jim Jones was ready to begin the next phase of his plan. His
followers were now socially and economically dependent on the Peoples Temple.
Jim Jones formed an advanced team to go to Ghana and prepare the site of the Peoples Temple
compound. After

Characteristics Of Coyote Ecology
The coyote has very distinctive features and is classified as a member of the canine family. They live
in packs and typically mate for life. They are relatively small predators and their ability to adapt well
to the environment around them allows them to live almost anywhere. The coyote s population size
and habitat range has increased over the years. There have been spotting s of coyotes within
residential communities because of human expansion into their territories as well. They shift their diet
depending on the environment they are in. They are susceptible to a few diseases that specifically
affect the dog family. Coyotes typically do not bother people or domesticated pets; however, there
have been rare cases where they have attacked and killed a person. Coyote ecology is important to
understand in order to get a better sense of the environments they live in and how they affect other
wildlife around them. The coyote is a member of the canine family which also includes foxes and
wolves ( Urban Coyote Research ). They are medium in size ( Urban Coyote Research ). Coyotes have
a long, slender muzzle, pointed ears, and a bushy tail resembling a German Shepard ( Urban Coyote
Research ). Their coloration can vary from gray to black, but most are usually a grayish brown with
reddish coloring behind the ears and around the face ( Urban Coyote Research ). Coyotes have yellow
eyes rather than the typical black eyes of domesticated dogs ( Urban Coyote Research ). Most adults

  • 2. Esstj Strengths And Weaknesses All my friends have always called me loyal to a fault aka I would follow anyone I trust over a cliff.Whether this can be considered a strength or a weakness is up to you. Being a ESTJ it is claimed that my strengths include multiple things but the few that I believe directly apply to me are strong willed, direct, and enjoy creating order/organizing.My weaknesses as a ESTJ that I relate too are being stubborn, finding it difficult to relax, and a difficulty in expressing my emotions. Growing up shaped me into who I am today which reflects in my results as a ESTJ. Being described as strong willed is something that has been with me since I was little. To me I take this as a complement as comparatively my sister was the type of person to fly under the radar and try to be a people pleaser.I could never comprehend that because it was just not in my build to do that. I was determined to do things my way because that is all I could understand. Accordingly I am someone that also likes to speak her mind and not hold anything ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This follows accordingly right in line with my other characteristics such as being strong willed. To me it is just a more negative way of wording strong willed. Being stubborn to me is being strong in your opinions and thoughts which I for sure am.I do not see this as weakness and never will.Something that I do consider a weakness is the inability to relax myself. I am constantly going and thinking. It is hard for me to turn off my thoughts, especially with my anxiety disorder mixed in with my personality type. I am a factual person I look at real world statistics and follow them, no dreaming of possibilities which makes it hard for me to express my emotions. Mostly because my emotions consist of facts and if i m expressing them it is straightforward and extremely truthful which can scare people or come off as mean. I usually just keep my thoughts in my head that way I can not hurt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Cosmopolitanism In Things Fall Apart And Kwame Anthony Achebe Throughout life, one is faced with choices between individualism and communitarianism. Such choices are reflected in many works of literature, including Chinua Achebe s novel Things Fall Apart and Kwame Anthony Appiah s Cosmopolitanism. The current report examines the first reading in the context of the second. Achebe s story is about the clash between tradition and change in an African village; Appiah s work advocates a unified perspective from which we are seen to be connected through basic humanism. The basic assumption of this author is that when one applies Appiah s idea of obligation to others in Cosmopolitanism to the character of Okonkwo in Achebe s Things Fall Apart (who is also the book s protagonist), the character changes in terms of how his fate or destiny is conveyed, as well as other aspects of his development. Although Okonkwo is a character of complexity, depth, and three dimensionality, one of his chief features is his resistance to change. This resistance is personal in nature, and Okonkwo then tries to impose this personal resistance on a greater community, rather than listening to it. By emphasizing the failure of the personal over the communal in Okonkwo s actions, Achebe draws sharp parallels between people helping each other and people driving each other towards entropy. According to Appiah, cosmopolitanism can be defined according to several of its divisions: One is the idea that we have obligations to others, obligations that stretch ... • 4. Puritan Depravity and Distrust in Hawthorne s Young... Puritan Depravity and Distrust in Young Goodman Brown Puritan doctrine taught that all men are totally depraved and require constant self examination to see that they are sinners and unworthy of God s Grace. Because man had broken the Covenant of Works when Adam had eaten from the Tree of Knowledge, God offered a new covenant to Abraham s people which held that election to Heaven was merely a possibility. In the Puritan religion, believers dutifully recognized the negative aspects of their humanity rather than the gifts they possessed. This shadow of distrust would have a direct influence on early American New England and on many of its historians and writers, one of which was Nathaniel Hawthorne. The influence of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hawthorne sets Young Goodman Brown into a context of Puritan rigidity and self doubt to allow his contemporary readers to see the consequences of such a system of belief. Hawthorne s tale places the newly wed Puritan Brown upon the road to what may or may not be a true conversion experience. The conversion experience a sudden realization brought about by divine intervention, a vision, or perhaps a dream easily translates into the dream allegory of Hawthorne s work and allows the author to use Puritan doctrine and the history of Salem to argue the merits and consequences of such a belief. Major issues and themes of Puritanism must have been researched and delicately placed into Hawthorne s discussion of not only past consequences of Puritan zeal but also on the contemporary religious issue of his own time, the Second Great Awakening. Much like the nighttime witches Sabbath that awaits Goodman Brown, the tent revivals of the 1820 s and 1830 s could be seen by the questioning Hawthorne as another attempt by the church to sway its membership towards total obedience and faith. The importance placed on this event by Goodman Brown shows the importance placed on the conversion experience ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Tompkins Conservation Deforestation, pollution, poaching, and soil abuse are just four of the innumerable factors that lead to deleterious effects on the environment. With more and more trees falling under the determined chainsaws and axe blows of illegal loggers and soil loss from tenuous irrigation methods, South American governments have a rising concern to protect its ecosystem. But an unusual, and equally controversial, solution came not within the restraining bounds of the country borders, but from the efforts of the American multi millionaire and philanthropic conservationist, Douglas Tompkins. Concerned about the ecology of South America, Tompkins purchased sumptuous strips of forest land to shield it from the venomous ways of poachers and illegal loggers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The best solution to this imminent conflict would be for Tompkins to expropriate a sizeable chunk of his land to national conservatories to ensure the public had sufficient access to public road, ancestral grounds, and water and mineral rights. However, he should also maintain a steadfast determination to keep most of his land as long as necessary to ensure it has recovered from past human interactions and see it delivered safely into the hands of Argentine conservatories. As a whole, his campaign to conserve the environment has been successful and beneficial both to him and the ecosystem. In culmination, Tompkins, as a conservational philanthropist, has inaugurated his conservational efforts to accumulate a sizeable portion of foreign nations. Due to lawmakers and local residents rising concern of his control of natural resources and his property blocking public transportation routes, he must devise a solution that will satisfy both conservational and public demands. Thus, the most effective and equitable solution would be to sequester most of his land to local conservation efforts, so as to ensure the government had adequate control over its natural resources and access to ancestral ... • 6. Forgiveness Found in Poetry, Drama, and Fiction Posed to reflect upon the three units of study this semester, consisting of Poetry, Drama, and Fiction to ascertain which genre is the most significant in influencing me, I am perplexed to choose only one. Remarkably, I found in each of the genres explored insightful and supportive content from each unit that has enabled me to hone in and accept my humanity as a parent. Connecting with characters from each genre brought about a significant awareness and sensitivity. Regardless of geographical location, date in time, structure of society, gender, race, or age, it is refreshingly evident in the midst of all the contrasts there is a commonality; we are all imperfect humans. Each genre enhanced my credence of making mistakes as we go through this journey of life, it is clear we struggle not only as humans but more significantly, for this reader, as parents. Parents attempt do what is felt to be right for their children with well meant intentions. Unfortunately, this sometimes becomes more of a learning process for the parents involving mistakes for which we need forgiveness. At times greater mercy is required when our flawed human nature is revealed by our mistaken repetition of the mistake, which can create a greater burden adding regret. I find myself sympathetically identifying with these characters, as they too walk the bumpy road of when your best isn t good enough. • 7. The Gargoyle There exists no power as inexplicable as that of love. Love cannot be described in a traditional fashion; it is something that must be experienced in order for one to truly grasp its full enormity. It is the one emotion that can lead human beings to perform acts they are not usually capable of and to make sacrifices with no thought of the outcome or repercussions. Though love is full of unanswered questions and indescribable emotions, one of the most mystifying aspects of love is its timeless nature. Love is the one emotion, unlike superficial sentiments such as lust or jealousy, which can survive for years, or even generations. In the novel The Gargoyle, the author, Andrew Davidson, explores the idea of eternal love between two people, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is left with the decision of letting Marianne be free from her 700 year entrapment on earth, or sticking with sanity and not letting her carry through with her insane intentions. When all is said and done, the reader is left with two questions: Was Marianne simply crazy or was she schizophrenic? or was she telling the truth and the love between her and this man did and will always continue to exist? The book ends with the reader having to come to a conclusion on their own. The way Davidson uses imagery and intricacy to reveal Marianne s past life through her stories will engulf one into the novel and make one feel like they are truly in the century in question. As Marianne tells her stories, the emotion from her and the man pours off the pages and the reader is all but helpless to surrender to feeling sympathy and fret for the characters. The flashbacks are so seamlessly inserted into the text that the reader will sometimes lose track of which world he or she is in, the modern one, or the 14th century. Davidson also considers historical continuity in the stories that are told, and because of this the reader will not only be lost in the story, but also gain a wealth of knowledge about ancient religion, forgotten traditions, and origin of literature from all of Davidson s ... • 8. Kate Chopin s An Hour Author Kate Chopin is famous for some of the most influential feminist stories and novels in the Western canon. The Story of an Hour is one such text. In this story, Chopin tackles many of the concerns that are essential to feminism, including the willpower and expression of a woman s distinctive identity separate from the identity of her husband and the right of a woman to identify and experience her own interests. While there is an aspect of this story that is provocative, namely, that Mrs. Mallard feels excited after learning that her husband has died, the reader can empathize with Mrs. Mallard s feelings and support her. Critics on Kate Chopin seem to focus their criticism on her themes and particular text than her overall writing skills. One popular book for critics seems to be her novel The Awakening. The book is now herald as her greatest work, yet when it was written reviewers rejected it for its improper and vulgar subject matter (Stripe). One critic deems it not a healthy book, and another determine that it leaves one sick of human nature. One writer even said the language to describe the story was not fit for publication (Stripe). But today The Awakening is widely embraced, and one critic in embracing the book said, Mrs. Kate Chopin s The Awakening, seems to me to be the finest novel of its sort written by an American, and to rank among the world s masterpieces of short fiction (Cantwell). The short story is a powerful tale about a woman, Mrs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Cultural Attitudes Regarding Social Policy Cultural attitudes regarding social policy often change with time. One of the best ways to analyze the changing culture of a society is by examining the progression of its laws. The laws governing marijuana have varied widely throughout the history of the United States. Tracking the path of laws regarding marijuana is a demonstrable example of social change; those laws having gone from one extreme to the other and back. There has been a fundamental change in cultural attitude regarding the legalization of marijuana. Examples of this shift can be seen by examining the history of marijuana before it was illegal, why the laws changed to make in illegal (even a felony), the change in attitude, the racial aspect, modern legislation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hemp was allowed to be exchanged as legal tender in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland (2) . Following the Mexican revolution of 1910, Mexican immigrants flocked to the U.S. and introduced the recreational use of cannabis by smoking its leafs. They called the substance marijuana. The fear and prejudice about the Mexican immigrants became associated with marijuana. Anti marijuana campaigns were initiated in the 1920s for many reasons. Newspaper industry executive, William Randolph Hearst, felt threatened that the supply of hemp, which was a cheaper and stronger fiber than paper, would undercut paper prices. Hearst, in addition to being a newspaper executive, had financial holdings in timber, the main component of paper. He used negative propaganda published in his newspapers to create public fear. The claim that Mexicans were committing crimes and attributing it to their marijuana use was a result of the propaganda, shifting the cultural attitude against marijuana. By the 1930s. unemployment caused by the Great Depression, increased the outrage toward the Mexican immigrants, as they usurped ever shrinking number of American jobs. The fact that the Mexicants were associated with marijuana use resulted in a negative public impression. In 1936 the infamous anti marijuana movie Reefer Madness was released. The film depicts a group of teenagers smoking marijuana and proceeding to do mischievous acts from a hit and run accident, to manslaughter, suicide, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Everyone Focused On Zuckerberg s Hoodie Designer clothing, luxury cars, flashy handbags. These are just a few of the status symbols that differentiate the rich from the poor. These items are often used to determine the who s who in today s society by showing off wealth and status. Although others should not be based solely on their income, this judgement is sadly commonplace. The rich and the poor are segregated both by accident and on purpose in many situations and the lower class is the one that deals with the brunt of that discrimination. As the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, the upper class loses familiarity with the problems that typical Americans face (Palacios). Two articles that highlight this issue are Why is Everyone Focused on Zuckerberg s Hoodie by Somini Sengupta and The Logic of Stupid Poor People by Tressie McMillan Cottom. In Sengupta s article she discusses the simple, yet iconic hoodie often worn by Mark Zuckerberg and why it is so much more than it seems. She goes into the many theories why he may wear it and has a twist ending by alluding it to the shooting of Trayvon Martin (230). In Cottom s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some examples of this is when she explains that Respectability rewards are a crap shoot (1013) or when she starts the essay by declaring We hates us some poor people (1011). By using casual language and slang speech such as this, it makes Cottom seem like any normal, everyday person you would have a conversation with at the mall or in line at the grocery store. The realism portrayed by her speech is an effective way of communicating her story of growing up in a poor family. Although in many parts of her essay she does use advanced and technical vocabulary, the intermittent casual talk really helps keep the audience focused on the issue at ... • 11. Reading Lolita In The Tehran And The Underground Girls Of... Both Reading Lolita in the Tehran by Azar Nafisi and The Underground Girls of Kabul by Jenny Nordberg are works of nonfiction documenting the lives of women in the turbulent political environments in the Middle East. Being a woman, particularly an educated one, during the 80 s and 90 s in Iran meant a drastic limitation of personal freedoms and expressions through self image and art, a concept demonstrated through how Nafisi recalls her experience as a literature professor at the University of Tehran and how her students perceived the books she taught. Nordberg similarly expresses the sexual discrimination in the Middle East through her documentation of young girls as they search for a way to achieve personal freedoms by cross dressing as the liberated sex in a post Taliban Afghanistan. Through her interviews of Kabul s Bacha Posh population, Nordberg establishes for the Western reader how the maltreated young girls Afghanistan constantly dream of an elusive freedom granted to their brothers, fathers, and husbands, and how few establish the otherwise unattainable by presuming the role of a boy for their adolescence. Nafisi s demonstration of similar sexual oppression is related as a memoir of her students where she utilizes their interpretations of 20th century western literature to serve as a reflection of the lives of her student through sexual oppression and conflicting political and religious factions. • 12. The Evolution of Anticruelty Laws Soon, many groups were concerned about how animals were being treated. Anticruelty laws were first passed in Great Britain. The United States quickly followed, responding to the animal welfare groups; insisting that the government needed to act to prevent unnecessary cruelty to animals (Judson 20). This movement grew rapidly across the United States. In 1829, New York passed the first anticruelty law prohibiting the malicious injuring or killing or farm animals such as horses, oxen, cattle or sheep. By 1907, every single American state had passed anticruelty acts. By 1923, most states prohibited the practice of neglecting and abandonment, cockfighting, and some types of hunting methods of animals (Judson 21). Throughout the 1800s, animal welfare groups in Great Britain and the United States pushed for their governments to pass laws to protect animals from methods such as slaughter and animal experimentation. In 1824, welfare groups in London were already being formed. The first society was formed, called the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Guither 2). Later, in 1835, public policy was passed in Great Britain to consolidate and amend the several laws relation to the cruelty and improper treatment of animals (Guither 2). Decades later, in 1911, Parliament passed the Protection of Animals Acts, which is still n effect today. Harold D. Odysseus, the legendary Greek king of Ithaca and protagonist of Homer s epic poem the Odyssey was recognized as a great hero of his time. He was known for his defining qualities of superior strength and athleticism, sharp intellect, sensual ness, and a thirst for glory. These character traits are still being used to attribute modern day fictional heroes such as Neo, Captain Jack Sparrow, James Bond, and Spiderman. Accordingly, the heroic qualities of Odysseus can be still be seen in today s modern day fictional heroes. Both Sparrow and Odysseus use this type of sharp cunning intellect to get what they need. Odysseus also shares his trait of sensual ness to women with the modern day hero of James Bond. There were numerous occasions where Odysseus came across a beautiful woman and lived a luxurious life with her before continuing his journey home. Three such examples were Calypso, Nausicaa, and Circe. With Circe in particular, Circe turned all of Odysseus crew into swine, but he was able to resist her powers, which caused her to fall in love with him. Odysseus then decided to spend a year of luxury on her island as her lover. Odysseus said, We sat there feasting on unlimited meat and sweet wine. In this particular essay, that I am doing for the extra credit, I will be comparing the famous novel No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy, 2005 and the correlating film No Country for Old Men , directed by Joel Ethan Coen, 2007. I will discuss the similarities and the differences of the film and the book, blending the difference of genres and leveling the field, allowing to compare. Staring off, I would like to mention the fact that a comparison of the book and the film is a difficult thing to do, as these genres are very different in their nature. Let s start with the novel: as a lot of Cormac McCarthy s novels this one is a stylized gothic Western , its intense and both depressing, emotional and fascinating to read with its vivid imagery and gripping plot. McCarthy s blood soaked Mexican border, hitmen, gangs, drugs, the rotten aspect of the government, sociopathic murderers, etc. Lack of punctuation, for me personally, was a lackluster part of the whole novel. After a while, these feelings die out, and this is when the honeymoon period is over; it is from this point on that the relationship will either end or get stronger and eventually lead to true love. • 25. Factors That Affect The Water Drag is a common force in the universe, and occurs in everyday life especially in water. Mr. Redman states that, forward is a propelling force; drag is a force that hinders that motion or is the force acting in opposition to the motion of an object. Parachutes are a great example of this force; when air is trapped in the nylon of a parachute, it creates drag slowing the velocity of the parachutist. Water drag is acted upon swimmers at all times. Hydrodynamics show that materials of the swimmers closely affect drag. Swimmers wear sleek swim caps, shave their body, and wear tightly fitted swimsuits all to reduce friction. Skill level and technique of a swimmer also affect drag resistance. Water is 800 times denser than air, drag forces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Trucks experience air resistance due to their big and boxy frame. Air constantly pushes against the shipping containers. Engineers have found a way to combat such a force by adding large hoods or visors, in which the cab and trailer are connected. The back of the truck is built in a streamlined fashion, like a plane, to completely extinguish swirling air (Parola, 2000). Another example of drag is frictional forces. Trains, for example, use wheels to move along tracks. These wheels encounter friction when stopping. Metal on metal gains immense friction and may become hot. This drag is common among cars and other ground transportation. Engineers have looked to the future to solve this drag. MAGLEV trains are levitating trains that use magnets for propulsion. This way friction drag is eliminated, yet air resistance is still a factor. To cut down on air resistance, MAGLEV trains incorporate aerodynamic principles such as a slim line body to cut through air, that way the force of air is evenly distributed around the body. Drag also occurs in water called, fluid friction or fluid resistance. Boats, ships, subs, whales, dolphin, and swimmers all go through fluid rest incense. Much like air resistance, fluid pushes against the direction in a object is moving. And again much like air resistance, a streamlined body will reduce this drag. The coal industry is one of those industries being significantly affected by regulations attempting to address controversial environmental issues. Some of these factors include existing social class, field of study, undergraduate vs. advanced degrees, race or gender, selection of institution, and parental resources. So far, the analysis of intergenerational mobility as it relates to class, occupational status, and earnings has been restricted to labor market forces.
