The US interest in Somalia is best summarized by the United States Africa command
(USAFRICOM) mission. Listed on the USAFRICOM website, the mission
cornerstones are to Deter and Defeat Transnational Threats, Prevent Future
Conflicts, Support Humanitarian and Disaster Relief, and Protect U.S. Security
Interests. Due to the lack of a national government, the country has been a hot bed
of terrorism. The al Shabaab militia group has been especially active in the region
and has carried out attacks in the neighboring countries of Kenya and Ethiopia. Al
shabaab claimed responsibility for the bloody four day siege at the upscale mall in
Nairobi, which began on September 21, 2013 and left 67 people dead Kenyans and
foreigners among them. The terrorism concern is not just Somalia and the
neighboring countries concerns but rather a global issue. The group is linked to al
Qaeda which has been a big concern for the US. The Anti Defamation League on
their article titled Al shabaab s American Recruits reports that at least 50 U.S.
citizens and permanent residents are believed to have joined or attempted to join al
shabaab since 2007. The group actively and deliberately recruits young Americans
to join the group. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is actively engaged and
stated that the group is one of its highest priorities in terrorism. Times magazine on
their article Al shabaab Leader killed in Drone Strike illustrates the commitment of
the US to fight the group. Adab Garar a key operative responsible for coordinating al
Shabab s external operations, which target U.S. persons and other Western interests
was killed in the strike. Additionally, the group is notorious for piracy along the Gulf
of Aden. Piracy has disrupted maritime security in the region adversely affecting

In this book Junior is best friends with Rowdy, Rowdy is known as a bully around

outside the reservation Rowdy gets angry because he believes that Junior is

A Froebel classroom shares the ideals of its originator, Friedrich Froebel who
originated the idea that children learn best through play. Play is seen as the avenue

Froebel classrooms believe that younger children should be taught much differently

1764, by Horace Walpole. This novel is a Gothic novel, and I will be writing an

In this novel Otranto , Manfred has a son that gets killed and no one knows how or
why. His son is to be married to Isabella, but things go a different direction when
she finds out that Manfred wants to marry her now. When Manfred pursues

In 1929 Erich Maria Remarque published a vivid novel that highlighted the
brutality of war, All Quiet on the Western Front. Remarque takes the reader on the
journey of nineteen year old Paul Baumer, a young soldier fighting on the front
line for Germany during World War I. Despite its critical acclaim, this celebrated
war novel did little to celebrate war. As Paul s story progresses, one by one, he
watches all of his friends die. The friendly farmer Detering is driven mad by
homesickness and is caught as a deserter and convicted by marshal court. Muller is
fatally shot in the stomach during a battle and dies a slow and painful death. He
gifts the boots given to him by Kemmerich to Paul. Leer dies after bleeding out
from a deep wound in his thigh. Eventually only Paul and Katczinsky as the last
two surviving friends. However Kat receives a severe injury to his shin and Paul
must carry him to safety. Paul makes it to a triage station only to discover that Kat,
whom he had been carrying on his back, had been hit in the head and killed by a

Have you ever been stranded in the middle of the ocean with a 450 pound adult
bengal tiger? Well according to Pi Patel he has and survived nearly 300 days in that
predicament. In the book Life of Pi, Yann Martel s character Piscine Molitor Pi Patel
survives a shipwreck and ends up on a lifeboat with a variety of animals one of which
being a bengal tiger. The story starts out with Pi telling the author he can make him
believe in God with his story. Throughout the story Pi tells a great tale of his
experiences on the lifeboat with the tiger but the only thing is that s exactly what it
is, a tale. The real story comes at the end of the book when two Japanese men
question Pi about the sinking of the Tsimtsum and Pi tells a different story because
the men did not believe the animal one. The second story has humans instead of
animals therefore making it the more reasonable story. So the human story is real
because it is the more feasible option, being alone for a very extended amount of
time can cause a person to lose their sanity, and some of the things that Pi mentioned
were a little far fetched.
The human story is the all around most reasonable story obviously. There is no
way that Pi could survive nearly 300 days with such a big predator. Also being on
a lifeboat with very limited resources it is clear that a bengal tiger would take
advantage of Pi being there and kill him. Like stated in the book animals do not think
about what they are doing, I don t think about it.

Nineteen minutes into Orson Welles s masterpiece Citizen Kane, the audience
sees titular character Charles Foster Kane as a boy playing with his sled in the
snow. This scene acts as the beginning of the story, while the film s plot begins
with Kane s death and last words, Rosebud. The film follows with flashbacks and
journalistic investigations to solve the meaning of Rosebud, until one of the last
shots of the film reveals the word painted across Kane s childhood sled as it burns
