The Issue Of Abortion On The United States Essay
The topic I have selected to write about in this research paper is the issue of Abortion, My thesis in
this paper is to analyze the history of abortion in the United States prior to the Roe vs. Wade decision
and afterwards, and to demonstrate the ways in which our two major political parties views on this
issue have shifted over time along with the public s view on the issue. Abortion has been practiced for
most of human history. The ancient Greeks and Romans practiced it, although not all ancient thinkers
had the same views on abortion. Ancient Greek father of medicine (Britannica) Hippocrates was
against the procedure; in the Hippocratic Oath doctors had to swear, To not give a woman an abortive
remedy. (University of Virginia) Ancient Greek thinker Aristotle believed that fetuses gained a soul 40
days after conception for male fetuses, and 90 days after conception for female fetuses, a process of
which he termed ensoulment (BBC) The Bible is inexplicably quiet on the issue.(BBC) Jesus said
nothing about the practice of abortion neither did the apostles; It is through early Christian writings
such as The Didache (Ante Nicene Fathers, Vol. 7.) that abortion was inexplicably condemned by the
fledgling Christian Church and in turn all of Christendom. Between the 5th and 16 century views on
abortion changed as abortion came to gradually become acceptable as long as it was performed before

Starting a Family with Surrogacy Adoptions in Madison, ID
In today s world, there are a number of ways a couple may start a family. Traditionally, the only
options were natural conception or adoption. However, parents may now start a family using
surrogacy adoptions in Madison, Idaho. Surrogacy adoptions in Madison, Idaho provide a number of
benefits to the parents. However, the process is lengthy and a number of legal issues are involved,
therefore, having competent legal counsel to assist parents through this process is essential.
During a surrogacy adoption, another woman will carry the couple s child to term on their behalf.
Often, the couple s genetic material will be injected into the uterus of this woman; therefore, the child
she carries may not be biologically related to her. Surrogacy adoption provides parents struggling with
infertility the opportunity to bring a biological child into the world. In other cases, donor eggs or
sperm may be used.
To begin the surrogacy adoption process, the parents should consult an adoption attorney who has
experience in these unique adoptions. The attorney will be able to help the parents find a suitable
surrogate with a clean health record, and will draft the necessary contracts for the parties to sign. With
the assistance of the attorney, the parents will maintain

The Issue Of Illegal Immigrants
No matter what a person s ethnicity or race may be, every person has thoughts, feelings, values,
aspirations, needs, and desires. People are uncomfortable if someone else s values and culture are
different from their own. The term for a group or community fearing another person s perspective and
lifestyle is called ethnocentrism. Ethnocentrism is the reason that American citizen s highly debate and
criticize illegal immigration, arguing that illegal immigrants are drug addicted thieves who thrive off
of stealing American s jobs and harming the United States labor force and the economy. As the
immigration rate progressively rise s it simultaneously concerns those who favor strict immigration
laws and believe that illegal immigrants are harming the United States. However, these assumptions
are hardly fact based and people fail to acknowledge that immigrants are human beings who only want
to help and support their families. The reality is that without illegal immigrants, the United States
would economically suffer.
Actual data shows that immigration has a generally positive impact on a county s economy, what with
immigrants doing work, paying taxes, spending their money in the country and all that. Even parts of
our infrastructure on which the economy depends are owned by foreigners. Places where strong anti
immigrant policies have been enacted usually suffer economic downturns as a result. It seems like
stopping immigration to improve the economy is like hacking your foot

Traditional Gender Roles In The Hours And Virginia Woolf s...
The comparative study of texts and their appropriations reflect the context and values of their times,
demonstrating how context plays a significant role. Virginia Woolf s novel modernists Mrs Dalloway
(1925) and Steven Daldry s post modernists film The Hours (2002), an extrapolation, explore the rapid
change of social and philosophical paradigms of the 20th century, focusing on women whose rich
inner lives are juxtaposed with their outer lives. They place the characters in their respective context,
to respond to, the horrors of the consequences of war and AIDS and the vagaries and difficulties of
relationships, sexuality and mental illness. Through their differing intertextual perspectives the film
and novel represent similar values, within different contextual concerns.
In the novel Mrs Dalloway, Woolf conveys her perspective, as she finely examines and critiques the
traditional gender roles of women in a changing post war society. Woolf characterisation of Clarissa
Dalloway in a non linear structure, presents a critical portrayal of the existing class structure through
modernist s eyes. Titling her novel as Mrs Dalloway presents Clarissa s marriage as a central focus of
her life, drawing attention to how a women s identity is defined by marriage. Despite the changing
role of women throughout the 1920s, for married women life was the same post war. Clarissa
experiences the oddest sense of being herself invisible...that is being Mrs Dalloway...this being

Dawson Lumber Company
Last four digits of student ID #:
Name of the business: Dawson Lumber Company
Nature of the business: Wholesale Lumber Business
Marketing Analysis:
The Dawson Lumber Company was founded in the 1870s by the Dawson family to market the lumber
on their land. In 1950, Dawson Lumber owned four small lumber yards in the Corn wall area, each
operating as a separate company. However, in 1965, J.H. Dawson became president and amalgamated
the four companies into the Dawson Lumber Company. The company had acquired seven more
lumber yards north and west of Cornwall, Ontario but further growth was limited by J.H. Dawson s
belief that growth should only be financed by internally generated funds. For over one hundred years,

Financial Analysis:
Strictly speaking, at present the Dawson Lumber Company is being financed by a bank loan. The
company s equity structure constitutes common stock capital amounting to $4.3 million and the
accumulated earnings. Presently, the company s financing needs are met through two types of bank
loans which include a working capital loan obtained specifically to meet the working capital
requirements and the present long term loan amounting to 4.2 million. Both the loans are obtained
from National bank of Canada (NBC). The NBC took accounts receivable and inventory as collateral
and as a condition of the loan against the charge on the borrowed amount for which Dawson
undertook to provide quarterly financial statements and monthly reports of inventory, sales and
receivables.
Now as far as the company s cash flow is concerned, the company has been suffered with very weak
cash flows because inventory and receivables have increased which result in negative cash flows and
due to increased in accounts payable resulting in positive cash flow thus overall cash generated from
operations remain intact. However as mentioned above it is operational inefficiency due to delay in
collection from customers resulting in delay in payments to creditor. The current ratio is at satisfactory
level.

The Presidential Election Of 1968 Essay
America has always been a proud nation full of nationalism as well. The people, looked up to their
government and their presidents for what to do during the dark days of depression, war, economic
shutdown, and communism. The people knew who their enemies were or at least had a description.
America never truly had a reason to doubt their leaders, those were the people who lead the nation to
victory. Then there was a blow, a crisis that flipped everyone s views and values upside down. There
was an enemy that needed to be defeated, needed to , for this moment was that the so called enemy
was the president himself, Richard Nixon.
He was first seen in the presidential seen was in the 1960 elections against John F. Kennedy, which he
lost. Though he was not discourage and ran again during the presidential election of 1968. After
already losing one election, Nixon was worried about the results, but this time, luck and the electoral
college was on his side this time and won with pretty eye opening results. It wasn t until his re election
where Nixon was really worried, he didn t know what to think about the results, but the only thing he
was sure was that he was going to lose and without doing anything, he was going to watch how bad he
was going to lose the presidency again. He already lost once and he wasn t going to lose another time,
especially to George McGovern. Well, he won. Nixon won in a victorious landslide victory, the
biggest victory in American history.[1] In response

Playground Safety Essay example
Kids love to play outside with their outdoor toys, because that is their job. The job of the parents is to
ensure that diligent attention is paid to the children at play. The National Program for Playground
Safety has reported that inadequate supervision contributed to about 40 percent of all playground
injuries. Swing set safety guidelines have been developed to guide parents, childcare providers and
school officials to the best measures to prevent accidents on playground equipment. In addition to
supervision, the child should be instructed on how to play safely, and the caregiver should ensure that
the child is wearing appropriate play clothes and sturdy shoes.
Location is a key factor in swing set safety guidelines. The area should ... Show more content on

Another important consideration is visibility from the home. If the outdoor toys and equipment are
visible from a kitchen or den, the parents will be able to observe older children who may require less
supervision. An impact absorbing surface is essential since statistics reveal that up to 70 percent of
playground injuries are caused by falls. Asphalt and concrete surfaces should be avoided at all costs.
Shredded rubber has the best impact absorption and does not deteriorate or attract insects. Other
appropriate surfaces include cedar mulch, sand, wood chips and pea gravel. It is recommended that the
material be 9 to 12 inches deep and extend 6 feet from all sides of the equipment.
A leading cause of playground accidents comes from youngsters playing on equipment made for older
kids. Swing set safety guidelines emphasize that kids outdoor toys should be age appropriate. If the
child must be lifted to use the play set, it is not safe for them to play on. Monkey bars constructed
above the swings should be avoided, because falling on a swing below can result in serious injury.
Monkey bars should stand alone and be separate from the swing set. Many swing sets have a fort with
a slide attached. Most slides are 10 feet long which requires a 5 foot high deck on the fort, and this is
appropriate for younger children.
There are many resources online to learn about swing set safety guidelines. The National Program

Seamus Heaney
Seamus Heaney s Background and Poetry Seamus Heaney had a Roman Catholic upbringing in a rural
area of Northern Ireland. How does his poetry reflect his background? Heaney s poetry is able to
reflect his background by his use of language and the technique he expresses his experiences. I will
cover his background into three sections: his childhood, the community and his reflections. I will start
by looking at his feelings and experiences in the poem Death of a Naturalist . The poet remembers the
time when he was a young child. He saw the reality of what frogs were really like in the outdoors
compared to what was taught in school. In school, the frogs are described like a typical teacher talking
to young pupils. It is very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The finish illustrated how he feared for what was in the pond. He delivers his message very
effectively. He says an unequivocal word in the sentence; and I knew that if I dipped my hand the
spawn would clutch it. He knew that it would clutch his hand showing how positive and definite he
was feeling. The experience had so much impact on Heaney altering his emotions before the incident
occurred. The title is very striking and ironic. The definition of a naturalist is someone who is an
expert in natural history. Heaney was learning nature from direct observation but this stopped him
from ever becoming a naturalist due to the fact that he found it a nightmare. Hence the word Death
The poem is done with unrhymed iambic pentameter lines. The use of onomatopoeia is very frequent
such as: slap and plop , farting and gargled . The continuous, repulsive words help bring the poem to
life and show how terrifying his experience was. E.g. rotted , festered , slobber and slime kings . In the
first section, the poet shows that he has a scientific interest. This is shown by the way he uses the
technical names to call the frogs e.g. bullfrog and frogspawn rather than the patronizing words daddy
and mammy from the teacher. The second section is like vengeance and a punishment in the eyes of
the young poet. Heaney possibly never got past the simple idea that the frogs were not just mammy or
daddy frogs. The

The Risky Venture of Currency Trading
Currency Trading Currency trading is a very risky venture especially when an investor doesn t
understand the market fundamentals. All types of business ventures have associated risks which vary
from country to country subject to the financial infrastructure and the monetary policies in place.
Other main economic drivers have to be taken into account as they contribute immensely to the
stability of the host country s currency against the hard currencies to determine the exchange rates
depending on the currency regime in place. Some of the main risks which are associated with currency
trading include; volatility, exchange rate risk, credit risk, monetary risk, interest risk and a possibility
of government intervention in the financial markets. For purposes of this paper Japan has been picked
as the country to be discussed. The Japanese currency is valued in Yen which is the official legal
currency and is universally accepted for carrying out major transactions within Japan. The exchange
rate between the US Dollar (USD) and the Japanese Yen (JPY) is one USD is equivalent to 78.46 JPY.
The average Bid price is 78.46 JPY/USD and the Ask price is 78.47/USD. It therefore means that
when a total of $90,000 is converted into JPY, the value is 7,061,730 JPY ( OANDA 2012). Japanese
yen has tremendously gained strength against the major currencies of the world. Most investors have
in the recent past switched to changing their currencies into Japanese Yen owing to the stability in

Native American Healing Traditions Could Supplement Modern...
Many traditional Native medicines and healing practices were discouraged with the advent of Western
medicine, but now there is a movement to return to traditional ways (Zubek, 1994, p. 1924). Modern
Western medicine treats the symptoms to cure a diseased state when the body is out of homeostasis.
Native American healing traditions do this as well with herbs and plants suited to the purpose. These
Native healing traditions also include sacred rituals, chants, and purification rites to help bring the
spirit and mind of the afflicted back into balance. In effect, treating the whole person, not only the
disease. A blending of these two healing practices could bring about better prognoses for today s
patients. The purpose of this paper is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The findings of this survey showed that 73.6% agreed with the use of traditional medicines for health
maintenance, 79.2% agreed for benign illness, such as colds or sprained ankles, and 90.3% agreed for
palliative care (Zubek, 1994, p. 1926). Where they disagreed the most was with the use of traditional
healing in the intensive care units, only 16.9% agreed with the use of this treatment for serious illness,
such as cardiac or respiratory compromise, whether in the hospital (21.2% agreed) or as outpatients
(26.4% agreed). Nearly half (48.6%) agreed with using traditional medicines for chronic illnesses,
such as non insulin dependent diabetes or Parkinson s disease (Zubek, 1994, p. 1926). One instance
where physicians were unwilling to allow their patients to use Native medicine was while the patient
is in the hospital, because the physician could be held legally responsible for any treatment
administered while admitted under their care. There is also the problem of differentiating between
legitimate Native healing practitioners and those who would take advantage of anyone not aware of
the proper rituals and techniques that need to be performed (Zubek, 1994, p. 1929). This could be
overcome by having a formalized licensing organization such as is used by Western practitioners (i.e.
American Society of Clinical Pathology [ASCP]). That poses another problem though, as to whether
traditionalists would be willing to have such an organization.

Unifying Japan Essay
The fall of the Japanese Shogun proceeded the end of the Warring States era and it begin the whole
new process of uniting Japan. During the process of unifying Japan, there were three main rulers that
each took a different access to not only Japan, but by reaching relations with the Westerners. The three
main rulers that were involved in this unifying was: Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and
Tokygawa Ieyasu. Before the Isolationism period, the Japanese had already welcomed the Westerners.
The first people were from Portuguese in the 1543. Yet, the Shogunate and Daimayo would keep a
very close contact and business very controlled in Japan. Oda Nobunaga was the first to approached
unification with violence and aggression, but welcomed the Westerners into Japan. One of Oda ...

deported from Japan. Finally Japan closed the doors to the outside world and forbid Japanese from
leaving the country. They also prohibited Japanese that left the country and westerners from returning

unify their own country without any of the Westerners influences.
The Daimayos had a generosity by having contact with the west to enhance Japan s trade. The
Japanese would buy silver and copper from the Dutch and sold silk to them. They were also able to

Analysis Of The Film The Golden Girls Essay
Since the age of nine, I ve had a dream of becoming a screenwriter, and a movie producer. Where
others only want to see a show or a movie, I have always wanted to be behind the scenes in the
creation of the art. Being behind the scene and being involved in the creation of the film has always
fascinated me. When I was a in 3rd grade I remember watching the Golden Girls. One Saturday
morning, I turned to Lifetime, and there was an elderly lady who was so short and cute, I just could
not turn the channel. The woman s name was Sophia and she made me laugh from the time I had
started watching the TV show until it had gone off. That day Lifetime was running a marathon of the
Golden Girls; those four ladies made me giggle, and smile. So it was then that I started to wonder
about who is behind the TV shows and movies, because I saw myself being that person. At that time I
did not know about a producer or film maker all that I knew is that I wanted to become a part of tv
shows. The Golden Girls made me want to have my own TV series that was just as funny, and that
would make people laugh just as I had done when I watched it. I began carrying a notebook and a pen
everywhere I would go. I would jot down funny lines, and different ideas for scripts for a movie or a
TV series. I then realized that I wanted to become a screenwriter and a film producer. As a
screenwriter, I want to create TV series that brings joy and comfort to all people, no matter what. My

Analysis Of Disney Princess Films
The Disney princess films are some of the most common in the world today. Because of their
popularity, these works speak and evaluate, in significant detail, by various scholars. Numerous people
disapprove these films for their seemingly sexist and oppressive gender messages. They find fault with
the princesses serving as role models for young girls. Though, when one attentively scrutinizes the
movies and compares the individualities of the princesses to the progressive woman of their time, one
may obviously see the positive messages. While looking specifically at Disney princesses, the
characterization of females and their roles can be described in a few ways. One, the original portrayal

A number of children s literature are progressively becoming produced with reverse gender roles. In
fact, Merida s heroism is why Brave signifies a turning point for Disney (Garabedian, 2014). Modern

characters. Merida is no damsel in distress!
Furthermore, princess Tiana from Princess and the Frog additionally became a princess who reversed
the female stereotypical role. She presents young girls to other cultures and ethnicities just as Mulan,
Pocahontas, and Jasmine from Aladdin. The encouraging portrayal of diverse races and genders
increases young girls self esteem. This evidently benefits Disney princesses impact on adolescent
girls. Most importantly, princess Tiana is also a resourceful and talented person and the rare fairy tale
heroine who is not saved by a prince (Barnes, 2009). From the beginning, Princess Tiana

hard work is required, and wishing upon a star is only a small if not trivial factor. The Princess and the

Universal Health Care
In 2007, more than 45 million Americans did not have health care insurance. The United States is the
only industrialized major nation in the world without health care, and the debate about changing that
has become a popular issue recently. The sharp difference between the two sides is a difference in
ethical values; those for universal health care desire to see the government help others, mainly the
lower class, and those who do not, wish that private companies be allowed to continue taking
advantage of the status quo for profit. In this paper, I will argue why the Government should put in
place The Universal Healthcare Systems.[1]

Private insurance companies can inflate the price of their service if they desire. A universal healthcare
system prevents that because it is run by the government.[2]
I personally understand health care cost, and spending is a major concern for our society. Many
governments around the world have established all embracing health care, which takes the burden of
health care expenses off of private businesses or individuals through pooling of financial possibility.
There are tons of arguments for universal health care, and related health care practices. Health care is
an important part of health systems, and therefore, it often accounts for one of the largest areas of high
spending for both governments and individuals all over the world. For example, medical debt is now a
leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the United States. A policy should be created to help lower the
cost of health care.2
One way that would help improve health care spending is to create a universal health care to make
sure everyone is covered. By creating this, it will help decrease the number of lobbyers which in turn
will cut government funding to those special interest groups. There are 45 million Americans
uninsured and according to CNN report, 45,000 Americans die each year due to lack of affordable
health care. So by creating a universal health care system, we can be sure to expect to see a longer
lifespan for our population as is the case in countries that

Selecting Select A Coaching Style
In order to determine what behaviors would be effective in inspiring James to be productive, James s
supervisor needs to make select a coaching style that would be most effective in encourage James to
develop his skills, knowledge, and capabilities. According to Aguinis (2013), there are four different
coaching styles: driver, persuader, amiable, and analyzer (p. 233). The driver style describes a tactic
that entails the coach taking a directive approach to coaching the employee (Aguinis, 2013, p. 233).
According to Aguinis (2013), a coach who use the driver style tends to be assertive and quick to speak
and usually speak about tasks and facts and usually omits personal feelings (p. 233). Conversely, the
persuader coaching style describes an approach in which the coach explains the benefits of the coach s
directives (Aguinis, 2013, p. 233). Aguinis (2013) states that, like the driver coaching style, the
persuader coaching style denotes coaches that are assertive, yet talk more about feelings and
relationships (p. 233). Aguinis (2013) also states that the amiable coaching style emphasizes the
importance of feelings and intuition as a guiding principle in coaching (p. 233). Lastly, the analyzer
coaching style is inclined to follow logic, rules, and standardized procedures (Aguinis, 2013, p. 233).
In addition, the analyzer coaching style is likely to enlist the use of facts and tasks in its approach,
much like the tactics used in the driver coaching style (Aguinis,

Amusing Ourselves To Death Chapter Summary
America is a nation that focuses on entertainment and obsesses with what we see on screen, so much
so that it has shaped our modern form of discourse. In his book, Amusing Ourselves to Death, Neil
Postman discusses the way that television has shaped the American culture. He makes the argument
that television has now crept its way into the education system, therefore enforcing the idea that
teaching and learning must now be made entertaining.
Postman titles the tenth chapter of his book Teaching as an Amusing Activity to introduce his views on
the impact television has made on education. Postman s belief was that the popularity of television
pushed education and learning to be more entertaining, and now American children are unable to learn
properly in a classroom. Even television that is meant to provide an educational purpose fails to do so
in the way that a traditional classroom does.
In the opening of the tenth chapter of his book, Postman mentions Sesame Street and its immediate
popularity among children, parents, and educators. The program seemingly encouraged children to
learn by making learning fun, but then raised the issue that children wouldn t want to learn unless the
information was presented to them in a more entertaining way. Postman made the argument that
Sesame Street undermines what the traditional idea of schooling represents (143) and so its viewers
were trained to love television, not learning. Further, Postman does not even believe that Sesame

Chaos In The Crucible
Order Leads to Chaos: The Irony of the Witch Trials In 17th century Massachusetts the Puritan
government was a theocracy. They did this to restore order and have a Holy Community. In the

There are a series of trials and multiple people are killed. In the Crucible, in an attempt to keep order
and maintain a holy community greater chaos emerges. In the Crucible, the people of Salem are
determined to keep order and to maintain a holy community. For example, Paris says to Abbigail,

if a teenage girl faints in front of them then they are found guilty of witch craft. This displays the
opposite image of a peaceful and godly community. People are lying and being killed for working for
the devil even though both those acts are sins. They are so afraid of the devil yet they are committing
his acts. When Mary Warren was being questioned about lying, Danforth asked her, Do you not know
that God damns all liars? (Miller 101). Even though he is naming God he really means that they will
damn her. He is declaring the government s right to do as they believe God would do. But even though
they believes that those who lie should be condemned he is not condemning the real liars. The real
liars are being treated like saints while the honest and good people are being killed. It shows that their
society has become the opposite of what it was

Abols And Symbolism In Yann Martel s Life Of Pi
Do bananas really float? This is a problem that two characters in Life of Pi struggled comprehending
towards the end of the the story. Life of Pi by Yann Martel is about a boy named Pi Patel that ends up
stranded on a lifeboat with a tiger, in the Pacific. In Life of Pi a major key thematic statement that
Yann Martel makes during Pi s journey is that just because things may seem unrealistic, it doesn t
mean that people cannot overcome or complete a task . Yann uses the island s setting, Pi s religious
development, and the banana symbolism to deliver his thematic message.
First unrealistic task that came about would be the island s setting, along the unusual setting in
general. Not very often, if ever is it usual to hear about being stranded on an acidic island with a tiger,
but as we can see from Yann s story it can happen. Yann sets Pi running into an acidic island made of
no soil, but alge instead. As Pi is explaining to the investigators, they have a really hard time believing
Pi. Pi had been through a lot during his journey, and Yann adds how Pi is hoarding food from being so
traumatized. He s already had plenty and most he hasn t even eaten. There right underneath his bed
sheet. The men seeing these actions done by Pi, confuses them and that even leads to them not
thinking that the story he is telling is true. As they continue to listen to Pi he adds things like how he
wasn t the first human on this carnivorous island. Pi continues on by explaining how there

The Canadian Military was not solely responsible for ending World War II, but their actions on D Day,
Tuesday, June 6, 1944, in Normandy, showed courage and skill in combat, proved they were
passionate and courageous, and important role models. Canada s participation in code name Operation
Overlord proved that the Canadian Military was a force to be reckoned with, helped end World War II
and helped Canada gain independence. Firstly, D Day was a battle fought at Juno Beach and proved
that the Canadian Military was a force to be reckoned with. They fought by air, sea and land as equals

I Believe and support the idea of bringing your dog to work, I think it is a wonderful idea, they have
many beautiful reasons why you should. Although, alot of people might be against the idea of bringing
your dog to work, I am someone who own s two dogs, and the idea of them being home all day while I

know my puppies are home by themselfs it makes me, in my opinion, distracted more than I would be

Peru Political History
Peru s political history has presented periods of democratic rule and periods of authoritarian rule. The
current president is Pedro Pablo Kuczysnki Godard of the independent party Peruvians for Change. In
Peru the president serves as chief of state and head of government. The constitution adopted in 1993,
which has since been altered on several occasions, gives greater power to the president as he appoints
the prime minister and ultimately has final say in almost every governmental matter (GlobalEdge,
n.d.). Moreover, Peru is the largest producer of cocaine in the world and the influence of drug
traffickers in the government system has grown (The Heritage Foundation, n.d.). There is recognized
corruption in Peru s government.

The Four Risk Factors
Economic risk
The president is the former finance minister and his background also includes working as an
economist for the World Bank. The monetary policy is framed against inflation targeting, currently at
3%; the fiscal management is built on a rule which prevents the deficit to go beyond 1% of GDP
(Euler Hermes, 2016). The president has requested and obtained an exception to this rule. If public
debt rises, there is an increased risk of inflation. Furthermore, the corruption in the country decline
consumer and business confidence. There is also risk of El Nino and weather conditions to the
stability of the economy.
An area of importance to Peru s economy is the external sector. The export of its natural resources is
subject to price volatility. Recently there has been less demand and price decreases in Peru s copper,
silver, and natural gas exports (Focus Economics, 2017). Furthermore, imports now exceed exports
and thus may increase risk in trade balance. The import of goods and services in 2015 (current U.S. $)
was approximately $44,800M and exports totaled approximately $40,300M (GlobalEdge,

From 2006 2008, while I was working as a creative executive at Brightlight Pictures, I was fortunate
to develop and work on really cool films and TV series such as the half hour comedy About A Girl for
The N Network/Global. One project was a book that I loved called OLD SOULS, and is based on a
true story. The author, Tom Shroder, was an editor at the Washington Post Magazine, and as a curious
but skeptical man, convinced the acclaimed psychologist, Dr. Ian Stevenson, to allow him access on
his journey through India and Lebanon, meeting various case studies of children who could remember
and recount details about their past lives that would be completely impossible for them to know
otherwise. Over the course of the journey and his book, Tom went from skeptic to believer.
I found the material fascinating, and was so passionate about the book that I convinced Tom, via his
agent, to allow Brightlight Pictures to option his book, and then I convinced Brightlight to let me write
the adaptation. The development was funded by Telefilm Canada and CHUM. This was the first time I

Can You Hear Me Now Analysis of Sherry Trukle s Essay
ur Today it is very easy to get tethered to electronics and communications that give you instant results.
A quick check on networking site is becoming the norm verses actually picking up the phone and
calling the person you are catching up with. Sherry Turkle, in her essay Can You Hear Me Now?,
discusses points and personal experiences that persuade the reader that today s society is becoming
more connected or more alienated , than ever before. Turkle utilizes the pathos appeal by using the
rhetorical appeals of anecdotes, assertion, and reasoning. She relies heavily on the use of pathos
throughout the entire article. This is important because it gets the reader involved in the story and sets
the stage for the entire article. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this society many people completely immerse themselves in a new life that often times leads to
distractions within their real life. Turkle states, For those who are lonely yet fearful of intimacy, online
life provides environments where one can be a loner yet not alone, have the illusion of companionship
without the demands of sustained, intimate friendship . This statement supports her overall claim that
the addiction to technology leads to a person alienating themselves. A person could have the greatest
life in an online environment and not even leave their house. This continues to lead the reader to the
second trouble of her soul by setting them up emotionally. In this instance Turkle is trying to elicit a
reaction of feeling sorry for the people reading her essay.
She continues to use pathos to describe how people spend more time finding about their life and what
is happening in it by the use of BlackBerry s and constant checking of e mails. Think of the
BlackBerry user watching the BlackBerry movie of his life as someone watching a movie that takes
on a life of its own . (Turkle) Here she uses another anecdote to describe a person watching their life
go by tying them into another electronic device that shuts off the rest of the world physically and
emotionally. This is another good example of being

Hurricane Katrina And The Engineering Failures
Zheng Qin zq2sa Hurricane Katrina and the Engineering failures Engineers have produced great
modern contributions that have changed the world. The designs and technology in society are due to
engineered designs and construction. The art of engineering does not only include fancy technology, it
also includes the creation of safe and functioning buildings, vehicles, tunnels, and roads in society.
Engineered designs have to be reliable, safe, strong, and long lasting to properly function in society.
There are many aspects considered when constructing any particular design. In the case of New
Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, the engineering of the city was dated and needed secure designs.
New Orleans is built on swamp lands where the foundations are unreliable and mixed with water. The
structures and engineering design of New Orleans? levees were inadequate to hold the strength of
Katrina. The mass disaster of Hurricane Katrina and the destruction of New Orleans are primarily due
to engineering failures. Because of the location and foundation of New Orleans, the inadequate levees
and barriers, and the budget and economic issues, New Orleans became America?s most epic
engineering failure in history. Firstly, approximately 1,300 people died in New Orleans during
hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005. It is considered one of the most deadly and embarrassing
events in American history due to the amount of destruction of the hurricane, the insufficient planning

Daniel Quinn’s Ishmael
Ishmael: Paradigms of Yesterday
Come with me if you want to live, was all that Arnold Schwarzenegger said in his movie Terminator
2: Judgement Day, and after reading Daniel Quinn s masterpiece Ishmael, one might well receive the
impression Quinn echoes such sentiments. Few books have as much relevancy in this technological,
ever changing world as Ishmael.
In the beginning, according to Ishmael, God created Man to live peacefully on Earth, sustained by the
fruitful bounties of Earth and subject to God s control. That is, until Man ate of the Tree of Good and
Evil in the Garden Of Eden, and conveniently forgot all the rules God had so graciously placed in
front of him. From that point on, the Caucasian race, full of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Throughout it all, Ishmael leads his pupil through his trials with wit and wisdom, even while leading
him towards solutions for world hunger and environmental destruction. Makes one wonder how it is
that Quinn, as he claims, arrived at all of the conclusions in the book by simply going to the library
and doing a little research. Part parable, part myth, and totally compelling, Ishmael leaves one hungry
and wondering, waiting for the next chapter of humanity s tale to play out. As any good book does,
Ishmael leaves readers with more questions than answers, and demands that the reader figure out the
solution for himself.
As one critic put it, good books generate a healthy confusion, a curious combination of pleasure and
disquietude. Ishmael is no different. Much of the confusion present in this work stems from the
assertion by Daniel Quinn that most of the lessons taught by the monotheistic religions of the world
have gaping holes in them. They provide a shaky framework for a self sustaining culture, and soon
man will pay for his ignorance by the destruction of the environment. Quinn goes on to say that most

A Positive Relation Between Organizations, Human...
Additionally, trust in organizations is a positive relation with behavior at the workplace and is
connected with unions, human resources, and government interventions. Most government
marketplace interventions have used the alternative treatment principle of triage to split those in pain
into three groups : those who cannot be helped with the assets offered ,those who will recuperate (or at
least continue ) without any help, and those who will improve only with instant
assistance(Sastre,2010, chap.16).In some anxiety, managers have progressively advanced in training,
structural behavior, and job improvement to help workers. In order that a company is productive a
union, human resources, and government interventions must allow workers to change their habits,
skills, values, beliefs, and attitudes in a workforce. This process will more likely take some hard work
and years to process. They need to accept dissatisfactions and unpredicted consequences of solutions to
difficult problems, and the continuing power to work determinedly at improving the quality of help
the workers receive.
The federal government has intervened in the past and is still adjusting market outcomes. They are
keeping up with the needs of workers. The Home Ower Loan Corporation, Continental Illinois in
1994, The Savings and Loan Crisis of the 1980s, and Brady bonds in 1989 are some government
interventions which modify market outcomes.
One of the lessons from these four instances of government intervention is

sixty variables to describe each case, and they can be categorized into identification variables,
background variables, chronological variables, substantive variables, outcome variables and voting
opinion variables. The voting opinion variables include justice specific data such as the direction of

fact that his perception of the underclass world is not prejudiced or unnecessarily biased as one can
see in the case of Bill Cosby. Bill Cosby can be seen representing the lot of those who have crossed

Olympic Games Has Brought A Great Deal Of Economic,...
Introduction
It has been witnessed that Olympic games has brought a great deal of economic, social, cultural,
environmental and political changes to the host country. From the perspective of economics, Olympic
games can overall positively contribute the host country in its economic growth, urban expandation,
employment opportunities, households welfare improvement, etc. For example, Korea and Japan have
comparatively experienced dramatic GDP growth after Olympics in Seoul in 1988 and Tokyo in 1964
with rates of 16.8% and 15.8%, respectively. In addition, developed countries like Spain that host
Olympic games in Barcelona in 1992 gained much domestic consumption with 11.1% growth rate,
even thought the average employment growth in Spain kept flat, which is mostly due to the economic
recession in Europe at that time that has significantly offset the economic benefits from Barcelona
having Olympic games (Vegara, 1992). In theory, the net changes (positive changes minus negative
changes) from new economics activities in related to an event is defined as Economic Impact (Foster,
Greyser Walsh, 2006). In 2001, China was renowned for holding 2008 Olympic games in Beijing.
This event has economically brought a considerable of positive impacts in vary aspects such as
domestic demand improvement, employment rise, and so forth. However, 2008 Olympic games in
Beijing also contains negative economic impact, such as the expenses on bidding for hosting Olympic

Adams conceptualized fairness by stating that employees determine whether they have been treated
fairly at work by comparing their own payoff ratio of outcomes (such as pay or status) to inputs (such

framework, distributive justice refers to the perceived fairness of resource allocation in respect to the

Why Procedural Programming Is Important Part Of Our Daily...
Introduction When we started programming (our generation) we started with C. Object oriented
languages like Java were thought later. Even when we switched to Java or C++ we still never really
focussed on object oriented concepts and used procedural style in most places to complete the tasks
and assignments. Firstly procedural programming is easy to understand and implement and quicker. To
achieve simple tasks it was the way to go. Imagine having to import so many namespaces and
declaring a class and then a main method to just print hello world. The shift seemed quite hard and
didnt make much sense at that point. As we progressed over a period of time (that included losing

Measurements actually give a clear picture if things have actually improved after changes being made.
Quantifying is easy and can be done but qualifying these is more important as that will give meaning

There are numerous cases of situational incongruity in this play. Cassio was the one Iago needed dead

lines are simply a couple of the humorous that Othello says to Iago. They demonstrate the trust that
Othello erroneously puts in his closest companion. Most things Iago says are humorous and he s

desire is the reason Iago is selling out Othello and demolishing other people s lives in any case.

The African American Struggle for Civil Rights in the 1960 s
In what ways, and for what reasons, did the African American struggle for civil rights in the United
States change between the early and late 1960s?
The civil rights movement was an influential movement that has been taking place in America for
many years. Victories during this time helped to raise hope for African Americans during this
influential movement. In the beginning of the movement there was a focus on nonviolence, and the
non violent techniques began to pay off in the early 1960s. As the time progressed the struggle for
African Americans during the civil rights in the United States. Towards the ending of the period hope
was lost when major civil rights activists were assassinated. In the early 1960s non violent techniques
began to pay off with sit ins, marches and other forms of protest. For example, on May 4th, 1961, 13
young activists traveled through the south known as the freedom rides. This was nonviolent, and this
was effective. Also, four African American students in North Carolina started a Sit In in a segregated
Woolworth s lunch counter. The students were not served and workers refused to serves them. The
students stayed at the counter because they were allowed to stay there, but were refused service. Many
others in the south protested in similar ways, and 6 months later they were finally served in the diner.

Analyze The Values Of American Society
The following paper with analyze the values of American society and prove there are more
disadvantages than advantages to a high degree of agreement on these values. A large amount of
agreement on most of the values considered American could be detrimental to the country and as an
international power. Most American values revolve around accomplishment and fulfilling a goal.
Materialism, efficiency, demanding work, and competition are all values considered the focus of most
Americans. Materialism is the end goal; by working efficiently and beating the competition, one can
acquire all the possessions they want. In lesser amounts, these values can push a nation forward
economically. however, at the scale America utilizes these values, resources are wasted, foreign
relations are strained, and many within the country are left struggling. Capitalism is moral and
practical as it leaves the individual free to think rationally and act productively to sustain one s life
and experience happiness on earth. In macroeconomic terms, capitalism is the best system available

The And Clarke s Theory Of The Criminal Justice System
The Whites family is a crime bred family from West Virginia, Boone County. This family struggles
with addictions to alcohol and drugs, is in and out of prison and jail, and also depends on illegal means
to get what they want and need. These all lead to separate facets of the criminal justice system
allowing for separate theories to set in to the families. I choose Cornish and Clarke s rational choice
theory, general strain theory, and Sutherland s differential association theory. Cornish and Clarke
begin the lead in allowing for work on why offenders enjoyed committing crimes to be accepted.
Following Katz used this again to explain in more depth why offenders feel the need to commit
crimes. They have found differing factors in females and males; generally males lack self control and
empathy. Females are more influenced by the morality of the crime. Generally either sex their peers
will play a large role in the deciding factors. This framework emphasizes all the important factors that
go into a person s decision to engage or not engage in a particular act (p.54). This family in all aspects

and soft engineering in order to both prevent and mitigate the effects of beach erosion.
Introduction
There are 2 types of beaches. One is erosion dominant and the other is deposition dominant. The
erosion dominant one has more erosion than deposition so the beaches shrink.
In the other case, if there is more deposition than erosion, then the beaches grow due to more sand
being deposited upon it. The only reason why beaches shrink is due to erosion and this can happen for
a variety of reasons. One reason being that if a shore tends to receive more destructive waves than
constructive waves, then the beach will erode over time. This is because destructive waves erode and
constructive waves deposit sediment. A very relevant example is that the beaches in southern
California are naturally shrinking right now because they aren t receiving enough sediment from the

Case Study On Tongaat
I have taken the liberty of deciding to conduct my research task on a very small area by the name of
Tongaat. It is a sugarcane growing township in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, which is about 37 km
north of the popular Durban city and 28 km south of Stanger. The area has now become part of
eThekwini, the Greater Durban metropolitan area. The very town was established in 1945 and its
name originates from its river s name, Tongaat, the Zulu word for the Strychnos mackenii trees that
flourish on its banks. The population is pre dominantly the Indian race holding more than 50% of the
total population and the Black race in minority were the highest number of black people found in the
northern portion of the township consists mainly of low income ... Show more content on

Conducting various experiments was hard at first because I didn t know how was going go about at
the start of this project.
I must say that one problem I had with regards to starting this project was the fact that I had to find a
way of actually collecting data and with much thought I realized that a questionnaire would be perfect
because it would allow me to target certain individuals of different categories in terms of the different
lifestyles people have.
Collecting information was actually much harder than I thought because of the travelling distances I
had to make and it sometimes was inconvenient but I still went ahead and got the questionnaires out
The area of Tongaat is in need of serious development in terms of upgrading certain facilities, creating
a better standard of living for the people who actually live in Tongaat as this would increase the
centripetal forces that lie within Tongaat allowing the level of settlement hierarchy to increase from
being a minor country town to at least a metropolitan area as a start for the

Sociological Effects Of Incarceration In America
The United States of America has the largest prison population in the world. The United States
incarcerates six hundred ninety three people per one hundred thousand people and boasts an
incarceration rate that is almost five times higher than most other countries (Wagner Walsh, 2016).
The incarceration rate within the U.S. is significantly higher than the incarceration rates of other
countries due to the prevalence of institutional racism within the American criminal justice system.
While the criminal justice system unjustly targets minority individuals, African Americans and
Hispanics are especially targeted (Brennan Spohn, 2009). African Americans and Hispanics account
for a minority of the U.S. population but make up the majority of the U.S. prison population. Despite
comprising only 13.6% of the U.S. population (Rastogi, Johnson, Hoeffel, and Drewery, 2011),
African Americans account for 37.8% of all prisoners in the U.S. (Inmate Race, 2017). Hispanics are
also targeted by the criminal justice system at abnormally high rates. Hispanics make up ... Show

Brennan and Spohn (2009), examined the effects of ethnicity and gender on sentencing lengths for
drug offenders. It was discovered that African American males received longer sentences than those of
white and Hispanic males. Female offenders of all ethnicities received shorter prison sentences than
the prison sentences passed down upon male drug offenders. The study focused on data which was
collected from three U.S. District Courts: the District of Minnesota, the District of Nebraska, and the
Southern District of Iowa. While African American drug offenders were sentenced to longer sentences
on average, only African American males were sentenced to significantly longer than any other
individuals, regardless of their sex or ethnicity. Female drug offenders were also found to have
received shorter sentences than male drug

institution in the nation. In 1969 a federal report from Booneville causing it to be condemned in
efforts to reeducate and rehabilitate the youth. During the 1970 s Missouri began to mandate
fundamental reform, which tried to focus more on rehabilitation over punishment. An act passed in
1974 known as the Omnibus Reorganization Act. Missouri General Assembly passed this act. After
passing this act The Missouri Division of Youth Services was created better known as DYS. The
Division of Youth Services is a state agency responsible with the care and treatment of delinquent

Essay On Maternity Leave
Women in the United States should be guaranteed a paid maternal leave. The United States is the only
industrialized country that does not guarantee paid maternity leave. The Family and Medical Leave
Act was passed in 1993, and it protects a woman s position at her job for 12 weeks: It does not
mandate pay (Holohan). Paid maternity leave is not unheard of in the United States. California, New
Jersey, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island these are the states that offer some form of paid leave to new
mothers. It is not enough to only have four states offer paid leave. Only 12% of Americans are able to
take a paid maternity leave (NPR). Paid maternity leave should be mandated in every state. Many
people do support the idea of paid leave, but some oppose because they do not want to pay for it. The
way maternity leave could be paid for is the same principle as Social Security. A small portion of
people s paychecks would go towards paid leave. Some people do not realize that paid maternity leave
does not mean that women are simply paid the same as if they were still working. The states that allow
paid maternity leave only allow four to six weeks of their time off to be paid. It is different among ...

91% of businesses in California reported positive or neutral outcomes from having paid maternity
leave (Kurtzleben). The positive feedback that California has received from offering paid maternity
leave proves that paid maternity can work in the entire United States. No woman should have to return
to work before her body is even able to sit without using a pillow so she can be in less pain. Women
should not have to leave their babies after a few weeks because they cannot afford to take all 12
guaranteed weeks of leave. Women need to be able to support themselves and their family after giving
birth, which is why the United States needs to mandate paid maternity leave in every

The Aztecs And The Aztec Religion
During what is to be believed around 15,000 years ago, civilization was starting to develop around
North and South America. One of the last societies to arise were the Aztecs. The Aztecs originated
from groups of people that were migrating from a lake named, Aztlan, towards the valley of Mexico.
They transformed from just a small group of explores into a successful empire during this time. Aztecs
had a very unique culture, their religion influenced most of their life. Their religion was expressed
through their rituals, everyday life, and art. Even before they settled down, the Aztecs depended on
their Gods to guide them to choose the perfect location for them. That is an illustration of how much
the trusted and respected their Gods.
The Aztec religion had a mix of mythology which is seen through the Aztecs God s uprising story and
their significance. In the Aztecs religion, the people had multiple gods that they observed and prayed
to. Their Gods ranged from nature spirts to supporter of the Gods. One of their Gods, was named
Quetzalcoatl. This deity represented the four major aspects of their forces, their creation, virtue,
learning and culture. Another influential God was Tlaloc, the God of rain. Tlaloc was a representation
of the atmosphere and everything that happened that was impacted by the weather. Along with the
Gods representing significant topics, the stories that led to that unique spirt becoming a God
influenced their life as well.
Let s begin with a God that

  • 2. The Issue Of Abortion On The United States Essay The topic I have selected to write about in this research paper is the issue of Abortion, My thesis in this paper is to analyze the history of abortion in the United States prior to the Roe vs. Wade decision and afterwards, and to demonstrate the ways in which our two major political parties views on this issue have shifted over time along with the public s view on the issue. Abortion has been practiced for most of human history. The ancient Greeks and Romans practiced it, although not all ancient thinkers had the same views on abortion. Ancient Greek father of medicine (Britannica) Hippocrates was against the procedure; in the Hippocratic Oath doctors had to swear, To not give a woman an abortive remedy. (University of Virginia) Ancient Greek thinker Aristotle believed that fetuses gained a soul 40 days after conception for male fetuses, and 90 days after conception for female fetuses, a process of which he termed ensoulment (BBC) The Bible is inexplicably quiet on the issue.(BBC) Jesus said nothing about the practice of abortion neither did the apostles; It is through early Christian writings such as The Didache (Ante Nicene Fathers, Vol. 7.) that abortion was inexplicably condemned by the fledgling Christian Church and in turn all of Christendom. Between the 5th and 16 century views on abortion changed as abortion came to gradually become acceptable as long as it was performed before The Quickening which was a term for when the mother first felt the child ... Often, the couple s genetic material will be injected into the uterus of this woman; therefore, the child she carries may not be biologically related to her. Surrogacy adoption provides parents struggling with infertility the opportunity to bring a biological child into the world. In other cases, donor eggs or sperm may be used. To begin the surrogacy adoption process, the parents should consult an adoption attorney who has experience in these unique adoptions. • 4. The Issue Of Illegal Immigrants No matter what a person s ethnicity or race may be, every person has thoughts, feelings, values, aspirations, needs, and desires. People are uncomfortable if someone else s values and culture are different from their own. The term for a group or community fearing another person s perspective and lifestyle is called ethnocentrism. Ethnocentrism is the reason that American citizen s highly debate and criticize illegal immigration, arguing that illegal immigrants are drug addicted thieves who thrive off of stealing American s jobs and harming the United States labor force and the economy. As the immigration rate progressively rise s it simultaneously concerns those who favor strict immigration laws and believe that illegal immigrants are harming the United States. However, these assumptions are hardly fact based and people fail to acknowledge that immigrants are human beings who only want to help and support their families. The reality is that without illegal immigrants, the United States would economically suffer. Actual data shows that immigration has a generally positive impact on a county s economy, what with immigrants doing work, paying taxes, spending their money in the country and all that. Even parts of our infrastructure on which the economy depends are owned by foreigners. Places where strong anti immigrant policies have been enacted usually suffer economic downturns as a result. • 5. Traditional Gender Roles In The Hours And Virginia Woolf s... The comparative study of texts and their appropriations reflect the context and values of their times, demonstrating how context plays a significant role. Virginia Woolf s novel modernists Mrs Dalloway (1925) and Steven Daldry s post modernists film The Hours (2002), an extrapolation, explore the rapid change of social and philosophical paradigms of the 20th century, focusing on women whose rich inner lives are juxtaposed with their outer lives. They place the characters in their respective context, to respond to, the horrors of the consequences of war and AIDS and the vagaries and difficulties of relationships, sexuality and mental illness. Through their differing intertextual perspectives the film and novel represent similar values, within different contextual concerns. In the novel Mrs Dalloway, Woolf conveys her perspective, as she finely examines and critiques the traditional gender roles of women in a changing post war society. Woolf characterisation of Clarissa Dalloway in a non linear structure, presents a critical portrayal of the existing class structure through modernist s eyes. Titling her novel as Mrs Dalloway presents Clarissa s marriage as a central focus of her life, drawing attention to how a women s identity is defined by marriage. Despite the changing role of women throughout the 1920s, for married women life was the same post war. Presently, the company s financing needs are met through two types of bank loans which include a working capital loan obtained specifically to meet the working capital requirements and the present long term loan amounting to 4.2 million. Both the loans are obtained from National bank of Canada (NBC). The NBC took accounts receivable and inventory as collateral and as a condition of the loan against the charge on the borrowed amount for which Dawson undertook to provide quarterly financial statements and monthly reports of inventory, sales and receivables. Now as far as the company s cash flow is concerned, the company has been suffered with very weak cash flows because inventory and receivables have increased which result in negative cash flows and due to increased in accounts payable resulting in positive cash flow thus overall cash generated from operations remain intact. Swing set safety guidelines have been developed to guide parents, childcare providers and school officials to the best measures to prevent accidents on playground equipment. An impact absorbing surface is essential since statistics reveal that up to 70 percent of playground injuries are caused by falls. Asphalt and concrete surfaces should be avoided at all costs. Shredded rubber has the best impact absorption and does not deteriorate or attract insects. Other appropriate surfaces include cedar mulch, sand, wood chips and pea gravel. It is recommended that the material be 9 to 12 inches deep and extend 6 feet from all sides of the equipment. A leading cause of playground accidents comes from youngsters playing on equipment made for older kids. Swing set safety guidelines emphasize that kids outdoor toys should be age appropriate. If the child must be lifted to use the play set, it is not safe for them to play on. Monkey bars constructed above the swings should be avoided, because falling on a swing below can result in serious injury. Monkey bars should stand alone and be separate from the swing set. Heaney s poetry is able to reflect his background by his use of language and the technique he expresses his experiences. I will cover his background into three sections: his childhood, the community and his reflections. I will start by looking at his feelings and experiences in the poem Death of a Naturalist . The poet remembers the time when he was a young child. He saw the reality of what frogs were really like in the outdoors compared to what was taught in school. In school, the frogs are described like a typical teacher talking to young pupils. It is very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The experience had so much impact on Heaney altering his emotions before the incident occurred. The title is very striking and ironic. The definition of a naturalist is someone who is an expert in natural history. Heaney was learning nature from direct observation but this stopped him from ever becoming a naturalist due to the fact that he found it a nightmare. Hence the word Death The poem is done with unrhymed iambic pentameter lines. The use of onomatopoeia is very frequent such as: slap and plop , farting and gargled . The continuous, repulsive words help bring the poem to life and show how terrifying his experience was. E.g. rotted , festered , slobber and slime kings . In the first section, the poet shows that he has a scientific interest. This is shown by the way he uses the technical names to call the frogs e.g. bullfrog and frogspawn rather than the patronizing words daddy and mammy from the teacher. The second section is like vengeance and a punishment in the eyes of the young poet. Heaney possibly never got past the simple idea that the frogs were not just mammy or daddy frogs. The ... There is also the problem of differentiating between legitimate Native healing practitioners and those who would take advantage of anyone not aware of the proper rituals and techniques that need to be performed (Zubek, 1994, p. 1929). Amusing Ourselves To Death Chapter Summary America is a nation that focuses on entertainment and obsesses with what we see on screen, so much so that it has shaped our modern form of discourse. In his book, Amusing Ourselves to Death, Neil Postman discusses the way that television has shaped the American culture. He makes the argument that television has now crept its way into the education system, therefore enforcing the idea that teaching and learning must now be made entertaining. Postman titles the tenth chapter of his book Teaching as an Amusing Activity to introduce his views on the impact television has made on education. Postman s belief was that the popularity of television pushed education and learning to be more entertaining, and now American children are unable to learn properly in a classroom. Even television that is meant to provide an educational purpose fails to do so in the way that a traditional classroom does. In the opening of the tenth chapter of his book, Postman mentions Sesame Street and its immediate popularity among children, parents, and educators. The program seemingly encouraged children to learn by making learning fun, but then raised the issue that children wouldn t want to learn unless the information was presented to them in a more entertaining way. Postman made the argument that Sesame Street undermines what the traditional idea of schooling represents (143) and so its viewers were trained to love television, not learning. The monetary policy is framed against inflation targeting, currently at 3%; the fiscal management is built on a rule which prevents the deficit to go beyond 1% of GDP (Euler Hermes, 2016). The president has requested and obtained an exception to this rule. If public debt rises, there is an increased risk of inflation. Furthermore, the corruption in the country decline consumer and business confidence. There is also risk of El Nino and weather conditions to the stability of the economy. An area of importance to Peru s economy is the external sector. The export of its natural resources is subject to price volatility. Recently there has been less demand and price decreases in Peru s copper, silver, and natural gas exports (Focus Economics, 2017). Furthermore, imports now exceed exports and thus may increase risk in trade balance. A quick check on networking site is becoming the norm verses actually picking up the phone and calling the person you are catching up with. Sherry Turkle, in her essay Can You Hear Me Now?, discusses points and personal experiences that persuade the reader that today s society is becoming more connected or more alienated , than ever before. Turkle utilizes the pathos appeal by using the rhetorical appeals of anecdotes, assertion, and reasoning. She relies heavily on the use of pathos throughout the entire article. Turkle states, For those who are lonely yet fearful of intimacy, online life provides environments where one can be a loner yet not alone, have the illusion of companionship without the demands of sustained, intimate friendship . This statement supports her overall claim that the addiction to technology leads to a person alienating themselves. A person could have the greatest life in an online environment and not even leave their house. This continues to lead the reader to the second trouble of her soul by setting them up emotionally. In this instance Turkle is trying to elicit a reaction of feeling sorry for the people reading her essay. The designs and technology in society are due to engineered designs and construction. The art of engineering does not only include fancy technology, it also includes the creation of safe and functioning buildings, vehicles, tunnels, and roads in society. Engineered designs have to be reliable, safe, strong, and long lasting to properly function in society. There are many aspects considered when constructing any particular design. In the case of New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, the engineering of the city was dated and needed secure designs. New Orleans is built on swamp lands where the foundations are unreliable and mixed with water. The structures and engineering design of New Orleans? levees were inadequate to hold the strength of Katrina. The mass disaster of Hurricane Katrina and the destruction of New Orleans are primarily due to engineering failures. Because of the location and foundation of New Orleans, the inadequate levees and barriers, and the budget and economic issues, New Orleans became America?s most epic engineering failure in history. Firstly, approximately 1,300 people died in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005. Few books have as much relevancy in this technological, ever changing world as Ishmael. In the beginning, according to Ishmael, God created Man to live peacefully on Earth, sustained by the fruitful bounties of Earth and subject to God s control. Throughout it all, Ishmael leads his pupil through his trials with wit and wisdom, even while leading him towards solutions for world hunger and environmental destruction. Makes one wonder how it is that Quinn, as he claims, arrived at all of the conclusions in the book by simply going to the library and doing a little research. Part parable, part myth, and totally compelling, Ishmael leaves one hungry and wondering, waiting for the next chapter of humanity s tale to play out. As any good book does, Ishmael leaves readers with more questions than answers, and demands that the reader figure out the solution for himself. As one critic put it, good books generate a healthy confusion, a curious combination of pleasure and disquietude. Ishmael is no different. Much of the confusion present in this work stems from the assertion by Daniel Quinn that most of the lessons taught by the monotheistic religions of the world have gaping holes in them. They provide a shaky framework for a self sustaining culture, and soon man will pay for his ignorance by the destruction of the environment. Additionally, trust in organizations is a positive relation with behavior at the workplace and is connected with unions, human resources, and government interventions. Most government marketplace interventions have used the alternative treatment principle of triage to split those in pain into three groups : those who cannot be helped with the assets offered ,those who will recuperate (or at least continue ) without any help, and those who will improve only with instant assistance(Sastre,2010, chap.16).In some anxiety, managers have progressively advanced in training, structural behavior, and job improvement to help workers. In order that a company is productive a union, human resources, and government interventions must allow workers to change their habits, skills, values, beliefs, and attitudes in a workforce. This process will more likely take some hard work and years to process. They need to accept dissatisfactions and unpredicted consequences of solutions to difficult problems, and the continuing power to work determinedly at improving the quality of help the workers receive. Introduction It has been witnessed that Olympic games has brought a great deal of economic, social, cultural, environmental and political changes to the host country. From the perspective of economics, Olympic games can overall positively contribute the host country in its economic growth, urban expandation, employment opportunities, households welfare improvement, etc. For example, Korea and Japan have comparatively experienced dramatic GDP growth after Olympics in Seoul in 1988 and Tokyo in 1964 with rates of 16.8% and 15.8%, respectively. In addition, developed countries like Spain that host Olympic games in Barcelona in 1992 gained much domestic consumption with 11.1% growth rate, even thought the average employment growth in Spain kept flat, which is mostly due to the economic recession in Europe at that time that has significantly offset the economic benefits from Barcelona having Olympic games (Vegara, 1992). Beach Erosion in Southern California Beach erosion is a serious issue today especially with human civilization building cities near the coast and disrupting the natural distribution of sediment deposition for our own convenience. Along with the rise of our sea levels due to global warming melting our polar ice caps, this erosion is having profound effects on coastal societies and has damaging effects on infrastructure worldwide. With human ingenuity, we have come up with various methods such as hard and soft engineering in order to both prevent and mitigate the effects of beach erosion. Introduction There are 2 types of beaches. One is erosion dominant and the other is deposition dominant. The erosion dominant one has more erosion than deposition so the beaches shrink. In the other case, if there is more deposition than erosion, then the beaches grow due to more sand being deposited upon it. The only reason why beaches shrink is due to erosion and this can happen for a variety of reasons. One reason being that if a shore tends to receive more destructive waves than constructive waves, then the beach will erode over time. This is because destructive waves erode and constructive waves deposit sediment. A very relevant example is that the beaches in southern California are naturally shrinking right now because they aren t receiving enough sediment from the San ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
