Critically Asses The Views Of Paul Tillich On Religious Language
Paul Tillich was a renowned American Protestant theologian born in Prussia 1886. As a self
proclaimed philosophical theologian, Tillich saw the very nature of Christian faith expressed in
religious symbols that demanded constant reinterpretation. He was famous for believing that it is
possible to speak meaningfully about metaphysical concepts and therefore came up with the theory
that religious language, because it is symbolic in nature, has an overwhelming effect upon humans.
Tillich argued that religious language is symbolic. This means that religious symbols communicate the
most significant values and beliefs of human beings.
In his theory, Tillich firstly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tillich famously used the example of a national flag to illustrate his point: a flag points to something
beyond itself, the country it represents, but also participates in the meaning of the country. He believed
that symbols could unite a religious believer with a deeper dimension of himself as well as with a
greater reality. He also believed that symbols must emerge out of an individual collective
unconsciousness, and can only function when they are accepted by the unconscious. For Tillich
symbols cannot be just invented, but instead live and die at the appropriate times.
Also Tillich suggests that religious faith, can express itself only in symbolic language, because
whatever we say about that which concerns us ultimately...has a symbolic meaning presumably
because it is of greater concern and import than the mere language, which can only point towards it.
The language of faith is the language of symbols Tillich then went onto develop his idea of a symbol
further by outlining the functions in which a symbol carries out which are Point to something beyond
themselves, Participate in that to which they point, Open up reality that otherwise are closed to us and
finally They also open up the levels and dimensions of the soul that correspond to those levels of
reality. Tillich furthermore argued that symbolic language operates in a similar way that a piece of
music, art work or poetry might. This is because they can heave a deep overwhelming effect upon

Descriptive Essay About Myself
With my green plastic safety scissors from my pencil case, I hid under the craft table in my living
room and sawed off my blonde bangs until there were only millimeter long blonde sprigs of hair left
sticking from the top of my forehead.
This was just the first of many times that I tried to change my appearance to escape the shadow of my
sister and become my own unique person.
At the age of four, I lacked any formal hairdresser education so my DIY haircut forced me to wear
many wide headbands to hide the hideous sprigs of butchered hair, but in my mind my mission was
successful, because I finally looked different than my sister.
Anna, my identical twin, looks exactly like me, except for the odd freckle, our slightly different nose
structures and the slight chip on her upper left tooth. I can always tell us apart so I hardly notice that I
basically have a clone following me around all the time, but for others knowing which twin I am
proves challenging. It didn t help when my mom dressed in matching outfits from head to toe. For my
first Halloween my brother dressed up like a firefighter and Anna and I were his dalmatians, then he
was a farmer and we were pigs.
When we turned five we decided to pick out our own clothes. In kindergarten Anna and I decided that
she would only wear pink, purple and orange while my wardrobe would only contain blue, green and
yellow clothing. This color coding system worked for the next five years and from my L.L.Bean

Vivian Bearing In The Film Wit
Death, what we all have in common.
Many people will go through life without ever putting much thought into when or how we will die,
some people will die suddenly or quickly while others will experience a slow agonizing death that
makes them put their whole life into perspective. The film Wit (Bosanquet et al., 2001) shows Vivian
Bearing, a Doctor of Philosophy s passage.
Patient and Medical Staff Communication
Doctor Kelekian told Vivian that she had stage four metastatic ovarian cancer, that unfortunately had
went undetected in stages one, two and three and that she was going to have to obtain an experimental
chemotherapy to which she will have to be hospitalized for in each of the eight cycles of treatment
(Bosanquet et al., 2001). Vivian was told that this form of treatment would very aggressive but was
that she would also be making a significant contribution to the knowledge of this experiment. She was
never given another option as to what type of treatment she favored. Doctor Kelekian contended that
Vivian receive the full dose of the experimental chemotherapy because she had stage four epithelial
carcinoma an insidious cancer. As she began her treatment Vivian had encountered an old student of
hers Doctor Posner, who now was a student of Doctor Kelekian. She was now succumb to be his

Wohl s Theory Of Health And Social Care
Wohl (1983) produced a well researched and documented account of public health and development in
Britain; starting from the middle of the 19th century to the early 20th century. The author eloquently
described the horrendous and devastating levels of the nations poverty and poor health. Within
Victorian society few people were free from illness/disease, average lifespan, stench and impurified
water. The shift in socioeconomic differences, intolerable living conditions and significantly poor
working conditions took on an added dimension because of the increasing number of rural residents
relocating to towns in order to seek employment. This urban revolution resulted in a major health
crisis for the nation due to the rapid growths of towns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It proposed to address the social determinants of health, the conditions in which individuals are
conceived, develop, live, work and age and which can prompt health inequalities. It attracts further
thoughtfulness regarding that a greater number of people are living longer, however spending more
time in illness due to things such as poverty, lack of equitable service etc. The report, titled Fair
Society, Healthy Lives , proposes another approach to reduce health inequalities in England post 2010.
It contends that, customarily, government strategies have centered assets just on a specific areas of
society. To enhance wellbeing for every one of us and to decrease unfair and antiquated health
inequalities, greater movement and activity is required from a social perspective. The in depth report
contains numerous critical discoveries, some of which are condensed underneath. Individuals living in
the poorest regions in England will by and large have a mortality rate seven years earlier than
individuals living in the wealthiest neighbourhoods. Alongside this, individuals living in poorer areas
will not only have a reduced mortality but will have a greater chance of having greater chance of
illness and disability a normal distinction of 17 years. The Review highlights the social scale of health
inequalities put basically, the lower an individuals social economic status is can have a significant

The, Fables, And Fairy Tales With Human And Animal Characters
History has shown that people of different generations have conceived stories that highlight values
and moral lessons. In the form of parables, fables, and fairy tales with human and animal characters,
the stories aimed to help children and adult discern right actions from wrong. To this day, parents
continue to use these stories to convey ethical teachings. As a reflection of my past and appreciation of
my present as well as my positive outlook of the future, in this paper, I ponder about the stories my
parents imparted to me while at the same time, I express my appreciation by telling a story to my
children that I hope they would carry with them in their old age.
Childhood Ethical Teachings
As children, we were all told stories by our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not learning from the incident, Kenny kept tricking the villagers by always crying wolf even if there
was none. One day the wolf came, Kenny yelled at the top of lungs, but the village elders did not
come this time because they thought the boy is lying again. The wolf ate all the sheep and ran into the
forest and Kenny was left without a flock.
The story of the boy who cried wolf has taught me the importance of honesty. From childhood to
adulthood, in both my personal and professional lives, I have practiced honesty because a lie, more so,
repetitive lies can cause you to lose the trust of people around you. As one of the leaders in my work
place, the story reminds me that once the trust is loss, it is hard to gain it back.
For My Children
When I think of my children, I want to see things from their perspectives so that I can understand
them better. In this digital age, the easiest way to convey stories to them is through their gadgets. With
that in mind, I would like to teach my children importance of honesty the way my parents taught it to
me. So, here is the story.
Once upon a time, there was this boy name T.A. from an average family. T.A. s parents work in a farm
and they just earn enough for their basic needs. The family does not have extra money for the latest
toys and electronic gadgets. As a young boy, T.A. sometimes get envious of the other kids in the
community with new cellphones, tablets, and electric operated toys. Because his parents love T.A.

China And Indi The World s Fastest Developing Economies...
China and India are two of the world s fastest developing economies and most populous nations on the
earth. The question is whether Chindia is a friend or a threat to the United States. Together these
nations have attributed to prosperity, but are it beneficial or harming to others?
Chindia can pose many threats to surrounding nations and competitors. China is taking dominance as
becoming the world exporter. With all of their products they are able to offer lower prices and beating
out many other industries. India is able to produce products at cheaper costs and provide cheap labor.
Their textile industry is a prime example. Many of the products needed for their textile industry are
produced in their own country so little is imported. They are able to produce products faster because
the materials are local and there is no need to wait for imports. The products are produce cheaper
because of cheap labor, and there is no need for storage costs because very few goods are imported.
When it comes to producing goods cheaper, offering lower prices to the consumers, and becoming a
world exporter, Chindia is the leader.
Together China and India attributed to prosperity and there are mutual economic benefits. Both
countries have formed stronger economic bonds. They have openly cooperated with one another in
multi lateral trade negotiations. As emerging economies continue to grow, there may be a further
decline in the share of world output and world exports accounted for by the

Impoverishment Of The Working Class In The Jungle, By...
In The Jungle, by Upton Sinclair, the author depicts how the exploitation and impoverishment of the
working class contributes to political corruption, health problems, crime, and unemployment.
Throughout the novel, Jurgis encounters many different people, one of them being Mike Scully, the
richest man in Packingtown. Political bosses like Scully create the reputation for corruption in
Chicago. He has control over the poorer parts of the city, and uses this to his advantage. An example
being when he meets Jurgis, and convinces him to bribe other people, mainly poor workers, to vote for
the Republican, so that Scully would be guaranteed the winning spot in the following election.
Throughout the novel, corruption increases. In the beginning, there are only slight hints, like when
very few people forget to leave money so Jurgis and Ona can pay for the wedding feast. However, by
the end, Jurgis has been a thief, strikebreaker, and has participated in rigging an election. Jurgis and
his family have very bad luck, and under the conditions they live in, Getting sick is extremely easy,
and getting treatment is extremely hard. Jurgis gets hurt multiple times at work because of a dangerous
environment, and is forced to stay home without receiving any pay. Sickness and disease spreads
quickly among the poor workers, a reason being the extremely poor hygiene at the factories where
they all work, and they also can not afford good enough health care. Ona dies while giving birth in her

Compare And Contrast In Another Country And Ambush
In both In Another Country by Ernest Hemingway and Ambush by Tim O Brien, there are aspects that
are similar. To get a clear aspect of what both texts look at, Hemingway writes about a short story that
is based on the impacts of World War I on soldiers. The short story mainly focuses on how these
particular soldiers experienced the traumatic event of having to participate in the war which was both
psychologically and physically harmful to them. In Ambush O Brien narrates from a first person
perspective of his account when he was a soldier, the story is based on his last war story that aims at
telling her daughter the truth when she gets older. The two texts have a number of similarities and
contrasts as well. In terms of the similarities, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theme is similar to the one presented by Hemmingway because of the notion or concept used to
develop it. War is a common factor in both texts, seeing that in the text by Hemmingway, war is the
central theme while in Ambush, it has been used to develop the main theme of the text. O Brien s
regret is from throwing the grenade and having to kill all those people he killed. The regret is from
killing the soldiers and all he wished for was that the soldiers had just walked away past him, that way
he wouldn t have had to throw the grenade. In developing the theme, O Brien uses visions to show the
regret and also to contemplate on what would have happened if things were to happen differently. The
two stories were both similar in their story line which was about war. However, the main themes in
both stories differ. While one explores World War 1 and the effects it had on the soldiers who played a
part in it, the other explores the resentment one ex soldier has for killing a soldier while at war and he
wishes the circumstances were

How Does Beowulf Fight
When Beowulf fights, he always has a reason. Beowulf is a strong, brave and heroic figure to the
Danes. He is always looking to protect them. Beowulf encounters three fights and uses different
methods, techniques, and weapons for each one. He uses these to show that sometimes doing the same
thing over again doesn t always work.
Beowulf s first fight was against his greatest enemy, Grendel. The fight starts out with Beowulf,
looking for Grendel, and finding him. When he finds Grendel, he attacks. Beowulf has come to kill the
beast that has been terrorizing his people. The fight goes on until Beowulf, with his superhuman
strength, tears off Grendel s arm. Grendel is left badly wounded. He knows he cannot fight anymore
and heads back to his home to die. Grendel s death was probably Beowulf s greatest victory.
The second fight Beowulf had was with Grendel s mother. Beowulf is looking to do the same with
Grendel s mother as he did with Grendel. He goes underwater looking for her in her cave. As Beowulf
is heading towards her cave, she suddenly attacks him and drags him down to her cave. Beowulf tries
to strike at her with his sword but misses. He gets angry and charges at her with his bare hands.

sword he finds to kill Grendel s mother. He also uses it to cut off Grendel s head. When he does it he
wins the trophy of Grendel s head. During Beowulf s last fight he uses the method of never giving up
on a fight when presented. Beowulf shows his death. He always wanted to be the hero his people
knew him as, and now his people will always remember him as that

Character Analysis Of Holden Caulfield
In J. D. Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye, the character of Holden Caulfield does not convincingly
embody a compassionate and caring character. Holden, after having a difficult year at school, finds
comfort in his memories of his brother Allie. Another instance of Holden finding comfort, is when he
spends time with Phoebe. In the same way, Phoebe is supportive when spending time with Holden.
However, this takes a turn for the worse, as Holden reveals to Phoebe that he is leaving. Holden finds
comfort and love through his memories of Allie, his experiences with Phoebe and the support from he
receives from her. Holden begins to reminisce about his interactions with his deceased brother, Allie
as he feels lost, and does not know what to do. Holden, having difficulty describing a room or house
for Stradlater s composition, he decides to write about his brother Allie s baseball mitt, that had poems
written a over the glove for Allie to read when he was in the field (Salinger 38). Holden begins to
remember how Allie was very intelligent, how everyone liked him, and he even started describing his
features (Salinger 38). Holden shows compassion and love towards his brother Allie when he begins
to tell the reader, I slept in the garage the night he died, and I broke all the goddam windows with my
fist, just for the hell of it. I even tried to break all the windows on the station wagon we had that
summer, but my hands was already broken and everything by that time, and I couldn t

The Social Issues of Homelessness Essay examples
Sociology 2, Social Issues Problems Section 80528

The Social Issue of Homelessness
Homelessness has always been a major social issue for cities across the nation but in recent years it is
reached astonishing proportions. In this essay I will try to summarize ten recently published articles
and each of the authors view of homelessness. First I will discuss some of their opinions of the causes
of the recent increase of homelessness and who or what is to blame. Next we will look into just a few
of the effects of homelessness, both to the homeless and those around them. After that we will explore
possible solutions that have been tried or proposed.
Many of the causes for this alarming increase in homelessness have ... Show more content on

It is best described by Connie Paige of The Boston Globe where in her article titled Homelessness hits
record high she says, The double whammy of the high cost of fuel and food can put families at risk for
homelessness that otherwise might not be . Those who live from paycheck to paycheck just didn t
have the extra money in their budget to accommodate a price increase on almost every daily staple
they have. Nan Roman of the National Alliance to End Homelessness said higher food and fuel prices
hitting families with no cushion . When these families can t afford the daily basics, they take from
another part of the budget. Those who had no cushion soon find themselves out of money for their
bills and many ultimately end up homeless.
Job loss is another large contributor to the increase in homelessness. I think that James Temple of SF
Gate in his article titled Striving to serve growing homeless population , describes this best when he
said The chronically homeless stand alongside the newly desperate, people whose take home pay didn
t last, who didn t get the hours they d hoped for, who unexpectedly lost homes or jobs . Massive job
losses are changing homeless culture. According to the Ken Homa, Goodwill Director of Housing
Services in Traverse County, MN, There has also been a significant increase in people

Balanced Scorecard And Malcolm Baldrige Performance...
Balanced Scorecard and Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Program Comparison
Merriam Webster defines quality as a degree of excellence, or a distinguishing attribute. Managers
strive for excellence in the workplace to improve customer satisfaction, increase the output in
manufacturing while minimizing defects, as well as making the company more profitable. There are
several different management systems or methodologies available for businesses to use, but the
Balanced Scorecard and the Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Program is the most common
and widely used in the United States.
The Balanced Scorecard Institute reports that in the 1950 s General Electric was the first to use the
Balanced Scorecard approach, but it was not until the 1990 s when Dr. Robert Kaplan a Harvard
Business School professor and Dr. David Norton officially titled it the Balanced Scorecard. Once used
as only a measurement tool for organizations, it is now a complete strategic planning and management
system (Balanced Scorecard Institute, n.d.). Originally, businesses looked at the financial reports to
distinguish whether it was a quality company or not. Kaplan and Norton however believed the
financial reports only showed past history and an organization must also track how it is performing
currently and look at ways to constantly improve future performance. Kaplan and Norton established
there are four business segments or perspectives to measure and make improvements on. The four
segments

A Risk Assessment Strategy For A Chemical Suicide
Background:
Before January 2008, industrial accidents were the main cause of Hydrogen Sulfide poisonings in
Japan. Since then, the use of this gas in chemical or detergent suicides increased exponentially, over
2,000 such suicides have been reported in Japan. This trend was next encountered by first responders
in America, with 3 cases reported in 2008, 9 in 2009 and over 30 incidents in 2010 (Morii et al.,

The new trend was shared via internet message boards. Dependant of the mixture of common

Every 5 years since 1980 the US government has put out dietary guidelines for which all Americans
would benefit from if they wanted to lead a healthy life and lifestyle. We live in a modern age where
most diseases have been thoroughly researched and in a lot of cases have been cured, managed or
learned how to be prevented all together. This is where the dietary guidelines come in, they were
created to be viable to follow for 95% of the healthy American population. By following the dietary
guidelines not only will we live a healthier life and feel better but we ll be preventing some of the
more serious health problems, like CVD and stroke which are some of the leading causes of American
deaths. For three days I kept track of all the foods and drinks I consumed, two weekdays and a single

have π π stacking interactions with Phe 155 and Phe 210 in the core of the gorge. The imidazole ring
of ETS1 and the oxazole ring of ETS2 was shown to be a parallel displaced π π stacking interaction
with Phe 155. ETS1 also has a parallel displaced π π stacking interaction with Phe 210, while ETS2
was shown to adopt a face to face π π stacking interaction with this residue instead. The indole rings
of ETS1 and ETS2 participate in edge to edge stacking interactions with Phe 155 and His 33. In
addition to bidentate metal ion coordination the hydroxamate tail of both compounds like

It is notable that HDAC8 does not have an aromatic hydrophobic pocket corresponding to the one
created by His 33 and Phe 155. In HDAC2 this region forms a nice groove, which is not observed in
HDAC8, for the indole ring sit in. In HDAC8 the Lys 33 residue, while it has a hydrophobic chain,
does not participate in staking interactions. The imidazole ring now adopts a T shaped π π stacking
interaction between Phe 152 and Phe 208, whereas it was parallel displaced in HDAC2. This less
favored double T shaped interaction prevents the formation of a hydrogen bond in the core of
HDAC8. ETS2 in HDAC8 also shows the shift of the indole ring to the right side of the gorge to now
hydrogen bond with Gly 184, and the oxazole ring also adopts more of a T shaped orientation with the
Phe 208 in HDAC8 compared to a parallel π π orientation. The oxazole ring is also less of an equal
distance between the two Phe rings, favoring an interaction with Phe 208 over an interaction with Phe
152. Again the wider gorge size of HDAC8 decreases binding affinity of these compounds.
ETS1 and ETS2 ranked 1st and 2nd as HDAC2 inhibitors, producing binding scores of 10.0937 and
9.9520, respectively. The ability of ETS1 and ETS2 to bind to HDAC8 is, however, significantly
lower for both compounds, ranking 9th and 8th, (6.7458 and 6.9155 respectively). This difference in
binding scores is greater than

Enslavement Of The Slave Movement
Enslavement Resistance
Slave resistance began for many enslaved Africans before they reach the Americas. Karenga explained
the many arrangements in which Africans resisted to enslavement, while in Africa, during the middle
passage, and in the Americas. Employing the Karenga text one can evaluate the different resistances
that transpired in Antigua as Cultural, Resistance, Day to Day Resistance, Abolitionism, Armed
Resistance, Revolts, Ship Mutinies, and Afro Native Alliance. One can conclude that enslaved
Africans had an unrelenting resistance to enslavement (Karenga).
There is evidence that confirms enslaved Africans were able to execute successful ship mutinies, while
at sea, and control their destiny by establishing maroon societies wherever they landed in the
Caribbean. These maroon societies would later act as sanctuaries for escaped slaves throughout the
Caribbean. In Antigua, one prominent maroon society was located around the summit of Antigua s
extinct volcano, Boggy Peak now known as Mount Obama (Dash). Maroon societies allowed groups
of escaped slaves and their descendants to maintain a free community in close proximity of society,
but independent of European influence. Maroon communities developed their own distinctive cultures.
Since most maroon communities were founded by African born people, they incorporated and
preserved many aspects of African culture, including language, religious practices, and craft styles
(Jaede). All maroon communities lived in

The Allegory Of The Farm In George Orwell s Animal Farm
Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is a novella detailing a farm in England where the animals
overthrow their human masters. The whole book is an allegory of the Russian Revolution. Stalin took
control in Russia and eventually became a dictator, controlling every aspect of life and killing those he
thought were enemies. Napoleon is Stalin, as he took control of the farm. There are many different
animals that represent the different types of people in society and government. Napoleon had become
overcome with his power, which made him a tyrannical dictator, which is the most harmful trait in
government, especially when the people are all blindly following everything the dictator says and
does.

When people take power, blind followers are detrimental to society. Because they go along with
everything, they allow their leaders to control every aspect of life without the people realizing that
their lives are becoming worse. The dictator becomes selfish and starts to do things that only benefit
themselves.
Throughout Animal Farm, Napoleon was definitely selfish. It s a very detrimental trait for someone in
a leadership position, as it leads to only doing things that benefit the leader, and makes conditions
worse for the people. Napoleon and the pigs did numerous things that were selfish during the course
of the book. They changed things like the commandments to make their actions seem right and
acceptable. The pigs and dogs got better and more food and never worked, while the other animals
slaved away and starved. They never cared about anything but themselves, which is clearly seen after
they changed the commandments completely to just All animals are equal, but some are more equal
than others (Orwell, 134). Napoleon used this to make every single horrible action seem okay, and
almost all of the animals just go along with it, and most don t even realize that the pigs changed all of
the laws. This is very similar to many dictators in history; because of blind followers and selfish
leaders, it becomes extremely easy for said leaders to gain too much influence and become absolute
dictators.
Napoleon is the classic example of

John Smith And Pocahontas Analysis
Within two passages, The (Untrue) Story of John Smith and Pocahontas and The General History of
Virginia the capturing of John Smith is portrayed. The story of the capturing and rescuing of John
Smith is briefly documented in this form: John Smith was captured by a person claimed as Powhatan,
who was understood to be the tributary leader of several tribes on the tidal rivers and creeks. One day,
Warriors associated with Powhatan captured Captain John Smith in the late 1607 and threatened to kill
him. However, within a month of his capture, Smith was free, in Jamestown, and reporting that he had
concluded an arrangement in which Powhatan would provide the colonists with food. The stories do

With a mere glance at the passage, one can see that Pocahontas is mentioned about twice during the
whole duration. In paragraph two, through Smith s perspective, it says: After they had presented him
with a feast in their best barbarous manner, they held a long discussion. At the end of that discussion,
two great stones were brought before Powhatan. Then, as many of them as could do so grabbed
Captain Smith. They dragged him to them and laid his head on the stones, ready with their clubs to
beat out his brains. But Pocahontas, the King s dearest daughter, begged them to stop. When her
entreaties failed, she put his head in her arms and laid her own upon his to save him from death. Upon
seeing this, the Emperor was contented that Captain Smith should live . From this, we can see that
Pocahontas did not rescue Smith s life as said in The (Untrue) Story of John Smith and Pocahontas .

How Does John Keats Use Figurative Language
Everyone is fearful of dying. However, because each individual is unique, everyone has different
levels of fear and varying regrets. In the early 1800s, a young poet named John Keats wrote When I
Have Fears in which he explains his fears and regrets about death. Employing devices such as
sophisticated abstract diction, figurative language, and symbols, John Keats shows that living as if
tomorrow would never appear is an excellent way to abandon fears about death. During the first
twelve lines of the shakespearean sonnet, Keats uses a variety of high level abstract diction and
symbols while also including figurative language, in order to explain his complex fears. Keats simply
wants to express his fears, including any goals he wishes to

All three articles address dating violence as well as sexual assault. This topic is important to me
because in this day and age dating violence and sexual assault are very common with individual s

One day I was taking a hike in the Himalayan mountains and came upon a big wall of stone blocking

Being cautious I crept up to the door and knocked. I don t know who would have answered the door if
someone had answered. I was puzzled and stuck to the spot thinking of what to do. I decided to walk
back to my village way down below and come back tomorrow to see if the wall was still there. When I

Currently, 15% of young women in America have some type of eating disorder (Eating). Some grow

Difference Between Cricket And Cricket
Baseball vs Cricket
To many people think baseball and cricket are very similar, but the rules of hitting, fielding, and
running are completely different. They bother having someone hitting the ball and throwing, but the
traditions of the sports are what separate them completely. The two sports are argued which one is the
greatest of all time. Baseball is more common in America then Cricket. Baseball is known as the
pastime of American. It began in the late 1800 s and is very popular today. There are many different
types of baseball played all over. They go from tee ball to Major league baseball. Kids basically grew
up playing this sport in American. Hitting in baseball starts when the pitcher toes the rubber. The
pitcher throws the ball however he wants, as long as he does not deceive a runner that is on base with
his motion toward home plate. The hitter uses a round bat to hit the round ball squarely. The batter can
hit the ball wherever he wants or can. For the batter to be called safe he has to reach first before the
ball reaches first before he does. Each person who touches home is considered one run. The hitter can
hit the ball and stop at first base to get a single, stop at second for a double, third for a triple, or home
for a home run. A hitter can also get a home run by hitting the ball over the fence. That is the ways a
hitter can score in baseball. Fielding is completely different in baseball then cricket. There are 9
fielders on the field at once.

Research Paper On The Moonstone
The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins does not follow a traditional marriage driven plot. Although The
Moonstone s plot is not centered on marriage, it becomes essential to the story.
Introduce the characters and the aim of the essay
Without Franklin s drive to get Rachel back, the matter of the stolen moonstone would have been put
to rest. This shows that even though The Moonstone is a mystery novel, marriage plays an essential
role in enhancing the plot. The novel looks at various couples and though it ends with the marriage of
Franklin and Rachel, it does not suggest that all marriages end happily. Collins is known for
developing his ideas about marriage in his writing, including novels such as The Moonstone, The
Woman in White, and many other works. There are things within The Moonstone that both contradict
and support Collins ideas and views on marriage. Collins used his novels as a platform to express his
feeling towards Victorian marriage laws, unmarried woman, and ideas on marriage as a whole.
Marriage plays a crucial role in Wilkie Collins The Moonstone. Collins quickly introduces the idea of

Not cox only dress has to do with this question but as well body image. Body image is a growing topic
for many women today. The one I m discussing however, is a little different. We are dealing with the
objectification of women s bodies. Women are objectified every day whether we realize it or not. The
three most common topics for women s magazine is love, weight loss, and beauty. For males the three
most common is money, success and power. The comparison of magazines alone is enough proof, but
it doesn t end there. In nearly 85 percent of interviews for female actress they are asked of diet plans

nervous system and it has lasting effects on rats. According to Dzietko (2010), a small dose of MDMA
in a rat during a time where the rats brain is developing goes through major changes in different parts
of the brain. The amphetamine like substance, MDMA, has neurotoxic effects that lead to damage in
the nervous system including serotonergic fibers, dopamine levels, and neurons. MDMA specifically
has a direct effect on serotonin levels where it unleashes large amounts of it into the brain where there

Struggles Of A Black Man
Struggles Of a Black Man Ballad of the Landlord is a poem by Langston Hughes that shows the
struggles of a black man in a white society. There are opposing forces that make this black man suffer
and he gets no retribution or any justice for the things that the people accuse him of. Through each of
these voices the poem is thoroughly explained and can be analysed in such a way. The forces in this
poem is the tenant, landlord, police, and the press. Each one of these forces shows the racial struggles
of an innocent black man. The main person in the poem is the tenant, which in the last line tells us, he
is black. The tenant is characterized by his slang and his strong dislike for the landlord. The tenant
uses slang, contracted words, and nonstandard grammar. This non formal way of English suggests the
tenant s separation from the world of convention, represented by the formal way of the police and the
press, which appear later in the poem. Although the tenant speaks in a non formal way, do not let that
fool you. The tenant s reason to be mad at the landlord is reasonable and just. He begins with a
reasonable complaint and a gentle reminder that the complaint is already a week old: My roof has
sprung a leak. / Don t you member I told you about it / Way last week? (lines 2 4). In the second
stanza, he appeals diplomatically to the landlord s self interest: These steps is broken down. / When

Types Of Radiation That Can Bring About Occupational Exposure
There are three types of radiation that can bring about occupational exposure. Alpha radiation can be
stopped by something as thin as a piece of paper or one s hand (BBC, 2014). Those at risk for this
exposure are those who install and maintain smoke detectors, which use Americium 241. In this
mechanism, an electron current interrupts smoke particles, causing the alarm to trigger when it senses
smoke (Bennett, 2017). Radium 226, which is an element that is injected into tumors to battle cancer,
can affect radiology technicians and physicians that must come in close contact (Bennett, 2017).

Ability to pass more than paper allows it to measure thickness of substances such as plastic and paint
in manufacturing processes (Judge, 2017). Another, more commonly identified source of beta
radiation is a sunburn, leaving anyone working in the sun, including construction and landscaping
workers (Ward, 2017). Covering potentially exposed area with a protective garment is the best way for
either medical workers or those who work outside to guard themselves from exposure.
Gamma radiation can only be stopped by thick materials, concrete and lead (BBC, 2014). This type of
radiation is mostly used in the medical setting, treating cancer, and used in the sterilization of
equipment used in medical settings (BBC, 2014). Radiation used in sterilization of equipment can pass
through plastic, rubber, and kill bacteria and viruses (BBC, 2014). Tracers are either eaten or injected.
They show where the tracer has built up in body, indicating abnormal areas, possibly cancer or tumors
(BBC, 2014). This leaves medical workers being at risk for exposure to these rays, which can lead to
genetic mutations long term. Lead aprons and barrier walls would be the best route to mitigate these
types of rays, since they cannot be avoided by these workers.

Racist beliefs related to moral and intellectual characteristics still persist. The belief that one s race is

Third, Environmental Determinism and Biological Determinism are similar because everyone is
affected by Environmental Determinism and Biological Determinism. Environments affect the
survival and growth of a person. Different environments affect a person s culture and decision making.
Environmental factors have a strong impact on a person. A gene is a unit of hereditary information that
occupies a fixed position on a Chromosome (Encyclopedia Britannica). A Chromosome is a
Threadlike part of the cell that carries hereditary information in the form of Genes (Encyclopedia
Britannica). A defining feature of any chromosome is its compactness. For instance, the 46
chromosomes found in human cells have a combined length of 200 nm (1 nm = 10− 9 metre); if the
chromosomes were to be unraveled, the genetic material they contain would measure roughly 2 metres
(about 6.5 feet) in length (Encyclopedia Britannica). Human beings rely on genetic material. People
pass on genetic traits to offspring. Phenotype is the interaction between Biology and the environment.

The Security Of The Internet Of Things
Introduction
The topic we chose to analyze in this research paper is information systems security. More
specifically, we examined the security of the Internet of Things. The Internet of Things is an ever
growing avenue of technology that is constantly improving in connectivity and user friendly
interactions. IoT is defined by Forbes writer Jacob Morgan (2014) as the concept of basically
connecting any device with an on and off switch to the Internet (and/or to each other). This [including]
... cell phones, coffee makers, washing machines, headphones, lamps, ... and almost anything else you
can think of . In other words, IoT is the glue that holds the world of technology together. Within this
field we have developed a compelling thesis question. Its answer could help propel this market into
the future: What can be done to improve the security of the Internet of Things in the home? This
question is pivotal as the home is one of the most cherished yet vulnerable possessions a person has.
The IoT of any given home may contain harmless things, such as grocery lists, family photos, or
calendar events, but it can also contain sensitive data that, if stolen by a hacker, could tear a household
apart. This includes social security numbers, credit card numbers, and bank account information.
Because this information is so important and in need of protection, the greatest possible effort must be
put forward to protect it. It is virtually impossible to completely prevent hacking in all

have to do the task. The reason why she gave us specific time to think and write our ideas is she want
to train us to brainstorm before doing something. This is how I generate my idea and choose the best
option that I have using the list of ideas that I have from brainstorming process. This process can be
interesting part of generating idea because I just write what I have in my mind even though it is not
logic and impossible to do. However, here come next step, which give solution to the brainstorming
process. I used to call it elimination process. In this process, I need

Graffiti As A Form Of Art Essay
Art is an evolutionary act. The shape of art and its role in society is constantly changing. At no point is
art static. There are no rules (Raymond Harmon). In 1966 a man named Cornbread was the first
known person to ever create a piece of art called graffiti and tagging it. Later, people started tagging
subways, and everyone wanted to have their own unique tag. So, they started to become creative and
become different from each other. Now it has evolved over several years and become something
beautiful and eye opening, something that means the world to people without saying a single word.
This something is known as graffiti. An article written by Mark Halsey Alison Young, brings to light
the complex and creative aspects of graffiti ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By doing graffiti children have a way to feel special and connected to the world. Nothing else matters,
not even the fact that they are poor or have a bad family situation. These children need something to
focus on, to take their minds off of the cruel things in life and to focus on the amazing things in life.
Not many pedestrians appreciate graffiti. They think that it is vandalism because it can be done
anywhere from an abandoned office building to a blank wall at a car wash. This is valid, some graffiti
is vandalism, when people start writing foul language and trashing a famous or popular place with this
language. When property has been defaced without permission it is vandalism and citizens come to be
angry, because it costs the community money to clean up the graffiti. that money could be used in
other ways to help the community. Tens of millions of taxpayer dollars are being spent annually on
cleaning up graffiti and repairing the damage that it causes ( Crime ). The community is angry because
the money being spent on cleaning up the graffiti could be spent on other problems that could help the
community. Vandalisms can also be dangerous considering the locations that they are done at. For
instance, the majority of people will vandalize along train tracks and an accident could occur while
being there. Graffiti can also affect the environment and your own health. Because graffiti is done

Thomas More Dystopia
Utopia which written by Thomas More is a story that can only be applied as an imagination. More
uses more than a half space of the book for discussing how a perfect world looks like because he
wants to provide all the details of a prefect kingdom for readers to create their imagination. He also
tries to have readers to ponder the differences between the imaginal world: Utopia, and the real world.
This is a reflection of More s value. He sees the weakness of the society, and also predicts the future
of it. Therefore he writes Utopia for readers to imagine a safety society, an image of the weakness of a
society, and an image of self deprecating about the conflicts between the real world and the imaginal
society.
The scene of completely peaceful and safety can only be appeared in this story. The narrator, Raphael,
brings out the dream place: Utopia, by saying there is plenty of everything, and no reason to fear that
anyone will claim more than he needs (More 50). The people who live in Utopia and this place seems
to be the perfect match to each other. However, due to the personal rapacity, there is never enough for
human. Therefore, the peace from Utopia can only be an imagination of More. ... Show more content

Weaknesses small as personal rapacity, or big as authoritarianism of the government had been
happening since human were living on the earth. By using the example which happened in England,
Raphael said that most princes apply themselves to the arts of war...instead of to the good arts of peace
(15). War is the biggest enemy to civilian. It causes people to lose their family, decrease consumption,
and various negative effects. Obviously, there are less princes that are interesting on putting peace in
their first priority which is the biggest weakness for a

Stereotypes Of Professional Athletes
Competitive and professional sports is a cardinal fixture in the lives of billions all across the globe.
Sport is cherished and idolized by many as it gives the viewers loads of entertainment as well as a
sense of pride. Sport has the ability to unite entire nations as there is a mutual sentiment attached to
the desire of wanting your team to outperform the rest, it is all based on the notion that an athlete or
team is representing you as an individual and an entire country. Professional athletes often have a
certain stigma attached to them they make tons of money, drive exotic sports cars, live in fancy
houses, travel all over the world, they have achieved this by doing what they love day in and day out
by playing sport.
This flamboyant stereotype also represents athletes at an amateur level. The high school / university
superstar athletes are seen as broad and aesthetic leaders who get all the attention from peers and most
of the time they are role models to aspiring younger athletes. However, the vast majority of people do
not see what is unfolding behind the scenes for these athletes. There is a darker side of the spectrum
that shouldn t be ignored. The early mornings of training, the strict dietary requirements, the endless
hours in the gym and the 100% dedication ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Video Games, Social, And Social And Emotional Wellbeing Of...
The latest video games, social sites, blogs, and etc. seem to catch most teens attentions these days. It
may be safe to say that parents can rarely find their child without at least one interactive social media
of some sort. Parents worry their child is online for too long, the internet may deprive teens of social
skills needed in face to face conversation, or the internet is a place full of exposure to the cruelty of
harsh harassment from peers, better known as cyberbullying. But with most negatives comes a
positive and the internet seems to be one of negatives that come with a positive feature as well. These
online communities are good sources for teenagers because of the encouragement they give teens to
expand their variety of friends while exploring and learning the necessity of a healthy relationship.
In all of the articles, Teenagers Leading Happy, Connected Lives Online by KJ Dell Antonia, Growing
up with Social Networks and Online Communication by Robert Strom, and Social Networking and the
Social and Emotional Wellbeing of Adolescents in Australia by Amanda Bourgeois, the authors argue
that adolescents being online is a beneficial thing to growing teens. Each author includes evidence
they collected from surveys taken by the teenagers and test ran to evaluate the effects of the teens
being online. Amanda Bourgeosis, a fellow researcher at the School of Education, specializing in
social and wellbeing of youth, gathers data and examinations from child

Arnold Schwarzenegger Controversy
The picture I have posted is of Arnold Schwarzenegger. My question to you is, would you elect this
guy as president? Arnold Schwarzenegger began his career as a body builder and later became a
famous actor, staring in many famous movies and roles. In 2003 he ran for governor of California and
won. However, his career and home life have been shadowed by many controversies. One such
controversy is that Schwarzenegger has admitted to steroid use during his bodybuilding career. He
stated steroids were helpful to me in maintaining muscle size while on a strict diet in preparation for a
contest. I did not use them for muscle growth, but rather for muscle maintenance when cutting up .
This statement would make one question his integrity,

Recruiting Challenges in the Public Sector
December 22, 2008
Final Project: Recruiting Challenges in the Public Sector There are rules, regulations and ordinances
that all guide the recruiting process in the public sector; however, in my opinion these challenges just
interfere with a governmental agencies ability to hire the best and most qualified new employees. As
an example, a couple of the solutions that I think will help the public sector s recruiting process are 1)
making the application process more simplistic, 2) targeting younger workers by working with
universities and colleges and 3) developing a workforce strategy. The public sector has a lot ... Show

When it comes to recruiting in the private sector, there are a few guidelines that you might reference
here and there, but by and large recruiting is done without interference. The process seems fairly
simple; you develop a job description, establish a salary structure and place an advertisement. There
are no testing requirements or mandates that you need to satisfy to be able to hire a new employee.
Along with this the time it takes to recruit someone in the private sector takes only as long as it takes
to get a qualified applicant to apply for a position and interview for the job. Interviewing is straight
forward and although an applicant might go through two or three interviews, before being offered the
position, there is no one outside the organization telling the organization how to recruit and how to
hire a qualified applicant. Recruiting in the public sector is so much more complex than it is in the
private sector. In the public sector many positions have testing requirements built into them. This
means that you must test the candidates that meet the minimum qualifications, which at times means
you test over 100 people with some positions, and with some positions within the Fire and Police
Departments; this means that there could be well over 1,000 applicants to test. The testing process
various by positions, for

Romanticism In Oliver Twist
Introduction:
In mid 19th century England, realistic literature came as a response to the preceding romantic period.
The romantic period was known to emphasize the experiences of the individual and was regarded as a
highly aesthetic period. It was related with the movement of sensibility or sentimentalism, which
stressed the importance of emotions and feelings of sympathy (Kitson 328 329). Contrarily, realism
during the Victorian age aimed to address economic and social issues in society by depicting the
struggles in the developing society as accurately as possible (Redd). Consequently, in the 1830s, when
Charles Dickens was writing Oliver Twist, it is justifiable that elements of both realism and
sentimentalism can be found in the novel. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most notably, Dickens depiction of London (in particular the workhouses and other social institutions)
and his criminal characters have a very prominent realistic effect. However before going into detail
about the realistic setting and characters, it would be beneficial to take a look at Dickens preface for
Oliver Twist. In his preface for Oliver Twist, Dickens justifies his reasons for writing about the
criminals of London; he had the impression that real thieves and pickpockets were not portrayed
correctly in literature during that time. For that reason, he felt that it was necessary to show these
crooks as they really were, for ever skulking uneasily through the dirtiest paths of life (7). He also
believed that doing this would be a service to society , and that he did it as best as [he] could . He
explains that he won t be writing about appealing and pleasant situations; ...no merry makings in the
snuggest of all possibly caverns, none of the attractions of dress, no embroidery, no lace... (8). In
essence, this preface foreshadows the realistic elements in the novel by telling the readers where to
look. Clearly the characters and setting will be portrayed as honestly and truthfully as possible,
without overlooking even one hole in the Dodger s coat, or one scrap of curl paper in Nancy s
dishevelled hair (9) and describing the cold wet shelterless midnight streets of London; the foul and
frowsy dens, where vice is closely packed and lacks the room to turn [...]

Andrew Ladd Case Study
This summer, general manager Garth Snow went out and signed Andrew Ladd to a big money deal
and Jason Chimera to replace the departed Matt Martin, hoping to add some additional veteran
leadership to a team coming off its first playoff round victory in over 20 years.
Even though the offensive numbers have been slow to arrive (Chimera with 4 5 9 in 25 games but
three goals past five games and Ladd 3 3 6 in 25 games but 1 2 3 in past five games), they have
combined with existing veterans to help the Islanders out of the types of malaise that struck the team
during the months of October (4 5 0) and November (4 5 4).
After a string of one regulation win in 12 games, New York has won three of its last four in regulation,

Critically Asses The Views Of Paul Tillich On Religious Language Paul Tillich was a renowned American Protestant theologian born in Prussia 1886. As a self proclaimed philosophical theologian, Tillich saw the very nature of Christian faith expressed in religious symbols that demanded constant reinterpretation. He was famous for believing that it is possible to speak meaningfully about metaphysical concepts and therefore came up with the theory that religious language, because it is symbolic in nature, has an overwhelming effect upon humans. Tillich argued that religious language is symbolic. This means that religious symbols communicate the most significant values and beliefs of human beings. In his theory, Tillich firstly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tillich famously used the example of a national flag to illustrate his point: a flag points to something beyond itself, the country it represents, but also participates in the meaning of the country. He believed that symbols could unite a religious believer with a deeper dimension of himself as well as with a greater reality. He also believed that symbols must emerge out of an individual collective unconsciousness, and can only function when they are accepted by the unconscious. For Tillich symbols cannot be just invented, but instead live and die at the appropriate times. Also Tillich suggests that religious faith, can express itself only in symbolic language, because whatever we say about that which concerns us ultimately...has a symbolic meaning presumably because it is of greater concern and import than the mere language, which can only point towards it. The language of faith is the language of symbols Tillich then went onto develop his idea of a symbol further by outlining the functions in which a symbol carries out which are Point to something beyond themselves, Participate in that to which they point, Open up reality that otherwise are closed to us and finally They also open up the levels and dimensions of the soul that correspond to those levels of reality. Tillich furthermore argued that symbolic language operates in a similar way that a piece of music, art work or poetry might. This is because they can heave a deep overwhelming effect upon ... • 3. Descriptive Essay About Myself With my green plastic safety scissors from my pencil case, I hid under the craft table in my living room and sawed off my blonde bangs until there were only millimeter long blonde sprigs of hair left sticking from the top of my forehead. This was just the first of many times that I tried to change my appearance to escape the shadow of my sister and become my own unique person. At the age of four, I lacked any formal hairdresser education so my DIY haircut forced me to wear many wide headbands to hide the hideous sprigs of butchered hair, but in my mind my mission was successful, because I finally looked different than my sister. Anna, my identical twin, looks exactly like me, except for the odd freckle, our slightly different nose structures and the slight chip on her upper left tooth. I can always tell us apart so I hardly notice that I basically have a clone following me around all the time, but for others knowing which twin I am proves challenging. It didn t help when my mom dressed in matching outfits from head to toe. For my first Halloween my brother dressed up like a firefighter and Anna and I were his dalmatians, then he was a farmer and we were pigs. When we turned five we decided to pick out our own clothes. Wohl s Theory Of Health And Social Care Wohl (1983) produced a well researched and documented account of public health and development in Britain; starting from the middle of the 19th century to the early 20th century. The author eloquently described the horrendous and devastating levels of the nations poverty and poor health. Within Victorian society few people were free from illness/disease, average lifespan, stench and impurified water. The shift in socioeconomic differences, intolerable living conditions and significantly poor working conditions took on an added dimension because of the increasing number of rural residents relocating to towns in order to seek employment. Nan Roman of the National Alliance to End Homelessness said higher food and fuel prices hitting families with no cushion . When these families can t afford the daily basics, they take from another part of the budget. Those who had no cushion soon find themselves out of money for their bills and many ultimately end up homeless. Job loss is another large contributor to the increase in homelessness. Balanced Scorecard and Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Program Comparison Merriam Webster defines quality as a degree of excellence, or a distinguishing attribute. Managers strive for excellence in the workplace to improve customer satisfaction, increase the output in manufacturing while minimizing defects, as well as making the company more profitable. There are several different management systems or methodologies available for businesses to use, but the Balanced Scorecard and the Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Program is the most common and widely used in the United States. The Balanced Scorecard Institute reports that in the 1950 s General Electric was the first to use the Balanced Scorecard approach, but it was not until the 1990 s when Dr. Robert Kaplan a Harvard Business School professor and Dr. David Norton officially titled it the Balanced Scorecard. Once used as only a measurement tool for organizations, it is now a complete strategic planning and management system (Balanced Scorecard Institute, n.d.). Originally, businesses looked at the financial reports to distinguish whether it was a quality company or not. Kaplan and Norton however believed the financial reports only showed past history and an organization must also track how it is performing currently and look at ways to constantly improve future performance. Kaplan and Norton established there are four business segments or perspectives to measure and make improvements on. The four segments ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In HDAC8 the Lys 33 residue, while it has a hydrophobic chain, does not participate in staking interactions. The imidazole ring now adopts a T shaped π π stacking interaction between Phe 152 and Phe 208, whereas it was parallel displaced in HDAC2. This less favored double T shaped interaction prevents the formation of a hydrogen bond in the core of HDAC8. ETS2 in HDAC8 also shows the shift of the indole ring to the right side of the gorge to now hydrogen bond with Gly 184, and the oxazole ring also adopts more of a T shaped orientation with the Phe 208 in HDAC8 compared to a parallel π π orientation. These maroon societies would later act as sanctuaries for escaped slaves throughout the Caribbean. It s a very detrimental trait for someone in a leadership position, as it leads to only doing things that benefit the leader, and makes conditions worse for the people. Napoleon and the pigs did numerous things that were selfish during the course of the book. They changed things like the commandments to make their actions seem right and acceptable. The pigs and dogs got better and more food and never worked, while the other animals slaved away and starved. They never cared about anything but themselves, which is clearly seen after they changed the commandments completely to just All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others (Orwell, 134). Sport has the ability to unite entire nations as there is a mutual sentiment attached to the desire of wanting your team to outperform the rest, it is all based on the notion that an athlete or team is representing you as an individual and an entire country. Professional athletes often have a certain stigma attached to them they make tons of money, drive exotic sports cars, live in fancy houses, travel all over the world, they have achieved this by doing what they love day in and day out by playing sport. This flamboyant stereotype also represents athletes at an amateur level. The high school / university superstar athletes are seen as broad and aesthetic leaders who get all the attention from peers and most of the time they are role models to aspiring younger athletes. However, the vast majority of people do not see what is unfolding behind the scenes for these athletes. There is a darker side of the spectrum that shouldn t be ignored. • 44. Video Games, Social, And Social And Emotional Wellbeing Of... The latest video games, social sites, blogs, and etc. seem to catch most teens attentions these days. It may be safe to say that parents can rarely find their child without at least one interactive social media of some sort. Parents worry their child is online for too long, the internet may deprive teens of social skills needed in face to face conversation, or the internet is a place full of exposure to the cruelty of harsh harassment from peers, better known as cyberbullying. But with most negatives comes a positive and the internet seems to be one of negatives that come with a positive feature as well. These online communities are good sources for teenagers because of the encouragement they give teens to expand their variety of friends while exploring and learning the necessity of a healthy relationship. In all of the articles, Teenagers Leading Happy, Connected Lives Online by KJ Dell Antonia, Growing up with Social Networks and Online Communication by Robert Strom, and Social Networking and the Social and Emotional Wellbeing of Adolescents in Australia by Amanda Bourgeois, the authors argue that adolescents being online is a beneficial thing to growing teens. Arnold Schwarzenegger began his career as a body builder and later became a famous actor, staring in many famous movies and roles. In 2003 he ran for governor of California and won. • 46. Recruiting Challenges in the Public Sector Essay Jennifer Gabbard Management Communications with Technology Tools Recruiting Challenges in the Public Sector December 22, 2008 Final Project: Recruiting Challenges in the Public Sector There are rules, regulations and ordinances that all guide the recruiting process in the public sector; however, in my opinion these challenges just interfere with a governmental agencies ability to hire the best and most qualified new employees. As an example, a couple of the solutions that I think will help the public sector s recruiting process are 1) making the application process more simplistic, 2) targeting younger workers by working with universities and colleges and 3) developing a workforce strategy. The public sector has a lot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When it comes to recruiting in the private sector, there are a few guidelines that you might reference here and there, but by and large recruiting is done without interference. The process seems fairly simple; you develop a job description, establish a salary structure and place an advertisement. There are no testing requirements or mandates that you need to satisfy to be able to hire a new employee. Along with this the time it takes to recruit someone in the private sector takes only as long as it takes to get a qualified applicant to apply for a position and interview for the job. Interviewing is straight forward and although an applicant might go through two or three interviews, before being offered the position, there is no one outside the organization telling the organization how to recruit and how to hire a qualified applicant. Recruiting in the public sector is so much more complex than it is in the private sector. In the public sector many positions have testing requirements built into them. This means that you must test the candidates that meet the minimum qualifications, which at times means you test over 100 people with some positions, and with some positions within the Fire and Police Departments; this means that there could be well over 1,000 applicants to test. The testing process various by positions, for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Romanticism In Oliver Twist Introduction: In mid 19th century England, realistic literature came as a response to the preceding romantic period. The romantic period was known to emphasize the experiences of the individual and was regarded as a highly aesthetic period. It was related with the movement of sensibility or sentimentalism, which stressed the importance of emotions and feelings of sympathy (Kitson 328 329). Contrarily, realism during the Victorian age aimed to address economic and social issues in society by depicting the struggles in the developing society as accurately as possible (Redd). Consequently, in the 1830s, when Charles Dickens was writing Oliver Twist, it is justifiable that elements of both realism and sentimentalism can be found in the novel. This ... Most notably, Dickens depiction of London (in particular the workhouses and other social institutions) and his criminal characters have a very prominent realistic effect. However before going into detail about the realistic setting and characters, it would be beneficial to take a look at Dickens preface for Oliver Twist. In his preface for Oliver Twist, Dickens justifies his reasons for writing about the criminals of London; he had the impression that real thieves and pickpockets were not portrayed correctly in literature during that time. For that reason, he felt that it was necessary to show these crooks as they really were, for ever skulking uneasily through the dirtiest paths of life (7). He also believed that doing this would be a service to society , and that he did it as best as [he] could . He explains that he won t be writing about appealing and pleasant situations; ...no merry makings in the snuggest of all possibly caverns, none of the attractions of dress, no embroidery, no lace... (8). In essence, this preface foreshadows the realistic elements in the novel by telling the readers where to look. Clearly the characters and setting will be portrayed as honestly and truthfully as possible, without overlooking even one hole in the Dodger s coat, or one scrap of curl paper in Nancy s dishevelled hair (9) and describing the cold wet shelterless midnight streets of London; the foul and frowsy dens, where vice is closely packed and lacks the room to turn [...] ... Even though the offensive numbers have been slow to arrive (Chimera with 4 5 9 in 25 games but three goals past five games and Ladd 3 3 6 in 25 games but 1 2 3 in past five games), they have combined with existing veterans to help the Islanders out of the types of malaise that struck the team during the months of October (4 5 0) and November (4 5 4).
