Dorigen s Pledge With Aurelius
Dorigen s Pledge With Aurelius has Trapped her In a World of Pain I will be looking at the Franklin s
tale, lines 1359 66 and 1479 86. In the first passage Dorigen is torn between sleeping with Aurelius an
act of infidelity, and kill herself to keep from staining her body. Her conflict is due to her having given
her word to both Aurelius and Arviragus (foolishly and willingly). In the second passage, Arviragus
tells his wife to keep her promise with Aurelius and then threatens to kill her if she tells anyone about
the act she will be committing. It is the third promise that puts her in the tension about not knowing
what to do.
I will focus on the constraints and friction Dorigen faces with her third pledge that leads to tension
between her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She told Aurelius that if he removed the rocks from the ocean to save Arviragus she would sleep with
him. She has given her word to Aurelius freely, thinking this was the only way to save her husband;
instead of rescuing him, though she creates a distance between them a tainted marriage. Not only does
Dorigen drag her husband into her unfaithful pledge, but she puts herself in a position of instability
and indecisiveness. As Dorigen states, I levere and my body, she reiterates her uncertainly on her
pledge with Aurelius and how she has to choose to sacrifice her body or her marriage (1360 61).
Dorigen does not have a clue about what step to take. She recapitulates how this tension is cluttered
with unending confusion and indecisiveness about what actions to take, the pledge she made and her
life, which ties back to her husband, who is part of her life. She is in constant conflict with herself as
she repeats herself in her words stating, myselven...my name...my deeth (1362 63). Dorigen s
repetition of my increases the tension among herself as she continues her own conversation of what to
do with herself and weighing all results. She swings back and forth unsteadily, with no good place to
fall back

The Industrial Leaders of the 19th Century Should be Admired for their Work
The industrial leaders, Robber Barons, of the 19th century are men who are very respected and
admired. Andrew Carnegie was a boy from Scotland who came over to this country with nothing. He
continued to save and work his way up in the industry until he had complete control over the steel
industry. John D. Rockefeller was also one who came from an ordinary home. When he saw an
opportunity, he took it, along with the risks. He came to control the oil industry. Another man that took
many opportunities to expand and grow was Cornelius Vanderbilt. These men saw what they needed
to do to become successful and they did it. These men s lives reflected the ... Show more content on

He sold the company to J. P. Morgan, for which he personally received $250 million of the $492
million Morgan paid for it. He supported and began many corporations and institutions. Many positive
establishments were created only because of his generous donations. To this day many people are still
benefiting from the large Carnegie fortune. Cornelius Vanderbilt was the most powerful railroad
baron. He earned a fortune for himself in the steamship line. He also combined the New York and
Harlem and New York and Hudson estate ferry boat operations. He established a connection between
New York and Albany to make Lake Shore and Michigan Southern link Buffalo with Chicago. When
he died he owned and operated nearly 4500 miles of track between New York City and most of the
important cities in the Midwest. He left his fortune to his son, unlike the others he did not donate to
many organizations. The only contribution he gave was to support the, now, Vanderbilt College.
John D. Rockefeller also started at humble beginnings. By taking risks and investing he found himself
engulfed in the rapidly expanding oil industry. Not yet in the business directly he started his own
company, The Standard Oil Company of Cleveland. Rockefeller s stake in the oil industry increased as
the industry itself expanded caused by the rapidly spreading use of kerosene. The Standard Oil
eventually, in a few years, purchased and controlled almost all the refining firms in Cleveland, plus
two refineries

Dumbest Generation Thesis
Synthesis Essay The younger generation of Americans, those under the age of thirty, are often
criticized as being the dumbest generation . Many Americans blame technology for making goods so
plentiful, schooling so accessible, diversion so easy, and liberties so copious (Bauerlein). Many are
posing the question: Is the increasing ease in life causing our intelligence to slip? Those under thirty
are not the dumbest generation, in fact, technology is expanding, changing, and pushing in new
directions intelligence and mental capacity. Technology has allowed young Americans to transform
the way they think and learn. According to a 2008 study by Mizuko Ito, the internet has allowed the
flourishing of self directed learning. The enormous possibilities the internet offers, allows people to
delve into topics or research a variety of areas that interest them. People can now explore their
curiosity endlessly. Researches have also noticed a change in literacy among the younger generation.

Computer and video games, for example, challenge mental dexterity. The complexity of the
environments and worlds the players must navigate, encourage the growth of their problem solving
skills (Johnson). The older generation often scrutinizes the younger Americans on not being to answer
general knowledge questions. However, this is not the result of dumbness but of choice. Young
Americans are able to think critically and logically, analyze an argument, to learn and remember, to
see analogies, to distinguish fact from opinion. (Begley). Knowing the capital of Denmark, and other
such facts, is not important to this generation, and therefore, they are evolving the way intelligence is

1970s Music Did you know that the inspiration behind Led Zeppelin s name came from something
their drummer had always said going down like a lead zeppelin and of course they changed the
spelling of lead to led so Americans wouldn t pronounce it leed (Stewart 82). There are many things
known about the seventies from Nixon s presidency, the Watergate scandal to all the popular music
genres and fashion choices and how they all had some effect on the average life of the common
people. The Watergate scandal definitely brought around a change, the change in the view of morality
among the American people, but the music brought an even larger change among everyone. Because,
it s a well known events about the 70s most people bring up the Watergate scandal. On June 17, 1972

was more than just what was traditionally expected from them, that they were their own person and
could define the norms for themselves and not depend on what other people say or think about them.
Middle class boomers were both the instigators and the victims of unprecedented sexual change; they

The Illusion that Money Brings Happiness
Some would say we are slaves to our primal urges, shackled in our endless pursuit of gratification and
shaping our very existence around them. We gravitate towards the things in life that bring us pleasure,
and recoil from those that cause us pain. People always show a feeling of wanting everything their
way, as to wanting something. Just like everything else there are always limits. In order to obtain these
things that people believe will bring them happiness, many go over the line. Many believe that with
money they can have anything they desire. Though it may be true to an extent, sometimes the desires
eventually turn into greed and people lose some of the most valuable things life has to offer.
Focusing on the illusion that money brings happiness may have an unexpected turn later down the
road. For instance, when someone reflects on how money would change their sense of well being, they
would probably think about spending more time in leisurely pursuits such as traveling abroad. But in
reality, they would have to spend a large amount of time working and less time engaged in
experienced happiness. Robert H. Frank says in his book Luxury Fever: Money and Happiness in an
Era of Excess:
Even among those who can easily afford today s luxury offerings, there has been a price to pay. All of
us rich and poor alike, but especially the rich are spending more time at the office and taking shorter
vacations; we are spending less time with our families and friends; and we have

Police Officers Shift Essay
Falling asleep at the wheel isn t the only hazard posed by tired police. Compared with well rested
colleagues, officers who met the criteria for a sleep disorder were more likely to make serious
administrative or safety errors and exhibit uncontrolled anger toward suspects (Harding, 2011). Sleep
problems had a noticeable impact on the officer s work. Eighteen percent of officers who were
screened positive for a sleep disorder reported making serious administrative errors, versus 13% of
those without a sleep disorder, while 24% made other errors or safety violations attributable to fatigue.
Also, 34% percent of officers with a sleep disorder reported losing their temper with civilians,

The vast majority of police officers work a variety of shift schedules. Traditional police organizations
separate each day or 24 hour period into three tours also called shifts, watches or platoons (Dempsey
Forst, 2005). Some police agencies employ the traditional 8 hour shift, while others engage a 10 hour
shift or a 12 hour shift has been associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular and sleep
disorders, attributable to its propensity for circadian rhythm dysfunction. Police officers have been
shown to exhibit an increased prevalence of fatigue, which may predispose them to greater frequency
of accidents and workplace injuries (Elliot, 2016, p. 13). Concerns have been raised over extended
work hour, specifically the deleterious effects upon health and sleep quality that may potentiate fatigue
and sleepiness. Despite being used synonymously, due to symptomatic similarities, sleepiness and
fatigue have been found to be distinct and will compromise an individual s performance. The
suggested ergonomic and social benefits not withstanding shiftwork has

The Apache Creation Story Analysis
The Apache Creation Story is a reliving of the creation that takes on a more personal, familial and
dialogue based approach to how the world and mankind came to be. The story depicts how the natural
environment was created, from the earth itself to the four cardinal points to the clouds, the animals,
and the trees. Because of the nature of the Apache s nomadic life, the legend remains generalized in
terms of its location. Typically the story is told in order to preserve their tribal history as well as social
and instructional purposes. These occasions range from the campfire to rites of passage to simply a
parent teaching their child of their historical identity. The legend of creation is central to the spiritual
practices and beliefs of the Apache, especially when it comes to their relationship with the natural
world. As explained in the first two phrases of the story, animals, elements, the solar system, and
natural phenomena are revered by the Apaches. By sharing this story with younger tribe members, the
Apache engage them in understanding their traditions. It also teaches them of the morality they must
have and pass on when it comes to nature, as Montejo mentions (21). It tells of the role of all living
beings on earth and the importance of them all working harmoniously to keep the universe balanced.
The legend is split up into a series of small stanzas that describe the actual life conditions. Following
the two sentence prelude to the myth, the storyteller introduces

The Role Of Police Women In Law Enforcement
The role of police women has come a long way since they were finally acknowledged into the field of
law enforcement. Nevertheless law enforcement still struggles to hire and retain female officers for a
number of reasons. There have been many guidelines put in place, but female officer s still face
discrimination that discourage them away or hinder their promotion opportunities. Police departments
are under major pressure from the public to hire more female officers. The literature review shows a
female officers struggle in gaining success in a male dominated career. Law enforcement has been
considered as a man s job and now that women have proven they are capable of the job, police men
are not as accepting. Research shows that police men s views on women in the police force are
resilient to the fact that women are able to perform all tasks of the job. This paper will discuss what
obstacles women have faced in the police role and also provide recommendations to help hire and
retain these female officers.
Literature Review
Sir Robert Peel is known for his achievement in passing the Metropolitan Police Act in 1829, which
led to the establishment of the first modern police force. He believed it should be defined as a full time
and uniformed officer with a main purpose of patrolling the city. He would only select officers that fit
a certain mold, which meant they had to be trained and disciplined. During the creation of this police
force, women were not permitted to take part. In the mid 1800 s is when women were first actively
employed into the police force. But even then they were given administrative duties or assigned to
specialized bureaus, mostly working with juveniles and children. During the great depression there
were huge changes on how employment was viewed, because of this women s employment suffered.
A married woman with a job was seen as dishonorably taking away employment from a man trying to
financially care for his family. (Milton, 1972) By tradition, women were viewed as the caretaker of
children and the role of taking care of the house while the man is to be the main source of income.
Entrance exams for the police role often required extensive physical agility tests, some of which have

The Internet And The Rights Of Private Citizens
The Internet and the Rights of Private Citizens
Good afternoon Ladies and Gentleman.
Today I would like to discuss a few of the laws that govern one of the world s greatest assets, the
Internet. It is the finest source of inspired, diverse, enabling and democratizing communication ever to
tie people across the globe together. Anyone with some simple computer equipment can communicate
their ideas to countless people at one time through what can truly be called the world s first true mass

The Communications Decency Act (CDA) was written to stop and or target online obscenity and child

According to the CDA it is a crime to send, display or view any content considered to be that is
considered indecent or patently offensive. Problem arises in the useable definitions of indecent and
patently offensive. In the past, the CDA has banned and attempted to prosecute constitutionally
protected speech on the Internet on topics like sexuality, reproduction, civil liberties, and human
rights. There were multiple lawsuits and court cases after President Clinton signed this bill into law in
1996. Various online communication users and providers from political, educational, medical, artistic,
and social value venues were all possible targets for prosecution under CDA. This government
censorship was unnecessary because there are already laws and filtering technologies in place to

to protect their children if they choose to use them. Parents can also limit computer access and be
diligent about scrutinizing where their children go on the Internet. The CDA s law banning indecent

Problem Statement:
Toyota grew at a record speed and could not keep up with the speed in which it was growing. They are
a centralized company and Japan only made the decisions. This prevented the company to keep up
with the safety problems. The process that Toyota external suppliers follow when improving product
and making sure the product is functioning properly before shipping to Toyota needs to be improved
before they release the product from their warehouse to be sent to Toyota. This problem began when
the company started to rapidly grow. Toyota s lack of communication led to the faulty gas pedal recall.

It is important that Toyota improve their communication and process of evaluating their parts because
if they don t they risk losing customers and market shares. An improved process would also give them
reassures that this issue does not arise again. According to Porter (1996) Delivering greater value
allows a company to charge a higher average unit price; greater efficiency result in lower average unit
cost (p.62). Toyota needs to focus more on quality than quantity. After quality is critiqued then they
can continue to grow at a lower rate. If Toyota gives their North American companies power to make
decisions than it would be a huge improvement to the companies and less risk of safety issues.
Toyota showing their customers, potential customers and shareholders that they have improved the
way they communicate their process and procedures will lead to gaining their confidence back in the
way Toyota does business. This will also allow Toyota to gain their good reputation back and lead to
gaining profits. Communication is the most important asset in how a company does business and is the
strength of a company. Toyota closing gaps and strengthening the way they communicate will lead to
a stronger Toyota.

Toyota going from centralized to decentralize will give them more opportunity to quickly respond to
issues. Incorporating external information will give Toyota a more competitive

The Cultural Celebration Of Puerto Rico
When we are young, we don t pay much attention to our family culture food traditions. Maybe we do,
but most of the times we enjoy them, more than knowing the feeling behind that specific plate or the
hard work that take to prepare a good family tradition dinner that one can remember even when many
years had passed. Food tradition defines our culture. Not only defines our culture, but give us a special
connection with our culture and a connection with our family members in the distance and also can
evoke great memories with your family. Many different culture, celebrates Christmas different way,
but if you haven t celebrated Christmas in Puerto Rico, you can t understand the importance role
between food and music as part of this cultural celebration.

Human Evolution Quiz
Hello,
I took the time to take the Human Variation Quiz before reviewing the text and lesson. I wanted a less
informed view.
Identify which question(s) you had the most difficulty in answering.
While a few of the questions required thought, there were only a few that I was unsure about.
Questions number 3, Asians, Africans and Europeans share common DNA variations, but African s
have additional variations that the other two categories do not. I found that difficult because I had
assume there were no difference. What does this mean? It means that race is not genetic.

It is not the only factor that changes DNA. Natural selection and our environment have an effect, but it
is a slower progress.
Why are such misconceptions about race popularized?
With any misconception, the problem stems from lack of knowledge. The term race used presently is
incorrect and became popularized Contemporary scholars agree that race was a recent invention and
that it was essentially a folk idea, not a product of scientific research and discovery (www.pbs.org).
Race is term that is built on the science of genetics.
Let s begin from a more genetic approach. Unlike species of primates, human being do not vary as
largely as popular opinion would have you believe. A person taken from Asia and then compared to
one from Africa would have small genetic variations. That is not taking into consideration genetic
drift. If instead a person was take from everyone 100 miles instead, you would see the change in
genetics. That is not because of raise but due to environmental and social differences.
Now for the misconception of skin color. Skin color is an evolutionary trait. Natural selection to a skin

amounts of UVB rays requires darker pigmentations to protect from over saturation of vitamin D and

The Importance Of The Relevance Of The Data
The importance of the relevance of the data has been identified since the very early work in context
aware ubiquitous systems. Despite of its importance few works have been carried out to quantify the
QoC and ensure the quality of the information on which the decisions and actions of contextaware
systems are based. Moreover, many decision support techniques are insufficient to address the runtime
uncertainty in the context information as they do not assess the QoC in an end to end fashion. We
formulate the related work into two parts: 1) QoC attributes and modeling aspects
2) Runtime decision support addressing uncertainty
A. QoC attributes and modeling aspects
QoC attributes and their modeling comes into play to capture the uncertainties in context data. A well
designed model is a key assessor to the quality of the context. Krause and Hochstatter [5] discussed
the challenges in modeling the
QoC and its usage. Several QoC models emerged but most of the QoC models were not properly
quantified according to the
QoC requirements. Castro et al. [6] investigated the accuracy of a location sensing service was
compromised. Ranganathan et al. [7] used predicate and probabilistic logic to assign confidence
values from 0 to 1 for every type of context. Dey et al. [1] suggested that mediation with the user can
help to reduce the uncertainty. QoC is modeled as meta data where additional information about the
quality of the context source is utilized to capture the uncertainty. Krause and

The History of Turkey Essay
Throughout history, the middle east has often been the focus of news reporters. A middle eastern
country that has not been exempt from this, is Turkey. Turkey has not only been a focus, but it also has
had a very long, complicated history.
The history of turkey is a very long and detailed one. Turkey was originally settled by groups of

This allowed the Turks to continue their influence. During the 1300 s, the Ottomans began to build an
empire. By 1453, they captured Constantinople. The Ottomans changed the capital s name from
Constantinople to Istanbul. During the 1500 s, the Ottoman Empire expanded and reached the height
of its power. After this time the empire began to fall apart. During the 1800 s, the Ottoman Empire had
fallen into such a state of depravity that it became known as The Sick Man of Europe . In 1829, after
losing a war against France, Britain, Russia, and Greece, the Ottomans were forced to give up control
of the Danube River. During the mid to late 1800 s, Turkey lost many pieces of land by losing the war
in 1829, and the Russo Turkish Wars. Turkey lost Algeria and Tunisia to France, and Cyprus and
Egypt to the United Kingdom. However, Cyprus and Egypt remained part of the Ottoman Empire until
1914. During the 1890 s a group of students and military officers secretly banded together and
opposed Sultan Abdülhamit s strict policies. The most influential group of these people was the
Committee of Union and Progress. In 1908, members of this group revolted against Abdülhamit in
order to force him to reinstate a constitutional government. This group made Abdülhamit surrender his
throne in 1909. In 1914, the newly reinstated Ottoman Empire joined World War I on the side of the
Central Powers. In 1915, the Allies tried to gain control of the

What is a discourse community? A discourse community is an interactive group that shares common
discourses. Meaning that they share a common set of values that similar towards others. Most of
society belongs to a discourse community that share values or even similar personalities. The
discourse communities I joined needed to reflect my personality. For example, I like culture and I like
to involve myself in some culture based activities such as Art or even Culinary Arts. Ideally
experiencing diverse cultures other than my own would directly geared towards my personality traits.
Here are a few. My personality is more of an introverted style; it mostly consists of my shyness near

Learning music was not a challenge for me, especially since I grew up in musically gifted families.
Honestly math came easy for me, mostly because I was taught to keep up with the tempo of the music.
Thankfully playing in the band came naturally for me and I liked the challenge in trying to learn an
instrument. My school performed at a couple of competitions and a few concerts as well. I continued
playing until my sophomore year in high school, I lost interest in high school; it seemed like it was
more of a chore rather something to enjoy and the students made it difficult for me to perform so, I
forced myself to leave. Before I quit the band in my sophomore year I joined the culinary arts club and
the art society. I always loved making food, I started cooking around 6 to 7 years old under
supervision of course. Slowly my parents had me help out in the kitchen, then they let me practice
making baked goods and later, they started to let cook by myself. I watched cooking shows too, and I
would just read the cooking books for hours just to know if we had the ingredients

The Seven Functions Of Management
For any organization (in this case, health organization) to succeed, survive or thrive, there must be
effective and efficient management on the part of the leadership. Management is an essential
component of any organization because it is the component that directs and coordinates the current
activities of the organization and also makes provisions on the plans for the future.
Business dictionary.com (2015) defines management as organizing and coordinating the activities of
business with the sole aim of achieving its defined objectives. It is the act of bringing people together
in other to achieve the desired objectives and goals in an effective and efficient way.
Management can also be defined as the ability or procedures made to achieve the goals of an

These fourteen principles are still in use till date as He (Fayol) is still considered as one of the most

2.1.2 Functions of Management
For management to be effective, it should be able to creatively solve problems, motivate
employees/workers and be able to achieve the organizational goals and objectives. It consists of
various components and activities which are useful to every manager without regard to their level or
status.
There are seven functions of management that I will like to discuss below; each functions are
inseparable because each one depend on the other. These management functions are:
Planning: It is a process which involves setting the aims, mission statement and objectives of the
organization and how they will be achieved. Nothing can be achieved without proper planning.
Planning outlines what tasks to do, when to do it and how to perform the tasks. Planning is based on

Themes Of Love And Death In Poetry
When looking at poetry we see it comes in many different formats. Haiku, limerick, ode, ballad, epic,
lyric, and free verse are all examples of the types of poetry in the literary world. These small works of
literature can hold so much meaning and emotion. According to Merriam Webster dictionary, poetry is
the writing that formulates a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience in language chosen
and arranged to create a specific emotional response through meaning, sound and rhythm (Poetry
n.p.). Like poetry, songs are similar because they have meaning, sound and rhythm. Without these
elements you would not get the catchy songs that are played on the radio daily. When hearing songs
about Jesus and his life there are two main themes: love and death.
Love and death are themes used in majority of Christian contemporary music. In His Life for Mine
and He s Alive by The Talley s, the theme of love and death is mentioned throughout the duration of
both songs. The group choose to sing about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay On The Revolution Of 1968
LACKING TO BE MORE INFLUENTIAL
Renown as one of the three important turning points of our modern world system besides the long
sixteenth century as a capitalist world economy; and the French Revolution of geoculture for this
world system, one that was dominated by centrist liberalism; and the world revolution of 1968, which
presaged the long terminal phase of the modern world system in which we find ourselves and which
undermined the centrist liberal geoculture that was holding the world system together. At the same
time, the undeniable predicaments that the revolution was met by the upholders of the system enabled
the World Revolution of 1968 to be lost in uprisals failing to bring about the change that it set out to
achieve.
May 1968 was the most advanced movement of an exceptional year of struggle that remains a high
point of the post WWII era. Hopes and possibilities were raised high yet the revolution never came,

Legalizing Concealed Weapons May Deter Crime Essay
Legalizing Concealed Weapons May Deter Crime
A concealed weapon is a firearm hidden on a person. Thomas Jefferson once wrote that laws that
forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit
crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather
to encourage than to prevent homicides for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence
than an armed man (Lee 147). In Florida, 315,000 permits had been issued to citizens for concealed
weapons by December 31, 1995. Only five have been revoked because the permit holder committed a
violent crime with a gun ( Kopel 129).
Many crimes could have been avoided if you could carry a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They estimate that each year in the United States there are about 2.2 to 2.5 million defensive gun uses
by civilians (Kleck 112).
Some common arguments are that it is more dangerous to have a gun in the house than to go unarmed.
They say that if you confront an armed bugler in your house you are more likely to be harmed if you
show force than if you don t. Another argument is that gun makers should know that their products
might be used in a crime and should be liable if they are used to hurt someone. Anything can be
wrongfully used. Cars, guns, hammers, ice picks, computers the list just keeps going. Only the person
using the tool is responsible for how it s used.
Excessive gun control has an opposite effect on crime rates. Data from Dr. Gary Kleck, a Florida State
University Criminologist, suggests that total ban on handgun possession increases crime rates.
Kennesaw, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, passed a city gun ordinance in 1982 that requires heads of
households (with certain exceptions) to keep at least one firearm in their homes. During the law s first
years, crimes against people, including homicide, rape, armed robbery, aggravated assault, and
residential burglary, plummeted 74 percent compared to 1981, then dropped another 45 percent in
1983 compared to 1982.
Some of Colorado s handgun laws state that it is unlawful for any person under 18 to possess a
handgun, and it is unlawful to provide or permit a juvenile to posses a handgun.

Sully Film Analysis
When Warner Bros. released Sully earlier this year, I thought it looked decent. I assumed Tom Hanks
would give a reliably good performance as the titular pilot. I guessed Clint Eastwood would tell the
story effectively. I even speculated that the film might garner some attention from the Oscars. While I
cannot yet speak to that less assumption, my other feelings about Sully proved true.
This film, billed as the untold story behind the miracle on the Hudson, stars Hanks as Captain Chesley
Sully Sullenberger, the pilot who landed his aircraft on the Hudson river after a freak accident in 2009.
Rather than simply telling the story leading up to the forced water landing, however, the picture
chronicles the tumultuous aftermath of what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I specifically think of the passengers calling their loved ones, finding their fellow passengers alive
after the landing and thanking Sully as moments that made me choke up a little. Another highlight is
the simple reaction shots that Eastwood shows us of businesspeople in the skyscrapers as they see a
plane hurtling toward the city. That was as a simple and understated way to underscore the heroism of
Sully s action by making us visualize the alternative.
With all that being said, the storytelling here wasn t flawless. Sully takes a somewhat unconventional
approach by showing the aftermath of the crash and focusing on the investigation, but for the most
part the film felt safe and predictable. Every plot beat and character action, even the effective ones,
felt generic and familiar, but in a bad way. I m not sure what I would have wanted the filmmakers to
do instead, but they should have done something to switch things up a little.
Nevertheless, Sully is still a very good movie. Hanks is quite good and Eckhart does well in his role.
The story is economical and moving, even if a little too safe. Sully probably isn t going to be most
people s favorite movie of the year, but it has earned a spot on top 10 lists for 2016, even if it s in the

Business Risk
A risky business
Dodie: We are all here now. As you know that Zelal Sulen is our new boss now. After she took up the
official post, she found that Hi Style is out of touch with its target consumers and is losing direction.
As the member of manager consultants, for this point, today we need to think out at least two options
to advise her to improve the situation. Am I understood? And think a while... Okay, let s make a start.
Who want to speak first?
Lily: Well, in my opinion, Hi Style could allocate £10m to new investment in the business. For
example, it could improve distribution and sales through an exclusive agreement with a major retailer,
which could provide a steady marketing channel. Second, to launch new product ranges with major ...

So next, we will discuss which one is best and select the second choice. Let s start with Lily s option.
We called the option Organic Growth. What do you think about it ?
Kelly: I think ,Such investment, to some extent, costs too much. And it will also undergo financial
risks. Besides, the exclusive agreement is a single way, it may get press from the major retailer. In the
mean time, not all brand development consultants can make brand image improved.
Lily: yes, it s true. Every coin has two sides.it can t be denied that option 1 will offer a chance to
heighten its competitive strength. Such investment is obvious in Hi Style s fovor as to optimize its
structure. Employing brand development consultants may also accelerate its brand revolution,
improving its former brand or even building a new better one.
Dodie: It sounds reasonably. So, what about the second option, the acquisition of smartwear?
Ann: Unfortunately, the company is in financial crisis. Last month, Smartwear made deliveries worth
2 million to two new customers in the Far East that have just gone into liquidation and the stock has
disappeared. Worse still, there has been bad press about working condition in overseas factories. The
financial risk is also a big problem.
Serena: But it will offer Hi Style many new opportunities. Firstly, it can help expand business in the
field of work clothes. Moreover, Hi Style can make full use of its good sale agents and strong

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Limited Partnership
MEANING OF A LIMITED PARTNERSHIP There are two types of partnerships one of them being
limited partnership. Limited partnership is a type of partnership in which at the minimum one of the
owners of a business is a limited partner and at least one of the other partners has limited liability, that
is, he/she is a limited partner. Unlike general partners who are involved in every aspect of the business
from making day to day business decisions to being personally responsible for all the debts of the
business, limited partners are just investors in the business venture and therefore have very little to no
influence at all on the everyday operations of the business. Advantages of a Limited Partnership Some
of the advantages of a limited partnership include the following: Tax benefits limited partners get a
share of the profits as well as the losses of the business but an advantage to them is that they do not
have the responsibility of running the operations of the business on a day to day basis like the general
partners. Personal income of all the partners is taxed but a limited partner has lesser liability and
responsibility compared to a general partner. Liability limits the liability of a limited partner for a debt
owed by the partnership is only limited to the level of the partner s investment in the business. No
turnover issues a partnership will remain intact and in operation even if a limited partner decides to
leave or is replaced by another partner. There is

Essay On Native American Equality
The matter of equality has always been a hot topic in every avenue of news, in every new stand and
now on every web browser. Some of the earliest stands for equality were rioting in the streets of
London for women s suffrage, and human, rights. Even the pilgrims had to stiff the upper lip and
break away to the New World for religious freedom. No matter the time, equality for one, always
means oppression for another, until the underdog stands and fights. In a recent dispute over the
ownership of Native American remains found in La Jolla, California, a team of scientists strove to
gain custody over the remains in hopes of unearthing a more specific map of how the first Americans
arrived in the North American Continent. However, the Kumeyaay Tribe claimed custody under the
authority of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 1990 allowing Native
American tribes to claim their history on private or public lands. The scientists did not give, and
appealed to the Supreme Court, but were refused. Now, with a change in the tide, the power rests in
the hands of the once overlooked Kumeyaay Tribe who assert, We ... Show more content on

people, who early Americans relied on, were not only persecuted, forced on reservations, but also
deemed merciless savages. The foundation of the United States was structured to be all inclusive for
those who built it, making them equal and others pushed into shadow. The white settlers gained their
freedom by turning the tides on Britain and now the Native Americans are, subtly, turning those tides
again, in search of their own equality in

Children Should Start At An Early Age

Babies are born every day creating a constant demand for advice about every aspects of childcare and

a child is complicated.
Being a parent is one of the most challenging task but very rewarding experience in life. I can say this
because I m a parent myself. I know what it takes to be a mother of 3 kid s ages: 7, 4 and 3 years old.

In cases like these, people around us would judge us right away that we are not good parents and we
do not discipline our child.
How Can I Help My Child Learn Good Behaviour? There are lot of ways how to help our kids learn
good behaviour. All we need is to understand and consider them, that they are not perfect and often
makes mistakes just like we do. Here are some suggestions:
Offer Praise and Affection Regularly. For example, my son, Andrew who is two years old at that time
had drawn a squiggly lines and web like scribbles on our white wall. After coming home exhausted
from work, he met me at the door and very proud and happy to show his drawing. Instead of being
mad, I composed myself and said, Oh that is very nice, it is like a spider web, but next time draw or
write it in a paper as I had literally gave a paper and crayons to him.
Plan Transition. Doing one activity to the next makes child anxious, we need to talk to our child so
they knew what to expect. Give our child advance warning when transitioning into another activity.
Example) Two or more minutes playing with the blocks or dolls, then its time to clean up . In this way,
they prepare themselves for the change of routine and move on to another activity.
Avoid stressful situations. Common triggers may include hunger and sleepiness, and quick change of
venues. So, plan in advance and anticipate our child schedules. Don t take our child shopping and do
four some

Advantages And Disadvantages
A.C 1.1 Discuss the benefits and constraints of different networking systems, types and topologies.
Analyse and clearly identify the requirements of the system for this network in order to convince the
management of the given case study company.
There are many types of networks here are a few examples of them; WAN, LAN, MAN PAN.
WAN (Wide Area Network) is a network which maybe computer or telecommunications network that
extends in a large geographical distance, it interconnects a multiple of (LANs) Local Area Networks.
The Advantages of a WAN are;
WANs allow a great and more intricate network also can cover a near infinite geographical distance.
WANs mainly occur in large environments, Connections are available from country to country,
building to building etc. in other words the internet. The typical large size of a WAN is what separates
it from a LAN, WANs are generally slower than LANs, the further the distance the slower the
network.
One of the biggest Disadvantages of WAN is the cost that it can come with, having a private WAN is
often expensive. One of the main reason WANs are expensive is because of the technology used to
expand on massive scales. Speaking on large scale, the larger the network the less speed which causes
latency (Works, 2017).
Here is a diagram of a wide area network:
Figure 1: wide area network (NetPrivateer, 2013)
LAN (Local Area Network) is a computer network that interconnects clients(computers) in limited

  • 2. Dorigen s Pledge With Aurelius Dorigen s Pledge With Aurelius has Trapped her In a World of Pain I will be looking at the Franklin s tale, lines 1359 66 and 1479 86. In the first passage Dorigen is torn between sleeping with Aurelius an act of infidelity, and kill herself to keep from staining her body. Her conflict is due to her having given her word to both Aurelius and Arviragus (foolishly and willingly). In the second passage, Arviragus tells his wife to keep her promise with Aurelius and then threatens to kill her if she tells anyone about the act she will be committing. It is the third promise that puts her in the tension about not knowing what to do. I will focus on the constraints and friction Dorigen faces with her third pledge that leads to tension between her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She told Aurelius that if he removed the rocks from the ocean to save Arviragus she would sleep with him. She has given her word to Aurelius freely, thinking this was the only way to save her husband; instead of rescuing him, though she creates a distance between them a tainted marriage. Not only does Dorigen drag her husband into her unfaithful pledge, but she puts herself in a position of instability and indecisiveness. As Dorigen states, I levere and my body, she reiterates her uncertainly on her pledge with Aurelius and how she has to choose to sacrifice her body or her marriage (1360 61). Dorigen does not have a clue about what step to take. She recapitulates how this tension is cluttered with unending confusion and indecisiveness about what actions to take, the pledge she made and her life, which ties back to her husband, who is part of her life. She is in constant conflict with herself as she repeats herself in her words stating, myselven...my name...my deeth (1362 63). Dorigen s repetition of my increases the tension among herself as she continues her own conversation of what to do with herself and weighing all results. She swings back and forth unsteadily, with no good place to fall back ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Industrial Leaders of the 19th Century Should be Admired for their Work The industrial leaders, Robber Barons, of the 19th century are men who are very respected and admired. Andrew Carnegie was a boy from Scotland who came over to this country with nothing. He continued to save and work his way up in the industry until he had complete control over the steel industry. John D. Rockefeller was also one who came from an ordinary home. When he saw an opportunity, he took it, along with the risks. He came to control the oil industry. He left his fortune to his son, unlike the others he did not donate to many organizations. The only contribution he gave was to support the, now, Vanderbilt College. John D. Rockefeller also started at humble beginnings. By taking risks and investing he found himself engulfed in the rapidly expanding oil industry. Not yet in the business directly he started his own company, The Standard Oil Company of Cleveland. Many Americans blame technology for making goods so plentiful, schooling so accessible, diversion so easy, and liberties so copious (Bauerlein). Those under thirty are not the dumbest generation, in fact, technology is expanding, changing, and pushing in new directions intelligence and mental capacity. Technology has allowed young Americans to transform the way they think and learn. According to a 2008 study by Mizuko Ito, the internet has allowed the flourishing of self directed learning. Music showed the new generation that there was more than just what was traditionally expected from them, that they were their own person and could define the norms for themselves and not depend on what other people say or think about them. • 9. The Illusion that Money Brings Happiness Some would say we are slaves to our primal urges, shackled in our endless pursuit of gratification and shaping our very existence around them. We gravitate towards the things in life that bring us pleasure, and recoil from those that cause us pain. People always show a feeling of wanting everything their way, as to wanting something. Just like everything else there are always limits. In order to obtain these things that people believe will bring them happiness, many go over the line. Many believe that with money they can have anything they desire. Though it may be true to an extent, sometimes the desires eventually turn into greed and people lose some of the most valuable things life has to offer. Focusing on the illusion that money brings happiness may have an unexpected turn later down the road. For instance, when someone reflects on how money would change their sense of well being, they would probably think about spending more time in leisurely pursuits such as traveling abroad. But in reality, they would have to spend a large amount of time working and less time engaged in experienced happiness. Robert H. Frank says in his book Luxury Fever: Money and Happiness in an Era of Excess: Even among those who can easily afford today s luxury offerings, there has been a price to pay. All of us rich and poor alike, but especially the rich are spending more time at the office and taking shorter vacations; we are spending less time with our families and friends; and we have ... Compared with well rested colleagues, officers who met the criteria for a sleep disorder were more likely to make serious administrative or safety errors and exhibit uncontrolled anger toward suspects (Harding, 2011). Sleep problems had a noticeable impact on the officer s work. Eighteen percent of officers who were screened positive for a sleep disorder reported making serious administrative errors, versus 13% of those without a sleep disorder, while 24% made other errors or safety violations attributable to fatigue. • 11. The Apache Creation Story Analysis The Apache Creation Story is a reliving of the creation that takes on a more personal, familial and dialogue based approach to how the world and mankind came to be. The story depicts how the natural environment was created, from the earth itself to the four cardinal points to the clouds, the animals, and the trees. Because of the nature of the Apache s nomadic life, the legend remains generalized in terms of its location. Typically the story is told in order to preserve their tribal history as well as social and instructional purposes. These occasions range from the campfire to rites of passage to simply a parent teaching their child of their historical identity. The legend of creation is central to the spiritual practices and beliefs of the Apache, especially when it comes to their relationship with the natural world. As explained in the first two phrases of the story, animals, elements, the solar system, and natural phenomena are revered by the Apaches. By sharing this story with younger tribe members, the Apache engage them in understanding their traditions. It also teaches them of the morality they must have and pass on when it comes to nature, as Montejo mentions (21). It tells of the role of all living beings on earth and the importance of them all working harmoniously to keep the universe balanced. The legend is split up into a series of small stanzas that describe the actual life conditions. Following the two sentence prelude to the myth, the storyteller introduces ... Nevertheless law enforcement still struggles to hire and retain female officers for a number of reasons. There have been many guidelines put in place, but female officer s still face discrimination that discourage them away or hinder their promotion opportunities. Police departments are under major pressure from the public to hire more female officers. The literature review shows a female officers struggle in gaining success in a male dominated career. Law enforcement has been considered as a man s job and now that women have proven they are capable of the job, police men are not as accepting. Research shows that police men s views on women in the police force are resilient to the fact that women are able to perform all tasks of the job. This paper will discuss what obstacles women have faced in the police role and also provide recommendations to help hire and retain these female officers. Literature Review Sir Robert Peel is known for his achievement in passing the Metropolitan Police Act in 1829, which led to the establishment of the first modern police force. He believed it should be defined as a full time and uniformed officer with a main purpose of patrolling the city. He would only select officers that fit a certain mold, which meant they had to be trained and disciplined. During the creation of this police force, women were not permitted to take part. In the mid 1800 s is when women were first actively employed into the police force. But even then they were given administrative duties or assigned to specialized bureaus, mostly working with juveniles and children. During the great depression there were huge changes on how employment was viewed, because of this women s employment suffered. A married woman with a job was seen as dishonorably taking away employment from a man trying to financially care for his family. (Milton, 1972) By tradition, women were viewed as the caretaker of children and the role of taking care of the house while the man is to be the main source of income. Despite of its importance few works have been carried out to quantify the QoC and ensure the quality of the information on which the decisions and actions of contextaware systems are based. Moreover, many decision support techniques are insufficient to address the runtime uncertainty in the context information as they do not assess the QoC in an end to end fashion. We formulate the related work into two parts: 1) QoC attributes and modeling aspects 2) Runtime decision support addressing uncertainty A. • 29. Business Risk A risky business Dodie: We are all here now. As you know that Zelal Sulen is our new boss now. After she took up the official post, she found that Hi Style is out of touch with its target consumers and is losing direction. As the member of manager consultants, for this point, today we need to think out at least two options to advise her to improve the situation. Am I understood? And think a while... Okay, let s make a start. Who want to speak first? Lily: Well, in my opinion, Hi Style could allocate £10m to new investment in the business. For example, it could improve distribution and sales through an exclusive agreement with a major retailer, which could provide a steady marketing channel. Second, to launch new product ranges with major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So next, we will discuss which one is best and select the second choice. Let s start with Lily s option. We called the option Organic Growth. What do you think about it ? Kelly: I think ,Such investment, to some extent, costs too much. And it will also undergo financial risks. Besides, the exclusive agreement is a single way, it may get press from the major retailer. In the mean time, not all brand development consultants can make brand image improved. Lily: yes, it s true. Every coin has two sides.it can t be denied that option 1 will offer a chance to heighten its competitive strength. Such investment is obvious in Hi Style s fovor as to optimize its structure. Employing brand development consultants may also accelerate its brand revolution, improving its former brand or even building a new better one. Dodie: It sounds reasonably. So, what about the second option, the acquisition of smartwear? Ann: Unfortunately, the company is in financial crisis. Last month, Smartwear made deliveries worth 2 million to two new customers in the Far East that have just gone into liquidation and the stock has disappeared. Worse still, there has been bad press about working condition in overseas factories. The financial risk is also a big problem. Serena: But it will offer Hi Style many new opportunities. Firstly, it can help expand business in the field of work clothes. Moreover, Hi Style can make full use of its good sale agents and strong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Essay On Native American Equality The matter of equality has always been a hot topic in every avenue of news, in every new stand and now on every web browser. Some of the earliest stands for equality were rioting in the streets of London for women s suffrage, and human, rights. Even the pilgrims had to stiff the upper lip and break away to the New World for religious freedom. No matter the time, equality for one, always means oppression for another, until the underdog stands and fights. In a recent dispute over the ownership of Native American remains found in La Jolla, California, a team of scientists strove to gain custody over the remains in hopes of unearthing a more specific map of how the first Americans arrived in the North American Continent. However, the Kumeyaay Tribe claimed custody under the authority of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 1990 allowing Native American tribes to claim their history on private or public lands. The scientists did not give, and appealed to the Supreme Court, but were refused. Now, with a change in the tide, the power rests in the hands of the once overlooked Kumeyaay Tribe who assert, We ... Unbeknownst to most, the American Constitution was a reflection of The Iroquois Constitution, their symbol of an eagle clutching five arrows is even depicted on our currency, a document bonding many tribal groups in peace and assuring rights to all, even women, who held important roles. Yet, these people, who early Americans relied on, were not only persecuted, forced on reservations, but also deemed merciless savages. The foundation of the United States was structured to be all inclusive for those who built it, making them equal and others pushed into shadow. The white settlers gained their freedom by turning the tides on Britain and now the Native Americans are, subtly, turning those tides again, in search of their own equality in ... There are lot of ways how to help our kids learn good behaviour. All we need is to understand and consider them, that they are not perfect and often makes mistakes just like we do. Here are some suggestions: Offer Praise and Affection Regularly. For example, my son, Andrew who is two years old at that time had drawn a squiggly lines and web like scribbles on our white wall. After coming home exhausted from work, he met me at the door and very proud and happy to show his drawing. Instead of being mad, I composed myself and said, Oh that is very nice, it is like a spider web, but next time draw or write it in a paper as I had literally gave a paper and crayons to him. • 34. Advantages And Disadvantages A.C 1.1 Discuss the benefits and constraints of different networking systems, types and topologies. Analyse and clearly identify the requirements of the system for this network in order to convince the management of the given case study company. There are many types of networks here are a few examples of them; WAN, LAN, MAN PAN. WAN (Wide Area Network) is a network which maybe computer or telecommunications network that extends in a large geographical distance, it interconnects a multiple of (LANs) Local Area Networks. The Advantages of a WAN are; WANs allow a great and more intricate network also can cover a near infinite geographical distance. WANs mainly occur in large environments, Connections are available from country to country, building to building etc. in other words the internet. The typical large size of a WAN is what separates it from a LAN, WANs are generally slower than LANs, the further the distance the slower the network. One of the biggest Disadvantages of WAN is the cost that it can come with, having a private WAN is often expensive. One of the main reason WANs are expensive is because of the technology used to expand on massive scales. Speaking on large scale, the larger the network the less speed which causes latency (Works, 2017). Here is a diagram of a wide area network: Figure 1: wide area network (NetPrivateer, 2013) LAN (Local Area Network) is a computer network that interconnects clients(computers) in limited space i.e. a ...
