The assassination of President Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theatre changed the course of Reconstruction in the US after the Civil War. Had Lincoln lived, he likely would have pursued a more moderate reconstruction that focused on reunifying the country. However, Lincoln's death left Andrew Johnson as president, who had less control over the radical Republicans in Congress. This led Congress to impose harsher reconstruction policies to punish the South. The assassination thus had long-lasting impacts by altering the approach to reconstructing the former Confederate states.

Five Paragraph Essay Sample In Sixth Grade LiSuzanne Simmons
Ordinary Germans played a role as bystanders during the Holocaust by not protesting as Jews were murdered. Many took small jobs that contributed to the Nazi's genocidal operations, like engineering and railway work. Propaganda manipulated Germans into believing Jews were responsible for economic and social problems, leading many to support expelling Jews. While some may not have intended to aid the Holocaust directly, their work still supported it. Strategic Nazi propaganda likely influenced why some participated or ignored the genocide. A lack of widespread resistance allowed the Holocaust to proceed.

Suburbia: America s Self Made Frontier
Thomas Jefferson, America s third president, dreamed of a nation of small farmers living off the land
and believed large cities to be destructive to the morals, the health, and the liberties of man. However,
as the nation grew into the most powerful in the world, its cities followed suit. They became the
social, economic, and political centers of their respective areas. Cities such as Boston, New York, and
San Francisco became the industrial and marketing strongholds of the country. However, by the 1950s,
the American landscape was transformed yet again with the arrival of the new frontier, Suburbia.

Many historians believe that Suburbia promoted discrimination as southern blacks migrated north
during the Second World War and pushed white families to the suburbs. De facto segregation was
practiced in cities through both violent and nonviolent methods. African Americans that moved into
predominantly Caucasian, suburban neighborhoods faced violence. For example, death threats,
vandalism, and physical assaults were employed to stop the integration of communities. Along with
the encouragement of discrimination, suburban living also endorsed a plain and ordinary landscape.

My Life as a Legal Hustler That moment when you realize your mother will not give you any money,
so you have to find another way to make some. A lot of you may have been in that situation, just as I
was in the sixth grade. My mother got tired of me asking her for money as if it grew on trees. She told
me that I either had to wait until Christmas or my birthday. I could not wait that long, so I set out to
make some money on my own.
My mother s friend, Casime, took me to school January 12, 2009. On the ride there, he told me about
how he use to hustle candy at school, I was all ears when it came to listening to his story. The next
day, he surprised me with a fourteen dollar box of candy, a mixed Skittles and Starburst thirty piece
pack. He told me to distribute each pack of candy for one dollar each so that I would come out with a
sixteen dollar profit. That day was challenging, especially since I did not have any customer service
skills and did not know anybody in that school.
The first day of selling candy was not what I expected it to be, I only sold two packs of Starburst and
four packs of Skittles. My products were not selling because nobody knew that I was selling candy.
The next day I decided not to sell any products, instead I used that day to advertise. I told everyone

Thermo catalytic Degradation of Waste Polythene into lubricants using Zeolite
Mr. Amol Vagad Department of Instrumentation Engineering,
MCT s Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology,
Mumbai, India amolvagad@gmail.com ABSTRACT: Waste polythene primarily in the form of used
polythene bags, comprises of most of the plastic pollution caused in India. Many processes have been
developed to combat this issue which includes pyrolysis and catalytic cracking. This paper states an
experiment that was carried out using catalytic cracking using Zeolite (ZSM 5). The catalyst in
presence of heat helped to break down the polymer molecules. The experiment gave a product which
consisted of 80% grease. The obtained product can be used for various industrial and domestic
applications where lubrication is required. The recyclable nature of the catalyst makes this process
efficient, affordable as well as environment friendly.
KEYWORDS: polythene, pyrolysis, catalytic cracking, Zeolite, grease.
I.INTRODUCTION
Pollution due to waste plastic has been a very largeissue in countries like India and China in the Asian

5. The Little Mermaid Feminist Criticism
Hans Christian Andersen s story, The Little Mermaid talks about a girl who saves a young man from
drowning and falls in love with him, and she later learns that the young man she saved was a prince.
In this world women believe that they are not capable of doing nothing or being nothing without a
man in their lives. Disney s film, The Little Mermaid , by Ron Clements and John Musker, present a
version that makes an appearance for children, so it is harder to catch on where a woman needs a man
in her life whether it is her father or a husband. In the Disney film the director makes the mermaid
(Ariel) look so vulnerable and weak for a young woman. Women now these days say that they were
made to believe that they have to depend on a man because they will not make it without them. In the
story the author made it seem like all women cannot do want they want or that they are limited to do
and say certain things because they are women. Women grow up to believe and to think that they need
a man because that is how many men and society made women and young girls look like. So, part of
this faulting it the men because they beliefs are that women cannot do what they do or that women and
young girls belong at home to behave right and look pretty for the men. Andersen is a good example
of Feminist and Gender criticism because women should believe that they can make it without having
to rely on a man. Women should start believing that they are as equal as a man whether it s at a job,
relationship, at home, and in society because we are not meant to be looked at as a fragile and weak
woman, we are supposed to show everyone that women should be equal to men on all types of levels.
Andersen examines representation of gender, dependence, and cultural stability to explore notions of
equality in gender. Andersen examines representation of gender because both men and women need to
be looked upon as equals with one another. For example, there are many times when a women needs
help and most men think that she is a damsel in distress , because a woman that needs saving looks
fragile and needs a man to save her. This also shows that usually the women are the ones being saved,
so that the men can be the ones doing

6. Prison Gangs Essay
There are many different types of gangs around the world. Some gangs consist of Skinheads, Asians,
Latinos, African American and Caucasians. But there are some gangs that are mixed with different
ethnics.
Prison gangs are criminal associations that started inside the punitive framework and they have kept
on operating inside remedial offices all through the United States. Prison gangs are likewise managing
toward one criminal element that can precede with their operations outside the restrictions the
reformatory framework. Commonly, a prison gang comprises of a select gathering on detainees who
have a sorted out progressive system and who are represented by a secured set of principles. Gangs
fluctuate in both association and organization from very organized groups. Prison gangs keep on
carrying out criminal movement, enroll new parts in urban, suburban, and provincial areas over the
United States, and create criminal affiliations that extend their impact over criminal undertakings,
especially road level drug deals. The most eminent patterns for 2011 have been the general increment
in gang enrollment, and the extension of criminal street gangs control of road level drug deals and
coordinated effort with adversary groups and other criminal associations.
An alternate impact of prison gangs is a feeling of fitting in with a family unit. Prisoners get a feeling
of character and distinguish from being in a gang. It separates them from their companions and

8. Chinese Culture Of Hong Kong
From the historical aspect, the society of Hong Kong inherited characteristic from the British colonial
era but still the influence of China is heavy. Hong Kong has a closely connection with mainland China
due to geographical proximity and 95% Chinese immigrants with of its population help to maintain
the identity among Chinese in Hong Kong, despite they tend to blend of both oriental and Western
elements(Tsu, 2014).
Although the British colonial government in Hong Kong did not have any intention to fade Chinese
identity, the colonial education system did not cover much about contemporary China(Luk, 1991) .
Due to the gap in ideological and material conditions between Hong Kong and mainland China, the
perception on identity and issues of nationalism/patriotism between many Hong Kong s Chinese
people and the Chinese government are different (Tsu, 2014).
Conflict in Social system
Apart from that, a far more mature and sophisticated social system create Hong Kong s civil society,
therefore when related to ideological conflict with real damage, Hong Kong performance its
significant difference between the mainland China and therefore its opposition and response to the
social unrest after Hong Kong 1967 Left wing riots (Ye, 2015).

Last month, Harvey Weinstein, an extremely successful Hollywood producer, was accused of sexual
harassment and assault by many women. Following the occurrence, other highly respected men,
particularly those involved in the movie industry, have also been accused of similar offences. There
has been a snowball effect of allegations as more recent incidents have been mentioned that encourage
victims of earlier incidents to come forward. These accusations, previously hidden and ignored, are

against the issue of sexual offences, and feminist politics in rape response. To understand social

By providing care and assistance to victims of sexual assault, rape crisis centres are effective and
lasting products of second wave feminism (Corrigan 2014). Although rape crisis centres are
institutions created by feminist politics, workers refuse to use the term feminist as a label for their
services (Corrigan 2014). According to Corrigan (2014), the label rejection is a useful tactic in
keeping the feminist movement alive in politic; the label rejection keeps feminism versatile. Although
rape crisis centres have been successful, the institutions continue to face obstacles as a result of being
politically marginalized. Relating back to Simmel and Wolff (1950) and social network analysis,
strong ties are meaningful ties where relationships between individuals and groups can benefit.

foreigners as the land of opportunity. There are so many ethnic groups that exist in the United States
that it has become known as the melting pot of the world. The Puerto Rican s migration to the United

The Puerto Ricans were thought of as dirty and lost jobs to the Japanese that immigrated there because
there were considered better workers and cleaner.
During the time period of 1898 to 1917 the Puerto Ricans that were living in the United States were
considered to be citizens of nowhere. In 1901 there was a Supreme Court decision that stated Puerto
Ricans: belongs to, but is not part of America . The Americans felt as though they could just claim this
land to be their own but not claim full responsibility for it. Puerto Rico at the time was inhabited by
only about one million people. By the year 1917 Congress passed an act that made
Puerto Ricans citizens . Even though this act stated that Puerto Ricans were citizens of the US the
Puerto Ricans still did not have a place that they could truly call home from a legal standpoint. But
because this law was made it formed a relationship between the mainland and the island, which led to
the industrialization of Puerto Rico and eventually the mass migration to the States.

Financial Plan Development
Time Out is the title of this student s proposed program for the course project. Time Out will provide
prevention and solution based services to the targeted population, African American high school

with a two year financial plan for the proposed program using step VII: Develop the Financial
Management Plan, of Calley s Comprehensive Program Development model as a guide (2011).
Developing a financial plan requires an understanding of the program s projected expenditures and
revenues, which leads to program sustainability through financial management (2011). The plan will
include projected expenditures such as staff salaries, benefits, liability insurance, office space,
supplies, and equipment, and transportations. Then the paper will present the organization s projected
funding sources, monitoring and reporting processes, and ethical considerations.
Two Year Projected Expenditures
Using information from the program design the student was able to project expenditures to implement
the proposed program (Calley, 2011). The projected expenditures are staffing, administration,
insurance (health and liability), and operating expenses such as office rental, supplies, and utilities. Of
all the projected expenditures, staffing will account for the largest expense for the program need
(2011). To project staffing expenses for the proposed program

12. Factors That Affect Water Loss Rates Essay
Desiccation
It is essential for amphibians to maintain a water balance during terrestrial migratory and dispersal
movements (Spotilia Berman 1976). If amphibians become dehydrated, their oxygen consumption and
metabolic state becomes at risk (Pough et al. 1983). As with movement rates, water loss rates are
species specific. The northern leopard frog has a higher loss rate than the marine toad due to the
northern leopard frog s higher diffusion rate of water through their permeably skin (Bentley Yorio
1976). Also, toads typically live a more terrestrial life than most frogs and therefore have developed
mechanisms to reduce water losses. Land cover type and associated micro environments play a big
role in the water losses as amphibians move through terrestrial landscapes. Vegetation can influence
soil moisture, humidity, shading, wind speeds, litter cover and other factors that influence water loss
rates at the micro environment scale.
Amphibians have developed both behavioral and physiological means of reducing water losses in
terrestrial environments. When anurans need moisture they will go into a water conserving position
where they crouch down to the ground so their stomach and feet are in contact with a moist area
(Pough et al 1983). A common method for anurans to conserve water and stay out of the hot sun is to
burrow under leaf litter (Dole 1965). Burrowing under layers of vegetation helps avoid direct sun, heat
and wind exposure. However, litter is often absent or

society. This is an important theme to me since I am starting as a first generation college freshman at
Saint Mary s. So coming into this new school I will have to learn how to fit in with the society of the

the Mexican tradition of women needing to find husbands and become housewives. Cisneros does not
follow this tradition and gets her education, but her family does not approve. Even though Cisneros is

She had difficulty fitting in because her family did not see her as equal. When Cisneros graduated

says I wasted all that education (Cisneros 13). Her father did not value her successful college

of success as her brother but her father views it as a waste of time because she is a woman. Due to this

In The Beginning
The first instance of colonialism forced upon the inhabitants of the Dominican Republic was the
discovery by Christopher Columbus on October 12, 1492. Ernesto Sagas and Orlando Inoa presented
the interaction in their book The Dominican People: A Documentary History. The confrontation
between these two diametrically opposed cultures proved to be far from equal; the Amerindians Stone
Age culture was no match for European military technology. The initial encounter took place on the
Caribbean island of Hispaniola, part of which is now the Dominican Republic (Inoa pg. 1). This was

remaining an untouched Eden; rather, one can only chronicle the repercussions of this fated event.
Independence, Part 1
In 1821 the Dominicans rebelled against their Spanish colonizers, and succeeded in declaring
independence. However, it was only nine weeks before the country was again forced to submit to the
rule of another sovereign nation, Haiti. As Jan Lundius and Mats Lundahl stated in their book Peasants
and Religion: A socioeconomic study of Dios Olivorio and the Palma Sola Movement in the
Dominican Republic: In February 1822, the Haitian president, Jean Pierre Boyer; gained control of the
entire island of Hispaniola without resistance, at the head of a 12,000 man invading army. The
Haitians were to stay until 1844, when the Spanish speaking population which had revolted the year
before proclaimed the free and independent Dominican Republic (Lundahl pg. 425). This was a very
radical occupation, where Boyer attempted to reshape the Dominican Republic to how he thought it
should be. One of his largest projects, was the confiscation of church and immigrant lands, and
subsequently its redistribution. This, coupled with the destruction of large plantations, created a
peasant class for the first time in the Dominican Republic.

Imagine being lost in New York City. Where would you go? My first instinct would be to hail a taxi or

would you do? I don t know what I would do. You can t take public transportation without money, but

many people are unable to afford public transportation, that they are just not able to get around, and

people who can t afford a train ticket would now be able to get around. Moreover, despite the obvious
benefits, there would be no more crazy city car traffic. This would help to conserve the environment,
and to create a safer and healthier environment. Therefore, public transportation should in fact be
made free in the United States.
Issues regarding public transportation have been an ongoing debate since the 1950s. In the 1950s,
African Americans were discriminated against; They were not able to to ride in the front of the bus
and had to give up their seat for a white person. For example, Rosa Parks sparked much debate and
controversy when she refused to give her seat up for a white person. This led to the Montgomery Bus
Boycott, when blacks refused to ride public busses at all. Now, Social Justice advocate, Tyler Falk

16. Railroad Safety
After reading the information, and watching the videos on keeping us safe, and protecting us from
accidents, I realized that railroad crossing is a serious thing, and we need to be careful when we are
crossing the tracks. I have realized that it comes down to being smart, careful, and using common
sense. When red lights are blinking, you should stop, and be extremely cautious. LIke it said in one of
the videos, it is not worth it to risk anything. If we are all just a little smarter when we are around
railroad crossings, and we use our heads we should all be fine. I think another key to being safe is
keeping the distractions in our pockets. If we are on our phone we are much less likely to pay attention
to our surroundings, and what is going ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Something that I didn t realize was that when you walk on tracks for train you are actually trespassing.
Not only are you incredibly unsafe, you are actually breaking a law, and there could be serious
consequences for doing that. Not only are the tracks dangerous, but not being smart on platform, and
around the cars. Around the train cars is not a place to mess around. It is dangerous, and you should
follow all of the rules that are posted. They aren t posted to make our lives harder, they are posted to
help us out, keep us safe, and make sure that no one gets hurt. I think that if we all just follow the rules
that are posted, we use common sense, put our phones away, and are cautious, we can help each other
out, and be safe in these situations. That is what I got out of the sources that I read, and listen to. In the

17. Ethical Dilemmas And The Ethical Dilemma
Ethical dilemmas occur when there is a disagreement about a situation and all parties involved
question how they should behave based on their individual ethical morals. (Newman Pollnitz, 2005).
The dilemma that I will be addressing in this essay involves Michael, recently employed male
educator working in the nursery, and parents of a baby enrolled at the centre. The parents have raised
concerns about male educators changing their child s nappy as they have cultural practices that do not
allow this practice to take place. This situation is classed as an ethical dilemma as there is a dispute
between cultural beliefs and legal requirements within the workplace. There are four parties involved
(parents, child, educator and director), all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will allow the parents and child to feel a sense of belonging in the child care centre. Element 6.1,
quality area 6 of the National Quality Standards (NQS) outlines the importance of relationships in
regard to the parents, their child/children and educators. (Australian Children s Education Care
Quality Authority [ACECQA], n.d.). Michael has considered the families cultural beliefs and has
decided to remain respectful of their request, but is concerned about his rights concerning gender
discrimination (Australian Human Rights Commission, n.d.). Michael has a right to retain his position
in the nursery room regardless of the issue with nappy changes for this one child. To allow for
minimal disruption and any further consequences, the situation is to be kept confidential. This is a
short term resolution. The situation should be monitored and there may be long term issues if the
parents fail to form a relationship with Michael. Therefore, this may result in Michael requesting a
change of room in the future (Ethical group discussion, 2017). The resolution was reached through
exploring the steps involved in the ERC. As a group, (each group member representing a person in the
dilemma) we examined eight steps in the ERC. Throughout each phase, the child s primary best
interests were considered by all parties. As the director progressed through the ERC, it became clear
that both the parents and Michael have legal rights that need to be addressed.

18. The Eye Motif In The Tell Tale Heart And The Raven By...
On January 19, 1809, Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston, Massachusetts. In spite of experiencing
several tragedies throughout his life, Poe had a successful career by writing short anecdotes. Most of
Edgar Allan Poe s stories have been known for having recurring literary devices such as motifs. The
motifs of the eye and heart are found in the story The Tell Tale Heart and The Pit and the Pendulum.
However, in the Tell Tale Heart and the Raven, the motif that is commonly used is the unnamed
narrator. The reason for Poe using these motifs remains unknown at first glance but, once analyzing
these motifs, one can identify their purpose. To begin, the eye motif is used in The Tell Tale Heart. The
old man in the story, has cataract on his left ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The plot of the story revolves around the motif of the eye and it also gives justification for the narrator
to kill the old man. Similarly, in The Pit and the Pendulum, the eye motif is utilized as the driving
force of the plot and affects the reader. The narrator of the story is captured by an inquisitorial group
and is tortured. In the story, I (the narrator) had scarcely stepped away from the bed of horror when the
hellish machine stopped. I saw it being pulled up through the ceiling by some invisible force (Poe
145). Once the narrator narrowly escapes from the brutal slaying, immediately, the pendulum stops
moving. Starting and stopping the pendulum was done by inquisitors who serve as eyes for the cult
leader. Again, the plot action of this story is dependent on the eye motif. When the narrator escapes
from the binding, new problems arise for the narrator because the people who were watching him (the
eyes) immediately executed their next backup plan. According to the text, after the pendulum stopped,
I (The narrator) shrank from the glowing metal to the center of the cell. I thought of the fiery
destruction that was near (Poe 156). The narrator needs to escape from the constant back up methods
of torture implemented by the tormentors. Back to back tortures caused by the inquisitors drive the
story forward. In addition, this constant escape also affects the reader as well. The eye (inquisitors) is
the reason for deploying

Tallerman Co Pty Ltd v Nathan s Merchandise (Vic) Pty Ltd (1957) 98 CLR 93 PART I Summary of
Facts The dispute occurred in Victoria between a registered company, Tallerman Co Pty Ltd ( the
plaintiff ) and an incorporated company, Nathan s Merchandise Pty Ltd. ( the defendant), where both
parties operated their business. Two previous binding contracts (orders No. 58 and No. M57) were
made in communications on 14th May 1951 and 2nd August 1951 respectively, each for the sale by
the plaintiff to the defendant of 1,000,000 Hungarian .22 bullets. A consignment of 1,800,000 bullets

Kitto J. verified that whether or not an existing contract is considered to have been rescinded, depends
on the intention of the parties involved. When examining the two critical correspondences of 21st
March 1952/ June 4th 1952, it was held that no intention by the defendant to discharge the previous
1951 contracts was found; the letters of offer and acceptance did not constitute a new and substituted
contract, and hence all conditions of the earlier contracts were to be binding. Assuming that the
contracts is of variation, the final substantial issue to be anlaysed was whether the Plaintiff s
acceptance of the original contracts was effective for the Defendant to be in breach of its terms.
Decision The appeal failed. As the plaintiff voluntarily confined itself to the two correspondences and
thus chose not to sue in Victoria, these two letters, under New South Wales law, did not amount to a
new contract, and the plaintiff was not protected by the offer and acceptance rule. The majority
embraced the view that the result was tried on a conventional basis and would have been judged
differently if the Plaintiff had not demanded the case to be determined in Sydney. PART III

The 1960 s in the United States
To some people the 1960s were the best of times, to others it was a period where many things went
wrong in society. Why do people have such different ideas about the 1960s?
Many people who lived through the 60s decade feel it was revolutionary; a swinging period after years
of austerity and gloom with the young people commanding the army of change.
This view however, has been challenged. Some think that the 60s have a misguided view. Instead of
the sixties transforming life for the better, it actually made life worse.
For young people during the sixties, life had freedom and freedom had opportunities. Education
became more efficient and opportunistic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whilst there were big achievements nationally and internationally like England winning the world cup
and man landing on the moon, there were also damaging political events. The building of the Berlin
wall officially began a cold war between superpowers, which left the world with anticipation of not
knowing what was going to happen. The Cuban Missile Crisis threatened nuclear war. In America,
there was the assassination of President Kennedy and the Vietnam War. Both were destructive and sad
events. Locally in England, there was the profumo affair where a British politician had an affair with a
Russian who was considered an enemy because of the cold war. This struck chaos into political values
in England.
During the sixties, there were many changes to the legal system in England. The death penalty became
abolished. Many people thought this would encourage crime and make the legal system look weak.
This was a debated decision as was the legalisation of abortion. Some thought and still think that
abortion is killing a living creature and therefore, it is murder. Others believe abortion should be
allowed to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Even nowadays, both decisions are countered.
In the 1960s, Homosexuality was legalised. As the numbers of homosexuals increased, this decision

What is improvisation and how can it be used to create drama/theatre?

Improvisation is a foundational style which is used to create ensembles, it is the art of being in a
scene/s with no preparation. Improvisation is used to Refine theatrical pieces, create ensemble, and
extend our own creativity. It forces us react imaginatively and immediately. Improvisation is used
effectively in the examples of Augusto Boal and his Theatre of the oppressed , the French company
Theatre Du Soliel and an example from my own experience in class.

Using improvisation encourages play and spontaneous exchange of ideas/ process. It can be referred to
as an extension of child s play as it stimulates offspring of child s play and it forces us to react
imaginatively to offers; like a child might do in the playground. As a class, we have explored this idea
in a game we play called Space Jump , there are many alterations to the game but the general idea is
this; one student starts miming an everyday activity and is told to freeze. A second player then
volunteers to build another scene based on the frozen position of the first player. The original space
jump then gets played backwards. This game helps us as actors develop necessary improvisation skills
such as being able to accept offers, react to others and create ensemble. Games such as these, and
improvisation in general allows you to explore your physicality and abilities to present different
characters on the spot.
To conclude, improvisation can be used to creates ensemble, explore an individuals expressive
abilities, polish Individual or group performance, and to generate ideas. In the creation of theatre,
improvisation allows you to explore different personas/ life styles, and gives you the opportunity to
see the world through another person s eyes. Through the examples of Theatre Du Soliel, Boal and my

after his wife s passing. Therefore, he was determined to go to the Underground world or also called
the world of death, and try to convince the ruler of Hades (ruler of the dead) to bring his wife,
Eurydice, back to life. With Orpheus is a mortal amongst the great gods who inherit musical talent, he

Orpheus tried to go back to the second world, but they refused to let him entrance again because he

outdoors (billboards, bus shelter...) and cinema. These are known as above the line advertising.
According to me, direct response[1](without the use of the internet off course) could be included in
the above definition as it utilises some of the components of mass media.
The primary reason why a company should combine online and offline advertising is because of the
general advantages these two methods provide. Online advertising enables to one to target an audience
with accuracy, and enables efficient focus on specific segments. With this method, a company can
track how the different users interact with a brand and in what they are interested. The different ads on
the web can be quickly delivered and are really flexible with few additional costs and is easily

In Puritan times, shaming stayed within the boundaries of the town, but today the borders have

social, professional, and personal life.
First off public shaming negatively affects a person s life socially. In The Scarlet Letter everybody
now sees Hester differently and judges her because she committed adultery. This person has brought

Hockey is a fast paced sport with little time to react or prepare for a hit correctly. The knowledge of
knowing how to take a hit is just as important on how to distribute a hit. Both can cause significant
harm to both players if not done right. The biggest rule to follow when you are about to get hit is to
have a low base. This means to have your knees bent at about ninety or so degrees and to put most of
your weight on the ball of your foot. This way your center of gravity is lower and you have more

raccoons can grow as large as 60 pounds as has been reported in some areas such as Washington,

food, and habitat location. Furthermore, because their hind legs are longer than the front legs,
raccoons tend to have hunched appearance when they walk or run. According to nature magazine
raccoons are very tactile animals, the five toes on their front paws are extremely dexterous, essentially
functioning as five little fingers which allow it to grasp and then manipulate food and a variety of
other objects; hence, it is not surprising to see a raccoon picking up grapes and berries very much like

which is essential to the lives of the organisms in the water. It causes a dead zone, an area where it is

34. Flexible Budget Research
Introduction
A budget is considered as a standard to facilitate control work activities of the organization. Budgets
are planning tools prepared firstly to start the period being budgeted. Valuable information about the
performance contains of the difference between the actual results and the planning budgets. Therefore,
budgets are both planning tools and performance evaluation.
The most common important element in budget is some measure of anticipated output such as the
number of units to be produce, the number of units to be sold, the cost of good sold_direct material,
direct labor, overhead cost,.. need in production, selling and administrative expenses,....

3. Determine the actual volume of output achieved. 4. Before a flexible budget can be produced,
managers must identify fixed costs and variable costs. Fixed costs are costs which will not increase or
decrease over a given range of activity. Variable costs are costs which will increase or decrease over a
given range of activity.
Management have identified that the following budgeted costs are fixed:
Direct labor = $8,400
Overheads = $53,000
Identifying the expected variable cost per unit produced and sold:

Now that managers are aware of the fixed costs and the variable costs per unit it is possible to flex the
original budget to produce a budget cost allowance for 1,000 units produced and sold. For the costs
which are wholly fixed or wholly variable the calculation of the budget cost allowance is fairly
straightforward. The remaining costs are semi variable, which means that they are partly fixed and
partly variable. Setting the flexible budget:

35. Research Paper On The Moonstone
The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins does not follow a traditional marriage driven plot. Although The
Moonstone s plot is not centered on marriage, it becomes essential to the story.
Introduce the characters and the aim of the essay
Without Franklin s drive to get Rachel back, the matter of the stolen moonstone would have been put
to rest. This shows that even though The Moonstone is a mystery novel, marriage plays an essential
role in enhancing the plot. The novel looks at various couples and though it ends with the marriage of
Franklin and Rachel, it does not suggest that all marriages end happily. Collins is known for
developing his ideas about marriage in his writing, including novels such as The Moonstone, The
Woman in White, and many other works. There are things within The Moonstone that both contradict
and support Collins ideas and views on marriage. Collins used his novels as a platform to express his
feeling towards Victorian marriage laws, unmarried woman, and ideas on marriage as a whole.
Marriage plays a crucial role in Wilkie Collins The Moonstone. Collins quickly introduces the idea of
romance and marriage in his novel with Rosanna Spearman. Rosanna s love for Franklin Blake in the
beginning of the story introduces Collins unconventional beliefs. Collins uses Rosanna to highlight the

36. The Discovery Of The Corona Project Essay
The Corona project was developed from the 1946 Operation Crossroads where the US government
was conducting and underwater testing in the bikini islands. The US government was interested in
studying the effects of an underwater nuclear explosion on a naval fleet so they took decommissioned
Navy ships and set them up above the area of the explosion. To observe the test the US sent a large
amount of RB 29 airplanes above the test site laden with cameras and photographic reconnaissance
experts to operate them. The effects of the explosion were so devastating that the naval ships were
tossed around like they were made of paper. Walter Levison like many others that observed this
experiment were WWII veterans and were so appalled by the destruction of the bomb that they wanted
the US government to start focusing on how to prevent war rather than creating more nuclear weapons
At this time in history the threat of a third world war was foremost on everyone s mind as the cold war
between the Soviet Union and the US was heating up. There was a real fear at this time that the soviet
union was developing nuclear weapons for a surprise attack on Europe and the US. The actual strength
and numbers of the soviet army was a secret and the US government wanted to know the size and
strength of their forces. Traditional methods of on ground spying in the 1940 s did little to shed any
light and airplanes of the day did not have the technology to stay out for extended periods of time to

37. Persuasive Speech On Dress Code
It s that time of the year again, back to school. As much as I ll miss my 15 year old daughter, I am so
glad that we are back in session, that is unless we re talking about the Dress Code Blues. It is the third
day of school today. My daughter casually informed us that she has already seen ten students get dress
coded . Now, the paraprofessional in me knows that you have to start the school year off strong. You
enforce the rules early, and can relax a little once they are established and being followed. That s how
it works in so many places, from group homes to high schools.
Curiously thought, I asked my daughter what the ratio was, boys versus girls, when it came to students
being caught violating the school policy. In response, she laughed out loud and waved me off as if the
question had no validity whatsoever. I questioned her laughter, and she told me point blank, In my
entire school career, 11 years so far, I have only ever saw one boy get in trouble for what he was
wearing, and that shirt had the F Word on it .
As we discussed the policy, and what was fair and unfair , it occurred to me that this has always been
the case when it comes to dress code and dress code enforcement. Girls are the target. Girls bear the
burden of what s appropriate and what is inappropriate, but why?
The hands down most common argument I have seen thrown around is that girls who break the dress
code essentially instigate the boys in the classroom. I ve seen it posted time after time, boys can t
control their hormones or boys will be boys or they only think with what s in their pants . As a father, I
m perplexed by this, as a father of a teenage girl I am appalled by the excuse making.
Are we saying that boys can not be taught common decency, and that they simply can not stop
themselves from giving into their own urges and desires?
Should we be implying that girls don t deal with arousal issues at that age?
Is it even safe to imply that it s somehow the responsibility of teenage girls not to incite the boys? Isn t
that paramount to blaming the victim?
Do you know that an overwhelming majority of dress code rules are specifically targeted to girls?

political process was not used within the internet. It has been said that the General Election would
become a success if the internet could hold the answer to solve its problems. However, this does have
its disadvantage because the internet could maybe cause political standards to collapse. Also to the

In 1776 the United States declared its independence from the tyrannical British Empire and has been
growing as a nation ever since then. The first constitution that the United States developed as a united
country was the Articles of Confederation, which failed horribly. But learning from the mistakes made
in the Articles of Confederation the brilliant minds of early America drafted the Constitution, a
document that still governs the states to this day with only being amended 27 times. In order to be this
successful it was written very broadly with a lot of room for interpretation because every problem

On June 8, 1789 one of the Founding Fathers of the United States of America, James Madison
proposed the Bill of rights to the House of Representatives (Document F). He and many other patriots
saw that there were certain areas that had not been addressed in the Constitution that left the ability for
those who were in the central government to abuse their powers and unreasonably control the
American people. Now you have to take into consideration that the American citizens had to battle for
years just to be free of the tyrannical powers of the King of England, and they wanted to make sure at
all costs that this did not happen again. A constitution that ensured popular sovereignty was the only
answer to this dilemma. The Bill of Rights was soon after ratified and it ensured the people liberties
such as, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free
exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press..., (Document G). These rights
given to the people among many others which were not mentioned made it so that the central
government could do their job of governing the people, but they also gave the people the right to rebel
and speak out against the government if they were being treated unfairly. Without the Bill of Rights

44. How Women Are Treated in India
In many parts of the world females still have very little rights. Indeed, equality between men and
women have been accepted by the majority of the developed countries, but developing countries still
struggle to see women as equals to men, and India is one of the worst. Currently, the Indian National
Congress Party is only 10% female, limiting the say women get. In India, women are definitely not
seen as equals to men are being treated like second rate citizens. It also really says something about
the inequality in a country when its women are so used to being treated badly most of them do not
even recognize that they have rights. In India, men were always valued more than women, which is
why an estimated ten million female foetuses are aborted every year. The lack of females in areas
leads to crimes like human trafficking for sexual reasons like giving birth to more children. Old
traditions and beliefs are the main reasons to why millions of female foetuses are aborted every year,
but it is also the reason behind bride burning, another serious issue in India.
Bride burning, also known as dowry death occurs quite frequently in India. It is when the husband or

Oedipus the King
By Sophocles
The three most important characters in the play are Oedipus, Jocasta, and Tiresias. The story s
revolves around Oedipus s quest for truth as he attempts to find out who his true parents are. Jocasta is
the wife and mother of Oedipus and tries desperately to convince him to abandon the search for his
parents, but fails. Tiresias is a blind prophet who knows the truth about Oedipus. He is the only person
in the play who can clearly see the whole picture and thus serves as a connection to the audience
through dramatic irony.
The story begins with people offering prayers at an altar because a plague has fallen upon the city. The
plague exists because the murderer of Laius has not been found, and Oedipus vows to find and exile
the killer. Oedipus seeks Tiresias, the blind prophet, for information but is angered when he is accused

search for identity. Identity allows all people to distinguish themselves from others, and the search for
identity is something that is shared among nearly all people. Therefore this is something that I was
able to easily identify with Oedipus. The major theme of this work is fate. Oedipus is cursed with
knowing his fate and takes every possible measure to avoid it. Despite moving to another country and
