Riddley Walker Language Analysis
Riddley Walker, which is set two thousand years after a nuclear war, is written in a way that is
hard to understand for the reader because it focuses on the perspective of a young boy who
narrates in a language that has been shaped by a society in post apocalyptic England. The
language may seem simplistic and straightforward but its words connate different meaning and
contexts. Therefore, it is the reader s job to be able to make connections and come up with the
meaning of the words for themselves through Riddley s perspective in which he uses worn down
English. Furthermore, because this novel focuses on Riddley s point of view, it can be described
as a picaresque novel in which Riddley is the hero living in a corrupt society devastated by... Show

Language survived through the nuclear holocaust, yet Riddley s society had to change the
english language in order to fit it into their culture. Specifically, religious and scientific words no
longer held the same use or meaning. Their beliefs, knowledge, and language no longer
depended on abstract ways of thinking, but rather the physical explanation for their origins and
way of living. Themes such as death, religion, and power became prevalent aspects in Riddley s
life as he continued to seek the answer for human nature and why we are who we are. Hoban
conveyed this shift of language through the use of phonetic language, that slows down the reader
s recognition. Thus, Hoban causes the audience to truly derive meaning from the context and
meaning of the world, figuring for themselves the nature of Riddley s experiences and
connections. Furthermore, Eusa is the center of a legend that Riddley s people rely their
understanding on. As the culprit, Eusa, obtained cleverness and as a result an entire world was
destroyed. Furthermore, people no longer understand the basics of technology nor understand
religion. They had to revert to pre modern times and had to learn to adapt to a new way of life.
Their way of life changed and so did their language. No longer do words have the same
connotation and they no longer believe in the same things. Riddley s society is experiencing the

Luohan Earthenware Analysis
The Luohan earthenware piece in the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art is a beautiful representation of
12th century Chinese art that borrows techniques and style from the late 7th century Tang Dynasty.
The Nelson Atkin s Luohan was brought to Kansas City for the opening of the museum in 1933
and was then acquired a year later. The museum s great seated Luohan is one of several similar
sculptures there are discrepancies in exactly how many of these types of sculptures were actually
produced. Goheen states there were seven now known to have survived from the original number
(probably sixteen in all) (Goheen 169). However on the other hand Mackenzie states there were
nine of these earthenware sculptures. The Nelson Atkins luohan has only required ... Show more

The Bureaucratic System Of Public Administration
Introduction How Kristin Died is a prime example of one of the many issues inherent within the
bureaucratic system and the misfortunes that can stem from it. This case forever changed the lives
of those involved and unfortunately resulted in the death of Kristin Lardner, a 21 year old college
student, at the hands of Michael Cartier, her estranged boyfriend. It is important to public
administration because public administration contains many issues of hierarchy and redundancy.
Public administration also has the power to mold the environments where it is present in many
ways. This case is strongly related to organizational theory, the relationship organizations have with
the environment and how individuals behave within. When presented, the information within the
case surrounding the details of Kristin s death proves that had the bureaucracies involved taken the
necessary preventative measures, this tragedy may not have occurred. The main individuals of this
case include: Kristin Lardner, Michael Cartier, Tom Case and Rose Ryan. Although others were
involved, these individuals had the most influence within the case. Although Lardner was originally
from Washington, DC, this event takes place in Boston, Massachusetts, where she attends college
in the early 1990 s. History Cartier showed signs of trouble very early on. As a child it is stated
that he would light matches behind a gas stove, and even mutilated his pet rabbit. Due to these acts,

Some people say that dragons have no place in modern history but they are incorrect.
Dragon myths should be told more because Dragon myths explain most of China s history and what

The dragon is unique. In many different cultures the dragon can be good, but in others it can be
bad. If the dragon is a symbol of China than there has to be a resemblance between China and the
dragon. China has invented a large percent of the products that people use everyday. For example,
the toothbrush was made in 1498 from bamboo and the neck hairs of a hog. Like in China the
dragon represents goodness and inventions are goodness and help. But China is widely known for

Baking Soda Lab Report
Introduction
Baking soda is a common household item. It is used for a variety of things from cooking to
cleaning. Baking soda is synthesised on an industrial scale using the Solvay process. The Solvay
process consist of using limestone and extreme heat in order to break down the limestone into
carbon dioxide and calcium oxide.1
CaCO3(s)в†’ CO2(g) + CaO(s) The carbon dioxide is then combined with a concentrated solution of
water, sodium chloride, and ammonium. The ammonia and water react to make ammonium
hydroxide that reacts with sodium and carbon dioxide to form sodium bicarbonate.
CO2(g) +NH3(aq)+NaCl(aq)+H2O(l)в†’NaHCO3(s)+NH4Cl(g)2
The Solvay process then recycles the ammonia by performing an acid base reaction. The calcium

Results and Discussions After filtration, 5.256 g of sodium bicarbonate was obtained. An
experimental error in this experiment was that 100 percent of the carbon dioxide did not go
through the nalgene tube because some went up the thistle tube. Another source of experimental
error was that not all of the sodium bicarbonate could be rinsed off of the glassware and not all
of it was filtered. Both sources of experimental error led to a lower yield. Precipitation reactions
could have been done to confirm the presence of carbonate ions in the product. Either calcium,
copper, iron, magnesium, or silver could have been added to the product and carbonate would
have precipitated out. Using stoichiometry and the mole to mole ratio from the 2nd formula
listed above, it was found that 3x108 Kg of carbon dioxide is needed to produce the 700,000 tons
of Arm and Hammer baking soda. In order to obtain the 5.256 g of product, 2.753 g of carbon
dioxide was converted into sodium

Its perspectives on racism and empathy have been reviewed, criticized, and analyzed by every
demographic. But there is the ever present question: what, in essence, does Harper Lee mean when
she declares it a sin to kill a mockingbird? Though she reveals that it is a sin because they are
innocent, what is she truly implying? Is she discussing the events of Tom Robinson s fictional

The Scottsboro Boys was a nationally controversial case; and it all began with nine African
American men and two white women aboard a train. The train ride began on March 25, 1931. A
fight erupted between the African American men and the white men on board the train, and the
African American men won and forced the white men off. After news of the fight spread to
Paint Rock, Alabama, all able men with weapons waited for the train to arrive for its mortar
stop. When the train pulled in, a racial confrontation immediately ensued. In the midst of it all,
two women, Victoria Price and Ruby Bates, emerged from a train car and claimed they had been
raped by the nine African American men that had been on the train. Only the verbal confirmation
from one of the white women that they had been raped was enough to send the public into a
frenzy. The men of Paint Rock surrounded the African American boys and forced them to line up
against a wall. Then they aggressively made them stand and wait for a bus to take them to
Scottsboro. The Scottsboro Boys were surrounded by the aggressive public as soon as they were
put in the Scottsboro jail. The sheriff had to go out and declare that violence towards the prisoners
would result in violence towards the instigator. While Atticus Finch did not condone violence, this
is similar to the To Kill A Mockingbird jail scene. Additionally, Victoria Price, one of the accusers,
had traits similar to those of Mayella Ewell. When the trials actually began, she would be extremely
evasive on the witness stand, and claim she did not know what would seem to be rather obvious
information. Also, her manner indicated she was uneducated, and like Mayella, and she would
frequently burst out in unintelligible streams of sentences. She was tough as nails, with foul
language, and improper clothes. She hardly fit the stereotype of the young Southern

Annotated Bibliography On Animal Poaching
Jorge Ramirez
Professor Andrew Franz Esq.

Elephant Poaching When one imagines what elephants are like in the wild, they imagine giant
animals roaming the land eating plenty of food and drinking plenty of water. The average person
may not know, or understand, that there are people that practice the illegal killing of elephants, or
poaching, in order to obtain and then sell or trade that ivory for whatever is valuable to the
poacher. Poaching is illegal because it has led to the significant decline in the elephant population in
recent years and can very well lead to severe endangerment or worse, extinction. Elephants are
more than just animals that graze on the land, but they are animals that can spread the seeds of
the plants they eat. Elephants roam a large area of land, and therefore, spread seeds via their
dung. This is great for plants that have no ways of transportation, except for falling next to their
parent plant. Along with the vast spreading of seeds, the seeds that are in elephant stomachs are
softened, which means the seeds are able to germinate faster than seeds that have not been softened
(Scientificamerican). Due to this there must be lots of plants that have been dependent on
elephants because of co evolution. The poaching of elephants is an issue that must be looked into
not only because of reasons stated above, but also because the extinction of a certain species can
only cause a domino effect of cataclysms. The matter of poaching

changed quite a bit, especially how someone shoots a basketball. It started out with having players
feet squared to the basket at shoulder width apart as the way everyone shot or taught it. Now more
and more people are learning to shoot with their feet turned away from the basket and using an
armband that prevents a player from using their guide hand to help them threw the motion of there

Essay J.R.R. Tolkien
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, creator of a world. When someone who knows Tolkien is asked
about his works, one thought comes to mind, Middle Earth. This was the playground in his mind
that such vivid descriptions of fantasylands came from. It is the base of his most well known
stories, where dreams are just the norm. br br J.R.R. may owe much of his success to his diverse
beginnings. On April 16, 1891, Mabel Suffield and Arthur Reuel Tolkien were married in
Bloemfontein, South Africa. They soon gave birth to John Ronald Reuel Tolkien on January 3,
1892, who was christened later that month. br br In April of 1895 Mabel took J.R.R. and his
younger brother to Birmingham England. Arthur, their father, was supposed to follow them in a few

To console and distract him J. R. R. improvised a story, the story of Rover, a real dog magically
transformed into a toy. After many fantastic adventures in search of the wizard who wronged
him, at last he wins back his doggy life. This charming tale, inhabited by a terrible dragon and a
wise old whale, by the king of the sea, and the Man in the Moon, was a Tolkien family favorite.
Before Tolkien s death, it went through several drafts over the years, but was not published until
after his death. br br In 1919, J.R.R. went to work for the Oxford English Dictionary for 2 years,
which expanded his horizons even further, as he developed a rich use of the English language. In
1921, he began teaching at the University of Leeds, and by 1924, became Professor of English
Language. In 1925 Tolkien moved to Oxford, where he served as Rawlingson Professor of Anglo
Saxon and Fellow of Pembroke College for the next 24 years. During this time he specialized in
old and middle English. br br In 1936 the Hobbit is completed and published the following year.
Originally this masterpiece was intended to be a children s book, but it is now celebrated
throughout the fantasy genre as a classic. This is by far, my own personally favorite book I have
ever read. It has all the elements of a wonderfully written fantasy. br br Bilbo Baggins, the hobbit,
is in a peaceful sort of cozy hole in the Shire, a place where adventures are uncommon and rather
unwanted.

The United States And Western Europe
Today, there are a large number of foreign people fleeing their country of origins to arrive into first
world nations such as the United States and Western Europe. The news have been publishing a
migration crisis , which is many people from the middle east and other unstable countries e.g. Syria,
Iraq, Palestine, Eritrea etc. and arriving in western Europein almost millions each month and
thousands each day. The reason for that is because their countries of origins are not safe places
live in causing their life to be in danger. The root causes is civil war, poverty, corrupt government.
According, to the media publication about the war in Syria and across most of the Middle East, this
topic has become a trending concerning topic; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In coastal countries where migrants set foot there are advertisement posted telling the people to
turn back from Europe and go home. Many European nations are doing this because they have
already settled in millions of migrants and cannot settle in anymore. This mass migration crisis all
began after the uprising in Middle Eastern countries, the civil war in Syria was the byproduct of
the uprising plus with the assistance of foreign help. However other countries where migrants are
fleeing from have a different issues causing many people to run away.
For instance the migrants that are fleeing for unstable nations are not just form Syria but also
from Iraq. In 2001 the U.S. began sending troops to Iraq to fight of terrorists. Instead the U.S.
occupation in Iraq has caused turmoil and instability. Another country that people are fleeing
form is Eritrea. This country is a small nation ruled by President Isaias Afwerki. The president is
known for murdering the civilians, imprisoning people unjustly and living off on the citizen s
money. Other nations people are fleeing form, are countries across the Middle East and Africa. It
is these countries there is no form of freedom, peace, and prosperity. In this two regions there is

Alternative Energy Essay
Modern alternative energy generation methods are limited by several factors including efficiency,
inability to respond to sudden changes in power demand, and susceptibility to environmental
events. In 2010 the leading renewable energy sources were hydro electric, wind, bioenergy,
geothermal, and solar Photo Voltaic (PV)[1]. Of these, hydroelectric made up 82% of the
renewable resource energygeneration, while the other means all contributed about equally. These
relationships can be seen clearly in the table below. Although hydroelectric makes up a large
portion of the electricity produced, it is not appropriate to discount the other sources due to the
frequency where hydroelectric power generation is unpractical. It is important to have a... Show

The addition of the dam can also have negative effects downstream, where water flow will now be
restricted. These drawbacks often make a hydroelectric dam impractical, and as a result cannot be
the only form of renewable energy that we consider bringing into a smart grid.
After hydroelectric, the next leading energy producer is the wind turbine. In 2015, wind turbines
across the United States generated roughly 226 billion kilowatt hours of electricity[3]. Wind
turbines raise many different concerns from hydroelectric power sources because of how
differently these sources create electricity. The wind turbine operates by transforming the kinetic
energy of the wind into electricity using a generator turned by the turbine blades. The most notable
difference in performance between these sources is that, unlike hydroelectric dams, which can in
impractical or simply impossible in some places in the world, the wind turbine is acceptable
anywhere that wind is present. Though wind can be found everywhere, there is a significant issue
that the wind does not blow to match the demand for electricity. This means there are three states
that these systems can operate in. Should the turbines be permitted to spin freely, they could
produce more electricity than is needed, or if it were a calm day, electricity demands could
outweigh the amount of electricity produced. It s almost impossible for the

Finger Marks Techniques
Finger marks are known as a small print that can be left on any surface, each finger mark is
unique to an individual. There are multiple types of finger marks the three main ones are known
as a Whorl, Arch and Loops. The finger marks are always photographed before being collected at
a crime scene, there are several different types of techniques that are used to be able to lift the
prints. There are hinge lifts, rubber lifts and cellophane tape.
Hinge lift can be used using multiple different colours backgrounds this to allow for the
visualisation of the finger marks so that they can be developed using different colour powders. The

There will be 8 different finger marks that will be used each time for each experiment that will
take place. These prints will be created by one individual to be able to keep a constant pattern
within the practical. There are two slightly methods that will be used, the first method is
cyanoacrylate fuming the item that contains the print will be suspended within the tank this is to
ensure that the item is exposed to the fumes. This process will take up to 45 minutes once the time
is completed the whitish coloured print will appear on the item showing the finger mark/s. The
print can be enhance further using a fluorescent dye the fan is then turned on and is then used to
circulate the fumes which will then increase the surface contact between the latent print residue
and the cyanoacrylate vapours. A heating method will then be applied and the cyanoacrylate will
be placed onto a dish and then a heating tool will then be placed onto the dish until it accelerates
the polymerization process of the cyanoacrylate however there is a possibility that heating the
cyanoacrylate will accelerate the volatility which then in turn will mean a faster vapour release
which will then accelerate the recovery of the latent print. Another method that is going to be used
within this practical is like the first method, however this current method will be using
approximately 25 drops of liquid cyanoacrylate and this will then be placed into a magnetically
locked in a shelf above the item that is about to be fumed. The fume cupboard will then be heated to
120 degrees with the humidity being maintained at 80 degrees. The heating and the humidity cycle
will then take approximately 30 minutes, the fuming cabinet will need to take 20 minutes to
remove any harmful residual vapours. Once this is complete the print that has been exposed by the

Good And Evil In Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown
Another powerful symbol used to portray the theme of evil is the staff. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses
this symbol in a clear way to represent evil in a form mainly about temptation. The devil is first
shown as the traveler with the staff: But the only thing about him that could be fixed upon as
remarkable was his staff, which bore the likeness of a great black snake (Hawthorne, 454).
GoodmanBrown was mesmerized by the snake, which is relatable to Eve s excitement for Tree
of Good and Evil. The staff is shown as a symbol of a serpent, which is usually a strong symbol of
evil and slyness. The serpent is normally painted with such negative nouns because of the infamous

Goodman Brown then succumbs to the temptation. Hawthorne then adds the symbolic moment
before he ventures out which is when he finds his wife s ribbon and he begins to cry out that he
has loss of his Faith. Hawthorne adds this particular detail to it at first to explain the loss of
Goodman Brown s wife then he connects a deeper meaning to it to show that Goodman Brown
recognizes that he is losing his faith. He then speaks of it in the actual text that he has fallen into
sin and there is nothing for him to do because he has been tempted. Goodman Brown has accepted
his fallen state. There is no good on earth, and sin is but a name. Come, devil! for to thee is this
world given (Hawthorne, 456) Hawthorne then connects this to the biblical story when the snake
tempted Eve and the snake was the form of the devil. Hawthorne uses different metaphors to

When this happens to me I usually put my decision to the side and allow for another s decision

I tend to bottle them up and keep them to myself until I get home. At which time, I have no

Deformation of this tissue results in depolarization of the neuron.
Both light touch and deep pressure are fast adapting senses. The bulb of connective tissue is
involved with adaptation. When deformation of these receptors first occurs, there is a burst of
electrical activity. If the stimulus is sustained, the bulb then mechanically adjusts to it, and allows
the sensory nerve to repolarize. The effect is loss of sensation. As soon as the pattern of
deformation changes, the neuron immediately depolarizes again. The overall effect is to increase
sensitivity to changes in the pattern of physical contact (touch) with the environment.
Observations to make:
Look at the photo of a Meissner s corpuscle in the book, and locate the receptor. Observe the nerve
fibers within the capsule (bulb). Notice how they are arranged parallel to the skin surface. Describe

Stewardship As A Whole Function
Stewardship in Nursing
Andreas Munk
The concept of stewardship is an ongoing part of nursing. As defined by Merriam Webster
dictionary, stewardship is the activity or job of protecting and being responsible for something. In
this case that something corresponds to the nursing field as a whole. The concept of stewardship is
not thought of as often as it should be. Sometimes stewardship can be confused with religious
meanings or often is simply not a topic that is heavily weighted. However stewardship is indeed an
intricate concept that is vital for the overall success of nursing. I believe stewardship in nursing is
the ability to improve, enhance, and oversee the prosperity of how nursing as a whole functions.
Stewardship entails many areas of concern such as safety, increased autonomy from other health
care professions, accreditation, economics, and most importantly the overall needs of the patient.
As nursing s future continues to change, stewardship is vital in developing life long learning
practices and ultimately shaping current and future leaders. In order for standards of practice to
support the future, nurse leaders demonstrating stewardship must be able to collaborate to form
innovative models of care delivery in order to best serve the patient and work efficiently within the
health care system. In this paper I will be discussing what defines stewardship and why it is
important in nursing. Next, current issues involving stewardship in

Comparing O Captain ! My Captain And Cool Tombs
Poetic Comparison of O Captain! My Captain! and Cool Tombs O Captain! My Captain! by Walt
Whitman and Cool Tombs by Carl Sandburg depict the death of President Lincoln, which reflects
the willingness of Civil War era Americans to sacrifice the safety of their president and the lives
of soldiers for the greater socioeconomic purpose. In O Captain! My Captain! Whitman employs a
metaphor of President Lincoln as a captain of a ship to illustrate the price of modernization,
characterizing the Northerner s struggle for unity to supply the growing nation s needs. Similarly,
Sandburg employs an impartial tone in Cool Tombs to convey the insignificance of the individual

The Pros And Cons Of Cartoon Network
Something is happening here, and I m getting a little worried. But first, I m going to jump ahead
a bit and talk in general terms about how it is entirely feasible for us to do everything humanly
possible to cultivate people s minds and refine their judgment. Then, I ll back up and fill in some
of the details. Okay, so to start with the general stuff, Cartoon Network can pervert any
established ideology. It is for this reason that I find it hilarious that it would have the audacity to
even pretend that it s a wonderful, charitable organization. As we all know, the truth is that if
Cartoon Network doesn t realize that it s generally considered bad style to pilfer the national
treasure, then it should read one of the many self help books on the subject. I recommend it buy
one with big print and lots of pictures. Maybe then Cartoon Network will grasp the concept that
we are in trouble when hitherto reputable people recover the dead past by annihilating the living
present. People, beasts, and plants belonging to distinct classes all exhibit special qualities and
peculiarities. Unfortunately, Cartoon Network s special quality is that it swears that it acts in the
name of equality and social justice. Despite the emphasis that it places on that asseveration, we
all know that it s a willful, malicious, and deliberate lie that serves only to prove that Jacobinism

Causes Of Hepatitis C
Hepatitis C is a form of liver inflammation caused by the hepacivirus, a member of the Flaviviridae
family. It is a highly infectious blood born disease most commonly transmitted by shared needles
among drug users. According to the CDC it affects approximately 3.9 million Americans and
unfortunately 2.7 million of those individuals are chronically infected. Because the signs and
symptoms may not appear sometimes for up to 20 30 years, many people may die from the chronic
illness as the disease has a higher treatment response in the acute stages. Along with shared needles,
other routes of transmission include tattooing, body piercing, needle sticks in health care setting,
and parental infections during pregnancy and child birth. Uncommonly, transmission can occur
through intercourse with an infected person or sharing personal items, such as razors or
toothbrushes, that may have infected blood on them. There has been question whether breast milk
can cause infection, however, there is currently no evidence of this. Many people may not know
they are infected since it can take years for symptoms to appear and the majority of signs and
symptoms typically are related to other conditions such as stress or influenza. Fever, fatigue,

Essay on The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz
The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz Duddy is No Monster
I think you re rotten, says Yvette at the end of The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, I wish you
were dead (Richler 318). This sentiment is echoed throughout a substantial amount of the criticism
of Mordecai Richler s tale. At best, we question whether Duddy has learned anything during his
apprenticeship; at worst, we accuse him of taking a tremendous step backwards, of becoming an
utterly contemptible human being. When Duddy steals money from his friend and admirer, Virgil,
to pay for the final parcel of land around Lac St. Pierre, it may seem that he has sunk to a low from
which he may never recover; but careful consideration of the events leading up to the theft, the ...

The force of Max s storytelling teaches Duddy that the Boy Wonder is someone to be emulated. In
Duddy Kravitz, from Apprentice to Legend, Grant McGregor describes Duddy s life as
apprenticeship to a perverted myth (McGregor 133), and in many ways this is true. Although he
presents an image of success, and Max Kravitz s tales make him out to be the ultimate
accomplished businessman, Jerry Dingleman is a corrupt, cruel person. For his entire life,
Duddy has been told that he will never succeed, but he is resilient. With the Boy Wonder as his
example, Duddy intends to prove everyone wrong. He liked to think, in fact, that point for point
he was a lot like the Boy Wonder before he had made his name (62). The audience is made aware,
fairly early on, that the Boy Wonder is a crook, but this information eludes Duddy until far into
the story, when Duddy has already achieved some measure of success by his own means, part of it
by the trickery he mastered during his high school years, but now that he has matured quite a bit,
also by sheer hard work.
Duddy fights a continual uphill battle for success; he wants to be someone of whom his father is

The Army s Status As A Profession Essay
There are many things that contribute to the US Army s status as a profession. The US Army relies
heavily on patriotism and positive public opinion to maintain its status as a profession. The US
Army currently sustains its enlistment levels solely through volunteers from the general
population. Throughout history the draft has been initiated very rarely in order to augment the
ranks. Congress approves the funding and benefits that make the US Army a viable profession for
those US citizens who volunteer to serve. Without adequate financial support, many soldiers could
not afford to volunteer to serve. The public must trust that militaryand congressional leaders will
utilize the Army, comprised of the sons and daughters who volunteered to serve, in moral and
ethical ways and for purposes that support only the best interests of the United States. If Army
soldiers and their leaders acts in reprehensible ways that destroy the trust and confidence the public
places in this profession, the status of the Army stands at risk of declining. There are multiple
instances throughout history where the status of the US Army has declined in the eyes of the
public. Since Vietnam, the public has received close up photos and first hand accounts of the
horrors of war. Vietnam represents a time when the military was viewed negatively by many people
throughout the US. Soldiers returning from overseas were ostracized and subjected to degrading
and often violent public protests. These

The Impact Of Wireless Communication Industry On The...
This report is meant to advise Mr. Van Hanebanker and his partners on my recommendation in
regards to investing in Wind Mobile. A decision must be made regarding this investment before the

industry in Canada. The wirelessindustry in Canada presents a unique opportunity for investment
due to the oligopolistic structure and market breakdown. Currently, there are three major players
in the industry and there is extensive room for growth and development as an industry and for
Wind Mobile itself to gain significant market share. Some of the factors I will consider over the
course of this analysis and recommendation include: the wireless communication industry in
Canada, growth and competition in the industry and growth of Wind Mobile, and Canada s
current economic state. Within these brackets, assessments of the average revenue per user, the
growth in subscribers and other indicators of Wind s performance will be analyzed. They will be
compared to industry standards and may demonstrate how Wind compares with the Big 3 firms,
who benefit from aspects such as economies of scale. I believe my assessment will give Mr. Van

Analysis Of On Death Row, But Is He Innocent
In On Death Row, but Is He Innocent? Nicholas Kristof explores the position that the evidence
that convicted Kevin Cooper, an inmate on death row in San Quentin State Prison, may be
unreliable. In 1983, a California professor drove to his neighbor s house to pick up his eleven
year old son. He peered through the window to find the house in a state of bloody disarray.
Amongst the blood was the bodies of his neighbor s family and the lifeless body of his son.
Additionally, the professor Joshua Ryen who was stabbed multiple times, but still clinging to life.
Kristof highlights the overwhelming evidence of policetampering with evidence that sent Kevin
Cooper to death row. Additionally, Kristof suggests evidence as to Cooper s innocence was not
given proper scrutiny. Therefore, Kristof alleges Cooper s case, particularly the evidence, should be
reviewed. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger denied this request. Although as Attorney General of
California, Jerry Brown should little interest in the case, as Governor he is currently reviewing the
case.
The fallacy of irrelevance, or ignoratio elenchi, is an argument purporting to establish a particular
conclusion, but is instead directed to proving another conclusion. Kristof potentially frames the
fallacy of ignoratio elenchi even from the title: On Death Row, but Is He Innocent? On the one

Nursing And Nursing Careers
Nursing Nursing has been an occupation that I have had my mind set on since I was in the
second grade. I have always loved the idea of helping people fight their medical battles and being
there for them, like someone once was for me. When I was born, I had to have a portion of my
left lung taken out. I was not expected to live while my mom was pregnant with me and my
sister. After I was born, I was rushed to surgery to remove part of my left lung. Because of the
doctors and nurses that had been there for me while I was fighting my battles, I had survived
and lead a healthy, normal life now. I want to do the same thing for someone else. I love the idea
of being the so called superhero of someone else s life. There are many shapes and sizes of the
jobs that registered nurses may do. They provide health care for patients, inform patients of their
health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members

They comfort a patient and help them emotionally just as much as they help them physically.

Different ethnic groups of new immigrants obtained power and used conflict as a strategy of

Although there may be a sense of fatigue, dancers feel better about themselves. That is the feeling
one gets when one thinks to himself I feel like I have lost at least ten pounds. In addition, that
feeling is what helps to maintain mental health.
Exercise can and will change personal outlook, personal perceptions and this in turn affects
other areas of life. Stress causes people to get agitated easily and to always be tense. Dance
aerobics has been shown to help relieve stress and allow anyone to feel more relaxed. Following
a regular aerobics program gives you a sense of commitment and control two positive mental
attitudes that help counteract stress. Aerobics also relax tense muscles, thereby completing (and
relieving) your body s stress response. Finally, medical research has shown that regular aerobic
activity increases the body s production of endorphins (a natural sedative) and catecholamines
(chemical substances that help stabilize moods). (Aerobics for Health) Many times people are
stressed about their weight, and this may cause depression. As Missett has stated in her book,
The Jazzercise Workout Book, Exercise has been proven more effective than antidepressants. (21)
She goes on to point out, Stress can cause people to eat more than they should, causing more
stress because they have realized how much more they have gained. (19) She goes on to assert that
many stress related problems have occurred to many people due to lack of

Following Johns Model of Structured Reflection
For this reflective piece I am going to write about a situation I encountered whilst on my community
placement with the district nurse. To write the essay I will be following Johns model of structured
reflection as a basis to structure my reflection around.
Johns Model of Structured Reflection (Johns 1998)
1.Write a description of the experience. Ask yourself:
* What are the significant issues I need to pay attention to?
Whilst on my community placement for one of my initial spokes, I arranged to spend the morning
with the district nurse on her rounds, to gain an insight into her role within the community and find
out first hand exactly what her job entails. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3.Personal: ask your self:
How did I feel in this situation?
What internal factors were influencing me?
During the whole situation from the moment we pulled up out side the house I was very nervous
and wanting to give a good impression only made this worse. Once we had entered the house and
met Tom I calmed down a little. I was surprised at my own reaction of distaste when I entered the
house and encounter a grumpy drunk so early in the morning; I had no prior knowledge of his
situation (Claire later informed me that his wife had recently divorced him and he was having
difficulties coping).
When Claire asked me to do the drops I declined, at the time I was annoyed with myself for
missing the opportunity to practice my clinical skills.
4.Ethics: ask yourself:
Did my actions match with my beliefs?
What factors made me act in incongruent ways?
In refection my actions did not match the beliefs I held about myself before coming on
community. From my time on my ward placements I thought I had built up a good professional
attitude and could work my way around difficult situations. What I was not prepared for was how
much; the lack of familiar surroundings would affect my actions and how nervous I felt about
giving a good impression to Claire and the patients.
The main factors that made me act in such a way were, nervousness, lack of confidence and

Defense Mechanisms Are The Most Important Of The Ego Function
(1) According to Berzoff, Flanagan, Hertz, Basham, Heller, Mattei, Shilket (2011) defense
mechanisms are the most important of the ego functions. One threat are problems among the
different agencies of the mind (id, ego, superego). This occurs when individual s unconscious
wishes and fears are not attuned with behavior expectations of their familymember, caregivers or
friends (Berzoff et al., 2011). Another danger is the disturbance of the mental balance due to
trauma. Trauma occurs when psychological steadiness is intervened when trying to cope with
startling events (Berzoff et al., 2011). These encounters may have prompted for Susana to
communicate various forms of defense mechanism, according the case study.
One of the mechanisms Susana uses is regression. Regression is adopting behavior from an
earlier period of development (Robbins et al., 2012). For example, this becomes clear with the
obvious signs of Susana becoming clingier with her mom Jackie along with the hitting of
scratching when she tries to stop her from unacceptable behaviors. A reason for this defense
mechanism could be due to Jacquie s relationship with her new boyfriend. Susana use to spend
time with her mom and falling asleep however this has changed because Jacquie is no longer
there on the weekends as she goes out. Susana s actions correlate with regression because she is 5
year old child but her outburst are coinciding with those of a toddler. This type of anger behavior is
maladaptive because they

Original Authors: Qinghua Zhu, HelongLi, Senlin Zhao, Venus Lun.
Publisher: International journal of production Economics.

Introduction:
Remanufacturing has now a days become very popular from auto motives, electronics to IT because
it makes production economical and environmentally attractive. But it s not fully accepted by
customers because of quality and aftersales concern. Two new service modes (extended warranty
and free replacement service) are developed to address this problem. Using mathematical models,
financial benefits are evaluated to see whether these modes make significant difference or not.
The survey of Sinotruk Jinan Fuqiang Power Co., Ltd. (JFP) customers using remanufactured
heavy truck engines is carried out with information if and how two newly designed service modes
can provide financial gains over traditional service modes. This company is well known for selling
more than 50% of the total remanufactured truck engines all across China
Benefit evaluation by 5 steps:
1.Demand and profit function is used to determine benefit of the services. The first step includes
calculating warranty, replacement length and price which changes according to real life situation.
Same can be calculated for remanufacturing products.
2.The survey is conducted to find out how many customers are

Countries that have experienced communism in their economy obtain a high chance of
government collapse such as the Soviet Union due to insufficient supplies and lack of allies. Not
only
did it have a hard time finding economic partners, it was also pushed into an arms race it couldn t
possibly win. Changing your economic system into a political theory that is known to be destroying
can
cause tensions and lose the allies that were once formed. One of the main reasons for the economic
stagnation was the Soviet s failure to manufacture innovative products that could compete on the
market.
The manufacturing of goods is the government s main source of profits and having that industry
decline
in earnings can create debt and insufficient amount of goods leading to the collapse of a society.
Implementing communism into a countries federal system can cause a decline in profit creating a
chain
reaction of tensions, economic downfall, and a noncompliant society.

punishment was rather simple, but cruel in a matter. He was the one who challenged the gods and
failed. Atlas was punished for his wrongdoing, he is mentioned in many tales and myths, and he has
a well known family. Atlasis a Titan who represents the figure that holds the heavens upon his
shoulders. He was the leader of the Titans when they went to war with Zeus, but after they were
defeated his fate was to bear on his back forever, the cruel strength of the crushing world, and the
vault of the sky. Upon his shoulders the great pillar, that holds apart the earth and the heaven,, A
load not easy to be borne. The importance of Atlas in Greek Mythologywas that he was the leader of
the Titans, he was the one who challenged the God Zeus. However after his defeat in the battle, his
new purpose to the Mythology was to bear the punishment of holding the heavens upon his shoulder
forever. Atlas and his brother Menoetius sided with the Titans against the other Olympians and
when the Titans were eventually defeated many of them were confined to Tartarus including Atlas s

  • 2. Riddley Walker Language Analysis Riddley Walker, which is set two thousand years after a nuclear war, is written in a way that is hard to understand for the reader because it focuses on the perspective of a young boy who narrates in a language that has been shaped by a society in post apocalyptic England. The language may seem simplistic and straightforward but its words connate different meaning and contexts. Therefore, it is the reader s job to be able to make connections and come up with the meaning of the words for themselves through Riddley s perspective in which he uses worn down English. Furthermore, because this novel focuses on Riddley s point of view, it can be described as a picaresque novel in which Riddley is the hero living in a corrupt society devastated by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Language survived through the nuclear holocaust, yet Riddley s society had to change the english language in order to fit it into their culture. Specifically, religious and scientific words no longer held the same use or meaning. Their beliefs, knowledge, and language no longer depended on abstract ways of thinking, but rather the physical explanation for their origins and way of living. Themes such as death, religion, and power became prevalent aspects in Riddley s life as he continued to seek the answer for human nature and why we are who we are. Hoban conveyed this shift of language through the use of phonetic language, that slows down the reader s recognition. Thus, Hoban causes the audience to truly derive meaning from the context and meaning of the world, figuring for themselves the nature of Riddley s experiences and connections. Furthermore, Eusa is the center of a legend that Riddley s people rely their understanding on. As the culprit, Eusa, obtained cleverness and as a result an entire world was destroyed. Furthermore, people no longer understand the basics of technology nor understand religion. They had to revert to pre modern times and had to learn to adapt to a new way of life. Their way of life changed and so did their language. No longer do words have the same connotation and they no longer believe in the same things. Riddley s society is experiencing the ... • 4. The Bureaucratic System Of Public Administration Introduction How Kristin Died is a prime example of one of the many issues inherent within the bureaucratic system and the misfortunes that can stem from it. This case forever changed the lives of those involved and unfortunately resulted in the death of Kristin Lardner, a 21 year old college student, at the hands of Michael Cartier, her estranged boyfriend. It is important to public administration because public administration contains many issues of hierarchy and redundancy. Public administration also has the power to mold the environments where it is present in many ways. This case is strongly related to organizational theory, the relationship organizations have with the environment and how individuals behave within. When presented, the information within the case surrounding the details of Kristin s death proves that had the bureaucracies involved taken the necessary preventative measures, this tragedy may not have occurred. The main individuals of this case include: Kristin Lardner, Michael Cartier, Tom Case and Rose Ryan. Although others were involved, these individuals had the most influence within the case. Although Lardner was originally from Washington, DC, this event takes place in Boston, Massachusetts, where she attends college in the early 1990 s. An experimental error in this experiment was that 100 percent of the carbon dioxide did not go through the nalgene tube because some went up the thistle tube. Both sources of experimental error led to a lower yield. Precipitation reactions could have been done to confirm the presence of carbonate ions in the product. Either calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, or silver could have been added to the product and carbonate would have precipitated out. The Scottsboro Boys was a nationally controversial case; and it all began with nine African American men and two white women aboard a train. The train ride began on March 25, 1931. A fight erupted between the African American men and the white men on board the train, and the African American men won and forced the white men off. After news of the fight spread to Paint Rock, Alabama, all able men with weapons waited for the train to arrive for its mortar stop. When the train pulled in, a racial confrontation immediately ensued. In the midst of it all, two women, Victoria Price and Ruby Bates, emerged from a train car and claimed they had been raped by the nine African American men that had been on the train. Only the verbal confirmation from one of the white women that they had been raped was enough to send the public into a frenzy. The men of Paint Rock surrounded the African American boys and forced them to line up against a wall. Then they aggressively made them stand and wait for a bus to take them to Scottsboro. The Scottsboro Boys were surrounded by the aggressive public as soon as they were put in the Scottsboro jail. The sheriff had to go out and declare that violence towards the prisoners would result in violence towards the instigator. While Atticus Finch did not condone violence, this is similar to the To Kill A Mockingbird jail scene. Additionally, Victoria Price, one of the accusers, had traits similar to those of Mayella Ewell. When the trials actually began, she would be extremely evasive on the witness stand, and claim she did not know what would seem to be rather obvious information. Also, her manner indicated she was uneducated, and like Mayella, and she would frequently burst out in unintelligible streams of sentences. She was tough as nails, with foul language, and improper clothes. She hardly fit the stereotype of the young Southern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Annotated Bibliography On Animal Poaching Jorge Ramirez Professor Andrew Franz Esq. CJL 4115 April 15, 2015 Elephant Poaching When one imagines what elephants are like in the wild, they imagine giant animals roaming the land eating plenty of food and drinking plenty of water. The average person may not know, or understand, that there are people that practice the illegal killing of elephants, or poaching, in order to obtain and then sell or trade that ivory for whatever is valuable to the poacher. Poaching is illegal because it has led to the significant decline in the elephant population in recent years and can very well lead to severe endangerment or worse, extinction. Elephants are more than just animals that graze on the land, but they are animals that can spread the seeds of the plants they eat. Elephants roam a large area of land, and therefore, spread seeds via their dung. This is great for plants that have no ways of transportation, except for falling next to their parent plant. Along with the vast spreading of seeds, the seeds that are in elephant stomachs are softened, which means the seeds are able to germinate faster than seeds that have not been softened (Scientificamerican). Due to this there must be lots of plants that have been dependent on elephants because of co evolution. The poaching of elephants is an issue that must be looked into not only because of reasons stated above, but also because the extinction of a certain species can only cause a domino effect of cataclysms. The matter of poaching ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was the playground in his mind that such vivid descriptions of fantasylands came from. They soon gave birth to John Ronald Reuel Tolkien on January 3, 1892, who was christened later that month. br br In April of 1895 Mabel took J.R.R. and his younger brother to Birmingham England. Before Tolkien s death, it went through several drafts over the years, but was not published until after his death. br br In 1919, J.R.R. went to work for the Oxford English Dictionary for 2 years, which expanded his horizons even further, as he developed a rich use of the English language. In 1921, he began teaching at the University of Leeds, and by 1924, became Professor of English Language. In 1925 Tolkien moved to Oxford, where he served as Rawlingson Professor of Anglo Saxon and Fellow of Pembroke College for the next 24 years. During this time he specialized in old and middle English. br br In 1936 the Hobbit is completed and published the following year. Originally this masterpiece was intended to be a children s book, but it is now celebrated throughout the fantasy genre as a classic. This is by far, my own personally favorite book I have ever read. It has all the elements of a wonderfully written fantasy. br br Bilbo Baggins, the hobbit, is in a peaceful sort of cozy hole in the Shire, a place where adventures are uncommon and rather unwanted. ... Of these, hydroelectric made up 82% of the renewable resource energygeneration, while the other means all contributed about equally. These relationships can be seen clearly in the table below. Wind turbines raise many different concerns from hydroelectric power sources because of how differently these sources create electricity. The wind turbine operates by transforming the kinetic energy of the wind into electricity using a generator turned by the turbine blades. The most notable difference in performance between these sources is that, unlike hydroelectric dams, which can in impractical or simply impossible in some places in the world, the wind turbine is acceptable anywhere that wind is present. Though wind can be found everywhere, there is a significant issue that the wind does not blow to match the demand for electricity. This means there are three states that these systems can operate in. Should the turbines be permitted to spin freely, they could produce more electricity than is needed, or if it were a calm day, electricity demands could outweigh the amount of electricity produced. There are two slightly methods that will be used, the first method is cyanoacrylate fuming the item that contains the print will be suspended within the tank this is to ensure that the item is exposed to the fumes. This process will take up to 45 minutes once the time is completed the whitish coloured print will appear on the item showing the finger mark/s. The print can be enhance further using a fluorescent dye the fan is then turned on and is then used to circulate the fumes which will then increase the surface contact between the latent print residue and the cyanoacrylate vapours. A heating method will then be applied and the cyanoacrylate will be placed onto a dish and then a heating tool will then be placed onto the dish until it accelerates the polymerization process of the cyanoacrylate however there is a possibility that heating the cyanoacrylate will accelerate the volatility which then in turn will mean a faster vapour release which will then accelerate the recovery of the latent print. Another method that is going to be used within this practical is like the first method, however this current method will be using approximately 25 drops of liquid cyanoacrylate and this will then be placed into a magnetically locked in a shelf above the item that is about to be fumed. The fume cupboard will then be heated to 120 degrees with the humidity being maintained at 80 degrees. Hawthorne adds this particular detail to it at first to explain the loss of Goodman Brown s wife then he connects a deeper meaning to it to show that Goodman Brown recognizes that he is losing his faith. He then speaks of it in the actual text that he has fallen into sin and there is nothing for him to do because he has been tempted. Goodman Brown has accepted his fallen state. The bulb of connective tissue is involved with adaptation. When deformation of these receptors first occurs, there is a burst of electrical activity. If the stimulus is sustained, the bulb then mechanically adjusts to it, and allows the sensory nerve to repolarize. The effect is loss of sensation. As soon as the pattern of deformation changes, the neuron immediately depolarizes again. The overall effect is to increase sensitivity to changes in the pattern of physical contact (touch) with the environment. • 22. Stewardship As A Whole Function Stewardship in Nursing Andreas Munk The concept of stewardship is an ongoing part of nursing. As defined by Merriam Webster dictionary, stewardship is the activity or job of protecting and being responsible for something. In this case that something corresponds to the nursing field as a whole. The concept of stewardship is not thought of as often as it should be. Sometimes stewardship can be confused with religious meanings or often is simply not a topic that is heavily weighted. However stewardship is indeed an intricate concept that is vital for the overall success of nursing. I believe stewardship in nursing is the ability to improve, enhance, and oversee the prosperity of how nursing as a whole functions. Stewardship entails many areas of concern such as safety, increased autonomy from other health care professions, accreditation, economics, and most importantly the overall needs of the patient. As nursing s future continues to change, stewardship is vital in developing life long learning practices and ultimately shaping current and future leaders. In order for standards of practice to support the future, nurse leaders demonstrating stewardship must be able to collaborate to form innovative models of care delivery in order to best serve the patient and work efficiently within the health care system. In this paper I will be discussing what defines stewardship and why it is important in nursing. Next, current issues involving stewardship in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Coach Rake conditions his players and the town to crave glory in football. He himself is described as a great man because he can make others great. He does this by taking the raw talent of his players and shaping it. Even though talent came in cycles (Wednesday, p. 76) with the best players and teams coming in streaks, Rake s greatness, however, was winning with players who were small and slow (Wednesday, p. 76). He works the ones without talent even harder. A decision must be made regarding this investment before the spectrum auction in April. This spectrum auction is crucial to Wind Mobile growing in the wireless industry in Canada. The wirelessindustry in Canada presents a unique opportunity for investment due to the oligopolistic structure and market breakdown. Currently, there are three major players in the industry and there is extensive room for growth and development as an industry and for Wind Mobile itself to gain significant market share. Some of the factors I will consider over the course of this analysis and recommendation include: the wireless communication industry in Canada, growth and competition in the industry and growth of Wind Mobile, and Canada s current economic state. Within these brackets, assessments of the average revenue per user, the growth in subscribers and other indicators of Wind s performance will be analyzed. They will be compared to industry standards and may demonstrate how Wind compares with the Big 3 firms, who benefit from aspects such as economies of scale. I believe my assessment will give Mr. Van Hanebanker a good overall idea of the pros and cons, and considerations he and his colleagues need to consider when making their final decision. Nicholas Kristof explores the position that the evidence that convicted Kevin Cooper, an inmate on death row in San Quentin State Prison, may be unreliable. In 1983, a California professor drove to his neighbor s house to pick up his eleven year old son. He peered through the window to find the house in a state of bloody disarray. Amongst the blood was the bodies of his neighbor s family and the lifeless body of his son. Additionally, the professor Joshua Ryen who was stabbed multiple times, but still clinging to life. Additionally, Kristof suggests evidence as to Cooper s innocence was not given proper scrutiny. Therefore, Kristof alleges Cooper s case, particularly the evidence, should be reviewed. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger denied this request. Although as Attorney General of California, Jerry Brown should little interest in the case, as Governor he is currently reviewing the case. The fallacy of irrelevance, or ignoratio elenchi, is an argument purporting to establish a particular conclusion, but is instead directed to proving another conclusion. I love the idea of being the so called superhero of someone else s life. There are many shapes and sizes of the jobs that registered nurses may do. One threat are problems among the different agencies of the mind (id, ego, superego). This occurs when individual s unconscious wishes and fears are not attuned with behavior expectations of their familymember, caregivers or friends (Berzoff et al., 2011). Another danger is the disturbance of the mental balance due to trauma. Trauma occurs when psychological steadiness is intervened when trying to cope with startling events (Berzoff et al., 2011). These encounters may have prompted for Susana to communicate various forms of defense mechanism, according the case study. One of the mechanisms Susana uses is regression. Regression is adopting behavior from an earlier period of development (Robbins et al., 2012). For example, this becomes clear with the obvious signs of Susana becoming clingier with her mom Jackie along with the hitting of scratching when she tries to stop her from unacceptable behaviors. A reason for this defense mechanism could be due to Jacquie s relationship with her new boyfriend. Susana use to spend time with her mom and falling asleep however this has changed because Jacquie is no longer there on the weekends as she goes out.
