more like a really long jump every time. There tail in black surrounded by white and brown.
White tails can become huge by what they eat. The nutrients goes into there horns and keeps them
getting bigger during the summers. Some white tails can grow drop tines or kickers. Kickers are
usually are of the g2 or g1. Each horn has a name and the first one is G1 and then G2 etc. Most deers

The Book Of Jonah
Historical Background for the Passage:
In the book of Jonah, we see how Jonah ran from God. God allowed Jonah to run, and taught him a
valuable lesson during his three days and nights in the belly of a great fish and again when Jonah was
angered because God did not destroy Ninevah.
Summary and Analysis of Passage:
God spoke to Jonah and told him to go to Nenevah and preach against the sin and wickedness in the
city. Jonah did not want to go to Ninevah and he ran to another city where he boarded a boat that was
about to go to sea. Once departed, God allowed a great wind to cause the sea to become rough. The
captain went below and found Jonah asleep and woke him and asked him how he could sleep during
such turbulence. Then, he asked Jonah to call out to his god to save them.
The crew of the ship wanted to know who was responsible for the storm and cast lots and the lot fell
upon Jonah. Jonah told them that he was running from God and was responsible and to throw him
overboard. The men tried to row to shore first, but it was impossible. The men cried out to God and
asked him not to hold them responsible for Jonah s death. They were unaware ... Show more content

Jonah took off his robe and put on sackcloth and sat in the dirt. The king wanted everyone to cover in
sackcloth and fast. The king asked them to call upon the Lord and give up their wickedness. God had
compassion and did not destroy the city. Jonah became angry because God did not destroy the city and
he wanted God to take his life. God questioned him asking if Jonah had a right to be upset. Jonah went
out of the city and sat down in the sun. God caused a leafy plant to grow next to him and shade Jonah
from the heat which gave comfort to Jonah. But, God caused a worm to eat the plant, taking away
Jonah s shade which angered Jonah. God told Jonah that he showed more concern about the plant that
he provided than he showed over the city of

Biotechnology Controversy
Biotechnology is a broad term. Basically, it is the tools and techniques [opening] new research
avenues for discovering how healthy bodies work and what goes wrong when problems arise (Siedler
para. 1). It covers controversial technology and procedure, like genetic engineering and gene therapy.
It is controversial because it can affect everyone(Jeremy para. 16). As a consequence, the development
of biotechnology has been a slow, quiet progress (Kirsner para. 3) because society may or may not
recognize the repercussion of it. However, scientist like Smith a previous chief for the Cambridge
biotech company, Genzyme continues to develop biotechnology(para. 1). Because biotechnology can

Impact Of Political Connections On Performance And...
Overview: This paper investigates the impact of political connections on performance and financing
decisions of public listed companies. There is a large body of literature documenting the impacts of
political connections on the firms; however most of the studies are focused on a single country; for
example Fisman (2001), Mobarak and Purbasari (2006) on Indonesia, Johnson and Mitton (2003) on
Malaysia, Agrawal and Knoeber (2001) on US and Sapienza (2004) on Italy. Faccio (2006) and
Faccio, Masulis and McConnell (2006) however, used an international sample and a cross country
analysis approach to investigate the phenomenon of political connectivity across the globe. In this
paper, the authors identify the gap in the literature to argue the ... Show more content on

Hypothesis 2: After the connection is established, politically connected firms become more indebted
than their non connected peers. Hypothesis 3: After the connection is established, politically connected
firms use more long term debt than non connected peers. Results show a statistically significant
increase in performance after a firm establishes a political connection. The results also compare
financial leverage, use of long term debt and liquidity ratio three years before and after the
establishment of political connection to report an increase in all these three measures of financing
decisions, thus accepting all three hypotheses. Outline of research method and data analysis: This
research uses the definition of Faccio (2006) to identify politically connected firms. A firm is defined
as politically connected if any one of its officers (Director, CEO, Chairman, Vice chairman or
Secretary) or a large shareholder (holding at least 10% voting rights) is a politician (member of
parliament or cabinet, prime minister or president) or is closely related to a politician or political party.
The research updates and extends the Faccio (2006) databases of company officers and politicians,
and uses procedures and resources similar to those of Faccio (2006) to identify politically connected
firms. The authors then move a step ahead by identifying the date of establishment of political
connection i.e the date when a politician was appointed a board member or when a company

Essay about The Four Agreements
The Four Agreements
The Four Agreements
After reading The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz I realized I ve been living dreams of other
people in my life and not my own. It was decided early on what I should do, what s possible and what
s not. Starting at birth we are told what to think by our parents, schools, and church. Subconsciously,
we have made agreements with them to live our life according to their rules. Don Miguel believes that
these agreements are self limiting and shares four agreements that if we adapt into our lives we will
reach true peace and happiness. The book made so much sense to me, but the hard part is to actually
commit to living out the four agreements. In short, the four agreements are listed below: ... Show more

I finally realized that people will talk about you whether you re doing good or bad.
Don t Make Assumptions. Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want.
Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstanding, sadness and drama. With
just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
We make assumptions because we need explanations (to our questions) to address what s going on in
our own minds. The mind is a powerful thing and our minds have different voices and personality that
can create a lot of confusion. When I make assumptions there is always conflict that follows. I know
now that through communication we can arrive to resolution. This agreement rings true for me and has
caused disappointment and sadness in my life to be at a point in my life that I can ask for what I want.
Always Do Your Best. Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when
you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best and you will avoid
self judgment, self abuse and regret.
I don t always feel as if I did my best I never have, too. In this agreement I know it mentions that your
best is going to change from moment to moment. I would like to experience my best more often. To
truly give my best I have to be moved in some kind of spiritual way. That is the only time I feel as if I
m doing something I want versus something I have to do. The more my life is

Essay about The Urban Legend of the Backseat Murderer
The Backseat Murderer
A good urban legend is like a good movie. It unfolds perfectly and it appeals to the audience s hopes,
fears, and anxieties. The urban legend I am about to describe was told by a first year female biology
major at the University. She is of Indian descent and both her parents work in the biotechnology field.
I collected this story on a Sunday night in the dorm. The fact that it was nighttime helped create the
proper mood for the story. It was told in a dimly lit dorm room. The story was told with an eerie tone
of voice, with emphasis and excitement during certain parts. The final part of the story was told in a
mysterious fashion, which helped with the delivery of the ending.
I heard this story a while ago from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next morning, the woman s car is found on the side of the road in a ditch by a passing driver. He
pulls over to investigate, and the woman is found dead and stabbed multiple times. It was a gruesome
site. The police are called in and they decide to investigate by asking the locals if they knew anything.
When the gas attendant was interviewed, he claimed that he heard about an escaped serial killer on the
radio and said that he saw the killer in the backseat of her car crouching down. When he told the
woman to come inside he was really trying to warn her that the killer was in the backseat of the car
without alerting him.
This story is a popular urban legend. A story similar to this one also was related in Ann Landers
column in 1982 (Joyce). There are many variations to this story. In one version, instead of pulling into
a gas station, the woman keeps driving the car and is followed very closely by another motorist. She
mistakes the motorist as an assailant, but the motorist is really trying to warn her that there is someone
else in the backseat of her car. The motorist repeatedly flashes his lights in order to keep the backseat
murderer from attacking. In yet another version, the backseat murderer is attempting to commit an act
required for his gang initiation, he has to kill the woman and sever a body part to bring back as a
trophy in order to be accepted into his gang. Although there have been no recorded instances of this
story

It was very similar to Pompeian and Nucerian fans when insults were traded back and forth and then
fights broke out. In every sport they have agents or scouts looking for new talent, it was the same in
Rome. They had people search newly conquered lands to choose gladiators to fight for them. In
football there are different positions such as the Quarterback or tight end, as a gladiator you could
choose which type of gladiator you could fight as.
Life outside of the games was rough for most gladiators, but sometimes you would have the greatest
time of your life. If you made enough money fighting and were able to live many matches you could
earn your freedom as a slave. If you were a successful gladiator you would be on top of the world
because you could do almost anything. Many people were mad enough to volunteer to be a gladiator
for fame and glory, but few got to actually have it.
After a while people started to get bored of gladiator fights because they were just not amused and
horrified with these fights. With Christian minded people gladiator events finally came to an end in
404 CE. Emperor Honorius finally closed gladiator schools all together in 409 CE before the final
straw that ended the games. Although some criminals continued the wild animal hunts and fights

Causes And Consequences Of The Great Recession
CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES OF THE GREAT RECESSION The most recent four years of the
turbulent financial execution brought up a larger number of issues than gave answers about reasons for
the Great Recession of 2008 2009. Most business analysts are faulting the land business sector
breakdown and the tailed it budgetary emergency as fundamental driver of the Recession. Be that as it
may, the genuine macroeconomic reason was the change of the national macroeconomic approach
from the Demand backing to Supply bolster methodology amidst 1980s. In this article I am going to
discuss the reasons of the Great Recession and its results. The monetary methodology before 1980 s
has been based on the thoughts of the full job and the wages development as the consequence of the
development of profitability. The full vocation and the wages development have empowered the
increment in the interest for merchandise and administrations. That development has affected the
increment in the supply and has invigorated the organizations to put into new innovations encouraging
the further development of efficiency. The stagflation of 1970 s truly harmed this methodology. In
1980 s the Keynesian model of the monetary development, which depends on the backing of the
development of Aggregate Demand, has been supplanted by the neo liberal model of financial
development based upon the backing of the development the Aggregate Supply. Increment sought
after as it takes after from the established

How far do you agree with the opinion that courtship and marriage are undermined and ridiculed in
The Taming of the Shrew ?
Shakespeare s drama The Taming of the Shrew is set in the Elizabethan era, and marriage and
courtship was very different than how it is in the present. Back then it was the parents who picked
suitors for their daughters. This choice would be final for the daughters but often women rebelled
against the decision as they wanted to choose their own suitors. Romeo and Juliet is an example of
this. In our Taming of the Shrew this is no different as Baptista Minola chooses the suitors in which
marry his daughters.
We first see this undermining of courtship and marriage when Petruchio speaks of his view on ...

Petruchio takes away the whole aspect of falling in love from Katherina as he forces her to marry him
and her father happily abides, will you, nill you, I will marry you . This again makes a charade of
marriage. I agree when Coppélia Kahn says The overt force Petruchio wields over Kate by marrying
her against her will in the first place, and then by denying her every wish and comfort, stamping,
shouting, reducing her to exhaustion, etc., is but a farcical representation of the psychological realities
of marriage... as the audience would definitely find it funny and is a perfect example of Shakespeare s
attempts to ridicule the sanctity of marriage.
As Robert Heilman demonstrates, the taming is best viewed as farce which carries out our desire to
simplify life by a selective anesthetizing of the whole person; man retains all his energy yet never
really gets hurt and this is shown as the drama is a comedy of mocking the institution of marriage.
Another negative outlook against marriage and courtship is when we find of Hortensio s plans to
disguise himself as a schoolmaster well seen in music to instruct Bianca . Lucentio also disguises
himself by swapping clothes and identities with Tranio so that he may woo Bianca secretly. This
shows courtship to be a mockery as when you court someone, you are opening up and showing the
person who you are and that you ve nothing to hide. Hortensio is doing the complete opposite as

All the resources that were made or digged up could ve been sold to other countries but the U.S
mainly focused on making what they needed to improve on. For example, all the iron and steel that the
U.S made was used to improve the railroads for better and safer transportation, and the production of
iron and steel was just easier to make and a big number of iron and steel was made in a smaller
amount of time. This is one of many examples about the products that the U.S used from their own
territory. In the section titled Causes of Industrial Expansion, Lapsansky Werner discusses about the
geography of the U.S stating, first, the nation s physical geography provided an abundance of natural
resources including lumber, coal, and oil that manufacturers relied on to power their factories and
lubricate their machines. (Lapsansky Werner 67). The resources that the captains of industry had
gotten to use for factories or to make more products to sell was all from U.S soil. The U.S never had
to invade a country for a natural resource like today, where the U.S has had multiple wars with
different countries for oil. Most resources were relied on to power the factories and to make new
products to sell.
Another good example that helped the U.S to industrialize rapidly was new technologies. It was also
considered the The Age of Great Invention. So many new things

Bookkeeping and Record Keeping Basics
Bookkeeping and Record Keeping Basics
Adapted from content excerpted from the American Express® OPEN Small Business Network
Proper bookkeeping is important to sustaining and expanding a business. Without it, you run the risk
of hitting cash flow crunches, wasting money, and missing out on opportunities to expand. When you
are devising or revising your bookkeeping routine, remember that the purpose of bookkeeping is to
help you manage your business and to enable tax agencies to evaluate your business activity. As long
as your bookkeeping achieves both of these objectives, it can and should be as simple as possible.
The general guidelines here outline what you must take care of and provide ideas for how to keep your

Keep a log of each category of expense, for tax purposes and write yourself a check for the total. Write
cash reimbursable in your check register to differentiate this from taxable income. Alternatively, you
can keep a petty cash record by writing a check to petty cash and keeping a log of each expense paid
out of petty cash.
Inventory Records
Keeping on top of your inventory records will enable you to prevent pilferage, keep inventory
holdings to a minimum, and track buying trends, among other things.
If you sell a large number of small ticket items for example, as in a stationary store you might want to
use a computer system to track inventory or tie your computer system into your sales by having a POS
(point of sale) inventory system. If you sell larger ticket items you may be able to do it yourself on
paper.
The crucial inventory information you need to capture is: date purchased, stock number of item
purchased, purchase price, date sold, and sale price.
Accounts Receivable
If your products or services are paid for at time of delivery, you will not need an accounts receivable
tracking system. However, if you provide services or products for which people pay you at a later
date, your accounts receivable records keep track of what is owed to you. You can monitor accounts
receivable by holding on to a copy of all invoices sent out or by keeping an accounts receivable
record. Either way, the information you need to capture includes: invoice date,

population was also crumbling from the inside and the political structure was now in jeopardy with the
corrupt emperor Cixi taking control of the dynasty. The internal and external burdens left china
searching for hope and assistance from someone they could trust to take over the reins and get this
once powerful country back on track. Throughout China s history only male emperors were accepted
as ruling bodies, therefore, when Cixi comes to power there was resentment and doubt among the
people. After the death of her son, Tongzhi Emperor, Cixi appoints their fourth year cousin as the next

Many of the Chinese felt this was more deceit within the dynasty because not only of the manipulation
of power, but also because Tongzhi was known for drinking and there was rumor that Cixi encouraged
her son to have many concubines, making him vulnerable to sexually transmitted disease (Russ) and
distracting him from his political duties. This lack of direction within the dynasty left Cixi to rule.
This was an unpopular action due to gender stereotypes at the time,

from his perspective as a soldier in Company H Seventh U.S Calvary. The Battle of the Little BigHorn
was a battle plagued with uncertainty, mystery and accusations of cowardice and desertion because no
white man of general Custer five troops who accompanied him on that June day of 1876 lived to tell
the tale. In this review I am going to talk about this battle from the point of view of I fought with
Custer and the documentary Custer s Last Stand a recreation of the history of General George
Armstrong Custer s life.
The Battle of the Little Bighorn was fought along the ridges, steep bluffs, and ravines of the Little
Bighorn River, in south central Montana on June 25 26, 1876. The combatants were warriors of the
Lakota Sioux, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho tribes, battling men of the 7th Regiment of the U.S.
Cavalry. In 1868, many Lakota leaders agreed to a treaty, known as the Fort Laramie Treaty that
created a large reservation in the western half of present day South Dakota. They further agreed to
give up their nomadic life which often brought them into conflict with other tribes in the region, with
settlers, and with railroad surveys. Agreeing to the treaty meant accepting a more

The Importance Of Cathedrals In David Macaulay s Cathedral
Stories about architecture are stories about people, said David Macaulay, author of Cathedral (4). The
intention of cathedrals was to draw people, and in turn inspire those who came to pray, learn, and
worship (Macaulay, Cathedral 4). Cathedrals remain inspirational in their enormous scale and
overpowering beauty, and that these places of worship are still standing after many centuries show a
level of determination and integrity in those that built the edifices (Macaulay, Cathedral 4). Architect
Vitruvius wrote, All the buildings have two components: The building itself and an idea that its
architecture tried to express (McNamara 6). People build churches because they believed in something
(McNamara 6). In David Macaulay s book, Built to Last, he says the mindset behind building
cathedrals was that of honor and dedication. Macaulay s research noted that, The new cathedral would
be built to the glory of God, and it mattered little that it might take more than one hundred years to
construct it (Macaulay, Built to Last 98). However, there is more to cathedrals than just building
something grand and beautiful to honor God. Churches and cathedrals were built to be packed with
meaning (Taylor 1), and were used to illustrate key points of Christian teaching through the use of
imagery (Taylor 5). Cathedrals were a place to immerse individuals in worship. Religious parents
encourage their children to pray, take them to church and to religious events (Newberg and

Plea Bargains and Mandatory Sentencing Essay
Plea Bargains and Mandatory Sentencing
I would like to take this time to explain my position on Plea Bargains and Mandatory Sentencing. I
will show both pros and cons for each topic, as well as give you my personal brief on which one I
support.
There are two types of plea bargains : The first one is a charge bargain. When the prosecutor allows a
defendant to quot;plead guilty to a lesser charge , or to only some of the charges that have been filed
against him. For example, a defendant charged with burglary may be offered the opportunity to plead
guilty to quot;attempted burglary quot;. A defendant charged with Drunk Driving and Driving with
License Suspended may be offered the opportunity to plead guilty to just the drunk driving ... Show

I do not agree that we should offer someone a sentence bargain. If the individual committed the crime
then he/she should have to do the time. So, when Justice Stewart wrote in Blackledge v. Allison that
plea bargaining can benefit all concerned , I think that is only partly correct. Sure it benefits
defendants, prosecutors, defense attorneys and judges, but what about the victims or their families. I
like what District Attorney Gibbons was trying to do, if it was all or none with no exceptions. The
only time that I feel that plea bargains should not be used is in any murder or rape charge.
The second thing we must look at is mandatory sentencing. I agree that we should have mandatory
sentencing. You can read different studies that it does not work and it takes power away from judges.
Sometimes trial rates and sentencing delays occur because of mandatory sentencing. Just think of how
many repeat offenders we would have if it was not in place. I do think that it is somewhat of a
deterrent for the small time users on the street. Research has shown that it is the low level street
dealers, mules and addicts that this affects most, but if we didn t start with them then where? You must
punish the user just as much as the dealer or kingpins . The dealers would not have any business if it
was not for the users and if we can get to them easier than the main dealers, than I am all for
mandatory sentencing.
As you can see I m for mandatory sentencing and for

Theme Of Humanity In The House Of The Scorpion
In The House of the Scorpion (THS), Nancy Farmer utilises a variety of themes, language features and
even characters to direct her message to the reader. The theme of humanity is mentioned several times
and introduced in a way that gets the audience thinking. The perspective of clones is also a topic
which is portrayed in multiple ways through different characters. The final and most argued theme in
this novel are the ethics of cloning . These three main themes give the story a deeper meaning. They
also allow the reader to dive in and explore these ideas in an immersive manner.
The definition of humanity is portrayed by Farmer in multiple ways through the numerous characters
in the novel. The predominance of the Alacrans look at humanity is similar to a hierarchy. They have
the belief that those with power deserve to be acknowledged and those below are mere tools to be
used. We learn that They work without resting...they don t drink water until someone tell[s] them to.
(pg. 82). This indicates that the eejits are treated harshly without being given any rights. We also know
that most of the eejits are made from illegal immigrants and those who disobey. The scorpion is used
several times throughout the novel to symbolise strength, authority and even evil. Contradictory to this
is the Virgin Statue which symbolises ...all gentle things (pg. 60). This symbol opposes a hierarchy
and rather focuses on equality and love among all people. Celia is always singing songs of the

Analysis Of Honour Killing By Imtiaz Dharker
Commentary: Honour Killing by Imtiaz Dharker
This commentary will be centred on the 2001 piece Honour Killing written by Imtiaz Dharker. In this
commentary I aim to give an in depth analysis and thoughtful critique of lexical and descriptive
devices used within her free verse poem; in doing so I will address the deeper contextual elements
highlighted within her work.
The poem Honour Killing details a woman s struggle for freedom and reclamation of her own identity.
The main focal point of this poem is finding one s self and staying true who you are despite what your
culture or societies tells you to do. Throughout the poem the poet highlights both religious and culture
related issues associated with women in South Asia.
Before analysing the poem, it is important to understand some of the contextual elements within the
piece, such as honour killings and religion. The term honour killing refers to the murder of a relative,
usually a girl or women who is believed to have brought shame upon the family . This definition is
particularly important to this poem as it is the title. This word holds great significance to women in
south Asia as women in Pakistan live in a society which has only recently started condemning this
type of practise. In addition to honour killings being an important factor within the poem the idea of
religion, more specially Islam is referenced. I m taking off this veil is referencing the hijab that is a
religious head dress often worn by Muslim women, for the purpose of concealing their beauty and
retaining modesty.
The main themes within the poem Honour killing are culture, religion and self expression/ freedom.
The writer showcases these themes through the use of metaphors and imagery which are related to the
religions Islam and Hinduism. The use of lexis such as veil and Mangal sutra highlight not only the
theme of religion but also culture as the Mangal sutra is a symbol of marriage and is worn by the bride
until her husband s death. The wearing of a Mangal sutra is a sacred custom within the Hindu faith
which can also be a big cultural tradition. The incorporation of these particular cultural references
allows the reader some insight into the life style and ethnic

Costing and Pricing Decisions
Running head: COSTING AND PRICING DECISIONS
Costing and Pricing Decisions
Cost Allocations
Cost allocation is the process of assigning the indirect costs of producing a product. These indirect
costs may be shared by multiple products. This is where cost allocation comes into play. Indirect costs
can be allocated to products, services and departments. Cost allocation allows a company to calculate
fully cost of their products. This provides them the ability to price products accurately. Three common
costs that need to be considered when allocating costs include joint costs, sunk costs and opportunity
costs (Jiambalvo, 2007).
Joint Costs When at least two products come out of a common input they are considered joint
products. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This helps to avoid making decisions based on sunk costs.
A third way to avoid the sunk cost effect that Roberto, 2009 writes about is to take a look at the
assumptions being made and discover is they are reality. There are assumptions being made about the
company s ability to recover lost project. Taking a look at these assumptions and determining if they
are actually accurate assumptions or just optimism about something that is not possible. The last way
Roberto, 2009 writes about to avoid making decisions based on sunk costs is to determine the
opportunity costs of continuing with the project instead of ending it. Making decisions based on sunk
costs can lead a company to making poor financial decisions and in turn have an effect on being able
to price their future products appropriately.
Opportunity Costs
An opportunity cost is a cost that is caused by making one choice over another. An example of this
would be if you purchased season tickets to the Ravens with your tax return instead of paying your
credit card off with the money. The interest that you continue to pay on your credit card as a result of
not paying it off with your tax return would be considered the opportunity cost (Jiambalvo, 2007).

Jimi Henderson Analysis
David Henderson, an African American poet, wrote the article Jimi Hendrix Deep Within the Blues
and Alive Onstage at Woodstock 25 Years After Death to show how Jimi Hendrix has continued to
influence many people after his untimely death. Additionally, Henderson claims that no other musician
has been able to replicate Hendrix s precise and rapid picking and his recognizance of sound and
noise. Henderson personally knew Hendrix as he previously wrote his book Scuse Me While I Kiss
The Sky to express his opinion on popular black music at the time and as a promise he made to
Hendrix at a nightclub in Manhattan in 1969. It is impossible to deny that Jimi Hendrix has not
continued to be one of the most influential music artists due to his unique way of play[ing] with

It is obvious that schools operations are largely based on political and economic reforms. Students are
encouraged to attend school in order to gain an education and as a result, to qualify in some form to
enter the workforce. Students from a very young age are exposed to hidden messages that suggest life
is equated with achieving well at school. Students are also exposed to a set curriculum content, which
often appears to be related to political movements at any given time. This formal curriculum allows
students to gain knowledge of how and why things are the way they are. The formal education that
students receive at school revolves around the content of the curriculum; however, there remains a
whole hidden curriculum of values and social orientations that students are constantly subject to
alongside this formal learning.
The Hidden Curriculum as it is known, operates more or less on the level of a mini society, making
students accustomed to the regulations, social values and norms of the broader society. As it is stated
by the Oxford Dictionary of Sociology, the hidden curriculum, refers to the way in which cultural

A Review Of The Article Review
Foregrounding/Backgrounding Both of these tools refer to the writer actively drawing attention either
toward or away any given concept. Typically, Calgary Herald journalists gave textual prominence
towards voices and ideas that pushed industry protection and dismissed claims made by
environmentalists. Even throughout my initial reading of the data, emphasis was almost always placed
on the economic costs of climate change policies prior to making mention of the inevitable
environmental consequences. This foregrounding of governmental and industry voices and the
backgrounding of environmental voices is clear in the article published titled Critics Challenge

If an explanation was given, it omitted the fact that policies are being put into place to prevent the
calamitous effects of global warming. Coverage on the economic costs of climate change adaptation
strategies heavily outweighed writing on the environmental harms that would arise out of non action.
By way of illustration, an article about oil production reads TransCanada Corp. s Keystone XL
pipeline and Enbridge Inc. s Northern Gateway project heading west, have been bogged down by
environmental concerns [...] and the lack of pipelines is a further drag on investment intentions in the
Canadian oil patch (Hussain 2015, April 11). Hussain s article refrains from explaining why
environmentalists are having concerns. Within the news reporting discourse, one would reasonably
expect objective and detailed coverage but in this instance, the author s choice of words flagrantly
drops the plethora of reasons why environmentalists would be concerned with the actions of big oil.
Another headline reads, There may be hope for new pipelines after all (Thomson 2015, October 15).
While these examples may not appear erroneous on the surface, upon close inspection on the phrasing
level, both bogged down and drag carry negative connotations that frame the protection of the
environment as a barrier

Feminism In For Colored Girls
Many people of many genders identify as a feminist, most will say that they believe in equal rights for
men and women, and some can tell you about the three waves of feminism. For women of color
however, feminism can tend to be a double edge sword. Many black women and women of color were
forced to choose their cause. Would they fight for their rights as a person of color, or would they
march for their rights as a woman? In circles of color, men would often expect women to abandon
their fight as a woman to support men of color. And In circles of women, white women were the
dominant voice and their brand of feminism only seemed to further the white women s agenda. It is
important when speaking of feminism, we speak about a more critical, inclusive and diverse branch of
feminism. The film that I will be applying feminism and black feminism to will be For Colored Girls
(Perry, Tyler 2010). I will be discussing in which areas feminism applies and where it does not in For
Colored Girls. Feminism is typically defined as the movement for women to have equal rights as men.
Deeper than that however, feminism is a movement that addresses institutional, social and internalized
sexism. This includes issues from the wage gap, rape culture, and gender roles. Mainstream feminism
has three different waves, that include, women s fight for the right to vote, a broader expansion of
equality in the workplace and for reproductive rights, and finally the wave we are currently in The

Lucky Dragon finally died after the six months. After the nuclear weapon exploded, the Godzilla was
waked by the nuclear weapon and started to attack Japan. Like the William Tsutsui said in his book
that the original Godzilla film (Gojira) was more than just a guy in a rubber suit smashing a model of
Tokyo. Some people argue the movie Godzilla does not have a deep meaning because it copied the
idea of other movies and they just want to make money. In my opinion, I have a different opinion
which agrees with what William Tsutsui said in his book because the film Godzilla shows the anti
nuclear, anti war and also tell people that science s both sides for humans which also reflect the
influence of nuclear.
First of all, the movie has a deep meaning of the anti nuclear which is The time honored story of
Godzilla s genesis begins in the spring of 1954 with Tanaka Tomoyuki. (p14). In 1954, Japan was
attacked by America s nuclear and they were afraid of the nuclear weapon because the Godzilla was
waked by nuclear weapon at that time. Then the Godzilla started to attack Japan for several times and
most of them died from the attack. For example, in the movie that Godzilla waked up in the sea by the
nuclear weapon and started to go to the cities hurt Japanese by using fire and trampling on the
buildings. I still remember that one train drove nearby and then the Godzilla just stepped on the train
and also throws some parts of the train away, many people dead from his attack and restless people
just ran away and show the faces that they are scared. Especially at the end of movie, the person said
If we keep on conducting nuclear tests. It s possible that another Godzilla might appear...Somewhere

The Effect Of Media On Young Girls And Their Self Esteem
Megan Jones
Qualitative Research Project
The influence media has on young girls and their self esteem
The media and advertisements are meant to influence our everyday lives in society. Young girls are
being exposed today more than ever to the over sexualized images of women within the media,
advertisements and in pop culture. Young girls are seeing these types of images everyday either in
magazines, television shows, movies or fashion. The research questions I propose to explore: Are the
images that young girls are exposed to within the media influencing their body image and self esteem?
I would also like to study: Could the ways women are exemplified in the media lead young girls to
have a poor self body image? Finally, Can the influences of the media and advertisements lead young
girls to depression or develop eating disorders? The research questions can be examined through
qualitative research. Focus groups and conducting in depth interviews are the best qualitative methods
to use when doing research that deals with people s personal experiences and emotions. In order to
understand how the media could influence young girls attitudes towards body image, you have to see
the world as they do. By doing in depth interviews lets the researcher personally explore the issues
through young girl s perspective. By interviewing the young girls individually, with open ended
questions allow you to hear their personal stories on how the images they see in the media influence

Spirits Of The Forest Analysis
Lemurs are creatures that are solely found on the island of Madagascar and islands off the east coast of
Africa. These species have diversified greatly into niches because of no competition from other
primates (since other primates are not present on the island). In the documentary, Spirits of the forest
(Lemurs), several species physical and behavioral adaptations are described. Some of these species
include the mouse, ring tailed, sifakas, and Indris lemurs. Lemurs are described to resemble dog like
primates whose eyes are faced forward. This physical characteristic contributes to binocular vision,
which helps lemurs gauge the distance between trees. They have strong olfactory capabilities
compared to other primates and bond by grooming one another. Ring tailed lemurs are more terrestrial
than arboreal. Females are the dominant gender in their society. They form close troops of about ten to
twelve, or even possibly more than twenty members of each troop. Daily, ringtails spend part of their
time on the ground in the dry forest and bush. Their physical features include long tails with white and
black rings. Their tails are held high which helps hold the troop together. Ringtails spend a part of

Angela Davis Influences
We have to recognize the intersectionality, the interconnectedness of all of these institutions and
attitudes. Angela Yvonne Davis Angela Davis is one of the most influential women when it comes to
feminism, race, and politics, just to name a few. She has paved the way for many generations of
women to have a voice when they once wouldn t. It is essential to realize that one can t discuss
feminism and black power without discussing Angela Davis. The reason I chose Angela Davis is
because she is a household name that I have always heard, but had never known much of. I think it s
deeply important to understand the impact she s had on the feminist movement, specifically for
women of color.
Angela Yvonne Davis was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 26, 1944 to Sallye Davis and
Frank Davis. Sallye was an elementary school teacher who was faithfully involved in the civil rights
movement. Her father, Frank, owned a gas service station. Davis attended elementary through some of
her high school education in her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. She finished out the rest of her
high school career in New York, where her mother was earning her master s degree. She went to
Elizabeth Irwin High School. At the time, this school was considered progressive, because many of
the teachers there were blacklisted for alleged communist actions they took during the McCarthy era.

Ed O Bannon, a previous UCLA basketball player filed a case looking to sue the NCAA for licensing
players without consent. The NCAA marks their players as amateurs, therefore, they do not allow
paying players. However after the ruling, the NCAA was found to be violating antitrust laws, which
could potentially change the model of the system (Maese). Judge Claudia Wilken ruled an injunction
that schools in the NCAA would be allowed to provide players a trust fund in order to compensate
players for using their names in broadcasting, merchandise or imaging. In 2016, this trust fund will
allow universities to conduct bidding wars for future recruits (Strauss, Tracy). This of course, would
be able to be capped at a certain mark and would not be payable until after the departure of a student
athlete s time at a college or the end of their eligibility (Berkowitz) This court case could potentially
change the way college sports are run.
Marc Edelman, a writer for forbes.com, argues his point in 21 Reasons Why Student Athletes Are

his point on NCAA programs being large revenue businesses and in his opinion should consider
student athletes as employees. With this, he explains that student athletes have to work an average of
43.3 hours a week and oftentimes forced to miss class due to NCAA playoff scheduling (Edelman).

Essay On Why Students Should Get Free Tuition
Why should students with low income get free college tuition? There are a lot of people who don t or
can t go to college because it costs too much. Some students don t go because they see that their
parents are successful without going to college. Since they see that they can be successful without
college, they don t even try to go and spend all that money. Making college tuition free is not just a
benefit for students. Having free tuition is a benefit for the whole world. Some adults that didn t finish
college can go and finish college whenever they want to because they don t have to worry about
tuition. A few reasons why students can t pay college tuition is because they have bad credit, a low
paying job, or having trouble with living situations. I believe that the main reasons why students with
low income should get free college tuition is because students choose work over school, some are
single parents, and the students simply can t afford college.

College tuition gets higher every year so that means the amount of students going to college goes
down every year. A lot of students can t afford college because they were born in poverty. Students
born in poverty could have trouble getting to school because they don t have any type of
transportation. Trying to pay college tuition keeps students further away from having enough money
to buy a car. A lot of students that are just coming out of high school are young minded and want
material things instead of paying thousands of dollars for college. Students need motivation and know
the consequences of not going to college. They need to know that they can get into college without
having to pay thousands of dollars before they even get to

Informative Essay On Roller Coasters
Ride the outdoor adventure roller coaster today it s lightning fast with a great scenery. Outdoor
adventure will accommodate both thrill seekers and riders looking for a fun time. For the thrill seekers
out there you will go above the peaks of our Alpes which will send you rushing down for air. In a
pitch black cave you are flipped upside down in a matter of seconds. Coming bearing out of the cave
you will be seeing a landscape of trees and grass to grazing animals on the mountain side. After you
level out you will go up and over hills and see campers in their tents. Back up the mountain you go but
don t be fooled. You are brought right back down and through another pitch black cave but this time
you are introduced to something different. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Outdoor adventure is a steel roller coaster for a smoother and more enjoyable ride. You will be lifted
up the steep side of the mountain by a chain lift. The beginning of the ride will have a inertia jerk so
be prepared. The drop at the beginning of the ride is 230 feet long with four momentum rolls to make
you the rider dizzy. The pitch black cave has a loop in it so you will have a centripetal force acting on
you in that moment. The whole idea of the cave is to get you disoriented to show you the next thing to
come. We do this by not only a loop but another momentum roll. As you come out of the pitch black
cave you will find yourself on a smooth, large U turn. With enough momentum to get over the next
three hills as you ride past campers. The ride is then re lifted up by chain to another hill that is only 90
feet tall. At the end of the hill you will go through another pitch black cave but at the end which is
exactly the same as the other. When you come out the ride is bolted into the cliff. You continue around
the cliff side near and animatronic climber. Then into another cave with diamonds and gold. The gold
and diamonds are fake of course but they are always fun. You will travel along a real lake side and

Essay On University Budget
Explore Costs The university s budget department analyzed factors and criteria to see which programs
or projects would be budgeted and which ones would not. The factors that the department must
analyze were how the programs or projects supported the mission and strategic plan of the university,
how they created costs for the university, and how they benefited the university. The criteria that
justified the decision to budget the program or project were safety, staffing, maintenance, curriculum,
return on investment, and professional development.

Another goal of the strategic plan was to increase excellence in the programs (Florida State
University, 2017c). Merit based funding would help recruit the brightest students and motivate them to
want to attend the university. High merit students were more enticed to attend an in state college that
provided merit based funding (Domina, 2014).
By providing merit based funding, the university would make a return on investment. There was more
of an increase of revenue for merit based aid compared to aid given to low income students (Weisbrod
et al., 2011). Also, the university would receive preeminent funding from the state that was based on
the preeminent criteria that was mentioned above (The Florida Legislature, 2017). There were other
forms of return on investment. Higher institutions that dispersed merit based funding had a higher
student enrollment and higher number of students receiving a bachelor s degree (Domina, 2014).
Universities needed to keep tuition costs down for students (Patterson, 2016), and merit based funding
was a way to decrease costs to the students who did not qualify for need based funding (Weisbrod et
al., 2011). The funding would come from the Florida State University Foundation, which receives
funding from donations (Florida State University, 2017b). The vision for increasing merit based

The Catholic Teaching On Chastity
The Catholic Teaching of Chastity:
Vow of Chastity
Religion is one of the most studied things in history due to its connection with our daily lives, and
how people choose to live. Catholics have a set of rules, sacraments, and teachings that are in place to
attain eternal life in the Kingdom of God. Vows and vocations go hand in hand with the Catholic
teaching, most Catholics will take a vow of chastity as a way to commit themselves to God or to fulfill
their vocation and complete all seven sacraments in life by living the life Jesus taught us. Chastity is
seen as a virtue that excludes or moderates the indulgence of the sexual appetite, also as a successful
integration of sexuality within the person and thus the inner unity of man in his ... Show more content

Chastity is a gift from God that teaches humans that strengthens the relationship between the mind and
body. The concupiscence that all humans possess will attempt to test the faith and vow that a chaste
person has promised to God to lead to a road of infidelity and the corruption of the mind.

With Friends Like These Dorothy Rowe Summary
Dorothy Rowe explores the nature of how friendships reflect our own natures in her essay With
Friends Like These... Despite powerful concepts such as validation, and jealousy, whirlpool is the
prime piece of diction. The imagery of a deadly whirlpool illustrates the central notion of how
friendships can either relate peacefully to our own sense of selves or shatter our ideas of who we
believe to be our friends. Rowe states, Early in our life our own stream of conscious and unconscious
constructions create, like a real stream, a kind of whirlpool that quickly becomes our most precious
possession, that is, our sense of being a person... Rowe takes a pessimistic approach to the
examination of friendship by utilizing such a strong metaphor

Michel De Montaigne On The Cannibals Analysis
French philosopher Michel de Montaigne s essay On the Cannibals , part of the larger collection of his
complete essays, was written before the term nostalgia officially existed. The term nostalgia was
coined by the Swiss physician Johannes Hofer in 1688 whereas On the Cannibals was first published
in 1580 . Hence there is an absence of theory on nostalgia at the time of Montaigne s writing.
However, this does not mean that Montaigne s work cannot be examined in relation to the concept of
nostalgia. It just means that it is necessary to historicise the concept and not impose modern values on
to the premodern use of the term. Modern nostalgia is usually understood as a sentimental longing for
familiar surroundings or for a period of time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Montaigne wrote On the Cannibals during the period of the French Wars of Religion fought between
the Roman Catholics and the Huguenots. Montaigne, though a Roman Catholic himself, loathed the
fanaticism and violence of these wars and retired from public life to his lands in the Dordogne,
devoting himself to reading and reflection. For Montaigne, cruelty was a deciding factor that
differentiated the French Wars of Religion from previous conflicts. Montaigne s disgust at the cruelty
committed by his own people during these wars is a central theme running throughout On the
Cannibals . The French Wars of Religion called into question the idea that western European society
was the pinnacle of civilisation as well as the idea that humanity is progressive, forever working to
reach the best version of itself. The concept of the Ages of Man, explored earlier, depicts history and
by proxy humanity as in a state of decline in contrast to the progressive view of history that informs
modern nostalgia in which humanity is striving to reach its most perfect state. Montaigne implicitly
questions the assumption that western European society was the most advanced and civilised at the
time by comparing the behaviour and bloody rituals of the Tupinambá people to the behaviour of the
people in his own

The Maison a Bordeaux is a home just outside of France in the late 20th Century designed by Rem
KoolHas . In 1994, a couple approached KoolHaas with a request. The husband had been in a terrible
car crash that left him in a wheelchair and unable to move around his old home. He needed a new one
that would give him the freedom of mobility back. The husband had one unexpected request. He said,
This house is my world; please make it as complex as possible . His other requirement was that there
should be no visual evidence of his disability. According Melhuish, the Maison à Bordeaux is
representative of shifting social and living patterns, she goes on to say that The precise, but open
ended brief, suggested a design for a dwelling which could encompass a whole topography of physical
and synesthetic experience that could compensate for the newly imposed restrictions on the client s
life, and allow for an inhabitation of the house in the imagination as well as by the body . Five years
later this wish became reality . The house is divided into three sections, the upper floor, the middle
floor and the lower floor. The lower floor is partially dug into the ground and excavated to give the
appearance of a cave. It is where the kitchen and the television room ... Show more content on

The Prisoner s Dilemma is an example of game theory; a game of cooperation in which an individual
ends up considering that the best way to maximize their payoff is through non cooperation. The
Prisoner s dilemma is structured in a way that both parties decide to protect themselves from the
players; As a result of following a purely logical thought process to help oneself, both participants find
themselves in a worse state than if they had cooperated with each other in the decision making process
(Investopedia). Through the process of Prisoner s Dilemma, people can predict and understand some
of the possible actions of both parties in an agreement as well as the consequences of their possible
decisions. One example of Prisoner s Dilemma is the hostage massacre incident in 2010 that greatly
affected the international relation of the Philippine and Hong Kong government.
The Manila Hostage Crisis was a massacre incident that took place on August 23, 2010. It occurred
when Rolando Mendoza, a dismissed former national inspector in the Philippine National Police,

The Importance Of Free Will
Freedom is a very powerful word and it can mean so many different things for different people. Some
people would say that free will is the most important thing we have, but what does free will really
mean and how do we know that we are doing something because of our free will? Freedom lies in
expressing your own determinism, not somebody else´s. It is not the determinism that makes a
difference, but instead the ownership. If freedom is what we prefer, it is preferable to be determined
by forces that originate in ourselves and not in others. This is a passage from Free Will written by Matt
Ridley. According to this passage, determinism has a big impact on how our free will works. We
cannot control our determinism since that is something nature ... Show more content on

Ridley is discussing in this passage and throughout the entire text, the connection between free will,
and determinism in a generic aspect and environmental aspect. But what does determinism mean? The
belief that all events are caused by things that happened before them and that people have no real
ability to make choices or control what happens (Merriam Webster´s Learner´s Dictionary).
Understanding the meaning of determinism is vital to understand what Ridley wants to say in this text.
When Ridley states that freedom lies in our own determinism and not somebody else´s, he means that
every human being has its own determinism that is created from a genetic aspect and an
environmental aspect. Our freedom lies in our unique determinism and what is created specifically for
us. When we follow the determinism that has been creating within our self s, then we are truly acting
from our own free will. As he states, it is not the determinism that makes a differences since
determinism is already decided for us regardless of the decisions we make since those decisions has
been made on the foundation of something that happened to us, that we might not even know affected
us. If you want to look at it from the determinism in the genetic point of view it is the same rules that
apply, even if we think we are making a decision based on our free will, it might be because of
personality traits we inherited from our parents. I do agree with the points he is making in this
passage. I really think he is going deep into this subject and exploring how we humans work. If I think
about freedom and was asked to explain the word in one sentence I think I would say something
similar to: Freedom is when we are allowed to act and think on our own without the pressure of any

God allowed Jonah to run, and taught him a valuable lesson during his three days and nights in the belly of a great fish and again when Jonah was angered because God did not destroy Ninevah. Summary and Analysis of Passage: God spoke to Jonah and told him to go to Nenevah and preach against the sin and wickedness in the city. Jonah did not want to go to Ninevah and he ran to another city where he boarded a boat that was about to go to sea. Once departed, God allowed a great wind to cause the sea to become rough. The captain went below and found Jonah asleep and woke him and asked him how he could sleep during such turbulence. Then, he asked Jonah to call out to his god to save them. The crew of the ship wanted to know who was responsible for the storm and cast lots and the lot fell upon Jonah. Hypothesis 3: After the connection is established, politically connected firms use more long term debt than non connected peers. The results also compare financial leverage, use of long term debt and liquidity ratio three years before and after the establishment of political connection to report an increase in all these three measures of financing decisions, thus accepting all three hypotheses. A firm is defined as politically connected if any one of its officers (Director, CEO, Chairman, Vice chairman or Secretary) or a large shareholder (holding at least 10% voting rights) is a politician (member of parliament or cabinet, prime minister or president) or is closely related to a politician or political party. The research updates and extends the Faccio (2006) databases of company officers and politicians, and uses procedures and resources similar to those of Faccio (2006) to identify politically connected firms. Causes And Consequences Of The Great Recession CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES OF THE GREAT RECESSION The most recent four years of the turbulent financial execution brought up a larger number of issues than gave answers about reasons for the Great Recession of 2008 2009. Most business analysts are faulting the land business sector breakdown and the tailed it budgetary emergency as fundamental driver of the Recession. Be that as it may, the genuine macroeconomic reason was the change of the national macroeconomic approach from the Demand backing to Supply bolster methodology amidst 1980s. In this article I am going to discuss the reasons of the Great Recession and its results. The monetary methodology before 1980 s has been based on the thoughts of the full job and the wages development as the consequence of the development of profitability. The full vocation and the wages development have empowered the increment in the interest for merchandise and administrations. That development has affected the increment in the supply and has invigorated the organizations to put into new innovations encouraging the further development of efficiency. The stagflation of 1970 s truly harmed this methodology. In 1980 s the Keynesian model of the monetary development, which depends on the backing of the development of Aggregate Demand, has been supplanted by the neo liberal model of financial development based upon the backing of the development the Aggregate Supply. Shakespeare s drama The Taming of the Shrew is set in the Elizabethan era, and marriage and courtship was very different than how it is in the present. Back then it was the parents who picked suitors for their daughters. This choice would be final for the daughters but often women rebelled against the decision as they wanted to choose their own suitors. Romeo and Juliet is an example of this. Petruchio takes away the whole aspect of falling in love from Katherina as he forces her to marry him and her father happily abides, will you, nill you, I will marry you . This again makes a charade of marriage. I agree when Coppélia Kahn says The overt force Petruchio wields over Kate by marrying her against her will in the first place, and then by denying her every wish and comfort, stamping, shouting, reducing her to exhaustion, etc., is but a farcical representation of the psychological realities of marriage... as the audience would definitely find it funny and is a perfect example of Shakespeare s attempts to ridicule the sanctity of marriage. As Robert Heilman demonstrates, the taming is best viewed as farce which carries out our desire to simplify life by a selective anesthetizing of the whole person; man retains all his energy yet never really gets hurt and this is shown as the drama is a comedy of mocking the institution of marriage. Another negative outlook against marriage and courtship is when we find of Hortensio s plans to disguise himself as a schoolmaster well seen in music to instruct Bianca . Lucentio also disguises himself by swapping clothes and identities with Tranio so that he may woo Bianca secretly. This shows courtship to be a mockery as when you court someone, you are opening up and showing the person who you are and that you ve nothing to hide. Hortensio is doing the complete opposite as ... The intention of cathedrals was to draw people, and in turn inspire those who came to pray, learn, and worship (Macaulay, Cathedral 4). Cathedrals remain inspirational in their enormous scale and overpowering beauty, and that these places of worship are still standing after many centuries show a level of determination and integrity in those that built the edifices (Macaulay, Cathedral 4). Architect Vitruvius wrote, All the buildings have two components: The building itself and an idea that its architecture tried to express (McNamara 6). People build churches because they believed in something (McNamara 6). In David Macaulay s book, Built to Last, he says the mindset behind building cathedrals was that of honor and dedication. Macaulay s research noted that, The new cathedral would be built to the glory of God, and it mattered little that it might take more than one hundred years to construct it (Macaulay, Built to Last 98). However, there is more to cathedrals than just building something grand and beautiful to honor God. Churches and cathedrals were built to be packed with meaning (Taylor 1), and were used to illustrate key points of Christian teaching through the use of imagery (Taylor 5). Cathedrals were a place to immerse individuals in worship. Religious parents encourage their children to pray, take them to church and to religious events (Newberg and ... • 23. Plea Bargains and Mandatory Sentencing Essay Plea Bargains and Mandatory Sentencing I would like to take this time to explain my position on Plea Bargains and Mandatory Sentencing. I will show both pros and cons for each topic, as well as give you my personal brief on which one I support. There are two types of plea bargains : The first one is a charge bargain. When the prosecutor allows a defendant to quot;plead guilty to a lesser charge , or to only some of the charges that have been filed against him. For example, a defendant charged with burglary may be offered the opportunity to plead guilty to quot;attempted burglary quot;. A defendant charged with Drunk Driving and Driving with License Suspended may be offered the opportunity to plead guilty to just the drunk driving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I do not agree that we should offer someone a sentence bargain. If the individual committed the crime then he/she should have to do the time. So, when Justice Stewart wrote in Blackledge v. Allison that plea bargaining can benefit all concerned , I think that is only partly correct. Sure it benefits defendants, prosecutors, defense attorneys and judges, but what about the victims or their families. I like what District Attorney Gibbons was trying to do, if it was all or none with no exceptions. The only time that I feel that plea bargains should not be used is in any murder or rape charge. The second thing we must look at is mandatory sentencing. I agree that we should have mandatory sentencing. You can read different studies that it does not work and it takes power away from judges. Sometimes trial rates and sentencing delays occur because of mandatory sentencing. Just think of how many repeat offenders we would have if it was not in place. I do think that it is somewhat of a deterrent for the small time users on the street. Research has shown that it is the low level street dealers, mules and addicts that this affects most, but if we didn t start with them then where? You must punish the user just as much as the dealer or kingpins . The dealers would not have any business if it was not for the users and if we can get to them easier than the main dealers, than I am all for mandatory sentencing. • 24. Theme Of Humanity In The House Of The Scorpion In The House of the Scorpion (THS), Nancy Farmer utilises a variety of themes, language features and even characters to direct her message to the reader. The theme of humanity is mentioned several times and introduced in a way that gets the audience thinking. The perspective of clones is also a topic which is portrayed in multiple ways through different characters. The final and most argued theme in this novel are the ethics of cloning . These three main themes give the story a deeper meaning. They also allow the reader to dive in and explore these ideas in an immersive manner. The definition of humanity is portrayed by Farmer in multiple ways through the numerous characters in the novel. The predominance of the Alacrans look at humanity is similar to a hierarchy. They have the belief that those with power deserve to be acknowledged and those below are mere tools to be used. We learn that They work without resting...they don t drink water until someone tell[s] them to. (pg. 82). This indicates that the eejits are treated harshly without being given any rights. We also know that most of the eejits are made from illegal immigrants and those who disobey. The scorpion is used several times throughout the novel to symbolise strength, authority and even evil. Contradictory to this is the Virgin Statue which symbolises ...all gentle things (pg. 60). This symbol opposes a hierarchy and rather focuses on equality and love among all people. • 25. Analysis Of Honour Killing By Imtiaz Dharker Commentary: Honour Killing by Imtiaz Dharker This commentary will be centred on the 2001 piece Honour Killing written by Imtiaz Dharker. In this commentary I aim to give an in depth analysis and thoughtful critique of lexical and descriptive devices used within her free verse poem; in doing so I will address the deeper contextual elements highlighted within her work. The poem Honour Killing details a woman s struggle for freedom and reclamation of her own identity. The main focal point of this poem is finding one s self and staying true who you are despite what your culture or societies tells you to do. Throughout the poem the poet highlights both religious and culture related issues associated with women in South Asia. Before analysing the poem, it is important to understand some of the contextual elements within the piece, such as honour killings and religion. The term honour killing refers to the murder of a relative, usually a girl or women who is believed to have brought shame upon the family . This definition is particularly important to this poem as it is the title. This word holds great significance to women in south Asia as women in Pakistan live in a society which has only recently started condemning this type of practise. In addition to honour killings being an important factor within the poem the idea of religion, more specially Islam is referenced. I m taking off this veil is referencing the hijab that is a religious head dress often worn by Muslim women, for the purpose of concealing their beauty and retaining modesty. The main themes within the poem Honour killing are culture, religion and self expression/ freedom. The writer showcases these themes through the use of metaphors and imagery which are related to the religions Islam and Hinduism. The use of lexis such as veil and Mangal sutra highlight not only the theme of religion but also culture as the Mangal sutra is a symbol of marriage and is worn by the bride until her husband s death. The wearing of a Mangal sutra is a sacred custom within the Hindu faith which can also be a big cultural tradition. The incorporation of these particular cultural references allows the reader some insight into the life style and ethnic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Costing and Pricing Decisions Running head: COSTING AND PRICING DECISIONS Costing and Pricing Decisions Cost Allocations Cost allocation is the process of assigning the indirect costs of producing a product. These indirect costs may be shared by multiple products. This is where cost allocation comes into play. Indirect costs can be allocated to products, services and departments. Cost allocation allows a company to calculate fully cost of their products. This provides them the ability to price products accurately. Three common costs that need to be considered when allocating costs include joint costs, sunk costs and opportunity costs (Jiambalvo, 2007). Joint Costs When at least two products come out of a common input they are considered joint products. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This helps to avoid making decisions based on sunk costs. A third way to avoid the sunk cost effect that Roberto, 2009 writes about is to take a look at the assumptions being made and discover is they are reality. There are assumptions being made about the company s ability to recover lost project. Taking a look at these assumptions and determining if they are actually accurate assumptions or just optimism about something that is not possible. The last way Roberto, 2009 writes about to avoid making decisions based on sunk costs is to determine the opportunity costs of continuing with the project instead of ending it. Making decisions based on sunk costs can lead a company to making poor financial decisions and in turn have an effect on being able to price their future products appropriately. Opportunity Costs An opportunity cost is a cost that is caused by making one choice over another. An example of this would be if you purchased season tickets to the Ravens with your tax return instead of paying your credit card off with the money. The interest that you continue to pay on your credit card as a result of not paying it off with your tax return would be considered the opportunity cost (Jiambalvo, 2007). Feminism In For Colored Girls Many people of many genders identify as a feminist, most will say that they believe in equal rights for men and women, and some can tell you about the three waves of feminism. For women of color however, feminism can tend to be a double edge sword. Many black women and women of color were forced to choose their cause. Would they fight for their rights as a person of color, or would they march for their rights as a woman? In circles of color, men would often expect women to abandon their fight as a woman to support men of color. And In circles of women, white women were the dominant voice and their brand of feminism only seemed to further the white women s agenda. It is important when speaking of feminism, we speak about a more critical, inclusive and diverse branch of feminism. The film that I will be applying feminism and black feminism to will be For Colored Girls (Perry, Tyler 2010). I will be discussing in which areas feminism applies and where it does not in For Colored Girls. Feminism is typically defined as the movement for women to have equal rights as men. Deeper than that however, feminism is a movement that addresses institutional, social and internalized sexism. This includes issues from the wage gap, rape culture, and gender roles. In my opinion, I have a different opinion which agrees with what William Tsutsui said in his book because the film Godzilla shows the anti nuclear, anti war and also tell people that science s both sides for humans which also reflect the influence of nuclear. Then the Godzilla started to attack Japan for several times and most of them died from the attack. For example, in the movie that Godzilla waked up in the sea by the nuclear weapon and started to go to the cities hurt Japanese by using fire and trampling on the buildings. I still remember that one train drove nearby and then the Godzilla just stepped on the train and also throws some parts of the train away, many people dead from his attack and restless people just ran away and show the faces that they are scared. Especially at the end of movie, the person said If we keep on conducting nuclear tests. The Effect Of Media On Young Girls And Their Self Esteem Megan Jones Qualitative Research Project The influence media has on young girls and their self esteem The media and advertisements are meant to influence our everyday lives in society. Young girls are being exposed today more than ever to the over sexualized images of women within the media, advertisements and in pop culture. Young girls are seeing these types of images everyday either in magazines, television shows, movies or fashion. The research questions I propose to explore: Are the images that young girls are exposed to within the media influencing their body image and self esteem? I would also like to study: Could the ways women are exemplified in the media lead young girls to have a poor self body image? Finally, Can the influences of the media and advertisements lead young girls to depression or develop eating disorders? The research questions can be examined through qualitative research. Focus groups and conducting in depth interviews are the best qualitative methods to use when doing research that deals with people s personal experiences and emotions. In order to understand how the media could influence young girls attitudes towards body image, you have to see the world as they do. By doing in depth interviews lets the researcher personally explore the issues through young girl s perspective. With enough momentum to get over the next three hills as you ride past campers. The ride is then re lifted up by chain to another hill that is only 90 feet tall. At the end of the hill you will go through another pitch black cave but at the end which is exactly the same as the other. When you come out the ride is bolted into the cliff. You continue around the cliff side near and animatronic climber. Then into another cave with diamonds and gold. The gold and diamonds are fake of course but they are always fun. Merit based funding would help recruit the brightest students and motivate them to want to attend the university. High merit students were more enticed to attend an in state college that provided merit based funding (Domina, 2014). By providing merit based funding, the university would make a return on investment. There was more of an increase of revenue for merit based aid compared to aid given to low income students (Weisbrod et al., 2011). Also, the university would receive preeminent funding from the state that was based on the preeminent criteria that was mentioned above (The Florida Legislature, 2017). There were other forms of return on investment. Higher institutions that dispersed merit based funding had a higher student enrollment and higher number of students receiving a bachelor s degree (Domina, 2014). Universities needed to keep tuition costs down for students (Patterson, 2016), and merit based funding was a way to decrease costs to the students who did not qualify for need based funding (Weisbrod et al., 2011). Despite powerful concepts such as validation, and jealousy, whirlpool is the prime piece of diction. The imagery of a deadly whirlpool illustrates the central notion of how friendships can either relate peacefully to our own sense of selves or shatter our ideas of who we believe to be our friends. Rowe states, Early in our life our own stream of conscious and unconscious constructions create, like a real stream, a kind of whirlpool that quickly becomes our most precious possession, that is, our sense of being a person... Rowe takes a pessimistic approach to the examination of friendship by utilizing such a strong metaphor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Michel De Montaigne On The Cannibals Analysis French philosopher Michel de Montaigne s essay On the Cannibals , part of the larger collection of his complete essays, was written before the term nostalgia officially existed. The term nostalgia was coined by the Swiss physician Johannes Hofer in 1688 whereas On the Cannibals was first published in 1580 . Hence there is an absence of theory on nostalgia at the time of Montaigne s writing. However, this does not mean that Montaigne s work cannot be examined in relation to the concept of nostalgia. It just means that it is necessary to historicise the concept and not impose modern values on to the premodern use of the term. Modern nostalgia is usually understood as a sentimental longing for familiar surroundings or for a period of time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Montaigne wrote On the Cannibals during the period of the French Wars of Religion fought between the Roman Catholics and the Huguenots. Montaigne, though a Roman Catholic himself, loathed the fanaticism and violence of these wars and retired from public life to his lands in the Dordogne, devoting himself to reading and reflection. For Montaigne, cruelty was a deciding factor that differentiated the French Wars of Religion from previous conflicts. Montaigne s disgust at the cruelty committed by his own people during these wars is a central theme running throughout On the Cannibals . The French Wars of Religion called into question the idea that western European society was the pinnacle of civilisation as well as the idea that humanity is progressive, forever working to reach the best version of itself. The concept of the Ages of Man, explored earlier, depicts history and by proxy humanity as in a state of decline in contrast to the progressive view of history that informs modern nostalgia in which humanity is striving to reach its most perfect state. Montaigne implicitly questions the assumption that western European society was the most advanced and civilised at the time by comparing the behaviour and bloody rituals of the Tupinambá people to the behaviour of the people in his own ... The husband had been in a terrible car crash that left him in a wheelchair and unable to move around his old home. He needed a new one that would give him the freedom of mobility back. The husband had one unexpected request. He said, This house is my world; please make it as complex as possible . His other requirement was that there should be no visual evidence of his disability. According Melhuish, the Maison à Bordeaux is representative of shifting social and living patterns, she goes on to say that The precise, but open ended brief, suggested a design for a dwelling which could encompass a whole topography of physical and synesthetic experience that could compensate for the newly imposed restrictions on the client s life, and allow for an inhabitation of the house in the imagination as well as by the body . Five years later this wish became reality . The house is divided into three sections, the upper floor, the middle floor and the lower floor. The Prisoner s dilemma is structured in a way that both parties decide to protect themselves from the players; As a result of following a purely logical thought process to help oneself, both participants find themselves in a worse state than if they had cooperated with each other in the decision making process (Investopedia). Through the process of Prisoner s Dilemma, people can predict and understand some of the possible actions of both parties in an agreement as well as the consequences of their possible decisions. • 49. The Importance Of Free Will Freedom is a very powerful word and it can mean so many different things for different people. Some people would say that free will is the most important thing we have, but what does free will really mean and how do we know that we are doing something because of our free will? Freedom lies in expressing your own determinism, not somebody else´s. It is not the determinism that makes a difference, but instead the ownership. If freedom is what we prefer, it is preferable to be determined by forces that originate in ourselves and not in others. This is a passage from Free Will written by Matt Ridley. According to this passage, determinism has a big impact on how our free will works. We cannot control our determinism since that is something nature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ridley is discussing in this passage and throughout the entire text, the connection between free will, and determinism in a generic aspect and environmental aspect. But what does determinism mean? The belief that all events are caused by things that happened before them and that people have no real ability to make choices or control what happens (Merriam Webster´s Learner´s Dictionary). Understanding the meaning of determinism is vital to understand what Ridley wants to say in this text. When Ridley states that freedom lies in our own determinism and not somebody else´s, he means that every human being has its own determinism that is created from a genetic aspect and an environmental aspect. Our freedom lies in our unique determinism and what is created specifically for us. When we follow the determinism that has been creating within our self s, then we are truly acting from our own free will. As he states, it is not the determinism that makes a differences since determinism is already decided for us regardless of the decisions we make since those decisions has been made on the foundation of something that happened to us, that we might not even know affected us. If you want to look at it from the determinism in the genetic point of view it is the same rules that apply, even if we think we are making a decision based on our free will, it might be because of personality traits we inherited from our parents. I do agree with the points he is making in this passage. I really think he is going deep into this subject and exploring how we humans work. If I think about freedom and was asked to explain the word in one sentence I think I would say something similar to: Freedom is when we are allowed to act and think on our own without the pressure of any ...
