Classical conditioning is a type of learning process described by Ivan Pavlov in which a neutral stimulus becomes associated with an innate reflexive response after being paired with an unconditioned stimulus that elicits the response. Behaviorism is the theory that psychology should only study observable behaviors and exclude mental processes.
The two major characteristics that distinguish classical conditioning from operant conditioning are:
1. Classical conditioning involves involuntary reflexive responses, while operant conditioning deals with voluntary behaviors that can be reinforced or punished.
2. In classical conditioning, the subject passively receives stimuli, whereas in operant conditioning the subject actively emits behaviors that are shaped by their consequences.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
crucial for coordinated efforts across different administrative levels. Advanced technologies like

Changes in vegetation cover refer to variations in the distribution, composition, and overall
structure of plant communities across different temporal and spatial scales. These changes can
occur natural.

2. How To Write An Essay On Ray Charles Robinson s Life
The Life of Ray Charles Raymond Charles Robinson was born on September 23, 1930 in
Albany, Georgia. His mother was a sharecropper, and his father was a mechanic. When Ray was
only five years old, his younger brother George died from drowning in a laundry tub. Not long
after that Ray started to lose his sight, and at the age of 7 he went completely blind. So Ray s
mother sent him to a school in St. Augustine, Florida for the deaf and blind. That is where he
learned to play piano, organ, sax, clarinet, and the trumpet. When Charles was only 15 years old
his mother passed away, and two years after that his father died. Shortly after his mother s death
Ray toured on the Chitlin Circuit in the south. In 1949 he released his his first

3. Rupert Brooke s The Soldier And De Dulce Et Decorum Est
Rupert Brooke s The Soldier and Owen s De Dulce et Decorum Est while written about the same
war are two very different perspectives about the same incident in history. Each piece is told by
a speaker that has a vastly different mindset and perspective than the other as well as from a
different moment within the time frame of the war. One piece seems to have a pre occurrence
perspective while the other has a post experience perspective. After reading each piece it is
obvious to see that while two people can experience the same historical event in time their
experiences and perspectives of the event will not be the same. Brookes The Soldier and Owen s

Owen believes that the consequences of war are well worth it for England. Brooke on the other
hand opposes this and shows the more harsh trials of war. Brooke wrote, Men marched asleep.
Many had lost their boots, but limped on, blood shod (2036). Brooke in contrast to Owen shows
that the war is not worth the suffering of these soldiers, England is not worth the suffering.
Although Owen and Brooke share similar underlying themes of soldiers and war, their
viewpoints on the matter are vastly different. Brooke seems to romanticize the idea of dying for
one s country. That even though the speaker might die it is all worth it and to think about this
sacrifice as a well worth sacrifice. Brooke leads with this outlook of the poem with If I should
die think only this of me: That there is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England ( ).
It is obvious that the speaker believes whole heartedly the sacrifice of their life is well worth it
for the country and those who will continue to be alive and part of England. This poem also
seems to be spoken by an individual that has not yet been to war. There is no mention of the
darker sides of war within this poem as there is in Owen s piece. Death is spoken of without any
gore or vivid details. Instead it is spoken about honorably and the tone is rather light especially
when compared to Owen s piece. The very end of the poem itself conjures up a happier scene Her

4. Teaching For Improved Student Learning
SC3 Demonstrated ability to monitor and assess student learning data and to use this data to
inform teaching for improved student learning. Whenever I begin a unit, I access NAPLAN
results to allow me to gauge my students ability and progress, and adapt my pedagogies
accordingly. I also use TORC testing and On Demand data to provide me with the information
required to ensure my students are able to understand and complete my common formative
tasks. I attempt to provide prompt, useful and constructive feedback to my students. I ask my
students to submit their work using Edmodo, where I can offer assistance and feedback outside
of class times. I present my students with an anonymous work survey using Survey Monkey,
where they have the opportunity to self assess their previous work. I did this, as I wanted to
understand how my students believed they were performing before I assessed them myself. I
gave all of my students a variety of assessment tasks and methods to give them and their parents
with evidence of what students knew and could do, and their particular strengths and weaknesses.
I was then able to report on how far students had progressed during the year, how they compared
to the relevant standards, and where the student s performance needed improvement. This also
allowed me to reflect on my performance and to seek areas where I could improve my teaching.
At all of my schools, I have kept concise, accurate notes on student progress for all classes, to

In the major cities pickpocketing, taxi scams, robbery and drugs have been a huge issue that
affects the quality of life. It is because of all the poor people who do not have anything, so they
try to steal things such as money, so they could make a living. The crime rate has also increased
because of all the carnivals, parades and beaches which have thousands of people which are very
crowded. They have made robbery, gang violence, money laundry and a variety of scams the
way of life in Brazil. President Michel Temer who was elected in August 2016, believes that one
way to lower the crime rate is to first eradicate or decrease the favelas within Brazil. He has
created various programs and improving the structures of the buildings themselves. Brazil is a
federal presidential constitutional which is constructed off a representative democracy. It is
divided into three branches, the executive, the legislative and the judiciary. Most people of Brazil
are pleased with this type of government, however brazilians want them to do more to help

7. You Can Never Predict What Life Is Going At You
You can never predict what life is going to throw at you. Until I was about 9 years old, I lived in
Groves, Texas which was located by the Gulf of Mexico. Groves was a small town, so small that
I had to go to school in Port Arthur, the city right next to Groves. I had a small house and a big
backyard with lots of trees. My dad also kept a small ship and a boat in our yard, and I always
thought about what it might be like to board the ship. My days would be spent playing with my
little sister and hanging out in the yard, exploring every inch of our lawn. One hot September
day, I was in my fourth grade class when kids were being checked out. My teacher explained to

Traffic was terrible. It was more than terrible, we would only move what felt like an inch at a time.
People were running out of gas and there were no gas stations open for miles. My dad kept the air
conditioning off to preserve the battery or gas, and it was blazing hot out. I remember being
drenched in sweat, wondering where we were going to end up. When it came time for me to sleep,
the car was so packed I had to move in awkward positions to get comfortable and use cardboard
boxes as pillows. We could not afford to pull over for potty breaks so my parents had my sister and
I pee in a jar. Gross right? But that was all we could do. There was a countdown to when the
hurricane was coming and we had to get as far away as possible. Even though we traveled for days,
we only got as far as Woodsville which was only about two hours from where I lived. A two hour
trip had been stretched out to days because of the traffic. We were notified to find shelter and we
ended up in a high school gym.
We were given two cots since there were four family members and we huddled our way to the
middle of the gym. There were a lot of people, all just as miserable looking as we were. I was so
exhausted that I fell asleep on the cot about five minutes after arriving to our shelter. I slept so
long and so deep, the hurricane passed over our shelter and I missed it. When I woke up my mom
told me about how the hurricane passed and that we

I realized I wanted to pursue the legal profession very early on in life. I believe I was in 4th

Because of my parent s humble beginnings in the south and being ever so present during the

three sub questions that will assist in answering the major question: (1) What constitutes Deaf
culture? (2) How has American Sign Language impacted the Deaf community? (3) What are the
major issues that are being addressed in Deaf culture today? With these questions answer, it will
give a better understanding as to what Deaf culture is and that it is indeed a culture.
The methodology of my research is based off of internet, books, and a survey. My methodology of

There are also questions that arise such as, what constitutes Deaf culture? There are two other
questions that are very important into explaining the importance of Deaf culture, which is, how
has ASL (American Sign Language) impacted the Deaf community and what are the major
issues that are being addressed in Deaf culture today? This topic is very important to me because
I was raised in the Deaf culture. My entire family is Deaf and have faced many of these questions
that hearing people are unaware about. I feel that it is my job to educate when I have the chance
to do so. By being able to educate at least one person, I have done my job. I do not think there is
enough information out there to reach everyone s awareness of Deaf culture. While
investigating this topic I will be trying to ask at least 30 50 people; Deaf and hearing, about what
they think Deaf culture is. I am very curious as to how many understand Deaf culture and how
many Deaf people actually know what Deaf culture is. Deaf culture has been suppressed for
many years that even the Deaf people might not know what really makes up Deaf culture. I also
what to get the Deaf people s take on what they think are the major issues that are being dealt with
today and also how they think ASL has impacted their communities (History). I know that everyone
will have a different take on these two questions and it is always interesting to see the different
answers. I

11. Decrease In Teen Birth Rate In The United States
Teen birth rates are higher in the United States than any other country. In 2010, over 600,000 teens
were impregnated; however, in following years, the number was reduced by half (Werner, 2014).
These statistics show a decline in teen pregnancy; nonetheless, teen births continue to be an
unsolved epidemic in the United States. There are no simple solutions to end this epidemic, as there
are many contributing factors. For the United States to continue to see a reduction in teen births,
Americans must remain vigilant in attacking some of the leading influences.
One issue Americans must focus on is the lack of parental guidance in households. Some parents
tend to allow their teens to raise themselves without any set rules; thus, giving teens too much
independence before they are ready. Parents must be available and involved in every aspect of
their kids lives. They should know their daily activities, where they are, and with whom they are
hanging around. Parents are children s role models and they have a duty to establish guidelines and
standards to protect their child. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Peer pressure is defined as when people of your age group encourage you to do something or keep
you from doing something, no matter how you feel about it (Pushpa, et al, 2017). Teens often feel
the desire to be accepted by friends. For this reason, they allow their peers to influence their
decision to engage in sexual activity and end up with an unintended pregnancy. A study conducted
by Cromwell and Kipke, revealed, Peer pressure was relatively small when mediated by family
factors, such as parental monitoring (1999). Parental guardians must remain active in a child s

The small building sits in the center of a miniscule neighborhood with a cross atop its fragile

This town, my town, is having visitors from a place of wealth and freedom. The strange
Americans consist of mostly adults, or at least teenagers, but one small boy stands out in the
group. He is about my age, his face covered in some unknown oily substance. In his hand, there is a

In 1986 Charles Hull invented the 3D printer (Lewis). Hull s 3D printer has come a long way
since then, and in all those years 3D printing has finally shifted its way into the public eye. This
bout of fame and recognition for printers though is both a blessing as well as a curse. 3D printers
are finally being given the attention and appreciation they deserve; even President Obama saw their
potential when he gave a $30 million dollar grant to the National Additive Manufacturing
Innovation Institute in Ohio (Lewis). Unfortunately, the 3D printer s new found popularity comes
with a price. Like any budding young star the 3D printer is under constant scrutiny and has lost

Once one creative medium is given free reign from intellectual property laws, what excuse is there
not to make exceptions for all other creative mediums as well? Why should books, photographs,
sculptures, digital artwork, etc. all not be liberated from intellectual property laws as well?
Another fear, held by both companies and consumers alike, is the possibility of counterfeit
products. Individuals would have the power and opportunity to print and sell different products to
buyers who believe they are purchasing and paying for the original and genuine product. Those
who oppose leaving 3D printers unrestricted also anticipate that it could lead to intellectual property
laws being eradicated completely, as the government loses complete control over 3D printing all
together.
The current difference between all other creative mediums and 3D printers at this time is that all
the others are well established and known by the public throughout the world. 3D printing is still
so young, it was only in the 1980 s that engineers began to use 3D printers in their work
(Barnett). Most of the general public have only now begun to learn about the existence and
understand what a 3D printer is. Due to the fact that 3D printing is such a new and up and coming
technology, it still has a very long way to go development wise. 3D printers are far from being
perfect. In order for 3D printing to continue to expand though it needs to be nourished by both
creativity and freedom.

False memories attracted significant attention of psychologists during many decades. People
usually rely on the memories despite the fact that previous researches showed people could be
unpredictably inaccurate in the recollection of detailed facts (Wilson Ross, 2003).The subject of
the false memories and the aspects that lead to development of the false memoryphenomena is very
imperative topic to study since almost every aspect of cognition such as problem solving, attention
or perception relies on memory to some extent. The quality of memory is also vital for some
practical reasons, because many important events influenced by reports from human witnesses. For
instance, the procedure with eyewitness testimonies in courts is still taking place although
scientists have proven the power of suggestive language can lead into memorising something that

Homeless families compose a fraction of the homeless population as they represent roughly a third
of the homeless population in the United States (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development, 2010), and approximately 1.5 million children 1 in 50 youngsters are homeless each
year in the United States (p. 389). These homeless families often struggle to find permanent
residency as a collective unit. There are several types of housing situations available for homeless
families such as temporary housing, transitional housing settings, and shelters, yet the housing
situation for homeless families often causes stress for families as stability and a secure home is
always in question. The lack of stable, consistent housing is the central, defining characteristic of
families experiencing homelessness, distinguishing them and their experience(s) from those with
stable housing who experience other correlated conditions (e.g., poverty) (Kilmer, Cook, Crusto,
Strater, and Haber, 2012, p. 394). Homeless families often seek different types of housing usually
by first reaching out to temporary shelters in emergency situations like domestic violence that often
lead to homelessness, which provide services for children and families. There are many challenges
families encounter in the process of seeking permanent housing.
These homeless families face many adversities and issues when seeking permanent housing like

21. Sports Athletes Should Not Be Better Than Their Opponent
Introduction In the world of sports, competitive athletes are willing to do whatever is necessary to
be better than their opponent. The nature of the competitive drive in some athletes is precisely
what separates the average from the elite. Compared to their novice counterparts, elite athletes
usually have a more extensive knowledge base of sport specific information and are more adept at
using said knowledge efficiently to identify, remember and manipulate relevant information in their
specialist sport (Swann, Moran, Piggott, 2015). In order to achieve max performance, an elite
athlete must be skilled in their craft, meaning they are able to produce the skills needed reliably, on
demand, and with very little luck. Demonstrating their skill ability by maximizing the certainty of
the intended goal achievement, minimizing their energy expenditure (physically and mentally), and
minimizing the time used (Schmidt Lee, 2015). An athletes cognitive performance will ultimately
reflect in their physical capabilities. In today s society, elite athletes and their followers are
consumed with idea of being even bigger, even faster, and even stronger than ever before. To keep
up with the demands elite athletes face its critical to develop new training methods, allowing
athletes to set and surpass new standards of success. The intense demands required of elite level
athletes to excel in their field makes it increasingly difficult to find alternative training methods to

obvious that the occupation is in a constant demand. However there are few dentists out the in
comparison to how many people are in need of oral care. According to Occupational Outlook

majority came about from general dentists at 120,200 and orthodontists 7,700. Within the same
article is expected that employment with increase roughly around 16% through 2018, occurring
for several reasons. One of which is the elderly, as the number of people falling into the category of
65 and above grows, as does the number of people in need of oral care. (Dentists) Another reason is
due to a growing population. The baby boom generation along with all others will in time need
dental care in order to relieve pains and keep a glowing smile. The baby boom will also cause an
increase of jobs because a mass inflation of patients, more practices will need to be created to
satiate the public in search of a dental professional. According to Harvard s Dr. Chester Douglass,

A Freudian Reading of The Rocking Horse Winner D.H. Lawrence s The Rocking Horse Winner
delves into a son s primal instinct of overshadowing his father in order to please his mother sexually
the Oedipus complex. Masturbatory overtones are found throughout the story in an attempt to
hypersexualize money and prove that love has been displaced with wealth in this familial
environment. However, despite Paul s efforts, the money he selflessly earns for his mothercan never

to his own downfall. From a young age, Paul and his siblings have a mutual understanding with
their mother that she does not love them. The narrator states, Nevertheless, when her children were
present, she always felt the centre of her heart go hard... Only she herself, and her children
themselves, knew [the mother s adoration of her children] was not so (1). While this proves
difficult for the children to bear, it proves the most difficult for Paul. When Paul is young, he

25. Culture And The Asian Culture
Culture plays an important role in many of the addictions that people succumb to. As clinicians, it
is important for us to be aware of the implication that culture has on diagnosing addictions and
treating the addiction. In order to treat clients more effectively we should have some knowledge
about specific cultures and their relation to some compulsive behaviors or addictions. For this
assignment, I decided to explore the Asian culture in relation to gambling. Many studies have shown
that the Asian culture account for a significant population seen in casinos and the gambling world.
In this paper I will explore how cultural factors might impact specific behaviors. In addition, I will
examine how a culture may impact the treatment process in order to gain more information for
future work with this population.
Gambling his been around for hundreds of years. Gambling is the wagering of money or something
of material value on an event with uncertain outcome with the primary intent on winning additional
money or material goods. This can be seen in horse racing, card games, and many other avenues
where betting is involved. Gambling addiction is similar to a substance addiction in many ways.
Problematic gambling can involve repeated unsuccessful efforts to control, cut back or stop
gambling, feelings of restlessness, irritability when attempting to stop or cut down gambling habits,
and the diminished ability to resist the impulse to gamble despite serious consequences

Discuss the view that urbanisation in both the developed and the developing world is unsustainable

Urbanisation is the process in which people move from a rural area to an urban area. Levels of
urbanisation are determined by looking at both the population of rural and urban areas. For the
first time ever in history more people live in urban areas than in rural areas. This movement
shows no sign of stopping with a predicted 1.84% increase in people living in urban areas
expected between 2015 and 2020. And this disparity in rural urban growth can be a really

This meant that slum housing and cheap terraced housing was built and factories were situated near
the houses in various inner city areas. This can be seen in British cities such as Manchester, Leeds
and Newcastle.
On the other hand, developing nations face more problems in coping with the surge in urban
population. They can be unprepared for the sheer amount of inward migrants or lack funds to
properly support and educate the new residents. Their urbanisation has happened in more recent
years; and some may argue that it has occurred a lot faster than it did with their developed
counterparts. This speed is most likely due to the technological age that we live in and the ease of
travel that exists in many developing nations. Unlike the urbanisation that happened in Europe
circa 1800, the migrants that are flocking to urban areas don t need many particular skills and the
work is low paid both in and out of cities. The city offers a better prospects to migrants than the

There are inevitable problems that arise with a densely populated urban area. One of these is the

globe and not to just one in particular. All of these rules can most certainly bring your grades up
and make you into a better student. Specifically, they will turn you into a better studier and test
taker. In all, it is beneficial to learn the rules he has set. In Chapter One, his first rule is to go to
class always (11). Dr. Sufka is trying to emphasize even if your friend did take notes, they are
not what you would have done. As individuals, we all make notes differently, because our brains
function diversely. One person may like to just have one full page of notes, which may be fine
for them. Meanwhile, their friend likes to add bullets for better symmetry. Overall, Dr. Sufka
emphasizes the importance of going to class, and he also notes there are not many excuses that

31. The Importance Of Vocation In A Ray Of Darkness
Former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams book A Ray of Darkness, has been influential
on my own journey with call and vocation. Prior church experiences taught me that introspection
and self exploration were too prideful and that it is the Christian s duty to continually pursue
difficult things, in spite of aptitude. The rationale was: if it is difficult, then it must be holy. It was
this very mindset that for many years, kept me from pursuing my calling.
Williams book was formative in my life because he critiques the common view of vocation as a
theatrical casting event, which is also how I once viewed vocation. Williams argues that the God
finding us a part to play perspective of vocation is inherently problematic and leads to resentment
when we do not feel we are being used 1. Rather, in quite ground breaking fashion Williams defines
vocation as the call to be and exist as oneself 2. This frees us
to respond to God s call within our own unique identities. This was a revolutionary thought that
God wants me to be myself. Williams exposes the tendency to hide in unreality and self protection,
saying that vocation is what s left when all the games have stopped. 3
Now that I am moving towards the priesthood, I am actively engaged in discovering myself and
gifts that I possess. This is a unique challenge after years of living up to others expectations of

Of course a prospective sunk cost is different and, as we mentioned earlier, would certainly affect
the firm s decisions looking forward.
How do we know which costs are fixed and which are variable?
Over a very short time horizon say, a few months most costs are fixed.
Over such a short period, a firm is usually obligated to pay for contracted shipments of materials.
Over a very long time horizon say, ten years nearly all costs are variable.
Workers and managers can be laid off (or employment can be reduced by attrition), and much of
the machinery can be sold off or not replaced as it becomes obsolete and is scrapped.

в—Џ amortization Policy of treating a one time expenditure as an annual cost spread out over some

в—Џ marginal cost (MC) extra unit of output.
Amortizing large capital expenditures and treating them as ongoing fixed costs can simplify the
economic analysis of a firm s operation. As we will see, for example, treating capital expenditures
this way can make it easier to understand the tradeoff that a firm faces in its use of labor versus
capital.

35. Gertrude Steins Influence On Modern Culture
Gertrude Stein once said, You can either buy clothes or buy pictures (cite Stein), and it is their
affinity for doing the latter that has made Gertrude, Leo, and Michael Stein revolutionaries in the
world of visual art. American in origin, but long time residents of Paris, the Stein siblings
possessed a drive to change the way the world sees what art is. They were tastemakers and
trendsetters, not afraid to express an appreciation for the avant garde artists that the world had
previously turned away. By selecting pieces based on the art itself, regardless of the artist s
educational success, they broke the longstanding tradition of only welcoming successful Academy
artists. The Steins did not solely collect pieces that piqued their interest;... Show more content on

With this in mind, he and his siblings decided to instead look to discovering pieces from more
younger and unknown artists. They were not afraid to take risks when doing so; when Leo Stein
first saw Henri Matisse s Woman with a Hat, he remarked that the piece was the ugliest daubings
of paint, but after returning to the it time and time again, he found a deeper appreciation of the
piece and purchased it. Purchases like these completely transformed the lives of artists. Matisse s
work was mocked and ridiculed before being discovered by the Stein family, but after Leo
purchased Woman with a Hat, the Stein apartment became a major destination for aspiring artists
who wanted to view the unique piece. Occurrences like these were not uncommon. The Steins
launched the career of a great number of artists, among which are high profile names like Picasso

To fully investigate what environmental influences have particularly affected the virgin group, it is
important to take into consideration just what affects virgin s business environment. And exactly
what is the virgin group is it based as an open or closed business system? The answer is its baseline
fact, that Virgin group is a multi international commercial/ profit seeking organisation, it is based as
an open system as they, are influenced by environmental influences/changes,
eg to customers and technologies and must respond to these environmental influences.
All organisations operate in a wider environment, and how people understand, interpret and interact
with that outside world affects their performance. Each business is unique, so the external forces
that affect them (and which they try to influence) will differ between them. For Richard Branson s
Virgin group, the external environment has constantly been affected by threats and opportunities.
Environmental forces do not affect the practice of their own accord.
These are the factors from the external environment that could affect the Virgin group business.
There are two methods to determine just in which way Virgin group is bring affected by particular
environmental influences:

Capturing animals is cruel no matter the reason. Animals have their own rights, and animals

40. The Implications Of Genetically Engineered Foods
Genetically engineered foods are defined as foods that have had genes from other animals or
plants (hereby referred to as foreign genes) added onto their genetic codes. The genetic engineering
technique can be employed on animals, plants, or on such microorganisms as bacteria (NIH). The
question of whether foods derived from such organisms should be approved for human
consumption is what has raised widespread controversy among many circles. There are those who
view GM foods as the ultimate solution to major challenges of the 21st century while others see
them as a threat to human health and the environment. Notably, the global society is facing major
challenges key among them being foodinsecurity and environmental issues such as global warming
and climate change. Genetically engineered foods present a potential solution to these challenges.
This paper will argue that with adequate research and regulation, genetically engineered foods
should be approved owing to the benefits they present in terms of increased food production and
quality, as well as eliminating the need to compromise the environment in the pursuit of more
cultivation land and higher crop yield.
In my view, we certainly need genetically engineered foods to fight food insecurity that
characterizes the global society. A look at related statistics denotes a population that is facing
serious food security challenges. According to the Food and AgricultureOrganization (FAO), an

41. Primary Effusion Lymphoma
Primary effusion lymphoma (PEL) is caused by clonal expansion of human herpesvirus 8
(HHV8; also known as Kaposi s sarcoma associated herpesvirus) infected B cells (Nador et al.,
1996). HHV8 is an oncogenic herpesvirus that pathogenically infects endothelial cells and B
lymphocytes. Besides, PEL is also implicated in the pathogenesis of Kaposi s sarcoma and
multicentric Castleman s disease (Carbone et al., 2009; Cai et al., 2010).
The replicative cycle of HHV8 exists as latency and lytic replication. During latency only a
restricted subset of viral transcripts is expressed, (including LANA, v FLIP, and v cyclin) that
contribute to HHV8 associated malignancies by the manipulation of cell proliferation and apoptosis

There are ample evidences that show potential chemotherapeutic efficacy of EGCG against cancers
of the skin, lung, breast, colon, liver, stomach and prostate (Kanwar et al., 2012). EGCG is auto
oxidized in both cells and culture media, and the oxidized EGCG induces apoptosis in cells. Recent
studies demonstrate that EGCG can induce the preferential death in cancer cells is due to the cancer
specific induction of ROS (reactive oxygen species) (Min et al., 2012). EGCG was also shown to
block EBV induced transformation and the expression of viral lytic proteins (Chang et al., 2003;
Choi et al., 2009). However, the effects of EGCG on PEL cells and HHV8 replication in PEL cells
have not yet been reported.
In this study, we investigated the antitumor and antiviral activity of EGCG against human primary
effusion lymphoma cells. Our data demonstrate that EGCG induces cell death of PEL cells via a
mechanism involving generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). We also examined the effects
of EGCG on HHV8 replication and reactivation. Even though EGCG induced ROS generation in
PEL cells, it reduced the production of progeny virus from PEL cells without causing HHV8
reactivation. These results suggest that EGCG may represent a novel strategy for the treatment of
HHV8 infection and HHV8 associated

Roethke was a romantic who wrote in a variety of styles throughout his long successful career.
However, it was not the form of his verse that was important, but the message being delivered and
the overall theme of the work. Roethke was a deep thinker and often pondered about and reflected

Roethke married Beatrice O Connell, a former student at Bennington College, in 1953. Roethke
published many volumes of poetry throughout his career. His first volume, Open House,
published in 1941, was filled with images of growth and decay and had short unrhymed verses
(Encarta). According to Allan Seager, most of the reviews were good and those that contained
adverse criticisms tacitly acknowledged that it was the work of a genuine poet and not a beginner
(Contemporary Authors 476). His next two volumes, The Lost Son and Other Poems (1948) and
Praise to the End! (1951) were expressions of his explorations of his interior self. After reading The
Lost Son and Other Poems, Richard Blessing claimed To my mind, the transformation of Theodore
Roethke from a poet of lyric resourcefulness, technical proficiency, and ordered sensibility to a
poet of indomitable creativeness and audacity, difficult, heroic, moving, and profoundly

Children are not able to develop the social skills that they are supposed to when they do not get
out and play with other adolescents or even interact with their own family. Because of the fact
that kids are sitting inside for so long, they often become quite unhealthy. As someone sits there
for a while, they feel the urge to snack on foods. Most often, the foods they are snacking on are
junk food. Since they are looking mindlessly at a screen, children find themselves subconsciously
eating. Junk food such as chips and candy can become addictive and it is difficult to stop eating
once started. Not only does the food they eat cause the children to be unhealthy, but they are also
not getting out and being physically active. Children s developing sensory, motor, and attachment
systems have biologically not evolved to accommodate this sedentary, yet frenzied and chaotic
nature of today s technology. Young children require 2 3 hours per day of active, rough and tumble
play to achieve adequate sensory stimulation to their vestibular, proprioceptive and tactile systems.
Tactile stimulation received through touching, hugging and play is critical for the development of

necessary for children to be physically active and play, as it helps with their physical and mental

From Ignorant Innocence to Enlightened Corruption
Nathaniel Hawthorne was born in 1804, in the city of Salem in Massachusetts. His familial
ancestors were amongst the earliest settlers of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. One of Nathaniel s
grandfathers served as a judge in the 1692 Salem witch trials and had condemned twenty five
women to death. Nathaniel Hawthorn incorporates both his fascination and his horror at his family

England and the Puritans. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story Young Goodman Brown,
Hawthorne expresses his true feelings about the negative beliefs of the puritan religion through a
coming of age story, showing the loss of innocence that every Puritan goes through to reach
maturity. In the story, Hawthorn utilizes duplicity in his naming of the characters. The main

Since I was a little girl my dream was to always play the highest level of softball as possible. I
wanted to be the best pitcher there ever was. The first position I ever learned to play was also

to wear a batting helmet while playing the pitching position. This is for ages normally 5 and

On a visit to India a while back I came upon a fenced empty field that was practically buried in
flimsy white throwaway plastic bags, the kind you carry your purchases home in from the store.
The locals joked that this was the garden where plastic bags grew.
But when I returned to India last month, I was pleasantly surprised to find that now when you
shop in New Delhi, no store will give you a plastic bag for your purchases. They re illegal there, as
well as in many other Indian cities and states.
That puts India well ahead of most of the world when it comes to this particular ecological issue.
Most everywhere in the U.S., for instance, the throwaway plastic bag remains the ubiquitous way
people haul their stuff home from the local store. But those bags never biodegrade into anything
that nature can use again.
Worse, the vast majority of such single use plastic items never get recycled, and even degradable
plastics may not degrade all that well. On top of that, product life cycle assessments, which are on
the verge of becoming more commonly available and used in the marketplace, do not include either
litter or biodegradability as factors.

deeper to represent protection from the storm that is brewing within the interracial community of

the courthouse can only protect it for so long before it gives way to the storm. The courthouse

emotion towards her becomes ironic and shows his instability. When he becomes

52. Advantages And Objectives Of Indian Drug Industry
Chapter 2
Pricing Strategies of Indian Drug Industry
2.1 Introduction:
Price is the value which is paid by the buyer to the manufacturer against the products and services.
It is the value of the product mentioned by the seller to the consumers Pricing decisions are one of
the crucial factors that shapes by cost factors, profit margin, and possibility of sales at different
price levels and the competitor s pricing policy as well as with the number of existing competitors in
the market. Pricing is the most critical element of the marketing mix and firms must make strategic
preferences about how to price their product to achieve their business goals in the best possible
manner by considering the demand and supply relationship. Unlike the three ... Show more content

In present times, loss leaders pricing technique has become the popular method of sales promotion
of product. The purpose of making a product loss leader is to encourage customers to make further
purchases of profitable goods while they are in the shop. Departmental Store or Retailers used to
adopt this strategy for increasing the foot fall in store.
Pricing is a key competitive weapon and a significant part of the marketing mix. If a business
reduced its prices than competitors, new customers may be attracted and existing customers may
become more loyal. Hence using a loss leader pricing can help to divert loyal customers. Using a
loss leader is a short term pricing tactic for any product.
One risk of using a loss leader pricing is that customers can take the opportunity to bulk buy . If the
price discount is sufficiently enough, then it makes sense for customers to buy as much as they can
(assuming the product is not perishable) which leads loss for the manufacturer.

53. Support System In Kewauna s Ambition By Paul Tough
Success: a word that is defined as being good at what you do and how you do it. There are many
elements of success. Some key elements are grit, a support system and commitment. Grit is having
the strength to never give up when things get tough, no matter how tough situations get. Having a
support system is having people by your side helping you get through anything and everything in
the best way they can! Commitment is keeping up with something and sticking with it every step
of the way until the job is done. Kewauna, from Kewauna s Ambition , a portion from How
Children Succeed , written by Paul Tough, showed those three elements: grit by never giving up,
having a support system that included a tutor, family and classmates, and determination while she
tried her hardest to do her best every day while attempting to escape her former lifestyle and
being enrolled in a program. While Marita, from Marita s Bargain , an excerpt from Outliers: The
Story of Success written by Malcolm Gladwell, showed grit also by never giving up, had a support
system in her teachers and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marita showed commitment by staying enrolled at KIPP. She also displayed commitment by even
signing up. Her mom was in the room, and after she told Kewauna she did not have to sign the
paper for her enrollment, Marita signed it! She exited her old lifestyle now that KIPP took over.
Marita, though, stuck it out. Kewauna, in contrast, showed commitment by leaving her old
lifestyle, getting an intervention, and accomplishing OneGoal. ..When she was 15, she was arrested
for punching a police officer. But, after a family intervention, Kewauna started working at school.
With the help of her OneGoal teacher Michelle Stefl, Kewauna graduated high school and enrolled
in college (Gladwell 3). She stuck with everyone who assisted her in her journey by communicating
with them and eventually

54. Boo Radley
People tend to get upset when details get left out when books are turned into movies or plays. To
Kill a Mockingbird is about a family living in a fictional town called Maycomb, Alabama during
the Great Depression. The family consisted of a father, Atticus Finch, a brother, Jem Finch, and a
sister, Jean Louise (Scout) Finch. At this time, racial discrimination existed and caused tension
everywhere. Although, without racial discrimination readers wouldn t be introduced to a shy
character named Arthur (Boo) Radley. Boo Radley was a young man who stayed within the
confinement of his home. He is rumored to be scary, but he actually just chooses to stay inside
away from all the tragedy happening outside. In the play, several details such as the... Show more

Scout is still very young during the book and doesn t seem to quite understand all that is
happening. She thinks that her father is of very old age, but in reality he is not. For instance,
Atticus was feeble: he was nearly fifty (Lee, 118). Additionally, Harper Lee told the book from
Scout s point of view to show a child s perspective, but perhaps Miss Maudie s narration of the
play was of greater importance to the audience.
Changing the narration of the story helps the audience understand, but changing the opening scenes
helps them follow the story. Another difference between the book and the play is that the book
opens with Jem breaking his arm, while the play opens with Its a sin to kill a mockingbird. The
author, Harper Lee, wanted to symbolize the meaning of the mockingbird in the story. In addition,
mockingbirds don t harm humans in anyway. Mockingbirds simply sing for everyone to enjoy
with pleasure. Lee writes That s why it s a sin to kill a mockingbird (119). In the play, they started
with It s a sin to kill a mockingbird to emphasize the importance of the saying throughout the story.
The difference between the opening scenes helps readers follow along, while the difference in the
setting of the fight scene allows the audience to

55. A Study Of African History
Many people think slavery happened after a group of explores from Portuguese started ring the
coast of West Africa, but little do they know African Americans were trading themselves way before
then. Portuguese explorer Prince Henry, known as the navigator, was the first European to
methodically explore Africaand the oceanic to the Indies.[1] Many Europeans thought that Africa s
history was not important. They argued that Africans were inferior to Europeans and they used this
to help justify slavery. However, the reality was very different. A study of African history shows
that Africa was by no means inferior to Europe. As you can see below, the people who suffered
the most from the transatlantic slave trade were civilized, organised and technologically advanced
peoples, long before the arrival of European slavers, trying to suggest they were backward
peoples.[2]
A major advance was the introduction of the caravel in the mid 15th century, a small ship able to
sail windward more than any other in Europe at the time. Evolved from fishing ships designs, they
were the first that could leave the coastal cabotage navigation and sail safely on the open. For
celestial navigation the Portuguese used the Ephemerides, which experienced a remarkable
diffusion in the 15th century. They were astronomical charts plotting the location of the stars over a
distinct period of time. These charts revolutionized navigation, allowing to calculating latitude.
Using the caravel,

56. Uglies Scott Westerfeld Analysis
We all have friends that we would give up everything to save or be with. In Pretties, by Scott
Westerfeld, Tally has to sacrifice her new life as a Pretty(which she has always wanted to
become) in order to save not only herself, but her friends and the whole city. Uglies, also written
by Scott Westerfeld(the first book of the series) Tally has to sacrifice her life in order to turn
pretty to be with Peris, her old friend from Uglyville who turned pretty before her. Both of these
stories are teaching us to sacrifice our lives for our friends, but the author teaches this in different
ways.
In the first book of the series, Uglies, Tally has always wanted to become pretty and be with Peris,
but her new friend Shay has run away to the smoke and the government wants Tally to go and find
Shay. Tally decides to go, because if she did not accept, she would remain ugly... Show more

risk her life she wouldn t have volunteered to take the cure. In Pretties on page 47 Tally chases
down Croy(one of the boys she met at the smoke), because he has the information to where the
Cure is. This is a Revealing Action, because if Tally did not want to find the cure, than she would
ve let Croy escape New Pretty Town, but she decided to chase him down until she got the
location of the cure. This is how the author shows that Tally wants to find the cure, because in
Uglies if she didn t want to find the cure, she would ve not stepped forward and said she would
do it, and in Pretties she wouldn t have chased down Croy and forced him to tell her the

57. An Analysis Of The Scottsboro Trials
The final inspiration for the book is the Scottsboro trials. The Scottsboro trials were a series of
court cases for nine black young men, who were falsely accused of raping two white women
(Anderson). The grueling cases lasted for many years. The verdict of one of the first cases was
the men were guilty. The case eventually made its was up to the Supreme Court where more
evidence was discovered. Which was that the men were riding a train car to Alabama in 1931,
while the women were on a completely separate car (Anderson). The men were claimed to be
guilty again. One of the women on the train stepped forward, and stated that her and her friend were
prostitutes illegally coming into Alabama. They said that they were raped because they wanted

To prepare a wet mount slide you begin with the substance at hand. The specimens studied in the
laboratory using this type of slide were a hay infusion, a yeast suspension, and the mold specimen.
For the hay infusion you begin with placing two drops of the suspension in the center of a clean
microscope slide using a transfer pipet. The specimen must be immediately covered with a cover
glass completing the wet mount slide. The yeast suspension is transferred from the tube to the
slide using a flame sterilized inoculating loop. Immediately cover the specimen with a cover
glass. The stained yeast suspension is prepared the same way except that the suspension is mixed
with a drop of lactophenol cotton blue placed on the slide prior to transferring the yeast. The mold
must be cut from the petri plate and placed on top of the drop of lactophenol cotton blue already
placed on the microscope slide. After it is covered it may be studied under the microscope. 3. State
the scientific name of the yeast studied in the laboratory.
Saccharomyces cerevisiae is the scientific name of the yeast studied in the laboratory. 4. Name the
