Introduction: In this paper we will be discussing the topic of doping in relation to sports. Doping
in sports refers to when an athlete takes performance enhancing drugs to help them get ahead in
the game so to speak. There are many reasons why athletes would find the prospect of doping
appealing and they will be explained further throughout the paper. We will also look at coaches
and how they react to their players doping, the risks and effects of doping and the laws and
policies surrounding the culture of doping. This paper aims to give the basics on doping as well

Blizzard Of 2016
1.0Introduction
1.1 Aim
This report will investigate the USA blizzard of 2016 and about how it was caused, the social,
environmental and economic impacts that is cause and how the disaster was managed. The report
will make recommendations for the future management of blizzards.
1.2 Background
A blizzard is a type of atmospheric hazard and is a long lasting snow storm with intense snowfall
and strong winds. For a blizzard to form, warm air rising and moister is needed to create clouds for
precipitation to occur. As windmoves across a body of water (ocean, lake), some of the water
evaporates, putting water vapour into the air. Warm air rises over cold air by winds pulling the
cold air towards the equator from the North and South poles as ... Show more content on

To prepare for the disaster people had to have enough food and supplies in case the inclement
weather knocks out heat, electricity and telephone service, such as a flashlight with extra
batteries, a portable radio, heating fuel, matches, extra blankets, candles and first aid supplies. It
s important to stock up on non perishable foods that are high energy foods (dried fruit, nuts and
energy bars), canned products and items not need refrigerated and a manual can opener and
bottled water. People who live in blizzard prone areas can build their houses with a sloped roof in
order to avoid accumulation of snow so instead it falls off and its import to protect water pipes

Examples Of Social Class In My Fair Lady
Class and Status in My Fair Lady According to Max Weber, social class is a person s economic
position in a society whereas status refers to one s prestige, popularity and influence and
oftentimes, is not determined by economic worth. For example, a priest may be regarded highly
in society however may not be in the same economic bracket as a doctor or lawyer. The film, My
Fair Lady tells a story about a man, Professor Henry Higgins and his efforts to transform a lower
class woman Eliza Doolittle into a well brought up lady , advising her to change previous
behaviors and image. Henry Higgins, a distinguished language professor of high class challenges
his good friend Colonel Pickering that he cannot fool society into thinking Eliza as a duchess....

Higgins tries to take all of the credit for Eliza s transformation into a lady. In his mind, Eliza did
nothing and without him, she would not have been able to accomplish this task. Mr. Higgins
continues to express his dominance by telling Eliza what to do even though she does not work
for him. Eliza does not like the way that Mr. Higgins treats her and leaves his house, angrily.
After searching for Eliza, Mr. Higgins finally finds her and tells her that he paid for her services
and she needs to finish her job. In this way, he treats her as if she is

Essay On Pertussis
1.0Introduction
This paper discusses the condition pertussis with regard to its prevalence in Australia and the
United States. It also explores prevention methods currently recommended by leading organisations.
Despite a reduction of mortality linked to pertussis, it remains a health concern worldwide (WHO,
2010).
2.0Definition of pertussis
Pertussis, also referred to as whooping cough, is a bacterial infection affecting the upper respiratory
tract (Pluta, Lynm, Glass, 2010). Caused by the Bordetella pertussis bacterium, this disease is most
commonly diagnosed in unvaccinated young children. The infection is characterised by a long
lasting wet cough, paroxysms of coughing, a whooping sound on inspiration (Pluta et al., 2010),
and often vomiting following the coughing (Bentley, Pinfield, Rouse, 2013). The bacteria are
transmitted by airborne droplets released when infected individuals sneeze or cough and,
consequently, the infection is highly contagious (Chivima, 2011). Pertussis has a 7 10 day
incubation period and the disease can last from 6 8 weeks and is therefore notably ... Show more

They can determine whether patients require vaccinations through access to medication records or
inferred diagnosis made when reviewing prescription records (Bach Goad, 2015). Their traditional
role is distributing medication, but they may also provide immunisations, such as the Tdap vaccine
which is supplied by pharmacies in 43 states in the U.S. (Mills, Fensterheim, Taitel, Cannon, 2014).
By supplying vaccines, pharmacies make immunisation more convenient by providing a solution to
a significant barrier for immunisation, this being ease of access (Mills et al., 2014). In addition,
they may also be involved in educating their community on available vaccines and where to go to
obtain them, further reducing this barrier in the local community (Bach Goad,

Ryanair Social Responsibility Case Study
Corporate Social Responsibility, and ethics as a whole, play a fundamental role in Ryanair s
decision making. According to OECD (Organisation for Economic Co operation and
Development, 2001), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is considered as a sustainable
development behavior of business. In order to do so, companies not only take commit themselves
to internal economic development but they also aim to improve the quality of life of the workforce
and their families, as well as the local community and society overall. Companies conduct CSR in
the dimensions of motivating company employees, establishing social welfare, and achieving
economic success (Habisch et al., 2005).
In order to implement a respectful environmental policy, Ryanair... Show more content on

As the Economist states, Ryanair brands itself as Europe s only ultra low cost airline (The
Economist, 2017). In order to attain this level, Ryanair reduce their costs as, for example no
drinks are offered during the flight, planes land in peripheral airports (which cost less) or the
space between the seats are minimal in order to install more of them and therefore take on more
passengers. As a result, Ryanair flights are significantly cheaper than others, so they are very
competitive, and this leads to a war price in the flight industry. Ryanair s message was clear: we
will stop at nothing to give you the lowest fares. However the extent to which these customer
services are reduced still needs to remain ethical. As a result of such little customer attending,
only 22% of their travellers are corporate travellers (The Economist, 2017). Such conditions do
not make this company attracting for businessmen, who need to arrive straight away to their
arrival destination, and who can afford higher priced flights. The company needs to keep a
certain standard of customer service, and this has been an issue faced by Ryanair. However it
depends if the customer is willing to spare money for such a low customer service. The low fares
were well known, but such was the ruthlessness of the check in staff. Many customers began to
believe that Ryanair rather focused on making extra profits rather than on their customer. Indeed,
passengers were charged absurdly high fares to print their tickets within the airports. As a response,
the company began to become nicer (The Economist,

Difference Between Linguistic And Linguistic Studies
In the following essay, I am going to present a comparison between two linguistic studies.
Constructing another Language Usage Based Linguistics in Second Language Acquisition by
Eskildsen and Sources of Linguistic Knowledge in the second language acquisition of English
articles by Ionin, Zubizarreta, and Maldonado are going to be contrasted regarding their theoretical
frameworks, research questions and research designs together with the conclusions reached.
Reading the two studies, certain conclusions regarding their theoretical framework can be drawn.
The first article provides Usage Based linguistics view of language learning as mainly based on
experience and item, with particular formulas used at the beginning and then resulting to general
constructions (e.g. Dabrowska 2000; Tomasello 2003; Dabroswka and Lieven 2005). On the other
hand, Ionin, Zubbizarreta, and Maldonado, study adopts a theoretical framework that primarily
focuses on the aspects of linguistic knowledge, namely the L2 input, L1 transfer and the inherent
linguistic knowledge (Universal Grammar) that influence the acquisition of English articles by
second language learners.
Each of the studies also examine research questions related to their domains. The first one explores
the relationship between the application of Usage Based linguistics and issues in second language
acquisition, as well as how type and token frequencies used by learners can reflect schematicity of
learner language representation

The Awakening And A Doll s House
The Awakening and A Doll s House both share similarities and differences. They were both written,
at the time, toward different audiences. The Awakening was written in 1899, in English, and A Doll
s House was written in 1879, In Norwegian. Yet, despite these differences these works both find
ways to explicate the same themes and ideas of feminism, and the concept of self individuality. The
culture, at the time, did not promote the self individuality of women. The books main ideas,
therefore challenges these notions and illuminate the ideaof freedom as both Edna and Nora, the
central characters, try to find it. Nevertheless, freedom comes at a price and consequences that
cannot be controlled by the individual. Although both books illustrate this theme differently, The
Awakening by Kate Chopinand A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsenboth tell that freedom isn t
necessarily free and that it requires sacrifice.
Both their main characters, Edna and Nora, go through journeys in search for freedom and both
these characters are in conflict with their surroundings. Edna Pontellier, a New Orleans woman
who is married to a businessman, finds it stifling that he is gone for business trips and tries to
find love outside their relationship, and Nora, an upper middle class housewife, is conflicted by
whether or not to leave Torvald. Her marriage to Leonce Pontellier was purely an accident [...] (18

Overpopulation and Environmental Problems
Overpopulation is becoming a leading environmental problem in which resources are becoming
depleted faster than are being created. Hoevel explains, Overpopulation occurs when a population s
density exceeds the capacity of the environment to supply the health requirements of an individual
(Hoevel 1). This means that after a populationhas overused the resources in an area, the
environment will no longer be able to support them, and there lies the problem with overpopulation.
Wenner explains, Sustainability involves living within the limits of the resources of earth,
understanding the distribution of resources and opportunities (Wenner 2). Understanding the earth
s resources and learning how to distribute them is crucial for people to... Show more content on

This could become very bad, especially in poorer countries. Hoevel continues, This creates a mixed
bag of concerns that include susceptibility of young urban populations in poor countries with weak
governments to recruitment for terrorism and conditions of instability (Hoevel 2). If the population
growth continues at this rate, war and terrorism could become a frequent event. This war and
terrorism would ultimately lead to even greater resource use. Because of the equal growth rates
and the continuously growing population, poorer countries may not be able to sustain their
people with their limited amounts of resources. Wenner explains, Undeveloped countries with
large populations also put a strain on the local environment and the limited resources that they
have (Wenner 2). Because there are so many people to sustain in larger populations eventually,
the resources in that area will run out or become extremely difficult to find. Once these resources
become too difficult to gather, more power and energy will be needed in order to extract those
same resources. Alcoforado states, In the last 45 years, the demand for earth s natural resources
has doubled due to rising living standards in rich and emerging countries and increasing world
population (Alcoforado 1). With the rise in population in the last 45 years, Wenner s beliefs are
found to be true. With a

David Foster Wallace The Is Water Summary
One cannot truly change the world without first mastering the art of looking beyond oneself and
into the outside world. This idea of looking beyond oneself has been the focus of ancient and
modern philosophers throughout the world. In The Is Water (2005), a commencement address,
David Foster Wallace, a modern day philosopher, implies that people generally view the worldfrom
a selfish perspective and elaborates on how the world should work to reverse its self centered
ways. Wallace reveals his topic through a series of anecdotes, each highlighting a different way
we are focused on ourselves and then providing a way to view each situation different
perspectives. Wallace s purpose is to point out the faults in thinking only for oneself in order to
emphasize as well as open up to a different ideology of thoughtbut remaining to maintain a
defensive approach without imposing his views on his audience. Although the address was
created for college graduates, his speech is able to apply to a broader audience of readers and
listeners today. Wallace employs a large expanse of literary strategies in order to emphasize his
main purpose. The most prominent of all of his strategies is his use of anecdotes, dispersed
generously throughout his speech. His most recognizable anecdoteholds in it the underlying truth
that will be shared later on in his speech. Wallace begins with two young fish swimming along,
and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says,
Morning, boys, how s the water? And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually
one of them looks over at the other and goes, What the hell is water? (Wallace 1). This anecdote
helps to ease the listener or reader into a comfortable mood to take on the powerful topic
discussed later, that peoples realities are often hard to see and talk about. Anecdotes can be found
scattered throughout the entire speech, though the first is the most recognizable, Wallace
chooses to use a more serious anecdote to convey the intense and serious tone of his topic. He
tells of an average day... you work hard for nine or ten hours, and at the end of the day you re tired,
and you re stressed out, and all you want is to go

Role Of Emotional Disconnection In The Sun Also Rises

Emotional Disconnection in The Sun Also Rises The Sun Also Rises is a novel that narrates the
life of a group of friends after World War I. It communicates both the physical and emotional tolls
that war has on both humans and society. War changes people usually for the worse. In my
analysis I will delve into many of the characters pasts with major focus on Lady Brett s. Lady
Brett s past acts as a catalyst for her lack of emotional connections in The Sun Also Rises by Ernest
Hemingway.
World War I affected many of the characters emotional states in the novel The Sun Also Rises. The

Brett loves Jake but won t be in a relationship with him because of his disability. She lacks the
emotional capacity to be in a relationship in which she cannot express her sexuality. Her going to
Pamplona and being with Romero the bullfighter help satisfy her need for adventure. The
bullfighting represents passion and freedom which Brett has been craving. Jake, unable to have
Brett, is infatuated with her to the point where he is ready to to do anything for her in the events
that it brings her happiness (188). Brett would be the ultimate confirmation of Jake s masculinity.
However, the very thing for which Jake is trying to compensate, his war injury, is the reason Brett

character Jake has to overcome is a completely incorrect

Example Of Naturalistic Observation
A. A naturalistic observation is a form of research that takes place in the participant s own
environment. This could be the participant s workplace or a child s home. Another form of
observation that was also conducted was covert observations is an empirical research were the
participants don t know when they are being observed. Covert methods in general has always been
contentious, on the basis that you can mislead the participant of the study. However, they offer
access to information that would otherwise be nearly impossible. Regarding this, the subjectthat I ve
decided to study was an biracial female that is athletic, roughly 5 7, dark colored hair, brown

The increasing demand of CMC material in Aerospace Industry [5] MANUFACTURING
PROCESS: There are many different processes and techniques used to manufacture CMC. Some
common processes are as follow: COLD PRESSING AND SINTERING The method of cold
press sintering is similar in making monolithic ceramics. The process is done by adding the
ceramic matrix powder with water to create slurry. An organic binder is added to the slurry to
hold the compound together. The adhesive is burnt off during the sintering process. The
composite whiskers are place into the mix where the compound is pressed under high pressure.
Sintering is a process of heating the material below its melting point where the compound is held
in place by self adhesion. In sintering the matrix is subject to shrinkage that could result in
cracking. Altering the sintering temperature and ensuring compatibility between thermal
expansion of matrix and composite materials can avoid cracking. [6] LIQUID SILICON

Perform Ten Resistance Training Exercise
3. Perform ten resistance training exercises and describe which phase of the exercise is the
eccentric, concentric and isometric phase of the movement. At which phase is the muscle the
strongest? Why?
When performing the bench press, lowering the bar to your chest (down phase) this movement is
considered an eccentric contraction. When lifting the bar off your chest (up phase) this movement
is considered a concentric contraction. If we modify the exercise and we bring the weight down to
the chest and hold this position, this fixed position of the bar is considered an isometric contraction.
During the up phase, the pectoralis major is at its strongest because the muscle is contracted at its
full potential, holding and maintaining the weight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the body lowers in this exercise, the chest, shoulders, triceps, and abdominals are all contracted,
which is a concentric contraction. As the body rises back up to the starting position, this movement

down phase and maintaining a muscle contraction on the way back up to the starting position.
Upright rows, when the barbell is raised, this movement is a concentric contraction. During this
contraction, the trapezius are at its strongest in this point in the movement. As the weight is
lowered back to its starting position, this movement downward is an eccentric contraction.
Barbell rows, when the body is about to perform the exercise (preparatory phase) and is griping the

abdominals. When the bar is lowered and brought back to the starting position, this is an eccentric

The Challenges, Solutions, Models, Tools And Tools
Introduction
This paper presents a systematic literature review of the challenges, solutions, models, tools and an
example in Distributed Software Development (DSD). The objective is to collect and systematize
reported knowledge in terms of what are the difficulties in managing DSD projects, what are the
best practices to overcome these difficulties, and how existing models and tools support these
practices.
The DSD is a phenomenon with considerable interest from companies all over the world where the
stakeholders from different national and organizational cultures are involved in developing
software. As part of the globalization efforts currently pervading society, software project team
members have become geographically distributed. However, DSD is technologically and
organizationally complex and presents a variety of challenges to be managed by the software
development team. [1]
As distributed environments have become the norm for software development, coordinating the
efforts of development teams has become one of the biggest challenges faced by the enterprise
today. It is hard to imagine any sizable development project managed without an underlying
software configuration management tool.Teams situated at different geographical locations,
including offshore, collaborate using communication technologies to develop interrelated software
modules that are integrated in shared project workspaces. The software design process involves
many iterative cycles of development

Career In Pediatric Oncology
A Career in Pediatric Oncology Oncology is the study and treatment of cancer. Cancer is a
disease that develops when normal cells in certain parts of the body start to grow abnormally and
continuously. It has been a plague on human life for a while; in fact, the earliest evidence of the
disease was found in ancient Egyptian manuscripts dating back to 1600 BC. It is currently the most
diagnosed disease in the world. Pediatric Oncologyis a subspecialty of the practice that focuses on
the treatment of cancerin children. In earlier days, because information on the disease was limited,
treatment for children was almost inexistent. However, in the 1940s a doctor named Sidney Farber

French Revolution Taxes
In the late 1780s France divided everyone into three social classes or estates. The first estate was
the clergy which was the highest, the second estate was the nobles, and the third estate was the
commoners, or the peasants. France was in a deep financial crisis. King Louis XIV had left
France in debt. The government began to barrow millions of dollars that went to paying the taxes.
Food prices started soaring because of bad harvests which brought hunger to many of the poor
peasants. The government had to increase taxes and reduce expenses to stop this financial crisis but
the nobles and the clergy tried to stop anything to not pay their taxes.
As France was in a huge financial crisis King Louis XIV brought all the clergy, nobles, and us the
commoners to vote by order on how we were going to split the taxes, this was called the meeting
of the estates general. The third estate became upset because we weren t all allowed to vote. This

Taking a Look at a Whooping Cough
What is Whooping cough?
Whooping cough is a bacterial upper respiratory infection that leads to episodes of violent coughing.
The disease got its name because of the characteristic sound that is made when affected individuals
attempt to inhale; the whoop originates from the inflammation and swelling of the voice box that
vibrates when too much air comes in when one breathes after coughing. (Medline plus) Whooping
cough is a very contagious disease. It spreads through close contact that includes a transferring of
oral secretions or respiratory droplets from one person to another. So it s easily spread through the
cough, especially when people are in close contact, like living in the same house with a person
who has whooping cough. It can also spread through sneezes or anything that causes a secretion of
respiratory fluids. (CDC) the people whom can be affected are children who have not been
immunized or people whose last shot of the immunization was done ten or more years previously.
There is evidence that suggests the first outbreaks I whooping cough occurred in the 16th century.
The bacterium that causes the infection was not found until the beginning of the 1900 s.
Why target whooping cough?
Whooping cough is most commonly found in infants. If a child were to obtain whooping cough
within the first three months of his or her life, the infant is highly likely to be killed by the
disease. The reason for this is because of how difficult it is to identify. It starts out

A Research Project On Poseidon Resources
Poseidon Resources is proposing to build a 50 MGD (50 million gallons per day) desalination

environmental groups filing more than a dozen legal battles, including lawsuits and permit appeals,
versus the project. By late 2009, Poseidon had received all of the permits needed to build and
operate the plant and announced it would begin to secure financing. We will go further with the
cost, financing, and partnerships associated with the project.

8% of the cost, is needed for indirect costs associated with water system improvements, including
relining and rehabilitating a 5.5 mile section of the distribution pipeline and modifying treatment

In addition to the capital costs, operating and maintaining these facilities would cost an additional

finance the project, will be finalized in the water purchase agreement that must be approved by
the Water Authority s Board of Directors. Financing will be secured after the water purchase
agreement is signed, and once this is secured, the cost to finance the project will be determined.
The unit cost of water is determined by dividing the annual capital and operating and maintenance
costs by the amount of water of produced. In 2002, Poseidon estimated that the unit cost of water
would be $800 per acre foot. In the initial contracts with local water agencies, Poseidon agreed to
sell desalinated water at the same price that

The Problems With Birds Migrating Birds
There are many issues with aircrafts interacting with wild birds. The birds can get sucked into
the plane engines and harm the plane causing it to lose power and crash. Solutions are very
limited due to birds migrating, you can put stuff in order to keep local birds away, but you can t
with migrating birds. There is research to be done to figure out the best solution to this problem.
There is two ways of looking at this when birds hit planes causing damage to the plane or even
bringing the plane down. Much like, the canadian goosethat hit the plane and brought it down into
the Hudson River. This is a big wildlife conservation what we can do to stop this from
happening. There has been multiple studies done to see if lights will help the birds see the
planes coming so they will move out off the way of the oncoming planes. The other way of
looking at it is the planes harming the way the birds are living. A lot of airports are by where the
birds will nest. Also, the noise of the plane interferes and hurts the roosting and feeding of the
birds. This is a big wildlife management if these birds are being bothered and put out of the way
of where the birds are supposed to live, then there are solutions for new airports being built in
different, birdfree, areas. The top priority is to keep the wild birds safe and to keep them in their
way of life and not to alter the way the birds live.

Disadvantages Of Counterfeit Goods
INTRODUCTION
Counterfeit goods are fake imitations and replicas of products carrying a brand name (Phau Teah,
2009). These goods may include luxury brands from the fashion industry, electronics, software and
pharmaceuticals. Usually these products are of a lower quality as compared to the original.
Companies struggle to protect their goods from being copied since their name, logo, ideas and
designs are copied and sold cheaply in the market. This is unethical and illegal (Chaudhry
Stumpf,2011).
Policy makers of countries have come up with various laws that include heavy fines and
imprisonment for this act. However, these are limited to the supply side of the problem, which
would include the producers, distributers, and marketers of counterfeit goods (Fernandes, 2013).
This problem has grown over 10,000 percent in the past 20 years, partly due to an increase in
consumer demand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some consumers purchase counterfeit luxury brands for their social adjustive function (e.g. to
express themselves and/or to fit in) (Wilcox, Kim Sen, 2009). If the social group the consumer
desires to be a part of, disapproves of such consumption, the perceived social risk involved in the
purchase of counterfeit product reduces consumer intention to purchase counterfeits. Consumers
might refrain from using such goods because they might be afraid of the embarrassment they will
have to face if it is detected that their belonging is not original (Chaudhry Stumpf, 2011). Here, the
consumption or purchase of the counterfeit will cause the individual to lose social capital from
peers or society. When risk is activated consumers are more motivated to avoid negative
consequences than to maximize utility (Mandel, 2003). However, Sinha and Mandel (2008) found
that rising social risks and/or consequences of such utilization may not work for consumers who
have high tolerance for risk (i.e. high optimal stimulation

The Disappearance Of Childhood Summary
The Disappearance of Childhood Summary In The Disappearance of Childhood, Neil Postman
presents his ideas on the social artifact that is childhood. While he states that childhood is a recent
invention, Postman declares that childhood is also disappearing and eroding at an alarming rate.
Postman opens the book by observing that children s clothes are becoming harder to distinguish
from that of an adult, and that this supports the fact that the line between a childand an adult is
becoming blurred. While the Greeks foreshadowed the idea of childhoodand invented the concept of
schools and educating the young, the Romans made the connection between shame and childhood.
Postman points out that there must be shame in order to have childhood, and continues to use this
concept throughout the reading. However when the Roman empire collapses and the Middle Ages
take over, shame disappears along with literacy, education, and as a consequence, childhood. In the
Middle Ages, shame was not a concept, and secrets were not kept from children, because
everything was learned orally. This changes when the printing press is invented. The printing press
lead amplified individualism, which eventually applied to children, allowing them to think logically
and form their own opinions. There developed a division... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Postman argues that because of this, the sense of shame and innocence paired with childhood
disappears, and children begin to develop adult attitudes, adding to the erosion of the defining line
between childhood and adulthood even more. With childhood disappearing, adulthood follows, and
the creation of the adult child is seen. Adults are seen acting more like children, and this is
especially demonstrated in TV. TV does not have to distinguish between child and adult simply
because they both possess the same capacity and skill to watch

In the article, Let s Stop Freaking Out About Artificial Intelligence, authors Eric Schmidt and
Sebastian Thrun argue that artificial intelligence s benefits vastly outweigh the consequences,
and that it can be used to improve our everyday lives. The authors argue that when one self
driving car makes a mistake, all of the self driving cars learn from it (Schmidt Thrun 4), implying
that self driving cars are much safer than cars that are driven manually by humans. They claim
that since people don t learn from other people s mistakes, hundreds of thousands of people die
every year due to traffic accidents because of it. With artificial intelligence, those numbers would
vastly decrease and would save hundred of thousands of lives. In addition, the authors take a much
more optimistic view of A.I, as they write about how the AI revolution could free us from menial,
repetitive, and mindless work (Schmidt Thrun 5), meaning that artificial intelligence can do all of
the dirty work for us, while we do the much easier things. Schmidt and Thrun implies that we would

The Pros And Cons Of Genital Cutting
Genital Cutting
Genital cutting is the act of cutting or removing any part of the genitals or sexual organs for non
medical reasons, and is practiced in many parts of the world. Each culture genital cutting is attached
to assigns it its own traditions, rituals, and meanings; and it is important to examine each instance
in its own cultural context and historical period. When any practice is removed from the latter or
the former, it loses valuable information surrounding it that changes the light and meaning of it. The
most common representation of genital cutting represented is that done to women, particularly in
impoverished areas, or areas portrayed as so, in countries Western settings view to be inferior or
third world, particularly countries on the African continent. However, there are several types of
genital cutting practiced on men, women, and intersexed persons in across multiple continents and
classes.
Thus, female genital cutting, the most commonly covered type of genital cutting logically seems to
be the type to discuss first. Female genital cutting has also been referred to as female genital
mutilation (FGM) and female circumcision, however both of these terms are loaded with different
connotations. Female genital mutilation, as discussed by Christine J. Walley of New York
University in her article Searching for Voices , carries the implicit assumption that parents and
relatives deliberately intend to harm children, (Walley, 407); moreover, mutilation

Social Location Assignment
It is typical of me to preface my reflective assignments with my social location so you, the reader,
may better understand my perspective before I begin with the details of the assignment. I do not
plan to reflect on aspects of my social location until I analyze my values, deriving from aspects
of my upbringing. I was born, and raised, in Saskatoon Saskatchewan Treaty Six, in the early era of
1990 s. In my infancy there were Residential Schools still active and the Sixties Scoop was still in
effect (Niessen, 2017, p. 42). I am from a Ukrainian ancestry, my status was middle class, and I was
from a nuclear familywith very loving and supportive parents. The values instilled in me by my
upbringing has influenced my current job as a Youth Care Worker (YCW) for a residential
program for youth in Saskatoon. My responsibilities of this job are to support youth in their
holistic health, and most importantly, maintain their safety. The individuals I work with have had
traumatic upbringings and are vulnerable to be re traumatized with high risk behaviours. High
risk behaviours will be defined in this piece as being drug use, gang affiliation, running, sexual
abuse, suicide ideation, and suicidal behaviours. I work with six girls who I perceive as suffering
from generational trauma. Like me, these girls are influenced by colonialism, and could be
confused about their identity. They will often run from the safety of the... Show more content on

His parents were going to be worried. He did not know how long he was in the Nomicon, but he

What can he say?
The First Ninja was training him.
Satoru had Randy let out his aggression by hitting targets, some were paper version of robo apes,

Lee Cronk Indian Gift Giving Analysis
Jesse Paner
Anthropology through Film
2/25/17
In his article, Reciprocity and the Power of Giving, Lee Cronk discusses the different cultural
meanings placed upon the act of gift giving. The act of exchanging of gifts has many unique
implications, which are based on the culture of the giver and the recipient. Cronk discusses the idea
of reciprocity, which is the expectance of exchange associated with gift giving. Cronk brings up the
example of Indian Gifts which was a term that white settlers connected to the Native American
people s expectation of receiving an equivalent gift after being given one. This expectation is rooted
into the culture of the Native American people, which was misunderstood by the settlers. The real

Rather than observing the action, it is important to observe the motives behind the act. By
understanding the emotions of the actor, we are then able to gain a greater understanding of the
act and the culture that influenced the actor. While reading this article I couldn t help but reflect
on my own experiences in gift giving. I love giving gifts, for a long time I tried so hard to give
my closest friends the best gifts possible. Not only would I try to give them an object or trinket
that they wanted, I would also try to make the experience of opening the gift as memorable as
possible. I would make gift boxes that were filled with balloons or boxes that would shoot
confetti once opened. I did all this because I thought I was doing it for my friends but after
reelecting about it, I realized that I did it for my own benefit. I did all of these elaborate gifts
with the intention of making myself seem artistic and amazing in my friends eyes. This correlates
to what Cronk wrote about in this article because it shows that no act is done without an
expectance of reciprocity. I initially believed that I was doing something out of kindness but it
seems as though I was also doing it receive gratitude and

Supernatural Elements In Sir Gawain And The Green Knight...
A recurring theme that can be found throughout Arthurian literature is the mention of magic,
mythical creatures, and other supernatural elements. Arthur s own birth is a direct result of this.
He was conceived after his father had used a potion, with the help of Merlin, to disguise himself
as Igraine s husband before sex. In some legends, there is even an Otherworld . The term
Otherworld has Celtic origins and is usually described as a separate plane of existence from the
normal world. Typically, it holds divine creatures or deities and can be entered by crossing a body
of water. In Arthurian legend, the addition of supernatural elements is used to not only advance the
plot, but aid the characters and often explain the unexplainable. Two... Show more content on

Wetlands In Louisiana
Over the last few decades, the loss of Louisiana s coastal wetlands has become a point of concern
because of the vital roles the wetlands play in the environment. They have been destroyed over time
because of natural causes such as hurricanes and weather as well as from the construction of man
made flood control levees. Wetlands serve many purposes within the environment. Not only do the
wetlands effect the residents of southern Louisiana, but they effect the animals that call the
wetlands home as well as the industries that thrive off the wetlands. Since the wetlands have begun

Golden Era Dbq Essay
During the Golden Age of Athens, which was from 499 BC to 400 BC, the people of Athens
relished in the freedoms of a democracy. It was a time of peace and people speaking their minds
without being punished. Although most people were content, several people doubted it at any sign
of weakness. Yet, Athenians still had a fairly good relationship with democracyduring the Golden
Age.
Many, if not most of the Athenians were quite happy with the democracy. It s a huge part of the
Golden Age. The documents from the Golden Age show mainly contentedness with democracy.
Documents 1 and 3 show the happiness that came with the democracy. Document 1 is greatly
important, as arts are part of what defined the Golden Age. It shows two warriors who seem to ...

Those who didn t like democracy were mainly rich nobles who were most likely afraid of losing
power and influence over the people. Or, as Document 6 gives insight to, they were unhappy
during the Peloponnesian War. Document 6 states, Nothing could be found better than the one
man, the best man in governance, (Document 6). It comes from Herodotus in 415 BC, and he
shows a strong preference to a sole ruler, rather than the many people that share power during a
democracy, along with Document 11. Document 11 is important to include because it is not only
from the Golden Age, but it was also in the heart of the Peloponnesian War. It could be due to it
being in the middle of the Peloponnesian War, or it could not, but the timing of it does seem to
mean Herodotus, and possibly others, disliked the democracy of Athens because they were in the
middle of a civil war that they ultimately lost. Others merely criticized the democracy and its
freedoms, as Isocrates, the author of document 3. Document 7 is similar, as its author clearly shows
their displeasure towards the people that are not nobles having the ability to influence the
government. As it is well supported through several documents, it is clear that not all Athenians
were happy with a democratic

which is how Solomon and his father received their last name. While Northup was a child, he had

Anne Hampton. In 1834, he and his wife moved to Saratoga Springs, New York. They later had
three children, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Alonzo. While in upstate New York, Solomon Northup

He was then sent to Edwin Epps and was a slave under him for the next ten years. His owner,
Edwin Epps, put Solomon in charge over the rest of the slaves. Solomon tried many times to
escape, but was never successful. Finally, in June of 1852, he was able to send letters to his
friends and family back home in New York. In these letters, he told them where he was and all
that had happened to him. In November of 1852, there was a widespread search in order to find
Solomon. Solomon was found in the same year. On January 4, 1853, Solomon legally obtained
total freedom. He was then reunited with his family and friends. In 1853, Solomon wrote a
memoir called Twelve Years a Slave. He could not have done this without the help of his friend,

As Christopher Small, it is true that there is no culture ever disappears but it is transformed over
and over again through the new one (Small, On cultures and their fusion 1998). Bossa nova, means
„new trend‟, is a kind of Brazilian music that is transformed by two fusion; samba and strong
American jazzinfluenced (Wikipedia). It was known in 1957 and 1963 especially among young
students and musicians who would like to bring a complicated combination of melody to be
harmony and be more relaxing rather than using powerful voice and strong meaning. According to
Tom Jobim, one of the fathers of bossa nova, said music is the silence between the notes (Just

Bossa nova becomes well known in worldwide; not only in Brazil and North

national people by new technologies (Administrator_v 2006). The transnationalism makes the world

Cultural Appropriation In Anthropology
Anthropology 120 Final Exam
To me, cultural appropriation is when an individual or group take another culture and attempt to
make it their own. In my discussion post I talked about how that around Halloween time, a popular
costume is the sexy little Indian girl , when someone who is not of this culture wears this costume, it
is culturally appropriation. Cultural appropriation usually happens without permissions and there is
usually little to no respect or knowledge of the culture. Cultural appreciation is learning about
another culture with respect. I believe that in order for more cultural appreciation to take place
there need to be less cultural appropriation. However, with that being said, I think that people need
to become more educated on culture, and how to respect cultures. I have learned so much in this
class that I would have never knew if I had not taken this class. The halloween costumes, as one
example, need to go and individuals and companies need to stop marketing sexy little Indian as a
costume.

Methotrexate And Its Effect On Sarcoidosis Essay
Methotrexate and its effect on sarcoidosis Amanda Roll University of Cincinnati Cronstein, B,
Eberle, M, Gruber, H, Levin, R (1991). Methotrexate inhibits neutrophil function by stimulating
adenosine release from connective tissue cells. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences,
88, 2441 2445. Abstract Sarcoidosis is a potentially chronic inflammatory disease/disorder that
causes abnormal tissue clusters in various parts of the body. Depending on where they form, they
can interrupt or prevent function of that specific part of the body. They can form in multiple areas.
Its effects also depend on the person, as some people are asymptomatic. Others use medications,
like corticosteroids, to treat their symptoms. However, methotrexate is not a corticosteroid, but can
be used to treat the symptoms of sarcoidosis; because of this, it is referred to as a steroid sparing
agent. Both types of medications can be used together in therapy. Methotrexate acts to increase the
release of adenosine in the body to inhibit the cell s ability to induce tissue damage, preventing the
autoimmune characteristic of this disease. Knowing this, we re one step closer to determining what
causes the development of sarcoidosis, and can further investigate ways to treat it. Discovering
another form of treatment could possibly help prevent innocent patients from experiencing some
dangers and side effects methotrexate causes, like hepatotoxicity. Introduction Sarcoidosis is

Metaphors In Romeo And Juliet
Shakespeare uses numerous literary devices in his works to educate and draw his audiences. In
Romeo and Juliet, there are many different examples of these devices, some of which are
metaphors and oxymorons. Shakespeare uses these different literary devices in many ways to teach
readers that courtly loveis real.
Shakespeare uses metaphors to show people that the best kind of love is love that never dies.
This scene is after Romeo kills Tybalt, and Juliet wants Romeo to come to her again. Juliet says
For thou wilt lie upon the wings of night/ Whiter than new snow upon a raven s back./ Come,
gentle night; come, loving, black browed night; (3.2.18 20). This passage is a metaphor, because
Juliet is saying that Romeo will come to her at night, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of these examples, come from scenes where someone, normally Romeo, talks about love.
The first example of this, is when Juliet says Beautiful tyrant! Fiend angelical!/ Dove feathered
raven! Wolvish ravening lamb! (3.2.75 76). This passage is an oxymoron, because none of these
things can happen in real life. This passage is important because even though Juliet is referring
to Romeo in all of these oxymorons, and calling him beautiful, but tyrannical. Juliet knows that
she loves Romeo, even though he did kill her cousin. Juliet seems to be unable to accept the fact
that Romeo is a murderer, and that he will be killed because of the Prince s decree. The second
example of an oxymoron, is at the end of the balcony scene, when Romeo is leaving, Juliet says
Parting is such sweet sorrow. (2.2.184). This is an oxymoron because sorrow is not sweet. This
passage is important, because this shows us that Juliet does not want Romeo to leave. This shows
us that even though they have just met, Romeo and Juliet love each other. From this, the audience
can learn that courtly love and love at first sight is real. Shakespeare uses these oxymorons to teach
people that love is real and

The Core Values Of Zappos
The holacratic model has, already, been adopted by for profit and non profit organizations in several
countries. For the purpose of an incubation chamber, Zappos.com has been the first organizational
reality to deploy it. Zappos is an online shoe and clothing shop founded in 1999 and owned by
Amazon since 2009. During the negotiations with Amazon, internal management s primary concern
was to maintain the company culture intact throughout the acquisition process, because a culture
that embraces the idiosyncrasies of each individual is what keeps the firm alive and healthy. Such
an emphasis on employees manifested itself in drawing up the ten core values of the Zappos family:
deliver wow through service;
embrace and drive change;
create fun and a little weirdness;
be adventurous, creative, and open minded;
pursue growth and learning;
build open and honest relationships with communication;
build a positive team and family spirit;
do more with less;
be passionate and determined;
be humble.
The company has, even, its own consulting unit to help others emulate the Zappos way and
folklore. In 2015, Zappos formerly adopted Holacracy. One of Holacracy s most significant

How Does Surface Mining Affect The Environment
Lately, there has been a vast controversy over whether or not surface mining is helpful to the
environment. Surface mining takes less labor while also yielding more coal. However, the
destructiveness of it outweighs any possible benefits. The infrastructure and different types of
pollution associated with the mining phase disturbs the ecosystems by causing problems with
wildlife, water, and even people s homes. In order for there to be a difference in how the surface
miningof coalaffects the environment, there needs to be some sort of action taken which is to
have stricter controls over mining companies such as the Vulcan Materials Company. To begin
with, Vulcan s use of surface mining endangers the environment as a whole as it leaves behind
sundry negative effects. Per ton of coal, around twenty five tons of overburden is excavated (
Surface Mining ). To remove overburden, one must blast through the hard cap rock which, in turn,
leaves the landscape withering. Normal organic matter is prevented from getting into the soil
causing a loss in vegetation and a displacement of wildlife. The lack of vegetation also increases
the rate of erosion. Mining generally encompasses spoil banks, which are long rows of coalesced
soil and rock, and ultimately blocks any outflow. These banks are usually left abandoned; yet, the
efforts being made to reclaim them may only result in an erosion of the soil worsening. Along with
these deleterious outcomes, there also comes the pollutionof

In order to do so, companies not only take commit themselves to internal economic development but they also aim to improve the quality of life of the workforce and their families, as well as the local community and society overall. As the Economist states, Ryanair brands itself as Europe s only ultra low cost airline (The Economist, 2017). In order to attain this level, Ryanair reduce their costs as, for example no drinks are offered during the flight, planes land in peripheral airports (which cost less) or the space between the seats are minimal in order to install more of them and therefore take on more passengers. Ryanair s message was clear: we will stop at nothing to give you the lowest fares. However the extent to which these customer services are reduced still needs to remain ethical. As a result of such little customer attending, only 22% of their travellers are corporate travellers (The Economist, 2017). Such conditions do not make this company attracting for businessmen, who need to arrive straight away to their arrival destination, and who can afford higher priced flights. The company needs to keep a certain standard of customer service, and this has been an issue faced by Ryanair. However it depends if the customer is willing to spare money for such a low customer service. The low fares were well known, but such was the ruthlessness of the check in staff. Many customers began to believe that Ryanair rather focused on making extra profits rather than on their customer. Constructing another Language Usage Based Linguistics in Second Language Acquisition by Eskildsen and Sources of Linguistic Knowledge in the second language acquisition of English articles by Ionin, Zubizarreta, and Maldonado are going to be contrasted regarding their theoretical frameworks, research questions and research designs together with the conclusions reached. Reading the two studies, certain conclusions regarding their theoretical framework can be drawn. The first article provides Usage Based linguistics view of language learning as mainly based on experience and item, with particular formulas used at the beginning and then resulting to general constructions (e.g. Dabrowska 2000; Tomasello 2003; Dabroswka and Lieven 2005). On the other hand, Ionin, Zubbizarreta, and Maldonado, study adopts a theoretical framework that primarily focuses on the aspects of linguistic knowledge, namely the L2 input, L1 transfer and the inherent linguistic knowledge (Universal Grammar) that influence the acquisition of English articles by second language learners. Each of the studies also examine research questions related to their domains. The first one explores the relationship between the application of Usage Based linguistics and issues in second language acquisition, as well as how type and token frequencies used by learners can reflect schematicity of learner language representation ... • 12. The Awakening And A Doll s House The Awakening and A Doll s House both share similarities and differences. They were both written, at the time, toward different audiences. The Awakening was written in 1899, in English, and A Doll s House was written in 1879, In Norwegian. Yet, despite these differences these works both find ways to explicate the same themes and ideas of feminism, and the concept of self individuality. The culture, at the time, did not promote the self individuality of women. The books main ideas, therefore challenges these notions and illuminate the ideaof freedom as both Edna and Nora, the central characters, try to find it. Nevertheless, freedom comes at a price and consequences that cannot be controlled by the individual. Although both books illustrate this theme differently, The Awakening by Kate Chopinand A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsenboth tell that freedom isn t necessarily free and that it requires sacrifice. Both their main characters, Edna and Nora, go through journeys in search for freedom and both these characters are in conflict with their surroundings. Edna Pontellier, a New Orleans woman who is married to a businessman, finds it stifling that he is gone for business trips and tries to find love outside their relationship, and Nora, an upper middle class housewife, is conflicted by whether or not to leave Torvald. • 13. Overpopulation and Environmental Problems Overpopulation is becoming a leading environmental problem in which resources are becoming depleted faster than are being created. Hoevel explains, Overpopulation occurs when a population s density exceeds the capacity of the environment to supply the health requirements of an individual (Hoevel 1). This means that after a populationhas overused the resources in an area, the environment will no longer be able to support them, and there lies the problem with overpopulation. Wenner explains, Sustainability involves living within the limits of the resources of earth, understanding the distribution of resources and opportunities (Wenner 2). This could become very bad, especially in poorer countries. Hoevel continues, This creates a mixed bag of concerns that include susceptibility of young urban populations in poor countries with weak governments to recruitment for terrorism and conditions of instability (Hoevel 2). If the population growth continues at this rate, war and terrorism could become a frequent event. This war and terrorism would ultimately lead to even greater resource use. Because of the equal growth rates and the continuously growing population, poorer countries may not be able to sustain their people with their limited amounts of resources. Wenner explains, Undeveloped countries with large populations also put a strain on the local environment and the limited resources that they have (Wenner 2). Because there are so many people to sustain in larger populations eventually, the resources in that area will run out or become extremely difficult to find. Once these resources become too difficult to gather, more power and energy will be needed in order to extract those same resources. Alcoforado states, In the last 45 years, the demand for earth s natural resources has doubled due to rising living standards in rich and emerging countries and increasing world population (Alcoforado 1). • 14. David Foster Wallace The Is Water Summary One cannot truly change the world without first mastering the art of looking beyond oneself and into the outside world. This idea of looking beyond oneself has been the focus of ancient and modern philosophers throughout the world. In The Is Water (2005), a commencement address, David Foster Wallace, a modern day philosopher, implies that people generally view the worldfrom a selfish perspective and elaborates on how the world should work to reverse its self centered ways. Wallace reveals his topic through a series of anecdotes, each highlighting a different way we are focused on ourselves and then providing a way to view each situation different perspectives. Wallace s purpose is to point out the faults in thinking only for oneself in order to emphasize as well as open up to a different ideology of thoughtbut remaining to maintain a defensive approach without imposing his views on his audience. Although the address was created for college graduates, his speech is able to apply to a broader audience of readers and listeners today. Wallace employs a large expanse of literary strategies in order to emphasize his main purpose. The most prominent of all of his strategies is his use of anecdotes, dispersed generously throughout his speech. His most recognizable anecdoteholds in it the underlying truth that will be shared later on in his speech. Wallace begins with two young fish swimming along, and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says, Morning, boys, how s the water? And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes, What the hell is water? (Wallace 1). This anecdote helps to ease the listener or reader into a comfortable mood to take on the powerful topic discussed later, that peoples realities are often hard to see and talk about. Anecdotes can be found scattered throughout the entire speech, though the first is the most recognizable, Wallace chooses to use a more serious anecdote to convey the intense and serious tone of his topic. He tells of an average day... you work hard for nine or ten hours, and at the end of the day you re tired, and you re stressed out, and all you want is to go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Taking a Look at a Whooping Cough What is Whooping cough? Whooping cough is a bacterial upper respiratory infection that leads to episodes of violent coughing. The disease got its name because of the characteristic sound that is made when affected individuals attempt to inhale; the whoop originates from the inflammation and swelling of the voice box that vibrates when too much air comes in when one breathes after coughing. • 30. A Research Project On Poseidon Resources Poseidon Resources is proposing to build a 50 MGD (50 million gallons per day) desalination facility in the Carlsbad, California. The project has been highly questioned, with local and environmental groups filing more than a dozen legal battles, including lawsuits and permit appeals, versus the project. By late 2009, Poseidon had received all of the permits needed to build and operate the plant and announced it would begin to secure financing. We will go further with the cost, financing, and partnerships associated with the project. • 31. The Problems With Birds Migrating Birds There are many issues with aircrafts interacting with wild birds. The birds can get sucked into the plane engines and harm the plane causing it to lose power and crash. Solutions are very limited due to birds migrating, you can put stuff in order to keep local birds away, but you can t with migrating birds. There is research to be done to figure out the best solution to this problem. There is two ways of looking at this when birds hit planes causing damage to the plane or even bringing the plane down. Much like, the canadian goosethat hit the plane and brought it down into the Hudson River. This is a big wildlife conservation what we can do to stop this from happening. There has been multiple studies done to see if lights will help the birds see the planes coming so they will move out off the way of the oncoming planes. The other way of looking at it is the planes harming the way the birds are living. A lot of airports are by where the birds will nest. Also, the noise of the plane interferes and hurts the roosting and feeding of the birds. This is a big wildlife management if these birds are being bothered and put out of the way of where the birds are supposed to live, then there are solutions for new airports being built in different, birdfree, areas. • 34. Disadvantages Of Counterfeit Goods INTRODUCTION Counterfeit goods are fake imitations and replicas of products carrying a brand name (Phau Teah, 2009). These goods may include luxury brands from the fashion industry, electronics, software and pharmaceuticals. Usually these products are of a lower quality as compared to the original. Companies struggle to protect their goods from being copied since their name, logo, ideas and designs are copied and sold cheaply in the market. This is unethical and illegal (Chaudhry Stumpf,2011). Policy makers of countries have come up with various laws that include heavy fines and imprisonment for this act. However, these are limited to the supply side of the problem, which would include the producers, distributers, and marketers of counterfeit goods (Fernandes, 2013). Some consumers purchase counterfeit luxury brands for their social adjustive function (e.g. to express themselves and/or to fit in) (Wilcox, Kim Sen, 2009). If the social group the consumer desires to be a part of, disapproves of such consumption, the perceived social risk involved in the purchase of counterfeit product reduces consumer intention to purchase counterfeits. Consumers might refrain from using such goods because they might be afraid of the embarrassment they will have to face if it is detected that their belonging is not original (Chaudhry Stumpf, 2011). Here, the consumption or purchase of the counterfeit will cause the individual to lose social capital from peers or society. When risk is activated consumers are more motivated to avoid negative consequences than to maximize utility (Mandel, 2003). • 38. The Disappearance Of Childhood Summary The Disappearance of Childhood Summary In The Disappearance of Childhood, Neil Postman presents his ideas on the social artifact that is childhood. While he states that childhood is a recent invention, Postman declares that childhood is also disappearing and eroding at an alarming rate. Postman opens the book by observing that children s clothes are becoming harder to distinguish from that of an adult, and that this supports the fact that the line between a childand an adult is becoming blurred. While the Greeks foreshadowed the idea of childhoodand invented the concept of schools and educating the young, the Romans made the connection between shame and childhood. Postman points out that there must be shame in order to have childhood, and continues to use this concept throughout the reading. However when the Roman empire collapses and the Middle Ages take over, shame disappears along with literacy, education, and as a consequence, childhood. In the Middle Ages, shame was not a concept, and secrets were not kept from children, because everything was learned orally. This changes when the printing press is invented. The printing press lead amplified individualism, which eventually applied to children, allowing them to think logically and form their own opinions. There developed a division... In the article, Let s Stop Freaking Out About Artificial Intelligence, authors Eric Schmidt and Sebastian Thrun argue that artificial intelligence s benefits vastly outweigh the consequences, and that it can be used to improve our everyday lives. The Pros And Cons Of Genital Cutting Genital Cutting Genital cutting is the act of cutting or removing any part of the genitals or sexual organs for non medical reasons, and is practiced in many parts of the world. Each culture genital cutting is attached to assigns it its own traditions, rituals, and meanings; and it is important to examine each instance in its own cultural context and historical period. When any practice is removed from the latter or the former, it loses valuable information surrounding it that changes the light and meaning of it. The most common representation of genital cutting represented is that done to women, particularly in impoverished areas, or areas portrayed as so, in countries Western settings view to be inferior or third world, particularly countries on the African continent. However, there are several types of genital cutting practiced on men, women, and intersexed persons in across multiple continents and classes. Thus, female genital cutting, the most commonly covered type of genital cutting logically seems to be the type to discuss first. Female genital cutting has also been referred to as female genital mutilation (FGM) and female circumcision, however both of these terms are loaded with different connotations. No one is quite sure how, when, or where Solomon died, On top of not knowing how, when, or where he died, no one quite knows where Solomon was buried either. • 50. Essay On Bossa Nova As Christopher Small, it is true that there is no culture ever disappears but it is transformed over and over again through the new one (Small, On cultures and their fusion 1998). Bossa nova, means „new trend‟, is a kind of Brazilian music that is transformed by two fusion; samba and strong American jazzinfluenced (Wikipedia). It was known in 1957 and 1963 especially among young students and musicians who would like to bring a complicated combination of melody to be harmony and be more relaxing rather than using powerful voice and strong meaning. According to Tom Jobim, one of the fathers of bossa nova, said music is the silence between the notes (Just landed 2016). The interesting point is „where and how did Bossa Nova start?‟ The paper... It shows how influence for a musical style developed in a peripheral country as Brazil was introduced in a large and central market place as the American (New World Encyclopedia). Bossa nova becomes well known in worldwide; not only in Brazil and North America. It is because of convenient communication and easier crossing borders among different national people by new technologies (Administrator_v 2006). The transnationalism makes the world be „hybridization‟ and deterritorialization because places are reproducing and transformation in the appropriate way (Appadurai 1990). In the 21 st century, people in the global world tend to appreciate and enjoy the music purely without consciousness of the history and the transnational from the origins of it. Moreover, most of the current music is produced for business term without recognition of the original history of it. The fascinating history of the music is faded away (Reed 2013). • 52. Cultural Appropriation In Anthropology Anthropology 120 Final Exam To me, cultural appropriation is when an individual or group take another culture and attempt to make it their own. In my discussion post I talked about how that around Halloween time, a popular costume is the sexy little Indian girl , when someone who is not of this culture wears this costume, it is culturally appropriation. Cultural appropriation usually happens without permissions and there is usually little to no respect or knowledge of the culture. Cultural appreciation is learning about another culture with respect. I believe that in order for more cultural appreciation to take place there need to be less cultural appropriation. However, with that being said, I think that people need to become more educated on culture, and how to respect cultures. I have learned so much in this class that I would have never knew if I had not taken this class. The halloween costumes, as one example, need to go and individuals and companies need to stop marketing sexy little Indian as a costume. • 53. Methotrexate And Its Effect On Sarcoidosis Essay Methotrexate and its effect on sarcoidosis Amanda Roll University of Cincinnati Cronstein, B, Eberle, M, Gruber, H, Levin, R (1991). Methotrexate inhibits neutrophil function by stimulating adenosine release from connective tissue cells. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 88, 2441 2445. Abstract Sarcoidosis is a potentially chronic inflammatory disease/disorder that causes abnormal tissue clusters in various parts of the body. Depending on where they form, they can interrupt or prevent function of that specific part of the body. They can form in multiple areas. Its effects also depend on the person, as some people are asymptomatic. Others use medications, like corticosteroids, to treat their symptoms. However, methotrexate is not a corticosteroid, but can be used to treat the symptoms of sarcoidosis; because of this, it is referred to as a steroid sparing agent. Both types of medications can be used together in therapy. Methotrexate acts to increase the release of adenosine in the body to inhibit the cell s ability to induce tissue damage, preventing the autoimmune characteristic of this disease. Knowing this, we re one step closer to determining what causes the development of sarcoidosis, and can further investigate ways to treat it. Discovering another form of treatment could possibly help prevent innocent patients from experiencing some dangers and side effects methotrexate causes, like hepatotoxicity. • 54. Metaphors In Romeo And Juliet Shakespeare uses numerous literary devices in his works to educate and draw his audiences. In Romeo and Juliet, there are many different examples of these devices, some of which are metaphors and oxymorons. Shakespeare uses these different literary devices in many ways to teach readers that courtly loveis real. Shakespeare uses metaphors to show people that the best kind of love is love that never dies. This scene is after Romeo kills Tybalt, and Juliet wants Romeo to come to her again. Juliet says For thou wilt lie upon the wings of night/ Whiter than new snow upon a raven s back./ Come, gentle night; come, loving, black browed night; (3.2.18 20). This passage is a metaphor, because Juliet is saying that Romeo will come to her at night, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of these examples, come from scenes where someone, normally Romeo, talks about love. The first example of this, is when Juliet says Beautiful tyrant! Fiend angelical!/ Dove feathered raven! Wolvish ravening lamb! (3.2.75 76). This passage is an oxymoron, because none of these things can happen in real life. This passage is important because even though Juliet is referring to Romeo in all of these oxymorons, and calling him beautiful, but tyrannical. Juliet knows that she loves Romeo, even though he did kill her cousin. Juliet seems to be unable to accept the fact that Romeo is a murderer, and that he will be killed because of the Prince s decree. The second example of an oxymoron, is at the end of the balcony scene, when Romeo is leaving, Juliet says Parting is such sweet sorrow. (2.2.184). This is an oxymoron because sorrow is not sweet. This passage is important, because this shows us that Juliet does not want Romeo to leave. This shows us that even though they have just met, Romeo and Juliet love each other. From this, the audience can learn that courtly love and love at first sight is real. Shakespeare uses these oxymorons to teach people that love is real and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. The Core Values Of Zappos The holacratic model has, already, been adopted by for profit and non profit organizations in several countries. For the purpose of an incubation chamber, Zappos.com has been the first organizational reality to deploy it. Zappos is an online shoe and clothing shop founded in 1999 and owned by Amazon since 2009. During the negotiations with Amazon, internal management s primary concern was to maintain the company culture intact throughout the acquisition process, because a culture that embraces the idiosyncrasies of each individual is what keeps the firm alive and healthy. Such an emphasis on employees manifested itself in drawing up the ten core values of the Zappos family: deliver wow through service; embrace and drive change; create fun and a little weirdness; be adventurous, creative, and open minded; pursue growth and learning; build open and honest relationships with communication; build a positive team and family spirit; do more with less; be passionate and determined; be humble. The company has, even, its own consulting unit to help others emulate the Zappos way and folklore. In 2015, Zappos formerly adopted Holacracy. • 56. How Does Surface Mining Affect The Environment Lately, there has been a vast controversy over whether or not surface mining is helpful to the environment. Surface mining takes less labor while also yielding more coal. However, the destructiveness of it outweighs any possible benefits. The infrastructure and different types of pollution associated with the mining phase disturbs the ecosystems by causing problems with wildlife, water, and even people s homes. In order for there to be a difference in how the surface miningof coalaffects the environment, there needs to be some sort of action taken which is to have stricter controls over mining companies such as the Vulcan Materials Company. To begin with, Vulcan s use of surface mining endangers the environment as a whole as it leaves behind sundry negative effects. Per ton of coal, around twenty five tons of overburden is excavated ( Surface Mining ). To remove overburden, one must blast through the hard cap rock which, in turn, leaves the landscape withering. Normal organic matter is prevented from getting into the soil causing a loss in vegetation and a displacement of wildlife. The lack of vegetation also increases the rate of erosion. Mining generally encompasses spoil banks, which are long rows of coalesced soil and rock, and ultimately blocks any outflow. These banks are usually left abandoned; yet, the efforts being made to reclaim them may only result in an erosion of the soil worsening. Along with these deleterious outcomes, there also comes the pollutionof ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
